Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, the following podcast is a Lady Gang Network and Podcast One production, which means it's going to be awesome. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. hi guys how does my mic sound kelty it sounds pretty good today i got a yelling at by no you did it i'm sorry no it was it nope nope it was a stern talking to you guys don't it wasn't even stern i'm not the bad guy i listen i'm not screamed at me i did not you're so she did it she did it i said jack i need to talk to you about your mic i don't know what the answer is sometimes your voice
Starting point is 00:00:54 sounds a little tinny it could be the fact that i drive a fiat because on my phone just maybe your car is a little bit tinny that's what i'm saying it sounded amazing on my phone just now that's true and when i was driving in my car i was like this is not 100 perfect and then i was sad and it was you i know you've been sick but this is the thing disappointment is worse than anger so yes it's like disappointed i know and i'm sorry because when we record you constantly pull my mic away from me i know and then you're telling me now that i am so maybe your levels are just too jackmanicky our audience just turned it off um by the way sounds great did you notice i got a new candle personal power i didn't it's a mantra candle oh my god it's too has too long of a mantra
Starting point is 00:01:36 for me to read i stand in my power fully i don't like those prayer candles because they say you can't actually put them out or they don't work so you have to let them burn they don't work for the prayer yeah whatever just for mantras you can blow a mantra you have to let the prayer candle go in one shot yes that's gonna take days it's awful you can't leave your house house lights on fire you sound excellent by the way i do yeah all right well you guys ready that is definitely kelty's good week but for the rest of us it's time for good week yes it is bad week oh no i have to go first because i made an observation this week that's very important it's gonna offend many love those start strong here on the lady gang here comes somebody ranting on facebook about
Starting point is 00:02:20 this yeah i know we live in la people drive like crazy they just do it everyone's angry everyone's in a hurry but there's one specific driver that acts like they're in a goddamn go cart and that vehicular rules do not apply yes do you know who these drivers are yes Priuses. Every time I'm near a Prius. And I think what it is, is that because the way it feels when you drive a Prius, there's no like vrooming engine. It really does feel like a golf cart or a go-kart. So it kind of feels like you're in a game. Oh yeah. Well, this is how I feel like if I'm in any car, that's a normal like sedan size. Cause I drive a Jeep. I feel like I am on the ground playing mario kart that's that's what it is but they they're also like usually
Starting point is 00:03:08 and this is a very general statement oh you're in so much trouble already i don't care they're usually dicks like i've found that people yeah the people who are the biggest dicks to me on the road are always in priuses because they're like saving the earth and they're not even saving the earth like they did a study and the batteries from those priuses are like worse for the environment than our gas i used to drive a prius and i gotta be honest i couldn't even see out of the windshield it's the weirdest car weird i'm not a fan of priuses i hope they well i guess they're not i'm not a fan of their drivers so if you drive a prius get your shit together that's a really good observation good week okay i you know i love finding a stereotype oh so um my good
Starting point is 00:03:45 week i i don't know if i was extra like emotional but i started watching botched like i've watched it here and there, but I binged. And number one, I freaking love Dr. Dubrow and Dr. Nassif. They have the best bromance in the entire world. I love it. I love it. They didn't bug me at all during like 17 episodes of Botch, but here's the thing that really got me. They have heart and soul. You laugh. There's a little bit of like quirky, weird people that come on. But this one woman came on who had had a double mastectomy. She had had her nipples were gone and she had reconstructive surgery. She was just, she looked like Frankenstein. She called herself this. She's like, I look like Frankenstein. Like
Starting point is 00:04:28 my whole body's messed up. They fixed her whole body like this miracle surgery. And then at the end of the episode, Dr. Dubrow brought in this tattoo artist to do the nipples. You know how Shaughnessy did like on the podcast. So this guy comes in and he does beautiful nipples on this woman and she stands there and she cries and she's like, I don't know what I did to deserve to be able to be in this position. Like I was sobbing watching botched. Good job, E. nice little show if you're our bosses out there congratulations on having two wonderful shows on your network yes two or the other one are we the other one yes okay yeah maybe not okay like yes nightly pop is also great which it is the lady gang is decent okay well on the basis of tv shows
Starting point is 00:05:12 my favorite tv show from my youth is coming back what unsolved mysteries i don't remember that show I do. No. Oh, my God. I couldn't watch it and then fall asleep at night. Oh, my God. I was asleep with the lights on. You've never heard of Unsolved Mysteries?
Starting point is 00:05:27 Come on. I have a terrible memory. It had like a really creepy host. And like all they did. Is he coming back? Is it for kids? I think he might be dead. It's not for kids.
Starting point is 00:05:36 But I used to watch it as a kid. He got murdered and it's unsolved. So it's coming back? They're bringing it back. So it was like the original true crime show back in the day. Like along with Dateline in 2020, whatever. But they're bringing it back to Netflix with the people that did Stranger Things. So it'll be like artsy and hopefully stylistic and shit.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I'm very excited. I just found out about it. So that was my bad week. I was on the plane this morning and I went to go to the bathroom and I dropped my air pod into the toilet. That's it. Did you take it back out? Had to fish it out with my fingers.
Starting point is 00:06:08 No, you didn't. This is now the second thing I've dropped in an airplane. In your own pee or where you peed yet? In my own pee. And many others. And yes, that was. You can't even clean an air pod. Are you going to keep them?
Starting point is 00:06:18 Yep. Because I already had to replace it because it flew out of my ear in the car one time, too. I don't know if it flew out of your ear. Did you guys see on Instagram that they're now making, like, clips on strings for your earpods? And it's like we're basically back to earplugs. What do you mean clips on strings? Like a holder for your earpods. It's essentially the headphones.
