Thank you so much for subscribing on iTunes, and thanks for supporting the great sponsors who make it possible for us to have this much fun with you every single week for free. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin, actress and blogger across from the Kelty Knight. Hey! Entertainment journalist, the coolest of the cool. And to my right, Jack Vanek, the clothing designer and CEO of Jack Vanek. Hi, ladies.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Hey, girl. What's up, girl? Wait, is it no makeup day? Are you wearing makeup? I have eyebrow stuff on. Okay. I usually have no makeup on. I have on a concealer under my black eye that I still have.
Starting point is 00:00:58 i think that's it though that's it right i'm wearing mascara today is that our fun fact of the day that we're not wearing makeup we look terrible right now we look busted i love that you thought i wasn't wearing makeup when i am oh yeah your glasses cover your eyebrows that's true it's true um all right well should we just jump in let's do it i mean we need to we should it's time for good week yes it is bad week oh no who would like to begin i'll start so my good week i don't know if this is really a good week sorry guilty um one of the girls in the lady gang facebook group posted this really awesome post and i love anything that's going to make me like poop regularly so anything i find i'm like this is great have you guys ever been to creation
Starting point is 00:01:46 juice yes place okay so apparently they have this drink called the poop enforcer oh that sounds nice how have i never heard of this and what's in it so it has it's alkaline water senna leaf senna malvia senna is what's in ballerina's tea and and uh smooth move yeah so that's probably what makes it work for sure malva vertus kalata i don't know what that is and lemon anyways i tried it and it works how quickly does it work quickly yeah maybe like an hour oh wow it's pretty fast but it's also not like intense not like taking a laxative that's gonna make you like shit your brains out like five hours later okay it's like that's good but are you so embarrassed when you're like i'll take these five poop enforcers like when you're like don't get paparazzi buying your
Starting point is 00:02:36 poop in la i think that it's just like a known thing that people just they'll do anything to not have food in their body anything yeah it just expel anything so what's your bad week so my bad week so i recently well i recently no well like it's questionable i don't know i'm scared i don't know i might soon in this podcast so i recently moved to venice which is amazing hey girl you live on the west side now i've never visited you i know i'll never see you again except for this podcast i've wanted to live on the west side for literally 10 years and i've never made the move because it just like hasn't been convenient whatever so i made the move i'm so stoked i'm a block away from the beach it's beautiful i can watch the sunset whatever wow but being in venice
Starting point is 00:03:22 it gets a little bit sketchy a lot of it sketchy at night is why i can't live on the west side well santa monica is not sketchy it all is it anything near the beach is like homeless bum yeah yeah so crazy people last night i was sleeping and i get awoken by a questionably homeless guy i don't know if that's not going to be an offensive term to people whatever no he has no home yeah homeless guy having an argument with himself for like three hours outside your window screaming at himself about god knows what kept me up for like three hours then this argument turns into him like projectile vomiting for like another hour i don't know what the hell was happening it was like the loudest most disgusting thing i've ever heard so i really didn't sleep last night i
Starting point is 00:04:10 feel like shit so this morning i'm like i wake up and i'm like oh my god i need coffee and i don't have my cure yet or anything so i have to go walk to the rose cafe to get a coffee best place so i'm like you know walking outside blah blah step right in the vomit again the second time i've stepped and vomit over the past couple years wearing sandals got all over my feet it was disgusting oh look how glamorous that cali life is you're living i know so glad you moved to the west that's why i live so expensive a mile up a hill because homeless people can't get there tired too tired not enough protein i've never seen knock on wood like a crazy crackhead or homeless person like they can't get up there they really can't well i'm so sorry to hear that yeah so i
Starting point is 00:04:51 might still puke on my legs well kelty would you like to go bad week i have a rager and by rager i mean yeast infection yep oh it is itchy it has come on well the other day i was like use kopari down there oh i know that's what i need to do tonight i was like i don't recommend that i was like my vagina is feeling a little burny and then i thought it was because i had like a long experience and i was like oh i'm like long yeah like i'll get a uti or something because yours is like average 45 minutes so what's long for you like three hours tantric so anyway i i just but here's the thing i don't know if it was that or the fact that when i was at work i ate like a bunch of like cokes in a row like so much sugar also that you don't wear underwear a lot of the
Starting point is 00:05:43 I don't know I'm going to use all of your tried and true tricks when I get home tonight right now I'm clenching I have to say the one trick is just the coconut oil stick a tampon in stick it up there I think my vote is Diflucan
Starting point is 00:05:59 I have that but Diflucan didn't work for me well you had a freaking okay here is my good week so I got to hang out with the Backstreet Boys which was amazing And the greatest part about it is that now I have some Backstreet Boys info for everyone that, like, would never be known. I need it.
