Starting point is 00:02:01 Look, man. Oh, I see. Wow. Oh, and look over there wow is that culture yes ding dong last culture is just calling oh my god i mean here's a good first question where do we start what the hell what the hell can we get to spatially oh horribly what's going on right now i'm looking at you you're three feet away from me you're three feet away from me it's our hot engineer doug is 10 feet away from me it's shocking hot ep anna and her dog ace biscuits yards away yards away
Starting point is 00:02:37 this is suffice it to say we're all as they say we're all in the same room. This is the first studio recording in the COVID times. Oh my God. Because we did record, so top 200 moments of culture history. Let's be transparent, yeah. Well, I mean, this is not to take away from the historic nature of today's episode, but just to provide context, top 200 we recorded in the same room and that was sort of like, that was very energizing to be in the same room. And then we did record with Sudi Green in your apartment under the guidance of Doug and Anna and Hans.
Starting point is 00:03:13 This is us. We're back in the studio. I have to say it's a nostalgia. It's a euphoria. It's an excitement that I can't express and speak on it i just to we're gonna get to who the guest is but we there was only one there was only one guest that could have we should say we're in los angeles that means many things one i'm wearing a jumpsuit and it's sort of become like my thing yeah Yeah. I feel an energy.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Do you like it? I love it. I'm so happy for you. Because I'm sort of like trying the jumpsuit moment so that I can move into like a romper moment, which is tough for me because, as we've talked about off air, I have a long torso.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Jester Bestie, not a flop. Tell me the truth. You found a new staple in your closet. How does it feel? I didn't know this was the part i was gonna get so emotional um speaking as someone who's worn the same silhouette for a really long time to be able to know that you can be 31 and find a new silhouette as a man in hollywood which is what i am first and foremost and then I'm a brother
Starting point is 00:04:27 after that and then I'm a sister I just didn't know that I'd be the one inspiring everyone you know what I mean you never think you're gonna have the responsibility and then guess what that's what happens inspiration radiating so anyway the jumpsuit is like, it's a vibe.
Starting point is 00:04:47 It's a vibe. Yes. And what else? What did we view that was really moving to us? What did we watch last night? We watched Mortal Kombat. Yes. Fantastic experience.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Violent film. Violent film. Violent film, but some really great performances, specifically from... Would you like to know the name? You've told me her name. We're all going to know it. Something McNamee-y? Remember the name. Remember the name.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Jessica McNamee. Jessica McNamee. Who played Sonya Blade, who gave some of the most iconic line reads of all time. I can't recall any right now. That's because they were all equally iconic. This is the first time in history, in the culture, that someone in a single film, every single line they said was iconic on an equal level.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Not since, ooh, I want to say Regina George. Not since Rachel McAdams as Regina George have we seen a performance like this. Now, in watching the film, Bowen said, she must be a stunt woman. I did not. Don't hide. Don't be DNC about this.
Starting point is 00:05:56 I said. I said. Say the truth, which is what you said. We were saying how, you're like, where, like, did she read for this? No, we can't. Yes, yes we can because here's what i think no can i tell you the truth it was such horseshoe theory like we were watching this we
Starting point is 00:06:13 were like oh my god like who is this actor and then and then it looped back into like okay this is actually incredible work it was incredible incredible work. We're being completely serious. Dead ass, this person gave an iconic performance. She was not a stunt woman. She was not a stunt woman. She was someone who's been a working actress for over 15 years. And so here's what I'm saying. It actually was a genius performance
Starting point is 00:06:35 because it was a choice to play Sonya Blade the way she did. Can I tell you the way? I'm not gonna qualify it either way. I actually will qualify it to the reader what you said to me last night. If you betray me. We were like,
Starting point is 00:06:48 why is this so iconic? Why is this so iconic? And I think it is a choice from an experienced actor that you said, it's the choice to have every single line. Sonia says, as if this person just all of a sudden existed in the world, has no prior experience has no prior life experience in any way
Starting point is 00:07:10 she's saying these words for the first time in her life. It was like the character walked onto the screen and she did not exist before. No. She existed only for the movie and that is that is such a genius choice. It's one of the most, and the Oscars don't, Oscars? Or should I say the Flopscars, don't recognize genius in this way.
Starting point is 00:07:32 So I'm already starting the campaign for your consideration, Jessica McNamee for Mortal Kombat with a K. A violent film, but an important film. Guess what? She gets the mark. She gets the mark. She hit all the marks. I'm saying she hit the marks in the plot of the movie. She gets the Mortal Kombat
Starting point is 00:07:49 mark when she kills one of the people from Outworld. You're speaking of the plot. Yes. Well, you said a spoiler. So good luck with the sharks. Honey, just watch the film. You know she's gonna get the mark. You know she's gonna get the mark you know she's gonna get the mark
Starting point is 00:08:05 she's Sonya Blade she's Sonya Blade okay she's rule of culture you know she's gonna get the what number 97
Starting point is 00:08:11 you know she's gonna get the mark the mark she's Sonya Blade I feel a little rusty can I be can I be honest I hate this no I'm not like
Starting point is 00:08:21 cause you're literally on fire no so now you get to play the humble victim I'm not doing that I'm just saying this is really so exciting but also equally nerve-wracking to be in the same room as you my sister and our guest who towering tower towering presence force light beacon one of the best energies in the world in the one could harness yes um and to know that we've harnessed that energy and got it in the same room and let's just say scheduling this week threw us for a loop threw us for a loop but we we were determined to
Starting point is 00:08:58 make it work all of us in this studio and let's just just say that everyone on the crew had a hand in this. Everyone on the crew had a hand in scheduling this episode and I'm looking at Doug, I'm looking at Anna, I'm looking at the guest, I'm looking at my sister. I'm looking at my sister. Hashtag. Hashtag literally sister life. Literally sister life.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Hashtag. I'm getting chills because this was the room where we invented literally sister life. Do you mind? The room where we invented literally sister life do you mind the room where it happened speaking of singing the west side story trailer oh my god chills from the first second mama mama the way the best picture is one the way it's one the way when rita moreno marched out into Union Station and presented for Best Picture, you're like, okay, the campaign is starting a whole year ahead of time. And I'm banging the drum, as they say.
Starting point is 00:09:52 I'm banging the drum. I can't wait for Mr. Ansel, Miss Rachel Ziegler. Honey. Let's shout out the beauty of her. Her. Maria, Maria, I just met a star named Rachel. Oh, that's a rule of culture I've never, I just met a star named Rachel. That's a rule of culture I've never seen one king.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Number nine. Maria, Maria, I just met a star named Rachel. It feels so good to peek on the mic in person. Yes, but to also be completely in sync. Yes. Because you know the delay on Zoom is horrendous and drag her. And Doug does his best Because you know the delay on Zoom. Speak on it. Is horrendous.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Drag her. And Doug does his best every week to make it sync up, but sometimes just can't. Can I? Do you mind? No. I need a soldier. You might be the one tonight. Might be the one. That one might be the one tonight.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Our guest whispered to me through the glass pane hot yeah we've known this dilf even dad i'd like to fuck it's rule of culture number 11 dilf even even dad i'd like to fuck with a hard k hard k um we gotta bring the guest in gotta bring the guest in. We got to bring the guest in. Our guest is, the way my voice breaks with emotion, as I say, an icon. An icon. I said, well, she was on Game Show, and her underline, Chiron, was, is a Halloween costume. Are you? Damn. Got him.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Got him. Got them all. Got them all. Got to catch them all. The Emmy-nominated. Sorry. Sorry. Superstar. Got them all. Got them all. Gotta catch them all. The Emmy nominated. Sorry. Sorry. Superstar of the good place.
Starting point is 00:11:29 The upcoming reboot. I throw my pen on the table. A League of Their Own. The upcoming season of one of the most blue balled shows of our generation, Barry. The balls are so blue. The eyeballs are blue for Barry. Mama, people confuse The balls are so blue. My balls are blue for Barry. Mama, people confuse it with a Smurf. A Smurf.
Starting point is 00:11:51 There's a lot of confusion. A lot of confusion in schools, in churches, at weddings, at funerals. The children are confused. The children are confused. And let's just say she'll be starring in a film alongside Jennifer Lopez herself. Sorry. Sorry. Everyone welcome.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Turning to the guest. Darcy Carden! Girl. I'm silently screaming. No. Scream out loud. Drew Barrymore ass. Oh my God. To know that that ass. Oh. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:12:25 To know that that's the tone. Oh my God. If I was an American Idol judge right now, I'd be like, I didn't expect that sound to come out of you when you walked out here today. Oh. Where are you from?
Starting point is 00:12:36 As an American Idol judge. Yeah, where are you from as an American Idol? Where'd you come from? Why haven't you been discovered yet? Oh yeah, where'd you from? Where are you from? Do they ask that? I haven't watched it. We're kind of like, along the lines of where have you been all this time? What's your deal? Where't you been discovered yet oh yeah where'd you from where are you from do they ask that I haven't watched it
Starting point is 00:12:46 we're kind of like we're like along the lines of like where have you been what's your deal where have you been I don't know yeah do you know what I listened to today
Starting point is 00:12:51 what oh first of all like if you thought that if you thought you knew all of her talents this one she just casually threw
Starting point is 00:13:00 a little clementine up in the air and caught it with backhand underhanded from her with her other arm also can I confront you about something yeah sure of course you were more excited to see the clementine up in the air and caught it with backhand underhanded from her with her other arm. Also, can I confront you on that, Tonsha?
Starting point is 00:13:07 Yeah, sure, of course. You were more excited to see the clementine than you were to see us. No. What are you talking about? I brought this from home, you fucking flop bitch.
Starting point is 00:13:15 I thought that that was on the table for some reason. I was like, well, joke's on her. That's a COVID kumquat. This is a kumquat, too? That's a full-on tangerine. What were you listening
Starting point is 00:13:25 to today David Archuleta crush just speaking of you know speaking of American Idol it's really just another crush
Starting point is 00:13:35 do you catch a you don't know this do you know it you might not I don't know it that well why would you well no no no no no I'm just curious about
Starting point is 00:13:42 what why cause there's just like a fuse there's always a fuse that gets lit when you're like. There's like the pathway from oh to I'm going to listen to the song. That's a great. That's a great.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Like you would never. Yes, yes, yes. So what was it? I'll tell you. Let's see. Okay. Past guest Taylor Trench. Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:01 One of the best. One of the best. One of the best guys, right? Best episodes. Just wonderful. best. One of the best. One of the best guys, right? Best episodes, just wonderful. Yeah, 100%. And my dear sister Miranda and I were having lunch in my backyard with our dogs today. Oh my. Wait, you, Taylor Trench, and Miranda?
Starting point is 00:14:17 That's like, that's a show I want to watch, like a panel show. Just come over and let's do it with also you. Oh my God. Yeah, yeah. Literally, yes. Bowen is so shook that he's going it with also you. Oh my God. Literally, yes. Bowen is so shook that he's going back to New York City. Oh, just stay silly.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Silly. I might do it. Silly ass. But he mentioned somebody. Basically, we talked about American Idol for a second and his admission was that he stopped watching after Kelly,
Starting point is 00:14:39 which I respect, but I was like, oh my God, the years in which I watched every episode. How far did you make it? Okay, let me just think. When did I stop? I mean, I
Starting point is 00:14:52 made it into the Harry Connick, J-Lo years. Wow! The middle era. Yeah, and I didn't miss an episode ever. It was one of those shows for me. It was appointment television. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you make it far? I didn't make it past. I want to say, I think Taylor Hicks, Catherine McPhee was one of those shows. It was appointment television. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Did you make it far? I didn't make it past. I want to say, I think Taylor Hicks, Catherine McPhee was when I.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Respect. I'm in the middle of both of you. Yeah. I made it through Chris Allen and Adam Lambert. Great. Respect. You know what I mean? You guys, you guys did it.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Yeah. To the point where actually. I did it too long. Yeah. I mean, look, what's too long? Yeah. Unless, unless. You're still watching it.
Starting point is 00:15:22 We're talking sexually. Oh. Because then it's like, you know, your organs. Cut that. No, don't. Don't cut it. And let's explore it. I'm just saying some dicks are too big.
Starting point is 00:15:33 And that is true. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? But you know what is a skill of mine? If you have a big dick, feel bad about it. Think about that. Wait, there is a skill of mine I wanted to share which is I know
Starting point is 00:15:46 all of the winner's songs oh that's great okay okay go go go yeah yeah would you like them in order but of course why wouldn't you
Starting point is 00:15:54 well of course there's a moment like this which we all I mean we think we can agree it's one of the most one of the most songs one of the most songs
Starting point is 00:16:01 for sure one of the most songs and then what flying without wings Ruben Sterling. That's the flying without wings. And that's the joy it brings. I'm flying without wings.
Starting point is 00:16:14 What was Clay's song? This is the night. Oh, wait, that's an incredible song. I've been waiting forever for this. This is the night. That's how I feel been waiting forever for this. This is the night. That's how I feel about right now. Ah, this is the night. This is the night.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Title of F. Title of F. This is the night. This is the night. Wow. Wow. We got it so early. To find the title of F.
Starting point is 00:16:37 So early in the same room. So early. My God, you guys, this is, we should keep doing American Idol, but I'm feeling crazy emotional about this. I feel crazy. And crazy. And emotional. And emotional.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Talk about it. Are you sort of like, is this sort of one of your first in-person hangs indoors? Yes, but no. Because as you mentioned this J-Lo movie, I did just get back from two and a half months in the Dominican Republic where we were like fully indoors. Yeah. But like with friends, it's like the pre-life stuff, you know what I mean? That's what it is. The pre-life stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:10 The pre-life stuff. This doesn't even bother me. I'm tapping the glass panes. You know, actually when I read in the email, shout out to Anna. Shout out to Anna. As always. As always. That there was going to be glass in between us.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I was a little like, why? But also I get it. I get it. It hasn't bothered me at all. It just sort of is what it is. We're in here together. I know. Crazy. For me, as a friend of yours, I'm pointing to both of you, but also
Starting point is 00:17:38 as such a huge fan of the podcast, you guys got me through this damn year. Flop. Flop ass. Don't flop right now. Truly though, it was like, you guys got me through this damn year flop ass don't flop right now it was when we all felt and I'm sure listeners at home readers you're feeling the same way
Starting point is 00:17:54 like to have two warm friends that you know so well when we were all alone it was and there was even a while in the beginning where you guys weren't doing it which of course you had to not do it and then you i'm just itching my armpit and then you figured out how to do it and that remember that you guys listeners readers remember that first episode back it was so warm it was such a warm hug i felt so like um the old it just felt like the the net then
Starting point is 00:18:21 the old days in modern times. Oh my God. Honestly, it has been a very nice constant to do. I bet. But the thing is like, I will say this, now doing this in person, I'm like, oh God, when can it just all be in person? It'll all be in person soon. Because Bowen is of course like,
Starting point is 00:18:39 famously lives in New York for work. Famously. And so he's got to be there. But I am going to be in New York for like a whole month this summer. You guys are good at this. I mean, here's the thing. You guys, your Zooming was fucking perfect. Your Zooming was flawless.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Yes, was the singing always off. Of course it was. Yes. And did it almost work that it was a second delay on each of you? Yeah, it almost seemed on purpose. Well, you know what it revealed? It really revealed when one of us
Starting point is 00:19:05 did not always know the words yeah oh that's embarrassing I don't want to think about it no do think about it because it's a great
Starting point is 00:19:12 no come on shut up when one of you doesn't know the words and you are committing to it you never don't commit that's beautiful
Starting point is 00:19:18 you never don't commit I will say the final one thing that's hard to do it's like sort of Ellen dances at the top of it all that you sort of are like
Starting point is 00:19:25 wow we still have to do this every episode because we've said it is the song at the end sometimes you wish you didn't have it it's rarely discussed in fact it's never discussed
Starting point is 00:19:33 it doesn't ever seem discussed and then I feel like lately we've been bad at like both knowing exactly what the energy sure of the song is but you know
Starting point is 00:19:42 who is keeping all of the songs in a playlist? Maddie Hines. Really? Hins, Maddie Hins on Spotify. That's great, Maddie Hins. We love Maddie Hins. We love Maddie.
