Starting point is 00:00:33 And let me tell you something. I didn't understand that I needed an Air Whip mascara, but we've been using this at E, and it is fantastic. It really is light as air, and I feel like someone like me that has shorter lashes, it doesn't weigh them down and make them look clumpy. I love clean, vegan, cruelty-free products only from Easy Breezy Beautiful CoverGirl. It's time for a quickie. podcast one presents the lady gang the hollywood girl posse with lady gang quickie here's kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanik let's make this quick hello hello hello welcome to lady gang quickie i am becca here with jack and kelty
Starting point is 00:01:13 hello hi you're very cute me yeah you have like a um spray tan did you line yeah thank you what is a line but it looks like contour it looks like contour i do that for my big forehead yeah oh no it's just i've i've been trying to figure out what's what's the solution right near my hairline and it's just every time i do it it gets worse you don't want to put spray tan in your hair because it won't be blonde no it's not even that it's like if i try to go on my scalp once and then it was just like too much yeah yeah so this is a spray tan no this is i have my own self yeah but do you use a makeup brush to apply it yes oh it's just along the edges is where it gets a little squirrely interesting yeah still better than being pale if you say so becca doesn't agree
Starting point is 00:02:00 but percent in this episode lady gang's gonna dive into the power of a good glow up starting with lashes and ending with life inspired by the cover girl lash blast super cloud mascara we're talking about confidence bold moves and the little things i will tell you that i have mine here actually i'm going to give this to one of you because i already have mine in my makeup kit i used it this morning um i saw kelsey ballerini use the super cloud mascara and then i went out and got it from my makeup kit at e before they even were sponsoring this episode really yeah uh because i'll do anything kelsey does because she's so beautiful i love a weightless length and i also love a vegan i love a vegan so here this for you oh my god thank you you're welcome i love
Starting point is 00:02:41 the color okay what is the moment you felt like you had the ultimate glow up I feel like there was no moment but I do feel like each year I am glowing up as much as I complain about aging and there are days when I definitely don't feel amazing I would say all in all my confidence each year has gotten better so that's the glow up for me yeah mine was kind of more like it wasn't one thing that i did on the outside but like my glow up was almost when i met jared and i agree one thousand percent for me yes but it wasn't that i changed anything that i was i mean i was definitely doing less there was a moment where i was doing too much filler for sure so it was like going back to everyone alive yes but i think more so it was like meeting somebody that like thought
Starting point is 00:03:32 i was like the most beautiful person in the entire world stopped me from like hyper focusing on things that I hated about myself which are like nothing things and nobody else would notice yeah um and I think by like not hyper fixating and like beating myself up over that like that ended up glowing me up just unintentionally I guess I agree I think of both of you on your wedding days and I just think of like man being with the right person I guess the inside out of like the outside you can do everything under the sun but if you don't have like happiness and contentment in your heart if it's your relationship or your life or your choices like whatever it is it doesn't matter because you still like some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood that I see
Starting point is 00:04:17 on the red carpets like you can tell that they're like shell humans and so like takes away the beauty but then you see someone like I mean Margot Robbie's obviously so beautiful and like different like Selena Gomez now that she's madly in love isn't that insane she was always beautiful but like Selena Gomez being in love is she's zillion times more beautiful but she looks exactly the same happy she looks happy yeah happiness is the best club okay if you could go back and give yourself one glow up tip what would it be mine's the filler like stop with the filler with the chin and the jawline filler yeah there was like a point where it was like if filler is available and it's like you could put it wherever yeah i think we're all doing it
Starting point is 00:05:01 we're putting it wherever you could put it yeah um and like there's places on certain faces that don't need it at all and those places for me were my jawline like definitely i have a strong jawline don't need them all set all set all set nice and crunchy right here yeah mine is um padded bras oh my god well i wore water bras before i even water bras stuff my bra um there was a guy i when i used to be on a different show there was someone used to like hound me on facebook and be like you're just so weird because on tv your boobs look so big and then in real life they're so flat and i'm like like you're a creep but then i realized like oh no this is like really the truth i really believed that you could not be a successful hollywood lady without big boobs