Starting point is 00:06:20 So, okay. So we all know Kevin is, like, the lazy Backstreet Boy. Like, he doesn't want to be in the group. Well, he left for a while, didn't he? He left. He came back. But it's, like, it's clear that Kevin is, like, a little bit, like, I hate the Backstreet Boys. Yeah, he hates them.
Starting point is 00:06:36 So I'm in rehearsal, and, like, everyone's wearing, like, AJ's wearing, like, cool pants with, like, combat boots, and Nick Carter's, like, in runners, and Howie D's in, like, little Adidas shell toe, which I know you love, Becca. And then I look to, like, all the way on the stage right, and I see tallest Backstreet Boy, Kevin Richardson. And Kevin is so tall, and here's the thing. We have been distracted by his giant eyebrows for so long. No one ever bothered to look down. And so I looked, finally looked down at his feet. kevin was rehearsing in a stripe adidas tearaway pan and a black um square toe dress shoe oh my god wait this was like a week ago yeah oh my god it was amazing right now is he married i think he
Starting point is 00:07:23 is i don't know i think he's kind of hot he was hot until i looked down i don't know he's tall i think that you get blinded by height i know blinded by height and blinded by the eyebrows i never looked at his style i never noticed like was he sporty spice or whatever but like the tearway pant and then the dress shoe was something he's like half sporty half posh i was like god's fair god is that's that's an amazing wait i know we've had this conversation in the past and it was in the very beginning so maybe people didn't not many people heard i really are they still wealthy like are they yes yes okay but like like from what travel on a private jet dude well number one they're probably getting residual shit from the 90s still and then
Starting point is 00:08:06 they just sign this big they make like a million dollars a night on their when they do these tours they're probably the richest they're probably the richer now oh yeah then they were i'm sure because they had a bad deal do you think that could happen for me yes okay well here's mine okay i really i toyed with this a little bit because i wasn't sure how like deep i was gonna to get or like how honest i was going to get because sometimes it's like this is not the place we go for like the real talk right but i felt like it needed to be said long story short actually long story long but it's all in one good week and bad week so it's like you love these recently i feel like if i cut it short it's an injustice to the women listening and i'm sure
Starting point is 00:08:54 your commute is pretty long so you're appreciating my longer good week bad week because most of you this is your favorite section of the podcast anyway um because i'm getting evil daggers from kelty being like keep us on time i just looked at the time she did um okay this is important so as an actress you go through good times and you go through bad times the good me good times meaning you're working it's great it's amazing the bad times are you're not working it's terrible you want to kill yourself you just hope as an actress and that's why my kids will never go into this profession ever ever ever ever um but you just hope that those bad times are short and like usually in my life in my career they've been short well i'm facing a long one right now
Starting point is 00:09:40 bitches it's been a year since i've been on the set of anything even like a dog parade okay so i have i've been having moments and even at 31 years old where i feel like i am like so far out of that mean girl mentality so far out of that like high school jealousy like i still find that when i'm feeling the worst about myself i see other people succeeding and i feel this need to take away from their success yeah or sit and the problem with hollywood is there's a lot of girls out there who are either children of famous people independently very wealthy born looking like aliens they're so attractive or they have sex with people who are really powerful or there's just like the everyday girls like kelsey and i who like have
Starting point is 00:10:33 just been working really really hard hustling people that actually have to work yeah and like it's a small percentage clawing clawing our way to every trying to get every berry off the off the barren bush okay so there's one girl in particular where it's like come up very like a a lot and she's sort of like getting very big and like she's gotten there from not not solely from but she definitely had a relationship with someone very famous and so i have moments of weakness and i'm in the car with my husband and i like make a comment about this said person and he like goes in and we got into a huge fight huge fight because he's like you're being such a hater i don't know i like what is this side of you like blah blah blah blah blah and of course i get super defensive
Starting point is 00:11:25 and i'm like you're my husband and you should be able to like hear me vent and blah blah blah so here's the that's the the crappy part of my week the good part of my week is a i'm with somebody that's gonna call me out and who isn't gonna engage in those conversations also i realized and we realized that men are so stupid that they can't see past the black and white image in front of them so he hears all this like negative talk but really what it is is like ladies this is the message to you if you're feeling insecure if you're having like a really tough time men are never going to respond the way that you want them to unless unless you communicate to them i'm going through a really really tough time i may slip up and i may like
Starting point is 00:12:12 show my flaws and i may show like the green-eyed monster every once in a while but like you just have to deal with it don't like correct my behavior so it was like a learning experience for both of us so that was my good week and bad week and i just feel like as women because i think that like as much as we've tried to not make this like a kumbaya girl power show or as much as i've tried not to make this a kumbaya girl power show i just feel like i'm very much trying to improve that mindset but when it's hard it's really hard and sometimes you just slip up and that's okay yeah and you're valid for feeling that way and it has nothing to do with the person that you're talking smack about it has everything to do with the way you're feeling about yourself but i i will
Starting point is 00:12:54 say i'm pretty freaking sick of girls sleeping with famous people to get famous i agree my publicist one said to me like oh man maybe you should have like a fake relationship with someone so that it would like no like fake cheat on your husband with someone famous because i was like i'm past the point of being able to like date john mayer for three weeks to get famous well that's and that's the sad thing of social media is that that works it totally oh it totally works you can get famous in a second for sleeping with justin bieber or something okay anyway when we come back becca's gonna pee her pants you're listening to the lady gang okay guys our guest today is canadian like me so you know she's ultra cool and nice she's also insanely successful selling over 40 million
Starting point is 00:13:40 records worldwide she won a grammy award a latin grammy award a brit award a juno award and a billboard music award she can play the damn trombone she's got killer style and when we were walking to the car last week talking about upcoming guests on the Lady Gang, she made our own cynic, Becca Tobin, say, I'm going to freak out. She's my fave. Please welcome to the Lady Gang, the OG
Starting point is 00:14:03 man-eater, Nelly Furtado. Welcome, ladies. Becca's officially not freaking out, in case you wondered. I just said, Becca, let me talk about the record before you talk about your love for her, because we don't want to freak her out.