Starting point is 00:19:52 I would love that. I mean, what I want as a reader is, yes, I want a playlist of all the songs. I want a book of the rules, of the rules of culture. I think that there's been a coffee table book discussed. And there should be. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:20:04 How long are we going to discuss before we get okay urban outfitters i've actually here's i'm just going to reveal oh i have said this i've said we should do this to bowen and bowen feels like we should sit on it and think of a think of a book idea that we both really like and then we did think of one that we really liked and we want to do that maybe wait what and what was this idea don't reveal it what are you crazy wait what what oh that's fun yeah remember that yeah i that what that was an interesting one i thought that was a little unexpected so anyway you could just plop out the rules of of culture because it is done and you could just comment you could do a little it's basically like you plop out the rules of culture because it is done. It's done.
Starting point is 00:20:45 You could do a little. It's basically like you plop them out. You maybe do a little blurb on each thing. They need the blurbs because the. Get paid. Honey. Maybe. And honestly, it would be fun to do.
Starting point is 00:20:59 And also we could get someone really cool to add it to illustrate each one. Yeah. Like not pictures, illustrations. And first of all, can we just say. Dr. Seuss. It's a rule of culture. Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss. This is the full rule of culture it's a rule of culture. Dr. Seuss? Dr. Seuss?
Starting point is 00:21:06 This is the full rule of culture. It's rule of culture number 33. Illustrations, not pictures. Dr. Seuss? Wow, we've already, we're four rules deep. Four rules deep. And we are two minutes into the episode. And we have the title. No, and the episode's only been going for two minutes.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Two minutes. That's a crazy thing. We have the title. So let's just say that the rest of them in this order are this. Okay, great. Wow. This is the night
Starting point is 00:21:31 and then and then there was Fantasia's which was I can see it in the stars across the skies. What was Diana DeGarmo's? I believe. I believe.
Starting point is 00:21:40 No, Diana DeGarmo's was called Dreams. Dreams, Dreams. And then Carrie Carrie and Bo was famously Inside Your Heaven. and then Diana Dungan-Mose was called Dreams Dreams, Dreams and then Carrie and Bo was Inside Your Heaven I wanna be inside your heaven take me to the place
Starting point is 00:21:52 you cry from where the storm blows you away then we had, this one never gets any respect Taylor Hicks do I make you proud God, I have I do have so much love. Taylor Hicks. Do I make you proud? God. I do have so much love for Taylor Hicks. Which is not a popular
Starting point is 00:22:10 opinion. No, no. You didn't have the McFever. I had hot McFever. And weirdly, might still. She's persona non grata though. She's kind of persona non grata. And that is a term that I understand. And I don't want you to just tell me real quick what that means again. She's persona non grata, though. She's kind of persona non grata. And that is a term that I understand. And I don't want you to just tell me real quick what that means again. She's been ridiculed in the square.
Starting point is 00:22:31 She was a main character on Twitter for a day. She definitely flopped hard into the clown square. And I guess that's why I'm like, I must be a fan because I still follow her on things. Yes, we have not canceled. That is not the word. That's not the word to use. We're just saying she flopped into the town square. She flopped into the town square multiple. When she's flopped into the town square, it's
Starting point is 00:22:51 because there was donations to the Republican Party found in the year of our Lord 2018. That is right. Like 2019. And like very recently. And it's kind of like, that's clownish behavior. Honey. Honey. Yeah, no, no. Okay, I'm going to unfollow tonight. No. Honey. Yeah, no, no. Okay, I'm going to unfollow tonight. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:23:06 No. You know what? I loved her so much that season. I remember. Do you remember she was very funny? Yes, she was very charming. Comedian. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I'm giving her so much love right now because I'm sure she's listening. I don't know her to be so funny anymore, right? She was a funny teen. Well, she's goofy. She was a damn – Oh, she's goofy now. She's goofy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:32 She does videos with her husband, David Foster. And she's often goofy in the videos. And the two of them sort of have a shtick. Okay, so I guess I follow her, but I don't follow her because I don't know any of this. But that's the algorithm for you, honey. The early COVID videos of like her and David Foster doing like a little
Starting point is 00:23:46 variety show they were entertaining the girls yeah yeah but then but there was something off
Starting point is 00:23:52 about David Foster and then the documentary we all watched and you realize there's a lot off with David Foster there's so many things off with David Foster
Starting point is 00:23:59 David Oster I don't know Sly Queen Sly Queen yeah I did have I was really a McPhee fan. I thought her voice was incredible. I thought she was funny, and I thought she was hot as hell.
Starting point is 00:24:11 She was certainly a smoke show. Yeah. But then I had so much love for Taylor Hicks. I don't know why. I loved his little voice, and I mean, what was up with that dude? Yeah, he sort of performed like he's always trying to itch his side with his elbow. You know what I mean? Like, do it! And he always sang, like, take me to the pot! Yeah, yeah was sort of, he sort of performed like he's always trying to itch his side with his elbow. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:24:31 Like, do I make, and he always sang like, take me to the parlor, leave me to the, like these old like dad rock songs. Sorry, Doug. Sorry, Doug. Sorry, Doug. Do you know the song, take me to the parlor? He's nodding harder than anyone's ever nodded. Of course he does. Doug.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Of course he does. Yeah. You know that song, take me to the parlor, Doug? Of course he freaking does. Take me to the parlor, Doug? Of course he frickin' does. Take me to the parlor. Of course he dugs. Okay, so moving more into contemporary music, we then were, of course,
Starting point is 00:24:53 giving the breath of fresh air. That was Jordan Sparks. Oh, yeah. Who famously sang, this is my now. Do you remember she kind of came out, she was always so consistently good, but never a front runner. And then all of a sudden there was no other choice but her.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Literally. She did what they say is flying under the radar. Right. And I can't remember who her other competition was, but it was so clearly someone else. Blake Lewis. Okay, thank you. And what are they doing? He was a beatboxer.
Starting point is 00:25:21 So he auditioned as a beatboxer and they put him on and then he sort of revealed that he could sort of sing and he made it to the end and that was a really good season.
Starting point is 00:25:31 It had incredible singers on it but that was the final two and then it was just so clearly Jordan. And even, I don't remember
Starting point is 00:25:38 who the maybe top four or five was but even that, she was like, oh, of course she's up there but she's not gonna win. I don't know, she just came out,
Starting point is 00:25:44 she really popped. That was the energy. She just came out. She really like popped. That was the energy. That was the energy. Who do we wish that she would redo No Air with? Because it's so hard to listen to. It's such a shame because what a good song. Yeah. Rule of Culture in my house, we don't listen to Chris Brown in this house.
Starting point is 00:25:59 No. Oh, no. And I actually get weird when I hear people playing it. I know. And I'm sure some of, I know people have reason. I know, you know what? Do they? What reasons?
Starting point is 00:26:08 I don't think they have reasons. And whenever someone plays Chris Brown, I look at them and they know. They know. They know that they shouldn't be playing it. Yeah, yeah. No matter what else they're doing at the time, if they're setting something on fire and Chris Brown is on, Bowen is looking at them and he's talking about Chris Brown. I look at them and I'm like, you know you're
Starting point is 00:26:26 wrong. It's like R. Kelly. You're dead wrong. Did Gaga redid the R. Kelly song with what? Christina Aguilera? Okay, so it's gotta be Christina Aguilera. She should be on Nowhere too. Honestly, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I think yes. I'm into it. I love Christina doing anything. And with that energy. Okay, so don't know. I think yes. I'm into it. I love Christina doing anything. Ha ha ha ha. And with that energy. Okay, so Jordan Sparks. Wait, so then season seven was who? Fuck. Well, this is where things start to get really murky.
Starting point is 00:26:55 This is where things definitely start to get murky. Was it then Chris Allen and... Yes. Okay, so Chris Allen's song was... There are no boundaries. There are no boundaries. Yeah, he was a sweetie. He was like a sweetie. Super sweet.
Starting point is 00:27:09 But was he a better singer than Adam Lambert? Because people... Or is America homophobic? People were freaked. You know the answer to that. God, they were freaked. And you know who wasn't freaked? Adam Lambert.
Starting point is 00:27:18 No. He took that shit in stride. He was like, you will be seeing me. Yeah, he'll be seeing me. I'm going absolutely nowhere. Like, I'll be so gay. Yes. He said, I'll be so gay. He was like, you will be seeing me. I'm going absolutely nowhere. I'll be so gay. Yes. He said I'll be so gay. He did say that. Respect for
Starting point is 00:27:30 Adam Lambert. Can we all just say? For sure. Honestly, does he get his flowers? I don't think he gets his flowers. He's the lead singer of Queen. He's doing fine. But I'm just saying in that moment, he didn't give a fuck. He was like, diss me honey.
Starting point is 00:27:46 You know what's crazy to think about? That was fully 2008. Oh, God. And think about how recently that is that he, Adam Lambert, one of, I think we could say, the gayest men in America. And I say that with so much love as one of them as well. Like, that he couldn't be saying on American Idol that he was gay. But did he not? I don't remember. No,
Starting point is 00:28:08 he didn't. But I felt like he, I felt like it was, I, I understood. Well, of course everybody understood, but I felt like he definitely wasn't being like,
Starting point is 00:28:14 and this song's from my girlfriend back at home. No, he wasn't performing it the way that Clay was like, he was fully like, not, not out like closeted. But I remember it was like Adam Lambert had to come out in Rolling Stone after the show ended. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Because he had that iconic sort of, of course, there was like a huge python wrapped around his thigh on the cover of Rolling Stone. I love that. Yeah, very phallic. Would you agree? Yeah, yeah. Oh, I would agree. So phallic. Yeah, then there, okay.
Starting point is 00:28:40 No, nothing, nothing. I do get a little murky around here, even though I watched it. We had Adam Lambert. Oh, wait, he didn't win. We had Chris Allen. So then Chris Allen. And then this is where I stopped watching. So that's where I, as they say in the biz, fall off.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Fall off, right. Yeah. And the funny thing is, even though I watched every episode and was into it, I don't know any of these songs. I mean, I watched them the one time they performed the finale and never again. Even being such a Kelly head, which I know you guys are too. Moment like this is like my least favorite of hers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I mean, it's certainly not, I wouldn't say she likes it. Right. You know what I mean? Right. Kelly. But I feel like the thing about,
Starting point is 00:29:16 the reason why I like all these songs is because they're so drag and drop, schmaltzy, stupid. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That to me, it's my favorite thing in the world.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Yeah, for sure. It's all about like if we try hard enough we can climb the mountain and if we can climb the mountain we can reach the stars and if we can reach the stars
Starting point is 00:29:31 then thank you everyone who's supported me this far and that's what it is because I knew I could do it all along even though there was hard roads
Starting point is 00:29:37 yes that is that's exactly what it is is they crafted these songs to be like a thank you to the it's a Joseph Campbell hero's journey
Starting point is 00:29:45 in a three and a half minute ballad good job which that's not culture which there's value there yeah immense value what fun
Starting point is 00:29:53 this is the night I mean title of ep this is the night unless we beat it we don't want to put our yeah we gotta the doors are open
Starting point is 00:30:00 the doors are open the doors are never closed at all times at all times title of ep the doors are open at all times are open. The doors are never closed. At all times. At all times. At all times. Title of app. The doors are open at all times. Title of app.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Title of app. Maybe. No. But what were you going to say? This is the night. I just, it's coming back to me. And maybe this has come back to me on the show in the past. But I have such an urge to, reader, play it right now.
Starting point is 00:30:22 Yeah, stop everything and play it right now. And then when you come back, you'll understand when I say, keep me close to your heart. And he hits that art. I would go with you to the ends
Starting point is 00:30:38 of the earth and we'll fly. I've been waiting forever for this This is the night What an incredible song. That is beyond the schmaltzy schmaltzy. That's like, I've been waiting forever for this. And sometimes those writers were like,
Starting point is 00:30:59 oh, we have a singer. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was the thing. And also another loser on that show. And that's, you know what? What is losing? Honestly,
Starting point is 00:31:07 because there's so many, like think of that first season. Wait, I mean, of course it should have been Kelly. Wait, no, think of that damn Fantasia season. Yeah. Like get real.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Get real losers. Yes, Jennifer Hudson's seventh place. Har, har, har. It's one of the things I har at the hardest. I har. I absolutely har.
Starting point is 00:31:24 I har. I har to the concerning point har I absolutely har I har to the concerning point I heart I heart radio but not that result but not
Starting point is 00:31:31 not at all okay wait I was gonna say okay so you said stop the pod and go listen to that song I do have to say when I was listening
Starting point is 00:31:40 to Taylor Taylor what what I'm like from our title we'll have to stop the pod. Stop the pod. When I was listening to,
Starting point is 00:31:47 was I listening to Tayla Taylor? No, Swift Swift. Yeah, okay. Tester podcast. Yeah, yeah. Episode. I was like, oh, this is one episode
Starting point is 00:31:55 where I almost wish they were playing the song lightly in the background because I did do a lot of pausing and listening, which is fine. Well, you know, she would not like that.
Starting point is 00:32:02 She would not like that. She would not like, oh, she would probably not allow it. No, would probably not allow it. No, she would not allow it. Oh, of course you're right. We'd probably be hearing from Taylor. You'd be hearing from Taylor.
Starting point is 00:32:10 We'd be hearing from Taylor. Yeah. This is some hot gossip that Matt just shared with me today. Juicy. Wait, what did I say? That the scuttlebutt is. Oh. Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme.
