We're going to find out, Jules. New episodes
Starting point is 00:02:06 drop every Thursday during the NFL season. Listen to Dudes on Dudes on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Look, man. Oh, I see. Wow. Look over there. Wow, is that culture? Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Oh, yeah. Las Culturistas. Ding dong. Las Culturistas. Ding dong. Las Culturistas calling. Day two. Day two. What's been an extravaganza? We've learned a lot of lessons. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Such as we can't take, we, even though these songs all deserve their due, we can't just be like so slow. I mean, it's not that we're being slow. It's that we're indulging. Yeah. Indulging. Indulging. Because the songs are indulgent and the songs demand indulgence and the songs demand that you sing them out loud
Starting point is 00:02:50 It's like when you get to a song called no more baby. I'ma do right by 3lw. You have to go I'm getting a little tired. I get broken promises promises and we didn't even do that We went straight to the second verse actually and she mean like a lady Oh, yeah open doors and doors that you you wanna fly when you're with your boys your boys? How you gonna? And we already have done this. We're already doing it. But sort of like, there we are again.
Starting point is 00:03:11 How are you feeling so far about the list? Canon. I think for this to be the lower third, I shudder to think about what's waiting for us. Shall we just dive right in? Let's dive right in. Number 199. You wanna be on top? Theme about what's waiting for us. Shall we just dive right in? Let's dive right in. Number 199. You want to be on top?
Starting point is 00:03:28 Theme to America's Next Top Model, Tyra Banks. Talk about a time and a place. Talk about a time and a place, but like, if a theme song is supposed to be like a portal into the show, this is the perfect thing that gets you in the world. You want to talk about asking the central question of the show? It is, you want to be on top? Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Okay, we got to move on. We got to move on, but iconic. November 198. Don't Cry Out Loud by Melissa Manchester. I mean, iconic ballad. Talk about a tearjerker. The circus came to town. Baby cried that day.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Baby cried that day. And never forget that it gave us that scene in Drop Dead Gorgeous. And Drop Dead Gorgeous might pop up again on this list. Stay tuned. Stay tuned. Number 197. Cherry Bomb, Joan Jett, and the Runaways. This is a primal song.
Starting point is 00:04:27 You know what I love about this? She said, hello, daddy. Hello, mom. And she knew that people were going to be saying daddy and mom. You know what I mean? Like, oh, she's mom. We love her. We look up to her.
Starting point is 00:04:41 And daddy is obviously, we in the cultural canon, we know we call people daddy. Daddy is now you know what I mean but just the wind up on cherry bomb knock did we get a knock at the door
Starting point is 00:04:51 did we get a knock at the door was that a knock no no okay oh my god alright so we're just sort of hearing things um no cherry bomb it's it's
Starting point is 00:04:59 ch ch ch ch ch ch it's very sort of like syncopated yeah you know what I mean it's percussive yes we don't have enough of that we don't have enough percussive did you did something happen to You know what I mean? It's percussive. Yes. We don't have enough of that.
Starting point is 00:05:06 We don't have enough percussive. Did something happen to you when you heard me say the word percussive? No, I was just like, he's correct. Yeah, you saw the music theory in me. Cheers to that. We're drinking a little bit of mimosa to celebrate. Where's my thing? Oh, there it is.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Oh, God. Hey, I'll drink to that, right? Cheers. Cheers to everybody. It's our 300th, all right? 196. Dancing Crazy, Miranda Cosgrove. You know this.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I don't know that I do. Everybody's dancing, dancing crazy, and we never stop. We never stop. Everybody's dancing, dancing crazy. Put your hands up. Put your hands up. It feels like Miranda Cosgrove is frozen in time. She's frozen in 2010 a little bit.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Everybody's dancing, dancing crazy. I love that she says dancing. Dancing. Anyway, listen to this one. Wait love that she says dancing. Dancing. Anyway, listen to this one. Wait, can I just see? Yeah. You feel she's frozen in time? Well, I just want to see this song.
Starting point is 00:06:16 No. This is iconic. Keep it coming. We can rock out to the end. Yes. Dancing, dancing crazy. Dancing, dancing crazy. And then she goes, I like you and you like me.
Starting point is 00:06:32 We get together and we're happy. Did you hear me say that? Did you hear me say that? And I like the way that we kiss. You and me together like this. Did you hear me say that? Did you hear me say that? Did you hear me say that? It has everything. It's Patty
Starting point is 00:06:49 Harrison. She wishes. Nope. Oh. We texted her to come in and drop in. We have yet to hear back. We have yet to hear back. Bad texter. Bad texter. Okay. Number 195. Love is a battlefield. Pat Benatar. Say that. Say that. I just love how truthful this title is. No one can tell us Pat Benatar. Say that. Say that.
Starting point is 00:07:07 I just love how truthful this title is. No one can tell us we're wrong. Searching for love that's so strong. Just the lyric, no one can tell us we're wrong. No one can tell us we're wrong. Searching our hearts for some love. Searching our hearts for some love. Heartache to heartache.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Both of us knowing. Love is a battlefield. Number 194. Never Too Much by Luther Vandross. I mean, just canonized by Willow Pill. By Willow Pill. Drag Race winner. A sexy song.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Never too much, never too much, never too much. Not many sexier songs than that. Absolutely not. There are sluttier songs, but this is a sexy song. Sensual. Sensual song. It was at the time. It was at the time when people cared about sensuality.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Yes. They don't care about sensuality anymore. They get right to the fucking insertion. Well, sensuality has gotten mixed up with vibe culture. Everyone's like, oh, let's vibe. Sometimes you want a dedicated, sensual aspect to a courtship. Like, oh, sensual. Sensuality is missing. It's actually rule of culture number 41.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Sensuality is missing. Number 193. Bubble pop electric by Gwen Stefani. Come on, Johnny, when you gonna come pick me up? What does she say in this? When you gonna get here? You just pick a place. You just pick a place. Gwen Stefani. Come on, Johnny. When are you going to come pick me up? What does she say in this? When are you going to get here? You just pick a place.
Starting point is 00:08:29 You just pick a place. Um, Johnny. Yeah, Gwen, Gwen, Gwen. You might want to come. Don't worry, because tonight is the night. Gwen. She really gave it to us on that one. I mean, Johnny, get out of here. All right, number 192.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Unfortunately, and it wasn't up to us, Fancy, Iggy Azalea, and Charlie XCX. This one wasn't up to us. Wasn't up to us. But it really did captivate the culture for a moment there. Had the impact. I'll never forget when we had Rae Soni on this show, and she was talking about Iggy Azalea and she goes
Starting point is 00:09:06 why is she out here saying who dat? Who dat? Like she's from full Australia. Fucking who dat? She really was doing the most. But it's on the list. This one, I'm so happy that it's here. Number 191.
Starting point is 00:09:22 The Cure. Lady Gaga. I will always associate it with that trip we took to LA. Where we stayed at an Airbnb in like the attic. Oh my God. That was a different time. We were poor. Yes. Still kind of hard.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Relative to like, you know, Elon. Yeah. Relative to Elon. Honey, we're in the doldrums. We're in the doldrums.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Never getting out. Never getting out. The cure. Oh my God. She said, I don't want this the doldrums. We're in the doldrums. Never getting out. Never getting out. The Cure, oh my god. She said, I don't want this to be Ali Mayne. No. I want this to be Stephanie Terminata. I need this. And to know that they were doing that soundtrack
Starting point is 00:09:53 at that time, that is so long ago. I know. That's surreal. 2017? Uh! That was a crazy week of our life Pop Roulette
Starting point is 00:10:08 bring it back number 190 boys Charlie XCX iconic iconic I love that little Nintendo sound
Starting point is 00:10:17 feels like I'm jumping and hit a block with my head and I'm Luigi or something when I think about boys I replenish. Would you rather fuck Mario or Luigi and think about it?
Starting point is 00:10:32 Luigi. Because I think he wants it more. Luigi would like get stressed out and I would feel like I had the upper hand. Yeah, I feel like it's like, you know, Mario, like, he's probably getting laid all the time. Mm-hmm. Like, and also laying the pipe, literally, as it were. Girl.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Honey. Honey. And hitting that block, literally, as it were. Luigi has the little, in Luigi's mansion, he has that little ghost sucking machine. Right, right, right, right, right. What's that all about? He's a ghost buster and it's like. He just sticks his dick in that, for sure.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Well, he can handle equipment. Yes. He can handle mine. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Number 189. Sweet dreams, Eurythmics, but honestly, Annie Lennox, what is Eurythmics? I will never know. It's a great song.

Starting point is 00:11:52 I don't know the rest. Ladies with an attitude. Fellas that were in the mood. Don't just stand there. Let's get to it. Strike a pose. There's nothing to it. Vogue.
Starting point is 00:12:01 And that really did create a culture. Well, it took from one culture. But, you know, I'm really grateful. I'm grateful. I'm grateful that she appropriated it. How do you feel about Like a Prayer not being on the list? It's fine. Yeah, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Number 187. Mambo No. 5, Lubega. A stud, actually. Mambo number five is kind of like the boys by Charlie XCX of its time. Yeah, and also sort of spiritually, it was the promiscuous boy. Yeah. He had a little bit of all those women in his life. So many things kind of, you can trace back the lineage to Mambo number five.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Boys by Charlie XCX. She's listing off boys. She's not listing off boys. She's just obsessed with boys. Yes, yes, yes. This is so true. He's obsessed with boys. Well, in the video, she might as well have been listing them off. There were so many.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little bit of you makes me your man. Little bit of you makes me your man. That doesn't make sense. No, no, no. Syntactically, it's all over the place. A little bit of you makes me your man. Also, I wonder if, like,
Starting point is 00:13:05 Erica knows about, like, Trina. You know what I mean? Yeah. A little bit Sandra and the son. Yeah, because she, you gotta keep her there because she doesn't know about

Starting point is 00:13:26 Sketch where they all meet each other. You should write that. Hmm. Like, it's Mam women meet. That's a little sketch, why don't you say? Sketch where they all meet each other. You should write that. Like it's Mambo No. 5 women all meeting together for the first time. And they decide that they need to goodbye Earl. Lubega? They need to goodbye Earl Lubega who's so famous and huge. Did he die recently? Did he?
Starting point is 00:13:41 I don't know. Oh, I don't want to find out. Anyway. Okay. Number 186. Malambo No. 1 by I don't know. Oh, I don't want to find out. Anyway. Okay. Number 186. Malambo No. 1 by Ima Sumac. This is most famous from Jinx Monsoon's lip sync on RuPaul's Drag Race. I can't.
Starting point is 00:14:01 You know what it is. That was when you knew Jinx deserved to win. I absolutely thought she should win after that. Yeah. Like, that was crazy. And Detox was amazing. And can we say, we're a Jinx house. We're a Jinx house.
Starting point is 00:14:14 We love Detox. We love Alaska. We love Roxy. I'm sort of saying for this winter season. Yeah. We're a Jinx house. We're a Jinx house. Sorry. Sorry.

Starting point is 00:14:41 Rhyme down. What a legend. What a legend, Gloria. And she has gay in her last name. So stunning. She has Nor. Her last name is Gaynor. Gaynor. No. Like, if Nicole Kidman found out that Sunday Rose
Starting point is 00:14:56 was a lesbian, she'd say, Gaynor! 184. Barbie girl. Aqua. I mean, hiya Barbie hi Ken hello to the canon

Starting point is 00:15:35 My uncle's watching the Barbie girl video. It's also one of those moments where like, as a little gay kid, you get to be like really excited because that was a part of mainstream popular culture. And everyone was like, Barbie girl. Starting point is 00:16:32 did this. And to know that just off screen, Lady Gaga was looking for evidence of the insurrection was really the hard part about it. While Jennifer Lopez was roaring, belting this tune on making America proud, Lady Gaga was getting down to doing the hard work. Because she remembered that in another life she would have been
Starting point is 00:16:47 an investigative journalist. A war journalist. A war journalist. Combat journalist. Number 182. Holiday Madonna. I mean, it just reminds you of vacation. That little ba-dee-ba-doo-doo. You're there. I'm under the sun.

Starting point is 00:17:42 Evening has the same comic potential as that. The word that because one time Matt and I were at a haunted house in Sleepy Hollow and we were all pretty drunk and then Matt inhabited this character who would come up to us and go How are you doing? Hey. Hi, how are you doing
Starting point is 00:17:59 this evening? No, what'd you say? Hi, how are you having a good evening? Hi, how are you doing this evening? It was something like that. Starting point is 00:21:02 you ever heard the song Rush Rush they gave her a ballad and the bridge ends in her belting a note. She goes So deep, so deep so deep inside But she didn't sound like that. You're supposed to imagine that Paula
Starting point is 00:21:18 Abdul is doing it. Maybe I should just play that part. Play it. Just Paula Abdul belting. And this was a hit song. Let's see. Rush Rush. Yep, here it is. Paula Abdul belting and it was this was a hit song let's see Rush Rush yep here it is Paula Abdul okay I'm gonna go
Starting point is 00:21:29 to that part of the song here we go no and then they faded out because she couldn't obviously couldn't sustain it so deep inside that's hard but Cold Hearted Snake No. And then they faded out because she obviously couldn't sustain it. So deep inside.
