Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, it's your Lady Gang, Jack Vanek, Kelty Knight, and Becca Tobin. Thank you so much for subscribing on iTunes, and thanks for supporting the great sponsors who make it possible for us to have this much fun with you every single week for free. Well, what is this? Welcome to the Lady Gang. That's amazing. Say that again. The Lady Gang. Things are about to change around here.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Each week we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to Lady Gang. We are still in this New York City hotel room, so it sounds different. We're stuck here forever. And we sound tired. And, like, I have a man voice. It's Becca Tobin with Jack Vanek, Kelty Knight. Hi, guys. What's up, girl? How's New York treating you? Honestly, we've worked our asses off this whole weekend.
Starting point is 00:00:49 I'm fucking exhausted. There's no time. No time. But it's been so funny because Elena, yesterday we slept for, like, 12 hours because we were so exhausted. And then I felt like – I mean, I didn't tell you this yet, but I felt like now you understand why I'm always so tired and mean. Because I – oh, you don't. Okay. Because, like, I –
Starting point is 00:01:08 Notice Jack and I said nothing. Crickets. Just kidding. I'm so tired that she's, like, very aloof. Yeah. But, like, I, like, between Lady Gang and regular job, like, I'm always running around like this. It's, like, nutso, you know? I don't know how you do it.
Starting point is 00:01:24 extra and um but it's it's actually been really it's been really fun can i say that we've been so busy and new york is one of the like most amazing cities for food yeah and the other day i didn't eat all day and then i ended up eating subway out of all the things i could have eaten i ate subway because i was so busy because you wanted it no because it was so late by the time i got home and there's like nothing else open and it was raining i gotta get pizza when you're in new york that's really i know i'm getting pizza today i just decided so excited um okay well on that note it's time for good week yes it is bad week oh no i'm gonna go first because i'm so excited about my good week i'm so excited okay it's another episode episode edition edition of
Starting point is 00:02:15 becca on people oh my god i think you guys aren't even ready for the newest photoshop magic it's me and zach as prince harry and megan markle oh my god no first of all i must say that i look amazing as megan markle zach zach looks like a beast from beauty and the beast that doesn't even look like zach how good is this my favorite thing about becca on people is it's such a bad photoshop job always but i like i think that that makes it so good it's so good like because they kind of just cut your face out like all jagged and just put it on something i love it i love it so much honestly is it making you rethink your wedding dress like you should have maybe had a tiara no i mean honestly i would never be able the tiara i'm so anti like i couldn't even
Starting point is 00:03:05 wear it if i won miss america i'd be like i'm good you can keep it i think my favorite back on people was the one that they did of us on queer eye and elena was in it oh and kelty kelty in that one is so good what who was she though i don't know i'm pulling it up that one okay this one this one oh yeah so good who am i am i anthony i'm bobby you're karamo i love it elena's jonathan we're literally laughing about something people can't but they're gonna go look so just go check it out well you really have given back on people so funny or he i don't even know is it a girl or boy you're so mysterious next on lady gay our guest back on people tell us how to photoshop oh my god okay here's my bad week um so
Starting point is 00:03:55 zach and i are like pretty oh he's gonna kill me he doesn't listen anymore so it doesn't matter so he says yeah so he says so we are like we're not weird about farting i mean you can't marry me and be weird about farting it's just not a possibility so like we're open about it and so sometimes you know like i'll have like but before my time of the month like you know those are the stinkiest farts yeah they're so bad and like i torture zach and because he's like why can't you just leave a room like just leave her i'm like first of all i would be leaving the room like 75 times and does anybody else feel like when you leave a room it goes away like if you move from that position oh yeah it escapes and it goes sucks back into you and he like just doesn't
Starting point is 00:04:35 believe me that that happens so the other night we're laying in bed and he's like not a big like gassy whatever person he's not disgusting so we're laying in bed and he sleeps next to the bed with a fan because he loves like it to be extra cold and he's like facing me and we're like sort of having a conversation in bed blah blah blah and the fan's going and all of a sudden he's like oh sorry i just passed gas the fan it hit the fan and it was like a fart slingshot into my mouth and i was like i have never tasted a fart before it was i was infiltrated i was infiltrated it was like i was at a spritz counter at the that like riches way back in the day and somebody like in your face it was a fart slingshot and it was like the ultimate karma and now i understand why he's so
Starting point is 00:05:22 upset when i do that kind of stuff i actually got perspective and it makes me upset because i have to stop farting now yeah or at least be more tactical i think that was the karma you deserve it definitely is yeah but it just made it so clear that like oh my god i guess it's gross maybe don't dutch oven your husband i'm sorry i'm sorry zach i got karma slingshot okay i'm gonna go um my good week is i have a new favorite hobby and that hobby is airdropping photo airdropping a specific photo stranger when you're at a bar just opening up airdrop and seeing whose phone's on and just dropping random photos to them wait what you need to change your name on airdrops so they don't know it's super anonymous yeah yeah but they won't they're not gonna know
Starting point is 00:06:05 it's me anyways but here's my photo that i've been airdropping people it is justin bieber with michael jackson's face photoshopped onto it oh my god and you guys i highly i'll send this to everybody i highly advise doing it it is great because then you can like look in the bar and see who got the picture because they're like what the fuck because it's an airdrop from a stranger Oh, I would. It's so fun. Oh, my God. Everybody turn their airdrop on to everyone.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Yeah. Collect some random photos. I got a photo of some naked guy in, like, a mental asylum clinged to a ceiling trying to escape once. It was great. It's great. That sounds good for you. I'm just really trying to...
