Starting point is 00:00:00 well what is this welcome to the lady gang that's amazing say that again the lady gang things are about to change around here each week we catch up with hollywood's hottest girl posse kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanik hello hello hello welcome to lady gang i am becca tobin here with jack vanik and kelty knight What's up? Hi ladies. Hello. We're really repping lady gang over here. And then Jack's in her severance t-shirt. You Jack would, this is the most Jack thing. I was like, Hey, we're recording the podcast. Everyone bring them the merch. It's so cute. It's new and whatever. And I like fully got like committed, made sure everything was washed ready hats, t-shirts, everything. Jack
Starting point is 00:00:45 is like, I will wear my own merch. And then I'm going to wear a severance t-shirt. And like, she designed it like it's your child but you get over things so quick as soon as it's out in the world you're like and i'm over it i need something new you're actually the perfect buyer yes like i will wear this shirt for the next 10 years i get so sick of things yeah you get so sick of things i know it's actually wild well it's like a musician that's been working on a song for a long time you've been looking at it longer than we have yeah no that makes sense yeah but i will say i'm wearing the lady gang lion tee and i already got a little thing on it um so it's already wrecked a little bit but that's very on brand you know i really wish i had gone smaller
Starting point is 00:01:24 in that shirt the ringer t yeah get another one i know but i'm so mad at myself i wore it it's the other day it's way too big on me i washed mine and it shrunk a little okay a tiny bit so but yeah you actually need i think all the merches you could size down yeah there's something reason it's like a little bit bigger this time weird anyway it's so cute and i um i actually well this is my okay okay it's time for good week yes it is bad week oh no okay so as you guys know i copy becca and jack for whatever they have and i actually had a very funny day recently that was like a copying trifecta so obviously i cut the bob which is like number one but then we saw a person out and she was like in front of jack i was standing with jack she goes oh my god i love
Starting point is 00:02:14 your necklace. I have the same one. And I was like, Oh, this is a necklace that Jack wore with a J and I got, I, but I checked with you before. I was like, I'm going to order the same thing. So it was the K, but then it was also something where we were doing this thing. And Becca was like, what, what am I going to wear? And I was like, you know, it'd be so cute if you wore like our lady gang ringer shirt with like a pattern bottom or a skirt or something. And I gave her that suggestion. And the suggestion was so good that two days before that I actually wore the same thing. And I was so excited about my outfit. And so many people were like, is this your bad week? No, no, no. Continue. And I was like, wait, this is such a good idea. I'm so cute. Wow. And
Starting point is 00:02:53 then you had to wear it. And I was like, God, it must really suck to be Becca and Jack. So I just want to thank you for making me cute. But I know I'm just going to show you something that I did a couple of weeks before this, what I, what I happened to wear was a lady gang shirt with the camo pant yeah so you didn't originate the you're saying you told me how to wear the shirt i i had already worn styled the shirt in the way that you had suggested right and so probably i mean i don't subconsciously i don't write down what you wear every this oh so you think oh you think that i'm saying that you copied my leopard skirt look no i'm not no i'm saying that you copied what she wore right now this is so confusing no i'm saying that i copy everything
Starting point is 00:03:39 you do and i suggested to becca it would be so cute if you wore the ringer shirt with this but she's like yes bitch i invented that look i already did it also it's literally a t-shirt with pants what is so groundbreaking about it nothing but i'm just saying i wore it and i felt cute and i just want to tell you that i'm so thankful you're in my life oh because i have nothing to offer. And thank God you made us cute merch that I can wear. And then I have my one way of wearing it. I had this leopard skirt that I really wanted to wear for a long time. I had nothing to wear with that. I didn't know how to wear it and I wore it and I felt cute and that's it. That's the story. Good week. I felt cute. Well, thanks to you both. Wait, you did have a
Starting point is 00:04:21 moment, a good week moment that you realized that I did copy you with something. What did you copy are with our luggage oh the backpack to me backpack yes when we travel well we recently traveled and we brought the boys so we had jack jared chris kelty these four people going through the airport they all had the same we everybody all had a way with luggage with a to me leather backpack on the top the four of us it was so embarrassing but like great too but you did copy me with that copy you and it's great but you didn't even copy me right because you didn't even get the good design. Okay. My bad week is this. I am in this era where I really believe I'm meant to be a TV star and I'm going to stop at nothing. I'm very annoyed that I'm at this
Starting point is 00:05:04 point in my life where I've been on TV for so long and no one's asking me to be on, is it cake? No one's asking me to be on Hollywood squares. No one's asking me to be like this celebrity guest on anything. RuPaul's drag race. Like I'm very angry about it. And so I put it on my goal list that like I'm going to be a special guest star on something because there are people, there's a show called After Midnight who has the same EP as the guy who EP'd Superfan. They have guest celebrities every night, never asked me to be on it. Like I'm ready for my closeup. You deserve more than a guest spot. Thank you. So I did the thing where an old executive, her name's Tommy. She actually is responsible at the time she was at NBC Universal for getting me my job on E! News, one of the people
Starting point is 00:05:47 involved and I've known her forever. She's like a talent executive where she like takes talent and brings them to networks. So I found out she recently moved to Fox. So I wrote an impassioned text message to her. She was asking for Chris's, um, she was asking for Chris's number probably to get one of his like actual stars. And then I was like, Oh, no problem. I was like, by the way, I heard you're at Fox. That's so great. Um, and I made an impassioned text message about how I think I would be great on special forces on Fox. I was like, I am a year out from my hysterectomy changed my life i found new strength in myself being a 40 year old childless woman there's a great story there like i really went forth away like as if i was the agent at william morris
Starting point is 00:06:25 to which she responds oh man that would be great i'm at fox studios not fox network oh god oh no so embarrassing that's why people don't pitch themselves because the agent would know that she was like i could send this to like my counterpart at the network and i was like it's fine great to hear from you bye like also we you need to be doing traders not special forces either way I would be great no I mean yet traders is so much better I would be a great trader I love this season okay keep going okay I'll go um okay so you know I have my big goal of like um being on feet finder and like we each have our own different goals I'm like I would like to be on the traders or special forces and Jack's like I would like to be on feet finder I want to be like
