Well, what is this?
Welcome to the Lady Gang.
That's amazing.
Say that again.
The Lady Gang.
Things are about to change around here.
Each week, we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and
Jack Vanek.
Hello, hello, hello.
Welcome to the Lady Gang.
I'm Becca Tobin, here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight.
Hi.
Hi.
What's up?
How's it going?
Hello.
It's a banana phone.
Oh.
Oh, wow.
Wowie, wowie.
This is the level we've gotten to, banana phone jokes.
Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, banana phone.
Actually, this sort of leads me into my good week, bad week.
So let's hit it.
Oh, God.
It's time for...
Good week.
Yes, it is.
Bad week.
Oh, no.
Let's hit it.
Let's hit it.
Let's hit it.
From the top.
Take it from the top.
You're like yelling so loud that your mic is like going off.
She's shaking.
Her screen is shaking.
sorry um okay so i my bad week i'll start with the bad week first i don't think i'm ready to
experience normal life again um being social and like being around people i think i've lost all
ability to interact like a normal human because i haven't been doing that and so i went to palm
Springs for a socially distanced getaway. My friend owns the Sands Resort there in Indian
Wells and they did an incredible job. They just reopened and everything was like hospital grade
cleaning in the rooms and everybody's socially distanced and wearing masks. So it was amazing.
The experience was great, but we went with some friends who we've incorporated into the circle
at this point. And I realized that I am now incapable of being social and normal.
well but these are people within your bubble because i have my friend bubble too of people
that i mean we've socially distanced but only see each other yeah um but i don't know if i can go
beyond those three people it was hard even with our circle like that long that concentrated amount
of time a full weekend i walked away from every situation feeling really weird and awkward and
like so it was bizarre so that's where i'm at i think the big problem with it though is there's
nothing happening in anybody's lives personally to talk about. Yeah, I guess that's true. So
there's no like, you just didn't have friends before. Like the transition for me is going to
be so easy. I'm going to go back to not seeing anyone and sitting in my house. Yeah. Like,
so this is your own doing. It's true. All right. My good week is a real good week. So
our collection with express drop. Oh God. What was that? I was, my dropped was too aggressive.
Um, we're so excited. We have our collaboration with express. As you guys know, we've designed
an empowering, fun and effortlessly wearable collection. It's packed with all of our
personalities. And let me just tell you a little story about our personalities.
So Jack was photographed. You guys have seen the picture a million times in this denim
jumpsuit and she has it unzipped down to her sternum. Oh my God. Such a fight. Such a fight.
But you guys, I went wedding dress shopping in a mask with my friend who's getting married at
the end of the year. And I wore the denim jumpsuit, but I zipped it all the way up,
like all the way up. And I'm going to put it on Instagram. I got so many compliments that day.
it was so cute. I wore it with like a hat. Um, and I felt like I have really have arrived as a
fashion designer. So, um, anyways, if you guys, you guys have to go over there and buy it because
it's selling out very quickly. Um, and all the stuff is really cute. Okay. I'm going to, no,
I have to go now. Jack, I, I, I'm asking you nicely. I need to go because you didn't say
you were not asking you said i need to go because i have to get this out i have wanted to say it for
four weeks but i had to choose an episode that i knew chris knight would not listen to okay i bad
week pooped my pants oh my god what i pooped my pants wearing one of my favorite pieces from our
express collection oh my god how did that happen i have had it's my first ever poop in my pants
ever like i never have you made it this long without a poop in your pants i guess i don't know
i've peed my pants before but so i have had like just a lot of anxiety and i have not been sleeping
well and i was sitting outside and i thought my stomach has been really upset i haven't been able
to eat and um this is a couple weeks ago so i've saved this up and then i'm sitting outside and i
thought i had a fart and it was not and it came out and i was like did i just get my period like
i didn't know what happened and so i like ran to the bathroom and i was like what is this like i
didn't even understand it it was embarrassing and congratulations it just happened so i'm fresh
to it. You are a woman. Now I, I've also crossed a major milestone of womanhood. Good for you.
No shame. So that was my bad week. And I feel like I've like had a rite of passage.
