Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, the following podcast is a Lady Gang Network and Podcast One production, which means it's going to be awesome. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin here with Jack Vanek and Kelty Knight. happy last episode of 2019 oh boy it's new year's eve if any of you losers are listening to this hope you had a good time singing a spice girl song it's not i didn't even know that was okay if anyone's actually listening to this on new year's eve sorry actually i appreciate it
Starting point is 00:00:56 Because I hate New Year's Eve. I freaking hate New Year's Eve. It's the goddamn worst. It sucks. Oh, you know you'll be at some party. I'm going to be in Nashville. Well, I am in Nashville right now. Oh, interesting.
Starting point is 00:01:07 But I don't like, New Year's Eve is bullshit. Because it's never as good as you want it to be. Expectations. Expectations are always squashed. Worst. Chris makes fun of me because way back in the day during New Year's, I used to like have a tiny top hat. And I used to like love to wear it.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Oh my gosh. That hat is stupid. That is sick. So gross. Like a tiny little... Ew, I fucking hate tiny hats. I hate tiny hats. Tiny hats go...
Starting point is 00:01:31 Belong on dolls. Not on humans. Especially not adults. I understand. Certainly not adults. Okay, now it's time for... Good week. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Bad week. Oh, no. Good week, bad week. New Year's Eve edition. Oh, I'm going to go. Oh, okay. You know what? I haven't gone first in a while.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Go. Okay, my good week is pretty simple. My allergies have been f***ing terrible recently. I don't know what it is in LA, but like my apartment has a lot of particles floating in the air and I got a molecule. Oh, do you love it? Love it. I think they might be a sponsor, but I bought mine full price.
Starting point is 00:02:09 They were at one point. Oh, well, I didn't get it. It should come back. I did not get a discount. They're expensive. They're expensive as f***, but I've heard that they're the best. It has been a game changer. Really?
Starting point is 00:02:17 So I highly recommend getting an air purifier if you have really bad allergies. I got the Dyson one. I don't know. I can't tell. Zach's the one who has really bad allergies Yeah it's a bummer So anyways good week Bad week
Starting point is 00:02:28 So I recently wanted to get my hair cut And my hair was just a little bit too long I wanted to get a few inches off Maybe get some layers Because it's been very heavy one length You put yourself at layers My girlfriend that usually cuts my hair Just got knee surgery
Starting point is 00:02:46 So I'm like I'm not going to bug her I'm going to go to a salon I haven't been to a salon in like 10 years Did you yelp this or something? i got a hookup from a friend nope and always pay full no i paid full price oh but she recommended you paid full price for layers paid full price go into the salon show the guy what i'm looking for have endless amounts of videos and pictures and whatever he's like okay gotcha then he starts cutting my hair i knew the way that he was cutting it was wrong he was just kind of holding it up and
Starting point is 00:03:16 cutting it down in a straight line it was weird cuts it styles it i go home i texted my friend and i was like i don't i don't know how i feel about the haircut he styled it kind of weird and she's like oh no no he's not good at styling like you just have to do it yourself so then i take a shower blow dry it straight out this is a disaster it looks like i cut my hair with my eyes closed with a pair of dulciers i sent back a picture it does look like it it was like half can i speak to the manager half mullet it's just one it looks like you got gums on your hair no it's i'll send you that straight it's so that's why my hair is so curly today because all i can do is just try to curl it and make it look really messy and it's just one one chunk of a layer and then he even
Starting point is 00:04:05 forgot a whole piece in my back so like one chunk was an inch longer than the rest of my hair so then i went to my friend anna and she kind of tried to blend it a little bit and it looks better than before but i got by shears and you know what i used to be so attached to my hair like i had extensions for 10 years i could not have hair that's shorter than boob length yeah so this is the shortest i've ever had my hair since i was a year and a half it looked really cute on your instagram when it was straight the other day yeah i think i can well i use the revlon like blow dry yeah i can either do that but that's not a it's not a me haircut it's kind of weird yeah i don't know so for a while so sorry hair grows back though i'll be fine at some point yeah i'm not
Starting point is 00:04:45 really attached to hair either it's whatever it's kind of fun when i get a bad cut you know what i've been thriving in this more than i should good for you make the best hair whatever you're so strong jack kelty do you want to go or what should i um i'll go um i have a soul a soul yeah bad week bad week my dad um stayed with me for a month yeah and it was it was so great but anyway he left and now I'm all alone again without a male in my house. I mean, Chris doesn't count because Chris doesn't do any of like, like my dad would be there and he'd be like in the morning, I just like trot down and the coffee pot would already be full of coffee. And like he took all my Amazon boxes and broke them down and put them in the recycling. Like he was just such a great