Starting point is 00:21:48 That's hard. But Cold Hearted Snake is on the list. Number 175. New Attitude, Patti LaBelle. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. This was such a shit. This must have been like when Bob Dylan went electric. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:05 When Patti said, I'm solo now and I'm going to tell you what my new deal is. Yeah. FDR. When Nelly Furtado collabed with Timbaland. Mm-hmm. Vibe shift. I'm feeling good from my head to my shoes. Know what I'm doing and I know what to do.

Starting point is 00:23:09 Movement. Culture. And then she was like, you know what? I'm good. She said, I know what I'm good. And now you know what she's doing? Red Table Talk. Really?
Starting point is 00:23:16 She and her family have like a spinoff of Red Table Talk called like Red Table Talk the Estefans. Oh my God. Yes. Yes. Wait, so she is out there. I thought she kind of just like was like, I'm not, I don't want to be in this fray.

Starting point is 00:26:38 His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well. We talk about guilt, shame, body image, and huge life transformations. I was a desperate delusional dreamer and the desperate part got me in a lot of trouble. I encourage delusional dreamers. Be a delusional dreamer. Just don't be a desperate delusional dreamer. I just had such an anger. I was just so mad at life. Everything that wasn't right was everybody's fault but mine.
Starting point is 00:27:47 I had such a victim mentality. I took zero accountability for anything in my life. I was the kid that if you asked what happened, I immediately started with everything but me. It took years for me to break that, like years of work. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Trust me, you won't
Starting point is 00:28:09 want to miss this one. Number 172. Conga. Gloria Estefan. Come music your body, baby, do that conga. Conga. Conga. Conga. Piano on that. Piano piano the horns
Starting point is 00:28:26 like that is this is music at its best this is music at its best do you want to know something fun about this song
Starting point is 00:28:32 it is used in the new guardians of the galaxy rollercoaster at epcot called cosmic rewind and if you're lucky enough you can have this song
Starting point is 00:28:41 play in full while you're on the ride while you're on the rollercoaster is this like that rollercoaster at universal that plays the songs it's not you can have this song play in full while you're on the ride. While you're on the roller coaster. Is this like that roller coaster at Universal that plays the songs? It's not. It's similar to that in that the songs are playing.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Yeah. But it's more like, have you been to California Adventure and done Mission Breakout, the Guardians ride? No. You haven't? I don't think so. I don't think. The last time I was at California Adventure was like 2019.
Starting point is 00:29:04 When you went with me? Yeah. And we didn't do Guardians? We didn't do Guardians. That sucks. I don't think, the last time I was at California Adventure was like 2019. When you went with me. Yeah. And we didn't do Guardians? We didn't do Guardians. That sucks. I know. Damn. Well, anyway.
Starting point is 00:29:11 I'll do it soon. Table that. Oh, this is a great moment. Number 171. Believe. Share. This was huge. It was huge.
Starting point is 00:29:25 This was a huge, was huge. This was huge. Talk about cultural impact. I mean, it brought Auto-Tune to the forefront. It brought Cher back. Cher was back. I mean, and very thankful for that. I don't think you have the Cher of today without the Cher of Believe. No.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Cher of Believe was, it was giving people hope. Yes. no share of believe was it was giving people hope yes it was giving the gays something to to live for at a time when you know we didn't have that visibility and share said i'm here speaking to i think speaking to queers with this one she's speaking to queers she needed this in order to release song for the lonely yeah you know what I love about this song, the delivery on, and maybe I'm too good for you. It is iconic. Do you believe in love of love? Come on, that's a hook.
Starting point is 00:30:15 You are really loving this one. I really do. I just, I'm just, I'm, I am a child. It's 1998. All over again. It's on 1998 all over again. Simpler time. It's 1998. All over again. It's on 1998 all over again. Simpler time.
Starting point is 00:30:26 It was a much simpler time. But we can continue. And I'm going to say, well, the Cher believe, I mean, look, enough said. Everyone has their own iconic relationship to that song. That is a moment in culture. I remember I was on vacation. I went to this place called Wild Duck Pines. It was in upstate New York or Pennsylvania.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Maybe it was Pennsylvania. But I went there, and at the end of the week, we were going to see there was a bunch of people that were working at the camp. They were counselors slash activity around activities. And at the end of the week, they all did a sketch show slash musical show, like a review. And everyone that was there at the vacation at the resort this lake resort went to the show and i remember all week they said oh my god nicole
Starting point is 00:31:11 who like it was like one of the girls that worked there like one of the one of the like cast members she was they were like nicole was like hot and they were like and at the end of the week she's gonna sing she sings at the show and it's absolutely unbelievable you're gonna gag and she sang believe and it was not good it was not good and everyone was like Nicole is so amazing wait till you hear Nicole sing believe
Starting point is 00:31:38 at the end of the week it's gonna inspire you you're not gonna wanna leave and it was just this like full five that's not nicole's fault no it's p it's people's fault for like hyping her up too much i think it was people's fault number 170 call me maybe call me birth of a legend a perfect pop song a perfect pop song what are you doing we just got confirmation that we're getting a new guest where someone else is gonna drop in okay and it's iconic it's an iconic guest all right stare a show in hot night when was blown great lyric great couplet before
Starting point is 00:32:21 you came into my life i missed you so so bad. It doesn't make sense, but it makes sense. It's like a paradox. It's kind of like linguistically, like, I know what it's trying to do. I didn't know how much I missed you. Like, I missed you. I wanted you in my life before you came into my
Starting point is 00:32:39 life. You know? Okay, we're eating. Mmm. Wow, this place is really good. This is great. It's so good. Okay. Okay. Number 169.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Happy birthday world. I mean, despite having what I think is sort of a challenging note. Interval. Yeah. We've talked about this. Happy note. Interval. Yeah. We've talked about this. Happy birthday. That's sort of sneaky.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Really sneaky. It makes it challenging. I think it's like a fifth or a sixth. Like that interval is tough. Happy birthday. And you have to really watch what key you start in with this song That's true of all songs But especially happy birthday
Starting point is 00:33:29 Well just because of the sneaky note The sneaky interval as you said If I'm excited and I'm like Happy birthday to you And I'm like already panicking I'm like oh my god no Happy birthday to you And already it's already the two is already
Starting point is 00:33:47 tough to you and I'm panicking I'm sweating my eyes are closed and everyone I can I feel like everyone's looking at me happy birthday you did it Happy birthday to you. I think you were... That's not fair. Because you were setting up a narrative that you would fail. And you didn't. It's called subversion, bitch. Bitch.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Number 168. Anus, Alaska Thunderfuck. Off her amazing first album, Anus Alaska Thunderfuck off her amazing first album Anus Alaska's music career very very enviable in the drag space and in the general music space
Starting point is 00:34:34 a great first album Alaska has been a guest on this podcast which I often forget because it was the other era. Yeah. Number 167.
Starting point is 00:34:51 The Christmas Shoes, new song. A story. Iconic Christmas tearjerker. A little bit of Christian, a little bit of Christian, you know, morals. Not morals, but there's like, you know, God is in the room. Sir, I want to buy these shoes
Starting point is 00:35:08 for my mama, please. It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size. Oh my God. Could you hurry, sir? Daddy says there's
Starting point is 00:35:23 not much time. You see, she's been sick for quite a while. I know these shoes will make her smile. I want her to look beautiful.
Starting point is 00:35:41 My God, I'm emotional. If mama meets jesus tonight number 166 family affair mary j blige let's go don't need no hateration holleration in this dancery period we. We can move on. 165. Get me bodied. Extended mix. Beyonce. Do an old school dance. An old school dance. Snap for the kids. Snap for the kids.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Snap for the kids. To that Naomi Campbell. Walk, Naomi Campbell. Walk. Walk across the room like Naomi Campbell. 164. Beautiful liar. Bello and Bustero. Beyonce and Shakira. The B-Day era gets overlooked. It certainly does. And can I tell you what I'm pissed
Starting point is 00:36:31 that was overlooked by the Blue Ribbon panel? Ring the alarm. I'm pissed. I'm fucking pissed at our producers. I think Megan, I'm quick to blame Megan. Like, Megan, it's probably Megan's idea that it's like a two-person panel. Like, Megan, no, this is not how the world works.
Starting point is 00:36:50 You know what? She's got to go. Megan, you're fired. Fired. Sorry. Sorry that you're losing two jobs in one year. Has it been a year? Go!
Starting point is 00:36:58 Okay. Best year of my life. Number 163. Tell him, Barbara and Celine. Here's a question I don't think we've ever answered. is the rain on me of that well maybe not who i think that rain on me was more talking to like enough is enough no more tears yes but it is two legends absolutely just a slight a little micro generate a couple micro generations apart and and this is what I want to know. Who out of you and I is the Barbara and who is the Celine? Who's the one that's saying, I'm scared?
Starting point is 00:37:29 And who's saying, I've been there? I think you've been there more than I have. I'm the one who's a little bit more scared when it comes to love. Okay, I'm comfortable with that. But the thing is that... You're the one who's always telling me, hold him close to you. Well, I'm literally always saying to you, fear the fire with all the passion
Starting point is 00:37:51 you can show. You're Barbara. I think you need to be more comfortable. Can I give you a note? Sure. You need to be more comfortable being Barbara in general. You are Barbara. You think? You're Fanny. You need to be more comfortable being Barbara in general. You are Barbara. You think?
Starting point is 00:38:08 You're Fanny. You're Dolly. You are Miss Focker. She's in Meet the Fockers, right? For sure. She's Miss Focker. She's Miss Focker. You forget that.
Starting point is 00:38:22 And you forget that she was in the guilt trip with Seth Rogen and she only took it because she wanted to be comfortable. She was sitting down the whole movie. You know, I read the script and I was going to be sitting down. And I liked that about it because I want to be comfortable. I don't want to be uncomfortable. I could be sitting down. I don't care. I want you.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Hubble. I don't care. Hubble? Hubble. I don't care. I want you. Hubble. I don't care. Hubble. Hubble. I don't care. I want you. Wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Oh, where are we? I got lost. Number 162. Son of a preacher man, Dusty Springfield. Billy Ray was a preacher's son and I wanted to fuck. That is a sexy song. Absolutely, bro. How well I remember the look that was in his eyes,
Starting point is 00:39:10 stealing kisses from me on the sly, taking time to make time. Telling me he's all mine. Learning from each other's knowing. Learning from each other's knowing. Wow. Looking to see how much we've grown, and the only one who could ever reach me was the son of a preacher man. Was the preacher man's son who could dick down.
Starting point is 00:39:30 The preacher boy had a fuck boy son. Oh, love that. And it's like that forbidden thing that makes it so much hotter. Oh, my God. Have we talked about that? Sometimes religion can make things feel more forbidden. Yeah. And religion is so sexy.
Starting point is 00:39:44 So sexy. Okay. Number 161. Ble, and religion is so sexy. So sexy, okay. Number 161, Bleeding Love, Leona Lewis. This was actually a moment in culture. And then it just, I mean, Leona Lewis is huge, has a huge career. Uh-huh. And I think this was what started it all. Well, now it's like...
Starting point is 00:40:04 This bred so many other hits. It's like Whitney, Mariah, Leona. She's the Kelly Clarkson of the UK, in a way. In a real way. But also, I wonder how famous she is over there. Wasn't she a judge on the drag singing show? She was. Oh.
Starting point is 00:40:23 The Queens of the Universe thing? Yeah. She was. I need to watch that still. Same. Number 160. Squidward knows cupcake. Go off about this one.
Starting point is 00:40:35 She's rapping about a guy's dick looking like Squidward knows. She doesn't want to fuck. Listen. There's so many great cupcake songs. Let's go. I just think like dicks could look like worse things than
Starting point is 00:40:48 Squidward's nose at least it's thick I don't know it's a teardrop though it's a teardrop shape and I don't like it when it's girthy
Starting point is 00:40:57 at the top but like I like the top can be whatever but sometimes a dick can be too wide in the entry.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Yeah, I have a mushroom head and it's a problem. It's not the head. It's the shape of the shaft. I don't, no, it's not a problem. Well, how do you know? Well, I'm telling you, you can't think of it as that. You're right. And sometimes, and I don't mean to shame the people who have the Squidward Nose penis.
Starting point is 00:41:29 You made me feel bad. No, and I didn't mean to, and I know I did. You made me feel bad because of the shape of my penis. Number 159. Smack a bitch, Rico Nasty. Go off about this. This is one of the angriest songs ever recorded. She goes fucking... Have you heard this song no she just she just talks about wanting to smack you bitch and then and then and then and then she goes
Starting point is 00:41:55 oh my fucking god amazing she really went off she went off 158 BBC dance anthems radio interrupted by announcement of Prince Philip's death. BBC Dance Anthems Radio. I'm just gonna play it. Yeah, I would love to hear it. I want to hear this one out loud actualized. Imagine you're vibing. Buckingham Palace has announced the death of
Starting point is 00:42:23 His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh incredible rest in peace rest in peace Prince Philip number 157 big ol' freak Megan Thee Stallion this was I think
Starting point is 00:42:38 the first song that you brought to my attention this was the first Megan song that I'd ever heard and I was Sam Jay at work was like you need to listen
Starting point is 00:42:44 to Megan Thee Stallion. I was like, okay. She played this for me and I was like, oh my God. Absolutely. Let's keep going. Number 156. Summergirl, Haim. Seeing them.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Seeing them. I love this song so much. The Bridge. They have so many songs that could have really made the, and they have made a global impact. They have. But, you know, we can only pick a couple. Walk Beside Me, Not Behind Me. Love that.
