Starting point is 00:00:52 to speak to an advisor free of charge. BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin, here with Kelty Knight and Jack Vanek. Hey. Hey. That's really enthusiastic.
Starting point is 00:01:38 I'm just sick of seeing you guys every day. Okay, well, we are going to be doing this for a long time, so maybe don't admit that, you know? Maybe pretend. We haven't seen each other in like a couple days. Also, we haven't had a break from each other. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:01:50 This is like the least we've seen each other in the past like six months. That's true. That's true. You know? So, sorry for your loss. Your disappointment. All right. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Now it's time for... Good week. Yes, it is. Bad week. Oh, no. Who wants to start? I'll start. Oh.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Wow. Somebody actually... Sorry. Somebody was, like, saying they love good week, bad week because it's always, who wants to start in Kelty? I'll start. Okay. But I feel like I never start.
Starting point is 00:02:16 You always start. You almost always start. And then the few times that you don't start, you're like, did you guys notice that I didn't jump like jump on oh really but start guys dicks okay anyway um good week i went to the grove which i never do and i was picking up some supplies and i got recognized what kind of supplies five times in 52 minutes were you wearing an et hat i was wearing no lady gang merch no et merch i was wearing shorts a tank top a pair of sneakers and a sunglass and a top bun five times was it 52 minutes were one of them chris no it was no one i knew was all lady gang fans stopping me and the
Starting point is 00:02:59 grove stopping me in stores i love the lady i love the lady i know it never happens to us like this that's not i think five times in 50 minutes is out of control 52 not 15 still a lot it's a lot And it was, like, also, like, a weekend morning, which I thought was aggressive. But I think – here's the thing. I think you guys are cool. And so people feel like they can't approach you. I was just going to say that. But I think people know –
Starting point is 00:03:24 I don't think she's making eye contact with any girl who looks like she might look good to the lady. I'm not making eye contact with them, but I think because I'm a loser, people feel like it will be, like, less scary to approach me. And I – girls, you are correct. Bring it on. Come shower your lady love all over me. And you can keep ignoring me. Although I love what happened to me the other day at the Hollywood Bowl. I literally was standing there waiting for Zach to get out of the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:03:50 And all this girl did was walk by. And she goes, I love you, Becca Tobin. And she was like a Lady Gang fan. But she didn't stop. She didn't hug me. It was great. Okay. Just yell at me.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Becca wants a drive-by and I want your life story. Don't actually come up to Becca. Just yell at her from afar. A drive-by works. Exactly. Bad week. So I'm at the Coffee Bean and I'm getting a coffee. And he was like, oh, what's your name?
Starting point is 00:04:09 And I said, Kelty. and I go K-E-L-T-I-E to spell it and he goes oh oh yeah no I've never heard Kelty before but I've heard Selty a lot a lot I was like my name instead of a K with an S he's like Selty no people use it all the time
Starting point is 00:04:24 and I was like I feel like he meant like something else and got tripped up by my beauty or like I don't know my fame maybe he was a lady gang listener I don't know because like have you ever A. have you ever heard the name Selty No.
Starting point is 00:04:38 S-E-L-T-I. I've never heard Kelty before. But also, it's just in Starbucks culture to mess people's names up. So maybe he was just, did you say you're at Starbucks? No, Coffee Bean. I was at Coffee Bean where they always get my name right. But for him to be like, oh, Kelty, that's weird. You know what's more normal?
Starting point is 00:04:52 Selty. That's like when I get Jaff. J-A-F-F. Like, that's a name. Jaff is good. Jaff is so good. Jaff. I love Jaff.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I wish you were a woman named Jeff. Does anyone know a woman named Jeff? I'm going to name my kid Jeff. I love a dog named Jeff. Oh, yeah. Jeff's such a good name. I'm so mad Chris made me name. Well, he didn't make me name, but I really wanted Callie to have, like, a human name because I was inspired by your love of Beth.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Yeah. But she just didn't fit any of the human names. Oh, but you've got to go, like, really obscure, strange. Julia. Yeah. Or really, really basic, like Susan. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Who's calling you? A friend. Okay. Is it your turn? Go ahead. I'm going. Okay. So here's my good week.
Starting point is 00:05:43 I found a new term. Ooh, I love a new term. It's not a dictionary word. It's a new term like ghosting and all those cool things that all the young kids are saying. Okay. Have you heard of foldering? What? Foldering.
Starting point is 00:05:58 It's kind of like you're putting somebody in the folder to go through later. No. It's way darker than that. Oh, God. when people are cheating and having an affair what they do is they create an email for both of them to share and they write each other but only in drafts because nothing actually ever gets sent through the internet super highway so it's like if i share an email address with you i'm going to folder it yeah and put it in drafts the thing that i write to you yeah then you
Starting point is 00:06:26 you delete that and then you respond to me in a draft but draft my mind is blown drafts save like time stamps it doesn't matter about time stamps it's literally it's the easiest thing to get rid of and have it disappear forever because think about like no but i'm saying like in my email where i have drafts i can go and it'll like have five different of my draft i guess if you delete them yeah they delete them there that has to be saved on the iCloud somewhere I'm sure it is, but your significant other isn't finding that. That is so sketchy. Even if your significant other finds a secret email address, there's going to be literally
Starting point is 00:07:00 nothing there. And then if you're emailing back and forth from your real one, how cryptic. I mean, it's just so messed up if you have to go to foldering extent. I'm like, maybe you should just get a divorce. Sounds a little bit better. Okay. Bad week. Okay, here's my bad week.