Starting point is 00:05:30 dad anyway. So he, he left, which is my bad week. My good week is, is that I found out because I just devil's advocate real quick for your marriage yeah your dad's retired right yeah okay he is looking for purpose yeah your husband works a full-time job and is flying back and forth across the country so like and also he's opting out of amazon breakdown those aren't even man things to do like it's not like it's like you had to fix something yeah i had to stick up no my dad has fixed a lot of things chris is a great husband we all know he's not going to fix the baseboard like that's fine yeah anyway the good week is is that i realize that i have a soul because i have a hard time caring about anyone like deeply like i know this is sad but like i a lack of empathy yes lack
Starting point is 00:06:13 of empathy like a psychopath yeah psychopaths do have that quality number one and so i'm like you know a lot of times when i would say goodbye to my parents or say goodbye to people like i'm sad like i'm like oh i will miss you but like i don't feel it in my gut yeah like you know when my dad left i had to take myself on a walk with callie and i cried for like an hour and then i was depressed for the whole night like i missed him in my gut and i was like this was the best four weeks of my life like i've never felt happier it was so great to have him with me and i love him so much so i have a soul yay good job kelty dad if you're listening i don't want you to come stay with me for four weeks i can't wait till he comes back i like honestly they're coming back again
Starting point is 00:07:01 and i like can't wait i was like maybe my dad could come a week early like he's just that's so cute we're the same people you are yeah we hate social interaction so we would like often just sit in silence together yeah they're not we love to-do lists like we love we are morning people we get up in the morning we test test test test and then we're like and i'm out and i'll sleep at seven like he never he was just so chill he would he only asked of me one thing well he's not overbearing the grays out of my eyebrows that's so cute i'm glad he knows to ask for that most men don't know um okay go ahead i feel that every time my family leaves but i have to stifle it and not address it oh i don't even i would not be able to do that like i just have
Starting point is 00:07:39 to be like like if i sit in it for too long i'll get that sad depressed even if i'm happy for them to go because like i need space like from everyone and everyone but like that that's nice that you had that reaction i know i have a soul you i'm glad you have a soul no and i wrote it down right away i was like i was literally on that walk and i was like i have to tell the girls good i have a soul of course kelty brings it back to a business transaction well um i you know wouldn't be right if in lady gang fashion i didn't tear both of you down so after you're feeling so good well you're not so much with your haircut but i already feel horrible sorry this is more for kelty okay cool rude so we're writing a book right now or it's done actually and um we
Starting point is 00:08:22 talk about the importance of like rsvp-ing and letting people know when you can't make something well i got a phone call from a mutual friend yes and she wrote me too she she was like hey what's going on i'm so sad you didn't make it yeah she's like i'm so sad you didn't make it to this birthday party blah blah i was like oh i'm so sorry i was out of town blah blah she's like yeah and we just started chatting and she's like yeah uh jack and kelty neither of them responded to the email or text messages when i asked if they were coming and i was like boom bitches boom i have no idea who you're talking about jen green her birthday party i did respond to her and i said i was also out of town i was in san diego did you respond to the evite i don't respond to evite i didn't
Starting point is 00:09:04 even open you guys you have to respond to an evite why because it's an invitation i see this is the shit everybody out there in the lady gang world like these girls are all talking no action i might be the biggest dickhead on this podcast but i will respond to your evite because i know that you took the time to create the evite and the guest list and you need to know how many mini cupcakes are going to be at your party do you know what i i for sure didn't do it i saw like the friends giving and i deleted it right away but then just say no she was mad and then i've gotten two holiday party invites since then and you've responded and I've no I learned a lesson I got a message from Jen and she was like hey what's going on like you didn't respond and I was like oh like you should
Starting point is 00:09:53 know like I'm not coming to your party well I will what are you the queen of England like there's probably 800 people in her life she can't know and predict if you're gonna want to come but if you know me you know I never want to come yeah but I mean same that's not true I sent a text last night about something coming up and i said you guys are not going to want to go but here and you have to extend the invitation kelty's like oh are you going and i'm like well i don't ask no i don't want to go but if you if i have to go i will okay anyway no i did feel bad and it did give me a moment of self-reflection and then since then i've been thinking about i should text jen but i haven't yet well listen i to my defense i did write her back but i didn't respond to the
Starting point is 00:10:32 evite well because i'll be honest chase people i don't go to things that require evites usually i only hang out with my five friends that i have usually madonna yeah but you're invited to a lot of things that require evites i never know you knew you had to respond now you never thought a non-response was a response oh my god oh my god yes it's so rude yeah okay but but like we get invited to so many things i don't like but so i just don't so here's my my good week to that is that similar to kelty usually what i do my flaw is that i receive the evite you look at it i look at it and i'm like i don't know and we say in our book like you should take a beat before you do anything yeah but usually my reaction is take a beat and then i say yes and then i really regret
