That's promo code LADY for $25 off your first box at dailyharvest.com. It's time for a quickie. Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, The Hollywood Girl Posse with Lady Gang Quickie. Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Let's make this quick. hello hello hello welcome to the lady gang i am becca here with jack and kelty
Starting point is 00:00:31 hello i'm sorry i'm eating i won't let you guys hear me chew but i'm eating because i'm on doxycycline but for another staph infection where do you have where's your staph infection My face. So a couple years ago, I had a sketchy facial and they used like a communal loofah on my face. And I had a little thing on my nose that looked like three little dots that I thought were pimples, but they just wouldn't go away. They got redder and angrier. And so I went to the urgent care. This was like in 2017 or something. They're like, oh, this is like staff. I remember this. This was on the podcast. Yes. And so I had to go on. It's an easy fix. Like it really isn't. If you catch it. Yeah. It sounds scarier than it is, but so they put you on
Starting point is 00:01:25 doxycycline and then like a topical. And so I, this has, this isn't anyone's fault, but I had like really sensitive skin from like a laser treatment thing that I did. And I think once you've had staph, it's always kind of like lingering. It's like the herpy virus. It just is always sitting in your body. It's just waiting. And so I think what happened is that my nails were really long because I had just had a gel manicure and I was too lazy to get it redone. And so they get super long with the gel. And I honestly think the bacteria under a long fingernail is what caused me to get staff on my face again is it in the same spot no it was on the forehead but I because I think like I was like touching it and I must have like dirt underneath my fingernails so
Starting point is 00:02:16 I immediately chopped my fingernails off because when you think about fingernails it is well I cut mine I chopped mine all off in the beginning of COVID but now they're back they're back and better than ever if you think about you probably have poop under there you probably have poop on your phone and probably honestly on your face somewhere there's poop particles living everywhere i mean it's not even ignorance is bliss just don't think i'm gonna pop my pill not on an empty stomach because i almost died the other day remember back in the day when we legit ate during the podcast all the time it was disgusting every episode we were chomping on something i know we always had snacks people liked us i know yeah i know thanks for sticking with us into this dry
Starting point is 00:02:57 season. I know. Dry COVID podcast. Well, I'm very excited about this episode because this has been an episode where we are getting asked the same questions over and over again, which is why am I moving? Why am I selling my house? Becca, why are you moving to Austin? Jack, why are you in a tiny apartment with Jerry? There's a lot of moving happening right now. So there's a lot of real estate issues happening. Um, and so I thought we should just do it as a full podcast because I, I know Becca, like you're getting asked a ton and I'm, I'm also getting asked a ton. Well, I don't read my DM, so I'm not getting asked at all. Well, you are, people are like, they're like, can you explain why is Becca going to Austin?
