Hey guys, the following podcast is a Lady Gang Network and Podcast One production, which
means it's going to be awesome.
It's time for a quickie.
Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, the Hollywood girl posse with Lady Gang Quickie.
Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek.
Let's make this quick.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The Lady Gang Quickie.
I'm Becca here with Jack and Kelty.
We're here.
We're here.
We're eating delicious chocolate caramel, salted chocolate caramel bites.
Sorry, we're eating again.
It's from Kelty's neighbor who likes to yell at Jack for driving too fast in the neighborhood.
He literally sought me out to yell at me, and I ran away in Kelty's house.
What do you mean sought you out?
He did.
He turned around.
We passed each other slowly, by the way.
In what car?
What car was he in?
Yeah.
Like a silver BMW or something?
Silver something?
Okay.
Passed each other.
I was driving very slowly.
looked at me like I had run over a dog
then turned around followed me back
to your house and then kept
asking people where I was so he could yell at me. Yeah he came
into the house and was like I want to
he's like I want to talk to the
driver of the white jeep
with a yin yang sign
she must be a teenager. Well Jack
like you know respect the neighborhood
it's an old street
that street breaks all the time
like I can understand why he was nervous
but the thing I would understand
And there's dogs.
And there's old people.
If I was going fast, I would have admitted it.
But maybe your idea of fast is different.
You know what I mean?
You literally can't go fast up your street.
It's a tiny, windy kind of street.
You were probably going too fast.
Too fast, Jack.
Like six miles an hour instead of five.
Six miles is pretty fast for that hill.
Okay.
I need you to take it down.
Anyways, thanks for the chocolate, sir.
Thank you very much.
Well, no, because what I did for the holidays is that I gave everyone in my neighborhood
like a really nice
holiday gift
because we've been
such motherfuckers
like filming all the time
what'd you get everyone
I got them
essential oil diffusers
with like a whole set
of essential oils
yeah and like nice cards
it was like
sorry I fucked up your life
for the last six months
anyway
so that's what
and then it was awesome
because everyone felt like
like they needed
to get me a gift
even though I was like
the gift is
you didn't like
call the police on us
right
but I got
handmade cookies
these
a bottle of wine
like it was nice
wow
okay
well enough about that are you ready to for our ask you anything no you didn't do give us a quote
oh my god i mean i always want to like breeze through it or breeze i know but people love it
and now that i'm bullet jeweler journaling i have like even more quotes available lucky us
okay are you ready this one's really good not everyone needs to have access to you while you're
healing restoring growing and transforming protecting certain phases of your process
will be required in order to elevate and self-actualize successfully.
That's the story of my life.
I like that.
Oh, my God.
That's not really an inspirational quote, though.
That's more just like...
But it was on an inspirational quote.
Words to live.
And when I searched inspirational quotes, so...
So what does that say?
So get into it.
I like that because it's true.
I think that with technology, people think that you should always be 100% accessible.
No, I don't like it.
I just started not being because that's okay.
That's okay.
Like I don't like it when I'm having a conversation like business-wise and they suddenly feel like it's okay.
Here's the thing.
I don't like when they are presumptuous and being like, let's do a double date soon or like –
Like I don't want to be friends with you.
Yeah.
Like I don't enjoy letting people in.
And, like, when you share your cell phone number with people who you might, like, casually run into for work or whatever.
And then they abuse it.
And then they abuse it.
So I just start ignoring.
I love ignoring.
I've also had a lot of people come from the past.
Oh, God.
From my dancer days and be like, I've been watching you rise and I'm so proud of you.
I was like, don't try to be in my friend group now.
No.
That's too late.
I changed my number.
That's why.
I know.
I can't change my number, though, because I love it when my ex-boyfriend's, like, write me, like, every three years.
Oh, my God.
