you got hammered your dad's face was like but he's hot and he can but he can talk like i don't know

Our guest today is a newly married superstar podcaster who's dominating the charts and breaking news every single week with his beloved take on all things dating, relationships, and reality TV.
A man of a zillion talents, he gave us shirtless hunk-o-drunk on The Bachelor, booty boogie on Dancing with the Stars, a voice for podcasting on The New Mess Singer, and some excellent man tears on Special Forces.
He's got a brand new baby, a brand new life, and we offered to shield him from diaper changes
for one hour at my house in Sherman Oaks.
Please welcome back to the podcast, Nick Vile.
The only one with my PR.
Honestly, your PR team is on it.
Okay.
Well, they're great.
Yes.
They're great.
And they're the same people we use.
You're just so infusive.
I love the energy.
You do a great job.
Okay.
Let's do Good Week, Bad Week first.
All right.
It's time for...
Good Week.
Yes, it is.
Bad Week.
Oh, no.
I'll start.
Okay.
Okay, so I was recently, as you guys know, in Lisbon with Chris for work.
And Lisbon was, it wasn't the best.
I mean, listen, the trip was amazing, and I'm hashtag blessed that I got to go all the way to Europe to see my husband.
Cost a ton of money.
He was basically working the whole time.
Wasn't, like, the sexy vacation.
Like, I packed a whole outfit.
You know me.
Sex outfit.
I was a full fantasy.
I didn't even wear it.
It's back home, tags on.
Like, it was just, the sex pocket was closed.
like it was just so disappointing in that area and he's gonna kill me but anyway what i did see
is there's a viral store in lisbon it only exists in lisbon and they make sexy waffles
so basically the waffles are shaped like a vulva and then the sauce is like right in the middle
and then they also do a waffle press that is penis shaped on a stick and you can like
dip your waffle that's your penis waffle in the syrup and then delicious so anyway
sexy waffles exist positive in lisbon what i know and also i'm like why didn't we think of that like
we're like i know all these other people that we you know i just saw the foster sisters and their
brand favorite daughters with 50 million dollars i'm like what have we done billions of dollars
i'm like what have we done we could have invented sexy waffles we have we have squandered our
opportunities because it's now it's too late now we're never too late no nick has to do it well
I'll do the work for you. Okay. So my bad week is that, um, I'm so excited to tell you this story.
So Nick, you, you've been in Hollywood long enough now, and I know you've auditioned for a lot of
like acting stuff too. So you understand what it's like to audition and how difficult it is to get a
gig. Like we make it look easy here. Cause we're so successful. I don't know if I'm making it look
super easy, but okay. But it is so difficult. And so I don't think everyone, anyone's been,
wow look at nick act he makes it look effortless in your defense no one's been like wow look at
beck act because they can't see it they can't find it it's gone okay so i i received a tip
from uh someone close to me that they were doing a new commercial for an artist that they knew
and the commercial is basically a red carpet commercial where there's a red carpet reporter
that's actor swan and there's the star and that's the whole commercial and all the a red carpet
girl has to do is say who are you wearing and i was like wait a second guys i think i've got this
like i've nailed this and so we get the rundown for that part and it's like an e-news type host
and i was like wait a second my how about an actual e-news host so you husband husband's like
wait I can actually give you the the host of e-news and they were like oh my god this is amazing so
I wasn't booked but I felt like I've got this like husband's in the door I'm gonna be in a
national commercial playing myself this is dope like I'm a star like here we go in my like fame
era and then I'm on the plane and I see Chris and he's watching like green screen auditions like
you know how sometimes you have to do auditions yeah and I was like who's that and he's like oh
that's, that's the girl that's auditioning for the red carpet reporter. I was like, she's not
even holding her microphone in the right hand. Everyone knows you would never take the microphone
and cross body to a star. You have to keep the open. It's open, open the window. You know what
I mean? You don't cross body. That's like, that's how you can tell someone has never been on TV
before. If they hold the mic and they cross their own shoulder, then you just get this. You want to
open. Okay. All right. Anyway. So I'm like, she didn't even hold a microphone. So then long story
short i cannot even book playing myself but why commercial first of all i don't i don't like as
an insecure actress who wants to know the moment anything happens like i want to know if someone
in this town whispered my name right but somehow your team is like she'll find out or she won't
sometimes i've found out before that like i was basically asked the availability that everything
was in motion for some job in my mind I had heard nothing of it so I'm like it's dead it never was
even close and then the team will be like no it was actually totally in in contention you just
didn't end up and so for Chris to not understand the insecurity I needed a update every five
minutes got a link to that woman's audition he should have been like Kelty there are other people
up for this job yeah or and he was really upset to be honest like he was very upset because I
after I found out I didn't book it, I was really mean about it. You know how I get,
um, I was very like, I was telling people and then I was like, Oh my God, this is the greatest
rejection story of my life. And then I went to this Marshall's thing and I told it on stage and
I was like, I can't even book me. And he was like, Kelty, this is why he literally looked at me. He's
like, this is why I can't be your manager. He's like, because nothing's enough for you. He's like,
you would never be happy. He's like, all my clients are like, nothing's ever enough. And
he's like and you're always like tell them it's enough you work and I'm like he's like we would
get it's true it would be it would be a horrible yeah it would be but I'm so mad I really wanted
to play myself in a commercial okay you have other things um my bad week is uh baby related
because as a new dad you you know things are it's up and down right so I always said the only thing
I know about myself before having a baby is that I will be ruthless at bedtime. Like we are going
to sleep train. I don't want that baby in my bed ever. I have too many friends with kids that are
now seven that are still in the bed. And my friends are like, if I can tell you one thing,
my marriage is hanging on by a thread because this seven year old is still in my bed. So I was like,
Zach and I were both very committed. Right. And I also was committed to not being the mom that
lingers in the bedroom. Like after bedtime, I don't want to sing you eight songs and eight books
and tell you stories and all the things we have done so well. Ford is two years and some months,
three months. I don't know. And we have crushed, we have crushed bedtime. Cause I'm like, I can
deal with anything during the day, whatever you have to throw at me. But if I'm not sleeping,
I'm a horrible, horrible person. If I don't know that I'm shutting your door at seven 30 at night,
And then I have the freedom of the night.
