Starting point is 00:00:00 So I'm sure you already know, but I froze my eggs last year. Also, if you have HSA or FSA, you can use those dollars on Modern Fertility. So right now, Modern Fertility is offering our listeners $20 off the test when you go to ModernFertility.com slash Lady Gang. That means your test will cost $139 instead of the hundreds or thousands it could cost
Starting point is 00:00:51 at the doctor's office. Get $20 off your fertility test when you go to ModernFertility.com slash Lady Gang. That's ModernFertility.com slash Lady Gang. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Things are about to change around here. Each week, we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. Day, good day. Good day, sir. Good day.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Kelty, so are we going to keep these? Do we want to talk about your murder glasses? Sure. Your serial killer glasses, Jeffrey Dahmer chic. Okay. I'm part of a conspiracy theory. So you know how everyone used to have glasses and then everyone got LASIK and so no one needs glasses anymore? I feel like the glasses manufacturers have made up blue light glasses. I mean, do they work? Do we need them? But then I started wearing them when I was like on the computer eight hours a day and I didn't get a headache and I didn't have that like soreness in my brain. And I was like, do they actually work? Like have I needed blue light glasses? So I don't know either way. This is what was available to me. So if you need
Starting point is 00:02:05 someone murdered or buried, I'm in it for you. I'm here. Anyways, here's the thing. I'm wearing my hair down today. So I look at least a little better when it's pulled back in a bun. It is like I'm a handsome fella. Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty sure when you were on Instagram with those glasses that I was very disturbed by, I think your hair was back. It's a whole new look. It's a different look. Yeah. It's weird that I'm like, I like them so much that I might order them. I'm an influencer. Allow me to influence you. Okay. Can we get, I have something so important to tell you guys. Okay. All right. Well, it's time for. Good week. Yes, it is. Bad week. Oh no. Kelty, please. By all means. This is shocking to me. Bad week. Had the kids over, my niece and
Starting point is 00:02:54 nephew, and we're driving them home. And one of the cool things about Chris's Tesla is that it has the screen and there's all these weird things that you can do with the screen, like dog mode and put a fireplace and do a whoopee cushion or whatever. So I figured out that there's karaoke in a Tesla. What a waste of technology. The karaoke? All of it. For the kids. Oh my God. A fireplace? It's for when you're making out and it's like make out mode and it goes. See, I love all those little fun Easter eggs. Stupid. So anyway, we're driving them home and I'm like, oh wait, there's karaoke. So we put Disney karaoke on and I'm like, okay. And they're like, we want to sing how far I'll go. I want to sing Frozen. So we're singing, singing, singing.
Starting point is 00:03:36 And then I was like, how about this? Hakuna Matata. What's that? What? Oh no. They just did a Lion King. The Lion King. We've never seen the Lion King to which I'm like, how the have you seen every, we watch bed knobs and broomsticks from 1977 and you know, every word to bed knobs and broomsticks and you haven't seen. So I text my brother-in-law and I'm like, yo, your kids don't know hakuna matata what the and he's like i've never seen the lion king either whoa so this is a generational problem a family issue wow i was gonna say maybe like are they like a new age disney watcher that they only watch the new movies but it's like a lion king problem this is a lion king problem they've seen lots of old disney movies is a lion king too scary for a four-year-old
Starting point is 00:04:25 anyway oh you know what it is it's but the car is pretty scary no and it's when um somebody dies yeah but nobody dies in beauty and the beast that when simba's dad dies it's like the saddest moment of disney history wait does her dad die in beauty and the beast like there's always a track memorable enough oh i don't know it's sad but like everybody has to watch the lion king i just can't wait to be king is the best song ever jtt he crushed that maybe oh god it's a great wait by the way i just can't wait to be king is an excellent karaoke song just in case that you do want to bring that back up in the car that is a great one it's a duet it's great okay i don't have to have them over again and watch lion king okay good week so chris we never talk about dreams
Starting point is 00:05:12 because in general no thank you but the other day chris was reciting a dream to me which he never does. And he was like, Hey, I was like, just had this crazy dream last night. Like I was trying to cheat on you with Taylor Swift. So, so many things here that are good. A, I often have dreams where I'm trying to cheat on Chris. Every night I have those dreams. I have been guilty about this for years. With exes, with strangers, with people, celebrities, like I've done this with you a lot. And I was like, Oh God, what is it inside of me that wants to cheat on Chris? I'm such a bad person so when he told me he was trying to cheat on me with taylor swift i was like yeah then on top of that i was like oh my god you know sometimes i see chris scrolling through instagram and i was
Starting point is 00:05:58 like do you wish you were someone that had like big boobs and like was more like sexually looking whatever if if taylor swift is the girl you want to cheat on me with i am with the right man like a boring ass yeah she's kind of like your vibe a spongebob square pants shaped woman with little to no sexual energy yeah yeah definitely she's definitely i mean that would love like we're the same same we love a nerdy craft you know like if his if his celebrity there's this like post going around in our facebook group which is like like ask your partner their celeb crush and then post a picture of you and see if you resemble each other that would be like a resemblance yeah like a bad haircut for most of your life like I am down you're so lucky you're so lucky Zach's like
Starting point is 00:06:49 anytime someone asks him who he like finds attractive in the celebrity world he's like I mean Cara Delevingne I'm like oh great that's wonderful bro because I couldn't be further from Cara goddamn Delevingne. Jared is Kate Beckinsale. Ooh, that's a good one. That's like the least Jack Van Dyke of all time. I know. But she's like such a like, she's a good, like you understand the choice.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Like she's like universally hot. Like she's universally hot. She's not some like weird curveball of a choice. Right. It's true. And she does like younger men, so. I'm sure she'll be coming for Jared. Listen, she dated Pete Davidson.
