Hey guys, it's your Lady Gang, Jack Vanek, Kelty Knight, and Becca Tobin.
Thank you so much for subscribing on iTunes, and thanks for supporting the great sponsors
who make it possible for us to have this much fun with you every single week for free.
Well, what is this?
Welcome to the Lady Gang.
That's amazing.
Say that again.
The Lady Gang.
Things are about to change around here.
Each week, we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and
Jack Vanek.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang.
I am Becca Tobin here with Kelty Knight and Jack Vanek.
What's up?
Hey, bitches.
How's it going?
Honestly, I'm good.
You're really chill right now.
I know.
What's happening?
I just have a whole new outlook on life.
Oh, my God.
What is that outlook?
That I can be like A-type.
Whatever you want to be.
I can be anything I want to be.
But I think that there's a way to exist.
Okay.
To be honest.
Do you want me to tell you about it?
Yeah.
Is this a good week or a bad week?
No, it's just my life.
Okay.
I have spent my entire life worrying so much about other people.
Like, I would go for a dress fitting for me, and I would think of my co-host and be like, oh, I should take pictures of dresses for them, too, because they need dresses, and I want to be that person.
Or I would start writing email, and then I'd be like, oh, I should just send this thing to this person because it would help them.
And, like, I'm always going a million miles an hour, and I've realized to just be really selfish.
And I'm only – I know this is, like, maybe horrible.
I'm only concerning myself with things that I have to do with my life directly.
Yeah.
As you should, because that's what most people do.
I know.
No, it's not what most people do.
What do you think most people are concerned about other people?
Yeah, I think most of us go through our lives, like, basically being, like, always in tune with what everyone else is doing.
What's that person doing?
Right.
Should I do that, too?
Right.
That person's there and I'm not there.
But I'm really – it's not even, like, not helping, but I'm just really, like, you want – like, I'm going to take – I'm putting on my own oxygen mask first.
and because i'm doing that helping with helping people like connecting people and helping people
that's what i meant yeah i was thinking of it like the thing you always say about blinders
yeah oh but that too i'm just really in a place where i'm just like working hard taking time for
myself and even though it's really busy and crazy like i'm just trying to be good and i'm trying to
be a better person i'm trying to make sure that people know how much i appreciate them by not
doing things for them i'm just joking i'm kidding i get it like today you can't take care of other
people unless you're taking care of yourself right sometimes i'm really stressed at the podcast and
we're maybe running behind or something and i want to shove someone out the door and be like we gotta
go we got and i instead i'm just like it's cool we're 10 minutes late it's fine the world keeps
spinning you know the world is spinning and also you know it's it's hard to do both because you
are in a tough situation i think anybody in your situation any if you're in charge or responsible
for something other people things going right the right way um that balance of being chill enough to
let the small things go and not eat you alive but also being on top of stuff enough like you're still
able to maintain and manage everything you have to to do like i could never do that i know for a
fact that i would be a terrible terrible leader like that's just not me but i love you leading's
not fun leading is not my jam and on that's why i married zach he's the bossiest human on the planet
Okay, and now it's time for Good Week.
Yes, it is.
Bad Week.
Oh, no.
I'm going first because this actually kind of segues into what I was going to say.
Great.
So I had a little time to kill the other day, and I was actually leaving CBS and feeling like we're in a place right now with the Lady Gang where I couldn't be more proud.
I couldn't be more excited to come do this every time we do it.
I don't care what our future is.
I just know it's going to be great because our intentions are all the same.
And I was on this hike and I realized as I was walking, I had heard some news about another actress who's kind of up for something.
And I started getting that really competitive, crazy feeling that you get because you're like, oh, my God, she's going to take it.
And I'm not going to have it. And I need this. And she doesn't she doesn't deserve it. I deserve it.
And then I was suddenly sitting there being like, so this is this is my bad week.
I realized that all these years of comparing myself and competing with all these other
actresses it's completely depleted my ability to have joy like the basically the greediness that
I have for wanting all of it has totally clouded my vision and taken away any gratitude that I
could ever feel so then I was on this hike and I was like so basically I've robbed myself of all
of these great moments because i'm so worried because i want more more more more more i'm not
rich enough i'm not like successful enough i'm not this i whatever so i realize that greed is
totally i need to be more grateful and not more in less greedy yeah but that's like the monster
be grateful not greedy i like that but a lot of people are probably really jealous of us and look
at us and they're like oh i wish we had i think you could look at anybody yeah hindsight 2020
it's the same thing we always talk about with not comparing your hustle right or somebody's
highlight reel to your hustle because it always looks great from the outside like people haven't
seen the ways that like we've worked our asses off so much and like it's true yeah i was listening
to oprah's super soul podcast which is great this is part of my good week um she has such an
incredible podcast i mean i know we don't like to pimp out other podcasts but like let's be serious
oprah's got like a world above us um she lives on another planet oh my god i would die but um
There was a guy that came on.
I can't remember his name.
He's like a reverend.
And it's basically turning a setback into a comeback.
Oh, I love that.
And it was just very cool and inspiring.
And on this same hike, I just was realizing that he does a lot of these things with professional athletes and actors.
Really highly, whatever that's called, successful.
Yeah, super successful people.
And he sometimes will show them a baby picture of themselves.
And it'll literally bring like grown men to their knees crying because you look at the
person and you're like, could I have told that like little girl, this is going to be
your life.
And she wouldn't say, but you don't have this, this, and this yet.
She'd be like, look at everything that we have and look what we've accomplished.
And so it's like a really kind of a cool message.
I like that.
Yeah.
God, you're so spiritual this week.
I am so spiritual.
It's Oprah's super soul.
Oh, there was another.
I mean, it's just, it's so good.
I could talk about it all day, but that would be another podcast and that's called Oprah's
Super soul podcast.
Who's next?
Did you not have a bad week?
Oh, the bad week turned into a good week.
My bad week was that I was like, God, I've been so greedy.
Like, what the...
Chill out.
Yeah.
I'll go next.
Mine are super short.
So are mine.