Starting point is 00:14:18 We're going to ease in. we're gonna you know what you can't make it weird we don't have to ease in okay i have to ease in that's not the way we usually do things i from like 2000 2000 on i was like i think that if i were ever going to be a lesbian it would be mella frittata like you had your eye on me there was something i think it was man eater that did it in your video where your dog goes and runs oh yeah i was like she does it for me oh thanks but i'm super straight so don't be like nervous right now she's so nervous Becca's like
Starting point is 00:14:51 there's something about her face your face is amazing your talent is amazing but you have a special face thank you that's so sweet why are you so pretty
Starting point is 00:14:58 on the hall it's bullshit actually you girls are all gorgeous too I'm Canadian and whatever water I was drinking is brown boring basic white girls
Starting point is 00:15:06 yeah we are you know what though I wanted to be you when I was little I was the only ethnic kid in my class and I had funny smelling bean sandwiches
Starting point is 00:15:15 and I just wanted to be blonde and good at sports to be honest but until I realized it's fun to be different and whatever all those nice things which are true but anyway yeah so appreciate your natural blonde locks they're not natural
Starting point is 00:15:27 appreciate that hair dye so you are officially back and I'm so glad because I was wondering where you went so is everyone now people are like where have you been well no here's the thing a lot of people go away and they take a minute and then they never come back they're like actually it's way better to not be
Starting point is 00:15:49 in the hollywood bullshit scene so i know you're back new album one toe in one toe out no and the album is really cool the ride it's out march 31st it's different but it's the same oh thanks man thank you so much lady so how did you get to this sound because it's a little more i don't know how to say it it's like a little more um my first thought is enya but it's not and yet it's more like lana del rey like chain smokers like sort of that like pop that's not pop yeah um yeah for sure i mean i love i actually love pop right now i mean i love what's what's popular because i feel like the genres are becoming increasingly unimportant um and when i started out i was like mixing up all these genres just because i thought why not and at the time it was different
Starting point is 00:16:35 but now you can kind of slide around in a lot of different genres um myself even the approach to the album i'm kind of rather than doing like a big single i'm just kind of doing streaming and songs and kind of experimenting with some different ways of bringing my music to people um especially to add to make things more confusing i sing in english but i also sing in spanish and portuguese so it's like it's hard to keep up with me i think as a fan especially when i go away for a long time when i was away i was doing some stuff that would actually help make my songs better not intentionally um but i went off and went back to school i went back to university and took some playwriting classes I experimented with some you know some handy arts like ceramics and sewing and started
Starting point is 00:17:14 working at my friend's vinyl shop because I really missed being around music you know what happens when you're I think a woman in this business you travel and travel and you get on the horse and I've been doing it 17 years now I just kind of got I became more like a figurehead of my own company than like an artist you know and I missed that girl behind the piano like where did she go and I kind of went had to find her it took a little while but um I love that it was fun though that's pretty cool because a lot of people i mean i think there's probably no one on the planet that didn't want to be you but then when you are actually the person that's there it's different than you think it's going to be like if i just get the record deal and i have number ones and i'm
Starting point is 00:17:49 yeah i'm the ish you know you think it's kind of baby plus marriage equals happiness like a mathematical equation you think it's going to feel different than it does right yeah i think a lot of life is about that a lot of life is about you set these bars you set these goals and then you get there and you kind of have to like take inventory again and go what makes me happy same thing happened after my first album i was like whoa i won a grammy my mom's here with me um and people send me free clubs now what i was like now what do i do i'm 23 or whatever anyway so and then so my second album was much more like what like about the world and my place in it etc etc so honestly i just can't live without writing songs i don't get my i have what i call um
Starting point is 00:18:33 like latent emotionality so if i'm pissed at you you won't even know till tomorrow and you'll and becca will be like why are you mad at me and i'm like remember that thing you said yesterday when we're sitting you'll be like i don't even remember what happened why didn't you tell me when you were angry and i don't know how to access those emotions the way i can in a song you know what i mean so like it songs help me understand myself and honestly i reached a point i went through some tough times like i i actually a long-term business relationship broke up after like almost 20 years and he was kind of like a father figure and we both knew it was time to move on but it was really hard for me because when you make a big paradigm shift in your life lord knows it can be the right
