Starting point is 00:02:12 becca tobin and jack vanik let's make this quick hello hello hello welcome to the lady gang quickie I am back in here with Jack and Kelty. Happy birthday, Becca. Happy birthday, Becca. Happy birthday. What date is this airing? The 14th. Your birthday's on the 17th.
Starting point is 00:02:34 It's the 18th? Oh my God, amazing. Is there a closer date to the 18th than the 14th that we could have aired this on? Or not? We're just going for it. Not really, I guess. No, this is a birthday episode. Oh, thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:02:47 i feel angry at the roman numerals because i do not feel like i know it's our birthday month but i do not feel like we got this year like this year was what do you mean like i don't think that 38 for me counts as i roll into 39 like but what about like what about me doesn't count for anyone yeah doesn't count for anyone like i feel like it should just reset like it's your birthday but it's like another chance at this. Yeah, no, this last year, any birthday that anybody has had during COVID does not count. So we're all just turning the age that we turned last year. Maybe we should just all agree to do that. Yeah. I think I'm going to be 34 again and that's fine. Yeah. I think as a, as a society, we should, that should just be a rule. I have an agreement with my
Starting point is 00:03:36 brother that we have a good lie going. Cause we're three years apart that no matter who asks, like we're, he's always three years younger than he is. And I'm always three young, three years younger than that. Oh, wow. So we're in on the lie together. So you're actually 40. I'm 35, but thank you for coming to my TED talk. Got you. Okay. So Becca, what are your plans for your birthday in Vancouver? I'm working. So on your birthday, on my birthday, which I like, because I really am not a big birthday person and I'm certainly not a big COVID birthday person and not a birthday person in a city where I have no friends. So it's just not even my birthday. So being able to go to work, first of all, I think being able to go to work on your birthday is a
Starting point is 00:04:23 blessing because a lot of people don't have work. That is my gift is that I've been given a job and I get to go to it. And also I don't think anybody there will know it's my birthday, which thrills me i oh my god that's great that my worst nightmare is if i'm there and a bunch and if somebody finds out or somehow somehow i can't imagine because i'm also not going to be reposting my birthday wishes which is a whole nother bag of worms that i don't want to get into but let me fran lebowitz this okay wait like birthday like kelty i don't of course you will as for, this is my friendly bullets. I will not be reposting the stories. If there are any of my friends that are wishing me a happy birthday, because two reasons, number one,
Starting point is 00:05:14 before Instagram, did people receive birthday cards, take pictures of said birthday cards, and then post them for all their friends to see those cards are for you. So these stories are for me to see and I'm seeing them and I'm appreciating them and I'll respond, but I'm not reposting them. Probably not going to get any now. Not from me. That's for sure. Great. No, I appreciate them. I don't agree with the re-storying them. I agree with, I get there for me to see and for my birthday wish and I get to see them and that's where it ends. And then my other thing with it is because I'm so inconsistent with birthday, with people's birthdays in life, but also on social media. So I made the decision last year that I was going to
Starting point is 00:06:02 stop posting anybody's birthdays on social media because God forbid somebody got their feelings hurt just because I simply forgot. It means nothing of your importance in my life. It is true. The only people that I post their birthdays are my Enneagram twos because I know that it will crush them and probably ruin our relationship if I don't post on their birthday, but everyone else that's normal they don't wow that's a great that is smart technique i have fallen down the it's not a rabbit hole but something where for one friend i was like i went through our instagram dms and found all these fun moments and i did like a few fun moments on your birthday you did a highlight oh no no no now my other best friend's birthday and now i have to
Starting point is 00:06:48 do that for them it's so difficult to find it in the first place the only reason i did it for the is because I was bored that day. But then you set the precedent too high. So I like that, keeping the bar at nothing. Yes. Nothing. I'm posting nobody's birthdays ever again. Maybe my husband's because he does deserve that. But yeah, that's my feeling and my friend Leibowitz's opinion on birthdays and social media. It also is, there is nothing that's more of a Like you said, if they find out, cause then it's people that you don't really know that well. And then, you know, they don't care and they don't care, but then everybody has to be extra