Starting point is 00:05:46 because that's what they tell you, except for Paris Hilton, who's like the only one that didn't get a boob job. And I always was wearing the Victoria's Secret add three cups bra. And it looked ridiculous. You guys, it looked so dumb. Um, and now I'm just like, screw it. Like it is what it is. And I think it's just like using what you got. Like I figured out how to course it myself properly that my boobs kind of squished together and I feel cute. I know you really have figured that out well my tip was less literal and more just advice to my younger self I wish she knew how little other people were paying attention to the way she looked and that people whatever that quote is they will remember how you made them feel yeah and I think in our 20s we tend to be
Starting point is 00:06:31 very inward and very self-conscious and very much obsessed with appearing pretty or right or perfect or whatever and so in hindsight no one's looking at you under a microscope the way you're looking at yourself under one nobody's even looking at you they're looking at themselves like and then i'll never forget that quote that becca tilly like said randomly like on an instagram story probably seven years ago i will always remember and she was like i've never remembered how skinny somebody was or how pretty they were or how like long their legs were it's like i remember i do remember a lot of legs you want what you can't have yeah but it's like you remember like your conversations with people and like how they make you feel it's like that quote but like it is so
Starting point is 00:07:12 insane because it's like nobody is even clocking it because they're too obsessed with themselves I really was last night before you guys got here I was tired and I went in my little sauna and I did the thing that I see this is the thing we never we never really grew up I wanted to like clean up my eyebrows before the week began. And so I took my super magnifying mirror and I did my eyebrows, which is great. And then I started looking at my pores and I was picking apart every pore on my cheek that was clogged or kind of weird or whatever. And I was like, there's no one, including the lady and girls that ever gets close enough to my face where they would notice. No. And then you start picking it and then it becomes a mountain and then you get a scar
Starting point is 00:07:53 and then it was 10 times worse than if you just left it. It's insane. Um, okay. Do you have a major uh style or beauty fail that at the time you thought was a crazy glow up bangs bangs you looked good with bangs you did look good with bangs i don't you look good with you have the face that looks good with any hair who looks like there's just the zoe deschanels of the world ruin it for everyone because they just look incredible with bangs yeah you have to have the right hairline you have to have the right bang texture yeah it just was never an improvement for me You know, even if you can pull something off, it's not necessarily how you look your best. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 00:08:32 You know, so that was a, not a great one. Yeah. I had bangs once. Never again. That's was a child. All your kid pictures. You have little bangs. Oh no.
Starting point is 00:08:41 As an adult, I had bangs. I don't even know what I would do if I saw you with bangs. It was so bad. It was when I had like, I was like in my dark red hair phase, like a little bit like of an, not Auburn, but like the darker red. And it was, yeah, for one time. and i'm like can't do this too many calyx going on and not my face shape um mine was so when i was younger i filmed a pilot for fuse tv it was like based on my life and like just being an emo
Starting point is 00:09:09 kid or whatever um and i found the pictures of my outfits like you know how you have to do like in continuity picture so i had these four outfits that i wore for this pilot oh my god i must have blocked this like time out of my brain because they were the ugliest thing that i've ever seen in my life i'm gonna post on my instagram and do a tiktok about it because it was like this wasn't even emo this was like hodgepodged fugly fugly and i thought i was the hottest you're like i've got these jeans but then i've got a peplum top but then i've got like a snake coming out of my ear and then i've got a feather earring and then i always have like a scarf and then like I handmade a lot of things it was really bad so that was definitely I mean but I felt great I was
Starting point is 00:09:54 just gonna say but you probably felt great I felt it really was trendsetting mine is uh when I went like hard on the eyebrow tinting like I remember seeing skinny confidential and she was like I do the triple dip dark dark dark chocolate and then triple dip and um and I was like yeah me too me too and so I would go and I wanted I remember spending at an eyebrow place in Beverly Hills cause I got on the eyebrow thing. It was like $300 every time for them to, and she only did like, she was like famous for doing a feather brow. She was like, I'm going to do a feather brow, which meant like she plucked two hairs. And I was like, it was a hundred dollars per hair pluck and they would tint your eyebrows. And I just had the biggest fattest,
Starting point is 00:10:35 not every face needs that much brow. Very, very few. I think it's like the one thing I've learned about brows is just like do the brow that you're given and also no one is like it's a but a bad brow can really ruin it that's what i'm saying but like a bad brow won't be your brow your brow is the good brow yeah this episode of lady gang is brought to you by covergirl super boost your lashes with new lash blast super cloud mascara from covergirl i recently saw our girl kelsey ballerini talking about this online i was very interested and i'm happy to report back to you that you can get weightless length and light as air lift with their Air Whipped formula. It's infused with vegan collagen, vitamin B5, and amino acid.
