Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, the Hollywood girl posse with Lady Gang Quickie. Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Let's make this quick. Hello, hello, hello.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Welcome to The Lady Gang Quickie. I am Becca here with Jack and Kelty. Hello. In the middle of technical retrograde bullshit. Today, well, the last two days have been a whirlwind of problems. It's just one thing after another, you know? Zoom never gets easier. Zoom. God, remember when we all thought Zoom was like the coolest, most groundbreaking innovation ever, and now I never want to see the icon again? I miss the days before COVID when I didn't even know what Zoom was. Those were the days that I'd
Starting point is 00:01:51 like to go back to. Well, also the real problem is that now everyone wants everything to be a Zoom. And I'm like, are we never going to have conference calls again? Because while we were doing conference calls, I was organizing my closet with AirPods in. Oh, that is something that I've just taken upon myself to, if somebody is setting up a meeting that should be a conference call, I don't turn my video on. You do do a really good job of that. Half the ones that we do your videos not on. And I think I need to start following suit.
Starting point is 00:02:19 The thing is, is like I'm running errands and stuff. So normally I would be in my car in route somewhere while we were doing a conference call. I'm like, I'm not going to sit around my house doing back to back zooms just so you can see my face. And now it's like zooms are the new, like a meeting that could have been an email. Like there are so many zooms that we have done that could have been a one sentence email that could have just been handled so fast.
Starting point is 00:02:44 But it's like, I think that people just want to seem productive. So they set up zoom calls. Yep. It's, it's not okay with me. I'm telling you. And as a skimmer, like you've never had me skim more than when you have a Zoom call. Like you can, now people can tell I'm checked out before I was hiding it. I think pretty well, you know, like not great, but now they're like, oh my God, like, you know, they can really see me like staring into the office. They can see your dead eyes that look
Starting point is 00:03:14 right through them. Occasionally we'll be on a Zoom and Jack or myself, we'll text one another and say, please look at Kelsey. No, I have the worst. God awful. Honestly, I'm so aware of it. My watching face is fucking hideous. It's not that it's ugly. It's just that you look like you body snatchers are not in there. Yeah. You look empty. Like, you know, when you hear about like some celebrities and they're like, yeah, they do this like weird disconnected thing where they look like they're looking through you and there's nothing in them. It's like, that's what Kelty Knight has. So it's like, I don't know if this is like your moment because you're so close to celebrity status because that's what you do, but this might be, this might be it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:59 No, I think it's like, I mean, I don't want to get too Freudian on us. I don't want to be a fridge magnet, but I think it's like this. I just like cut myself off and I exist in a place when I, I go into like a fairy land and I'm really not there, but sometimes I'm, I am there and I'm just watching, but my face is saying, I hate you. Like I've had multiple people be like, is something wrong? And I was like, I'm just listening. Like I have tried even like, cause one year, one of my manifests was like to work on my posture. And I was like, and I want to always have like that Buddhist, like simple smile, like not a smile, but like a little crack of a pleasant look on your face. But it lasted like two weeks. Like my face is just not meant
Starting point is 00:04:37 to be happy when it's resting. Definitely not for you. Rude. All right. So we're going to finish our Vogue 73 questions, which I'm so excited about, except that we only got to 24. We're starting at 24, which means we're never actually going to get to the end, but I'm going to skip a couple of the bad ones because some of them are bad, like diamonds or pearls, like obviously diamonds. Duh. Duh. Unless Becca and Jack are into pearls, then I'm into pearls. All right, so let's keep going. Here we go. What is inspiring you in your life right now? Honestly, the thing that's inspiring me is the Lady Gang community, as cheesy as that sounds. Because just when you think there's no goodness in the world, you'll open up your Instagram or
Starting point is 00:05:23 you'll go on the Facebook page and you'll see some little ray of sunshine doing something nice or saying something nice. So I feel like that perspective has really been a really, it's been an inspiring thing to see. I like that. Wow. That's amazing. Um, mine would probably have to be nature because it's the only place that you can go and things will feel like somewhat normal. Like you feel disconnected in the best way possible. I've never spent more time in my apartment and I hate spending time in my apartment. So getting out and being either at the beach or in the mountains or something like that, it's just a nice way to disconnect and kind of like reboot. I'm very inspired by the ladies of the home edit. Um, because I, when Marie Kondo became