Starting point is 00:06:44 What's it called? You must be really bored in bars. Absolutely. It's because you're always in bars. I was going to say, it's just getting so mundane. Stay home, Jack. I'm telling you, this is my good week. It's sad.
Starting point is 00:06:54 It's really, really sad. Okay, my bad week is. so kelty had talked about how we had both gone to vegas and i got all the hookups and she didn't because she's not as famous as me so i was getting you know my free cocktail hour at the palazzo and the girl that was the waitress like came up and was taking our drinks blah blah blah blah and she had asked my name for something and i was like oh my name is jack vanek and she freaked out she's like oh my god like i used to think you were so cool for the longest time and that was it i was like you don't think i'm cool anymore she's like i had your bracelets forever and
Starting point is 00:07:34 then i just stopped wearing so i'm like officially a has-been um my bad week for you is that i've been trying to hold on to this fart for so long and i just no way do you not smell it yet it's coming your way i'm so sorry i've been trying it smells like a vegan oh my god it's like a brussels sprout it's like that fart has just been sitting up on your butt for so long and it finally came out it's like fermented until after good week bad week and it can't hold it anymore it's a fermented fart i'm so sorry everyone my bad it's like rotting you're spinning it into my face you can't open windows in new york city that's the saddest thing okay anyway that's not my good week my good week is that i have a new
Starting point is 00:08:23 favorite word cranky making oh yeah that's a good one did you use it the other day probably i'm using it and it's like you know what this lateness is really cranky making it's like grinding your gears yeah like you know what holding this fart in for an hour has been really cranky making okay at least you didn't do this when we had a guest i know that's why i'm trying to anyway air it out before the next person okay well we'll spray some perfume and that's why i brought a candle okay um my bad week uh this is very short i was walking down ventura avenue walking my dog um and uh a homeless kind of guy i don't know if he's homeless but like a guy in general walk walk towards me and the dog kind of like you know goes towards a person but i have her
Starting point is 00:09:05 on a short leash so she couldn't get to him and he looks at me and he goes get the fuck away from me and then spit on me oh that happened to me and it like a couple days ago by a woman and i was with my little nine-year-old cousin and she started screaming at him i was like yeah who says that i don't know sorry about my fart when we come back something fosters here jesus okay what's going on now here's the lady gang our guest today is a tony award-winning actress singer and dancer who got her start on star search honey but i fell in love with her when i saw her on broadway when she starred in thoroughly modern millie and after that she did like a gazillion broadway shows but more importantly she gets to live our dreams and make out on screen of course with nico tortellini
Starting point is 00:09:52 because she is the star honey of the tv land comedy drama younger please welcome to the lady gang a freaking icon Sutton Foster I have an addition to that oh I saw Thoroughly Modern Millie the night before the Tonys when you won oh it was like the craziest most like theater nerd moment of my life but it was such a great story because I remember seeing you and being like wow she's incredible but it was also at a time before you could be just like a Broadway girl and then star in a show like that now it's like you have to have been on american idol or whatever like it's very rare that like just someone you know but you wasn't originally even your role and then you stepped into it and made you famous like that's amazing it was beyond yeah i definitely
Starting point is 00:10:39 i'll not always have that story i'll always be the understudy who you know came came took over at the last minute but um no yeah i like was like a course course girl and i like climbed the ladder and you know I yeah I feel so it changed my life and changed my career and um yeah I I owe so much to so many people but it was an amazing time so how did younger come about well for first I will tell you here we go no I'll just tell you I was really excited for Hillary because sorry because many many years ago I had a tv show idea and it got as far as like me meeting Hillary and being like, you're going to play me. And she was like, no, this is such a long story, but I'll tell it on another podcast. But anyway, I was like, why the won't Hillary do my show? And then she did
Starting point is 00:11:27 younger. And I was like, Oh, I see why. Cause something way better came along. So how did it come to you? I was on another show called bun heads with Amy Sherman, Palladino, who did Gilmore girls and now the marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Um, but the show got canceled and I was like, Oh, And my agent sent me this script by Darren Starr called Younger. And it came across my plate and I was like, oh, wow, this is interesting. And I was sort of at a place in my career where I was sort of falling between the cracks of playing. I was reading young, but I was of a certain age and I couldn't kind of cross over into that next thing. And I thought, oh, this seems perfect for me because in my mind I still feel like I'm 17.
Starting point is 00:12:11 So I was like, hey, maybe I can play this. And, um, and the, it was really witty and smart. And, and I thought, oh, Darren star, this is awesome. And, um, so I, I did a, I auditioned for it and I, uh, I, I really, really wanted it. And I like worked really hard and then, um, and then I got it. What was that like? Like how many auditions, who else, like, who did you beat? I mean, like who was also up for it?
