It's time for a quickie.
Podcast one presents the Lady Gang, the Hollywood girl posse with Lady Gang Quickie.
Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin and Jack Vanek.
Let's make this quick.
Hello, hello, hello.
Welcome to Lady Gang Quickie.
I'm back here with Jack and Kelty.
Oh, that is the sound of what's in the box.
What's in the box?
Do you remember when we had a jingle for it?
Yeah, it was what's in the box?
five six seven eight what's in the box jack did not do it we have taken the topics that you want
us to talk about and we've put them in the pink box which i don't know where i got it it's a
trapper keeper a hundred years ago did we have that in the original studio yes wow this has been
a part i think i got this at i have no idea remember we used to eat like sour candies while
recording yes and then we got so many bad reviews they're like stop eating literally we could have
been the biggest podcast in the world if we hadn't eaten the candy yeah like i think so many people
left it's so hard when it's right there it was so tempting yeah and i felt so i felt like crap
every time we left every time the studio just so much junk food all i did was just eat 20 pounds
of sour candies yeah i know i don't even like sour candy i don't even wanted i looked i just
went to go get a drink and i looked up in my cabinet and i was like i wish i had some sour
candies literally anyway i don't okay who wants to start jack what's in the box books wow that's
just the perfect for me no it's interesting becca just recommended a book called a little life
well elise lunin when she was on the podcast or no no i went to a talk that she did and she was
like if you want to cry your eyes out and have your heart ripped out of your chest and i was
in the mood to feel that way. And this book is so, it's so beautifully written and it's so
like beautifully devastating. I don't even know how to describe it.
It's one of those books where, and I was so glad for this palette cleanse because I'm, you know,
on my 40th book of the year, I think. And I was in a bad, bad place. I had read bummer after bummer
like as in a bad book or a sad book no bad book oh like I so I have the there's a little free
library down the street you know we're in your town where you can and so I had a bunch of little
free library books and I was like so I finished the books um for my birthday Chris for the last
years has taken me on a book haul and I get like I buy like 20 books so cute so I finished those
books and then I didn't want to spend money on books I was like I will little free library but
sometimes there's a reason that they're in the little free library and i thought i could fix it
i thought i could get away with it and then i just i wasn't even into reading some nights i was
falling asleep without even reading like that because you didn't want to read it i was like
nah um and then i read julian huff's book yeah um which actually i don't mean to say actually
like i'm so surprised but a lot of times when famous people try to write fiction books it's
like what's happening like i want to read their memoir but like i don't need but she clearly
had an and she talked about an amazing ghost writer but the story is like it was it was it
was a great book I would say it's a 7.5 8 out of 10 this book a little life 10 out of 10 devastating
beautiful it's about friendship it's about overcoming obstacles it's about true love it's
family like it is a big I I want them to make a movie but they won't because they'll screw it up
they will anyway it's great you know what it is it's the first book where I feel like I've been
able to get inside the mind of somebody who has extreme trauma, like extreme trauma and
also suicidal ideations like where, cause if you are someone who doesn't live with that
as your reality, you sit there and it's so hard to imagine what that must feel like.
And so in this book, I feel like it was the first time it made sense to me.
Yeah.
Not made sense, but that it was like, I don't know.