Starting point is 00:06:39 It's the string for the headphones. It's turning it back into headphones. It doesn't plug into your phone. That was a really fast turnaround. I feel like earpods haven't even been around for a year yet. Because everyone's losing their fucking earpods. They're like, here's a string to put it on. Oh, you mean just the headphones that were before the earpods?
Starting point is 00:06:53 Like, you idiot. Those wireless headphones that I had before. And then the strings probably cost like $200. Yeah. Apple's a genius. Apple is a genius. They build you something great with a problem on it, and then they sell it to you, and then they come out with the thing for the problem.
Starting point is 00:07:08 I know. They're like, not enough RAM? Here's a hard drive for you. We can put more RAM on that computer. It's $4,000. and you're like, oh, I thought when I got that brand new MacBook that it would actually work. I'm sorry for thinking that. Literally, they could sell me shit. But that's how Apple is. Everything is cool and sleek and amazing. And you're like, sure, I'll pay $2,000 for this
Starting point is 00:07:27 thing I don't think I need. I won't. I know you won't. All right. Good week. I had the most fun girls weekend ever. Oh, my God. I saw you Instagramming the shit out of it. I love it. The first time you hung out with friends of the year. Also, what porn den were you in? That was – It did look like a 70s – I know. Like Ron Jeremy's condo.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah. Well, this is what I want to tell you. This is my good week. So I had a fun girls weekend and we stayed in a suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Oh. So that was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Yes. And we went out to dinner that night at whatever the cactus – I don't know what the frick
Starting point is 00:08:01 it's called. But it's like the big polo lounge or whatever at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Yeah. And guess who I saw? Who? Ron Jeremy. Shut your mouth. yes wait that's really weird that's amazing we're staying in like an opium den and then i looked and
Starting point is 00:08:15 ron jeremy was wearing like crocs and sneakers croc sneakers with like um socks and also try and act really important and i was like oh not my place anyway that was my bad i've never not seen a celebrity at polo lounge i've seen ron jeremy so many times in life i actually have two i feel like he is all over the place around town but only like in the beverly hills area yeah Oh, yeah. He's going to the places to be seen, honey, in those Crocs. I saw him at Cantor's Deli once. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Those are the kind of places he goes. He's got gray hair now. I wonder if his curtains match the hair. I don't think the carpet matches the drapes. Oh, whatever. Sorry. Okay. Bad week.
Starting point is 00:08:57 So we're sitting at dinner and everyone – my friend Courtney's house just got broken into. And, like, we start going around the table with all of our, like, crazy stories about, like, scary stuff. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, I don't know. I have this, like, amazing security system at my house and I can see everything. But I haven't really looked at it in a while. So I look at it and then there's two videos, clear as day, people trying to break into my house. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:09:21 No. Yes. Do you want to see it? Yeah. In the day or at night? At night. One of them is at, like, 4 o'clock in the morning. No.
Starting point is 00:09:27 The guy is in. Were you home? I was home. That's terrifying. I know the guy is in like a hoodie. Did you knock in notifications of this? Well, I turned my notifications off because I'm an idiot. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Hold on. Okay, here you go. So we're watching. We're watching. Okay, there's your front door. He's coming. This is 4 a.m.? 4 a.m.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Did you report this? I didn't report it yet, but then he walks back out. He clearly has a bat. He can't get in, so he leaves. And then there's another one, too. He has a bat? Is it the same guy? No, different guy.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Different time. He goes in. He never comes out. We have no video of him coming out. I don't know. Did you jump the fence? So anyway. Or does he live there now?
Starting point is 00:10:06 So then my girlfriends at the dinner table, and I was like, oh, my God. And they're like, well, maybe they're just trying to get to the park. And I was like, y'all are idiots. No. You don't come in a balaclava and a black hoodie. What's a balaclava? Sorry. That's the Canadian for like a ski mask.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Oh, I thought it was like the type of house she had. I thought it was the type of baseball bat. And a bat. And I was like, you know what? That's scary. So don't worry, everyone. I ordered two more rings. Thank God for they sponsoring this podcast so I get the deal.
Starting point is 00:10:31 rings so now i'm gonna have a six ring house notifications on don't mess with me i will knife you oh that is really scary that is scary i know all right coming up story i'm kind of disturbed bring our spirits back up bring your spirits back up he will and he will now back to the lady gang we're very excited about this our guest today is the go-to guy for stars like jennifer aniston Miley Cyrus, Jillian Michaels, Kim Basinger, Kelly Osbourne, Ireland Baldwin, and Emma Roberts, and many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many. He looks confused. Is this wrong?
Starting point is 00:11:05 What? That's a little dated. Okay. Give us the update. Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie. I like those better. Gwyneth Paltrow. I like those better, too.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Well, okay. I wasn't done. Tony probably gave you that old list. No. That old list just circulated. Hold on. Listen. He touched all these people.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Can you guys let me finish my thing? Yeah, go. Sorry. Because it's in the next sentence. Okay, go. his pop jesus christ no i'm just kidding top crowd his popular instagram account features looks from gwyneth margot robbie and charlie's honey basically he's part of the cool kids club that we wish we were in and he's here to make us beautiful share the tea and make us all cool
Starting point is 00:11:44 blondes he loves a meme and britney spears please welcome to the lady gang justin anderson Welcome. I'm so excited to be here. I love all of you guys. We love you. This is a really exciting day for me. My favorite thing about it is that you were like, on your Instagram, you're like, cool blonde.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Cool blonde. Well, that's my thing. I have sweatshirts that I sell that say I'm a cool blonde because one of our products within my line, Deepie Hue, is our cool blonde shampoo and conditioner. And I've just kind of like made a name for myself in the blonde world. You are the blonder. Yeah. The blonde.