My good week is that we are starting to get our reviews on Amazon of the book right now. We have
140. I would like to have 1,140 please. Um, but they're amazing. Like they're so great. They're
so well thought out. Like everyone's posting just like the most beautiful things like, Oh,
the book jack you did such a great job and you know it's like so nice and then we got this one
which is my favorite of all time so much better than i anticipated honestly that is the way we
like to go the bar is low it's low well you just talked about pooping your pants obviously her
expectations for the book were low yeah but i love that your expectations were low and it was better
than you thought it was gonna be you're welcome honestly that's all we can really ask for we're
not asking for like the best book you've ever read. No, I mean, we got New York times, which is
unbelievable, but like, we're not asking to be like the life-changing book. It's just as long
as we're better than expected, I think we did our jobs. Thank you. I'm feeling so good and so bad
about myself. So it's like a, quite a great mix this week. You're balanced. All right, Jackie,
you can go now. Thank you, Kelty. So my good week is I have a new word for the dictionary
and it's really relevant to the times. It's Corona coaster. It is the ups and downs of
the pandemic. One day you're loving your bubble, doing workouts and baking sourdough. And the next
you're crying, crying, drinking wine for breakfast and missing people you don't even like.
Yes, that's so true. It also reminds me of the fact that I really still haven't received a
sourdough loaf from any of the people in my life. That's all I've wanted during COVID. So
well jared tried to um do a sourdough starter and oh my god they smell like it's probably the
worst smell i've ever smelled in my entire life sourdough bread is not like really a great odor
but the starter it's like so yeasty it is nasty i need to throw it away it's feet it's it's like
a yeasty foot gross it's so gross okay so anyways but what i like to call the bottom part of the
Corona coaster is the hell zone. Like you dip into the hell zone every few days and it's not,
it's not, you don't know why there's no reason. No, no outside forces that are like making you
do that. It's just eating breakfast and all of a sudden you're in the hell zone and then you're
in the hell zone. It sucks. Okay. So my bad week is I haven't been sleeping well because of, you
know, life. And, um, in addition to my prescription sleep medicine that I take, I've been taking
melatonin with it, which is safe by the way. And the melatonins that I take are those little
capsules with the powder in them so i go to take it before bed i'm laying down and then i was like
oh i got a burp so i like go to sit up so i can like clear my passageway and along with the burp
comes out all of the powder from my melatonin in like a oh it's like from the movie hocus pocus
when the guy comes up from the grave and like ripped his mouth open it poof dust it was just
dust take what you do swallow the pill without water yeah but like you know when you swallow
that's your problem jack wait no i didn't take your pills with water she did oh it didn't you
know when it gets stuck like kind of in your esophagus yeah you can kind of feel it there
it felt it but i didn't realize that with a burp it would come out in a big poof of dust so that
was fun it got all over my face and my bed so it's like the the things that come out when you
release gas you don't know you don't know what it's gonna be you really don't it could be anything
surprise and we do have a good week we have a very special guest when we come back we're going
to get into bed now back to the lady gang our guest today is an entertainment business icon
with her decades-long career as an actress host and honestly she's famous for mostly being herself
It all began when she was simply putting on some lipstick in Miami and got scattered by
one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world.
32 years after appearing as a rose bearer in Coming to America, one of the greatest
movies of all time, she's reviving her role in 2020 in the much-anticipated sequel.
But honestly, who cares about movies?
All we care about are the housewives.
And our guest has won us over again, starring on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Our very own Becca Tobin raved about her being included on the show and said,
Garcelle is exactly what the show needed.
Just a few weeks ago, she included us on her show, her podcast, Going to Bed with Garcelle.
Please welcome to the lady gang, Garcelle Bouvet.
Hello.
I wanted to ask you something.
So I'm Canadian, so I had to take French, and I think you should be Bouvet.
Well, thank you for that, Kelsey, but I'm not.
I'm Bouvet.
because you're are you i'm haitian yeah haitian and so is it the french a little different there
no it's the same french except that we speak creole which is a patois you know for like
the island folks speak patois got it well it's very sexual anyway thank you so much
ladies i'm so happy to be on your podcast so i loved being on your podcast by the way
yeah so much fun you guys are great you went there i was shocked but you go there too i mean
we've met our match yes if you guys are looking for another really great unfiltered sort of naughty
podcast this is where it's at i think it's a perfect compliment garcelle really pushed us
like in like the whole we don't talk about sex as much on our podcast so you like really pushed us
to our our boundaries there too so it was really fun i loved it thank you for coming on thanks for
speaking of this morning it's been years i got a dick an un um unsolicited dick pic in my dms on
instagram yeah i wonder who just a guy that was said so i don't know i think i deleted it guys
because it was like very exciting can we just talk about that for a moment why do guys send it to us
that's not arousing to me there's no way this guy's real penis either because like it was
guinness yeah for sure there's no way a dude that's dming loser me on instagram has that
penis he's like kelsey this picture is specifically for for you it has your name on it nope nope um
You are so busy. You have so much going on. Why start a podcast?
