Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time for a quickie. Podcast one presents the Lady Gang, the Hollywood girl posse with Lady Gang Quickie. Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Let's make this quick. Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to Lady Gang Quickie. I'm Becca here with Jack and Kelty. Hello.
Starting point is 00:00:20 Can you see my gray hair from there? No. Look how bad it is, you guys. I see a few strands. A few? It's like half of my head. but it blends in with the blonde it blends with the blonde you know what i want to try have you seen it on like tiktok it's like the stamp of white powder that you can like put on top of the
Starting point is 00:00:40 gray to like make it look like a highlight oh oh yeah i think that that's a scam i feel like i have a lot of those products and none of them really crush it yeah i mean they definitely make it less aggressive but i don't understand i think they work for dark where's the upkeep what's happening in your life. The problem is this, my hair grows like a weed. So fast. So I am not going to live at the freaking hair salon. God's fair. You know what I mean? Cause all this time you're like, I have a bob. Now I've hair down my ass. I have a bob. Now I've hair down my ass. My hair grows so fast. I can just get a really funny cut and then it grows out in like three months. And now I know the gray is that my grays now grow out very, very, very quickly.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I'm telling you, you can't really tell. You can't really tell. Thank you. Well, I got in the Uber this morning from the airport, and I just thought, you're an ugly hag. No, you're so beautiful. Thanks, guys. You're stunning. You really are so beautiful. Thanks. I have a little something, since this is the thankful quickie.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Yeah. First, I want to shout out and say, we're so thankful for the Lady Gang community. And I'm especially thankful for the Lady Ganger who gave me this tiny fedora. It is. It's a tiny fedora. It's so you. A tiny top hat at one of our shows. You never wore it that show.
Starting point is 00:01:52 i didn't i'm gonna wear it for this maybe because you had a tiara on so i'm like there's nothing more kelsey than a tiny little fedora beautiful little even with the like the stay on you know thing wow tiny little lady gang wonderful morning to you anyway i just want to say actually it's a little tight um thank you so much the lady gang community what a year what a year like we've been on tour we've hugged so many girls the thoughts that everyone goes into the feedback the you know all of it. And then with lady world on sale and that like tremendous reaction, it's just been amazing. Well, it's been good. Cause 2022, we took a year off kind of from like, we did getting out there and meeting people. So it feels really good. And I feel popular again, not to get all
Starting point is 00:02:36 wicked on you, but I just learned today that that's from wicked. Wow. Wow. Jack, I don't really know wicked. She only knows Mr. Mistoffelees, which I heard the other day. How, where i was on a show weird i don't know what show but i was like ah mr mistoffelees my next what's wrong you know what actually i thought about mr mistoffelees a lot um because okay i know this is crazy but you know how halloween just happened so kelly and mark did you know live with kelly yeah i'm like kelly and regis um just and kathy regis and kathy so they did their costume thing and she went as ray gun the break dancer and he went as the pole vaulter with the big penis oh that's a guy in our neighborhood who did the pole vaulter guy like
Starting point is 00:03:24 with kids around yeah oh yeah and then his son was michael phelps in a speedo it was wonderful oh my god so cute did he like what did he do for the dick part there was a flashlight so it was just so crazy because i thought about mr mustaflis because i feel like that's the first time you saw like a package on a man like i was like a big dick i was six it wasn't well they're all in their dance belts and so that everything's held up like she's googling i don't know you guys if you get a dog do you think you should name him mr mistoffelees i love that but it but it's cats but i guess it doesn't matter it doesn't matter oh they're all in unitards yeah they're like in unitards and like it's like a ballet dance i don't want to brag but that was my first professional
