Starting point is 00:00:00 From the red carpet to the runway, TV personality, stylist to the stars, and author Brad Goreski gets undressed in candid interviews with other celebs and friends. Each week they contemplate and celebrate fashion, pop culture, and life's random surprises. This is Brad Behavior with Brad Goreski. Happy Wednesday, everybody. Thanks for tuning in to Brad Behavior with me, Brad Goreski, on the Lady Gang Network. I have such a good Brad's Best for you this week. I think you're going to lose your minds at how random it is.
Starting point is 00:00:37 So let's get right into it. Number five. Well, this one's actually not very random. It should have actually been in the first week and it should have been number one. But anyway, here it is on the third week and you're going to want to go out and buy it. It's my husband, Gary Giannetti's New York Times bestselling book, Do You Mind If I Cancel? If you haven't picked up this book yet, you need to go and get it. It is so funny.
Starting point is 00:01:06 It is so heartwarming. It has been so well reviewed. She made it onto the New York Times bestseller list, honey. That's how good it is. We're so proud of him. A lot of people have been asking me online, does he read the audiobook? Yes, he does. And people have been loving it.
Starting point is 00:01:24 So you can go on any place where you want to buy a book, Amazon, Audible, all of those good places, and you can get yourself a copy of Do You Mind If I Cancel by Gary Gennetti if you don't have yours already. Number four, Timothee Chalamet. Just Timothee Chalamet. Just on his own. Yeah. Great.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Because he has been on a lot of red carpets recently promoting The King, I believe the show is called. And his style is just dreamy. I don't know what else to say. You know, he's also a very attractive young man. But I have to say, he wears clothes that make me so happy. Hader Ackerman, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, all kinds of incredible designers and really, really, really interesting colors, cuts, fabrics. He wears a boot. He's got those curls out. He's got that fresh skin i just love his style i find it very aspirational well i feel like he's very malleable you know what i mean you know malleable of course yeah like he just kind of like he can do so much yeah i feel like for me i mean i only kind of feel like i would fit like in one kind of area
Starting point is 00:02:40 i don't know how flexible if you guys don't know what will looks like he kind of looks like a superhero oh okay well i'll take it so i don't been my fashion is only spandex obviously well with guns like that it's got to find you've got to have a problem finding shirts to go over them people are like are you going to gym class after this aerobics i'm like no i'm just trying to find something to fit my arms that's right yes timothy chalamet i feel like some of the um the slimmer silhouettes might be a little difficult for you to pick, pull off. Yeah. However, you might be able to draw
Starting point is 00:03:15 some inspiration from his color palette. That's true. From his use of and incorporation of beading into his wardrobe. Okay. Definitely the silhouettes. Maybe take an accessory or two. Do you have a boot? Yeah. With a heel? No.
Starting point is 00:03:32 That's what I need. Alright. Next wardrobe piece is boot and heel. Writing it down. Timothy Chalamet. He's one of my favorites on the red carpet and I also really enjoy his acting but if you haven't
Starting point is 00:03:44 had a look at some of his recent red carpet looks please do yourself a favor and look him up especially if you're looking for some
Starting point is 00:03:51 fashion inspiration I find him very inspirational number three The Great British Baking Show everybody's favorite do you watch it?
Starting point is 00:04:01 oh you do I found something that Will watches I've seen some not as much as most people but yes I've watched it it's like a cultural
Starting point is 00:04:06 phenomenon right now it is such a treat it makes me feel like there is hope for humanity um it's so interesting too because you get so invested in not only who you want to win and who you like which kind of changes week to week because you there are only so many things you can control obviously when you're baking and And I honestly do not know how they do it under such time constraints. But the thing that amazes me the most is that everybody works so hard to win a plate. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Yeah. That's dedication. Like there's no cash prize. You get the title of star baker and a plate and some flowers. But that's it. But if it's truly your passion, if it's truly what you love, it's not about the money. It's not about the fame. But in America, on a game show, it's about the cash prize.
Starting point is 00:05:07 You're right. You're right. In the UK, it's about bragging rights, which British people don't really brag that much. Don't they, though? In a very polite way, in a sort of like underhanded way. I don't know. I feel like, you know, I'm part of the Commonwealth as well. I'm Canadian. So we kind of like shy away from too much attention, except for those of us with our own podcast. the great british baking show check it out and you'll be obsessed and watch every single season
Starting point is 00:05:38 we're always so sad when oh i just realized we have one episode left of the holiday edition that they just dropped on netflix so that's what i'll be doing tonight number two is fleece just the entire world of fleece the idea of fleece the idea of fleece the idea of like a fleece comforter or blanket um i have fleece pants that i wear at home oh i have fleece zip ups i do have fleece pajama pants they're the best yeah it's it's fleece season people it is if you haven't embraced it i i get really it's nice now in la because it's 80 you know like 75 80 degrees during the day but at night it really cools down to a solid like 50 maybe yeah which is very cold and very cold for us really cold yes and we need our fleece for that so um fleece i'm just you know i feel like
Starting point is 00:06:36 it's part of my canadian heritage it's part of who i am do you have a fleece canadian flag no but i could get one canadian flag fleece blanket yes yeah i feel like my sister could hook me up with something like that because whenever she comes to visit me she'll bring me something that's like um like a uh toronto mate no not toronto maple leaf toronto blue jays baseball hat or she'll bring me i think the last t-shirt she brought me which i i do actually wear to bed with my fleece pants um it says something like proud to be canadian on it or something like that so she always brings me like some sort of very canadian item of clothing so mandy i i would appreciate some fleece pajama pants maybe with canadian flags all over them or just a canadian
