Starting point is 00:00:01 Ali and G will be here in just a moment. And before we get into the latest galley drama, we've got your next listen sorted, The Jack and Ash Show. Jack Remington and Ash Home have a whole host of ghoulish antics that'll have you laughing out loud, including Ash questioning whether her opinions are being influenced by watching too much loose women.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Search for the Jack and Asch show and get the podcast lined up to play next. So you've reached Leave a message with me, Ali. I'm me, G. This is a podcast where we hope. Help the galleys in need. Whether you're getting turned on at the thought of sucking a toe. Or you find out you have a secret famous cousin.
Starting point is 00:00:45 This is a podcast for you. Speaking of toes, I've lost two toenails this week. Two. Imagine. Imagine losing two. I don't even know how it happened. I genuinely don't know how people lose two nails. All I know is that I have seen a picture of Christiano Ronaldo's feet.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Yeah. There was not one toenail on that man. Shut the fuck out. Not one. His feet. Just skin. Wait, I actually think I have to find a picture. It's like just skin or like they're all black.
Starting point is 00:01:12 But like how do they get black? Well, I think his trainers are too tight. But I do think athletes often lose toenails. And as famously I'm an athlete. Let me just show. No reaction. Oh yeah, here we go. Nothing at all.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Doesn't even bite. Not a nibble. Famously, I'm an athlete. Next. Let's see. Oh, dear. What's your name? Riling back.
Starting point is 00:01:35 I've recently just decided that. I don't want to wear contact lenses or glasses, so I just can't see. Do you know, you can't, you shouldn't do that. I know, it's going to make it worse. I had a terrifying moment last night where I was sat on my laptop. It's terrifying. No, no, I genuinely thought this middle age is coming for me. What was you doing on your laptop?
Starting point is 00:01:55 She just got in this morning and she goes, I think I'm going to do menopause. I'm bloody hell. I was so hot and flustered this morning. And normally I am actually quite good, like on the tube and stuff in the heat. I thought my whole back was dripping. Anyway, I was on my laptop like this and I was type, type, typing. What were you type, type, typing on a laptop?
Starting point is 00:02:14 I was about fucking engagement venues. And I did think, oh, I am struggling to see that. Really? No, but you've got to change your optorship. I don't know where you're going. That is different. So you need your bifocals. I know.
Starting point is 00:02:30 I know. Do you need to wear those little ones you pick up boots? I need reading glasses. Because she's like this. Honestly, you see her, she's like this. Like I can obviously read Like I can you know
Starting point is 00:02:40 I can read obviously I can read how well As well as you can because it's in enormous letters Yeah But on the laptop I thought I'm fucked Yeah Quite severely fucked
Starting point is 00:02:51 Do you know that Does your mum have really bad eyeset Because it is genetic Yeah and she's in a world of pain Because she's got glycoma cataracts It's all kicking off with her eyes She keeps having to go to the eye doctor And getting these like tests done
Starting point is 00:03:04 And I think they are gonna do the laser. Yeah. But they have to do something where they like, basically she's got a detached retina. Right. So I don't know what's going on now.
Starting point is 00:03:13 But bad eyesight is genetic. But my dad has never worn glasses. He's 82. Never worn glasses. He's been 82 for a couple of years now. Yeah, yeah. I would say he's been 82 for a few. I think it turns 83 in November.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I genuinely do. Because it's, do you know what year he was born? Well, this is how I famously do it because I broke up with my ex on their birthday. They shared a birthday. They shared a birthday.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Yeah. You broke with your ex on his own birthday? It was about five working days before his birthday, yeah, we broke up. Obviously, he didn't want to buy a birthday present. That was the main reason. Yeah. No, it was actually because I remember he was away. He was going away for his birthday for work.
Starting point is 00:03:52 And I was like, I've got to do it before. Otherwise, it's going to be months. And then it's Christmas. And then I'm in a world of pain. So anyway, it was before then. So I always remember that that was my dad's 80th birthday. And that was three years ago between London. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:05 So he is 83. Anyway, his eyesight's amazing. Yeah. Some people just have that. They just wake up and see stuff. Do you wear contacts? Oh yeah, I'm so blind. Are you?
Starting point is 00:04:13 I'm minus seven. Guys. Oh, you're legally blind? I'm not quite. Is, you basically are? No, I know. Oh my gosh. I put my glasses on and my eyes like shrink.
Starting point is 00:04:24 I look like a little mold. Oh, I bet you look so cute with the glass. I do not. I don't. I hate wearing my glasses. It looks ridiculous. Well, because the thing, the glass must be so fucking shit. It's well thick.
Starting point is 00:04:34 I have to pay like. it now. Yeah, I pay 200 pound extra to get it thin and it's still like a fucking brick on my eye. It's so heavy. Because even when I went to get my last pair, they were like, there are some frames now that you can't pick because the glass will be too thick. Will you get laser? I do want it, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:50 But you've got to, it's very, there's a lot of like, sort of holes you have to jump through. There are. You have to have a stable prescription. Stable prescription, which I don't have. Got to be over 25, which unfortunately I am now. Oh my God, I didn't know that about you. I know, because I think I give 2020. vision, vibes.