Starting point is 00:04:06 job at 19 was cast at the theater under the stars in houston texas it is weird it's the weirdest show i've ever done concept and the outfits we had to do this thing where we'd like lick our hand and like go like we had to do all cat mannerisms it was brutal how did that ever pick up i don't know entertainment was admitted okay we got a beautiful note before we started to what we're thankful for i've been saving this because i'm very thankful for um the book nerds and i'm very thankful that we're all now reading. Yeah. Um, and we got this message from Rachel at dog geared books. She's what's aims. Is it Idaho? I, I, a what, what state? Iowa. Okay. She said, um, you know, thank you so much for the lady game podcast. It brings me so much joy. I recently saw
Starting point is 00:04:55 Jack asking for book recs and one of the last episodes you talked about a little life, which was amazing. I know I've sent Kelty books before, but I want to send all three of you crossing you all like them so i've already read the two they sent me jack you can say what the note is and here's yours oh my gosh i also might be wrong about iowa i don't know any uh state uh abbreviations so please okay mine is called walking practice by dolky min and she said jack this is weird horror horror-y ish not like horror-ish horror like a horror movie ish and funny i've never even heard and it's wow it's a very short read 165 pages big text and pictures oh wow you could read that like right now while we're recording yeah that's so sweet okay i think you'll like
Starting point is 00:05:45 this jack too but it does deal with a few child related trigger warnings you might want to look up if you feel it might be difficult for you oh well it's called the god of the woods a novel by liz moore interesting out of the woods this is i'm into this if you're going to buy you know any yeah if you're gonna buy any books these are this is the person you want to like when a teenager vanishes from her adirondack summer camp two worlds collide i love vanishing teens me too as long as it's not a two and a half year old boy i'm good yeah yeah i got a book called burn i've already read it it was incredible i'm actually saving for chris um when we go on vacation but it's basically about like these campers go in for like their yearly um trip like hunting trip to the
Starting point is 00:06:34 woods and when they come back out to people there's like a civil war and everything and they're trying to like stay alive and then they find this girl and anyway it's so good i was like this is the best book i've read one of the best books i've read all year i want to read that wait i need to say what mine is a shape-shifting alien finds himself stranded on earth and disabled by gravity to survive they'll need to practice walking and what better way to walk than to hunt for food and then he hunts has an ill-fated encounter and he begins to question why they must what they must do to survive
Starting point is 00:07:02 and understand why humans also fight to live wow looks like we've got did you ever read Clara and the Sun the one that Kelty told us was so good that I read and loved also no you think she would like I love it it's a I best friend oh but is it like it's a little some darkness
Starting point is 00:07:18 no I mean it's kind of dark like when you think about like what what is yeah yeah it's like it's not dark Is it like the movie Her? It doesn't say horror-ish. Yeah. It doesn't say horror-ish. There's a book for everyone.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Books are amazing. They are. Okay. Wow, that was really nice. So cute. I know, so cute. I love it. Okay, so this is the annual Thankful Quickie when we, instead of complaining about life,
Starting point is 00:07:38 turn into fully gratuitous, beautiful, thankful bitches. Jack, what's the first thing you're thankful for this year? I'm thankful for my relationships with my parents. And I'm thankful that I moved down to Orange County. It's been the best thing that I have ever done. Like spending time with my parents. We're currently living at their house. That's not the best thing in the world.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Very close quarters. But it's just been really nice. Like it's kind of like what we did during COVID. And Jared just got to bond with them. I was going to say, it feels like you kind of have always lived with them. Kind of. How does Jared feel about it? Like if my husband was like, we're going to like hang out 24-7 with my in-laws, that would be the end.
