It's time for a quickie podcast one presents the lady gang the hollywood girl posse with
lady gang quickie here's kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanik let's make this quick
hello hello hello welcome to lady and quickie i am becca here with jack and kelty hello hello
everyone. Welcome to my birthday episode. No, I was just saying like, I, I love, I hate the passage
of time, but I love the passage of time because, and because I'm, you know, not to say I'm the best
at recording life, but because I journal, I have so much like written nonsense about where I was
at different points of my life mentally, like that no one knows. And so, you know, here I am
turning 41 and it's so crazy to me that a year has passed, um, since my big four Oh, and I truly,
if you'd asked me on January 27th, like was, and I wrote about in the book, devastated to turn 40
thought my life was over, was like, Oh, my career is over. This is like the best has been and what's
coming will just be whatever. And 40 was a very difficult year for me for a lot of things behind
the scenes, but it was the best year. I think Kelty at 40 is my favorite Kelty. She is doing
her best. She's not perfect, but I really liked 40 overall, just reflecting on the year. Really
good things happened to me. I got like a really cool job offer out of the blue. Wasn't even trying
like, you know, after years of hard work, like, I mean, it's not without its challenges of course,
but like, I don't know why I was so scared of being 40. Like, I think I'm, I'm, I'm doing okay.
Because it's scary in general as a woman, just no matter what societally, but then in entertainment,
it is the scariest place to live. If you are a woman who loves her career and you are about to
be 40 it's not real it's all made up it's all like this weird you know pressure we put on ourselves
but you're it makes perfect sense why you were terrified to be 40 like we're given sent the
message constantly that we're like useless after 40 but you and your long hair on e-news and your
kilt walks they are saying something quite different about 40 to the entertainment industry
okay we're crushing it we have not talked about this yet but i've talked to jared about it many
times mostly anytime you post an instagram reels of your outfit i'm like every twice a day every
day yes yeah multiple times a day yeah um i was like kelty is thriving right now i'm like this
is you like in your like happy place like you are wearing the outfits you're doing your catwalks
you're getting the hair and makeup you're on tv everybody is seeing you do the things i'm like
this is where you truly thrive. I'm like, I, that is my actual version of hell, like personally,
but I'm like, that is where you thrive. And it's really a permeating through everything
that you're doing. So I'm happy for, I'm very happy for you with this new job.
Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think that that's like really what it is, is like, you're doing exactly
what you want to be doing, which is a little bit of moderation. Yeah. If you think about it,
you're getting to do lady gang but you're not like living sleeping breathing stalking lady gang
you're like doing it feeling good and then you get to go be beautiful do all the things like
jack was saying that you love to do work a little bit be around really fancy famous people and then
like also you're thriving at home so yeah this is your best era i was also gonna say like i think
you need to be around celebrities like i think that there's something that like you need like
that, that fulfills something in you to like be amongst the celebs. Yeah. I mean, I gotta be
honest. The celebrities, celebs are, they're not as exciting as they used to be. No, but like,
like even like when I was at the Palm Springs festival, which is amazing, but it's like kind
of the start of award season. And like, I have been there in the past where I'm like,
let me interview Brad Pitt. Let me interview, um, let me interview Julia Roberts. And,
um, and like, you know, and this year it was like Austin Butler, who's amazing, but like,
it's not Brad Pitt. You know what I mean? Like, it was just, it's a different kind of award season.
And I think like, again, we're past that like golden age of like, where there's a star for
everyone. Like, you know, like it's so funny, like on Tik TOK, it's like, nobody cares about
Michelle Williams. And yet she's like an A-list celebrity who, you know, is an Oscar winner and
like people do, you know? So it's like, I'm such an interesting thing, but I do like to be
in the middle of the game. Yes. I think, I think at my heart of hearts, I am still a fierce
competitor at this game of life. And it was, I mean, I did have everyone muted, so I didn't
really know what was going on, but like, I like to be in the middle of the game at this career.
Like I like to be at the things, but I'm not at all the things, which is perfect. Like I did
Palm Springs, but I didn't do the Golden Globes. And like, I'm doing Critics' Choice, you know,
but I'm not doing the Oscars. Like it's, it's actually the perfect amount. You're absolutely
right. Moderation is key. Because if you were doing all the things, you would be desensitized
already. Well, and you'd be burnt out and you wouldn't be doing any of the other things in
your life properly. And it would be where you used to be like back in the day and where you're just
like scrounging, like trying to like make it through. Yeah. Right. Exactly. So, you know,
and then, and then on the flip side of it, 40 was really difficult. Like I, um, I just went home
for, for Christmas and I was, you know, in my, you know, expectations versus reality where you're
like, Oh, like this is what's going to happen at the end of the year, new year's. Like I went home
and I was really hoping that things with my brother, like we've just worked so hard for him
this year. And I was hoping I would like get off that plane and I'd be like, you're fixed. You
You know what I mean? Like, Oh my God. Yay. Like I did it. I set my mind to like getting you great.