Starting point is 00:07:31 nice to you. And it's the worst part about some people do really care. Like I just think about my past offices and how, you know, for someone that doesn't get to wear gowns and be fabulous every day, like their birthday is a big day for them. and so they are excited to like wear their special outfit on their birthday and like wear a jean instead of a legging like so it some people it is a big deal that's more of a difference between like personality type i think though not like if you wear gowns like kelty does to award shows do you want to hear something so depressing about my birthday at work yeah is i saw what scene we're
Starting point is 00:08:10 shooting that day and it's a scene by myself so it's like i'm not even with any of the other actors. But isn't that your dream? Kind of, but it's also, it just makes it, that kind of takes it to like a sad level. Yeah. It's a little bit too much. Granted, there's everyone else that's still going to be there, the amazing crew and hair and makeup. And that's nice, but there is something, you're sitting there and it's like, it's a scene in my office by myself on a phone call. So it's so bleak and it's the night of my birthday. It's not even like I can work that morning and then go to dinner with Zach. I will come in at four o'clock probably and work until eight. Yeah, that's kind of sad. Wait, Becca, this is exciting. I feel like, I don't know how
Starting point is 00:08:58 our listeners feel, but I definitely feel like this, that you are breadcrumbing this show with us. We have no information. We just recently learned your name. I didn't even realize you were a big enough character to have a scene by yourself. I mean, I'm not. It's a phone call where the main guy from the show is on the other end. So that justifies me being by myself. I have a question about when you shoot a phone call, is somebody talking to you? Yes. I always wonder this. It's the script supervisor. So the script supervisor will usually sit next to the director in Video Village, which is the little area they set up with the monitors so that they
Starting point is 00:09:37 can be watching from wherever they need to be watching. Because they're often not in the room that you're shooting in. That's the camera crews in there with the actor and then off to like hallway there in video village. Script supervisor is the person who first of all has one of the hardest jobs in the business because they are keeping track of the consistency of, of being on, of what the actors are doing. So if you pick up a Coke can on the first take with your left hand, they have to notate that so that the next take you're lifting up the same can at the same time with the same hand oh so it's like continuity so then that's the person who usually sometimes the director will do it if the directors uh used to be an actor usually that's how i found it but it's
Starting point is 00:10:22 usually the script supervisor who's on the other like on this side off camera saying the phone is not plugged in the phone is not no it's not working and it's acting so they're not saying it in your ear on the phone. No, but I bet you there are actors who request that, try to get that. I mean, there are actors who request a lot of things to try to make them really, really real. But the worst part about it is that the script script supervisor is usually someone who's very type a and very introverted. So when they're reading lines with you, they're not giving you the feeling it. Yeah. You're not getting shit. And so they're amazing and everybody appreciates them but those are sometimes the hardest scenes to shoot because you're working with nothing
Starting point is 00:11:04 um and those ones it's like that kid the kids in et that had to film with yes t being a nothing thing or like a stuffed animal yeah you got to pull it out of the deep yeah place within you that's why she's back a fucking tobin that's why it's going to be cringy to watch those scenes but that's a fine it's totally fine well becca if if you want help you know you can call me up and i can be on the other end of the phone what if I got to set and that day and said you know I really I I need this for my performance uh I'm gonna call my real life acting coach slash friend slash business partner Jack Vanek she's gonna be on the other end of this phone call if that's okay with you the only way that you can truly get into character and then I want to add this like add one
Starting point is 00:11:51 more thing to the scene you make a plan and you're like okay Jack I need you for the scene it's at four. And then she texts and says, I'm going to be 10 minutes late. I'm in traffic. Yes. And then she's like, yo, there's crazy traffic today. I'm going to be 10 minutes late. And then, and then in those 10 minutes forgets. And then she's like, I'm sorry. I was eating a sandwich. Oh my God. Yeah. Yesterday, my favorite was we had a meeting on zoom and we're like, where's Jack? Where's Jack? Where's Jack? And she finally pops in and she goes, I was just cleaning my room. First of Well, I haven't used that term cleaning my room since I- I meant my apartment.