Starting point is 00:11:21 it so i actually completely boycotted all holiday parties this year and it felt so good i wasn't busy i didn't respond to your evite oh i'm gonna be out of town i can't make it i just said will not attend will not attend will not attend and you're gonna see me on instagram with a face mask in my pajamas did you get invited to that many holiday parties yes oh see i don't but again i don't have friends so i don't either anyway i get invited to a lot of holiday parties but from work stuff i mean everyone wants to be my friend that's what i realized people want to be my friend and i don't want to be friends with anyone something very funny that kelty did you're welcome no don't do that can i have some of your water for my tea for your tea yeah um kelty recently speaking of
Starting point is 00:12:07 wanting to be people's friends so there's a girl that we know who is going through a divorce and she's a public person and so is her husband and we were texting about it the other day and i was like god i wonder what happened it's so sad because we really like this person and yes it just seems like it's kind of a nasty divorce yeah but nobody knows and kelsey's like yeah i mean i messaged her but she didn't really say anything i'm like you work for entertainment tonight like what do you think she's gonna open up her vault she's like trying to get a soundbite on instagram i wasn't and everyone knows that about me is that when i'm working i'm working and when i'm not i'm yeah but like something as precious as a vault i mean yeah no i like i'm very interested in what
Starting point is 00:12:43 happened and i wish she would tell me i'm not gonna tell anyone right no you are good like i've told you things that are very chris and i have this church and state where i'm like am i allowed to know this and he's like yes or no and if i'm allowed to know it i might whisper it in someone's ear and if i'm not allowed to know it i never say anything ever again you are when we come back we're going to talk about how to manifest for 2020 now back to the lady gang welcome back it is officially manifest time so what i was doing is that i was recently reading the holiday edition of magnolia journal from what is that the chip and joe thing yeah joanna i don't know how i know that and she had this great end of the year section
Starting point is 00:13:23 that had a lot of is a whole magazine yes they have like a whole empire magazine seems weird and who reads a magazine exactly you know what is that the business venture you go anyways sorry who reads print dark ages actually it's the demo of people that buy magazines they also read like garden and gun yeah they're good housekeeping or homekeeping whatever that like you're good housekeeping yeah good home i'm not gonna know sorry okay well so in in the magnolia journal which everyone knows what it is and loves it um she had this end of the year prompt and i thought i found it very inspiring and so i've stolen a few of the prompts for us to talk through and now you'll recognize
Starting point is 00:14:08 ladies that a lot of times i'm talking about the ladies listening not the ladies sitting with me right now that i'll do these type of things and then the girls will be like you had so much time to prepare so we don't know our answers but no this week i emailed this out early so everyone could pre-prepare i prepared about 60 of these answers i did too happy for you but i do appreciate the pre-preparer too because this is something that would be like i don't i need to think yeah it would be a boring episode i did it for them not for you okay thank you okay so let's begin what surprised you the most this year oh this is fun surprised me this year was that uh we finished shooting lady gang tv at the beginning of 2019 i did not miss it one single
Starting point is 00:14:51 day nope when it ended i have never finished a project and not had i missed i missed people and i missed like yeah working with those people but like i did not miss doing that show no and it was really i'm so glad that we've all ended up at the same place yeah because i was there the whole time i mean we were we were there a lot of the time but we had to keep trudging along yeah and it has nothing to do with anything in particular it was just it was too much for us to take on we took on so much and then we didn't scale back on anything else no and because it was a hybrid show it was we were doing this whole talk show element of it and then the whole like other part of the reality part of it it was just a lot and then we were like using our lunch break to podcast
Starting point is 00:15:36 like it was too much we took on so much so that kind of goes along with mine like oh what okay um i was just gonna say i'm surprised at how how everything kind of has flowed so smoothly for us like in our other ventures that we didn't even really realize when that was not didn't happen the way that we wanted it to yeah the thing that surprised me most this year was um that i am not a fraud i put not a fraud i feel like i've spent my whole life like fooling everyone into believing in me in some way not in like a super personal way but like in the dance i'm just like never the best dancer and i'm like i always felt like i kind of frauded you and like i can't even do a single left wing on tap shoes like and i was a rockette like that's amazing you know it's like
Starting point is 00:16:20 a move you need you know what i mean like i faked my way through those wings in that audition like a crazy person like that and so i was like i felt like such a fraud and then even when we're starting lady gang like we the first couple years we had to be our own hype men so much and be like no it's great people love podcasting like podcasting is real like we're so cool like we we created our own thing and like 2019 was the year that like all of that hard work in various areas all came to fruition and you'd walk into rooms and people would be like wow you did this thing and i didn't feel like a fraud yeah we actually had hype men that weren't ourselves except we're still not getting invited to cool things it's fine yeah because we don't have a publicist that's probably