Starting point is 00:07:23 flag fleece blanket yeah christmas is coming right up so send to the podcast one offices that's right um and my number one this week is um alessia cara's ep this summer have you listened to it not yet but i do like her okay yes she's also canadian it's a very canadian commonwealth it's very yeah commonwealthy we've got the brits in there we've got canadians in there no australians this week i could have said maybe my album of the week was kylie minogue okay but it's not it's alessia cara who is canadian um so her ep is called this summer there are like six songs on it and i wish there were 20 more it is the perfect fall listening like every single song just makes you want to either cuddle up with somebody or you know make yourself a cup of tea or hot cider
Starting point is 00:08:21 or wear your fleece yeah you know pull out that cinnamon stick that cinnamon oh my god brought to you brad behavior brought to you by the just cinnamon in general yeah brad behavior is brought to you by cinnamon and fleece um but check it out if you haven't listened to it yet um my favorite it is what's on your mind it's track number two and the song october even though it's november we can still listen to a song called october is amazing so alessia cara this summer her ep check it out um also check out i think tanya and i are going to be going to see her on tour when she comes here um so check out alessia cara this summer her ep all right so that is brad's best for this week coming up next my instagram crush nick vile
Starting point is 00:09:13 hi everyone i'm here with a very special friend who um became a friend through podcasts actually I mean, we'd met each other at iHeart and had like, you know, kind of seen each other around. But we did Scrubbing In with Tanya and Becca. And there Nick and I like clicked and Nick actually slid into my DMs. I did. There's no hesitation. No, Nick really did slide into my DMs and said the sweetest thing, which was you said that you had watched the Rachel Zoe project with an ex-girlfriend of yours. and um really liked my style and we're happy that we met basically yeah i mean i was uh you were my
Starting point is 00:10:08 fashion muse i just remember watching it and i knew nothing about the show my my uh my girlfriend watched it you were the star of that show i do remember that i didn't you know i didn't know what i was watching that's debatable that's just my humble opinion from an outsider you know it's like i was the person who didn't know what i was watching but i remembered you right so take that for what you will thanks thanks nick um and i remember uh i thought i liked your style i was a kid growing up in the midwest i was always into fashion in the midwest there was like you know if you're into fashion and there needs to be a label right you're either gay or metrosexual and i was always like well why do we you know and so i just always thought you uh i always enjoyed your style
Starting point is 00:10:53 thanks i remembered you for that did you know at that time that i didn't identify as metrosexual you were gay still am well that was the thing it was like you have to be one or the other that kind of phrase has died has it not metrosexual has yeah I think Instagram killed
Starting point is 00:11:14 the metrosexual because I feel like everybody well for males I think now I guess maybe one good thing with social media is that you know no matter what your sexuality I think it's become such a good platform for guys to express their style and who they are and maybe make money off of it. Like a lot of those other people who like wear stripes.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I'm wearing stripes right now. I put my sweatshirt on and now I'm like really, really hot because I really wanted to be pretty for you today, Nick. And I'm like, I'm not. Today's not like my prettiest day. You don't think so? No. I mean, I'm looking at your face. No.
Starting point is 00:11:59 I mean, I know you're into fashion. I don't know if it's... Can we talk about your workout regimen? Yeah, I'll actually... Full disclosure, I went to a yoga class before this because I was feeling a little off-center. I haven't been for a while. And my yoga...
Starting point is 00:12:15 I go to see one yoga teacher. Her name's Ari. She's at my gym. And she sees me and she's like, oh my God, I'm so happy to see you. You look really skinny. you've lost your plank arms and i was like that's just a yoga teacher trying to get you into signing up for another do you think so i was like devastated i mean i haven't you haven't posted
Starting point is 00:12:38 any of your like on the bed in your underwear showing off your abs photos in a while so maybe maybe you've lost it wait you've you're that's hold on is that true i posted one over new york fashion week which was you're very in shape september i am i mean i only said this is like you're you're a little older than me you've i am how old are you again i just turned 39 just oh we need to get into that but i i take great pride in aging gracefully yes you have done you have done just as well i have good genes number one right i mean it's i will say my mom Well, I haven't seen my dad in two years, but I'm assuming he looks really good. But my mom looks great.
Starting point is 00:13:24 My mom looks fantastic. And this is the thing. I don't smoke anymore. I quit many, many years ago, like 15 years ago. I've never smoked a cigarette. Ever? Never. Oh.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I mean, smoking is so bad for you, but it's like kind of amazing, which is why it's highly addictive like everything else. I get it. My grandpa died of emphysema when I was young. That'll do it. My first memory as a young child is seeing my grandpa live in an oxygen tank. So that kind of did it for me. That will do it. I mean, at least you took that as an example.
Starting point is 00:13:53 I did. And I ran track in high school and college, and it seemed counterintuitive to smoke cigarettes and run until I throw up. You know what sports activities I did in high school? Zero. I got a note from my doctor saying what was true, that I had activity-induced asthma. And so I got out of doing any phys ed during high school. Do you regret it? Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Do you want to know why? Well, you can't work out with all the boys. Exactly. What was I thinking? If I could do it all over again. First of all, high school Brad was definitely not as savvy as like Brad now because I was so locked up in the drama department with like all the freaks and geeks. And I ate up there, ate in the stairwell. I did like, you know, all the things that you do when you're bullied.
Starting point is 00:14:46 And I got out of gym class because I, and I should have like, I should have just made friends with the jocks. It was like a big mistake. Like, what was I thinking? I was upstairs with all the drama geeks. You know, it's probably fine. You might have, you might have metaphorically blown your load, you know, peaked too early, so to speak. Not actually blowing your load, but like, you know what I'm saying? Like maybe those were choice words that might have been the point, Nick.
