Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Lady Gang, welcome to Flashback Friday, where we bring some of our favorite Lady Gang episodes from the vault to you in the feed. We have over 600 episodes of this podcast, and whether you're an OG and you've heard this episode before, or you're a new listener and we're just bringing this up and you had no idea we had this person on our podcast, well, you're welcome. Small caveat here, we are an imperfect group of trio of ladies, and we've been podcasting for almost six and a half years. If something we said in this podcast doesn't align with Lady Gang 2020, please give us
Starting point is 00:00:29 grace. For instance, there was a period on Lady Gang where I was not into Taylor Swift. It was the reputation era. I wasn't feeling what she was begging. But now I'm like a Swifty again. And so I just don't want you to hold me to that because we're all growing and learning and our opinions change pretty much every day. Without further ado, welcome to Flashback Friday.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here. Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse. Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I'm Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. And Orly and Callie. Yet again. Orly and Callie. I can't wait until we're rich enough to have dog nannies. I need a dog nanny. Like, I have a great dog walker, but I need this dog.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Somebody's got to watch these annoying little f***ers. I mean, we could also leave them at home. Yeah, but then I have to pay for a dog walker to go take her out because she's alone all day. Because we work so much now. We work so much. This side hustle became a full-time hustle. It really did. Yeah, we're fortunate AF about it.
Starting point is 00:01:36 I know. Yeah, we're so excited about this full-time hustle. Are you eating dog treats? What are those? Yes, I'm eating dog treats. No, I'm feeding the dogs dog treats. I'm proud of you for eating that apple and peanut butter. Were you so happy?
Starting point is 00:01:46 Oh my gosh, that was very healthy of you. I'm so excited about today's show because my friend Michael Yeo is here. He's the best. And we have so many stories. we've known each other for a long time. I used to cry in his room about my career. We were so tired. Oh, geez. Nothing has changed. Nothing's changed. But that's fine because we want to start with Good Week, Bad Week, I guess. All right. It's time for Good Week. Yes, it is. Bad Week. Oh, no. Who's going first? I'll go. So Jared and I went to Starbucks. This is my Good Week. Jared
Starting point is 00:02:16 and i went to the starbucks the other day and they misspelled his name in the best way possible jared j-e-r-d like no joke and it was amazing i've never like how could you mispronounce jared into jared jared i've gotten jaff before that's my worst what have you gotten has anybody mispronounced your name bad no because i always use a fake name what do you it's all i press kelly kelly yeah because no one can spell kelty and then they're always like what and then i I feel like I'm famous now. I can't really be like K-E-L. There's still so many famous people, like really famous people.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Can you spell Keanu Reeves? Right, but I don't think Keanu Reeves goes and is like, it's Keanu. He's probably like, it's Adam. It's true. And they're probably like, no, it's not. You're like, we know this sad guy. No one's stopped me yet. Although I will say that the coffee bean on the corner when I go in, he's like, it's podcast girl.
Starting point is 00:03:13 So he's like, where are you going today? I'm like, I'm going to podcast. he's like i love podcasts and he always remembers me so i stopped who you are that's because you just kept saying you're going to a podcast yeah but he's always like podcasting today and i was like every day every day dude okay jerd jerd it was great um my bad week so we wear fake hair when we film and do what i know just to let you guys know maybe you do and one day after we were filming i was in my car driving home and i took my weave pieces out of my hair and i kind of just like sat him on the seat of my car and a couple days later i still hadn't taken him out of my car they'd just
Starting point is 00:03:50 been sitting there becca's on there one day yeah and i went to go valet my car fun and i know you know rich people things so i valet my car the guy gives me the car back he gets out of the car he stands up and one of my hair pieces is stuck the clip is like stuck in his back pocket no oh my god and i like didn't know what to do so i was like he starts to like kind of walk away and i like kind of just go and i'm like and i just just lift it out of his pocket without noticing but if i didn't he would have looked like he had a horse tail that is so hot my extensions are pretty long can i go next because mine goes with the thing but that was amazing thank you i also have some new hair in my life clayton hawkins oh yeah bless his heart you
Starting point is 00:04:35 remember him from cookies as hair time with clay um we went wig shopping so my hair has really taken a toll i had it in such a healthy wonderful place and then it went to shit when we were doing the tv show because it was like tv plus regular job plus and i just haven't been eating right and no vitamins and anyway it just sucks my hair is back to being like almost hashimoto's oh god here we go so he was like we should get some wigs now i had a wig before and i had a bad experience because I looked like I was wearing a ridiculous wig. He's like, no, no, trust me. So Clayton took time out of his day, and he took me to the wig shop.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Did you go to the hair shop? No, it's a different one. I don't even want to tell you what it is. Well, it's called His and Hers. Thank you. Okay, that's where you get my extensions from. They hand make all the wigs there. For real?