Starting point is 00:12:35 Like, I think there was only one other actress and, um, I did a, I just did one screen test for it. So, but I was, it was one of those things where I like, I I'm terrible at auditions and, um, I usually like never, I just like panic, but I, I like really worked on it. I got like special outfit. I like hired someone to do my hair and makeup. I was like, I'm getting this job. And so I'm really glad it worked out.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah. It's amazing. Now, then what happens is you get to set and they're like, Oh, here's, you're going to play your love interest. Nico Tortellini, who's PS came on the show. we could never pronounce his name so we call him nico tortellini he was on lady gang like a year ago and we were giggling school girls like we couldn't keep it together i was the most like magnetic charming he's a magical unicorn he really is so magical chemistry together is
Starting point is 00:13:26 insane it's insane it's like some of the best chemistry on television oh well we love each other it's it's uh he's he's a really special guy i you know and and that chemistry thing is so elusive you know you can't you can't fake it and he um we only worked together on one day on the pilot because he he the pilot i think we shot it over maybe eight days or something but he only worked that one day and um yeah it was sort of like instant yeah you just can't help but sort of fall in love with him you do because he's just sort of this open bleeding beautiful you know being i just i just adore him i think he's just the best yeah but then are you like nico totally like like how do i speak in front of you god like i get i listen i get that you
Starting point is 00:14:11 like have your life and your man but like so do i and i couldn't speak i also but like nico and i have a different type of relationship because i i i also i also think of him that's terrible but i also think of him as like my brother yeah so i'm like you know i have we have more of that sort of relationship offset you know i just adore him i'm wanna i'm just i'm there for him no matter what so i'm not as like and that's probably why we didn't get that job because we like they didn't even call us in because like we heard you on lady gang and you're like okay um there's a lot of making out on your show there is um and so first of all like how do you deal with that with your man like are you like hey i'm gonna
Starting point is 00:14:58 to go to work it's going to be just a boring ass day i know i remember in the first season nico and i had a scene in a tub we were like in a bathtub and so i tell my husband i'm like well i it's just another thursday as i go like hang out with nico in a bathtub naked um but it's like yeah it's definitely my husband look luckily is in the in the biz he's a writer so he gets it But it is definitely weird. It's weird, but it's also awesome. Like, I can have so much fun for my job. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I mean, it's amazing. So it's, yeah. And luckily, we all really like each other and respect each other on set. So it's not too weird. No. It's like if you had to, you know. Yeah. I would rather it be this way than if you had to, like,
Starting point is 00:15:43 mack out with somebody that you just couldn't stand. Yeah. That's usually the case. Right. So we feel, we all just feel kind of, like. Lucky. Yeah. With the entire cast, we all just feel super, it seems so cliche and vomitous, but it's
Starting point is 00:15:58 like we all really love each other. You can tell. It's a wonderful environment. This just came to me for the actresses in the group. When you make out with someone on screen, do you use a tongue or no? It depends. I feel like on-screen kisses are so weird sometimes. I feel like people feel uncomfortable maybe doing that.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And also, do you really want to see tongue? Yeah, no. When you're watching, do you want to see all that? you kind of like fake a french kiss right like you can sort of like sometimes a tongue will slip in there but it's not usually it's like you're like oh sorry sorry sorry you know you like actually start getting into it and you're like oh wait i'm sorry i'm method um okay so when i was diving down the hole of like everything that goes on with younger i realized that charles who's played by peter herman is actually mariska hargitay's husband who is your best friend
Starting point is 00:16:48 or your friends with me and mariska yeah well we're not best friends oh you're not although i would love to be her best friend okay no but she's amazing oh okay so this is so i was like talking all my younger fans like well you know and so i thought it was like a weird foursome but it's not okay never mind but in my dreams i mean that would be awesome does she ever come to set she's never been to set she's so busy i know like being in the taylor swift videos Is she still the highest paid woman on television? No. Grey's Anatomy girl.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Damn. But close. But close, yeah. She's like, is it the 20th season or something of SVU? It's insane. Something crazy. Oh my gosh. She's amazing.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yeah. Good for him. He's like, I don't care if this show gets canceled. I'm good. No, no, no. We're good. Oh gosh. We'll be like, oh, I'm this season of Younger.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Okay. So for everyone, what is, since, okay. so if you don't watch younger but although most of our lady gang does and we have a secret facebook group where we are like constantly talking about the show so there's a secret facebook yeah you have to answer questions about us to get accepted it's like a cult yeah oh my goodness so if you want to be in it you better listen to all 165 episodes okay so if you don't know the the whole premise of the show is that um sutton's character is much older but she can't get the job she wants So she pretends to be younger and she ends up getting the job
Starting point is 00:18:10 and then she has to lie to like everyone in her life and she dresses younger, air quotes. So my question is, what is one thing you've worn on the show and what is one thing, Jack and Becca, that you've worn in real life that is younger that you're guilty of wearing but you still love it no matter if you're 30s? That's our new thing for being in your 30s. I had a moment.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Just say 30s. I'll start because I had a moment in the airport on the way to New York a couple days ago. I was gifted this super cute hat, like a really like the um what's the style oh that's when stefani it's in your bag i just saw it yeah but what's the style of that it's like band leader yeah oh my gosh yeah and so i was like stefani warren that ain't no holler back girl but i was like channeling like fashion blogger and i like you know i like saw so many girls wearing it and looking so cute and so i was like you know
Starting point is 00:19:00 what i'm gonna travel in this like you should travel in a hat it's so cute i swear to god i was walking through the airport and halfway through my walk to the gate i caught a glimpse of myself in a in a reflection of like a newsstand yeah i was like you're too fucking old to wear that hat you look ridiculous and i was like and i saw fast forward to being like in my 60s and i was like i can't be this and i took it off and i've yet to put it back on i almost left it in my hotel room like it's i can't do it i would totally wear that hat you can have a photo shoot yeah but not in life
Starting point is 00:19:34 you can't wear it in life you can wear a lot of things in photo shoots but not in real life that's what I felt like most jets you have one I mean you do wear a crop top
Starting point is 00:19:40 like you're in 16 I know but everybody knows about the crop top I think it's like a weird thing because now with all these trends that are coming back if you wore them the first time you're not allowed to wear them
Starting point is 00:19:49 the second time so I mean they know that I love a good chunky like grandpa sneaker like love a good chunky grandpa sneaker I call that the ugly sneaker it's the official title
Starting point is 00:20:00 but I know but I did just buy a pair of like platform sneakers that I used to wear. Like Spice Girls stuff? Yeah, they have these Nike ones that are like the big platform ones like the Rocket Dogs
Starting point is 00:20:09 that I used to wear back in the day. Oh, wow. But we wear Rocket Dogs on set when we... Have to be taller? Yeah, like if our heels are killing us. So we put on Rocket Dogs.