Starting point is 00:15:17 That might have been the point. But you were bullied in school too, no? I was in like middle school. I was – I mean for the most of my life I was very fortunate and part of the quote-unquote the in crowd. But there was a two-year period of my life where in middle school I was aggressively picked on for being gay. so as or accused of being gay for being gay so what are the i mean for me the the when i was being accused of being gay for me it was somebody saying my like revealing my ultimate secret that i was trying to hide and not doing a very good job at it what it was it for you on the flip side
Starting point is 00:16:01 of that because it's obviously not something that you were trying to hide so what was it that was It was interesting. It was like seventh grade. So, I mean, I don't know for sure, but that's kind of right at the point where you start going through puberty and you, you know, I grew up in the Midwest and it all started because I was, I had this girlfriend in the sixth grade and by girlfriend, I mean, like we call each other boyfriend and girlfriend, but that was the limit. That was the extent of our relationship. And then my friend at the time was on the baseball team and then me and this girl broke up. It was like – but he started dating her and because he was jealous of that past relationship, started bullying me. But what I'm saying is I didn't really have a clear definition or – well, I wasn't a sexual person at that point. I was straight in a sense that I didn't have – like I wasn't into girls or guys. I don't have this fond memory. So at the time, it was kind of a trigger word for bullying and being called gay.
Starting point is 00:16:53 And so it was at the point of my life where, like, I didn't really know what I was. You know, I didn't give it any thought. So at the time when I was picked on so early for being gay, but as a young kid, I always liked to dance. I played sports. I did all, like, traditional guy things, but I always was a bit stylish, and I always liked to dance. And I was – there was, like, a good year where I was constantly told I was gay by, like, some of the other popular kids in seventh grade. I vividly remember asking myself, I don't know, maybe I am. Like, I didn't really, at its worst, in terms of bullying, it was like, if everyone's calling me gay, then maybe I'm gay.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Right. And it wasn't until I was like, you know, like a year later, I got more, you know, it didn't last very long. And I was just like, oh, no one's a boob. I'm really into that. You know, I'm getting an erection. This is, you know. And so, but there was a, it was a troubling time just because I was kind of, there was, I had real fear of, of wondering if I was, and I started kind of believing the bullies, so to speak. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:55 It was a weird time, but I vividly remember it. Well, those are also see, I, I wasn't so much. I, I wasn't, I find that so interesting, because I, that wasn't my experience. Like my experience was so much as somebody who knew, I knew that I was pretty sure I knew I was gay at I knew I liked, I looked, I knew I looked at guys in a different way. and i tried to i had a girlfriend um her name was chris and she was blonde and she was really pretty in seventh grade and um but i was like also in love with my seventh grade teacher mr buyers at the same time i still remember him he was really cute he had a mustache he let me barbecue um one day at school um yeah i thought he was like the hottest thing ever and he was also like a part-time gym teacher natch um but i which he refused to take his class oh i took gym in seventh and eighth grade it was once i got to high school but our gym teacher mr rose well if
Starting point is 00:19:02 mr byers isn't going to teach i'm not going to go basically mr rose didn't have a mustache so i didn't go um but i uh you know it felt like i was trying to i was trying to cover up or hide my big secret but i was like obviously at some point i just decided that i would deal with it in the way that i could and i i didn't i never did get beat up in school people threatened to but i never ever got beat up in school so i never experienced the physical side of it that i know a lot of people do a lot of lgbtq people do um and i'm really grateful for that but do you feel like because i i definitely feel like the bullying kind of doesn't leave you in a way um for me it didn't leave do you feel like it ever kind of i don't know i mean like that one year was intense
Starting point is 00:19:59 but at the same time it was also brief right right so i i i've you probably experienced on a more extreme level than i did for a longer period of time and then like when i was in high school like those kids went to a different high school than i did and i was you know part of the quote unquote in crowd and so uh i'm sure that i listen i'm sure there's parts of it i i don't know what in terms of how it's affected me but i do still remember it vividly i think to that part maybe i think it's always helped me um i i like i like to understand people who are different than me um i have a lot of gay friends i've always you know i've always been extremely in my adult life secure with my sexuality in terms of um i've never worked like if ever you know especially
Starting point is 00:20:53 being in the public eye if someone said oh i wonder if nick's gay for being single as long or having gay friends or even you and i going out or being affectionate or like flirting on our Instagram comments, like, I don't really care or think or worried about if someone thinks anything of me, I'm very secure with my sexuality. I know what I am. Right. I think maybe going through that at a young age, and being bullied for it only to be confident in my sexuality has really, I survived that, if you want to say, you know, and it didn't kill me, obviously, it wasn't going to, but it just kind of made me confident in me, like, I know what I am, and it's fine. And if everyone, like, if someone wants to think something of me, then great. I
Starting point is 00:21:31 I don't really care. And I kind of take pride in that and, you know, I don't run from that, you know. I could if I wanted to. If I was insecure, for example, being my age and being part of Bachelor Nation and being the guy in some circles who's kind of notorious for being unlucky in love, you know, there's been like, oh, well, maybe he's single for a reason. Maybe he's gay. And I don't really care if there's a small section of people just because you and I go around, you know, we'll joke and have sarcastic comments and show affection to a friend just because they're a friend. Well, also, if you were ever I've told you this before, that if you were ever to announce that you were gay, which I know you're not. But if you were ever to announce you were gay and I saw you with somebody else, I would go crazy.