Starting point is 00:43:10 And take that suggestion. Come on. Why don't you? Brene Brown Found Dead. Absolutely. Number 155. Now I'm In It. Now I'm In It.
Starting point is 00:43:20 And I've been trying to find my way back for a minute. Oh, my god. That driving like Yeah, it's classic them. Classic Haim. Classic the sisters. The three. The iconic three LA girls. There's nothing
Starting point is 00:43:37 more iconic than three women singing in a band. And there's a lot of that in this list. They're incredible performers. They're amazing performers. Love them. Love those girls. Number one, speaking of girls, number 154. Oh my god, you guys. Legally Blonde
Starting point is 00:43:54 original Broadway cast. When the girls got together to all sing this together. The girls were girling. The girls were girling. Dear Al, he's a lucky guy. I'm like gonna cry. I've got tears coming out of my nose Matt Brooks Annaleigh Ashford really became a star in that moment
Starting point is 00:44:09 The career she's had since Bravo Love her What else is there to say? You know this musical well This is like one of my favorite musicals. Me and Joel Kim hosted a podcast about it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:44:29 A savior during the pandemic. One of America's most slept on podcasts. It was a patron exclusive. Truly. Yeah, but you guys were donating the money. We should have made more. You should have. I'm shaming everyone that they didn't listen to jill kim and i's eight episode um legally blonde the search for the next elwood's deep dive podcast
Starting point is 00:44:54 when we needed it most the year of our lord 2020 but now when the readers and publicists talk about cousin of the week i know they're a real fan they're they're not a fake fan they're not a fake fair weather fuck number 153 moving on up the jefferson's theme song jenny dubois amazing song i mean we all remember where we were not born but that didn't matter. It didn't matter. Fish don't fry in the kitchen. Mm-mm. That says everything. Says it all. Says it all.
Starting point is 00:45:30 Says it all. Number 152. You in your hand, pink. Again, we sort of like Liquid Dreams return to this theme of sort of suggested masturbation,
Starting point is 00:45:40 but this time from a woman's perspective, empowered. I'm not gonna to fuck you. It's going to be you and your hand tonight. And tonight. Get lost. You don't really want to mess with me tonight. Not tonight.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Or any night, to be honest, with Pink. No. Pink is not. You cannot. If you're going to annoy, if you're going to run afoul of Pink on any given night, good luck. She's a tough broad. You have a death wish if you're gonna piss off pink.
Starting point is 00:46:08 Don't do it. Don't do it. For your own safety. You're gonna get your ass beat. Number 151. Don't let me get me pink. Sometimes the person who's annoying pink the most
Starting point is 00:46:22 is pink herself. Mm-hmm. Never win first place. She might be kicking her own ass. Remember Misunderstood, the album? Was that what this album was? Don't support that. The craziest,
Starting point is 00:46:36 most scandalous thing about this song to me at the time was tired being compared to damn Britney Spears. She's so pretty. That just ain't me. I was a little sad. You know what's funny? At the time, not being like Britney Spears was enough of a brand for a lot of these girls.
Starting point is 00:46:54 I know. There was Britney and then a lot of other people who were just like, I'm not Britney. And that was enough for a lot of record labels. Was it even like that with Madonna? And that was like enough for a lot of record labels. Was it even like that with Madonna? Like there would be these girls that weren't, like Cyndi Lauper wasn't Madonna, but she wasn't like a Madonna alternative.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Well, sort of. I mean, she was wacky like pop star. Right, right, right. But yeah, there were just, it was Jessica, it was Christina, it was Pink. It was like a lot of girls. Well, I think the person who was like probably closest spiritually to Britney was probably like, honestly, probably Jessica because she had the same like, she didn't really deviate from the Christianity thing. Totally, totally.
Starting point is 00:47:41 But she went like hard Christianity. She was just like, no, I'm for real a virgin and I'll say it the loudest. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's so funny. Like that was the time. And Mandy Moore said, I'm pivoting to acting queen. Yeah. More on that in a second.
Starting point is 00:47:54 More on that in a second. Okay. Hold on. Where are we? We're at number 150. Pomp and circumstance, underclass Underclassmen and Band Program. The seniors aren't playing that at their own graduation. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:48:09 It's the underclassmen and band who are playing Pomp and Circumstance. They're the ones tasked. Because they're not being celebrated and honored. Wait another year or two or three. No, no, no. And it would be inappropriate for them to rise at that point.
Starting point is 00:48:23 No. They're sitting on the side in the field in the stadium whatever but i do love pomp and circumstance oh yeah no no oh right right right What was I doing? I don't know. I don't know. Is that from Mario Kart?
Starting point is 00:48:51 It's like a British thing. It's a Royal British thing that I think has been on Beatles albums. Anyway, speaking of really amazing songs. Number 149. Can't Fight the Moonlight, Leigh-Anne Rimes. Iconically from the Coyote Ugly soundtrack. You can try to resist, try to hide from my kiss,
Starting point is 00:49:12 but you know, but you know that you can't fight the moonlight. Leigh-Anne Rimes. Interesting life. Interesting. Oh, I don't know that much. Well, she and Eddie Cibrian had an affair on the set of a Lifetime movie they were doing together. Oh.
Starting point is 00:49:30 And then he left Brandi Glanville, who then became one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. That's the Leigh-Anne connection. Drama. And then Leigh-Anne, a couple years ago, was on The Masked Singer. Oh, did you and Maren talk about this? About Leigh-Anne? I don't think so. I don't think Leigh-Anne came up.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Although I'm sure that Maren has a relationship, at least as a fan, with Leigh-Anne Rimes. Just has a concept of Leigh-Anne. Leigh-Anne Rimes was like a country version of JoJo, where at 13, 14, she was singing that song. Blue, I'm so lonesome for you. That song. These prodigies. These prodigies. Okay, a song that's better than that.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Speaking of prodigies. 148. Shower, Becky G. Dancing in theies. Okay, a song that's better than that. Speaking of prodigies. 148. Shower, Becky G. Dancing in the shower. Well, she's right. I mean, who among us can say they haven't danced in the shower? Singing in the shower. Singing in the shower, dancing in the shower.
Starting point is 00:50:15 I don't think she's dancing. Oh, well, that would be dangerous. She's dancing in the mirror or singing in the shower. Dancing in the mirror. Singing in the shower. Right, right, right. La-da-dee, la-da-da, la-da-da. Great hook.
Starting point is 00:50:26 So good. And we should also really say, because now I feel nervous, because I didn't want to be on this podcast and be like, yeah, we all dance in the shower, because famously, you could break your damn neck. Really scary. Don't do that. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Or dry off your feet. Or wear shower shoes. Shower shoes. I don't know. Becky G, though. Kind of a Mandy Moore of her time. Pivoted to acting. Well, she was stunning as the lesbian in Power Rangers.
Starting point is 00:50:52 Yep. Remember that? Did we see that together? We saw that together. I wanted the second one. Me too. Elizabeth Banks. So, Rita Repulsa.
Starting point is 00:51:00 No! Krispy Kreme. Number 147. Raise your glass pink. And in honor of that, raise your glass. If you are wrong in all the right ways. Who do we want? Let's invite one of the people. Alright.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Hans. Hans, come in. It's time to come in. Come on, Hans. Come on, Hans. I'm really happy because this next one I think he'll have a relationship with yes
Starting point is 00:51:27 let's go we don't have all the time in the world it's only a couple doors it's what is it one two doors is he putting on makeup it's a podcast
Starting point is 00:51:35 it's a podcast it's not a visual medium alright come on in come on in Hans come on in Hans it's head of content Hans I don't think they've heard from you ever on the podcast
Starting point is 00:51:42 have they only from chats never oh yeah you sometimes chime in for chats well It's head of content, Hans. I don't think they've heard from you ever on the podcast, have they? Only from chats. Never. Oh, yeah. You sometimes chime in for chats. Well, welcome to the podcast. That's the mic. Are you comfortable?
Starting point is 00:51:52 Because, you know, here's the thing. You produce and you sort of, you know, run the table in terms of podcasts. But in terms of, you know, really sort of getting into the medium and really actively, you know, participating, how comfortable are you? Very uncomfortable. I prefer to be behind the glass well talk about this why why do it then and then why oversee it if you if you can't be on the other side of it is it those who can't do produce i think it's those who can't do produce and those who can't produce teach gym oh my god you know if you're a gym teacher then good luck
Starting point is 00:52:25 there's nowhere else to go Richard Rogers found dead wow I didn't know I was coming into the hard hitting interview I'd be like yeah this is well we've been called
Starting point is 00:52:33 the gay Marc Maron we've been called the gay WTF oh my gosh did you know that I've never heard that are you proud of us I'm so proud of you
Starting point is 00:52:40 you don't have to do that how do you feel about how do you feel honestly about Lost Cult? I think it's amazing. I am so proud of you. You guys came in. You were this beautiful
Starting point is 00:52:55 blossoming rose that has now become this incredible bouquet. And that's so rare for a rose to become a bouquet because usually roses just wilt and die. It stays one rose. No, this one multiplies.
Starting point is 00:53:11 Oh, that's so beautiful. Hans, thank you for giving us a home here at iHeartRadio Big Money Players. We absolutely are we feel very indebted and very free. And you let us kind of do whatever we think our little hearts are going to want to do, and we appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:53:28 You've never gotten in our way. Yeah, you've never said no. That's good contenting, for sure. That's good contenting. It's just don't get in the creative way. Speaking of content, were you going to say something? No. What do you think belongs on this list?
Starting point is 00:53:45 You know, there's one musician that I think is so important to the culture that I have never heard the culturistas talk about. Oh my God. Okay. What? It's a little sticky. No, it's okay. Michael Jackson?
Starting point is 00:53:58 Michael Jackson. Let's talk about Michael Jackson. Let's chat about Michael Jackson for a second, right? There is this thing where you can't really cancel Michael Jackson because it's like everyone has been influenced by him. Like every part of the pop culture has been informed by Michael Jackson. Yeah, and the omission, it feels deliberate. It's like how can you go this long without talking about Michael?
Starting point is 00:54:21 Have we never talked about Michael Jackson even in the old days? I've never heard the names come out of your mouth on this show. Well, here's what I'll say. That said, this show is very long. It's so long. And I listen to every minute of it. Every week.
Starting point is 00:54:34 Yeah, right. Yeah, right. How many episodes of this did you listen to prior us coming onto this little label? A handful. Do we count the week before you came onto the label? Yeah, I guess so. So one?
Starting point is 00:54:48 There was like six or seven. Okay. Well, then good. Sure. But he wants us to talk about Michael Jackson. So here's what I'll have to say about him. I will say this. For all the nonsense,
Starting point is 00:55:00 I did hear Man in the Mirror the other day at the Clark Street Diner, and I was like, God damn it. This song is incredible. It's a great song. I mean, Michael has invented so many things. It's like people talk about Madonna inventing all these things that pop stars do,
Starting point is 00:55:16 which is true, but Michael invented pop culture. Yeah, he really did. You can't really... Do we think he was gay i don't know i think he was broken yeah i think i think he was so deeply broken by his father and by the industry and by like the situation that he was in that i think it almost is like tough to even like wager what his sexuality was because i think that... There was a lot going on. Yeah, I think he was a disturbed person
Starting point is 00:55:48 from a probably very young age. And I honestly feel like he was one of those pop stars where... I mean, this is obvious, but things happened to him rather than him making things happen for the most part. Yeah, well, he was abused. He was abused. The whole family.
Starting point is 00:56:04 And the vitiligo kind of like putting him on that journey. Like it just, it was just a lot of stuff. Like you can't, I think we'll spend the rest of like our own individual lives, like parsing that out. Unless they make like a seven part documentary about him. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:56:20 They've tried. Well, they made like the four part documentary about him. But that's not seven. That's not seven. I think what Bowen's saying is he needs three more parts. I need a documentary about his career, not about Neverland.
Starting point is 00:56:31 Do you know what I mean? Neverland as a concept is really scary. Crazy. Yeah. This feels incredibly cathartic, to finally have the moment where the culturistas talk about Michael Jackson. Because you love him?
Starting point is 00:56:46 Or you find him important and influential? Well, that for sure. But also, it feels like you guys are expressing something. It feels like you have been holding back
Starting point is 00:56:55 talking about Michael Jackson Do you ever feel like you hold back on talking about him? Sometimes, maybe that's true. I do. It's so interesting. Because I think Hans is right. For some reason, I don't think it's deliberate. I do. It's so interesting. Because I think he's, I think Hans is right.