Starting point is 00:32:21 Talk about culture. Guess who is rumored to be a halftime show performer next Super Bowl? There's Buzz. There's Buzz, that it's Taylor. There's Buzz. Has she not done it before? Well, she used to. She was a Diet Coke girl.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Okay. Remember she was doing those ads? So it's a Pepsi. Persona non grata. Persona non grata. For Pepsi. That's right, yes. The word that I know.
Starting point is 00:32:38 So Pepsi is. Is that the same word? Persona non grata. But did you guys say that before? Three separate words. We've said it before. Okay, great. Tonight. Tonight. It's three separate words that means? Three separate words. We've said it before. Okay, great. Tonight.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Tonight. It's three separate words that means she's not to be spoken of in this space. That's what that means? You are persona non grata. And grata means in this space. In this space. Person not to... Okay, I definitely thought that persona non grata meant very important person.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Yeah, it's from the Latin expression, we don't talk about her. That's right. We don't talk about her in here. Do not bring her up in here. We do not speak of her. That's right. That's right. Okay, so because of the Pepsi Coke thing,
Starting point is 00:33:12 she wasn't- The Pepsi Coke thing, she was kind of barred from ever doing the halftime show, but I think, look, it was one of her tips in her Vogue, seven to three questions, get a good lawyer. Get a good lawyer.
Starting point is 00:33:23 And they can talk about anything. That's why Bowen and I have silent killers. Silent killers. Isaac and Seth, we shout you out. We shout out to Isaac and Seth. Absolute fucking sniper ass.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I'm telling you, Isaac and Seth. Do you work with Isaac and Seth? No, but I can feel their such... Oh my God. They're in here with us right now. They should do Mortal Kombat.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Yes. It'd be incredible. Oh my God. They'd hit their mark or whatever you said. They'd get their mark. They'd get their mark. There'd be incredible they'd hit their mark or whatever you said they'd get their mark get their mark there'd be no question
Starting point is 00:33:48 but the thing is flawless victory with good lawyers it doesn't matter that Coke and Pepsi have an ancient rivalry they would be able to get through
Starting point is 00:33:56 oh Coke and Pepsi they have an ancient rivalry it's rule of culture yes Coke and Pepsi Coke and Pepsi have an ancient rivalry and Taylor Taylor transcends the rivalry Coke and Pepsi have an ancient rivalry.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And Taylor, Taylor transcends the rivalry. That is true. And that is true. 100%. Yeah, she should do that. God. She should, but like, hello? What? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Yeah, I mean, I actually am like, I cannot believe she hasn't done it yet. But she's not going to play her plucky little folk songs. No, no, no. No, that wouldn't be appropriate. Are you ready for it? What did I say today, King? I said, do you know we're getting ready for it?
Starting point is 00:34:30 Yeah. And then in my head, I kind of sadly thought to myself, the finale, you know, would be Shake It Off. Oh, right. Which might feel good in the moment, but I'm never excited about it. I know. I know, I know. It's hard.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Have you guys seen her concert? Yeah. Yeah. We saw her in concert. Yeah. One of the best days of our lives. One of the best days of our lives. I know. It's hard. Have you guys seen her concert? Yeah. Yeah. We saw her in concert. Yeah. One of the best days of our lives. One of the best days of our lives. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:48 The 1989 World Tour. 1989 World Tour. What was I? Yeah, I was 89 too. Where she did all the videos. She did so many videos. And well, I also saw Reputation. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Which was also a lot of media. Oh, yeah. I bet that was so fun. Oh, there was a huge snake. Yes. Yes, yes. I guess I watched the- She was so mad.
Starting point is 00:35:03 The Netflix documentary. Yes. I was like, I also was there? Yeah. But the, oh, the videos in the 1989 was so funny, right? Yeah, she was very upset. I feel like she was like right off camera being like, talk about me. Yeah, yeah, she was like-
Starting point is 00:35:14 She's like, oh my God, don't, this is embarrassing though. There is no explanation. There is only reputation. Yeah. She did no interviews. Woo. Oh my. Oh my.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Wow. The ultimate Taylor face. Another thing I just wanted to say really quick is I agree with you. Ivy is one of her best songs ever. Beautiful song. Thank you. The taste on Darcy. And Cowboy.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I mean, give me Ivy. Also, everyone needs to listen to Happiness again. Me too. I mean, I agree. I mean, yes. It is. So maybe she should. Maybe we are getting a folklore Evermore Super Bowl. This fall on Bravo. It's time to turn up.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Think you've seen it all? I don't think you've been a good friend to me lately. We're friends like that. Who needs enemies? You ain't seen nothing yet. Oh, look at you giving me therapy, girl. Finally, a show for the mentally ill girlies. On Basketcase, I talk to people about what happens when what we call mental health is shaped by the conditions of the world we live in. Because if you haven't noticed, we are experiencing some kind of conditions that are pretty hard to live with. But if you struggle to noticed, we are experiencing some kind of conditions that are pretty hard to live with. But if you struggle to cope, the society that created the conditions in the first place will tell you there's something wrong with you. And it will call you a basket case.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Listen to Basket Case every Tuesday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week, Charlemagne Tha God sits down with Vice President Kamala Harris for a conversation you don't want to miss. The things that we want and are prepared to fight for won't happen if we're not active and if we don't participate. They tackle the big questions, politics, policy, and what's next for the country. Doesn't the Biden administration have to take some blame for the border though? Charlemagne, first thing we dropped was a bill to fix the broken immigration system, which, by the way, Trump did not fix when he was president. Don't miss this in-depth interview with Charlemagne the God and Vice President Kamala Harris,

Starting point is 00:39:17 No, just you guys, you guys, you guys. Like, talking in a room where, like, do we have COVID brain? Yeah. Do you want to know what this is? This is actually, and you'll agree with me, this is actual lost cult energy. This is lost cult. And this is what we needed. Because you just, look, the Zoom has been fine.
Starting point is 00:39:42 And you guys have killed the Zoom. We've even had some we've had a great episode we love zoom great episode but but you can't beat this and it was funny when you got when you guys first went to zoom i almost was like no that's not gonna work it's so i've been in the room yeah and i know that energy and this isn't gonna work and they're gonna try it a couple times she was she was she was times. She was calling flop. I was calling flop. From the jump.
Starting point is 00:40:08 March 2020, she was calling flop. She was saying they're done. No, I just thought, let's take, well, also I was of the mind like, we'll be out of this in a month. You know what I mean? So I was like, let's just wait. Wait it out, guys. We have like six weeks of this.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Tops. Do you remember how we all said that and then it was a huge chunk of our life i know everybody has said this a million times but i do remember like in in california the friday of covid i think new york was like the week before two weeks before yeah yeah but that that cookie friday where everybody went absolutely nut and we and you know you you got your groceries and we went home and we watched contagion like every fucking person. Oh my God. But I do remember my husband, Jason, who, shout out to Jason.
Starting point is 00:40:48 We love Jason. Who is, let's just say Prince Charming. King Charming. King Charming. King Charming. Emperor. Char King. Char King.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Like would let him slap me across the face. Yeah, me too. And I have. No, I haven't. But I would. Yeah. You haven't yet. He probably has.
Starting point is 00:41:02 No, he probably has. No, don't rule it out. I'm absolutely not. Wait. I'll do it tonight. What did Jason do? Oh, just, he's more, but I would. He probably has. No, he probably has. No, don't rule it out. I'm absolutely not. Wait, I'll do it tonight. What did Jason do? He, oh, just, he's more, what'd you say? No, I was just laughing because I was like, yeah, you can't rule anything out. The thing is in relationships, you got to keep it spicy.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Yeah, you got to keep it spicy. That means not ruling out. No. Slapping. Slapping. I'm sure he's slapped me absolutely across the face. Have you slapped him? Yeah, I know I have.
Starting point is 00:41:24 But out of love. Yeah, right. Not out of, you bet slapped him? Yeah, I know I have. But out of love. Yeah, right. Not out of, you bet. It was like, come over here, you hunk of man. Yes. Whack. Hard. I have a tendency to get a little, like, loopy, violent loopy.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Yeah. Since I was a damn child. Relatable. Yeah. Where it's like, that was too hard, Darce. Can I ask you an uncomfortable question? Have we had sex yet? Me and my husband? No, I figured that that's happened. I figured, yeah. This is real. hard, Dars. Can I ask you an uncomfortable question? Have we had sex yet? Me and my husband?
Starting point is 00:41:45 No, I figured that that's happened. I figured, yeah. This is real. Oh my God. So you look at her sort of redirecting. I know, I know. She's now like sort of What are you about to add?
Starting point is 00:41:53 Communically doing a bit with the tangerine. It is a great bit. Reader, if only you could see this bit, my God. My God. Put that down, look at me and answer this. Were you a tickler? Okay, wait. Do you mean did I get tickled or tickle?
Starting point is 00:42:09 Are you someone who tickles others out of sick joy? Okay, wait. Hold on. Hold on. I said not too quickly because here's what I've done and perhaps do. Here's what I've done. Is like a – okay, explain what I'm doing with my hands. Sort of –
Starting point is 00:42:24 Oh, like a little light. Like a little – So you have your fingers splayed out, fanned out, but then you do like a okay explain what I'm doing with my hands sort of oh like a little light like a little so you have your fingers splayed out fanned out but then you do like a like a little rib like a little rib squeeze rib squeeze
Starting point is 00:42:31 in hopes of getting a little ah you know like ooh like a little like to a kid you know like a little that's nice like a little tiny squeeze
Starting point is 00:42:39 just shock you shock you I gotcha but the like the tickle god what is tickling so you know what it is but matt is power matt is an un unethical tickler you love to tickle well not not in the last few years but i used to be the kind of person that was like i'm gonna tickle you and bowen bowen
Starting point is 00:42:59 has been tickled by me i'm just gonna come out and say this i'm and i'm i'm taking accountability i've tickled bowen to tears thousands of times to a past consent yes okay that's where we get a little that's actually bad yeah that that gets that's where i can't believe we came back and i got canceled on the first episode and you brought it up bitch i know i i yeah tickling can get into like that sort of gray area and i haven't done it in very long time. Yeah. But I mean, tickling can be fun. It can be.
Starting point is 00:43:29 A little. It can be. But there is that moment where it's like, no, stop. Stop. And I've said to you, and I just want you to really hear this. You've tickled me and tickled me and I've said, stop. Yeah. I don't want you to do that.
Starting point is 00:43:42 And what do you do? A little more. You keep going. Here's the thing. It's not what do you do? A little more. You keep going. Here's the thing. It's not what do you do. What have you done? And I think that we need to give grace. Yes, we do.
Starting point is 00:43:51 We need to give grace. We need to forgive. It's getting too much. I just got off the phone with Sharon Osbourne about this. And we agree. And you guys were in. Okay, good, good, good. Yeah, it was me, Sharon, and Piers all on three-way call.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Just kidding. No, they were bad. You guys, he's kidding. I'm so kidding. I haven't tickled Bowen in many years. But yeah, tickling is an interesting one. I didn't have tickly parents. Right.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Like, tickling is a real uncle-aunt move, right? Yeah. I had tickly relatives. I think that's how it's passed on. That's how it's passed on. If you've been tickled, you will tickle. Yes. We're getting dark.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Okay, let's go back to American Idol. No, I don't know. I was talking about slapping my husband. What were we saying? Jason, at the first week of the pandemic. Oh yeah,
Starting point is 00:44:31 what did he say? He's more of a, he's more of a, doomsday type. Yeah. You know, like we have the earthquake backpacks and all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:44:41 So while I, men be like that. Men be like that. And so when, you know, when, when all this damn stuff stuff started let's actually not fucking talk about covid but i'll just do it really quick please he he was he was seeing the future of like this is going to be months and months and i do remember him saying like this is going to go well into the summer and i i wanted to be like you fool are you out of your fucking mind i was the same way i was just like let's not
Starting point is 00:45:03 do this that that is you know that's not do this. That, that is, you know, that's not true. Right. So why are we, so why are you doing this? Why are we doing this? Did you read an article? I was the same way.
Starting point is 00:45:10 I was, I thought that people that were being like that were just like those types of people revealing themselves as those people that like to meddle in like the darkness of a situation
Starting point is 00:45:19 because that's more comfortable for them. Meanwhile, they were just like seeing literally the future. I know. Yeah. And then when
Starting point is 00:45:25 the two week talk was the big one, right? For everybody it was like, okay, lockdown for two weeks and even that you were, okay, we're done. This has been talked to dark. No, I think people haven't been talking about it. I think it merits us talking about it because of what this day is. This is the night. This is the
Starting point is 00:45:42 night. And can we say something? Clay went on to run for office yes he went on to become megan mccain's best friend and that makes him a better man than las culturistas because we still have that invitation for megan mccain to come beyond the pot our producer megan mccain our producer who are she just refuses what what, what, what? Have you talked, have you met her? No. Have you not been on The View? I've not been.
Starting point is 00:46:08 Well, let's, we're gonna, we're gonna leave it. We want Darcy to be able to go on The View. Yeah, okay. We're gonna leave it alone. Because here's the thing. Yeah. One of my greatest dreams for everyone is that they get to go on The View. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:46:18 So I won't do this to you. But what about when you guys go on The View? We're not gonna be on The View. Because of this. Bowen's gonna be on The View. Bowen's gonna be on The View. I'm not gonna be on The View. I're not going to be on The View. Because of this. Bowen's going to be on The View. Bowen's going to be on The View. I'm not going to be on The View. I think Megan knows the score.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Okay. Well, I don't think she makes the decisions over there, girlfriend. Is she there for the long haul? How long has she been there? I think she is. Yeah. I mean, she's certainly there. But the thing is, there is, of course, the open invitation for her to come on the pod.
Starting point is 00:46:40 And we would love to see her. And if she can charm us, we have a death pact. If she can get us to say oh we like her actually then we kill her we have to go and our lives cute
Starting point is 00:46:49 together yeah of course together always together okay wait kill each other or kill each other kill each other I would want to kill each other
Starting point is 00:46:55 you would well I have always said I want to be the last thing you see yeah there you go and that could still hold true kill each other just not with a damn gun
Starting point is 00:47:02 please no let's take pills. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Arsenic. Yeah. You know what I think is so chic? Oh my God, please.
Starting point is 00:47:10 The cyanide moment. Don't you? Like when someone just bites into their tooth and they go, and they foam with their mouth and they're just gone. That's confidence.
Starting point is 00:47:19 That's confidence. That's you. You're making the decision so quickly and you know that you're gonna get to the result just as fast that's right that's fucking it's chic as hell chic as hell biting into a pen or biting into a glass like I always think those little
Starting point is 00:47:34 cyanide guys are in like a little glass thing but it's like bitch yeah I'm gonna bleed and also I'm gonna die honey they're hidden in their molars what do you mean? like literally it's like the way that super spies do this, at least on film and television, which is, you know, of course how I'm consuming this. I'm not actually seeing people from the, let's say, CIA actually do this.
