Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, The Hollywood Girl Posse, with Lady Gang Quickie. Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Let's make this quick.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to The Lady Gang Quickie. I'm here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. Kelty just shoved food down her face. What were you eating, granola? Granola. i think kelty eats a granola and yogurt parfait every day of her life and it's probably like the ones from mcdonald's not true actually my issue is that i have been unintentionally uninspired no I'm sorry I've been unintentionally intermittent fasting like until dinner like every day because I just have been like so excited about
Starting point is 00:01:59 doing things and then all of a sudden it's like four o'clock and I'm asleep like I am not awake and it's because I have not eaten anything I've drank in like seven cups of coffee and like I'm like, so today I woke up literally last night. I went to bed and I was like, Kelty, you are going to treat yourself right tomorrow, girl. You're going to have one tiny cup of coffee and you're going to then eat three meals and like really just be better. I have a cup of tea here. I had breakfast. I had a high protein granola with spirulina and protein powder sprinkled on it with a, um, with a almond yogurt, like an almond, um, milk yogurt and a banana. Wow. Good for you. How long do you think this one's going to last for?
Starting point is 00:02:48 Today. Just today. And then no food for one week. We're having dinner tonight. So I'm going to, I've already had like, you know, the chance to screw it up is like less. So yeah. We have an alfresco lady gang team dinner tonight. It's going to be so fun. We've never done it before we've never done it it's crazy the the last like true i mean we've eaten together obviously we've been on the road or like whatever right but the last time we purposely like made a reservation to go out to dinner for no work no for lady gang oh i'm talking like as a lady gang dinner not just as we ended up at dinner yeah was when you well i'm like you and you when becca and
Starting point is 00:03:31 jack and i had a dinner at a sushi restaurant in beverly hills right after we started lady gang and i took a picture and i said i'm gonna show you this picture in five years when we have our own empire i saw the picture i honestly think that might have been the day that becca and i met was it the day that we pitched no i don't think it was i don't i don't think it was well it depends we'll be able to tell if you can show me what we're wearing because i do remember what we wore for the pitch were you wearing a red crop top right me yeah yeah that's the day i mean yeah of course you have you ever seen me in a red crop top i thought you were wearing your red crop top how odd no when you guys went to go see the book at target becca was in a very jack outfit i was
Starting point is 00:04:20 impressed she had a shirt tied up little stomach showing it's true can i admit something it's because i wanted to take a picture in that white button down the lady gang button down that we have from Express that I love so much, but it was so wrinkled that I was like, if I tie it, it's going to conceal the wrinkle. So really it was like by default, but it didn't feel right. I will say it didn't feel. Wow. The effort. You know what? It didn't feel right looking at it either. I was like, I love this and you looked amazing, but I'm like, this doesn't, it'd be like me wearing a house dress. Yeah. It'd be weird, but you kind of do wear a house dress. You're freaking barefoot dreams oh yes well that's my robe and that is you wear it in my life like a dress so don't even front
Starting point is 00:05:07 right now you went to the grocery store i do i do i wear it out in public probably far more often than i should when jared and i were in portland we went to go get donuts and i forgot that i had it on and i'm just walking around portland in my full-on fucking robe and a mask um i used to forget when i used to get tired i'd be like into my house because i i do not like my feet touching the floor. So I always like to be in a slipper right now. I'm in a nice gray slipper and I have multiple slippers. I have like a whole collection. So if you ever want to get me a gift, get me a slipper. Anyway. So do you want to like figure out your indigestion issues before you start talking? It's aggressive. And again, I know we probably talked about this recently, but it
Starting point is 00:05:52 reminds me of when Kelsey burped in the middle of her ad. Like you just don't stop. You just keep going if you if you threw up you just still keep talking i'm sorry it's the banana that burp in the ad was like it's like textbook kelty night like and honestly you probably can't stop me about doing it you probably were so focused on the ad that you didn't realize that you belched and then maybe you should start over. Also, how do you do so much live TV and you, you burp in the middle of a sentence? No, I've talked about this before. Like I am on my best behavior when I'm making television and it takes so much focus and so much effort that the whole reason Lady Gang exists is so I can be my true self. Yeah. I don't want to have to pronounce things correctly. I don't want
Starting point is 00:06:49 to have to not burp. Yeah, you did have to wear Spanx. I'm in a slipper and a Van Halen t-shirt and I have barely brushed my teeth. You did just pronounce behavior, behavior. So yeah, you are your true self. Here you are. I actually used to get notes. Well, um, pronunciation all the time. Ridiculous. You guys know my story mispronounced. You guys know my story of my speech therapy don't don't be mad or mean but that wasn't because you couldn't pronounce things it was like a very specific you couldn't say your r's i thought i couldn't say my l's oh l's oh that makes it trickier i guess i love you becca no but that's cute in your account it is cute i was like in grade five yeah it's late a little late yeah but like a lot of these words don't have l's in
Starting point is 00:07:40 them rude pronunciation does not there's no l hold on we have to take a quick break because i have diarrhea hold on oh my god the lady gang um that is back and kelty has diarrhea and we're ready to roll no we're back we just did some ads um see this is what happens i it's a natural it's a natural commercial break it really happened where it was supposed to it was a real commercial break no i think i have irritable bowel syndrome no i think that you're just not very nice to your insides. Yeah. And you're not used to eating. So then when you eat, your body's like, ah, it's true. This is so much deeper than this podcast, but you know, I'm working on it. You're the only person I know who like really struggles with like eating food.
