Webby Award. And the fun part about this is that we didn't even nominate ourselves. Podcast One, our podcast company, they nominated us because I would never nominate myself because I feel like then I would just be disappointed when I didn't get the nomination.
Starting point is 00:01:16 But here's what's cool is we didn't even know we were up for it. And then we got the email from them and they're like, you're nominated. We're so excited about this. This is a big deal. This is like the Oscars of the internet, you guys. And you guys can vote. go over to our instagram or our website there's a link to vote on the webbies page you just search lady gang our category pops right up it takes two minutes you enter your email address it's so easy

Starting point is 00:02:19 It's so offensive to me that when I'm with my dog, Callie, if I'm the last person on earth, she will hang out with me. If there's anyone else in the room, Chris Knight, Jack Vanek, she will be with them. I'm like, come here, Callie, come here. And she's like, no, I'm good right here. I don't even want her. That's why she comes to me. What's it called? The sexual indifference?
Starting point is 00:02:47 It's sexy and different. Sexy and different. Callie. She was sexy. No, it's like my mom hates animals, and every animal is obsessed with my mom. Yeah. She's like, please don't come to me. And they're like, they know.
Starting point is 00:02:58 They're like, I'm going to convince you to love me. And I'm like, I don't really want your tongue on me, but that's fine, I guess. Says the girl that would literally make out with a frog. Callie, her snout's not smushed enough for me to like. Yeah, she's not even that cute. No, she's cute. You're sweet. Callie's a sweet girl.
Starting point is 00:03:19 She is a sweet girl. It's because she gets you all the time. She wants fresh blood. But I'll be watching TV on the couch alone, and I'll be like, oh, yeah. And she'll be all snuggled up, and she'll be like, eh, eh. And then Chris will come home, and she'll be like, bye. And she'll go sit on him. I'm like, what the?
Starting point is 00:03:33 I'm the last choice. And that's fine. And I've always been the last choice for everyone, for all things. I don't know how you guys got stuck with me. Oh, I chose you. Yeah, that's true. You forced us into this. OK.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Well, on that note, it's time for... good week yes it is bad week oh no who would like to kick i'll start okay guys don't go usually someone is like excited i'm excited i'm excited i'll go no i'm gonna go okay go ahead i just want you guys to know that the hairstyle of the year is the bob that you started the italian bob oh no isn't it the french girl bob that's like up to your chin no it's the italian bob which is so when you cut hair short a lot of people will cut it and they will thin it out at the bottom because they don't want like a lot of volume at the bottom yeah because when you do just a blunt cut like you get bushiness at the bottom but i specifically even before i knew this
Starting point is 00:04:30 was a thing you guys before i even for vogue even did it i just was like i am so sick of that like thin situation the bob i was like i need something different and so i said i said i literally want it to look like anybody can cut my hair like the most blunt why you should have let me cut your hair because i could have given it you a blunt are you want me to cut it i could have given you a blunt haircut no no it's getting a little long no it's getting long are you going are you growing it out no i'm not growing it out it's because i scheduled a haircut and then it was like the birthday party of ford's life and then all the family was coming in town and i was like i can't deal with this and then for like auditioning and pilot season i was just like i
Starting point is 00:05:13 i can't i can't get a bad haircut yeah so growing it out is better than not growing it out but like having a longer bob is way better than a short bad bob um so i just have the haircut of the year and i probably started it i know that there's no way of tracing this back but it's it is what it is i mean i think that you you're calling really is the law but like what yeah this is like a youth thing because whenever you do it then it does become a thing hailey bieber hello you trailblaze it but hers is short hers is very short but that's not the one they're saying is the thing yeah theirs is like um i think they're getting it from white lotus because the actress she was beautiful with that played the sex worker yeah um was a blunt bob with the bushiness at the bottom
Starting point is 00:05:59 yeah yeah yeah and so it's like the italian bob oh okay but i just you know um actually i do feel like we received some dms to the lady gang instagram account that were like when hayley cut her hair becca must be so mad no i was like yeah it's just obviously i'm on trending trends again the minute my hair gets long but that tiktok of the girl that they show she shows hayley bieber like and looking beautiful with her bob and then she's like don't do it don't do it Like, it was so great. Because you're going to look like Lord Farquaad. So true.
Starting point is 00:06:34 No, it's true. Depending on the day. You've got to have a good face. You've got to have a good face. I've got the face for big hair. I've got the face for long hair only. We all have faces for radio. So then my bad week is that I don't know if I talked about this before, but there's a guy who I use that drives me to the airport sometimes in Austin.