Starting point is 00:07:11 on wikivy okay and i have like two fans that keep asking me for foot pics um one of them is a guy named ken another one is a guy named scott and scott is the one that i've talked about it before not my ex-boyfriend he always sends very polite emails he's like wait this is the one that we would realize we received the same yeah he's like if you want to it'd be really nice but like don't if you don't want to it's totally fine it's crazy you guys scott sent me a new email not about feet picks about something else titled kissing content hi jack sorry to bother you this is a strange request but i was just wondering if you would ever be interested in selling kissing slash making out videos for example just you and your partner kissing and making out for 30 seconds or one
Starting point is 00:07:52 minute or for any duration it's absolutely okay but if you were possibly ever interested in selling that kind of content i would love to buy them from you he but like well you are i just want If anyone knows something about Scott, he's a cheap bastard because I pitched him some numbers because I tried to get him. Remember for Lady Gang Live? Yeah. The tour. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I was going to try to get him to donate to this like female reproductive charity thing. Yeah. And so I said, I'll send you the fee. You will have to make a donation in this amount to this charity. How much? He said, oh, wow, that's too much for me. And I think it was like five grand. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:08:34 this guy doesn't have five grand well you know what if you're asking people for things like kissing videos for 30 seconds you should probably offer five grand i'm gonna ask him his price for the foot picks first say yeah what are you thinking yeah what's kind of price okay i bet you it's something like 250 dollars for your kissing anyway you need no not the kissing i'll do it for a foot pick because that's easy and requires no video jack how many stairs are in your new house 14 yeah well jack is very stressed because the stair railings are super expensive yeah you need to take the total amount of stair stairs you have yeah break down per video yeah what you need to make kissing her feet and then you need to write them back and be like here's
Starting point is 00:09:16 the total budget i'll give you a package deal if you buy my new 14 videos yeah for the price of 14 videos okay and then pay for you guys that's a good idea he just is not going to come up with the money i hate to tell you this okay i do want to know his price though okay he seems very persistent okay um my bad week so after my myomectomy surgery I've been so bloated and I'm like is this normal is it not whatever and I had another appointment with my um naturopath and I was telling you like they left something inside I'm like is another fibroid growing I swear to god because they can grow back anyways I was talking to her and she's like you know it after surgery like you can get this thing called SIBO it's like when there's like yeah like small
Starting point is 00:09:56 intestinal bacteria overgrowth and she's like or it could be like all these things and like sent me to do all these tests and so the SIBO test is like a breath test it was fine whatever but then I had to do the stool test I've done a stool test before but you guys it's the worst it is disgusting they give you the it's like literally catches it yeah but it's like a little paper container that you get like fries like a hot dog yeah like a sporting event and they're like but you can't get pee in it and you can't get like the water from the toilet in it it's really hard to or poop without peeing the whole thing was like so gross yes not for me because you're just like pressing down so like I was getting peel over my hands I was trying so hard I also was constipated
Starting point is 00:10:36 so the poop wasn't really coming thank you so much for being here today Ryan Cabrera he's not listening to this it was such chaos and I'm like I can't believe this is something they just like have you do by yourself it would be really weird to do it like in an office did you get the results no not yet I'm still waiting they can tell a lot from your poop no I know and then you had to like put it in like the different vials I had four different vials and like scoop with the little scooper spoon and you had to scoop from different parts of your poop nothing grosser than taking the coke spoon and scooping your own poop and you're like man I have things I've changed and then I'm like there's a piece of corn in here I haven't had corn in four days I'm like this is
Starting point is 00:11:08 saying a lot about my poop yeah wow anyways it was really bad stool tests are hard yeah and then it's like then you have like I was like poop shy because I'm like I have to get it like it has happened today anyways whole thing okay wow that's upsetting okay well um my good week is that somebody in my life i don't know who signed me up for future self emails have you heard of this oh my god no you have to like write yourself like a like a no it writes from your future right so i noticed for i bet it was zach i doubt it is it like a mental health thing kind of so i started to see your future self in this subject but i have received so many weird emails that i i just kept deleting it without opening it yeah then finally i opened it this is an example this is
Starting point is 00:11:55 my one today when you feel overwhelmed remember to breathe becca take a moment to ground yourself and focus on your breath it's a powerful way to recenter and regain clarity you've got this inhale exhale your future self wait oh so it's not actually notes from the universe i don't think so oh Christina signed me up for this notes from the universe and every day I get a note from the universe it's like hey you're okay like whatever I think what if they read if you were signed up I was maybe they read I would remember if I did something it's but it's my good week because you know what it's nice not something I would sign myself up for normally did I did I opened it in the uber today and I was like oh you're like you're right I thought it was like
Starting point is 00:12:31 something you'd like write a letter to your future no no and that's not really your instantly unsubscribe this isn't your future self it's some like copy paste like of course I bet you 8 million people received the same one they just type in their name but i'm into it all right okay my bad week is that um barbara had like a little ear itchiness so i ordered this amazon little squirt bottle solution for her ear um i was doing it i left it on the kitchen counter and at the same time ford was having a battling a cold and the saline solution that i squirt up his nose is in the same container looking container as the ear solution so i accidentally squirted dog ear solution of my kid's nose oh no i thought it was the other way around i had to call poison