Starting point is 00:03:37 Is she going to be my friend in Austin? Like, and in a nice way. So Jack, let's begin with you because you are on the house hunt. Yeah. So I'm currently living in an 800 square foot apartment with Jared. Um, one bedroom, it's pretty tiny, but it's on the Marina. So it's beautiful. I'm looking at the water. Um, but you know, living in 800 square feet with my boyfriend for the last year has been tight. So we're looking for a house, but anybody that is looking for a house right now knows the housing market is super up and it's pretty much, especially in LA impossible to actually buy a house because it's so competitive there's nothing available so um i'm on the hunt i don't know if i'll find something anytime soon but i have a question for you as a friend
Starting point is 00:04:30 i see the inspiration and the like this is my dream house on your instagram stories which i've saved some of those like you've you've turned me on now i know as a fellow zillow like that snl Zillow skit, where it was like, what are you doing for porn? I was like, me? That house doesn't exist. Oh, I know this. So are you going to do a fixer? Yes. Nothing that is actually nice is in my price range at all. It will have to be a fixer no matter what. But even the fixers, people are snatching up and paying hundreds of thousands of dollars more than their listing price for literally pieces of shit that people are just going to knock down. Like it's crazy. I kind of got over the fact that like, I'm not going to find a house that I love. I'm going to have to do it myself,
Starting point is 00:05:19 which is great because I'm super picky and I want specific countertops and specific cabinets and all that shit, but still, still doesn't exist. Now for a while you were going between OC and LA. Have you decided what to, you also like the most expensive places on earth. I do. Yeah. I want to be in this little tiny plot of land in San Clemente, um, which is probably literally the most expensive square mile. Is that technically the country? Is that OC? It's like the beach moment. I've given up orange County because it's like, I only want this tiny little spot on the beach, like right on the beach. And it's never going to happen because I don't have $4 million. Um, not yet. Not yet. I'm going, well, this is my, this was my problem. I wanted to move to orange
Starting point is 00:06:03 County because we're in like the throes of COVID. There was nothing to do. LA was like a wasteland and I wanted to be by the beach. But now thinking about how the world is going to open up again, all I want to do is rage my face off once the world is open and I want to do all the things and all the things are in LA. And when Lady Gang starts doing our shit again, all of my work is up here. So it was kind of impractical for me to think that I wanted to go down to Orange County, but I think I'll be in LA for a little bit longer. Whoa, really? Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Well, that makes it, I feel like that's going to make it a little bit easier to find a house. Yeah. You could get over your area problem. I think we could find you a house. Yeah, I know. Well, now this is the thing.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I want these like specific. Now I want to be in the Silver Lake Hills or Franklin Hills, which is like tiny, tiny, tiny little area. That's where Chris's house used to be when we first started dating. Yeah, these are my problems. but whatever if it's if it presents itself to me then and it works out then it's meant to be but
Starting point is 00:07:07 i'm not gonna try to bend over backwards to fight over a house that is way overpriced yeah i don't think you want to be in franklin hills but i'll tell you why when we're not recording because it's boring for people who don't live in la okay becca let's talk about your relocation so we all saw us and the murder room on bravo's million dollar listing yeah you only had the house for a year. You worked pretty tirelessly on it to redo it. Totally furnished it. It was gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Yeah. Insane. And then all of a sudden you're like, I'm selling my house. I'm moving to Texas. Yeah. Surprise to the Kelty and I, it was a surprise. I remember the conversation we had. We're getting like a facial together and you're like, yeah, I'm moving to
Starting point is 00:07:50 Austin. We're like, what? Yeah. Well, I was like, shouldn't have we been in this conversation? Well, here's the thing. We always knew that we wouldn't stay in LA forever because our entire lives, our families, everybody that we love are on the East Coast. And it is so hard to make a weekend trip for Atlanta because the time change sucks. My parents still work. So my dad has to take off two days of the week if they want to come visit us. Or if we're going to be flying there, oh, and now that airlines have done away with emotional support animals, don't even get me started on that. I can't really like just hop on a plane and have Orly, you know, bring everybody home. It's a pain in the ass. And so we've always thought like maybe it's Nashville or maybe it's