Starting point is 00:20:19 That's genius. Did not know that Rocket Dogs still existed. Oh, yeah. I always really thought that a good invention would be to do an Ugg boot with a platform
Starting point is 00:20:26 because on set you could do that. They do have Ugg boots with platforms. Right? Let's do it. It's called the Set Ugg. they just made
Starting point is 00:20:33 I really thought of this they just made high heel no Crocs nevermind my bad what's something
Starting point is 00:20:38 you've worn on the show and you've taken it home and you've been like I'm not my character first of all I can't pull off anything that Liza wears because Liza wears
Starting point is 00:20:46 some cray cray shit she really does and like every time I come on set Hilary will say okay well you wear that in real life and I always go
Starting point is 00:20:53 oh hell no absolutely not I like your knee high situation though and you have great legs but it's funny because like i don't like i cover my legs up all the time like i can't like in new york city are you going to
Starting point is 00:21:06 wear like a little mini skirt yeah right no no so i uh no but yeah the knee high situation oh my gosh all right yeah but i'm never gonna wear that no but you get to do it on tv i just did it's kind of cool you can like not you express yourself but you can get that out of your system in a sense like on tv and you're like okay i did it but i don't need to do it yeah yeah yeah but i feel like hillary has really cute clothes too unfortunately you have to wear like the younger version and like they make it like extra like you're like extra fashion young of course and then hillary like just always looks great like i feel like she's really cute who styles the show well it's uh petfield oh from sex in the city yeah but it's but uh she's sort of our wardrobe
Starting point is 00:21:46 um consultant overseer like yeah goddess of fashion and then jackie dimitrio is our um wardrobe guru who who's the one who really puts us in all but no like hillary wears like some amazing amazing things but i'm always like how does uh how does this character afford these clothes no but we do try to do a lot of high low stuff so i'll be like oh this is zara and then this is you know gucci so like you do okay so i came uh i read a new term called age queer oh yeah who came up with this it's on their show oh that's why but maybe i don't know if we came up with it but but we talk about it we yes so age career is like you just like you're all the ages you're no specific yes so i want to know have you ever lied about your age and to who only time i
Starting point is 00:22:34 ever lied about my age was when i was like 17 trying to get into an 18 that's what i was gonna say like 18 year old bar not even a drink just did like dance i just want to be here I just want to dance. Put your purse in the middle and let's dance. I want my pocketbooks and shoes. Like I do every Saturday night. No. But yeah, that was the only time.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Becca? I haven't lied, but like when people in passing will be like, oh, but you're like 22. Sometimes I won't correct them. I'll be like, you're so right. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I was recently on vacation in Europe. And for some reason. You were recently on vacation?
Starting point is 00:23:13 Oh my God. That seems crazy. For some reason, everybody thought I was in my early 20s. And I'm like, does everybody just look older here? And I'm just, I don't know. It could have been the platform shoes. It could have been your outfit from younger that you took from Sunset. You know, I'm just trying to be 22 forever.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Yeah, but I'm like, I won't correct them. Sure, I'm 23. Just go with it. Yeah. I have a story of our mutual ex-boyfriend. When I started dating him, I told everyone I was 22 and I was 24. And then I made him get me a birthday cake and put a 21 candle on it. that is so sad i know it was pathetic i can't believe it didn't work out i can't believe you
Starting point is 00:23:49 just two years lied by two years 22 because they were like he was way younger they were like 19 20 21 and so 24 he was younger than i am yeah like 24 felt so old when you're hanging out with 20 year olds you're like i'm so old now i would like killed me 24 and lying like i would be like i'm 28 like uh yeah anyway but now we just say we're 30s so who knows okay what age do you feel and what age do you act i feel like i'm 17 still that's sad what age do i act depends yeah depends on what i'm doing because i'm 43 so sometimes i'm nope use your words i'm 40 you're 40s 40s i don't i like my age i i feel like i've earned every what you don't have by the way. Yeah. Yeah. I need my skin to look like yours forever. I used a blurring cream this
Starting point is 00:24:45 morning. I bought something that said it blurs. I was like, how does that work? Um, but no, I, sometimes I feel like I'm in my forties. Sometimes I feel like I'm in my twenties still. I don't know. Cause it, a lot of it is like, there are certain things you're like, Oh, mortgage and oh yeah and it feels like that's like oh i'm an adult and then some things where you're like you have kids right i have a 16 month old oh but my question is like when you become a mom do you suddenly feel like an adult for the first time you do because you're you're there's responsibilities that you have to like feed something yeah not i mean i have to keep something alive i know i have two dogs and a and a child they live in my house and i'm like
Starting point is 00:25:32 and i'm like solely responsible to like feed these things and that yeah yeah are there times though where you also you're like i don't know what i'm doing and i feel like i'm too too young for this in a sense and like how am i a mother yeah oh yeah but i but i will say i'm grateful to be doing this now because i think if i had done it 10 years ago i would definitely feel that way but i do feel like i'm really really really glad i waited until my 40s to be a mom so inspiring though were you pregnant during the show at all she's adopted oh okay well that's so i didn't have to hillary's pregnant though yeah no so we we heard about uh she told us about it midway through the season that's great and so she she had this like little secret she was hiding like
Starting point is 00:26:16 throughout the whole season cute and her guy matthew is he's awesome so cool and so talented he's like a songwriter and like wrote one of my favorite songs of all time remember yesterday when you're getting your makeup and i was like do you know this song suitcase by matthew coma oh yeah that was it oh anyway so good story short um okay so but also i want to ask you like in our 30s our 30s every single day someone's like when you're gonna have baby when you're gonna have baby when you're gonna have baby was it hard for you to be like i gotta focus on my career because i don't think women can have it all all at the same time like that just seems overwhelming and you were like climbing at that you know i was always on the fence about whether