Starting point is 00:07:20 i this is so embarrassing i went to my gyno got my pap smear i completely forgot the other tampon no that i have not like groomed and looking down at my vajayjay because i got the um hair removal i'm like patchy but i never get like a bush yeah always like just kind of like sparse whatever yeah but like i go and i'm like okay i go to my whatever she's like a little bit like when i open my legs like okay we're doing your thing i felt a different energy you know what i mean she just knew i go home and i'm like looking at my vajayjay i'm like maybe i should it's time to like trim up or get a wax or whatever and i like look down and i actually do the full look not the like straight down the body look yeah you like have a mirror in
Starting point is 00:08:15 look the length of the hair around like my taint it's so long and it's so like wiry it is the grossest thing i have neglected my vagina because zach was out of town then i was on my period the week before that so it was like too many weeks of like not sex time pushing it back and i'm like no wonder she was got quiet all the sudden i looked like an 80 year old man was like in the stirrups but they have to see that all the time but it looked actually creepy to me it looked extra creepy like the do you know what i mean and it's like patchy no that's how mine is too because well and mine's also just blonde hair that grows because the laser oh it's so hard to have blonde taint hair well no because i lasered off my dark hair yes the only thing that comes is blonde and
Starting point is 00:09:09 Like, wiry hair. It looks like I'm growing bangs on my taint. I completely understand. I know that that's, like, I don't know. It was mortifying. Like, I couldn't think of anything worse to have happen to me. And, you know, you go through the rest of your day thinking, like, what was she thinking? Is she ever going to look at me the same again?
Starting point is 00:09:28 I get very self-conscious about what my gynecologist is thinking of my vagina. It's really gross. I could think worse things, I think. All right. My good week is, I saw this article about- Just pause. I'm sorry, you guys. That whole time, I was like-
Starting point is 00:09:44 No, no, no, I'm sorry. No, and you think it's like, but it's like so distracting for us, too. I'm very sorry. Okay. And I kept being like, am I going to stop? Am I not? Okay, Jax. Okay, my good week is, I found an article about Tony Hawk, and he basically just tweets
Starting point is 00:10:01 anytime anybody recognizes him or doesn't recognize him or misrecognizes him. i love this so when he's on the plane like a flight attendant will be like or when he's checking into something they'll be like oh anthony hawk oh my god tony hawk's my favorite skater ever and he's like yeah he seems pretty cool and they're like hmm you don't look like him at all or like everything that anybody says that's like a total dick move he's a skateboarder yeah he's like the most famous skateboarder i mean listen it's not a sport i'm watching but at least i knew But, like, most people know who Tony Hawk is. I know, like, he's famous.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I wouldn't know what he looked like. I wouldn't know what he looked like. He's also a lot older now. Oh, okay. Or people would be like, you just look like an older Tony Hawk or something like that. Wow. And he, like, tweets about it, and it's amazing, and I love him. That's great.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Yeah. We should start doing that. Kelsey, you should start doing that. At the Grove, you would have had so many tweets. Don't have to ask me twice. Like, fine, done. People are recognizing me. My bad week is I just found out about this thing, but it has existed for a long time.
Starting point is 00:10:58 It's called Shoeys, and it's where people take their shoes off, pour a drink in them, and drink it. And it is my worst nightmare. Did you do it? No. Will you try one? Like at a bar? Yeah. That's so gross.
Starting point is 00:11:11 People used to do it, I guess, for hazing. It started in Australia, but now it's turning into this internet thing that everybody's doing. And somebody on my Instagram story did it, and I unfollowed them immediately. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard. Question. For our 200th episode, will you do a Shoey? If we all do a Shoey. Are we going to exchange shoes?
Starting point is 00:11:29 No, it's shoe. People take the shoe off of their stinky, disgusting, sweaty foot, pour a beer into it and chug it. No, no, that's gross. When is our 200th episode? It's coming soon. Is it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I'll do a shoeie if you, somebody pays me like a shoe sponsor and a beer sponsor. Other than that, no shoes for me. Oh my God. Okay. Good week guys. It was a good week. What's coming up? Shit's going good.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Um, well, I, we're getting sad. I'm trying to think of, like, something about a kiss. A kiss. Okay, just that. Okay. That's my tease. Cool. It's terrible.
Starting point is 00:12:09 I just got unrecognized by Jack and Becca. Goodbye. You're listening to The Lady Gang. When our guest today created her self-named beauty brand in 2005, it was based on a personal problem she desperately wanted to solve. Honey had some chapped lips. After reading Exfoliate Your Lips with a Washcloth or Toothbrush for the 20th time, knowing that she had a scrub for every part of her body but her lips,
Starting point is 00:12:34 she decided to just make it herself because that's what you've got to do in our world. You go, girl. She has since expanded her brand to include lip masks, scrub, balms, and they are all not tested on animals and made in the USA. And more, she does this all while finding time for the best late-night daily self-care ever. More on that soon. and being a mom to her beautiful unicorn daughter, Julia. Please welcome to the podcast, Sarah Happ.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Hi, girls. Hi. Hey. I'm so happy to be here. Oh, wow. Look at all of us. So busy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Oh, my God. That's so funny. Okay. First of all, I want to start not even with the business, but I do want to start with this self-care ritual you have. Yeah. Ooh, tell me. A nightly bubble bath is what I read.