Starting point is 00:08:46 Austin or maybe it's Atlanta. But those were sort of the places that were central enough and close enough to the people we loved and things we cared about. Well, COVID hits and already before COVID with acting, so much stuff is done remotely, like self-taping. You can do that from anywhere in the world and then you send your video into casting. And then if you get to the final round, then you fly in and you do a screen test or whatever. But with COVID, it just felt like, A, we realized with the podcast, we could do it remotely. We could get better guests by doing it remotely because people don't have to leave their houses. And then with acting, I was just like, well, Texas is the middle of the country, literally. So I could get on a plane and be two hours to LA,
Starting point is 00:09:26 two hours to Atlanta. And Zach has a lot of really good friends who live in Austin. We love the vibe of Austin. I think it's a cool place to raise a family. It's a little bit more our vibe than California. I love Austin so much. Yeah. I'm actually really excited for my weekend getaways to your house in Austin. Same. Like I'm already planning Jack and I coming down. And I know that you probably would hate South by Southwest, but I will now come to South by Southwest and stay at your house because you'll probably leave. I'll leave. But we're doing the whole design process again, which is even more fun because I've since every time I looked at my old house, I loved it so much, but there were things I was like, Oh, I could have done something
Starting point is 00:10:15 different in this room and now I get to do it in all the other rooms. And so tell us about the new house. Like, is it similar style? Is it a Spanish? Like, is it, do you have a baby nursery? Like what, what is it the difference? Do you have a lake, right? Just so you know, Jews do not make nurseries until babies are on the planet oh right right right yeah um yeah and you don't give gifts you don't do like a baby you don't do the whole thing i mean some jewish people do at this point because it's you know but my family is still very much like my sister did not have a single thing set up in her nursery before the baby came it's like a superstitious thing yeah so there's no nursery um there's it's a spanish style but it's a new build so it's we're only the second people
Starting point is 00:10:57 who will have lived in it. Cool. Um, so no ghosts, which is nice unless we're on land that has ghosts, you know, that's true. That's true. Can't rule it out. Uh, it's very bright. It's very airy. It's kind of, I don't know. It's, it's all one level, which I really like. I love a ranch house. I love a ranch house. That's my dream. You walk in the front door and you just look out to the beautiful, you know, Texas Hills and there's a little pool, the size of like a bathtub. Yeah. It's just sweet. And it's, I loved our old house, but I think with what, with kids and a family, it would have been harder. It's in the Hills that you can't just walk outside and push a stroller. You can't. So yeah, it's just a little bit. And there's a golf course, which Zach is
Starting point is 00:11:43 probably so stoked. Yeah. The, his version of video games is the golf course. So like being able to be really close to one that he's excited and why and austin's like a pretty hot spot like a lot of people are going there we got in at the right time how close are you to joe rogan's house i actually don't know this podcast studio i think joe rogan is on the lake somewhere which lakefront property in austin is get your checkbook out um it's insane um but we have two other really good couple of friends who are moving to Austin and we're all in the same neighborhood too. That's so cute. And you ride around on golf carts with like solo cups and just hang out with each other. See, that's why I wanted to move to San Clemente. That's what you do there. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:12:27 All I want is a golf cart lifestyle. Yeah. I need a golf cart that I, we're trying to decide now what kind of vehicle, because apparently guys have a lot of options in this category. I was like, well, let's get a regular golf cart. He's like, no, we need, they have all these crazy off-roading thing. I love this. I love this. I'm like, we're going to be broke, but if anybody has a hookup for an off-roading vehicle, take it. I'll take it. I'll post all about it. I'll take an ATV. Yeah. I like no golf carts, sir. Wait, did you see Paula Abdul on her like sprinter, like big, you got to look at it. It's amazing. Was she crawling along her sprinter van? No, she had like one of those, it's like an indoor outdoor cycle, but it looks like an
Starting point is 00:13:08 elliptical and it's massive. And she's so small and you like can take it on the street. Anyway, That sounds amazing. When we come back, my house. My house. You know, life is so crazy. Life is so busy. It's hard to eat healthy, and that's why we love Daily Harvest. Daily Harvest delivers delicious food built on organic fruits and vegetables right to your door.
Starting point is 00:13:28 It literally takes minutes to prepare. I never have to think twice about what I'm eating. And the best part about it is that everything lives in your freezer until it's ready to eat. So if you're like me, you get really mad when you buy a bunch of fruits and veggies, and then they go bad, and you have to throw them out. It's such a waste. What I love about this is when I'm home, when it's time to eat, pull something out for the freezer, easy to make a smoothie, a flatbread, a bowl, whatever.

