Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, the following podcast is a Lady Gang Network and Podcast One production, which means it's going to be awesome. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I'm Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. Hola. I just got called from myself on my phone and now somebody is definitely hacking my life. That's scary.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Getting hacked. I was sitting next to Jack and her phone lit up and it said Jack Vanek. And it's from my number and from my email and from my website. Like everything is in the contact. No. Yeah. I thought it might be your like your dad or something. No, it's from my phone number.
Starting point is 00:00:51 So if anybody's savvy with that, let me know if I'm being hacked and I should delete the boob pictures off my phone. Who has a boob picture on their phone? I mean, actually, I haven't taken, like, a picture of my boobs for probably four years. When you're single, you know, you don't know. A boob, a job, a round. I think it's been a decade since I took a boob photo. I've never taken a boob photo because I have no boobs.
Starting point is 00:01:12 I don't even have good boobs either. But, you know. You have great boobs. They're a little saggy and they're small. My boobs. You know what broke my heart is that recently we have been, like, collecting just intel for our book. and we did we sent out that sex questionnaire to like all the guys and stuff um chris answered it it's like so politically correct because he knew like i was going to read it i wish he would have
Starting point is 00:01:35 done it anonymously i made a mistake i shouldn't like just send this in anonymously from someone else anyway sounds like anyway the answers on the facebook page that girls wrote in was like what's the first thing you notice on a woman and like 99% of them were boobs and i turned to chris and i was like do you really just like does everyone notice boobs i don't have any and he was like i don't No, I don't think that a lot of guys notice. I think the face. Well, when I asked Zach, what's the first thing you notice about a woman? He was like, her face.
Starting point is 00:02:01 You would think a face. I would hope a face. Although, you know, there are those men that even if you don't have anything impressive happening on your chest, their eyes just constantly bounce from your eyeballs to your boobs. Yeah. What is that? I don't know. I feel like it's just like an innate guy thing that they don't even notice they're doing it.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Like, what if I talk to some dude and bounce between his eyes and his crotch? That would be weird. Although sometimes I do that. I'm just going to see what you're working with. If you're in a basketball short, I cannot keep my eyes out. Or a sweat pant. Like a gray sweat pant. If you're not wearing a dance belt under those basketball shorts and it's flopping around for floppers.
Starting point is 00:02:37 What the heck is a dance belt? It's like what male dancers have to wear to keep their penises nice and flush against their body. Is it like a cup? Uh-huh. Kind of. But it's soft. Uh-huh. Soft cup.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Anyway, all right. It's time for... No, I don't know. Well, it's time for Good Week. Yes, it is. Bad Week. Oh, no. Who's first?
Starting point is 00:02:56 I'll go first. I've got a new word for the dictionary. Oh, hell yeah. I'm so excited about it. It is drexting. It came courtesy of the lady gang, and it is when you drunk text someone. I like that. I'll use it in a sentence.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Really? Because we don't know what that is. Last night, I spent most of the night drexting my ex. Drexing kind of sounds like a drug. An STD. Yeah. It's okay. So that's going to be my good week.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Okay. Okay. Bad week. Kelty. What are you reading? She's reading a bad review. Kelty. Her clothes are horrible.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Most of the time her hair looks really bad. She's not ready to be on TV. She needs help from someone that knows what they're doing. I find it hard to watch the show with her on it. Help her. Also, tell her to act more profession. She just isn't. Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point.
Starting point is 00:03:56 First of all, if you can't insult me in a complete sentence, the word is professional. Yeah, get correct grammar, you dum-dum. Then you don't get to do that. It's fucked up. Is this on Twitter? It was a Facebook message. A Facebook message? I know, so cruel.
Starting point is 00:04:11 What's wrong with people? I really do enjoy your, like, shitty comments because they're just so... Aggressive. Aggressive. Like, always so... Detail-oriented. Her hair. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Her left eyebrow. There was one hair that was hideous. It's like people are literally, like, zooming into your picture. The Entertainment Tonight viewers are ruthless. They're ruthless. They are so opinionated. I feel like you should start off every episode with a bad comment. That I get?