Starting point is 00:47:53 So this is only how I understand it in media. But it's a capsule of cyanide that's like in your back molar, and then you know to bite into it so that it slips down your throat, and that's how you go. It lives there forever? You have it there as a fail-safe. You have it there as a fail-safe. But what if you choke on it? That's what I your throat and that's how you go. It lives there forever? You have it there as a fail safe. Or just on this particular night?
Starting point is 00:48:06 But what if you choke on it? That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. What if you laugh and it, what if, humiliating first of all
Starting point is 00:48:13 flop energy. Absolutely. You have it in the side like a piece of gum and then you know when you're like trying to hide your gum from the teacher
Starting point is 00:48:20 or whatever and it comes to the front. Humiliating. Or literally, and this has happened to me before, you know, you eat a Swedish fish and then the gummy
Starting point is 00:48:27 burrows right into the calf tooth and it pulls it out. I have to say, one of the most frustrating things is that and also something we experienced last night, which is right after you eat popcorn, good luck to you. Good luck. Every time I eat popcorn
Starting point is 00:48:43 I think to myself, fool yeah you did it again you idiot you knew coming you known your whole life like you were born yesterday yes and what do you hate in the teeth or what about like what about what's this thing i'm pointing to down below your tongue gotta be your gums but like glands in there yeah yeah yeah like pieces in there get real popcorn fuck Fuck you. Yeah, popcorn is literally one of the craziest things that exists out there because it's so good. So delicious.
Starting point is 00:49:12 And so awful. You know what is so funny? I was just about to say, you know what else? This is like corn. Hundred percent. Corn on a damn cob. I forgot they were the same. But they feel totally different vibes entirely. One couldn't be wetter.
Starting point is 00:49:28 One couldn't be drier. There you go. Can you imagine watching a movie and like you eating corn while you watch a movie? But that's what we're doing. That is. 100%. You know what I do with the corn on the cob? What?
Starting point is 00:49:37 Cut it off. Yeah. Is that annoying? You know what? No. This is not annoying. This is actually, it's a return to youth. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:44 It's your inner child. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because I really love, sure, I love a return to youth. It's your inner child. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I really love, sure, I love Korn. Who doesn't? Don't lose her. Don't lose her. Don't lose her. My inner child.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Keep her close. Don't lose that inner child. Keep cutting that Korn off the cob. You two are people who are very in touch with their inner child. I have to say. I think that is very true. And I'm someone who is probably. Do you feel like you're not?
Starting point is 00:50:05 I have probably had to like really distance myself from him. I want to know him. Oh, no, no, no. I mean, no, you're getting him. But no, I want to literally know him. I want to know Bowen at seven. Yeah. I want to hold him.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Here's a reveal. Today we went to Universal Studios Hollywood with the number one chief reasoning of we wanted to go to Jurassic World to see B.D. Wong act in the pre-show. Oh, great. And? Check mark. Check mark. He was amazing. He was the highlight of the whole pre-show.
Starting point is 00:50:34 The highlight. Let's just say some of the other actors in the pre-show, I'm not going to say their names because I know they're wonderful people, but they were phoning in a little bit in the pre-show. And very clearly the eyeline was going left to right to left, right to left. Guys, come on. Commit. No. Just reading off a prom. And very clearly, the eyeline was going left, right to left, right to left. Guys, come on, commit. No. Just reading off a prompter very clearly. Come on. Bradley Daryl Wong
Starting point is 00:50:49 was reading these lines, delivering them with authority. Good, always. With conviction, comfort. I mean, that character is so interesting. Basically, you wanted to know more. That's right.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Yes. Go on, BD. It was a go-on moment. And we have to say, he looked very, very attractive. Can you imagine him not? There was a reason to, let's just say, not wear loose pants that day. Because of what? Because, you know what?
Starting point is 00:51:17 You're an absolute boner for BD to show. You're boner. Boner. Boner. The reason, the boner, the word boner. Boner is goofy ass. It's so, I mean, boners are great, but boner boner boner with the reason the boner the word boner boner is goofy ass it's so wait i mean boners are great but boner boner i know and there's that inner child and i'm so happy to see she's here you know what i mean she's here don't lose her don't lose her um the reason i bring that up is because there was a child in front of us in the line at one of the rides oh my god and he was
Starting point is 00:51:43 he was sort of um performing performing for his father in a way that was like you could tell he was like sort of an action movie and it was just him and the dad the kid might have been like six years old and he was like flopping around in the best way um sort of like pretending to like duck and cover and like tackle his dad and everything and bellum looks at the boy and he sort of goes under he's sort of said under his breath i I was like that. Oh. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:52:07 You heard that? I hear everything. You're my best friend. Oh, my God. I thought I was, that was just like a thought I had to myself. We were stoned, we should say. But I was, I was like, I was like that. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:52:19 And in your mind, you thought that. I thought that. And I didn't think my sister could hear it. Can you, oh, you guys are so connected. I heard it 100%. That's really nice. And I absorbed it. and I didn't think my sister could hear it. Can you, oh, you guys are so connected. I heard it 100%. That's really nice. And I absorbed it. And you didn't even comment on it.
Starting point is 00:52:29 You know what it was like? It was like, did you watch WandaVision? Yeah, everything. So it was like the energy of like, when- I thought you weren't allowed to talk about it anymore, the straights. No, it's over. So our rule is that if it was over a week ago, we can talk about it. We can talk about it.
Starting point is 00:52:40 No, like you weren't allowed to talk about it because- I don't care at all. I don't either. I don't care. I don't care at all because then don't either. I don't care. Because then I had a lot of people reaching out that were like, I actually liked that you guys talked about that. You talk about whatever you fucking want to talk about. Because it's our show.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Literally. It's our show. Before I make this point, I just want to say quickly- Quickly. That people judge the Falcon and the Winter Soldier too early. It ends really strong. Okay. And Anthony Mackie, y'all know what happened at the end of the series, and that is huge,
Starting point is 00:53:10 which is, spoiler alert, skip 15 seconds, he becomes Captain America. Yes, I heard that. So, and also, Sebastian Stan, outside of being Sebastian Stan looks wise that man can act his ass off oh my god he's so good should have gotten more recognition for I, Tonya I would 100% agree yeah that's so true
Starting point is 00:53:35 I would 100% agree they had great chemistry they were so good and I think that he was so good in the part and blended in so much because he's not showy and so he's just so good in that part and blended in so much with like, because he's not showy. Right. And so he's just so good in that movie. And I was like, why am I attracted to Jeff Galooly on this day?
Starting point is 00:53:51 Yeah. And it was because it was Sebastian Stan. And there's a moment in the last episode and throughout the show where he truly kills it. I love him. Cool. But the moment of Bowen saying under his breath I was like that was the moment in WandaVision where they're looking over their twin babies
Starting point is 00:54:11 and she turns to Monica Rambeau and Elizabeth Olsen said I had a twin chilling and then Monica goes he was killed by Ultron wasn't he and she said what did you say? What did you say?
Starting point is 00:54:26 Oh, Wanda. Things started to get tense. Things started to get very tense. Things changed. Things changed. Oh, my God. But you dropped in and you said that, and it was so revealing. And in Elizabeth, you're comparing me to Elizabeth Olsen?
Starting point is 00:54:40 Is not a higher compliment in the book. Truly, truly, truly. Wow, weren't we so impressed? My favorite actors in the world are Elizabeth Olsen and Sebastian Stan. I just did. I'm not kidding. That's great. I would love to see them in a movie, just the two of them.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Like we're there. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm not talking Avengers. I'm talking like a big, just the two of them. I'm talking a big, just the two of them. I'm talking, I'm not talking the Avengers. I'm talking a big movie.
Starting point is 00:55:03 But I mean like, you know, big acting, I guess. Big acting. Just the two of them. Just the two of them. But I'm telling you, that's why I love these new Disney series is because the Disney of it all, the Marvel of it all, which are so like bang, boom, bong. Yeah. They're giving the girls opportunities to act scenes. To really act.
Starting point is 00:55:19 I know. And if they choose to take that, they can, like, you know what you're talking about with the beginning of Jurassic Park? Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Okay, so you can either choose to take that opportunity to fucking act, or you can just phone it in. Yes. And they are taking the opportunity. Wow.
Starting point is 00:55:35 A hundred percent. You can either be Laura Dern. Yes. Looking up at the dinosaurs in wonder and giving you the fantasy. Or? Or you can be. We're not naming names. Oh, we're not naming names. I don't know if I can name names. Or you can be one We're not naming names. Oh, we're not naming names.
Starting point is 00:55:45 I don't know if I can name names. Or you can be one of the girls in the pre-show today who was reading off of cards. Oh. We're not going to say which. Yeah. We're not going to say which. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Let's talk about League of Their Own. Okay. Yeah. Because this is a show. We've got to get into some business. I know, but I like can't believe time is passing right now. I just want to stay here forever. Is it? No, I'm not even looking. I just mean like. I haven't looked. I have this. Yeah know, but I like can't believe time is passing right now. I just want to stay here forever. Is it?
Starting point is 00:56:06 No, I'm not even looking. I just mean like, I haven't looked. I have this. Yeah, no, I just, I want to just stay here forever. I don't think we have to leave. I don't think there's any rush.
Starting point is 00:56:14 Wait, Doug, how far along are we? How many minutes has it been? 45? Oh, come on. Come on. We have hours to go. We're going to trim that. All right, so on. Come on. We have hours to go. We're going to trim that. All right.
Starting point is 00:56:27 So this is the deal. League of Their Own. Yeah. It's been shot as a show. Yeah. Well, we shot the pilot. You know that that's it. What?
Starting point is 00:56:39 That's it. I feel like such a dumbass I should have looked into this. No, no, no. No, wait. Sorry. Let me take that back. Take it back beep beep beep
Starting point is 00:56:47 we shot the pilot right before pandemic yes right but we are shooting the rest of this season okay so is that yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:56:53 is it on the books I leave for Pittsburgh in a month honey oh my god summer in Pittsburgh actually cute that's kind of what we've heard I don't know much about Pittsburgh
Starting point is 00:57:04 but I keep hearing actually cute. Well, I don't mean to say that in a very patronizing way, but it's like, that's actually a great way to spend. I'm saying that's a great way for you to spend your summer. Yeah. And I'm excited. We're all excited. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:57:14 Oh my god. Well, why wouldn't you be? I mean, for me, it's just like that cast. And we had Kate Berlant on. We had her on a few weeks ago, and she's literally on it. Can you? Yeah, she's literally on it. I, too, was under the impression that it was like all shot, but we know we're going back to shoot the rest we're shooting the rest i know i made
Starting point is 00:57:28 that i made that seem like we only shot the pilot i mean jamie babbitt directed jamie babbitt amazing amazing amazing love her yeah it was really wonderful it was like it feels like a lifetime ago pre-covid but we um we played baseball together for like four months from November to February. We played baseball together a few times a week. We'd go to the batting cages. We kind of fell in love like a team, you know, like a sports team or something. Yeah, for sure. And then when we had to shoot, it was almost like, oh yeah, we also are acting on a show.
Starting point is 00:58:03 You know what I mean? You get to wear the period costumes oh we wear period costumes period hair period lips well i mean we saw the photo of you and it was shocking the red hair and lips it was it was truly like wow like glam moment of the year it was like it was like truly a moment you're cute it was really it was really really really fun oh my god it was fun Are you good at baseball? Would you kill me if I said yes? No.
Starting point is 00:58:29 We would actually give you life breathing back into your nostrils. I am good at baseball, and I've always been. Since the day I picked up a bat when I was, like, six years old. I want to know what your skills are. How would you rate yourselves in sort of the five key areas, which are, like, I mean, we can say batting in terms of getting on base, batting in terms of power, defense, speed and agility, and let's say endurance in terms of like, you know. I'm going to sort of touch on all those. Okay. She's a heavy hitter.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Great. Okay. She's got power on the bat. Great. She has precision when it comes to throwing. Amazing. She's going to catch the ball. She's got a good arm and she's going power on the bat great great she has precision when it comes to throwing amazing she's gonna catch the ball she's got a good arm and she's gonna catch the ball she's gonna catch the ball and she's got a good arm does she run fast she don't right you're a power hitter she's a power hitter okay and she's um she runs with gumption and and yeah uh and um
Starting point is 00:59:21 life you know what i mean so in the batting order, were we talking three spot, four spot, five spot? Of course. Probably three or four. Three or four? Yeah. Wow. Sorry. That's where you want to be.
Starting point is 00:59:31 Okay. And she plays first base. There we go. We don't need speed on first base. We don't need speed on first base. We just need to be able to catch the ball. But also, she's not like, dun-da-dun-da-dun.
Starting point is 00:59:41 She's getting there. But they're not like, who's going to win the race right right right we're not we're not putting we're not taking someone off second base to run you exactly what is that called like like pitch running or something whatever yeah we're not doing that but she's oh also here's what else she has She has the confidence to steal a base. There we go. Okay? Because guess what?
Starting point is 01:00:07 That's all it takes is confidence. Yeah. And I want you. It's all about gumption. It's all about gumption. And you little baseball players listening at home, just remember. Which they're out there. I know.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Just remember, you can steal the base. You're going to freak them out by even trying. And they're probably going to not catch it. Honestly, a non-fast person on the – Freak them out. So if you're a non-fast person on first base – On Facebook. They're not looking for you to steal the base.
Starting point is 01:00:32 That's right. So take a little – take your lead. Take a little doobie-doobie-doo. Just understand. Know your technique. Know your technique. On how to get back to the base and also how to move. Know when during the windup you got to go.
Starting point is 01:00:43 Exactly. And don't be fooled don't you dare be fooled don't go too far because if they throw it back and you get out because you were leading off too far kill yourself yeah you'll be you know what you know what you you tried it and also you know who might be a flop the catch catcher. Thank you. Usually might. The catcher might not be able to make that throw from the home plate to second base. Because this is complicated. And a pitcher so far up its own ass, it's probably not even going to be aware that you're trying to steal. All I'm saying, little baseball players, is steal.
Starting point is 01:01:17 Because the pitchers, they have egos. Have the confidence. Anyway, yeah, I love baseball. You're talking to someone who was the stolen base leader in my league. I believe that. So I was not a powerful hitter, but I could get on base. In fact, I was like sort of a bunt assassin. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 01:01:31 And so I would always, always – I had a very high batting average, and I was the stolen base king. I really, really, really see this for you. And I was a center fielder, and I was a very good defensive center fielder. Great. That's great. Yeah. I really love it. Nothing – I have nothing to add. I'm just, I'm just really. It's a funny thing to like, to play,
Starting point is 01:01:48 you know, you play sports in school because you're sort of like forced into it. And some, some is great. Some you connect with, some you hate or whatever.
