LadyGang - LG QUICKIE: Our GMA Recap

Episode Date: July 2, 2020

We are up and recording way too early, but it's worth it because we're on Good Morning America talking about Act Like a Lady! And because of the time space continuum, Jac’s breaking her one... rule and discussing dreams while Becca’s sister, on the east coast, gives an early review of the performance. How’d it go? Listen and find out. Thank you to Third Love for sponsoring today's show! Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, I'm Barbara aka your nursing educator on Instagram. I'm a registered nurse and I make content that's all about helping nursing students thrive. One of the first and easiest things I tell nursing students, if you haven't already done so, upgrade your scrubs to figs. Out with these stiff boxy scrubs, in with the ridiculously comfy well-designed figs that were specifically designed with us in mind. They're super soft, lightweight, and breathable with four-way stretch and moisture wicking fabric that keeps up during long shifts pockets are exactly where you need them the fit feels modern and tailored and they hold their shape wash after wash whether you're in class at clinical or working the floor you deserve scrubs that work as hard as you do go to
Starting point is 00:00:40 wearfigs.com and use code figs ca for 15 off your first order that's wearfigs.com code figs ca it's time for a quickie podcast one presents the lady gang the hollywood girl posse with lady gang quickie here's kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanek let's make this quick hello hello hello welcome to lady gang quickie i'm becky here with jack and kelty happy july it is 6 0 5 in the morning i was hoping we would get our computers working while it was still in the five o'clock hour. So we could be like, it's five o'clock in the morning, but now it's 6 0 6 AM. Six minutes too late. We were on good morning America this morning. And, uh, that's why we're up so early. I have had like three hours of sleep and a cup of coffee
Starting point is 00:01:32 and adrenaline and nerves. So I'm like, I don't know who I am right now. I feel like I could barf. You need to drink some water. I know actually, should I go get some water? I might do that. Um, I'm literally like, something's wrong with me. I need a Xanax. You guys, I had a dream. Well, so I woke up at three. We had to wake up at like four 15. I had a, I woke up at three 10 and then I had a dream that we were filming lady gang
Starting point is 00:02:00 TV again. And I was, went to Kelsey's house to spend the night. And then I woke up late, didn't have any of my stuff. And it's like one of those dreams where like, everything is just going wrong and you're not prepared at all. So, so nervous. did you just tell us about your dream oh no oh no wow tell me more about that dream i was just and what happened and then you were there but then like you had like a dolphin body
Starting point is 00:02:26 and then you're like and then sometimes like my dad was i will say that that is that is the most common dream for me is trying to get somewhere trying to get ready but like everything being all over the place not being able to get my shit together so i don't know what that represents maybe just that I can't get my life together. What does that represent? Because I have it, but a lot of times I have it, like I have a reoccurring rocket dream where I'm like supposed to be presetting my costumes, but I can't find the costume pieces. And it's like, I don't have my tap shoes. Wait, I have the exact same thing. Yeah. What is that? Do you have that always in high school? Like it's always one of those end of the year. I had never made it to
Starting point is 00:03:09 a single class and I haven't studied for like my exam. That's how my anxiety of unpreparedness manifests in the dream. Wow. It's so, it's so strange. Can someone tell us what these dreams mean? Cause they're all pretty much the same. Oh my God. We should get a dream spot. Oh my God. Who are you? You're breaking your own rules. Today is not my morning. I don't know. Cause it's so early. She doesn't even know who she is anymore. I opened a can of worms that I want to put back. I never want to do live television. That is like the worst. So anxiety ridden. That is the worst feeling ever. I don't know how you do the Thanksgiving day parade. Well, I do know you just say amazing over and over again. And you say, yeah, well, it was interesting. So
Starting point is 00:03:51 we woke up, we woke up super early this morning and I went to the closet and I looked in the mirror. This is like such a weird story to tell, but I'm going to tell it because it's a podcast. Yeah. I looked in the mirror and it was like, my face is puffy in that morning way that is only, it only happens when you wake up too early. You go to the airport too early. You have to wake up for work early. Your face hasn't gotten a chance for gravity to unpuff it yet. And I looked in the mirror. I was like, I know this face. This is like TV face. I was like, this is not get up at 830 and start podcasting face like it's been during quarantine. I'm like, this is so different. and then I had like this PTSD of like oh my god I remember when I got up so early and then I was