Starting point is 00:06:56 because ubers are not like you know available they're they're there they're just not quite as you know what's the word i'm looking for easy to get available i have a headache from my plane flight so ready to anyways ready to pick you up ready for higher descriptive anyways more descriptive than ready to pick you up no like more um available flourishing anyways so abundant is the word you're looking for wow thank you got the vocab word thank god so i've been using this guy and he's great he's definitely younger than me probably 20s and i every time i get in his car there's like cool music playing you know something the kids are listening to gen z yeah but then as soon as i get settled in he turns it to the blend
Starting point is 00:07:51 oh no which is like because he thinks you're old and you want the blend you want the blend is like just the oldies which is like now the 90s and you had a long day yes yeah it's like the 90s that's like 2000s james blunt yeah it's you're beautiful but then it does go into some yacht rock and listen i love yacht rock i will never turn down i hate it yacht rock music like country no it's like okay so what era would you say this was like 70s 80s jerry's here kenny loggins oh like the best um song ever i want to know what love is no that's like 80s rock era i want to know what love is no mine is come on little baby what you do gloria gloria oh that's what you know what i mean it's if you were cocaine in
Starting point is 00:08:43 the 80s on a yacht yes and it's like the greatest music so i am i'm this is why he turns on the blend but anyways wow i'm just like i like kygo like this song he just just switches it and it's james blunt wow that is offensive isn't it upsetting yeah i would be like wow you're right but i know i know that sucks that the oldies are the newies james blunt yeah yeah we didn't make anything better than james one i know no we did we had to have boy bands but they don't play enough they i'm never mad at backstreet boys no but it's like they're not playing enough s club seven oh my god they're coming back i know i'm so excited can you just name an s club seven song because i don't i know you know them but i don't know them i don't know but you do okay i um my good week did
Starting point is 00:09:35 happen at the no this is my bad week my bad week happened at the jones brothers concert last month but I had it on my list and I haven't had a chance to talk about it yet but since Lance is here and we're going to talk about concerts I'm going to tell you
Starting point is 00:09:45 what I saw that was so f***ing revolting so I'm on the ground level not in the pit but like in the fold out seats and I'm enjoying the concert and Chris and I start looking at each other
Starting point is 00:09:56 and we look down and someone has spilt a drink in front they spilt the beer and I'm like oh it sucks to spill the beer you know what I mean and I'm like oh yeah
Starting point is 00:10:04 and they're like kind of fussing and the mop comes out and I'm like great and I look down no The woman is standing in the spilt beer in a sock. Wait, what? Just in her sock.
Starting point is 00:10:17 With no shoe? And there's no shoes to be found. Like, the shoes, like, normally you'd be like, the shoes would be, maybe you put them on your chair. Maybe you spilt the beer on your shoe and you're drying out the shoe. Maybe the shoe has been flung off your foot. Maybe you're just so uncomfortable in your shoe. you've put it under your seat i investigated because she keeps looking me sorry callie callie come here callie callie come here you get what you asked for come here come here you can look
Starting point is 00:10:50 actually it's just hatred you know what you were cold she's so warm she's like a little warm sure her like what tongue was on my leg you literally idolize a dog whose tongue can't get in its mouth is dry oh my god anyway socks on the bare floor at mgm park mgm that hotel in the beer sticky sticky sticky situation for everyone involved yeah that's gross next good week i finally what's the most savage thing you've ever done a night out like after like while drinking because everybody's done something disgusting that they would never have done sober right right it's like i'm barefoot in vegas in the casino like without the heels it's like gross like that kind of thing i've done lots of those yeah i'll just sit bare back on a toilet
Starting point is 00:11:42 a public toilet when i'm drunk oh yeah i mean i do that normally so well if it's a nice establishment i will yeah but not like disgusting places that i put my butt down on i've done that many times yeah well okay my good week is that i finally got um a special deal with diet coke and it it was like it was like people were like yes you finally made it yeah like three emmys and one new york times best-selling book and one pretty good selling book like and it was like i had done nothing in my life until diet coke sponsored me but it's true it's the same like adoration that i got when i got my mcdonald's deal yeah like it's like the people know that this is like your it aligns with you so much and you care so much like that is like the epitome of making it you're
Starting point is 00:12:28 getting paid for promoting something you already really really love i've literally spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in my 20-year love of diet coke yeah diet coke anyway the coolest part was i felt like that about capital one because i just love spending money and using credit cards yeah exactly i'm just so excited i bought my wedding dress on my capital one card you're so smart all of those i did my entire renovation i made them charge me more money so i could put on my capital wrong card so i could make the points yeah it's true and i have um i have this girl that books my flights called miles genie sorry i'm totally drilling your conversation i'm done it was just diet coke she's an icon she's like uh she's like the points guy but like the points
