Hey, I'm Dr. Laura Berman, and for more than 30 years, I've been helping people learn to
love and be loved better across every kind of relationship.
My intention on Language of Love Conversations is simple, to help you learn to love and be
loved better, deepening your relationships, expanding your capacity for connection, and
living with more presence, honesty, and love.
Let's get fluent in the language of love together.
How to last longer in bed without pressure or performance anxiety.
One of the biggest worries men have in bed is, am I going to last long enough?
And the truth is, the more pressure you feel, the harder it becomes to stay in control.
You get in your head, you feel the anxiety kick in, and your body reacts before you can stop it.
But in this episode, I'm going to teach you how to last longer without pressure, without tricks that kill the mood, and without disconnecting from your partner.
And if you are someone who loves a man, who's worried about lasting longer, you can share this with them.
And stay with me because at the end, I'm going to share a one-minute practice that actually retrains your entire arousal system.
So after three decades of working with men and couples, I've seen the same pattern again and again.
Men think lasting longer is about willpower.
It's not.
It's about learning how your arousal works and partnering with your body instead of fighting it.
So let's start with the most important truth.
Arousal is a curve.
It's not a light switch.
Most men don't realize how quickly that curve spikes.
Once you pass a certain threshold, your body moves toward orgasm automatically.
That's not failure.
That's physiology.
Your job isn't to suppress arousal.
Your job is to manage the curve so you don't cross the point of no return too soon.
The best way to do this is by learning the early signs of your own arousal build.
So maybe you feel warmth.
Maybe your breathing changes.
Maybe you feel a tightening in your pelvis.
These early cues are gold.
They're your body saying, hey, slow down just a little bit.
And when you learn to catch the buildup early, you stay in control.
The second key is slowing down the pace, but increasing the connection.
A lot of guys make the mistake of thinking, if I slow down, she'll get bored.
The reality is slowing down is usually hotter for her because women need time to warm up.
So instead of pulling away or going numb to avoid climaxing or tuning out and thinking about
baseball, shift your focus. Breathe with her. Kiss her. Use your hands. Match her rhythm instead of
the porn rhythm you've absorbed. Unconsciously, of course. This keeps both of you connected
while giving your body time to regulate.
And the third key is learning how to use your breath
to dial down the intensity.
So when you're about to climax too soon,
your breathing actually gets tight and shallow.
That signals your body to accelerate.
So instead, use a slow exhale.
A long, steady out-breath actually will lower arousal
just enough to keep you in control while keeping you in the moment. And the fourth key is mental.
Stop catastrophizing. Most men spiral into thoughts like, don't come, don't come, don't come,
in their own minds. And that's the fastest way to get there. Your brain hears the words come
and your body obeys. So instead, try reframing it. Slow down. Feel her. Breathe. That's what
you can say to yourself, slow down, feel her, breathe, give your body something real to follow.
And here's something that might surprise you, especially if you're with a woman.
Most women don't actually care how long you last. What they care about is presence, connection,
attunement, and how much you're enjoying them. And there are so many ways to stimulate her
other than just your penis.
So when you release the pressure to perform,
lasting longer actually becomes a natural byproduct
of being more connected.
And as I promised, here's a one-minute practice
you can use to retrain your arousal system.
It's called the stop, soften, savor technique.
So the next time you're making love
and you feel yourself climbing too fast,
stop just for a moment,
Soften your body, release the tension from your hips, your jaw, your abs, and then savor.
Focus on one sensation you enjoy.
Maybe your partner's breath on your neck, the warmth of their skin, the sound they make
when they exhale.
This shifts your nervous system from performance mode to connection mode, lowering the intensity
just enough to keep going.
If you practice this consistently, your control will grow dramatically without shutting down
pleasure.