Starting point is 00:04:30 like poor Michael Strahan he has to get up so early I was thinking about Michael Strahan this morning the exact same thing so many jobs like that poor man let that guy sleep how do we do it we get they get dressed whatever money money for sure and that's honestly my next thought was like well if I was making 10 million dollars I'd probably get up at four o'clock every morning again too yeah then so before we went on air we were talking to the producer and the director and they had this show feed of like what was actually airing on good morning america so hearing the other interviews but then they're talking over it and i had like my heart was like i can't believe that there were many years and you guys dealt with me which is i i would have
Starting point is 00:05:10 given up on me where i was hearing a show in my ears hosting another show and then on the side texting you about lady gang like i was doing three no wonder i'm such a fucking psycho like i mean i can't believe i i took me right back there it's been actually a minute probably the grammys is the last time that i had like four people on different planes talking to me and i was like oh my god i am so vizen guys i'm a new person i don't know how the hell like listening to that guy try to talk to us the producer over the show i'm like i can't he's like can you hear what i'm saying i'm like no like no and i was like nodding my head yes i was like totally i can hear the questions you're saying i'm like i i yeah i can't compute two different things at once in my
Starting point is 00:05:53 like tiny tiny brain and this is why i always get so mad when they're like you know what this person who won survivor is now the new host of whatever and you're like it actually is a skill that you need to spend like many years figuring out how to talk and have three things going on your brain but anyway i thought we did great we've already received emails to our email on our website so people clearly saw us and were like, I want to get the book. I saw you on GMA. You should put my daughter on your network, like all those kinds of things. So that's exciting. That means people were listening. And did you see that, you know, you know how I was like obsessed with the Times Square billboard. They put our book on the little GMA billboard. I knew you would be. Oh, wait,
Starting point is 00:06:34 what? The beginning of the clip they talk about and, and act like a lady is a New York times bestseller in the camera on the exterior of the studio it's on the billboard above gma there we go we got our billboard kelty i cried a little five seconds but we got it i cried i was like oh my god we did it do you think there was anyone there in real time that captured a photo no definitely but that's just the thing you guys now you're always like this both no i don't want a photo i'm joking i don't know what i would do with that photo i i also don't care i think i could do with that photo i want to be reposted on an instagram story i would like that photo is it like i feel like the book is anybody teeny in there no it's huge no it's huge it's just the
Starting point is 00:07:21 oh it's just the book wow yeah yeah like honestly i can't believe your parents aren't in new york right now taking a photo like my mom you guys what is she is up she texted me right after it was done being like how was it oh my god at 5 50 in the morning well because my whole uh family text chain my mom like told them about it so then I started getting texts like my little like 10 year old cousin watched it he was so excited so I think my mom was probably up and making sure I didn't something up so well you know what I stood up I went upstairs and Chris was like how was it and I was like I didn't say anything like horrible like I was so proud of myself I was like, I didn't say off. Did I talk over somebody though? At some point,
Starting point is 00:08:04 one of the hosts. Yeah. But it's hard. Cause we couldn't actually see them. Yeah. I was like, I think you did great. Actually. I was also, while I was getting in my sweatpants track, I was thinking about you and my dream. I had this dream. No, I was thinking about you. And I, I always am, am filled with this. Um, Oh, I'm getting a text. Nice job on GMA from one of the ET producers. Um, I, I always have this like really motherly pride. Like I kind of understand what it feels like to be May when you go on television because Becca, like I expect her, she's like smooth, cool as a cucumber. Like she's done this a million times and like me, I'm awful, even though it's my job, but like you, like, I'm always really, cause you're always really
Starting point is 00:08:49 nervous before. Like, you'll be like, what was it? What am I? Yeah. Kind of like have this like pre and then you go on and you're like miss america like you know michael let me tell you about my breakfast like you you always turn it up and i i am so proud of you jack because like i sometimes forget that like i don't do this well now you do like now you can't use that excuse it's been five years you do this yeah you do it now but i'm always really proud of you because you're always just like so nervous beforehand. Like you're like a little better. I think I like not projecting our nerves just from like the showbiz of it, you know? Yeah, no, that's how I've always been. Like when I used to do cheerleader tryouts, I would be like shit in my