Starting point is 00:12:28 You know, I felt weird when I said that. I was like, I wasn't cleaning my room. I was cleaning my kitchen. But I just, I think I was so embarrassed. And you know what was so funny? I knew this meeting was happening and I knew our meeting was at 3.30. And at 2.30, I'm like, okay,
Starting point is 00:12:41 I need to remember this meeting at 3.30. And I knew I was going to forget it. It's okay. In my mind, I'm like, I'm going to be forgotten and I have nothing else going on today. It wasn't like I was doing something. You were cleaning your room. you're cleaning your room like a teenager yeah all right when we come back more from sets with
Starting point is 00:12:59 becca and her birthday something so cute happened on the lady gang facebook page the other day we're talking about like what games do you play and then so many of you said best fiends and i was like oh my god they're listening to the podcast it's so so so cute things have come a long way since we were kids and i used to play my nintendo all the time and you know what else is an instant classic like mario kart best fiends it is the top rated mobile puzzle adventure and i know that we're all kind of sitting around our homes waiting for this pandemic to be over and one of the things that i found that's kind of fun is to play this game and there's constantly new levels and when you beat a level you get this like a little rush and it's just really really exciting we don't want to be
Starting point is 00:13:41 bored and i don't want to do too much online shopping so this is a nice uh moment that i use The fun never ends and that is not an exaggeration. There are 5,000 puzzle levels in Best Fiends so you're pretty much going to be able to play forever. Download Best Fiends for free on the Apple App Store today or Google Play. That's friends without the R. Best Fiends. Enjoy. So somehow, someway, I've been running around all day long. I don't even know what I've been doing because I've been stuck in my apartment but somehow I've been working all day and I'm ready to sit down, relax, and crack open a cold one and there's only one beer out there that's literally made to chill. And that is Coors Light. The mountains on the bottles and cans even turn
Starting point is 00:14:21 blue when your beer is cold. It's my favorite thing about Coors Light ever because you always know when it's time to chill. So when you need to hit reset, just open a Coors Light. It's a mountain colder refreshment made to chill. Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colorado. They are the best. Coors Light is cold lager, cold filtered and cold packaged. It's literally made to chill and it's as crisp and refreshing as the Colorado Rockies. Perfect for a moment to unwind. So Coors light is the one that I choose when I need to unwind. So when you need to hit reset, reach for a beer that is made to chill. Get Coors Light and the new look delivered straight to your door with Drizzly or Instacart. Join me in having a Coors Light today, tomorrow, every day. Celebrate
Starting point is 00:15:01 responsibly. The Lady Gang. All right, we're back. So are there any other things you can tell us about your show yeah i mean okay here i'll tell you so far okay as someone who pays attention to everything you do here's what we know about the show okay there's a dog that you instagrammed that's very cute uh-huh she becca has her own chair and she sits in it six feet away from people with a mask on becca wears hot rollers as her character wears hot rollers yep she at one time was possibly wearing a plum silk um uh uh pencil skirt and a nude top her name is brooke brooke that's i think jack is there anything else we know we've met none of the castmates well there was one on the couch there was somewhere that you
Starting point is 00:16:01 were like and then i clicked on the girl that you tagged and she was also in the show so we met her she had curly hair but i don't even know her name it wasn't that much of a feature um other than that we do not know what you are doing there i feel like i should is there anything else no that's all we know anything else i saw the dog i saw the chair i saw the face mess i saw the hot rulers i mean yeah i think that's like where i leave it i'm breadcrumbing the shit out of you guys isn't it it wouldn't be becca if she didn't do that well it's like okay like like how much of the show are you in like you're a main i'm in i'm in um quarter no i'm in here's the thing when you're an ancillary character character i can't speak am i even an actor
Starting point is 00:16:50 so there's the main guy and that and then there's you know three other leads with him the day-to-day people in his life. And then I am his ex-girlfriend. And will they, won't they? They may get back together. They may not. We don't know. So I'm in almost every episode except for three, I think, out of the 12. But some episodes I'm in only a scene or two. And then some I might be in five scenes or whatever so i'm not i'm not a huge important person in this show so if this was seinfeld you're the i'm the the i am um if this is the naked girl that comes over and is naked no that's like a one-time guest star i'm not a one-time guest star seinfeld's too hard because there's four main characters and then no one else i'm i'm the post office guy what's his
