Starting point is 00:00:00 This fall on Bravo. It's time to turn up. Think you've seen it all? I don't think you've been a good friend to me lately. We're friends like that, who needs enemies? You ain't seen nothing yet. Cheers to being Germanic. With the Real Housewives of Potomac.
Starting point is 00:00:11 Oh my gosh, can I take this in? It's gonna be amazing. New York City. Everyone is a gossip. No one gets a happier life. Salt Lake City. We don't wear costumes, we wear fashion. And below deck sailing out.
Starting point is 00:00:21 You broke the rules and now you're here getting upset. Watch all new seasons on Bravo or stream it on City TV+. Let's have a real good time. I'm Sheryl Swoops. And I'm Tarika Foster-Brasby. And on our new podcast, we're talking about the real obstacles women face day to day. Because no matter who you are, there are levels to what we experience as women. And T and I have no problem going there.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Listen to Levels to This with Cheryl Swoops and Tarika Foster-Brasby, an iHeart Women's Sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment. You can find us on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Hey, I'm Jay Shetty and I'm the host of On Purpose. My latest episode is with Jelly Roll. This episode is one of the most honest and raw interviews I've ever had. We go deep into Jelly Roll's life story from being in and out of prison from the age of 13 to being one of today's biggest artists. I was a desperate delusional dreamer. Be a delusional dreamer. Just don't be a desperate delusional dreamer.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Trust me, you won't want to miss this one. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, five-year-old Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez was found off the coast of Florida. And the question was, should the boy go back to his father in Cuba? Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home, and he wanted to take his son with him. Or stay with his relatives in Miami?
Starting point is 00:01:55 Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Look, Matt. Where? Oh, I see. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Bowen, look over there. Wow, is that culture? Yes. Oh, my goodness. Wow. Las Culturistas. Ding dong, Las Culturistas calling. Joining us in process is Joel Kimbooster.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Hello. Yes, he's back. This is the final day of our 300th episode spectacular. We're kind of under the clock here, but I think if I can leave and you guys can finish out the list if you need to. I think we can do this in an hour. Well, unless Joel has places to be.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I have to leave by 4.30. Okay, so we're're gonna finish out the hour So all together But I don't want See Okay But I don't want it to feel rushed See
Starting point is 00:02:49 If something If something needs to be discussed We'll discuss it Yeah And remember Remember what Doug said at the top of the episode He said
Starting point is 00:02:55 The flow can dictate the feel And we've really been feeling that We've been flowing and feeling So with So with that spirit Number 99 Someone to call my lover Hex Hector McQuailail, Radio Mix, Janet Jackson.
Starting point is 00:03:08 An amazing song. An amazing remix to an amazing song. The Bridge. My, my, looking for a guy, guy. Yeah, let's move on. Get someone to call my lover, yeah, baby, come on. I'm a Janet fan. Janet fan?
Starting point is 00:03:22 Number 98. Heartbreak Hotel, Hex Hector, Radio Mix, Whitney Houston, Faith Evans, and Kelly Price. me from john the fan jennet fan number 98 heartbreak hotel hex hector radio mix winnie houston faith evans and kelly price this is the hot break hotel i mean yeah talk about setting atmosphere i love to know where i am in a song she's introduced and she's kind of like is it how many whitney how many times has whitney been on the list so far? Well, number 297 was I Will Always Love You. Okay. So all of these songs are better than that. Better than that.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Better than that. That's huge. She... No, I don't need to know anything else. She's been on the list. She's been on the list. It's just maybe it wasn't as... Maybe I Will Always Love You didn't have the global cultural impact of, say, Perfect by
Starting point is 00:04:03 Hoku Christian Ho. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that, say, Perfect by Hoku Christian Ho. I think that, like... Perfect Day. Why would you ever want to check into a Heartbreak Hotel? That's a big question I have with this song. You're not checking in. You have to go. It's when, like... Oh, it's like being quarantined for COVID.
Starting point is 00:04:18 It's when a pipe bursts in your apartment and you have to live somewhere else. I don't think any of these ladies had a choice about where they checked in. I think they could afford a room at the Heartbreak Hotel, and that's just where they were staying for maybe, I don't think any of these ladies had a choice about where they checked in. I think they could afford a room at the Heartbreak Hotel and that's just where they were staying for maybe, I don't know, a few days, hopefully not longer than a week. Girl, they're flying into Korea and when it's peak COVID
Starting point is 00:04:35 and you have to stay in this hotel. Two days. They put tape on the doors. They put tape on the doors. Don't even give you a key card to get in and out of the building. Our choir teacher taped the doors when we would travel out of school. Yeah, that was a popular thing that teachers would do to keep kids locked up. Chased.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Keep kids chased. It's so funny that taping the doors. It's so funny. So if the tape was broken, you'd know the kid was a whore. You couldn't just put the tape back on the... But you can't... There's no... You can't...
Starting point is 00:05:02 Oh, right, right, right. There is no way to do that, is there? I figured it out. You could sneak out of the room, press, there's no, like, you can't, like... Oh, right, right, right. There is no way to do that, is there? I figured it out. You could sneak out of the room, press the tape back on, but you would not be able to go back into the room until after everyone had woken up and the tape had been taken off.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Worth it. I think what you gotta do is, like, if you open the door and the tape breaks, just, like, take the piece, take, take... So now that the tape is in two, you take off one of them and just put the side that's less broken over it. I don't even think the tape would break. I think there's a way to open the door without the tape is in two, you take off one of them and just put the side that's less broken. I don't even think the tape would break.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I think there's a way to open the door without the tape breaking. I get what you're saying, though. There's no way to close the door again. And press the tape. Yeah. It would depend on what the tape was made out of. I'm thinking masking tape. Yeah, I guess we're thinking about different kinds of tape. But now, literally, imagine having Uber in high school.