Starting point is 00:13:19 control yes and when you call poison control it turned out it was fine the solution was like very it was like hydrocortisone or something benign but do they alert then they have to yeah then they take your name oh no child protective services yeah so if anything happens again you're out three strikes can't be an accident i i was mortified oh my god yeah but i'm so happy poison control still exists because most people would just go to the internet but there's so much information on the internet that you're not even sure what's right you don't even know it's real poison control is bomb i mean i'm scared that now they're tracking my every move but they are yeah that was three strikes you're out of motherhood that's scary that is take me away yeah you never
Starting point is 00:14:01 know well oh my god that's actually like oh no it's not the song I was like that's a Ryan Cabrera song take me away oh no that's on the way down okay when we come back Ryan's here now back to the lady gang today on lady gang we're celebrating a major career highlight with a very special guest it's been 20 years since he dropped his debut album take it all away giving us on the way down and so much more since then he's not only kept the music coming but also become a reality tv favorite toward the world and brought his signature good vibes wherever he goes and that's not if that's not exciting enough he will be headlining lady world this september we can't wait to dive into all the nostalgia stories from the road and what is next please welcome everyone's
Starting point is 00:14:49 childhood crush ryan cabrera i love this intro everything is awesome take you on the road with oh yeah okay first of all you had your breakout i can't believe it's been 20 years when i saw you were doing 20 years of on the way down i was like no that was yesterday it feels it feels like it it's it's what's fun too about it is like i'll still go like grocery shopping or wherever like run errands and stuff and be like oh you'll hear it still play or like people text me like every day like oh your song's playing in home depot or walgreens or whatever and i'm like that's so cool that's still like 20 years later it's still like playing in places i'll go to ralph's and hear it i'm like that's me never went on a rotation you have the coolest colored eyes
Starting point is 00:15:31 oh thank you did you see them i was hoping my baby got green eyes but she got i mean there's they're beautiful gorgeous and like the most insane blue but selfishly i was like oh i don't have green eyes i was like there's a chance but how old is she she's 15 months it can change she has her mom's eyes right now and that's more important than having mine well i don't know there's a chance i had blue eyes until i was like one or two and then they turned green oh i didn't know that was a thing i had blue eyes until i was two and then they turned brown yeah i can't believe you have a 15 month old daughter i know wow no sleep i haven't slept in 15 months no it'll come back that's what everybody says but i've already accepted it so i'm just like
Starting point is 00:16:10 this is how it is and i'm happy now with our what she's sleeping in our bed now too which is really fun yeah at first i was against it and then now i'm like i get to wake up every year so like it rules oh cute what do you remember about it all hitting like where were you when did you look yeah uh on ventura and sepolveda outside of tower records was the very first time i ever heard all the way down on kiss fm oh my god it was like uh in store remember in stores i don't even do that anymore like fye and tower records which was like i used to go every week to get like the drop of the new albums and uh i was driving up and there was an in-store i don't know who was there but So there's a line all the way down Sepulveda and at the time I called it Sepulveda, but
Starting point is 00:16:50 if you're in LA, you know, you know the thing, but so I was driving, I saw all those people and I heard it on the radio and so I had my top down. I was like, that's me. I was like, that's me. And everyone's like, yeah, no, no, that's me on the radio. So I'm driving down. I was stoked. I'll never forget that, that, that moment.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Do you get a heads up when it's like, that it's going to be playing? You just have to, I mean, if you're going to be like in the radio station, you do like a thing you know they're gonna play it but that's not the same like it was a very like that thing you do yeah moment of like they're running down the street and like and that moment hit me and i'll i'll never forget that moment wait do you have regular parents i have regular parents and so what was their like what was the family reaction like yeah they might ever even even still like my my dad's always like when you're gonna get a real job no i was like dad and at that time it was even like a couple years in and like things were crazy crazy doing like madison
Starting point is 00:17:43 square garden angel stadium and all this stuff and i'm like see because they didn't he didn't understand he's from columbia south america you know his you know he moved here when he was young and like built his you know he was a businessman so he wanted me to go to college they didn't like that i dropped out of college you know but same old story so he never thought like being in the entertainment business is a real job so he's like you know when are you gonna get a real job like i make more than you and mom combined and i was like did you ever show him your bank account yeah no i wanted to yeah i was like i mean more than both of you guys so it's actually pretty real and so they never really kind of made my mom she was always supportive of like whatever you
Starting point is 00:18:18 where'd you grow up i grew up in texas oh yeah i moved out here when i was like 20 so like 2000 and how did you get discovered discovered so joe simpson who's actually right hold on i think i knew this from the show but repeat it yeah so he saw me play in dallas i was playing at the hard rock doing this like little showcase acoustic and he came up to me after it was like i'm you're gonna fly to LA and you're gonna live with me in the family and they had a house in Encino and I was in colleges I was three months into UTD uh and college was never that I didn't go to class like I had my buddy take my final four it was for me I knew I wanted to play music and so Joe was like you're gonna move out with the family two days later I had a bag a pair of flippy floppies
Starting point is 00:18:59 and I was on my way to LA to live with the Simpson family and I moved in and then you know Ashley was the room next to me and that was you know kind of so was this an arranged marriage it was not no at the time we were already friends so we me and jessica had the same vocal teacher in dallas okay so i was you know she would always talk about jessica talk about ashley so when ashley flew back to dallas there was one time and this is like maybe like 99 or 2000 something like that um actually back and linda was like will you take out ashley you know she doesn't know anybody here like if you want to hang out i was like yeah so i took her to john mayer uh before john mayer This is like before Rupert Square's John Mayer.
Starting point is 00:19:36 So before it hit and I took her to what I thought was a date, it was not. Oh, my God. For her. She was like, okay, this is this dude. And so I was super nervous. I take her to John Mayer. I was like, ah. And then after, she's like, okay, you dropped me off at home.
Starting point is 00:19:50 I'm like, you don't want to hang out or whatever? She's like, no. I'm like, damn. I guess she had a boyfriend at the time. I didn't know it. But I thought it was a date. It was not. And then fast forward, this was before it had nothing to do with Joe Simpson seeing me play or anything.