Starting point is 00:07:29 That is true. Well, she likes weird guys. Um, is, is Taylor Swift his celebrity crush or it was just like a random, I did not ask him, but I just feel like it's freed me to now be like, Oh my God, I had the craziest dream too. No, no, we're not sharing. This is not an open forum now. No. Like every night I'm like, guess who I dreamed I cheated on you. Oh my God. That's my life. Okay. I'm going to go. And then I'm like actually cheating. And I'm like, am I awake? I'm sorry. My bad. What is reality? What is existence? Am I, am I really, am I really dreaming when I'm dreaming or when I'm awake? All melding into one. You just do some DMT and then it's all one thing. Okay. I'm going to go. Okay. So my good week is there's been so much
Starting point is 00:08:15 bullshit that's happened in the past year with just everything going on in life. But I have found through staying at home, I found one joy in the past year and that one joy, one whole friendship with us. A single joy. No, not that. So I have a balcony and I'm overlooking the marina. So I'm like on the water. And then there's a street that the cars can drive through around my apartment complex. And I noticed from sitting out on my balcony every afternoon, cause there's nothing else to do at four 45, every single day, this little old man jogs around my apartment. And every day he has to be 90 years old. I'm not kidding. He can barely move. So by jog, I mean, he like shuffles really slowly every day he wears his little socks and he wears sandals like a slide
Starting point is 00:09:02 and then he has full-on gloves mask hat fully covered and it's just the cutest thing in the world because he is trucking on every single day at 4 45 on the dot he passes my apartment in a slide in a sock i like a man with a schedule it is i don't understand the outfit maybe it just like works for his wow the way his body is that it is his little tiny shuffle because he can kind of like he's so he's so cute he has bunions becca it's true maybe you should start giving him like a power drink as he passes or at least like hold on a little tiny sippy cup of water he's so cute and like when jared's not here i'll like send him a picture i'm like look i found her guy because he is it's he's very scheduled you would like him guilty it's gonna be so sad the day that
Starting point is 00:09:47 doesn't come don't look becca always do becca it's honestly and like by the by the look of him it's probably not going to be too far from okay you know anyways so so my bad week is okay so i just death is a part of living it is it's all it's all one um so my bad week is i what was a good thing i went to kelsey's house one day and i discovered a life hack that she does when she burns a candle she puts a little piece of palo santo on top of the candle and it gives a nice like woodsy musky aroma and my bad week is the first time that i tried to do it i did not realize that the candle needs to be very low or else you will put the palo santo on the candle go out of the room and then come back into the room and the palo santo will be completely on fire idiot so i
Starting point is 00:10:41 almost started a fire in my apartment that i had to put out with a bucket of water holy shit well not a bucket i like my bowl like my like decorative bowl that i have on in my apartment i was like watch and also i had seen a few girls in our facebook group also try the life hack and have the same response so just fyi if you try this the candle has to be like almost out because the palo santo doesn't need to be on fire it just needs to have like the heat heat to cook it and As an expert influencer, I could let you know that if your candle's brand new, you can put the Palo Santo like right on the side, like just sitting right on the edge of the circle and it will just get enough of the wood heated that it will smell.
Starting point is 00:11:22 You're welcome. Earth, you're welcome for my greatness. Oh, Jesus. Wow. I just did that. Great. Thanks. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I'm going to start with my bad week. So when you're in a new place, you always like go on and see where you can get a mani pedi. like you google like nail salons nearby great nail salons clean nail salons blah blah so i'm like looking up i'm like i need a mani pedi and so i find this one place and i'm like something occurs to me every freaking time i do this there's always the like uploaded pictures from patrons on yelp and i'm always like accosted with the ugliest freaking foot oh yeah a woman who's just had like a turquoise pedicure and like this fucking ugly foot and like a fucking anklet or a toe ring.