Starting point is 00:05:06 That is the most pick me thing that you could ever say. That is worse. I gave a 2020. No, and this is another picnic comment
Starting point is 00:05:14 because I've really blue eyes. You are a picnic but I'm sorry to pity. I know you're sorry I'm so self-wear about it. I'm so self-wear. Basically, because I have such blue eyes.
Starting point is 00:05:25 People think I'm wearing like coloured contact lenses. Yes, course they do. Yeah, they do. Of course you get that compliment all the time. I get it all the time. Are you real eyes?
Starting point is 00:05:34 Yeah, and if they do, like, are you wearing colored contact lenses? I'm pretty sure Zofy has said that to me before. Zoff? Yeah, that is right. She's right. She's lying for attention to be show off. She's shown her. Oh, that's really good.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Well, listen, it's okay to be a pick me now and again. It really is. No, but Izzy snort pick me now and again. Izzy's a week up every day, rinse repeat pic me. Rincey repeat pick me is too good. She is. I feel like what's happening with Izzy at the moment and maybe some of our younger listeners can relate to this.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I feel like you're really maxing on the final year before your frontal loaves develop. I agree. Hey, it's here. I know my final loaves here. You know it's coming. I know. And you're kind of doing that thing where you're like almost pretending the frontal lobe isn't it? But like you loki know it's there.
Starting point is 00:06:20 But you're like, no, no, I know I can get away with it for like a year. So I'm going to max out on my kind of like final year of not having a frontal loaves. Because the difference is you know what you know. You do know. You're awake. She's a self-aware queen. Yeah. Of course she is.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Absolutely. How am I different to G, though? Yeah, good point. We're very similar in our behaviour. Cut on the same cloth. I think once I've caught myself and said it aloud, I have to do it. Whereas you catch yourself say it aloud and you go, yeah, anyway. And then you do it.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Whereas like if I've said it and I, like, I don't go wrong. I think that's a new thing for you though. I think that is post frontal lobe. It's post. It's post this year. It's not frontal lobe. It's the number. It's because I'm turning 30.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Right. And I think last year I didn't have that feeling. It was 28. I was so young. I don't know that. This time last year I was 28. I know, but why does that make a difference? Well, you think that you're too old to be making those decisions.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Fine, okay. 100%. That does make a difference, yeah. Fair. And you're not there yet, sis. So enjoy. Not there yet. Live for the both of us.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Will we just get on to World Cup of X? I think so. I think we should. I'm ready. This is the World Cup of X. which I've enjoyed greatly. And me. And I just want to say,
Starting point is 00:07:35 my main sadness is that, you know, only eight teams qualified. I know. Next year we could do more rounds. But I could honestly do 45 icks. Maybe from now, until the next World Cup,
Starting point is 00:07:48 that's four years, is it? Four years, correct. We'll just really girls be gathering our icks. Really, like, specific scenarios in which we've been given the ick. Okay, I could do that quite easily.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Right. So it is the final of the World Cup of X, which is, you know, a sadness, really, because as we said, we could go on forever. Alas. All good things must come to an end. And all tournaments must have a winner. Amen. That's me blowing a whistle.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Deren, enjoy that. Okay, today I am representing Invisible Sox. And Arby fighting for tries too hard on. Instagram. I think this is the right way around. Fine. Because I didn't know what an invisible sock was. And that did make it difficult. And that to be honest, I was at a disadvantage there. You were. Yeah. Would you like to go first, Sally Mann? Yeah. I just think fundamentally, people, mainly of the male variety, that try too hard on Instagram are so slimy and
Starting point is 00:08:57 frankly disgusting. I think it's pick me. And do you know what I don't mind? I don't mind pick me girls. Clearly. Right. What is on the agenda today with you two? I do not know. I'm just saying I think girls that try too hard on Instagram, don't get me wrong,
Starting point is 00:09:17 if it's shoved down your throat and it's for like 12 people, maybe it's not ideal. But boys that do it, I just think there is something so innately, try hard and desperate about it. I just think, who are you doing it for? You're doing it for the, like, it gives toxic, actually is what it gives. gives like, Slimy. A guy that I had previously dated put up a story and it did give me the eck and I thought,
Starting point is 00:09:41 brilliant. Was it the recent guy? Yeah, was the recent guy. What was the story? Let me see if it's still alive. I thought you'd screenshot it. And then actually,
Starting point is 00:09:50 a guy that I matched with on Hinge, I matched with this guy on Hinge and like, we kind of met like once before. So I already followed him on Instagram and he put up a story the other day and I thought, goodness. Everyone's moving mad. It's summer.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Everyone's just moving mad. Do you want to see it? His story is actually still out. What is it? Oh, dear. What is it? Say what you see. It's a diabolical.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Okay, I'm going to be like really cryptic, but he is put up a selfie. Oh, no, man doing a selfie. No, no, it's not just a selfie. This is like five-time Zoom. Yeah, it's like close. It's like in-close. The whole screen is just pure face.