Starting point is 00:13:07 guy's busy so she does charge you a commission she like 150 bucks or something to like book all of your flights and she like will do the thing where she tracks everything to make sure you're getting the best but anyways i asked her i was like what's the best card to put all these big wedding purchases on she said capital one by the way your x card we need you to sponsor us okay stop talking about don't take my sponsorship okay guys let me have something that's my own it kicks but i'm spending a lot of money on it too so me too when we were you know what i hope i hope they're paying you big bucks because you influence both of us and now we're influencing other people i actually did get you both to do the adventure x i know yeah yeah well i'm doing
Starting point is 00:13:41 my part influential oh jack okay so my good week is more wedding shit i'm just we're gonna be doing get fatigued from it it's i can't get people love a wedding okay people love a wedding um so for my good week thanks to becca tobin and her intro to brit roar from swell press oh i did my save the dates they are done well as when this is like actually being put out they will be had by all of the guests yeah cool um and it was so fun because she swell presses her brand she does everything like by old school printing press so she had invited me like when we were talking about it she's like you can even come like print them i'm in redondo beach you can come see the did you use them yeah yeah my invitations yeah so you guys know each other from atlanta right uh-huh yeah so
Starting point is 00:14:31 when i was asking of course beckham and zach were both like swell press did we both send you that yeah and I was like I don't know why I didn't think of that because she did our lady gang book designed it with me and she did the stuff for the nurses during COVID yes oh right so it only made sense um but she was amazing and we're like the best creative team because she is so good at the things that I'm not so basically I hand drew everything to go on the save the dates but I'm like I don't know how to lay it out I'm like it sucks it looks so stupid like my own drawings are so dumb and she's like this is amazing give it to me and like i'll put it all together and i'm obsessed with them like she did you should do a jack vanek swell press collab that'd be so fun
Starting point is 00:15:14 yeah that'd be so cool yeah like i don't we work really well together i just like love it but so we went down there and we got jared went my parents went of course and we all um sexy mature he knows what he signed up for um but we got a princess He's like, this is literally in a thruple. This is so romantic. He's literally in a thruple with your parents. He really is. It's so f***ing weird.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Anyways. It's a bummer your mom hates animals, because they could really use a dog right now. I know. They really could. Oh, my God. They really could. Maybe adopt a grown-up. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I told her. Anyways, we went down there, and we got, like, she uses all these old vintage printing presses. So cool. So cool. like you can't just buy a new one so they're so cool so like i printed them all myself and i have this whole thing i made a tiktok about it but it was just really fun and it was another thing that i obsessed about kelty's like don't even do a saves the date just do a web website everybody's gonna throw them out i know everybody's gonna throw them out but i did it for me she's the
Starting point is 00:16:19 aesthetic queen i like i don't know i enjoyed the process i like i had such a good time the people you're because your wedding is so small the people that are getting your save the dates are people that actually really do love you and care about you and they won't be like like every christmas card that i get where i'm like cool i met you twice yeah that's true they'll be like this is great this is and you made it so i think people will be more likely to keep it yeah it looks like a little piece of yeah kind of cool anyway so that's my good week brit's amazing um my bad week is so i'm trying to do a lot of ear piercings before my wedding i'm like making trying to be a kelty i'm trying to i am doing a kelty thing like i'm doing i'm making a party ear like with
Starting point is 00:16:56 all the fun piercings and i've been starting to stack this year but then this year has been sad so i'm like i'm gonna get two piercings on this year this year is my sleeping year and i'm not used don't you have the whole pillow well i have a whole pillow and now i've bought a second whole pillow oh my god so my bed is only whole pillow why can't you just flip over because i need this one for this year because now i'm so used to your ear i can't your hair is covering it and that's what you're you're done no i'm doing like two more piercings on that ear but i can i just devil's advocate this that i'm gonna look like a teenager well this is very trendy remember we all had our belly buttons pierced when we were 16 and we were the hottest people yeah i do okay
Starting point is 00:17:40 and i was like do i need my belly button piercing i just i've been debating it don't please god please god listen do what you got to do don't get mad at me that i'm getting mad at your belly button piercing your turquoise pedicure you everyone but i just want to say that dress is so beautiful and so expensive i'm not saying piercings don't appear to be expensive no i know but they don't no but i'm gonna do like a dainty a dainty thing this is also you wouldn't be able to see it my nose would be down oh okay all right all right i'm just saying in general it's like it's it's i don't know why i'm doing it trendy yeah it's trendy which i think when i know we said do what you like to do in the time and don't care about the trend but that's like