Starting point is 00:08:33 And not because it's not like a eating. It's not. No, it's just, I don't, it's like you're half alien. You just don't think about it. Well, interesting. I mean, do you want to get into this? Sure. Yeah. So I'm working on this in therapy right now. Okay. So this is kind of interesting. So I've been working on other things all summer and then I got to a place where I was like, okay, I'm feeling like good about where I'm at. And she was like, what else do you got? Anyway, no. And she was like, well, what are your goals for like the next year? Like now that you have a little more free time, like what are you going to focus on? And I was talking about how like, I always am like restarting some health journey. Like you guys have, we've been doing
Starting point is 00:09:14 the podcast five years, the listeners know like Kelty 8.9, like, I don't know what level I'm on. Yeah. So I was talking about it and she was talking about like, and I, I don't want this to be triggering for anyone, but I was talking about how, you know, how we all have our own food stuff. And I was saying to her, like, I, I don't know, I did this psychology test when I had to go on The Bachelor and they were like, we've never met anyone that cares about food less than you. And I was like, I just don't care about food. Like I see the Pinterest, I see the cookbooks And I'm like, whatever. Like I just eat to stay alive. And she was like, do you think it's possible that when you were young and you were studying ballet, that you taught yourself how
Starting point is 00:09:52 to not think about food? Like this is a learned behavior. This is, she's like, this is not something that you're born with. You're not born, like not interested in eating or fueling yourself. No, it's literally a survival tactic to care about food. Right. And she's like, I, I believe that you've probably over all these years of, of ballet and being such a competitive, like perfectionist have taught yourself that somewhere deep down inside of you, like the food is bad. And so you just avoid it and like all of this stuff. So that's like what I'm working on in therapy right now, which is why I ate the breakfast, which is why I got the diarrhea. So, you know, it's a full circle moment.
Starting point is 00:10:29 You could have honestly Venmo'd me like a hundred dollars. I could have told you that like five years ago. Well, I gotta be honest. I know that's not like that mind blowing. And then it's like, then that's why you've been, I mean, you're a binge eater too. And you've been like the shittiest food in the world. So it's like you withhold all this stuff from yourself and then it's like you explode and eat five Snickers. Yeah. What does she say you're supposed to do is just like to retrain yourself to like actually enjoy food and want to like give yourself a nice, to be nice, kind to yourself. Cause it's probably a combination of both. Like it started as I have to stay thin and then it started as like you kind of didn't care about how your body was functioning you just
Starting point is 00:11:09 had to get through the day well and your mind is so because okay this is what i would feel like if this was any other person that did that eventually your um like emotional connection to food i feel like would end up taking over and it's like you'd want to eat food but like your willpower is so strong that i feel like it's almost like overcome a natural instinct of a human to actually want food when all that shit is over with a thousand percent a hundred yeah yeah for sure well what we've been working on is that so basically my first like appointment with this new therapist she was I was talking a lot about how I'm like a bad person I was like I'm just a dick like I'm an asshole I'm such a bad person and she was like okay well we all are all the people and like why
Starting point is 00:11:54 are you so mean to yourself? So now I think it's sort of like a similar study on this plane, which is why do you feel like you don't deserve to be nice to yourself? Like, why do you feel like you like have to withhold or why do you think you have to be in control of this? Like, why don't you, you know, it's all about self-love and fear, all of those things. Control. Yeah. So yeah, it's such a weird thing. I mean, it's not a weird thing. I'm sure lots of people have, it's, it's a weird, cause I'm on the flip side. Like I've, I hear about it all the time that people are on the other side where they're like, I'm emotional. And the only thing I can control is food. So I overeat like, you know what I mean? But you very rarely hear about people that are,
Starting point is 00:12:38 and not in like an anorexic way where I'm like, I've got the food journal and I'm like, okay, I can have 400 calories today. And I have to restrict myself. Like I don't have to restrict myself. I just don't think about it. Yeah. I've like taught myself to like self-restrict. I was like, I'm maybe in fifth grade. I had like a food journal when I was a ballerina and then like have become a human food journal, like in this area. Well, I mean, it's exactly what Jack was saying. Like you are like a Bujo to the nth degree. So that's what you do. You do things like in an extreme way. Like you are not great at moderation. I mean, nobody's actually naturally great at moderation, but I think that you do have to get to a point in your life where you realize that
Starting point is 00:13:18 that is the only key to really happiness in a sense is like not especially with food yeah especially food I mean yeah well I'm excited for your new journey I'm proud of you for making that realization because you know you don't want to go the rest of your life getting diarrhea after you I know I just want to know what you think about like I want to know and and this is like not a joke. Like I think about food and what I'm going to eat next. Like, that's a big part of my day. Cause I think about what I'm going to eat the next day. I'm already planning what my meal is going to be tomorrow. And I like to think about it for like 24 hours. Yeah. So much. It brings me joy. So like much joy. And I also think actually, if you start to think about that