Starting point is 00:11:16 But the most important thing is to experience up to 24 hours of clump-free, smudge-free. And for me, the most important part of mascara, flake-free wear that is gentle on your lashes and, most importantly, easy to remove. And there's nothing worse than scrubbing your lashes until they literally break off to get rid of that mascara. I love the ingredients. I love the way it makes my lashes look. I love how it was clump-free. It really got every individual lash, and I don't have gray lashes to begin with, so this is a beautiful thing.
Starting point is 00:11:42 And it's clean, vegan, cruelty-free, only from Easy Breezy Beautiful Cover Girl. The Lady Gang. What is a time in your career when you needed a little super boost, just like the mascara, to push yourself to the next level? Mine's right now. I was just going to say every day. I know. I'm like, yeah, sluggish. um have you ever faked confidence to get through a situation my main one that i can think about is
Starting point is 00:12:12 like leading live shows leading tv like those are the two places i feel very unconfident and the two places that i'm like i'm faking it i'm pretending like everything is okay and it ends up being fine but i definitely don't innately have it in me mine's weird and i hate this about myself. It's when I see celebrities out, this is wild. When I see celebrities in a social setting and not in a work setting, I have to try so hard to act normal. I don't know how to act normal. I'm very in my head about it because I know that they know I work for e-news or I work for these news places. And so like, I want them to understand that I'm like, I'm not a regular reporter. I'm a cool reporter. Like won't report on it. If you're like cheating on your husband right now, like I'm
Starting point is 00:12:55 cool you I'm evolved but I can't say that out loud so then I try to act extra cool and then I think act dumb and then I just like I'm so confident in my work life but my personal life and personal relationships is pretty bad I get that it is a stick I don't know how to act normal yeah you know yeah and it doesn't matter who it is I act like an idiot I have seen you act very bizarre in situations like that it's true what is that it's kind of like overcompensating yeah in a sense like i can't just be cool you can't just yeah be chilled never been chilled my life you've never you also act that way to like like you did it to our flight attendant on the plane recently it's just like what's happening yeah it's like i overcompensate because i know because
Starting point is 00:13:38 you think you're being like like you think that you're unsocial so i'd be extra social yes anti you think you're anti-social yeah like then it would be better if i just did what chris knight does which is to sit quietly at the end of the table and let the other people that need attention talk loudly, which is what I want to do socially. But I think people think I want to like judge. So I judge, but then I'm also like, I don't want to judge too much. I don't want to judge. Like we're on a TV show. I just want to judge like a normal person. Like, I don't know. It's so weird. I get it though. Yeah. Um, well, I mean the life of an auditioning actor is pretty much faking confidence every time you do that. So I was trying to find there, I heard a
Starting point is 00:14:17 quote about research done on actors when they go into an audition, what their body goes through. And I cannot remember, but it was the equivalent of something so traumatic that normal people probably never face or face once in their life. It's not that I'm a hero by any means I chose this, but that is for sure a fake confidence. Yeah. Well, it's interesting because when we were dancers in New York and we would go to these auditions, Jack, like there'd be 200 girls in line and you would go in the morning and they would do like a dance cut and then they would cut sometimes they did a height cut sometimes they would just have you stand in a line and be like you're not the right person that happened to me marguerite derrick's to do that all the time
Starting point is 00:14:59 she's like if you're not the right look i don't even want to waste your time that's how i got the west side story tour because you're the right look uh-huh yeah well alan johnson just walked past us uh-huh and he just said yes or no and then we had to obviously continue the audition but he weeded us out like from, you could have been the most talented person in the room, but if you didn't look like it, I feel like you can't do that anymore. I have no idea what they do, but like there was all these cuts and then you got down to the end of the day or the end of second day and there was like 20 people left and you knew, okay, like some of these people are going to get calls. Some of them won't, but that only happened with every 20th audition you
Starting point is 00:15:35 went to. So you weren't waiting. Like, I can't believe what you do because you put yourself out there over and over and over again, month, month, week after week. And like everything goes into thin air and you never know who, which one you're going to hear from. Like at least with the dance world, you kind of knew the ones you were close on. So you could hyper fixate on those, but you didn't have to. But you do know when you're close on the acting jobs. Oh, you do? Yeah. Cause you have to continue. Yeah. You have to do a callback or put something else on tape. So you do know within, and I've, yeah, you do know if you're close. Who in your life has given you the biggest super boost when you needed it most i don't want to break your hearts but it's you guys