Starting point is 00:04:40 Yeah. so many they really bring me joy it's weird it's really gang girls are like oh my god you're perfect i love you i love your dress you wear entertainment and i was like you are hell on my eyes she is the ugliest person to ever want to kill her now burn her at the stake yeah it's amazing okay i'll go all right so my good week i haven't talked about jack your skin looks insane oh it does well i got um prp done like the vampire facial i think that's my that might be what it is and then i also went to go see dr diamond so it's just a combo of both syringes and syringes and blood and needles um my good week and i haven't talked about it but i can see now because i got
Starting point is 00:05:24 lasik and my vision has finally almost corrected itself right because the type of lasik i got what i'm not going to get into it but i actually saw way worse the next day because usually when you hear about people getting lasik they wake up they can see they're blind and then they could see well i woke up and i couldn't see and i cried um yeah good week my bad week um it's a simple one i have the worst ingrown hair on my bikini line that i've ever had in my entire life it is so painful i see it if you want i just want to see what constitutes the worst ingrown hair of all time it actually so i used to get ingrown hairs all the time when before i started pulling your pants down everyone the leggings are coming down leggings are coming underwear
Starting point is 00:06:07 with leggings brave this is hard wait how far into your oh god right there oh that's brutal let me see it let me see it it's like right on my underwear line oh that is bad so it hurts right in your crease did you get a wax no i just like randomly i i think it was because i was on tour and like the showers suck not exfoliating enough no in your vaginal region and i thought i lasered off all my hair but um yeah we don't talk about it enough and grown hairs are so painful and it's just sitting on my underwear line so when i walk it's just like chief chief chief chief chief you know it'd help that not wearing underwear with your leggings take it from an expert i don't like not wearing underwear it's weird i don't either okay there's snail trails just going all over the
Starting point is 00:06:48 place all over okay um so my bad week is that a few months ago i complained that i created a monster with my husband by giving him fancy shower gel yeah actually this is very um this is relevant because joey our guest is the ceo at barry's boot camp they have all orabay products in the showers and so zach was introduced by orabay which is very expensive and bougie then he like went into the lalabo and was buying the body washes and i was like i'm gonna go broke supporting your shower gel habit yeah and the shampoo habit for the man who has no hair that was literally my favorite thing i mean ever you can't imagine i can't even so now here's the worst part he was having a little bit of a breakout and he has great skin like not a wrinkle on his face not a pore on
Starting point is 00:07:41 his face but sometimes he'll get like little ingrown hair like pimple around the beard so i like oh go and get a facial and he me thinking he hates having his face touched so it's got to be a one-time thing it's never gonna oh shit he texted he went to see my girl at kate somerville he texted me after and was like that was the best experience of my life and then kelly who does my facials was like i created a monster and i'm sorry he tried to buy every product here no he did not yes he did she's like i tried to tell him to slow his roll and try some things little by little no let me give you some samples before you spend a thousand dollars on a skincare routine yeah and then he was like oh that thing that uh she used on me the little zapper thing
Starting point is 00:08:23 like she said we could buy one can we buy one it's like 500 bucks what is it the new the zip or whatever it's like a zip it like kills bacteria or something i don't even know i'm not investing you're not supposed to buy those are like you get a special treatment at a facial place you don't do it on yourself and now he's going to go once a month and again i need a side hustle once a month i don't even get a facial once a month i mean i do but i'm a crazy person rude okay so then here's my good week it's a little delayed but they keep rolling in which is exciting so glee had the 10-year anniversary and so everybody's been posting all these things and then everybody on twitter's been tagging me and things and it's just been so crazy and like
Starting point is 00:09:02 amazing to see trip down memory lane a total trip down memory lane like moments that i completely forgot about because i haven't watched the show since well since my first season on the show did you watch it after no i watched season four which was my first season and then i just realized that it was not great for me to watch and then i never watched it hurt your feelings but now five years later you look back and you're like i was so beautiful that ponytail was so taut i know it's like i was so barely needed botox incredible i know but yeah it's been fun so that's it what's coming up joey's here he's going to inspire you i'm gonna tell him about my bad eating you're listening to the lady gang our guest today has dedicated his life to health
Starting point is 00:09:45 and fitness after moving to la to pursue his acting career he stumbled into barry's boot camp and a class that would forever change his life from a customer to an instructor he quickly ran up their corporate ladder ultimately becoming their ceo he can take your bod and make it shine You want an ass like Becca Tobin? Barry's is for you. You may even run into celebs like Kim Kardashian, Carrie Underwood, Adriana Lima, the Beckhams, Jessica Alba, Mandy Moore, and my all-time favorite, Jake Gyllenhaal. And when he isn't making you sweat in the gym, he's keeping things even hotter in the kitchen with his powerhouse hottie husband, Chef John Rollo of Greenleaf Chop Shop. Straight from the Red Room, please welcome to the show, Joey Gonzales.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Yay! Welcome! Hi! Okay, so we're going to, before we get into your life as a CEO entrepreneur, let's talk about how on earth did you ever trust Becca being the godmother of your child? I know, we're always wondering that. This seems like a major mistake. You know what's funny? Misstep.