Starting point is 00:19:08 choice but it's scary as hell and you just feel so alone and lost and it takes a lot of inner strength conquering those fears um so basically i had nothing but like music to rely on to kind of get me through it literally so these songs are kind of a product of me needing like a little salve a little bomb on um just some harsh realities like i was on gold carnival games and it's literally about you get on the wheel the ferris wheel right you get on the wheel you eat the cotton candy you buy the prize you get the prizes and then it slips through your fingers and you're like well what is this really worth you know and it's that thing you're talking about like that goal setting goal finding and then reinventing of what what you think your
Starting point is 00:19:46 new goals might be or maybe just that quiet part of your soul that's kind of screaming at you to kind of slow down or or whatever so yeah it's been a journey and a half i just i love i hope to be a grandma in a rocking chair one day and just be like super wise like so much jedi jedi i think you might already be there i think you're the hottest yodi yoda yoda i've ever seen like a hot yoda hot yoda not hot yoga i love i love on your site there's this video that sort of it goes in and out between you talking and then some of the music and some of your ideas and that one's for the
Starting point is 00:20:26 girls oh my god this quote you said someone the girl the lady you were talking to says we can be warriors but we don't have to be warriors 24 hours a day I freaking could not love that more I'm glad you like my teller
Starting point is 00:20:42 Tavi okay so she's my friend Joaquin Johnson's mom it's kind of fun fact she actually sang backgrounds on um super freak super freak no way yeah yeah she toured with um i guess rick james right does that make sense yeah yeah yeah but anyway she's a friend a family friend and um she's on that and so is nicole from hundred waters who's behind like the um form festival and arcosanti like really cool people and so we just kind of got some ladies together we started chatting and i don't know um i don't know i think sometimes people that are kind of around you kind of see
Starting point is 00:21:13 your journey before you do like you know when i got to dallas and recorded the album i immediately got my friend who's a photographer to come join me because I knew some special things were happening and I wanted him
Starting point is 00:21:22 to kind of capture it and that's why we did stuff like that just kind of like let's take the veil off a little bit let's just kind of get real
Starting point is 00:21:28 and yeah in our lady gang we have women of all ages from you know 15 years old to 65 years old really that's so cool
Starting point is 00:21:36 congratulations by the way thank you I think this is the best podcast in the world hey can we quote you on our website
Starting point is 00:21:43 did we tell you did we email that to you last night is that how Colby pitched her podcast and we have women of all shapes and sizes from all over the world and one of the things that you said again in your video was it became so liberating to finally love a photo of myself in a larger size oh my god yeah what a journey you know what happened it was kind of weird
Starting point is 00:22:02 when i went to the playwriting course i remember um i thought that i thought that i was going to write a play about katana valoso my favorite brazilian musician and i did eventually in the second semester start writing about that but in the first one all of a sudden this monologue came out of me and it was all about like body image and food and my relationship with food and etc etc etc um but the thing about the image body image is yeah i got kind of thrust into the spotlight in my early 20s you know and it was like oh my god the first i'm not lying the first time i saw myself on television i was like oh my god i look fat like i'm like oh my god my jeans like my hips are huge you know because nobody tells you the camera adds five pounds yeah and so you know
Starting point is 00:22:38 anybody who's read like you know the beauty man or something like okay there is an extra five pounds that you're not supposed to lose so whatever but you see it and you're 22 and you're like oh my god i look fat i better just eat you know chicken and salad and do my thing and exercise and fine it was it was fine but but at the same time it's like you have to get to a place where you're in the entertainment business and you love yourself no matter what you look like so after a while it was like a rebellion it was like i'm gonna gain some weight because i can and then it got to the point too i truly started loving no matter what i looked like it was very powerful for me it was kind of like yeah if i look fat in this picture and it's amazing you know and i don't give a
