We thought we were making a right and I turned onto the train tracks, apparently.
Bro, I'm Marcus Jordan. I'm Michael Jordan, son.
I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm just trying to get home.
And I made a wrong turn.
Marcus Jordan, the son of sports legend.
Michael Jordan and a basketball player in his own right got his luxury car stuck on railroad tracks
in Maitland, Florida earlier this year.
You may have seen it, and his bad luck didn't end there.
No, he ended up arrested for DUI with officers saying they found drugs in his pocket, and
you are not going to believe some of his reactions to his detention that was caught on body cam,
which we are going to play for you, as he now accepts a plea deal.
We're going to take you through it all right now.
Welcome to Sidebar, presented by Law and Crime.
I'm Jesse Weber.
Marcus Jordan is back in the headlines, not for his love life, not for his basketball
career, not even for his famous father, Michael Jordan.
No, instead, he is in the spotlight for a recent arrest out in Florida, the body cam footage
from that, and what we want to talk about right now, this is new, an agreement to take a plea.
Now, we're going to get into that.
We're going to get into the body cam footage.
got to go back to February. February of this year out in Maitland, Florida, it's north of Orlando.
That is when several officers with the Maitland Police Department responded to a train track,
several hundred yards down from a railroad crossing. It's just after 1 a.m. The driver of this car
later identified as Marcus Jordan said that he simply made a wrong turn.
What do you want to help them?
We're going to try?
Huh?
We're going to try.
What happened?
What happened?
How did you get on the tracks, man?
All right, good.
Help us try and reverse this thing out.
Well, hang on, hang on.
You are stuck.
Come here.
You know the trains come by right now, right?
No, I know that's where I'm trying to get...
I hear you.
What?
Yeah, your car ain't going nowhere.
You're buried.
You're stuck on the truck.
So how do we get off the track?
Honestly, I'm trying to figure that out.
We already...
We've never found to train.
I need you guys out of the car because there is a train coming right now.
What the f***?
Let me pull up.
You can't move it.
You're not going to be able to move it.
Just get out of the car.
You can't.
You're buried.
No, you can move it to the right.
You're buried, bro.
You can't go nowhere.
You're buried?
But there's a train.
At least to the right.
Try to the right.
Alright, so then...
You want to get hit?
By a train?
Do you think I want to get hit by a train?
No. I'm too.
I'm saying, get out of the car so we don't get hit so we can get off this thing.
Baby, try to the right.
All right, get out of the car.
Okay.
Get out of the car.
Okay.
I got to order you guys out.
Get out of both of you guys.
Come on.
Safety first.
Safety first, man.
Of course, safe to first, but I mean, I'm trying to get the, out of here.
Yeah, but your car's not going anymore, man.
I understand that.
So, come on.
Yeah, you guys need to get out of the train.
There's a train coming.
I don't want to see you guys get hit, bro.
I understand that.
Come on.
Alright, let's step over here.
There's got to be a way to get the stop.
Look at the tire right here. Look, look. See the tires?
Yeah.
They're buried. You guys are little bit stuck.
I mean, there's no getting at all.
Do you see it?
You see it?
What I'm saying?
This car ain't going nowhere, no one.
This is bad.
He's been sending them.
Okay.
You see what I'm saying?
I mean, I see it.
That's what I said.
It ain't going nowhere.
We can't help you out with that.
We got this on there.
We're notifying them to see if they'll stop,
but they got one coming from Sanford.
And it's...
I mean, I feel like we got one, two, three, four.
It's four of his guy.
We can push this .
Right?
Right.
My concern is us, okay?
Yeah, but I'll be right, okay?
That's the concern, all right?
I mean, the concern is this $300,000 vehicle.
I would like to just like push the shit out the way.
Let's start trying.
I don't know what to do about a tow truck or anything.
Toad truck, we don't need a tow truck.
We just need a tow truck.
Can I get some manpower to push all for this?
Okay, first of all, no, because I'm not getting you back behind the wheel.
