A chilling 911 call reveals the horrifying moment of Florida man confessed to killing his wife
right in front of their children. As this story unfolds disturbing questions about years of
alleged abuse and control in the couple's marriage emerge, we're going to break down the
harrowing call and the heartbreaking aftermath of this tragedy. Welcome to Sidebubes.
Presented by Law and Crime, I'm Jesse Weber.
A funeral service is being held for a Florida mother today after a tragic and heart-wrenching event in Port Charlotte, Florida.
On the evening of January 26, 46-year-old Rahelio Prestel apparently made a shocking and deeply disturbing alleged confession to police.
In a 911 phone call, Prestle seemingly admitted to fatally shooting his wife, 40-year-old Jasandra Prestel,
in front of their two children, reportedly just 9 and 15.
And we are going to play you this 911 phone call.
And I want you to listen to what is this eerily calm voice,
what appears to be remorseful tone in his voice,
as he allegedly confessed to this just horrifying crime.
I will tell you this is deeply unsettling.
No, no, I'm almost the address of the emergency.
Haldville Avenue.
Are the city of Port Charlotte there?
No.
I'm calling.
I'm calling because I want to report.
Okay.
And how did you do this?
I did it with a gun.
My personal impression, you have someone who is seemingly in shock, regret.
He tells the dispatcher that he just killed his wife, already made arrangements for their children's care, asking his brother to come and look after them.
That's what makes this call so bizarre.
are so chilling, how his voice remains eerily calm.
Tell me exactly what had happened.
I have two minors here that a family member is going to come and be with them.
I already told my family member to take care of them because I know I'm going to go to jail.
Okay.
If you don't mind, if I could just keep you online, though, because they're going to be heading that way
and I just want to be able to give you instruction if they give me something like, you know,
if they want you to step out or what have you.
Right.
That sort of thing.
I just don't want anything.
Miscommunication, you know, you get harmed or something like that, okay?
Okay.
Just keep with me here.
Whereabouts are your kids?
Are they in, like, a separate room or?
They are here.
They are actually listening to you right now.
Oh, okay.
Both of them.
Okay.
How old are they?
One is 15, a boy, and the girl is nine.
Okay.
Like I said, my brother, I told my brother and he's coming to stay with the kids.
Okay. How far away is he?
He should be like two hours away. He's already on his way.
Okay. How long ago had you called him?
Um, I don't remember. Maybe, maybe like,
30 minutes ago or something, something like that.
I don't remember.
Okay.
And what kind of vehicle does he drive?
I don't know.
He might be coming in a Tesla or he might be in a Lexus, something like that.
Okay.
One of those two.
No, I understand.
I appreciate that.
Yeah, just so they know that's him coming just so they can assist, you know, everything going on.
really scary story here. And look, I will tell you, one of the things that we try to do here

In a later interview with detectives, Prestel said he had long been suspicious of Jasandra's loyalty,
believing she was communicating with someone online through TikTok and telegram.
But I'll tell you, according to Gulf Coast News, other people allegedly said Prestle wasn't being truthful about these cheating allegations.
And it appears that their relationship had already been strained.
Months before that night, Jasandra had reportedly asked for.
a divorce, but then you go to January 26th, and that is when things take a terrifying turn.
According to a probable cause, affidavit Prestel confronted Jasandra demanding that she show
him her phone. The affidavit says Rahelio had concerns that the victim had been sending money
to the subject she had been speaking with online. Reheleo confronted the victim and demanded she
unlock her phone and show him her bank account to confirm his suspicion. The victim refused.
Now, parts of the police affidavit are redacted for privacy.
protect the investigation. But according to Fox 4, Rahelio reportedly became enraged, pulled a nine-millimeter
handgun pointing it at his wife, quote, in an attempt to scare her into complying. This is according to
police. And the affidavit reveals that someone, believed to be the couple's 15-year-old son,
according to Fox 4, begged his mother to comply with his father's demands. Can you imagine that?
But it was too late. DeSandra apparently tried to climb out of a window in their home office.
when Rahelio Prestel allegedly opened fire.
According to the affidavit, she made it outside, but Prestel followed her to the front porch
and shot at her, quote, until he ran out of ammunition.
She was found dead on the sidewalk.