Starting point is 00:57:06 For some reason, it's not, I don't think it's deliberate. I don't think it is that we haven't talked about him. And yet it is weird that we haven't talked about him. I actually, I have to say, there must have been a time, like, in the old days where we did. Because I'm thinking now, like, if we never talked about him, that really is crazy. But also, you have to remember, like, that man has been dead for a long time. 2009. Like, longer than we think and realize.
Starting point is 00:57:30 I remember 2009 because I remember it was the summer that I was coming out of the closet. And it was like, yeah. I don't know. I imprinted on that. Where were you when he died? I think I was on vacation. And I remember it was the first celebrity death that affected me. That I actually got,
Starting point is 00:57:48 I was old enough to actually care about the person who died. Yeah, yeah. What's your favorite Michael Jackson album? The video for Remember the Time will always be with me. You know what I really like? You are not alone. I am here with you. That song. That song. I might be not as literate as I should be. you are not alone I am here with you that song that song
Starting point is 00:58:06 I don't I might be not as literate as I should be and listen whatever but the thing is like he definitely is this thing
Starting point is 00:58:13 like I remember like I want again I'm gonna bring up the Guardians of the Galaxy ride to California again because they also play I Want You Back sometimes
Starting point is 00:58:20 in that song the Jackson 5 which also again is culture but they started the song and we were like yeah and then like we all at the same time in the car the everyone in the car was like oh and it is this thing of like it's this it's this weird thing about consumption of michael jackson yeah that i think like people that are you know you know aware of everything that went
Starting point is 00:58:44 down like really does think about like consuming his stuff. Like when that man in the mirror came on, I remember being like, oh, this is such a good song. And the oh was coming from a place of, but I ain't streaming it. I'm not like supporting that estate. I think the whole thing is fucked up. Yeah. Yeah. And we danced around it, but I 100% believe he molested.
Starting point is 00:59:04 Oh, he did. He did. I mean, like all these kids believe he molested children. Oh, he did. He did. I mean, like all these kids wouldn't be saying. Right, right, right. And it's also like all that was coming out in a time pre-believe victims. You know what I mean? Like it was really a time when like the media was just like shuffling these kids out. And then like they went away and like nothing happened.
Starting point is 00:59:21 And what happened to them? Because the person you would believe the least in any situation is a child yep or not that they were like children when they came forward but it was just like yeah well you were kids back then and maybe you remember it differently like that is like the perfect storm of like all these things that people can like lob against you yeah
Starting point is 00:59:38 and the trauma of like like a parent like I remember a whole thing was like well their parents are looking for money and it's like can like all these parents are looking for money and it's like all these parents are trotting out their kids for money like the trauma
Starting point is 00:59:50 that that would do like just the levels of trauma on trauma on trauma that those kids had to deal with and probably are still
Starting point is 00:59:55 dealing with but it is it is interesting that we haven't talked about and only Hans is someone who has this bird's eye view
Starting point is 01:00:04 the overseer The overseer. The overseer. We want you to help us with one announcement. And it's number 146. One in a million Miss Congeniality version bust on. Do you know one in a million from Miss Congeniality?
Starting point is 01:00:20 I am sad to say I've never seen Miss Congeniality. Put it on. You'll love it. It's on the list of shame. I know. You'll love it. No, we're not shaming. You can't shame.
Starting point is 01:00:29 Don't tell Sandy. I won't tell Sandy. No, he's going to tell Sandy. I won't tell Sandy. He's going to tell Sandy B. Doug is smiling. Do you have the ability to text Sandy right now? Yes.
Starting point is 01:00:39 Yeah, he can text Sandy. What should I tell Sandy? Don't tell her I haven't seen Miss Congeniality. Tell him our head of content has not seen. Do not text her that. I won't. I't tell her I haven't seen Miss Congeniality. Tell him our head of content has not seen... Do not text her that. I won't, I won't, I won't. She would be like, oh, that's okay. Yeah, I think she'd be okay with it
Starting point is 01:00:51 because you want to know what? So many millions saw it. What does she care? I think she's doing okay. I think she's doing fabulous. Do you call her Sandy? She kind of like demands you call her Sandy. She goes by that.
Starting point is 01:01:03 She goes by that. So, it's Sandy. And we could all... If anybody in this you call her Sandy. She goes by that. She goes by that. So it's Sandy. And we could all, if anybody in this building called her Sandy, she would want that. Be fine. So you have some homework. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Before the next episode of Last Coach will be recorded, you are to watch Miss Congeniality. Okay. And I would like to hear a report. Can do. Absolutely. Thank you, Head of Content. Thank you for inviting me on it was
Starting point is 01:01:25 fabulous and and before you go um just we really do thank you and we love being a part of the family and you are in the lcu congratulations thank you both for being part of the bmpu as he's being goodbye goodbye hans see and this is like this is exposing to the readers the fabric of our life. Starting point is 01:01:59 Are there pictures of Anna? Are there pictures of Doug? Are there pictures? Freaks. Fucking Google it, bitch. Google it, bitch. Okay, let's keep going. Number 145.
Starting point is 01:02:09 By the way, we should just say one in a million for Miss Congeniality. Oh my God, a bop. You're one in a million. But the Miss Congeniality version where there's the dance break.
Starting point is 01:02:17 Yes. When they're all in the Statue of Liberty. Ugh. Yeah. Iconic. The Real Housewives of New York City are back for another bite of the Big Apple. Look who it is.
Starting point is 01:02:38 Joined by elite new friends. Rebecca Minkoff. Have you ever heard of her? But things could change in a New York minute. She had this wild night and ended up getting pregnant by some other guy. What? You've told her? Not today, Satan.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Not today. The Real Housewives of New York City. All new Tuesdays at 9 on Bravo or stream it on City TV+. Hey, I'm Jay Shetty and I'm the host of On Purpose. My latest episode is with Jelly Roll. This episode is one of the most honest and raw interviews I've ever had. We go deep into Jelly Roll's life story from being in and out of prison from the age of 13 to being one of today's biggest artists.
Starting point is 01:03:19 We talk about guilt, shame, body image, and huge life transformations. I was a desperate, delusional dreamer. And the desperate part got me in a lot of trouble. I encourage delusional dreamers. Be a delusional dreamer. Just don't be a desperate, delusional dreamer. I just had such an anger. I was just so mad at life.
Starting point is 01:03:35 Everything that wasn't right was everybody's fault but mine. I had such a victim mentality.

Starting point is 01:04:44 We're going to find out, Jules. New episodes drop every Thursday during the NFL season. Listen to Dudes on Dudes on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba. He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez,
Starting point is 01:05:13 will make headlines everywhere. Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzales wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story, as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Number 145, Unwritten, Natasha Bedingfield.
Starting point is 01:06:04 The iconic theme song to The Hills. A song about life. And then a song about experiencing things. A song that Josh Sharp played at his Whores Meet Disco sort of parody party at $3 Bill a month ago. His DJ set was just playing Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield over and over and over again. Natasha Bedingfield said chapters. Chapters. Eras.
Starting point is 01:06:27 Eons of life. Natasha Bedingfield said standing outside in the rain. I mean, truly. I need to clean my damn windows. They're dirty. And you know what? I just, when she said the rest is still unwritten. That was a good vocal.
Starting point is 01:06:44 Oh, yeah. Number 144. Battlefield was a good vocal. Oh, yeah. Number 144. Battlefield, Jordan Sparks. Why does love always feel like a battlefield? Guess you better go get your armor. Come on, aim status. But this was after aim. So true, King.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Oh, my God. But I'm saying it gives aim status why does it like like like two asterisks and like in in like uppercase and lowercase font why does love always feel like and then like and then like spaces in between spaces in between each b a t t and then like at the bottom bottom bottom you'd have to scroll down to get to the bottom of the aim profile. And then it would go dot, dot, dot. Better go get your armor. Period. XO.
Starting point is 01:07:32 I never meant to start a war. And it would say dinner later. 143. Break the ice, Britney Spears from the Blackout album. This is like... Culture. Culture. You're in the club. That's all there is to say. 143. Break the Ice, Britney Spears from the Blackout album. This is like... Culture. Culture. You're in the club.
Starting point is 01:07:47 That's all there is to say. 142. Baby, It's You, 2018, JoJo. Baby, It's You is truly a great pop song. Remember when you came to LA and we went to the Academy Museum and we were listening to it? Yeah. But I put on the 2018 version, which I kind of think is better than the 2003 version. I would agree.
Starting point is 01:08:05 Well, she's a better singer now. Yeah, that doesn't always happen with these young singers. These young girls. Do you know the music video was shot at Six Flags Magic Mountain? You told me that, yes. And then there's just some, it'll cut away from her and just be a shot of a roller coaster doing a loop. I mean, there was something so beautiful about that time in our lives when we were teenagers
Starting point is 01:08:26 all you had to do was just go to Six Flags with friends over the summer that's all you needed to do now you got a TikTok there's just so much business on the plate I hope there's back to basics
Starting point is 01:08:42 we need to go back to basics number 141 Foolish Ashanti I hope there's back to basics. We need to go back to basics. Number 141. Foolish. Foolish Ashanti. See my days are cool without you. And I'm hurting while I'm with you. And my heart can't take no more.
Starting point is 01:08:58 I keep on running back to you. Underrated. I was like, can we see her not be with Ja Rule for a second? And then she did. And I loved it. And we didn't really get that much more of it. No, and Ja Rule, it's like you always hear Ashanti's angelic voice, and then you have to hear,
Starting point is 01:09:12 Murder! No. And Ja Rule, we're giving him too many passes still. Flop. Post-Firefest, I think people were still like, Ja Rule! Yeah, the Firefest thing should have been revealing, you know 140
Starting point is 01:09:27 fag pals Matt Rogers how does it feel to be on the list post he's a little obsessed with me justified should I perform it mhm me and you we used to fight like boom boom now we're together
Starting point is 01:09:47 with the faggots we are faggots i think i didn't really hit my one of my notes that was perfect don't don't do that don't go there okay you must just revel in the fact that Maren Morris herself. That was unbelievable. Has had that memory in her for years at this point. And she said Fag Pals on the show, which I felt was transcendent. Have we gotten
Starting point is 01:10:18 any note from any reader? Not a soul. She probably shouldn't have said that. No, no, no, no, no. And I'm not interested in that. I'm not saying, but I'm saying, in that. I'm not saying I'm not, but I'm saying, isn't it kind of remarkable? I would not be remarking on that if it weren't for the fact
Starting point is 01:10:29 that everyone was okay with it. No, everyone was on board. Also, I have to say something. The fact that she was able to get the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in a video saying that they want to come see us. When can we come see you?
Starting point is 01:10:41 They have no idea who we are. No. Or what we do. I kind of want to ask her, Marianne, I'm like, what did you say? Because she said,
Starting point is 01:10:48 they love you as much as you love them. I'm like, that's not true. That cannot be true. Kyle Richards doesn't know who I am. Sutton's like,
Starting point is 01:10:57 I don't know her from Adam. I don't know these two. Bowen Yang. Bowen Yang. I think I know him I know Crystal Kung Minkoff okay number 139
Starting point is 01:11:13 Angel Sarah McLachlan in the arms of the angel I know now it's like you know rife it's very easy to parody it or just kind of it. It's manipulative in the way that it is that we know it to be. But you don't get there without being a great song. No.
Starting point is 01:11:36 First and foremost. The fact is like ASPCA did that by enlisting Sarah. They said this is the way we're going to tug the heartstrings of America. And it worked. And it worked. So many more dogs have homes because a young girl put pen to paper. That's art. That's connection.
Starting point is 01:11:56 And the earnestness that you feel Will pull from the wreckage of your salary. In the eyes of the angel, may you find some comfort here. A haunting voice 138 not unlike 138 fucking run
Starting point is 01:12:29 Liz Fair old Liz old Liz OG Liz OG Liz which is just as good as 137
Starting point is 01:12:37 why can't I Liz Fair I put this on today on the way here I was like I gotta listen to why can't I it's giving 13
Starting point is 01:12:43 going on 30 montage a perfect song though pop music I put this on today on the way here. I was like, I got to listen to Why Can't I? It's giving 13 going on 30 montage. A perfect song, though. Pop music quaking when Liz Phair said, I'm getting in on it. That bridge. That bridge. Okay. Speaking of vocals, 136.
Starting point is 01:13:04 The middle, Zedd, but really Maren vocals 136 the middle Zed but really Maren Morris take a seat right over there sat on the stairs stay and leave the little places she finds the choices she makes at the end why don't you just meet me
Starting point is 01:13:20 in the middle baby you've seen that New York Times video we've talked about it on this podcast there seen that New York Times video, right? We've talked about it on this podcast. Hmm? There's that New York Times video about, like, songwriting. Oh, let's pause real fast. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:13:33 Someone is arriving. Okay. Someone is arriving. Um, all right, ready? No, the middle thing about, like, how everyone in town
Starting point is 01:13:45 wanted to sing that but you haven't seen this New York Times video about like songwriting like making a song yep yeah oh my god
Starting point is 01:13:51 it's amazing yeah and there's like oh there's like a larger piece maybe it's the same thing but it talks about how like singers were sending in their demos for it
Starting point is 01:13:57 yes yes yes and they picked Miss Marin oh and they and they nailed it nailed it massive colossal hit. That is how you sing pop music.