Starting point is 00:12:10 And I'm like, who is confident enough to post a picture, a closeup picture of their fucking foot on the internet? And then I realized, oh my God, I think that feet are like babies. People don't know when their own feet are ugly and they don't know when they shouldn't post fucking pictures of them. It is so weird. And I just was scrolling and I'm like, this could be the nicest nail salon on the block, but this ugly foot, it's so weird. Why do people do this? I don't think anybody should be posting pictures of their feet on the internet unless they're getting paid for the pictures by some foot fetish website. Like I don't want to see your feet. There needs to be a foot disclaimer on Yelp. Like no. And on top of that PSA, I don't think anyone should be getting a
Starting point is 00:12:55 turquoise manicure. Never. That's her. That is not a color that we need. You know, like, I think everybody has a visual in their head right now of what that foot looks like. Yes. Like, you know, there's like a macaroni toe. Like your baby toenail is like kind of like an high arching, like rainbow shape. The baby toenail is barely there. It looks like a cashew. Yeah. it's true like i don't want to see it i'm sick of it i think we should start a petition it's just a pedicure across your toe though it's so gross we need to stop talking about this i'm getting nauseous this is how i feel when you talk about booger licking okay sorry did you get a manicure no i couldn't i was like this is so upsetting it could be the chicest place ever
Starting point is 00:13:45 and this foot. Okay. Anyways, there should be like a board that you can send your baby pictures to and be like, is this a cute picture of my kid? Or like, is this a good picture of my foot? Okay. Rate my foot. Here's my good week. You guys, I am sort of a VIP in the world of supermarket sweep, as you know. Oh yeah. You got a sweatshirt, huh? They sent me a sweatshirt and it's my favorite. I've been wearing it for months now. And I'm in Canada for the 800th time, however many times I'm going to have to say that, but we don't have the same channels on TV. So I'm like, you know, one of these days I'm going to watch the new supermarket sweep, but like, I'm trying to figure out how to watch it and blah, blah, blah. And like, to be
Starting point is 00:14:29 quite honest, like I'm not like spending that much energy trying to figure out how to watch it. But I was laying in bed. I took a hit off of the little joint that I had delivered. Cause Canada, it again. Great weed. Two puffs off the joint. Cause I was like, I don't know, do I need it tonight? I think I'm gonna be able to sleep. I'm like, no, just do it. Something inside of me was like, you need to. And then I get in bed and I turn on TV and there's a channel in Canada that was playing supermarket sweet. The new one or old one? The new one. And I was like, oh my God, like the universe knew it was time. You needed it. I needed it. I needed to watch it stoned. And you guys, it is, it does not disappoint. It's pretty wild. I watched it. Cause I think
Starting point is 00:15:13 it's on after the bachelorette. I watched it. It is intense when you're sober. So I can't imagine how crazy it was. If you're right. When you're, I was freaked out genuinely. Cause there was like this one pairing, they were mommy bloggers and they were in like tool rainbow skirts, like dress like kids, like grown women. And they were like so cute. And they were, when they were being introduced and they were doing all the like trivia stuff at their, their little like desk thing. And I was like, Oh, they're cute. They're harmless. And then it's time to sweep the supermarket with a mom blogger. They know where everything is. The intensity of this one woman was so crazy. I was, I was like, I know I'm stoned, but this is
Starting point is 00:15:55 the most intense energy I've seen on television like ever. And that show is just the bar is high already. The intensity is high. Oh yeah. It's great. So they did do a good job. I like it. Yep. And we just want to like take a moment and shout out our lady gang lawyer, Kellen Conrad is the OG. She was on supermarket suite, the original and won not only her episode, but then like the super finals week. She's like, she trained in the fucking Kroger's how to palm chickens. And she's a lawyer and it's like, get a woman who can do both. You know what I mean? she's an icon every time i talk about carolyn and i'm like hey i have a good lawyer for you and they're like oh yeah who she repped and i was like it doesn't matter she's right she can palm
Starting point is 00:16:37 a chicken it's all that matters anyway i just want them to do like a d-list celebrity version of supermarket sweet so we can go on can you imagine she said i but you said we well one of us can't go jack it's not a trio show oh shit you're right who do you think would be better at supermarkets. We meet a thousand percent Kelty after the manic energy of the mommy blogger. I was like, of course, Kelty would grow. Becca, Becca and I together would be way too low energy. They would be like, Oh, look, ham. Those are my favorite chips. I am surprisingly athletic that I might be pretty nimble in that supermarket. You'd be nimble, but you wouldn't be able to stay focused on getting to the meats, which are worth. She wouldn't care either by the chips.
Starting point is 00:17:24 she wouldn't care. I don't know. Get me on there. I might surprise you. Okay. Well, we're going to have to figure it out. They're going to ask. I know it. I can feel it in my bones. We should do a run through and see who I'm competitive. I mean, I could, I am working on like a sister network with ABC. It's not that crazy to consider. Be like, don't worry about putting me on Letterman. Um, I'd like to be on Supermarket Sweep. Like, how would you like to promote this series? Um, Supermarket Sweep. I'm sorry. It's the Kelly Clarkson show. You said, No, thank you. I would like to go on Supermarket Sweep.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Supermarket Sweep only. I don't know. Exactly. Okay. Well, let's go. Who's coming up? Let's get this show on the go. I am so honored and excited to introduce you to this month's Black-owned business.