Starting point is 00:06:14 a thing and everyone was folding their underwear and like seven, seven folds, I was like, I'm not really into folding. Like that's not the organization that speaks to my soul. So when the home edit show came out and the organization was label making in acrylic holders and like making a holder that just holds your peanut butters like that. I was like, you know what? I'm so inspired. And I have officially home edited every closet, every space, every bathroom in my house. Like I'm done. There's no spaces to clean. Wow. That show has a specific type of energy and it's a very Kelsey energy. It is too much for me. It's manic. It's manic. She's like, we're Sumner. We need the product. They're both, they're both very manic personalities. It's they're both K
Starting point is 00:07:04 types for sure. And it's a lot like, I feel like I would need a little bit of a, a little bit of a downer personality to weigh that out for me to enjoy it. I know, but don't you think this would be such a great reality show for us is like us going and organizing people's houses. I mean, Jack and I would just go through their pantries and like eat their snacks. I know. I'm like, I feel like Becca and I would be doing it for like 20 minutes and then I'd find some cocktail stuff. Yeah, no, I can't, I can, I can barely get through my own things to organize. It's been nine months of quarantine and I left my junk drawer, uh, a junk drawer. I love you. Um, okay. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Starting point is 00:07:40 Ooh, mine is marry a man who loves you more from my mother. Best advice. yes I don't I don't really know I mean I don't really think I've been given great advice I think my I mean okay that is sorry that is a really hard question and I feel like people always have like this like profound answer for it and I can never I mean yeah like I would like to say like what's the best advice in in your career your marriage your friendships your this Like, I think that there's, life is just too multifaceted. Too vague. But I bet Kelty has an answer.
Starting point is 00:08:21 What's the best piece of advice you've got? No, it's something I learned on the Lady Gang. No one ever taught me that the correct way to wipe your butt. And I was having a lot of, like, I, I'm telling you, this was a problem for me. I'm sorry. I don't remember this conversation. How do you think the correct, how did you think the correct way to wipe your butt was? I was always someone that wiped, like put my hand in my leg and wiped forward.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Oh my God. Oh my God. Like into your vagina? Not into my vagina, but in a direction. But you moved the poop particles up to your taint. I moved them into my taint. Yeah. I hate that word.
Starting point is 00:08:58 And then they would slide up and then I would get a fucking yeast infection or a, you know, UTI. And now I've really been like UTI free. I mean, I do have a pill I take every time I have sex, but like, I've been UTI free for like a good year. So thank you. Lady gang. I think is when I learned, you know, that as you get, as we get older, we are like women get so many more UTIs because we get so dry down there. Oh, dry ass pussy. Dap, dude. What's something you notice about people when you first meet them? Like a physical quality? I don't know. I noticed teeth. Teeth is a big one. No, that's why I have to get
Starting point is 00:09:39 my teeth done. No. New veneers coming for Kelty. Got a big schnaggle toot. I noticed if they make eye contact or not. I'm very, I mean, if I decide to make eye contact with them, I fully expect them to make eye contact with me back. Oh. Bradley Cooper never makes eye contact. He's very shifty eyed and it's like something I really noticed. I want to know what that is because there are people, like it's not often that I meet somebody who can't really make eye contact, but I do have commerce. Sometimes I'll like talk to people and they'll really look at your chest, not your boobs, but like, or like to like six inches to the side of your face. Yeah. I don't know if that's like a anatomical thing with their eyeballs or no, I think it's, I think it's like an anxiety thing.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Yeah. Because we have a friend who he'll look me in the eye, but then like every maybe 20 seconds it'll go down to my like chest, but not like boobs, like basically like collarbone. Oh, that is weird. We do have a beautiful collarbone, so I do understand. Like I've caught myself staring many times. Especially since you lasered it off. It's like more beautiful now. It is.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Pristine. The thing that I notice is a handshake. Yeah. Not anymore, bitch. Well, when's the last time you shook a hand? Something of the past. I don't know if we're ever going to do handshakes again, which is good because I do not want to be touching people's grimy ass germy hands.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Right. But there is nothing worse than a weak handshake, especially coming from a man. It's like, I want a strong grip from somebody. I don't want your weak ass handshakes. So that's definitely something I noticed. I would like that thing to, um, you know, I'm like obsessed in watching the crown right now. like I feel like I would like people to curtsy and bow. Like that could be the new, I mean,