Starting point is 00:17:01 why right yeah i mean i also think like sometimes we're so busy doing the stuff that we don't necessarily have the like bandwidth to go out and work ourselves out pimp it yeah it's like the people that are at those things all the time they are not having like actual real jobs their job is the pimping the pimping and it's we need to clone ourselves we need to clone ourselves that's dope because i don't want to be the one going to things yeah me either clones going okay let's go around the tape this is kind of a fast one standouts that mark your year songs okay um i wrote mine down machine gun kelly i didn't write the song down it's the song that he did with young blood and it sounds like an early emo song that i was obsessed with it's called like i'm not okay or i
Starting point is 00:17:48 i'm okay or something okay um luke combs i love arizona the band and then marin morris the bones is like one of the best ones of the year marin morris was mine so far it was the year of marin morris for me i like it better than girl or uh what's the album that she just came out with girl i don't know what it's called anyways she it's a good year for her music it's the year i fell in love with sean mendez um i was always a side watcher radio listener and then i went a deep dive into the discography of sean mendez really also the jonas brothers they brought us some good music this year they really did i'm a sucker for you yeah they did it i didn't even like jonas brothers round one no no i didn't either i think we're too old for that i don't
Starting point is 00:18:33 know i thought so but then there's people our age that are really fangirling that's true it's weird book um that this was one that i'm very disappointed i read maybe three books this year and i gave you my crawdads did you ever read it i can't get into a book i don't know what's happening i think it's just my brain is not in that mode right now okay i read one book that i had to read for the stacks and then that was it i bet oh my god i you guys are losers i used to read so much and i i can't get in this mind space either i don't know this book that i just read that will change your mind it's called a man named ove like doubt it ove no it's such a beautiful story i'll give you a no i don't really like like i like thank you for not doing what you were about
Starting point is 00:19:17 to do see i'm catching myself okay movies tv something caught your eye um okay i wrote these down too you reminded me earlier that a star is born was 2019 that shooketh me to my core can i tell you guys a movie that shooketh me to my core it was a documentary it was called abducted in plain sight oh wow that was the fucking craziest story i have ever heard in my life crazy did you see it oh wait my book was chelsea handler's book i didn't read it i listened to it but yes it counts sorry also i didn't read my book i listened to it there you go sorry i had to go circle back to that okay uh the tv show that rocked my world this year is the morning show are you guys watching it zach refuses to set up my apple tv for me so you can get on your phone i don't want to watch
Starting point is 00:20:03 something on my phone what am i 16 anyway i have another good show i finally feel i finally feel you feel seen i feel seen like i'm reese witherspoon in this in this is it nomination worthy yes okay but i don't reese's character first of all she would never be that close in age like the age is off i know they both were executive producing they both needed big parts like the jen aniston is right the reese witherspoon would be like 26 got it and she's like playing 35 oh is she like she's like the young budding reporter that's like gonna replace the old oh no that doesn't work for me they're the same age in my mind right so that's the only thing is like the the the reese character is like a little bit too old to be scaring the alex
Starting point is 00:20:45 character yeah um another show that i loved was pen 15 so good on hulu just got nominated for critics choice award i think did it people love it it's so funny did you see it it's like two girls that are our age but they're playing themselves in seventh grade yeah like when we would have been in seventh they're literally they're like 32 years old it's so funny check that out okay i love this one what standout feelings marked your year exhaustion oh mine is stability which is weird because it's like the first time in my life that i'm in a stable relationship i feel stable professionally financially financially and emotionally because I'm usually like a fucking wreck so yeah you've really kept your shit together this year
Starting point is 00:21:29 congrats I try I've only cried like well I cried a lot during Lady Gang TV but after that was over we all did minimally minimal what was yours oh I put oh the feelings I early in the year like middle of the year early in the year middle of the year I read this great quote and I think I brought it to you guys about being the villain in other people's story and sometimes you just have to get used to the fact that like you might be the villain in someone else's story and that kind of shooketh me because i felt like i was villainous and then i was like leaning into being the villain and then from that time on i have learned that i might be the villain in other people's story but i don't necessarily have to lean into my own being a villain does that make sense like you started to