I've always wanted to do, sort of have a platform where I can talk to my friends
and we can talk about what we really talk about, which is sex and dating and all that stuff.
So it was just a matter of time. And then quarantine, thank God, it gave me something
to do because I was going to go mad because like you said, I love being busy. I love doing a lot
of different things. So once COVID came and we were stuck in the house, it was like, oh my God,
what am I going to do? So it was the perfect time to start going to bed with Garcelle.
And we did go to bed. So why, how did you come up with that title?
Why are we going to bed with you? Well, not to toot my own horn, but I'd like to think a lot
people want to. I didn't come up with the name. What I usually, what I used to do is once a month
I would have on a Sunday when I didn't have my kids, I would invite friends over. And sometimes
I would do just girls. Sometimes I would do couples or just an eclectic group. And we would
sit around, we drink, we gossip, we eat. We eventually would talk about sex. So at the end
of every time I did this at my house, somebody would say, this is a show. Why aren't you doing
this? And so finally we got around to doing it. I would like to see the trajectory of this podcast
become a talk show. Would you ever want to do something like that? Girl, shut up. That is my
dream. I mean, everything else can go away. That would be my dream. Oh, it's happening.
It's happening. You just put it in the universe. It's there guys. Thank you.
So I want to know how they approached you to be on Housewives.
Okay.
So a couple of years ago, there were sort of rumors that they were interested, but it
wasn't a good time for me.
My kids were too little.
I, you know, my divorce was still fresh and it just didn't feel right.
And this time around, my manager called me and he said, hey, there's some interest with
you with Beverly Hills, but I'm going to pass.
I'm just telling you.
And I was like, hold on, hold on a minute.
Let me think about this.
let me sleep on it. And then I thought about it. I talked to the boys. I talked to my ex
and it felt like the timing was better. I wasn't in a relationship. So I thought going into it,
being married, I think sometimes affects relationships. My kids are 12. They're at
a better age where I feel like they can handle it. And then I thought, why not? I was traveling
so much last year with doing Coming to America. I was doing a show called Tell Me a Story in
Nashville. I was shooting in Vancouver and it just felt like a lot. And I really want to be
home with my kids. And I know the women, I'm a fan of the franchise, obviously. And I thought
if I'm going to choose one franchise, I would do Beverly Hills over Atlanta because Atlanta
would eat me alive in day one. I'd come out of there, where'd Garcelle go? So I was like,
everything else seems like it's my lane so that's how it came about you go ahead back no i'm just
i've i've watched the franchise from the beginning and i was i have to oh yes i have to and it's my
favorite one so i was a little nervous about you know vanderpump leaving and i didn't know what
that would be like but i have to say you have revived that show it feels like the same show
but a new, a new kind of version of it where it's a, you've classed it up a lot. Thank you for that.
Um, I'm going to get that. I'm going to get it for that. According to me, me, just me,
she has classed that show up a lot. And I also just, I really appreciate that you have a huge,
huge, uh, work behind you. I mean, you have like so much legitimacy as a business woman,
And you can tell you're not going on this show to like sell leggings eventually.
You know what I mean?
Did you know I was going to have a leggings line?
Shit.
I mean, you could do that too.
Your intentions just sort of seem like I want to show what a real woman, a real business
woman, a real mother, like it's cool.
It's not veiled in BS, which I think a lot of new girls get into that little, a little
bit.
Let me tell you, it's a tough platform to come on.
I mean, I feel like shooting the show was one thing, but then, you know, once it comes out, then people start weighing in their opinion and Twitter starts taking sides and seeing things in ways that I'm like, I never really even saw it that way.
So there was a lot of pressure and I think a lot of pressure for me also coming on as a first black woman.
I felt like people like, oh, girl, come and read them.
And it was like, well, I don't really want to do that if no one's reading me first.
Right.