I can't pick bar stools from my kitchen island.
And I have paid over $250 in shipping to get one set of bar stools sent.
I waited four months for them from Crate and Barrel.
They came.
I took one out of the box.
And I was like, this is not the bar stool for me.
And I returned them.
and then I saw a set on Fixer Upper from Chip and Joanna's last season
where they did the loft, and they had these beautiful ones from Industry West,
and I was like, I'm going to order those.
So I ordered them, and they came, and I was like, these are not my barstools.
So I sent them back.
Then Elena made me order gold ones from Restoration Hardware,
and then as soon as she went on her trip, I was like, nope,
these are not the ones for me, and I canceled the order.
So I'm on my fourth barstool.
Please help me God, tell me what barstool to get.
Are these all similar, or are they all completely different?
No, they're totally different.
What about your Havenly girl?
What does she say?
I don't master yet.
Ask her.
You need some help.
You're not doing a good job picking them out.
What's her name, Chloe?
Kylie.
Kylie.
Okay, my good week.
I've decided to take the adventure of a lifetime.
I'm going with my friend and lawyer, Carolyn, to go gorilla trekking in Uganda.
Shut up.
Shut up.
Are you kidding?
Yes.
We're flying together.
It's going to be a girl's trip.
We're going to do two days of gorilla trekking.
It's super expensive, and there were barely any passes left.
You have to get a certain pass to get in the country.
And so you basically wake up at six in the morning and you go up to the mountains and
you find this family of gorillas that lives way up and it takes you like 12 hours of hiking
and you get to just watch them for four hours and then come back down and then you do the
next thing, the same thing the next day.
Wow.
Dreamy, right?
I don't want to freak you out, but my friend did this with her family and-
They never saw the gorillas.
No, no, no.
They saw them.
Oh, so you say gorillas.
One of the gorillas-
Through Puppet.
No.
Got very, very, very close to her dad.
Yeah.
Oh God.
He was face to face like a face off and they tell you what to do.
in that situation
and I can't remember.
I can't.
I wish I could remember
what the direction was
that you're supposed to do
but she has a picture of it.
She caught a picture of it
and this gorilla is staring
her dad dead in the eye
like three inches.
Oh, he was totally ready
to rip his head off.
Terrifying.
Terrifying.
So be careful.
Yeah, I will.
But that's incredible.
No, that is going to be so cool.
Holy shit.
Okay, my good week.
Mine are super fast.
My good week,
I have a new word.
Screwveneer.
and it's when you take a souvenir
from somebody that you banged.
Ooh, like what?
Like syphilis?
That's probably the most popular
souvenir that people take.
I don't think it's syphilis,
although I've seen billboards
all over LA scaring it.
It's HPV, let's be serious.
They do scare us into thinking
that everybody's going to get syphilis.
I know.
I guess a lot of people are getting it.
Are they?
I don't know.
No, but if you take a trinket
or you leave your pair of underwear.
What kind of trinket?
I don't know.
What have you taken?
Well, the only thing I can think of is I hooked up with a guy last year and he left his necklace.
So I got a screw veneer.
Oh.
Yeah.
I had a friend who was dating slash sleeping with this like big NBA player.
And he had a diamond, like a diamond necklace, crazy necklace.
And he left it at her house, I think.
And then she lost his number?
No.
And then they had like kind of a weird, messy breakup between the time that she had the
necklace and they like broke it off and for a while he just forgot and she was so angry that
she's like i'm gonna hold on to this and make him have to man up and yeah it's not your fault that
he forgot about it yeah is that good how have we been doing on saying like because i just felt like
i just said 15 no i don't know whatever okay um bad week so i went to a mexican restaurant with
some of my friends for like a taco tuesday we all ordered you went out with a group of friends to
like have a drink and food i know it's hard to believe this home body this home body and we all
order food like we got nachos and taquitos like whatever my friend orders a burrito i've known
this friend for 10 years and he like opens up the burrito goes to take a bite and takes a bite from
the middle of the burrito no no like a sandwich yes like from the middle that is the best bite
it is but i'm like number one first thing it makes me think of is that meme with michael
buble eating the corn on the cob where he's like eating it from the top i'm like how do people live
their lives as an adult and don't know how to eat foods correctly i don't know i've never seen any
and then so he ate like through it and then he ate both sides of it was the weirdest thing i've
ever seen in my entire life and i'm shocked wow yeah i don't i disagree with you that is not the
best bite of the burrito i like the burrito at the end oh the end is good the end is the best
i haven't had a burrito in such a long time i think we need to get burritos no but that's a bad
bite because you might just be getting only guacamole that's what i love it's bad because
it's sad because it's over does anyone else no i know but the end bite is sad because it's over i
does anybody else i have a problem and i'm a really fast eater and i didn't know why for so
long i mean i was really rushed as a kid i had a lot of activities and it was like between whatever
and i was shoving food and i just continued that having that happen and then i realized the other
day it's because i'm so afraid for my stomach my brain to catch up to my stomach because i want to
continue to eat you like need to eat the whole thing before your brain i don't want to be full
and if you stop mid-meal you're gonna not be hungry anymore well that's why they always tell
you if you have a sandwich or if you're trying to diet or whatever you eat half the sandwich and
Wait, like, 30 minutes.
Can I tell you how many times I've had half a sandwich?
Zero.
None.
Zero.
I have never not finished a sandwich.
People who do that, I, my hat is off to you.
You should be the president, because I cannot do that.
How can you look at half of a sandwich and, like, leave it alone?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Deep thoughts with the lady.
On that deep note, when we come back, we're going to go deep in your vagina holes, because
We've got our O-B-Y-G-Y-N doctor here.
O-B-G-Y-N.
Whatever.
You know what I'm saying.
Okay, bye.
Okay, what's going on?
Now, here's the Lady Gang.
Our guest today is a board-certified and active fellow of the American College of Obstetrics.
I definitely said that wrong.
And gynecology.
With an undergrad in psych from SMU.
A medical degree from Baylor, which is also where Chip and Joanna Gaines went to college, which makes it even cooler.