Starting point is 00:12:15 The blonder. I have so many questions about this. Ask me anything. OK, can I can I start with the one that I really want to know the answer to? And you can lie if you have to. I don't know what your NDA is like. Does Jennifer Aniston have extensions? No, she doesn't.
Starting point is 00:12:31 She does not have extensions. And Jennifer is one of the people that I am really, really protective of because I've worked with Jennifer for years and I love her. And the first thing I always say about her is whatever you want or whatever your idea of Jennifer Aniston is, she beats it by a million. She's just amazing. Amazing. The nicest person on earth. I feel so lucky to even know her, be around her, whatever. But I am really private just with Jennifer because Jennifer, she doesn't have social media. And I think she's so cool for that. You know, I just read an article that she did recently where she just said, you know, that's the one thing that she can keep private. Her life is so in the public. She's like, why would I want to share more? And so she is someone that I just I don't talk about her much, you know, and she doesn't have any real good gossip anyway. I mean, there's nothing like, no, I don't need, I didn't need you to gossip. I just need to know if that hair was real. Because to me, when she comes down to red carpet, I said this on our TV show and it
Starting point is 00:13:23 aired on E! Which is like so embarrassing. Please don't tell her. But I was like, Jennifer Aniston looks like she just had sex in the back of the car and a margarita. Like she looks that much, like she's that much fun. Right. She just looks fun.
Starting point is 00:13:34 She's the girlfriend that you're like, let's go to Cabo. And she's like, yeah, bitch. And she is. She is that much fun. She's so fun to be around. But also, I mean, the credit there is to Chris McMillan. And Chris McMillan has been styling her hair forever. And he really is.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I mean, I've been doing hair for like 15 years now and seen all kinds of hairdressers. And Chris McMillan is, he's like a hair god. Like he makes hair look amazing. But also I just think it's like the way that Jennifer wears it. You know, like her clothes, her makeup. So cool. Nothing's ever like overdone. And just like you said, like that messy hair.
Starting point is 00:14:06 It's like so effortless, but it looks perfect on her. And I really think it's the way she wears it. She's also like a freakishly beautiful person. or like if any of us tried not that hard we'd look like garbage yeah yeah my other thing and i want the people of the world to know charlize someone else you work with i have to say after interviewing hundreds of celebrities that i think charlize is the most beautiful celebrity in real life as to what she looks like in a do or add like they're the same yeah no like sometimes like people have photoshop or they're like not as stunning in like their non-photoshopped
Starting point is 00:14:42 Vogue cover, but she's like, she's stupid. She looks like human face to me. You're stunning in person. You really are, though. I'm the only one that has makeup on. It's true. She never went home last night. I tried for you. I have been wearing this
Starting point is 00:14:58 jumpsuit for like three months, but I tried. But it is true with Charlize. Charlize is a newer client to me. I just recently started working with Charlize. And every once in a while, I'll get these calls to work with a certain person and I get super excited. And she was one of those people, you know, I hate when people say like, oh, celebrities, I don't get excited about celebrities or I don't care about celebrities, which we all care about celebrities to a certain degree.
Starting point is 00:15:21 And I care about celebrities in the sense that, like, I care about people who are successful and driven. And so I like to be around people who have, you know, Jennifer Aniston's been in this business forever. And to be in this business forever like that, there has to be something really special about you. And I like to be around that kind of energy, you know, Charlize Theron is an icon. They're sparkly people. So we're not going to sit here and just ask you to gossip about celebrity. I do want to know about you. So tell me the story.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Like how did you – like what terrible beauty school did you go to and like intern where? How many people's hair did you fuck up in the process? You know, since I was a little kid, I've always been obsessed with hair and blonde hair in particular. Like just little kid obsessed with hair. The first art class I took, I was painting a picture of Kim Basinger's hair in the movie Batman because I was like obsessed with her. and then cut to she's a client of mine which is was another huge moment yeah like that was one when she sat in my chair like immediately had to say i'm like i've just got to say that like you've been my everything since i was like a little kid did you tell her the story where you
Starting point is 00:16:23 like i was drawing your hair back in the day yeah i told her and she's the sweetest person in the world she like immediately makes you feel so comfortable and like love she's like family to me like she i love her so much so that was like a really cool moment in my career but um when i was kid obsessed with hair always drawing pictures of hair all the time but i come from a really big mormon family and like lots of guy cousins for whatever reason and very um athletic in a very athletic family like i have a lot of cousins who played professional sports so in the back of my mind i was always like i could never tell my family that i want to do hair for a living like no way you know so i went to college pretended that i was straight i joined a fraternity i was
Starting point is 00:16:59 like hanging out like being totally like a bro but in the back of my mind i'm like i want to do hair so bad i was so afraid to tell my parents so after my second year of college right before i was going back to school i remember my parents were in hawaii where my grandparents lived and um i called them and told them i was dropping out of college and going to beauty school and my mom lost her mind like lost her mind in a bad way yeah just because i think at that point it was kind of like that was almost my way of also coming out of the closet maybe you know i think immediately she started asking me a lot of other questions and like what do you mean you want to drop out of college and do hair. Like nobody makes a lot of bombs. Yeah, exactly. Like, yeah. So now I've,
Starting point is 00:17:37 uh, I've made her realize that it is a career and she's proud of me now. And we have a really good relationship. I was with my mom last night for dinner. Well, I'm sure she's so proud about what were the first years like, because you're not, it's 10 years to be an overnight sensation, honey. I mean, you didn't come out of the womb doing Charlize Theron's hair. You know, I really think that like in life, if you do what you really, really want to do, and you're super passionate about, chances are you will be successful at it. I mean, of course, there's a lot of, like, there's chance and luck, and, you know, you have to really be driven and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:18:08 But I did really well really quick. You know, I was really young when I started doing hair. I knew, like, three major colorists in L.A. that I wanted to work for. And so I went and assisted all of them, kind of learned their techniques. And then I just – it happened pretty quick. My first big break was Kirsten Dunst going from red to blonde for Antoinette and then back to Red for Spider-Man. And I did that.