just change your number no because i can't it's too emotional okay when we come back
ask a ua ask us anything okay the lady gang and we're back oh megan this is a good one what is
the hardest part for each of you about the lady gang that we don't see is it being on camera doing
publicity planning content or something else that i can't even think of hardest part about lady gang
tv it started off for tv it started off as being really nervous for like my family to see it not
my immediate family or just certain people in my life because it's really raunchy i think the
hardest part like starting off like you said too was not knowing because it's like there's there's
more than us now in the whole project we have so many different like um what's it called things to
jump through rings hoops hoops hoops to jump through my brain is not working today and there's
so many cooks in the kitchen where it could have been turned into something that we didn't want
and that we didn't like or enjoy doing so i think that fear of when we started it not knowing
what it was going to end up being was so hard because it's our brand that we had worked on
for three years and we're now putting it in somebody else's hands i think also now at the
point of lady gang it's i get worried about like keeping things fresh and like evolving the brand
yeah what's crazy for me is that i always feel like we never have a hard time keeping things
fresh between us there's always something to talk about like you guys are always making me laugh
and crazy but i get worried that there's not enough hours in the day a but then i also have
the struggle for me is giving up that i'm gonna like everything 100 right like that compromise
of being like okay this is what other people want that are involved and so like i'm gonna meet you
in the middle like that's really hard because everything you guys always pick out like i love
so it's easier to work yeah so that's like easier you know what i mean and then probably like just
the fear that like someone on the entertainment side was gonna see the show and be like oh you're
you have to get fired like we can't have you doing this show and like being a professional
i feel the same way but no one has and honestly no and people love it like offered another homework
movie i know how i know it's crazy because i think i was just thinking about this this morning like
sometimes when you just are your authentic like self people like appreciate it's not as shocking
to people because people are like oh like i actually know you well that in itself is actually
refreshing i mean we've talked about it a million times where it's like people are talking about
authenticity and it's a bunch of curated bullshit yeah so people are probably like resonating with
it yeah all right next question is kelty rubbing off at all on becca and jack
like your way of operating like are we operating on your level it well they emily is the person
who has this i'm assuming they're talking about your like type a i don't know they gave us the
face that's laughy with the tears like i think when you have somebody like kelty on your team
like a type a workhorse you allow them to be themselves yeah and you don't follow suit and
she allows us to be ourselves yeah i think if you had another person like you in this trio
there would be a lot of headbutting like a lot i can't imagine it just wouldn't happen no it
wouldn't be the success you need two passive people like me and becca for the most part i love
a backseat same i love a backseat with a driver only with a driver i do think though i don't know
that well i think this i think that becca and jack with me being like the bossy boots of the
lady gang have sat back and i think are bossy and highly motivated and very like go get them
with other aspects of their life but in the lady gang it's allowed them to like chill a little bit
and i will make the point that at my job at entertainment tonight i am not the bossy boots
because i am not in charge of that show so i am someone that in that i sit back and i'm like oh
what do you guys want what do we want the interview but it's not about me it's not my decisions to be
made so this is my place to like really do that yeah but i don't do it in i mean i do it in all
areas of my life but like my other job i can't be like you guys are gonna come at five and then
we're gonna do this yeah this is like yeah this is your place to do that and i yeah i think that
yeah you're right because in everything else my other projects i i'm in charge of any everything
that i'm doing yeah so it's kind of nice to to take that back seat on me when you're not strong
No?
Okay.
Next one.
I take a back seat in every part of my life.
Even in my marriage.
You're so full of shit.
I do.
I let Zach make pretty much every decision because I don't care.
Like, what I like more than getting my way is not having to decide or do it.
Really?
Myself.
Wow.
Yeah.
I like getting my way.
No.
I mean, whatever.
Okay.
Megan wants to know, what is the most annoying thing we, your fans, Lady Gang members, Instagram
followers do to you is it bugging jack about her relationship constantly commenting oh my god i
love you you're the cutest i'm guilty of these and more and i think you're my real friend sometimes
but then i wonder if i'm just actually as annoying as shit i have no complaints for 99.9 of the fans
that's why we're able to do what we do for a living and it's it's amazing i will say that
sometimes it gets really difficult when the fans turn on each other yeah or watch yeah i hate
watching that and i also hate if something that we say triggers like it's something you don't like
or agree with and then you paint us out to be evil terrible people instead of just somebody who may
have messed up or was misunderstood like that's tough i think a lot of that problem too is just
the internet and like the hive mind of the Facebook group and any sort of a group of
people that once something triggers somebody, then people are going to like piggyback onto
that.
And then it just like keeps snowballing and snowballing and snowballing.
But that's like, that has nothing to do with like each individual person.
That's just a problem with the internet.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And also like, I think that it's like, we've put ourselves out there, you know, and to
be really brutally honest and candid.
So it's tough when you're then criticized for it.
That's like anybody.
Yeah, you know, like you could probably go back to being a perfect little like buttoned up person, but it's not real.
But you won't piss people off.
Right.
But who wants that?
Well, the thing is, is that you always want to make, I think, people feel a certain way.
Like they're either going to love you or they're going to hate you.
But if they just feel nothing about you, then like what are you doing?
That's what real art is.