Starting point is 00:13:21 What? Yes, it is very indulgent. It is. But you know what it is? if i have five minutes i take a bubble bath if i have an hour i take a bubble bath so it does it doesn't have to be a long thing it's just this mental reset the way some people like meditate so for me like really all i go to hotels and i'm like i just have to have a bathtub that's my criteria do you have like a go-to like bath bomb or like anything special are we a bomber are we a
Starting point is 00:13:46 glitter bomber how are you not getting a yeast what do i do i love you so no i'm not i have super sensitive skin yeah like major which i think a lot of women do um so i am an aracasia like lavender oil supernatural like food grade but don't eat it yeah and um and then philosophy purity makes this really yummy body wash that's just like unscented but you can like smell it and it's so clean it's so lovely and that's what i do i'm just confused though of how you have time to do this in your life because you're running this like mega company and then have a daughter and that feels like I feel like I don't have enough time like the first thing to go right for sure okay so what I don't do is watch tv I literally watch there you go well we're screwed
Starting point is 00:14:30 no I don't watch one show and that's it right so like this that takes the place picture that takes the place of my tv right so if you're not watching tv you probably can find an hour what's your one show that you're watching though what tv is that important um it's called green leaf and it's on Oprah Winfrey's network yeah yeah and it is like so incredibly dramatic it's about the church in like Memphis corruption in humans being human and it's kind of awesome okay huh so that's my one show but okay that's even only like 45 minutes and that's pretty crazy now yeah um I'm a type and I don't know how to relax yeah so when I go into the bathtub yeah I like oh I like to Take my phone, make a list, watch an episode of Queer Eye, read my book, and if I don't get through a full chapter, I'm, like, disappointed in myself.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Then I'm looking over at, like, my toiletries, and I'm like, they could really use an organizing. Like, how do you, like, turn off your brain when you are this self-made entrepreneur lady? You're so cute. So that's just when I turn off my brain. Like, I'm the girl who can't do yoga without thinking about a million things. Yoga's the worst. Right? So, like, you have to have something, though, that you do.
Starting point is 00:15:39 What do you do, Kelty? I don't. And that's why I like it. She literally doesn't. And that's why you're here right now. I'm losing my mind right now. I mean, I do love a bubble bath. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:48 So I was wondering, like, about that. But I like to read as well. Okay. So reading is what I come in with. I just, I think it's like you just have to focus and commit. Yeah. Commit to unplugging. Five minutes, 40 minutes, just be like, no, this is my moment.
Starting point is 00:15:59 I just get so hot in a bubble bath. I love that, though. And pruney. And then I just like, ugh. I love it. I feel like I'm sweating out toxins. I feel like I'm, like, resetting. sauna girl i'm a hot yoga girl i'm a sauna and hot yoga girl for some reason a bubble bath it's
Starting point is 00:16:13 like my hand i just don't like it i can't do it not for me but it sounds amazing i got you another thing i read about you true or not true i don't know is that you have a social media strategy where you only follow accounts that spark joy yes i follow like that like i follow i think i keep it under 140 always that's crazy what's your fave to follow ali webb We love her. We just had her on. Yeah, she's amazing. She is one of my closest girlfriends, and she just is so real with what she puts out there.
Starting point is 00:16:45 So whether it's fantastic, happy content, or it's like, I'm having a hard time, it sparks joy. So I think a lot of people have that, like, social media, like, dysmorphia. Like, my life isn't perfect. Why isn't everything perfect? I want to look at your image, and, like, it has to make me feel better. Even if it's not a happy image, it at least makes me feel like, oh, Ally's having a rough day. i love you girl yeah yeah or your images just make me so happy like jay cruz posts always make me happy so what happens because you kind of have a cult following of your products and like a lot
Starting point is 00:17:14 of celebrities so i'm sure when like a celeb like posts about your thing you're like well i want to follow them but what if all they do is post bikini photos and then you feel bad about yourself it's a no follow the answer is no it has even if it's like i know beyonce's photos are great but even if it's somebody that's like on that level you still would be like no thank you they have to spark joy beyonce does happen to spark an incredible amount of joy in me but i can tell you there are people who like yeah i see their boobs and i'm like man i adore you as a human being but your boobs make me feel bad about my boobs so i'm not gonna follow yes that is why well but like i love you as a human being you're amazing but like every time i look at your boobs
Starting point is 00:17:52 i think of mine yeah i think that there's a whole wave of that happening in social media where people are actually starting to unfollow yeah accounts that make them feel bad about themselves where before i feel like every single person followed kylie jenner just because every single person follows kylie jenner like you had to yeah like it was like you needed to know what you didn't know or you had to know certain things like i just i think it can be a real mind yeah mind issue if you her phone's not working fun fact sarah has brought her unicorn julia here middle name hello do you like our pink room it is such a fun pink room it looks like your room in here maddie do you think you could do phone help oh yeah i'm on can we do phone help i love this
Starting point is 00:18:35 because it was so funny because we were just talking about bubble baths and i was to help you hi i'm sarah nice to meet you i'm so happy you're finally here i've been like so excited to get you i've been so excited to be here too yes yes yes hi girls okay so we're back we're talking about social media and sparking joy yeah for me i love the mute button and i have now perfectly curated my instagram where it's only home decor which i love it tiny dogs and like fashion and fat and these girls lady gang but like also fashion that i love like not yeah that i can't have that fashion because i was following a whole lot of like fashion week people and fashion bloggers that like have this lifestyle i can't even like it right now like a nordstrom fashion
Starting point is 00:19:16 I follow, like, a Nordstrom, like, I need all the chunky sweaters for fall. All the chunky knits. All the gray. And you got them at Forever 21 for $29. So when they're not around next year, so I'm not mad, you know? Yes. Yeah, I love that. I really, I think that's the best way for my emotionally, I'm emotional, and that's
Starting point is 00:19:34 the best way for my emotions to manage social media. And that's a happy place. It's not, like, work. Like, your email, who knows what's going to be in your email, right? I need my social media to be my happy, curated place. I love this so much. Smart. So, you were talking about bubble baths and how this is, like, your ritual at night.