Starting point is 00:10:44 I actually didn't even put it together until today, but I also have a Jewish godparent. There you go. And so I think it was just in the stars that my child would also have a Jewish godmother. So that's the only reason that makes sense. Yeah, we give great gifts. Jewelry. Okay. jewelry jewelry is she doing is becca doing a good job so far yeah she's doing a fantastic job
Starting point is 00:11:06 she's really a wonderful example for my child really are you sure we're talking about the same person you can barely get that podcast i'll put it this way i'll tell you a story about my daughter and this is i think partly because she's been influenced by becca uh yesterday i mean that that also happened yesterday but we were out to dinner and i was sitting in between her and uh my friend deirdre and i leaned forward and francesca had been like popping her head up to look at the booth behind us and they were probably like oh this cute little girl and so she goes deirdre and she like fingers her to lean forward while i'm leaning forward and she goes can you help me kill someone she seems like she's been influenced by me and that is i am obsessed i love
Starting point is 00:12:02 her she is the most magical person on the planet like not even child just person oh my god she's gonna be a wonderful adult i can't wait to see her she's an adult um so she's doing a good job So how did you guys meet? Were you actors together? No. No. We met at a party. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:20 In L.A. And we just sat next to each other, and we had a couple people in common that we knew, but it was just sort of, like, he sat down. It was a mingling party, but we sat next to each other for, like, two hours and talked. And if you know either of us, that's not, like, who we are. I was going to say, that sounds very odd. It was, like, so many friends. It was weird.
Starting point is 00:12:40 How long ago was it? Sorry about my stomach. Four years ago. Okay. You can hear it. I can literally just hear it. We can't hear it. No, I can't.
Starting point is 00:12:49 There's not a microphone in your belly button. I actually heard it. You did, right? It's a fucking laptop. And Joey's like three feet away from the altar right now. I need John to come over with some green leaf because I'm about to have explosive diarrhea and get back on that green diet. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:13:03 You know what I mean? All right. Let me make a few calls. Okay. Anyway. Okay. So you talked and you were like, wow, we both hate everything. Great.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Actually, it was a much more, like, positive, very out of character for both of us. Yeah. Oh. Yeah. Well, I'm not much of a, I'm not, like, a hater like Becca is. Oh, I guess John is a little, his husband John and I are the hater. I move through the world with a little more optimism, I'd say. Oh, I like that.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Oh, that's nice. Okay. So how, let's talk about your career. So we, last month, I guess, did a beautiful event at Barry's for Children's Hospital. Which, by the way, I was terrified to do because I haven't worked out in, like, two years. And Barry's just... Two years? It's more than that.
Starting point is 00:13:44 It's, like, your whole life. Okay. Jack, we've been doing this podcast for four years, and we've never known you to work out except at that Barry's class. And you looked great on Instagram. Thank you. Yeah, it fits for cute. I was terrified because Barry's is very intimidating for, like, a newbie.
Starting point is 00:13:59 But it was such a good class, and I somehow kept up, and we had such a good time. Yeah, we did. Because you can go at your own pace at Barry's. yeah just like and nobody's staring at you or like yelling at you i really liked my favorite part is when the mirror was in front of me while i was running and i was like so that's but you'll notice when you're a gazelle it was the same thing as the mirror yeah so we always say it's you versus you and berries it's like not it's true there's no instructor on a stage or performance it's just like you versus you that's because that's my problem and like
Starting point is 00:14:32 you know i did go through a year of soul cycling but it was very hard to be in the back row of SoulCycle because you saw those people in front of you that were very good and you were like I can't see myself all I can see is bike four's ass and she's really on the beat and I'm like oh my god I went SoulCycle and John Legend once anyway and he was horrible he had no rhythm but a whole different story okay so talk to me you you took a class you became an instructor and then they were like and you're welcome you're gonna now run it yeah it was that it was that quick and simple and anyone who's listening that's all you have to do okay you have to go to one One thing of anything that you ever want to do
Starting point is 00:15:07 Like if you want to be the Well that's a whole other thing Honestly not that far off Just like I want to be the president And then you're the president I could be looking at the future First female president of the United States Based on who's in office today
Starting point is 00:15:22 She's not in the room I'm not even a citizen Alex and Vicky They probably have a better shot But out of the three of us who would be the best president You would be a good politician Judging on your influence on my daughter I think it would be you
Starting point is 00:15:36 But the thing is Becca would be a You'd be one of the ones that was burying bodies All over the place House of Becca I like it So you're in the class, you're instructing And then you're running Sort of
Starting point is 00:15:53 I mean how quick do you want me to make it? No tell us Give us like the you know Okay so uh i was at a crossroads in my life where i had like stopped acting probably a year prior i tried everything from like massage therapist to um you know real estate agent and just was really lost and i started taking class at barry's became totally obsessed with it was taking like twice a day by the way it took me a year and a half to even go to my first class because i was so scared
Starting point is 00:16:22 really yeah so i get it um and barry asked me to be an instructor wait barry's real yeah oh yeah Yeah. Barry is like the most incredible human being. He's so sweet. He founded Barry's in 1998. So it was the very first boutique fitness concept. Um, so I stumbled at around 2003 and he asked me to be an instructor. And I said, of course I would love to. Um, but I have like much bigger ambitions than that. I would love to be involved in management and I would love to, you know, someday like scale a business. I think it's portable and blah, blah, blah. And so he said, great. I actually think our GM is leaving soon. And so i like didn't miss a beat i quit my job at the time i got what is the worst job i've ever had
Starting point is 00:17:03 working sales at gold's gym where i would like go to runyon with fires and be like you want to write a dim for free oh my god i was that person this was like before there was like running away from you there was like no paid digital it was just like people like me at runyon handing out flyers so that's what i did and then i wore a really bad polo every day i actually kind of look like this um yeah those polo shirts are horrible he's wearing a polo shirt right now um and i had that job for about three months in anticipation of you know this becoming open um and so i really already was like willing i was seeing it and working towards it and visualizing it and that job was going to be mine and so when it came time to interview for the job
Starting point is 00:17:49 He put me in touch with one of the other founders, you know, interviewed, got the position, ran the L.A. business, told them I wanted to, like, invest everything I had and start to scale into other regions. And they just needed time to, like, work together. So I worked for four years as a manager and then finally was, like, ultimatum time. Yeah. We're either going to do this together or I'm going to do it by myself. That's right. So it's up to you. Barry's is about to become Jerry's.