Starting point is 00:08:21 No, it's insane. I mean, listen, it's a very special circumstance with my parents. I mean, listen, Jared would prefer to not be there. Like, obviously, we say I need some Jack alone time. Yeah, he had like he does his own retreats and his little breaks. He's like, I am like I need like a break every once in a while. Yeah, but he thankfully with him and like being in the band and living in like a bus with 14 people on it, like he's very good at being adaptive and being able to kind of
Starting point is 00:08:47 just like fit into a situation without making it weird. I guess not a diva. he's not a diva there's only one diva in the relationship same with mine but is it me oh or is that a joke who could it be no but it's may but it's good i mean it's it's just been obviously it's not an ideal situation but i'm taking the good parts out of it and just being able to spend time with my parents and making like cute little memories like we put up our christmas tree and it was just really cute so that's one put up your christmas tree yeah wow i i'm definitely like well we don't have any decorations yet but i'm like a november 1st person yeah i think you know
Starting point is 00:09:27 it's annoying altogether the holidays like you know that i the way that i feel but i agree with the november 1st just dive into christmas because otherwise everyone's talking about how they can't wait to be able to put up their decorations just put them in the cup guys well time goes by so fast if you do it after thanksgiving then it's done yeah we have somebody that's like one of our neighbors that does the big blow up like they're insane they're really crazy like many many blow ups in one yard you like literally you can't just step a foot in their yard without a blow up dangerous it's insane but they do it for halloween and then i was like oh i can't wait for them to like put it up and they still haven't put it up yet it's so disappointing though because i feel
Starting point is 00:10:04 like if you're going to do sorry i know this is the thankful quickie and i appreciate everyone decorating but i'm gonna just complain about something it's really hard on my 8k type soul when you have blobs in your yard and they're not blown oh yeah like when they've deflated or they fallen or one of the arms is snaggletooth like it it's like then don't do it well some people deflate them for the day and then put them back up at night that is upsetting it is sad that's oh my god okay Becca what's your first thing you're thankful for this year oh you know probably my child, um, for the first time since having a child. No, I'm just kidding. Um, it's just, to be honest, I really dislike the holidays and having a child is making them more palatable
Starting point is 00:10:54 and seeing him enjoy things, seeing him. I also am thankful that now when Zach and I go spend time with our families, the focus is no longer on us and it's on him. So I can pretty much leave him sit in a corner read nap yeah drink whatever and I don't have to really like answer the questions like what are you up to these days because nobody cares anymore that's so true it's all about the kid do you like are you living your childhood vicariously through him at all because like now because I'm since we're like a little bit closer to having kids I'm like I can't wait to trick-or-treat with a kid like I can't wait to like set up a tree with a kid like it just like, that's, what's fueling my, I'm going to say something shocking. No, even as a child,
Starting point is 00:11:41 I didn't enjoy these things. I mean, that's not shocking. I'm not shocked at all. The shockness is zero. I actually, can I go on a tangent? Yeah. Okay. So I, hold on, let me put on my tank. Okay. Thank you. So I've had a lot of X, not existential. That's stupid. That's not the word for it, but I've had a lot of reflective moments. And I think, when did I become this way? How did I become this way? Whose fault is it that I am this way? And I was listening to an episode, um, a podcast episode and Jude Law was on, and he was kind of talking about there. They went on the tangent of like how, how sweet it is to see people unapologetically, like uncool and enthusiastic. Right. And then as life goes on, it gets stamped into you that you have to be like
Starting point is 00:12:29 the cool kid the cool kid the cool kid it's not cool it's not cool but I've made a written observation I am very enthusiastic at my house like with Ford I'm animated it's like I'm you know I'm very on it so he's not picking up anything for me scroogey vibes yeah I hide it from him yeah but my child when I tell you is also unaffected unexcitable unenthusiastic like I'm not kidding you we we will be playing with a ton of friends with their kids and everyone's like he's just like there not that he's empty but he's just watching everybody uninterested uninterested it takes so much to like pump him up yeah and I know that we were born this way so I really feel like I can stop fighting and this is like when they say that when you have children it really
Starting point is 00:13:21 shows you a lot about yourself yeah like this is just who we are I don't know what happened are either your parents like that yeah I would say is it low-grade depression that runs in the family it sure is but it's also we're not unhappy but we just sort of have a very hard time getting excited we're not excitable people yeah I don't know it's just nature versus nurture yeah it and what's really fun about it is that when you are excited, you know that I am. It is so fun. I live like I'm like 10 years in a lady gang. I'm counting down the moments where I'm like, Becca was really excited about this. And I live off that. Like it is, it's actually a better way to live. Well, yeah. Because like the bar is so high that, you know, you're not going to get there.