Starting point is 00:20:03 That was just completely random. And then I ended up moving in and then we became like best friends. And then after we shot the video for On the Way Down, that was the first time we ever kissed. And you were just friends in the video? We were just friends. So Joe had the idea like, hey, let me put – because Ashley had some traction going on. People knew she was because of 7th Heaven. And so he's like, I'll put Ashley in your music video and that'll help people watch the video.
Starting point is 00:20:28 So I was like, okay. And then we kissed in the video, but it was just for the video. And then that night we went out and then ended up making out on the dance floor on the floor in the middle of the bar on the floor, make it out for like hours, like literally like this is why I tell people who are dating that even if you don't know, even if they feel more platonic, you have to make out, you have to make out to see sometimes. Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So yeah, the kid and I was super like kind of shy in the, in the video because she, we, the kiss wasn't planned. Right. she just like went in for it and so if you like see some of the takes even i think in the video i hadn't seen it in forever but i think like i like back up because i was taken aback like she just kissed me i was like what's up i was like is this the thing and then you know she's an actress and you know but then that night we'd you know gone out and then it turned into a full makeout session the day before then we kind of were inseparable ever since that because we
Starting point is 00:21:25 were we lived next door to each other and like i would go in her room and play her songs and be Like, do you like this one? It's my dream. I know. She was like, no, I don't like that one. Or I love this one. And then that was kind of how I got my approval for what was going to make my album. And I would go in her room, just sing her songs.
Starting point is 00:21:41 It's literally the perfect. Turned into a relationship. It's the perfect A&R. Yeah. It works. You know what I mean? That's what I was. I was like, you know, a guy playing a guitar, singing a girl's songs.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Like, that's supposed to be how it works, right? Which ones does the girl like? And then the girl turned not just from Ashley, but to like every girl in the world. That's so true. And we loved it. That would be the goal. So it didn't work for true though, because before me and Ashley, I wrote true, which was actually my biggest single I've ever had.
Starting point is 00:22:08 It was a love song that I wrote for this girl who's one of Ashley's best friends. And I sang it for her and it didn't work. She didn't like it. She didn't until she started seeing me on MTV and hear it on the radio. Classic. Like years later, she started calling me like nonstop. And at that point I was like, hell no. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:26 I was like, I got shit going on now. I don't got time for that. Now, have you guys run in? She's married now with her kids. You're married with your kids. Have you guys ever run into each other at like an event? Oh, we're all still friends. And had like a, do you have like a sister?
Starting point is 00:22:37 Evan, her husband, me and Evan have been boys since he was 16 years old. We were like best buds, inseparable too. So did you just laugh about the old days? Oh, yeah, of course we do. And she loves Lex, my wife, and like they get along so well. And they came to the wedding and to the anniversary, and we still hang out. And we're still great friends with everybody. It's so interesting.
Starting point is 00:22:59 It's perfect because it's like, okay, what am I, you know, old? Like, I don't look at her like an ex-girlfriend. She was just a friend that, you know, dated when we were younger. And Evan was one of my favorite people, you know, we hung out for years and years and years. So I'm like, it's actually perfect because now I know someone I cared about is with somebody who I care about. So some people think it's weird that when people are friends with exes, like for me, it's not. It was so long ago too, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:24 It's crazy. No, it's definitely not weird. What is weird is that you have a picture of the new kids on the block in your hat. Not weird at all. I made this hat. Wait, what? I made this hat. It's on that side.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Is this just one of those Cabo Sabo things in Texas that the housewives go to? I don't know. Kimo Sabe, that's Aspen. Oh, okay. So close. No, that's just the new kids. Gotta rep. Gotta rep the boy bands.
Starting point is 00:23:45 I love it. Hilarious. Is it a playing card? It's a playing card, yeah. I got the new kids on the block playing cards. I'm like, okay, what can I put in my hat that has some sort of homage to old school boy bands? Wow. Have you ever been around them and they've seen it?
Starting point is 00:23:56 Not this hat, but, I mean, we've done shows together, yeah. But do you not – you try to play it cool when you're playing New Kids on the Block? In KOTV, you're like, no, Donnie, I'm not wearing my hat to Donnie's show. No, because I forget who – Joey, the first time we did a show together, Joey McIntyre, I was like, dude, I remember seeing you on TRL, and I had a Joey Mac shirt on because I used to always wear, like, Spice Girls, New Kids on the Block shirts, and it was a cool moment for me because the first thing he said to me, he was like, dude, I saw you on TRL,
Starting point is 00:24:23 and you were wearing me on your shirt. That's so cute. I remember thinking that was so cool. I was like, yeah, Joey McIntyre, that is so cool. You're like, I'm cool too. Okay, so you remade On the Way Down with this like star set. You made your own boy band. We did.
Starting point is 00:24:38 So who's on it? It's like the Avengers of TRL, but then also with a little current flair too. Yeah. Okay, so you got Joey. So we got Joey from NSYNC. So yeah, I've tried to pull like somebody from everybody. So we got Joey from NSYNC, AJ from the Backstreet Boys, Taylor Hansen, Drake Bell. and Nick from Walk the Moon, and then Nash from Hot Shell Ray.