Starting point is 00:18:25 body i don't know i'm being a mom i'm being such a mom you're being a mom yeah i mean for me i would like to draw attention away from my waddle and so i'm like look up the reason why i'm doing it is i hate wearing jewelry and i hate like getting myself put together and i'm like you're always having like a fun ear i'm like for some reason your ears are never showing but it is true you'd never wear your hair that's true i've never seen your ear i don't even know if honestly if i was on my deathbed and they're like you can stay alive if you can draw jack vanek's ear like does she have small medium or large ears i wouldn't even know i've never seen him you know what known you for seven years like a nipple piercing so whatever
Starting point is 00:19:06 do what you want to do i mean i've learned a lot today so much so many lessons okay i was doing it for me anyways my bad week i keep getting infected yeah yeah because we're not supposed to pierce the cartilage of our ears because it will never lobe and it's still infected your ears are like stop you have to look classy well now i have all the whole pillows and jared hates the whole pillow because i talk about it all the time and he's like shut the up about the whole pillow i just i'm like i have my travel whole pillow oh i'm confused why you need two like are you putting it like so you're like oh well now the one on my left it's become part of my OCD like nighttime routine that I have to have it but you can't just flip and use it on the right
Starting point is 00:19:52 no because I got to be able to easily move back and oh my god someone help her help me oh my god when we come back great things when it comes to shopping for clothing I feel like I always have to compromise it's either fast fashion which is really not the best quality or super expensive and I feel guilty for spending that kind of money. I am obsessed with our new sponsor, Quince. They have elevated my closet with the most beautiful basics, but for like a fraction of what they should normally cost. High quality, timeless pieces. I can't wait for you to try it. Use our code Lady Gang for 15% off. Now back to the Lady Gang. our guest today is making all of our teenage dreams come true as a former member of the multi-platinum boy band NSYNC with chart-topping singles that you still know every word to like I want you back bye bye bye pop and it's coming up soon it's gonna be me the band has sold over 50 million records worldwide and their album No Strings Attached is still to the day to this day the fastest selling record of all time he's performed on some of the biggest stages in the entire world like the super bowl and the olympics and has recorded with some of the biggest artists
Starting point is 00:22:54 in the world like elton john stevie wonder and brady spears but this man is so much more than just the band he's also an actor a producer a writer a radio host a voice actor now and is even trained by nasa to go to space please welcome to the show our good friend lance bass what an introduction can i uh can i get a copy of that because i'm gonna just take that everywhere you should that makes me sound way cooler than i am oh you're the coolest i didn't realize you guys did the super bowl oh yeah it was one of the best days of my life because one huge football fan uh and then two i got to do the halftime show with my favorite band in the world aerosmith oh my god yes yeah it was it was wait i gotta look up what you were wearing hold on
Starting point is 00:23:36 i gotta look at what the outfit i'm sure it was really really nice stuff yeah because because we were we were known for our fashion yeah well everybody was back in the day oh yeah no you guys look so cute wait what year was the super bowl that you guys played 2001 okay like the most iconic it was like that it was really iconic but the other thing i'll say okay lance you are wearing let me see you here i probably was trying to do like aerosol no you actually you know what the year you actually it holds up it holds up really right now it holds up hold on it's only like a little half the picture can you oh yeah that's not bad he's wearing a brown pant he's wearing a leather jacket with the denim with leather sleeves that has like a ton of pins on
Starting point is 00:24:19 it honestly we're wearing this right now that that has come full circle i believe so i guess i am fashion forward now this is amazing did you keep any clothing from my first question uh we did actually um god i don't know how many years ago we had this big in-sync warehouse that we would store props from tours and all of our wardrobe for you know 10 years and then we finally were like guys since we're not really making music anymore should we like clear this out and not have to pay a monthly rental every every month oh my god so we all went there and we all just kind of picked different sets from different tours and uh even like mechanical bulls and weird stuff like that uh but yeah so i have i have tons of stuff my mom has tons of stuff
Starting point is 00:25:00 because i sent most of it to her i'm like put this in your attic please what did you guys do with all the stuff you didn't want um i don't know we probably we a lot of stuff goes to like auction and that type of stuff or not auction but like a charity auction right they still do charity stuff yeah yeah and we said we have tons of that so we get to give to charity and then of course hard rock has a lot of them uh which i love because you know they're taken care of and basically it's part of the museum for the rest of history it's so cool i saw a pair of a gold silver wide leg cargo jeans on net-a-porter last week and they were about two thousand dollars and And I feel like you may have some of those from the original time you wore them.
Starting point is 00:25:41 I'm sure I do. I mean, it's a treasure trove of just amazing things. I'm telling you, I need to do a reality show where we go, like an HGTV show where we go into all of our mom's closets and attics and just find all the crap that we've been saving. That is great. It's such a good idea. You could go to every boy band or every pop star, every like anything. That's so, so good.