Right.
and so there was a lot of pressure of just you know how is she gonna be is she gonna be sort of
cutthroat and and i just really wanted to be me and who knows how that'll turn out like season
two if i do season two but i think um i really just wanted to be myself and show who i am wait
that's kind of up what you just said though what i said what i said what i said no no not
on you it's it's it's up like that they would be like you have to come in as like the angry
black woman yeah like that's fucked up but that's like the character they expect you to be i agree
well that's what they expect from us being you know a black woman and i felt like we see that
in so many other shows that that wasn't my point that's not who i am and so i really wanted to be
me but if somebody checks me i'll check them of course but i felt like that wasn't my mo so why
should i that would seem fake if that's how i came on yeah right i love that um will you go back
did you enjoy it i did enjoy it i did enjoy my kids sometimes they were like we don't want to
be mic'd we just want to play video games and i'm like shut up do it thank you thank you you're
like those video games are expensive baby yeah exactly um i did enjoy it i did have fun i loved
the women and uh you know some more than others but that's life isn't it we're not gonna all be
best friends right out of the gate and so we're growing our friendships was filming what you
expected it to be or was it a completely different experience I thought it was scripted to a certain
point I really thought they were going to say okay now you're gonna have beef with this person
and it really wasn't that it was more about okay on Thursday you're gonna get together with Erica
on Saturday you know someone's having a party at their house that's really how it's driven and then
we take care of the rest but the first time we started shooting we're shooting in my house and
so I got mic'd and I'm ready and I'm like waiting for someone to say action oh my god they're like
uh we don't do that just start doing something oh my god you're like lying yeah exactly
yeah and also like getting mic'd in my car like when they put mics in my car
it felt weird because if i'm in my car and i'm by myself i'm cranking up my music or i'm calling a
friend and you can't play music because they can't buy everything you play so when they take the
mics out of the car i don't trust it no i'm like they yeah yeah exactly i don't trust it i still
gotta watch yourself exactly where do you think life and style weekly gets their gossip it's from
some PA. They got those fake mics.
He's saying a goddamn mic in there and
reporting back. That's exactly right.
I believe it. Obviously. Well, can we
talk about all the rumors that are
going around about why it suddenly
stopped airing? Yeah.
Let's talk about it.
We heard that Brandi
Glanville came on and was just
a wild woman,
which, I mean, isn't she always?
Right. But we heard that
it was so inappropriate, the
things that she said and did that
they had to go back and re-edit the whole show that's the rumor that's the rumor first of all
they would love that so much that would never be unedited right i thought i was like i was like
really i mean look at denise saying bravo bravo bravo in the clips which she
1000 thought that that if she said that it would never air they did honey oh they're watching it
right so there you go um the what i've heard and i knew this way before they announced that we were
going on hiatus is that because of covid they didn't have enough time to edit everything i mean
they have a trailer but they didn't have it all edited together but i hear people are like oh
they're doing it to get you know take out the racial slurs and no it's none of that it's not
that salacious. We thought it was juicier. I know we're ready for like the tea.
Sorry, guys. I'm sure though, things that are, life is different now. The world is different now.
So maybe there are things, I remember when I said, when Teddy was talking about eating her placenta
and I was like, oh no, we're black. We don't do that. And some people on Twitter were like,
that's so racist of me to say, but it's not, that wasn't a racist comment. That was a
cultural comment. Culturally, we don't eat our placentas. Right. Right. Right. So that was just
a difference of who we are. Like this difference is between the three of you and family members,
just whatever. In those situations when people are kind of reading you on Twitter, do you want
to be like, go f**k yourselves. I can say whatever I want. Like, I just can't imagine getting
unsolicited feedback and people trying to police what you're saying. Oh, it's so ridiculous. And
I have to have a tougher skin for that. It's so funny because on the exterior, I'm so tough. But
if somebody like, I'll get a thousand amazing tweets and then one of them will stay with me
all day. And I'm like, why am I letting this negative person into my life? But we're human
and it affects you every now and then. Yeah, it really does. Yeah. Speaking of human and your
human heart. So when we were on your podcast, I was like, I have a guy for you. I found out he's
with someone. And are you going to tell me? Well, no, I was going to tell you on, I was waiting for
the podcast. I was going to text you, but then I was like, let me just wait until the podcast.
She wants to let you down in person, Garcelle. No, but what I wanted to know, what I wanted to
know is do you think housewives will help or hurt your love life? Ooh, that's a very good question.
Well, I hope it helps and not hurt.