I, now that he's aware and he's manipulative and he's a toddler, I have found myself reading
17 books.
I am giving him an hour and a half concert at night, rubbing his back, holding his hand.
The other night, Zach looked at the monitor and I am laying next to the crib like this
with my hand holding his.
and every three minutes when i think he's dozed off i'll like go to move my hand away and he
grabs and he knows how to fuck me so bad he'll grab my hand and then he'll put it on his face
and i'm like i will die here i will die here like it doesn't matter there could be a fire in the
home i am not like letting go of your hand so i am and it's only getting more extravagant every
night it's like this crazy romantic evening with my son and Zach's like you're so get out of town
so now I'm here and I'm hoping I'm hoping to like reset the the neurons in his brain but I don't
think so because the moment he sees me he's like I got your number it is crazy because Becca is our
resident I we made you the hard ass of late again you're not a hard ass no but she's very soft but
when you see this child around her she's like you know it's like crazy it's the worst it was it's
the it's the worst and the best so that's my bad week is that now i'm totally screwed i can't make
dinner plans i can't have anyone else put my kid to bed now that was another part of it i was like
i want the freedom to just know i can make a dinner reservation every night of my life and
know that like anybody else can put my kid down and i can just whatever nope no um my good week
is i watched the anne hathaway rom-com it's so good have you seen it nicholas gallistine the
other nick i saw the beginning do you not love love i don't know i don't know this for me okay
well here's the thing i think i do love the fake harry styles he was incredible he was such a good
at the first like eight counts of that performance i was like do you think it was because it was i
mean you guys are kind of the target demo of course right like oh lady yeah not old but like
past like your like club club days yes yeah you know having a kid we don't want to go to
we thought the dream was dead like that's what it is you thought a part of yourself
is dead is dead like do you remember being flirted with no i you know right i miss it
but men still get flirted with even when you're married and you have kids
i don't go out and i you know i'm around my i mean i'm kidding when i say that but like also
not entirely being becoming a public figure almost like it ruins it too it ruins it too
because you don't know you just assume people are looking at you because they notice you which
is a little narcissistic to begin with but then like you know before when you were just like an
absolute nobody you're just like i got it yeah i got it now it's just like it's now i'm just like
oh my god why are you staring at me yeah um am i picking my nose yeah you're like are you filming
your demographic from like your fame is also the same women that would have been hitting on you at
a bar so like no man knows who i am so i can still that's a nice thing is that like i can still go to
a bar i mean listen no one's looking and no one's hitting on me but i if it does happen i'm like oh
it's because he's attracted to me it's not because he watched glee unless he's a homosexual yeah but
like that would be hard for you because it's like young women and they're staring and they're
staring at you you really can't decipher you're not safe i love that it's been like it's been
10 years since i i've like gone to a bar and no one no one i was getting hit on like
unless jack was like jack was here that's you know what honestly you need to come back when
jack's here so you can have that real pump up you know i think i'm all right wait i miss jack
love jack that that movie is for for people who haven't watched it it's ann hathaway she plays a
40 year old mom of a teenager and then she falls in love with this pop star it's like harry styles
and um and it's like i wanted to mock it so badly i wanted to hate it so much the way that i hated
other rom-coms that have been really popular lately that i've just been like oh maybe it's
not my genre anymore this yeah first of all anne hathaway's never looked better she looked
everything about it incredible and i'm like wow there's her i get it and then with him i'm sorry
but i was like absolutely but i feel that way about harry styles too like i love her so he's
so hot and he was like charismatic and all the things and i just thought this is the part of me
that i thought was dead and like the desiring of a young boy and then to see that that little
seedling is still there and if you just water it a little bit like it can i felt alive in a way
that i have not felt in such a long time for a long time get out yeah yeah no mom's got a party
you guys gotta plan a girl's trip but it doesn't happen when you party like it's like i know i know
what made the movie so good was that no one could understand him the way she could yeah because she
had the maturity because she had the maturity do you know what i mean and he couldn't find
that happiness in anyone else because no one so it's like yeah but i got wrinkles but i understand
but also nick you and this guy this fictional character and harry styles you have quite the
opposite taste not taste but like your wife is young much younger than you yeah and he was
like could you imagine if you for for whatever reason were no longer married to natalie
and then your next person that you had sex with was like twice her age you'd be like i didn't
know skin could feel like i didn't know that your asses could fall like this i didn't know
you could hold things under your tits like when you're not wearing a bra you would be so it would
be it would be darwin like it would be like whoa do you think you could even feel this new species
of human you would you'd be like oh my god look at her elbow like what i didn't know elbows got
old shit you can pinch elbow and it can stay there the elbow is the worst because you can't
do anything to the elbows the weenus i had a huge meeting this was 10 years ago with one of some
huge executive at dreamworks like the decision maker right and at the time i was probably 27
yeah i was old 27 was ancient at the time and i remember sitting there and he was a very nice guy
and he was funny and he was like yeah you know with women now it's hard to tell probably such
an inappropriate conversation now in hindsight he was like but the way that i know how old a woman
is is i look at her elbows so i have never worn a tank top again i know i will never show my elbows
no and after you do a spray tan yeah it's even worse it's even worse because the spray tan like
holds on to that like drier skin yeah may i just say i've known you ladies for a long time yeah
we look great i haven't aged a day that's why you get serious you look great thank you fantastic
we're also can't say that about a lot of people you run into people you haven't seen them a few
years you're like oh oh god that's i think it's because we stop with our faces yeah we don't
inject a whole lot yeah yeah just okay nick good week bad week i feel like my my bad week was that
movie i can only share like it was i was i was crushed last night i got some information that
was really quite heartbreaking it was kind of a stab in the back situation i was aware of some
of their things they were struggling with and like this was also the type of person you really
like struggled getting feedback they were a bit of a perfectionist um and they just did a thing
where it was just like what the were you thinking and i don't know if it was nefarious or just
sloppiness but like they're dead to me yeah is that how you how nick and i are the same do you
confront the person or you just cut them out and let them figure it out like it depends i probably
this particular person i will just cut them off and let them figure it out you know what i had a
similar situation a couple years ago and I went full petty and then I regretted it later because
I was like you know what Kelsey you're better than being this petty but I'm the same way I'm
very loyal and like if I've given you my time energy mentored you been a part of your life
like have shown up for you and you have did something to me or you didn't show up for me
I that is probably my anger center of all time I don't even need you to show up for me oh but if
you me over yeah if you do something where it was just like you clearly weren't considering how this
could affect other people right not even yeah well sure it's not even just me in this situation but
um i will like yeah so like usually i'm gonna get really frustrated i you know you have you
all these emotional thoughts like oh i want to get back at them or you want to confront them
usually i'll let that pass yeah um because you know usually your your reactive ideas are never
really best ones um i will say this but if i if i um if i do in enact revenge i suppose uh you
won't know it's coming from me but here here's what i'm gonna say i am more of a wishy-washy
i always play the long game which is totally you too i am more you won't know i'm but someone will
call me a year later and be like hey we're thinking about this person for this position
what do you think and i'll be like don't do it can't trust her yeah i've yeah i've stopped a
lot of people from getting jobs can i give you offer you another perspective on this
people are sloppy and people are imperfect yeah i think this is a lot of sloppiness too
but this particular person like i would have like i would like in my mind i was like
whatever you need like whether you're in my life or not like you know i'll i'm here to help but
Now it's like, now you're dead to me.