described and i think it's pretty accurate i don't know there could be some blowback maybe
somebody has everyone has a problem with somebody but yeah i think this author is like
insane and also i um i would just say this like my brother you know he has really bad anxiety and
the only way he's ever been able to describe it to me his anxiety is he's like he has a really
hard time leaving like leaving the house like so when he's in his bubble he's a lot like me
i'm like same bro like when i'm in my bubble i'm fine but then leaving but he's like it's like as
if there's a fence around my yard that's an electric fence and i know that whatever's on
the other side the electric fence is not gonna hurt me and i'm gonna be fine like my brain knows
that yeah but in order to get there i have to go through this electric fence every day yeah and i
know going through the electric fence is gonna electrify me and feel terrible and so that's how
he describes his anxiety and he's like like i'm in the right mind i know that nothing's coming for
me i'm gonna be fine i'll go pick you up at the airport i'll go do this thing like i'm fine when
i get out there but i have to pass over the electric fence which is my own anxiety about it
and that is like devastating and i there was passages of this book that i always like when
i read i flip i'm a bad at my books but i flip down where i'm at but i flip up something i want
to write in my journal after i finished the book so there's been a lot of flip-ups oh there was
actually a quote i used this i wrote a friend a letter for her birthday we did like a little like
tea ceremony for her oh and i ceremony yeah like a british tea ceremony or like a no like um like
a ceremonial like um oh you know yeah so there was this quote in it why wasn't friendship as good as
a relationship why wasn't it even better it was two people who remained together day after day
bound not by sex or physical attraction or money or children or property but only by the shared
agreement to keep going the mutual dedication to a union that could never be codified friendship
was witnessing another's slow drip of miseries and long bouts of boredom and occasional triumphs
it was feeling honored by the privilege of getting to be present for another person's
most dismal moments and knowing that you could be dismal around him in return oh so good yeah
like this book is filled with that like it is so it's so good i love it well i've never thought
the box was gonna well you know what i'm not a reader but i'm going on a vacation soon and i
want like you should try not that book i know what you need no not this i want a book that's
like that will make me like want to keep reading yep but maybe with like a twist or something
but what about the one about the octopus that's what i was just gonna say you have to read
remarkably bright creatures i have it upstairs you would love it yeah it's everything you love
a tiny little octopus love it um hope change sweet little lady there's a little lady there's
a twist okay and they're making a movie a movie thing did you say sally field's gonna play her
oh you'll love it can i have yours yeah you can have my book you want to bring a book or you want
to take my kindle no i want to bring a book okay yeah great okay how exciting see books is not a
that topic it's a great topic okay dream vacay oh japan is on my list this is a great time to
go to japan because our dollar is so strong really compared to theirs it's on my list when
you were taught you were talking about it earlier and i i just i know i want to go so i don't like
an activities vacation yeah when i vacation i like to go and just put myself back together so
it's like me on a cruise on a boat on a beach reading sleeping loving being warm eating food
that's it like i even when we went to europe like i just i can't do a museum like i just can't i
would rather i didn't think i could but then you do westminster abbey you'll change you just find
the one i just i can't i don't like crowds like i don't like any of that and i know japan is going
to be crowds and activities and i wake up in the morning and go go go and ccc and i need to be
really ready for that. But what I really want to do is go with someone who's been before.
Cause I don't want to go dumb stuff. I want to go to the great stuff and I want to do the shopping.
And then I'm worried that I'll come back with so many tchotchkes for my house.
Doesn't it make you feel like you need all the tchotchkes? Cause they're great. Yeah. Yeah.
They're so good. Jack. Well, I mean, yeah, that's my like trip for next year that I really want to
do. I've been before I was there for five days and I'm like, I haven't even scratched the surface of
tokyo like it was so amazing um but i want to do like two weeks where i do like a week in tokyo
and like a week in the countryside to like kind of get both of it but that's on my list you know
i love italy i could go back to italy every single year sardinia specifically but that's more of like
a relax or whatever i just going to london again i hadn't been in probably i think it was nine years
the last time i had been oh my gosh and i i just it's the perfect amount of things i like to do
and the types of things i like to do there's beautiful hotels which i love there it feels
like new york but cleaner and more civilized you know how i like a city vacation yeah um the food
is incredible now i mean it never british food was never the best no they just literally bobby
just did an entire podcast about how london he believes has the best food scene right now
yeah yeah like for the last couple years it's been really good yeah that's what she means
now before it was bangers and mash which i mean yeah like traditional british food isn't like the
most well but nobody there it's a it's like a melting pot so it's like the indian food that
we had dishum dishum i mean it's like the best restaurant in the world the most delicious indian