Starting point is 00:26:05 And that's all at our mom's houses. it's satisfying. And that show can also be called Prostate Tips. It just works. The title works for everything. This is what I'm saying. I'm, first of all, I'm so excited about this new podcast. And I remember coming to see you when you had a serious radio show, like you've been doing radio for a long time. Um, and you have such a great voice for it, but I think such an interesting, there's just something about you, Lance, where it's like, you don't take yourself too seriously. and i just love that and you're like i'm here i'm here to have a good time i'm on this earth like here we go and so where did the idea like when were you laying in bed and you're like i need
Starting point is 00:26:42 to do a podcast called frosted tips and i'm gonna invite all the old 90s like guys from lmf or not lamfo lfo and jc's on and all these different people like how did you get this idea yeah i've always wanted to name something frosted tips you know i produce tv and film and radio all the time And I'm like, gosh, such a good name. It's something I'm so known for, but I don't know what to do with it. So my original idea was going to be me and Nick Carter. We're going to do a show together where we give unsolicited life advice, especially to parents from two boy banders. Oh, I love it.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Yeah. But then he got a little busy with the Backstreet Boy tours, so he wasn't able to do it. And so I heart came to me. They're like, we'd love to do a podcast. Do you have any ideas? I'm like, well, I want to use Frosted Tips. Yeah. and then they came yeah they came up with the idea of doing a teen idol show of catching up
Starting point is 00:27:32 with all your favorite teen idols from all these different decades um and i jumped at the chance i thought that would be so much fun and it has been such a blast you know you're so beloved that like anything you do i think our reaction is like that's the best idea ever you're like giving advice to mom like yes yes for awesome tips yes like it's just it's well i thought it'd be such a niche thing i'm like how many people out there really want to like everyone so many apparently they do yeah everyone and it's just nice and it's a positive show there's nothing nothing negative so it's nice to escape for an hour and pretend you're a teenager again is it so weird to sit with um like i know you had joey on um you had jc on like is it weird to sit with these guys that you
Starting point is 00:28:18 have spent more hours than anyone should spend with other people and like rehash like you there i'm sure there were times where you were like if i see this man one more time i'm gonna throw him in a dumpster like it's kind of like we went on tour for two weeks and we felt that way so like is it weird to sit back down with them and be like later like and reminisce yeah you're like this is a reason we don't share a bus anymore no it's it's been really fun the funny thing is that the story's trying to line up because we all have our own memories of things right and then as time goes on you start like kind of changing those memories into what you thought it was so yeah comparing stories has been really funny because i'll say one thing they're like no that's
Starting point is 00:29:01 not how that happened like what are you talking about uh so yeah trying to get the truth is has been very interesting but also a lot of these bands i never really got to know or talk with because you know we were pit against each other yeah uh so really comparing war stories with them has been very interesting because there's so many similarities that we all went through from fan stories to different shows that we experienced the same exact thing uh it's it's yeah the similarities are very uncanny i thought it was really great you did a two-part with aj for the backstreet boys who we had on our television show and also has been on the podcast and we actually flew out to vegas to see him in the show and we're you know we're psychopaths we have a real thing for
Starting point is 00:29:44 aj and i thought it was so interesting because like obviously we knew like as children of the 80s and 90s that it was like you had to choose if you were a baxter and n-sync but like i thought that was kind of all just like on the playground it was really interesting to find out that it was it was really behind the scenes and like it was your like your fight to fight if if you will right Yeah, no, it kept us on our toes. You know, we were, I don't even know if it was purposely pit against each other, because I really don't think Lou Pearlman was that brilliant. But the way that it worked out, it really kept us getting better and better,
Starting point is 00:30:23 both groups having that competition. And it became a friendly rivalry, which we all accepted and kind of ran with. You know, now, of course, these days, we're all really good friends. I mean, AJ is one of my besties, and me and my kid, Alexander James. so we're we're connected uh but yeah it's it's uh it's fun to be able to discuss that now but back in the day it was a little contentious i have to say you know we'd be at award shows like oh can't speak to them oh they they hate us um but we always had anyone actually hate each other or telling not that i know that the problem is we you know since we were the second group