Starting point is 00:10:24 It's pure face card. And he's talking about a kind of, like maybe a procedure he might have had done. Do you know what I mean? Like a kind of like before and a cosmetic procedure? Yes. That boys might have when they get to our age.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Yes. And they start thinking about, you know. Yes. Things that are deteriorating perhaps. Oh my God, it's still here. Okay. It's this. It's the caption overlay for me.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Has he written on the story? He's written on the story. Is it like in the caption bit or on? On the actual full front. And then it's the kind of the video starts too early, which I hate. I know the video starting. like start it where you want it to begin.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Do you know what I mean? Not where you have to press play. And it's a kind of swipe up situation. He looks fit, but whatever. Does he? I don't think that that's fit at all. I think that's giving pick me. Everyone's just trying to be picked.
Starting point is 00:11:21 That's the truth of it all. It gives attention grabby. It gives a little bit manipulative. It definitely gives like attention. Yes. Controlling. Well, I think with a lot of these controls. Attend.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Sorry, no, no. Sorry, I must just call you off on that. Control. No, no, I mean, like, to control other people's attention. Like, you're trying to, like, as in, like, you're... You're demanding eyes on. Right, thank you. Fine, yes.
Starting point is 00:11:47 I do think with a lot of these things, with the whole, like, male-female, like, difference, as you said, the categorising, I think sometimes the world is built to benefit heterosexual men. And I think with Instagram, when a girl defies all the odds and finds the confidence to post that picture or post that thirst strip,
Starting point is 00:12:09 we're just like Slay Queen because against it all, against the trolls, against the algorithm, against the whatever the fuck's going on on social media, you can post and find your confidence and find your sexy
Starting point is 00:12:19 and put your mirror selfie up. With the boys, I just think it's all in your favour, brother. The odds are in your favour. So you're just continuing to benefit from this fucking system that already is built for you.
Starting point is 00:12:32 And I think I don't like it. Also, obviously this is the World Cup of I-Ix. Yes. There is, like, imagine you're at a boy's house, right? And you, like, go to the loo and you come out and he's, like, taking mirror selfies. Like, that is, honestly, that I would run. Or what if he's constantly trying to get you, like, in videos?
Starting point is 00:12:52 This picture with the abs like this. Ooh. Even that, like, it's icky. It's just cringe. Even if they're taking pictures of you, I'm like, oh, what, I'm like a commodity that needs to look pretty. Yes. I'm like, you're like fucking arm candy, no thanks. Also, do you know, actually, and I've been thinking about this a lot,
Starting point is 00:13:07 it's like that, it's like that arm candy thing of like those boys that do that, they want to like show off like, oh, I'm in Dubai. Oh, I'm like drinking ex champagne. Oh, I'm at this kind, like, Nikki Beach. And it's like, who are you trying to impress? We're not impressed. I'm not impressed. I don't find that shit impressive.
Starting point is 00:13:24 How going to Nikki Beach could be impressive to anyone is a mystery to me. Honestly, having been to Nikki Beach, I'm literally. dumbfounded. It's just that like clouty, oh, and I just think like as someone as well who, whose job is Instagram. We're so hypocritical, by the way.
Starting point is 00:13:43 No, but I don't, I think that's the point. It's like, when you take yourself so seriously that you're trying, we're not trying, we're just out here living our lives, like, throwing our chaotic mess onto Instagram. Yes. We're not trying to curate for anyone or anything. Yes. Especially when boys do that, I think, ick. I, and I do believe.
Starting point is 00:14:01 it is a fundamental personality trait in people that you just cannot change. Yeah. Because they are the attention see, because they are. And this, Girls, is where I'm at a disadvantage because you could, if you had to, burn all of your boyfriend's Invisible Sox. You could.
Starting point is 00:14:16 You could give them to charity. You could set them alight. You could hide them. You could get rid of them. So that is where, you know, I'm the underdog in this final idea. The only thing I will say is that Invisible Sox and tries to hard on Instagram do go hand in hand.
Starting point is 00:14:29 I believe they're the same man. I do. know that the boys that are taking selfies are also wearing invisible socks because they are not enjoy like it's not your like preppy indie happy go lucky boys that are putting in invisible sock on they're just not like skater boys are not wearing an invisible sock do you know what I mean like the boys that aren't interested in you know their algorithm and the way they look on instagram they're also probably not bothered that their white is showing through through their trainer exactly that do you know what I mean and I think what it is with the invisible sog it's so it's so
Starting point is 00:15:01 What it is with the invisible sock is that it's just one of those things that you can't really unsee having seen someone in an invisible sock I totally agree because you'll never imagine their foot any other way than looking a little ballet-esque
Starting point is 00:15:17 There are some things you just simply can't unsee exactly and I do think they're always so thin in invisible sock if you notice that so it's very thin, you can always see the skin through the weird condom material They do look like condoms
Starting point is 00:15:35 Off the foot, especially Condom off the foot Off the foot Yeah, just shriveled in the corner Well also they look so tiny They're kind of expandable aren't they I also don't like about invisible socks They cling to the outline of your foot
Starting point is 00:15:50 Yeah, the ankle area Makes me feel a bit funny And it's like every toe is defined I think I don't need to see that I know I don't like let's just put the whole sock in, the whole foot in the sock and just like let it just...
Starting point is 00:16:02 Yeah. I just think a sock's a sock. Don't reinvent the wheel. I agree. And I do think like the shoes that warrant an invisible sock are not personally my taste. Well I also just think it comes back to being a pussy bitch. It does. What? Because you're afraid of blisters?