Reheleio reportedly told deputies he didn't try to help Jasandra because he, quote, knew she was dead.
One of the children later reported that their ears hurt from the deafening gunshots.
Now, fortunately, neither child was physically injured, the emotional and psychological toll.
That's a whole separate story.
But luckily, they weren't physically injured during the course of this.
After allegedly killing Jasandra, Prestel told police he called his brother, told him he was going to take his own life.
But his brother talked him out of it instead encouraged him to turn himself in.
And the next part of the call, dispatch can be heard telling Prestel that police are on the way to his home.
They're about to turn on your road here.
They're coming up.
Yeah, just tell them that I mean no harm to them.
I mean no harm to them.
I'll pull my hands up, whatever you ask.
I'll go or I go to the ground.
Okay.
I am so sorry.
I don't know why this life is so hard.
No, I understand.
I can feel you're regretful for it,
and I understand a lot of emotions and that,
and I appreciate you being calm with me
and, you know, being calm with them
and that sort of thing.
We really appreciate it,
especially given the circumstance of that.
I appreciate you being a little more level-head,
and I think you're doing good,
you know, following some good advice
from your brother and your kids and stuff like that just to maybe let us take a little handle
of it rather than something happening to you okay yeah in the aftermath of the shooting
prestle spoke with what appears to be this heavy sense of remorse seemingly expressing his regret
for his actions as his daughter just cries in the background oh yeah i'm so sorry my baby crying
Please come.
Take me away.
They're outside.
Let me just make sure they want you to step out.
But I mean no harm to them, okay?
I'm not going to do anything to them.
No, I understand.
They're not responsible for any of this.
Okay.
What kind of vehicle do you own?
Do you have a red truck out front?
Yeah, yeah, that's my truck.
Can I come out?
Let me just see.
I send the kids to the room.
Okay.
Okay. Okay. It's, it's just terrible. It's terrible. It's heartbreaking. It's chilling. And once police arrived, Mr. Prestle offered to walk right outside and surrender.
If you want to walk towards the front door, but just stay inside for just a second. They're just, uh, have to do this.
I go to the door. Do you want me to turn on the lights so they can see better? Um, yeah, you, you can feel free to turn on the lights. Um, just, uh, don't exit just yet, though, okay. Okay. Okay.
Or they can come in.
I'll be sitting here.
I'm just sitting here in my couch.
Okay.
Just on the couch?
Yeah.
Okay.
I appreciate you standing on the line here and I'll just give you update here in a second.
They'll probably be having you come out here in a moment.
They have to look around the house and stuff.
They know I'm on the line with you.
It's just they have certain procedure.
They have to follow just so no mistakes or any accidents or anything like that.
They just will make sure they follow it correctly, okay?
Okay.
Okay.
why I saw it on the phone because I can tell you when to head out and that and then they'll
take over speaking with you from there okay okay okay I mean it seems obvious it was
it only the four of you that were in the house or do you have anybody else that lives there
or anything no just me my two kids and then my wife but I just didn't know I mean
it seemed kind of obviously you didn't mention anybody else there but I didn't know
you had no family or remember anything like that that live there no no no
Just give me one second because I'm hearing the radio they're talking.
I imagine they'll probably have you step out here in a second.
Sure, sure.
And again, I do appreciate you being very calm about this.
I know you've got a lot of emotions going on.
I can't imagine your feelings right now,
but I do appreciate you being calm with me and that.
Yeah.
I wish I could go back in time, but I can't.
It's just so painful.
No, I'm so sorry.
I know I can't imagine the kind of pain you're in, just with everything.
It's a lot.
I know it can be a lot.
At least that I can empathize with, you know, that kind of feeling.
What room did you have your kids go into or did you let's go to their bedrooms?
I told them to go to their bedrooms.
Okay.
What part of the house is that, is that, like, their bedrooms?
This is the bedroom, the girl's bedroom, which is in the front of the house.
Okay.
And then, without any struggle, Rehelioprestal remained on the line with dispatch as he went out, surrendering peacefully.
I can come out if you want.
I mean, ask me whatever you need to ask me.
No, absolutely.
I don't know if we want any more, you know, death is even in and that.
So we'll just have them speak with you and that sort of thing.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
I know it's a lot, but I prefer you not to have harm come to you as well.
Okay.
Okay.