Starting point is 00:22:10 Her best friend is who we all want to have as a best friend, Casey Wilson, and these BFFs have taken their talents and friendship to the next level, writing and starring in blockbuster movies together. She's currently co-host with her husband, Paul Scheer, the Movie Discussion Podcast. How did this get made? A podcast that's a roundtable discussion where they try to make sense of movies that absolutely make no sense. She's won both a Webby and an iHeart award for that podcast, unlike us losers who haven't won anything. She's here today to tell us about the mother of all communities, the Jane Club. Please welcome to the show, June Diana Raphael. Well, don't you? Oh my God. Hold on. That's okay. Here's the typo. That's okay. Oh no, here we go. I've answered to
Starting point is 00:22:47 so much worse. No, I looked up. This always happens. I looked up and I have typoed June Diana Raphael. As it came out of my mouth, I was like, that's not her name. Why are you saying that? She knows she fucked up. It's fine. And this is right after I said, I spent like three hours producing the show because I just am like so intrigued by you and wanted it to be epic. And so cool. It's off to a great start. Well, are you going to leave meeting immediately? So, um, I, I really accept all pronunciations of my name. I, and, um, I, I think it's important for people to struggle through a name, by the way. Really? You know, I feel like that's an okay thing. Um, uh, you know, when people who I remember going to, to my Diane, I don't know
Starting point is 00:23:34 if like, technically this is like, that's not the part that, you know, what I was expecting you to struggle through to be like, I'm going to be honest. Like, it's like when you can't get Diane, like you should really was the easiest part. Now, do you have another, another middle name? Like, are you June Diane Penelope? I have, I was raised Catholic. I'm still recovering, but I, my, so my confirmation name was Kathleen. So that was, but I don't use that. Um, I started using Diane. My mother's name was Diane and it has always been my middle name. And when my mom passed away, I started using it as my full name professionally. Oh, I love that. Yeah. And it's, I love hearing people say it correctly.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Wow, Kelsey, now you really- Not only have you butchered my name, you've really destroyed the memory of my mother. Thank you so much. Okay. I want to start this podcast. We're going to get to the Jane Club, but I want to start with your husband because I find him very sexually attractive. And I just need to tell you this right away.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Like, he is my type. And I love him. Oh my God. i love a bald king um you know i do how did you guys meet paul and i met while casey and i were doing our sketch show we did a two-woman sketch show when we were 23 years old called road hard and put away wet at the upright citizens brigade and it was a show we wrote in and starred him and paul was performing improv at the ucb in new york and the artistic director of the theater this wonderful man Owen Burke who's now the godfather of my son said your show's going really
Starting point is 00:25:24 well but we had come from NYU and an acting like really traditional theater background he's like all of your sketches are one act plays he's like they should be two minutes and they're all 10 minutes each so he's like you should have some of the teachers here come in and give you notes in the show. So Paul Shearer was one of those people. So really our first interaction was him critiquing me in my work. And then you loved him. I know. I'm like any man who can critique me so confidently, I am. But he had, um, just gotten out of a relationship and I had just gotten out of a relationship. Um, and then we were friends for almost six months until like one drunken night when everything, you know, turns. That's how it happens. And that's, yeah, that's how it happened.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Wow. But, um, yeah, he's, he's amazing. And if he ever leaves, I go with him. Like I will find you kind of vibe. Oh yeah. Like, absolutely. Like I thought I was thinking more like a Romeo and Juliet thing. Oh, me too. No, no, no, no. He just doesn't have an option. Like I'm like, you may never leave me. You may never divorce me. And like, I know you think you can, and you have that agency over your life, but you actually don't because I will just still follow you. I'm into that. Yeah. Yes. Okay. So we're going to play a game later, but we were, when we were on a big text chain and we're talking about like, what, what should we do with June? Diana, No, when she comes on. What should we do with her when she comes on? I think that it was Becca's
Starting point is 00:27:06 idea. She said we should play a game called Sheer or Stay Clear. Was it your idea, Becca? That was my idea. Okay. Well, we didn't, we're not doing that. Okay. But anyway. But I did think it would be really fun because our girls, we talk a lot about red flags in relationships. So we thought it would be really fun if you could do Sheer or stay clear just to you. And if you could just give us three red flags that you should absolutely stay clear of. And then three shears that are like things that you can love that a guy does for you, like a, and it could be things he does or past boyfriends, whatever you do your thing. Yes. So, I mean, I was the one who was like throwing out every red flag in my own relationship
Starting point is 00:27:46 with Paul, but he, you know, I will say that a big red flag to me is any man who's in a state of like financial despair. And I'm sorry, I know it's 2021, but I am not interested. I am not interested. And I just feel like women, we have enough to worry about in terms of money and our own relationships to money. And we've got a wage gap we need to contend with, you know, we have businesses that are not being, you know, we're, we're not able to fundraise from venture capitalists, the same rate we have. So we have, we do not have access to generations of wealth. Okay. That men have spent, um, centuries accruing. Um, and, and I, of course I mainly mean white men, but I just can't take on their financial distress and credit card bills.
Starting point is 00:28:48 So that to me is like, come back to me when you're in a better place, but I'm not interested. That's great. It's not interesting. Valid. Very big red flag. Valado. Yeah. I also, okay.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Another red flag. Again, this isn't going to be popular, you know, and I'm not in the game of popularity. So you're in great company. I don't want a man to be more physically fit than I am. Me neither. Oh, no, no, no. That means they count macros and that means they're not going to have a burger with you and they're not going to get wasted with you.