Starting point is 00:05:20 They're like super beautiful. And so he puts the thing on me, and then we start trying on wigs. First of all, don't have a face for a wig. I tried so many looks. I was like, ooh, let me try a pixie. And I was like, let me try a blue. Let me try a dark bob. i am not beautiful those are all very very hard choices for a face i did buy two new wigs what
Starting point is 00:05:40 do they look like um one is super long we're gonna cut it up they both need to be dyed so it's real hair and then you can color it they're lace front and then i got a short one that i'm gonna wear on tv all the time and so once i get these dyed you're never gonna see i'm gonna be essentially dolly parton like you will not see my real hair for another 50 years it's been 50 years since we saw that real hairline my hair sucks it's like i can't wait to grow up my hair and have beautiful hair that has never been touched by a flat iron that's smart so you're just not going to touch it at all you don't think i'm going to wear my wig do you no i think you might give it a shot but i don't know how hard is it to put on the who's going to do it no it's so easy you just
Starting point is 00:06:19 put your hair in a braid and then you just pop it on so you can do it yourself they don't have to like do it where they like take the lace and then they like put the glue no i'm not going to do that because i'm on tv so it's like far away oh so i'll have my wig like for today i'd have my wig on all day and then we would podcast and i would just take the wig off so it's not like the kardashian wigs where it's like it literally looks like their little wispy hairs are in the front yeah because it's lace front so those are like little wispy hairs but they do have the kind that you don't unless you're going like full beyonce and doing like a like throwing your head around you don't actually need to glue it down to your head is my thought but i don't know the
Starting point is 00:06:51 answer no you it's like on broadway he would pin curl your hair yeah and then you would pin like do little buns all over your head yeah and then you would just pin the wig to the buns yeah oh exactly i'm excited but the ones that i tried on i don't know if they just fit my head so perfectly it's like you wouldn't even need to pin it on you would want to pin it just in case like what if you went to go hug somebody and the wig came out okay oh my god don't pin it i need this bad week for future and honestly i need them to catch it on camera yeah it would be good okay bad week um i gotta tell you something i have been so excited to get back on the health train and i got to motivate myself i bought a whole bunch of new workout gear and i was like i'm
Starting point is 00:07:34 gonna get all this new workout gear and i'm gonna be super motivated i have a bone to pick with the world and it is center seams oh god on the crotch we have vaginas everyone that makes leggings everywhere can we not have a center seam it is if i have a big vagina sure but i speak for all women there is a 3d printer out there that could make us a legging that has a cotton gusset like a ballet tight yeah i don't need a center seam why is the seam in the center i would rather have the seam along the sides center seam pants oh i crush me i know a good brand but don't say it now because they're not paying us but just text me later okay true okay my good week is so a couple episodes back remember when kelty was arguing with me about playing roxy hart in chicago yeah you got
Starting point is 00:08:25 an offer to play and she's saying yeah like a lot in the podcast oh yeah everybody's talking about it i love the amount of people that i reached out to you commenting on being like my favorite part of any episode ever was kelty's bad singing in lady gang so many people were like so many they're still talking about it they're still messaging me being like oh i turned on the podcast today i got in my car and it was at the point where kelty was singing at the top of her lungs and it was so embarrassing it was so good i think you've never been better it was good for a few reasons i did see that many people in our facebook group voted you as roxy which is no not really anyone voted for me no but i mean was my singing that bad it wasn't great i think
Starting point is 00:09:10 it wasn't great honestly it's been a while when i listened back to it i was like oh this sounded better but wait my friend david he was actually one of my favorite texts from just today oh god he said i put on your podcast with kelty singing it reminded me of the singing conductor i had on my way down to san diego one day oh please see video for reference we'll put up to your mic that guy sounds great it sounds like you did yeah he sounds amazing he sounds like a real pro i love him it was great okay so anyways that was my good week my bad week is this you auditioned for roxy or didn't get it no good one um i was on ventura in studio city in la and i was going to crossroads because sometimes if i have stuff that yeah i'm getting rid of i'll
Starting point is 00:10:10 drop it off and then crossroads get some money yeah it's like consignment we're fake rich we're not above this yeah well i go in and it's kind of late at night they don't close until seven or and it was like pretty dark outside and i walk in the store and there's two young girls working behind the counter like young and two crackheads no in the store shopping shopping shoplifting slash being like menaces to society and these two girls are like terrified looking sure and i look at them and i'm like well i'm not gonna leave them in here that's a shitty thing to do so i just stood at the counter and like made busy business with them and the whole time they're like oh we have to watch the guys because sometimes they come in and shoplift and we have to like
Starting point is 00:11:04 tell them to get out and i'm like you know what you crossroads you should have a security guard yeah at your stores if you have young girls working there and people and you are open that late and that is a bad corner apparently because it's not the first time i've seen it and i was like as a business owner that pisses me off it's their job to like no that's so unprotected three dollar t-shirts i mean i'm not gonna say a word if someone's trying to steal something under the influence of whatever they're on no and the next thing they do is they shoot you they stab you what if they had a weapon or rape you and it makes me very mad and i don't know what to do because i'm like do you there's no like contact of right corporate so if anybody
Starting point is 00:11:42 shops at crossroads or knows anybody who owns one they need freaking security guards level the uh it makes me mad well there we go my ex-work husband's here and he also makes me mad stop wasting your nights on a mattress that doesn't get you experience the most comfortable mattress in the world the sleep number smart bed at the touch of a button you can personalize your comfort choose firmer or softer adjust cooler to warmer and right now save up to twenty five hundred dollars during our massive labor day event hurry into your local sleep number store today because we have your number you're listening to the lady gang our guest today is someone i divorced two years ago yes officially
Starting point is 00:12:35 making him my ex-work husband he's often referred to as hollywood's resident entertainment and pop culture expert yo no who's the mother he has appeared on e-news chelsea lately showbiz tonight extra the insider yay the talk yay and wendy williams wendy williams i think has a crush on you you might be her next husband when he isn't appearing on tv you can find him hosting his own show sirius xm's hits one in hollywood or performing his stand-up comedy he even has a very excellent amazon prime comedy special which you can get for free with your amazon prime account it's called Malaysian and i went to the live taping of it and i laughed and i also cried and i hate stand-up comedy chris was like are we really gonna go watch this and he's like we hate
Starting point is 00:13:15 comedy and i was like i know it's michael yo we need to support him and then we went and we loved it it's very very very good and just when he thought he couldn't be any better of a human he's also a family man who posts the most adorable photos of his two-year-old son oliver who i was around for the pregnancy wedding and inception of yes you were not in the same room it's safe to say he puts the conception conception inception did you say okay let me finish your intro it's safe to say he puts the yo it's safe to say he puts the yo in yolo oh please welcome to the show you really crushed it yeah i do you do that long intro for everyone yes yeah yours is extra long i know i like how you kept trying to jump in i know it was done it was done and she kept going
Starting point is 00:14:00 and i appreciate it kelty is like a sister to me i absolutely love kelty we got up really early in the morning for no reason for no reason why did we do that we heard about it oh yeah yeah so no no but was it before you started this when they tried to make us come in at 5 5 30 for no reason at all well we used to go to those morning meetings yes but no the real morning meeting started like 7 7 30 but then i don't want to get into details because people listen but they had us coming in for like a month month and a half at 5 30 yeah for literally no reason no no we would They wanted us in the meetings, but we don't make decisions anyway. So we're just listening.