And it wasn't like, he's not there. And it was really hard. And it's like with the good comes
the bad. But I think what is nice about this era of my life is that with the moderation,
it still gives me time for my family and time to do the other things. You know what I mean?
So it's not all like all or none or this, like, I know this is going to be hard for a long time,
but I'm like, okay with, you know, make slicing time out of my life every day to help and be
around, you know, something that's like come up a lot that sort of like touches on this. I don't
know if it was like it, it wasn't in the Jonah Hill stats thing. Maybe it was, but then I've
been listening to him, the psychiatrist on a bunch of different podcasts and like mediums or whatever.
And I had the same like weird expectations in a different way for like holidays. You know,
I think the reason I've hated Christmas so much is because I learned so early on that it was like
never meets the expectations that you have in your mind. And that's what it is, is like the
snapshot. So Stutz talks about having like in our minds, we have this one dimensional snapshot of
what we think is going to make us happy, the perfect Christmas or the perfect job, the perfect
this. It doesn't exist. And when you get it, you're like, wait a second, this isn't perfect.
It doesn't feel perfect. And there's like all these tools. It's amazing. But the little thing
that resonated with me was like, happiness is finding the little moments of happiness is like
the little moments throughout your day. That's happiness. It's not like this one big grand
arrival at this thing that you've wanted. So like over the holidays, it's trying to figure out that
like, yeah, 90% of that is just hustle bustle bullshit. But then there's 10% where you're like
sitting in your kitchen with your family and you're like whoa we're all together right now
you know we're all in the same place right now and we're like laughing and eating olive oil cake
that little tiny moment you have to do an olive oil cake guys it's a journey the best it's the
best cake even the one i fucked up didn't hit up it was amazing delicious i'll talk about on another
episode but it's finding those little moments and i think that's also part of like growing up and
getting older is you're better at that like you know kelty that this e-news job is like you were
not like this is the snapshot of my favorite perfect whatever you're like it's gonna be a
job and i'm gonna thrive because it's what i do really well and i'm gonna like enjoy the people
more and i'm gonna enjoy my outfits and i love the fashion so i'm gonna lean into that moments
of the fashion so you've done a really good job i feel like of not falling into that like
snapshot bullshit anymore. Well, even, even you like negotiating your contract for that job where
you wanted a limited number of hours, it's like you have this self-awareness to be like, this job
isn't going to fulfill whatever the cracks of my life that I have. Like, this is just something
that I feel like I need for myself to feel normal. And I feel like you've done, you really are the
best version of yourself this year. Like, I think that we've seen so much growth from you and
especially in a lot of tough moments with us on tour and things going awry and like a whole lot
of bullshit like the kelty back in the day reacting to some of the shit that went on when
we're all together would have been a fucking nightmare like yeah it would have been like a
hurricane and you you've just done such a good job at balancing a lot in your life including like
your emotional response to a lot of things so you should feel very proud of yourself
because 41 Kelty will be even better.
It's going to be even better.
I mean, I do miss the like 25-year-old Kelty singing,
hey, Mickey, you're so fine in a New York City audition studio.
I mean, I'd give big money to see that.

The Lady Gang.
I did my real like fully manifesting on the 31st
and my first one is like hold my posture like a ballerina
and my word for the year is ballet core.
And so I, like everything I do is like, is ballet core.
Like I, cause I did the avatar premiere and I saw Zoe Saldana come down the red carpet.
And I mean, yes, is she the most beautiful person on the planet?
Of course.
But like the way she holds herself and she just has like such a gracefulness from her
dance career.
And like, it's just so beautiful.
Like, you know, she doesn't, it's just the way that she just exists in a space is so
lovely.
And I just really want that for myself.
So I started taking, um, well, I, you obviously sound on Instagram, but I started taking Broadway
dance center, like live stream classes. They have a camera in the corner. Becky won't believe this.