And a residency at George Washington University.
after spending more years in school than Jack Vanek has spent in a healthy relationship.
Burn, savage.
I don't know.
Why did you have to do that?
No, I mean.
We'll get back to that.
It was Jordan's idea.
And she said, I think I should write that.
And I said, you should do it.
Okay.
Continuing on.
She's been featured on Fox News, CWABC, Fox News Radio, The Chip Franklin Show,
iHeartRadio, The Jeff Crilley Show, Huffington Post,
and an expert on women's health for publications including Glamour, Redbook,
women's health yahoo today parents magazine self magazine um she has been there for her readers to
provide answers to previously unaskable questions which is why we invited her on the show like what
are the health implications of glitter bombing my vagina just saying these are this is where we're
going today what's the theory behind rejuvela which is injecting your own blood into your
vagina to rejuvenate it and if tia maury is streaming her vagina should i you know what i
mean probably no our lady gay members have questions of their own so we want to welcome
to the podcast dr perry god say hi that was very long honestly you have so many credits it's like
a lot it's sweet i'm like i feel like i'm like wow kind of blushing a little awkward but no
it's okay okay thank you though thank you first of all you look at a lot of vaginas yes okay do
Do people clean their vagina before they come to you, or do some come nasty?
Well, of course, some people.
I'm just starting.
I'm, like, diving.
Yeah, dive right in.
You know, clean as well as others.
But I think most people, when they know that they're going to have an appointment, they do take the time to get it properly and get it together.
And they always, you know, it's funny, though, because people are always like, oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry.
I meant to wax.
I meant to do this or that.
And honestly, I'm like, we don't really care as much as you think that we care.
I mean, obviously, good hygiene is appreciated, but it's not like we're going to be grading the situation or anything.
Have you ever had to dive into, like, just a nasty bad?
For sure.
Of course.
Yeah.
I always say that my people are always like, what's your grossest story?
What's your grossest story?
Right.
The hardest one was I was a resident, and there was a patient that was actually on the psych ward.
unfortunately she had a psychiatric illness and part of that was that she was storing things in
her vagina so like her hospital bracelet paper clips things like that so obviously this was
this became an infected bad type of situation so that was pretty disturbing um but yeah that's
probably about as bad as i get paper clips it's kind of that's gonna poke you that's gonna poke
you oh my god okay so our lady gang um asked so many questions some of them i agree with i also
have questions but um of my own but we'll save those for the end okay so people said is lube a
serious health benefactor does it help with vagina stuff um or is it more of an ad so it's not that
it's going to help the health of your vagina at all just like a normal water-based lubricant but
obviously can aid in sexual intercourse if that's what they mean by helping right but what about
like there's some lubes that have like extra stuff in it to make your vagina like fluffy or
the coconut oil lube no i don't think so there's no benefit i don't think so the only thing that
would actually help like the tissue of the vagina would be something that had an estrogen in it
but then that's really only going to be recommended for people that are post-menopausal if you're
young and you're healthy you really don't need any sort of additive for your vagina the best
thing to do is just bathe like a normal person keep the ph balance of your vagina normal in that
way and obviously if you feel like you need lubrication for intercourse use it but well
everyone needs lube we love lube it's great so you can use it for that but don't feel like you
need to be doing it like a vitamin or something how this is an interesting question how do you
know whether or not you're fertile is there anything i can do to make myself more fertile
when i start having kids so the best thing from beccatobin i just took the blood test yeah i was
gonna say yeah so you can actually go to your doctor and they can run like a gamut of blood
tests. They can also do like a very basic ultrasound to see kind of how things look in
your anatomy. In terms of keeping, you know, making yourself the most fertile, don't smoke
cigarettes, don't drink excessive alcohol, don't, you know, marijuana use not excessively, drug use.
And then really what's really important is... So have no fun. Right. You have to have sex.
Moderate. No, it's everything in moderation, right? These are all things that you don't
want to do excessively. And then really what's very important is also being a healthy BMI or
body mass index. We see people that are too thin or too heavy. They have trouble getting pregnant.
Do you have any questions about your blood test? No. What's the name? I don't remember the name
of the blood test that I took, but I guess it's good if you're over a 1.5. So probably your AMH.
Okay. Maybe. It was initials. Yeah. What did you get? It's anti-Mullerian hormone. It's just one
of the markers for fertility. But there's other things that we can look at too in terms of like
you're there's a few other initials like fsh tsh you know lh so they're all basically looking at
hormones i did that one i was out of five and i got a 1.2 and she was like it's time to freeze
your eggs and i was like oh god you got a 1.2 yeah out of five i don't know what i don't know
what test that was either yeah it's hard to say okay it seems like everyone i know including
myself was previously that was on previously oh my god let me start again it seems like everyone
I know, including myself, that was previously on birth control pills has a much harder time
conceiving compared to my friends who had no form of birth control. Can birth control affect
fertility negatively? This is one of my favorite questions. The answer is no. So birth control has
a very short half-life, meaning it's in your system for just that day, each pill. That's why
if people miss one or two pills, they can get pregnant, right? So therefore, there's no lasting
effect of birth control pills the reason why it seems that way sometimes is because people that
are on the pill their cycles regulated by the pill and so if they have some underlying problem
they don't even know about it and so then they're getting off the pill and they're trying to get
pregnant and they're just discovering there's something else going on that they just didn't
previously know but it's not the pill's fault it was just probably already there i have a question
about that so with like becca had the idea of the skyla and she didn't have a period for x amount
years like is that bad for you in a way or can that affect your fertility not having a period
for so long i was going to say one caveat to just in general if we're talking about birth control
in general and lasting fertility effects the only one that's been shown is depo provera which is a
shot which is like a high level of progesterone that's the only one that if you do that then you
can actually have trouble getting pregnant for like a year or a year and a half after you get
off of it but the pill no because it's such a short half-life in terms of like progesterone
containing iuds like skyla morena um those were a lot to say brand names yeah yeah those um don't
necessarily have any lasting effects with that said because it's thinned you're lining out and
that's why you're not bleeding it might take like a cycle or two for your body to get regular i
thought you were gonna have a guy remember that one episode we're like you're gonna have a geyser
because you're not on it anymore and then all of those like six years and not three years of not
having a period is going to come out, but there's no lining.