Starting point is 00:16:19 Yeah. Where, you know, wear a kind of compede and get over. Wear a compede or don't pick those shoes. Although bit icky, you know, when someone's got a blister past a half hanging off, I do know that. That is literally me every week. Yes. No, no, it is gross.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I was doing adult activity with someone a few weeks, months ago. And he did have a flappy blister plaster and I said to him, I never say sorry, you're going to have to take that off. Just take it off. He was like, really, where will I put it? I was like, I literally couldn't give shit where you put it as long as it's no longer in this bed with us because it's making me feel funny. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:54 So get it off. Thank you. I would rather you had a big blister on your foot. God, so now we've got to decide the winner. I think because you got so passionate and you did go to the extremes. I personally do think... You did snowball bear.
Starting point is 00:17:09 I actually have to backtrack there because I'm going to get some hate. It is not, you know, hashtag not all Instagram tryhards are controlling people in relationships. It's not a correlation. It's not a, and there has been no real, you know, research done into that. No, no. And I am making, you know, claims that would not...
Starting point is 00:17:28 sweeping, sweeping leaps. They wouldn't stand up in court. No. They definitely wouldn't wake it onto the side of like a marketing bottle, do you know what I mean? It's not one. It's not like dermatically tested or whatever. It's absolutely not dermilocks opinions are rarely dermologically tested. So I think take that with a bucket of salt.
Starting point is 00:17:45 I just think my main gripe would try too hot. Like invisible socks I do think you can just check. Like I love Rural so much but he has been my project. And if you told him not to wear invisible socks, he would just like scrap the When I met Rural, he would. was wearing super dry t-shirts, you know what I mean? Hey, no defamation to super dry. Especially not now.
Starting point is 00:18:04 But 25 years on, how long have you been together? It's an up hill battle. He does think specialials are like, you know, really pushing the fucking boat out of the park. Yeah, he thinks he's really driving in his speciality. But I've got like, as in I think that you can change that about someone. Yes. I think that is fundamentally, you know, not a personality trait. It's just a fashion choice.
Starting point is 00:18:23 And can I give a sweeping statement now? I do think with the tries too hard on Instagram, if that's the first thing I see of someone who I'm dating now, I do think, oh, you've got loads of girls in your DMs. Yes. Oh, you're just one of those. And that's also not a direct correlation. I can't prove that because I've not been in their DMs, but I just think it reeks of gaining attention.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And I don't want to compete. Controlling attention, thank you. Controlling attention. It reeks of it. So I think the winner of the World Cup of Ix tries too hard on Instagram. Yes. You see, if you had to vote, not that it would make a team. difference, but what would you have voted for?
Starting point is 00:19:00 Personally, I'd have gone sitting in the bath, but... Yeah, fair. Really? But out of the two, suck. Really? Yeah. I'd like to roll back the tapes, because I think Al gave an excellent, excellent argument for roller coasters.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Rollercoasters, throwback. Throw back. Because I'll never go to a theme park with a boy again. Ever. Because I imagine it now when I think, oh yeah, no, I wouldn't be able to... No, no, no, I would never get down the dirty again. No. Well, brilliant.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Brilliant. You can join us in part two for your galley messages. Okay, galleys, welcome back. Let us start with an email. Let us. Let us. Let us please. Hey, gallies.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I became friends with the receptionist at my gym. Let's call her Gina. Sweet. I invited her out for a Chinese. First date, first friendship date. Chinese is kind of crazy, but I like it. But we never actually made it there. Instead, she came round to my house
Starting point is 00:20:12 for a couple of hours and we mostly chatted about food, love. After that, she started messaging me constantly, sending four or five messages every hour until I replied. If I took a few hours to respond, she deliberately wait the same amount of time before replying back. I'm quite a distant friend because I worked full jobs, so I found it a bit much. Four jobs.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Bloody hell, sister. She's like a Dallas, Cal girl, cowboy, whatever they're called, a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. Have you heard about them? They literally are crazy. Then she started buying my wife, designer hats and other gifts, which felt really strange. A few months later, we went out for dinner where she made comments about mine and my wife's eating habits after also being rude to the waitress. I called her out and told her not to comment on people's food, but after that I started pulling away because I was feeling really uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Even after that, my wife said every conversation Gina had at the gym somehow came back to me. Then she started messaging my cousin loads, despite not seeing her since 2019, and even emailed my workplace asking if she could volunteer with me, telling them we were already friends. I immediately told my boss that was not happening. I eventually blocked her on social media and within two hours she'd message my wife, asking if I'd blocked her and saying she hoped she hadn't upset me. My wife has now blocked her too, and we've even changed gyms. So, galleys, am I being dramatic, or is this giving the start of the stalker?