We're back. I did want to ask you, Becca, one more thing. But you're going to come to LA. Lady Gang is not ending because you're not in our city. Yeah. No. But we probably won't. Even when the world opens back up again, I'll come back for the stuff I have to come back for. It's so easy to come back. Flights right now are $66. Oh, my gosh. It's cheaper than taking an
Starting point is 00:16:58 uber from like the east side to the west side of la and probably faster it's true so i'll just come back i already have to come back for two weddings this summer i mean if they're happening june and july yeah so i'm already in la for those times and i can like do some work maybe a couple hours but i'm also just not really in big into working big hours for lady gang so maybe a couple hours i'll put it maybe i'll pop in take a do a couple hours you know and then pop out oh my god sounds well I would love to move out of Los Angeles Los Angeles has never been my love city like I love New York I would love to be back yeah on the east coast but of course I'm in love with a born and bred Los Angeleser with a LA office so Chris can't move like I would also do I mean I can't afford it
Starting point is 00:17:44 but like I would have loved to live in Malibu or like any like jack over by the water because I like that area it's just so hard for Chris to get to work in the morning and I don't really want to lose him two hours a day to the commute, you know? So, so a lot of people are asking why we sold our house. And so I like that SNL thing. We're like a Zillow people. So every night Chris and I would lay in bed and look at houses for like at least an hour. Um, I know Chris sends me houses all the time. Yes. He loves to look at house. And so do I. And so do I. And so it was definitely a hobby for us. Um, ever since, even when we bought this house, we still have been looking at houses the whole time and we have a very wide area like we weren't super picky about so we're like we could
Starting point is 00:18:24 live in you know i won't bore you because it's international but like all over la we weren't like jack where we're like we're looking for one house in one zip code like we're like we'll look we'll live anywhere so we just kept looking and kept looking kept looking and then the market like you said jack is is so good right now in la that people are paying a lot of money over the asking price to get into these houses and the other thing with covid is that there are no contractors available because everyone's redoing something in their house and with the furniture and the wait times like some of the wait times on simple west elm or whatever furniture like three months because the boats and covid and all those things so you don't really want to get an empty house so
Starting point is 00:19:05 the new trend in la anyways is to buy a fully furnished house like people want to move right in so we were like, well, we saw, we found this house. So the house that we ended up getting is I'm calling her big Bertha, but she's a big old suburbs house, um, over in Sherman Oaks and like lots of space. And so we were like, well, let's just, we were going to rent our house or whatever. And we're like, let's put it on the market and see if someone wants it. And we ended up having like over a hundred people interested, six offers. We showed it to 48 people over two days. And this really sweet couple from Istanbul, you know, wrote us this beautiful letter and they have a great dog. And anyway, they've been over like a ton of times. We haven't even signed the
Starting point is 00:19:50 paperwork yet. And I'm like, just come over and see the house again. They're like, okay. They come over for coffee. Like it's so cute. They bring the dog. But I was just like, these are the kinds of people that I would want to sell the house to. So then it just kind of was like everything lined up. So I am moving into another complete fixer. It is a beautiful house. It's not one story that what I wanted was a ranch house, but they're really hard to find in LA. So it's two stories, but I like it because you walk into the house and the upstairs is like the kitchen living room. And then you go downstairs, like your old house back up where you go downstairs to the bedrooms, which I like. Yeah. And so there's a couple of reasons why I love this house
Starting point is 00:20:24 and I wanted to move out and get a little more space. Like I've fallen in love with having my parents and family come to LA, which I never like had them come in New York at all, but I've loved them coming for the winters and helping with the house. And so we never really had like a spare room that was, I mean, we have spare room, like if you're going to come stay the weekend, but we didn't have like a house that was great to have, like your parents come for state for two months. So yeah, this is like a little bit more space. And then what's really cool about this house and what was like kind of the kicker for me is that it has an office. One of the bedrooms has, it's a bedroom, but it has like a bathroom and a closet within the bedroom. So you don't have to like go
Starting point is 00:20:59 in the hallway to get to the bathroom, but that bedroom has its own entrance from a side of the garage. So we're going to set it up as like a lady gang office so that if Jack wants to leave her house and come over and work or like our employees need to come over, like they don't have to traipse through the house. They can just have their own little office and we can have it set up like perfectly. So, um, I was really excited about that and I'm really excited to redo it right now. I'm like thinking about concrete floors and the design process is like just so fun, like to be on Pinterest. So I replaced Zillow with like Pinteresting things now. I love a concrete floor. So when you get a house, Jack, this is important for you. The flooring can be really expensive.