Starting point is 00:18:17 get involved right here i mean i probably would have called it joey's it's a hybrid yeah you gotta it's like a word smudge it's like your so bad jerry's like boot camp is also where i know a guy that could start it my boyfriend jerry well his name his name is jared we would never date someone named jerry we call him jerry it's like the sad nickname but he had opened the sad man's berries so you're like it's jerry's or i get all right yes yeah yeah and um they said great let's do it so i started my first studio was in san diego and then really wanted to open up in new york city um as you know like building out the catbacks all of that is like very expensive in manhattan and so in order to make that happen
Starting point is 00:19:08 And I had to basically leverage everything I owned. At the time, I had a duplex on 6th Street and took out a second mortgage on it and, you know, took out half a million dollars essentially to open that first studio in Chelsea. And then the rest is sort of history from there. I moved around from market to market, opening up areas, sort of like building and cultivating the community. And in 2015, we did our first private equity transaction because until that day, it was privately owned by the four of us. And so they came in and appointed me to CEO. Are you a good boss? I don't know, Vicki.
Starting point is 00:19:44 I'll answer that. I'll answer that. When I started socially hanging out with Joey, Joey and John, first of all, like their house is an open door. Like everybody who's ever worked for Barry's, everyone in the neighborhood, like this crazy eclectic group of people, they're like in and out. And so I quickly got to know a lot of the people who worked for you, like trainers and managers. and the first thing that anybody ever said to me was how much they loved joey and they were choosing to spend their free time with you so it made sense that they loved you and that you're the best boss they've ever had why do you think you're a good boss because i did it all i clean
Starting point is 00:20:20 the toilets i check people in i still do when i'm in the studio i still answer phones um and i think when you have that vantage point you just have real empathy it's not something that you have to pretend you just totally understand it's so interesting because being a ceo you would assume that you had probably been a ceo of all these other things and then this is just a new thing that you ended up taking control over so it is like such an interesting story that you literally came from like the roundup doing it and it's inspiring for everybody listening yeah that's why they call me i'm more of a like founder ceo even though i'm not your standard founder because i discovered the business yeah but in many ways like when i discovered berries it was a very small
Starting point is 00:21:01 like thousand square foot business the footprint was like very very small right um and through the new york city studio that i opened in 2011 um just added so many amenities there's we didn't even have locker rooms and showers there's one toilet in the red room that everybody shared and so if you went you knew it's just like terrible they were like candles burning in the studio at Can't have that cake after cake situation. Cake belly would have been bad at 6 a.m. So we added locker rooms and showers. We added something called the fuel bar.