And now, like you said, I mean, I'm not going to make it my mission, but like, you know,
I've made some phone calls already.
Could you say to this person, like, I just want you to know that you've confided in me
a lot and like these issues in your life with friendships, with this, that, and the other.
And like, I don't want you in my life, but like this, you did this thing and this is
why you're struggling with your relationships.
I kind of want to do that.
And I thought about that last night because, but right now, if I said it, it would come
across as mean.
It's like, do you know why you have a hard time keeping friends?
Because, well, you're toxic, you know, like this person doesn't realize how toxic they
are, but they're an energy sucker.
But I would want to know if I was being that person.
This person, they're like, they're a professional victim.
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
So it's like no amount of awareness.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But this person is struggling so much with a lot of their personal aspects of their life.
they just can't get out of their own way and like I've recommended books and like books out of like
it's like books that have helped me or things like that and a lot of you know a lot of struggles I
see with people you know I may not be able to like I totally identify but like there's aspects of it
where I could and it's just amazing how when people kind of martyr themselves um and uh yeah
it's it's it's disappointing it was a real bummer it was a real it was a real bummer last night it
affected how i slept um and i'm sorry i couldn't be more detailed no it's okay my high is we started
sleep training two nights ago oh and our daughter is a rock star we were like see no she well yeah
who knows it might it might don't get up when she's two yeah we'll see so like i'm definitely
you know we love our daughter you know it was like before she was born you know now i kind of
joked around like which role are we gonna play and i was like you're gonna be the softy and like
obviously I am the softy to a certain extent.
But Natalie is very like deeply in love, you know, and it's, you know,
and I, I'm sure you can relate, but like when River cries,
like I think Natalie feels things that I don't, you know,
like it's in her body, you know?
And so like, it's easier for me to be like, just, it's okay.
You know, and River's been so good that like, I had to remind, I'm like,
i had to remind natalie's natalie that sometimes babies cry yeah you know it's the only way they
because she's been so good that she's like well what do we do i'm like well to me she hasn't
really been upset for days yeah like i think this is okay um and she's like yeah you're right okay
okay um but uh how old is she four and a half months oh yeah um and so time yeah it's right
around the time and you know the time i took becca on tour last time we were imagine oh my god
yeah oops i didn't carry that baby so i didn't have those hormones coursing through me do you
do you have a surrogate i had a surrogate that's i'm so fascinated it was great so fascinated but
i hear stuff like this sorry to interrupt your story but like i hear stuff like this and i'm
like i said on that tour i was like i'm able to have a like be a first-time parent like a dad
because i didn't have those like pulls to get me back to the baby so i was like this is what men
get to experience it's amazing like you still love the thing and you still care about the thing
you're not a sociopath but you can still like go and live your life and not feel this like
it's an extension yeah like i cannot imagine i don't know how women do it so i was really
lucky that and when he cried i didn't really give a shit either i mean i give a shit but i'm like i
know she's gonna be fine yeah you have a rationale to know that like she's just hormonally like this
is the thing i'm meant to protect yeah and so uh yeah river is she's been sleeping in our room
and it's we love it and she's you know we hear cool it's great and it was just like you know
selfishly um we just love being next to her yeah but it's been kind of a bit of a like sex killer
yeah it's like it's definitely a cock walk for sure um and it's just like uh like we love our
daughter but we've we've ran into a lot of young parents recently and a lot of them are like sleep
train sleep night train sleep train i was like suggesting it to nally maybe we do she's like i
don't know like i just want to yeah and then there's so many just kind of alternative like
parenting strategies like which is basically like just like don't ever detach from your kid ever
oh yeah it's bullshit uh which is like nuts um anyways so she uh river had a a doctor's
appointment uh on monday and we recently like ran into some like uh young parents who were like
really got it sleep train we're like you'll take our word for it and we're like okay like these
people are very passionate about this yeah maybe we should ask some questions and our doctor gave
us some you know tips where it was like a lot of parents will just throw them in a room and let
them cry it out we're like i don't know if we're in i'm like i was i'm like you i'll get you a hotel
yeah yeah i'll natalie can't do it i'll do this and she's like that i don't want to do this but
then our pediatrician was like that's unnecessary like you can like you can stage it out and he was
basically like all right and at this point we had this we have this nursery we have this beautiful
crib but it was more like a an aesthetic she had never been in the crib um in her nursery and so
he's like we'll just like have her start napping in the crib and like kind of like slowly acclimate
to the room and then when you start sleep training um she'll like wake up let her cry it out for five
minutes but then go back soothe her so she knows that mom and dad will you know come back and then
you know the next time 10 minutes 15 minutes just kind of like like oh we could that's we can do
that so like that night we're like i don't know like let's let's just see what happens she went
to bed in her crib and like woke up at 7 a.m shut up and we're like our daughter is she's
amazing and then we're like maybe this is like one good night we're on our third night and she just
like sleeps so really that person that you over because you would have slept like a baby last
night had it not been for this person who you ever truly yeah i still slept okay but um and
honestly it was like nice to like you know huddle with my wife and like connect and it really like
and i was thinking about a couple weeks ago i was just like we really need to think about this
Cause it's like, yeah, you, you, there's, you know, I'm a big believer in like, you
know, ever since now that I have gotten engaged, like something we learned in like therapy
is just like the connectedness, you know, it's just like, what, you know, like at the
end of the day, you're either, you're either connected or you're not connected.