Starting point is 00:19:49 And I wanted to ask Jack and Becca if you have, like, one thing, like, Sarah's bubble bath. She's like, no matter what, if it's five minutes or an hour, I'm going to give myself that. I smoke weed. I was going to say, I smoke weed and watch Curb Your Enthusiasm. Everybody knows that. I actually can't go to sleep unless I've had at least, like, five minutes of TV time, weirdly. Me too. Okay, got it.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Because it, like, gets me out of my brain. Me and Sarah are my best friends. I have to escape and I have to get out of my brain and turning TV on is the first thing that will do that for me see, whatever it is that's your thing back in the day
Starting point is 00:20:27 you have to take your phone out of the room for three hours, you have to watch no TV so you can turn your mind off but I'm the exact same that is how I turn my mind off by just putting something mindless in front of me when you're in the bathtub though
Starting point is 00:20:41 do you not start thinking about all the things Kelsey was saying that that happens to her. She was saying that she begins like organizing her bathroom and like making her, your phone is there. All of a sudden you have like 500 more emails that you thought you had to write. No, like no. The only time my phone is ever in the bathtub with me is if I'm like, if I have a really killer bubble going and I want to Instagram it and I'm like, look at this, look at what
Starting point is 00:21:04 just happened with this oil. That's great. But no, I just, that's how I unplug. And I, that's just my moment. Yeah. What is with this ring that's on your finger? Oh, it's dirty. That's what's with it.
Starting point is 00:21:13 it's glorious isn't it so beautiful at Becca's hand right now thank you it's just this shining moment my husband designed it which is like
Starting point is 00:21:20 I can't even handle this and the gold band I know yeah cause like I don't ever wear silver same it should be gold yeah
Starting point is 00:21:27 and I was anti-engagement ring oh and he she was also anti-wedding funny enough okay got it he's like I know what you want he read my mind now
Starting point is 00:21:35 thank you I love it it's like it's so cute if you guys could see it it's like the most everybody's seen it we've all
Starting point is 00:21:42 seen it Sarah i could literally design it in my sleep i know it's okay so let's talk about your connection to britney spears this is very important to me so britney spears i mean usually people like what's your business like who's your inspiration who inspired this like entrepreneurship and people like it was oprah it was whoever and you're like britney spears helped me be inspired 100 britney Okay, so I made this product, the lip scrub. That's like our hero from my kitchen, which is amazing. I'm obsessed.
Starting point is 00:22:19 That was 2005. That was 13 years ago. Wow. Like probably before you guys were born. You feel brand new to me still. You're so sweet. I know. You feel brand new to me too.
Starting point is 00:22:26 I swear. Oh, that's so sweet of you. So no, I'm not. But okay, so the lip scrub built a hole in the market. There were none. Yeah. The lip slip is our glossy balm, which- Are you wearing it right now?
Starting point is 00:22:39 I'm wearing it right now. It's so beautiful. I almost wanted to have you have a smooch smooch. So cute. Wait, I haven't seen this version of it. I use the pot. This is the pink flip. I'm using a lab sample.
Starting point is 00:22:49 She is. Look, it has like the color on it. The pot. The pot is our hero. It's our best seller. The pot's the greatest. So, but I said to my chemists, I was like, you guys, I make vision boards for everything. Like what everything should feel like.
Starting point is 00:23:04 Do you want to hold hands? You guys are the same person. Only Kelty has an amazing face of dewy brows. I'm going to a thing after this. This is the most I've ever been dressed up. Her hair is incredible right now. The highlights, the lowlights, all of it. I am stripped down to the bone right now.
Starting point is 00:23:21 You and me both, girl. Jack has the same hairstyle as your daughter. She is. And your daughter is turning five. Jack and Julia both have the cutest little top knots. I know it's adorable. I'm like, I'm 31 years old. This is cool.
Starting point is 00:23:32 I know it's adorable. It's cute. So, okay, so I went to my lab, right, and I had, like, this vision board with, like, this picture of J-Lo in this, like, nude sheer dress and this YSL bag that's, like, kind of, like, snake skinny gold glitter and Britney Spears at the VMAs in 2001. Toxic Britney? No, no, no. No, no, no. Strip tease Britney after the tuxedo strips everything off. And then she's in the outfit.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Oops, I did it again. The pants. She's in the sheer pants and the sheer outfit and the long blonde hair. Oh, so good. She looks like she's naked, but she's glitter. Almost like Toxic Britney, like pre-Toxic Britney. Yeah, yeah. It's 2001.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Same idea, just live on stage. So I had this picture of her, and I'm like, if this performance of Britney Spears could come to life in a lip gloss, that's what I want. And they were like, what are you talking about? I think that's the most descriptive and poignant way you could describe something. I know exactly what that would look like. Thank you, Jack. I do, too.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Where were you in 2008 when I needed you most? I was going to concerts looking like a freak. She needed you, Sarah. I needed you. She had leopard print lips. I was wearing black lipstick. It was like naked luxury. Naked luxury.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Naked luxury. I love it. Yeah. And I was just like, so I want it to be like a little, like I want it to be sheer and nude and like a little iridescent and like just like your, your most glowy self and blah, blah, blah. And they were like, yeah, no, we're going to need some more. We're going to need a Pantone for that.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Oh, guess what? There isn't one. You can't explain, like, that crazy of an idea to somebody that is, like, not creative. My vision board sits in my office today, and most people that walk in do get it. They do. You achieved it. I love that. You know, since we have expanded Lady Gang, I love it whenever we have female entrepreneurs on the show, which is also a very cool thing happened this week is that someone posted on Lady Gang.