Starting point is 00:31:02 they were definitely more pissed at us than we were at them and i would understand that because if my manager and my record label you know signed another band you know it was very similar i'd be like what the hell are y'all doing so yeah i would definitely be pissed so yeah i think i think the hate was definitely more than coming towards us uh and especially management so we just kind of sat back and like i don't know what to do when is your scripted series coming that's based loosely based on these events yeah if someone's going to produce this it's got to be you oh yeah well it's coming uh it's uh we've been working on it for wow since covid um it's going through a little bit of development hell uh but it's gonna be great we had to rewrite the whole entire series
Starting point is 00:31:46 um because it first started out a little too dark yeah um it was uh the writers of narcos um so it's like gonna be like really you know dark and gritty and there was a whole mafia part of Lou that I didn't even know about I'm like wow this is I'm kind of getting scared to like yeah uncover some of these things uh so now uh the network's been like you know what we need a little more light hearted a little more humor in this so we went back to the drawing board have a new writer who is incredible and uh so hopefully that'll be written soon and we'll be filming at the end of the year and so the actor playing lou perlman is amazing and i cannot wait to announce it i literally just said that not even knowing that this wasn't this was in the works oh yeah oh i
Starting point is 00:32:29 thought you knew there was a show in the works i didn't know this oh yeah wait so do you have is it all cast um no it is not all cast we just cast the the lead and uh once the script's done then we'll start yeah picking out because it's gonna be awesome is actually like backstreet boys and in sync or is it just like two boys bands it's the whole lou perlman story so from birth to death um and so yeah you'll you'll get sprinkled in every single band he worked with uh but there was there was a lot of different schemes that he was doing you know it wasn't just the whole music thing where he was taking advantage of musicians he was using the money he would make from musicians to do all these other like crazy ponzi schemes this is awesome
Starting point is 00:33:11 I have a question for you. You get to like reminisce a lot now that you're doing this podcast cast and just over the years, like, is there anything you would have done differently? Like if you could have just gone back, talked to little Lance, like any big or small thing. Yeah. There's a lot of things. I'm not one of those people that like, Oh, I wouldn't change a thing. I'd change all kinds of stuff if I knew. uh heck yeah well one i mean obviously i would come out immediately uh and i wouldn't i just would i would tell that little last like don't be scared no one's gonna care some people will care but screw them uh but i would have loved to have been able to be myself during that crazy
Starting point is 00:33:54 nsync run because it was just uh i wasn't myself you know i look at interviews with nsync and i'm like who is that guy well they're probably like do you guys have girlfriends and you're just like no that'd be i'd be i was the shower and so i'd be like yeah i would just mumble every interview is just like me mumbling because i didn't want people to like hear me or have any kind of emotion in my voice um so yeah so i i basically just shut up the whole run because i did not want anyone to figure it out yeah and then the other thing i would do is you know make sure that we all got more rest because we we just got burnt out you know we were always told you have to do this you have to do this out of sight, out of mind. You can't have a day off. So I would definitely force
Starting point is 00:34:36 ourselves to take some days off so we wouldn't burn out so quickly. I wonder though, if like you turned out so normal and grounded because you were almost playing a part as Lance and it wasn't Lance and you weren't actually being vulnerable. And that's when I think artists get in the most trouble. They're like trying to be genuine and authentic and they think it's going to be accepted with like open arms and love no matter what their situation is and you get destroyed because when you're at the top it's just people just want to drag you down and tear you through the mud like i wonder if you were like acting the role of lance and that's why you as lance the real person didn't get up from that experience oh that's a good look at it for
Starting point is 00:35:18 sure because i was playing a character like my whole i was a plan not only in public but i was playing this character in real life to my family to everyone uh even as a little kid i was playing a character because i knew who i really was but i they wanted to see this certain person yeah so yeah that that's very interesting but i think another thing that kept me down to earth and the other guys was that we were a group you know solo artists really it would be hard uh you know michael jackson britney spears we call it the michael jackson syndrome where if you're always told yes yes yes yes yes reality just goes away especially when you're a kid um so you don't know what the truth is uh with a group you know you say something stupid you're gonna get slapped
Starting point is 00:36:01 across the face be like excuse me what did you say yeah uh sorry you know and we had great family around us so it really you know it kept us down to earth humble and uh like you said before we didn't really take ourselves too seriously we just we just wanted to have fun how old were you when you started i was 16 oh my gosh it's so crazy that you're so nice it's bananas because like i was saying before we got on like you're just a lovely person like you're one of those people in hollywood that i generally want good things to continue to happen to all the time because you're like you're present and you're cool and you're nice but like you're always down to like i mean you see me desperately trying to get people on a red carpet you're like no no i got you