Starting point is 00:26:52 or not i wanted to have kids so it i didn't feel the and i was always incredibly career driven so um honestly i i didn't the the switch didn't happen for me until i met my husband yeah and we didn't meet till i was 39 we got married when i was 39 and so i um when we met i went oh oh now i understand what family's about and now i'd like to do this with you right so i but i didn't i hadn't felt that way before i wasn't the type of person that was like i'm gonna have a kid no matter what right i was like i think i only want to do this if i feel like it's the right person when you guys met were you like you did he always want to have children and then you were sort of like i don't know was it a conversation i think he was on he was always on the fence too yeah um and we
Starting point is 00:27:41 just we were kind of like i don't our lives sort of changed when we met and so we were like oh maybe this is something i think he was in the same sort of um mindset that i was um and then we kind of just started right away like we're like all right let's give this a go and then and then we and then our paths sort of led us to adopt ending up adopting yeah how long was that journey for you guys we were 39 when i got married and then we started like trying to get pregnant right and then we're like oh damn it this isn't working and then we tried fertility stuff and they were like, damn it, this isn't working. And, um, and then I was, I had like a breakdown in Tokyo and, uh, we weren't, we were in Tokyo. So, and I was like, I can't do this. And that,
Starting point is 00:28:26 there was like that pressure of you try, you try your whole life to get to not get pregnant. Yeah. That's like the most ironic. Oh, it's so, it's so pissed. I was so annoyed by it. Um, you try your whole life to not get pregnant. And then the minute you try to get pregnant, you're like, it's impossible. There's like a one second window. And, uh, so that was, that was like the most frustrating thing for me. And, um, if that's like my only advice for any woman in their thirties or is to freeze your eggs, it's like the stupidest thing that I wish I had done. It's not stupid. It's so I is because you, there's this time thing and you just don't want to be up against, it's so annoying because you're like, you're like, wait. So, um, that's like my
Starting point is 00:29:10 only advice to younger women is to say so just take that off the plate yeah so that you don't have to like chance just like have that in your back pocket and you're like it we're good right and um anyway and then our process adoption process sort of happened um as soon as we sort of flipped the switch to that it all everything kind of opened up for us and where where everything else was incredibly difficult the our adoption process was um incredibly positive and and see and very and it was yeah for us it was just so clear that this little soul was supposed to be our daughter yeah right yeah and so as soon as she came into our lives we're like oh because in my mind i was like why isn't it working why isn't it working it was like oh it's because there she was
Starting point is 00:29:53 waiting yeah so i was like oh yeah that's amazing the last thing before we go to the game is um p.s that was so beautiful yeah thank you for being so vulnerable because we actually have a lot of different subgroups speaking of the lady gang facebook group we have a lot of subgroups and one of our lady gang subgroups is, um, the lady gang trying to conceive. And it's like a group of all the women that are, and we also have lady in pregnancy, but there's this whole group of women and so many people don't talk about it and you feel such shame, you know? And I think it's just so beautiful that you could open up like that. And I think a lot of our girls were really appreciated because a lot of them are going through that. And so it's beautiful. It's a very,
Starting point is 00:30:27 it's a very vulnerable, frustrating and yeah, you know, it's yeah. And I could go on and on and on and on about it but it's um we'll save that for the sub no problem the last thing um what has it been mentally like playing this character when i don't how am i gonna say this like do you know what i'm trying to say like how how has it been when you have to be on screen and there you're supposed to be doing like younger has it been a head trip for you every season i go through this uh every season like i feel pretty good every day yeah i'm like oh yeah you're gorgeous like you're doing it life but then you have to play this like young young young young young age yeah and as each season goes on it becomes more of a challenge but um i uh i definitely every season
Starting point is 00:31:12 about halfway through the season i i'm like you know because you wake up at five in the morning and you're getting your makeup on and you're staring at yourself in this mirror i'm like god damn it you know it's like how the hell am i gonna pull this off and you know you look on social media and people are like if anyone believes that she's in her 20s then I'm and I'm like you know what you guys suck so it's like you know whatever it's it's a television show and it's um and it's uh it's a fan it's a fantasy right and um I don't look in the mirror and think oh yeah I'm 27 I'm like oh yeah I totally am pulling this off but it's uh yeah it's definitely been challenging especially for someone like me who i don't um i it's not i i barely leave the house looking at
Starting point is 00:32:02 myself in the mirror like i don't think of right i'm not super focused on appearance or like how i look or any of those things um but so it's it's definitely a bit of a trip every season i go through this like really insecure i'm like yeah and i feel like the whole you know the show like hinges on this thing right so I'm like oh man like how how do I um sort of navigate this thing yeah because there's already so much pressure on women in entertainment to like look perfect and stay young forever and then the fact that you have to play a character I know like it's so insane it is insane and it's like I'm like and I and I pride myself on you know I I don't want to i i don't feel as an actress to have to um chase youth like i i'm really excited about uh getting
Starting point is 00:32:50 older and like what that means and aging and you know i'd like to age gracefully or you know i haven't had any work done i'm like trying to like be like natural and but then at the same time every season i'm like i gotta i gotta get botox what do i do and i'm like just relax you know so i'm like trying really hard to like you know navigate this thing but it's um it's it's really tricky it's hard for sure okay so our game today is called younger or yuck and we mean yuck with like all the love in the world it's like yuck but like you're still great um and it's a it's a game like would you date younger okay okay so people yes okay so i'm gonna name if we were single young hollywoods if we were single i hope i know these people um that's exactly what jack
Starting point is 00:33:36 jack doesn't know anyone okay great we're like jack beyonce and she's like who um so i'm gonna name all these like all cuties from young hollywood and you just say it's like a essentially the younger television show okay great younger yuck are you ready great okay harry styles oh no i don't want to say yuck because he's so cute not for me okay i'm gonna say younger i'll say younger i'm also saying younger because i want to steal some of that gucci from this closet on my way out we probably wear the same size pants um brooklyn beckham
Starting point is 00:34:16 is he legal i know he's too young is he like 16 how old is he elena if he's not 21 we won't ask I think he's 21. Is he? Gosh. He's cute. We're so old. If Posh Spice's son is 20, I don't know. There's no way he's that old.