Starting point is 00:09:32 pants. And then it's like the second you go out there, it's like the same thing with our live shows. Like I'm literally have my nervous poop. And then the second we go out there, I'm like, this is fun. Let's take a shot. So at least my nerves don't transfer onto the actual thing that we're doing true yes true true okay we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back the lady gang and we're back um guys it is what are you are you doing july 4th weekend jack are you going on a trip are we going to include the part where we came back from the commercial break and kelty was like i don't have anything else i've got nothing left she's like well this is originally was going to be something else but it now is the gma six o'clock in the morning quickie
Starting point is 00:10:19 so i like a change of ideas um but it is july 2nd which is exciting i can't believe it's july like we've been in our houses since march march april may june five months and i'm thriving i've never been nice have you are you really thriving being home Mm-hmm. Yeah. I'm going to jump in here and say that that's a new development. For the first four months, you were a nightmare. Yeah. I'm getting really good at it, but I also think it's because I have changed my therapist. So I always saw a psychologist and they're the ones that can like give you drugs and- Oh, a psychiatrist. That's a psychiatrist. Sorry. Yes. A psychiatrist. And she was lovely and amazing and definitely
Starting point is 00:11:05 helped me through stuff. But then I realized I need tools. You know what I mean? It's great to talk to someone once a week and kind of spill your guts, but what am I doing to really have tools and have thoughts? So I have this new woman named Kiera. I don't know if you're allowed to say it. I can say whatever. You're allowed to say it. She's not. HIPAA doesn't go that way. anyway so it's like earth shattering um i really love her and she is like at she's asking me these questions i guess this is what therapy is but the last time i went to this kind of therapy i went um after ryan ross and i broke up and i was very codependent um and like had to figure out how to like myself you know and this is like a different anyway so it's been just amazing
Starting point is 00:11:58 and she's asking me all these questions and she said something to me and she's like it's only the end if you say it's the end what salty i have to say a few things i actually texted you the same exact sentiment when you're like having a spiral about your life and i said no but isn't it isn't it so much better when it comes from some of your pain yeah it is um but i'll also say that um now i'm really glad you have this woman because hopefully you won't take to social media or Facebook to, um, talk about everything you're going through. Um, emotionally, hopefully the celt down can happen in therapy and not in the Facebook
Starting point is 00:12:39 group. I need an outlet. I need an outlet. And Chris isn't a big talker and you need someone that is like, you're, it's almost like she realized. So we were talking to not this week, this week was about something else. But last week she was like, every time you talk about yourself, you then make this face like.
Starting point is 00:12:56 like an ugly face, an ugly face. Like, she's like, you, you say something like, well, I'm just like, that's just how I am. I'm just, I'm, you know, and she's like, you, you almost, you're so mean to yourself and you quantify yourself as like this really horrible, bad person. But she's like, nothing is like good or bad. Like no one is 100% good and no one's 100% bad. And she's like, so when you quantify yourself as saying, well, I'm just the bitch. I'm bad. I'm selfish. I don't want to see people. I want to be by myself because I'm a dick. She's like, every time you do that, you make this nasty face. And she was like, you're not all good or not all bad. And then we just get into these talks and I'm like, wow. And I feel so good, guys. I feel it. Well, I'm glad you feel
Starting point is 00:13:46 good because you actually did an insta story last night um an excerpt from a book and it was like the most intense thing ever and you're like it me it's like some days i'm a patchwork of all the worst qualities that i am and i lay in bed at night and i want to die like it's beautiful have have uh spoken she picks the most intense intense parts of a book and she thinks everybody can relate but they can't no and then me and becca have to go offline and be like is kelty okay like when you were googling sad illustrations oh my god you guys are doing a whole entire insta story of things that of eyeballs popping out of mouths jack and i jack and i texted each other and we're like what's going on on kelty's instagram it was just story after story with no