Starting point is 00:14:37 And we're also on the carpet till like nine at night. So it was just, it was a dark time. I have an important question. Yes. During that time, did you make the fact that you woke up early for work your identity? Because Kelty couldn't meet a single person without telling him she wakes up at 5 a.m. Oh, well, I think you have to. Really?
Starting point is 00:14:56 Yes. You're so run down. Thank you. You know what? You can stay forever. You're my people. Me and Kelty. It was on a series where everybody got there at 5 a.m.
Starting point is 00:15:05 And nobody talked about how early we got up. It was not your identity. Wait, wait. So you were on a show that started at 5 a.m.? Yeah, like call times are 5. And when you were talking to somebody. I really wouldn't. Oh, come on.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Here's the reason why. She's lying. Becca had more interesting things to talk about. True. Thank you, Jeff. Okay, so if somebody said, hey, let's do lunch at like 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock, you wouldn't go, oh, my God, I'm so tired. I woke up at 5 a.m. No, I would go out until 3 a.m. almost every day.
Starting point is 00:15:32 You were also doing a large amount of cocaine. Not at that time. Not then. That was just youth. Maybe it was youth. It was probably youth. I have to tell everybody, if I wake up early, I still do this day. It's like, I woke up at 5.30 this morning.
Starting point is 00:15:45 For years. But you have a child. Aren't you used to it now? I wake up before my kid. There's no excuse. I'll wake up, and when he cries, I'm like, I'm here. I'm waiting for him to wake up. He's probably like, that is crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:57 He's like, Dad, I don't need you. Let me sleep. Trust me, as soon as he sees me, he looks at me, and I feel like he's a cat, because he treats me like he's a cat, and as soon as I walk in the house, he looks at me, and then runs to his mom, like, that dude's here again, like, I swear. That's great. How old is he? He's two.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Oh. Yeah, he just turned two. You're like, like me, please. I know, and I hate it. My wife is so great, and he loves my wife and hates me. I think it goes back and forth. From my friends that have kids, it's like they have a favorite parent, and they bounce back and forth.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Yeah, he'll start hating his mom and love you. I haven't felt that love yet. Oh, what are you doing wrong? Nothing. I'm an amazing father. It's probably because he feels you just standing over him while he's sleeping, waiting for him to wake up. You're so desperate for love. Think of it as your weird energy.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Think of it like it's a girl you were trying to, like, hook up with back in the day. Play hard to get. Oh, play hard. Oh, my son. Like, who are you? Like, I don't know you. Yeah. Get out my house.
Starting point is 00:16:54 You want love? I've got other kids. Spawn of my DNA. Right? I don't know. I don't want you anyways. it's not maybe not don't say that don't say that don't say that i've been chasing after guys that have said that to me so you know that is true it just works but women like that i don't i never
Starting point is 00:17:09 understood why women well women don't like that it's like dumb girls that were idiots that are masochistic yeah no like sometimes celebrities will like i'll see them asking for someone else's number on the carpet and even though i have a wedding ring on i'm still pissed why don't you like me what's wrong with me you always want what you can't have and they're like well you're an idiot so that's because you're a because you're scary because you'll definitely drive by my house at night i want to know what's the most shameless thing uh you've ever seen kelty night do on a carpet embarrassing well we don't so you don't we're not together on the carpets a lot but i've done a lot of shameless embarrassing things i mean i don't can i say anything yes like like
Starting point is 00:17:53 And you won't get offended. Because I love Kelty. She's like, Kelty is the thirstiest person in the world. Oh, really? That's a fact that we start 200 episodes in. I told her this when I saw it. Like, it's like she is so thirsty. It's like she lives in a desert.
Starting point is 00:18:09 You know what I mean? Like, she wants to be famous. Like, so bad. So bad. And it's so funny that she still is. And I've never seen someone that wants to be famous where they will purposely dress in something that somebody else wore so they could be most, most, who wore it best. And it's never her. She's never won.
Starting point is 00:18:31 But she's like, I made it. This is my fame. I am in an Us magazine or whatever magazine it is. You know she has a binder of these, correct? Oh, I know. I would imagine if she ever starts her own podcast, the pictures, it would just be her, like, losing. Actually, I like that idea. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:55 I want a wall in here. Wall of failure. Yes. Wall of failure. Oh, my God. Yes. Let's put all of our failures. You don't have any.
Starting point is 00:19:05 You're right. You beat me in the war better when we shared the same dress. I borrowed her dress. She's like, I already wore it. Good luck. And then I was like, okay. And then you won? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:16 It's the best thing that's ever happened. But that's what I love. Like, she's not, she, you know, when I first mentioned it to her like a long time ago. He was like, you're kind of desperate and it turns people off. I think it was like a pep talk. You were like, you don't have to try so hard. You don't have to try so hard. Like, just be you.