Starting point is 00:34:33 19. Okay. No. No, no, no. Too young. Too young. Too young. Okay, fine.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Cradle. Cole Sprouse. Younger. I love him. I don't know who that is. I have no idea who that is. How do I know this? He's like the two Sprouse twins that are on...
Starting point is 00:34:46 He was on Suite Life with Zack and Cody. Yeah, they're on a little Disney show. This is where I'm... Oh, he's so cute. Oh, okay. All of these kids are making me... they're in comfort they're too young okay this is where i'm like the old grandma i think he's cute i do have a funny story though um at the met gala this year i was there for just for press
Starting point is 00:35:05 and um i'm watching him come in it was like the first time he'd come with lily or whatever his co-star in riverdale oh you are okay all right okay so they say babe so they posed together right and then lily had this like big train so she walked up to like do her photo and i think like cole had looked at so many matt gala photos of like you know a rod and like tom brady like just looking suave and like looking up at the woman as she takes her photo because they do the wide shots yeah he was macking it and posing like his life depended on it was a vogue cover shoot honey like he was in his pose he's like he was like looking at her and like looking at like and he like it's like he knew everyone was taking the wide shot like he had practiced he had rehearsed
Starting point is 00:35:48 for him he's a good publicist yeah he was ready to be like because a lot of the times yeah a lot of times the guys that come with the women they kind of just like they don't know what to do but he was like he was like i'm a star and i'm watching my girl it was amazing love it okay timothy chalamet i don't know he's 21 i like him who's that he's he's from um call me by your name yes he's so talented i don't i mean i'd be his mom yeah i'd be his mom i'd be his mom it's hard I mean, it's just for fun, everyone. Oh, jeez. He's so cute.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Because he's, like, quirky. I like the quirky. I do, like, who does he look like? Kind of like Adrian Brody? Oh, Adrian Brody. That's, like, a young. I like quirky. Well, so the game's going well.
Starting point is 00:36:31 Are you going to say younger or yuck? I don't know. Here's how I'm going to wrap my mind around this. Yeah. I'm going to say. If you were 20. If I'm in a bar. No, if I'm in a bar and I'm, like, a newly single woman.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I love that you're, like, giving. I do. It's just to get it on the podcast. But I have to give it context. I was like, if we're in a dark bar and I'm a newly single woman for some reason at, you know, 30 something, and there's like this cute, charming guy like chatting me up, am I going to have like a makeout session with him? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:55 Probably. Absolutely. Okay. So younger. I could do that. Okay. I'm still his mom. Shawn Mendes.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Younger. I love him. Hot, hot, hot. I also couldn't pick him out of a lineup. He's hot. Why don't I know who any of these younger... You're not in it at all. No.
Starting point is 00:37:10 He's also very young. I mean, I like his music. It isn't in my blood. Sean Landis, he's Canadian. He's very tall. Oh, no, he doesn't do it for me. He's very tall. Even if I was 20 again.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Are you kidding me? He's so cute. He's too all-American for me. Okay, last one. Embarrassingly. They all make me, like, nervous, because I'm like, oh, well, they're so sweet. They're young. I feel like they're getting home in time for curfew.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Well, they better. I just hope they turn out okay. Okay, last one. Charlie Puth. Who? What? I love you. I love her.
Starting point is 00:37:44 You just want attention. I like that song. Here's what I'm going to say. I know someone who went on a couple dates with him. He's cute. Really nice guy. A gentleman, but also his music. He's a genius.
Starting point is 00:38:00 He has perfect pitch. He hears music all day long around him. He's like a composer. That makes me excited. That's talent. talent is attractive he writes and I think produces the most of his music so like he plays
Starting point is 00:38:17 something like 15 instruments and so when you hear his song he's also playing the piano and the guitar and everything I love a musician I love me some Today's Hits but I don't know who sings what maybe it'll be on Now
Starting point is 00:38:33 55 one day Today's Hits that's amazing oh my god you're just as cute in person When we come back, Sutton's going to help you figure out your lives. Oh, my gosh. Hey, ladies. Funk it.
Starting point is 00:38:48 Ask the Lady Gang. And we're back. So, today's hit, honey. Today's hit, honey. So old. No, it's so funny. When I go on Spotify in the morning and I'm like, oh, I'll just play like Top 40. What's hot?
Starting point is 00:39:01 And I'm like, what is this? Like, who are all these people? Is this what people think is hot right now? I got into my husband's car. Where's Matchbox 20? I got into my husband's car. Hatchpaw's 20. Hatchpaw's 20.
Starting point is 00:39:10 He's, like, so much hipper than me when it comes to just, like, music and just anything, really. And so I get in his car, and his SiriusXM, like, presets, it's all genres of music. I can't even tell you what they are. Like, one was, like, dance chill music. Oh, I love the chill series. But I'm like, why is my husband, like, a 20-year-old? Like, this is so hip. I don't even know what this is.