Starting point is 00:21:33 We added a whole like retail apparel section that you experienced. And so now it's a true, you know, 360 lifestyle brand. So I was able and lucky enough to be a founder of like, you know, 70% of what the business is today. How many locations now? 56. How many are international? We're in 12 countries. so about half our studios are overseas we have some exciting like when lady gang fails well
Starting point is 00:21:58 could we be instructors like even instructors no we would never cut it the training program is super intense like every time that's gone that of anybody that's gone through it and they're like in the midst of it they always talk about how brutal it is yeah no not really i mean i want it to be brutal because i want those people training me to know what they're doing yeah yeah we would never cut it no i can't even barely make it through the one class i did i did do the low impact choice when it went to the weight section and it was like sprint sprint sprint i was like you did have a fun low impact day i think sometimes people will be doing they'll be at like four miles an hour and they'll be moving their legs like they're sprinting and i'll walk
Starting point is 00:22:43 over i'll pull my mic aside and i'll go try walking and then they'll look at me like what do you mean i'll be like just try walking right now and they'll start walking they'll look at me like oh my god i'm going so slow yeah they're just like they're like jumping like oh they're just jumping what are you doing i was doing you know you're making this worse on you right i told you yeah by gazelle she means like a slow motion gazelle it was very slow yeah all right we're going to play a game with you um because we are very confused about health and so we're going to play a game called love it or lose it and this will be where we will all discuss some of the health fads if you will of this generation and you can love it or you can lose it great okay are you
Starting point is 00:23:27 ready this is my like expert opinion oh is that what you're asking me yeah yeah we're also going to give our opinions like i don't i don't like grass so i'm not going to eat grass i'm not doing the pineapple diet because i fucking hate pineapple great don't pull it apart two very weird examples those don't exist let's start with the first one okay keto diet love it or lose it love it that is a high fat no carb diet what do you do when you want to eat some cake oh you don't eat cake joey's willpower with food is something that in my next life i'd like to come back okay are you doing keto like do you do i do keto is not you should you really shouldn't survive on keto it's
Starting point is 00:24:10 something that like i try to do probably like two or three days a week but i definitely eat like higher fat lower carb sort of like paleo version of keto becca keto i did keto one time like actually did it for three weeks when i was in camp trapped in canada doing that movie and my body did get very cute and cute and i wasn't able to work out because my schedule so it was like okay i was shocked at what i could do which is good like yeah yeah and you ate probably less way less because you're you're very full what are you eating tell me what i'm eating for breakfast on the keto diet is bulletproof coffee is that like part of the keto yep so that's like you could do that for breakfast yep yeah so good what am i having for lunch did we skip breakfast
Starting point is 00:24:54 you asked about breakfast no you said i'm having coffee for breakfast well if you do like a bulletproof coffee because it has a ton of eggs you want to get like 10 i mean eggs you can even have like bacon you need to go to air one it has like nothing in it yeah yeah um and then for lunch uh it's hard to to actually do keto you have to have 80 of your calories coming from fat so it's hard for me to just like okay tell you what to eat you'd have to actually have a nutritionist type it out for you but what you're looking for is like the hardest thing for me to get used to was like eating chicken but with the skin and the dark meat because i just like a light white chickens so i had to like recondition my mind to what was like palatable and not okay i
Starting point is 00:25:37 feel like i was eating a lot of avocados yeah avocados are great and then leafy greens are really the vegetable that you should be eating and no cookies no okay no cookies god damn it that's a no for me i have a very controversial position on sugar do you want to hear it yeah yeah i actually think that in a couple of decades the fda will recognize sugar as like the most addictive drug in the world yeah um you're already seeing a lot of empirical evidence scientific evidence that it's causing cancer and all different kinds of diseases and i think that you will have to like be of a certain age to eat sugar like i think it will be like cigarettes you have to be like 18 and over oh i think it's going to be that bad really what about like a
Starting point is 00:26:17 banana no no i'm talking about like refined sugar so it's basically like back in the day when they put cocaine in coca-cola yeah and now we're like i can't believe it so now people will be like i can't believe people used to eat candy when they were pregnant with you know it's like people just didn't know i mean i can see that seeing kids on sugar i do believe how insane i love sugar i know i mean who doesn't so hard for me i've tried to quit like a hundred times yeah she has a problem she's going to golden door next week so we're hoping for a success but we really know how kelty works i went last year and i was like off the sauce off the sugar off the carbs off the diet coke and i lasted like a couple months and then i recently got a nutritionist and i've been
Starting point is 00:27:02 i did like two almost two full months of like clean eating where i actually ate three meals a day which is like shocking for me no diet coke and then in the last week and a half it's gone to shit today this is what i've eaten i had a coffee with coconut creamer this morning starting off good a bar good a diet coke okay a smoothie like a splendid smoothie splendid you know splendid that brand that they'll deliver it to your house oh yes you get the soups from them right i had a splendid smoothie and then i had that cake and a cigarette the cigarette is probably be the best part of the day too the healthiest i had a salad yesterday for lunch joey well she usually just survives off twix and like uh yeah or like the snickers and uh one time i was on set for tv and