Why?
How long ago did you do with what's going on?
This just happened right now.
We thought we were making a right and I turned onto the train tracks, apparently.
I'm trying.
But, yeah, we're not getting back in the car right now, okay?
The reason why, yeah.
Give me a favorite.
Keep the anxiety pocket.
Yeah.
There's nothing in my pocket.
There's nothing in my pocket.
Just hand up in the lower.
Oh, man.
I'm Marcus Jordan.
I'm Michael Jordan's son.
I'm not doing anything wrong.
I'm just trying to get home.
And I made a wrong turn.
Okay?
And clearly, we would just like to get our car off of the train track.
It's true.
Which we were not trying to be on.
Do you have your ID on you real quick?
Let's worry about that.
Let them know who we're out with.
And then we'll...
Did you have an ID on your, ma'am?
Yes, of course.
Oh my goodness gracious.
yes sir thank you i mean i apologize i this is not by design i got it i got it i got it i got it i got it i hold it for you
we're just trying to head home man i live in dr phillips how did you manage you got on the train tracks man
honestly i made a left and i made a right and i made another right and here we are okay
Where are you guys coming from?
We were at a couple of being used tonight, but...
I'm just trying to get home.
Like...
Thank you.
We got a tow truck on the way.
We really need a tow truck?
Yeah, we're gonna have a walk in here.
We need a tow truck, really?
Yeah.
Yeah, you can't get this off the track, huh?
Now, with my job, I'm constantly on the road, which can sometimes leave me feeling a little
homesick.
You know, I just was in CrimeCon out in Denver.
And when life or work is stressful and you're feeling burnt out, don't you start really
thinking about that one spot in your home that's supposed to be the most comfortable of all,
the safe spot, the bed?
For me, that's why we got to talk about Cozy Earth.
Why?
Because Cozy Earth has these bamboo sheets that are temperature regulating, which means I'm not
waking up sweaty or freezing.
I'm just comfortable all night long.
Let me tell you, the bubble cuddle blanket, that is a game changer.
It is ridiculously soft.
It has this textured bubble design that looks amazing, draped over the couch or the bed, and
it's the kind of blanket that everyone in the house is going to be fighting over.
Now here's the thing.
Once you feel the difference, you're going to get why Cozy Earth stands out.
They even give you a 100-night sleep trial.
So if you don't love them, you can send it back, plus a 10-year warranty because comfort
like this, it should really last the long haul, right?
So head over to CozyEarth.com, use my code, law and crime for 40% off.
And if you see that post-purched survey, let them know how you heard about Cozy
Earth right here because your bed shouldn't just be where you sleep, it should be your happy
place. Cozy Earth makes that happen.
Yeah, Jordan is seemingly dumbfounded that the officers won't help him move his car and the officers
have to keep warning Jordan and his date that this is an active train track.
There's six of us and we throw this thing in reverse.
I've already got concerns for your level of impairment anyways, okay, so that's why.
Why?
Because I can smell alcohol coming from you, and you're on train tracks.
Okay.
Come on, man.
Just listen to me.
That's why I don't want you back behind the wheel anyways, okay?
I'm fine behind the wheel.
I just would like to get my car out of this.
We'll deal with that after this, okay?
We'll deal with that after this.
But that's why I had to get you out of the car, okay?
Because I hear spinning tires, I hear slurred speech from you.
You're driving on train tracks.
I'm not slurring anything, and I'm, okay.
I'm letting you know.
I have concerns.
I appreciate that.
I can't let you back behind the car.
I appreciate your concerns.
Yeah, I don't want to be your concern.
But I am not inebriated.
I'm not anything that cannot drive home.
The thing is, my job is to keep everybody says.
I'm not familiar with this area.
I made a right.
I thought I was making a right onto the highway.
I made it right onto the train track.
Where did you turn that?