Starting point is 00:25:23 I know the last episode or a couple episodes ago and you were talking about ladybosses and it is such a thing to be like, oh, these female ladybosses. And Becca had made a comment like not everyone wants to be the boss. Yeah. Someone needs to be the worker bee. And we got a nice message that one of the girls was like, thank you so much. There's a whole culture of women that don't want to be the boss. They want to be like the worker bee and the backup bee and all that stuff. They're the fuel.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Yeah. Or a mother or something that's not. Or they're a mom boss. Yeah. Yes. Whatever. And so my question is, you know, how do you find employees and how do you find people to work with? That you trust.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Yeah, because that's like the hardest thing. We were talking a little bit before about distribution centers and stuff before we started. And like how do you use your gut? It's your gut. And it is hard. It's hard to find people that you trust, especially when it's like, you know, your thing. Like you want – it's like my baby. Like if it's 13 years old, Julia, my actual baby is five.
Starting point is 00:26:15 So this was like my first baby. So you feel like you're entrusting your baby to people. So I'm very big on, like, going with your gut, and it's usually right. And it's the rule, right? What's the rule? It's higher, slow, fire, fast. Damn. Writing down.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Zero to seven. Zero to seven. That's a mere message. Wait, that should be, like, her leading game mantra. That is amazing. That's it. Higher, slow, fire, fast. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Damn. Like, when you have that moment when you're like, this is done, you're done. Mm-hmm. Yep. Or you ride or die with me. Like, one of my best friends, Amy, owns my fulfillment company in Connecticut. And I mean, we text like 19 times a day, like she's probably peeing right now. And I know that, you know, so like you don't lose those people.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Or Maddie, who's our photographer, she's our president's daughter. So you just keep it in the family, man. It's very like, it's very mafia over here. That can get tricky though. It really can. When something goes to shit. When something goes awry, it can go, it can get tricky. But you just have to be really clear about, you know, who you want surrounding you.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And also your people have to spark joy. people always say like it's just business no it's not everything is personal it's not business unless it's literally a computer breaking my computer is business and my computer can totally break and that is business everything else is a person wow right so like it's not business like if i fired maddie right now which i won't like that's well depending on how these photos turn in the lady gang colors today she did maddie matches the room but you know there's a personal reason behind that you know what i'm saying so like i think you have to think of everything as there's a person behind what you're doing yeah also you look like ashley olsen i hear that a lot
Starting point is 00:27:56 hi yeah becca looks like ashley olsen thank you we've also heard that a lot yeah um no but i'm one of those girls you guys i don't want to be a boss i don't like my oh no i don't my thing is like no i don't though that's why i have like a president and i have like operations and i have like you know people running people so what's your what's your exact title in your brand well it is our ceo but it's founder okay i'm really the founder and like yes i'm the ceo yes i make the like the big decisions but i i don't god i can't i can't think of like managing helping people manage their time right my thing is just like show up and work really hard right let's all work really hard that's great if like you're in a sorority but like that's not how you run a
Starting point is 00:28:40 business. So I need people to help me run a business. As someone who has had to interview people and hire people, I was wondering if you could give advice to the ladies out there that are moving forward and they're going to these job interviews and they're trying to nail the interview because there really isn't anyone teaching us how to do that. Like, what are the things that stand out? Like, what are we wearing? What are we talking about? How much do we talk about ourselves? How much do we ask about you? Like, do we need to know about the company? Have we needed to scrub our lips before? Yeah, no, Kelsey, I would say whenever I'm talking to someone new, like I do my homework on them. Cause I want to be like, I want, I want them to know
Starting point is 00:29:15 that I know them. Like, I think it's a sign of just interest and respect. Like if I'm showing up to meet you guys, I'm going to know about you guys first. Right. Um, so I say, I say, do your homework. If you want to work for a company, most certainly know about the company, or you probably don't want to work there or it's just another interview. So I'm always impressed when people show up and they've like done their homework or they do know the brand or whatever. I'm turned off when people are like, so what do you do? I'm like, why are you here then? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:29:41 You know, like that. So I think number one. But also just like I think girls in particular forget to highlight things that are really unique about them. Like I have a girlfriend who's a marathoner. Put that on your resume. That shows like commitment and dedication, work ethic, discipline, all these amazing things. Like people forget that it's not just about your job title or what you've done. like who are you and like it all you speak to the whole package do you love hot yoga that's
Starting point is 00:30:11 interesting to me yeah you know like it doesn't just have to be like this is what i've accomplished thinking can be like a real representation of yourself and you probably have strengths that you're not promoting which jack like how you were like well i only do this well like no go in there and own whatever you do right i love that yeah um sometimes we like to play a P.S., like, a little clap because I feel very inspired. You're so cute. I have a label maker. I would like to organize drawers of scrubs.