Starting point is 00:11:30 cause other, other places in the world still do that obviously. And, and we can't handshake anymore, but you need some sort of like, I see you. Hello. So don't you think like a little curtsy would be cute. Or I also really would adore people to grab my hand and kiss me. Like I'm the queen. Like that's even more germs. No, there's the thing that America is definitely never going to take on any of those regal things. There's no way. I'm going to curtsy. I'm bringing the curtsy back. 2021, get ready. You're of the curtsy. Go in on the fucking access list. Curtsies are back, bitches. Yes. You're of the curtsy. Becca, when I ever see you again in my life, I will curtsy my ass off for you. Okay. Sounds awesome. What if you're wearing like a
Starting point is 00:12:14 sweat pant? Are you still curtsying? Curtsying no matter what. I'm naked curtsy. Oh my God. naked stretching sick a naked chrissy is a beautiful i think could be very pretty no pass okay what's your biggest regret i know mine do you want me to just go yes i think i really really regret how pathetic i was during the breakup of ryan ross i am so pathetic i and for years like I really oh my god the the punishment did not fit the crime like a 21 year old other people like calm down Kelty like obviously like I was so out of my mind and really not living on the planet where I really thought this was like the love of my life and was just such a fucking psycho like if I watch that behavior now I would be like this bitch is crazy and and it makes me sad it's my
Starting point is 00:13:09 regret because now everyone thinks that I cared so much, but like, it was, I cared a lot of course at the time, but like, I truly don't care now. And I'm very happy in my life, but I feel like people from that era still believe that like, I'm somewhat madly in love with Ryan Ross and it makes me sad. Cause I am not. And also right after we broke up, I started making out with like really hot guys in New York so like I wasn't that sad like I made it seem like I was so sad but I was actually living so I regret that I acted outwardly bloggy so sad well this is the thing it was like the perfect storm of where the internet was at and like a buzz net situation and then the actual got like, our breakup was also extremely chaotic and public. And we only dated for three months,
Starting point is 00:14:08 but the way that we are passively aggressively journaling about each other, you would have thought that we had been married for 10 years. So there's something within the times of the internet. That's, that's what people did. You put on an away message on your aim profile and you'd go shade the person. Right. And it was like, I'm listening to Ryan Adams. I'm just going to copy the lyrics is a blog post with like a sad selfie of my socks. You know, it's like, it just seemed so much more dramatic than it really, really was. And when I see women acting the way I acted now, I'm like, this bitch is pathetic. And like, I don't know, I feel bad. And I had such ugly eyebrows. I wasn't even that hot. Like, of course he was other people. I was not.
Starting point is 00:14:49 That's not usually why men other women. Well, this goes to my biggest regret, which was plucking my eyebrows in high school because they never grew back ever again. So anybody out there, I don't know if this trend is ever going to come back for the youth, but I really wish that I didn't because life didn't really hand me any extras, but also thank God for microblading. That is the best invention that's ever happened in the world. Best thing I've ever done. Better than Botox. Yeah. It's a good one. I love it. That's a good one. What was the question? Your biggest regret. Sorry. What was the question? What are your thoughts on Ryan Ross? Um, I think that one of my biggest regrets is, well, I have two. I was like not a great
Starting point is 00:15:33 girlfriend towards the end of any of my relationships. Um, I didn't cheat, but I also like didn't have, I don't know. I didn't have like a ton of empathy for those people. I was like, great, moving on, you know, like hightailing it out of there. So that sort of sucks. Um, but I also have regrets on how long I stayed in toxic friendships and I still struggle with this because it's like you it's for me, it's harder to get out of friendships than it is to get out of relationships. Like I really, I'm very weak when it comes to people. Like, even though I know people are not good for me, I just have a weakness for people who I've been close with at one point or another, you know? Right. Were you, can I ask you a question? Were like,
Starting point is 00:16:21 when you were in Broadway show land and you were in a show and you get really close with that cast like did you stay really good friends with them forever or just like one person in the cast stayed your friend like do you make friends and then keep friends or do you have like sort of yearly friendships based on like the little thing that you're doing in your life like the glee friends the Broadway friends like transient friends kind of no I stay friends with whoever I'm close with in that time of my life, I stay super close friends with. But I will say that every chapter of my life, because I have such a weird lifestyle where it changes drastically every couple of years depending on my career, I collect so many different groups of friends along the way.