It doesn't just bulk up.
No, it's basically thinned it out.
So there's really just nothing to shed while you're there.
But you do need a good lining to get pregnant,
but usually it'll just take a couple of cycles to get back to normal.
It's not going to have a long term.
Years and years and years, yeah.
I have a question for you.
You can plead the fifth.
What type of birth control do you use?
So I'm currently not on any birth control,
but what I've used in the past, I've used birth control pills.
I've tried the NuvaRing myself, but I just, like, psychologically was like,
ooh, something's in there, something's in there.
And it's big.
But, you know, I have a lot of patients that love it.
They're super comfortable with it.
I've tried an IUD before, and I did have, like, a little bit of pain.
With that said, I have tons of patients that don't, you know.
So it's all about finding the right choice for you.
I mean, there are people that hate the pill.
There are people that hate the NuvaRing.
There are people that hate the implant in your arm.
And then there are people that love it.
So it's just, it's a personal choice.
Okay.
This one is very juicy.
Why do I have juices?
This is not for me, by the way.
Why do I have juices flowing out of my vagina almost 24-7?
I don't know what it's like to have dry underwear.
So, you know, discharge can vary depending on the person.
So this could be something that's normal for this person.
You would have to kind of take a history and be like, okay, well, when did this start?
Did something, does it seem like something's irritating your vagina?
of you always want to make sure it's not an infection if someone has like a you know a lot
of discharge you want to make sure it's not a yeast infection or an std or bacterial vaginosis
but if all those things are ruled out this person might just be more lubricated than other people
and it just kind of is what it is that was me in my 20s really i swear to god i used to wear
panty liners almost every day because i just had this like kind of murky vag not murky but i had
like I felt more yeah like juices but now I'd pay to have those juices back okay so enjoy it
makes sex real easy at any time easy you could put anything in there yeah and I didn't even have
to be turned on no okay I don't know what this is but I'm hoping you do what are your thoughts on
v-back v-b-a-c yeah so that's a vaginal birth after cesarean section oh so this is people that
have a c-section and then they want to have a vaginal birth afterward and their question is
if it's possible yeah the actual new term that they're recommending is actually called a tolac
which is a trial of labor after cesarean because obviously not everybody's successful at any rate
i actually let patients be back but you have to be a good candidate and you have to know your risks
everything has risk to it and so there are risks to be back the main risk that we always worry about
is what's called uterine rupture where your uterus could open up on that scar line it's less than one
percent which that's although see like look at your face if that happened it's an emergency
situation you could die the baby could die oh god so you just have to know wait why would you die
bleed to death you could bleed because it would rupture but your skin's not going to rupture
because you're not cutting your skin so you're not going to know that it's ruptured yeah and
you're bleeding internally isn't one percent still kind of a lot it's a little bit less than one
percent but yeah yeah so it just again you just have to understand those risks and obviously you
know you want to do if you are someone who wants to have a v-back you want to be in a good hospital
that has like good emergency care with good anesthesia don't have a water birth oh my god
like literally i can't even like wrap my wrap my mind around people that want to be back like at
home or at a birthing center or something it's so so dangerous and there are people that try to do
these things but um yeah if you're if you want to do it you want to talk to your doctor you want to
make sure you're a good candidate because also the thing is it depends on like how many c-sections
you've had prior what and why you had the c-section this i think is really interesting
for instance if you had a c-section because your baby was upside down and now the second baby is
you know on the right position well then you probably will deliver vaginally successfully
but if you had a c-section because your pelvis like wasn't big enough and the baby couldn't come
out well probably you're not going to be able to do it the second time either so that's someone
who's like not a good candidate do you feel like people or women think that it's like a bad thing
when you have to have a c-section like you're not a real woman i think unfortunately there's been a
trend in our society and culture that is putting that pressure on women like you know i always tell
patients from the beginning you're not going to get an extra medal or badge of honor but it's
becoming that way like oh i had a vaginal natural birth and i didn't use anesthesia and this and that
the the thing that everybody wants is a healthy baby that's the main goal and that's where you
You know, you get your badge of honor.
How the baby comes out, I think, is not as important.
Do you think babies are kind of ugly when they come out?
No, I love them.
Sometimes I think that babies are so ugly.
No, they're not.
Okay.
Do you think babies are ugly?
I do not like a newborn.
No, a newborn is, like, very real.
They're like little aliens.
Yeah.
Okay.
Do doctors and nurses talk about other people's weird vaginas to each other?
Like, hey, Sheila, I really had one hell of a badge today.
I think that's kind of against.
You can get fired for that.
I mean, but even anonymously, you couldn't necessarily get fired for it if you're discussing
patient care and something were to come up.
But you're just talking shit.
Yeah, it's unprofessional.
And it's also something that, you know, at the end of the day, people, I feel like are
health care providers because they care about people.
And so they're going to be looking at people with empathy.
They're not going to be like, oh, gosh, that was weird.
And granted, there's always some sometimes stories that we share amongst ourselves just
to get opinions or things like that.
But it's not like people are going to be, yeah, shit-talking you.
Right.
It's not the point.
Okay.
This one's great.
I need to know how to make my vagina never, ever smell ever under any circumstance.
Thank you.
Well, thank you.
I don't know about that.
I mean, I think that no matter what you're doing for your vagina, you're always going to have, you know,
anyone who's normal and healthy is still going to possibly come across an infection at some time.
Or if you exercise a lot, you can't help but smell a little sweaty sometimes.
I don't think there's a way to prevent against that ever.
But good question.
Do you think that those body washes that are like the pH balancing, do you think there's something to that?
Yeah, I think those are good.
My whole thing is just don't put anything inside.
Like you never want to douche.
That's going to throw the pH balance off.
But the nice pH, like the body washes or the ones, the wipes, those can be helpful for like resetting the pH balance.