Starting point is 00:19:34 You're good enough. I am being me. Chugging. Just chug. I'm thirsty. I'm thirsty. I'm thirsty. no but i was like me i always used to go into like i what i love about kelty is no matter how
Starting point is 00:19:47 big she gets she's very there's this insecurity that won't stop with her so i would no no just because it's true it's true so i would know me very well i would go into her like we were next door yeah neighbors neighbors that are dressing rooms yeah dressing rooms so i would go over and give her pep talks hey don't worry about it don't get down that was our motivational yeah and i go hey you know like that desperate thing the thirst it doesn't look like yeah it's really tangible everybody's picking up on it i was like i was like you know you don't want to look desperate you know because that's not attractive and she's like okay okay but that's what i like she owns it now i own it it's my brand now it's your brand and everybody
Starting point is 00:20:32 loves it i just had the greatest idea what for your birthday can we hire michael to do a roast so i think we should do a guilty roast i did a roast of michael yo you did he had was it your birthday it was my birthday claire arranged it it was our first year dating yeah tried to do a roast and she didn't know any of my friends so she was trying but she had like really good like comics there was like really good comics fortune fortune they had chris frangela they They had other comedians. But mine, who roasted you the best? My dad.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Oh, yeah. You're right. Your dad was the best. But I was second best. I was second best. I did a great roast. She surprised me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:14 She's an incredible writer. She is. We're writing a book right now, and I was scared to, like, see her essays. And I was sitting on a plane, like, laughing hysterically. There's an untapped gift there. You know what? Kelty. I've never read anything she's written, but if she writes like she talks.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Yeah, and that's what it is. You know, some people don't write like how they actually talk. But the people that write like they talk, that's where the comedy comes in because the thirstiness, the insecurity, the conversations, they all come out on paper. Yeah. They do. Okay, cool. Well, it's been 10 minutes of podcasting. We've only covered one topic, so I think we should move on.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Kelsey's desperation. But the question started, what have I seen her do? Yeah. Everything. everything like shameless yeah shameless shame oh you know what you got kelty was a person that always when we worked in entertainment she would always want the big carpet and even though yep i remember i remember they used to send me to vanity fair but wasn't that the big one oscar's the oscar vanity yeah i hate that carpet do you but i felt like they gave me the first when we
Starting point is 00:22:22 started covering the first two or three and i always felt like kelty wanted that car of course i did yeah like and she was so oh my god you got the vanity fair again oh that's so you know that's amazing i'll be at the elton john one where nobody's gonna show up but whatever whatever well because when we started i was just a contributor oh that's right you were a correspondent and didn't you think you were like the host yes okay yeah can i say this is such a good start yeah yeah yeah okay hold on oh my god this is so crazy oh no go ahead okay this is no i'd like to hear his point okay yeah i'm gonna i'll fact check you okay so we go we have our first meeting of the new show it's the insider and kelty's there i meet kelty for we meet i meet everybody for the
Starting point is 00:23:16 first time and they're telling us about the show and you know they go thea's the host uh kevin frazier is the host and michael you're a correspondent mary mary kitchen mary kitchens of correspondent and kelty you're a contributor yeah and then you just she was like confusion i know this is a podcast i wish you could but i wish it's almost like a computer just glitch yeah short circuit and and she was confused and then i i always remembered that face she made when it's a contributor and finally when we became really close i go what she goes yeah i thought i was the host oh my god like the actual like she thought she went from online to hosting a major network show like in front of everybody
Starting point is 00:24:19 she thought it was kevin frazier into her as the host and we were peons under her so kelty walks in all confident and then when she leaves it's like oh my god this is a true story honestly your facts are pretty much correct so here's what happened here's what happened so i was working online at cbs and i was pulled up to be a correspondent sort of for the show before this relaunch so i was already doing correspondent stuff and then the official contracts came out but like it was really they were launching it well clearly now in hindsight i knew i was very unimportant to this whole thing so they didn't exactly like fast track my contract to like my house with fedex you know what i mean it was like
Starting point is 00:25:05 somewhere way like oh we'll get to her eventually we know she'll come along because she doesn't have any other offers was kind of the situation but i had an old executive friend who worked here and she was like had told my agent like you know kelty's gonna get that job and like somehow in the like world of things the telephone was like that job was like the job the host and so they had built me up like have you guys have you heard anything yeah no everyone's talking about you You're going to get the job. They love you. They're obsessed with you.
Starting point is 00:25:39 And then no one talked to me. So I showed up at this meeting and like I had been filled with, you're the new host of the Insider. And now, 10 years later, it seems insane because I still can't get that job and I've been working here for a decade. But at the time, in some way, it made sense because I was so green. I hope to God our girls listening right now, the ones that are constantly emailing. us about like where do i even begin like how do i get that job it's like you just believe you got it
Starting point is 00:26:15 kelty did oh my god i remember i remember and then it's like the best example of manifesting like the law of attraction kelty's got it i still don't have the job i still don't have it didn't got it no i remember because after that meeting i was like oh well i'm a court i'm they're confused or whatever and then i remember going do you remember when the wardrobe room was that big room of course contributor contributor okay so i went to the wardrobe room and someone the old wardrobe lady had a like clipboard with all the new cast and i was going through the names and i was like at the bottom and i was like what that's who's mary i was so pissed but anyway look at me now still here when you're like auditioning for a play and like junior high and like you're
Starting point is 00:26:59 Like, go to look for your name. Like, I'm Sandy. And you're, like, tree number 15. Yeah. That's exactly what it was like. Kelty, you're a special snowflake. Really? Oh, she is.
Starting point is 00:27:08 That's what's so amazing about, like. She's the greatest. The greatest. I just never in my life, like, my parents screwed me up. Now that you're raising children, like, please, like, set some, like, levels of the way the world works. Oh, 100%. Because my mom was like, you're the best and the prettiest. You can do anything you put your mind to it.