Starting point is 00:21:34 Should I have just been honest with her instead of blocking her? Bloody hell. Yeah, it's giving stalker. It's giving obsessive. It's giving obsessive. It's giving baby reindeer. I was just about to say it's giving baby reindeer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:48 It really is. It's really, I'm just trying to think if I've ever been in that position where you feel so uncomfortable. And like, you know, when you have that gut feeling that you're like, this is not right and this is not safe, I imagine that's what you will. feeling. Well, I'm like, this is not a friendship. This is giving like odd, odd dynamic from the off. Trust your guard. Like, I think, yeah, to me, that's reading, giving stalker. Also, I think with people like this, like, you can't really meet them with, like, rational conversation. Like, I don't think you should feel bad for just going straight in with a block. Because, like, what, what conversation you're starting? You're not going to be, like, you're giving stalker, so leave me alone. That's not a nice
Starting point is 00:22:31 message to send or receive. So I feel like yeah, technically you could have had a conversation saying I feel like this is getting quite intense and this relationship is becoming one-sided. I think I'm going to take a step back. But then maybe you'll just met with like more and more and more. This is an awful thing to say but you don't really know her. Don't know her anything. I don't think you really like exactly. I don't really think like it's different if she's your friend of 10 years. Yeah and she's getting a bit weird. Yeah. But I don't think that in this instance you owe really. conversation to be heard. Also, sometimes with this, I just think, when it's like, when you, like, think about the worst case scenario and you think baby reindeer, it's like, should I wait and
Starting point is 00:23:14 see if that happens? I think, probably not. I just think, like, why risk it? Why wait and see if this is, like, a full-blown stalker where I can't, like, leave my house without feeling, like, unsafe, go to the gym, like, post things on social media. Like, do you know what I mean? I'm like, Why would you get to that point? And like, it's not like you're saying, oh, her and I had an incredibly like normal, fulfilling relationship and I don't want to lose that. And she, like, turned.
Starting point is 00:23:40 That's not the case. She's always been a little bit off for want of a better word. So I think it's fine to just block block. I agree. And just move on. Agree. New gym. New life.
Starting point is 00:23:54 You know what I mean? New receptionist. Don't go back in anger. Right. Thank you. Just move on. Just move on. sometimes you've got to just let people go.
Starting point is 00:24:02 It's the same with like dating sometimes. You know, sometimes if you like call it off with someone and they come back with like, like relentless, like yeah, but you said that and they start to like get quite. It's like, oh, I've told you how I feel and that is now the end of it. Do you know why I actually hate that?
Starting point is 00:24:19 Because I just think, I've said what I've said and like the fact that you're coming back is actually low key disrespectful to how I've, how I've said all there is to say. In this instance, it's disrespectful. Don't like take the, I just think take the fucking hint. Take the hint. Don't make me block you.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Read the room, my God. But people are very bad at reading rooms. I know. I know. I do often, I was thinking about this the other day. I think, how can you be so unaware of what is happening around you? But a lot of people are. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Like, you know. Also, some people I think like need the conversation. I think there is a space in which it's like the fizzle can actually. actually be really helpful for everyone. Like, not everything means a really big, articulate. Just let it fizzle. Yeah. You don't need, they're not your boyfriend, just let it go.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Sometimes you don't actually need closure. It's like a balloon. You just have to let it go. Yeah, sometimes you just need to let the air out. Yeah. Slowly, slowly, bye-bye. Floating into the distance, never see you again. Yeah, and it's okay that everyone understands.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Like, unless you've got something really you need to get off your chest, especially with a friend that they've hurt you or they've done something that, like, has left you feeling a certain way and you feel like saying it will help you and you just say it once and then you leave it, I do think there's this kind of thing of like either take the hint or understanding that both of us are allowing this to happen.
Starting point is 00:25:39 We're allowing this growth, this space, this distance to build. Maybe that doesn't need to be spoken about. Well, especially if you know that the other person is like not going to respond well. Yeah. Like if you... This girl's not responding well.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Do you know what I mean? Like you can only control what you can control. So even if you have the best intentions of saying something to, I don't know, set boundaries or whatever. If that person's not receiving it well, it's a little pointless. Like, honestly,
Starting point is 00:26:04 just set the boundaries yourself and live by them and just, you know, hope that they catch on really. Yeah, hope that they take the hint. Yeah, because like, there's nothing you can do. So that you don't have to be so firm
Starting point is 00:26:14 that it's like, uncomfortable for everyone. Yeah. Well, you dodged a bullet, my friend. Okay, let's have our first voice note. Hey, Ali and G, um, sort of out the noise on a hot girl walk
Starting point is 00:26:26 trying to decide what the fuck to do. Basically for context. I met my best friend around two years ago at school. Obviously since then, I got to know her family really well over the last two years, two or three years, along with her brother. It's always been a real running joke about the audience. Her brother would get together from my best friend's parents. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:26:46 You know, we've always really got on, and there's always been, like, lots of flirting when we're together, but nothing's ever happened. I can never really work out what my best friend actually thought of the situation because it was always really a joke. I never thought it would actually go any further. However, rewind about two days ago. I was saying at my best friend's house with her boyfriend. Long story short, my best friend says to us,
Starting point is 00:27:08 well, because I'm with my boyfriend, why don't you guys date for 24 hours and see how it would be? Anyway, we end up dating for 24 hours. We've both liked each other for quite a while, but it's like a joke. I love this girl. But also not a joke. Long story short, end up sleeping in the same bed as him. Not a deep convo's.