Starting point is 00:18:31 And what happened was I was an assistant, just went on the floor. I worked at this really cool, posh salon at the time. And it was the end of the day. And somebody called and said, Kirsten does and needs her hair done now. Is there anyone that could do it? And everyone was like, I'm out or whatever. And I'm like, I'll stay and do it. And so I stayed in the salon until like 1 o'clock in the morning.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I did that. And then the next week, Vogue reached out to me and said, we want to write an article about you. And so that was just like, I was literally like 22 years old or something crazy. And they like in Vogue magazine put a picture of me, you know, in this whole thing. And it's so kind of like went from there. Congratulations, man. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:19:03 That's really cool. And it's an act of bravery to be who you really are. You know what I mean? It's not easy to defy your family's wishes or whatever and then go on and do your life and then be so successful that you're like such an inspirational story. That's really cool. Thank you. That's really cool. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Let me talk about Britney Spears. So you have a lot. I'm not going to talk about celebrities, but anyway, it's pretty serious. No, but you have two Instagram handles. Both of them are like gold. Popping off. I mean, I'm going to say it's gold. Insane.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Honestly. I love you, bud. Fuck, fuck, Jerry. Fuck the fat Jewish. Follow Justin Anderson. Like, I die every day. A little death in the best way. I love that.
Starting point is 00:19:44 I have so much fun with Instagram. I think Instagram should just be fun, and I have so much fun with it. I never have any sort of filter. Yeah. Can I talk about your trip to New York recently? Oh, my gosh. Was that just a shit show? Like, watching.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Like, I can't even explain. You were drunk the whole time. I was drunk for 12 days straight. And the funny thing is, I put on this, you know, on Instagram, you know, like, when I share, I only want to share if something's, like, funny or I'm, like, educated or something. I don't just post everything. But when I'm drunk, I post everything, you know? So I think a lot of people who look at it are like, this guy is like a drug addict or an alcoholic or whatever, but I have a very balanced, like when I'm back in town, like
Starting point is 00:20:27 I go to bed at 10 o'clock. You were doing yoga at 5 a.m. this morning. Yeah, I went to yoga this morning at 5 a.m. I know your life. No, thank you. Stalker here would like to ask you the next question. It's so good. You're missing every, you have to follow him.
Starting point is 00:20:38 So we love this. So on the hair, Instagram is a lot of the hair and the clients and the photo shoots and all the beautiful stuff. And then your Justin Anderson account is, like, meme city. And there's just a lot of Britney Spears is what I noticed. And so I want to know, like, have you ever, like, stalked Britney to get to do her hair? Like, what's going on? No.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Because she needs some help. She needs some help. You guys, I think the thing is, is I love Britney Spears. I think, you know, Britney Spears was, when I was in high school, she was just, like, everything, right? And I've been obsessed with her forever. I root for her no matter what, but I don't really want to do her hair. I just think I'm so afraid that it'd be like a huge letdown. It's like meeting your idols.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Yeah. And here's the thing with Brittany. I feel like Brittany's one of those people like she'd get in the chair and give you five minutes to do it. And it's like, girl, this needs. Yeah. I've heard she gets haircuts standing up, walking around the house. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:26 And I like, I can't, I can't deal with that. Well, I'm sure she has like her like childhood friend dyeing her hair. You can't put your work on that. No. No. No. And that's the thing. I wouldn't even want to claim it or anything.
Starting point is 00:21:36 and um so no i like to kind of keep that separate but is it hard for you as a true britney stan to see sometimes it actually kills you yeah it kills me too like it kills me and then when it's good it's so freaking good so you're like yeah i don't know you know how to have good hair yeah why don't you just keep it i just really think that she is like lazy i think she's like she does gives no yeah before her show i think it's like five minutes a little tease and she goes No, halfway – you've seen her show. Three times. The biggest one, three times.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Were you part of the era of when she was doing the show that, like, halfway through she put her own pony in? Oh, yeah. And then she would just keep cranking it. But I love a good ponytail crank. Like, that cheerleader crank is my favorite thing in the world. She gets a little bit sweaty and the extension is starting to, like, flop. Oh, my gosh, yeah. She just puts it up in her own pony, like, with a – like, she's a fucking baddle around her wrist.
Starting point is 00:22:29 She's, like, in the middle of, you better work, bitch. And she's like, oh, I think I feel like a pony now. And then it just gets wonker, wonker. And then the best part of this is she does this in effort. This is like part of the show. It's not like she just did it one day because she was like sweating. The best part about it is that girl has a bob like me. Like it's only this long.
Starting point is 00:22:45 And so the extensions are all tied up in the cranked pony. And then the real hair length is all down at the back. But then all of us just like forgive her for it. And the thing that I always say about that is we can hate on Brittany all we want. But it's like there, again, there's something about her. it's like yeah there's no one else like her she's so lovable even when she's like f***ing up it's like you're just amazing and i hear from people who've worked with her it's like the minute she kind of like looks you in the eyes you're like oh wow that's a f***ing star like there's just
Starting point is 00:23:12 like a twinkle in her eyes even you know as crazy as she can be whatever i mean there's something there she's no one like yeah there's no one like her sorry ariana oh my god don't say that Listen, no, I love Ariana. Don't, how dare you? I just, she's not the same, not the same level. Never will be. Who will be? Who will be?