food the afternoon tea i could do every day a crumpet i just love in the shopping and also
i just saw a meme on instagram that was like it was like the two girls standing next to each other
in the most expensive neighborhood in a foreign city and they're like i could see myself living
what would it be like if i had a townhouse with a black door and some iron until you can't get a
cup of ice or an ac we had beautiful ac in our um hotel and i actually had a lot of ice beverages
i can't afford that was it expensive so expensive oh the browns yeah okay wait i want to ask you
this what are you wearing on your dream vacay since this is a fashion episode oh oh i want to
just say i did a carry-on for my whole trip to london i planned that out so perfectly i can't
even believe how good my packing was and i also didn't half-ass it with my fashions i just was
smart with my fashion this is what i'm doing on my vacation coming up too i'm like i'm actually
gonna plan my outfit for the day not where i'm like i'm gonna bring 10 dresses i'm like okay
day one i'm wearing this yep that's something i've never done before that's what i usually do
and i only bring one or two extra items so you you really have to commit yeah and now you end
up shopping too i love right now for a city dream vacay you have to have a good shoe a comfortable
shoe um you can't mess around with that so i did a converse one day and i did a like platform
chunky sandal that i got at marshall's which was really comfortable and like enough cushioning
under the foot and a trouser pant is great because you can go from museum to tea yep and you're in a
trouser pant and like a little flowy top and it's it's like an easy whatever yep you know well one
thing that i literally just started doing that is the most common sense thing in the world that i
have never done is just bring an extra pair of jeans like i'm an outfit girl so i'm like especially
like for this like a matching set yeah like a matching set a dress a heel why am i bringing
heels whatever but i never think about just bringing a jean because at the end of the day
i'm going to want to just wear a jean and tank top that's the trick is you do plan out every
single outfit you bring one extra dress yeah like an easy that you could do with flats or heels yeah
and day to night a day to night day to night or you and an extra pair of jeans yeah and like a
few tank tops what am i wearing in japan am i wearing like you're wearing what you have on i
feel like i'm wearing this with a sneaker and a backpack yes oh yeah she's in a denim jumpsuit
because i really feel so satisfied when there's a pocket for everything and i don't actually have
to bring a purse yeah that's nice it's like a pocket for my lip gloss a pocket for the pockets
pockets pockets make me happy right now too okay give me the yeah i know that's why i love it
honestly the reason i wear cargo pants again is because you wear cargo pants i copied you
that's so crazy because i've been wearing them for years oh i probably copied you
anything that she actually does copy from me she always says it's from you too
the charm bracelets no she didn't say she copied me in charms i didn't think i copied anyone on
charms but did you see vogue did an article about like the charm bracelet charm bracelets are the
thing now well i love the bag charms oh i love a bag charm i just this is so weird but i just you
know ren and stimpy yeah i just brought bought a ren keychain from etsy to put on my back the
reason that she doesn't realize she copies from you is because the way that you do it is different
yeah that's true like if if i'm gonna do a bag charm it's not gonna be ren and stimpy i mean
I don't, I'll put some respect on their name, but like, yeah, I do appreciate it.
It would, for me, be something more aligned with her.
So in her mind, it would be, and like your cargo pants have like chains, like you're
on the emo tour and I bring you like what Goop does.
She's bringing me an accessible cargo, cargo pant and accessible charm.
I'm bridging the gap.
So like you're the girl literally on the streets of Japan or in the streets of New York that
they find on in fashion week and they're like street style.
This is the look.
And then they dumb it down.
They dumb it down to be like luxury
and fabulous and then they dumb it down more
and then it comes to me, which is where
it dies. This makes
sense.
The Lady Gang.
Oh, what's in that box?
Ooh.
Cats. Oh.
The musical? No. Mr. Mistoffelees
again?
For the second time in so short of a time.
Cats. I want to tell you something.
I do too. I have an admission
to make. Are you guys cat people?
maybe page the sorbo got a cat named daphne and i think it's very into it really what kind of cat
is that she's tiny and white well she's not gonna be tiny forever maybe i don't know is she full
size i don't know they probably make micro cats now i don't think so but i couldn't believe i
when i saw it it reminded me of a stuffed animal i had as a child it was a little round face i'm
still deathly allergic so it's not going to change deathly allergic yeah um remember in the beginning
of lady gang i slept over at leah's house and her and her cat had been in the bed i was recently
looking for that picture where i looked like will smith from um when does he have that will smith in
that movie the rom-com where he has a um allergic reaction no i was thinking of something else i
have no idea what you're talking about but i do remember you having the allergic reaction that's
what i looked like like i ate myself my face it was so that's why i can't have a cat but i'm very
into daphne okay so here's my magical wisdom stuff please hey now everybody get that yeah
all right so um when my brother was struggling a few years ago really badly i did the thing that
I do, which is, I think I can just throw money, uh, thoughts, ideas at people and fix them. So,
um, it's, it's a, it's a choice. It's well-intended. I talk about it in, in therapy quite a lot. Um,