Starting point is 01:01:57 But then you kind of just stop. And I mean, clearly there are athletes out there that are, that's what their job is. But most of us, you kind of just stop. And it was really fun to like get back into it this hard where it was like wake up at like
Starting point is 01:02:08 practice at seven that is so cool i can't even say i think i think that like that would be something i'd be really interested in actually is like doing a baseball league yeah yeah yeah oh you mean like just like an i was gonna say after school after school after school like after i'm done with school wait i mean you you can and. I'm sure there's like gays out here in LA that are playing baseball. Are you kidding me? There absolutely are. And also like some show you're going to be on or write for will have like their, you know, like Brooklyn Nine-Nine has a team. Oh, that's so cool.
Starting point is 01:02:36 Yeah, you're playing. When the world comes back, which it is any day, you're playing baseball. I'm playing. I'm playing for the team. And I'll play with you. Honestly, I would relish the opportunity. You know what I would do to you like if i was on first base and darcy was playing first base and i was gonna steal a base i this shit talk would be unprecedented
Starting point is 01:02:52 you would feel like shit one time i left that base to go steal but you'd also kind of wink at me yeah for sure i mean afterwards we would we would we would like we would so hug yeah yeah we would so hug your fist bump but it's really We would so hug. We would fist bump. But it's really – you guys are going to love this show. His jaw is on the floor. He's like – he can't believe the sports. Yeah. I can't believe the sports. But it's not just sports.
Starting point is 01:03:12 It's also like – you know, it's also – you guys are going to love it. I don't really know what to say. That's fine. Yeah. It's – you know, we – I'm really happy with it. It's just a perfect – it's the perfect thing to revisit because it's a perfect movie it's an exciting thing to revisit
Starting point is 01:03:30 because it's a show and it's serialized the world who doesn't want to return to the world it's not quite so white and it's not quite so very straight it better not be it's really been,
Starting point is 01:03:46 I just am loving these scripts and I'm really proud of the writers and I just can't wait to dive in. Head first into Home Base. Fearless. Jamie Babbitt, if Jamie Babbitt's directing, it's gonna get a little gay.
Starting point is 01:03:58 Thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm saying. I'm sure that we're gonna have two women kiss on a league of their own I don't know if we have any straight kisses on a league of their own because think about what the reality of that
Starting point is 01:04:13 was though it was these girls who wanted to play baseball really badly and what do you think that comes with it comes with sapphic desire I mean whatever this is not new yeah and back in the 40s I mean whatever this is not new information but like
Starting point is 01:04:27 in the 40s you know what was allowed nothing was allowed and guess what baby everybody's gay everybody's gay everybody's gay deep down and it's so frustrating sometimes to know that because you think it gives you sort of an edge but no and then you
Starting point is 01:04:43 realize everyone's gay and hiding it. Right, right. Even The Bachelor is gay. That's the truth. If you're watching The Bachelor, he's gay. Yes. And then actually, the fact that The Bachelor is gay, I'm sorry, it makes it less interesting to be gay.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Yes, it does. It takes away some of the sparkle. One of the most corporate things you could be. It's actually unfortunate. It's actually unfortunate. It makes gay ABC. Yes. Yeah, Disney. It's actually unfortunate. It makes gay ABC. Yes. Yeah, it does. It makes gay Disney.
Starting point is 01:05:10 So you know what the next move is? Be straight. Be straight? And I think I'm starting it on this episode being like, I'm gonna steal the bag and talk shit to you. Wait, what about the people, what about those of us who like, the sports just don't stick. Because I wish that like there was something that kind of –
Starting point is 01:05:29 Nothing at all? Nothing. But like I guess what I want to say is who cares, right? Like what do you miss? What are you missing? Actually, if I were the sport-playing type, even sort of extracurricular, after school, I would spend less time thinking about bullshit that I do every single day. And do you mean like at this stage in your life or when you were a kid or what? Both.
Starting point is 01:05:56 Both. Both. Oh, my God. We need to find the right thing for you, though, because here's the thing. Bowen is actually very strong yeah and his calves are very strong so i'm what like maybe like soccer yeah oh yeah but also it maybe isn't just like a typical sport baseball football basketball soccer maybe it's something like racquetball maybe it's something like a goddamn dance class or like a you know what i mean maybe it's something that is the feel
Starting point is 01:06:21 also maybe it's i was literally about Also, maybe it's, I was literally about to say, maybe it's improv. That's what I wanted to say. That's what he did in high school instead of sports. Totally. And so I would have killed. We didn't even have that. No, same. We didn't have that.
Starting point is 01:06:34 No, but we, like, you want the, I mean, of course, like physical activity is fun, but what we really desire is the team. Is the team. But like,
Starting point is 01:06:42 you seem like someone who is very plugged into the sports world. Like, you're the tennis type? No, I'm not. I'm not. Okay. Is the team. But you seem like someone who is very plugged into the sports world. Like, you're the tennis type? No, I'm not. I'm not. Okay, okay. BSJ is.
Starting point is 01:06:51 That's her sister. That's my sister. Brandon Scott Jones is the tennis fucking type. I mean, that person is a tennis head. I mean, I worked with Michael Showalter and I brought BSJ up and the first thing he said was, my tennis buddy.
Starting point is 01:07:05 Yeah, that's right. They play tennis multiple times a week. They play tennis like all the time and I was like, I heard he's a real competitor. He's like,
Starting point is 01:07:10 oh, this competition is very fierce. He literally competes. Yeah, he's great. I wish I was a tenniser. I don't think I've ever stepped foot on a tennis court. It's actually so much harder
Starting point is 01:07:19 than you think it's going to be. It's unbelievably hard. I could see you being really good at tennis. I played it in high school. Okay. Was on JV. Okay, so what? No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:07:26 He's a liar. You're a liar. Let me finish. Let me finish. Flops. Flops. The first, I had played it freshman year.
Starting point is 01:07:33 Yes. We had to play into the ladder. I don't know what it's called. Last place. Last place in the entire group. Well, sometimes a part of playing
Starting point is 01:07:42 is coming in last place. Thank you. Of course, but I was just immediately like, I'm not interested in this. I just saw Hello Dolly performed at my high school. I was like, I want to do that. Get me in there. And also, you know, tennis is a more solo sport.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Maybe you were craving that ensemble, that team. I love a team. I fucking love a team. And maybe that's why we did, I don't know, improv instead of stand-up, perhaps? Yeah, maybe, maybe. I think that it honestly made me feel comfortable when I got into sketch in college. I think because I was used to working with people, but also it was like sketch writing was like an individual sport. And like then sketch acting felt teamish.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Yeah. So I think that, because I was like a track kid. Yeah, kid. And so we were on a team, but like what you were doing was like for your own thing. But I did love a relay race. Yeah. Oh.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Yeah. I was on my school's four by four. And we loved that. Wow. Jock. Jock. Matt is jock. Matt jock.
Starting point is 01:08:39 Matt jock. And it's not not true. It's also not true. Right, right, right, right, right. It's just true enough, which is all that matters. As long as it's not not true it's also not right right right right it's just true enough which is all that matters as long as it's not an outright lie right i mean i had varsity letters flying out my ass you couldn't have they couldn't all fit no there were so many varsity letters a lot yeah i um here's the real truth i my real sport in high school was water polo.
Starting point is 01:09:05 Oh, that's hot. I played. Water polo. Which you may not have even had at your school. We had at our school and it was actually like the girls who were A, incredibly attractive, but also a little bit queer. Yeah, that's right. A little bit queer.
Starting point is 01:09:19 Yeah, yeah. And we liked to smoke pot. Like it was like, you know, you had to be in shape but like in a different way yeah well the thing about swimming is like it's such a good way to get into shape yeah just being in the water and learning to how to exist in the water and maneuver in the water like will get you in shape and you don't even realize it and also i'll tell you what the girls forget to do when they're in the pool you forget to hydrate because you think i'm in the water i don't need to sit no you're sweating so much more than you realize.
Starting point is 01:09:45 So that's actually a rule of culture. When you're in the water. It's also number 144. When you're in the water, you are sweating so much more than you know. Hydrate. You don't get this on Zoom. You don't get this on Zoom.
Starting point is 01:10:03 It would actually be impossible to arrive there on Zoom. It wouldn't have happened. Couldn't have happened. Honestly, shouldn't have happened. Shouldn't have happened this on Zoom. You don't get this on Zoom. It would actually be impossible to arrive there on Zoom. It wouldn't have happened. Couldn't have happened. Honestly, shouldn't have happened. Shouldn't have happened. On Zoom. And we'll be right back after the break. The Real Housewives of New York City are back for another bite of the Big Apple.
Starting point is 01:10:23 Look who it is. Joined by elite new friends. Rebecca Minkoff. Have you ever heard of her? But things could change in a New York Minute. She had this wild night and ended up getting pregnant by some other guy. What? You've told her?
Starting point is 01:10:38 Not today, Satan. Not today. The Real Housewives of New York City. All new Tuesdays at 9 on Bravo or stream it on City TV+. I felt too seen. Dragged. I'm N.K. and this is Basket Case. So I basically had what back in the day they would call a nervous breakdown.
Starting point is 01:11:02 I was crying and I was inconsolable. It was just very big, sudden swaps of different meds. What is wrong with me? Oh, look at you giving me therapy, girl. Finally, a show for the mentally ill girlies. On Basket Case, I talk to people about what happens when what we call mental health is shaped by the conditions of the world we live in. Because if you haven't noticed,
Starting point is 01:11:27 we are experiencing some kind of conditions that are pretty hard to live with. But if you struggle to cope, the society that created the conditions in the first place will tell you there's something wrong with you. And it will call you a basket case. Listen to Basket Case every Tuesday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 01:11:46 you get your podcasts. This week, Charlamagne Tha God sits down with Vice President Kamala Harris for a conversation you don't want to miss. Listen, I feel very strongly I need to earn every vote, which is why I'm here having this candid conversation with you and your listeners. They tackle the big questions, politics, policy, and what's next for the country. I am running to be president for everybody, but I am clear-eyed about the history and the disparities that exist for specific communities,
Starting point is 01:12:14 and I'm not going to shy away from that. Don't miss this in-depth interview with Charlemagne Tha God and Vice President Kamala Harris only on The Breakfast Club. Catch the full interview now on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, my little creeps.
Starting point is 01:12:32 It's your favorite ghost host, Teresa. And guess what? Haunting is back, dropping October 22nd, just in time for spooky season. Now I know you've probably been wandering the mortal plane, wondering when I'd be back to fill your ears with deliciously unsettling stories. Well, wonder no more, because we've got a
Starting point is 01:12:51 ghoulishly good lineup ready for you. Let's just say things get a bit extra. We're talking spirits, demons, and the kind of supernatural chaos that'll make your Halloween season complete. You know how much I love this time of year. It's the one time I'm actually on trend.
Starting point is 01:13:08 So grab your pumpkin spice, dust off that Ouija board, just don't call me unless it's urgent, and tune in for new episodes every week. Remember, October 22nd, the veils are thin, the stories are spooky, and your favorite ghost host is back and badder than ever listen to haunting starting on october 22nd on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts but anyway we're back and we went somewhere and i have to say that only someone that is back for their third time as a guest the hat trick really, could throw it a break in that way.
Starting point is 01:13:46 And I don't trust anyone else more to throw it a break. Darcy, one of the few guests to get in there on the rules. Oh, I love the rules. But everyone's able to do it, but no one does it. No one wants to. They revere whatever's going on. They feel they can't get in on the rules of culture. It's like, no, get in on the rules of culture
Starting point is 01:14:06 get in on the rules you mean like making the rule I love it when saying it in unison with us say it in unison make up a rule yeah yeah
Starting point is 01:14:12 and also maybe a reader right now is like shut up and I get that no if you're like shut up then I don't understand if you want Miss Carden to shut up
Starting point is 01:14:20 I don't I got a different podcast for you honey it's called it's called Car Talk. Car Talk. It's called The Daily. The Daily.
Starting point is 01:14:28 If you want people that take themselves, quote unquote, seriously and follow the rules and try to make the, quote unquote, world better. It's called Murder Podcast. It's called Murder Podcast. Now, I would like to bring something up. Okay. Has anyone sort of ventured into the mayor of east town of it all no but i but i am definitely i'm about interested i'm interested yeah i gotta tell you i watched the first episode and i am very excited that kate is here with a full-on researched philly accent
Starting point is 01:15:00 and you know i've heard she did the work because when when her character was supposed to say the word water she said water and i an overdose oh wow happened yeah and i was like this is you know who makes her video it would make sudy green proud yeah wait i want you to ask sudy like i wonder what a Philly person thinks of this accent. So some, I tweeted about this and some people sort of were like, yeah, but you know, there's words where she's falling off. But here's what I'm saying. And I say this with all the love in the world for Kate Winslet, who the second she showed up was creating culture right away. And we have to respect that.
Starting point is 01:15:41 We have to respect that. Sometimes the accent work ain't it we we we can hear little little inconsistencies are accents that important to some people but like she's giving us everything else literally this performance is one of her best of all time and i'm telling you mayor of east town she's giving it and she's got a limp yeah yes we've heard she's got a limp the Mayor of Eastwick is that what it's called
Starting point is 01:16:08 Mayor of Easttown like Marianne but people calling her Mayor okay that's cute Mayor of Easttown I'm telling you very good also got Jean Smart
Starting point is 01:16:16 we're obsessed we're obsessed it has Guy Pearce it's very good and it's got a really good ensemble cast Guy Pearce Memento is that right yes Guy Pearce always good right Guy Pearce yeah It's very good. And it's got a really good ensemble cast. Guy Pearce Memento. Is that right?
Starting point is 01:16:25 Yes. Guy Pearce. Always good, right? Guy Pearce. Yeah. And a Winslet fave. They were in Mildred Pierce together. Okay.
Starting point is 01:16:31 Okay. Okay. Okay. Ever heard of your last name is also the name of the title? Hello. A dream. One of the dreams. One of everybody's dreams.
Starting point is 01:16:39 One of every. Mildred Carden. Mildred Rogers. Mildred Yang. We should be so lucky. Mildred Yang. I want to know herildred Yang we would all we should be so lucky Mildred Yang I want to know her I want to know her too
Starting point is 01:16:48 I want to know her wait can I do what I think is probably a not well thought through impression of of Kate Winslet winning an award go
Starting point is 01:16:55 yes I'll tell you what it really is it's like a performative oh my god this is amazing gather gather remember when she won the Golden Globe and she kept saying to herself out loud gather I'll tell you what it really is. It's like a performative, oh my God. This is amazing. Gather, gather. Remember when she won the Golden Globe and she kept saying to herself out loud, gather, gather.