Starting point is 00:27:26 Oh, God. And basically, as a result, found out, practically in love with this boy. Fuck! And we've both liked each other since we've met. And it's just really awkward because he is my best friend's brother and as cliché as it sounds like I actually am quite in love with him and we genuinely have a connection, I think.
Starting point is 00:27:43 We've also been texting quite a lot since, but like nothing flirty, just like general conversation. And my best friend did know that we were like, obviously flirting, but she thinks that I don't actually really like him. But I don't know how to tell her. Please help me. Oh, Queen. Oh, you're in a world of pain.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Well, I've been here. Let me tell you. This, what's happened here is Adair has turned into reality. Because you weren't in love. She's... Oh, I was. Oh, really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Oh, yeah. Well, the thing is, I will say, I think you've got a bit of get out of jail free car because it was her idea. She's like giving you this, like, you know, whole pass, 24-hour hall pass to do whatever you want. And I think you could just say, sis, will we extend the whole? Yeah. Right. I'm going to speak from experience now because I had exactly this happened to me,
Starting point is 00:28:36 but my best friend was not so thrilled when it actually... Encouraging. Moved from becoming a joke into reality. Like, that wasn't so funny anymore. And listen, I think we're like 10 to 15 years on from when that was happening with me and her brother. and I think she would say now, if we'd have worked out, it would have been a dream come true for her. Like genuinely, if it would have all gone to plan
Starting point is 00:29:05 and we'd have stayed together and I was her sister-in-law and I loved him to this day, I think it would have been her dream come true and everything she could have wished for. Genuinely, I believe that. But if it had gone wrong and if we'd have had a relationship that,
Starting point is 00:29:22 you know, actually arguably it went wrong anyway because we even tried and then his subsequent partners hated the fact that we had been together for all of two minutes when we were 16. So then we did create a kind of quite severe void in which him and I couldn't even be in the same room together. So that outcome was probably worst case scenario and it was really hard for many years.
Starting point is 00:29:48 It's fine now because we're all adults and women live near each other. We rarely have to be in the same room. Her wedding. I didn't say a word to him. so it doesn't matter. But I think it's so hard because I like kind of feel for you and like want you to try. Because why not? I agree.
Starting point is 00:30:04 And you often feel those feelings of love. And I kind of think the risk is actually in this scenario worth the reward. But I think everyone has to be on the same page of the fact that this could cause quite significant damage to relationships if it goes wrong. And I think if you've all signed up for that, sign the waiver. Go forth. I think it depends. Definitely you need to say to her, it was a lull. I've realised it's now not a lull.
Starting point is 00:30:36 You've awoken my dormant feelings. Yeah, and I don't know what to do about this because I can't ignore it and I don't want to. But I also, like, you need to have a really transparent conversation with her. Best case scenario, she's like, Slay. Come on, let's party. Go for it. Try, see what happens.
Starting point is 00:30:50 But I even think if the worst case scenario is you try and you break up, Unless, you know, he cheats on you with 10 other girls, if it is just like a normal breakup and you just happen to like not end up together, I don't think that is... It is the other partners, having lived there. But that's also not out of your... That's not in your control.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Like, that's not your fault. No. Like you, that also is not a given. It's not, but I think you just have to sign up to the fact that his next... If this, God forbid, it all goes wrong, his next girlfriend might not love the fact that you're all the family occasions
Starting point is 00:31:21 and the two of you have shacked, for example. Or you have to make a decision. that if you are going to do that then, next time, if, God forbid, he gets another partner, you're going to take a step back from their family. Like, there has to be some agreement there. It's just knowledge. You know what your, everyone knows,
Starting point is 00:31:36 eyes wide open. The risks. Yeah. Yeah. And then go forth and multiply. I think you should. Yeah. Because also, it's not often that actually we get to experience the tinglings of love. And I will stand by that. And I just think, what a fucking dream
Starting point is 00:31:53 to have your best friend. If it were. It's your sister in your world. It's heaven. Yeah. It's heaven. I think before maybe, actually, hold on a second. Whoa. Before we do any of this, I think maybe you need to just seriously sit with your feelings and you're like,
Starting point is 00:32:06 am I just feeling like so joyful and am I in that obsessive phase because I finally had somewhere to put my feelings? Yeah. Like they haven't just been inside me or do I actually think this has legs? I feel like she probably knows it has legs because also with when it's someone's brother, you do really know them so well not only because you've spent a lot of time around them but also because you know and love your best friend so much
Starting point is 00:32:29 and you also know their family you have so much context on them that I think you can believe your feelings a little bit more do you know what I mean? Yes. That you really do know so much about them. Well maybe you need to like you know see him
Starting point is 00:32:41 a different like does not around his family like date him. Yeah. But that's what I mean. You can't really start without everyone signing up. I think you can have one. You don't need a secret date. Because if it's one secret date, your sister will just, like, your best friend will just be like, how'd it go?
Starting point is 00:32:58 And you'll be like, actually not for me. And then everyone moves on. So I think you just have to all be on the same page. And then I think you can go for it, genuinely. I agree. I think why not? First steps. First, you have a conversation with her and you say hypothetically if I have a conversation with your brother and see if he'll date me.