Starting point is 00:22:14 like give yourself permission like i gave myself permission to be cruella deville because i was like well that's what everyone fucking thinks yeah right and now i felt that and now i'm like i'm like i might still be the villain like ex-boyfriends whatever but it's like but it's things beyond your control and there's other good people good people that are the villain in my story like they're not necessarily horrendous people that i've made up in my head but like we're gonna have villains on either side of our story but that doesn't mean or give you permission to like be a villain yeah i'm a villain in a lot of people's stories right but i mean like who but that's the thing yeah that's okay okay everybody's gonna be a villain in somebody's story well
Starting point is 00:22:58 unless that's something you can't get away with and if you aren't then you're people pleasing too much so maybe you should try yeah but i'm aware that the villains in my story are not villains at all in life like there's not one person that i like there are people that i've had bad experiences with that i'll forever think of as villains but like i guarantee you that i could never sit down face to face with them and tell them that they're terrible right because i know that they're not yeah it's like everyone has like that facet and you kind of like there's something about up until this year that i was like you're either a good person or a bad person it was like very black and white to me and now i'm like oh yeah yeah you might be a villain in
Starting point is 00:23:34 my story but like someone's still gonna marry you whoa okay whoa best part of your typical day i usually enjoy like the morning time with like coffee and you know usually with orly i said dog yeah dog my favorite moment of the day is coming home washing my face and putting on my robe my my wizard robe your house coat what is it your sleeping bag with a hood it's so great it's like my harry potter robe it's the best thing in the world i actually the same brand barefoot dreams i bought my agent a bathrobe this year for christmas just their traditional like whatever because i was like even though i know yours is so good it's hard to translate when she opens it up and sees like a house coat it's not an attractive robe it's not at all and the seahorse on or like
Starting point is 00:24:29 the starfish yeah it's the zipper is so ugly like i go out in public with it because i don't care but one time I was with my mom and I went out in public with it and she's like are you kidding me it's embarrassing it's embarrassing I love it it's the comfiest thing I've ever put on my body their stuff is good it's good what was your greatest adventure this year that's one I couldn't really think of I know like a physical adventure yeah I went on my camping trip it was in my healthy it's like when I went to the beach the one time my one day at the beach this year well no i was i put it in my manifestos i love the outdoors because i grew up at my parents lake house and we spent all summer like the lake house is pretty small so you were like outside from
Starting point is 00:25:10 morning to night having campfire smell and like making your food over a fire and like dirt and gravel and i'm so great and so i really wanted to go camping this year and we took this camping trip and we packed up and like we set up camp like cooked over the fire and everyone smelled like bug spray and like campfire and it really made me so happy and it had no purpose except for me to go on an adventure like there was no like oh yes it was great because then i took a great instagram like i it was it what the beach day even i was self-centered because i was like this is my anniversary and like you know it's for me like the camping trip was just a weekend i took off yeah so great did i go to japan for that like three-day weekend this year yes was that this year
Starting point is 00:25:53 was right after we finished lady game oh wow yeah that was probably the big adventure like a last minute trip to japan you guys just like overnighted japan yeah it was that's crazy it was a long i got sick on the flight there that was horrible oh yeah no okay jack's life is an adventure i know that's true biggest failure this year i'm so i don't i don't think of things as like i was trying to think of that too i don't think of like i mean we could think some of the stuff that we've had happen in lady gangs of failure but i feel like once something happens that's not the way that we wanted it to something else opens up i just don't think of failures i would say well i deal with failure almost every day yeah um failure and rejection but my biggest
Starting point is 00:26:38 failure is that i don't think i was a very good friend because i was not really engaging very much like i wasn't checking in a lot with friends in new york and i wasn't like i just wasn't making it a priority like because i said i was exhausted this year for some reason yeah because we built a company yeah i mean that could be it there's that um mine was that at the beginning of last year i had this dream that i was going to be a sexual now palmer like i was like really like i was like really gonna bring out like make out kelty back from like when we first met and like i it's she's not coming back no i tried i didn't even try that's why it's my favorite i didn't even think about trying i was so also exhausted this year that i was like i have this whole drawer full
Starting point is 00:27:27 of outfits that i should have thrown one on this year and i didn't do you have a lot of lingerie yes you do when's the last time you wore it like a year like ago like a bad like even in our honey on our anniversary i packed it all and then i was like let's just get naked like i just like didn't do the like weird stuff it yeah i know anyway i'm gonna this is gonna be better 2020 I need to put something on my list real quick. For next year? No. Is it for lingerie?
Starting point is 00:27:55 No, it's a bad week. It's reminding me of. Oh, okay. My biggest win. I think, I mean, professionally, I feel like our biggest ones are book deal. Yeah. It's so exciting. Something I never thought I'd ever do in my life.