Starting point is 00:27:25 well then i came to hollywood and i was like yeah i can host a naturally signicated 100 million dollar show my first show of course like what like it's hard yeah okay laura spencer see you later like i got you now i know the way things work and i'll never have that job but anyway that is so hilarious and i i didn't know at the time but when we became friends she said yeah you know i thought i was the host of this show and i with a straight face was like and you're like you're a moron that's the best story I've ever heard
Starting point is 00:27:58 you know what I'm so glad you brought that up because I actually forgot it but I've been going through my old journals because we're writing this book and I have seen like all my insaneness when I was like today I snuck on the Oscars red carpet without a credential so I could get my picture
Starting point is 00:28:14 taken and then instantly leave I did that too Kelty Knight and her pictures man i tell you will you want to oh man you know who's worse than me now though who scott at access hollywood is he really oh he's the kelty knight of men oh wow honey honey is wearing a suit scott evans he's wearing a suit he's posing like he's gg hadid i'm like i don't even know this is desperation over here even for me to notice kelty's calling out desperation but you'd be so proud of me i was at an event in new york sorry i was at an event in new york and i looked very beautiful
Starting point is 00:28:53 but i wasn't read like feeling like my i was gonna do the carpet are you crying no i'm just like emotional photographers were like kelty are you doing pictures tonight i was like no not tonight oh very nice you gave him the hand no not tonight they're like great we can use our real camera they were like the plants to make you not feel bad they're like damn who are we gonna test our camera on before the real stars arrive they would always say okay kelsey you need to show up at three o'clock in the afternoon the carpet opens at six and she'd be there okay no but michael this is why i would love if we could work together again because now you'll see the new me i i yes like this year no no listen listen to me this year lauren zima who works for
Starting point is 00:29:47 et online we were at the golden globes or something where she was doing the side position it was the sag awards she was in the side and me and the shower there and i they used to be like you need to be a carpet 130 i'd be like kevin let's go got me on the carpet come on he's like yo yo he's like shows up in his like sweatsuit he's not even dressed here i'm like we gotta go and i got my diamonds on like i'm ready this year lauren was like it's time to go down and i was like girl we don't need to go down for another 45 minutes eat a salad there you go i was like nothing's happened that's my girl right and then at the met gala this year at the mecca this year i knew my look was fierce you know yeah and normally they would be like they'd call us out and they'd be
Starting point is 00:30:22 like okay north one get in position and i would go to my position and then i'd stand there for like an hour waiting and i was like zuri like all the other hosts i was like hang back here with me we'll wait till the end everyone will be set up we'll walk out there solos get our pictures taken then go to our spots like juliana ransack does like a real star and they're like wait are you you sure? And I was like, you're a real star. Watch this. And I did it. And they were like, I think we should go. And I was like, no, trust me. They're not set up yet.
Starting point is 00:30:47 I don't know if I like this version of you. I know. I'm so, like I, I mean, I'm still wildly desperate and instant Googling myself while I'm still on the carpet. Knowing Kelsey when I knew her, this is great. So, because she was so on call. You know, like when somebody's just,
Starting point is 00:31:04 when they give you a set of rules, you should follow it, but you don't have, you're so thirsty to be there. Yes. That you don't look confident. You can be so thirsty you lose your confidence. And people just look at you and go, oh. Like, that's my thing. It's like when I – that's what I was always – I believe the reason why we were next door, I always say, you got to just believe in yourself.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Yeah. Believe in yourself-y. Yeah. Okay. I didn't say that. Believe in yourself. Okay. And then it won't be as thirsty to the outside world because you need to show confidence to look like the star.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Yeah. A star, you need to have that confidence. Yeah. Now I have it. I'm a big star. Okay. How did you go? So I imagine you started in comedy, right?
Starting point is 00:31:48 No. You didn't? No. Look, Kelty knows. No, I started entertainment. Shakespeare. Yeah, I started entertainment news. No, you didn't.
Starting point is 00:31:55 No, where did I start? Radio. That's right. I started radio. Yeah. Your wife. I swear to God, we are husband and wife. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:03 In Miami. No, I started in Texas. Went to Miami. Best friends with Pitbull. Yep. Yeah, I've met Pitbull. Well, so he says. It's like how you're best friends with Ariana Grande.
Starting point is 00:32:13 But I really am. Like, I'm good friends. For radio, I worked for, I got a phone call from E. And they were like, hey, our boss, Ted Harbour at the time, heard you on the radio and are casting people like you. Can you want to do TV? I've never done TV in my life. So you're like, I'll be the host. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Move over, Ryan Seacrest. Am I hosting for Ryan Seacrest? I'm the new Ryan Seacrest is what you're saying. Except half black and Asian. Is this what you want? I'm coming. No, I wasn't like Kelty. I knew I was coming to E to do radio and television.
Starting point is 00:32:51 And I remember E, I was on the Daily 10 first. And they go, I go, I want to be on camera. And they go, if you can book your own interview, first one, to kind of show your worth, we'll put you on. And I was like, all right. So I called Benji Madden when he was dating. Was it Benji? Which one is married to? One of them.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Cameron? No, the other one. Nicole Richie. Nicole Richie. Benji and Nicole, yeah. Benji and Nicole. Said if you can book whoever. So I booked Benji, and it was his first interview about the baby they had.
Starting point is 00:33:19 So that was my first break on television due to the Madden brothers. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so that's how I got started. And then from E went to? Extra. Extra. Then you went to Chelsea. Well, I was already at Chelsea.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Oh. So at E, I did Chelsea and the Kardashians. I was in two seasons of the Kardashians. And then I went to Extra. And then five months at Extra, CBS. They stole you. Yeah, CBS got me. It was a hot commodity.
Starting point is 00:33:45 Yeah, all over the place. And then when did comedy come in? So I was on Chelsea for all seven years of her show. Three years in, everywhere I flew to interview celebrities, people would go, where are you performing tonight? And I was going, I'm not a stand-up comic. In my mind, I was like, I'm not tonight. But I wasn't a stand-up comic. People just thought I was because of association.
Starting point is 00:34:08 So I tried it out, and I loved it, and it just took off. What do you mean tried it out? I went on stage and did. That's it? Yeah, I went on stage in Miami. Like the hardest job ever. Yeah, but it was, I just told stories about my life. You were just so confident.