Starting point is 00:36:41 and i'm like i have a story now thank you like you're just so lovely you know you really are it's it's it's i i i i'm so glad you didn't get ruined because it's so easy to get ruined okay i have two things i want to talk there's still time there's still time okay so while we were talking about this before we were supposed to have you on pre-covid and then we've been trying anyway so during covid i actually became a little bit of a lance myself i got really into space really into space yeah and there were times when i would come on the podcast and i'd be talking about the james webb telescope and i'd be like you'll never believe what they found and like all this stuff um and then i i was like kind of doing my research for this and so like where are
Starting point is 00:37:24 you at in your world and like could you ever like it was i remember it being the biggest story you're like you want to go to space i didn't know why everyone thought that was so weird i'm like yeah obviously it was literally it was like tiger woods cheating scandal and then we're like why are we being so mad about this boy wants to go to space like i don't understand why people were so mad yeah it was a it was a crazy time and uh you know looking back it was you know it was the beginning of you know space tourism you know it was just we just had dennis tito go up he was the first american then we had mark shuttleworth and then i was i took mark shuttleworth's place um it was just a weird thing like of course you're like wait lance bassman but it wasn't weird
Starting point is 00:38:03 you're super famous pop star you can do whatever the you want lance well i mean i it was my first dream and the fact that i got a chance at it was insane but one of the most fulfilling things of my life, you know, to be able to live in Russia and train as a cosmonaut and train in the same facility with the same professors as Yuri Gagarin, the first guy in space. I mean, it was just I was living history, you know, living on this base was like living in the 60s, like our Apollo days, nothing's really changed. So it was it was really cool just to kind of live in that paradigm for a bit and experience something that not many people get to experience. How long did you live there? uh off and on for half a year wow um you know so medical testing started and you know that was
Starting point is 00:38:49 a crazy time in itself uh i passed the i mean i failed the first time because i had an irregular heartbeat and no you can't have an irregular heartbeat you know to go to space it was totally benign but uh in order for me to go i had to have heart ablation surgery in order to correct that in order to get back into training oh yeah holy shit yeah and it's like crazy stuff that there was so many things in the universe being like okay you you shouldn't do this you shouldn't do this but we just kept going um but my doctor was like i don't know why i'm doing this surgery on you because this is ridiculous it's benign but you didn't need to do it like a normal person wouldn't get the surgery no but he couldn't go to space if he didn't get the surgery so you got
Starting point is 00:39:29 the surgery elective heart surgery i love it and then also my i guess my torso is too long you have to have a certain length of a torso to get into the seat um so in order for me to fit in it they built this suit that kept me down like this like with all these i don't know it was just like a little bungee cords so that it would kind of shrink me oh so and that's what i was supposed to wear in space so because in space you grow uh but yeah but i did come back from russia a good inch and a half two inches shorter i don't know how i don't know how they did it but i definitely came back shorter what yeah uh this is so wait now with like the tesla and like i mean that was 20 years ago and now we are closer to it like will you go in your lifetime you think like is that
Starting point is 00:40:15 still a dream i think in my lifetime i'll be able to go it just depends on what it's going to be there's so many great opportunities coming up even if we get a moon base right there's going to be so many tourists going living on the moon and a hotel um which will be fun i mean i'd love to touch the moon. It'd be incredible. Um, and then there's these, you know, flights that just go up for a couple of minutes and then they come down and you get to experience zero G mine was never about the rollercoaster of it all. Um, it would still be a fun ride, but my goal is, and it's always been, is to travel to the international space station, live there for 10 days, uh, do the experiments. Yeah. You know, and I had all these great experiments I was working on and I want to
Starting point is 00:40:54 be able to you know continue those um but in order for me to do that you know you'd have to pair up with a you know a great corporate you know some business has to send you up there you know if it's uh testing out some of their um new drugs or whatever uh that's that's what i would have to do but i know my dream is still to to be a real astronaut and and do some work up there and then float around and have fun too but it's all about you know i want to do some real work This is the most charming thing about you. I know. And there's a lot.
Starting point is 00:41:24 I have so many questions. It's so cute. Also, are you friends with Sean Hayes? I've met Sean several times. I wouldn't say we're friends, but definitely acquaintances. Because he talks on his podcast a lot about his, like, obsession with NASA and space. There's a whole other spin-off. Frosted Tips.