And like everything else, they talk about a spectrum and it's just like, you know, it's
not like you're not fighting, you're just disconnected type of thing.
And so when you're, when you're not touching and you're, when you're not holding hands,
you know for a period of time whether you you've there's a disconnect and so there's a it really is
nice and like obviously we're really proud of our daughter she's and the best part like when when i
don't know how you've experienced this with ford but like my favorite part of the day is being there
when river wakes up and she opens her eyes and just smiles every time it's the best it's the best
she's just like she's stoked it's like a surprise party every day every morning it's the best and
it just gets i know everybody said this to me and i was like okay cool but it gets so much better
like it is the craziest experience is that every single month couple months whatever like i'm like
i thought i couldn't love this kid more on his first birthday i remember his first birthday
and just being like, it happened. I feel really bonded. Cause for me, it did take a little bit
to have the, like the way I felt about my dogs, you know, like I, I was like, had a crazy sick
obsession with my dogs. And I'm like, I'm never going to feel this way about this kid. Like I
just, he's really an inconvenience of my life right now. I love him. I think, I don't know.
But by one, I was like, I'm obsessed with this child. This is the greatest thing I've ever
decided to do. But it's like, it just keeps growing and growing and growing where I'm like,
almost terrified for him to get older and older because i don't know when he's gonna turn annoying
well i know that that little boys at like eight seven or eight they're really annoying but i've
heard that the moms always love them still like it's something in you that you have to still
son mother bond yeah that's the other thing is that there is like the only i think the only
person who truly loves a seven or eight year old boy is their mother at that time you know like no

change the tone for a second. I want to talk about clickbait because Nick gave me this name,
clickbait, uh, 10 years ago when he was on bachelor, because every time I interviewed him,
I did, I did my job. I did my job and I would get like a crazy soundbite and then he would go viral
for like whatever stupid thing he said in our interview, which is like, you know, that's my
J-O-B. You're great at it. And it was really funny because I would walk in interviews and
she'd be like, oh, it's clickbait. Even the first time I was on your podcast, you're like,
oh, it's clickbait. But now who's clicking the bait, Nick? You're the clickbait. You've taken
my crown. You learn from the best. If I have to stand on the e-news stage and report one more
time about news you've broken, I'm going to, I'm going to trademark clickbait. I honestly think
you're doing the craziest greatest interviews what like it started as one thing it's become
one thing was it strategic or did you just realize that you're really good at people
getting people to open up or is it do you just have this great team that like
i don't know all i mean i guess a little bit of everything yeah um my show the vile files has
always been like a relationship and pop culture podcast you know from the beginning but if you
I mean, I wish I haven't and I would be scared to, to go back and listen to like the first
few episodes.
Like I remember them and it's an entirely different show.
Yeah.
Um, you know, so it's like, it's always had its bones, which I'm sure you ladies as well.
Um, and it's just kind of one of those things where I just, I love doing it.
So there's that.
And you know, I, before I came to Hollywood, I was in business and sales and, you know,
And so I have that mindset of, you know, if you're not growing, you're dying.
You know, a lot of podcasts you see, it's like they pop and then they go away.
You know, it's like pop, go away.
You know, like it's the I heart playbook, you know, whoever just got canceled, let's
sign them to a deal.
Let's bleed them dry for 10 episodes and they'll go away.
And it's just like, so I just saw.
How long have you been doing the show now?
Five and a half years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
um and so my you know and i when i started the show i just my i had one overall goal which is
to always grow yeah you know i didn't care i wasn't trying to like pop i was just like kind
of shavings make a pile like i just wanted to see steady growth um so that was kind of a from
a shavings make a pile i've never heard a more straight man an analogy in my life like in a in
cowboy boot from the midwest just like shaving to make a path shaving to make a path i learned
that from work um but it's it's true you know it's like you just kind of stack successes you
know like but my question really is like how how are you getting all these people to come like is
it how what percentage of you dming getting the connection texting being like hey it's nick i
really want you to come on the show I hustle you do and how much is it publicist being like oh well
we're doing the press rounds do you want to come on I have now invested in bookers and I have
internal bookers I have external bookers I have my PR team which isn't really their job isn't to
book but they're in PR so they have relationships but more than anything I hustle yeah I reach out
I you know it's it's personal relationships you know especially the podcast space right because
it's like it's a long form interview and they you you want to feel comfortable it's not to say
there's a lot of people i don't know or have relationships so i think there's that and i think
um we've really invested in obviously our dramatic sizzles and things like that and then when it
comes to you know the reality tv space there's always like a newbie in town so to speak and
you know i've tried to create like the the show to become a destination for um for anyone but
specifically like reality tv stars um and i think part of it is just like you know with you know you
make these sizzles and i think quite honestly there's certain people who would like love to
have a sizzle that they're the star in and there's that and then um yeah i mean i like and i'd like
to think that i've grown the type of show where you know like i don't think i ask all that hard
questions you know i think there's a perception of like you know sometimes i'll have people come
on be like all right man take it easy on me it's just like i i you know especially when it comes
to reality tv space i certainly understand the plight of a reality tv star um i was very much
obviously vilified and i've yeah i've been the villain i've played all the roles i i understand
that regardless of if you've been a villain if you've been a hero or anything in between there's
not a single reality tv star that doesn't feel like there's more of them than the audience knows
and so my goal has always been to use that opportunity for anyone to come in to leave
and feel like the people listening you know feel like they have a better understanding of who that
person is and because i'm willing to like um get people to open up and be vulnerable even kind of
you know address some tough questions if they're able to answer them they always look better you
know like it's no fun like coming in you know facing adversity and then being interviewed by
your friends it just doesn't come across but how do you get away with it because i know there's pr
teams behind the scenes being like don't ask about the scandal and then you ask about the scandal so
Or are you just like, I don't agree to not ask about things like, well, most of the time
that person like in wants to talk, wants to, they're desperate to talk about it.