Starting point is 00:05:45 It's over forget it I'm not staying there number 97 I turn to you Melanie C thank you for bringing up this song because people don't talk about Melanie C's bop I turn to you enough
Starting point is 00:05:58 like a flower leading toward the sun I didn't know that was Melanie C Spice Girls zone own Melanie C. Wow. Hold up in a gay club today. Absolutely. Because you're the only one. I put this in for you.
Starting point is 00:06:13 You did? And because I wanted a run of Hex Hector. That's dishonest. I knew it. Number 96. Nobody's supposed to be here. Hex Hector dance mix. Deborah Cox.
Starting point is 00:06:21 This is the definitive. This is the Hex Hector. Yes. Dance mix. I mean, what Thunderpuss is to... Whitney. This is the Hex Hector dance mix. I mean, what Thunderpuss is to Whitney. It's not right, but it's okay. Hex Hector is to
Starting point is 00:06:31 Nobody's Supposed to Be Here. It made it the song that we know and love. Exactly. And Deborah Cox was truly that singer. No, nobody. No, no, no, no, no. Oh! Just imagine being in the booth and being like,
Starting point is 00:06:47 I think I have an idea what I wanna do. Oh! I think this would work. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Ah! That's the most insane song. Number 95, Bugaboo, Destiny's Child. Thank you, Kandi Burris, for writing this one.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Ooh, huge. Major. Major. Paid for, Destiny's Child. Thank you, Candy Burris, for writing this one. Ooh, huge. Major. Paid for the old lady gang. A hundred percent. The house, this is the... This is her mother's house? No, the old lady gang is the restaurant in Atlanta. Oh, I see, I see.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Or a series of restaurants, and it was built by Bugaboo and no scrubs money. Yeah, probably. Yeah, absolutely. Wow, so much money. So much money. I mean, look. She is probably one of the most honestly rich housewives. Not inherited.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Not inherited. And also not like a house of cards about to tumble over when, you know, the feds come knocking. And also, if she gets ever fired or decides to leave housewives, the woman is absolutely fine. Something happened to me recently where I felt really bad for Jen Shah shaw recently i was like damn she might just lose everything there is something about the way she's carrying on on social media where it's like do you i don't know if she understands it's like how could she not but also how could she behave like this yeah uh-huh um anyway number four not speaking of all jen Jen Shaw's bullshit, number 94 is damaged by Danity Kane.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Do, do you got a first aid kit handy? I thought this was pussycat dolls until just this moment. That's okay. You know, that's Danity Kane erasure. Yeah. And P Diddy would be so disappointed. Do you remember when we were at Barracuda in Nework and those girls were trying to interrupt the drag show and i said those bitches look like they were in danny v kane and they were in fact in danny v kane it was aubrey and uh what's the face it was aubrey
Starting point is 00:08:36 i looked at the girls and i said they look like a member of these danny v kane bitches and it was aubrey o'day and then i don't actually know if the other one was in danny v kane but she looked like she could have been well there's a specific aesthetic that comes to mind when you say that bitch looks like she's a member of Danity Kane which is like a little too much eye makeup sort of a road hard put away wet
Starting point is 00:08:55 the highlights the very specific blonde or perchance even like a little bit of low light happening like that sort of thing that girls were really into where it was really dark underneath. You remember when girls would just like dye the bottom of their hair like back behind their neck? And like that's giving Danity Kane. And also obviously like a tube top at a gay bar.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Man. I can't tell if I missed that or if I. Well, it's going to come back. It's going to come back. Yeah. Oh, no, it's back. 90s fashion is back. And so 2000s fashion is registered on the corner.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And speaking of the year 2010, number 93 is Lose My Breath, Destiny's Child. The drums at the beginning of the song were a moment in culture history. Absolutely. In the top 200. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:09:39 It was giving marching band, but make it pop. Weren't you so happy, like this was after Beyonce's Dangerous Lean Love but she'd gone back to Destiny's Child I was like
Starting point is 00:09:50 thrilled my god and I bet they were thrilled Destiny Fulfilled is actually my favorite Destiny's Child album yeah same love girl
Starting point is 00:09:58 love if love she really knew that that was it when she named that when they named that Destiny Fulfilled and she said we're done how do we make sure we close the loop the loop yeah Love, She really knew that that was it when she named that album. When they named that album. Yeah, Destiny Fulfilled.