Starting point is 00:23:16 shit i'm sorry and i don't use the word fat in a derogatory way i think it's a wonderful word and i think um we just need to embrace i mean it's so cool because i'm working with a stylist right now who he has this thing called um fashion tweak and it's this brand that he's developing and he works with really like really up and coming like he's based in brooklyn he's always pulling all these cool clothes he did a fashion show at art basel and those kids had the most unique body positive multi like body shape type of vibe and i was so inspired i was like this is rad and more and more i see it's kind of changing you know what i mean like i think people's flaws are becoming celebrated and people's kind of like well flaws quote unquote we're just different
Starting point is 00:23:58 it's the what's becoming the thing quote unquote is the confidence right i mean like that's what comes about after a while you know 100 thank god so i don't know thank god i don't know it's been a fun exploration though it's hard that journey's hard too yeah like i've gone from you know like some pretty weird times um in that in that department but uh overall i'm happy where i'm at now because i just have i actually like am happy you know what i mean not that i was miserable before but you know you get caught up in certain things right when you're in the entertainment business it can be difficult there's a lot of pressure it's so hard when you see especially somebody put out a song
Starting point is 00:24:30 like man eater it's like well you don't really look like a man eater anymore that happened to me you look so hot it happened to me I was like
Starting point is 00:24:39 Nelly's unrecognizable oh my god I don't someone said this of course there are whole you know this you have a lady driven
Starting point is 00:24:47 women women's you gain a pound in your unrecognizable yeah or like you ate a grape and you're pregnant yeah
Starting point is 00:24:54 whatever it's insane it's fine it's improving it's improving so let's focus on the positive right now back to the lady gang okay so hollywood heartbreak what's been the moment of your
Starting point is 00:25:07 career that you thought and maybe you actually had one this you might be our first guest ever that actually was like i'm gonna go to school where you thought i didn't get the gig this song didn't go something fell apart and i am out i'm going to hut in costa rica oh yeah get me out of um a couple different times i mean i i've fallen off stage before that's cool i was on tour in new orleans um uh it was one of my first tours and it was the house of blues i think i'd never been in new orleans i still haven't seen it since was there the one time and i was sick i had a flu i was in bed every hour until showtime right because you know show must go on yeah got to the stage had no voice whatsoever was singing a song quiet moment in the show i'm singing i'm like
Starting point is 00:25:54 a bird and i trip over my guitar players um little like monitor amp and i don't just fall off the stage i somersault down seven feet no and i land in between the the the cage that separates the crowd from from the stage and i had a mark on my back a bruise from the fence and then the the microphone just goes and then i pick it up but i'm like it can only get better from here folks and like my band thought i died i mean that's a funny moment right but yeah there's been other times where yeah you're just kind of like wow this sucks maybe i should i mean that happens to me every time i make an album it's hard right you're like creating creating and then you have to put it out in the world and you're like totally we feel like that every week when we put the podcast you
Starting point is 00:26:38 know what i mean we'll leave here and we'll be like that was a really great episode and then Monday night before a new episode, we're like, I don't know, was it good? Did we screw it up? Or have you ever read a bad review by accident? I don't like to read reviews. Or bad ones, obviously, because it's like, I'm so sensitive. But yeah, it's hard. We've got some skating reviews.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Yes, we have. What is your ish moment? What's your ish moment? The moment where you thought, I am the jam. No one can touch me. I'm the hottest in the land right now. You know what? I've one time practiced really hard for this one performance.
Starting point is 00:27:11 and it was um the winter olympics opening ceremonies in vancouver no big deal no big deal there's like audience of one billion yeah and i damn i'm from bc i'm from british columbia so it was cool like my parents are from victoria so i'm there and i'm rehearsing and i perform with brian adams who's like this canadian icon and we had a special song for it and i rehearsed to the point where i was waking up in the middle of the night singing the song and i was like okay now calm down i think you've rehearsed and i was wearing a really beautiful bright blue um d squared outfit because they outfitted all the singers for the opener. And I remember
Starting point is 00:27:44 some of my family was in the crowd and my daughter and it was beautiful. It looked like ice, the whole stage. And I... I nailed it. Yes! Yes, you did! Everyone's Googling that currently. Right now. All the girls are watching right now. She nailed it.