Starting point is 01:14:07 I just can't believe, I'm gagged that she... Baby! I mean like... She did the show. She did the show. That's wild. Sorry, not to make that about us,
Starting point is 01:14:15 but like... Episode 299. But she was such a natural. She was just like so like... She was great. So great to talk to. You gotta listen to the Marion episode if you haven't.
Starting point is 01:14:23 Oh my God. But for now, 135. Speaking of someone we'd need to get on the show. We to the Marion episode if you haven't. Oh my god. 135. Speaking of someone we need to get on the show. We need to get on the show. Everywhere, Michelle Branch. This is a song, not unlike the middle, where in the last chorus Oh my god!
Starting point is 01:14:37 We have another guest! We have another guest! Get into the seat. It's live. We're live. Tell everyone who's here. We have another guest. And's live. We're live. We're live. We're live. Tell everyone who's here. We have another guest. We have another guest. And who are you?
Starting point is 01:14:47 Tell them. She is Darcy Beth Carden. She's here to celebrate our big 300th. Wow. What the fuck is going on in here? Do you want a little mimosa? Yeah. Let's make a mimosa.
Starting point is 01:15:01 Here. I'll get a cup. No, no, no. Wait. Can we get a cup in here? Can we get a cup flown in thank you okay the cup is flying in
Starting point is 01:15:07 thank you Hans first of all iconic jump oh I actually it reminded me of one that you wore almost a year ago today you wanna know
Starting point is 01:15:15 when we did in this very room or one like it yes we did we did a really fun episode of this particular podcast we did an incredible episode and the reason I was in that is because that was sort of my rhinoplasty wear.
Starting point is 01:15:27 I remember. What? He had a bit of a shiny scar on his nose. I had sort of a scar. You can see it's really gone down. Thank you. Thank you so much. Do you want to mix it?
Starting point is 01:15:36 I will make it. So we are sort of, you know, for everyone out there who's like forgot why they started listening to this because it's been hours. We have been here since 10 a.m. It's been hours. We have been here since 10am. It's 1.56. We are recording a three part 300th episode celebration. This is the great global songbook and we've got some friends popping in. Greta was
Starting point is 01:15:54 on the last episode. Darcy Carden has just come in. And isn't it sorry to do this but on a league of their own my name is Greta. And on your show your name is Darcy. Can I tell you, it felt like kismet that this be the thing I book. It really did.
Starting point is 01:16:09 It did for me too. To be kept being called Darcy, it really feels so good for me. Cheers. Can we say cheers to that? Can we say cheers to that? Oh my God. Oh my God. What an absolute whirlwind.
Starting point is 01:16:21 300 eps. A true pleasure. I mean, we just texted people this morning. Everyone's coming in because they want to. I came out of a Pilates class. Are you feeling censored? Yeah. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:16:32 Actually, no, because it started off bad. Oh, no, it did? What happened? I came late to my class. Just a minute, but they'd already started. And I was in the front of the class so everybody could see me. And I reached for the strap. And guys, the teacher said, we're not using straps.
Starting point is 01:16:49 Excuse me? And I was humiliated. I started off humiliated. In that tone? No. Not in that tone. She probably said it in a Pilates tone. In a Pilates tone.
Starting point is 01:16:58 But it didn't feel. But she didn't need to say it. She could have whispered it. She could have just kind of given me like a motion. Right. So then I started off off. She could have just kind of given me like a motion. Right, yeah. So then I started off, off. And no, I wasn't centered. And is that why I'm here, guys?
Starting point is 01:17:10 Yes. No, I'm here to talk about the 300th episode. But we need to always gauge temperature. We need to level 10. And the temperature today was sort of off kilter Pilates. And now it's sort of like day mimosa on a Friday. And she almost fell. I'm also reminded of the time that you tossed up that.
Starting point is 01:17:28 What was the thing you tossed up and caught? I remember that. What was it? It was an orange juice bottle, but it wasn't. It was an orange juice bottle or something. Like, it was nighttime. So it was a water. It was a kombucha.
Starting point is 01:17:38 It was iced tea. Yeah, yeah, something like that. It was some beverage. There's always something in the air with Darcy. Of course. Things moving around. It's called je ne sais quoi. Je ne sais quoi. There's always something in the air with Darcy. Of course. Things moving around. It's called je ne sais quoi.
Starting point is 01:17:48 Je ne sais quoi. It's called je ne? Je ne. It's called je ne. Je ne. Okay, so. Whoa! Don't hit your damn head. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Starting point is 01:17:56 Talk about being off kilter. Come on. Off with her head. Now we're yelling at her. We're not doing straps. We're not doing straps. Doing straps. I'm so sorry someone yelled at you.
Starting point is 01:18:06 Of course, no. And I could have just looked at the person next to me and seen we're not doing straps. Whatever. Hi. Hi, everybody. She says. She says hi. Hans is in there.
Starting point is 01:18:16 He just kind of came in and you know what was interesting? What? He told us, we said, how did it come up? We were just like, what do you think is missing from this list of songs? And he said, it feels like you guys have deliberately avoided talking about this one thing in the culture that is so huge. Oh, fuck. What do you think he said? You guys have never talked about this one person in the culture, even though he's been, can you guess?
Starting point is 01:18:41 Yeah. Even though he is culture. And are you specifically looking at me while you're saying this? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he said that Even though he's like, he is culture. And are you like specifically looking at me while you said this? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he said that and I immediately was like, oh, it's this person. He was like, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:50 I knew too. Harry Styles? No. Okay, okay, okay. Michael Jackson. Whoa. Yeah, yeah. And then we talked about him.
Starting point is 01:18:56 Whoa. Why? Yeah. Interesting. Sort of surreal. How do we even get, I mean, did you already talk about him? We talked about him.
Starting point is 01:19:02 You don't have to talk about him. We're not going to put you on the spot. What do you think? So what do you think like really happened? I mean I have like I have so many thoughts about it and we shouldn't just because it's like so sad.
Starting point is 01:19:17 It's so sad and it's so hard to talk about stuff like I mean I think maybe the thesis statement is fame is awful? Yeah. It's gonna ruin you. Should we proceed with the list? Let's proceed with the list. Okay, so we're at number 134. I'm looking at the man
Starting point is 01:19:34 in the mirror. And can I tell you, that was the one that was the song that I brought up as being like, I wish I could feel like I could stream him responsibly because Man in the Mirror really is the shit. It is. It's an amazing song. But number 134 is La La Ashley Simpson. Okay. The great global songbook adds La La to the canon.
Starting point is 01:19:54 Okay. This was a song about dressing up like a French maid, sort of getting so horny that you wanted to fuck everywhere. Everywhere. Yeah. Now, okay, so I feel like, and I haven't looked at a single song on this list i feel like i will probably know 99.9 yeah what i know from this song is that she goes like you make me feel la la is that even close yeah okay okay that's all i know la la is a verb you make me wanna la la on the kitchen on the floor i'll be your French maid when I meet you at the door. I'm like an alley cat.
Starting point is 01:20:26 Drink the milk up, I want more. Which to me is cum. Wait, but do alley cats drink cum? I bet if they had nothing else. Yeah, if they were thirsty enough. I mean, if you were hungry enough. It's got calories. I drink cum and milk.
Starting point is 01:20:41 I do both, honey. These are cats, they can't tell it apart. Oh my god god poor cats just like putting that on them yeah and here's Ashley Simpson sort of like acting
Starting point is 01:20:49 like a fucking feral cat like that's how horny she is she's so horny for like her boyfriend at the time Ryan Cabrera
Starting point is 01:20:55 and you know what walked down the aisle recently yeah I believe the two of them nope nope he walked down the aisle
Starting point is 01:21:01 with somebody else and I want to say that I read that maybe like she one of his songs was being played or something oh i hope i hope it was this is true i actually had that ryan cabrera album because i was such a huge ashley simpson fan that i was like well i have to support her boyfriend yeah i get that ashley simpson yeah Ashley Simpson. And she was la-lying. When someone is a cat, when someone describes themselves as a cat, you better be Selina Kyle.
Starting point is 01:21:32 No one else, if anyone else says that they're a cat, I go, you're weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe that's too much. Because the three of us dog people. Woof. Woof, woof. And the fact that you answered with woof makes me feel like she speaks dog.
Starting point is 01:21:46 Woof, woof. But you wouldn't be like, I'm a dog. Oh, right. Never. People are literally out here being like, I'm a cat.
Starting point is 01:21:54 And it's, and why, well, I guess I was about to say like, why is cat inherently sexy? But they are pretty sexy. They are. I mean,
Starting point is 01:22:01 they lick themselves. They're so in their body. They actually need to lick themselves to clean themselves. To actually clean themselves. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how they shower. Yeah. I don. I mean, they lick themselves. They're so in their body. They actually need to lick themselves to clean themselves. To actually clean themselves. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how they shower.
Starting point is 01:22:07 Yeah. I don't mean to, you know, violently say people who pretend to be cats are foolish. I just think it's, I just, I find it strange. Yeah. Do cats ever get washed by the hands of a human? That's actually a really good question. I think the way they bathe themselves is fully their own doing. But, because also when you see a wet cat, it's so upset. It's so fucking. I think the way they bathe themselves is fully their own doing.
Starting point is 01:22:27 Because also when you see a wet cat, it's so upset. It's so fucked. But some of them like it. And it's so cute when the cat likes it. Really? When they like to be wet? There's some cats that are like dogs that just love to go in the water. Kind of like, hey. When a cat is a dog, I love it.
Starting point is 01:22:40 Oh, for sure. It's so rare. It's so rare, but it's so cute. When a cat is a dog. And when they're wet, they're as thin as a piece of paper. A hundred percent. They're so thin. They're so thin.
Starting point is 01:22:48 Like paper. They're paper thin. Goals. Hollywood goals. Hollywood goals. Okay, the next song. 133. Number 133.
Starting point is 01:22:55 Love Myself, Hailee Steinfeld. So it's well established on this podcast that Hailee Steinfeld is the queen of pop. She's the queen of pop and she has influence over the rest of the girls. Yeah, for sure. So when she comes out with a song, it sort of sets a new tone. Yeah. When Love Myself came out...
Starting point is 01:23:11 God damn it, I love this song. Yeah. Oh my God. When she goes... My favorite part is the end of the bridge when she goes... Oh, scream my name. Scream my name.
Starting point is 01:23:24 Oh, I love this and then it's like the thing goes remember the movie Blockers yes was this in Blockers oh yeah
Starting point is 01:23:35 I was like was she in Blockers it's like their song it is their song it's like their song and they're like we love this song and then the lesbians kiss
Starting point is 01:23:41 when the final chorus comes in on this song scream my name smooch who I'm named this song rocks this is
Starting point is 01:23:51 to me this was so good I don't really remember Hailey as a pop star before this song was this her coming out she was this was her
Starting point is 01:23:58 this was her yeah I think it was her first big single this was her true grit for music exactly it was her sort of
Starting point is 01:24:04 coming out in music. And now it's like, I don't even, I don't know. Do we primarily consider her an actress or a singer? Or is she just simply a star in both? I think she's a star in both. I think she's, who was like this? Who was like this like 20 years ago? To be an Oscar nominated actress.
Starting point is 01:24:21 Yeah. Yeah. Come on. To be an Oscar nominated actress. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Come on. To be an Oscar nominated actress and then to like dabble in pop and have it hit so hard. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:31 Who's done that? There's a lot of songs that are bops too. Like for example, Damn You're Such A. Damn You're Such A. Damn You're Such A. And also,
Starting point is 01:24:38 Most girls are strong and small and beautiful. No, smart and strong and beautiful. I said start and small. That's in a different language.
Starting point is 01:24:47 Yeah, well, honey, it's mimosa o'clock. It is a mimosa o'clock. The room is not really well lit. The next song on the list, 132. Our Lips Are Sealed by Hillary and Hayley Duff. Now, a lot of people are going to think we're going to talk about the original, the Go-Go's, Our Lips Are Sealed.
Starting point is 01:25:04 Not here. The cover. Okay. No. How cute. I think it was a Gap commercial where they were singing this song or a commercial for something. Probably, let's say, Gap, Lip Smacker, you know, Candies. Candies.
Starting point is 01:25:17 Oh, yeah, yeah. It's giving Candies. It's giving Steve Madden. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rave Girl. Yeah. My dumb ass growing up in high school thought, well, Steve Madden's sort of the nicest shoe you can get. The nicest shoe you could possibly get.
Starting point is 01:25:27 I thought that at the time, too. And he's, right now, he just got so hard. Yeah, he's like, oh. Steve's like, oh. Steve made this noise. I think because my mother actually told me it was the nicest shoe you could get. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:40 I remember she bought me some Steve Maddens and was like, and you know, these are Steve Madden. I know, it was really the shoe. It was the damn shoe. Anytime anything has a name like a Steve Madden or like it's named after someone, you're like, oh, designer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hello. Hello.