Starting point is 00:39:34 And anytime someone comes out with a new album that I've never even heard of the artist, he's like oh my god this album that ages that makes me feel like the little old lady who listens to like top 40 on Spotify there is a really good new Backstreet Boys song I have to say I told you about it don't go right into my heart it is so
Starting point is 00:39:51 good did you see the video no oh the video is like old school Backstreet Boys I appreciate it so much they didn't like come on to the scene trying to be like oh you know what we're gonna reinvent us as old Backstreet Boys I'm gonna Kevin's gonna wear a bucket hat and we're gonna do a dance break
Starting point is 00:40:07 Like, we're 40s, and we don't care, and, like, we're back. It's so good. Wait, I have a Broadway nerd question I meant to ask. Oh, okay. When you were... I'm like, I'm ready. Coming up... You're like, I have no idea who Charlie Puth is, but I know about Bette.
Starting point is 00:40:22 First of all, I just saw Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly! Have you seen her yet? Yes. She's a beast. I saw her the day before she won her Tony. Really? Yes. And it was, like, it was such an event.
Starting point is 00:40:32 It was incredible. I loved it. She's 72. Oh, yeah. I mean, she's doing dance breaks. Anyways, when you were coming up in the business, who did you see on Broadway and you were like, that's who I want to be, that's the career I want? Oh, gosh. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I just sort of admired, like, voices and – because I grew up in – I was born in Georgia but then went to high school in Michigan and it was before the interweb. Yeah. So I was, like, the only access I had to Broadway were through, you know, cast recordings or the Tonys. Yeah. That was it. and um so i was i was like obsessed with leia salonga like i loved her voice and i loved pat lepone oh yeah i was like i kind of but then as far as careers and stuff i just wanted um i don't i don't know if there was one that i was trying to like emulate i sort of blazed my own
Starting point is 00:41:22 well you kind of did because you were like you really were like the chorus girl who yeah like in thoroughly modern millie you danced your ass off danced high kick for your life not for the life of me for all my college auditions you did yes a song from fairly modern millie like i would belt out with your voice in my car like a crazy person so it's like that's the weird i just realized that and remember like so you're not nothing the life of me yeah it's a good song i went to that show with my first husband good for you that's nice you were great he wasn't so great marriage not so much marriage didn't work out you were fabulous okay okay so for this part of the podcast we have our listeners writing questions and we give them questionable advice
Starting point is 00:42:04 to try to help their lives you might be better at it than yeah hopefully okay so our first question comes from kg she says my 20 year old best friend has been dating this 27 year old divorce guy for over a year now he has a myriad of other problems but their relationship seems unhealthy and has a really and the relationship has really strained our friendship she's the girl who says she's going to break up with him and then doesn't come home that night. She also missed
Starting point is 00:42:30 my birthday celebration to be with him. She knows I don't like him but should I try maintaining my friendship with him? First of all, no one wants to come to your birthday celebration.
Starting point is 00:42:37 So take that out. If you're having a birthday celebration. No, she's still 20. Girls that are 20 still go to birthdays. Oh. And you can still enjoy birthdays.
Starting point is 00:42:46 I definitely never. I hate when people invite me to have birthdays. Birthday months. Oh, I don't like a birthday month. No, but I kind of agree. I'm not a big...
Starting point is 00:42:54 It's not like everybody has one. Everybody has one. If you want to have a birthday party, you can have it, but don't be mad when people don't come because I'm not coming to your birthday party. And if you throw a big birthday dinner, you have to pay for it. This is a major sidebar, and we'll get back to the question. You have to pay for it.
Starting point is 00:43:12 You don't go thinking that everybody's going to pay for your dinner. No, no, no. You're paying for everybody's dinner. Here's the other thing I realized. There's a very specific type of person who uses the term birthday week. Like, it's my birthday week. No, that's what I'm saying. Or birthday month.
Starting point is 00:43:25 It's like, or I mean, birthday month, that's not even okay. But like birthday week, like if you are the type of person who uses that, let's reevaluate. You're also not allowed to have more than one birthday celebration. Yeah. Yeah. I get mad when people, I get upset when people get upset that I've forgotten if I missed their birthday and they get really upset that I'm like, oh dude, I, cause some people take their birthday so seriously and I'm like, I don't.
Starting point is 00:43:50 And so it's, yeah, it's weird. I've had fights with people because I've forgotten their birthday. And I'm like, I can't do that. I hate my birthday so much I go out of the country every single year. I'm like, I don't want anybody to do anything for me. I don't want the obligation. Get me out of here. I want a quiet dinner with, like, just my husband.
Starting point is 00:44:08 Yeah. Anyway, so maybe we should answer this. Back to Kay. Sorry, Kay. Well, my advice for anybody is that friendship is more important than any guy, I think. but you have to you know if you have a friend who's in a situation where you're like i really hate this guy it's you kind of have to wait it out because if you insert yourself and you're like dude i don't like your boyfriend or whatever then that's only going to put a divide between you have
Starting point is 00:44:41 to be there for that for your friend i think and then you kind of have to wait it out and then and then if it becomes so unbearable that you're like well this is unhealthy for me then i don't know you might have to distance yourself from that friend but i i think you have to wait it out until the friend brings it up yep well she'll end up resenting her yeah like if you're gonna put your opinion into her relationship even if it's right she'll end up resenting you of course and it'll like it'll ruin your friendship yeah 100 okay i believe in friendship karma too because I think that when you get very judgy and on a pedestal and you like, not a pedestal, but like on a soapbox and like you really try to preach to a friend and you're like, can't
Starting point is 00:45:20 understand why they're in this situation. A lot of the time, a couple months, a couple years come down the road and like it's reversed and you're in a situation and you're going to want the same empathy and gentleness that you hopefully gave to the friend and the other, you know, it's like, it's tough. Yeah. So just put yourself in her shoes. You're going to be there. All right.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Second question comes from Evelyn. Evelyn says, I recently met a really interesting and charismatic gentleman at a corporate event. So sexy. I know. Corporate event. A nice older gentleman. At a corporate event. With a buffet.