And it's so much timing.
Yeah.
So like, and I, like we have West Wilson on the show today, who's immersed in his own
little scandal.
Um, and, um, yeah, I mean like, so I think he knew I was going to ask about these questions
and I don't know how people are going to, you know, respond to his answers, but I just
think there's people respect someone who's willing to at least be asked certain questions.
And I think they, you know, I set that expectation with people, but like, and I, you know, I'm
not a journalist.
Um, and so I tell my guests, at least I want you to have a good experience here.
And so like, you know, I'm not, I'm not trying to gotcha anyone, you know, if there's something
I'm open with my audience that is this is not like you know we might take something out if
someone comes in and says something they're not comfortable with or it doesn't land the way they
want and they don't want it in for the most part we will you know work with them how often do you
get a text after being like dude a lot of it is this like panic yeah because I do get a lot of
like because we get that too where people are like oh my god I said this thing and then it came out
and then you're like can you delete it and I'm like it's already out in the world like I mean
to be honest that hasn't happened to us in years because we we do play it on the very safe side
just because we're the kind of brand now where it's like there's there's none of that but we
have been in that position before and that's a horrible text to get when you're like this person
who took their time and said yes and came on our show and now they're mad at me yeah i don't want
anyone to regret it you know like i think the only one who really regrets is tom sandoval at this
point uh but uh so many chances but that yeah that was not that was not without me trying to
have haven't had a decent experience but like um yeah i i you know it feels good that people do
come in and been like man i was not planning on talking about this right like you get it out of
me and i'm like really like i i you know um from the best but uh so yeah that is flattering and
thank you um but um at the same time yeah like i want people to have a good experience like it's
not fun to like you know i know what it's like to stress about stuff i'm not trying to affect
anyone's mental health negatively negatively it's it really is my goal to have all my guests
come on and even if they are challenged a little bit to feel like they have new allies or people
just like listen man like everyone makes mistakes i understand the humanize them because when it
comes to reality tv stars um you know the fans often you know see them as objects or just like
you know entities just like i'm a big football fan i'm a sports fan and i i'm obsessed with
sports and i understand that i don't just love rooting for the green bay packers i love hating
the minnesota vikings and i don't want to see them as humans i just see them as people who are
running around and catching footballs and things like that i understand that they are yeah um but
i don't really give a shit if they had a bad day on friday they better catch the ball you know what
i'm saying so like yeah i understand that when it comes to fans they they can forget that you know
we can be humans and it's ultimately my goal to humanize my guests and um so i want them to have
that, that good experience. I think what's interesting about you is that you now you say
you're not a journalist and that we know it's, but podcast hosts are becoming the new talk show
hosts. You know what I mean? Like the, like I said, like the amount of times we're talking
about an interview did or something that color daddy did or something, Julia Louis-Dreyfus did,
like it is the new pop culture, um, for sure. But I think what's interesting is, you know,
people were talking about when you were a reality star, people were talking about you
And then you switched over to having this show and sort of making news on others.
Has it been a hard revelation to then have you get the truth out of other people?
And now people expect the truth out of you all the time, because I know that people continue
like, let me do a better job.
You were on The Bachelor.
Everyone talked about your life.
Now you're famous for getting people to talk about their lives.
And now people are talking about your life.
Like, how do you separate the three, the, the, the, like, you've opened yourself up.
You have this top podcast, the Reddits on your life are like, when I was doing prep
for this interview are insane.
The amount of shit people are talking about you.
Yeah.
I don't go on.
How do you deal with like, I disconnect.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I just, I'm really good at protecting my mental health and the mental health of my family.
Like I, and I mean it when I say it, like I, I like to work.
I've always liked to work.
I've enjoyed work.
like the more I build the show, the less famous I want to be, you know, like I want, you know,
I really, I mean that, you know, it's just like, I, I like being successful. I've, I've chosen this
lane, you know, it was interesting, like kind of to your point, you know, I remember coming off
The Bachelor and, and doing my thing on social media. And it was like, you know what people
like, I'm getting less and less criticism. And like, people are kind of seeing me more as a
human not the villain it was like man this is nice oh people who would like really not like
me in the past are like oh he's a he's a fine guy and then i started the vile files and i started
like you know sharing hot takes in my strong opinion and again like sports just like people
ride for their their people and and so when you when you criticize their people like and you know
with the vile files i very much you know again it's a relationship and pop culture podcast so
We really try to take, like, conversations that happen online or on reality TV and use them as a launchpad for conversations that might be relatable to the real world.
And we have our ASNIC episode, which is really just relationship-based questions and things like that.
And so, like, recently, Summer House, you have the, like, Wes and Ciara scandal.
And, you know, obviously, like, she's upset and heartbroken.
And Ciara is, like, literally a supermodel.
I think she is a model for Victoria's Secrets.
And she's very nice and wonderful.
I've had her on the show.
She seems, you know, great.