Starting point is 00:34:23 You're just such a funny speaker. Did you ask any of the comedians like Fortune and all those people? You didn't even ask for pointers? No, and I will say this. Here's my little piece of advice. You're a unicorn. He's got his blinders. No, that's right. And here's what I tell everybody this, and this is a piece of advice for anybody that wants to make it, is when you don't know what you're not supposed to be able to do, it's a lot easier to do it.
Starting point is 00:34:45 You're right. Yeah. Because in comedy, I learned way after the fact, you're supposed to start with three minutes, go to five minutes, go to 10 minutes, go to 15, 20, 25. I started at 15. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to have that much material. So I just told family stories, messed with the crowd, and the owner was like, what? You did 15 minutes? That was your first time? I was like, yeah. And he goes, okay, tomorrow night you're opening for the Wayans Brothers.
Starting point is 00:35:08 So Marlon Wayans and John Wayans was my second time ever performing that open up for them. But I didn't know. It wasn't because I was super good. It's just I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that much time. There is a lot to that. 100%. That's crazy, though. When you don't know what you're not.
Starting point is 00:35:26 When you don't know you're supposed to not be the host of the show, you don't know what you're missing. Don't take that too much to heart, Kelly. You're already living that. I tell you, I love Kelty Nights. If anyone can pull out the outtakes of when we used to host a show together, like the weekend shows, it was so good. I kind of want you guys to have a show on your own. I know. Just you guys.
Starting point is 00:35:51 It would be amazing. Can we tell the story about when we were too good? Oh, my God. Yeah, go for it. You tell it because I've got to remember. I mean, too good. I've always thought I was, like, too good. But not too good.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Okay, no. So there was a time. So you're always with TV, and now we know this because of Lady Gang, like, you're always chasing a rating, right? So it's like you do a little bit of something different, and the rating changes a little bit, and they're like, well, this is the Bible for TV. This is what we should do now.
Starting point is 00:36:18 This is what we should do now. So we had this segment. I can't remember what it was called, but basically it was like. That's right. Where Michael, so they had, instead of just the two hosts, they were like, we're going to do like a group, like four. And we're always trying, when we're on Insider, they're always trying to separate it from Entertainment Tonight. So Entertainment Tonight had a male and female host, and they were like, how can we make it different? Well, maybe all four of them, the two, at the time I was a correspondent then, like Michael Kelty and the two people will sit all together in a four-sum.
Starting point is 00:36:43 And side note, they were also researching the show, too. So they were testing, like when we would do something, they would actually test. Have a focus group. A focus group about it. Go ahead, Kelty. So we made up this segment where we would basically kind of throw these pop, like our allegedly what's happening. Like we'd throw these pop culture things back together and we kind of write this ridiculous
Starting point is 00:37:02 script and I'd be like, and then, and then, and Michael would be like, and then I would come in with the comedy and we'd like add these little like zingers or whatever. And so we did it and it was essentially this split screen of like the Michael and Kelty show, like, and it would go for like three or four minutes, three or four minutes of like these hot topics. And it was so funny. The amount of times we got stopped, like people all of a sudden were in a deep sleep here. They woke up and they were like, oh, my God, we saw you guys are so funny.
Starting point is 00:37:29 And then like two weeks later, they were like, we got it. We got to stop. And they literally said, we got to stop because it looks like you're taking over the show. Yeah, it makes the makes the rest of the show look boring. Oh, I was happy. I was happy. They were honest. And they go, look, we're trying to establish these hosts for the show.
Starting point is 00:37:49 And it looks like you're the host. Finally, Kelty looked like. They're like this contributor. This intern thinks she's the host of the show. But that made us feel good. We always had a great connection where we could do. We do great TV or anything we do together is great. And that just kind of proved it.
Starting point is 00:38:09 And then they squashed. It gets too good because we had so much chemistry together that when you zoomed out to, like, the four people or the other hosts, it was like, yeah, it was kind of bad. Wait, can we, how do you find this? I want to see it. I can find the footage. Could you? I would love to watch it. And then she's right.
Starting point is 00:38:26 I think they just shot it wrong. You know, and it made, because they shouldn't have ever. Gone on just us. Just us. They shouldn't. Were you two standing next to each other? They even tried to get, like, the other hosts, like, they wrote them lines. Oh, then it went to hell.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Who were the other hosts? Well, I don't know. It doesn't matter. It don't matter. We've moved on. We've moved on. But anyway, yeah, I think I, we, I've always felt that there's a time in our lives where our world will come back.
Starting point is 00:38:51 I kind of want to see you guys do like a Kelly and Rip. I was just going to say. Oh my God, it would be so good. Yeah, it would be so good. Or like The View, but with a mixed gender, like male and female. And you guys are, and then they can't have anybody else because it's just. No, they have to get also amazing people. no i think i i mean i i always felt that in today's society here's what's being a male today
Starting point is 00:39:18 like i watch a lot of shows it's like i watched a few i watch uh the talk and i'm like why can't a male be on one of those shows like a male i'm not saying me but like me that no i can talk pop culture with any woman and know more about it than her because i'm used to covering it every single day but then you can put me with a bunch of dudes i'll talk sports all day with you right you know And so I understand the, you know, I don't know. I just feel there's going to be a show that come out with three women and a guy. Yep. And it's going to crush.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Is it the Lady Gang? Is it the Lady Gang? Plus Yo. Plus Yo. Yo, Lady Gang. Yo, Lady Gang. Uh-oh. Okay, I have a question.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I want to take a quick vote. Yeah. Do we want to do Ask the Lady Gang questions or should we do the game? Michael Yo or Michael No? Oh, you really do have me one. Yeah. Or a sweatshirt. Whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:40:06 You want a jacket? Do you have a big one? Yeah, we definitely do. Because I will rock it. You want a sweatshirt? Oh, by the way, I have a shoot tomorrow with E.T. Yeah. How do y'all dress?