Starting point is 00:23:30 Someone tried to say to me the other day that Dua Lipa was, and I was like, oh my God, Dua Lipa's career like happening. Brittany Spears, everybody knows every one of her songs. I don't know a Dua Lipa song. Also, watch a Brittany Spears video. Oh my God. For days. She also became a star during the time of TRL, music videos on TV.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Boy bands, that whole thing. Everything now is so segregated because you can go on the internet and you watch what you want. But back in the day when Britney was coming up, it was forced down our throat so everyone knows everything. It's like that's the last of that era. My next question, perfect segue for what you just said though. What is – in general, you work with all these famous women. We are trying to become famous women. I mean Becca is on her way.
Starting point is 00:24:14 You guys are so famous. Becca is on her way. But we have – we're trying to like make it – and we want to be in the cool kids club. So what is something that is the through line between all these famous women you work with? If you had to say like a characteristic or something we should be doing that we're maybe not. I can honestly say. This feels thirsty. It definitely is thirsty.
Starting point is 00:24:35 What do I need to change starting tomorrow? No, I mean, this is like. What's the through line of these powerful women? Because it's not easy to live in Hollywood and to be at this level for a long time. A serious like dedication to their craft. You know, I look at a girl like Margot Robbie who, like, is on top of the world right now. And when she's sitting in my chair, I mean, she is studying scripts. She's on the phone with agents.
Starting point is 00:24:56 She's working deals. Like, when she's getting her hair done, she had, like, a meeting with her production team. And she, like, she's in it for the right reasons. She loves, like, the acting part. Like, she's not worried about the red carpet and all that kind of stuff. I think with Jennifer Aniston, same type of thing. She's obsessed with acting. She loves it, loves movies.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Charlize, the same type of thing. Chelsea Handler, she's so, like, dedicated to her craft. And like – but then I think the thing that makes these women – you know, when I name off those names, it's like, whoa, those are really big freaking names. You know, Miley Cyrus is another client of mine. And when I think about these girls who stay in this business for a really long time and they do really well, I think another thing is they're really professional and they're really, really nice. I think if you're just like a dick in this town, like you float away. It's like we hear about these people who like are on set are just like a nightmare. And Hollywood's small.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Like people think about that. They don't want to work with you again. And if you're, like, really fun to be around, like, people will want to do more movies with you, more projects. So it's, like, I think that's a lot of it. Like, being professional. Yeah. I've worked with these young actresses that I thought at the time were going to be, like, a huge deal, right? And they'd be in my chair and they were – if I could, like, talk about certain people, but that's just me.
Starting point is 00:26:03 But, like, certain people are just nightmares and they just go away and they'll never make – and they could be the best actress in the world. But it's, like, when you act like that, like, no one wants to work with you. I love that. It's so true. Yeah. It's so true. Like, those mega, mega stars are really fucking nice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:17 What if Paltrow on the set of Glee acted like everybody else? Totally. And you're like, then why is this, like, 22-year-old twat acting like she's too busy to be here? No, and that's, like, an insecurity, I think. I think they think that that's how they'll, like, act like a movie star. And you're so delusional to think that. Miley said something to me that Dolly Parton told her, said, you know, whenever you're on a set, make sure that you talk to the lighting people, the sound people. Like, treat everyone the exact same.
Starting point is 00:26:41 And she told me that, like, as a young kid and not, like, stuck with Miley forever. And Miley's just like that, like talks to me with all my assistants' names. Like, you know, she's just – I think that's really important. She's looking good. Good right now. She's like – Did you do that wedding color, the wedding hair color? Yeah, so I've done Miley's hair for a really long time.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Did you do Wrecking Ball Miley? Yeah, when it was all bleached and all that kind of stuff. So we've grown it out. We've gotten it to a really healthy place. It's beautiful. It looks good. I'm really proud of her right now. She's the best she's ever looked.
Starting point is 00:27:06 She looks so good. And happy. And happy and fulfilled. Like you can tell behind your eyes you're like you're the person you want to be. You know when Katy Perry cut her hair off and she was like, this is who I want to be now. And I was like, I'm not sure. She wants to be Miley. With Miley, like Miley's hair all grown out and her – I was just like, oh, you're exactly where you need to be right now.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Right. I love that because women – it's cool to see it because we've watched her grow up. But there is something that happens in your like later 20s, early 30s where you like really figure out who you're going to be. Totally. And it's so awesome. Totally. It's such a cool thing. um you i'm not talking about just celebrities but in general you hear the weirdest shit because i
Starting point is 00:27:45 know when i go get my hair done it's like when you're like verbal vomit garbage you know like you tell the stories like you know about all the gonorrhea and everything so i want to know what is the craziest story any client has ever told you you don't have to say the name or who it was like from behind the chair that you were like you wish that you could call someone to tell them immediately or that maybe you did um like with someone like i'm cheating on my husband with an alien but like you know whatever it is i really do hear like the craziest things but like nothing stands out to me i think like um nothing really stands out it's such a boring answer but like i can't think of something right off the top of my head are people using you as a therapist too
Starting point is 00:28:23 oh yeah yeah all the time that must be tough it is really i'm trying to do imagine trying to like Like do a craft, like do your craft part of it. That's been part of it. Well, and that's something that a lot of people don't understand. I mean, I'm not trying to compare myself to like a famous artist or something, but imagine if you were like painting a painting and someone was asking you for advice through the whole thing. And I really, I'm obsessed with hair color.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Like no matter what happens in my life, you know, with DP Hugh is my line with my partner Don and we have this brand and we're building it and it's growing really fast. We sell our stuff at Ulta Beauty and Sephora and Nordstrom's and we're growing. no matter what happens with that business i will always do hair color because i love it it's like my passion i'm in my happy place but sometimes when i'm like painting hair and i'm like doing it and someone's just chatting my ear off i'm like you need to know that i'll do much better work if i just kind of focus on it unless it's like a natural kind of a conversation but the thing that drives me crazy and this is just being really honest when there's new clients in my chair
Starting point is 00:29:17 like they'll like they do like an interview process where they're asking me a million questions you know and you're not in that that mode when you're at work you know yeah but like becca the first time becca sat in my chair i mean we were immediate friends it was kind of because becca morgan stewart's a good friend of mine too but you guys have a similar personality and it's like you know when you meet someone it's just like easy conversation that's fun for me and easy i can do hair and just keep chatting but it's like when they like are interviewing you that gets hard what's been the hardest thing for you starting a new business because it is the dream right like you're first you want to do hair then you want to be a celebrity stylist then you want like
Starting point is 00:29:50 vogue to talk about you and then you want your own line like that's the next step and so what has been the challenge because I'd love to compare notes on like us branching out and making Lady Gang and like making our business and your business like scary, right? No, I mean, you guys get it. You guys have your hands in so many different things. And I think that's the hard thing. That's the thing that scared me or scares me the most, because I feel like in order to be really successful at anything, you've really got to put a lot of time into it, right? So for the past three years, I feel like I've been pulled in so many different directions. So just recently, I completely stopped taking clients. I don't do any salon days.