Starting point is 00:10:05 And she said, we're done. How do we make sure we close the loop? The loop, yeah. And then there was their cover of that BG song, Emotion.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Emotions? That was not on Destiny Fulfilled, but that's one of my favorite songs of theirs. I think it might be like a bonus track. I might be wrong.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Hmm. Hmm. That song is not on Destiny Fulfilled. Let's get to the is not on destiny fulfilled let's get to 92 you need to talk about this super bass nikki minaj it's the genesis it is the genesis of youtube it's the genesis it was not what made us meet and become friends but it is what made us see each other because at that because before then it was oh there's matt rogers oh i heard i heard you're really funny i like good luck on your audition when bowen yang bullied me for my danger box
Starting point is 00:10:52 audition happened it did it did vividly i remember that we've been through this um but i think we were friends i but then when super bass popped off that's when everyone started telling us that we had to start performing at all the parties together like oh Matt and Velma put them together and put on a song they both know and we can just watch them go it was the beginning of like us being a show for our straight friends
Starting point is 00:11:16 that was our nowadays if we're Velma and Roxy making a thou a week at least oh yeah number 91 million dollar bill Whitney Houston so you're saying
Starting point is 00:11:29 this is better than I will always love you as well absolutely I mean we don't this was not up to us we didn't this was
Starting point is 00:11:35 the blue ribbon panel it was God created it was we're merely conduits I don't even know this song you think you feel like a million dollar bill. Say it.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Oh, oh. Say it. Oh, oh. Left, right, up, down. Just spin around and round. Say it. Oh, oh. Say it.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Oh, oh. Come on. I do. It's in my muscle memory. I didn't even know I knew it. What I also love about this song is a random errant. Oh, oh. this song is in like a random errant like just someone coming in and just i just picture her coming into room and just going like everyone being like it's the same thing on show me love
Starting point is 00:12:14 by robin s yeah it's so good when someone just sings a vowel we need that more now more than ever yeah the girls are are too scared to vocalize yeah they are totally agree they want to whisper someone just sings a vowel. We need that more. Now more than ever. Yeah. The girls are too scared to vocalize right now. Yeah, they are. I totally agree. They want to whisper. I totally agree.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Although, you know who I respect lately? Billie Eilish is exploring her belt. Yes. She really is. And it should be her because she's the one who's getting all these girls to fucking mumble. Yep.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Yeah. They're following her lead. Yes, exactly. Yeah, they truly are. Also, Olivia Rodrigo opens up. Yeah. They're following her lead. Yes, exactly. Yeah, they truly are. Also, Olivia Rodrigo opens up. Yes. I just... Maybe this is why people have an appetite for American Idol again.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Maybe this is a stretch. But you want to see someone with, like, vocal power. Just, like, fucking sing. There's nothing I miss more than late 90s ballads being popular. There's nothing I miss more than, heart will go on being number one. Well then, babe, you need to be watching American Idol. I know. That's where those songs live on.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Trust me. When you come over tonight, I'll show you some highlights. Yeah, just show me some highlights. Alright, so number 90. Levitating No Da Baby. Who needs it? It's the laziest rap in history. Very bad.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Phone it in. I just feel like it's... It's a perfect pop song that doesn't need anything additional. No. It is like... It's so good. What is that? Why does that happen?
Starting point is 00:13:36 Why do people feel the need to put features on sometimes? Unless it's another female, I really am not that interested in them. It's Mariah invented it. That's true. Get a rapper on. I mean, the Heartbreaker verse is amazing. Fantasy with older events. It's a genre crossover now, too.
Starting point is 00:13:53 That's the thing. It does open up your audience. The streams go up, mama. And then you get played on different forms of radio as well. You know who could use a feature? Is 88. Okay, well, 89. First we're doing 89.
Starting point is 00:14:10 And then we'll get to 88. And then you are right. Number 89, All For You, Janet Jackson. My favorite. A song that we were singing in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade going, got a nice package, all right, guess I'm going to have to write it tonight. Did we know what we were singing?
Starting point is 00:14:25 I think we did. And also, yeah, it is insane. I don't think we spiritually knew how to ride the package, but we knew what we were saying.
Starting point is 00:14:34 I didn't know it meant fucking riding on a dick. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Janet, sort of, when she turned that sexual corner, never turned back,
Starting point is 00:14:42 no matter, even if the song sounded like it shouldn't be like that. Yeah. Did you watch that New York Times documentary? Mm-hmm. Like, the corner was turned on, like, on rhythm. Like, she turned the corner early on.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Yeah. Not even rhythm nation. Control. Control. Yeah, control nasty. Yeah. Janet, true. That's culture.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Hans got us to talk about Michael Jackson earlier that we've deliberately avoided talking about it, but we've always talked about Janet. Yeah, we sure did. Okay, 88. Now, Joel Kim is saying that this needs a rap feature. Chic c'est la vie by Countess Luann. Do you have a rapper in mind?
Starting point is 00:15:23 Da Brat. Da Brat. Bring Da Brat back. I think Da Brat is attainable. I think Da Brat is a sticky option. Yeah. Would it be weird if... I mean, no.
Starting point is 00:15:35 It wouldn't be weird to bring this song back because it is like 10 years old. There is another life cycle to put it through. I think that this song could be huge again because confident and cool, you know you hold the key that's always going to be relevant that idea absolutely chic c'est la vie c'est bon c'est bon also iconically kelly ben simone and jill in the video for this not knowing what the fuck to do with their hands or face they never do like there's a there's a there's a moment in the video where where lou is like singing and looking at
Starting point is 00:16:09 kelly and jill and jill is just looking back at lou like like i'm here and i'm listening so funny okay number 87 photograph. Okay, my senior song. This came out in 2006. Look at this photograph! We really wanted it. The cool kids at my high school wanted it to be Forever Young off of the OC soundtrack. Wait, this was your graduation song? Yeah, this was my graduation song. We wanted it to be Forever Young.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Forever Young's dark. But we were outvoted. Photograph. Photograph. And it's so on the nose. Yeah. It is like, it's like vitamin C graduation level on the nose.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Right. That is on the list. That is on the list too. I figured. I will say that I do like how it ends with, Every time I do it makes me. Laugh. And then he just,
Starting point is 00:17:01 the song ends on, Makes me. I haven't heard this in a while. You know, talk about this. There aren't that many men on this list. No. And I will, and then he just the song ends makes me I haven't heard this in a while you know talk about this there aren't that many men on this list no
Starting point is 00:17:08 and I will can we say that you put this song on the list yeah well it wasn't up to me it was God God God created
Starting point is 00:17:16 God created no further questions no um I stand by it 87 86 with you
Starting point is 00:17:26 Waxahachie a cover of Jessica Simpson's song it's a really good cover how do you think Jessica will feel about that I don't think she's ever gonna know
Starting point is 00:17:32 you don't think she listens I don't think she's I think she took a peek at how that artist's name is spelled
Starting point is 00:17:39 and said not my business not my business this is not your fight this is not for me this is not your fight. This is not for me. This is not your fight, Jessica. You're tapping out of this one. Keep selling the shoes, girl.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Mama, you got a billion dollar hair extension empire. You do not know how to pronounce this name. Let him take the cover. Yeah. Let him enjoy it. Yeah. Number 85. This is this artist's like,
Starting point is 00:18:01 this artist has been all over this list. Has been all over this list. Glamorous. Fergie. Fergie. Fergie. Huge. Who just sampled this song, too? Jack Harlow.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Yes. Yes. And it's really good. It's really good. Have you heard it? No. Oh, my God. And it's really clever.