Starting point is 01:25:56 Look at me. I'm like racking my brain for one name that I could say right now. Paul Smith. Thank you for addressing me for the premiere. What was the name? Rick Perry. Rick Perry. Rick Perry Rick Perry Rick Perry
Starting point is 01:26:06 I wish he would start stepping into you know wardrobe please and away from whatever it is and away from all that
Starting point is 01:26:13 garbage garbage you know who actually has a really chic designer name who this sucks Marco Rubio
Starting point is 01:26:19 oh yeah that's a great name oh yeah that's a great name twood that he could twood that he could Shakespeare yeah hello cheers have you ever done Shakespeare yeah I love it That's a great name. Oh, yeah. That's a great name. Twid that he could. Twid that he could. Shakespeare.
Starting point is 01:26:25 Yeah, hello. Cheers. Have you ever done Shakespeare? Yeah. I love it. I live for it. Oh, yeah. Really?
Starting point is 01:26:33 Do you do iambic pentameter? Da-da-dee-da-da-da-doo. Yeah. Same stuff. One, two, three, four, five. Oh, my God. Number 131. Graduation.
Starting point is 01:26:42 Friends forever. By vitamin C. Okay. Wow. Holy shit. Yeah. We remember when when we graduated oh yeah we do at our high schools on the field probably god two of my best friends and i put a purple flower in our hair and we got a little drunk that's so sweet yeah too drunk too drunk not too drunk just like like like secret drunk where it was kind of like nobody knows when you were singing this song
Starting point is 01:27:07 there's that lyric where we're gonna be when we turn 25 Christ and then it just and then you were like that's so far away yeah
Starting point is 01:27:13 and now look at us yeah the answer is like when you're 25 it's like where are you gonna be it's like probably still like seeing everyone at Christmas
Starting point is 01:27:21 like really close to where you just were like pretty much the same shit like home a lot of times yeah yeah like pretty much the same home a lot of times yeah a lot of times like really got like probably attending one or nine weddings yeah yeah but you didn't know that before no you thought when like when you were 18 you were 18 you thought you would be a completely different a business woman for example yeah working at a magazine yeah yeah yeah oh my god yeah and it was just a bit, just a little bit out of high school.
Starting point is 01:27:46 Yeah. Literally. As we go on. Oh yeah, but wait, do you guys think of this as high school graduation or college? For sure high school. High school.
Starting point is 01:27:53 Yeah. Okay, you guys want to know something? What? They taught us this song in the fifth grade. For fifth grade graduation to middle school? Yeah. Remember the concept of fifth grade graduation? I'm not into that at all.
Starting point is 01:28:05 We did it. It was like, we put on little caps and gowns and everything. And I was like, what the fuck is this show? Yeah, I'm not into that. Too much. There's two graduations. They're called high school and college. Yeah, that's what they're called.
Starting point is 01:28:14 And if you're a damn doctor, med school. Oh, yeah, that's true. And a lawyer, lawyer school. Lawyer school. Whatever. Whatever. The caps are little hexagons. I don't fucking know.
Starting point is 01:28:23 I don't fucking care. They're all such liars I skipped my college graduation you did? yeah I straight up skipped it and I kind of pretend to be a hero
Starting point is 01:28:31 because my brother's high school graduation and my college graduation were the same day and my mom was like what to do? and I was like I'll take one for the team
Starting point is 01:28:40 and skip it but I really just like didn't want to go so I kind of I kind of put on like the hero cape like I'm taking
Starting point is 01:28:46 I'm like a really good daughter and I'm not going to make my parents decide but instead I just like slept in yeah that's hot that is so fucking badass
Starting point is 01:28:54 I performed at my year's graduation I know well yeah I sang a song called learn to love and live on the field of Yankee Stadium you and I had such
Starting point is 01:29:02 different fucking I was so depressed that day. You were, and you guys were together? Like, were you? Well, we weren't like together. We were not sitting together
Starting point is 01:29:10 because we were different programs, but I sat with the Tisch kids. You did? Isn't that dark? I sat with the Tisch kids and I looked around and everyone was so excited. My family didn't come
Starting point is 01:29:20 because I was going to fly out the next day to visit them and to see them in Europe and then we were going to do like, They didn't come to your graduation? Because back then it the next day to visit them and to see them in Europe and then we were gonna do like they didn't come to your graduation because back then it was like I get it they were like we can't afford like the new york ticket in the hotel and so we're just gonna how about you just meet us in Rome you know like the day after your graduation I was like that's fine but then like I didn't realize that the day on the day I would feel so sad alone yeah I was just by myself and it was just and then I was terrified for what life was going to be like.
Starting point is 01:29:45 Babe. And it was sad. This is before Bowen and I were like best friends. So we were close friends but I actually was with all those kids. That was Matt's little Tish era. It was. It was in his Tish era.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Not your Tish era. Well, I went to Tish. Your actor era right I literally I mean go on we sang a song called do you remember this learn to love and live
Starting point is 01:30:10 which was maybe we how did it go maybe we can learn to love and live the world is different why should I stay the same
Starting point is 01:30:19 acceptance can lead the way to change and it's time it's time to see that together we can make history now is where our lives begin stop and take it all in tish ass tish ass it was holy shit i can like picture the the like 23 year old that wrote that that had just graduated he was 20 there were two of them and it became like
Starting point is 01:30:47 the NYU theme song and I sang it in a show that we did every year and then on the field at Yankee Stadium in front of Sonia Sotomayor our speaker God and everyone we sang it and I remember feeling so emotional that I was performing on the stage of Yankee Stadium
Starting point is 01:31:04 okay here's my high school. Wait, I just said high school. Go. But what I meant to say is elementary school. Greenbrook, Greenbrook, I'm so glad that you're my school. Oh, wow. Greenbrook, Greenbrook, everybody's really cool. No!
Starting point is 01:31:24 Okay, then it's something like We got a We got an ice cream social And a talent show too Something, something and homework to do Right here at Green Brook Green Brook Everybody I'm so glad that you're my school

I'm so glad that you're my school. Readers, I wish you could see the smile that Matt just gave us. Well, it's beautiful. Yeah, it's beautiful. It really does lift your spirits.
Starting point is 01:31:55 It really did. Did I ever tell you the song that I learned at Boys State? No. Remember Boys State? Well, that four-hour documentary? Yeah. So I went to Boys State, New York, and we also had to learn a song. And it went,
Starting point is 01:32:05 Here in the Cherry Valley, Boy State campus rings with cheer. That's where our Legion Boy State meets this year. We learn to live together. Learn democracy. A melting pot for color, creed, and nationality. Everyone was white. That's how it ended. But, yeah. Less catchy.
Starting point is 01:32:36 Less catchy. But you sang it beautifully. Thank you so much. I'm pish. Yeah. Number 100. What? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:43 I want to contribute one song. Go. Oh, yeah. Which is another song we learned in the fifth grade. Go ahead. Celebrate, celebrate, a celebration of you and me. Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate you and me. Hey.
Starting point is 01:33:02 Celebrate you and me. The song was about celebrating you and me. Hardly anything to it. Celebrate. Celebrate. A celebration of you and me. Celebrate. Celebrate. A celebration of you and me.
Starting point is 01:33:16 Celebrate you and me. That rocked. All three of these songs Yeah Belong on the list What about this one? The rainforest The tropical rainforest
Starting point is 01:33:30 The fuck is that? Was that the state of the rainforest? Yeah Did it work? We can go like this Okay readers I'm waving my hands back and forth Like a tree
Starting point is 01:33:38 All that beauty The rainforest The tropical rainforest All that beauty All that beauty And then rainforest, the tropical rainforest. All that beauty. All that beauty. And then I think there was a rap. Oh, good. A rap.

Starting point is 01:34:23 Watch all new seasons on Bravo or stream it on City TV+. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba. He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere. Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzalez.
Starting point is 01:34:50 Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home
Starting point is 01:35:03 and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban,

Starting point is 01:35:45 from the age of 13 to being one of today's biggest artists. I had such a victim mentality. I took zero accountability for anything in my life. I was the kid that if you asked what happened,
Starting point is 01:36:15 I immediately started with everything but me. It took years for me to break that, like years of work. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Trust me, you won't want to miss this one. I'm Julian Edelman. I'm Rob Gronkowski. Starting point is 01:37:49 I feel, well, good as dead. Her imperial pop star face is over. Good as dead. I think she has another something in her.
Starting point is 01:37:57 No, she's pretty high up on the list. She's a few more songs. She has a couple more songs on the list. Of course she does. Which we are.

I can't stop thinking of you. Yeah. Wow, Stacey Eureka, I don't fucking recognize that name. There's gotta be more to life than chasing out every step of every life.
Starting point is 01:38:54 Do it's not as timely. Let's move on. She's great. 128. I want to be bad. Willa Ford. Make bad look so good. She's so good at being bad. Yeah, she's one of the baddest bitches. Yeah, be bad. Willa Ford. Make bad look so good. She's so good at being bad.
Starting point is 01:39:05 Yeah, she's one of the baddest bitches. Yeah, she bad. I always thought she was going to be huge. Yeah. No shade, Willa. I think she probably did, too. It got really crowded, you know, in the pop-up. It did, it did.
Starting point is 01:39:15 I think she'd fare better today. Willa, come back. Willa, come back. There's a Willa-shaped space for you. There is. There is. There's a Willa hole. Willa, we want you to live.
Starting point is 01:39:24 Oh, God. We want you to live, Willa. You guys, can we keep moving for you. There is. There is. There's a Willa hole. Willa, we want you to live. Oh, God. We want you to live, Willa. You guys, can we keep moving? Yeah. Yeah. Number 127. You gotta be by Desiree. You gotta be bad.
Starting point is 01:39:33 You gotta be, you gotta be wiser. She's so right. She's so right. She really got, she had something with that. God damn. Because women have to be everything. Can you speak to that as a woman in the industry? As a woman in the industry, you have to be
Starting point is 01:39:46 bad. You have to be bold. You have to be wiser. Yes! Honestly though, you really do. And then you turn 40 and they forget about you. Oh my god. Well, we know that's not true. Honey. Barry season 3 now streaming. 126.

Starting point is 01:40:11 is it possible that you've said that on this podcast before? Yes, we've talked about this on the podcast. We've talked about it. I think that I have heard that then. So Perfect Day, so she sort of has
Starting point is 01:40:18 two songs of note. Perfect Day, nothing's gonna in my way. Which appears here. And then also, iconically from the film Snow Day, Another Dumb Blonde. Oh, that sounds familiar. Snow Day. That's alright, that's okay, you never loved me anyway.
Starting point is 01:40:40 And I think it's time for you Oh yeah To just move on Yeah, yeah, yeah It's alright It's alright It's alright This memory God, he's got it We've gotta move on
Starting point is 01:40:52 Yeah Number 125 Come clean Remix Hilary Duff Drug alert You're on a drug When you listen to this song
Starting point is 01:41:00 Hope so Oh, interesting You better be tripping wolves Yes Oh, he's Like, be tripping wolves. Yes. Oh, he's... Like, honestly, I don't think there's any better beginning of a song than
Starting point is 01:41:09 Let's go back Back to the beginning And then this. Set it off. Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all alive
Starting point is 01:41:20 Like, Hilary Duff like, truly being like Celestial woman. So cosmic. Celestial, cosmic, like Professor Tre being, like, celestial. So cosmic. Celestial, cosmic. So cosmic. Like, Professor Trelawney vibes. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:41:29 Yes. That's what she is in this song. You can picture her waving her arms around. Like, she's like, the rainforest. Yeah. The tropical rainforest. Okay, number 124. Oh, it's cool, Gwen Stefani.
Starting point is 01:41:42 An overlooked song, so thank you for putting it on this list a lot of her popular songs don't appear sorry sorry but cool is is I think it's track four on love angel music baby it's one of my favorite songs of all time and it has one of the best music videos ever such a good music video this is just a like this
Starting point is 01:42:00 is one of those songs where it's like if you know you know if you know you know yeah and she said blondes can be brunette and still be Gwen Stefani beautiful. Yes, she did. And she was and she is. She did, she was, she is. About anything uncool?
Starting point is 01:42:13 Just that. Coo-coo. You know what I love? What? In the second verse, when she says her last, I know what cool. and there's like a tear in her eye in the video
Starting point is 01:42:28 you can hear the tear in her eye totally and the tear in her eye in the video you know that the second they called cut she was like
Starting point is 01:42:34 yes she was like fuck yes yeah I fucking got it I did it I also wonder if she did that dirt with the track
Starting point is 01:42:40 playing or she did it a bunch of times in the wild I love notes I want to know in the clear yeah totally give me just I want to know. In the clear. Yeah, totally. Give me,
Starting point is 01:42:46 just give me, give me a moment. I wonder who directed it. Yeah, hold on. Matt's giving us a finger. He's being Gwen. He's saying like, give me a moment.
Starting point is 01:42:53 I'm getting there. You know what I love? I love, I love getting to do a series where I got to do that because a couple of times I do have to, well, spoiler alert.
