Today, we love our Post-Its.
It's time for a quickie.
Podcast One presents The Lady Gang.
The Hollywood Girl Posse with Lady Gang Quickie.
Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek.
Let's make this quick.
Our guest today won Sweden's Got Talent at the tender age of 10, singing our queen, Canadian Celine Dion.
In 2016, she was named one of Time magazine's most influential teens, and in 2018, named one of Forbes' 30 under 30.
She's topped the charts all over the world, including Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Finland, and the Netherlands, winning three MTV Europe awards.
And now she's also breaking out into acting.
It was just announced that she'll star in a new Netflix movie called A Part of You.
please welcome to the podcast the blonde bombshell czar larson hey thank you so much
we're so excited to have you my first question is really dumb but okay it's something i've always
wanted to know before we get into the niggity so you won sweden's got talent which is like
our america's got talent and these happen all over the world when you go on a show like that
i know you were young so maybe you won't remember but like did they know who they like right away
like did they follow you in the line like at what point did they realize like oh this girl's it and
they had to follow you so they got your whole story or did you just lucky at who you get like
how do they know there's hundreds of people question actually because usually when you
watch like america's got talent who they want to follow when you see like a full you know back
story and they're like my mom had cancer and then I went through this and it's usually something
very sad you know it's gonna be good you know what I mean right but um I think they interviewed
a lot of people backstage just like a few questions I think before you went on um if I
remember correctly now now when I think about it I think the audition there was like the first
edition but I think you might like send in a video or something before so it's not a completely
fully open edition like it's not that anybody who just has like oh you I'm walking past the
edition I might as well pop in and do an edition I think it's like you know it's like semi-closed
um but that's a really good question actually yeah I don't really remember it but I think it
was more of a backstory when I got to the semi-finale and the thing with that show is also
you know um The Voice or X Factor or Idol they follow you every week while on this show it was
just the audition and then it was the semi-finale and then it was the finale and it was just a wrap
like that was it yeah that was kind of a quick journey for me it wasn't like I you know I oh I
developed like i'm just a different person and like i just feel like i it was it was very kind
of in and out in a way wow um yeah so i i love the single um end of time this is the new single
and i also you have can't tame her and they're kind of both like happening at the same time
which is crazy um what is it like to release music and be a musical artist in 2023 when
it's not just the music or the music videos there's like tiktok and you have to matter in
the fashion world yeah it's a lot you know because i when i grew up um and i've always
wanted to be a singer like forever and ever i can't think about anything um in my younger years
where i wanted to do anything else and that was because i wanted to be on stage like i just wanted
to perform for people um could have ended up on broadway you know like something like that i just
want to entertain i want to be on stage and then everything around it was kind of like a new thing
for me once i got in the industry because it's like you say it's not only you know here's the
stage go and have a good time it's like so much that goes on behind the scenes and especially
now I feel like a lot of artists have so much power um in their own like on their own platforms
and with their fans like if you gain an audience yourself you don't technically really need a
record label anymore you know if you can like connect with the people who follow you then
that's what really really matters but then it's obviously nice to have a support and like the
money for videos or for radio and promotion and all of that but um yeah like the tiktok thing is
is huge obviously it's you know if you get a tiktok hit it it really translates to the the
streaming and all the other numbers um hopefully you know but i think it's yeah it's it's hard
because i don't want to make music for tiktok but then if something blows up because there's
so many good songs that's blowing up like one of my good friends ray she had her song escapism
just yeah go number one in the uk and that's because it's a really really good song and even
though it started to gain popularity online um it doesn't feel i feel like we've also reached a
point where like it's not like a gimmicky thing anymore to have a song blow up on let's say tiktok
for example but um yeah it's kind of hard to navigate because it's like okay there's no thing
uh there's no such thing as being this it's hard at least i guess there is that thing but it's hard
to be this mysterious kind of like artist that we would see maybe 20 years ago even 10 years ago
where what's like you know the most invasive thing was like mtv cribs yeah but nowadays you know
But nowadays they want to know like what you're, what you think about this.
What do you think about it?
Why haven't you spoken about this thing going on?
What do you think?
Like, it's just, you have to be very personal.
And I guess this is not really a bad thing for me because one of my personal dreams is
not, well, yes, being an artist, but also like I've watched so many YouTubers growing
up and I was like, oh, that looks really fun.
And that's something you can do.