I wish I could tell you but you're way down the train track that's what I'm saying
it's not like you just turn that way down the straight tracks we we made a right and another
right um I'm letting you know there's no physical possible way in this universe we can push this
car off the train track I disagree with that oh I don't care if you disagree or not okay
I'm letting you know I mean I get that but I we're not I just behind the wheel okay
not at this moment okay there possibly is a train train
coming okay so we need to get off these tracks that is my concern right now but you guys
are safety in our own right man bro you can't get the car off and we're not pushing it okay
so I'm letting you know that all right I mean I could definitely get this car off if you
gentlemen would like to help me I told you we're not pushing a car off of train traps like this
and I'm not getting back behind the wheel until I know that you're safe enough to operate
okay so what do I have to do to show you that I'm safe enough to
operating.
Well, I'm not going to do field sobriety exercises in a minute, but I'm going to read
your Miranda rights first because there's so many of us, that's the only reason.
I've already ordered you out of the car, I gave you orders before I ask any questions.
I have to read you your rights.
You're not under arrest.
I know that.
I know I'm not.
The more the officers interact with Jordan, the more convinced they become that they need him
to do field sobriety tests.
Jordan though seems to think if he apologizes enough times for, quote, making a wrong turn,
maybe we'll just let him go. Okay, um, come on over here, sir. I'm right here,
I got to come over here, sir. I'm up, I'm working my way. Okay. You okay, Taylor?
All right. All right, ma'am, I'm gonna be doing an investigation on them, right?
So that's why we got multiple cops here, so I'm going to have right here.
So, ma'am, if you'd like to stand by the cup for or stand back there.
But I'm going to be doing an investigation, so I don't want more than people in there.
All right.
So, sir, I got a couple of questions.
Did you want to stand back here by the car?
First, I got to redo this because we can do that.
Here, if you want, let's go move over here.
You just stand by the front of the car rear.
No.
No.
No.
Thank you.
Um, so just less than that, I have this.
Why?
Because you can throw food here and throw on the tight tracks.
Okay, I smell alcohol, slurge speech.
I see several sides of your head.
My observation, it's my opinion.
Okay.
My opinion, I'm not slowing any speech, sir.
I understand everything that you're saying.
Lower your life, please.
That's not me.
I'm not.
I don't have any light.
Sir, I'm letting you do it.
Okay.
I appreciate you letting me know.
I'm perfectly fine.
I made a right, thinking that this was going to be the short cut for us to get on the highway.
And apparently I was mistaken.
Correct.
So the officer has Jordan do several tests, including an eye test, the walk and turn test,
the one-legged stand, but at the end of them, Jordan is not going to be too happy with the result.
I got a couple of questions for you.
What's up?
How much did you have drink?
A little bit.
Under the legal limit.
What's the limit of what?
Was it a point of way or something like that?
Yeah.
So how many drinks was a point of level?
I know, man, I'm not.
That's why I was asking.
I'm not a scientist.
So that's why I'm asking how much you have to drink.
I didn't either you said under the limit.
Was it one, two, 10, 20, how many?
I know that I'm under the legal limit.
Okay.
Okay.
Did you have any food tonight?
Yes, I ate a lot of food.
All right.
What did you have?
Vitalia.
All right.
Baby.
Thank you.
Okay.
Thank you.
So I see you wear glasses.
Are those for reading, seeing?
One of the things?
For everything.
I wear every day.
Okay.
Yeah.
Do you wear contact sold?
No.
Okay.
Can't get them in, can't get them out.
Are you diabetic?
No.
Okay.
Do you have any issues with walking or anything like that?
No.
No, sir.
Do you, uh, do you, uh, do you take any prescription medications?
No, sir.
Okay.
What about it?
No, sir.
No, sir.
Okay.
Um, like I said, um, I'm gonna have you do a couple exercises.
Okay.
Um, sure.
What those are is, I'm gonna look at your eyes first, okay?
Sure.
Um, so what I want to have to do is,
then stand right here to face me.
All right.
And then where are you?
Take your glasses off or look at your eyes, okay?