Starting point is 00:30:22 so i just take care of my um celebrity clients to be honest and then i work with a lot of influencers for my brand to help uh promote the brand yeah but i don't do any clients you go to their house now no so i have a private space that i work out of in beverly hills it's really it's a cool house becca's been there it's super private so i can bring all my a-list celebrities in there and uh i don't do any house calls though like chelsea handler reached out she's like oh i need a house call whatever my assistant who's my sister yeah who's like uh justin doesn't do house she's like who the does justin kinky is now but the thing is it's like i just you know you get to a point when you establish it yeah you're gonna do that and you get to a point where people take advantage
Starting point is 00:31:00 of it yeah and then you're spending four hours in traffic when you could be doing hair exactly it's all about time and all that kind of stuff people ask us a lot to like we can get the girls just come to us to podcast and i was like no no no it really comes down to time and it's like it's all about your energy like i am worn the out like i was working seven days a week for sure like house calls salon days building the dpu brand all that kind of stuff and i was like not having fun i wasn't a happy person and just this is the first two weeks i'm not doing the client thing and i feel like i have so much more energy and i love that yeah i feel like that's when you really grow what's your next project um so we have some amazing products coming out in the spring that
Starting point is 00:31:41 i'm the most excited about because it's like my partner and i have been working really uh hard on coming out with these new we basically started with all of our base like our shampoos we have our ACD rinse, like all the kind of standard stuff. What's an ACD rinse? Wait, let me tell you a story. I have psoriasis and I posted on the Lady Gang Facebook group. It's like 25,000 girls in there. And I was like, you guys, what am I supposed to do? Like my scalp is a disaster. I don't want to be on steroid cream. Like 500 girls wrote back the rinse and your scrub. Yeah. So it's an apple cider vinegar based rinse and it cleans your hair without like stripping the good oils out. It doesn't wreck your color. But what we've found is that people
Starting point is 00:32:18 with scalp issues it's completely fixed them you know we sell our products on hsn which also since i was a kid was always a dream of mine to do the home shopping network and now we do it but um but so the thing is i can't really say that i can't make the claim that it's going to fix your scalp issues but we have people tell us that all the time allison hannigan the actress you know the red funny actress like her um daughter she's like it completely fixed her scalp and it's like it's amazing that's what everyone is saying so everyone can use it or just people with scalp issues no Everyone can use it. It's just to clean your hair.
Starting point is 00:32:47 It's like a scrub. It's a scrub. Like a once a week? No, you completely. I want people to replace their shampoo. I haven't shampooed my hair in years. Your hair is so amazing, by the way. I'm like, I want this color.
Starting point is 00:33:00 It's so good. I feel like since we were young, everyone always taught us like wash your hair every day, shampoo it. But it's kind of like if you had your favorite t-shirt and you washed it every day, it would like break down. The color would fade. So I don't get why we all shampoo our hair so much. So the ACV Rinse replaces shampoo.