Starting point is 00:45:58 I know. Ooh. I see a name tag in there. Yeah. Totally. Given that we have a professional relationship and we have not spoken since the event, besides professional work email exchanges, I don't know how to approach this. please give me some advice on how i can hang out with him again i just want to know more about him
Starting point is 00:46:15 we'll probably internet stalk him for a while he's married he has a girlfriend do a deep deep internet stalk for sure one internet stalk i feel like maybe in one of the emails have like a beginning couple sentences where you can open it up to talking about personal life but not anything like do you have a boy a girlfriend yeah but like i hope you had a great weekend um and say something about yours like something very like like i just got a wax it is such a tricky thing with like the work related thing yeah yeah like benign but personal and then if he responds with strictly personal perfect i mean strictly professional then you you know it's out leave it alone yeah you threw it out there would it be bad to follow him on
Starting point is 00:47:07 instagram can't you can't you like instagram you can instagram stalk without following yeah but like maybe that's kind of like putting it out like dipping your toes in and then if he follows you and then maybe that can be where you get sort of right we forget though that like a lot of grown men don't do instagram especially a charismatic gentleman that's true that's true but that's a good idea if he does yeah i like that i always think like if a guy wants to date you he's gonna to try to date you you know you she's probably feeling well this is the thing i've done this a bunch of times he has your email too girl you put yeah maybe you like make a little bit of a reference that you're interested and then if he takes the bait then go with it but if not then
Starting point is 00:47:48 like give it up wait for the next gentleman pansies and like don't yeah want to make the first move so all right okay all right last question comes from kate anonymous she says i hooked up with this guy from tinder my first and ever wait my first and last ever random hookup you'll have more it's fine he quote unquote finished after literally two seconds and then was really embarrassed and became angry i told him it was all right and he shrugged it off got out of bed gathered his things and walked right out of my door without another word to me while i was still in bed since then he will not leave me alone about wanting to come try again quote unquote he texted me repeatedly so i told him never to contact me again and blocked his number
Starting point is 00:48:28 he found me on another app so i blocked him there oh no i have a scary feeling in my gut that he's unwell somehow what can or should i do this is intense nothing has ever happened that's worthy of an of officially reporting but i'd also like for it to never go that far how do i keep him away should i be scared or am i overreacting if you feel it in your gut you're not overreacting i agree like that's that's god i never had to deal with tender uh it's not the best i like i used to pronounce it as tender which makes it seem so nice that's what i just said tender no it makes it sound almost like tender when you say it is it is it what is it tender tender they need to make tender for like nice people
Starting point is 00:49:16 they want to snuggle on tinder or tender yeah i want to give you compliments will you braid my hair and then they put it was tender yes I feel like I mean I'm a psychopath and I always think I'm gonna be murdered and I always think I'm
Starting point is 00:49:36 gonna have a home invasion I mean knock on wood like I'm a crazy person so I'm overly cautious I would honestly maybe try to spend a couple weeks with a friend if he
Starting point is 00:49:46 knows where you live if you guys had hooked up her house yes because she said he left very angry I think that I might actually spend a little time if he like while he's still actively kind of yeah coaching you on these apps i i would or have a friend stay with you if you live alone and like just be really super careful because
Starting point is 00:50:06 he seems like he is unwell maybe a little cray cray he's probably embarrassed and wants to like make it right and the fact that he keeps contacting her after she blocked him like that that's yeah like did you have any creepy stalkers or do you have any i guess we shouldn't talk about them right i know this is this is the place well like on broadway like there's super fans who come to every single show definitely some super fans um but most of them most of them are young young like teenage girls yeah who are like super sweet yeah and um and and most i have let me think about this um my mo is to be nice and approachable as possible but i i boundary but boundaries yeah And if I'm spending more time talking to fans than my family, we're in trouble.
Starting point is 00:50:56 So I actually, yeah, I actually, um, cause a lot of, a lot of fans want to be, want to get to know you and want to be your best friend. And I, and I'm like, I, and so I, I would do the stage door, um, a lot. And then, and then I had to sort of, I sort of stopped because it was becoming, um, I was spending too much. It's draining. It's very draining. And then, but, but a lot of fans expect that that's part of their, um, the price of admission.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Oh yeah. They get very angry. Yeah, they get very angry if you don't do the stage door. And I was like, but I'm trying to survive and do eight shows a week and give 100% on stage. Your voice can't even take it. We just had a live event, and Elena lost her voice, and she was just working with us. Yeah, it's so hard. Nothing is harder than doing eight shows a week.
Starting point is 00:51:42 And so I'm trying to give 100% at work, and then I also want to give whatever I have left to the people at home. So it's hard. But fans don't understand that sometimes. and they get and then mostly it's parents get pissed and I get really angry
Starting point is 00:51:56 letters from parents really yeah still like so pissed off that I didn't talk to their kid what
Starting point is 00:52:01 and I'm like I'm so sorry I'm so sorry I don't know what to tell you but I was on stage yeah and I feel like
Starting point is 00:52:08 I did my job I did my job yeah you know so before we go I want to know how you came up