Starting point is 00:14:39 explanation of just sad illustrations like a line drawing of a sad woman with her hair in front of face and a puppy. Or no face at all. Or no face at all. And I was like, is she just sitting there Googling like sad illustrations? And then Kelsey goes, no, I just revamped my Pinterest board. I did. Okay. I'm just going to like let you guys know. So I did revamp my Pinterest board. Thank you. And I have this board called art and I was looking at the art and I think I like probably pinned a couple of sort of emo pieces of art and then that's all it was showing me so I just kept pinning them and I was like oh my god art is amazing like I just I've always been into quotes I didn't even realize art could make me feel and so then that's where that came from like it really
Starting point is 00:15:24 I was I mean I was not great but like I wasn't like I wasn't sad woman with like a line drawing of hair like I wasn't at that level well Kelty the thing is usually you express yourself in that way so we assumed that you were sad line drawing with no face cry for a help let me tell let me just read you the quote from sam lansky's book broken people which is so wonderful the title alone good lord he said and this is how life goes there will be times where you feel like nothing more than a patchwork quilt of all the worst parts of yourself and then there'll be times when the call to be better is just so lovely and clear like a bell ringing at frequency all the voices like a bell ringing at a frequency all the voices that keep you up at night can't hear
Starting point is 00:16:09 that's beautiful i mean sure to be honest though i gotta i gotta say like as sad as i've ever been i've never felt like a patchwork quilt of all the worst qualities like that's intense but that is intense i guess i haven't also like a like an editor at time magazine so i think he's like well no I mean that's all I guess if you've had a lot of trauma I mean who am I to say well the book the book is about him getting clean like from drugs so he's you know and actually the book is about going on an ayahuasca journey interesting and so a lot of this is like his it's not a delusion when you're on that journey hallucinations a lot of the book is his hallucinations about himself. So maybe, you know, listen, I can't remember exactly what part
Starting point is 00:17:01 that was. Cause I definitely, I mean, you can call it a scam. Um, no, I didn't, I read it, but anyway, it was really awesome. And he's a friend of mine. So I was like proud of him for reading the book. And I wanted to figure out a way to promote the book that, you know, people would get into. And I guess, you know, it's like take the saddest. So I took like the most emo part. And it's like, what's worse than hearing a dream described an entire book of someone's trip or drug trip oh my god the book's good i'm just kidding i'm sure it's good yeah he's great um i like you identify with broken people kelty broken i know that's you know what it's almost like i'm like grasping at straws sometimes like for a sadness like i'm like yeah i should feel
Starting point is 00:17:40 i should have something more sad in my life like i'm you're gonna will something you will will something kelty the manifestations like it's that actually when you want to have like a paranormal experience and you open yourself up to it and you allow like that energy to be in you now you're opening yourself up to all the manifestations and then you're gonna manifest something yeah it's true except i think her like intention with wanting something fucked up is like to get press about it so oh yeah it's like this may not yeah you want the article the people article we are dicks i mean i did manifest my car accident it had nothing it had nothing to do with the press um but i do i did think about get an article about the car crash
Starting point is 00:18:27 yeah of course i mean and i went on the talk to talk about it was very traumatic for me and it was a slow news week obviously but no i i actually thought about that car crash i was like one of these days i'm going to crash this car on this road for like four years and then i did so oh god my sister's facetiming me oh what'd she say let's see her review let me see oh hi wait hi hi you're being recorded on the podcast but the girls are desperate for your feedback yes i loved it i thought it was great i thought it was short and sweet and I thought y'all looked amazing thank you you want my full disclosure yeah I missed it my friend had to record it and send it to me see this is how much my family cares meanwhile Jack's mom is up
Starting point is 00:19:25 right now and she can't even watch it but she just needed to be up for more hours Jack's mom is flying to New York to thank Michael Strahan I just didn't know it okay all right well thanks for your support. I loved it. Proud of y'all. Thanks. I'll call you later. Bye. All right. On that note, thank you for tuning into GMA and thank you for everyone that submitted fan questions. That was so cool. There were so many good ones. Yeah, I know. I wish we had just been able to sit there for half an hour and do them. Maybe we should take the other ones and do some sort of video with them. Yeah. Or answer it on the podcast. Yeah, we were not in charge of what they picked. So thank you to everyone that did that. And thanks for jumping in and talking