Starting point is 00:14:06 more Kelty, then maybe your brain will calm down when, cause you're always thinking about work. Like it's, you're like, go, go, go, go, go like on a hamster wheel. So maybe if you did start to like love food again that that could be like a reprieve from your you know working brain and maybe like figure out how to incorporate the love for food in the bujo so then it's like a true i have like so many times it's you guys but no no not like in a food journal not like what you ate that day but like a play like an an excitement like a delicious yeah like planning stuff anticipating yeah okay so here what should we do a cooking challenge like where the three of us like once a week we make a delicious meal and we all have to make the same thing so i put
Starting point is 00:14:57 joe where i like wanted to eat breakfast lunch and dinner and drink water every day and i got halfway through the third day and gave up oh my god i see not that not that you need to like like get excited about something. Well, I will say that since my, since I've been working on this, I've been cooking for Chris a lot at dinner. So I'm like looking on Pinterest, I'm making things and I'm like, Ooh, I would like that because it's a sweet and sour sauce. And I like sweet things. So I have been like getting into that and ordering special groceries because I'm going to make this, um, you know, different meals. And then we've been sitting down and I'm like, no phone at dinner, sit, feel your food, like have a conversation. Like, so I really have been that, but then the
Starting point is 00:15:37 breakfast and the lunch is non-existent my friend katie weber who's a broadway dancer she also you know her she also has a blog because she's plant-based mostly she does like a little bit of cheese but she has like easy and really delicious recipes i feel like you should attempt some of those let me let me pull up her website because i do think girls should i actually made a few of these recipes on the beach vacation and i'm someone that kind of hates cooking but it's all, and it's not like, it's not like skinny girl, like super low calorie. It's like delicious, but it's plant-based. So it's really good for you. And some of it's low calorie. Katie Weber, NYC. There you go. Your recipe is on demand. She makes some good stuff. I made an
Starting point is 00:16:23 herby lemony potato salad without mayo. Look at that. Oh my God. Can I tell a story about the Snickers. Can I tell a funny story about a vegan? It's not like bashing vegans. So my friend went out on a date with this vegan guy and for their date, he invited her over and he was going to cook her like this delicious vegan meal. And she gets there and he, the first course is this white creamy type of soup. There was like a garlic drizzle on it, whatever. She's like, oh, this looks good she takes a sip of it or a bite of it a sip i don't know you do a soup yeah she was like a slurp of soup and she's like this tastes like garbage and she's like oh like what's this made out of and he goes bread he took a loaf of sourdough and blended it up and put water in it
Starting point is 00:17:15 and that was his soup. No, no, no. Mm-hmm. Gross. Bread soup. Bread and soup. So you can do that, Kelty. I feel like Oprah would love that. Like, I love bread. I do love sourdough. We've talked about sourdough. I would just rather eat, I would rather eat the loaf instead of in a soup. Yeah, that's weird. That's weird. I don't really understand soup. Like, occasionally I love like a chicken tortilla soup like at a mexican restaurant but for people that are like oh my god tonight i'm making this delicious soup for dinner i'm like i can't get off on that i need there are two there are two types of soup like i and with this bread soup i'm like i would have like a broccoli cheddar or like a front onion if you're doing like some onion naughty i used to love
Starting point is 00:18:04 french onion until i found out that there's beef in it beef bouillon you can still eat it just pretend you don't know yeah that's what i do with my matcha collagen yeah when i'm 10 it's not hoofs when i was vegetarian i definitely ate french onion soup all the time yeah oops i get so grossed out when i think about hooves isn't that what's in there's hooves in jello and there's hooves in like every vitamin in gummy gelatin candies yeah like your sour patch kids ground up horse hooves what how do you are you pronouncing hooves right now hooves it's a v not an f hooves oh i said now i don't think it's hooves it's a huh hoof? I don't know. We've said it too many times. Now it sounds like nothing. A horse hoof. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:19:00 I'm excited. You know, I've never really said these things out loud before. So in the spirit of vulnerability, I'm excited to continue my health journey. I'm excited for you, Kelty. I think that, you know, self-awareness is the first step. Yeah, I'm excited. You need to figure out what your bujo is going to be. And it's one of those things like, well, I don't know how you guys feel about therapy, but it's like, I'm, I dread it. Like I'm literally on the Skype with her and I'm like, this sucks because it's like, it's like, I'm not doing anything. I'm just talking about myself. It's so self-fulfilling and, and it's like so painful because it's like work that there is no trophy at the end. It's so annoying. Like the whole hour, I'm just like, let this be
Starting point is 00:19:46 over let this be the whole time I feel like that before I start but then once I'm in it I'm like oh I obviously needed this yeah and then you end with a little no I feel I feel like annoyed that I have to do it and then annoyed the first 45 minutes and then the last 15 I start to like feel my body like kind of calm down it's almost like a workout like where after you finish the workout you're like I'm so proud of you good girl I'm like all the endorphins are there that's exactly what it is. But I, I mean, I will say that you have to do it long enough. Like now I would say after like three years of consistent therapy for myself, I was like, holy shit. I don't know what I would be like if I hadn't had this, like I see the biggest difference and the biggest change.