You know, you're making somebody feel.
It's making something feel.
Feel this.
I agree with you, though.
I think it hurts my feelings when I see in the Facebook group like the – it doesn't happen often, but every once in a while it'll happen.
and it just goes, like, from 0 to 60 so fast.
And the mods, we're all talking.
We're like, what do we do?
And I think sometimes, like, people's inability in this day and age
to just scroll past something they don't agree with
or, like, see it from someone else's perspective
or be like, oh, I don't really like that,
but, like, I'm not going to, like, go in.
Like, everyone feels the need to be right in those moments.
And, like, that gets kind of sad.
People think that their opinions are facts a lot,
and that's kind of a problem.
Well, and what I do in my life when I think somebody is an idiot, I either think like where I used to be like I'm going to tell them they're an idiot and I'm going to tell them why I hate them.
But now I either do one of two things.
I either actually kind of like send them love because I feel sorry for how they have to live like an idiot.
And then I think everybody is just doing the best they can with what they have.
So like sometimes people just you don't realize are really doing the best that they can.
This is all they have.
And this is what they have, and they're still a f***ing idiot.
This is their level.
And Godspeed.
Godspeed, and, like, move on.
Yeah.
Move on.
I know.
It upsets me.
I mean, there is one other thing that the fans do that really bothers me.
What?
You guys are going to yell at me when I say this.
When they don't follow the rules?
No.
You should follow the rules no matter what.
It does hurt my feelings a little bit that, like, we have a pretty good social media following.
Oh, my God.
And there's, like, millions of people listening.
Next question.
Next question.
I'm just like, I just, I just wonder here.
Answer me this.
I want to use this as I want to use this as a teaching.
None of us have gotten either.
Neither of us have gotten more Instagram followers from the podcast either.
You're not alone.
You just had less to begin with.
But here's my question to everyone out there listening.
I can see how many of you are listening and it's a lot of people.
And so my question is, what is it about?
They get enough of us.
They get an hour and a half of us every week.
You don't want.
Is that the answer?
You're not want more.
Neither. None of us have like a super interesting Instagram.
Yeah. Like like Jax might be the most.
Yeah. But even then, it's not like she's giving a piece of herself on story every day.
Like people now follow people on Instagram who are like giving a piece of themselves.
Yeah. Good for them. But like that's not what any of us are doing.
We do it here. So this is the this is the medium in which people want to follow us.
And I would pick this over Instagram any day.
Well, and to piggyback on that, you're getting somebody listening to what you have to say for like an hour and a half a week rather than clicking like on a picture that they're scrolling through for 0.5 seconds.
So you're saying people like my thoughts more than they like my face?
It's so saturated, Instagram.
And a lot of times people don't want to follow people who make them feel bad about themselves.
Maybe people are jealous.
Maybe you're so beautiful and successful that people are like, you know what?
Is that what it is?
Like, I stopped following people who were doing better than I was.
I literally stopped following everybody.
Me too.
I follow only dogs.
I've muted people who make me feel bad.
I have done that too.
Okay.
I don't follow anybody pretty anymore.
No, me either.
Okay.
Not a single person.
Emily Elizabeth wants to know, what has been your biggest rose and your biggest thorn since
you started this?
I love that you guys care so much about our Lady Gang journey.
What has been your biggest takeaway from the podcast?
Is this what she thought it would be?
How has the Lady Gang brand expanded?
What are we answering now?
The rose and the thorn?
Yeah, whatever.
Ooh, from Lady Gang.
I don't find there to be a thorn.
Like, other than the fact that there's moments that I'm tired.
Yeah.
But that's, like, anything.
I think the lady box in general has been, like, a little bit of a thorn.
Because you let it.
Yes.
No, it was a pain in the ass.
No, it's true.
The lady box from the beginning, like, has always been hard.
It's like a love-hate relationship with the lady box.
But then this last time, we did try to alleviate some of Kelty's struggles, and yet she inserted
herself.
Yeah.
Like, we hired someone.
I know.
We really tried to, you know.
It's just didn't go well.
She can't give up the control.
She can't.
That's not why.
I just, it hurts my feelings when people, like, I take it so personal when something
explodes in the mail.
You know what I mean?
You can't.
I know.
I get that email and it's like, mine came without a pop socket.
I'm like, oh my God, I'm so sorry.
I can't believe.
I know what your New Year's resolution should be if it's not already on your list.
You need to take a beat before responding to people on Facebook.
Oh my God.
Or sleep.