Starting point is 00:24:59 So it's kind of like a gamut of old school into the middle of Hot Shell Ray and then into the new with Walk the Moon. That's so funny. It was fun. Were you all in one place at one time? No, no, no. We all did separately. So I was in the studio right up the street,
Starting point is 00:25:14 and we knew we wanted to remake a 20th anniversary version of it. Okay, how do we do it on the way down, make it current, but also not take away from the song to make it so different that people wouldn't like it anymore? and so uh we were going back and forth and doing so many versions and at one point it was like an edm version which we look back now and laugh at but at the time we're like okay maybe we do this and we couldn't really figure it out and um i was chatting with nick from walk the moon uh just about something else randomly i was like hey are you are you in la and he's like yeah i was
Starting point is 00:25:41 like i'm at my house and i was like do you want to come to the studio i'm remaking on the way down because we're kind of stuck in like where to take this song he's like yeah and so he a couple hours later he came over and then he started doing this part that was very walk the moon and i'm like that's it i was like okay that's what we do and like let's take that and just add a bunch of friends and like do what you would do to this like aj did all his aj-ness yeah of you know the run oh yeah which you never imagined in on the way down but it was cool because i was like don't don't copy what i do like taylor i want you to sound like hansen yeah singing all the way down you know drake you i want you to sound like drake singing all the way down not like me and that's
Starting point is 00:26:18 what i think makes it really cool oh it's so dope does it like what do you remember from going on trl like i think everyone's dream i wish they tried always dream they tried to reboot it it didn't work no it's not the same it'll never capture that magic it was a time tiny like the studio was small it was small yeah how many times were you on my first one was with paris hilton oh my god so i remember being you know at that time you know you're you're just young and dumb and i was like all right i want to do something because paris is there i want to do something like a skit with paris and i didn't know that you don't just come in and kind of tell people yeah tell them like how it's gonna go but that's the beauty of being young and dumb is like you
Starting point is 00:26:55 just think that's how it goes and so they were into it they're like all right so i did a thing where like i was like i'm gonna be busking outside of her dressing room in hopes to see her like i'm like a super fan or something so we put a guitar out and then she comes by and drops a dollar and then she's like that's hot oh my god hell yeah and then uh i was supposed to be in studio the first time performing and obviously a dream of every artist is to go to the window right yeah so you can and you can look down and see the window and the first time i went on they're like okay i was like when do i go to the window and they're like okay that's gonna be seg two so the first seg you're gonna go and just do an interview with uh i think vanessa and damien and uh i was
Starting point is 00:27:33 like okay but and and then go to the window and they're like okay you're gonna do an interview first go to the x but when is window time do the interview and then they'll go to commercial and then you go to the window now of course i'm blacked out because you know i'm right i'm at trl is my first time and so uh i went in and i walked right past vanessa and went straight to the window and i can hear like all the producers like okay he went to the window because the cameras weren't ready for that he went to the window he went to the window i was like fuck it i was like why not you know there's all those people down there i was like that's so cool now were they there for you or for paris hilton they were actually there for me all the time and they were there for like
Starting point is 00:28:07 hours because i went by the night before just because you know you're trying to see like are people going to show up you never know like it would be like a small little crowd or if it's gonna be a big thing and people were there like through the night and whatnot so i was like i want to perform down there because why am i going to be up here when all those people waited you know for like yeah through the night to be out there and they're like can we do that and then they figured it out so they ran a wire down and i just put a mic in the middle of the crowd um and so if like you ever look at the very first time it was actually in the crowd it wasn't supposed to be like that and they did it and just did it acoustic it was fun wow you know trl your
Starting point is 00:28:43 trl crowd was the millennials instagram following yeah you know what i mean like before there was social media to be like well how many followers do they have yeah it would be like well how big of a crowd can they draw at trl like are we gonna have to shut down 50 street 51st street like how many police are we gonna have to hire fans like brian reynolds just did yeah you know and actually i will say i was gonna tell you you're so shady i was gonna tell you that my my husband's in the music business and he actually has hired fans for events like that they hire sometimes they'll hire fans for the today show yeah that's why i was asking were they really there for you because like if if you're not sure if you're scared that enough people know well everything's fake people
Starting point is 00:29:22 buy streams people buy instagram followers like then but back then they wouldn't have thought no that was so pure now the manipulation of the music business is so insane that they'll like be like oh we better make sure we have a hundred people with your sign outside the today show but like back that i think that's what made trl so special is that you couldn't get access like if you were a fan of yours you could see your music video on tv after school you'd run home and you could see you live in concert and when you went to trl that's it so if you wanted to see you in real life you had to skip school you had to sleep out all night that was i mean like for us special it was that was what was cool about the reality shows then yeah because it kind
Starting point is 00:30:02 of gave you a glimpse into like your personality so for me like being on that show I kind of got people got to know me and Ashley because that was when reality tv was real real and like they didn't give us scripts they didn't tell us what to do they just followed us around cameras so whatever happened happened so fans I was you know kind of like social media they got to see who you were because I don't I don't think if if I wasn't on that show and fans I kind of got to know me there who knows if I would have even sold any records was that Joe Simpson's idea for like newlyweds and then it was I remember when he came with the idea it's him and Rod Asa they they came I was like okay we're gonna do a show about Jess and Nick and I was like well that's not gonna work
Starting point is 00:30:46 like not not to say but they was like it's just a show following Jessica and Nick like I've hung out with Jessica and Nick they're kind of just like super chill and real you know like there's not really and i think the same about me and ashley at the time i was like we're kind of boring at least we thought you know yeah and not like jess and nick are boring but they turned it on for the show so when we when he came home and showed us the the pilot i was like i get it now yeah yeah at first i was so skeptical i was like that's gonna be terrible like they're boring and and nick will say the same thing you know he was saying the same thing at the time well nick was boring on that show he was like i want to watch football and hang shelves he was like
Starting point is 00:31:20 but that's like what made it good reality of it yeah the juxtaposition of him being like we need to budget and her being like i spent a thousand dollar in panties like that was just so funny because there's such opposites yeah it was very relatable but that's yeah and that and it works and so that's what joe was like yo we should do one for ashley and then you know you guys just do your thing and then it blew up and that's how people got to know us and i think that's why we're successful did you ever think you had to like turn it on for the show because you know that was just us but i mean there was times even when we were like boring like it was still funny somehow i never saw the show but i think from what i had gathered i've seen some clips i've
Starting point is 00:32:00 never seen it only clips but the clips i saw were pretty funny and my wife why did you not watch it valentine's day episode i guess you never want to watch it uh i've never seen it no i didn't really watch we were too busy no but would you watch it now like i'd watch it now just because i think it'd be funny you should do like a re-watch podcast i don't know where it is i don't think it's out like i don't know where you could even watch it yeah you know joe probably has it on like a DVD somewhere. MTV's probably got it somewhere. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:25 They're so dumb that they're not putting all those shows up on Paramount Plus or whatever. That's so true. Oh my God, people would be binging the hell out of those.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Yeah. So true. Okay. I heard it was funny though. It was. You were very lovable. Like, I mean, everyone had a crush on you.