They want me to step out of the house without that firearm and just have your hands up, okay?
Okay.
Keep you online as long as you can, just have, you know, open that door with your hands up.
With the phone also?
If you need to sit down the phone, just do it like at the front door or something like that, okay?
Just keep me with you until you're to the front door.
Just let me know you're stepping out.
stepping out and then I'll disconnect and I'll speak with you, okay, sir.
I'm going to leave it on the floor, you said.
Yeah, you can set your phone wherever you want or if you need to put in your pocket or something.
It's up to you if you want to set on my, yeah, like a little time.
Okay, I'll leave it in my pocket and I'll leave you on a speaker, okay?
Okay.
No, absolutely.
He's coming forward.
He's coming forward?
Okay.
He's coming forward?
Move forward.
Stop.
With your right hand, lift up your shirt.
Right hand only.
Sorry, sorry.
Turn around.
Stop.
Drop your knees.
Your hands up, your head.
Don't move.
Do you not move.
Hi, baby.
When deputies arrived, they found Jasandra's lifeless body near the front door of the home.
She had gunshot wounds to her back, buttocks, arm, chest.
According to the affidavit, numerous nine-millimeter casings were collected from within the office of the residence,
and multiple nine-millimeter casings were collected on the front porch of the residence,
and a nine-millimeter tourist semi-automatic handgun was found on the kitchen counter.
As the investigation unfolded, people who knew the family started to question that initial narrative that Rehelioprestle put forward,
where he claimed that the shooting was triggered by a heated argument over suspected infidelity.
According to reporting from Gulf Coast News,
family and friends close to Jasandra shared their disbelief
and their growing concerns about Prestel's behavior in the months leading up to this death.
Many believe that his actions or his alleged actions were part of a longstanding alleged pattern
of controlling an abusive behavior that escalated when Jasandra had filed for divorce.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummel shared in a statement,
quote, there are no words to express how terrible this is,
or the impact it will have on so many lives.
The act itself is despicable
and only made worse by the fact
that there were children in the home at the time.
My heart breaks for them
and for everyone who knew Jasandra.
Domestic violence of any kind is disgusting,
and I pray that anyone who's experiencing it sees this
and realizes this is a possible outcome.
To those people, please know that you are not alone
and help is available.
Don't wait until this happens to you.
That's so important.
That's actually one of the reasons
why we wanted to cover this case,
why we cover a lot of the cases
on sidebar to bring awareness
to these issues. Now, Dessandra's family, including her brother, Benjamin Martin,
they've spoken out about the deep shock and grief they feel in the wake of this horrible
situation, her tragic death. And in an effort to support Dessandra's family through this
painful time, Martin launched a go-fund me campaign to help cover for the funeral expenses
and other financial burdens. We're going to put it up for anybody if you case you want to
contribute. But in a heartfelt message on the page, he wrote,
We are devastated by the sudden loss of my sister, Jasandra Prestel.
Her passing has left a hole in our hearts that we will never be able to fill.
During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your help.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your generosity.
Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Martin told a reporter with W.I.N.K. News, the last person that she talked to was my mother.
I don't know if he assumed that she was talking with somebody else, but his jealousy, it was big.
He told me a few weeks ago.
If I'm not with her, I can't be with anybody.
But let's be clear about something.
Jassandra's life was much more than this story than her end.
She was a mother.
Yes, she was a wife, but she was a well-respected and successful real estate agent,
known for her bright, uplifting personality.
Tracy Kelly, a colleague at Florida Mortgage Funding Group,
described Jassandra as someone who radiated positivity.
She would be so uplifting and sweet, always smiling.
She had that aura of a person you just loved being around.
Clients who work with Jassandra raved about her in online reviews.
clearly this is somebody that had a profound impact on so many people's lives.
As for Rahelio Prestel, he has been charged with second degree murder.
He is being held without bond.
In Florida, the criminal statute reads the unlawful killing of a human being
when perpetrated by any act imminently dangerous to another
and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life,
although without any premeditated design to affect the death of any particular individual
is murder in the second degree and constitutes a felony of the first degree,
punishable by imprisonment for a term of years not exceeding life.
According to court records, Rahelio Prestel is due back in court on March 10th for his
arraignment.
That's all we have for you right now here on this episode of Sidebar, everybody.