Good to know.
I had BV for a while.
I was a real bitch.
I did too.
What's BV?
Bacterial vaginosis.
Yeah, bacterial vaginosis.
So it's actually more common than a yeast infection.
It's just not as talked about as much.
But it's very common.
And it's just when the pH balance gets thrown off, the bad bacteria in our vagina overgrows the good bacteria.
And we both have both at all times.
All have both at all times.
I said that totally weird.
But basically when the pH balance gets off, the bad bacteria can overgrow the good.
And then that leads to an infection.
you get this kind of it's famous for having this like fishy smell so if you ever smell that
i'll never forget it doesn't seem normal to you then go to your doctor because you probably have
an infection it smells weird and also like the smell a lot of times for people it kind of will
lay dormant and then they have intercourse yep and then it smells bad and so during the intercourse
right after during or right after what's happening it's super it's very embarrassing for people it's
the worst with the yeast infection do you get a smell no not typically because remember when i
had that crazy i i couldn't i went to the doctor and they did both tests and they couldn't figure
out which one it was so then they gave me the the medication for bv and then i just ended up putting
coconut oil like up my vagina and it went away but i then it must have been a yeast infection
because it didn't smell i guess i'm sorry i got thrown off with coconut oil i know don't do that
don't do that well so okay i've been telling everybody about it all right so we don't we
don't want to like act like we know everything about vaginas but we did do some polling in our
facebook group of like what a lot of really a lot of like investigating um do you want to explain
what about like well when it happened to me tampon so yeah oh yeah i put apple cider vinegar on my
vagina coconut oil i did oh it burned but it felt better than the itching like it was yeah so for
yeast infection yeah i dipped a tampon in rubbed some around i wasn't itchy with bv oh you weren't
i'm itchy with yeast the most the difference between the two and this is just typical
um again there's always some people that are going to be you know having a different symptom
but the common symptoms are for like a yeast infection it's going to be like the white
cottagey type discharge and then itching and then some people don't get the discharge they just get
like redness and irritation mine was just the worst itching i've ever had in my entire life
almost like raw yeah almost burnt it's like burnt and then for bv it's not so much of the irritation
as that you can get kind of a funny discharge like a grayish kind of discharge but not everybody but
mainly it's the the odor yeah and there's a lot of times that you have both at the same time which
then that's really fun that's fun yeah so we're saying is we found for a yeast infection a good
homestrung theory is dipping a tampon in coconut oil and putting it up your vag and it really gives
see and i don't know if i just it just happened yeah i did it at the timing that it just started
going away but it was like i said it worked yeah what are your thoughts no don't put things up
your vagina don't put food up your vagina overall i say don't put things like don't put things up
your vagina i was literally shoving it so far up i'm like how further can i get down so that we
can obviously there's like some things that you can put in your vagina but don't put don't put
the foods or oils or weird objects, you know, because the thing is, is that the problem
with that is, is you can actually make the situation worse depending on what you're trying
to put in there.
And especially like vinegar and things like that.
Like I've tea tree oil is also another thing that people try to put into it and that can
actually be really like caustic.
It can burn because your vagina, the insides, like the inside of your mouth, it's a mucus
membrane.
It's sensitive.
So if you start putting, like, vinegar and, like, Bernie oil, it can kind of irritate your vagina even more.
Yeah, don't do that.
I'm going to ask you a personal question about my vagina now, and then we'll go back to the girls' questions.
Okay, so is it possible that my vagina is getting floppier as I get older?
Yeah.
So typically—
Like, is that a thing?
It's falling with gravity like the rest of you.
I know, but I don't have boobs, so I don't know about it.
When you say floppier, do you mean your labia?
Like, I'll draw you.
Or do you mean your—
I feel like when I was 20—
Okay.
My vagina was like this.
Okay.
Explain this to the listeners.
Okay, so it looks like a B.
It looks like a W with like a little flock of seagulls.
It looks like a normal.
Yeah.
Okay, but now I feel like my vagina is looking more, the lips are droopier.
Like a little droopier.
Droopier and floppier.
This is it.
Yeah, outside lips.
So the outside lip's like your labia majora.
This actually looks exactly like my vagina.
Okay, well that's cool.
I love her.
That's cool.
so yes you can the outside of your vagina the way it looks can change with time just the same
way as all of our bodies change with time right disappointing it can be a difference of weight
um also just as you get older you have different elasticity of your skin yes and so that would be
that's what my guess is it's just a little elasticity has changed i mean it's not ugly
it's still like so beautiful but I'm just saying
it's like I don't know I didn't know
I don't have boobs so people are all like
oh I'm in my mid 30s my boobs are starting to sag
or I had kids my boobs are sagging
I'm like my boobs are still exactly the same as they've been
since I was 14 years old like tiny and like
okay not about me
how often do women
actually poop on the table while they give birth
sorry back up um I can't give
a percentage but
a lot of the time like most
I bet but I watched
not i watched my best friend give birth she did not poop but the nurse i asked her this question
being a curious person and the way that they put the because a lot of things are coming out right
well there's a pee pad and there's also like a garbage drape like a drape yeah call it a drape
and um because they're not they're not it's not a maltease and like a bag that catch it a catchall
yeah yeah yeah because there's a lot coming out and so the nurse was like like fluids and shit
What else?
Placenta?
Placenta?
Blood, amniotic fluid.
It's a lot.
What do you think the baby's living in there?
Like how much?
Like a pumpkin-sized amount?
Of what?
Of poop or fluids?
All.
Like a liter?
No, not a liter.
Well, it depends on what we're quantifying.