Starting point is 00:27:50 someone looked at me and they're like are you eating that right now it was like 6 45 in the morning i was eating a snickers but then she won't eat a meal i'm so disgusting i hate myself i'm so glad you guys maybe this will inspire you no i am inspired because he's sitting here and has like a six-pack just sitting i think you have like what three percent body fat no a lot more than that he's like i have four so much more love it or lose it intermittent fasting love it i've been doing it for two years so what hours 16 hours when you eat 12 to 8 no no so that's time unrestricted feeding there's a difference i do intermittent fasting which means like i put 16 hours between my last meal and my first meal of the day okay so it's not always the same time that
Starting point is 00:28:33 i feed in right are you worried about because you have a daughter right i do are you worried about like how your weird eating is gonna affect her uh it'd be too late for that okay but also she's aware like with the sugar yeah she'll be like oh i want a cupcake and i'll be like okay but what is it and she's like sugar and it's probably gonna give me cancer and then she'll just eat it oh my She's going to be that kid at school. She's eyes wide open. She gets to eat it. We don't keep things from her, but we educate her.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Oh, so she gets to eat it, and then she's like, I'm going to get sick and die. But who can I kill with me? Who am I bringing down? Will you help me murder someone? I will say that Joey and John are a great balance because John is a chef. And he eats everything. He's not as restrictive as you are. and he has a very like super healthy relationship with food and so not that yours is unhealthy so
Starting point is 00:29:25 he'll eat like extreme he'll eat shitty foods like he'll have a cake i mean he's not like a junk food eater but he's like not afraid of a carb he's not afraid of a cheese plate like sure you know and like your business is fitness so it makes sense and his is food so i think that balance is like perfect for children and i also like i definitely will have like cake with yeah i'm not like never 100 if i started eating healthy could i still have cheese yeah cheese is fine on keto i love cheese do keto i don't eat meat do you does cheese hurt your stomach yes i think that might be a you thing this isn't about you okay okay wait okay next love it or lose it paleo diet love it i don't really know what any of these are unprocessed
Starting point is 00:30:12 food yeah it's like anything like caveman yeah yeah oh yeah so like it's how we should be eating yeah i love an almond can we talk about our whole 30 experience whole 30 so you did whole 30 okay so joey was turning 40 and he was like we're gonna do the whole month of november no i mean we're gonna do whole 30 the month of november you did really well i am telling you the only time that i didn't cheat on a diet and it was no booze which was really challenging that's the longest i've gone i think without drinking since i was probably 18 oh god yeah yeah for sure i've definitely never gone that long but i will tell you after like day seven i looked in the mirror in traffic and i was like oh my god my skin is glowing i am the most beautiful person on the
Starting point is 00:31:00 planet yeah and then i had a martini 30 days later and they're like god alcohol rules yeah no it was actually kind of amazing yeah it was a good challenge too because that is like you have to see if there's there's sugar hidden in everything yeah and so it was like part of learning and educating yourself that's like the best reset diet like if you're someone out there who's super frustrated that you can't break bad habits that you keep making bad decisions Whole30 is for you.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Should we do a Lady Gang Whole30? I think the reason you did so well on it is because we had groups. And you would send recipes. Or suicidal thoughts. Or that. Or like, f*** you Joey.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Why did you do this to me? Can't we just have one glass of wine? Joey, in my boojo, I did like give myself a gold star for every meal i ate that was healthy for like two months and then i fell off i'll do the 30 day though you will yeah jack will do it but she'll still drink wait i'll do it with drinking can we do the whole 30 and when the girls successfully prove to us that they've done 30 days can one of them have a free berries class no of course how are they gonna prove i know i don't trust no no no kind of give it okay we'll figure it out with you and then
Starting point is 00:32:19 will announce it because there needs to be something at the end like an initiative purse no well they can buy themselves a purse we can't just by be buying people purses we're not gonna be able to tell who are we talking about she's talking about the like listeners like our lady gang the lady who are we talking about but our fans i didn't i thought you were talking about the people i did too for a minute so we're talking about if any of your listeners actually like if we do like a joint whole 30s but then if i did that as a listener i'd be like sure i did it Where's my free classes? If you did that as a listener, all you would need to do is look at yourself naked and be like, you're welcome.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Yeah. Send us news. Okay. Last one before you help us fix our lives. The Mediterranean diet. A diet that is found in the Mediterranean. Greece, Italy, Spain, where Becca's going on vacation. Tell her there's a lot of tapas.
Starting point is 00:33:06 That was actually voted the most popular diet for Consumer Reports. Yeah, the Mediterranean, one of the most popular successful diets ever, and I've never done it. but it sounds great it's like fish hummus salad yeah yeah so it's just mediterranean greek yogurt lean meat no i don't know what it is probably it actually is greek it feels like something that john stamos would do like because he's very greek so greek okay love it or lose it becca i love hummus it's a lose leave it love it love it for me i love the mediterranean diet let's do it yeah i am greek so you know but i get so sick of that why are you looking at me like that you're not greek my mom is 100% greek percent greek why would i lie about that no it just
Starting point is 00:33:57 seemed weird hi this is jack nice to meet her have you always been greek yes have we ever talked about this before i don't know no we yes you guys are shaming me like i'm ancestry dna right here I mean, you're not wrong. You're shaming me like. That cake has sent you somewhere scary. I don't know. You're shaming me like I would lie about being Greek. I don't know your ancestry.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Barbara, I'm taking over. Barbara Walters. Okay. This is so hot. When we come back, you're going to be answering questions from our Lady Gangers. Hey, ladies. Funky. Ask the Lady Gang.