Starting point is 00:18:14 He's like, flying in the G, I got it out, some of the A, like getting up with the A, and like, it's clever. It's not just like, oh, let me just throw on a Fergie song he just like he works around it yeah he used it like the art that it is used it to increase his art
Starting point is 00:18:33 and that is a ploy for the gays and the girls he's like they fucking love this shit he can have us I think he can have us well I think him working with Lil Nas
Starting point is 00:18:41 he does have us he has us he's had us he's had us you You're so right. And I'm totally fine with it. He seems lovely. Yeah. I think he's a nice boy. Good, nice boy. We need that. Has he been to SNL? Have you met him?
Starting point is 00:18:53 Yeah, when Maya hosted. He was our guest. Yeah, last time. Number 84. Nothing in this world. Paris Hilton. We got to sing this song with Paris. Oh, right right for Vulture it was we're with Vulture
Starting point is 00:19:06 we're at Tribeca when Paris had her first documentary out the American Meme American Meme and she came in and we got to sing
Starting point is 00:19:16 Nothing in this World with her and I'm sure she thought that we were going to mention Stars are Blind which did not make the list but we are Nothing in this World
Starting point is 00:19:24 stands though I do love Stars are Blind sure Stars are Blind, which did not make the list, but we are nothing in this world stands. Though I do love Stars Are Blind. Sure. Stars Are Blind is like a little too like sleepy or like... Nothing in this world, it's like a power ballad. Not a power ballad necessarily, but like you feel like... It lifts off. It lifts off.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Also, I love that like the bridge, like there's any other singer, like it would be like an opt-up. Do this thing tonight. And then she's like, do this thing tonight. So good. Good for her. Did Lana before Lana.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Say that. Number 83. Show me love, Robin. Show me love. Show me life. Were you guys into Robin from the very beginning? Yes. From this song.
Starting point is 00:20:12 And I will say we went to Robin night at the Echoplex. Yeah. Last week, a week ago tonight. Yeah. My boyfriend did not know this song. Well, he's a little younger. He is a little younger. And that is his defense,
Starting point is 00:20:25 but I still say I was young, you were young. Yeah, yeah. I think you're only three years older than my boyfriend, maybe? Yeah, sure, sure. So why are you forming cognitive memories, and he's not? He's 28? 28. Okay, yeah, so this song...
Starting point is 00:20:40 We were five when this came out. Really? Like, remember. Yes, we were really young. So he would be one. Yeah. This song is... I guess that's unfair of me.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I guess that's unfair. Robin is essentially like Paula Abdul to him. But this song is like... There's something... I'm sure there are people in Sweden who predate her. But this song feels like quintessential Swedish pop. Yeah. And everything else comes from that. Max Martin comes from that.
Starting point is 00:21:07 You know that Hit Me Baby One More Time was originally supposed to be a Robin song, and she turned it down. And then it went to TLC, and they turned it down too. Huge. Yeah, that song got passed around. But okay, in my defense though, people know the song Imagine.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I know the song Imagine by John Lennon. I wasn't alive when that song came out, and yet I remember it. So why doesn't he know Show Me Love by Robin? Comparing the cultural impact is probably where we're going to run into trouble there. I think Show Me Love by Robin is as big a song as Imagine by John Lennon. I remember being a little fag five-year-old and having like, that's insane. It's just simply, it's simply not true.
Starting point is 00:21:46 I think that Imagine didn't do what it set out to do. Right. Imagine was like, we're going to change the world with the song. Did nothing. Show Me Love. Changed the world. Accomplished the goal.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Something. Show Me Love did, I would say, have a bigger impact on pop music than Imagine did. I'm serious. Because the Show Me Love into like the Max Martin, into the rest of pop music than the Max Martin did. I'm serious. Because the Show Me Love into the Max Martin into the rest of pop, that's huge.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Imagine it's just like a song that any of the Beatles could have sung, whether together or separate. Yoko was on it. Who cares? Yoko was on it. It's, I completely stand by that. Yep. Number 82. Show Me Love, Robin S. it's I completely stand by that number 82 show me love Robin S
Starting point is 00:22:26 isn't it insane that there's two show me loves with Robins like thank god Robin S it's a chicken of the egg heart breaks promises
Starting point is 00:22:36 I've had more than my share I'm also gonna say it I stand by this song being 82 and the other Robin song being 83 I think this is the superior robin show me love sure um which means that all the songs from now on are better
Starting point is 00:22:52 than imagine yeah yes which didn't make the list i did not make no so it brings us to 81 say lovey bewitched some people say i look like me dad. That's what she says, right? I don't remember that. You know, some people say I look like me dad. You guys, no. Your face was very funny when you said it. You guys are laughing at me like I'm crazy. Pull it up now. Unless you can prove it.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Some people say I look like me dad. This was like height radio Disney played between shows oh yeah radio Disney like huge major speaking of
Starting point is 00:23:35 cartoonish number 80 that don't impress me much Shania Twain who could forget the iconic image of her in the desert hitchhiking
Starting point is 00:23:43 in that glamorous like I guess like three piecepiece cougar material. Leopard. Leopard material. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And okay, so you got a car. The one thing that bothers me about this song is the heightening isn't right. No.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah. She starts with Brad Pitt? Brad Pitt is second. Okay. So she says, okay, so... So you're a rocket scientist. No, what is it? I think it's rocket scientist, Brad Pitt, so you got a car.