We used to go to BDC all the time back in the day. They have a camera in the corner. So like,
while they're teaching the ballet bar, there's actual people in the class. You're just like
tuning in. You can have your camera on, you can have your camera off. And I have like never been
happier in my life. Like it is, I am meant to be ballet core. I love it so much. And I was doing,
I'm doing like a ballet bar once a week and I'm doing the ballet bar and it was like it's like
I'm in a black hole of time like it's like an hour and a half goes by and it's like nothing
I have not thought about work I have not like I can't meditate I sit there and I'm like I hate
this so much I can't meditate slow down your brain you suck at meditating like this is ballet
a ballet bar and a ballet class is the meditation for me and I really am happy I'm doing it I love
that and next I want Becca and I to do a musical theater class from home put on your ladukas do
still have them. I have nowhere to do this. You have a whole gym in your... What's a musical theater
class? Maybe when you come to LA. Well, Jack, it's like if we were dancing to Hamilton,
your favorite musical. I don't want to dance to Hamilton. I want to listen to it in my car.
You can sit in the corner and cry. I will. But yeah, now that I know that Broadway Dance Center
has these classes, I am going to try to dance more. I'm happy when I'm dancing. And I don't
know. It's also the Prozac, guys. You're in your flow. I'm in my flow. It's Prozac and dancing.
it's Prozac
I love that
it's you know
like
is that the theme
for 41
Prozac and Dancing
Prozac and Dancing
I'm gonna
just put that
in my bujo right now
that's the title
of this episode
yeah
and I will say
like it's not
without fault
like I totally
f***ed the Lady Game
book club this month
like we didn't
choose the book
until way too late
and then we chose
Spare by Prince Harry
and no one could get it
because you're like
I'm number 1400
at the library on hold
like you know
so I kind of f***ed up
but it's fine
we're gonna
you know
not everything can be
perfect all the time
can i ask you a question about the prince harry book there was like a viral tiktok moment going
on about him talking about his penis and uh i haven't got to that part yet yeah but him like
he was like somebody told me to put nivia on it but nivia is what my mom used to use
so i decided to do it and when i opened the jar i got all these like emotions of emotions about
my mom, but then I stroked my penis with like, it was very bizarre. Yeah. Um, so the book is
incredible. I'm only a third way through and I just have to say, I mean, they've been trying
to change the perception of like them and Megan and you know, I'm a Royalist and I love the Rose
and I know a lot of people don't care about it, but so I'll be fast. But, um, all the things
they've done, like the Oprah interview did not hit the way that it meant it was supposed to hit
where you were like, I really understand where this guy's coming from and where Megan's coming
from. The book absolutely does. Like this is someone who at 12 years old, his mother was,
was killed. And he, for seven, five to seven years after that thought that she had chosen
to go missing and was hiding out until the paparazzi was going to leave her alone.
and she was going to come get the brothers again. Like he, who told him that he made it up in his
mind. There was, it was like your mom, Prince Charles comes in, puts his hand on his knee,
says your mom is dead. And then like he leaves no therapy. He's never hugged his grandmother.
You don't hug in the royal family. No, no one helped him. It was like she died. And then no
one spoke of it. He had one friend at school who asked about the mom. William didn't speak about
it. Charles didn't speak about it. No one spoke about this thing. And he was 12 years old. He is
so brutally traumatized by this. So it's like the entire book is him like coming to terms with his
mom did not run away to get, find safety. And then was going to come back and get him. He held
onto that for so long. And then it's basically like every single thing when he has his picture
taken when the paparazzi is around him being on a boat, like anything that he did with his mom
is like laser done into his brain. And it is so triggering for him. Like he has never dealt until
he met Megan. He never dealt with anything. He was like crazy into drugs, crazy and alcohol
avoidance. He knew from the moment. This is like half of the American people's story. This is why
I'm not like upset for him because this is what people go through on a daily basis all over the
world. And they're also not rich and famous. People's parents die all the time. People don't
get treatment for the trauma. People go to have to do things that are triggered by the dead people
that they think about. Like I, I, I just for like a moment want to remember like the perspective of
everything. Like, yes, this is his story and I know everything is relative and this is his
experience, but it's also like, okay, but everybody has trauma. Everybody has had something
on the spectrum of awful things to have happened in your life station. His is not that bad.
For sure. And it's because I love the Royals and I love Harry. And it's so crazy. When Harry got
born. Do you know what Charles said to Diana? Allegedly. Yes. His mom told him this. So
allegedly your mother's telling you something about the man she hates. Okay. Go on. He said,
Oh, my job's done. I gave you an air and a spare. That's where spare came from. Right. The whole
family, grandma, the aunties, everyone literally called him spare, but that's fine. People like
Zach's older sister
Zach was an accident
and they called him
the accident
you know what I mean
like that's what
your fucking family does
they joke about shit
anyway
so
40's been great
love the rules
happy birthday to Becca
happy birthday to Kelty
um
Jack we
I still don't know
when your birthday is
but that's okay
um
we weren't here
for a long time
but
no
we were here
for a long time
yeah
thanks for listening