Starting point is 00:29:33 There is like... Just call me old fashioned, but I don't want to see them counting calories. I don't want to see them like intense about working out. and in the same shame spiral it's like only one of us can hate our bodies here yeah like that's for you yeah bingo yeah and then you don't want to enable each other then it's just it is a spiral and i don't trust those couples that are like oh my god we're doing our sunday night meal prep with our chicken and veggies all week and like they're short shorts i'm like go yourself like only one of you can meal prep. The other one needs to be. It's called balance. Exactly. That's a big red
Starting point is 00:30:16 flag for me. And I just don't see that going well. And to be honest, Paul and I struggle that with that in our own relationship because he has spent this quarantine getting physically fit and I have a lot of resentment about it. Um, I really, I really do. So it's just not something I'm interested in seeing again from my own partner. Um, but let me see another red flag. Um, well, you know, I do think that, okay. It depends what age range you're in. Okay. I'm, I'm 40. I don't know when this is going to air in 2021, but maybe I'm 41. Um, and I think that for women who are around my age or in their thirties, dating men who have been divorced is a great pool to date from. And I find it to be a big old red flag if they have not been either married or
Starting point is 00:31:17 in a very serious relationship. Yes. Yes. That's a red flag. 1000%. I actually have a friend who just left a long-term relationship. Her new boyfriend is a mid forties and has never had a wife, a child, or a long-term relationship. I'm like, no, thank you. That's not normal. Well, like as you get into your thirties and older, it's like everybody starts to have baggage because you're supposed to have baggage. Like you're supposed to have carry some shit with your last relationships with you into the next. Absolutely. And you're supposed to have learned like, right. If you haven't done a long-term, no one has taught you. Yeah, exactly. And I don't have been trained yet by a woman. Yeah. If women haven't gotten their claws into you and shaped
Starting point is 00:32:05 you and you're just like a raw piece of cookie dough and I can't work with you, you know, like I need someone who's fully baked. And I do find it to be very odd, um, for a man to have gone that long without a long-term relationship. I am just not interested because to me, it's sort of like grief. There's no way around it. There's only through it and you can only learn having gone through it. So yes, there's baggage, but there's also, you know, someone taught you and you hopefully did some internal investigation. So I don't trust that. Now, do you have a sheer, Like, do you have one, like, what is the one thing that like, that you're like, this is a green means go. So I think any, I think watching how men interact with waitstaff is incredibly
Starting point is 00:33:06 telling. It is, we can extrapolate a lot from that interaction. Um, I think if they're, if they're rude, that's a non-starter. But one of the things they noticed about Paul right away was his genuine curiosity. I mean, this is one of my big complaints about men is they're not curious as a gender, um, specifically talking about straight men, but they just don't ask a lot of questions. Yeah. Um, I remember going on so many dates and being like, why am I asking all the, like this, yeah. But he's curious about me. Um, do you want to know my name? And Paul is just endlessly like curious about other people and also kind to every single person. And that to me, especially when it came to people in the service industry who
Starting point is 00:34:05 were not there to hire him or network with him. And there's no like potential can't do anything. Right. Yeah. Like there's when there's no, um, win at the other side of it, watching those relationships, like watching that interaction, I think is, uh, is really important. and um people who who genuinely treat every single person the same way that's what did you call it a sheer win a sheer here just oh that's just a sheer or a sheer win it's not a stay clear it is a sheer yeah it's a sheer okay got it it's a sheer that's so at lady gang we've spent the last five years creating a community of women around the world and we've you know talked about sex and relationships. And, um, we had like some girl like burn one of the boxes we made. And
Starting point is 00:35:02 that's like about as far as we got. Now you have also created a community for women and you got to like have a convert fireside chat with Jane Fonda. So you're obviously doing much better than us. So I started it back in 2017 because I had just had my second child and I was, well, I was working with Jane Fonda and Grace and Frankie. And I was so overwhelmed with just being a mother and working outside the home. And it was a very dark time. Um, and for some reason it hit me way more with the second than the first, but I, in the midst of this, uh, this postpartum time, I was, I was really thinking a lot about like, oh, wow, there's so much conversation and so many covers and so many panels about how like one woman does it and how one woman manages and balances
Starting point is 00:35:57 all of the professional, you know, requirements of her job and her children's schedule. And, and I was also doing both of those things and then also taking care of an older parent. So I was like, wow, at every end of life, I'm stretched. And I'm so tired of listening to the story of one woman and not spending more time thinking about like broader infrastructure for, for all women. Like why, why are we taking it on ourselves to come up with hot tips, you know, on how to do it, like burn the whole thing down because it wasn't created for us. And so I started doing a lot of research into like, oh, wow, women are having children later and later. That's probably a trend that's only going to continue. And we are now having our
Starting point is 00:36:47 first kids during the years where we should be making the most money we will ever make in our professional lives during the years where we should be buying ourselves many, many billboards. Um, and these years are so important. And I mean, we could talk a lot about what's happening to women right now in the pandemic, but that's really why the Jane club started because I fundamentally believe that we are not supporting women enough during these critical, critical years. And we are still forcing them to ultimately make a choice between parenting their small children and doing the caretaking in their lives and pursuing their professional dreams.
Starting point is 00:37:31 And I just was so frustrated that we created a, we started off with a physical space in Larchmont where we had our community space on the second and third floors where women would get together and work and meditate together. We offered fitness classes, all sorts of things. And then on the first floor was just childcare from nine to five. And it was really a magical oasis. We have with the pandemic shut down the physical space, but the craziest thing has been seeing what has launched online. So pretty much in a weekend, we created our online Jane club and women come together every single day. You know,
Starting point is 00:38:15 we have our internal messaging system. We have gatherings on Slack and we are, Paul, Paul Shear just hosted a talent show for the kids on Friday and we get together and support each other's children. And so many of our Danes are not parents and are still signing on to like give these kids right now a sense of confidence and self. And it's just really beautiful. And then we do happy hours and work sprints where we all commit to like, okay, I'm getting on a work sprint at 7am. oh y'all check in everybody's on zoom together about what we're doing you have to turn off like all emails and all phones and there's kind of a sense of an account of accountability because you're all together and you do these productivity sprints and they're really that's awesome so we
Starting point is 00:38:59 have tons of gatherings um we do happy hours we do yappy hours for our pets it's a dream world we do a lot of educational experiences too and diversity and equity labs we just did one on like cultural appropriation halloween costumes so there's just tons of today and tomorrow we're doing just phone banking all day yeah um so we have tons of activist opportunities and the community you know when the pandemic hit i was like well this has been a feminist oasis for the last two years and now we have to shut it down. And in fact, we realize it's more needed than ever. I'm sure you all know too, how much women need community, how we're creating it, how we want to be with our tribes. We want to be in the village. We want to support
Starting point is 00:39:55 each other. And so we've grown exponentially over the last few months. Our membership-based grew by like 420%. I couldn't even like calculate the numbers. It was pretty amazing. So now we're in 35 States and four countries and it's been really powerful. So, wow. So if you want to sign up, that's awesome. It's the Jane club.com. And I, I do want to mention that. Yes, you're a celebrity, but this is not like a goop situation where you can't afford it. Like the membership start at $40, I think. And so it's like, it's really something that everyone can accessible and Yes. Thank you for saying that. So Lady Gang listeners, I'm going to come up with, I'm just going to text someone real quick and we'll have a special code.