Yeah, I think it will, too.
I think it will.
I mean, I feel like maybe there might be a few guys who don't want to be on Housewives,
so therefore they may not want to date me.
But, you know, then I guess that weeds them out.
Have you had any unsolicited dick pics sliding into your DMs like Kelty has?
Or have you had any suitors trying to hit you up on Instagram?
No, not yet.
But I definitely have gotten, my kids are still asleep, dick pics for sure.
But I always, but I always wonder, like, what am I supposed to do with that?
Like, am I supposed to lay in bed and masturbate and look at the picture?
That's what I think.
Nobody wants to see a penis at all.
I don't even want to see my husband's penis.
What I want to see is a spa mask.
Okay.
And someone to rub my feet.
That's what I would like to see.
I want to see a picture of a $100 bill.
I would be so pissed off.
Yes.
That's what they should do.
a dick pic surrounded by sushi. I am dying to go to sushi. That's one of the things I can't
wait after where everything's back to normal. Sounds delicious. Yeah. I have a question for
you. Well, I do want to ask you about Coming to America. So I know that you went back and did the
sequel. How did that come about? And what was that like? I mean, that is a movie that is like
a cultural reset, you know, in so many ways. In so many ways. Iconic. I mean, I remember in New
York when I was modeling, they're like, there's this movie and they're, you know, they want,
you know, obviously beautiful women there. And everybody who was like, you know, a beautiful
woman in New York was in this movie. John Landis casted very well. And I remember going up, I went
up originally for the lead of the movie. And listen, I had no business doing that. I was so
green I knew nothing and uh and so when John Landis called my agents and said you know what
we'd love to have her in the movie if she wants to be an actress this is a great introduction
and so I became one of the rose bearers and I mean then we thought oh my god what an opportunity to
be in a movie with Eddie Murphy right right had no idea that when it came out that it was going
to be so iconic and people were going to love it and it made so much money I mean all that aside
that was like, wow, what a feather in my cap in my first thing ever. Right. And then 32 years later,
it's coming back. And we're like, what? So when I got the call, I was like,
are you kidding me? Absolutely. I will pay to be in this. And they're like, no, you're not going
to do that. And flew to Atlanta and, you know, saw Eddie and Arsenio and everybody is back.
it's just we just can't believe it we're all so giddy being on the set and the costumes ruth
carter who did you know black panther i mean my god the costumes are insane and it has to be out
it has to be put on a big screen i'm hoping by the time it comes out you know we'll six feet
apart in exactly something because i know it's supposed to come out 2020 but obviously we're
pushing. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we'll see. Yeah. We'll see. I'm really excited for you. I am also
so excited for you because you look almost exactly the same. Oh my God. You have not aged. So it's
like the Rose bear. I'm like, which version am I watching? So sweet. Shut up. Well, I always say
black don't crack. That's why we all look the same when we went back to the movie, but there
changes barely barely what is your beauty what is your beauty secret like what do you
are you going to see dr diamond like we are every three months like dr diamond first of all i've
never had botox ever what get out of here but i'm thinking maybe this year no but i've never done
that um bye thanks for coming if you haven't gotten botox by now you're never gonna need it
No, no, no, no. I don't think so. No, I'm starting to see things. Um, but I don't know. I feel like
a lot of it is my genes, obviously what I, you know, what my parents gave me, but then I, I
maintain it. I have eczema, so that's a big deal. So I stay on top of my skin, you know,
a very sensitive, I'm allergic to latex. I'm allergic to a bunch of things.
Me too.
Are you?
And I have eczema. We're like.
Shut up. We're twins.
Twinsies.
So maybe you guys will take me to Dr. Diamond.
oh my god garcelle he is but i don't want to i don't want to mess with your face that's why i'm
afraid i'm afraid like if i do something god will be like really girl now you're gonna get whatever
but no you don't eventually i will when you do we'll let you know we'll watch you closely
when we hit you up when we're like girl it's time that's the hard part about watching housewives is
that you know because two things i've learned from watching housewives i gotta stop eating
in the scenes because we, they drink so much. There's so much alcohol that I feel like I have
to offset it with eating. And then I'm in every scene eating and I'm like, that's not good.