Starting point is 00:14:13 See, I get excited. I'm literally, I live my life being excited about what my next meal is going to be. I know you're good at it. You don't even have to worry about having a kid like, and you're going to, you're, you're no, my kid will for sure be like me. Exactly. Like it's just sort of, unfortunately my kid didn't wake up my child wonderment and excitement because my child was born without it. At least you've reflected on it. Stone cold. I love it. My girlfriends that see him all the time, all the time. They're like one day he's going to smile at me. No, that's also Zach. You didn't even look me in the eye. No, that's also Zaz.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Yeah, you guys are both. There's not like a... Effusive. We don't have this. What were you calling it with the head? No, the... Oh, the Zaz? No, you guys don't have the Zaz.
Starting point is 00:14:58 We don't have the Zaz. No. Whatever that... Yeah, we're lacking. Yeah. No Zaz. No Zaz. Sorry to tangent, but I just, it was an interesting, you know, observation.
Starting point is 00:15:09 So, you know. The Lady Gang. What are you grateful for Kelty? I'm grateful that I have in this year really come to terms with that. I'm never going to be an it girl. I've come to terms with it and it's changing my life. Can we just say, maybe you'll never be an it woman. It girl might have to be for women under 30. Yeah, no, but it took me to just call ourselves it women it took me till 42 to realize i wasn't gonna be an it girl something that i far exceeded the age limit for 12 years ago at least and i disagree i think you're now suddenly an it girl
Starting point is 00:15:55 that is not true i do i really do so i was complaining to our our friend sharon stone and she writes me like she's just she's your fairy godmother she really is and she writes me this text. Wait, did I tell you this already? No. Yeah. Or maybe you also put it on Instagram. You're right. Okay. But I just, I love it. And I actually have girlfriends that have asked for me to send them the screenshot so they could put it as their wallpaper. Thank you. Okay. So she says, have you ever Googled? Okay. Have you Googled what she said? Is it something or did she make it up? No, it's very psychobabble. So there's no way that it could be like, no, no, no. It's Cause she, okay. So I go, um, Hey Sharon, I'm doing good. I've been having some issues with
Starting point is 00:16:39 my ego, comparing myself and just letting myself feel down. Cause it feels like everybody's doing better than me. Hollywood is such a beast. And she goes, Oh no, don't ever do that. And don't forget that we never compete with girls who always get the good jobs. They always will. They always do just let it go. Some of them know everyone or something just be you somehow this place doesn't pick the happy normal us in the long run. You're never going to be in the wrong place either. Like at a P Diddy party, just know that piece we will maintain because we don't go bad ever. And then I was like, we will maintain because we don't go bad either ever is like so amazing. She goes, it's truly okay not to be the it girl. Then guess what? You're never out. Just
Starting point is 00:17:23 roll on through, stay in the biz, keep working, be humble and stay. Don't die. Don't overdose. don't get arrested. Don't be popular. Don't be special. Just work and be good and stay. We are the ones that live. Don't worry about them. They don't have old friends. Just be happy, happy, normal, bored, and lucky. Wow. That should be your mantra. Be happy, normal, bored, and lucky. Right? That's a good mantra. No, I just sort of wonder where like don't overdose came from. It just was sort of like, oh this is lovely and then like don't overdose yeah i mean it's a great it's a great point we could edit that for the poster but um but i like it it's kind of like that's what people do in
Starting point is 00:18:04 hollywood sometimes they lose their minds well it's not even well i like the the whole thing of kind of just like being a steady role because i feel like that's what lady gang is it's like you see all these podcasts that are super like sparkly and big and playing 5 000 cat venues yeah but there's always if you hit that high and if it's the higher you rise the faster you rise like the faster you're gonna fall so it's true we're steady no we're steady down here i'm really steady down here and like i look back at my life and i'm like you know what i've consistently worked in hollywood yeah as a dancer now on tv like i've been really lucky i'm happy i'm bored i've never been the it girl that's like oh my god we've got to get this influencer to be the girl at the like