Enjoy. You're listening to the Lady Gang. I have a special game prepared and it is called Six Degrees of June. And we have not talked about your insane Hollywood career until now because I didn't want to give these girls any hints, even though you have sprinkled a few hints during the interview. So what I have done is I have created trivia questions that have to do with the Six degrees of june so the answer to this this will be a film or tv show and the person the person the celebrity that starred in it with june okay so you're gonna answer the the sorry i'm not doing
Starting point is 00:44:55 your job explaining this i'll just give you the first clue jack is playing wait is is june diana playing or am i just am i the judge no jack and becca will be doing first guess first round to see if they can get it. If they get it, then I want to hear if they're correct. And then if they can't get it, you can guess. Got it. Okay, perfect. Ready? Okay. It'll make more sense when you hear the question. Okay. First degree of June. He may be Canadian, but he's super bad. Most consider him one of the funniest people. Michael Cera. But if you tell him on your MacBook, you will see he's not a 40-year-old virgin. Jack, Becca? Wait, so we're supposed to guess who this person is? It's a person. Oh, Seth Rogen. Correct. I get this game now. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:44 June. Oh, that Seth was in a movie with Seth Rogen. Seth Rogen was in a movie with June. Diane. What did I just say? You said Seth Rogen was in a movie with Seth Rogen. My God. I'm brain dead. We all are. They were in a movie together. What movie was June in with Seth? Okay. You're going to be so much better at this game than me, Becca. Okay. June, what movie are you in with Seth? Well, two. Oh, long shot. That's what I'm thinking of. Okay. And then, but then also Seth and I were both in forgetting Sarah Marshall. Yes. Correct. Which I just watched the other day again. What's it like working with Seth Rogan? Um, amazing. I, yeah, I, I honestly think he's the best improviser I've ever worked with.
Starting point is 00:46:32 and it it's really incredible to see him work i think the most interesting thing about him though is like he has this persona of being a stoner and then you see him at work and i you know i spent the most time with him on long shot and he's when he's not in the scenes doing incredible work and improvising and throwing things out there and just like the way he can generate jokes and comedy is phenomenal but then when he has any any off time he's with his computer writing his next movie like he's just or punching up other scenes that other actors are about to shoot in this film like he's just a machine and also so kind and just wants everybody to do well love love love Seth Rogen. I just love him. Oh my God. Okay. So second degree of June. Here we go. Six degrees.
Starting point is 00:47:30 This is, yeah. Well, this is, that was, well, it's not really six degrees. When I texted Kelty, I was like, she's kind of like, like TV, Kevin Bacon. Like she's kind of worked with everybody by process. God, it's so interesting to hear this narrative. Um, I guess that's kind of true. To me, I'm also like, I think, but I don't know. I think sometimes everybody feels this way. I mean, maybe not Jane Fonda, but you're just like always looking for the next thing. You know, I'm like, oh, I'm still waiting for my career to start. Oh my God. That's nice to hear. Okay. Here's a former dance teacher who was a real Broadway baby. She's got a pair of Academy awards, but it's her Lycra cover booty. That's made her rich. What? I don't know. I don't know at all.