Starting point is 00:17:51 name? Newman, Newman. I'm Newman because Newman pops in and out. He's a consistent character throughout the series, but he's not one of the core, uh, people. So I'm the Newman of the show. I love that. Now this is so exciting. Now, uh, question, will you be having like a red carpet premiere? Like, is there going to be a press junket day? Would you be involved in that as the newman yes but the i think the show is set to premiere in the summer in the summer i don't know i mean we'll see what happens i don't know how much i'll probably i will do press i don't know if i'll do all press i don't know whatever i think that the thing that's very important for the lady in community to understand is that the big network that i'm working for
Starting point is 00:18:42 is um i think that they're easily swayed by a lot of people like fangirling over the show and over characters so if i'm like a fan favorite and we make it really known on social media then i could be doing you know more seasons i love this more press more this more that more whatever well you know becca okay so i already have my plan it just like went in my mind we're gonna make memes of you great we're gonna make memes of your character and then spread them to the internet great we're gonna do a watch party now i have one more question why many questions but is this a show in which i can sit on the weekend and watch all the episodes or is this a little bit getting put out no this is like this is like old school tv where they will release one episode per week
Starting point is 00:19:30 so we could do a lady and watch party yeah we could my character joins at the end of episode three, I believe. Um, so yeah, we could do a watch, a watch from the beginning and we could have a fun little thing where we get a hashtag trending because that's the cool thing to do. You know, I like this. I like preparing for Becca's explosion. Maybe we'll even buy some people, some subscriptions for the service that they're going to be watching this on because that's also very exciting. Do you know what I mean? Like a code, like swipe up to use my code Becca to get 12 months of blah, blah, blah, free. Probably not. No, I'm the draw because that's what they think is they're going to be like, Oh, all of her fans are going to go over
Starting point is 00:20:15 and subscribe to this thing because she's on it. I mean, they don't know I have no fans, but that's what we're going to hope for. This is why you need a code. So they know that with Becca 20, that's from me, right? Exactly. I do think we need a code. Well, I also have a lady gang code. What if everyone's already subscribed? Well, then they're just going to have to be more crazy on social media and they're going to have to actually watch the show. And also what you could do is only watch the episodes I'm in so that it makes it very clear that you're only there for me. Wait, what I'm doing. That's what I'm doing. Wouldn't that be amazing? They can tell. I just only fast forward, watch Becca and then fast forward. No, you kind of want to watch the
Starting point is 00:20:52 whole thing for the episodes it would be so funny if there was like no viewers episode one no viewers episode two no viewers episode three until the end you guys i'm into this i'm into this i could really i could probably get some bots to do that too if i was really crazy i would do that i love this but then again i also feel like you know uh the lady king has never let us down no so they're not gonna let us down here they do watch the homework movies i've been in but it's been a lackluster uh uh lackluster social media event occasionally when they were replayed the first time song for christmas was on we were hot on twitter i think so i don't know if we trended we're listen we're not gonna let you down right girls no this is this is our time to shine i have
Starting point is 00:21:41 nothing to do for the next six months except plan this yeah and and the more successful that you guys can make me the better this whole our it's a win-win it's a win-win we will probably give you more free stuff we'll probably give you better guests on the podcast um not that they aren't tip top now because i think we have some of the best people um but stuff like that yeah i'll probably give away we'll do give away free shit i love it everybody wins on that note we have to go because it's time's out but i can't wait to um actually i was thinking just now i will start a new page in my bujo that is all my investigative work on becca's new series piece together the pieces into you know you could just google but yes you're right no i know but it's more fun to see it
Starting point is 00:22:27 through your eyes what is becca showing me i don't know anyone she works with yet really i haven't seen her in a hair and makeup trailer hair like you know i'm missing some of the halloween okay well i'll be better about posting that stuff on instagram i'll do it on my birthday because I'll be so lonely. All right. Hi, it's me. I'm calling. It's my birthday.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Okay. We weren't here for a long time. We were here for a good time. Thanks for listening. The Lady Gang is produced by Alex Ingber, Will Sterling, Steve Delameter, and Jared Monaco. Make sure you subscribe, rate, and review our podcast. And if you love it,