In terms of blood, just during the beginning and after, it's going to be a lot of times
like up to 300, 400 cc's is considered normal for a vaginal birth.
so you're gonna you know it's almost like half a liter and then you have fluid and some other
things so it's a lot of stuff does anything like i didn't mean to interrupt you it can yeah it
definitely can that's why we wear a mask and a eye guard god it's a it's gnarly hit me on the
eye it's a lot did you see poop no so she was explaining she's like if poop comes out it's just
it's literally like you don't even see it it's not like somebody like taking a big
on an empty table
I would see it
you would see it
because I'm up in there
the husband
like it can actually
they just would like
it's coming out
with all the rest of the stuff
so it's not like
you're like
picking up a dog poop
or the nurse comes in
with like the hanky on
no
because I was thinking
that that would be mortifying
yeah
but then I'm sitting there
thinking that
anything could come out
a hamster could walk out
and it's not out
it's not weird
like everything's happening
oh my god
I bet it's like a disaster
it's a
it's a lot
it's a crime scene
it looks like a crime scene
yeah it's a lot
yes exactly most people
a lot of people are going to poop
the amount of poop the type of poop and all that
really doesn't matter
I feel like it's the last thing anybody's concerned about
it's true like nobody seemed to care
my sister or my best friend
and wait if you have an epidural
how like
where can you start feeling
the best type of epidural or like where they're shooting
for is going to be like around your belly
button and down you really shouldn't
feel any pain. You should have some movement, but you're going to be pretty, pretty numb. So yeah,
exactly. Like for the most part, you don't really know. Yeah. You're just pushing. I don't know.
I mean, anyway, yeah. Yeah. Differentiate where you're pushing out of. Okay. I don't mean to
clean this up, but this is actually a great question. Um, one of the girls said, how often
should we be seeing an OBGYN and what should we be asked and having done and checked out while
we're there okay so everybody should be getting an annual exam right and your annual exam should
include a full body exam including a breast exam and a pelvic exam which a pelvic exam is going to
be the one where it's manual where you're going in and the the doctor's feeling like your ovaries
and your uterus they're taking an outside look at your vagina if you don't have any complaints
that's kind of the standard thing and then usually you're going to get a pap smear now with that said
pap smear recommendations have changed and so we used to say pap smear every year well now we're
not really saying that we're saying every three years depending on your age five years it just
depends there's i mean and i don't want to sit here and go through all the recommendations
but basically most people aren't going to need a pap smear every single year okay unless they've
also had something abnormal right so that's kind of dependent upon your doctor and your history
but you should still see someone every single year and you should also get std testing at that time
if you're sexually active if you have any sort of problems like with your period or say you had a
fishy smell or a yeast infection or all the things that we've talked about then that's another reason
to go to your doctor also anytime you have a new sexual partner you should go get std testing
that was my next question because of hpv um so me personally i did my annual normal normal i've
Never had an abnormal pap smear.
Never, ever, ever.
And I went very, like, every year I never skipped.
I went back last year, and I had an abnormal pap smear.
They did a colposcopy.
It ended up being pretty high grade.
And then I did a leap.
So I hadn't had any new sexual partners.
I mean, my husband and I had been together for a couple years.
So how do you avoid, so if I hadn't gone for my annual,
because I've been so healthy otherwise that couldn't have that have developed into something
much scarier I mean I'm still not out of the woods yes so yes and so prior to that when was
the pap smear before that the year before exactly so this is a that's a really great question because
people are like well what if that were to happen and I had waited you know the three year mark
like the new recommendation and you're right that is a little bit scary when they make these
recommendations they're looking at kind of overall the whole public risk benefit yeah if you are
somebody who wants to have a pap smear every year because this is a fear for you then you just need
to tell your doctor yeah basically yeah better safe than sorry yeah no kidding right we're going
to take a quick break to go uh wipe our vaginas and then when we come back we have more questions
now back to the lady gang we're back okay uh hello we're back
One of the girls said, I went to my gyno and got birth control for cramps, but I feel like it's affecting my love life, if you know what I mean.
I don't want to go back to taking nothing.
Help, I need some sort of birth control and something for cramps, something better than Midal.
What are my options?
So, I do know what you mean.
I'm guessing she went on the pill.
Yeah, because she had bad cramps.
So unfortunately, the pill is kind of known for one of the side effects is that it can
affect your libido and it can affect your lubrication.
First off the bat, I would say if this is something, you know, it is, but it is also
great for painful periods or what we call dysmenorrhea, I would try to maybe switch
your pill first because there are some pills that affect people differently.
And you could, if you bring it up to your doctor, there are actually certain types of
pills that have different types of progesterone in them that we know that may not affect your
libido as bad as some of the other ones. So I would talk to your doctor and see if maybe that
would be something. Other than that, anything that you use that's combined like an estrogen
progesterone, like the pill or the NuvaRing can affect your libido. The progesterone only things
like the IUDs that we talked about or the implant that goes in your arm, which is called
Nexplanon. Those are supposed to affect libido less. Oh, interesting. So because they don't
have estrogen in them. With that said, I've had patients that, of course, say that it still
affects them. So I guess to make a long story short, the answer is just start trying some
different options. We had a hormone expert on who we've loved, Candice. She's come on twice,
and she actually started quite a big conversation in our Facebook group because she was sort of
anti-birth control pill and she was like you know a lot of times when you're 12 or 13 or 14 years
old you have these bad periods you get put on the birth control pill when you're so young and then
you're on it your whole life and it messes with your hormones what are your thoughts on hormones
and pill and and all of that i mean i definitely think one again going back to what i was saying
before like when you're on it it can affect it i don't personally believe that it's going to have
majorly long-term side effects with that said i know there are studies that have shown that
it can affect the basically your receptors of your hormones permanently. And then that could
affect like, you know, your libido lubrication long term. I think that's rare. And I don't
think that's something that is going to be, you know, the general public. I am just someone of
thought of that everything has risks and benefits, and you have to look at them and make personal
choices. And also, I think that that's why it's a good, it's always good to make these choices
with your doctor like we always talk about that that it should be a group like a not a group but
come to the lady gang ask us what you ask we're not group but like a yeah both party you know
discussion um you shouldn't really you know if a doctor is telling you go on one thing you should
say like what are my other options and what are the risks what are the benefits it should be an
open conversation i love that okay what are your thoughts i already know what you're gonna say
and i quote don't put things up your vagina but what are your thoughts on goddess detox pearls
i've heard mixed reviews of whether they are safe what is that i don't know what it is
can you google it jordan oh yeah it's apparently like some sort of like douchey pill right gross
gross like oh i'm not a doctor i'm saying no it would it would depend i mean i'm goddess
vaginal detox pearls what's in them does it say 33 dollars
packaging looks sketchy um what is it a holistic all-natural um vaginal insert made with herbal
ingredients to aid in womb health and vaginal cleaning womb health i mean come on what does
it do i'm sorry that's just stupid the herbal ingredients are absorbed into your body vaginally
The herbs work to aid in overall womb health and cleansing.