Starting point is 00:32:38 That's why we're a little sweaty right now. Okay, when we come back, more with Ryan. Idiot. You're listening to The Lady Gang. All right, we're back.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Now, you're married, you're a daddy, new daddy yeah but i want to take you back to debauchery so yeah it wasn't that long ago when you got super famous very recognizable person well the hair was the hair was recognizable what is what is there a story you can tell us that's legal to tell us of like your biggest debauchery oh um well yeah the the good ones that's why you know a lot of friends are always like because we've been been through a lot and uh they're like dude you should write a book or like tell stories on TikTok or whatever. I was like, the good stuff, like I can't tell because my
Starting point is 00:33:27 mother, you know, but I mean, she knows, she knows I've always been kind of wild. I mean, I've been left a lot of places I've missed, you know, a lot of flights and buses and, um, oh my gosh, there was one. Oh no, I can't tell that one. Yeah. Cause yeah. Some of the nowadays would be, there was never anything like bad or like weird, but obviously, you know, How old were you when you blew up? Like the TRL moment. Oh, my God. Yeah, when life wasn't on the road, I just lived right up the street of Van Nuys,
Starting point is 00:34:02 and that house we called The Factory was straight debauchery, but in a fun way. Like we never – I was very lucky. We never got into drugs. We just – we drank a lot. Yeah. But we never, like, got, like, weird, weird. Yeah. Did anything, like – I've never done, like, other than weed.
Starting point is 00:34:18 But there were, like, lots – there was lots of girls. Lots of girls. yeah i used to throw naughty or nice parties what's a naughty or nice party you come dressed naughty or nice oh should we have that lady majority was very naughty yeah i would assume i would have to think on the debauchery that you could actually tell but i mean i remember what's funny is we were talking about it yesterday actually my guitar player we'd always know like if he had just hooked up with a girl because he used to spray tenactin tough actin tenactin like for athlete's foot on his
Starting point is 00:34:47 PP. Wait, why? Because he was convinced that that's what was keeping him from getting STDs. So we'd go on the bus and if you'd hear he'd be like, oh. He just hooked up. He swore by it. Can you even spray that on your dick?
Starting point is 00:35:02 He did every time. And he's like, never got anything. Oh, wait. Don't do this at home, young listeners. That's hilarious. But it was funny. What do you think about like what do you think about the debauchery days makes you a great husband now i've been through it you know you gotta that's you know you gotta experience all the life because then if you don't
Starting point is 00:35:24 then that's when i think people like cheat or yeah they're like if you hadn't got like i've i waited a long time to get married because one to get all that out of my system but then obviously you're waiting for the right one so you're not you know getting married divorced but i got it i got it out up until i was about like 30 when did i meet my wife in 2019 so about so i was like till like maybe like 35 was kind of when um that makes sense right up until i met my wife but like a fuck boy not that i'm calling you a boy but like a boy can change their stripes they just have to be ready and you can't force it and i had my experiences of being a being i was never asshole but you know i had the mindset of like if they don't know it doesn't hurt you know like
Starting point is 00:36:08 that's how i was in my late 20s and i because of that that turned me into the the most like i would i stopped lying i'd never lie it again you know because i was i never saw the it never led to anything good so i always told the truth whether they want it or not sometimes to a fault where i was like why are you telling me that because i i believe in like you should know everything you should i'm putting it out there because this was my life and this is what i went through um but that because of that I became a great husband because I don't lie I don't need to I don't you know if I do something whatever I'm gonna let you know and then you can let me know if you don't like it whatever and then I'll never cheat you know again because I've been there
Starting point is 00:36:45 done that and I saw what happened so yeah I did change you know I was never I wasn't like I only cheated on one girlfriend um but that was because well I had gotten cheated on and then my mind went too well if this is you know it didn't work out so me and ash broke up because she thought i cheated but i didn't so she wanted me to apologize for cheating i was like i had too much pride like i didn't cheat though so i'm not going to apologize for something i didn't do um and so i didn't and then we had to break it up so that after that my mindset was like well it's not going to work out anyway might as well and it was young and dumb and yeah i got it out of my system and then learn from that i learned from my mistakes i'm lucky to have that ability to learn
Starting point is 00:37:24 from my mistakes and now you have a daughter in your i know karma yeah but she's awesome she's the coolest person no the karma will be the boys that pick her up the like musicians that are playing her music and i'm still like so naive i'm like i'm gonna be friends with them i'm gonna go to like parties with her and she's gonna yeah she's gonna want me to go everywhere because i'm the cool dad and i know it's not gonna happen but still in my mind i'm gonna be like no i'm i'm cool check this out your mom's cool too like but she knows that like it's not gonna happen that way no what is it like like it's interesting because a lot of times like these musician couples end up together but you've ended up with a wife who's famous in a completely different arena like
Starting point is 00:38:03 when i see online the videos of you go to now this is not my world but is it like wrestlemania that is like the super bowl okay but when she goes in these like she's in massive arenas and like people are like ryan cabrera who they want to kill me really what is that like what i mean And she's a superstar, right? Those fans are the most intense fans. We call them passionate. They're really passionate. And a lot of them take it a little too far when it comes to us and our family, which is why we don't post our mother's face because we're kind of worried about that.