Starting point is 00:24:11 It's like, if I'm a rocket scientist, that's super impressive. Yeah. I will even give Brad Pitt being a heightened on rocket scientist. I think because Brad Pitt, like, especially at the time, very special guy. There's many different rocket scientists. There's only one Brad Pitt. So that's a heightened. Can we talk to though,
Starting point is 00:24:27 really quickly, a roll of the dice culturally to reference an actor and then to really have him be relevant still today. Totally. Kind of crazy. So right. Like it could have been any, but she could have said that she could have said, so you're Timothy Oliphant.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Right. Okay. So you're Stephen Dorff. that don't impress me much that don't impress me much in fact i would say brad pitt sort of has the last laugh here yep yeah yeah he's like yeah you thought i was just a piece of meat for your song i'm an oscar i'm an oscar winner. And then at the very end, the last chorus, you're Tarzan, Captain Kirk maybe, John Wayne. Whatever. Nuh-uh. That don't impress me much.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Whatever. She loses the whole thread. You're so right about the heightening. It's a de-heighten, but also that don't impress me much is just such a cultural lexicon moment that it is number 80 and a better song than I Will Always Love You. Sorry, did you say it's car, rocket scientist,
Starting point is 00:25:28 Brad Pitt? Because that's what makes sense to me. So you're a rocket scientist. Okay. So you're Brad Pitt. Okay. So you got a car. I think that's the way it goes. Can we double check? Yeah, no, I checked. It's rocket scientist, Brad Pitt, car. Yeah, and that to me is divine. Car should not be last.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Yes, it should be car, Rocket Scientist, Brad Pitt. And that also, then you can save your fun cultural reference for the end of the song. Totally. Oh, yeah. That can be lateral. That certainly can be lateral. And she's earned it by the end. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:56 To do Captain Kirk, Tarzan, whatever. What a bad writer. This fall on Bravo. It's time to turn up. Think you've seen it all? We'll be right back. Everyone is a gossip. Starting point is 00:27:56 Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzales wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Starting point is 00:31:23 when you heard the lyrics? Put your hands on me John F Kennedy do you remember where you were I was with because she played this song at the Mugler fashion show where she walked this is before the album came out before anyone heard this track and then she like threw in that little lyric and then me and Colin Cordopassi were together. We were like, oh my god, this fucking girl is so genius. That's what I say to Lady Gaga. This fucking girl. That's like iconically what Gwen's body said to Celine Dion. This girl is crazy.

I loved that era. Pound the Alarm. Pound the Alarm. This is representative, this song. Nicki, let's go to the beach, each.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Let's go get away. Nicki Minaj was right. Let's go to the beach. And for giving us that, Starships makes the list. Yes. Number 70. Your love is my drug.
Starting point is 00:33:43 Kesha. People talk about TikTok but this is the song this is the song this is the song on a songwriting level like she's mapping it so perfectly
Starting point is 00:33:50 on a like drug use like it's it's perfect and also the bridge I don't care what people say the rush is worth the price I pay
Starting point is 00:34:02 I get so high it's really good yeah remember when Papa Roulette covered it and it was like a great cover yeah it was were you at that show worth the price I pay. I get so high. It's really good. Yeah. Remember when Popper Lit covered it? And it was like a great cover. It was.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Were you at that show? Mm-hmm. We did a live show and Popper Lit covered it and I think we kind of killed it. It's like an acapella cover, right? No, no, no. Well, no, we had the band.
Starting point is 00:34:16 We had the band. At Union Hall. At Union Hall? Yeah. Oh, that was fun. Okay, number 69. Who do you think you are, Spice Girls?
Starting point is 00:34:24 Ty Sunderland favorite. For good reason. It really is. When you are on Molly at a club, sorry, it really, really, really hits. Nothing better. Nothing better. Kind of rain on me beginning.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Something to think about, though. 68. My neck, my my back lick it Kia I mean look at this point scandalous it's very scandalous I mean we can all agree and whenever you sort of bring up my neck my back it's sort of a thing of like yes we all now
Starting point is 00:34:55 are like familiar enough with the joke but the fact is like if you listen to the song it's beautiful beautiful song so beautiful and you don't and honestly you don't have a WAP without this coming first. Nope. No.
Starting point is 00:35:08 But you know what else? I Want to Lick Lick Lick You From Your Head to Your Toes was also this era. Yeah. It was filthy. It was a filthy era. It was a filthy era. I mean, I remember listening to I Want to Lick Lick You From Your Head to Your Toes and really wanting to get off book on the verses.
Starting point is 00:35:25 We can do it in the Georgia Dome. Huge. I will say, I can't believe anyone was shocked by WAP when we had this song. Were people shocked? I guess. Yeah, people were scandalized by WAP. What's his face? Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Starting point is 00:35:42 What's his face? Madison Cawthorn with his best friend with his best boyfriend's hand on his penis. All enraged to WAP. More like, yeah, you're gay. Number 67. Every Time We Touch by Cascada. Couldn't remember the words. Every time we touch, I get this feeling. What was that? Couldn't remember the words. Every time we touch, I get this feeling.
Starting point is 00:36:07 What was that? Couldn't remember the words. Couldn't remember the words. There's something that happens when Joel, you know, starts to like trip on a word and he kind of loses control for a second and then all he can do is just smile through it. He can just like, he's like delighted.