Okay, so let me just, let me, yeah.
Can I say this clear?
Wait, what do you have to say about steaming your vagina?
Such a bad idea.
Do not steam your vagina.
That is something that can definitely burn the inside of your vagina.
The idea, well, we'll go, because the same thing I'm going to say about that, I'm going to say about the womb health.
the idea that something that goes into your vagina can then affect your womb which is your uterus
and or what steaming tries to say is like affect your fertility is nonsense like if you that's like
saying i'm going to put something in my ear and it's going to affect my brain like it doesn't
they're not connected there there's a small basically you have your vagina and then you
have your cervix and then you have your uterus which is on top of your cervix there's a very
very teeny teeny hole in your cervix that leads into your uterus that's how the iud goes that's
where the iud goes that's where sperm goes to go inside and get you pregnant that's how blood comes
out but if you put something in your vagina it would have to have like swimming capabilities
to get up in there into your uterus which i'm assuming the pearl the goddess pearl bombs is not
have a propeller on it
to get up in there.
They're not alive once they go in.
So the idea that it could affect your womb,
meaning your uterus, is nonsense.
And the fact that steam could affect your fertility
is not...
Is that what they say about this?
I just thought it was some bullshitty thing.
It is.
But they say it affects fertility with the same idea
that it's going to get into your uterus
and clean it out.
Like a closet.
It's ridiculous.
See, like little men going in there.
What's the most common, like, complain or issue women have when they come into your office that maybe the regular public doesn't understand that everyone's asking about?
Make us feel more normal.
Hmm.
I think the ones that we covered, like, with discharge stuff, that's, like, very common.
You know, like, do I have too little?
Do I have too much?
Do I smell normal?
People always want to ask if they look right.
That's a big one.
I used to, you know, when I was I'm from Texas and I was in private practice there for five years, I would treat all my friends like socially.
I like the number one question is like, do I have a good vagina?
Do I have a normal vagina?
Is there pretty vaginas?
Yeah.
I mean, not really.
I mean, they're all variations of normal.
Right.
So it's like saying, is there a prettier nose?
Like, what do you think is a pretty nose?
What does someone else think is a pretty nose?
It's a very big variation of what's normal.
And that's that's a big common question is like, is this normal?
Do I look OK?
Labia, like not the outer ones that you were talking about, but the inner ones, the labia
minora that, you know, they hang down.
Should I do a surgery for this?
Is this normal?
And what I always tell people is you, there's different variations of normal.
The only time to really consider having some sort of labial reduction or surgery is if
it's really becoming a pain in your life.
Like jeans are hard for you to wear.
Cycling is hard for you to do.
It's uncomfortable.
intercourse is uncomfortable then that's when you want to look into it but for cosmetic purposes
it's not necessary guys love vagina i have a question it's true i have a question i get
hemorrhoids a lot i didn't know that yes so tight and just kidding i'm the uptight one and my sister
i have not had a baby my sister has had two and she had raging raging hormones and so she wanted
me to ask my doctor if I should do the surgery because it's almost like they just live there
and then they get worse or better right she's like do you do the surgery to get rid of them
so that before you're pregnant it depends on how bad they are you would just want someone to
evaluate them and if they look bad enough to undergo the surgery then they could do them
prior to pregnancy with that said being pregnant is just going to put you at risk for more or again
And it's not like you can re-get them.
Yeah, you can re-get them in different parts.
So it's not like it's going to be, like, memory-free forever.
Yeah, no, it's not like that.
What do they do?
What's the surgery that they do?
They go in and cut them out?
They, like, tie them off, right?
They tie them off.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
Damn, like a ball.
I would love to do that.
Exactly.
Of your own?
How often do you get them?
I mean, not as, I mean, I don't know.
I have weird bowel movements.
That's really the thing I would suggest is if you want to try to prevent getting them
or in general or even prior to pregnancy
is just trying to get better bowel health.
Yeah.
Like taking a natural stool softener every day,
drinking lots of water, having fiber in your diet.
If you're severely constipated,
you can talk to your doctor about that too.
There are medications that can help you with constipation.
That's probably the best thing in terms of preventing hemorrhoids.
Godspeed.
Nightmare.
It seems my body, this is not for me.
My body seems to hate my husband's saliva.
I get a yeast infection any time he performs oral sex on me.
Not every time, but pretty close.
Anything I can do to prevent this?
I guess you could try to take a probiotic, you know, daily that helps with the pH balance of your vagina and helps protect against yeast infections.
That'd be something you could try.
Also, shower after.
Right?
Yeah, but it just depends.
I mean, it depends on if you're just right.
That moment could be throwing off the pH balance no matter how long it is.
I mean, you could also, this is, this is just a out there kind of recommendation.
He could also try like maybe different toothpaste, like things like that to see if it's something
that's on him or even his cologne.
It might not even be in his mouth.
It could be around his mouth, his aftershave, something like that.
Yeah.
Could try to adjust those things.
Um, okay.
We are in our third, well, Jack's not, well, yeah, you are in your thirties, but I'm in
my late thirties.
Okay.
And then I look amazing.