Starting point is 00:33:13 How do you feel about that and I'll be signed up? Then you go from there. I also, this is quite depressing thing to say. But I have a friend who actually did exactly this. she dated her best friend's brother when we were at school we must have been 16, 17 and they actually did properly date
Starting point is 00:33:30 for like two, three years those two girls aren't now friends anymore so it's like obviously you know, God willing she's in your life forever but like if she is one of your friends that isn't going to be around till you're 80 just try
Starting point is 00:33:43 have the conversation, you know just give it a go if it all goes up in flames like do you know what I mean like I just think unless yeah it's hard to know without like knowing the nature of your relationship but like in the person that I knew as instant, it was very much like, we're at school together,
Starting point is 00:34:00 we do the same classes together, we're best friends. But then also, like, even in my instance, like if it's your best friend, you'll weather the storm, your weather end of the storm. Yeah, of course. So it actually both ways is fine. Of course. Like, you will.
Starting point is 00:34:11 You will weather the storm. I agree. Everyone just has to sign up that it might be a little bit uncomfortable. And, like, you're, I'm sure you will have a conversation with your best friend about, like, boundaries of, like, because even if it goes well. cannot speak to me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:24 About, like, that is my brother. That's gross. I don't want to know about how he goes down on you. Obviously. Like,
Starting point is 00:34:29 you know, yeah, there are boundaries. Because even if it goes well, it can be tricky. Because also even that, like, dividing your time,
Starting point is 00:34:35 like, you go to their house and you kind of don't want to spend time with your best friend. You want to be in his room. Like, there's lots of things
Starting point is 00:34:41 that, like, come up that you just have to, like, have a good, like, open line of communication from them. One of rules,
Starting point is 00:34:47 I can't, sorry, I don't know why I've forgotten this. One of all's best friends, like oldest friends. His, he has been together with his younger sister's best friend for four or five years,
Starting point is 00:34:59 they will get married. Love. And like, obviously they're all living the fucking dream. Yeah. But the nature of the girl's relationship did change. Yeah. And that's okay. And that's okay.
Starting point is 00:35:08 But you have to know that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. I think it's, I look at the three of them. I think, guys,
Starting point is 00:35:15 you've got it so fucking good. Well, you've voiced note us and let us know how it goes, because it can be heaven. Heaven. Okay, it's now time for the galley gossip. This is where the galleys can message in and we will respond and, you know, it's like touch stuff.
Starting point is 00:35:31 We're not getting heavy here. It's goss. It's goss. It's a gnatur. And please keep them coming because we know that everyone loves the galley gossip. We apparently, the most inbound messages we have are for the galley gossip. So please keep them coming. What a sleigh from producer is he adding the galley gossip.
Starting point is 00:35:47 So may I just say. Flowers for you, Queen. Snaps to that. Snaps to that. Okay, we've had an email from Evie, who's in full maid of honour panic mode. Whoa. Hi, Ali and G, I absolutely love the pod.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Thank you for making my Wednesdays. I need your help. We're here to help. Always. My best friend has asked me to be her maid of honour, which means I'm in charge of planning her hen do. She wants a hot, a broad hen in September 2027, but I'm completely out of my depth.
Starting point is 00:36:16 She's very type A. I'm very type B and I hate planning. Oh dear. On top of that, I've just got engaged myself. Congrats. Oh, girls, you get to do it at the same time. That's so nice. I'm jealous.
Starting point is 00:36:29 And we're trying to buy our first house, so my brain is already full. She loves relaxing by the pool with a book but would also want to go out most nights. Have either of you been on a hendie that really stood out? I'd love some destination or activity ideas because I want to make it amazing for her. For reference, I have touched a picture of us both.
Starting point is 00:36:45 She is on the right. Oh, my God. Oh, God. That's so gorgeous. thing I've ever seen. Oh my God, look at you with your rings, and the apparel, the empty apparel. Love it, girls.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Guys, we had this conversation yesterday. Al's like literally never been on... I've never been on her. She's never been on her hair. She's never been invited. Wait. Hend too. I was invited.
Starting point is 00:37:04 You did. You went on a day hen. I went on one day hen and then I got invited on the supplementary hen. You know when people have... The English hen. Or the day. The one day.
Starting point is 00:37:13 With the family. With the family. For the be less friends. Thank you. I was invited to the realest hen, yeah. I've been on a few hands. Other than that, I've not... I was thinking about, I think, where are all my friends?
Starting point is 00:37:26 I genuinely don't know where your friends are. I went on two hens in one year, and I'm going on a third this year. Okay, my cousin did a really good abroad hen. We stayed, we went to Spain, and we stayed along, like, the Costa del Sol, so not in Marbeia, a bit further down the coast, towards, like, Sotomay. Rande, Alcaresa, which is really like small, quaint, like, seaside town vibes, but really nice restaurants. And then you can get a car and go out in Marbea. So you kind of have, like, the best of both worlds.
Starting point is 00:38:04 One thing we should say from the off, planning a hen is hell and horror. Just like, get ready. You need to know that it is like, especially for a type B queen, it's a lot of girls that you're maneuvering. My main thing is, you know, can you trim the list? I would always trim the list. Trim the list. You could always have a V-list hem. Don't ever forget.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Always do a one-day English hen. Supplementary hen. If you want a broad hen, I'm literally just saying bridesmaids. Genuinely, I believe that. And like, all the hens I've gone on haven't done that. So, whoops. Actually, maybe Steph's was just bridesmaids,
Starting point is 00:38:37 but she had so fucking loads of bridesmaid. She had so fucking men. My God. Fuck me. Stephanie Van Doning, I'm ever so sorry. They're not your actual friends. It is bullocks. She will hate to hear that.