Starting point is 01:43:02 I did get to do that thing where I was like, yeah, I can see you doing that like with a hand up just like looking at someone and sort of nodding like it's not a good time and then having people be like
Starting point is 01:43:11 it's not a good time and you're on camera or you're like getting ready to do your scene it was like I was like in the dressing room yeah for sure for sure
Starting point is 01:43:17 oh my god listening to your song or whatever thinking about your things and none of them were working yeah and then the reason
Starting point is 01:43:23 I ended up being able to cry is because I was so frustrated and upset that I wasn't getting there that it made me cry that's good because that can really
Starting point is 01:43:31 throw a wrench in the old wheels when you start getting in your head about I can't produce and then you're like oh fuck me it wasn't like
Starting point is 01:43:40 an honest actual emotion it's like who cares mama as long as it's looking like it I have a playlist on my phone for crying songs like an honest actual emotion. Who cares, babe? Who cares, mama, as long as it's looking like it. Yeah. I have a playlist on my phone for crying songs. You do?
Starting point is 01:43:50 Yeah. I want you to share it with me. I will. And I want to see if actually the things... Yeah, I mean, we could all use that. It's a long... They don't always work every day. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:43:58 So you kind of got to scroll through and you're like, huh, this one's not working today. I kind of want to share the note that Andrew Ahn gave me on the movie but that's kind of a spoiler is there a way you can unspoil it?
Starting point is 01:44:08 okay I am sad I'm going somewhere and I'm supposed to cry and he basically tells me and I was like producing and I was like I was like getting it
Starting point is 01:44:21 and I was like okay I think I'm doing okay but then he comes over he goes imagine looking back I was like getting it and I was like okay I think I'm doing okay but then he comes over he goes imagine looking back and leaving behind the person you once were
Starting point is 01:44:32 he was like you're mourning that and then immediately got and I was like yep and then I was sobbing you know what's funny a good director great director
Starting point is 01:44:39 a director that we worked with Desiree Akhavan on I Love That For You, gave a similar note to a castmate of mine. She's so cool. Like the thing of when she sees this image of herself, she sees the girl she used to be. That'll kill.
Starting point is 01:44:55 Oh my God. And it really worked for her too. And I was just like, oh wow, that's like, she used to be mine of it all. Yeah, totally. You know what I mean? So moving on from cool
Starting point is 01:45:05 which really provoked an amazing discussion me on acting and thank god thank you Gwen did you see me just loosen up my buttons yeah she loosened
Starting point is 01:45:13 up her buttons babe because number 123 is buttons by the pussycat dolls and I have respected Nicole Scherzinger ever since buttons me too
Starting point is 01:45:22 that's when you started no I started during her pop Stars audition. Yeah, of course you did. Oh, I see. But I mean like knowing she was formidable. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:30 Buttons. Buttons. But Buttons. I was a little too like pearl clutchy with Don't Ya and then Buttons came out and was like,
Starting point is 01:45:36 oh, she's here to stay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then Stick With You came out and it was like, I remember I was getting ready for school and I had music videos on because I used to like
Starting point is 01:45:44 watch like MTV RVH1 in the morning getting ready, eating breakfast. And Stick With You came on and it was the Pussycats all of a sudden. All my mom had ever heard was like buttons and beep and like, I don't give a fuck, keep looking at my pussy and whatever. And the last note of Stick With You, which is not this song, it's buttons. And when she goes, I'm a stick with you. And then my mom goes, Hey! She has a nice voice!
Starting point is 01:46:09 Hold on! And my mom literally, she looked up from whatever she was doing, she was like, Hey! Hey! She has a nice voice! Why is she Pussycat Doll?
Starting point is 01:46:19 Oh, interesting. And I was like, because she's making it work, Mom. Yeah, that's right. She was like, she was teaching us. She was teaching us. Hey,
Starting point is 01:46:26 Hey, she has a nice voice. Mommy, Christy, Christina, Chrissy, Katrina, Katrina.
Starting point is 01:46:33 You got it. No, you got it. Richie and Trina. 122. 122. Fancy by Reba. Fancy.
Starting point is 01:46:41 I remember it all very well. Looking back, it was the summer I turned 18 I don't know the rest. I don't either, but this is like a great... One of the best. One of the songs. One of those songs.
Starting point is 01:46:51 Great. If you know it so well, you better be doing it at karaoke. You know what I mean? You better be doing it at karaoke. 121, Immaterial, Sophie. Amazing song. I mean, we give it up to the great beyond.
Starting point is 01:47:03 120, Square Biz, great beyond. 120. Square Biz, Tina Marie. Amazing. My aunt's name, but that's... Tina Marie? Neither here nor there. Spelled differently. And I don't think it's the same person. I don't think so either.
Starting point is 01:47:15 Yeah. I think you would know. I think so too. Because you'd be rich. Tina Marie's so famous. So famous. So famous and rich. Number 119.
Starting point is 01:47:23 A Boy Like That, Rita Moreno. Okay, Ariana found dead. Oh my God. Wait, A Boy Like That recently said a lot on this podcast when you had those two fucking Dodds on. Oh my God. A Boy Like That, who killed your brother. I think Aaron at one point said, a joke like that.
Starting point is 01:47:40 A joke like that, that you would say. And find a new joke. It's the perfect opening to a song Yeah A boy like that Will kill your brother Forget that boy And find another One of your own kind
Starting point is 01:47:56 Stick to your own kind Also we should say Great version of that with Ariana No Yes but Not what I was bringing up it's
Starting point is 01:48:07 Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews yes oh my god cool they used to do like musical like like mashups
Starting point is 01:48:15 like in like the fucking 60s yeah oh my god they used to do very Matt and Bowen stuff yes
Starting point is 01:48:21 Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews sort of got that from us yeah they did this like Matt and Bowen thing. Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews sort of got that from us. Yeah, they did this like Matt and Bowen thing. They were doing us. They were like really, they understood it.
Starting point is 01:48:32 You know what I mean? They were doing Lost Cultures. What you guys were doing, yeah. Lost Cultures, yeah. You're Carol. That's so great. That's interesting for me. I love you as Julie.
Starting point is 01:48:41 I may be Julie. I have a love. But you're the better vocalist and Carol wasn't necessarily the better vocalist and Carol wasn't necessarily the better vocalist. But she, oh, you guys,
Starting point is 01:48:46 Carol and Annie. Carol in Annie. Yeah. Like, formative. Uh-huh. Life-changing. Truly life-changing.
Starting point is 01:48:57 Did you, was that one of your cultures? Annie? It might, I did. Annie's been brought up on this podcast. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:49:03 if it wasn't, it is. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think mine, and now this goes back five plus years ago, my first time on this podcast. Yeah, if it wasn't, it is. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think mine, and now this goes back five plus years ago, my first time on this. Oh my God, yes. Or something.
Starting point is 01:49:09 But I think it was something like musicals. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would have, yeah. Carol Burnett really like, and Annie really sort of. Broke it open. Changed my life. Okay, you guys, we need to keep moving. Number 118, Mi Reflejo, Christina Aguilera.
Starting point is 01:49:23 Let's take that one more time. Yeah. Number 118, Mi Reflejo, Christina Aguilera. Let's take that one more time. Yeah. Number 118, Mi Reflejo, Christina Aguilera. Number 117, Reflection, Lea Salonga. Now, these are very similar songs. Sure. The one is English, one is Spanish. One is sang by an Asian person.
Starting point is 01:49:40 Que es la girl a la sea? I like that. I like that I like that Spanglish I like that Oh my god I'm so excited for this next one Okay Number 116 Poor unfortunate souls Oh my God, I'm so excited for this next one. Okay. Number 116.
Starting point is 01:50:10 Poor Unfortunate Souls, Pat Carroll. This is like a song that I think we take for granted. Yeah. And I implore you. I mean, we've got a lot of songs here for you guys to listen to, readers. But to go back and listen to this, it is fucking flawless. Hilarious. Sounds good. It is, it is perfect every time. Fucking flawless. Yeah. Hilarious. Sounds good. It tells a story.
Starting point is 01:50:28 She is, I just, I just did kind of a deep dive on this song recently. Really? Yeah. And, and it was,
Starting point is 01:50:34 and I, I'm like blown away by, by Pat Carroll. Think, think about the fact that like, and also we should say, shout out to Crystal Kung Minkoff's husband,
Starting point is 01:50:41 Rob, who did the original character design for Ursula. Then they found an amazing performer Pat Carroll to embody that it's like one of those things where it's like you imagine that Ursula just sort of was and always has been
Starting point is 01:50:53 but they had to create her and Ursula is iconic and also there is not a better and I know that Robin Williams as the genie looms large as a charm song in Disney or what? I just mean like vocal performance in a Disney movie. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Pat Carroll as Ursula is top three.
Starting point is 01:51:09 Yeah, yeah. 100%. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Oh my God. This song is part, it's one of my favorites. It's one of my favorite songs ever. It's what made me identify with the villain.
Starting point is 01:51:18 Yeah. That's the gay, that's the queer thing. They're the most fun. They're the most fun. Yeah, like James Adomian has a joke that like Ursula is like, if all the Disney villains are gay, Ursula is like if all the Disney villains are gay Ursula is like
Starting point is 01:51:27 the lesbian bartender who's like we're closed but you can stay for a drink like really carry that the way she swishes
Starting point is 01:51:34 the lipstick on oh yeah just how titty forward she is the titty forward her like body body and then when she
Starting point is 01:51:40 said body language ha it's so good it's drag oh her body her fucking body in that black suit they think a girl When she said body language. It's so good. It's drag. Oh, her body. Her fucking body in that black suit. They think a girl who gossips is a bore. She's not bland.
Starting point is 01:51:52 It's much preferred. Not to say a word. What is Idol trying to fuck? Come on! Not on that impressive conversation. She doesn't let a single word go. No. Like, she just.
Starting point is 01:52:02 True gentlemen avoid it when they can. God. I really. Yeah. Like she just True gentlemen avoid it when they can. God. I really Yeah. Like all praise be. We're thinking about it. I know.
Starting point is 01:52:11 Amazing. Just I think I think we take it for granted. We do. Yes you're so right. Especially listeners of this pod are probably
Starting point is 01:52:18 they probably grew up with it you know like it was always in their life. Yeah yeah yeah. It was never it was never new. Yeah. Give it a
Starting point is 01:52:24 give it a new listen. Give it a spin. I know we all know it's great and we all appreciate it, but I think there's even more room for appreciation. Appreciation. Absolutely. And speaking of, number 115. Once Upon a Dream, Lana Del Rey from Maleficent.
Starting point is 01:52:40 This really did make me excited for Maleficent when I heard this. I know you. I walked with you on. I was like, this is a great choice. It was a different Lana back then, and it was a really smart idea for them to go, we're going to have Lana sing this and have it be like Maleficent, you know?
Starting point is 01:52:58 Yeah, 100%. Hello! Okay, wait. Are you still rolling? Are we still rolling, Doug? Okay, we're still are you still rolling are we still rolling okay we're still rolling okay so we're gonna do a little swap
Starting point is 01:53:09 we have a little we have a little swap so we have been we have been graced by Darcy Card and thank you for coming thank you Darcy I know how I feel about you
Starting point is 01:53:17 I love you both I love you we love you so much oh my god I can't believe and I want you to know that if Pilates didn't go well I hope that we can
Starting point is 01:53:24 we can re-kilter your off-kilter. You really did. Good. Yeah. Oh my God, he's so hot. So hot. It's so crazy to see him in person because he's so hot. I know, you've only seen him look hot in a trailer recently.
Starting point is 01:53:36 Not once, but 20 times. Oh my gosh. Over and over and over. Well, who is this person that we're even talking about? Are we still rolling? Yes. Can you imagine if this? Are we still rolling? Yes. Can you imagine if this was just our not rolling? No.
Starting point is 01:53:49 We were a little bit performed. We are at 114 on the list of 300. And we are welcoming in Joel Kim Booster, everybody. Okay. I'm going to. Love you guys. Love you. See you soon, readers.
Starting point is 01:54:00 See you soon, readers. Yes. A little hint. Hello, Joel Kim. So much. So much. So much. Okay. Bye, guys. I love you. Welcome to soon readers. Yes. Little hint. Hello, Joel Kim. So much, so much, so much. Welcome to our 300th episode.
Starting point is 01:54:10 I'm so honored to be here. And I honestly think like when people heard that Darcy was about to be swapped, I'm sure they were furious. And I'm sure like it's a 50, 50 split of people being like, this is okay. It's me. And then 50 people being like,
Starting point is 01:54:24 no, no, no. Oh my gosh. We're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, people being like, this is okay, it's me, and then 50 people being like upset that it's me instead. No, oh my gosh. Love you, bye! Alright, everyone at home. So, Joel Kim, you're joining us in process. We've just revealed that... Oh my, Darcy just lost her tits.
Starting point is 01:54:38 We saw her titties. But it was tasteful. We are sort of soaring through the 300 songs in the great global song book we've revealed that it is a countdown there is going to be a number one song
Starting point is 01:54:52 would you like to make Joel a mimosa? yes, I would love a mimosa can we fly in a cup? we're going to fly in a cup while we say we just did number 115 now we have number 114. The worst pies in London, Angela
Starting point is 01:55:08 Lansbury. Huge. What a huge song. Huge for her, specifically. In her career right now, she needs to be reinvigorated. You know what's crazy? She is still kicking. Yeah. Angela Lansbury is still very much around in here. But we don't talk about her enough. Bring her back for All Stars. Bring her back for All Stars.