Starting point is 00:36:21 It just happens to him. I want to lick you. Because the lick you, it'sl-l-lick you It's hard It's hard And he hasn't He hasn't warmed up His consonants yet
Starting point is 00:36:30 No No no no As Elizabeth Suedos My theater teacher used to say Bite those consonants kids Oh god Bite them R.I.P.
Starting point is 00:36:38 R.I.P. Truly Speaking of Number 66 Number 66 Rumors Lindsay Lohan Actually one of the best songs ever speaking up number 66 number 66 rumors Lindsay Lohan actually one of the best songs ever
Starting point is 00:36:49 stand by this okay sure yes no one's debating you have a really nasty energy there's no discussion I'm thinking about it
Starting point is 00:36:58 and there's no discussion remember the dance break in the video yeah on the roof yep she goes she looked nervous the whole time. Saturday,
Starting point is 00:37:08 stepping into the club. Wanted to turn it up. Well, this was when she was publicly embracing being a fucking mess. Yeah. Yeah, she was like, I want to say respectfully,
Starting point is 00:37:19 I would love it if you would take the cameras off of me. I relate to this song. Yeah. I'm just tired of rumors starting. Tired of rumors starting. Sick of being followed. There's a leak in Lost Cult. I relate to this song. Yeah. I'm just tired of rumors starting. Tired of rumors starting. I'm sick of being followed.
Starting point is 00:37:26 There's a leak in Lost Couch. I think it's Doug. Doug is the leak. Is he reading a book? Oh my God. Fuck. Not engineering. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:37:35 Number 65. Get out of my way, Kylie Minogue. Absolutely. I think the best Kylie song. Sure. Yeah, absolutely. It makes me feel powerful.
Starting point is 00:37:45 We'll sing to it. Oh, yeah. Now I've got a taste. I want to explore. Ain't going to waste. No, not anymore. The video is incredible. Amazing video.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Ain't going away. So not anymore. And I'm about to let you see. This is what will happen if you ain't giving your girl what she needs. It's a threat. It's a threat. I'm about to let you see. It's a threat.
Starting point is 00:38:12 It's about to be a... No, we're not going to say it. That's going to come up later. Number 64. Treat Me Like a Slut, Kim Petras. This is probably the newest song on the list. Yeah. But the second we heard it, we knew that it was in the great global song book
Starting point is 00:38:26 treat me like a slut I'm a dirty bitch I love to fuck it's so perfect another like again would we have the song if not for Kia exactly treat me like a slut
Starting point is 00:38:41 I'm a dirty bitch I love to fuck and from very adult To sort of childlike Ruminations Adult contemporary Yes Number 63 Big girls don't cry
Starting point is 00:38:53 Fergie My personal favorite Fergie Really? Really I know Talk about this song And speaking of personal It's actually called
Starting point is 00:38:59 Big girls don't cry And in parenthesis Personal Oh my god Really? What does this song mean to you it means a lot it means i remember uh the video very well milo yeah in the videos like really establishing himself pre this is us and post heroes and post heroes transition roles yeah yeah big transition for
Starting point is 00:39:20 him into music video artist yep um and for, it just reminds me that I shouldn't cry. Don't cry. Yeah. And what I think of when I think of this song is a child missing their blanket. Whenever I think of that, I think, well, thank you for that evocative image because now I understand what you're going through.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Because I get a child missing their blanket. I really get that. I didn't have one. You didn't have a blanket no no you didn't have any toys i just it just it's that that pacifier pacifier that just line that line never worked on me and i'm sorry to both of you i that never resonated and i have issue with it being that being up this high on the list let's move on oh my god 62. 62. Number 62. When Jesus Say Yes, Michelle Williams featuring Beyonce and Kelly Rowland. And of course, the end of that sentence is, when Jesus say yes, nobody can say no.
Starting point is 00:40:14 She's right. And again, sort of like, imagine being asked to be in the song. How could you say no? Because the title in itself is a threat. Say yes. When Jesus say yes, nobody can say no. And by the way, Jesus did say yes. I talked to him.
Starting point is 00:40:28 So Beyonce, Kelly. You're going to be in town, right? Yeah. How do you know when Jesus say yes? I think, well, Jesus said yes to this whole list. So I think you just know. Michelle, Beyonce, Kelly. No, that is not it.
Starting point is 00:40:42 You think I'm the Kelly? I think I'm the Michelle. No. That is so stupid. You think I'm the Kelly? I think I'm the Michelle. No. That is so stupid. I'm the Michelle. And it's willfully, it's willful. I'm the Michelle. I think we're all Kelly.
Starting point is 00:40:54 The most religious. Yeah, exactly. I actually, I embrace my role as Kelly Rowlands. I really do. She's cool as shit. She's cool as shit. She's cool as shit. She's funny. She's real.
Starting point is 00:41:06 I'm Beyonce and I'm like just a little, I'm a little dead inside and I just don't, I can't really do interviews anymore because I'm just tired. That's how I'm Beyonce. And you're the richest
Starting point is 00:41:20 and most famous. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But tired. But tired. It's serving tired artists tired it's serving tired artists it's serving like oh oh yeah
Starting point is 00:41:30 number 61 Commander Kelly Rowland see this is it I'm saying Kelly Rowland has bops like lay it on me motivation motivation is so good
Starting point is 00:41:39 like so good and also not for nothing but Kelly Rowland is cool as fuck you want to be Kelly Rowland because she got to say faggot in Freddy vs. Jason she got to say faggot in Freddy vs. Jason. She got to say faggot in Freddy vs. Jason. She got to text on Microsoft Excel on a phone in the, what is it, Dilemma.