Starting point is 00:33:13 it cleans your hair without stripping the good stuff out and once you start doing that your scalp will balance itself out and you won't get so greasy and oily like i never have oily hair like i do hot yoga every day and i'll just rinse it with the acv and it's like because your your scalp will take care of itself we start to produce all those oils because we're shampooing it so do you do conditioner after that every time you so when you very first start using it if you have like dry ends put a little bit of conditioner through the ends but the healthier your hair gets like we also really don't need conditioner if you have healthy hair you shouldn't have to gunk a ton of conditioner on it i always i just feel like less is more yeah so the stuff that
Starting point is 00:33:47 i'm excited about we have like really cool now like uh innovative products that are coming out in the spring stuff that i'm really really excited about my really good friend kristin cavallari and i uh created this product that i can't wait to share with everybody and i've known kristin since she was a baby she was one of my very first like celebrity clients you know after laguna beach yeah and so i've been with her through everything and um but we created this product together it's a blonde product. And I'm so excited about it. And we're, we talk about on the show and that's part of it. And then when the show airs is when the product will launch. So I'm really excited about that. Okay. Before we run out of time, what is one thing that you wish you could tell all of
Starting point is 00:34:25 our listeners? I mean, I know everyone's head is different, but like, if you could say one thing to the girls, like, here's my advice to you from me to your head. And like, there's a lot of girls let me preface this with saying like living in places that are not los angeles they don't have access to like a u a sephora uh or like even like super expensive products oh no i am so i don't think that you need a ton of money to look beautiful i don't think that you yeah yeah i don't think you need to be in la or new york and i think the most amazing thing about social media nowadays is i travel a lot because all of our products are in all ulta beauty stores so i go and visit some of the ulta beauty stores across the country and i can tell you that like now in
Starting point is 00:35:04 airports and like wherever i am like there's pretty hair and i really think that it's happening because of instagram like girls are on instagram and they're seeing like pretty like remember like years ago like probably like 12 years ago you'd go to different cities and there'd be like those chunky kelly highlights how do these girls not know any better they don't know they don't know any better but now because of instagram like people have pretty hair everywhere so the one thing that i can say i feel like when you see really bad hair in a lot of places especially like in la where there's a lot of good hair colors it's usually the client's fault like people are saying like i want more of this or i want to be blonder i want to be blonder and all of a sudden
Starting point is 00:35:36 this girl has like this crazy blonde hair you're like how does she not know that looks terrible well she's telling her hairdresser to do it so much so if you find somebody whose work you love and you end up in their chair listen to them like if they're saying like girl like because the first time you get highlights it's like an addiction and you're like i want to go blonder i want to go blonder i want to go blonder and it's not necessarily the best look for you so like listen to a professional i like that advice okay when we come back justin's gonna fix your life because He just fixed your hair. Hey, ladies!
Starting point is 00:36:06 Get funky. Ask the Lady Gang. And we're back. You ready to give some life advice? Yes. We have our listeners writing questions. We'll call this Ask the Lady Gang Behind the Chair. Behind the Chair.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Okay. First question was from, what was her name? Taylor? Yes, Taylor. Taylor says, I have a career dilemma. I just accepted a job as an assistant to an entertainment and arts producer. This is the first job I've ever really had that is truly in the field that I want to be in and I'm getting closer to my dream job. But recently I was asked to come in for an interview
Starting point is 00:36:35 for a position and communications with my city's mayor. I'm not sure if I have the job yet, but if I do get it, I'm not sure what to do. This job with the mayor's office would be a better title for way more money, but I don't know if it's something that I really want to do. My family is pushing me to really take this job because of the money. I don't want to give up my current job and burn bridges with my employer, especially since it's a field that I've been dreaming about for years do i choose money over my passion does it say how old she is or not 26 choose the money 26 i say chase the dreams i feel like we i just i feel like even like in relationships if you're not happy move on if you know what you really really want like wait for it to happen we get
Starting point is 00:37:18 one life i really really believe in that um i think it's really hitting home for real what part no it's just so true we have one life like stop sitting around like compromising i feel like we do it every day i feel like everyone does i work with so many women and you know since i was a kid i've been obsessed with i just love women i love being around lots of women you know i love powerful women i like when women make decisions for themselves nothing makes me more sad than i if a woman's sitting in my chair and she like hates her life or she hates her husband or she hates her job and it's like we all hate our husband yeah you don't have to though i know you're kidding but i feel like it's just that thing like especially now like we're in this
Starting point is 00:37:56 time where it's like we get to be happy like you really can there's lots of options there's so many options you know you can be an influencer tomorrow just buy some followers and you're no the influencer thing kills me no please stop in please stop being an influencer that's the one thing i want to go away more than anything in the world if it comes to you you can be an influencer if you're chasing influencer life it's not good the amount of interns we have that are like oh i'm like you're studying communications you want to be a journalist like me or whatever and they're like oh i just i really want to be a youtuber but can't do that no i told you yourself for career day and like elementary schools they had to tell parents to not let
Starting point is 00:38:39 their kids say that they want to be youtubers like that's how bad it is but you just said something that kind of if like if it comes to you that it's like yeah you shouldn't have to try so hard to be an influencer you know what i mean and it's like and it's like it's killing instagram for me i watch this stuff and i'm just like oh my god like i can't handle it you know it's such you're the person to follow if you fucking love instagram but you can't stop yeah because at the same time because at the same time i love instagram so i don't want everyone to ruin it for me i'm like can everyone stop like when people say things like doing their social media breaks and stuff i'm like do your social media break and don't talk about it it's fun because the rest of us
Starting point is 00:39:15 I didn't notice you went away. I didn't notice. I wasn't missing you. I already unfollowed you. The thing that's so bad, too, if you're looking at Instagram and it's putting you in a bad mood, it's like because you're comparing your life to other people. It's like, I feel like my parents, that's one thing they did really well with me and my siblings is like, don't be jealous of other people.
