Hi, I'm Barbara aka your nursing educator on Instagram. I'm a registered nurse and I make
content that's all about helping nursing students thrive. One of the first and easiest things I tell
nursing students, if you haven't already done so, upgrade your scrubs to figs. Out with these stiff
boxy scrubs, in with the ridiculously comfy well-designed figs that were specifically designed
with us in mind. They're super soft, lightweight, and breathable with four-way stretch and moisture
wicking fabric that keeps up during long shifts pockets are exactly where you need them the fit
feels modern and tailored and they hold their shape wash after wash whether you're in class
at clinical or working the floor you deserve scrubs that work as hard as you do go to
wearfigs.com and use code figs ca for 15 off your first order that's wearfigs.com code figs ca
hey guys the following podcast is a lady gang network and podcast one production which means
It's going to be awesome.
It's time for a quickie.
Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, the Hollywood girl posse with Lady Gang Quickie.
Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek.
Let's make this quick.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The Lady Gang.
I'm Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight.
Hello.
Oh, my gosh.
It is a fabulous day.
First week of December.
We're finally at the end of the year.
Are you happy?
I know.
This would be a good time to do an end of the year episode.
It's so lucky that you say that since we are doing end of the year episodes starting
next week.
Did we not already do our end of the year episode in August?
I think we did one in like July.
Is it December 3rd?
it's december 5th oh this is a quickie yeah i did an intro like a normal episode how do you do this
oh wow i didn't realize after all this time that there's a different you want to take it again
or we know let's just keep going it's on thursday people know this is a quickie yeah i'm not gonna
get it's quick um we've had quite a year and one of the things it's just been quite a year um i'm
so i always get a little melancholy around christmas because i think of the cannon crow
song long december and there's reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last but
i have nothing to complain about it's a pretty good year um okay well speaking of christmas
shopping have you done any yet no but i are you an amazon i bet you're like an amazon every week
week before no well my present to my parents is uh is my presence um no we know but we're going
to whistler for christmas so i bought their trip and i'm paying for the hotel cute yeah i like an
experience over like a materialistic thing um we're like a sentimental gift so haven't started
making those yet oh it will come what is are we getting a sentimental no thank you i was actually
just like not need a craft in my house my crafts are good and like jared loves anything i do it's
like you basically are marrying your parents um i put up a christmas tree and last year my mother-in-law
like cleaned out her uh garage and like kind of came over and left like this whole box of like
christmas ornaments and holy they're so ugly it is so brutal you guys i didn't open them till this
year and i opened them and i was like i love chris but like i'm not putting this styrofoam ball that
you put like a goddamn pipe cleaner nose in oh my god she's officially like giving you the stuff he
made as a child yes no it's dark right that belongs on mom's tree mom's tree can't be
grandma gets the weird tree yeah and she had like them all color-coded like between her brother
chris had white red stamps and she and they're like the year that he made them like it was
beautiful and i was like no so i picked like five it was beautiful so i was like no i picked like
five that were like wooden and like okay and like hit them in the back and then like put out my
beautiful like other i don't even put my childhood crafts up they're too ugly they're so also i think
it's weird to be given your childhood crafts before your parents die yeah well that's not
something like you like your child's crafts you don't like your own childhood crafts like that's
not something oh my god mr styrofoam like let's put this one up in the front i think my mom gave
my sister a couple once once she had children because then the kids are like oh mommy but like
you and chris are gonna like sit this morning and like look at each other's ornaments you made when
you're six or are we your macaroni oh my god there was a macaroni thing it was a macaroni cross that
was like gold out of like the um the flat ones and then the tortellini and i was like no and
then i picked it up it cracked and i was like oh sorry this one's going to the trash okay when we
come back this episode of the quickie is called splurge versus save and we're gonna talk about
dollars. Okay. We're back. So what I wanted to talk to you about on this episode is money and
things, how you spend your money, what you splurge on, what you don't in a bunch of different
categories. I have it all organized. If you're a lover of organization, you're going to love this
episode. So first thing is health. What is one thing that comes to health that you absolutely
spend all the money in the world on? And then what is one thing that you're like, it's fine.
And I'll drink the water out of this well.
Health.
Exercise.
I definitely spend a good amount of money on like exercise.
Your classes.
Yoga and classes.
Because I know that like I won't do that sort of thing on my own.
So I have to do that to make myself accountable.
And I'm pretty particular about food.
Like when we grocery shop I'm definitely not like a bargain shopper.