Um, just kidding.
anyway so uh we live in this world where like when you're 36 it's done like body's done not
having babies and then the fear of god is put into you of like you need to freeze your eggs
immediately you are dry it's over what is the real age that people because then you hear of
women that are 45 they get pregnant naturally so what are your thoughts true fertility starts to
kind of decrease slightly at around the age of 32 there are some studies that have started
shown that like even around 28 it starts to go down a little bit and so then basically it kind
of slowly creeps down unfortunately when you get into your like late mids right as you get closer
to 40 that's when it just kind of nose dives okay that's for the general public again of course
there are women that are going to be fertile after 40s 45 they get naturally pregnant but that's
overall everybody and so that's why you have to be conscious of it besides fertility the other
thing that why we have these ages where we're like, oh, it's 35. It's because that's what we
consider advanced maternal age because your risk of... No, pediatric. Don't they call it like...
No. Geriatric. Geriatric. I hate that. I hate that. I hate that. Oh, barf. So I like to stick
with the AMA or advanced maternal age, but it's also because that's where your risk of down
syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities start to increase. So that's also why we kind
to choose those numbers. I think a good idea is just kind of start thinking about fertility and
egg freezing and things like that when you start to near that 35 range. At least if you don't have
like a plan in the next couple like year or two years to at least go have like a counseling
appointment with a fertility doctor. I'm 37. I froze mine last year. Oh, you did? Yeah. How was
it? How was it? Because we hear it's just like horrible. It's not that bad, honestly. I mean,
it depends on how sensitive you are to hormones and it also depends on like where your body's at
like i was i felt fortunate that i went in and it turns out oh you don't have any fertility issues
so the whole process was really just one menstrual cycle for women that have issues that could take
longer to get them at the place where they're ready to have egg have their eggs frozen um but
to me overall it wasn't so bad you know you have to you go on birth control you go off you take
shots the procedure itself wasn't a big deal afterward i had you know some of the side effects
which is like very bad discomfort and bloating and that was pretty bad but again it was short and
i'm really happy i did it i definitely feel like it took like my own psychological pressure off
and how much is it usually like a range um i think it depends on your situation but again
it's going to range usually somewhere between like 10 15 000 some insurance um do cover it now
which is awesome and like i was saying i have friends who work for big companies that the
companies are starting to pay Google's doing it right yeah so cool so I think it's definitely
worth going in and talking to someone um that when I went to sit down this is interesting to me as I
was like well am I just even too old for it now like should I have just done it earlier in my 30s
and if I'm gonna have to do IVF anyway why don't I just wait for that and the fertility doctor was
like you know Perry like all of your information is is from when we were residents like every
single year it gets better and better and i'm a general ob-gyn so i'm not keeping up with all
the fertility medicine as you know as fast as it's coming out and he's like now i usually tell
people around like 36 37 and the process the eggs thawing back like even a few years ago like oh
it's not very good you might as well just do ivf and wait till you get an embryo it's like no now
we thaw them really well and so it really it really just like put my mind at ease well that
stressing me out because i'm 31 and they would probably tell you wait no yeah yeah because like
you hear different answers from so many different people and i'm single so it's like i don't have
any sort of a plan however i do 100 want kids so people saying it they're doing it at 32 or 33 i'm
like do i need to start thinking about this also another question with all my friends who are
getting pregnant or who are pregnant um some of their doctors uh do the genetic testing and
suggest it some of them never even brought it up some of them had to ask some of them had to beg
beg to get it in the south um yeah you know yeah um so i i did it um just because i knew like
certain ethnicities like i'm our carriers of cystic fibrosis and that's like i'm jewish and
i know that a lot of us are carriers my sister was a carrier yeah um and so i ended up being
a carrier and then they're like your husband now needs to get checked right um so do you
you suggest doing that or it's it's totally personal i talk to my patients and tell them
about it and give them the option so there's there's different when you talk about genetic
testing there's things like you're talking about like cf tasax or you know if you're african
american sickle cell anemia things that run more in a certain ethnicity then those are
to be recommended for those ethnicities. Then there's kind of a general screening for like
any sort of chromosomal abnormality, Down syndrome. So there's kind of some different
options depending on the person. But if you're just general and I would offer it to everybody
and I would basically, the way I counsel people is you just want to think about is this information
that you want to know? Will it make a difference in the way that you treat the pregnancy? If
you're somebody that is like oh if we have this certain problem I will terminate then definitely
yeah you want to know yeah but if you're someone who's like well I wouldn't no matter what then
you've got to decide well would I want to know the information to be prepared right and so basically
you've just got to decide like yourself and you know the father of the baby is that something that
you want to know what will I do with this information right if you're the type of person
that it won't matter and it's just going to cause you anxiety well then don't do it right but if
If you're the type of person that wants to be informed and prepared, then do it.
Well, and I just – no, sorry.
I just – I didn't realize that there's so much to do before.
That was something that a friend of mine –
Before the test?
Before getting pregnant.
So a friend of mine got pregnant.
Well, you can do, yeah, genetic screening prior.
Yeah.
The ones that when you're pregnant is more going to be for, like, downs, and we also look at spina bifida.
Yeah.
But, yeah, exactly.
If you want to just know yourself what you're a carrier of, depending on your ethnicity, there's going to be ones that are recommended.
But now there's also tests that just basically run your DNA and they see with you what you carry.
It's crazy.
How often does a baby – this is the last question.
We've got to go.
We've got to let you go.
How often is a baby born now and there's like something like Down syndrome that you didn't know about before the baby came out?
Very rarely.
Right?
Very rarely.
Now with when we have – with all the genetic screening that we have available and also the imaging that we have available with ultrasounds,
most likely you're going to pick something up very rarely do you see if they've had good prenatal care
now granted if you've never seen a doctor and you show up well then you're going to be at higher
risk for something you didn't know about right but if you've had good prenatal care most of the time
they're going to catch an abnormality and how soon before you start trying do you suggest
prenatal vitamins i think anybody who's of reproductive age should be on prenatal vitamins
just in case or or a multivitamin that has folic acid in it that's what's recommended
because you want it in your system for, like, three months before you get pregnant
to protect against spina bifida, and most pregnancies are unplanned, right?
Yeah.
Wow.
Interesting.
We need to have you back.
We need to have you back.
I know.
So many more questions.
So many more questions.
We didn't even do that.
Like a three-hour special.
Yeah.