I'll have you hold them so you put them back around.
Okay.
See if you keep the other heels and toes touching, keep your arms down by your side.
It's like this.
Be together, heels and toes touch.
Yep, heels and toes touch, keep your arms down by your side.
Sure.
I know you're a little taller, so start the tip of my finger right here.
I'm staring.
Exactly.
All right, follow the tip of my finger with your eyes and eyes on.
You should.
Keep your head still.
Okay, so just your eyes.
Yeah, mine.
I'm doing my bed.
Follow girl, huh?
I'm fine. Did I miss the step?
No, just make sure you keep following.
Okay.
I'm following.
Any reason why you wouldn't be able to do this after this?
I mean, there might be, but I'm willing to do it anyway.
What would be that reason?
Nah, it doesn't matter. I'm willing to do it anyway.
Okay.
I'm trying to make sure I thought it's proper.
And I'm trying to...
So go ahead and get back into position.
I'm in position.
You know what?
That's...
This is one.
The first step in there is one.
One, two, three, four, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
Do we need extra tape for this?
No, sir, do the turn.
So then one, here's the turn, here's the turn, and then I'm going nine back, right?
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
All right.
Scale from zero, ten, zero.
We're completely sober.
It's not being falling down drop.
Where would I put myself at?
Three.
Three?
Yes.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
Those hands back.
I believe you have too much of this time.
Okay.
I disagree with that, sir.
Whatever you say.
what do you say? That's what I'm letting you. I mean, I hear you, but I disagree.
We're going to walk to this black one. We're going to this black car back there.
I'm following you guys.
I'm following you guys.
I'm following y'all.
Y'all walk and I'll follow.
I'm fucking walking.
I'm fucking walking.
I'm not pushing.
I'm not pushing.
I am a little person.
Man, what is you?
This is crazy.
This is...
Just leaning against the car.
Control 35 to 6.3 at 1.2.
I think we're here.
Thank you.
Wow.
I have it, so.
Well, so what we'll do is what we're based on is no effect on the press.
That's not based on the press.
But what we will do is give you the opportunity to provide that you license to talk about your license.
Man.
This is how y'all want to treat that game.
You are, you're disrespecting me.
To a small degree, you guys are disrespecting me.
To a small degree, you guys are disrespecting me.
But I mean, it's, you know.
Do you want her to have your property?
Yes, I do.
Okay.
What about phone and dollar?
What about it?
Do you want her to have the phone in Waller or do you want us to bring it with it?
No, I want her to have it.
Okay.
Do you want a credit card?
Wind your stance for me?
Wind your stance?
More?
Widen your stance?
I got you.
Thank you.
Man, what a Monday night.
What a Monday night.
As the officer searches Jordan's pockets and make sure he's not concealing anything,
Jordan's comments then take a turn.
take a turn. He seems to make taunts that are very vulgar.
I pull all this off. You want to see my fucking?
You want to check out of my two?
Go ahead. I feel like you might be.
No, no other.
I feel like you might be.
Why is that?
I don't know.
The way you're searching.
Well, we got to search everybody.
You can check under there.
You can check under there.
It ain't.
It's just a big, it's some big .
bro yeah receipts for i paid for in this city like what the fs really really i mean y'all are doing the
most right now i didn't do anything man i made a i made a wrong you're arrested for you
But I'm not drunk.
Alright, take a seat.
Number one.
My opinion is different.
Yeah, I know.
I get that.
Wait, wait, wait.
Wait, sir.
Wait, sit down.
I'm playing right now to go sit down.
I'm having a conversation.
Sit down, because if now I'm going to put you in the car, it's going to hurt.
Hang on, hang on, hang on.
One question.
You can ask you one question, I'll answer it, and then I want you to sit down.
What's up?
I just wonder to say why y'all are treating me as if I did something criminal.
Because I think you have driving under the influence,
under the influence.
But I'm not.
So I've answered your question.
Now please sit down and I'll answer more questions.
Please sit down.