Because I want something that's good quality.
because like I'm eating it after all um does this count as like beauty or just health beauty's its
own category this is health I don't know I gotta think health is well jack health is well well for
health for me like I will I'm the idiot that will buy like three hundred dollars worth of supplements
and then eat cookies for dinner so that's where I splurge and where I save that's what I used to
do that like I used to do the with the expensive workout classes and the supplements I used to
spend all of my money on health when i thought that there was like something wrong with me
and then now that i'm like whatever i'll just eat a sandwich a sandwich every meal i don't know i
can't think of what i spend a lot on although we've discussed this but you really do need to
be doing nitrite free deli meat i know but that's also an exaggeration i probably have a sandwich
once a week okay oh okay well don't lie about your sandwich intake then you know you know it's now
it's like we're just trying to help you and when you're like i eat a sandwich every day
we're feeling worried yeah we're feeling worried about your salt intake about the salt's okay okay
i was worried salt's okay you never know salt's good salt's bad you don't know when it's actually
that i need more salt because i have low blood low blood pressure what what are you eating the
other days i thought this was sandwich yeah what are you doing the other days like what are you
eating today for lunch salad oh okay i usually do a salad but like a chicken in a salad does
that have nitrite in it no so deli meats are pure like the number one nitrite having situation i
don't know much so they're slippery which is just weird i don't like a slippery meat okay splurge
versus save beauty category now let me give you an overview of your categories okay fashion beauty
makeup home food gifts office so beauty facials yeah that's well that's what i was gonna say i
I get a facial every single month and Dr. Diamond and filler in a Botox situation.
And microblading is also a pretty big splurge.
And what's your save?
Beauty.
Ooh, mascara.
Oh, same.
Drugstore mascara.
Drugstore mascara.
I don't think the mascara gets any better the more expensive it is.
I agree.
five dollar revlon mascara does the trick yeah i agree that would be mine too that's probably like
the least expensive thing that i do in beauty oh and also i mean everything i spend so much in
beauty like a manicure pedicure oh i can't do those i tried for that year to do my own at my
own with my own pit and then you forgot to do one hand though i'm doing lady gang tv
I only had one hand.
Like, what was I doing?
I hate doing my own nails.
I can't achieve what –
I can't achieve it, and then I spend all week picking it off,
and I just have to go next week.
I'm like, let me just, like, sit here for a second.
My beauty, I agree.
I will spend money on massages and facials because I love to get a massage,
and it's one of the only times all I calm the fuck down.
And then my save is my skin food cream that I love,
which I've recently added a serum underneath because I got a facial,
and she was like, you need to be doing a serum and your lotion.
You know what?
I used that last night because my skin has been very dry from traveling recently,
and then I took it off after 20 minutes because I was scared it was going to break out.
It's breakout nation for me.
It feels so good, and then I'm like, this is too good.
Yeah.
You have to have very specific skin.
Yeah.
You have to have done Accutane.
Accutane.
Yeah.
Anyway, I love it, so it's $11.
Makeup.
Oh, well, that was one.
Oh, yeah, that was.
you guys didn't stick to the categories like i told you to i will say the splurge is if you have
an extra hundred dollars lying around and you're someone who likes to wear foundation
i don't wear foundation on a daily basis unless i'm working but the tom ford foundation stick is
the most beautiful foundation i've ever seen in my life coverage for me it's no i'm saying if you
need a foundation if you're someone that wants to beat the face and wear the foundation that
foundation is gorgeous and you can also cut it with a little bit of moisturizer to make it lighter
and it's lovely um mine well i'm trying to figure out i do like the it cosmetics baby cream it's
amazing and it's cheap it's not like cheap cheap but it's like it's affordable it's not like chanel
or tom ford um and i also like burt's bees has that tinted chapstick i was gonna say burt's bees
yeah that burt's bees some girl made a post in the facebook group about she's like no chapstick
works and everybody was saying
the Burt's Bees was like the only one that does.
But it doesn't work.
Yes, it does. And it's got like the little
minty. I like a mint, a menthol.
It's the only thing that actually makes my lips not feel
dry and disgusting. Do you think
that if you would have never started putting
Lip Chap on, like the wives tale, that you
would not have dry lips? No, I think that
it's just reality. It's just life, right?
I'm getting older. It's just a dark time.