Starting point is 01:55:24 She needs that oomph, that kick. I heard she does really well. I heard it's her and Evie Audley at the end. Well, she comes back with those new teeth and the fillers. The new teeth and the fillers and the sort of like, you know, the work is really fresh. But the good news is it's going to be a ballad, the last top two. So Evie can't do any of her tricks. So Angela will stand a chance.
Starting point is 01:55:46 She's a park and barker, that one chance she's a park and barker that one she's a park and barker she's a Latrice Royale she's Willow cheers Joel coming in for our 300th thank you so much
Starting point is 01:55:53 I wouldn't have missed it for the fucking world we had Greta we had Darcy and now we have Joel it's all stars it is it's really all stars
Starting point is 01:56:00 okay so moving on from Worst Price in London really my favorite Sondheim Sweeney Todd. But now, 113, Beauty and the Beast, Angela Lansbury. Who could have done it better? Who did do it better?
Starting point is 01:56:15 I mean, Celine Dion and Peebo Bryson would argue that they did. Who did it in the live action? Emma? Ariana. Ariana. Oh, no, Emma Thompson, I guess. Emma Thompson I guess Emma Thompson she can't she doesn't have the
Starting point is 01:56:28 look we love Emma Thompson but Angela Lansbury it's sort of like the quality yeah the quality you know the quality she has the quality
Starting point is 01:56:35 she has the quality when this is the line off to the cupboard with you now Chip it's past your bedtime your bedtime also like you can't no one else can say that but Angela there's also something to be said about like Off to the cupboard with you now, Chip. It's past your bedtime. Your bedtime. Also, like...
Starting point is 01:56:45 You can't... No one else can say that but Angela. There's also something to be said about, like, a song that sits, like, exactly in someone's, like, range. Like, Angela Lansbury, like, whenever she's like, ever just the same,
Starting point is 01:56:55 you're like, is she gonna get there? But she gets there. She gets there. Wait, who did the pop version, though, for the remake? Was it Ariana and John Legend? It was Ariana and John Legend.
Starting point is 01:57:02 Yes. Got it. Yes, yes. Got it. It sort of was like. Why a man? Why a man added in the pop versions? Well, because Peebo Bryson
Starting point is 01:57:10 and Celine originally did do it, so I think that's what they were calling back to. Oh. Ever just the same. Ever a surprise. Remember that? Peebo.
Starting point is 01:57:23 John Legend can never. Peebo, baby. Peebo nailed. Peebo, baby. Peebo nailed. Peebo sounds like, Peebo sounds, Peebo, what is his name? Peebo. P-E-A-B-O, Peebo.
Starting point is 01:57:32 Peebo Bryson sounds like Simlish. Yeah. Lots for, lots for we do. Lots for we do. Okay. Was it, who was it,
Starting point is 01:57:39 which of you asked me to sing a song in Simlish? I asked you to sing The Wizard and I in Simlish. It is still recorded on my boyfriend's phone. It is not in Simlish at all. It is fully sung in English, but in the weirdest affect. I will get it, and the next time I'm on the podcast,
Starting point is 01:57:56 we will play it for the masses, because it is one of the most bizarre things you've ever done, and that's saying a lot. That's saying a lot. Well, speaking of bizarre, people might not see this one coming number 112 on the great global songbook is congratulations by rupaul this is a song on the culture i love this it's a great song congratulations you're number one because it makes you feel good yeah yeah it does what is the um what is the line that we love so much from condragulations oh um oh no is it are you thinking of bring back my girl
Starting point is 01:58:31 so bring back my girls was already on the list and we spoke about vodka with cranberry thank you doll and also she's gonna go to the work room rethink her life that's the other line it's not her night but it's the condragulations did rank above bring back my girls yeah um yeah better than i'm a winner like i would rather hear condragulations yeah over you're a winner like literally as a sentence i would rather someone say to me yeah congratulations yeah over you're a way like when the movie comes out like if people are like congratulations I would be like I would love that everyone please tell Joel congratulations congratulations number 111 on the list what's my age again Blink 182 do you know this is the song that I come out to when I do clubs. Really? For stand-up.
Starting point is 01:59:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why that choice? Why did you pick this? Because I like, so I swap between Normani's motivation and this. And it really depends on the mood that I'm in and how homophobic I feel the audience might be. Right, right, right. Like, when I'm in Orange County, it's What's My Age Again. Because I need to let them know that I can speak to their culture, too.
Starting point is 01:59:45 Absolutely. Like, you come in peace. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. I think the thing about What's My Age Again, too, is it is a storytelling song. And that's sort of, it's a narrative. And that makes me feel like, where is the What's My Age Again musical? Where's the movie?
Starting point is 02:00:00 Oh, that'll come. Kids today do not understand the way that they have access to porn and the way i used to have to jerk off to this music video because it was the closest to a naked male body i could access at the time oh my god yeah yeah because they were always nude but i i remember at the time like not identifying as being attracted to any of them of the blink 182 boys but now i am i was tom yeah tom and still am largely just any naked body uh-huh yeah right right right right at the time yes okay but for people our age faggots our age it was sean william scott for sure yeah on that on that cover what was it like teens it was like 17 or something
Starting point is 02:00:41 it was 17 it was like teen people teen people or something i remember it was iconic cover my sister used to leave her 17 magazines on the top of the toilet seat not the seat the back of the toilet and there was a there was a 17 magazine where it literally went through the different underwear types for men and there was a spread like a like a photo shoot for each one and i it's ingrained in my brain like yeah the briefs yeah my god yeah i remember i when we would go to like jc penny or whatever like a lord and taylor i would just go to the i just go to the underwear section and look at every all the yep yep and i remember i think i actually fucked a men's health magazine like i fucked the magazine itself. Like I rubbed my dick on it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Amazing.
Starting point is 02:01:26 So anyway, the next 110 is Berlin by Macy Rodman. A perfect song. Just talking about A perfect artist. Perfect artist. Just talking to a friend
Starting point is 02:01:36 about her time in Berlin. Please give it a listen. Please give it a listen. You know what should it be on this list? What? Murder on the stupid bitch express
Starting point is 02:01:45 that is not a song technically it is a podcast but it is audio that's true I guess for a song book we'd have to go to
Starting point is 02:01:53 the blue ribbon panel about that can we have Megan and Abby start talking about that okay they left oh yeah we fired them
Starting point is 02:02:00 I guess there's no one now to figure that out mommy and daddy are gone cats away yeah 109. Death to all of them. T. Kyle Dance Remix, Wendy Williams. Amazing.
Starting point is 02:02:11 Kind of dark, though. You know what's really crazy? How dark it's gotten since we announced the nominations for the Cultural Women's. Yeah, I mean, literally, this is sort of the reason that they didn't happen. Well... Oh, I forgot. Now they are. I forgot.
Starting point is 02:02:24 Now they're happening. They're happening, finally. We'll just have to find sort of a way around that, or, Oh, I forgot. I forgot. I forgot. They're happening. They're happening. We'll just have to find sort of a way around that. Right. Yeah. I think Wendy might have to lose all her awards. Yeah. Or maybe,
Starting point is 02:02:32 maybe when it'll be her first public appearance. Yeah. Maybe that. Maybe she should host. I mean, she's missing hosting. Oh my God. She claims an interview.
Starting point is 02:02:40 She can, but she also refuses to be seen on those interviews. Number 108. I don't want it at all, Kim Petras. Sort of the song that introduced us all to Kim Petras. Yeah, I would say so. And you know, I got my straight sister into Kim Petras through this song. My first intro was Hillside Boys.
Starting point is 02:03:01 Hillside Boys. So you waited around. The first, it was Jared Frieder introduced me so blame him for introducing me to hillside boys first but it was the third day I lived in LA I know and you were there you got it yeah yeah that's very Jared to be like you live in a hillside boy you're a whole side boy Joel has a new home oh have you seen it yet? No. You're coming tonight. Tonight?
Starting point is 02:03:29 Hillside Boys, you call my name. Number 107. A song that's been performed on this podcast many times, often badly. Yes. Sometimes well. Sometimes well. Let Me Be Your Star by Catherine McPhee and Megan Hilty. Truly. I was literally just at the Echoplex
Starting point is 02:03:47 where you sang it live for the LA audience. Remember that? Did we sing it there at the Echoplex? We sang it at the Echoplex. That was in the Echo Park? Oh yeah, Echoplex. Fading on a girl. It really all matters if you can just start it correctly.
Starting point is 02:04:00 It is crazy to me because I always, always, always, I get that vocally you are singing the parts that are appropriate for you, but in terms of type, I always have it swapped in my head. You are Ivy and you are Karen. To me.
Starting point is 02:04:18 To me. I think at the time At the time it felt It was not that way. Yeah. You got big titty he has Catherine McPhee titty yeah yeah yeah maybe
Starting point is 02:04:29 maybe I don't know I really feel like honestly nowadays we could switch but I think Joel's ultimately right yeah you think
Starting point is 02:04:36 I think I think you're like the bombastic here's what I think you have more vocal brass ooh you no that's not true at all.
Starting point is 02:04:46 Yes, you do. You are flashback to a girl. That's you. You just did it. And I'm in my mix. You just did it. I'm in my mix, girl. You're both.
Starting point is 02:04:56 Matt is just... Fading on a girl. Here. That was awful. I can't. Here, I'm going to try. Okay. Fading on a girl with a hunger for fame.
Starting point is 02:05:13 That is Karen. And a face. You would love to be Ivy. Flashback to a girl With a song in her heart And she's waiting to start The adventure The fire and drive This is actually huge.
Starting point is 02:05:35 And extremes come alive They fill her soul She's in control Okay. And I'm Angelica Houston. And Joel's Angelica. You're Jennifer Hudson. This is actually a huge moment that Joel flipped it on us.
Starting point is 02:05:49 I mean, I'm interested in exploring. I think it calls for another performance. There we go. All right, number 106. 80s Mercedes, Maren Morris. Congrats, Maren. You've been on the list a second time. 80s Mercedes.
Starting point is 02:06:01 We've spoken at length about it. A perfect song. A perfect song. 105. Great episode, by A perfect song. 105. Great episode, by the way. Thank you. Sometimes I don't like it when you have people on that I'm not friends with personally. But this was a great episode.
Starting point is 02:06:12 And who knows, you might be friends with Maren personally sometime soon. Wow. 105. What dreams are made of, Trisha Paytas. Let's move on. 104. Natalie's rap, Natalie Portman. Huge moment in culture.
Starting point is 02:06:26 Huge moment in culture. Major moment in comedy and music culture. I mean, early Lonely Island. Early digital short culture. Early starlet being able to laugh at herself. Yes. 100%. It was pixie cut culture.
Starting point is 02:06:39 It was V for Vendetta culture. It was V for Vendetta press tour culture. I never said I was a role model. Such a tour culture. I never said I was a role model. Such a good line. I never said I was a role model. All the kids looking up to me can suck my dick. It's Portman, motherfucker. Drink till I'm sick.
Starting point is 02:06:54 Oh my God. It's such a brilliant line, though. Like the Lonely Island songwriting was so good. Like slit your throat and pump nitrous down the hole. Watch you laugh and cry while I laugh you die and all my dudes you know I'm talking to you we love you Natalie I wanna fuck you too
Starting point is 02:07:13 pee is for Portman pee is for pussy I'll kill your fucking dog for fun so don't push me wow really good 103 private girl Natalie Portman as Celeste in Vox Lux really it gets lost how good the music is deeply underrated movie to me personally 103. Private girl, Natalie Portman as Celeste in Vox Lux. Really, it gets lost how good the music is.
Starting point is 02:07:28 Deeply underrated movie to me personally, I find. It's upsetting though. It starts upsetting, but I think it gets less upsetting. I mean, it really starts the marquee upsetting scene happens up top. And then from there, it's a fun romp. It really is a fun romp after that.
Starting point is 02:07:44 The trauma lingers. As trauma does, you know? My biggest problem with the movie is that the end concert is so not, it should be full Gaga, and they, it's not.
Starting point is 02:07:54 It's bad. They err on the, He does not respect pop music. No. But the writing of the pop, the actual music, is good pop music. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:08:02 Yes. Yeah. What other movie is like that? Oh, Sarsborne. Yeah. They were Yeah. What other movie is like that? Oh, Sarsborne. Yeah. We, they were compared to each other often,
Starting point is 02:08:08 but I do think. Yeah. I would, I've listened to the Vox Lux soundtrack more than I've listened to a Sarsborne. Really? Oh, I can't say that's true. Wow.
Starting point is 02:08:17 Yeah. I've listened to the Josie and the Pussycat soundtrack more than any of those. Well, I could tell from what's coming up on the list. Yes. Sure. Sure. Number 102,
Starting point is 02:08:24 Sleigh Ride, Clay Aiken. What a great singer. An amazing singer and a perfect Christmas voice. Are you guys watching American Idol this season? No, I heard it's good, though. It's really good this season. Really? I would say it's the best it's been since a while.