Starting point is 00:48:17 a Broadway baby like Liza Minnelli? Oh, I think I know, but I didn't know. Former dance teacher who is a real Broadway baby. She made her Broadway debut in 1960. This is not my wheelhouse. Got a pair of Academy Awards, but it's her Lycra covered booty that made her rich. Okay. I mean, I guess I do know, but you threw me and I was going to go, well, we'll talk about it one's i don't have i think i think you just go well i mean it's jane fonda it's jane fonda oh my god oh june here's brianna hansen for 79 episodes she's one of the main characters on the show incredible this is where i was thrown with like recovered booty because i thought this is a kate
Starting point is 00:49:03 hudson reference about phabletics oh and then they are not becoming you know okay yeah who knows And then I was like, well, I, I didn't know she was a, well, I didn't know Jane Fonda was a dance teacher. That's what it said on the internet back in the day. And then she was, she was in a play. There was a little girl in 1960 and she sold 17 million workout videos. Holy moly. She started, well, if you haven't seen, she started them, not only workout videos, but
Starting point is 00:49:35 also just like the VHS industry. Oh yeah. Her documentary, Jane Fonda in four acts or something like that, uh, on HBO really does a deep dive into like the workout videos and it's just incredible. And also the workout videos were basically financing her husband's, um, like progressive well and hers, but progressive activism. Um, that's why she started them, which I'm like, Oh my God, this woman, this and her fucking body still sick and her style we were at some event and she's standing there and i swear
Starting point is 00:50:14 swear to god it was like her body was you could like bounce a quarter off her ass i know it's crazy is it intimidating to be on a set with lily and jane like i mean nine to five like yeah it is but i do play a character that is so confident and so kind of has such a very healthy sense of self, that it makes it easier because I have to come in at a level that's so uber confident. And it was funny, I was talking to someone on the show who I hadn't really known that well over the last seven seasons. And when we were talking, he was like, oh my gosh, you're actually so sensitive and so much more feeling than Brianna oh they all do because I also have to come to set a little bit in character you know what I mean like and I didn't really realize I did
Starting point is 00:51:15 that but now I'm like oh I kind of have because I have to because otherwise I think I would implode in like a cloud of self-doubt and I have to come in with, um, this kind of brash and loud and fearless attitude because it's, there's no other way. Like I can't come in and out of that. Um, because I am deeply sensitive, but I just can't be that way there. So, uh, but I love working with jane and lily and they're and i mean it's insane they're incredible and the two of them also like you'll find them in a corner laughing together and just like they're they're like they're so girlish and sweet and fun um it's beautiful it's really special i just saw them on the dolly parton um oh they're so good and the fact that they were like dolly never came out without her wig
Starting point is 00:52:16 it's just so epic it's so good okay next one number three they've both been guests in the lady gang office but we split them up but i guess they had a good time because they both host their own podcasts now she's got blades of glory and he's a real scream queen and you may catch him down at Dawson's Creek or taking a stroll in Nashville. Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson. Has Kate Hudson been a guest? Oh shit. But Oliver is right. Oliver and he has a podcast with who? He has a podcast with Kate Hudson. They each have their own podcast, not together. Oh, okay. Okay. Wait. So then who was this other? Oh, Jenna Fisher. Yes. I was really confused with Oliver Hudson because I don't I'm now remembering he was on that series which I can't
Starting point is 00:53:12 remember the name of Dawson's Creek he was on Nashville he was no no but the show that I was on with them was called splitting up together and the reason I put this up it was one of my favorite new sitcoms and I know you were a guest star you played Tamron Thomas Vandaloo and I know it was a guest star but I really loved the show and there weren't that many people that had been on Lady Gang in your career. Like we haven't had Jane or Larry David. We're a little bit too like D-list. Number four. Here we go. This former limo driver got a history degree, was in the Army Reserve, and he's insanely rich. Rumor has it this show doesn't have a script, but at least it's not another show about nothing. Well, that's going to be Larry David. Curb your enthusiasm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:57 I need, I, sorry, I, I need to ask you something about Larry David. So he, he did the look with you in that episode. How was that experience? Because that's all I've ever wanted in life is for him to look into my soul. Sure. So wait, can I just say that this was a Kirby enthusiasm? You played BB X, the X, this is the accidental text on purpose episode, which is like so good. So good. So the, I know I'm in other scenes, but the only one I really remember to be honest is the scene where me and Larry are on an airplane together. Okay. Yeah. So I, um, I mean, I had auditioned for Larry and improvised with him in many auditions and never got the role, but I was always like called in to improvise with him and it was always a thrill. And then they offered me
Starting point is 00:54:52 this. And I came in and all they told me was, you're going to be on the plane. And I had to lie about my bladder, which was the end of the scene. So that was really all the scene was going to be about, which was me lying about the fact that I had a bladder condition and saying I had to sit on that side. So nothing else was supposed to be in the scene, but I said to the prop guy, I was like, you know, can I, cause I had a big bag. I'm like, can you get me like dental floss, a water spray bottle, a hairbrush? Like I asked for all these things and I knew that they were like kind of had us in a two shot together and I just started I just started doing it and I knew Jeff Schaefer is that like was directing that episode and is a friend of mine so I also felt
Starting point is 00:55:52 like say confident I felt yeah I felt like I could probably do this here and not be like ushered off the set by security um and he just loved it and like it was just all so anyway what's on what's in the episode was truly happening in real time he had no idea what was about to come out of that bag and it was so much fun i mean to me my favorite type of comedy is i fall into like the lily Tomlin kind of like physical that physical stuff that's silent that's non-verbal that's honestly old-timey clown work is for me what I love watching and what I find to be the most fun to do and so it was such a joy and he was just so stunned by everything I mean that's what's on screen yeah and so to have that experience with Larry David I mean the next time you're like I'm an