Starting point is 01:17:13 I do feel like she might be super competitive. Like that might be a side of her. She's probably intense. Yeah. An intense person. Like really wants to win. Well, she went for so long without winning. Right, right, right. But I do feel like there's a, whether she's done the like fist,
Starting point is 01:17:26 you know, what is this called? Fist pump. The fist pump. Fist pump. Jovial, triumphant fist pump. Whether she's actually done that or not, I feel it from her. It's like, God, fuck yes. It's her essence.
Starting point is 01:17:34 Yeah. Yeah. God, this just reminds me, and we're so happy. And we're so happy. About the results of the Oscars. But to know that Glenn has lost an eighth time. You know, your heart just goes out.
Starting point is 01:17:49 I know. That's awful. Well, because like she. I don't even love Glenn Close that much. But to have that be like, why does that? Like that becomes your legacy is that you've like lost eight Oscars. It just hurts. I know.
Starting point is 01:18:02 It hurts. And the thing is like you pretty much look at every time she's lost and the person that's won and you're kind of like yeah yeah remember when bo and yang was like and i don't even like glenn close that much i said i don't love glenn close and the thing about glenn close is like it's she's always so good so good but so good. But like, yeah, I mean, I tried to watch 101 Dalmatians again thinking this is the move. It wasn't. She's insane.
Starting point is 01:18:32 She's so cuckoo in the movie. But I will say, this Emma Stone Cruella, sign me up. Sign me the hell up. Kirby, Howl, Baptiste. Yes! We saw her in the trailer.
Starting point is 01:18:43 We had to grab each other we were like curbs so happy let me watch her on any screen any size Apple Watch to fucking IMAX yes I want her on the smallest screen
Starting point is 01:18:55 I would even watch her on a Quibi revival oh a Roku original the smallest Quibi screen you could ever imagine and they were such small screens they couldn't have been smaller and the episodes were such screen you could ever imagine and they were such small screens they couldn't have been smaller the episodes were such quick bites
Starting point is 01:19:08 could you imagine chomp chomp chomp oh Quibi Quibi oh the quick bite that was Quibi's existence alright P
Starting point is 01:19:15 we're still thinking about you we couldn't love you sis we can't stop thinking about you Quibi but wow and I will say this I think I said this to you if the Joker
Starting point is 01:19:23 can be an Oscar winning role there's no reason Cruella can't be an oscar-winning role there's no reason cruella can't be an oscar-winning role oh yeah i mean fuck the patriarchy that's what that is i'm maybe serious there's no reason cat woman isn't an oscar-winning role interesting interesting you're such a king i'm not i'm just saying no you are thinking yeah everybody's thinking it and nobody's saying it. They're not saying it out loud. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:19:50 They might be saying it under their breath at small gatherings. Universal Studios in line. Darcy, what are you consuming? What are you watching? Tell us. What's on your mind culturally? Tell us now. Tell us now. I feel like I'm watching every damn thing.
Starting point is 01:20:02 Well, I'm not mayor of Easttown. Yeah, I know. I know. Not the mayor of East town of east town the mayor of the east i i feel like i've i've watched everything that has ever existed i've watched more tv in the last blank blank blank than i've ever in my life but why am i watching the circle right okay so so am i i'm obsessed and new episodes are out tomorrow okay Okay, thank God. Or aka today.
Starting point is 01:20:27 What do we, aka today, what do we think of Netflix not just dropping them all at once? I think they're teasing out a good thing. I guess it's probably good, right?
Starting point is 01:20:33 I think they're teasing the girls and I think I'm edging harder than I've ever edged in my life. They're teasing the girls in what way? Is it a different format
Starting point is 01:20:41 this season? Same format? But like usually Netflix, I believe, drops it all in just one chunk and they're giving us three a week. this season? Same format. But like usually Netflix, I believe, drops it all in just one chunk. And they're giving us three a week. It's wild. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:49 I fell off the first season after four episodes. As you maybe should. It's not great. It's sort of an awkward show. Yeah. Well, there's the thing of like. But they reel you in, right? I'm so into this one.
Starting point is 01:21:02 I'm watching for Michelle Buteau solelyeau solely yes she's so funny on it and you see her and you're just like give me more a hundred percent that's her thing is like i do want more of her on the show but it's because it's really a voiceover gig like she essentially slayed booking this because it's essentially a voiceover gig and then she does the reunion yeah and in the voiceover gig makes me laugh oh you're laughing out loud how dare she yeah it's essentially a voiceover gig and then she does the reunion. Yeah. And in the voiceover gig makes me laugh. Oh, you're laughing out loud. How dare she? Yeah, it's Michelle.
Starting point is 01:21:29 She's so funny. But basically, like, there's some twists on the way they do things this year in the way that's like a twist that makes you laugh out loud because it's so stupid. Right. Like one of the women that went on the show was playing Lance Bass. She's like, he's my boss. I'm his personal assistant. And so she's like. She's playing him? She's playing him
Starting point is 01:21:47 tanking. You can catfish on this show. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's basically like a social media show. Right, right, right. So she's playing him. She is his personal assistant in real life, and she's like, I know every damn thing about him. I'm gonna kill, and she is not killing. The first thing she does is they're like, so Lance...
Starting point is 01:22:04 Because they all know him, and they're like, so Lance, because they all know him. And they're like, so Lance, you're like rich and famous. Why are you competing for $100,000? And you can tell she's just like, it's for charity. And then maybe they would have respected that and played the game with him. But she made a joke that, of course, didn't read because it's a text. But she goes, oh, this is going to be funny. She's like, oh, this will be funny.
Starting point is 01:22:20 And the joke was like, oh, I'm making money for, I'm like saving up money for an NSYNC reunion tour. And they all read it and they were like, oh I'm making money I'm like saving up money for an NSYNC reunion tour and they all read it and they were like oh that sucks and she's like I bet they're laughing right now she was like
Starting point is 01:22:32 they're laughing they get that it's a joke and not a soul of these basic people on the show were like thinking it's a joke they were all like
Starting point is 01:22:38 I don't like that they were like I don't like that because he's got enough money for the tour and he should really donate it to charity and meanwhile she's like fuck yes I'm killing like that because he's got enough money for the tour and he should really donate it to charity.
Starting point is 01:22:46 And meanwhile, she's like, fuck. She's like, hell yeah, dude. Like cracking open Bud Light Limerita. Truly, Limerita. That's the energy she gives me. For sure, for sure. Bud Light Limerita energy. She's always like, oh, I'm doing so good. Yeah, it's not like, yeah, it's very fun to watch.
Starting point is 01:23:00 But I'm kind of like giving myself over to more reality TV lately. 100%. Yeah, just kind of like what, over to more reality TV lately. 100%. Yeah. Just kind of like what, you know, give me the good with the bad. Yeah. I went back to- You would love The Circle, though. Yes.
Starting point is 01:23:11 I will watch this season. Because you love like, I feel like you're in that same zone where it's like you need things to turn on to turn your brain off. Yes. That's this. Okay. This is how lame I am right now. We go.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Okay. Because of The Circle, one of the, I was okay because of the circle one of the one of the i was about to say actors one of the characters on the circle is this british girl named chloe okay who who she's from too hot to handle did you watch too hot to handle uh no but i i'm familiar she's on that here's the thing i'm i this is where my brain is right now i finished the circle and was like i want to watch the next episode damn there it's not till next week well i Well, I guess I'll start Too Hot to Handle that came out a year ago. Because you couldn't get enough of Chloe. I couldn't get enough of Chloe.
Starting point is 01:23:49 Yeah. So right now I'm literally, when I go home tonight, I will probably watch an episode of last year's Too Hot to Handle. Some of the hottest men in the world are on it. Just the horniest show. The guys Harry and David. Well, isn't that Fruit and Nuts? Fruit and Nuts? Fruit and Nuts? Harry and David? Harry and David? Harry and David? Harry and David? Well, isn't that Fruit and Nuts? Fruit and Nuts? Fruit and Nuts?
Starting point is 01:24:05 Harry and David? Harry and David? Harry David? Harry and David? No. Wait, you guys. What are you talking about? Isn't that...
Starting point is 01:24:11 What are you talking about? I gotta go. I want to say that there's like a Fruit and Nuts company called Harry and David. You're almost 100% right, but I'm only talking about the hot men on this show. Yes, and that also. Whose names are Harry and David. David Bertwistle is the name of one of the guys on this show. He's the hottest man I've ever seen. And every single time he posts on Instagram, I have to like it.
Starting point is 01:24:33 Wait, is he the British guy? He's the British guy. Yeah, he's great. And then there's one Australian guy named Harry. Harry, of course. Who has an OnlyFans. Okay, so what does that mean? Does he show his wiener?
Starting point is 01:24:43 He shows his wiener. He shows it all. Oh, wow. Is that really, wiener he shows his wiener he shows it all oh wow is that really really true he shows his whole hog ugh hog ass
Starting point is 01:24:51 a lot of times he's met her bending over for the camera wow oh my god it's only fans he gay no he not
Starting point is 01:24:58 not yet but maybe I mean maybe I think that if bachelor can be gay yeah I did I wanted I wanted
Starting point is 01:25:05 I don't know these guys have a little bit of like straight man head but if that makes sense like they were born to be like I can only be straight but I was like
Starting point is 01:25:13 yeah chill out a little guys yeah test the waters but they're on a reality show that's a lot about them being hot yeah exactly and so it's like
Starting point is 01:25:21 it's a little gay it's a little gay I just wanted them to like take some moali and chill out with each other you know yeah because if you're on a show
Starting point is 01:25:29 that's about being hot it's like the people are watching are gonna be the women but also the gay men that's who's watching yeah
Starting point is 01:25:37 and you can tell on this one guy's only fans because I do I do subscribe and I do subscribe he's like hi my little chickadees. And he's talking to, you can tell he's talking to men and women.
Starting point is 01:25:48 He knows. He knows he's got a gay fan base. And that actually is tough for me lately. And I'm going to say something a little bit controversial. Okay. I don't know about all the queer baiting and queer performance that's happening from straight men or men that are like like not not not saying what their sexuality is but like they're always seen dating women yes i'm not really talking about harry styles because i think it's cool with harry styles because he like walks
Starting point is 01:26:16 the walk and like he's like fully doing the performance but like whenever i see a straight man just in a dress now like for a photo shoot or whatever, I'm kind of like, I don't know. I feel like, yes, let's take away the stigma about what everyone's wearing, like clothes are clothes, like gender is, you know, fluid, whatever. But when it's like a very straight person or straight acting person and they're in a dress, I'm kind of just like, why? Like, are you or did you want to do this?
Starting point is 01:26:46 Or what is this for? It's like, what's frustrating is that it's like a mutable thing for them that they can turn it on, and then they go back to being, like, comfortably hetero or, like, signal that they're straight. I haven't, I don't think so, honey, about this. About? About straight. About straight. I don't think so honey about this. About, about, about straight.
Starting point is 01:27:07 About straight. I don't think so honey, straight is a great, I don't think so honey. It's basically what this podcast is. I don't think so honey, straight. This podcast is basically
Starting point is 01:27:17 I don't think so honey, straight. Rename it. Yeah. Let's do it. One of these days. You know what? I think that's,
Starting point is 01:27:22 I think we got it. I think we got it. Rename it. That's what it is. All right. Where are we at right now? Can I ask? Can I ask?
Starting point is 01:27:30 One hour and 20 minutes. So this is the point where, this is the point in the show, the sort of hashtag point in the show. Yeah, hashtag point. Where we transition to I don't think so, honey. Okay. And I don't think so, honey is one minute where we absolutely rail against culture and say what we don't think about it yeah say that say that with a hard t saying it
Starting point is 01:27:55 saying it yeah that way we rail against we rail now the thing about rant rant and real rant all of it yeah the thing about i don't think rant and rail all of it the thing about I Don't Think So Honey that we've sort of discovered is that you have to start I Don't Think So Honey a little early because you have to allow for conversation
Starting point is 01:28:11 that I Don't Think So Honey provokes because we only have people on the show that are thought provoking and smart and that's start a fire that's right
Starting point is 01:28:19 that's right and you don't want to you don't want to go three minutes I Don't Think So Honey one minute two minutes three minutes and that's our show so, honey. One minute, two minutes, three minutes. And that's our show.
Starting point is 01:28:27 What are we? This is not our first episode, fool. No. We've done this. This is not how things are done. You bet your bottom doll hair that we're going to talk about. We're going to follow up on the points that were made. That's right.
Starting point is 01:28:42 Okay. You bet your bottom doll's hair. You bet your bottom doll hair. I You bet your bottom doll's hair. I do love doll hair jokes. I love doll hair. Let's always say doll hair. You bet your bottom doll hair. Okay, rule of culture. Wait, wait, wait. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:28:55 Rule of culture number 179. If you're saying doll hair instead of doll hair, electric chair. Pretty good. Pretty good. 179?
Starting point is 01:29:10 If you're saying dollar instead of doll hair electric chair. Now the readers are never going to say dollar again. And if they do they should turn over their shoulder and know that they're being watched.
Starting point is 01:29:22 We're right behind them with a very large chair. Yeah. Plugged in. Yeah. 100%. 100%. Now, I have one.
Starting point is 01:29:30 You have one. Okay, great. And I, yeah, I have one. Okay. Oh, my God. Do you guys feel how huge this is? To do one in the room together? In the room together?
Starting point is 01:29:42 Oh, my God. God. This is Matt Rogers' I Don't Think So Honey and his time starts now. I Don't Think So Honey Governor Caitlyn Jenner. Oh yes.
Starting point is 01:29:51 Okay so this can't happen. No but it might. Here's the deal. She's an unprecedented bad person. We cannot be having her run the government. If there was gonna be
Starting point is 01:30:01 a member of the Jenner family nay a Jenner parent who was gonna run California it should be Chris because we know she can run an economy. Oh. Let to be a member of the Jenner family, nay, a Jenner parent, who was going to run California, it should be Kris because we know she can run an economy. Let me tell you about Caitlyn Jenner. The only thing she can run is her goddamn mouth. And she's saying things like this. I like Trump.
Starting point is 01:30:15 And that was a Caitlyn Jenner impression. That was fine. She has a lot of people from the Trump campaign on her fucking team. And the only reason she's not a Trumper at this point is because she finally way too late was like, huh, maybe he's not great for trans stuff. So her community needed to be attacked for her to say,
Starting point is 01:30:33 I don't like Trump. This would be bad. I really don't think so, honey. And don't know about this recall of Gavin Newsom, because if he doesn't get over 50% of the vote, the second place person is going to be the governor, no matter if they have a majority or not.
Starting point is 01:30:45 And that could be Caitlyn Jenner. If we've learned nothing from 2016, we're not going to chase her out. I don't think so, honey. And that's one minute. I am nervous about... I know. I know.