Starting point is 00:22:19 I would literally go insane. You'll be the first to know. I would be so, like, the worst contestant on The Bachelor. Like, I would just be unraveling, crying, screaming. My husband knows this as well. When I said I was coming over here to do a podcast with you, he said, tell Nick I said hi, and I said, I never say your name in his presence
Starting point is 00:22:43 because I feel like it takes a little bit of the life away. You know, I think I could have made a good gay. You 1,000% could have made a great gay. I really love this. I had no idea that this was a part of your... See, I don't know Nick from The Bachelor, like, at all. I've never seen you on The Bachelor. So when people say that we're friends,
Starting point is 00:23:09 they say things about you that, like, I don't know. Like what? Just that you were... Well, that actually comes from my sister. Full disclosure. that he was like kind of like an a-hole on the show he wasn't very nice yada yada yada and i'm like but i don't know that i don't know bachelor nick did she say that to me that's how she remembers me from the show yeah or that's how i was and then i you know that's how she remembers
Starting point is 00:23:35 you from the show has she watched all the seasons i was on i'll have to ask her i cannot confirm or deny that but i'm gonna say probably yes because my sister loves the bachelor wow yeah so even on paradise and when i was a bachelor she still thought i was an a-hole i think so maybe it was maybe it was just from your first season i mean i had an interesting time uh people people always had strong opinions about me one way or the other uh and i certainly wasn't a traditional cast member how so uh i mean most of it's kind of silly when you say that out loud but in that world there's like again if your sister's a diehard bachelor fan she's watched it over the years and bachelor nation washes it with like kind of certain unwritten rules of the things you should or
Starting point is 00:24:18 shouldn't do within that world like there's the fantasy suites right and you don't know that but that's where you're supposed to like be intimate if you are going to be intimate right which is bizarre when you say it like i would only want to go to the fantasy suite um and i was just kind of a you know i was considered the villain the first season because the villain that's that's what she set where like and i was the first season i was on i was considered the villain because i was just like i don't know i actually liked the girl and the guys at the time were kind of quite honestly a little bit jealous and i wasn't like i wasn't a bro right you know i was like i don't know these guys you don't want to talk to her fine i'll fucking talk to her again you know right and in
Starting point is 00:24:57 that world it's a no-no you're supposed to in that world be like hey man i've had my time go make out with my girlfriend and in that world viewers would be like what a gentleman oh my god he's like the nicest guy i've always wanted a guy who was like super cool with me like hanging out with his buddies um and that's how that's how you became a fan favorite and i was like this is fucked up man i don't know i don't know i i find it very i don't know why i have never watched the bachelor i'm surprised i mean i will say like i didn't watch before i was on the show but it's it's a good tv they asked me to come on once and style some people for it should have in some capacity but I didn't watch the show.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Last season would have been a good show to get going on. It was entertaining. Really? Is that Hannah? Yeah, she was good. Yeah, people like Hannah. I think Tanya really liked Hannah.
Starting point is 00:25:50 And was the guy's name Tyler? Was that his name? Yeah, Tyler the handsome devil. Yeah. It really upsets me when I see you guys together on Instagram. I'm just going to say that out loud. I haven't seen him in a while.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Any other critiques on my Instagram? Should I stop or keep doing? Anything I shouldn't keep doing? no i love i miss painting with nick yeah i'm gonna bring that back cooking with neck cooking with nick i really enjoy cooking with nick um i always just lose my apron yeah anything but the general premise is is you don't want to stain your shirt right what about your actual flesh though that'll heal gotcha no shouted out nothing no tied pen i mean like a little grease stain doesn't scar you know like but it won't you can't get out of a fucking shirt that much i'm not allowed to
Starting point is 00:26:39 eat shirtless in my house is that like a gary rule would you otherwise maybe i don't usually eat shirtless you cook shirtless and then put a shirt on and eat i mean you know as far as the gram is concerned yes i gotcha yeah um so i did some super sleuth work on your instagram the other day i made a really good connection because i saw a dress i was impressed that i was very familiar you recognized the dress i know the brand so it said clean plates i think clean plate club clean plate club and there was a photo of a blurry which i have to say with a white asymmetrical kind of neckline dress with one like a one strap here and one strap here more exaggerated than the other and it was by a designer named jacomas and it was worn hours
Starting point is 00:27:41 before by an actress that i'm also friends with named rachel bilson yeah um were you having dinner with her i was yeah and she cleans her plate yeah interesting so you guys just like hang out and say hi to each other and like we hung out and her friends were there too uh and then her friends nicole was nicole there uh yeah yeah interesting bunch of people her stylist nicole just say just say yes she was there well you know you know so rachel knows my actual hometown almost better than i do Because Hayden's farm is in Uxbridge, which is next door to the town I grew up in. I think she's there right now.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Yeah, she is. She told me she was going. But she knows, like, nuts about chocolate. She knows, like, my whole hometown, which we, like. So that's where you're from? Yeah. Oh, interesting. Which is, it always blows my mind that Rachel Bilson knows Port Perry, Ontario.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I'm like, go in and see my mom. Like, my mom still works in Port Perry. Oh. Yeah. You should tell her to go. If you go there, go in and visit my mom. I will. Debbie Goreski.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I don't, I feel like if I were to travel with Rachel, I probably wouldn't go there. Given the reason why she's there. Why would you, where would you go? I don't know. Maybe nowhere. Paris. Probably not. um i heart radio function i'm not a part of i heart speaking of i know that you are with podcast
Starting point is 00:29:28 one i am congratulations thank you you just uh recorded episode like 52 i did with with uh i i do it with cast podcast one turned me down lies true when yeah when was this that's right wasn't my decision i'm sorry i had a meeting at the time i had a different manager at the time but they wrote they were they never got back into my manager and then she bugged him for a response and that i wasn't like i didn't know what i wanted to do but it was we love him he's great but i feel like we just have too much uh we're not really looking for that uh type of show which i didn't even know what type of show i wanted to do at that well look who's winning now yeah twice a week one of the top podcasts
Starting point is 00:30:17 I like that you keep looking at me when you tell that story like I had anything to do with that I'm a slightly vindictive competitive person I just met you for the first time today also Will's like the nicest human being all I see is your face and I see podcast one
Starting point is 00:30:33 people say you give up on podcast one but you can only feel that way if you A. didn't have a super successful podcast no it's all it's all fine it's fun to joke it's it's slight motivation you know of course you find ways to motivate yourself i'm a competitive person but tell people about your podcast if they don't know oh it's i was the first male you were the first male you know a lot of
Starting point is 00:30:59 guys by the way i do and i was the first male guest you were and you're my first male guest thank you very much yeah i uh and the reason why you were my first male guest is because Because I thought you could offer a different perspective than I could, you know? Yeah. I have a lot of straight white male friends who are like... And my perspective was really different because I've never seen The Bachelor. But we didn't even really talk too much about... A little bit.