Starting point is 00:17:08 But that's why I posted something on Instagram the other day about the comparison of putting all your friends together at one party. Oh yeah. Your wedding. Yeah. Like I was like, this is why I hated my wedding because I have so many close, close friends, but none of them are from the same like my life. And so mixing them is weird. Well, it's basically your career has kind of been like going to college like 10 different times and then you meet those friends and then you pick out, like you end up being like best friends with a few of them and they're your friends forever. And then you go to a new college and then you have a few friends from there. And then it's just a very interesting way of collecting. Yeah. It's like the best way of
Starting point is 00:17:47 putting it. Cause like every new job, it feels like you're going to summer camp again, which is kind of like college and you spend in endless amounts of hours with the people. So your bonds get like so tight, so quickly. So fast. Yeah. But then like a month later or a year later or whatever, you're onto like another, another like camp. It's so weird. But then I do carry it like, but then I do carry dead weight from every one of those like experiences and that's really well I think it's really interesting about you because you you I think have done the work on yourself and you know what's best for yourself and yet there's still this people people pleaser of you even though I don't know that the lady gang fans like aren't necessarily think of you
Starting point is 00:18:30 as that but like there's still an era of you that I feel like you you don't want to let anyone down and yeah even if it's the best thing for you you still don't want to like disappoint anyone and I also think that you are um I think you're quite a thoughtful friend and you're like easy to be around as a friend and so I think people take advantage of that like I'm not an easy friend to be around so people like they get rid of me very quickly they don't want me to stay with them you know they're like it's actually easier if you're not around and so like I don't have this problem of like, everyone wants to stay friends with me. I have to like deeply curate anyone that maybe wants to. I was a rocket for six years. I kept two friends. That's crazy. Out of, I'm so
Starting point is 00:19:12 jealous, but that's the thing. It's like those two friends are, I'm sure are great friends. You don't need a billion friends. You only need like a few friends. They complain to me about me all the time, but like, you know, it's just what it is. So it's, I think it's interesting for you, Becca, like I really want to be friends with you so I can understand how other people want to be around you and be friends with you because you're fun. Oh, thank you. I actually, I'm going to go on a tangent because I screenshotted something about friendship when I was up in the middle of the night last night. Oh, perfect. Let me read this to you. You won't understand what I mean now, but someday you will. The only trick of friendship I think is to find people who are better than you
Starting point is 00:19:49 are, not smarter, not cooler, but kinder and more generous and more forgiving. And then to appreciate them for what they can teach you and try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself no matter how bad or good it might be and trust them, which is the hardest thing of all, but the best as well. Oh, I like that. It's an inspirational quote, but I was thinking about it and I was like, the only friendships I don't feel are toxic are the ones where I feel like they're actually a better person than I am. So they're probably thinking I'm toxic, which is the whole issue. Don't go down there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you do have to be friends with people who are equally or better, like better people. You can't be the conscience for your friend group.
Starting point is 00:20:34 You know what I mean? You'll trust them when they say something where it's like, I think we talked about this recently, but it's like, it does you no good to be around a bunch of yes people that are never going to call you out on your shit. But then you need friends that are going to call you out on your shit that you actually trust and you will believe and think that they have the best intentions because that's like a fine line to walk without getting, without getting offended or hurt because people actually have your best intentions at heart. Yeah. That's hard. Friendship is hard. Friendship is really hard. But Jack, you've been like best friends with your friend group for like 20 years. Like you feel, I feel like you're like, do you have friends from college?
Starting point is 00:21:14 I'm a no new friends type of a person. I met all of my best friends in when like my high school years or my college years, not directly in high school or college. It was all honestly through going to concerts, but I just, I found my like little crew and I'm not really good at making new friends. And I'm okay with that. Like I, I care about like a handful of people and that's where I like put my energy into because I've tried and then it always backfires and it's hard to find a good solid human. Like what you're saying, Becca, like that's hard to find people like that. Yeah, it is almost impossible. Yep. So hold on to them and you can find them. Hold on tight. When we come back, we're going to talk about fear.