Starting point is 01:30:55 Because look, is Gavin not good? 100%. California is in shit shape. Yeah. But we're recalling Gavin Newsom. And the way this works, if you don't know, now you know, is if he doesn't get 50% of people voting for him to stay in office, then the second place person is the governor. That's the way it works. Meanwhile, his election is actually supposed to be next year anyway so i think we should wait because that is
Starting point is 01:31:26 how we end up with either a republican governor or someone like like worse yeah and now randy quaid is saying he wants to run for governor of california so you guys i'm just saying like maybe we could wait one year i know it's a shit show here in california you want to primary some candidates before we get to yes before before we make a huge mistake and end up with someone who if a lot of people announce gets like 20 of the vote that that isn't representing most of california at all or that's just bad i don't know this is how we got arnold schwarzenegger as the governor so this exact situation. The worst case scenario, Gavin Newsom gets 49%. Yes.
Starting point is 01:32:10 And then someone like Caitlyn Jenner gets like 20, let's say, if the pie is split too many ways. Horrible. Yeah. That's exactly the situation. And I just think, remember, that while we don't like Gavin and every time I see him I'm like this guy what does he want to be an actor like the way he presents himself I'm just not about but the
Starting point is 01:32:32 thing is like you might really get like a Caitlyn Jenner type in this situation and we just have to like slow our roll a little bit remember that this started as like a far right like plan of attack against him and it just kind of squirreled out of control to now we're actually doing a recall if there's actually someone who could
Starting point is 01:32:50 become a better governor that's like gonna be up in this recall thing then sure i just maybe have to do my research and don't know about it but the whole thing makes me nervous because remember that we had the u.s president named donald. Hard. And it was hard. So let's not fuck up who is our governor because the state is in bad shape and we can't do worse than we're doing right now and we might. And that's your minute.
Starting point is 01:33:18 And that's your minute. No, no, no. No, that's everything. We are in agreement. Sorry. No, I like to hear this because I have shut down a little bit with this stuff. 100%. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:32 And all you're saying is, like, what I'm hearing is like, oh, no, no, no. You have to stay involved. You have to, like, this is not done. You know, just because we got the villain out, the villains continue. Oh, they don't go away. No, no, no. And I remember, like, that's the thing is it's just like, I feel like we all talked a big game when. we got the villain out the villains continue oh they don't go away no no no and i remember like like that's the thing is it's just like i feel like we all talked a big game when when trump
Starting point is 01:33:50 was president of like we're never going back yeah like once he's out we're all going to be just as engaged and that's already like slipping like i i mean like i was so upset to hear about the news about the census like we lost so many congressional seats and I feel like people need to be reacting to that. You know what I mean? Like it sucks. Like it's already happening, you guys. Like what happened after Obama was elected and then with the midterms elections after that,
Starting point is 01:34:15 we don't want to repeat that. Like that's how we were in the nightmare that we were in. And so I guess that's all I'm saying is just like, keep aware of what's going on because we're not out of the woods in terms of like the grand scheme of things. Like, yes, we have a Democrat in office and like people are getting vaccinated and like the pandemic is quote unquote ending. But it's like, you know, we still have to – we didn't win a war or anything. That's all.
Starting point is 01:34:43 We're not out of the woods. We're not out of the woods. We're not out of the woods. Ooh, Taylor. And that's as poignant as I'm going to get. I liked it. Poignant. Poignance. Poignance.
Starting point is 01:34:55 Bowen, do you have an I Don't Think So Honey? I have one. All right. And it's going to be, we know that it's about straights. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's about something. It's about, okay. That they do.
Starting point is 01:35:04 Ew. Oh, so, and we know they do much. Well. They, yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's about something. It's about, okay. That they do. Ew. Oh, so, man, we know they do much. Well. They can't stop doing. Okay. This is actually Bowen Yang's I Don't Think So, Honey. On the first episode, we're in person again. And it's a meaningful one for me to choose on this occasion.
Starting point is 01:35:20 And Bowen Yang's time starts now. I Don't Think So, Honey. Straight couples who shout across the hall from me i just moved into a new building and i thought thank god i get to escape two straight couple neighbors who get into shouting matches every other fucking day and i can hear them well guess what just moved into a new building, and as I slept my second night in this new home, what do I hear across the hall but a fight about
Starting point is 01:35:50 the guy saying, I asked you if there were California girls there or Jewish East Coast girls there. That was the sentence. I was like, what are we talking about? What is this fight even about? This is this fight even about?
Starting point is 01:36:09 This is the most insignificant thing I've ever... Marriage story looking ass. Closer Mike Nichols looking ass. Kramer versus Kramer looking ass motherfuckers. It's tired. It's a cliche. If you're straight and you're a couple and you're yelling at each other, you're done. You're done. And that's one minute.
Starting point is 01:36:24 That's right. Shut. Shush. Shush. Just shush. You can have a whisper fight like lesbians do. You can have a squealing match like the gays do. But these bellowing fights. Bellowing fights.
Starting point is 01:36:37 Like from their diaphragm, they're yelling at each other. Who do you think you are? And also, whatever happened to repressing what you feel and not telling your partner what's going on inside and slowly simmering over time and resentment? Whatever happened to that? Come on. Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf looking ass? It's so cliche. We've been there.
Starting point is 01:36:55 We've been there. Come up with new IP. Get new IP. Get new IP. We've been saying it. We demand new IP. New IP from the street. We say that as Marvel stans.
Starting point is 01:37:05 Yes. Now, can I say, one of the most jarring things ever had to be hearing nothing and then hearing all of a sudden, what was the sentence? All I said was, were there California girls there or were there Jewish East Coast girls there? Hate this guy. I don't like him. Yeah. I don't like him. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:25 I don't like him. No. Don't like that he was boiling it down to California girls or Jewish East Coast girls. As if. Oh my God. There's so many. I don't even give a fuck. I don't give a fuck.
Starting point is 01:37:37 But what are they even talking about? What's the fight? I don't know. He was concerned about the crowd. He really wanted one or the other, apparently. Why does he want anything get lost you piece of shit he should get lost he should know that as a white straight man we don't care what he wants
Starting point is 01:37:49 we don't want to know but I thought I was like they're everywhere I thought I was going to be able to escape this and like these couples be yelling at each other god I don't know I'm like really I mean like this is the thing about LA for some places
Starting point is 01:38:04 if you live in a home you don't like, really? I mean, like, this is the thing about LA for some places. For if you live in a home, you don't have to deal with it. I mean, maybe you do, but it's like, it's a more avoidable thing. Right, right, right. You mean sharing the walls? Sharing the walls. It's just, it's just more avoidable. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:19 Yeah. That's the thing is it's like, and I feel badly because you just moved into this new apartment and you were so excited about it and then these sort of things befall Bowen you know the people fighting he has neglected to mention
Starting point is 01:38:31 you know he's couchless the couch that he wanted to bring into the house did not fit through the door no and they couldn't take it apart
Starting point is 01:38:37 is that next they couldn't take it apart no and then I didn't know about these couch surgeons who cut it up I was like
Starting point is 01:38:43 you know what how would anyone know about a couch surgeon it cut it up. I was like, you know what? How would anyone know about a couch surgeon? It sounds like it's made up. But even if I knew about the couch surgeon, I'm telling you, and I talked about this with some other people, moving day, you're just – there's no way I'm not having a meltdown. Totally. Never going to be a good thing.
Starting point is 01:38:57 Throwing things away. So quickly. So, yes, I'm already in that mindset where they're like, the movers, God bless them, were like, we can't fit this sofa through the door. And I was like, throw it out. Oh, I bet. Without a second thought, I was just like. Did you like that couch?
Starting point is 01:39:12 Was there any? No, I didn't love it. Great, great, great. I was going to replace it anyway. He actually famously didn't like the couch. We're glad that it's gone. Even though it would be nice to sit your ass on a couch right now. Because couches also famously take so long.
Starting point is 01:39:27 God damned long to get there. And you don't understand why. Months. Months. But they really, I mean, I was without a couch for at least six weeks in my apartment. And then it was like right before the pandemic hit,
Starting point is 01:39:39 the couch came. Can you imagine? Can you thank God? Thank God I had been, can I thank God? Can you please thank God on that? Hey, well Well I just thought Hey
Starting point is 01:39:45 Hey Bowen One thing I'm going to recommend to you Yes Going to a couple places And seeing if they have any Floor models available Yeah Yes
Starting point is 01:39:53 For buy now For buy now Yeah What is it called? Cash and carry Okay Is that what it is? Maybe
Starting point is 01:40:00 I don't even know Could be Sounds right It feels like sometimes The floor model situation Is like the luck of the day. But I've been so lucky. No.
Starting point is 01:40:07 And I've been so lucky. And I've been so lucky. It's not happening at West Elm where I shop for all my stuff. It was like, oh, that's coming in three months. I was so lucky at a West Elm. Were you? Yeah, I was. Wow.
Starting point is 01:40:18 I had this coffee table that I simply fell in love with. And I said, I want this one. And they said, okay, well, this one's going to be three months. That hard to take and i was like for some reason i was like no this is the one and then didn't have one for three months it was like i moved into my apartment in january and i didn't get my couch until like cardboard but it didn't come until like truly june because then the pandemic oh so it was like oh did we say three months we mean indefinitely it's like that moment in the pandemic where it was like yeah we actually don't know how yet to do our jobs. Nobody's in the damn warehouse.
Starting point is 01:40:47 Which was fully understandable. And so, yeah. Three months? How do you plan that far? I mean, it's been done. People do it well. They're about to move into a new place. They bought it.
Starting point is 01:40:59 They buy a new place. And they order the furniture ahead of time that's coming in new. And I'm like, I don't have that foresight with anything in my life and I'm sure thinking that it's quick is so dumb and dare I say privileged
Starting point is 01:41:12 but I'm like I don't understand why it's not tomorrow I honestly don't I'm like I know it's in that damn warehouse why is it gonna take three months yes
Starting point is 01:41:19 what if I drive there what if I pick it up oh my god which I'm willing to do I'll do it I can't express enough I'll do it I want it however I can collaborate on this with you i'm willing to do give me please give me
Starting point is 01:41:29 please give me yeah i ordered a pair of shorts i won't say from what company billabong quick silver it's it's not either one of those and so like that's good yeah you're really throwing them off the set yeah but i ordered a pair of shorts from a company and they took... Tom Ford. A pair of shorts took three months. Who do they think they are? I don't know who they think they are. Wait, what?
Starting point is 01:41:53 Was one little ant sewing the damn pair? It was to the point where it was like, I forgot they were coming. And then like for some reason it popped up like an old email or something. And then you're like, I don't care about that. And I was like, wait, hold on. This was like a full-on stoned purchase. A quarter ago. A quarter ago.
Starting point is 01:42:13 But then you know I sent an email to the company being like, Hi, three months ago I ordered a pair of shorts. It's order number 5787. I would like to know if they're still coming. They came. I didn't even like them. Oh, neat. And then what are you going to do?
Starting point is 01:42:27 Are you a returner? I'll wear them. Okay. Are you a returner? I would rather give them to a stranger than return. I'm so damn, I'm so bad at returning that I just don't shop. Right. Because I can't, I'm a terrible returner.
Starting point is 01:42:42 The idea of packing a box of something that you bought and were like, I don't like this. I think it doesn't make sense. But I think it couldn't be easier. But I've literally... I actually think it's very hard.
Starting point is 01:42:54 Thank you for that. Thank you. It's one of the hardest things. Thank you. It's one of the hardest things. It's one of the hardest things. And that is known. That is known.
Starting point is 01:43:03 I would say, here's the thing. When I receive something in the mail and I take out, and I decide one of two things. A, this doesn't fit me the way I want it to, or B, I don't like this. That should be my end of relationship with the item. Yeah. Like, you want to just give it back to the person that- Or it should just turn to sand.
Starting point is 01:43:19 Turn to dust. There should be a fail-safe button. Yes. There should be a cyanide pill. I'm not doing- Yes. That short should have chomped his own jaw shut,
Starting point is 01:43:27 cyanided his ass and turned to dust. If I don't like this, it shouldn't take up space in my living quarters. Or in a pile in my closet, which it absolutely does, which my husband's like,
Starting point is 01:43:38 what are we doing with this? And I'm like, I'll get to it. Yeah. I'll get to it next year. And I can tell by that voice you're not getting to it. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:43:44 And then my sister comes over and I'm like, you want a of pants y'all go but wait a minute y'all got a clean house a clean house but you're gonna put you have a pile in the closet like a like a clean return pile do you you think i have a clean house i mean you give clean house energy i feel like jason gives clean house energy it's both of you you both give clean house energy house but jason likes a clean house that's so hot it's it's you. You both give clean house energy. I like a clean house, but Jason likes a clean house. That's so hot. It's nice if your partner is a clean one. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:10 I think, right? Yeah, I mean, unless they're not an egg. Unless they are an egg. An egg? A nag. A nag. Unless they are an egg. A nice little shiny.
Starting point is 01:44:22 You know what's been an aggressive thing that a lot of my friends have been doing? Because I have gotten better about this. I used to be kind of a mess and now now that i have my own place like that i like for the first time i say like in quotes um i keep it clean and every one of my friends that i haven't seen in a while that's like coming from new york or whatever they all turn to me and they go i'm really proud of you you're like how bad i'm very proud of you this is not targeted towards how bad was that? I'm very proud of you. This is not targeted towards you. I know. We're talking Suzy. But you are indicative of the kind of person that says that.
Starting point is 01:44:50 Amanda Shackman said this to me. She was like, I have to say I'm really proud of you. And she lived with me for years. That's part of it, right? So she really knows. But it's funny. The growth is a quantum leap. Aw.
Starting point is 01:45:02 It's a quantum leap. Quantum mania? Quantum mania. Ant-Man 3. Oh, my God. Aw. It's a quantum leap. Quantum mania? Quantum mania. Ant-Man 3. Oh my God. Marvel. You absolute Marvel ass head. He's a Marvel ass head.
Starting point is 01:45:11 Jesus. It really is crazy how I am. Wait, does that mean there's like an Ant-Man 2? Yeah. Ant-Man and the Wasp. Oh, the Wasp. The Wasp. The Wasp.
Starting point is 01:45:17 The Wasp. The Wasp. The Wasp. But this boy is going to be cheering in the damn theaters when they open, when we're all packed together. Like, remember like, I, part of, I can't tell if i loved it or if i hated it like watching avengers in the theater and having the boys cheer when like you know you don't realize how much you love it until you can't do it anymore and here's what i'll say fucking someone saved the arc light dear god yeah
Starting point is 01:45:42 like someone saved the arc light like some billionaire would do one good thing with your money like save the arc light like ask elon when you see him like to save the arc light we the arc light needs to be saved yeah it does but i want i don't know why i feel strongly like i want it saved by the right person or by like warren and annette warren and annette what have you guys been doing with your wealth like get together like a Robert Redford type somehow
Starting point is 01:46:08 George Clooney that's who I said first George Clooney it seems like a real George Clooney move to be like oh I got this like oh honey I got this
Starting point is 01:46:15 let this be what bonds Brad and Angelina again you know what I mean rom-com that's what I'm saying a big movie so you were saying
Starting point is 01:46:24 that you don't know if you liked that moment in, in the, the movie theater, the event. Yeah. Of cheering when, you know, you had,
Starting point is 01:46:32 but you might miss it when, when like this actor, this tertiary character from this thing shows up and you're like, wait, who is that? I love it. I do too. I love a cameo.