Starting point is 00:30:39 But that says something about you, right? Like, that, when you said that. I'm very type A. Kelty said that she, like, you know, sits in her bathtub and, like, organizes her eye creams. Like, okay, that says something about you. That says, like, I would look at you and be like, oh, I want her on my team doing this. Right. You know, that is interesting.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I love that. so i have a little game for us today okay and i've named it and the girls always make fun of me okay um it's called kiss or diss oh that's a good one yeah okay got it so basically what it is is it's all the like top lip trends because you're here the lip queen and you can decide i'm sure you have so much to say i would decide and um we'll say if we would kiss it or diss it like kisses we love it dis is no thank you okay you ready we all said at the same time no no no we're gonna all vote okay one at a time and the only vote that really matters is yours because we have no idea we're just here for filler yeah okay are you ready lip filler
Starting point is 00:31:31 okay kiss or death wait no kiss or death oh my god i already screwed it up um uh over lining your lips oh i feel like if it's done right kiss most people diss i think if you're all glammed up and you're going to a party and you have a lot of makeup on already over lining you can get away with but in everyday life let's diss that okay i think if you're doing what charlotte tilbury tells you to do you can overline well she has this thing called a like a lip cheat i should know the title but i don't but she has this pencil that like lets you cheat outside the lines and it really does look amazing and it looks natural so it's not like you're like you know making your lips all purple and they're outside the lines it's just this little cheat that's like are your
Starting point is 00:32:23 lips asymmetrical do you want to like fill it in here that's fun i don't know i you know we all want i want bigger lips i'm dying to inject my lips and i don't but i want them the most amazing lips i want them so like i would say yeah overline every day whatever do you do you i love well so so like kiss thank you okay red lips red lips yeah a kiss except for on a date kiss kiss but only blue red yes blue red makes your teeth look whiter yes the other kiss but never on a red carpet because then you like only so like i could smolder but i don't smolder well you know what i mean like only a model or a j-lo can wear like a red lip on a red carpet yeah because or else i'm like and then it's like a little kid so anyway this wasn't about me purple blue green like crazy
Starting point is 00:33:13 color lip lips i'm gonna have to diss strong diss strong diss yeah glitter lips it's all the rage pat mcgrath if it's these britney spears inspired lips then kiss yeah i think kiss i wouldn't be able to do it absolutely not for me but it's for you i think kiss for instagram but dis in real life most things in general are better what about the concealer nude lip you know where it's like that yeah maddie yeah this for me yeah it's a diss for me i don't like when the lips lighter than the whole i like it i don't like when the lips disappear or not non-existent i'm into it with a smoky eye you have to have something else compensating so if you go for that like my lips don't exist look amazing but your eyes better oh you mean just like don't just conceal
Starting point is 00:34:04 your lips and then wear no makeup at all then it's like then it's like then you're dead That's like the beginning of Halloween, yeah. Okay, last one. Yeah. The super, super, like, ombre. Have you seen it, how people are doing it? I like that. I can't do anything.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I don't know makeup at all, but I think it looks cool. On Instagram, never seen it in real life, though. How do you do anything with that without messing it up? Well, people do it with, like, a stain. Like, stain the inside of their lips darker. No, I like the subtle ombre. Like, when my makeup artist does, like, slightly lighter on the inside than the outside. And then it gives, like, the illusion that your lip is bigger, but not, like, the full-blown.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Oh, I like it. Yeah, I diss the, like, the really true stain ombre. I think that's a little, it looks a little just weird. I just like people's real, I want to see their real lips in whatever form they are. Fun fact, I've always been a matte lip kind of person, like a lipstick. Yeah. And I've been watching you for the last 25 minutes and, like. You want to be a gloss person?
Starting point is 00:35:02 I want to be a gloss person. Your lips are incredible. But I want to make this gloss. So, anyway. So, that's gloss. Glad you made it. She wants a gloss. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I love that it's like when you walk into Nordstrom, it's like first thing I see in every Nordstrom is your product. Oh, my God. God. Did you like pay someone off for that? That's impressive. How does that happen? Don't.
Starting point is 00:35:20 She's like, it's just being popular. The buyers are nice. No, it's not. The buyers in Seattle are really nice. There's a girl up there named Cece King. She's the buyer, and she's fully on board with my... She got behind the lip slip so hard, and she got the Britney Spears thing. She's like, I get it, girl.