Starting point is 00:21:55 the lady gang all right we're back what's one thing you've always wanted to try but you've been too scared to do oh i know mine skydiving i feel like i would love it when i got on the ground after and i'd be like that was amazing but i am not a heights person and i thought i'd have the balls to jump out you did it right but jack yeah i've been skydiving and bungee jumping both are amazing i would literally pay like a million dollars to see kelty to go skydiving with kelty I think that you would be an absolute wreck, but then I think you would have so much fun. See, this is the point for both of them. The scariest thing about skydiving is putting on your little thingy, like your little skydiving
Starting point is 00:22:37 uniform and then getting in the plane because those planes are very small and they're very rickety and they're really scary. I don't like a small plane. So actually getting in the plane, but then once you're up there, the other person is doing all the work. They literally push you out of the plane. So you just have to get to there. And then it's so fun.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Do you pee a little bit? I would be peeing my pants. No, I don't know. I'm like so weird with like that kind of like nervousness. I kind of just like shut it off and I was like, all right, here we go. But does it feel like you're really falling? Like, are you like, I'm jumping right now? So the different, no, because you're so with skydiving, you're so high that you have no sense of like depth perception whatsoever. So you kind of get the initial drop, but then once you're falling, you're so far away from the earth that it kind of just feels like you're sitting there. No, I'm done. Just made a decision. Never doing it. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:23:24 But wait, does your stomach do the thing that it does when you're on the Tower of Terror? Yeah. But what I was going to say, with bungee jumping is scarier than skydiving because with bungee jumping, when I did it, I did it off of a mountain and I literally jumped onto like rocks. Like that's what was underneath me. And you're not that far away from the rocks. So you have your depth perception with that is so much smaller. So it's way fucking scarier because you think you're literally going to hit the rocks. So I would say skydiving first before bungee jumping oh god i'm doing i'm not skydiving not for a million dollars really i will do it for one million dollars i'll do it i feel like i could somehow convince you to do it for less
Starting point is 00:24:03 um my thing that i'm too scared to do that i really want to do is any type of a hallucinogenic drug you would love it i know i've never done a mushroom i've obviously never done acid or anything like that. Um, but I know from our talks and especially from Becca's experiences that I think that I, I can do it. I just haven't had the opportunity recently yet. Well, you can get them delivered here in Canada. They're legal? Yeah. Ooh. Isn't that cool? That is cool. If the border opens, we can go to Whistler and we can do a mushroom journey. Ski trip. No. Ski trip is code for cocaine yeah that we use well never mind we'll go play in the snow night skiing was the code name yes anyways what are you scared of becca um i do sometimes wish that i had the like
Starting point is 00:24:59 confidence and like lack of self-awareness to be able to like post myself like singing on Instagram or social media because it would be really nice. Like I watch people like who aren't even necessarily that great, but like just enjoy doing it. They'll like get on and like sing a little song and it's like, that would be so nice. But I'm just like way too critical of myself to ever get to a point where I could like even post something like that. Not that I like want the attention for it. But I also feel like it's like, I don't, I mean, I don't know. It's like an expression that I wish that I used more. Well, we're still waiting for you to sing in front of us. We've never heard it in the past five years. And a few weeks ago or months ago, I know it was
Starting point is 00:25:48 Jacob from Glee's birthday and you posted a clip of you guys doing a duet. And I probably watched it 15 times. I do feel like your engagement would be incredible with singing content. Well, of course, Kelty thinks of it that way. Since you're just now meeting me and you think that engagement is really important for me. I'm sorry. This is not the first time that Kelty has been like, you know what would really do great on Bacchus Instagram? This. I would love to trade places with Kelty for a day and see what she could do with my Instagram. Oh my God. You'd be on fire, girl. You just put one question. You put one caption that has a question. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:26:27 and you have so many comments. Get ready for posts at 3 a.m. like Kelty's. Oh yeah. Don't worry. When I was up in the middle of the night, who was on my feed? Kelty Knight. Yep. It's jarring. Also, Kelty had a question one the other day that was like really, really amusing to me, but I can't remember it. Like a question in her caption? It's so memorable when you put a question your caption. Oh my God. Okay. Last thing. What's one thing you wish you knew at age 19? Can't be your eyebrows, Jack. 19. It's always my eyebrows. I wish I, God, I wish that I knew that life was going to get hard, like really hard, but that I was going to survive it. Like, I think at 19, I was at a point where I lived such a like charmed, privileged life up to that
Starting point is 00:27:22 point that I expected life to just stay that easy. And granted, like, don't get me wrong. It's all relative. Like I definitely still have it quote pretty easy, but there have been bumps in the road that I was like totally thrown by because I wasn't prepared. Like with the reality of the fact that life gets really hard sometimes, but I also would have loved to have known that like you don't actually just crumble and die when those bad things happen. I love that. Resiliency. Resiliency. I wish that I knew that 99% of men are trash and cannot waste my time on them. And then I also wish I knew that when I met Jared, that he would end up being my forever guy Cause that was around that time. Oh my gosh. But then you wouldn't have been ready. Yeah, no. Oh,
Starting point is 00:28:16 it would have been a, it would have been a disaster. I don't wish I knew that, but it would be interesting if I did know that. Yeah. Right. I think the same thing. Cause I met Zach so many, many, many years before we actually dated. Yeah. And I'm like, God, it's so like, it's such a myth when people say that, like, when you know, you know. Oh my God. Even when, even when Jared and I started dating again, it took me, it took me eight months to call him my boyfriend. And he was basically my boyfriend. I wasn't dating anybody, but I'm like, I don't know. That was also because you dated a serial killer. Yes. Yes.