Like I've tried to be a mysterious artist and be like sexy and like, oh, nobody will
know anything about me and honestly that's just not who I am as a person yeah I do like to be
very personal and relatable yeah but you know it's you still want that little pop star magic
shine to you well you have the shine oh thank you and I loved um you told Vogue and I wrote down
this quote that I just love so much and you said I still have that craving of wanting to be liked
and loved and I thought that was so revolutionary because someone in your I know that's so stupid
but someone in your position is really not allowed to say like I'm looking for outside
like I still I want everyone to like and love what I'm doing and that outside adoration you're
supposed to show up so confident Rihanna style like I don't give a if anyone likes what I'm
doing because I'm doing me and you're saying you're breaking that fourth wall and saying like
here's the thing about me is that like yes i'm confident and beautiful and i'm talented but like
i still kind of want y'all to like me and love me um i love that yeah i think it's very human
i think you know sometimes you could put on this kind of front where you're like i'm a bad bitch
and it's great it's great to feel that feeling but deep down like we're all humans and sometimes i'm
see I'm seeing artists and they might get you know dragged on twitter for like the tiniest thing or
whatever and they're like I don't care I don't care but I'm like I think you do because it's
just human nature but um wanting to be loved and liked I think it's also one of the reasons
why I'm an artist like I do crave that outside validation of people telling me like I'm doing
a good job or that they love my song or, um, that my performance like changed, you know, like
that is what I'm living for. Right. And I also think that it's, we get a bad rap as like women,
especially as performers, because you happen to love singing and be really talented at singing.
Unfortunately, the feedback for singing, isn't a report card. It's not a meeting with your boss
where they sit you down. It's literally how many people come to see your show. However many people
are clapping for you and cheering for you and buying your music. It means that the thing that
you love doing, you're getting good at. So it's like, I think it's bullshit when people talk
about performers and like paint this narcissistic, listen, there's narcissists everywhere. They're
not just performers. They're everywhere. They're among us. But like you, unfortunately and
unfortunately, the thing that you love to do and your skillset and your talent and your art,
it requires people to appreciate it and be very vocal about their appreciation.
So you should want that or you aren't going to survive in the business.
Cause you know, I could do, yeah, I could do, um, you know, like, well, I'm just going to play
in a basement of a jazz bar and be happy with that. But something in me has also been very
competitive since forever. So it's like, well, if I'm going to do something, I might as well just
be like the biggest and the best yeah and that's also something that's not really allowed to be
said I think also for girls to be like I want to be the best and like I want to be the biggest I
want to you know be one in a generation kind of talent in whatever you're doing and it's also
hard because if you would do sport or if you would do something that's actually like yeah you can
measure success in a way of, um, numbers and, and, and, you know, how many people are listening to
you, but it's such a subjective thing. Like if you are the fastest person on earth, you are just
the best. Yeah. But like, no one can really say, oh, this is the best artist in the world because
we all we just have different tastes and um maybe you are a huge radio artist that gets like
insane streaming numbers but you can't sell it then you can be yeah or you can have like people
who um really like connect with you i feel like you your music was with me in this time of my life
and it just, you know, changed my thing, whatever it is. And that's also huge success to be, you
know, a part of someone's life like that. So it is very hard to measure. Um, I do want to ask you
a little comparison question, Becca. I, Jack, have you, Jack, have you ever had sex with anyone that
was like a performer, like a dancer or anything? No, other than musicians, just a million musicians.
Okay. No, no, no. This doesn't count. Okay. Becca, have you ever, cause Zara is a former
ballerina like us so we becca and i knew each other because becca was on broadway i was a
rockette so we were both professional dancers and i have an ongoing theory and i hope my husband's
not listening that dance men dancers are the best sex you'll ever have in your life and i have
multiple uh investigations to prove it agree or disagree darling one thousand percent one thousand
missing out this whole time yes yeah you've been missing out jack uh czar i don't want to be too
uh but as a former dancer do you agree or disagree no 100 and i'm lucky because my
boyfriend is a dancer that's what i said i knew that yeah you stuck with it
no is it it's good it's like oh hello and especially like i think two if two people
I think it's just like body control and then if two people have body control then maybe we're
going to the moon we're going to like it's just yeah it's different I really think so and then
maybe it's just you're both musical you can hit the beat what kind of dancer is he he does a lot
of commercial he does some like contemporary too but you know like artists or performances
or tv or commercials and like do it all just yeah he does it all he's so good okay even in one of
my music videos that was cute fun I love that together yeah oh really yeah it was cute oh I
love it was a sexy being his boss you're like I'm the boss today I think I don't know if we
if we would work well together like I think we tried it and it was like okay cool I don't think
we're gonna do this again because yeah when you're so comfortable with each other it's kind of like
a sibling you know how sometimes you can be rude to the people you love the most yeah that you just
feel so comfortable with I felt like a side of me came out that I was like oh I don't want to
I don't want to be this person to you like the dynamic that we have let's just keep it as it is
because something in me is like coming out right now that I, I don't like. Yeah.