Starting point is 00:35:32 And she's just championed us since 2012. That's so awesome. It's amazing. Dope. Nordstrom but it wouldn't stay there if it sucked you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:35:40 if no one was buying it if you've been there for how many years third's 2012 I can't do math I don't I can't either that's six years everyone
Starting point is 00:35:46 come on you guys a nice six years okay well on that note when we come back Sarah's gonna help you figure out your life but not your math homework
Starting point is 00:35:56 no hey ladies get funky ask the lady gang okay so for this part of our podcast we have our listeners writing questions and we give them questionable advice yeah not about that don't worry yeah no
Starting point is 00:36:12 okay our first question comes from no name no name okay i'm sorry nameless okay anonymous it was a non anonymous says one night when my best friend and i were out we got into a fight while i think my actions were justified i didn't handle it gracefully i immediately apologized the next morning knowing that i had hurt her she said that she still hadn't forgiven me and said that i was an awful friend and a terrible human being and she brought it up for months it finally ended when i moved across the country for a job well it's been nearly two years since our fight and a year and a half since i moved i still can't get over the way our nearly six-year friendship ended after a lot of reflecting i know the end was because of me but i think that she caused our
Starting point is 00:36:52 friendship to be toxic and i never realized until i was out of it my question is is it okay to feel this way part of me feels guilty for feeling like this have any of you ever been in a situation similar it's hard when you apologize to someone and they don't forgive you i guess it depends on what she did like did she have sex with her boyfriend or no i don't know you know what i think speaks volumes is that she used the word like i didn't handle it gracefully yes something else happened very self-aware she's very self-aware so she probably didn't sleep with her best friend's boyfriend i it sounds to me like i don't know what she did but like she sounds like she's really given this a lot of thought and i i don't know i i side with you anonymous i think that
Starting point is 00:37:40 there's a lot of um like where she's saying that she didn't realize her friendship was toxic until she got out of it there's a lot that you learn retrospectively i've learned this in past relationships before that i thought were great until you get out of them and you're like oh my god i was being manipulated or like whatever it is yeah so i mean if she was a toxic friend then i would kind of just have to let it go because it's like yeah that kind of person in your life it's sometimes there's just seasons for people like you know what i mean you're like this is our six-year friendship like that's a long season of life to have like a friend like that you know there's like only a handful of people that you stay with like that were your kid people that
Starting point is 00:38:17 you stay with friends with for 25 years so it's like i have friends that i live with even in new york where we were so close and had such a thing and then you kind of like just move on and unfortunately like you said about your employees it's like sometimes when you try to hang on to something and it's not working anymore then it just gets more and more toxic and like then you just by the end of it it's bad well we've talked about this like a ton of times where i don't know if it was you letting go of a friend that you've known for a long time i don't probably do that a lot but just because you're friends for x amount of years doesn't mean you need to be friends because it was a long friendship like there are bad people that are friends with people for a
Starting point is 00:38:53 long time as well so right so like have that expectation that you're supposed to stay friends with everybody forever like i definitely have those friends that i probably will be friends with forever yeah but then there's like kelty said there's people who i've gotten extremely close with but then as soon as you feel that there's a disconnect or you're growing apart like you're not married to that person you didn't say vows like you already have to try to do that with one person yeah it's hard enough right yeah but like yeah it's it's just if you knew if you know it's toxic like don't beat yourself up that you let it go it happened for a reason right and it's okay to move on yes boom my mom only has like two friends left not because of like yeah
Starting point is 00:39:29 it's hard as you get older you just you know you stay with the people that are your core people and that's it well sometimes look at like some of my friends who are older and they've had like this group of girlfriends and you watch them as an outsider and you're like you guys don't even like each other no you're just hanging out because you don't because you went to high school together and so it becomes this like weird sorority of weird yeah don't do it you guys all hate each other but like you force it's so weird that is that's so true though yeah okay our second question comes from dreaming of spain oh wow she says i'm considering moving to madrid spain to teach for a year starting in february or march but i'm worried i'm making a huge mistake because
Starting point is 00:40:07 i'll be leaving my boyfriend and job stability back home how do i know if i'm making the right decision any advice on long-distance relationships talking to him about why i need and want to do this etc background is we've been together for two years both 26 years old and have lived together for a year in march i visited a friend who lives in madrid and completely fell in love with it the city lifestyle language and culture i thought maybe my interest in moving there would fade after being home longer but five months later i'm still obsessed i also felt like something has been missing from my life and i worry that one day i'm going to wake up and realize i'm stuck and regret not acting on my dreams she answered you answered your own question girl go you don't need
Starting point is 00:40:47 us i have never wanted to do anything that badly so you need to go yeah man and also if like if the first of all stability is fine like you can work anywhere right and also like if your boyfriend is really fantastic he'll be so excited for your excitement and he'll get on a plane and come see you yeah we wouldn't want to go to madrid we'll come see you i know i'll come i'll be your boyfriend yeah yeah you have to go one of my biggest regrets of my life is that i never went and lived abroad ditto uh-huh okay i did cruise ships i worked on a cruise ship we all know and then like i was in new york and then i was in la but like yeah why didn't i go to europe and just spend a year living in italy or like yeah i could have been married to tony and like making
Starting point is 00:41:29 hostel like i don't know it's true well that's the thing about the american culture is we're not pushed to do that like europeans are i'm sorry and it's like that's the time to travel you're 26 so you probably have like enough financial stability that you don't have to like live in a hostel you can live decently right and experience the city how you'd want to experience it as an adult and you're if your boyfriend and you are meant to be then and if you're already thinking at the age of 26 that you might regret it someday well got it girl yes you're gonna regret it you're already regretting it now yeah i would go with you my eggs are dying at a rapid pace i gotta get on this everything i want to do i swear to god like everything what like my husband
Starting point is 00:42:09 texts me today and he's like oh do you want to go on this like trip next summer we go like we try to go every summer with these friends and i'm like yeah i want to i want to go but like when am i getting pregnant like i'm only getting old pregnant i'm only getting so cute i could be your mom don't say that not even you're so precious no it's dark in here oh my god thank you we keep the lights low on purpose sarah isn't this why we wear buds to make us seem younger you're fine jack's wearing a scrunchie so let me just say this i i do believe i'm the oldest in the room and i think some of my happiest girlfriends had babies after 35 but we're on that track for real i want to do that for real like yeah what if we can't you know i think that
Starting point is 00:42:51 A lot of it is not up to us, and I have seen lots of pregnancies, I mean, happen over 35. So I think, and like my gynecologist, let me just tell you the truth, was like, listen, like you can be 28 and not fertile. You can be 42 and very fertile. Like, so the odds, I don't believe in odds, and I don't believe in statistics. I really don't. They're ever in your favor. I agree.