Starting point is 00:31:22 A little bit. I just told you how like sassy I would be if I was one of those girls competing. Yeah, you were very entertaining. But it's called The Vile Files. It's generally a podcast that we talk a lot about relationships and dating. It's on twice a week, every Monday. we we actually take uh calls from from listeners who have relationships problems and i and i tell them what i think people seem to like my advice but i'm not a professional but people seem to
Starting point is 00:31:48 enjoy the direction i offer and then uh i have uh generally guests on wednesday and we usually talk about life and whatever they want to talk about it and we're always we talk about things like attachment styles or um you know my my guest this week or last week it'll it'll be i don't know when This episode drops, but we had a writer, Liz Plank, who talked about masculinity in men. She did this whole study. And then we just sometimes we'll have guests like Brad who, I don't know, talk about whatever the fuck we want. I don't know. And we like to get in the nitty gritty and a lot of relationship type of stuff.
Starting point is 00:32:20 But we're not limited to that. And we just try to have interesting, thoughtful conversations. And I generally like to talk about things that people sometimes are afraid of talking about. you know i feel like your dating advice too is actually really good uh thanks yeah like on your q a's on your instagram it's like so it's it's like exactly the way that i am with my girlfriends or my guy friends when they're like going on and on and on it's like one sentence yeah i mean uh which is like i think the other day somebody was like he the guy that i liked like checked all the boxes on the list that i had and then we broke up you were like write another list well i actually
Starting point is 00:33:01 had a similar question this week in questions on instagram shameless plug and my answer was you can't fall in love with the checklist that's right um you know yeah i mean sometimes when it comes to dating advice i mean yes i do i'm kind of good at shifting through the bullshit part of it is i i'm not invested in these questions for that thing like sometimes friends are really bad at giving advice because they don't want to hurt your feelings i don't think you can take it people tend to project their own bullshit on what they're dealing with um and you know we're all just looking for some uh directness and so uh usually people when they're you know most of the answers i find uh when it comes to dating relationship are driven by one of two things ego and boredom
Starting point is 00:33:42 you know either you're doing something because you're bored right and that's the root of it or you're doing something because you have a bruised ego and you don't want to you're doing it because You're trying to fill this void of getting over a guy who cheated on you, and it takes forever to get over them, usually because there's two stages of it. There's getting over the fact that you were cheated on, and then there's getting over the relationship. When you're cheated on, you spend the first half of that of just accepting the fact that you were cheated on. How could anyone cheat on you? And then you do, and then you have to mourn the loss, and then it's figuring that out. That's both boredom and ego.
Starting point is 00:34:21 It's really quite simple when you think about it. I feel a book coming on. I have a podcast. I can't do so much. I don't want to dilute myself, Brad. Really? No, you've got to strike while the iron's hot, Nick. The iron is hot, hot, hot.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Yeah, hopefully. I mean, I'm not a good writer. Get a ghostie. Ghostie? Yeah. That sounds like a sexual term. We could make it one. Ghostie.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Hey, you want to ghost me? Ghostie? Ghostie? Definitely don't want to be ghosted, though. Not ghosted. No. Is it ghostie? maybe a ghosty could be like really great sex but you never but you never have the only do it once
Starting point is 00:34:56 i got he ghosted i got ghosted what did you have sex this night i had ghosty sex ghosty sex i'm figuring it out but there's something there it's good get back to me when you figure it out yeah announce it to your close friends okay so since nick nick and i kind of bonded over fashion and he asked me to take him shopping and i of course said yes that's how we really i feel like this when we really consummated our friendship i think so too before it was more of a it was on the periphery yeah we clearly were like fans of each other and attracted as to each other as people and then i can't basically ask you on a date you can and uh and it was great so it was it was kind of in my mind i was like i'm going on a date with nick he wants me to take him shopping and he was
Starting point is 00:35:40 like i just need to get some new outfits but it worked out really well and then you you told me that pleats were back in i did yeah i said pleats were back in we got you a printed that here's the rewarding thing for me was that you wore like your outfits almost right away totally i like wearing new things yes yeah i think you wore something out of the store too i often do that yeah is that not cool no i'm i'm obsessed with that yeah i'm wearing this out yeah i mean there are times where i'll like you know i don't feel like i can't i don't have i don't have any clothes you know There's nothing. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:36:14 This is really sparking my fashion palette. Yes. And so I'll reluctantly get dressed for the day, not loving what I want. I think to myself, I'll just walk it. I'll just go buy something for tonight, you know. And I will often be like, no, no, no, I'm wearing this. I'm here because I'm wearing it out. So just put my old shitty clothes that I currently hang in this bag.
Starting point is 00:36:35 And I'll walk out and always usually have a tag somewhere that I forgot to take off. Always. Is there anything you're obsessed with right now in guys' clothes, guys' fashion, men's fashion? No, that's where you kind of go a cut above me. I'm a creature of habit, so I don't stress the limits too much. You know what I've been really into recently, especially over the summer, was the short sleeve kind of – and we bought the red, the All Saints. It was white with black dots.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Shirts like that. I bought another one from Kooples that was more of a paisley, is that the design? Kind of like a camp collared shirt. There's kind of like a combination of old man short sleeve button-ups slash rock star type. Yeah, like a little bit of a greaser. Yeah, and I've kind of been into those. I like that. I like that.