I have to learn to eat before I get to, you know, wherever I'm going on housewives. But anyway,
so watching housewives, I see like, oh my God, maybe I do need to start thinking about stuff,
but we'll see. You're good. It's crazy. So I wanted to ask you, we have this segment in our
show i'm pulling it back this is like from early lady gang days called the ish moment hollywood
heartbreak but since you've had such a storied career i want to know your ish moment which is
like the moment you felt like i'm the hottest shit in this town and then your hollywood heartbreak
the moment where you went in for this role and it was between you and halle berry and halle berry
won the oscar and you're like oh my god myself i have a lot of halle berry stories um one thing
going into uh castings right and you're sitting in the auditioning room and you're like oh my god
this is my role this is my role i can't wait i can't wait to get in the room they're gonna see
me they're gonna be like amazing and then you hear the casting director's assistants going
is hallie mary available by any chance i'm never gonna get this
damn it she can't do every job right um okay i have to say this is weird it's not really
like being on set or a movie or part but i had dinner once at tower um bar
with sean penn sean penn does a lot of things for haiti so we were having dinner and i'm sitting
with sean penn and then i feel like there's a figure coming towards the table and it's denzel
washington so i'm sitting with sean denzel comes and he's talking to sean and then he looks over
to me and he goes garcelle and i'm like oh my god i could die right now oh my god that was the
moment i was like oh okay she's arrived okay um what's your hollywood heartbreak
um so that's somebody who broke my heart is that what you mean it's like when your heart was broken
by hollywood biggest disappointment like the job you missed out on or like you know like becca was
supposed to be rachel mcadams in the notebook and then right now i was never why or whatever
that would have been amazing incredible my biggest heartbreak um i don't know there's a lot i feel
like every time you don't get a role you feel like um you're done it's the last thing you'll
ever do you know what i used to hate being on red carpets when you would say to a reporter
um not you kelty
you would say oh i'm working on this and i'm working on that and they'd go anything else
like it never felt enough it's never enough that's like never enough and that would make
me feel bad like oh like i just told you things that i'm working on it never felt enough and i
think that's the part of hollywood that is the heartbreak because you feel like you're as good
is your last job. And I remember one time I saw Felicity Huffman at a party and, um, and I was
like, Oh my God, what are you working on now? And she said, she says, I don't say I'm unemployed.
I say I'm between projects. And I was like, Oh, that's brilliant. I'm going to say I'm between
projects. I've been between projects for five years. Can I still use that? Is there an age
limit to this? You're like, bitch, you're rested. It's time to go.
you know what? It's really interesting that you brought that up though, because
I think that that is one of the hardest things about a entertainment world is, uh, Becca was
texting me last night about it because I was like, Oh, I got to have something else done by the end
of the summer. I want to have another project or whatever. And she was like, it's June. We became
New York times bestsellers. You got a second Emmy. Like we have our clothing line. Like
what else do you need? And, and there's this weird, like, it's never enough. You win the Oscar
and it's like, can you be an EGOT? You know, it's like, if there's never a, how much, like how much
is enough? And I think that's why I'm going to like deep therapy right now. I'm not laughing
at that, but it's true though. It's never enough. Yeah. Do either of your boys want to be in
entertainment not at all wow they could care less we tried to do the modeling thing when people like
oh my god they should be models and you know i would take them to auditions and they'd be like
we don't want to be here can we please go to the park and i was like why force it yeah you know
it's not their thing but one of them though is such he's such a techie and he's like he has
companies where he will suggest something in a game and they will implement it and i'm like
stop giving that away for free. Let's make some college money. I'm afraid one day there's going
to be a knock on the door. It's going to be the FBI because he's hacked into something. And they're
like, where's Jack's nylon? I'll be like upstairs in his room. He's going to be a hacker, but then
he'll end up working for the FBI. So then don't they have like a $10 million reward out right now
for someone who can hack the iCloud? Like Apple themselves is like challenging every hacker. So
tell your son. I'm telling Jax. Get that money. That's that college money. Yeah. Before we go to
ask the lady gang, my last question to you is, you know, in your life, you've been so open, um,
and quite honest about the ups and downs. You've been through marriage. You talked about it on,
when we were on your podcast, uh, fertility issues, divorce, infidelity. Um, if you could
say one thing to our ladies about love, loving yourself, um, the trials and tribulations of
womanhood, you know, do you have advice? Do you have an overall sort of mantra you live by?
You know, what's been really hard quarantine has really hit me hard. Um, especially at first,
cause I just felt like there was no distractions. There's none of the stuff that we go to,
whether it's, you know, working out or hanging out with your friends or any of that stuff.