Starting point is 00:39:33 You know what I mean? Just focus on yourself. But those people who look at Instagram are like, I want that body. Why don't I have that house? It's like, then go out and work for it, you know, or appreciate what you got. Get your ass off Instagram. Or don't and accept what you got. just accept what you got
Starting point is 00:39:44 and stop following them it's so easy but don't take a break and tell us all so that we have to comment like don't go please and like why
Starting point is 00:39:51 what happened it's like bitch stop nobody died like it's fine I kind of want you to like spend some amount of time
Starting point is 00:39:59 I don't know what's appropriate yet but like doing these things like just everything that's so awful about Instagram I want you to do it
Starting point is 00:40:08 like what oh my gosh like I'm gonna take a break or like but then be like at like 3 in the morning couldn't help myself and he like
Starting point is 00:40:14 posts a story from in bed yeah well and the other thing that I hate that when people like tease things you know what I mean I'm like
Starting point is 00:40:20 we hate it we hate it Justin we hate it it drives me working on something super exciting can't wait to tell you guys
Starting point is 00:40:28 it's like no one cares it's never done yeah I'll have like a cousin that has like a thousand followers a thousand followers is great
Starting point is 00:40:35 followers don't mean anything in the game of life but like when they have like a small following and they're like you're literally just talking to mom yeah i can't it's like call mom and tell her no you're talking to your mom and three bots
Starting point is 00:40:46 but what is that there's nothing worth like it's narcissism that's all it is instagram is narcissism dude we had our own it really is these three nobodies had our own first season of a television show and we made it through without being like filming something special today can't wait to show you we barely even posted about it when it was on we can do it like you guys there's a show tonight does anybody want to post about it we're like does anybody care the thing that bums me out about that though is like there are times where it's like is that gonna affect people like us who like we should be putting stuff out like that you know but it's like when it's happening but hey guys turn on your tv i'm on it right now but not like the problem is it's like when you're
Starting point is 00:41:28 teasing shit and you're doing this and this and that then when something important happens it's watered down because it's being watered down by everybody else's stuff so what you're saying is when the new dp hue product comes out for blondes that i'm like now really excited about because i'll be back blonde by then um are you not going to do like four days three days two days and it's just kristin with like ponytail yeah oh my god one it's happening okay next question we're running out of time okay second question where is it oh this one's bad subject no i'm not going to say subject she just says i've been in a wonderful relationship for almost two years he's super into fitness and his health at the start of our relationship that wasn't my priority
Starting point is 00:42:11 but about eight years into our relationship i'm i said i'm going to make some lifestyle changes unrelated to him or our relationship but for myself i joined weight watchers and over the next 10 months i lost 40 pounds good job but i have plateaued and haven't lost any weight in the last four months my boyfriend says that i look good but that i would look better if i lost some more weight obviously i wish i could lose more but i want to focus on self-acceptance and being proud of myself what do i do go yourself yeah no because that only gets she said it was a new relationship right no no they've been together like over eight years no two years two years oh but eight years ago she started no eight months ago eight months ago she started
Starting point is 00:42:54 into our relationship she was making lifestyle changes but my thing is like if he's saying that stuff now it's gonna get worse imagine 10 years into the baby and if she starts listening to him and like going to him for validation it's gonna keep going like you'd look better if you got a nose job and a boob job and this he's that guy that i caught at flywheel who just moseyed on in from largemont off the street and he's in like street clothes and i'm standing there like getting ready to go to class and he's like so um how is this for snapbacks and the instructor's like excuse me he's like my wife she's pregnant is this is this the best place for a snapback to get her body back and i was like oh my god oh i thought you meant like a snapback
Starting point is 00:43:31 around town trying to find the best way for his wife to get her snapback wow there's nothing more disgusting than a man that cares cares about a woman's body guys in my like women will sit my channel like my husband says that i should be a little bit blonde i'm like your husband's a homo like if he's talking about your blonde hair like first of all but the thing is i'm like i really i like i genuinely love my boyfriend so much like i mean the first time in my life i'm in a relationship where i really really really love him and believe me i'm not like all like pollyanna about relationships like i would talk shit about him but they're really good i would never say something that would like maybe put something
Starting point is 00:44:08 into his head that like something was off about him you know what i mean and it's like that well he's also perfect he's really pretty actually he's like perfect specimen to people and furthermore when you really love someone you actually lie to them yeah do you know what i mean when you really love someone you're like my husband is so tall he's like six five and he can gain and lose 15 pounds in a day i swear to god like we'll go on vacation and he's not eating as much or like we're doing something and he'll literally lose 10 pounds but he's like that's his thing he like really hates it about himself and he'll be like do you think i've lost weight and like sometimes i mean i don't even fucking know at this point but like i would never be like yeah yeah like even if i thought he
Starting point is 00:44:48 did i wasn't gonna say yeah you're looking so skinny right now because i know that's like a sore spot for him just like when i'm like do i look bloated i don't want you to answer guys and girls need to realize that that's the one thing that more girls need to realize because clients will say it to me all the time like because i have such a problem with that but like girls are coming they're like you're so skinny what happened i'm like that's so rude I don't want to be strong or whatever. So it's just like, and I know they don't mean any harm by it, but bottom line, I mean, going back to that, it's just like, be careful with your words.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Everyone's sensitive. Yeah, exactly. Dick. Okay. Last question says, it's from reality. Reality star wants my man. She says my boyfriend of almost a year has a very close friend. That's a girl by close.
Starting point is 00:45:34 I mean, they do the following go out for dinner. she visits him at his work and they text about they text constantly non-stop about everything including our relationship which i'm not okay with because of my suspicions i've read his phone and i found nothing but i do think that the way that they chat so often is unusual and their nicknames make me feel uncomfortable aka baby and boo this girl is also a reality tv star z lister who has a reputation of sleeping around and gets papped with him my friends ask questions and wonder why they hang out so much and I feel like it makes me look stupid. I've told him I'm cool with him hanging out, but there are boundaries and I hate having to always explain the relationship to my
Starting point is 00:46:12 friends and family. I've recently read his phone again and found out she's been complaining about me to him because she feels, quote, awkward around me. And he did not defend me at all and instead said, I don't know what to do. You're both my friends. Friends, I had the impression that we were madly in love as he always talks about the future and marrying me. He is truly a decent guy that treats me like a princess and I trust him a thousand percent. My questions are, how do I bring it up? What I found on his phone without him knowing I've read his phone
Starting point is 00:46:38 and what do I do about this thirsty Z-lister who is obsessed with him? A, if she's on the Z-list, she's not accidentally getting paparazzi'd because I'm on the W-list and I have to call those bitches myself. Okay? So she's not accidentally getting... Second of all, this doesn't sound like a guy that's madly in love