Starting point is 00:34:33 And we're back. Okay. So the last part of our podcast, we have our listeners sending questions. We try to give them good advice. These are probably health-related questions, I'm assuming. Mm-hmm. Okay. our first question comes from anonymous anonymous says i'm currently a graduate student in milwaukee
Starting point is 00:34:48 wisconsin and i love listening to your podcast while i work out aka die on the treadmill at my school's gym there is a guy that goes at the same time every day i happen to maneuver my gym schedule to go at the same time as the hot gym boy only problem is that i never look good when i go to the gym girl i understand so how can i look better while going to the gym and what is the time front time frame of waiting for him to introduce himself or for me to grow a pair and introduce myself is there a cute pickup line i can use please help this graduate student grow a pair do you have any berries marriages yet his own oh yeah my oh yeah we have a lot we have a bunch we also have people who have like use the red room for their engagement moment oh that's cute our fuel bar has been a
Starting point is 00:35:31 presence at people's weddings oh my god does anybody have like a berry themed wedding i mean they'll have like berries go to like the caribbean and do like a pop-up and that kind of stuff that's cute so what what would you as you see probably a lot of people working out hitting on each other hitting on each other what should this girl do so i think the number one thing in my opinion is i can't stand when people work out in awful clothes so like get it get it together like get some like ultra core leggings like just get your look up right we have a great berries is launching a new shopify site like this month really and we have you know our clothing is just like the best yeah but the shopify is gonna be it's gonna be major it's a great site so whether it's with us
Starting point is 00:36:15 or someone else just get some good clothes clean yourself up like get a cute little matching leggings sports bra situation that goes for men too by the way like you know the guys that come in their like fraternity college shirt no yeah and it's like a it's just come on no yeah yeah Yeah, if that were you, you'd meet a hot guy. Yeah. So I would, like, clean it up. And then also, on the flip side, don't, like, overdo it. You don't want makeup or, like, just put your hair back in a ponytail, be confident, have
Starting point is 00:36:42 a nice little outfit on, walk up, and introduce yourself. I think the best part, if you do meet somebody at the gym, like, I look my worst at the gym because I would never wear makeup. I don't know what I'm doing. So at least if you meet at the gym, then when you go on a date and you can get ready, you look amazing, and the guy will be like, holy shit, this girl cleans up great. a great way to meet someone yeah you're like you're this is my worst and now i don't have to be scared of like not being in makeup around you come here often is that your pickup line
Starting point is 00:37:09 you're gonna use i've never picked up anyone at the gym remember you used to hit on the guy that would work out in jeans jeans man at the cbs gym jeans man is somebody knocking yeah there was a guy there's a gym here at joe's gym and there's a guy that came in was so hot for many years he was my fantasy and he worked out in a jean a bedazzled jean then someone got rid of the bedazzled jean he just had a tight jean and then a dark denim jean and then a cargo pant and then a short and then i found out he was on the bachelor and then i learned his name and started talking to him and i was disinterested wait he was on the bachelor i'm also married so dazzled jean like a like an ed hardy jean true religion with like like a pop dazzled bum got it yeah
Starting point is 00:37:50 okay all right next question yeah also anonymous my husband has gained 40 pounds and it's a major turnoff i've talked with him about eating better and working out and going to the gym with me i even meal prep for him but he buys snacks at work two questions how do i get him to lose weight and what do i do i want to be intimate but all i can think about is his growing gut divorce only you it's over hey now hey now um man that's hard because she's done everything she's supposed to do like you're supposed to bring them with you yeah i mean what would you do well i made sure i married someone with a he would never crazy metabolism and that was vain enough to never let himself go yeah um
Starting point is 00:38:43 But I think you got to give an, you got to give an ultimatum. Yeah. Yeah. And also make it less about how he looks and more about like wanting him to be alive. Yeah. Because it's like the health thing. And I think also like it might be, there might be something deeper to it. So maybe go try to dive into that.
Starting point is 00:39:02 Like, because it might just not be because he's lazy. And if there's a different way to motivate him or to make him happier, then you could probably not have to divorce him. though like the public service announcement your guts disgusting like there's something about men like women we get puffy everywhere like top to bottom it's puff but like when a man gets out of shape it's like that it's the beer gut it's the beer gut and it's so unattractive because right directly underneath that is your penis like a big butt or a big thigh or like whatever it's like it's just i don't know there's something it's like god is fair like it's so hard to be a lady
Starting point is 00:39:43 but men overweight men i think it's like a no this is a real common problem in this country like i hear this a lot from women from women yeah and i think being clear and direct too goes a long way just saying like yeah i am fearful that this is not going to end good place yeah because i'm not attracted to you anymore i need to like get this but if a man came to a woman and said that that's fine if a woman didn't get her shit together like if i were to gain a ton of weight and show no interest in losing it i would expect zach to be honest enough with me to be like i'm not attracted to you like this i didn't marry this person i think it's situational i am not a chubby chaser it's i think it's situational because it's
Starting point is 00:40:26 like it's one if like if you're trying because it's there's also a lot of people out there that are going to the gym they're eating right and they still just can't lose it yeah but if like you're sitting on the couch playing video games for 18 hours a day this is a lifestyle you know if you're a sloth you know if you're a sloth yeah also i hate when people make the excuse that it's too expensive because like go run it's free and we spend money on the dumbest things even like when people make comments about like boutique fitness i'm sure you hear it all the time And I'm like, that and therapy, like your body and your mental health, to me, that's like two pretty valuable things that you can't get back if they go.