And what I'm realizing is at the end of the day, all we have is us.
That's it, ourselves.
And if you're not okay with who you are, then I think that's the hardest challenge.
Because at the end of the day, it's just us.
And I don't mean that in a, what we have inside, we can't run away from.
And no matter where you go, you're the common denominator.
So for me, I'm trying to be okay with what I have right now.
And I think that plays along to what you said about never feeling like we've done enough,
we're enough.
And I think just feeling okay with who you are is huge.
And we don't need other people to validate us.
Just looking in the mirror and liking one thing, you know, about yourself.
Don't go through all of it because you're going to find stuff that you don't like.
But just going, you know what?
I'm so proud of my body.
Yeah, could it be toner?
Yeah, could it be leaner?
But you know what?
My body is what I have to work with and being okay with that.
And I think just a little bit of that every day goes a long way.
And that's what I'm working on.
And that's why she's going to fix your life.
You're listening to The Lady Gang.
Okay.
Take us to church.
Church of Garcelle.
Okay.
So, Garcelle.
You guys, that's so much fun.
We love you.
For this part of our podcast, we have our listeners writing questions and we try to fix their lives.
sometimes our advice isn't the best but you know we try okay okay so our first question comes from
anonymous she says i'm 24 my boyfriend is 27 and we've been together for three years i used to have
a crazy sex drive but for the last couple months i've had zero desire unless i'm drunk the other
night i even had to ask him to stop because of how badly i did not want to have sex i feel like
I'm too young in this relationship is too new to feel like this. I love him and we never argue,
but things are so plain and constant that I think I'm just bored. Help me not need three
glasses of wine just to sleep with my sweet boyfriend. Oh my God. That's so sad. Yes. Way
too young not to have a sex drive. Um, I think if you don't argue in a relationship, I think
something's wrong with my ex-husband. We never really argued. And I think because it just stayed
the same all the time that i don't think that's normal either um i think she has to take a break
take a break from the boyfriend and go find herself and do something fun and i don't know
almost like eat pray love in a way even though we're quarantined but i don't know how you eat
pray love in the same house but i feel like switching it up maybe taking a break yeah and
finding her yeah i mean it's hard especially i feel like quarantine is like making and breaking
a lot of couples and having that constant time around you all all the time and if your relationship
isn't exciting and there's not a lot going on then that monotony is probably like oh my god
and then the last thing you want to do is have sex right exactly i feel like there's gonna be a lot
of eligible men after quarantine there's gonna be a lot of divorces not that i wish that on anybody
but you know what i mean i mean and my answer is always a fredericks of hollywood crotchless
but i will say that sometimes some of this is your mindset too and sex with the same person
over and over again absolutely gets boring so whether or not this happens with your boyfriend
now or it happens in 10 years with your husband like you have to have that drive inside of you
to work through whatever you're feeling. And then also like show someone how to, you know,
like maybe you just need to say, Hey, I need you to throw me against a wall or whatever in a nice
way, in a sexual way, not like, and then throw me against a wall way. Right. All right. Next
question. Sorry. Always take it to the unitard. Take it to the unitard and leave it at the
into Tard Guilty. Sorry. I'm sorry. Okay. Our next question comes from Jamie. Jamie says I'm
turning 26 at the end of the year and I'm feeling so lost. I got married at 21 and had a baby in
January after trying for two years. Now halfway through my twenties, I feel like I'm losing sight
of who I am. I want to go to college, but I can't decide on a career path, nor can I afford to go
full time. I'm the only one of my friends who didn't go to college, is married and has a kid.
and I often find myself being jealous of all of them.
I'm so happy in my role as wife and mom,
but I have no time for myself
and fear my quote unquote soul searching opportunity
has already passed.
How can I get back to finding and being me
for even just five minutes?
Wow, that's a tough one.
I say she has to, you know, maybe part-time job somewhere.
Do you know what I mean?
Just doing something for her
or just getting in the car for a drive and going to the beach
and having a picnic with yourself, you know what I mean?
Just getting some time as a mom, especially that young, it's really tough.
I mean, kids, you know, they latch on, they want you.
You guys don't have any kids yet.
And it's a lot because you sort of give up yourself to be a mom in a way.
But I say taking time.