so one of the things that I convinced myself that my brother needed was an animal and he had never
wanted an animal, never asked for an animal, never talked about wanting an animal, never has brought
it up ever but i was convinced that his happiness was having a buddy so i convinced him somehow and
he was like fresh off the not good boat uh to i was like i found this animal rescue and you're
gonna foster a cat and he was like and he got into it he was like okay no cool like i think this is
great yeah what they did and they them up is they didn't match well because they gave him a kitten
a brand new baby kitten couldn't be alone cried all the time must be potty trained added to the
anxiety yeah it was a disaster and four days into it he's like i don't want to disappoint you but
like this is not for me this cat won't stop crying it's very needy like it's like having a puppy like
having a puppy is not having a dog no it's having a puppy and it's completely different that's why
i only get adult dogs now so he gave the cat back and then he's been yelling at me this whole time
so then i went to go visit him a few weeks ago and there was a neighborhood cat and this cat
we don't know its name the cat was a dog and i was like hold the phone what so the cat was a cat
but it acted like a dog acted like a dog so when it saw us driving up or out driving it would walk
across the street to be like yo what's up and it came and it sat on his porch and then it just put
its foot on the door like let me in and so i was like well let the cat in he's like yeah sometimes
he comes over. So then he's in the kitchen, the neighborhood cat is in the kitchen. And then I
went to go pet it and it laid on its back. Like it was Callie. And then I was like, well, do you
think, and then I was Matt's like, we can't keep the, it's going to be weird if these people on
their camera, see us bring their, our bear cat into our house. I was like, but it's a neighborhood
cat. He's like, no, no, this cat's cool. Anyway. So then he goes home the next day. He comes back
over. I brought him downstairs. I watched TV with the cat. The cat was basically a dog. It was the
coolest cat ever i've never been a cat person in my life but i get it and i want to know where i
can get one of these decats a dog cat is it kind of like a is it a breed related thing where is it
like a tabby cat they're more like dogs like what is it it was an adult dog so cool no i know but
you need to ask around to know but i don't want you to get a cat in this house i can't come over
if you get one either okay no i won't but i want to i just never thought cats could be so cool
because my friends have two cats but when i bring callie over they run away like because they hate
the dog so i never maybe but even when callie isn't there i think they assume that callie's
there with when they see me so they always hide like i just but cats normal cats i think just do
hide like that they're not like they're not so affectionate little bitches i think anyway that
cat was rad i need to show you a picture of page de sorbo's cat i've seen it you did i'm obsessed
so cute okay
you have to say it my space
what's in the box
what's in the box okay my space
oh I mean it's
my glory days yes I miss
it so much I wish that somebody
would buy it again and revive
it because I feel like
the younger generation will be into it
and then we could use it as like a nostalgia
yeah I want to bring back the top eight
I want people to feel like they're in there on their
toes if you're gonna get bumped down
no ma'am I miss it
That, I think that's when the internet peaked.
Like you had the perfect amount of socializing on social media.
And then your real life.
And then your real life.
You couldn't be on it all the time.
It didn't work on your phone, obviously.
So it's like, it only works when you're home after school.
You check MySpace and then you go do the rest of your day.
And then I learned how to code HTML from it.
So I was learning something.
And it's where all of my pictures went viral back in the day.
I miss it.
do you get mad when you are on the like myspace girls who used to be it and aren't anymore
myspace articles because i'm usually one of the only ones that ends up being like she's actually
successful imagine that yeah and then everybody else is oh not alumni that made it yeah yeah you
truly are yeah and they'll they'll be like um was it a phase or not like i'm always on those lists
yeah because like some of these girls look the same really yeah like it's still still it's very
presenting emo when jared's on tour with follow boy and you see like the follow boy guys is it
like cool or is it weird no it's not weird it's cool they're they're cool like would you think
if i went it would be cool or what do you mean like if i saw pete wentz is he going to be like
there's that girl i don't know how much he remembers you probably doesn't remember you
made out with him no that was me oh jack did sorry that was me i made out with everybody
no they're so no they're so nice but they they travel with like a full-on security detail and
they don't go anywhere even backstage without them they're that famous i think it's just
i mean they are but i think it's also just like security i mean i so wait you can't even get close
to them no like it's you're just never alone with them no you can if they come to you like
if they're like oh you can't approach them yeah you can't like go into their dressing how many
members are there four it's the originals yeah same beyond wow i mean if you're making that
much money why wouldn't you don't stop yeah totally so is patrick stump so cute they're
so cute i love them i want to go i don't know if they're touring but we should go you can come
with me you take me backstage i'll break through that security detail oh god it's me no he remembers
me because he used to see me on carpets and stuff yeah he has a great memory i'm sure there's that