Starting point is 00:37:32 And I put these pleated pants or jeans and a jean jacket over it. People get very shocked on my Instagram when I wear a pleated pant. They want to know why. Are pleats back? And I prefer a pleat. I don't know if I prefer, but you told me they were in, and then I was like, I really like that. And the pleats that are out there seem to be, I'm tall. And so even these, these are, they're not capris, but they're cropped, right?
Starting point is 00:38:01 So my ankles are showing. I kind of like that style. When I sit, they ride up a little high. And then, you know, for example, in middle America's listening or actually rather watching my podcast because you can watch it a little bit. You know, they write up. I'm like, why is Nick wearing capris? I don't understand. Because you have good calves.
Starting point is 00:38:18 I have great legs. But that's that's I'm I'm embracing the pleat. I'm obsessed with denim. I have a denim addiction. What kind, though? Any kind. I'm still in an ongoing search for the perfect fitting jeans. Sometimes I feel like I find them.
Starting point is 00:38:43 I have very muscular legs, and I'm going to be honest. I have a great ass. Yeah, you do. I was going to say that. I discovered that at the Grove. Especially for a white guy. I have a very unassuming great butt. Yeah, you do.
Starting point is 00:38:57 The problem is, is I, you know, have, they're muscular and they're slightly, for a guy who has a 31 waist, my waist and my thighs, there seems, there's a, there's a conflict of interest. Yeah, we call that in the gay community, a gift from God. Oh, okay. Small waist, thick legs and a booty. Are you crazy? It's a lot, you know, there's, I have a lot to fill in in these jeans. And sometimes it can be really challenging to find great-fitting jeans that aren't too baggy and don't slide off my waist. So you need some with a little bit of stretch?
Starting point is 00:39:32 A little bit, but then I find sometimes they stretch too much. Do you do a vintage denim? Sometimes. I don't like a—I mean, I have a lot of—I really like a— Rag & Bone. Thank you. You're welcome. How'd you know? I just know.
Starting point is 00:39:49 How'd you know? I just know these things. But also sometimes you can find a really good jean for $60 at Top Man. I have this one pair of Top Man jeans that I always wear them a while, and then I'll be like, well, I don't want to wear these because they were cheap. Not because they were cheap, because I feel like I've invested $3,000 in all my other jeans, and I feel like I should give them a run for their money. But I go back to the Top Man, and they really are reliable.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Can I give you some bad news right now? top man's fucking closing down and i don't shop online gone it's gone gone i'm pissed yeah all of our memories i know we went there and i i will not buy jeans online why because i don't know how to return things nick i don't i hate you know how to coordinate a roller skating night but you don't know how to return online i won't do it i won't do it you just slap a label back on the box and drop it off nothing gives me more anxiety i understand i have interns do it for me so i like never return my own stuff oh my god it's uh i understand the anxiety it gives me true anxiety i would rather just buy it all that does bring my why do they do that just because that's
Starting point is 00:41:01 why do they they're not out of business they just closed their retail no they really went like out of business oh wait top man's is gone they closed all their north american stores yeah i'm really disappointed if you if when you are dating somebody or you have a girlfriend what are you buying them what do you mean like if there's like a situation where you are gonna buy a gift for someone you're dating what do you buy like what is your go-to well my love language is not gifts well gifts come in all packages no uh yeah i well i will say to that point i like to put some thought into it uh-huh i don't like buying my love so uh it's not it's so it's not about the money so if i really find something i want to give someone and it costs some money great
Starting point is 00:41:52 but it's not about the money it's more about uh i wanted them to know i put thought into it right so hopefully it's something that relates to them i mean like sometimes like a if i'm going to get you flowers it's not on like an occasion it's not going to be on an anniversary or birthday or holiday you're gonna get flowers from me on a tuesday it's tuesday you know it's just like i knew you had a bad day or something happened and it might be like i send you flowers for that thing but it's not as a gift of like well i'll just get her flowers because like fuck it i can't think of anything else right right right really mailing it in gotcha so uh i guess i just want them to know i put some thought into it but you don't do like the sexy lingerie like buy myself sexy lingerie
Starting point is 00:42:37 no like hey my gift is me listen it takes all times uh but do you are you that kind of guy or no no i would never i don't think i would never i've never have and i don't think i ever would buy a girl lingerie for her is that just something that guys do on like soap operas i feel i don't know or they're selfish maybe i mean no one's ever bought well actually i have actually had a couple guys buy like when i was younger buy like sexy underwear for me to wear if if a girl says i want you to buy me lingerie for my birthday and then i guess i would but i've never had a girl ask me that and i think there's a reason why because it's kind of one of those things that like you kind of buy your own because you wear it for yourself or if a woman's getting
Starting point is 00:43:23 it for a guy she's doing because she wants to surprise him and i feel like the implication of like i could be wrong but this like you're buying you buy lingerie for your girlfriend it's like i'm Happy birthday. Here's something I want to fuck you in. Right. I don't know. Maybe not, right? Doesn't seem like a gift for you.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I don't know. That makes sense. I have never done that. And I've never been asked to get me lingerie. Keep me posted on that. And on that note. Yes. Okay, so I close every interview by asking people.