Maybe she doesn't have to go to college, but maybe interning someplace
and, you know, just doing something that will make her happy for her
and being able to be around other adults.
stuff like that i don't know what you guys think i agree i think a lot of my girlfriends who have
young kids they say that the biggest frustration the ones that don't have jobs is that their every
day is around children and kids things and there's no interesting conversation and um yeah and like
just getting into a new environment even if it is a part-time job in an area where maybe you like
fashion go work in a boutique or beauty um go work at sephora like just getting in front of people
who like the same things and who are actual adults, it does make a difference. It kind of
revives you a little bit, I think. Well, I think that there also is the whole grass is always
greener where I'm sure your friends are also looking at your relationship and they're jealous
of the stability and the family unit that you have, because that's something that's not easy
to just like throw together. Um, so I think also just, you know, taking, um, note of what you have
as well, where it's like, we're all fucking jealous, but we don't have, right. FOMO. Right.
Yeah. Always. Yeah. Did you take, did you find that you took a little bit of time off when you
had the babies or like, yeah. Yeah. At what point? Well, first of all, I had two of them.
So that was really hard to at the same time. Oh my God. It was the hardest thing. The first year
was so crazy. Um, yeah, I did. I didn't work, but then I had, you know, my husband was working and
so I could afford to do that. But once I did though, I loved it. I mean, I was like praying
for a job so I could get out of the house. So I get it. You want to, you want to break and you
want to feel like you again, you know, like when you're pregnant, everybody's all about your belly
and then the babies come there. Everybody's all about the babies and you want, you know,
people to see you and look at your eyes and talk to you for a change. So I could totally see, um,
it's tough. Interesting. Okay. Go into our last question. I'm 25 working on personal goals and
I'm very ambitious. I have two jobs, a consistent fitness plan and taking care of my own shit.
I've always taken care of myself, but I feel that sometimes my independence can be a turnoff when
starting to date or a new relationship. Either their insecurities about their own lives get in
the way or they treat me like they want to control me, which I'm too headstrong for. I'm not trying
to find a husband right this second, but I still worry that I might be attracting all the wrong
men and will eventually end up alone as I try to find Mr. Perfect. How can I break through this
barrier when it comes to dating? Well, I ran into this a lot because I am a great woman.
Kelsey, this girl sounds very much like you. Listen, the right man will be turned on and so
proud of you. I talk about this in our book. You know, when I met Chris, he was not intimidated by
the fact that I was a workaholic. He was not intimidated that I knew exactly what I wanted
to do. He is not intimidated that I'm interviewing Jared Leto. He's like, I don't care. I'm not,
I'm not into that world. I don't care about that world. I don't classify myself in that world. So,
you know, you're going to find the right guy that is so excited that you are sparkly,
bright girl with a workout plan and, you know, like you're, you're going to find that man.
And when you do hold them tight, because there are a lot of men I found that can at times be
intimidated by a great woman. And what her fear is absolutely true because that, especially in
25, like it really takes a man until they're late twenties, thirties, fifties to like really
be confident? Well, not even that. Like it's also maybe, so I'm obviously not a K type. Like I don't
have my like lists and shit of what I'm doing, but I am a very strong personality. And my whole 20
is I spent dating these alpha guys that were, did always want to be the one that is in control.
And that just did not mesh well with my personality at all. And none of those relationships
worked out. So it's, for me, it was finding a partner that did see all those qualities in me
it as a strong thing and embrace those rather than trying to kind of take the control out of
the relationship in itself. So it is kind of figuring out what kind of partner works well
with your personality. Okay. I agree with you guys. I also feel like for me, since I've been
independent all my life, that I have to find a balance of being strong, but then letting a guy
be a guy, right? Like these days we're so independent. We can make the money, we can
bring it home. We can cook it. We can do all that stuff that we have to also be a little bit.
I'm not saying less than we have to let the guys also be the guys, you know, and opening the doors.
Right. Right. The pickle jar. Can you open this for me? It's such a good balance. Yeah,
it's true. I kind of let my husband, the things that I don't really care that much about,
even though I know I'm capable of taking control. It's like, Hey, I don't, I don't need to make an
itinerary for this vacation. I don't need to book flights, live your life. And that's his thing.
And even though I know I could do that. And a lot of my girlfriends have a harder time
relinquishing that control. There, there is a big element of that is like letting go a little bit.
Right. Exactly. Finding the balance. Yep. Well, we found the balance by having you on the show.