Starting point is 00:28:09 So it's exciting. And it's like a whole long-winded situation that won't really manifest until next year. But yeah. my biggest win I think was negotiating my new contract at ET it was such an emotional roller coaster because in order to really negotiate you have to like make peace with maybe not having the job and the thing that I'm so proud of is that I was a real stickler about you know we often work on the weekends and so for so many years I've worked like seven eight nine thirty three days in a row without a day off and it's really hard to then like cash in on that because they don't
Starting point is 00:28:43 really have a comp system and I was like I have to if I work seven days I have to have a day off that is like just a day not a flying day not a I came in and did voiceover like a day off yeah and they really were like we don't really put a comp day in a contract and I was like I absolutely have to have it in writing because I knew that if it wasn't in writing I wouldn't have the courage myself to like ask for it I would be like whatever it's not that big of a deal I only worked a half day, blah, blah, blah, on day seven. And I made a promise with myself that I was going to get it in writing. And then I held out for it past the point of where like, they could have just been like, Oh, yourself. And I got it. And I literally just cashed in my first, I've worked seven days
Starting point is 00:29:24 in a row and got a day off and sent a picture of me in my pajamas at home on a Friday, like to my agents. And I was like, here's me drinking coffee at 10 AM on my day off because I worked seven days in a row. Like, I'm so proud of that. That was such a boss move. Like you really, that was very inspiring to us i think and like to anybody else we didn't think you had it in you because i'm a i'm like you're a pleaser well and also like this business is hard to i'm easily replaceable yeah it is it's like like you know so i just like really i like that i was proud of myself um okay i didn't say mine oh yeah i'm good what you in probably just buying a new house yeah i want to buy a house i know how is it going i've been wondering i mean we haven't
Starting point is 00:30:10 been there enough to like really get it together but like it's baby steps and i mean it's fine if it takes a year this is so pretty yeah thank you gorgeous um what made you feel energized or drained this year people i had a really hard time socializing and i married somebody who's an extrovert. It's hard. I will say this. You like, in hindsight, I wish that I had like, express myself to the fullest with Zach. Cause like when you get into a new relationship, everything is fun. It doesn't matter what type of a person you are. It's like fun. It's you're energized and it's like there's an extra um adrenaline that you have yeah but it's like I should have been more clear that you know a year and a half into this I am not the person that wants to do a dinner on
Starting point is 00:31:04 a school night I am not somebody that wants to go spend an entire Saturday watching football with friends or like and so this year I had to like really be stubborn and like kind of a dick to zach and be like i cannot thrive as a human if i am required to be this social and it is not personal like at all it could be my favorite people on the planet and i still cannot spend a ton of time no yeah absolutely it's hard and i wish i'd we had like had that conversation before well and i also think on top of that now in our business we're dealing with so many people on a daily basis that you lived a very, like if you weren't on set before you kind of lived this singular life where like your energy was very internal where you're like, I'm learning
Starting point is 00:31:51 lines and I'm driving myself to an audition and I'm auditioning. Now this year we have so many people swirling around us and we need answers on things all the time that it's like. Never off. Your quota of like human interaction gets filled by like 11 a.m. It's so true. I really felt that for the first time when we were doing Lady Gang TV because I've always worked for myself and that's where I feel like I want to go out and do things because
Starting point is 00:32:10 i'm used to working from home by myself with no human interaction at all so i get my human interaction socially but that was the first time when we're doing that that i'm like i want to go home and talk to nobody and see no one and just be alone which is weird because i've never had that feeling before and people who don't have that they don't they take it personally yeah like it's really hard to show people that don't understand i get what it's like for extroverts Like I see them and I'm like, oh, they're thriving. Like I get it. You need this.
Starting point is 00:32:43 But like they don't often see that like I need that time alone away. They can't understand. Well, it kind of reminds me of trying to trying to explain anxiety to somebody that doesn't that doesn't excite. It's like you just cannot explain it. Yeah. Like anxiety and depression. It's like unless you felt it, you don't know how to explain it or feel it.
Starting point is 00:33:00 What was done to impact your life this year? Yeah. I have mine. well i think that i made a promise myself at the beginning of the year that i would consistently work on my health and i fell off the wagon a lot like i was on it and then i was off it and like i was like drinking diet coke and then i was like off diet coke but for the first time ever i consistently got back on when i fell off so like usually february i'm like i'm gonna go diet coke and February comes around and I'm like, no, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:33:36 And then I just drink Diet Coke from like February until December and it's like a new year resolution. Right. Or like I don't eat a vegetable again for the next 10 months. Right. It's an all or nothing. It's an all or nothing. And this year.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Extremes. I got on and I fell off tons. But every Monday I would like sit there on Sunday and be like, this is the week you're getting back on. And then I would get back on. And like now it's the end of the year and I can say that I was like on more than I was off. That's good.
Starting point is 00:34:02 And I'm proud at like my consistency. You're so proud you keep trying to sneak in your Bujo workout into the book. It's true. It has like the three days that one month. It's true. It was a bad month. And then I had a broken leg and it was like, whatever. But I'm at four workouts in a row.
Starting point is 00:34:16 So, you know what? Good for you. I'm on this week. There you go. I will say as I get older, it's easier for me to do less of the all or nothing. Like I'm actually better at moderation. I'm so not an all or nothing person. You're not?
Starting point is 00:34:28 No. Oh my God. I so am. Right. Like I would be like, it's March this year. Yeah. I was like, I'll worry about it next year. And this year I was like, okay, it's June.