Starting point is 00:40:18 It's a movie junket? Yeah. You should wear like a dress shirt. Okay. Like a suit? Not a suit. Can you be cooler than a suit? I mean, I look good in a suit.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Yeah, wear a suit. Okay, I'll do it. Because that's safe. Yeah, yeah. And then I know they're probably going to. And then they can always be like, you can dress down. Yeah. Ever want to add a guy to the gang?
Starting point is 00:40:37 We're ready. Just let me know. I think this is the new show. This is the new show. And then I can talk to y'all about guy problems. Let's interview him for the book. Oh, my God. No, I got to send you that.
Starting point is 00:40:48 It's so smart. It's great. All right, when we come back, we're going to play a game of Michael Yo or Michael No. Oh, so original. Hey, ladies. Funk it. Ask the Lady Gang. All right, Michael Yo or Michael No.
Starting point is 00:41:03 Okay. Spice Girls reunion tour without Victoria Beckham. Michael No. Michael, no. Michael, no. No? No. Not at all.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Because they've got to have all of them, right? It's not a reunion. It's not a reunion unless they're all there. Unless there's five. Yeah, because that's just, yeah. That's like when NSYNC performed with Ariana. Without Justin. Literally nobody.
Starting point is 00:41:26 That's not NSYNC. It's not an NSYNC reunion. Nobody even cares about that. That's just four dudes. That's four dudes. That's four old, molding dudes. That's just four dudes. NSYNC.
Starting point is 00:41:36 NSYNC. Okay. Okay, Wendy Williams divorce, Michael Yeo, Michael Ngo. I'm a Michael Yeo because I'm happy for her that she's getting out of that. And she's dating again. And she is? It's right here today. Didn't they just get a divorce?
Starting point is 00:41:47 Well, it's probably been bad for a long time. Yeah, girl, do your thing, Michael Yeo. Michael Yeo. Michael Yeo, because I'm on that show every month, and the last time I went on, two weeks ago, right after the divorce, and they let Kevin stop coming in. So I walked past his office. It was cleared out. The energy on set was amazing. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Like, everybody was so happy. I went out, met Wendy out on stage. I was like, I love you. She was like, I love you. It was so much love. The vibe was good. And you could tell it was totally different. I met her new manager, and it was just a great, great vibe.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Her new manager is an old-school dude that managed, like, some big talk show hosts back in the day. So it was good to see that base there. Stability, that base. And everybody's so excited that that dude, Kevin, is gone. They hated Kevin. Well, they were like, he just got in the way. Yeah, it's toxic. I mean, look what he did to the, I mean.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Yeah. Megan and Harry named their baby Archie. Michael, no. Michael, no. Michael, no. My wife wanted us to name if we have another kid Archie. No. What?
Starting point is 00:42:58 Well, not now. You definitely can't do it because they're going to think you're naming it after Archie. Well, her grandfather was named Archie or something like that. But does that matter? Yes. Does it really? Would you care if one of your friends named their baby Archie? You would.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Well, first of all. Well, wait. After Harry and Meghan? No, like today. Well, Archie's a stupid name. Well, and now everybody that's obsessed with the royal family is going to name their kid Archie. Yeah, exactly. Well, you know how I feel about the royal family.
Starting point is 00:43:24 How do you feel? I think it's ridiculous. I do, too. We don't give a shit if she keeps talking about them all the time. Well, she has to. She's in entertainment. But she talks about them to us. Oh, like privately?
Starting point is 00:43:34 Yes. That's ridiculous. Well, she was outside the wedding. Very far with binoculars. Just like the correspondent. She was outside the host. She was out of the show. She was watching the host.
Starting point is 00:43:47 She was a mile from the nuptials. So you were like there. I was basically there. No, but I just, anytime you're born into something and you don't have to earn it, and that's celebrated. So like Hollywood? Yeah, yeah. Well, but here's what I will say.
Starting point is 00:44:04 Yes, you get a lot of advantages, but if you're an F-up, you're an F-up and can't make it. Or if you can't act, you can't act. It only can go so far. Yeah. You know what I mean? Royal is forever. But you don't have to do anything being a royal family. You can just sit around and be rich.
Starting point is 00:44:17 Yeah. I don't think they're that rich. And you're just born into that, huh? I don't think they are. Yes, they are. What are you talking about, Kelty Knight? They are rich, but you can't go and spend crazy money. Yes, you can.
Starting point is 00:44:28 You can privately. No, the bar owner beside Kensington Palace told me that Kate's favorite shop is TJ Maxx. It's right across. Because she's trying to stay about the people. Yeah. Like if Kelty was the princess, she'd be going to like Gucci, Louis Vuitton. Yeah, she would. The country would hate you.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Yeah, like they do Meghan. Yeah, she's doing it to make her seem like a commoner. Relatable. Okay. Reboots of Aladdin and 90210 are coming out. Michael Yeo or Michael No? Michael No. I don't care about 90210.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Yeo for Aladdin, No for 90210. Same as Jack. Same. Same. I can't wait. Aladdin's great. Oliver's going to love it. Oh, you saw it?