Starting point is 00:20:32 So it's like, if you do it consistently, it's like, you do feel like it's kind of like you get a trophy at the end. Cause the life that I have now as compared to before, it's like a different person for mostly for the better. Is this a new therapist for you Kelsey? Yeah. Like we started working together. I have, I have another therapist and then this one, I started working together like at the beginning of COVID. Yeah. It's like a little project. Chris said to me, I did kind of get a trophy, but it was in the form of a compliment. Your favorite kind. What are you talking about? I mean, I guess for your husband, it's not that exciting. No, she wants a compliment from a stranger, not her husband. It is so much more impactful. Yes. Let's go. What do you say?
Starting point is 00:21:17 So he was sitting at dinner and he goes, well, he was talking about COVID and he was like, well, at first you were really sad. He was like, you were really, really, really sad. And then he's like, and then you worked like a crazy person. He was like, it'd be 1130 at night. And I'd be like, coming to bed and you'd be like, I just have one more idea. And then you'd be like working like crazy. And he's like, and then you got abnormally happy and you've stayed happy for like weeks. He's like, I've never seen you so happy. You're like joyous. You're excited about life. You want to do things. And I was like, God, it must suck to be married to me. Rollercoaster of emotions. Do you have a question? Like, even if I wanted to, like, I could not find things to work on
Starting point is 00:22:01 until 11 30 at night like what are you working on I mean I have a lull at like three and then I'm pretty much useless after that but like I don't think I can't think of things that like you're doing she's probably well I I I have been like we don't have corporate jobs right right right And like, there's, yeah, my sister, that's how I feel. Like, I know you have your other stuff, like your own Kelty stuff, which is like, obviously takes up some time, but like, that's also like in a certain phase where it's like, yeah, you can, you can do so much, but then it's like at the end of the day, like, you know, my sister could work till 2am every night, but she's like a corporate lawyer.
Starting point is 00:22:50 She's like partner in a law firm. Well, during that time I was doing ET from home. so I'd get up in the morning and I have to track and then I have to set up my camera and then I have like two hours of ET. So like really I'm useless till noon. And then we would start working on lady gang stuff. So we were at the time like doing our book or doing the express line. And so there was like always stuff to kind of work on. Um, and then I get really tired. So I take a nap at like four o'clock, four to five, then I work out before dinner. So I'd go for a run or I'd work out that I would cook dinner. So that after dinner is when I really started working on the
Starting point is 00:23:28 Kelty things. And I'm very pregnant with a genius. I like to call it, I'm having lots of ideas. And so I've been kind of like putting together TV shows that I want to make. And so I would sit there and work on it, work on it, work on it. And then on one of them, I have a partner. So we would talk around eight o'clock and then I go back to like make the, based off the notes. And I mean, it was like two weeks. It wasn't like the whole time. Okay. Well, that makes sense. Yeah. It's like, you know what it is. It's like, remember when skinny confidential was on Lauren and she was like, you have to, um, time block time block. It's like that. Yeah. And also I've been, I don't know if you guys have noticed, I've been revamping my Instagram. So like that took a lot of. Oh,
Starting point is 00:24:08 I've noticed. Don't worry. I've seen those hashtags. Oh, so many hashtags. I know. It's Did you post about your best friend, Ariana Grande? Yeah, those are strong. Do you think that you, did you answer one of those random DMs that comes through that's like, I can build your following? No. Here's 300 free followers. No. Okay, thanks for being here.