Starting point is 00:44:01 uh you know i feel like i oscillate between being really grateful for things and also being really tired so what are um what's something you're really grateful for and something that you're like super tired of those are great questions what am i grateful for it's like you've gone to cafe gratitude for dinner and the waiter wants you to say before you order your macrobiotic bowl what you're grateful for is that a thing yes have you not been to cafe gratitude what nick we have to go do you like this i would be so annoyed that i'm only and like some waitress come up to me and tell me like what are you grateful i'm like you just give me my noodles well they're they're also like zucchini noodles but i'm grateful i don't have to deal with your
Starting point is 00:44:45 condescending question when i leave this place that's what so they'll ask you if you want to know what the question of the day is and it will be something like you know what what's the last you know where's what's the last way you expressed gratitude or something like that and i'm like i just i don't know i kind of just want my blue plate special but anyway what are you grateful what am i grateful for i'm grateful for uh i mean my family my parents and i have a i'm a very i'm a very lucky individual you know big picture i am grateful for i think uh humility in the sense that you know I've had a very lucky life
Starting point is 00:45:25 but even like you know talk about The Bachelor or being the villain or things not going I'm grateful for things not always going the way I want to
Starting point is 00:45:31 even though I'm a very lucky person but thankfully I haven't always gotten what I want in the moment for example not being rejected
Starting point is 00:45:40 by Podcast One I'm grateful for that I'm glad to hear you get over this we finally come full circle how about that I'm not over it I'm not over it
Starting point is 00:45:48 but I am grateful we're healing No, but it's – sometimes you think about social – sometimes it's if we are saturated with compliments and people filling us with a false sense of confidence can really – we can be very unselfaware in those moments. So I think I'm safe. I'm grateful for those moments of humility. And what am I tired of? I am tired of false humility. Nice.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I like that. Yeah, people who pretend to be humble. And also I'm tired of people just fucking complaining about everything. It's a lot of complaining going around. I saw a post that Demi Lovato went to Israel, and then she had to both apologize for going to Israel and then apologize for apologizing. Apparently she went, and then I get it.
Starting point is 00:46:42 She's a worldwide celebrity, and I understand there's conflict in the Middle East but like some of her Muslim fans weren't had an issue with that
Starting point is 00:46:51 and then some of her Jewish fans then had an issue with her it was just like I think she just wanted to go on a trip man you know
Starting point is 00:46:58 just let her get sober and be well and I feel like you know yeah we're just always complaining man and everyone has a
Starting point is 00:47:06 platform and a voice and I understand like progress is a great thing and I think we're having that but sometimes we need all chill out too i agree with that as well yeah totally sometimes like we and then we stunt
Starting point is 00:47:19 progress by like you know in this kind of like what is that culture you know of cancel culture cancel culture where it's just like yeah it's just i love david chapelle's uh new stand-up or it was just like that was so funny it was he had great perspective and i know a lot of people were even critical of that where it was just like if you say anything you're risking everything and that's And it's true because like anyone can be offended these days about something you say. Even when we talk, there's probably five moments during this episode I thought to myself, I wonder if someone's going to take exception with that. I'm so offended by this whole podcast. Yeah, but like truly you can.
Starting point is 00:47:56 And we also live in a society that people don't believe facts anymore. They just believe who they like. Right. And in the moment, we just decide like who can stay and who has to go. Yeah. It doesn't really matter what you can prove. It just matters who you like more. Life is a popularity contest these days.
Starting point is 00:48:13 It is. Anyways, you can follow me at Nick Viall on Instagram, and my engagement rate could really use the bump. I feel like your engagement rate is fine, first of all. It's okay. I posted a really thirsty photo yesterday, and it really underperformed. Now we are in the bachelor off season,
Starting point is 00:48:33 and I feel like my engagement goes down. Your rhythm has been a biatch. It's wildly annoying. It's wildly annoying. You know, anyways. I have to ask you. You, just before we wrap this up, you posted something that you took down. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Why? My manager. Are you kidding me? Yeah, it's my manager. It was for my birthday. And here's the thing. I didn't quite like it. It felt, here's why.
Starting point is 00:49:02 He was the straw that broke the camel's back. But when I posted it, it was two photos of myself, one in a very classic tuxedo. Very nice suit. It was my birthday. And then I took a selfie in my underwear. And it was like a slideshow. And a baseball cap. And you were sweaty.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Yeah, I was sweaty. So I think the combination really threw my manager off a little bit. I don't know. But I will say, you know, I have a big belief in trusting your gut, so to speak. And I asked for his opinion because, like, it didn't feel right to me. and when I was sliding back and forth it was like
Starting point is 00:49:33 I don't really I feel like I can post this but I'm kind of ruining it was all about the caption because I had like a birthday suit and then my manager was all like
Starting point is 00:49:41 paranoid about brands thinking it was too aggressive and it was totally fine but I just kind of took it down and I did it because ultimately I didn't like the combo
Starting point is 00:49:48 I didn't feel like you know well we did and on that note thank you very much thanks for having me for coming in Nick I appreciate it
Starting point is 00:49:57 I appreciate your time I appreciate your friendship And I appreciate you teaching me that the people that I were afraid of in high school could be really nice guys with really big hearts. So thank you for that. Well, that's very nice of you to say. Appreciate it. Well, hello, everybody. You know what time it is.
Starting point is 00:50:25 New York Times best-selling author Gary Gennetti is here to answer some questions for Gary. Hi, Brad. Or with Gary. Yes. Yeah. Both. Yeah. Questions for us.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Questions for us. Okay. So we're going to get right into it. Super. Questions with, uh, for, uh, about Gary and Brad. I'm ready. This is a big one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:52 Angel Baby Rainbow Unicorn wants to know, are you guys going to have a human baby? A human baby as opposed to our dogs? We can have a human baby. Angel Baby Unicorn, is that the name? Yes. Yeah, we have no plans to at this time to have a baby. Am I correct? Is there something I don't know, Brad?