Starting point is 00:21:37 And so with this house, we ripped out all the floor and put a new floor and we spent like a large part of our renovation budget on that. So this new house, I was like, I really don't want to have to do floors again because I'd rather spend money on like fun art or fun furniture or something like that. Like the floors are such an annoying thing to change. So what's cool about this the new house that we got is that the upstairs has like original hardwood floor they've stained it like a dark gray but we're gonna sand it to the back to the original like light oak which is really beautiful but then the whole downstairs has carpet like moving into someone else's carpet makes me it has their it has their like skin cells on it
Starting point is 00:22:16 it has their dander it has their hair it has their toenail juice like i can't so we're gonna to rip out the carpet. And then I'm thinking of doing a concrete floor, but they have all these new kinds of concrete floors, like thin and white and all these different things. So anyway, that's where I'm at. I am going to be Instagramming it all for everyone. So, you know, it'll be fun. I'm excited about this for both of you. And then maybe me one day, one day, it'll be you. Jack, you can definitely come stay at the house when you're sick of Jerry. I definitely will. I think that'll be fun.
Starting point is 00:22:52 I'm really excited. And I have an idea. I want to plant a lot of fruit trees. I mean, I haven't successfully grown a vegetable since I got my lettuce grow, but I feel like I could do better with an avocado or a lemon. So we'll see. Are you going to do this all on your own? Are you going to hire a designer?
Starting point is 00:23:08 Well, this is not sponsored by The Expert, but I did sign up for a class with Leanne Ford on her new, that new app, The Expert, where you can sign up. wait what is it so cool so it's called the expert and you it's like cameo but for design because that's what she wasn't she she was doing cameos in the beginning of quarantine but it was for advice for your like interior interior design yeah this one you get to sit with her for an hour so i'm already like planning my boards and my layout i'm going to be like what should i do with my kitchen and like so they'll help you figure it out and tell you you know suggestions and design
Starting point is 00:23:44 and whatever and then you just go do it which is the perfect thing because i want to do the work myself and you can do it with leanne yeah you can do it with like a whole bunch of people i am so doing that when i get a house that's exactly i was like how do i just get like a little bit of advice from her that's how because i know what i like i just can't figure out like should i wear a beam on the floor should i like blah blah blah like i want to know like what wall color she thinks like oh my gosh that's amazing so that's what i'm gonna do and then see what It happens per room, but the kitchen is really the spot that I'm going to start. Cause it's like the home. And then I'll like expand over, but we have nothing. I sold all my furniture with this
Starting point is 00:24:19 house. So I'm taking my art, my crafting stuff, and we've got a new mattress to be delivered on the day we close. So literally Chris and I at 40 years old are going to be like on a mattress on the floor, on the gross carpet until further notice. In a gorgeous house. In a gorgeous house. Yeah. You can't like do the floor, take the carpet out before you move in, right? well yeah i mean i don't know you should what you should do is as soon as you get the keys get your floors all done and stay at a hotel before you have furniture before you're living in it because you can't even be on your floors for like five days or something so that's what we're hoping do that yeah anyway we won't bore you anymore at the house but i think people are
Starting point is 00:25:02 going to be interested because i think it's like we're all there at this point in our lives yeah It's going to be so fun. Cute. I love it. Okay. The Moving Chronicles out. Out. We weren't here for a good time.