Starting point is 00:34:36 There's still hope. It's like when I was trying to quit smoking. It's like if I, if I could just be like sane about it and just be like, okay, so you got really drunk and you had a cigarette, you're fine, whatever, moving on. And just, no, then it's like, I'm like, give me a pack of cigarettes. Yeah. Like I don't even want them, but I'm such an all or nothing idiot. See, I, yeah, I'm not, I'm always, my hangovers are so bad.
Starting point is 00:35:01 Oh God. So. Oh. I almost gave up drinking this year. Because the hangovers are so bad? I temporarily did, kind of. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Because I honestly can't do it. Stamina. You know what? My hangovers just keep getting worse, and then I just keep drinking. Yeah. That's the cycle. That's the secret. Did you guys have any impact in your life?
Starting point is 00:35:21 Oh, mine's really random, but one of our guests on our podcast, Cindy Eckert, that we met, it was just, she's made an impact on my life because literally following her dog on Instagram has connected me to her has connected me to her fiance who i'm now like working with on things and it's just a very it was like a cool kismet sort of thing in my life and like kind of the mentor and like the connection that i need does her fiance do the sneakers yeah he draws dog's faces on sneakers but he also works with her and then he has his own ship too um but yeah i saw his sneakers they're so cute he's so funny he's like a punk guy yeah that's totally tatted and loves warp tour that's amazing yeah was he like i had a jackpot a neck bracelet no well he's older but i
Starting point is 00:36:05 was like i was writing him about something and i was like i don't know if cindy told you but my boyfriend's in this band he's like i know the main oh no way hello hello it was funny um what was done what did you do this year to impact someone else um i have mine so my other podcast my true crime podcast the first degree so i thought of that like for that question because the premise of that podcast is trying to tell stories that otherwise don't go told and bring awareness to people that are like crying out for somebody to listen to their stories so we've found like a really we've gotten such good feedback from people that just thank us for giving them a platform to talk about something that they've been screaming at police to talk about they've been screaming at
Starting point is 00:36:47 news anywhere media so that's been kind of a cool feeling for us i've done nothing that's not true listen that was a stretch i don't think i uh it's been a very myopic year okay i'm into that you have to have those yeah um this year i bought my brother a truck oh that's nice and it was a big deal because he would never be able to afford a new truck and he lives in edmonton where like the roads are really bad and it's really dangerous to drive in the winter and like you have to have a truck that's dependable and um he like drives it around and washes it and sends me pictures of him washing it all the time and it's like a big huge fancy car where i'm from in canada and any of our fans up north they will understand this is you don't really buy like i didn't see a bmw
Starting point is 00:37:35 till i moved to new york yeah like you just don't buy that kind of car because the salt and the snow like destroyed ruins your car so you're like you just don't have that kind of car so for him to have a really nice car it was like a big deal and i was very proud okay um what do you want to focus on in 2020 i mean i always want to work smarter not harder it's always my motto you don't say really wow that seems so crazy so crazy i know it's so not a jack thing why would i want to do a bunch of busy work if you don't have to it's true why would you oh uh well i kind of made it uh mission to um focus more on the podcast lately like the bookings and just the content the quality of it because i felt like the end of this year things started to take a turn
Starting point is 00:38:26 why was it my fault there was feedback on like places that alex showed us once we said we wanted to like make it pack to not like do eight hours of podcasting in a day yeah you know like the girls noticed that we started to get tired of each other yeah um which happens if you're locked in a room for 10 hours yeah so and i also started being more outspoken about things that i just felt like needed to change and the brand within the brand which i normally would have just been like whatever i don't care oh really yeah i sent an email like a couple weeks she's talking about very specific things like super specific like i felt like we were conquering we were dividing and conquering yes for sake of of not working so hard but it was like a detriment to us like
Starting point is 00:39:13 we kind of have to make group decisions no i get that anytime we split off and we don't like have each other as a sounding board the best decisions don't get made regardless of who's making them it's true yeah so you gotta put the three brains together you gotta yeah well because we all bring something different perspective to it and so yeah we all have to be a part of things kelsey did you answer yours um i'm gonna try to use less plastic oh my god seems weird speaking of i posted a picture on instagram a flashback a straw no with the plastic we were on set of lady gang tv which like we could barely afford toilet paper let alone like recyclable water whatever and i got so much shit on instagram about my once use uh single use plastic on my picture
Starting point is 00:40:05 i'm like enough people i even had a water bottle company message me no we'd love to send you i'm like go yourself oh my god because it's also like tsk tsk yeah yeah that's intense well i do want to let everyone know that here at the lady gang recording office i've replaced all of our i have a single-use plastic in front of me right now we're getting rid of those four more of those i have gotten us all uh recyclable plastic utensils plates cups everything so we are wow and i got a whole bunch of friendly uh glass water bottles of water okay here's my don't talk about the plastic here's what i'm gonna say i'm not gonna say about the ocean i know it's a problem but here's what i'm gonna say about my life in plastic and water bottles water bottles