Starting point is 00:18:45 it i've just been working yeah you know what i mean and i really for a long time wanted to be like number one on the list. And listen, I have the coolest job in Hollywood. So like, yes, there's an element that I am in it woman, but like, I'm okay with being fifth on the list and not always like winning everything and like being number one. And that is a revelation, not for a lot of people, but for me, I'm very thankful because I'm happier this year because of it. I love that. Okay. What's next, Jack? Um, on my grateful list, um, thankful list. I, and this is, I mean, I haven't done this yet and I've talked about it before, but just like, I'm thankful for nature and I'm going to get into it more next year. The little, the few times that
Starting point is 00:19:29 I did this year, it's, I've never felt more grounded and connected even going and drinking coffee out of my front yard, which is AstroTurf. So I guess that's not really nature, but like, I don't think that's what they mean when they're like, take your shoes off and ground on the plastic. No, it's definitely not on the AstroTurf, but like having a house that has a ton of plants, a ton of fruit and vegetables, a ton of just like, I mean, more than what my apartment complex had, like just being within at least that, I think that I've found like moments of gratitude and I just hope to be in more nature next year. I love it. I feel the best. I am thankful that Instagram is slowly dying. Um, I used to feel, this is the first year in 12 years that I haven't
Starting point is 00:20:15 felt every day this like overwhelming guilt or anxiety attached to needing to keep up in like that space yeah I don't know if it's an overwhelming like temperature gauge of the whole Instagram whatever I think it's a little bit of that but it's also a little bit of just me maturing and realizing that it's just not what I enjoy yeah I went to a the house of an influencer in Austin and it's something that we, I've always known about myself. Like these people who are doing it and doing it well are loving it most days. I mean, everybody has a tough day, but I'm like, if I have a hundred percent of the time annoying, like stupid interactions with this app and like trying to have a brand on it, why the have I been doing it for so long? And the answer
Starting point is 00:21:12 there's money, but also like now that there's not a lot of money to be made on Instagram anymore, it feels amazing. You can kind of, I know. And also I think the app is more enjoyable when you're not doing it. You're like, well, it's like, you're not trying to curate something. Like now I'm just like, you know what I like? F***ing memes. You know what else I like? Books. I follow all the book talks. Like I'm actually just niched in and hot tip. I did something incredible the other day on Instagram. I spent 10 minutes, you know, how all the, when you go on Instagram, I just want to see Ford. I just want to see your house. Like, I just want to see the people that I love. Like I want it to be like a photo album, you know? And I spent 10 minutes and
Starting point is 00:21:52 every time they suggested something, I clicked on the side and it was like, why are you showing me this? We show you things that you might like. And I put, don't show again. After that 10 minutes, my Instagram for the last like two weeks has been just people I actually want to see. involved. Yeah. And it stopped. I didn't know you could get rid of those. It stopped giving me like Sarah who's married to the NFL star and what she wore to game day. I don't care. It's giving me now like the guy that I did Rockettes with 15 years ago just got married. That's what I want to see, you know? So I think now that it is not like a place where you can make a ton of money and it's not a J O B I agree. Yeah. It's great. I feel the same thing about Tik TOK. Cause it's
Starting point is 00:22:32 like ever since I got shadow banned, like three years ago, everything is just like all my views suck. So I'm like, we have people posting our podcast clips. I don't do anything. And then every once in a while I'm like, Oh, that went viral. That's great. But like, I never, when I was on it, it was like so overwhelming. And that's why I feel like anybody that's a full-time influencer, like there's always like the chasing of like, what are you going to post? How's it going to go viral? This and this and that. And there's no, there's no like rest in that mentally. and I also made an observation I don't know if you guys feel this way either but when people post things stories specifically when they're just kind of going through their day or