Starting point is 00:41:44 The spin-off. Frosted Tips in space. Because he also had a Frosted Tip. Yes, he did. I know. I got to get him on the show. the thing is if you're a boy bander you're on the show if you're a teen idol you get on the show if you ever had frosted tips you're on the show perfect yeah we're good wait when are you getting
Starting point is 00:42:00 mark mcgrath on has he been oh i know no he hasn't but he'll because that's like the ultimate yeah he'll definitely be so good oh my god i had ryan cabrera so like i mean oh yeah oh my god that ryan cabrera had on my life there was like a good two years where ryan cabrera was like the every woman's fantasy man it was such long frosted tips like he had a really lengthy frosted tip it was a bit of a flow different heights you know last week we just went to him and his wife who i don't know if you know lexi kaufman his wife uh she's a wrestler uh called alexa bliss in the wwe lovely lovely lovely girl um so they just threw a prom last week at my club heart for their one year anniversary. It was so much fun because it was a 90s 2000s prom because
Starting point is 00:42:51 most of us didn't really get to go to our prom. Right. And we had the best time ever. I mean, they know how to throw a party and halfway through the prom, I end up dressing as Lexi back in high school. So if you go to my Instagram and look at one of the last posts, you'll see me. She had a neck brace because she had broken her neck from cheerleading and she won prom queen. So she said this like white dress with a with a neck brace um and i found the exact same dress online my girl just did where did you find that posh mark got this 20 year old dress no yes i mean i got it tailored and everything yeah it was that is yeah incredible out of a movie a neck brace prom queen like that's amazing it was very regina george it was yes

Starting point is 00:45:35 a little older than one year old. And I'm like, well, she knows she does, but I'm like, you don't always want to make it about the kids, but then I will feel rude if I don't ask about the kids. I want to tell you something. I was a best friend to a boy, girl, twin set growing up. My best friend, Katie, I've been best friends with her since first grade. She, she was a girl, her brother, she had a brother obviously. And we grew up with like the twins and it's the most fun way to have a childhood like you're in for it because your house is the party house and what's cool is like you can be in fifth grade when you're not supposed to fifth six seven whatever i was inappropriate eighth grade whatever and you're not supposed to have boys and girls like together but
Starting point is 00:46:18 you do because you're at lance's house and that's what makes it so fun so i grew up in like a crew i was never having just all girl sleepovers or all boy sleep like you know it was we were always mixed and it's going to be so cool for you so true yeah because my husband's a boy girl twin so that's what he yeah he experienced that too oh that's cool where it was always mixed he uh his sister's definitely the the alpha like so she's the one in charge making the friends doing all the planning he was just kind of like alone for the ride yeah uh i'm excited to see how everything like pans out because right now they're already best friends i mean just their bond the way they love each other uh the way she already looks up to him so much and they're completely
Starting point is 00:46:57 opposite kids, like completely opposite personalities. But what I'm really excited about is their birthday is October 13th. So I'm a big Halloween freak. So that's going to be the birthday party every year that, you know, it's the Halloween birthday that gets everyone in the Halloween mood and start the season. So we're going to be that family. And then because my husband's Jewish, they're going to have a B'nai Mitzvah and that's their 13th birthday. So October 13th on their 13th birthday is a Friday. So it's gonna be Friday the 13th bar mitzvah. Holy shit. You're like
Starting point is 00:47:31 unlocking something in the universe on that day. And then you're going to space. And then I'm going to space. The b'nai mitzvah in space. And sadly we did have them born a day early just so that they could have Friday the 13th birthday every once in a while. I really
Starting point is 00:47:47 appreciate this. I don't believe that for a second. It's true. It is? You know how many people, first of all, thank you for admitting this because you know how many people are like act like they didn't schedule their child's birthday around wanting it to be something better than yes it happens all the time yeah it was supposed to be october 14th they're like well you know any of these days we're like we're picking the 13th oh nice yeah that's great um are you exhausted because i'm at the 14 months with one boy who won't stop moving are you more exhausted now that they're 18 months
Starting point is 00:48:24 no actually okay sleep gets way better like way better that first year yeah that was that was something like you just felt like you were in a dream at all times like and it's like what is reality i remember when i first brought them home like a week later there's these little nuggets and I'm just looking at them so sleep deprived being like, and I kept touching them like, are y'all real? Is this real? But now that they're sleep trained
Starting point is 00:48:52 it's a whole different ball game. To be able to sleep a good six hours is the best thing ever. And they're good sleepers. They don't really wake us up in the middle of the night. So we got those good kids. Good. Oh my gosh. You're like, as I'm here, so tired.
Starting point is 00:49:10 He's just good to hear he's just exhausting and waking hours like i just it doesn't do you notice with like boy girl how everyone's like oh the boys they just don't stop moving but is that is that really like for you too it is it's different my boy is yeah he's energetic he's the like he knows he's cute yeah so he does like he's a stinker he's a completely stinker which was totally me as a kid you know pushing every button but like looking at you like uh uh like always getting in trouble. Like, no is not a thing. He laughs when you say no. And then my girl is the opposite. So she's very organized. She'll clean up. She'll read a book in the corner. You know, she just,
Starting point is 00:49:47 she's just complete opposite of him. So yeah, he, he exhausts us a lot more. She's, she's, she's the good one. Yeah. She's the good one. She's going to hear this until she's a teenager and then you're screwed. Oh yeah. Those are the hard years. I know. I, yeah, I hear, well, my sister yeah she was kind of a hellion uh and in high school but yeah i hear girls definitely turn when they hit puberty um but you know they usually turn on the mom dads usually stay kind of cool to them you're right you're right hopefully dad will still have a really great connection with them when they go crazy and they turn on each other one of you so screwed still i think one of you screwed i think it's michael i hope it's michael i hope yeah um well lance