Starting point is 00:28:00 And the shoes they made for the show for me were studded, open toe, a knot line. I never wear shoes this big. They were this tall. they were six inch oh my god you didn't trip you're like giselle at the last olympics when she did just like walking across the field for like 10 minutes i was like what am i watching right now why do we need this this is not a sport she's just walking my dad was so enraged by that
Starting point is 00:28:25 i didn't even speak at the end she just walked in a gown for a bit they just filmed her walking she just walked across the arena because she's like youtube that yes she's like brazil's crown jewel that is so odd yeah i mean listen though the heels though i i feel like the stakes are high i feel like totally oh yeah it's true one time i decided to wear like a gown at the last minute for a performance that i had to really really run around for and i feel like don't you feel like when you're on edge it's good when there's risk involved you bring out your a-game yeah like a bullfighter i'm gonna die i'm gonna fall on these six inches true prevail under pressure it's kind of weird
Starting point is 00:29:03 you did it works for me speaking of fashion yeah I found the old 2002 Vanity Fair like hot young thing
Starting point is 00:29:12 cover oh and it was like all those people it was crazy it was get this so it's
Starting point is 00:29:17 there's a ton of people there's like 10 people on the cover it's young Alicia Keys young Gwen Stefani young JLo so I want you to tell us like a story
Starting point is 00:29:27 about the coming up because now all these women like y'all so untouchable it's like you know but like
Starting point is 00:29:32 what was it like on that set when it was like that's crazy hello I'm Jennifer and you're like you are what's your last name
Starting point is 00:29:39 like you had no idea Gwen what that was Stephanie Stephanie Gwen Stephanie that was super cool Debbie Harry was there too
Starting point is 00:29:48 and so was Barry White actually he was on the end and then so was Shirley from Garbage yeah I remember that I love her but yeah everybody
Starting point is 00:29:57 actually we had to wait for J-Lo cause she was even back then yeah no no I love J-Lo i've met her a few times she's very sweet and genuine but like at the time i guess she had
Starting point is 00:30:06 shooting a lot of things because i think we had to wait a few hours but um gwen i mean gwen was precious because gwen and um so i work with sophie muller a lot back in the day and she's like best friends with gwen so gwen like literally said she was gonna come visit and say hi at my video shoot and she showed up what and i was just this person starting out so i thought that was really really cool of her I bit her style she probably she had a Becca on you
Starting point is 00:30:35 yeah maybe but I copied her though get this so she sees me outside I played a gig at Universal Amphitheater with a bunch of artists
Starting point is 00:30:43 for a radio show I see her outside and it's the first time I saw a Juicy Couture terrycloth sweatshirt and she had it in orange
Starting point is 00:30:50 of course I totally bit her style I was like in orange too Sophie I would like to wear an orange Juicy Couture
Starting point is 00:30:58 sweatshirt and turn off the light video yeah like shameless you're like wait you wore that in your video i wore it in the video that she visited me on that's amazing that's incredible so weird we're twins look at us in our fashion so we should be best friends now that is amazing just single white female here's my thing though about this cover so it's one of those like that i have the tiger i love you and i'm gonna steal your stuff um i do
Starting point is 00:31:26 tobacco like every day of my life i literally like i'm going to buy mules because she wore them last week anyway okay so on the vanity fair cover here's my real question and i've never been able to ask anyone in hollywood about why i'm wearing that so it no it's a it's a fold-out cover so you know how vanity fair does like how do you know people do you know where you're gonna be so pissed if you're when you were in the fold no she wasn't in that she was in the next page so like when it's on the stands you don't see it talk about an iconic cover no she was on are you so i mean you're still way better than us i never expected to be on the cover that's for sure not when j-lo and do you care when you're on the fold out are you like damn it you're so funny
Starting point is 00:32:06 um no because i'm not i'm i'm a fold out kind of artist i was gonna say i don't know you are not that is not true but that's amazing that is amazing you're like i know my place in life that's amazing i appreciate you in a way that becca just fell more in love with you we're gonna say that from now on whenever anyone's like we just got rated like an article came out like the top 15 girl podcast and we were number two we're a fold-out kind of podcast we're always the fold-out that's okay at least we're in there i mean damn yes you were all right all right guys uh if you haven't noticed someone our guest today clearly has their life figured out in like a wise yoda kind of way when we come back she's
Starting point is 00:32:58 gonna help you figure out your lives yeah hey ladies funky ask the lady gang and we're back before we start ask the lady gang if you guys want 20 off jackmanic.com use code lady gang and get some sassy things i do so well i'll give angela a bunch of stuff for you i have sassy t-shirts that you can wear um so for this part of the podcast we have our listeners writing their questions and we try to give them decent advice okay and you're so wise that i don't even think we need to be here advice she gives yes yes oh my goodness our first question comes from britney britney says i'm 25 and have been with my boyfriend for almost seven years all of our friends are getting engaged and married and we are very comfortable in our relationship and don't