Starting point is 00:23:09 whatever like I would say 99% of those things I'm swiping past because I don't give a shit so then I'm like obviously nobody gives a shit about what I'm posting so it gives you perspective to know that I don't really need to take a second and take a picture of that coffee in front of me not that I was ever that person but I used to feel bad for not being that person and it's like well, I don't even want to see people's coffee. And that's why the podcast is so amazing. This is the best parasocial relationship you can ever have is listening to a podcast. I love listening to other podcasts. I love making this podcast. I love the community of like this, like that feels so real. And I think it's the only reason that we've had success and we've been able to keep
Starting point is 00:23:47 doing it because we're like, we actually get together and like, I just love seeing you guys. And I love having these conversations and I feel like people get something out of it that actually is good and it's not just like well and we've also been doing the podcast before there were like social clips and stuff and before people were like trying to say like a yeah a phrase that's gonna go like viral or something like that so i think like our dna is kind of just having conversations rather than being like yeah how are you gonna say the thing yeah well and unfortunately we haven't been able to hide who we really are yeah on this podcast sadly like on instagram yeah that's true on instagram i'm like it's just a different girl you're a star baby i'm
Starting point is 00:24:23 a star baby okay my two things I'm a star baby I'm a star baby that's what I'm gonna name this episode I'm a star baby I'm a star baby star baby one word just say just call it star baby yeah star baby but one word yes yeah star baby um okay my last two things that I'm thankful for because i talk so much um i'm so so so thankful for my relationship with chris and i say this because i have complained about chris a lot on this podcast and i've been hard on him over the years i recently had breakfast with a girlfriend of mine who's been married now six or seven years and she's like we just kind of coexist like i don't really like him but it would be too hard to break up and like we have this whole life we have kids like all this stuff and so she's just
Starting point is 00:25:12 like existing i am like i'm loving i love chris knight i love him she's in the seven year itch though yes that's so normal and i was there too you were there too i got over and i was just like i'm in it and she was like she was like i have the ick i have the ick and i was like she's like can you ever come back from the ick and i was like yes you 100 can you get over the ick and then you go into infatuation yeah well i would disagree with that because i've had like not that i'm like in like a terrible place with zach but seven years we've been married and i think you can't get back the ick if you're married to somebody who's not receptive to communication communication yeah i know a lot of women who married men who are either they refuse to be
Starting point is 00:25:58 communicative and express their feelings or or receptive to what you're feeling um or they're just really like for lack of a better term they're just really emotionally not not there yeah not engaged so as long as your partner is somebody who could do that and if it's not somebody who could do that you better find somebody who could try to at least extract that out of your partner like a therapist yeah but it's a hopeless case when you're with somebody who well it's not willing to change anything yeah yeah i just i'm really happy and my last thing is that i just you know um i'm so happy i had my hysterectomy and i'm so happy i'm healthy it is night and day changing to you have health and energy and be alive and be able to like open your eyes in the morning and
Starting point is 00:26:41 not feel like exhausted and like you want to die. So yay. Yay for health. Under the night. Under. Remember that was her medical podcast. Yeah. Under the night. She just talked about her hysterectomy for years and years. Yeah. I didn't want to bring it up. I was almost like, don't do that. And then I was like, don't let the haters hate. That's the only thing I have to be thankful for. I'm so happy. That was a major surgery. I'm so happy. Okay. Well, I love you. I'm very thankful for you guys. Love you.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Love you. And we weren't here for a long time. We were here for a thankful time. Lady Gang is produced by Podcast One with podcasting production assistance from Steve Delameter, Derek Haley, editing by Jared Monaco, and social support from Kali Carrera, and Mastermind Evil Genius from Kelty Knight.