I got nothing else for you, bro.
All right.
All right, can I?
Sit down.
Yeah, yo.
Hey, sit down.
Sit down.
You chill the fuck out, bro.
You chill out.
Stop picking.
Yo.
Can I ask my girlfriend a question?
Don't do that again.
Relax.
Stay down.
Relax.
Relax.
Can I ask my girlfriend a question or no?
Put your feet in the car.
Can I ask my girlfriend a question or no?
I got it rejected.
Oh, wow, okay, all right, all right, all right.
What's your name?
Officer Marino, badge number 183.
So the officer notes that he found a small baggie with white powder inside and wants to test it.
You'll act like y'all bigger than me.
There's a baggy with powder.
I was going to grab the wipe to a...
The boring Monday night.
So my brakes are going to be on the bottom.
We're going to come back to that.
But remember when I said this is an active railroad track, right?
As a tow truck driver works to get Jordan's luxury car off
of this rocky embankment, there is a train that comes by just a few feet away going the opposite
direction.
Is it going to go through the car and everything?
I don't think so.
Now, on the way, there's a baggie in its pocket?
Yes.
All right.
It's probably going to be cocaine because that explains the agitation.
Now, on the way, Jordan waffles between being friendly and singing along with songs like I of the Tiger on the patrol cars radio to being kind of angry that the officer doesn't know who he is.
I'm awesome.
Yeah.
Is Markis Jordan, are you, like, popular or something, or?
I don't know exactly what the .
I don't know who you are, man.
I never mentioned it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
I mean, I know you drive a nice car and you've been drinking, right?
Yeah, so.
I don't know.
You keep saying you're a big target.
Are you a slumber or something?
No, exactly.
I'm not.
I don't know.
I don't know who is.
You are, man.
Good.
So they don't ask you.
You keep bringing it up, man.
That's what I ask them.
You know.
You act like you don't know.
But it's cool.
We'll find out tomorrow.
Okay?
We'll find out tomorrow.
Now you remember that baggy of white powder?
Well, according to the on-scene chemical test, the substance inside was cocaine.
However, further testing at the forensic lab revealed it wasn't cocaine.
It was actually ketamine.
which can sometimes give a false positive for cocaine on a swab test.
So Jordan was facing three charges here.
Possession of ketamine, which is a level three felony,
as well as resisting an officer without violence and DUI, both misdemeanors.
You go to September 11th.
Jordan entered a plea deal with the prosecutor's office.
The deal basically is if Jordan is able to follow a list of rules over the next 12 months,
then the charges are going to be dropped.
It's what's known as a deferred prosecution, giving the defendant the chance,
to straighten up and fly right.
We got our hands on the pretrial intervention agreement
to find out what conditions Jordan will be under
for the next 12 months.
And there's a lot of them.
Okay, so first, he has to check in
with a pretrial intervention officer once a month.
We'll answer any of their questions truthfully.
That officer is also permitted to show up at his home
or job has to be allowed in.
In a related rule, by the way,
Jordan is required to have a full-time job
or be attending some sort of career training
or education program.
If he wants to travel out of state, Jordan has to get permission.
He can't leave the country at all, by the way.
He is required to do 50 hours of community service, which he can also seemingly opt out of by paying $10 per hour.
Jordan owes almost $500 to the Maitland police for the cost of their investigation.
Another $50 to the Orange County Sheriff's Office for theirs.
He is subject to urine or breathalyzer tests in any time, although,
court paperwork does indicate that Jordan completed a DUI substance abuse program in Orange
County back in August. He's going to have an ignition interlock device for six months,
can't drink during that time period. He's also required to donate $1,000 to a charity on the
court's approved list. And he also has to write a 250-word letter of apology to the arresting
officer. Now, if he can stick to everything, the prosecutor's office will drop the charges.
On the same day, the pretrial intervention agreement was filed.
Jordan posted on his Instagram account, Air MJ 523.
These days, I'm letting God handle all things above me.