Starting point is 00:41:52 Yeah, she can host any X Factor she wants. She's such a good judge on those shows. Yeah, she's fabulous. She did the British version one time and it was like, she really was good. Number 60, speaking of British X Factor contestants. Sweet Melody, Little Mix. was like she she like really was good number 60 speaking of british x-factor contestants sweet melody little mix in fact kelly roland what she which meant her a little bit she did not to lisa mentor little mix and kelly roland had the female artist that year and i remember kelly roland being super hard on little mix because she was like i think you guys are really good and can be really good and your harmonies aren't right and you guys aren't necessarily gelling yet but i i'm
Starting point is 00:42:24 only going to be hard because you know that i know what it's like to be in the best girl group. And I think that you guys could get up there. And then Little Mix was. Wow. Didn't quite get up there. Well, internationally, you could argue that they were pretty huge. But in America, it never did happen. No.
Starting point is 00:42:39 It's sort of like foreskin. Say that. Sort of. I don't know why. Number 59. What is it? Are you still Beyonce and tired right now? Yes.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Number 59. Big mama thing. Lil' Kim. We got it going on. What? I'm really surprised to not have you put how many licks on this. How many? I'm more of a... How many licks was it on this album?
Starting point is 00:43:07 Was it? I think that was on Notorious. K.I.M. or whatever. There's so much Kim. This is my personal favorite Kim song. Okay, perfect. That's all. Mine is how many licks, but I respect.
Starting point is 00:43:21 I know that God put this on the list. Remember after Pink Friday came out out she came out with Black Friday just basically it was a diss track on Nicki Minaj I think that the Lil Kim Nicki Minaj fight broke Nicki Minaj I think that's why something about that going down makes her unable
Starting point is 00:43:36 to like actually support she thinks she is though she thinks she's being supportive of the new girls yeah and also I'm not even I don't even know specifics and can't really gauge like no but I'm sure
Starting point is 00:43:47 it affected her yeah I think it did because I'm sure I'm sure Kim was affected by there's like there's a Ryan Murphy feud in that
Starting point is 00:43:56 oh I actually would love to see that maybe not maybe not maybe someone else should write it a different show writer yeah show runner
Starting point is 00:44:03 Shonda no no it should be it should be Ryan Shonda should be past feud someone else should write it. A different show writer. Yeah, show runner. Shonda. No, no, it should be Ryan. Shonda should be past Feud, and she should do it. Yes. 58. Don't cry for me, Argentina. Various Evitas.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Amazing. Andrew Lloyd Webber created it. Nicole Scherzinger. Nicole Scherzinger did fabulous. Madonna is a movie killer. What did Patti LuPone say? Movie killer. Movie killer. Number 57. Bossy a movie killer. What did Patti LuPone say? Movie killer. Movie killer. Number 57.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Bossy Khalees. I'm bossy. I'm the one y'all love to hate. Really a lesson being taught to kids everywhere in the beginning of that song. You don't have to like me. But you will respect me. You know why? Because I'm a boss!
Starting point is 00:44:45 And then the dance. The dance from the video. Just like limp wrist hanging. Khalees for president. True. True though. Number 56. Can't take my eyes off of you. Denise Richards in Drop Dead Gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Holds up much better than I thought it would. We watched it in the last year or so. I also recently, yeah, we watched it. Yeah, we watched it. And, you know, there are some parts of it. I was horrified by parts, but I was horrified by less parts than I thought. Well, Matt Malloy, who plays the judge who's like a pedophile, is on I Love That For You. And Greta and I were at the premiere the other night.
Starting point is 00:45:22 And we went over to him because I haven't met him and I don't share scenes with him. But I was like, we're such huge fans of Drop Dead Gorgeous and he was like, you know what's crazy? It's like, I get approached about that movie like all the time, all the time. And I'm like, yeah, because it's like a true, I think a bigger cult classic than it even gets credit. I think it's called a cult classic, but it's a classic.
Starting point is 00:45:42 No, people really love it. You want to know what it is? Like, I was reading about it, and it was like, someone made a really good point, which was all those teen movies at the time, none of them had, like, dark humor. So that was the only, like, teen movie about high school that had, like, an abject, like, dark...
Starting point is 00:45:59 After Heathers. There was a long period after Heathers where there was... No, I think the lineage is Heathers Jawbreaker, Jawed Dead Gorgeous. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That would make sense. But in terms of at that time, it was like a lot of I think Bring It On came around that time and She's All That and everything. In terms of 90s movies,
Starting point is 00:46:16 the freaks and theater kids didn't really have a movie that was super appealing to them because that movie was not... Yes, it was about winning a pageant, but it wasn't about like being the most popular girl in school or like getting pretty
Starting point is 00:46:29 or like getting Freddie Prinze Jr. to date you. You know, it was like about like power struggle. And like, it was about women. There really, there is not really a large male presence. Like he's dispensed with pretty early in the movie. Yeah, exactly. The love interest. Yeah, he gets shot.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Number 55. Can't take my eyes off of you, Miss Lauren Hill. You can't really mention Denise Richards and then be disrespectful to Lauren Hill, so I'm happy we did that. Me too. And Lauren, we love you. I'm really happy you put this next one on here.
Starting point is 00:47:00 54. Pass that Dutch, Missy Elliott. This, unfortunately, came on while I was on Molly at the club, and I looked out at the crowd, 54 past that Dutch Missy Elliott this unfortunately came on while I was on Molly at the club and I looked out
Starting point is 00:47:08 at the crowd and the only thing I could think was Mean Girls is maybe the perfect movie yeah yeah because this song
Starting point is 00:47:16 this song comes on when like Regina George gets introduced and I'm like the music supervisor on that movie I think nailed it and there's something
Starting point is 00:47:23 so like there's some I don't know that movie is really think, nailed it. There's something so... I don't know. That movie is really amazing. And evil takes a human form in Regina George. Oh, don't let that... She may look like your... Typical scum-sucking road whore. It's just that...