Starting point is 00:45:03 Yeah, I saw it. Is Will Smith good? He's actually good. Yeah, we were questioning him. The trailer looks like shit, but he's great. Yeah, I heard it's a fun time. Did you cover the movie? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:12 How was Will Smith? I didn't get to interview him. I only got to interview Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. Why not? You're E.T. Kevin went and did Will Smith in London. Oh. Yeah, I'm still a correspondent.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Because he's the host. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Okay, Hayley and Justin Bieber. what's between Michael whatever who cares like I don't have
Starting point is 00:45:32 strong feelings either direction yeah me neither I think it's a Michael Yo I like them together I think it's a Michael Yo
Starting point is 00:45:38 because I love love and whether I do I love love but that's like like young love that's probably not gonna love
Starting point is 00:45:44 but at least at least it's there and they're giving it a shot giving it a shot but my thing is nobody should be able to get married
Starting point is 00:45:52 till they're 30 agreed that needs to be a law Yeah, I agree. Yep. All right. Great. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Michael Yeo. Michael Yeo. Michael Yeo. She seems happy. Yeah. Alice Rodriguez lost six pounds the week of the Met Gala, so you get slimmed down for those photos. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:46:11 Barf. Good. Stupid. I don't even know who that is. A-Rod. Oh, Alice Rodriguez? Alex Rodriguez. Oh, you said, oh, Kelty, you're pronouncing.
Starting point is 00:46:20 Oh, Kelty's pronunciation is wrong? Alice Rodriguez. Alice Rodriguez. He lost six pounds in a week. I hate men because they can do that. But he probably just took a bunch of water pills. So you're a yo or no for that? I'm a no.
Starting point is 00:46:34 I'm a yo. I like A-Rod. Do you really? I like his Instagram husband. I think he's cute with J-Lo, and I think he's the first guy that she's ever dated that is deserving of the Jennifer Lopez poo-tang. Okay. All right. I think he's going to cheat on her.
Starting point is 00:46:47 Sure. Of course. He hasn't already. Sure. Okay. Happy. He is intel, but that's okay. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:46:54 I'm saving it for myself because I'm just going to say I lived in Miami. Oh. Was he in Miami, too? His house in Miami? What are you talking about? He has wife and kids. That's where they, yeah. Oh, they all live in Miami.
Starting point is 00:47:04 They all live in Miami. Can we talk about his house down there? I've never been there. No, but if you're on a boat in Miami, you can't miss it. Oh, really? It's crazy. But he lives further down in, what's it called, Coral Cables. Coral Cables.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Yeah, I stayed in South Beach. Oh, South Beach. Do you know? With Pitbull, Dolly. okay last one happy taylor swift whatever wait what's happy well she was sad she reputation big reputation she was she's a snake and now she's colorful pastel color that song is fucking terrible i don't like her song i don't like the music that she makes when she's happy so so michael i don't really like the music she makes when she's sad either i love her sad music
Starting point is 00:47:48 but it's a michael yes for me michael yes michael i will say i like i'm in between i don't like i'm not a fan of the music but at least she's being like when she came out well like i'm bad like a rep whatever you're not a badass i know that's i was like michael no hell to the no to that this seems more on brand taylor swift like i mean it's 13 year old girl music that older girls like now because it's taylor swift yeah but it's there's no there's no gravitas to it like the truth is jojo siwa could have sang the me song love that is a jojo siwa you know what i mean jojo siwa you know what the bow from dance moms you better get him to this before you come back and work here by any chance huh no okay well do you smoke weed you really appreciate it you got
Starting point is 00:48:39 to get high and watch this girl named jojo siwa okay go home she's a 16 year old she's six feet tall she wears a big material oh my god jojo siwa sammy can you google it please thing that you will ever she just sold out the single center for three nights she's doing what she's doing her big bows you know this girl she's dance mom five nine wait she sold out three nights do you remember that kim kardashian took oh kim kardashian took baby northwest to the 16th birthday party it's a youtube video so what does she do she sings and dances and has songs and she's like kids bop on crack i swear to god there's some weird subliminal mess the way she talks it's dark i know there is it's like she's working with like the new dark art can you get a video of her
Starting point is 00:49:25 talking she's in the dark arts she's like we have to go you're gonna have to google this she is not six feet tall she's five nine she's not so tall and she's 16 and she has a side pony and it's She dresses like she's four. Oh, I do know who that is. It's crazy. But anyway, that song, you'll never find another like me. It could have been JoJo Siwa. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:44 I agree. I think here's the problem with music today. I think all the singers, they all sound the same. They're all replaceable. Yeah. It's the same type of tone. There's no special. Well, unless you're Ariana Grande.
Starting point is 00:49:56 Now, she crushes. She can crush. I mean, that girl is the new voice of our generation. She's the Mariah Carey. She's the Mariah, the Whitney. Yeah. Yeah. She's the voice today.
Starting point is 00:50:04 It's a Michael Yo Ferrari. Yes. She crushes up. Are you tired, Kilty Knight? Well, yeah, we've been working since 5 a.m. We haven't even been working since 5. No, we haven't. 8.
Starting point is 00:50:17 I got up at 7. Okay, and did you work for E.T. today? Yeah, we worked all day. We've literally been working all day, but that's not the story. The story is if you want to follow Michael Yeo, you can follow him on Instagram, at Michael Yeo. You can listen to him every day like I do on Hits 1 in Hollywood, and I've stopped taking pictures of my radio and sending them to you.
Starting point is 00:50:35 I know, that's so sweet, though. I hear you all the time. You're so great. Where are you performing next? I am in San Francisco, May 30th and June 1st. And then two weeks after that, I'm in Orlando. Then I'm taking a break. I've got to write a new hour.
Starting point is 00:50:53 I've written a new 20 minutes. Well, look up JoJo Siwa. Yeah, that's a lot of material there. By the way, this has nothing to do with my comedy, but JoJo Siwa. No, you need to add her into your comedy routine. His comedy is about his wife. It's about my whole family. His family.
Starting point is 00:51:08 So he had a kid. I have a question. And then he's going to start watching JoJo's. Now, I can't wait for that. I need to know. Have you ever used any material that your wife wanted to murder you for using about her? There was one. Like, she doesn't want me to talk about bedroom stuff.
Starting point is 00:51:24 So I just have one joke about like the night of the night of like where we got married and then had sex that night. Oh, and then that. And then I stopped the other stuff.