And then we have this Wes Wilson, who's just kind of like, you know, he's a very handsome guy, but like presents is like your kind of average Joe Schmo on TV.
And then like he like ends the relationship with her and she's upset at the reunion.
And the world is like, how does this average guy not want to date someone?
What a boy.
He screwed her over.
And she's like, I don't you know, I don't I'm not like most people.
She's saying this on the show over and over.
And she's just like, I only have sex with people when I'm in committed relationships.
And then we found out at the reunion, they did have sex after he invited her to a wedding
and introduced her to her parents, but they weren't in a committed relationship.
And the world, the world's losing their mind.
And then I go on my show while everyone's just like, West, we love Sierra.
And I'm just like, well, listen, like West up and like, well, love Sierra.
But like Sierra has no one to blame but herself, you know?
And I'm just talking about from like an ethnic perspective of like offering, and I'm like,
this isn't a criticism of Sierra, love Sierra.
But it's just more like when you ask for something, commitment, and you accept less, an invitation to a wedding, like generally you're going to end up being disappointed.
And when you don't enforce your own boundary being like, hey, I only have sex when I'm in a committed relationship, you generally have no one to be upset by yourself.
but but yourself and so we can be mad at west and we can criticize west's behavior and we can
simultaneously look at sierra's choices and say what could she have done differently and like
that's how i approach it but when sometimes people hear like me saying that they're like how
you you know shit like that and so then you immediately become the villain again so after
starting the vile files it was just like kind of a bummer being like i i had i all this good will
and now i'm just become like the the sports you know like again like stephen a smith colin cowherd
people in sports like people have strong opinions of them because like every once in a while colin
cowherd will go on a show and been like here's why i think the backers aren't as good as they
should be but nick is different that you know and then so i just stay offline i disconnect i don't
read comments i you know i have a team now they post for me yeah um yeah i'm offline you know so
i you know and then you don't because now and natalie's part of the show co-hosting the show
ish yeah and so yeah now she becomes a little bit you know she she puts a little bit of a target
You're like literally putting yourselves in the mixer to like, then people come for your
relationship.
It is what it is, you know?
And that's just a-
You're the Dr. Phil.
You know, Robin used to sit in the audience at every Dr. Phil show.
Yes.
Oh, really?
Yes.
But now Natalie's sharing her story and she's sharing, like, it's, you're just-
Yeah, you're just-
You're prime for, but you're also-
I've had so-
You've had so much practice in this.
Yeah.
And that's the thing.
It's just like-
But has she, is she okay with it?
You know, like I, she's gotten much better.
Yeah.
You know, like we've been-
a while to get that thick skin you know oh it's so hard but listen you you will never be able
like you can never have thick enough skin to handle whatever rumors are about you and i i i'm
aware of a ton of rumors about me and i know that i'm unaware of 90 more because i don't read it
i'll have like for example uh i'll get this very kind of backhanded compliment from like a lot of
other reality tv stars and it's just like man i'm like so impressed with what you're doing like i
want to do what you're doing. And it's just like, you know, like you don't care that people hate
you. And I'm like, no, I do. Um, I just don't read it. You know, I, I just, I'm unaware of
the criticism and I'm always, you know, uh, like a lot of bachelor alumni's will, you know, call
me up and ask for advice and I'll never listen. And they're just like, well, you know, how do
you do? And I'm like, I don't read my own press. I don't read my comments. I'm not on Reddit. Um,
I actively stay off of it and I'm just unaware of things that people say, you know,
you are an anomaly though, because the people who are drawn to reality television are people
who never tire of seeing themselves on social media and what everyone's saying. Like that is
usually the formula for people who want to be on reality TV. It's like a little touch of narcissism
in a way that you are like putting yourself out there really put risking a lot by putting
yourself on a lot of these a lot yeah but in return you're willing to do it pops of like
they're talking about me they hate me they love me i can call the press for the fame for the
whatever so it's like a very you are an anomaly in the sense that you really truly like and after
knowing you for 10 years you really genuinely don't care about what's happening outside of
your one little, which I think is the only way you can continue doing the show with your wife
and your baby's mother and have it be as successful as it is. Because if you think
about it, if you look at the other top 10 podcasts out there and I'm, you know, I said it when you
walked in, like I am, and we are so proud of you. I remember when you first started the show and
like, I've always, you know, I it's incredible what you've built, but if you look at the other
podcasts out there there's no husband wife team there's no confidential i'm talking top 10 i'm
talking like they do very well call her daddy but i'm sure that they deal with i guarantee you that
i'm sure they do yeah but it's like you're really putting you guys are putting yourselves out there
even like talking about the wedding and all these things it's tough yeah you just gotta you gotta
disconnect you gotta stay offline and truly it's just like think about it it's just and i said and
we've talked to us on the spot uh our podcast a couple weeks ago i'm always blown away by the
amount of public figures who are willing to promote their own bad press it blows my mind like who
everyone right and i here's what i mean by this it's just like here's the thing there's so much
news out there there's a zillion podcasts there's a zillion streaming channels the content is
infinite like everyone we we live in a society that non-famous people are obsessed with their
own lives you know everyone has where we have a main character syndrome epidemic going on in this
world right so the truth is truly no one really gives a shit about you as much as they give a
shit about themselves uh when you go on social media you know and you're just look at your
comments or look at your dms like no one looks at your comments more than you do 100 and maybe
your 10 like craziest fans. Um, and so, you know, or, and, and so like, or, you know, again,
I don't read Reddit, but like, I know a lot of my peers do. Right. And so Reddit, you know,
again, I understand if you go and look and you see those, Holy cow, there's, there's 30,000 people
in this, in this group. And it was like, uh, you know, it's just like 30,000 followers on Instagram,
not to like, it's nothing, you know? And it feels like a lot, right?