Starting point is 00:51:14 No baby. No, I don't think so. Yeah, no baby. Our dogs are enough work. I will say I held a baby like a week ago, and it made me want a baby. I know, and I've seen babies, too, that make me want to have a baby. Andy Cohen's baby is so cute. Andy Cohen's baby is really cute.
Starting point is 00:51:31 That baby is really cute. I like that baby. I like my friend Abraham, who writes on Modern Family, and his partner Stephen's babies. They're adorable. Yeah. There are lots of babies that I like and that make me feel the twinge a little bit, but we have no plans. I think we'd be good dads yeah I think so
Starting point is 00:51:53 I hope so I don't know I feel like I might be the kind of dad where a kid is like tells me stuff
Starting point is 00:51:59 about me like 20 years later and I was like I wasn't doing that I would I would hate that like on that episode of Queer Eye
Starting point is 00:52:07 we watched the other night where the mother didn't even realize that her daughter was being bullied in Japan yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:52:14 I would realize that that I would totally realize well der because that's our story Yeah, but I mean, I guess I would be open to it, but I don't know. I'm super scared of it. Yeah. Well, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:52:30 We'll talk about it after the show. Yeah. Cut to you hear a baby crying on the next podcast. I don't know if it happens that quickly, though. This is from Slick Nick Bliss. Oh, my God. Is Gary a grammar policeman? I don't know if I'm a grammar policeman.
Starting point is 00:52:56 It's just when something hits my ear wrong, I can't not say it. But, you know, my grammar is not perfect either. But really basic stuff drives me insane when it's wrong. So, yeah, not a policeman, but I notice shit. You notice everything. i can't help it always correcting what's the next question i feel like but you only correct you corrected my assistant lindsey you corrected her yeah and you correct me i would want to be corrected when
Starting point is 00:53:35 i if i'm ever speaking incorrectly i would like to be corrected and i'd like to learn you know as opposed to just remaining, you know, in my ignorant kind of state of not knowing something I said was incorrect. Wait, let me see if I get this one right. Um, uh, do you have any questions for Gary and me? Yeah. Do you have any questions for Gary and me? That would be correct. Not for Gary and I. Yeah. Which I did on my Instagram when I asked all these questions and people helpful hint and to remember that is you take the my name out do you have any questions for me you would never say do you have any questions for i unless you know that's real like then you know what's correct but i might actually if i was like doing like in a renaissance elizabethan
Starting point is 00:54:25 do you have any questions for i yeah no that would be wrong too even in renaissance time um okay next question is chang kawen your seat what's your secret to a long relationship uh having a lot in common and laughing a lot laughing every day i think that would be it yeah we don't really fight a lot no but somebody was telling me the other day that they also think that's because we're two men i don't know i know a lot of gay men that go at each other like cats and dogs so yeah i mean i think in some ways drama queen yeah we're not two straight men two straight men wouldn't be fighting in a relationship two gay men you know yeah i think
Starting point is 00:55:16 completely yeah we get a little bitchy and snarky but it doesn't really last that long we're good at switching gears i think we are both good at switching gears yeah like i think we're both good at like i think we know when things are worth kind of getting into and when they're also like not no we haven't had a fight in years no i don't have the energy for that i don't either that's kind of why we're compatible because we neither of us have the we can't be bothered i don't know if it's like we're not lazy people but i i'm very aware i don't want to put my energy into that thank you uh i do not want to put my energy into that either it's exhausting yeah people spinning, us, like, texting each other.
Starting point is 00:56:02 Like, I can't. I can't even imagine that. Memaha wants to go. What are these names? I don't understand. Are these names? They're Instagram handles? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:14 Okay. Memaha wants to know, where's the first place you want to visit on your new show? We're talking about it now, so we haven't decided, but it's between a bunch of places. We're talking about going to Rio. We're talking about going to London. We're talking about going to Bangkok.
Starting point is 00:56:31 So we'll see. Yeah. Stay tuned. We're going big, though. So it's not like we're going to Santa Monica on our show. Yeah, go big or go home. Is that a thing? Is that a sports thing, Will?
Starting point is 00:56:41 Go big or go home? That's just a cool thing. What about I left it all on the field? Yeah, that's like a sports thing. Is that football? You are also asking like a theater kid who didn't play sports in high school. I have a tertiary knowledge. Well, you're all we have.
Starting point is 00:56:55 all we have is tertiary knowledge well that's it yeah yeah you did tertiary is a really good word yeah very good do you Tess and Soph parents
Starting point is 00:57:11 do you ever have a day to relax and do nothing we have a lot of days yes there are many days to relax and do nothing they are our favorite days they are usually called Saturday and Sunday I don't like to see people on the weekends much
Starting point is 00:57:27 maybe Saturday night one thing on the weekend whenever anybody's like what are you doing this weekend I'm like who asks that question I'm watching TV I'm sitting around with the dogs it's like the best we're staying home the big event is going for coffee
Starting point is 00:57:40 it's very low key we have plenty of down time which I think is super important we're very good at lounging sometimes we struggle though with finding things to watch we watch a lot of HGTV I love HGTV. I could watch a little less.
Starting point is 00:57:55 Yeah, that's my, yeah, I like it. It's not my favorite. I know, I put it on more than Brad. Yeah, I don't love it so much. I'd rather watch, like, a documentary or something. Yeah, I could watch House Hunters forever. Flip or Flop. Flip or Flop, the half-hour ones I like.
Starting point is 00:58:11 House Hunters, House Hunters International, obviously. Sometimes you re-watch them. I don't know I'm re-watching them. I don't re-watch them on purpose, obviously. But sometimes they all smush together. they make a really big impact on you they do um okay next question is from Tay Presetio Jesus who is a better cook Gary or yourself Brad is yeah I definitely am 100% I like Pinterest so I like look up a lot of recipes on Pinterest like last night I made chicken stew it was and it was