Starting point is 00:41:06 But you can also sign up for a gym for $20 a month. Yeah. Like it doesn't have to be a Barry's class. You can go run outside for free. Yeah. Watch YouTube and do it at home. Yeah. They have like all those online classes.
Starting point is 00:41:17 All right. Well, the only thing that will get me in shape is Barry's because I can't self-motivate. Self-motivating is hard. Very difficult. Okay. Last question is from Business Bitch. Right now, I've been at what I thought would be my dream job for a year, but now I'm starting to doubt that I'm really happy with where I am. I'm having trouble identifying if it's the company or the actual career choice.
Starting point is 00:41:37 My doubt makes me worried because I feel like my whole life has been me feeling unsure about my future and being interested in too many different things. I went to grad school for this job and loved the topic every step of the way. Now that I feel unsure, how can I trust my instincts if I felt so strongly about finding my place in the working world in the first place? and what am I going to do? What am I going to do? Am I going to change careers forever and never excel at one thing? Obviously things can't be perfect all the time.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Basically, I think that this girl has been going to school for this job and thought it was going to be what she wanted to do. And she's having all these unsure feelings about. Well, look at Joey. He changed his job 500 times and now he's super successful and happy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:17 And I don't think what I'm hearing is somebody who feels like she's made mistakes. Yeah. And I don't think you make mistakes. You just learn from all of the decisions that you make that maybe weren't right, but they get you to where you need to be. So I would just follow your gut and your heart, and that would never lead you to the right way. Yeah, and I think – go ahead. Go.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Well, I'll go. I think – Oh, my God. That in itself is the epitome of our fucking podcast. Well, I'm waiting for you idiots to get your shit together. I'll just jump in. I'm never letting you have cake before a podcast. Am I that bad?
Starting point is 00:42:52 I'm joyous. I like the cake right now that you're on. Yeah. Sometimes she just gets on one. I'm just going to say that I think workplace culture is very important. It sounds like you're a great boss. And so you getting behind and when it's busy answering a phone, like there's dictatorships and then there's good bosses. And I think having a great boss and a great workplace culture can change the game.
Starting point is 00:43:15 I've worked here for almost a decade and I've been through five or six different bosses and each boss brought their own workplace culture. And I was doing the same job mostly the whole time and it was more or less enjoyable by the culture created. So maybe it isn't necessarily, you went to school, you got this job, maybe it's not even the actual career path you've chosen. Maybe it's just this place that you're working and maybe there's a different place with a different culture that would make you happier. Well, and like watching, unlike this culture where they harass, um, I mean, when I look
Starting point is 00:43:44 at people like Joey, I think that also with having happy employees, there's like a sense of empowerment that you have with everybody who works for you. And that makes a huge difference. Like I know in any job that I've ever done, if I feel empowered to make bold choices and supported or empowered to maybe like within the company, how can I be happier? Like, I feel like you're constantly checking in on people's happiness levels at work, which most bosses don't do. So that's like, maybe it's just like Kelty said, finding a new place to work, like a new environment, shake it up it might not be what you're actually doing day to day right are you gonna empower us to like hang it up based on what we've seen here today i'm so glad joey's a friend because this
Starting point is 00:44:31 could be i've gone so badly oh my god i think it's been awesome he was awesome i'm so they're being so mean to me but what they don't realize is i'm on too much of a sugar high to even feel it's not even yeah it's like she's like this is the best day of my life my favorite part You're really inspiring. I'll go. Incredible. Like, literally nothing could describe us more. Can you not murder someone sitting to your left?
Starting point is 00:45:00 Well, Joey, you're a dream. We can't wait to come back to Barry's and get our asses kicked. Me too. You have to come to my class. Joey's the greatest teacher there, obviously. He should be. But also plays the best music. Oh, that's so important.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Hands down. That's the most important. Best music. You'll always have like a Kelly Clarkson in there. Girl, inspiring girl power. There's always like an empowering ballad that like turns into something upbeat and you're like running and staring at yourself in the mirror feeling invincible. I mean, she loves me, so.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Yeah. No, but I, it's the best class ever. I mean, everyone will agree. I also sing a lot, which is not. He does sing a lot. Can you sing? Yeah, he can sing. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:45:40 But his classes sell out like immediately. Can you get us in? Which studio do you do it at? Can you even get Jack in? Yeah. Saturday mornings. Yeah, the Venice Saturday mornings is really good. How early?
Starting point is 00:45:51 And then you go eat at Greenleaf. It's a whole Gonzalo extravaganza. As long as I can have a mimosa after class. That's all John, his husband. That's what we do at Greenleaf. Oh my God, that sounds amazing. There's a whole Bloody Mary bar. It's delicious.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Breakfast nachos. It's like a thing. It's a thing. There's even a sugar donut sometimes involved. No, I'm cut. I have four days left of sugar. And then next time I see you, I'm going to be so clean. You'll be like, I don't even know you.