If you are writing a pissed off, mad email, sleep on it.
I am so much better at this than I was.
She is better now.
She's better now.
I have improved tenfold.
Jack doesn't agree.
I have improved tenfold.
Well, I'm just trying to think of the last time that you've wrote an email probably prematurely.
It's been at least six months.
It's been a few months.
Thank you.
But with the Facebook stuff, here's what Kelty does with Facebook.
I do believe that the question had nothing to do with what is Kelty's biggest thorn.
It's what is your biggest thorn.
No.
What's Kelty's biggest flaw?
I'm just going to put that out there.
Kelty wants everyone to be happy and to like her.
But normal operating businesses are not going to bend over backwards when somebody makes a mistake.
They're going to fix it for you.
I know.
They're not going to be like, I'm so sorry.
I'm going to send you my firstborn child.
And this goes back to that other question about like, what do people do that annoy us?
And not that this annoys us, but we're very, very accessible, especially through that Facebook
group, especially you.
And so I think for a lot of the time, people think that they can complain directly to us
about things that might not have to do directly with us.
So like we don't pack those boxes.
Yeah.
So things are like, I don't work for FedEx.
So those kind of things.
Where it's like, we're not God.
We can't fix every single problem.
Again, we're trying our best with what we have.
If the podcast sucks, please tell us.
Will you bring back the OG tank tops?
No.
If you did not get an original member of the Lady Gang tank top, you missed out.
It's never coming back.
You can wear it in 40 years and be like, I'm an OG.
And you'll always get special treatment from us.
I bought one on eBay for like $600.
Just kidding.
They're pulling up.
Okay.
I would love to know more.
about jack and her business how she started made connections source product to get her designs made
who runs it now what's her day-to-day look like um i feel like i've talked about this on the
podcast before i started it when i was in college hold on what i'm renaming you for 2019 what jack
i think we've talked about this on the podcast before vanik yeah but i have every time jack
we're like 200 listening that have never heard it we are 200 episodes in like for sure we've
talked about things you realize it's not just the three of us in a room talking every time
every time you're like i've talked about this before yes i know i have talked about
we have talked about dry humping before yes this is this is a read i don't remember no that was
fresh that was fresh see we can always come up with fresh things yeah oh god am i talking about
it yes i guess i guess um i started my business when i was in college i was going to concerts
and i was on myspace a lot and i was like at the point where i was graduating college
and i saw all of my friends and bands like touring the country living out their dreams and i'm like
wait a second i want to do that but i have no musical talent but i have a degree in design
and i have a lot of myspace friends like how can i how can i make that into something that's like
the end of the way that i want to live my life so i made this idea for these like little rubber
bracelets i was selling them on bulletins on myspace out of my backpack at concerts and
warp tour and gave them to friends and bands did the whole gorilla marketing thing and it just took
off it's amazing it really is a good and then it was like 10 years of like absolute shit but you
know okay last one to end this episode from sophia what are your goals for lady gang this year
oh god
can we talk about
we're working on
a book
can we talk about it
yeah
working on a book
if you have any ideas
or are a ghost writer
please send us
sample chapters
I don't know
how the hell
we're gonna do it
yeah we're working
on a book
we're working on
a possible beverage
of sorts
hopefully we get
more episodes
of the show
second season
of Lady Gang
yeah
that's on my
manifest list
for this year
season two
season two
yep um what are we doing i actually recently listened to a podcast and it was talking about
like hit shows and how so many of them did not launch sleepers yeah they were people discovered
them before the second season like the summer before from reruns so then their second season
was an explosion yeah so what i'm thinking is everyone right now has been watching what we
filmed before yeah so it'll be the equivalent like in march oh you think we're gonna have our
explosion i hope so that would be sick the other thing is like everyone's like oh well queer eye
popped right away but it was also the second coming of queer eye netflix and you knew you
don't netflix is a totally different netflix is a different monster and when netflix shows are
either massive hits or they flop yeah like that's all there's no in between and also regular tv is
not like that for us to be successful and for us to get good ratings like you actually have to be
tuning in at the time that it's playing and if you don't watch it on your dvr after two or three
days it doesn't count like queer eye you could have watched it at 3 a.m um three weeks after
and it still counts so it's like but like friends and will and grace i know bad first seasons yeah
cheers really yep it's not that we're even remotely we're just like jenna we're just like
friends on that note let's leave that hanging for 2019 holla holla well we weren't here for a long
time but we were here for a goddamn good time bye hey guys thanks so much for listening to the lady