Starting point is 00:43:14 What's meant to be will be. I agree. Hunger games for your ovaries. No, it's true. but it's like so hard to relax because then you're like yeah i was having conversation the other day and i was like yeah i think like you know i'm coming up it's like mid-30s and like you know not pregnant don't have any babies yet and then what if you are single becca and not married and worrying about that like i am eggs i'm thinking about freezing my eggs and i was like well you
Starting point is 00:43:40 know between now and like my 35th birthday like not much can happen and my friend's like um that's exactly when it happens yes oh my god yeah you're like that's where it exponentially drops it's not it's really really not have you talked to your doctor the google is not oh okay oh your doctor scares you scare me but like you know she's like well what are you waiting for oh gosh like okay i'm not going to spain like every day is the same for me what am i waiting for over here oh god that was my therapy session sorry guys okay i'm just sorry yesterday that's why i'm really on high it's gonna be okay back on alert okay yeah i believe in your eggs thank you thank you the last question comes from a man too bad you can't botox an egg to keep
Starting point is 00:44:27 it fresh that's brilliant just freeze it in time there's this one um like plastic surgeon on instagram and he does all these post baby botox and he just does it to get a rise out of people because he's like a normal plastic surgeon. He'll be like, two twins. One's had Botox, one has it, and the one's all smiley and the other one is like all grumpy looking like an old man.
Starting point is 00:44:50 That's amazing. I love this. And then it has all, I can't believe you're doing this. People take everything so seriously. Yeah, people are just so insane. We need to calm down. Okay, last question comes from Anonymous.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Anonymous says, I've been dealing with anxiety for the last three years, but lately it seems to be getting worse, especially dealing with my horrible boss, planning my wedding, not making enough money to pay for bills. What would you ladies suggest to help with that?
Starting point is 00:45:15 Some people have told me to smoke weed, never have tried smoking weed. Others say prescription of Xanax. Help me. I just want to feel normal. Oh, baby. I feel like anxiety is something that like mental health in general, like anxiety and depression are not given space. We can talk about infertility.
Starting point is 00:45:33 We can talk about abuse. We can talk about a lot, but you're not allowed to say I have anxiety or I have depression and that's really too bad. And I think it's so, so, so overly normal. I love therapy. I think everyone should have a therapist. I think with anxiety, too, what makes it hard is there's not a lot of people don't have a pinpoint to what's making them anxious. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I mean, I usually do, like, when I have, like, really bad anxiety. But I have two really good friends that have these crazy panic attacks that they'll faint from that stem from nothing. Yeah. So I think it's hard for people to talk about it with people that don't understand it, that people that don't get it. So I agree with like therapy to try to work through what the underlying issue is. It sounds like life's hard right now, too, though. You're dealing with a horrible boss. You're planning a wedding, which, by the way, worst and not making enough money.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Like I was kind of in a place where I was planning our wedding like it was the most stressed out about finances I'd ever been. And in hindsight, I wish I'd been like, you know what, let's hold off on this wedding because I'm not even going to enjoy it because all I'm going to be thinking about is how expensive it is, you know, so it's like, take a step back, talk to your fiance and just like, I promise you, even if you're not conscious of it, planning a wedding is hard for people who are like happy and rich and don't have jobs. So for you with all these other things on top, but also don't get hooked on Xanax because it's amazing and you will.
Starting point is 00:46:59 And don't smoke weed. It's too good. Don't smoke weed because my most anxious friends actually have worse episodes when they do smoke weed. CBD oil is kind of nice. I like that. I totally heard that. Yeah, it's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:47:10 Don't smoke sativa weed if you do smoke weed. Don't. You'll have really bad panic attacks. You know from experience. You'll sit in a corner and twitch. Oh, good. Well, on that note, twitch on over to your computer and follow Sarah on Instagram at Sarah Happ with two Ps.
Starting point is 00:47:30 You can also check out all of her line and beautiful photography and just dream about being basically one of her people on her website, SarahHapp.com. But you can also buy the products at Nordstrom and basically anywhere. Yeah. You can buy it at SarahHapp.com for sure. You can buy it at J.Crew, Nordstrom. We're also on QVC, which they have right now. They have pumpkin spice latte scrub.
Starting point is 00:47:55 The only place you can get it. Oh, my God. That sounds amazing. That's amazing. That's pretty good. But yeah, and you're so lucky, so lucky. We're so lucky because we're not saying anything yet, but there might be a lady gang collaboration in the future. So I think we're in the right place.
Starting point is 00:48:10 I think we're in the right place for that. We need to get our lips ready to kiss some asses because we have a new TV show coming out. Amazing! And we need to kiss some corporate asses. I like how you did that. I didn't think she was planning on doing that. Where am I going with this? I love the people.
Starting point is 00:48:27 I love the people. Sarah, you're lovely. Thank you for being here. We will see you next Tuesday. Yay! Join the Lady Gang every Tuesday at iTunes and at PodcastOne.com. That's PodcastONE.com. Thanks for listening.