Starting point is 00:47:38 It's basic, but I do love that movie. Number 53. Impossible from Brandi Cinderella, Whitney Houston. Things are happening every day. The fact that this movie's title might as well now be
Starting point is 00:47:53 Brandy Cinderella. Yeah. But also like that iconic backstage footage. What are you doing down there? What are you doing down there? Why are you down there?
Starting point is 00:48:03 Brandy literally singing Impossible. Why are you down there? Brandy literally singing, impossible. Why are you down there? Number 52. You Don't Own Me, cast of The First Wives Club. Huge. You know,
Starting point is 00:48:16 I've never seen the film. I mean, you've never seen that film? Never seen the film. Can I tell you? I've never seen it either. You've never seen it? And I put it in.
Starting point is 00:48:22 But isn't that a testament? I've seen this scene, obviously, played in gay bars, a video bar staple. either. You've never seen it? And I put it in. But isn't that a testament? I've seen this scene, obviously. It played in gay bars. A video bar staple. Yes. You know what? It's actually not as good of a movie as people...
Starting point is 00:48:32 Want it to be. Remember it to be. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's one of those. It's actually quite long. And it looks like it should be so much more fun than it is. It looks like it should be zany and wacky and the three of them all doing stuff together. It should be sad.
Starting point is 00:48:44 No, it's not sad. It's just kind of like, it doesn't really move. Uh-huh. I don't know, but we're happy it exists. This fall on Bravo. It's time to turn up. Think you've seen it all? I don't think you've been a good friend to me lately. We're friends like that. Who needs enemies? You ain't seen nothing yet.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Cheers to being Germanic. With the Real Housewives of Potomac. Oh my gosh, can I take this in? It's gonna be amazing. New York City. Everyone is a gossip. No one gets a happier life. Salt Lake City.
Starting point is 00:49:15 We don't wear costumes, we wear fashion. And below deck sailing out. You broke the rules and now you're here getting upset. Starting point is 00:51:23 My Cultura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jay Shetty, and I'm the host of On Purpose. My latest episode is with Jelly Roll. This episode is one of the most honest and raw interviews I've ever had. We go deep into Jelly Roll's life story
Starting point is 00:51:43 from being in and out of prison from the age of 13 to being one of today's biggest artists. We talk about guilt, shame, body image, and huge life transformations. I was a desperate delusional dreamer and the desperate part got me in a lot of trouble. I encourage delusional dreamers. Be a delusional dreamer. Just don't be a desperate delusional dreamer. I just had such an anger. I was just so mad at life. Everything that wasn't right was everybody's fault but mine. I had such a victim mentality. I took zero accountability for anything in my life. I was the kid that if you asked what happened, I immediately started with everything but me. It took years for me to break that, like years of work. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:52:26 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Trust me, you won't want to miss this one. 51. He wasn't man enough for me. Tony Braxton. Tony Braxton. This is actually,
Starting point is 00:52:41 in terms of, we listened to it in Vegas, like Patrick, Jared, and I were listening to it in Vegas. In terms of riff listened to it in vegas like patrick jared and i were listening to it in vegas in terms of riffing over a final chorus it is unparalleled her choices over the last chorus are cuckoo bananas like really going for it like i'm forgetting like what exactly it is but like when you listen to it, it's one of those songs that was like on the radio enough when we were like that age where you remember it all.
Starting point is 00:53:11 Yeah. It's like muscle memory. And, and, but you were able to study it with a closer, you did a closer read on it. I just like was hearing it and I was like, how did this woman get in the booth?
Starting point is 00:53:21 And was like, yeah, sure. And then like, she just picked these insane things. It's sort of like Deborah Cox. No. It's just like, there's so much going on.
Starting point is 00:53:31 I think that's providing like a good, like mental model for people. Like imagine the person in the booth and that should like tell you everything. Well, it's actually rule of culture number nine. Let me say it first. If you're hearing a song, it was recorded in the booth. It's Rural Culture number nine.
Starting point is 00:53:48 If you're hearing a song, it was recorded in the booth. Number 50. One Thing, Amore. One Thing, Amore. This is a great song. Amazing song. It's an absolute bop. It was in The Worst Person in the World.

Starting point is 00:55:50 but there are too many words. You need a new one. I can be your girlfriend. And then she does. Like, there's too many syllables, so they couldn't do the original melody. Did it pay off? Was it a huge international hit?
Starting point is 00:56:20 No. No. Absolutely not. I like that the one version you left off of the countdown was the German version. Was the German version. Well, let's listen to it. Let's just listen to the first thing. Oh, well, that's why. And there we have it.

Starting point is 01:18:43 like, puts a sense of awe and wonder in kids today. Yeah. Anything to add? Nothing to add to that. We have arrived at the number one song
Starting point is 01:18:53 on the great global songbook, Bonyang. This was our 300th episode spectacular. Congratulations. Congratulations to you. Honored to be here.

Starting point is 01:20:17 The video was psychotically good. The bisexual lighting with the themes of the song. I dare anyone to be that iconic. I was literally just talking to somebody about this. Starting point is 01:20:36 who get DMs from strangers. Can you imagine what Demi Lovato's inbox looks like? Everything that they represent and honor. Their inbox must be a mess. They're talking about aliens? Ghosts? They must get all kinds.
Starting point is 01:20:55 They probably get a lot of people being like, I also saw a ghost in a Froyo stand that I was trying to buy. They've invited that in, which is wonderful you know, wonderful. Listen, all I know is, with all the craziness that goes on in their life,