Starting point is 00:33:46 want to get married until we're probably around 30 but have been pressured with our friends to get married soon how do you deal with the pressure from friends and family um it's britney yes um britney i think the real reason you're writing the letter is because you actually also want to get married so i think that if you were truly feeling comfortable with the relationship and truly feeling like you're both comfortable with it and that you are indeed getting married one day i think you probably wouldn't be writing the letter yeah and i think that you wouldn't the the comments of your friends and family wouldn't bother you so much um that said you might need to maybe expand your peer group a little bit and maybe if you're getting negativity
Starting point is 00:34:30 or it's encroaching in that territory to maybe like consider maybe hanging out with some other friends who may be single or maybe in similar situations or right um i don't know probably taking a little bit of break although i know it's difficult when you have to attend a bunch of weddings again if you're feeling maybe it's time to like reassess the relationship i have two sides to this i think 30 is a great age to get married really any younger scares me but everybody has their own timeline you know you might be where i was at 30 you might be there already at 25 um however i don't think there's anything wrong with waiting like what's the big rush it's all the same after i got married it was like the same relationship we just had like you know fancy rings
Starting point is 00:35:15 but then i also have this theory about people who stay together past a certain like like you're at seven years now and you're saying you want to go another five there's something that happens with my all of my girlfriends who have been in like very very very long-term relationships and she's a teenager yeah and it's like you almost surpass the point of like where it makes sense to get married and then you get to this place where you're like we've gone so long without getting married let's just not get married and a lot of the time the girls that i know that are in that position get very hurt and heartbroken because the men are sort of like well if we haven't done it yet like there's something wrong and there's it's a sign so i think it's just like i don't
Starting point is 00:36:01 know yeah that's a common story yeah i think people need to shut the f up well is there anything more annoying than like you start dating someone when are you guys gonna get married and then you get married when are you guys gonna have a baby honestly i get asked when i'm gonna have a child 75 times a day i will let y'all know you'll see it's so annoying people shut up yeah people need to shut up talk about the lady gang podcast or whatever you saw on us weekly like find better things to talk about it's so annoying i have to say well this is funny so i went out with to dinner with my friend britney last night and we were talking about this exact same thing i'm like did you write this question in because we had this hour-long conversation about this that
Starting point is 00:36:40 she's 25 she wants to wait till she gets married to like 30 her boyfriend and her are sharing like a studio apartment they both have like she's gonna be a lawyer he's works in legal stuff so they're on their way to like really great lives but right now they can't like afford the best ring or whatever and he wants to provide to her in like these awesome ways so I mean if it's kind of you're waiting just to be in like the right stage of your life maybe people bugger because they've been together
Starting point is 00:37:05 so long yeah for sure you guys have been together forever I think you should also actually maybe break up and like go have sex with like five other people and then get back together and then marry the guy you haven't lived enough we've given a sport of advice Brittany choose your own adventure
Starting point is 00:37:21 I hate to tell you this now but this is normally how it goes it starts off good with our guests and then we rip it apart okay okay our second question comes from estelle oh but best of luck though no she'll be fine estelle says i'm 17 and genuinely and i'm only attracted to men 30 years and older and it's been like this she's 17 yeah oh it's been like this since i had a crush on a teacher when i was in the eighth grade and he was 31 now i have a major crush on a family friend who i babysit for who's married and is 39 i never liked guys remotely near my age and i was wondering if you ladies could offer some advice on how to deal with this problem because it's obviously illegal what's her name estelle estelle 17 17 likes men
Starting point is 00:38:07 30 years and over i don't know there's some legal stuff going on well first of all it's illegal so So allegedly, what's happening? I will say this. Estelle, my grandmother was, like, 30 years younger than my grandfather or, like, 25. And so when he was, like, 85, she was, like, a cute 60 and, like, really wanted to, like, live her best life. And he was, like, old and she was changing his diapers. So whenever you, like, feel like you want to date a 30-year-old, just remember, like, he's going to have gross testicles in, like, about five years. He's going to start getting sciatica in, like, three years.