Starting point is 00:38:35 She has a lot of stalkers who think that she's married to them and that our marriage isn't real and that they're a kid and the kid's not really mine. They think that it's all real. they they do they believe in the characters which you know shows a lot about the character that they believe them but yeah some of them take it a little too far we're already doing that when you met do what wrestling yeah yeah she'd been wrestling for her like nine years damn we have me at a show um no we met because uh there's somebody started a rumor online that we were dating no way out of nowhere well so we got down because we were trying to figure that out we're like where did this come from so i was on a show on uh called mrs and mrs on the usa network with
Starting point is 00:39:16 And Miz is a WWE wrestler. We've been friends since before he was wrestling. He was actually probably my first friend in L.A., but right after he did The Real World. And because I was on that show, which is a wrestling show, our team, I think, started following a lot of the wrestlers and liking a lot of their stuff. Particularly, so the guy that was running our Twitter was, I think, a fan of the girls. So I think he started particularly liking everything that Alexa Bliss was doing. and so their fans look at everything and they see that and so they we think that they saw that and they're like they must be dating yeah because ryan cabrera's liking all of her stuff meanwhile
Starting point is 00:39:53 i had no idea so i do my instagram i don't really do that because i'm not like a big social media person like i you know i just like to live in the moment play music write music and do that kind of thing but i'll do the instagram because i think that's fun but so he was doing the twitter thing and then that so it was from your account that was liking all the things it was my account that's so great i mean thank god he did it i mean we had to fire him obviously because it was a little weird and i'm like you gotta represent me why are you liking every single thing and she even noticed it and she tells me now like at the time she was showing some of her girlfriends in the locker room look at this douchebag what a weirdo she at the time thought i was married to ashley
Starting point is 00:40:30 so she was like this ryan cabrera guy is married to ashley simpson keeps liking like all my stuff and she screenshotted it was like look at this like like like like like and shown with all the other girls I was like how embarrassing that she actually thought like I was like obsessed with her so and so Mike called me and I was like yo I heard you're dating Alexa Bliss and I didn't know who that was at the time so I was like what's that and he's like no it's one of our wrestlers I thought it was like a clothing brand or something and he's like no it's one of our wrestlers I was like I was like is she cool he's like yeah she's awesome I was like why don't you hook your boy up I'll sing all the time I was like hook your boy up he's like well next time
Starting point is 00:40:57 she's in LA like I'll connect you guys which he didn't but we started talking just on the line um and then uh i was on a plane to orlando to play at epcot and then i was like it's been lovely talking i was talking to the whole plane ride we had like mutual friends like all the stuff in common we both love disney we both love boy bands you know we were friends with like bowling for soup who wrote a song about her and so we were like having the best conversation we both like breakfast is our favorite meal like all that like silly kind of stuff yeah and uh it felt like young and cute i was like this girl is actually really cool i was like well it's been really nice hopefully you know we chat again i'm playing at epcot you know it's this weekend so i
Starting point is 00:41:36 gotta get off and she's like i live in orlando and i was like what are you doing tomorrow night wow the first day was coming to watch you play she came watch me totally no sold me no it did not see that she was like not impressed you're super quiet and i was like really after the show like so do you want to like go like whatever go bowl you know hang out or something she's like no i gotta get home it's getting kind of late no and she's like it's like 7 30 like what huh and so she and your magical person work on her well they did in the long run they worked off she was making you work long game she was yeah she's faking it or is it real she really want to go home or she was faking it no she was just like not she was in her like i'm independent i
Starting point is 00:42:19 don't need a guide kind of phase she just you know got well a year earlier gotten out of like a five-year relationship so i was like i'm just gonna focus on work and me and and so and i was you know going for i was like well you know we should hang out again and um we ended up going like my first like real date like a daytime date because i used to just like bring girls around my friends i was that so i always like did the test yeah yeah i never did like not a real day one-on-one and then hang out i never did the one-on-one thing because i was like it could be a waste of time and so i'd always have a girl just come hang out with me and my friends if you could get along with me and my friends then then we can hang you know for real i know dude don't make me hang out with
Starting point is 00:42:59 your friends i have friends who are like serial daters and they go on like five five dates a week and then never hang out like what a waste of time i like the front the preliminary friend like a friend hang for the first time and then if you like them yeah come on on a real date yes yeah okay so i was all because i wanted to see if they could hang okay because if they weren't cool hanging with because you know i'm that was your life like it was it was how it was a test for me because then if they couldn't hang and then and get along with my friends and i'm like it's gonna be a waste of my time anyway yeah i've just done the dates where it's like you're always just being around the friends and there's no one yeah always forever if they could hang then it would that was
Starting point is 00:43:38 that makes sense so she we hung out one-on-one we went and saw last christmas like a movie during the day we chatted through like the entire movie i was like okay this is kind of cool cute and then we started following each other well everywhere i was going like literally that next weekend i was going to chicago to do the thanksgiving day parade and she was in chicago doing raw and then i had to fly to new york to do like a video and she was in new york doing seven times in a row we were in the same city and so i was like you can't avoid me i was like now you have to hang out with me and so then it just and then we never stopped hanging out since then oh i love that sweet well speaking of hanging out before we let you go we have to talk about
Starting point is 00:44:16 us all hanging out at the lady world festival oh my gosh i saw i'm so excited so i actually did you even know you were going i what's that did you know you were going i did yeah i saw that when i first saw it because well because me and lex love like we we binge watch a lot of trash reality shows so we're like okay who do we know on this one we're like okay we like her we love her we love her and so we were but then my buddy's wedding like a good buddy that i work with and like his wedding is that weekend or whatever that date was and i saw i was like so normally if it was this is like a year ago i'm like i'm gonna have to cancel a show and then i saw it was the lady rose i was like sorry but i can't make the wedding i'm like i'm not canceling that
Starting point is 00:44:54 show i'm too excited about it we'll send him a gift we'll send him a really nice gift yeah it'll be fine all the merch you want yeah so i saw i was like i'm not canceling that one that looks way too fun is your wife gonna come uh i don't know if i hope so but she might have to go to the wedding to represent to rep for the two of us because he works with her as well but i mean i don't know maybe i know she she wants like when she saw it she was really excited about it yeah and the lineup is great too like everybody playing is good yeah it's all like we basically wanted like you can probably attest to this you have a different kind of life but like in your 20s when everyone well you had a very different life but in our 20s when we were just young there was
Starting point is 00:45:36 a lot of like bridal shower wedding shower bachelorette birthdays like people went on trips for their birthday or they had and you saw your friends a lot and then as you get older especially now that you have a kid you're gonna fall into this like as you get older you just kind of like your best friend becomes your significant other and you really stop like doing friend things like big trips like that like it takes a wedding or something so we wanted to like make something that was like very but there's a lot of girl retreats or like women's sort of based retreats But it's, like, in order to lose weight or get better or make more money. And we were, like, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:46:09 We want you to just come to, like, have fun. And pretend to be 20 again. Pretend to be 20. And so when we went and we were, like, Jack was, like, we should do, like, nostalgia music. And we're, like, well, what? And then we just started thinking about, like, all of our celebrity millennial boy crushes. And the fact that y'all sometimes tour together. I know you do a lot of shows on your own.