All right. So Zara has this amazing thing on her Instagram at Zara Larson, um, where she
asked people to share their secrets. And when we come back, we're going to say some of those secrets.

All right, we're back with Zara Larson.
So her Instagram, Zara Larson, is where you can find out, you know, everything about her.
And I know you're already following her because there's like 8 million people following you.
No big deal.
But you asked people to send like their weirdest, wildest secrets.
And this really has a lot to do with us, too, because we, our last book was Lady Secrets, where we did a similar thing and we asked people to send in their essays.
And, but the secrets that you got and that you posted are insane.
And I want to read a couple and get everyone's reaction.
Okay. So first, your secret was that you told people you were left-handed for an entire year?
Mm-hmm. I was committed. I think, yeah, it just comes down to, again, wanting to, like,
give me attention. Like, I want to be special. I'm different. I'm left-handed.
It, like, dawned on me as I watched the new Little Mermaid movie that I was like,
oh my God, I wanted to be a mermaid so bad growing up. But not because I wanted to be a mermaid. I
wanted to like turn into a mermaid in front of my crush so he would be like oh my god you're special
like that's what it's all about so yeah the left-handed i feel like no one in my class was
left-handed so i was like i am left-handed no you're not it was very annoying and it was hard
to do that for a year and then when i switched nobody noticed like no one noticed we we had
this conversation recently where it's like when you're a kid and you want to break your arm so
bad so you can have a cast or like get braces or get glasses just like just for the attention
like i wanted to have like an allergy or just like yes something i wanted my parents to get
divorced so bad so that i could go to school and for people to feel bad for me i love the allergy
one though it's like i really want a deadly peanut allergy so bad yeah yeah yeah oh my god okay so
here's some of the ones that zara's fans put in they said when i was little i would hunt my
stuffed animals i mean that's not a secret everyone everybody did or the couch or a pillow
the couch armrest okay um her fan wrote in and said when i was little i would lick my cat because
i thought i was helping clean him oh my god and then this one sounds like me but it wasn't i swear
to God. I used to always tell my shower. Thank you. When I got out, because if I didn't think
my shower, I ended up feeling bad. Oh, wow. That's like a little, like, like a little OCD.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. And then the last thing Zara that was absolutely crazy and,
and made me think like, what is going on is the amount of people that confessed to you that felt
like you know who I need to tell right now I need to tell Zara that I have killed the fish but I
killed the fish by cutting the tail of your home fish what is going on with your fans and is this
really like legitimately the end of time that's what I'm wondering because I also have I also
had a lot of like you know and if one person writes in oh you know killed my fish I think it
also um gets the wheels and the brain going on a lot of other people like oh yeah thinking of that
i actually killed my hamster and then when somebody says that it's like oh you know i
accidentally killed my cat and it just goes deeper and deeper and deeper and i'm like what is going
on with your guys pets like i need a murder confession yeah like it's we got some criminals
in there we got some like we've got some criminals but it does make me wonder you know because it's
anonymous or like when you post it um i mean i can see who is writing to me so it makes me wonder
are you for real you know you can just say you can make up stuff you're like as someone who's
left-handed i wanted to see if this is true i love that so much i i do think a lot of people
carry some weird dark secrets out there oh yeah i do think so thousand percent um okay when you
sang celine dion and won and started this whole thing obviously celine dion is our favorite
favorite favorite but i want to end with since you are in promo mode for new music and crushing it
and all over the place like who is your favorite female in the music but like that you've met and
hung with and like had a moment yeah speaking of ray like earlier i just feel like she's one of
the most talented people that i've ever met that i've ever worked with we wrote a lot of songs
together um earlier and uh she's such a good writer she is such a good vocalist she's a really
really good performer overall and um yeah i'm just like so happy it's going well for her and i know
she can really take it all the way there.
All right, Zara, thank you for spending time.
I'm so glad that we got to like know you
because of course we hear your songs all the time,
but it's so nice to chat with you
and get to know, you know,
the funny, sassy lady behind the hot, sexy videos.
And so everyone, please in the Lady Yang,
let's support this lady.
Listen to her brand new singles, Can't Tame Her
and the new one, End of Time.
And I know you're already following her,
but if you're not, you can check out more on Zara Larson
And you can also put in your own secret and, you know, if you need another place to tell
someone that you'd love to have an allergy, then that's it.
And, um, we weren't here for a long time, but we were here for a good time.
Thanks for listening.