Yeah. My
splurge is
Are you Googling it? Well, I
couldn't remember what the brand was if you want lighter coverage foundation pericone md their no
makeup serum is the bomb it's just like oh and you mix it with your lotion yeah put it on and
it just kind of color corrects without too much because i don't like i hate wearing makeup so
that's the only thing that i oh i love this and my save is that i think a drugstore cheapy lash
is the best lash like for years i was like oh i'm gonna get my lashes done get lash extensions i've
had the lash perms i've had the lash tinting like just can curl your lash put your six dollar
mascara on plop four little individuals from the ardell or whatever is 5.99 at the drugstore and
call it a day yeah i've washed it off at night i have one more save and this is more i guess of a
beauty one is sheet masks at sephora they'll sell sheet masks for like 20 bucks but you can basically
get the same thing at like cvs for two dollars yeah they're all the same they're all the same
told me that it's just serum on there yeah so you could actually get the same thing if you just
literally went pump pump pump serum on my face splurge for beauty is the lemare sheet mask though
they really have a magic formula for hydration that like no one's been able to figure out no
it's like known in the beauty industry they have like some sort of like whatever chemically perfect
hydration is it the same in the sheet mask as in the cream yeah in some of them but it's like a
different which is one sheet mask though a set of like five of them is a hundred dollars so every
time i do it it has to be a very special occasion but i'm telling you it is the best and what does
it feel like after your skin is so hydrated i need that right now it's plump and it's gorge
yeah yeah okay gorge home splurge and save oh i splurge on good sheets well good mattress number
one you spend a third of your life in bed you might as well have a good mattress brooklinen
and i have brooklinen the brooklinen linen sheets and the luxe ones are so good yes well i'm a big
linen fan i like linen sheets so dirty what i'm getting really like super dirty no um but linen
sheets are expensive and i think it's worth i think it's worth the splurge what's your save at
home i don't know let me think i know my save what my save at home is that i cut all my dish soap
with half water because you don't need if you're a regular person who's like barely cooking you
don't need that concentrated of dish soap so i have like a dish soap dispenser and i fill it
half with dish soap half with water and then i make it last longer because i'm a cheap motherfucker
what a weird thing to do um mine is definitely just the housekeeper because splurge that is
I cannot live without I mean I could and that's totally a terrible thing to say but I have to
have that I do not clean well well you don't realize how non-meticulous you are until you
have a cleaning lady come over and you're like wow I haven't touched these walls in yeah I mean
there's certain parts of cleaning my house that I love but the things I don't love I can't make
myself do yeah I agree yeah it's my splurge too yeah it's having someone to help it's just there's
something I mean we're dicks for sure but I'm only using half of my dishwashing detergent you're
saving five dollars every two months no but Chris and I used to fight all the time about things at
home and I'd be like we can't go out on Saturday I mean now I'm like we just can't go out but like
before i was like we can't go out on saturday because i have to like be cleaning up blah blah
and now we don't have an excuse not to go out yeah my excuse is just i don't have a weekly
weekly every friday damn oh she must come to me after you right she come in the morning yeah no
she comes oh my god we have the same day i do morning like 8 a.m yeah that's what i wanted
oh so glad that you took my girl and she's giving you the better did you always want that time
I always prefer morning.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Honestly, afternoon would be fine for me.
We could make a switch.
Okay.
We'll discuss.
We'll discuss.
Okay.
Next.
Our listeners are enthralled.
I only do every other week, though.
Oh, you do?
Yeah.
That's probably why I'm more consistent.
Okay.
Fashion.
Rude.
Rude.
That's our new thing.
I just yell at people.
Rude.
Rude.
Rude.
Fashion.
Splurge.
Shoes.
But such a stupid splurge.
Why do we do this?
I disagree.
I don't get ruined.
You can tell in an instant if someone's shoes are cheap or not.
Also, it's a price per wear.
I wear my shoes way more often than I'll wear like a certain pair of pants or a skirt or a blouse.
I don't get sick of shoes the way that I get sick of clothes.
Totally.
Like I wear my sneakers all the time.
Did you ever buy those Balenciaga ones that you wanted so bad?
No, because I cannot justify spending $900 on a pair of sneakers.
Yeah, good.
And Balenciaga is not gifting me anything.
And ugly sneakers at that.
I love them still.
Disgusting sneaker.
I still love them.
I can't splurge on a sneaker, but I can splurge on like a fancy shoe.
I can, well, here's, I can splurge on a bag or a shoe that's like a leather bag or a shoe
because I'm like, this leather is obviously nice quality.
I wouldn't be, like a Gucci shoe or a bag.
Right.
I cannot splurge on a Gucci sweatshirt that I know probably cost them $30 to make and
they're selling it for $1,500.
Mm-hmm.
That's, I don't know.
What's your save?
T-shirts?
I don't know like anything other than shoes okay and coats but also bras like this is your number
one I don't wear bras I know yeah so yeah you save a lot of money with that I do um except for
my third love bra uh I'm wearing my third love bra today I think it's comfy as hell it's the
only thing that looks good under a tight shirt okay uh my save is um like Zara and Mango like
Like, if I'm really craving something new and I'm like, God, I just want, like, a new dress or, like, a new whatever, I'm not going to, like, go to Barney's.
Ooh, R.I.P.