Starting point is 00:38:43 like not that fun in like a minute so i think it's cool to like an older guy and i definitely think that men mature way later and so to find someone probably on the same level as you you might need to age up but this aging up is like a little excessive i would say maybe try going like five years older than you like date a guy that's like 23 i wonder why she's not interested in people her age her age are dumb well also maybe she's mature she said that it was ever since eighth grade when she had a hot teacher so she probably had a crush on a teacher yeah everyone has a crush you probably had sex with the teacher didn't you he tried what while you were in school oh yeah oh there was one that tried and i didn't mind that because he was really cute and he wasn't
Starting point is 00:39:23 very creepy but then there was one who wrote me a love letter yeah that's weird he was in high school he was a real creep mr felice i'm gonna get sued allegedly he's probably in jail because i'm sure he's done it to other people he eventually got fired also um that's rough mess around with a married man oh yeah don't be but he might not be married she says she babysits no no that's that's a family friend yeah you have to be really cautious for sure yeah you should be careful and really think it out think it out watch the movie gone girl that's all i have to say about that this is literally like your life is gone girl go watch it it does not end well and also like if you end up being involved with one of these guys they're gonna go to jail and then
Starting point is 00:40:04 will have nobody yeah well she's like she'll be 18 soon you know and then you know what that doesn't help her she's just 17 right now yoda it's illegal you're like wait well that's what i mean do all this and then what would you tell your daughter no nobody wants nobody wants their daughter dating somebody way older than them um yeah i mean i don't want i don't want her to break the law or encourage them to break the law um okay next question our last question sorry it's from anonymous i'm like can i get sued doing this thing with you guys we haven't been sued yet somehow somehow yeah all right our last question oh my god sorry i felt like a dog bit my leg our last question is from no name anonymous anonymous uh she says recently i became a mom
Starting point is 00:40:54 my daughter is five months old i was terrified when i found out i was having a girl because our family has a long line of mothers and daughters not getting along i'm hell-bent on having a beautiful relationship with my daughter but i feel like i need to start with my mom and fix the issues that we have any advice on how to bring up issues with your mom in a way where it won't fall on deaf ears or where she won't get immediately defensive about what i say oh that's hard how old is she i don't know oh um she's pregnant five months pregnant no she has a five-month-old daughter that's nice wait can someone else go first i'll go first okay you go first the fact that you're aware of like the strained female and female relationships in
Starting point is 00:41:37 your family and you're hell-bent on making a beautiful relationship that already is more than enough yeah because most people it's like a vicious cycle when you don't even realize and acknowledge that it's a cycle so number one don't get paranoid about that and number two i think that like yes i think that it would be nice to start trying to fix things with your mother it's not the easiest thing in the world i mean my mom and i are very different people and so we've gone through phases of where she just totally doesn't understand me and i don't want to hear anything from her and vice versa um but i don't know how old you are it was later in life that i saw like my sister be a mother and i'm sure i'm going to feel this way when i'm a mother like i
Starting point is 00:42:25 had so much more appreciation for my mother and what she did so maybe just look at that like I don't know I think sometimes you have to decide when things like this happen with family and friends like do you want to be right or do you want things to be okay and sometimes you can't have both like if you want to stick her to every single thing she's ever done and you want her to realize and apologize and all those things that might not be a reality for you but if you're willing to sort of like let go of a lot of those things you've been holding onto and start fresh, then maybe there's hope there. Yeah. I think a lot of it has to do with just probably forgiveness on both ends. And also I wouldn't base what you think your relationships would be with your
Starting point is 00:43:06 daughter on if you can mend your relationship with your mom, because they're two completely different things. And if that doesn't like go successfully for you, it doesn't mean that your relationship with your daughter is going to be doomed. And now the only mother in the room will give advice awesome no none of your mothers yet okay if ever but like um hi it's me i'm still here okay i would like to know her name again i don't it's anonymous she didn't write her name oh hi anonymous congratulations on your beautiful five-month-old daughter um yeah women okay i got a lot of strong women in my family really great uh role models um i'm sure there's strength in your family too so all those women that are bickering away at each other and have issues
Starting point is 00:43:47 um i don't know i think a lot of that stuff goes way back and it can be cyclical it's admirable that you want to break the cycle um again i agree that you know it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have a strained relationship with your daughter you know it's a completely different relationship um and i think eventually things always change you know so you and your mom i bet you through you know if you maybe try involving her try to make her feel um a part of the experience of raising your daughter and make grandma important you know what i mean and set your boundaries though and try to make it healthy and i think um you and her will become see each other more as peers and friends and from that will uh um great things will flourish i think naturally
Starting point is 00:44:30 so wise so wise so damn wise um if you want more of that wisdom you guys have to check out nelly's new record the ride it's out march 31st but you can hear some of the songs online right now if you want to go yeah and you can also go check out this video if you haven't checked it out that we're talking about on her website and also where can we you're new to the instagrams yeah i only started doing it a few months ago what do you think so far a friend was doing it like more like a gallery before um yeah um it's fun i don't know it's kind of weird and people say mean things people do but the lady gang is gonna change that every single member of the lady gang go follow nelly right now and it's just your name right yeah it's just that nelly furtado yeah i
Starting point is 00:45:14 just kind of nobody took that name before you yeah that's crazy that there is well that's why i started an instagram someone had a fake one and they're like the old instagram was like we can't take it down the only way you can take it down is if you start your own verified account we're like okay fine i'll start one i think it's very cute and then a placeholder for a while and then i just kind of started doing started it's very good everyone please go follow it because yeah it's Good. I like seeing all your makeups. I don't see anything.
Starting point is 00:45:38 The beautiful makeup. Okay, well, that's not how you get people to follow. If you want to take a lesson from me, you just ask people. Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