Starting point is 00:38:48 If you want to beef me, let's go for it, I'm not buying that you have that many people that you would know. You should have seen her UK hen. There was 30 of us. There was body for. I mean, it's just ridiculous. We went away for a weekend and there were 30 people on that Hindu.
Starting point is 00:39:03 I honestly, guys. And you've not even been invited on one. So what's gone wrong there? I wasn't even invited to Stephs. Do you know what I mean? Didn't even make it to Stats? She had 30. She had a big, wide net.
Starting point is 00:39:12 And I wasn't even in that net. had more than bridesmae, because Faye didn't have that many bridesmae, she had more than bridesmaes on her. I think that's what I'm going to do though. I'm going to have like three rides on me, Holly. Me, Holly, Roar is it? Your bares on your hen. Is that it?
Starting point is 00:39:28 Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a lot. And like Rachel, my friend is planning her sister's hen at the moment, which I'm going on next week. Her brisemes are really good and really tight-paced. They're really helping. But it is like managing the group chat, telling people what they need to pack, booking the flights, like booking people's luggage, booking the transfers,
Starting point is 00:39:45 like managing expectations of how much it's going to cost. So I think if you can just like sit one night whilst you've got Love Island on and just break down everything. And I do genuinely believe that less is more. Like I think everyone thinks it needs to be the most full, itinery filled. I completely agree. I think you need some days to just let people like leave. Lie by the fucking pool and just chill.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Do like one night, definitely do a night in. it's so fun when you all cook together and maybe you do like a quiz like we did a really fun quiz for I can't remember it must have been fair but everyone sent in boys that they'd like either snogged or shacked and we did it like would I lie to you so the picture of the boy would come up and then three girls would stand and tell you why and when they snogged or shagged them that is so high and it's the only one of them had which was so fun and like we spent all night doing that getting so pissed but this is why I think having a smaller group is better because like if you have a big group you have like not you have to do a night in you you
Starting point is 00:40:42 you have to. Whereas like if there are only five or six of you, you could get easily get a table. Yeah. And so you can just like roll out like just loosely planning. I agree. I do actually like the outfits. I genuinely do because I think it's helpful. I agree. For like packing and just like then you know like what you're doing. One thing I would say is if you can, I know your type B, but if you can try your best to budget from the beginning because what I really hate about Hens is like all of the surprise costs. I think people think it's going to cost X and then they get down to it and they're like, oh shit, I haven't thought about getting from the airport. And like if you just lay it out from the second...
Starting point is 00:41:17 Then people can say yes or no. And then everyone knows what they're signing up for. Doesn't matter how much that is. Just say, this is the max it's going to be. Plus whatever you spend when you're there. Yeah. Because I do, I just low-key hate that. I just think you want to make it like a really fun
Starting point is 00:41:31 girly holiday that centres around that friend. Yeah. Like you want it to feel like her, all the things she loves. Like you could even do something so fun. Like if she loves to read by the pool, why don't you get everyone the same book? And you could all be reading the same book for the weekend
Starting point is 00:41:45 and then you can all like talk about the book. Like, shit, like it's tiny. I think the thing about itinery is a really good point because like even on a wedding weekend, like people think that every minute of every day has to be itineried. Like genuinely, let's get there and do fuck all all day. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:01 You know, especially if you're like getting an, I always think that first day, if you're getting an early flight, everyone's going to want to chill. Don't make lunch plans. Don't make any reservations until late. Like, let everyone. Everyone just like, also you're on a hot, like, you can just lie by the pool, have drinks and have an ice time.
Starting point is 00:42:16 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, that is the dream. You only need one night out. If you're doing a big weekend, I think maybe too. But like, don't do it for the sake of doing it. Yes. Also, do one really good one and then just allow space for an accidental one to happen. Or like a day drinking one.
Starting point is 00:42:30 Do you know what I mean? Just you can do it, sis. You just need to sit down and write like a, I know type B's hate a list, but you need a list, sis. I hate to tell you. Sorry, my other idea, if it's not too expensive, depending on where you're going, is a boat day. I love a boat day. That is really fun.
Starting point is 00:42:47 It's really fun. It's special. It is special. You don't do that often. Yeah. I love a boat day. But that's a whole day. Done.
Starting point is 00:42:53 You literally put the boat and that's it. Smash it. You don't have to do anything. Get everyone to wear blue. Do you know what I mean? You literally tell the captain drive around and make us drinks. End of. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:02 And can we have a food platter. Yeah. Thank you. And you swim in the sea. And then you can come home and do you like drinks and dinner at the like wherever you're saying. Easy. Like work.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Yeah. Love. Good luck, babe. Let us know how it goes. And hopefully she's going to plan yours in return. Yeah. If you want to get involved in next week's Galley Gossip, send us a DM on Insta or drop us a comment on YouTube or Spotify to be featured.