in the grand scheme of things no it's interesting because we get reviews and i'll be like guys
we have to stop blah blah blah and jack will be like and becca will be like it was one out of
how many millions how many yeah think about how many people listen to your show you know and then
also reading your comments just handcuffs you creatively you know because like you have to
trust your own instincts like i'm all for like fan feedback but like no one knows what made you
guys successful more than you guys right um and so like so but i'll see a lot of like bachelor
i'll see like a lot of bachelor alums you can tell they're reading reddit right because all
of a sudden they'll go on you know and they and these people have hundreds of thousands of
followers millions of followers in some situations and all of a sudden you'll be like on instagram
and on your story and then there'll be a post in their story being like i'm just so tired of people
saying this about me and blah blah blah and this isn't true and how could you say that i'm like i
have i did not know that people bring attention to it they are again they're promoting their own
bad price they go from like this niche again reddit is niche it's not it's not mainstream
it's just it's just a bunch of people who like they're too self-obsessed to realize that not
many people care or know think about it yes and then it's just like it's just not that important
you know and so then they'll go and just like and then what happens when when the public figure goes
on their instagram and either like denies people magazine exactly and it's just like it becomes a
whole national story and it's just like how many people have like promoted bullshit rumors about
themselves only to deny it and then you know then it kind of looks like a cover yeah yeah cover and
it's just like it blows my mind it is crazy people's willingness to do it just let it go
listen i'm human as much as i say i stay offline i i'm sure i've had my moments of weakness i had
to get better and better at this. And it's just amazing, you know, when something happens and
you're just like terrified of like what people might be saying and then like two days go by and
then people move on. You're just like, if I had just not ever been made aware about this, I would
have never known about it. And I wouldn't have been stressed for two or three days. And it's,
you think about that and like, you know, and I've had those moments and those, and that's what keeps
me off because you realize the only thing that happened is I was just made aware about something.
that right you know i that got me paranoid or neurotic or like you know you know and things
like that and then i realized like 48 hours later that no one really gives a shit you know because
you know no one gets it and whatever and it's just like you just move on you know i've i've you know
you see yeah i mean i've just i could you know in the past like i would be scrolling on instagram
or tiktok and like i'd just be like and someone's like talking about me saying this crazy shit i'd
just be like oh my god that's not what is this person saying i don't even know this person they
act like they know and you know two days later no one cares and even when if even if something
gets a hundred thousand views and 30 comments it's nothing it really just is it's just it's a
like it's a peck of sand in like the sea of the ocean it's just no one cares and as long as you
stop like thinking everyone gives a shit about you because they don't um you'll be fine i want
to ask you before we go tricky part for most people yes you just got to disconnect i know
It's just, you know, realizing they're not the center of the universe.
Well, very, very difficult.
No one's reading your comments more than you like and stop thinking that the entire stop
thinking you're a hundred thousand like you're a hundred thousand followers or you're a million
followers or obsessively like have like notifications on your posts and they're reading every comment
because only you're doing it.
I know it's crazy.
I'm like, oh, thanks, Nick.

like i said it is a lot and also they offer up to 12 hour protection against leaks which is a game
changer i don't want to brag but ford does sleep 12 hours a night so this is perfect i do not wake
up with a wet baby get your baby's butt into huggies little movers we got you baby we've also
got you mamas because there's nothing worse than a leaky diaper
you're listening to the lady gang um my last question is just about the wedding you guys
looked so so beautiful what a romance novel you crushed it you crushed it i really days leading
up to it i thought i was about to throw fire festival 2.0 yeah talk about that well it's
just like we kind of so stressful we had people like we had we you know never planned a wedding
before right and it was uh at natalie's sister's farmhouse beautiful so we had a very stunning
kind of canvas but like it wasn't a wedding you don't have you have to bring in everything gonna
do everything and there's you know when you have it at a wedding venue they do this every weekend
and like we just kind of did it on our own and you know i'm a big believer that like cheap can
get really expensive yeah um but sometimes you forget you're like well just get dan and his like
av system and like put a spotify list on and you're like we didn't get like one of those like
hollywood like wedding planners that like it's fifty thousand dollars before you spend a dollar
type of thing yeah and so um there was just a lot of like moments where it was just like oh my god
is this gonna all come together and like the days before it was like oh my god like i don't i i don't
And how old was your daughter when you guys, I mean, she was like brand new.
Three months.
Yeah.
Uh, so just, yeah.
But during the planning, you were literally learning how to be parents and doing the wedding.
Yeah.
Uh, and now like, you know, it was all Nellie's vision.
Um, Nellie did, I mean, Nellie did, I really, I honestly didn't, I had a small idea and
a vision of my head of what the wedding would be, but like, I, I kind of showed up for my
own wedding being like, wow.
and i was really the whole week and i was just like wow this is this is a great wedding i was
really proud of natalie and even proud of us but like it was really it was i couldn't imagine it
going any better i think she became for any woman who has carried a baby i think she became like the
face on their like um dartboard because for her to have been postpartum by like two seconds
look like that yeah i was like this is the most drop the mic moment of a woman i've ever seen in
my life i think every woman who's ever had a baby was like that woman in a good way she's gotten
like both praise and criticism she's gotten criticism well i mean for the whole like for
the like she'll post a picture you know just like you know feeling good or whatever and she's not
it's not even like a picture of like look at me it's just a picture and then people look at it
Be like, it's not that easy for everyone.
And like, not that she, she wasn't like, look at me, look what I did.
It was just like, you know.
Well, that's like unavoidable.
And so yeah, like, you know, you can be triggering and I just have to let, remind her that's
just like, you know, people are just expressing themselves.
It's not a personal thing.
Right.
And really, I shouldn't even be making a comment, nor should anybody about like how a woman
looks after having a baby.
But for the most part, women look not like themselves.
It's tough.
It's a, it's a transformation of a body that you can't even imagine.
i can't even imagine so i was like i think it's a it was a gangster move for her to not do the
quintessential bridal thing which is become a shell of the person and emaciated and wait until
that moment of your life and instead she was like the most beautiful bride big old mouth jobs ever
here they are i was like this is the most like feminine it was very feminine that's what i
thought and i just think it's really it's cool no thank you for saying that it's very cool i
I was really proud of her.