Starting point is 00:46:30 But the fact that, like, you can. Well, we've been on that, like, the Pop 2000 tour we've been doing for six years now. wait probably longer it started after 2015 so 2016 what are we now oh my god nine years wow what started out as just so we did it with 98 degrees first like the my gk tour and then me in otown after that tour we're like dude this was really fun like we should because we shared a bus we're like we should just keep this going just see how it goes and now it's nine years later we're still doing and we had mark sugar ray on tour with us and now we have bb mac so now it's like it kind of so it's always me in otown um right now chris kirkpatrick's our host yeah um
Starting point is 00:47:03 It was Lance in the beginning and then now Chris, but so, and then we'll intertwine out some different nostalgia bands. So it's like still going. So that's like, we're like, we're just not going to stop. No, it's the best thing ever. And women will always love it. So can we always want to hear it? And my wife's like, okay, no matter what, like you have to get all the goss from, she'll
Starting point is 00:47:20 pick out certain people. Yes. She'll say like, I'm friends with like certain people from the show. She's like, have to find out what's going on. Find Ariana, get a photo. She's like, if you have to leave, you have to come home with information. Yes. With the tea.
Starting point is 00:47:32 specifically yeah because me and jacks were talking about grabbing lunch she's like you need to find out all the gossip with jacks like oh my god i love it i love it i was like what you're like men don't do that she's dead she's dead serious i'm like yeah we don't really but i'll see what i can do like men literally we should have her on too but um my my thing is i want to know what ryan cabrera songs am i getting at your show i know you change it but like what am i getting just we do a mix of everything we do all that we do well what hits of yours so we do true we do on the way down we do shine on um and then we do a new one we'll probably start playing the newer version of on the way down and then we do like a medley of
Starting point is 00:48:07 like kick back to like late 90s 2000s i do like a little homage to johnny resnick because he produced my first album so i do a little goo goo doll stuff we do some one direction oh i'm so excited i didn't know that oh yeah do you remember that johnny resnick video where he's in the rain in chicago the outdoors and he's singing oh wait is it the live version yes and he's just wet yeah yeah he's in buffalo oh that was live and bubbly yeah so good what a moment okay well we're so excited to see you at lady world you guys go follow ryan uh it's just ryan cabrera you're probably already following him um and let's go celebrate the 20th anniversary the whole album is just the song the whole album you remastered right no we just did that so i
Starting point is 00:48:48 I think I'm going to redo true, but make it like a new, I'm going to rewrite the lyrics for Hendrix because when she was in the womb, that was like the song I'd always sing for her. So now when it comes on, like she's like, let me just tell you something. My best friend, Christina Perry did a lot of songs and then now has done four lullaby records since she started having children. It's so fun. People need cooler lullabies.
Starting point is 00:49:10 That's what they're good at. There are no cool lullabies. I started with like the Jewel one, Jewel, like when she was a baby, baby Jewel made like a lullaby album and then now i'm doing like see it uh which i don't know if the happy song was meant to be i don't think so a little by a kid song but it just it works and it makes them happy you should do a singer song i want to in the guitar yeah like my style but like for so that way the parents like okay that you know this is actually tolerable yeah yeah but it's like like christina and hers did she she writes an original on each one and then she does like a beetle song
Starting point is 00:49:40 a bubblegum song i didn't know she did one i gotta do her own little way but it's like her voice millions and i mean like 400 million streams or something like it's insane yeah i've thought about that too so that's why with true your daddy i'm gonna do it yeah all the songs but like with with my voice my style and just yeah i agree let's do it and you could even oh my god i have to give you credit no no no that's like it started here but i am a success coach consultant i can always tell people what they should do next in their careers and it always works usually but also you should do boy band songs because that's a good idea the person that's your fan that's having their children now would love to hear would love to hear an o-town a back
Starting point is 00:50:19 street uh you know like a few country things you know what i mean but like a soft one version i'm in for it yeah i want it that way a little by version dude i want it that way it's such a pretty song when you like strip it down yeah that's a great idea yeah okay i'll take one to be I'll do like an NSYNC song yeah you can even do some of like the one hit wonders of that era like do you remember Iga Cherry oh yeah yeah it's all one hit wonders the lullaby version girls songs too like you know how what's his face did fast car just new yeah oh yeah yeah like that like you know it's a whole new agenda okay anyway if it comes out before lady world you cannot cancel lady world you already know if I'm not
Starting point is 00:51:02 I can't slay for everybody's wedding. I'm not canceling for nothing. Okay. We'll see you there. And we will see you next Tuesday.