Ooh, R.I.P.
But I'll spend, like, $60 to $70 on, like, a cute little midi dress that I can wear with my expensive boots.
Right.
And then I kind of get it out of my system that I want something new.
You know what is a good brand that's also like that is Superdown.
It's one of the Revolve brands, but it's way cheaper and the quality is, like, the same.
Oh.
I boycott Revolve.
well i know but if if somebody you want to i'm not sure there's a brand that i dislike more
than revolve no it's two reasons number one they have revolve awards which is insane that's insane
that is absolutely insane favorite influencer that's can't be a thing it's and it is number
two if they send you a sock they ask you to post like 15 times about it yeah there you go okay
sorry Raul um try better do you have a save that's my save Zara or mango got it okay um I did a
mistake in 2019 what I tried to do a save on underwear I went to amazon.com and I was like
you know what I just want a big pack of underwear to have at work that like when I'm in emergency
and forget to bring some to wear under a pant because I changed so many times a day that
probably isn't normal but um and so i went on amazon and i got like the knockoff hanky
panky underwear like the lacy thong that looks the same and it's like 15 pack for like 24.99
yeah nope no not the same you wash no stretch it's gone like cardboard what is that up my
butthole it's of underwear like it's too aggressive i mean victoria's secret still
has five you can get five pairs for 25 bucks that's not that expensive yeah and they last
forever okay head on over they're spandexy ones food oh i mean i splurge anytime like i love going
out to eat i know that's something that you find very foreign kelty yeah but i'll splurge on a good
meal i'll splurge on a nice like sushi dinner yeah i would buy a 15 dollar like cheese but like
nothing else like a block of cheese fucking delicious like hollywood bowl it's the summer
i'm watching a concert i'm putting cheese on a rice cracker and it is like a smoked gouda
take me to like cheese smoked gouda is the thing smoked good is so good it's so good it's smoky
it's like a steak but it's a cheese i've never had a cheese i don't like i've had a cheese i
don't like i just got it last week it was a goat cheese with blueberries on it oh that sounds so
good it was not it's not the meeting of the flavors you want and it had also like rosemary
oh i hate rosemary well then you wouldn't have liked this cheese i told you okay i will spend
money on a cheese i uh i will spend money on an avocado like it's nobody's business and then that
thing will rot and i'll be like there's five dollars in the garbage i know it's the worst
feeling yeah but i'm like a dollar 19 for a golden delicious organic apple no way
even though that like apple would like well i got my groceries on amazon prime so
they're all overpriced i do not look at prices at the grocery store never really i'm like in my mind
how expensive could something possibly be like have you ever gotten the bill and been like whoa
yeah many times i'm like well that was you know aggressive but there was never an option and like
Like, for me, that's not where I'm going to be skimping.
Right.
Like, I'm just going to.
You're going to make it up in other ways.
I hate grocery shopping anyway.
I find that I treat myself when it's something I really fucking hate.
So I hate grocery shopping.
I hate doing.
I hate cooking at home.
So I'm like, if I'm going to have to do this, I'm going to make it as luxurious as I possibly can.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I'm going to get everything organic and not look at price tags.
All right.
So the very last thing.
She's so stressed.
I know.
I'm not stressed at all.
You've literally tried to cut me off five times during this episode.
Well, maybe that story wasn't good.
Oh, my God.
Oh, okay.
I quit.
What's one thing...
Borderline.
Last thing.
What's the one thing that you bought in your life and that you absolutely f***ing regret?
I don't know.
I'm trying to think.
You go first because you've obviously thought of these questions before.
Yeah.
I bought...
When I first moved to LA, I bought a Honda CR-V SUV, and I bought it off Craigslist,
and I knew like I got it and I was like yes it's $2,500 it's like the perfect car it's gonna last
forever and I got it and then I drove it for like a couple years and then I kept looking up and
there's like blood splatters on the ceiling and like I really should have looked further into
like where this car came from was there a murder in it I don't think it was murder but I like that
you went right to murder I think there's blood splatter usually means murder probably a car
accident and then it was like written off and then someone rebuilt it is my thought they left
the blood on it it was just a little splatter that's insane it was so weird and like it was
like you know how dried blood is actually like rust colored and it's not red yeah it's like
brown so i was like oh it's rust and i'm like that's fabric like there's not going to be rust
so okay that's mine cool story i don't think i have one i don't think i do either i can't think
of like a big purchase that i really regretted nothing i don't know maybe like anything i bought
for my ex-boyfriend but i can't really think of anything specific okay well great cool cool okay
cool um well the episode's over anyway so perfect we had more to talk about but i ran out of time
god damn it okay well we'll save these ideas for the next time okay bye-bye okay are you ready