Starting point is 00:56:54 up-and-comer just like play that back on a loop I guess you're right it is so good it's just like it's like a clown bag that you keep like pulling shit out of it's so yes and I'm so glad I mean this prop guy had he was really confused because he didn't know it was in the scene he's like nothing. They didn't say anything about the stuff. He was freaking out. I think some of that stuff was just his, like he was running to hair and makeup. He was just like trying to get all this shit for me. And I was like, I promise you, I need it. I need it. I need it. And God bless him. He got it. And it was just so much fun. It was just so much fun. When I took out the dental floss like that's when he really broke yeah um no he was like oh too far yeah he was like
Starting point is 00:57:44 i just can't um but it was a dream come true and he was so again similar to seth similar to lily like just wants you to be funny like they're so confident in their own shit you know what i mean they're like please i'm not worried about myself i but they're delighted when they can they can be in a scene and it'd be surprising and someone else can be funny. And I just think that when you have actors like that who are so generous, it's just like everybody wins. That's really cool. So yeah, it was the best experience ever. Jenna Fisher was on the podcast and told a story of how she bombed a Curb Your Enthusiasm audition. And she said it was the worst experience of her entire career like she just everything fell flat it was terrible terrible and then larry goes to
Starting point is 00:58:37 like usher her out and opens the door for her and like does this with his arm and she thinks he's going in for a hug it's like the most embarrassing story of all time it's so bad well someone had told me i don't know who gave me this hot tip maybe it was paul someone had told me like when you're improvising with larry just don't is he doesn't want women to cry and i did understand that like because you know you're trying to find the way the scene's gonna go and and i did intuitively understand like you kind of have to keep it buoyed and he has to you have to enrage him and once you start crying like he's just gonna want to take care of you yeah and then the scene's over yeah so um you have to kind of be like find how to beat an asshole as well so that yeah you
Starting point is 00:59:30 can keep on mining stuff but and it's so true like there's a really fine line because as a viewer like you're also like this bitch like taking on her totally you're like granted he's not handling it the way that i would but like right how dare she yeah well he's such an asshole that the other person needs to be more of an asshole so you can always be on larry's side yes absolutely absolutely and i think if someone gets emotional it's harder oh yeah yeah well i'm gonna get emotional if i don't get all six degrees in and please let's go there's no six degrees i'm just saying it's a game i made have you never played six degrees of kevin bacon here we go she went from almost famous to totally famous after winning a golden globe and then was named as one of the most beautiful people
Starting point is 01:00:17 in the world she loves a musician boyfriend just ride wars but not as much as leggings ride wars so classic and classic classic and it's not it's 2009 so we're always like classic but it's not that old you know what i mean it's just seems nostalgic it'll always you know it is it's classic i mean it's always on a dry bar always maybe that's why it feels 30 years old for sure if i that's the one time like that actually makes me think i have made it in this industry if a movie i've been a part of making is playing on a loop at dry bar like it's truly never not on the amount of texts i receive pre-pandemic when people were just at dry bar all the time like in dry bar real heyday yes the amount of
Starting point is 01:01:08 text i received from people just like look at where you are found you here i'm like i'm always on that dry bar like i made it because i'm on a dry bar 24 7 i never understood like do they have a dvd they're just playing in every dry bar location or is it just like it's one of those movies that's always on tbs you know those movies that are just like i know i can imagine that the royalty checks for bride wars could be great they're keeping me afloat oh yeah definitely it's on e on saturdays yep e that's right yeah no thank god for residuals especially with the writers guild um because bride wars is i mean and people forget like because movies don't make that much money anymore like bride wars made over 100 million dollars and was a box office success
Starting point is 01:01:59 smash you know right um but now i'm like oh it wasn't necessarily it was seen as a successful movie but not like a critically acclaimed certainly not critically acclaimed certainly not but now i look back on it i'm like oh yeah i have to tell casey this all the time i'm like we we made and did it wrote a movie that was a blockbuster success um let's not forget it uh just because movies don't make that much anymore we forget like oh yeah it's huge yeah okay last one last one and then we have to go i'm so sorry this is wait i have a question a fun question people always ask us these random things between you and paul like what is the most shockingly lucrative residual check that just keep the gift that keeps oh i know mine so surprising
Starting point is 01:02:54 yeah well it's a movie i was not in yes so i shot a scene in stepbrothers and i would played a um i think john c reilly's like teacher and we had a scene i thought it was a great scene but guess the editor did not feel the same way uh was left on the editing room floor and i that movie is quite successful and i still see a healthy amount of residuals from that movie that i am not in great um i didn't realize at the time i'm like oh yeah you still get paid that's amazing yes well it might be me who's responsible because anytime i smoke marijuana i want to watch set brothers. It's so good. Thank you. Thank you so much. It's so f***ing good. The first time I just happened to like put it on after I'd smoked some weed, I was like, this, like Will Ferrell, we know
Starting point is 01:03:55 he's brilliant. Like it's like, he's brilliant. But if you are stoned and you watch his work in that movie, you're like, this is f***ing Shakespearean level. You understand him on a different level. It's crazy. It's crazy. It's so good. It's awesome to now see my kids experience Phil Farrell and Elf. Cause that's really their first, you know, understanding of him and he is such a genius and there's such joy in his performances. That's, it's just like jumps off the screen and yeah, it's so cool to see them like, whoa, you know, totally buy it. He's so committed. He's so joyful. It's so fun to watch. Last one. Should we get bangs? Not if you don't want to wait 500 days of summer for them to grow out wait oh shit i just screwed it up oh i know i
Starting point is 01:04:41 know i know new girl new girl not if you don't let me just spend three hours on this can i just read it for a second i know you can tell that kelty can't let this go should we get bangs not if you don't want to wait 500 days for them to grow out she'll be in the corner with him playing ukulele or banjo but great scott the house looks a little different these days you're right it's new girl so we did 500 days of summer she's dating jonathan scott sadie here with us today yes yes dr sadie actually i did have dr sadie in my nose just like i had your proper name but you know what i didn't do my own thing this game was great i just want to say for a sec in my defense this game was great because of this game you opened up so many stories instead of just being
