he would not take another Pirates of the Caribbean franchise role for $300 million
and a million alpacas.
Now, would Disney entertain paying Mr. Depp more than $300 million and provide him with
more than an alpacas to be able to obtain his services for any future pirate
to the Caribbean Wall.
Now, I'm going to show you what had been marked as deposition exhibit number 52.
To Alan Horn, who's that?
He was our co-chairman of Disney.
Yes.
That was Amber Heard's attorney, Elaine Brettahoft, questioning Disney production executive, Tina Newman,
during the Depp v. Her defamation trial, asking Newman about Johnny Depp's statement
on if the actor would return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise under some very
particular circumstances.
Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this
earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film.
That is true, Mr. Rodman.
Even after Depp stated under oath, $300 million and one million alpacas,
would not lure him back to the Pirates franchise.
A report has now surfaced at a $301 million deal
has Depp thinking otherwise.
So is Depp headed back to Disney to revive
his role as Captain Jack Sparrow?
Welcome to Sidebar, presented by Law and Crime.
I'm Sam Goldberg.
During the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation trial,
Depp used fairly choice words to describe his feelings towards Disney.
Mr. Depp, last week Mr. Rottenborn asked you about a quote
where you said you wouldn't come back to the Pirates franchise
for $300 million and a million alpacas.
Do you remember that?
I do.
When relative to learning that you would no longer be a part of the Pirates franchise,
did you make that statement?
I think long before I made the statement, there was a very deep and distinct sense of having been betrayed by the people that I had been working with, the people that I had worked hard for, the people that I had delivered a character to, that they initially despised, but somehow.
You know, even I stuck to my guns with the character, and it seemed to work.
So why are outlets like the New York Post publishing articles that Depp could now return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise?
On June 27th, an Australian pop culture website, Poptopic.com, reported that a source quote,
very close to Disney, said that a $301 million deal is in the works to get Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Poptopic.com claims their source.
also said, quote, Disney is very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp.
They are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.
However, before Depp fans head to the box office, a representative for the actor told NBC
news, quote, this is made up. It's also worth noting pop topic.com's article labeled the claim
a quote, rumor and didn't provide any information about their alleged inside source.
Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow in all five Pirates of the Caribbean movies,
and despite Poptopic.com's reporting, it doesn't appear a six Pirates movie with Depp in it will air anytime soon.
As of this recording, Law & Crime has reached out to Johnny Depp's team, Walt Disney, and Poptopic.com, and we have not heard back.