Starting point is 01:46:40 I, yeah. I, would you like to clap when somebody walks on stage? Whenever anyone comes out, like, and I'm like, I'm like, I wasn't expecting this either. I'm like, hell yeah. I know.
Starting point is 01:46:48 In Falcon and Winter Soldier, spoiler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in it. I saw. Countess. I was clapping my hands together. Why did I just call her Countess? Countess. She plays someone insane like Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Like something insane.
Starting point is 01:47:03 And she says her name. And she's so funny that when she says her name, you laugh. Even though she's simply saying her name. She's just saying her name. I watched it too. She has a blue streak in her hair. I'm not to be such a damn jock again, but I've seen almost every Avengers movie in the theater. Wait, I said Avengers, but I mean Marvel.
Starting point is 01:47:22 Marvel. Are you sopping wet for Black Widow? Yeah, I am. Oh my God, me too. Drip. Drip. I want to see Scarlet kill a man bad.
Starting point is 01:47:32 Yeah, of course we do. I just want to see Florence and Scarlet jumping out of a plane. Rachel. For Florence to be MCU. Rachel. Give me Rachel.
Starting point is 01:47:39 Wait, give me Rachel and David Harbour. We stand. We love David. You know who's MCU? Who? The Queen of Pop. Ha David. You know who's MCU? Who? The queen of pop. Hailee Steinfeld?
Starting point is 01:47:49 Hailee Steinfeld is MCU. She's the queen of pop. Queen of pop. Queen of pop. As far as we're concerned, she's the queen of pop. If you listen to one Hailee song, it'll be very clear. No, I know. I like the one.
Starting point is 01:47:59 Okay, let me just think. She's like, I touch myself. Gonna love myself. That's a great song. That's a great song. I don't know why it's in this Muppet Mickey Mouse voice. That's a great song. One of the best songs of all time. She's great.
Starting point is 01:48:10 That's why she's the queen of pop. She's great. She's absolutely great. Capital letters? Capital letters. I probably know it. Damn, you're such a. Once you leave the building, you are cleared to listen to the queen of pop, Haley Steinfeld.
Starting point is 01:48:20 An Oscar nominee. Okay, lest we forget. Lest we forget. She had true grit in that film. She did, and she did. She's MCU. She's gonna be Hawkeye. Great, she should be. Taking over for Renner?
Starting point is 01:48:32 Honey. Okay. I wanna be MCU. I wanna be MCU so bad. You will be. Both of you will be. Wait. You guys will both be.
Starting point is 01:48:42 It's something that is such a... It would be so floppy. Flop some in Jepson MCU. Girl, I'm saying. The way that they didn't cast us is flops in Jepson. I know. It's so disrespectful. So disrespectful.
Starting point is 01:48:54 It's disrespectful. This is the most shallow career aspiration I have. I want to be like legit MCU. Same. I don't want to be like, you know, like Spider-Man's cousin. Right, right, right. You want to be a superhero. Yes. No, I want to be like you know like like spider-man's cousin or anything i want to be a superhero yes yeah i want to spin off series yeah and do you want to get absolutely fucking jacked uh literally i'm willing to and i'm just putting this out there i'm willing to change what i look like for mcu i'm not kidding i will will come mail it. If they said, Matt, we will, Kevin Feige herself said, Matt, I can make you an MCU star if
Starting point is 01:49:32 you give up the jumpsuit. I would say, let's burn it right now in your office. I was like, I would do this. See what I'm doing? Yeah. Like, I would touch the fabric and shake it. I'd say, this means nothing to me. I would point to his heart. I would say, touch the fabric and shake it and I'd say this means nothing to me I would point to his heart
Starting point is 01:49:46 I would say you mean everything to me and you'd go okay you got yourself a job 100% that's cool I'm telling you
Starting point is 01:49:53 like I can do it and I know you can do it and you can do it and I can do it you let's do it well first of all
Starting point is 01:50:00 you are so close you literally are in a blockbuster film oh am I yeah yeah you bitch you fucking bitch you're literally such a bitch You are so close. You literally are in a blockbuster film. Oh, am I? Yeah, yeah. You bitch. You fucking bitch. You're literally such a bitch because you're in J-Lo's movie.
Starting point is 01:50:10 Truth. And we're going to talk about this first, and then you're going to do I Don't Think So Honey. Can we talk about Mr. K? Oh, yeah. What was he like? Okay, we're talking about Mr. Kusinov, my choir teacher in junior high. I was literally going to throw up. We're talking about Lenny Kravitz?
Starting point is 01:50:28 Yes, Lenny Kravitz is in this move, He. Uh-huh. What is the movie about? Can you tell us? Yeah, I can tell you a little bit. It's about, like, I'm going to think of what's out there. Here's what it's about. It's about J-Lo and Josh Duhamel.
Starting point is 01:50:41 Okay. Okay. Do you like hot people? Yeah, I literally do so much. They are getting married. Wait, I honestly don't know how much I can say. I'm just going to say that. No, no, I think this is...
Starting point is 01:50:53 I actually am getting a little bit of a... Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. What kind of movie is it? Is it a rom-com? How about this? It's Die Hard at a Wedding. Okay. It's action.
Starting point is 01:51:04 It's romance. It's romance. It's comedy. It's like a romantic comedy wedding movie with tons, tons of action. Oh my God. And you shot it in the DR. We shot it in the Dominican Republic, a lovely place that I would like to visit in real life. I mean, I, you know, like on a vacation. And now I'm going to ask the kind of crazy question and i have
Starting point is 01:51:25 asked bowen yang this because bowen yang actually had a dinner with j-lo one time as a part of the cast of snl what does she smell like is that what you're about to say no i was just gonna ask what's what is the j-lo deal the deal yeah well i mean she's heaven on earth. She's so... I loved her. She's so beautiful. She's the most stunning woman. She brings it every second of every day. Have you heard that she's like extremely prepared? Yes. It's like something that goes around about her.
Starting point is 01:51:56 Her whole thing is that she's a workhorse. Yeah, she's a workhorse. Did she have a new Swarovski cup made for the project? But of course. That was the thing that she told us. Me and Ego met with her on Tuesday meetings, and she was in Ego's office, and her and I were just talking.
Starting point is 01:52:12 And then we were like, oh my God, J-Lo, we love your cup. And she was like, yeah. She was like, I do one for every project. Yeah, so she has a sippy cup, like one of those Starbucks big sippy cups. But it's full Swarovski crystal. Oh my God. yeah so she has like a like a sippy cup like one of those Starbucks big sippy cups yeah but it's full Swarovski crystal
Starting point is 01:52:27 covered in Swarovski and usually it says there's a big J J-lo the logo but for every movie she has a different so this one was Shotgun Wedding
Starting point is 01:52:34 and it had like a little grenade on it it's called Shotgun Wedding I love that title for an action wedding movie yeah that's fun right and so you you are in the film
Starting point is 01:52:42 with Lenny Kravitz Lenny Kravitz what does he what does he smell like he smells great he smells like his body Yeah, that's fun, right? And so you are in the film with Lenny Kravitz. Lenny Kravitz. What does he smell like? He smells great. He smells like his body. Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:52:52 For absolute sure. You know, I mean, this is the funny thing is like we all, meaning the actors, and okay, J-Lo lived in her own house. Yeah, for sure. For she is J-Lo, right? She lived down the beach from us, but all the actors lived in a house together. Come on. Josh Duhamel? Okay, Josh also lived in his own house.
Starting point is 01:53:09 Who was in his house? J-Lo had her house on one side of the beach. We were in the middle, and then Josh was sort of like up the hill. Right. And then in my house was Leonard Krav, Sonia Braga, legendary. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:53:24 Steve Coulter. We had Callie Hernandez. We had Desmond Borges. We had... You were saying to me on Marco Polo. We had Cheech, freaking Cheech. Yes, yes. Because you were saying you guys would have really lovely dinners.
Starting point is 01:53:38 Yes, we had the damn queen herself, Jennifer Coolidge. Oh my God. I know. It was, yeah, we would have we would have lived, it was kind of like I don't know what the hell. It was like adult sleep away summer camp something. It was. But you would have like little
Starting point is 01:53:54 like a nice dinner with just Cheech one night. Yeah. Where you would have like a nice dinner with Sonia and Jennifer. Yeah. Like it would be different configurations of the people. Yeah. It kind of depended on like who was working that night. I love that vibe. Yeah. When we got to this big old house, we all like – we got there on a weekend and we ate every meal together.
Starting point is 01:54:11 And I was like this can't last. Surely not only will it like – we'll get busy but also this will be too annoying. I want to be in my own room or whatever. We ate every fucking meal together. We would come home from set and be like, see you in 30 minutes and like gather around for dinner. On the weekends we would spend, it was really weird.
Starting point is 01:54:30 It never got old. And maybe that's just because we were there for like a month and a half or something. But it was really lovely. We would like, they had a screening room
Starting point is 01:54:38 so we'd do movie nights together. Community. You'll love to see it. And also like in this year where you're lacking the community and you're not making new friends and you're not eating dinner together. It was pretty wonderful. Wow.

Starting point is 01:56:26 honey. Pick a damn day. I had to go to church on Sunday and Wednesday my whole damn life. And I didn't want to go on Wednesday. I already got all the God I needed on Sunday. Wait, you're just doing it.
Starting point is 01:56:42 She's doing it. And some of these goddamn folks go Sunday morning, Sunday night, and on Wednesday. I don't think so, honey. I don't think so. You think, oh, I love my church community. I want to see them more. Well, honey, invite them over to the house for tea. Look at a damn picture of them.

Starting point is 01:57:46 It was well performed. Thank you. Oh my God, that's never been done before. And also, it just highlights how brilliant that I don't think so, honey is. It is the fucking best. It is the funniest. I truly listen to it like every couple months. Kill them all.
Starting point is 01:57:59 Kill them all. Wednesdays are for, wait, what is it? Wednesdays are for being at home and eating spaghetti. And then he goes, I don't think so, honey. And then you say five seconds and you know he did not prepare this, right?
Starting point is 01:58:12 No. He thinks he's going to end on, I don't think so, honey. You go five seconds and he goes, This is terrible. Kill them all. The one and only Aaron Jackson as performed by the one and only Aaron Jackson
Starting point is 01:58:25 oh my god as performed by the one and only Darcy Carden oh my god thank you for that wow that was truly a ride
Starting point is 01:58:32 because I looked at Bowen in his eyes I was like we've heard this and I was like but I won't bring it up right and I would never
Starting point is 01:58:38 mortify you but then it became so clear that it was word for word and then all of a sudden I was like hold on a second unbelievable and you just barreled through well because you were like these boys are going to You've heard this, and then all of a sudden I was like, hold on a second. And you just barreled through.
Starting point is 01:58:50 Because you were like, these boys are going to understand that this was. They're going to know at some point. Oh, I knew 15 seconds in. And then at that point, I was soaring, flying. There's not a star in heaven that we can reach. Wow, I don't know that song. It's high school musical. Okay, great. I tried to join in, and then I heard that I don't know that song. It's high school musical. Okay, great. I tried to join in
Starting point is 01:59:06 and then I heard that I didn't know it. No. Honestly, that was cathartic in every way. The whole episode. I, oh, you guys. But readers, please,
Starting point is 01:59:17 and boys, I really highly recommend you going back to Dodd, episode Dodd. Oh, one of the finest episodes. And just scrolling to, I think it's like 10 minutes left and just listening to that Aaron Jackson because it'll really
Starting point is 01:59:28 make you fly. It's a moment in culture. It's a really good one. And also just that episode. You know what? I'm going to take it back. You're going to want to listen to that whole entire episode. It's very long. It's very, I mean, first of all, can we say now a
Starting point is 01:59:44 normal Lost College has been an hour and 45 minute thing. And I believe this is soared past that. Is that not true, Doug? It might be true. Yeah, we've soared past it. But also can I say, who gives a flying fucker?
Starting point is 01:59:54 Not us. Because I like to listen to, I don't need to listen to it all in one drive. No, impossible to do. I'll listen to it in a week. I don't give a shit, you idiots. Also,

Starting point is 02:00:30 we celebrate Anthony Hopkins' Oscar win you guys honestly can we just say like this has been so nice
Starting point is 02:00:38 just to like be in the same room cathartic okay wait I'm also gonna say another thing there was something about this whole entire year of listening to this show, loving it, eating it up, fucking living for it.
Starting point is 02:00:49 And there was this moment when you guys would sing at the end of the show that I would have this like – because it didn't sync up and it was such a funny little Zoom thing, it brought me like future hope. It was every single time I heard you guys sing the song and it would be one second off. My thought was like, someday we're going to be together. For real. And look. And look. Here we are. Oh my God, Dars.
Starting point is 02:01:13 And this, I mean, first of all, you must return. I must return. When either of them, I don't know what'll be first, but whenever your next thing happens, you must return.
Starting point is 02:01:22 I think League of Thrones is in like December or something, so I'm here. Literally Christmas, absolute time. I'm here of Thrones is in December or something, so I'm here. Literally Christmas absolute time. I'm here Christmas day. If you guys do not spend Christmas day with me here in this room, I will sue.
Starting point is 02:01:34 Yes, sue. Kill them all. Kill them all. And we'll deserve it. But, come on. Come on. And, it's going to be a good year for Lost Cult this hopefully this will happen
Starting point is 02:01:46 more often we've got some a really fun idea planned for the summer oh yeah we might be returning to an eventized moment
Starting point is 02:01:54 but it's not it's not the same it's not the same it's not the same because I know we keep sort of doing this bit hashtag at the end
Starting point is 02:02:01 where where we say we might have to do another list there's not to do another list. There's not going to be another list. There's going to be something that's equally as powerful. Dare I say? Doubly as powerful.
Starting point is 02:02:13 Woo! Did you hear that? And he said doubly. That means two times as much. That means two times as much. But maybe not necessarily two times as much. Maybe more. I might have to go back and revisit that goddamn list every single episode.
Starting point is 02:02:26 Queen. Queen stays queen. Queen stays queen. Queen stays queen. I have to say that, so we're all sort of belaboring the end because we don't want it to end. Yes we are.
Starting point is 02:02:35 But all good things must come to an end. And I only have to, I think that we have to, because of the title of the ep, we have to sort of celebrate that with the song lift me up in your arms i will go with you to the ends of the earth and we'll fly that will fly I've been waiting forever for this this is the