Starting point is 00:40:53 are grimy and they gross me out when people use the same hydro flask every day at their office and they just continue to fill it up with water the bacteria in that sippy straw thing oh the straw things are sorry it's so gross so if somebody comes up with a really great easy solution to clean a water bottle thoroughly yes my hydro flask that i i got one with it's not the straw that's like attached to the top of it you know what i'm talking about like you don't need a it's like a silicone straw that you can take out and clean itself because that thing that in itself grosses me out too so much so gross it's so gross that is that is the germaphobe it's hard don't worry i got you water and glass bottles one use glass oh one glass i'm down one i love a one class like
Starting point is 00:41:43 a boss. Yes. You're into it. Yeah, of course. I just don't like, I understand. Um, well, my actual other thing I'm going to focus on in the coming year has a lot to do with yours, Becca. Um, Oh, the thing I'm going to trash. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm onto my next question. I didn't realize my notes were out of order. What habits do you want to keep and trash this year? Um, I have a new good habit that I have been making. I used to drink a glass of wine before bed every night like a glass of red wine you know we early in lady gang you came to us with the study of it's going to help you live longer no it was skinny it's it's it said it burns as many calories as going to the gym i don't know if that was true or not i believed it there's no way but
Starting point is 00:42:23 i use every single night i have at least a glass of wine and over the last year i've been smoking more weed so i haven't drank as much wine weed's great so it's a switch of a oh whatever a flip flip-flop yes okay what's you're keeping it i mean she's 2020 she's trashing alcohol keeping weed i'm not trashing alcohol oh well i was gonna say i have something similar when i'm social now i much prefer marijuana to alcohol oh my god i can't imagine going out after i smoked it has to be specific types of weed it has to be like you know not weird like high seeing things it has to be like social weed which they make a lot of still can't do it okay on my keeping i want to keep working out i want to keep cooking at home and i want to keep listening oh my god that's what
Starting point is 00:43:11 i put and then i want to keep showing up for people that's a good one and then oh this is my trash so i'm going to trash this god complex of where like i have to do everything watch me delegate 2020 delegate delegate yeah i'm gonna be like you just go like i just said to alex today she asked me something i go i trust you oh wow i trust you i don't have to be like hey producer where are the cards did you bring them are you bringing them i'm just like that producer knows they're supposed to bring me the no cards when i show up to the end interview they'll have the cards wow wow okay it's putting a lot of faith in people i'm scared you're gonna let down okay uh what do you want to resolve or achieve in 2020 yeah
Starting point is 00:43:58 it's the last question well my well here's the thing is that my goal for 2020 is to be like more submissive to like the things that come so that kind of goes against i'm pretty much lowering my expectations in general with everything and i'm just going to be like not that i'm gonna let things happen to me but i'm not gonna like force things i'm just gonna sort of surrender i'm gonna surrender to what is so i can't really plan ahead that's kind of that's just how i roll that's why i don't really get disappointed that's the thing i found that i was getting so disappointed like it is what it is like if things are out of your control you just have to let them be because focusing on something that's number one in the past or that you can't
Starting point is 00:44:46 that you can't change it's just like it'll kill you yeah okay well uh let you know when i get to my nine piece bujo achievement uh i don't have any achievements uh no i would like to be a new york times best-selling author i did that was the one thing i'm gonna manage that expectation right away i know we're gonna manage it are you guys gonna be okay if it doesn't happen that's what i'm worried again i don't care i am so good at disappointment okay you are you're i get over it really quick yeah but i like to dream big i'm dreaming big yeah okay now last question before it's the end what is your buzzword for 2020 surrender oh mine's present no like when i look out at the sky like today i was walking from lunch and i was like wow air smells great
Starting point is 00:45:38 in la phone in my pocket i put my phone in my pocket and i was like i'm gonna walk from there there and I'm not going to work. I'm just going to smell the air. And I smelt the air and it smelled great. I'm shocked. My word is homeowner. Oh. Are you going to get a house? I would like a house at some point next year. Probably won't happen.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Yeah, well. Well, not with that attitude. I'm just trying to be realistic. Would you buy it with Jared? I'd probably have to. If these two clowns can do it, you can do it. Yeah, for sure. Where? You're not going to be able to afford Venice, babe. You're not going to want Venice. I don't want Venice.
Starting point is 00:46:13 marina i mean marina's so nice okay why are you making a nasty face i know marina is very expensive it's very well that's why i'm not gonna have a water view like you have right now babe i know babe i'm dreaming big kelty okay dream big no i think you're gonna get a home this year you will fingers crossed i'm so excited and we will not invite rsvp to your home party or whatever it is I won't send one out. I definitely won't. All right. Well, listen, Happy New Year, ladies and gentlemen.