It was awesome.
And like when we, we got engaged and then four months later, you know, it was like,
we're engaged.
So we kind of like, and I, you know, I'm older.
So like, and I, you know, um, you know, I've always been a quality over quality guy, you
know, but like, you know, I've been around.
So this thing, and it was like one of those things where it's just like, why haven't I
had like a scare or, and it's like, maybe I don't, maybe, maybe I don't make babies.
you know like i don't know like i never like went to the doctor and tested or anything yeah and
you're like here's the test you're kind of getting your head so like you know we were like you know
we kind of like now it was kind of in her like maternal feelings and it was you know you know
we kind of were like she was ovulating around and find out kind of thing and i'm thinking well i
don't even know if yeah this can happen i always wanted to have a kid and like that instant like
that and so after she got pregnant we're like oh and then it was like do we like shock on it and
try to move things up because we had we had the plans so the date was set right not much work was
done other than the set we knew we wanted it so like we could have easily moved it yeah um she has
older you know uh her her dad has some health struggles her grandfather is in his 90s her
grandmother rest in peace you know didn't make it to the wedding was very sad but like the idea
of extending it was risking the possibility of a very special people not being able to make it
and then it was kind of like if we if we moved it up like and then it was like she was going to be
you know we have to do it to move it up you'd have to move it up so quickly so that like she
didn't want to be pregnant yeah you know super pregnant when when she got married so we're just
like let's just keep it and then you know and she was like i'll just kind of do my best post you
know having a baby and you listen we're very fortunate and very privileged to have you know
to be able to have a we have her mom who's like single and available and was very helpful and
you know we're able to afford like additional child care when needed and so i was just like
whatever you need um let me know you know and we made it interesting because we were just having
conversation becca just talked about this and it went completely viral um online when she was
talking about her nanny and it's like there's like this nanny shaming where you're not like
really allowed to say like the only reason i can continue to do this like when you guys are
doing the show someone's watching river you know what i mean when becca is in austin and
a couple times it's been my employees really yeah it's great but it's i mean i think it's
cool that you guys are like listen the reason that this works is because we have we have support we
have a tribe we have like you know what I mean because you can't be at this level doing this
without that help yeah I know it's and then like Natalie being on the show is just kind of organic
thing I just think she's hilarious and she's great on the show and she's just like she's a natural
and I've always like she's also not afraid of you which I love I love like it's just not that
you're like someone to fear but it's like it's your domain you're older you're like established
and she's so your equal and she like really does not hold back and i think it's what why it works
yeah and i i to me she's the star of the family you know like and if if we're you know if if in
10 years she's not the star we're doing it wrong because i mean she is a star like i'm i'm i'm a
reluctant public figure like i don't you know uh i think i really have i can turn it on but i have
to turn on she's just a naturally has has god-given talent and yeah i like working with my
wife and it's nice and it's fun and like she's still like and i'm very fortunate to have a lot
of talented people on the show and so she can you know sometimes she isn't on because you know we
you know for whatever reason um but it's great i love you guys ever like fight sure yeah
what has been the like but we also like do couples therapy you know yeah um and we're really good at
yeah it's it's we're we're big communicators i very much do try to you know like you practice
what you preach i do try to practice what i preach i'm very fortunate you know natalie
is way ahead of where i was um and again we both very much invest in therapy both individually and
as a couple and so you know we've learned certain like i guess tools like you know we don't if we're
if we're having a disagreement that lasts more than five minutes like we stop you know because
we realize now we're just fighting yeah and now we're now i'm just tired now we're not trying to
like get on the same page now we're trying to win so we we stop you know and things like that
i want to win every it doesn't happen often but like we're just really trying to like
not, we're just trying to be on the same page. We're trying to stay connected, you know? And
so there are times where, you know, um, Natalie will come to me or I'll come to her and she's
like, I'm just feeling a little disconnected from you. And I immediately know what that means or,
you know, and so that's the, the, the goal is connectedness. And so like, it's when you have
a common goal in a relationship, it makes a lot easier. Um, when you feel like you're two
individuals, uh, in a relationship, it's a lot harder. You know, I've been in a lot of relationships
where I feel like I was competing with my partner.
I never feel like I'm competing with her.
Um, so yeah, it's been great.
But yeah, we're, we have, we do not have a perfect relationship.
We work very hard on it.
Like I don't like to ever give a relationship by any stretch of the imagination that our
relationship is far from perfect.
Um, but we do work very hard on it.
And, um, it seems like you're both kind of in the same, you're both very emotionally
mature.
Yeah.
And like the, have the awareness and like not too much ego to avoid those things like
therapy and communication and all that stuff.
Like you've met, you've met your match as far as emotional maturity goes.
Yeah.
I, yes.
I mean, yeah.
You need a 20 year age difference to be the same.
Don't you think that Lindsay and Carl didn't work because he's in this self-actualized,
I'm not saying he's perfect at all and he should have never been in the relationship
because he knew who she was before he even whatever but this is neither here nor there
but like he's in a place of self-work and trying to learn more about himself and like she's just
somebody who's her her emotional maturity is stunted like as somebody like as me watching
i'm feel like i'm watching somebody wants a finished product and carl's not right you know
and i wasn't a finished product at 28 29 or in my early 30s and i i had a very selfish 30s yeah you
know um i took a ton of risks i was like sleeping on an air mattress for a while you know what i'm
saying like um not ready for the real i would not have been able to be in a relationship with natalie
you know um natalie was living on her own in new york at 16 years old you know she and we had very
different childhoods you know she unfortunately has dealt with some very traumatic trauma
and abuse and and and that's terrible um but that has forced her to deal with shit
at various times in her life and has allowed her to mature you know beyond her years and
because out of necessity for survival right um and yeah it it works well we loved having you
here i have one little game i prepared um since you are the king of reality tv interviews i have
prepared this took me forever so we have to do it um a bracket where i put all the best reality