Starting point is 00:16:15 no one believes in my delusional self the way you do really yeah seems crazy i know i i often wish i had like a team a whatever what about chris chris unfortunately and fortunately loves me in all the things I can do. And this, it was talking about like, I mean, I was talking about career and stuff, but I think like, I don't know. I just think that you guys understand because we work with me, you understand my work brain so much that I don't know. Well, we also have the same exact goal. Right. So we understand. So we like feed into each other's delusions. no yeah well even when each of us is doing our own independent venture i think all of us are we really cheer for each other yeah it's true and it helps that we all three have such different
Starting point is 00:17:12 goals as individuals yeah that it makes it really easy to cheer because if you guys were actresses i'll be honest i would not be cheering for you to get jobs i was also up for yeah i'm not a crazy person right no exactly jack do you have one i mean my parents obviously and then jared easy pick adorbs have you been watching summer house no okay so there's this girl named lexi she's new to the house this year she's beautiful stunning model young but she's like besties with her parents she's like my mom's my best friend and her parents came out and they stayed out and drank with her and i was like this is oh my god literally jack it is baby jack vanek oh my god i gotta watch it it's really cute um what was the oh who supports i would say my super boosts you
Starting point is 00:17:58 super boosts my sister super boosts me most of the time but not blindly yeah so that's why i trust it because when i know she's you know being honest it's real um i and then my friend kat that i've had for i would say 20 years she's such a supportive friend she'll she listens to the podcast. That's how supportive she is. Yeah, that is. If, okay. What I want to do now is I want to us to say a confidence boosting ritual that you swear by. Becca? Staying true to you. Oh. So there's a lot of pressure in today's age of going with every trend, trying every trend. And if you don't do this thing, you're not on trend, which makes you an old lady. And I feel like when I go that route now, there are exceptions, but if I know I need to feel confident in a day or a night
Starting point is 00:18:59 or whatever, I need to stay with the things that have always made me feel good. So it might be a timeless outfit that I own and it might not be the trendiest thing ever, but I know that when I'm out wearing it i'm feeling comfortable like myself and that goes with like hairstyles makeup styles i like to try new products but i don't like to try new new techniques yeah so it's really there's so much out there and if you're a trendy girl you're a trendy girl and that's what makes your heart sing but i really realize that sticking with what makes me feel good is the mundane like kind of boring things oh i love that though nothing new jack mine's more vain obviously a spray tan it's really boost spray tan and a fake freckle is just the best convo do you love
Starting point is 00:19:45 a fake freckle because it hides like imperfections on my face like it high if i have like a blemish or if i have like i have so many sun spots that i need to get rid of someday or maybe not yeah but like if i throw some freckles on then it just like camouflages all the other stuff and then it makes my skin feel more flawless so interesting i love it and then it makes me feel young my confidence i might be like 60 having fake freckles one day at that point i'll say let's just tattoo those those suckers yeah my confidence boosting uh ritual has always and will always be the power pose babe you look in the mirror i haven't heard that in such a long time i haven't been talking about it but i do it still all the time you stand like superman you put your hands on your hips
Starting point is 00:20:25 feet apart you look in the mirror and you tell yourself before a job interview before a date before a big moment in your life. And you say, I've got this. I'm the bomb. I, no one is like me. I'm going to kill it out there. Like watch me go. I'm so powerful. I'm so strong. And it tells your brain that you are not to be nervous and to be a super person. And it really does work. And it's incredible. I love it. And where your power color, I love to wear a power color yellow. I really wanted to wear yellow dress to the Oscars, but they didn't have anything available, But I love power color, power dressing, but also the power pose is it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Like I still do it in my daily life all the time. I love that. Isn't that so weird? But I just have to talk to myself in the mirror because my negative self-talk is like, and so it's nice to just stop it for a second and be like, no, listen up Kelty. There's no one like you. You're great. You know, just like that.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Love it. And that's what I think about my, but I'm cover girl. Lash, splash, super cloud mascara. We want to thank CoverGirl for sponsoring this epic conversation about all of our hacks, glow-ups, careers, and times we needed a little boost to get ahead. And we weren't here for a long time.
