Starting point is 00:00:55 The faster money and data move, the further your business can go to a seamless digital future for Canadians. Let's go faster forward together. In Life, Interact. As we enter this new political reality, one that is very far to the right, it is very much a MAGA agenda, which is unlike anything we've ever seen before, even
Starting point is 00:01:25 more so than the first Trump presidency. It's important that we all stick together and look for glimmers of hope and look for ways that we can make positive change, because four years is a long time and it's a country that we all live in and we have to make sure that we make it as good as possible for everyone Who knows maybe having control of the house and the Senate and the White House and the Supreme Court all three branches of government maybe the the backlog and the Traffic jam, whatever you want to call it in Washington DC. Maybe it'll finally be be
Starting point is 00:02:02 traffic jam, whatever you want to call it in Washington, DC, maybe it'll finally be closed for certain issues. Maybe the economy will get better. Certainly we all want that, right? And we all want to be safe. We all want to prosper. We all want hope. And so while there's going to still be a lot of resistance to protect our rights, things, especially for women,
Starting point is 00:02:25 abortion, et cetera. And there's a lot of resistance that will be in place so that our rights don't get taken away from us. Hopefully it is not all bad and all negative. Hopefully it'll be less chaotic and hopefully it'll be more of a path towards prosperity, which is what he says, right? One of the things Donald Trump talks about, make America great again. Who doesn't want America to be great?
Starting point is 00:02:54 Right. So I say all this, it's hard for me to get these words out, but I'm trying to find some glimmer of hope. And, and I preface what I'm about to say with all of that because the appointment of Suzy Wiles as his chief of staff seems to be a glimmer of hope by all accounts across both aisles. She is somebody who is a sober choice.
Starting point is 00:03:19 She is not team crazy. She is somebody who apparently helps him tame his worst instincts. I don't know her. I don't know much about her. And frankly, I had to read up about her when he appointed her to be his chief of staff because first of all,
Starting point is 00:03:42 that's the most important role in Washington. It's the boss of the entire presidential staff, right? She's everybody's boss. She's the chief of the staff. And so to get to Donald Trump, to get on his agenda, she, it's, you have to go through her. Now, obviously some people will go around her and they'll try to go around her and she'll pick her battles. Apparently that's
Starting point is 00:04:06 her reputation is she knows when to pick her battles. She knows when not to and do it at your own peril. This is a woman who seems like a tough as nails. She's not one to speak out publicly apparently and she stays focused and she gets the job done. And she doesn't seem like she's one of the team crazy MAGA dangerous people, because we know there are a lot of them. And so hopefully, she will keep some sanity and she will hopefully keep the policies in the White House, ones that aren't dangerous for our country, that aren't anti-women. I mean, the fact that he chose women, I think is also a good sign that he's trying to send a message. And look, I am as upset and hurt and angry as almost anybody, but I refuse
Starting point is 00:05:01 to allow this to destroy our country. And so please don't take my trying to look at the positive as in any way throwing in the towel, we will not stop fighting. But I do wanna call it like I see it. And I do think this is a good choice compared to some of the choices. Hopefully she'll last. He went through what four or five chiefs of staff
Starting point is 00:05:24 in his last iteration. She is she she does not like Ron DeSantis. I think that's also a good sign because he I think is also a dangerous evil person. And and so that's that's a good sign. And you know, there's a couple other things that are really interesting. I remember her coming up in the Mar-a-Lago documents case. She was referred to in the indictment and it appears like she told the truth to the government. And again, if she's an honest person and she's she's somebody who's trying to do the right thing, even if we disagree politically on certain issues, that's what our democracy is, right? Our democracy is you vote for the policies that you
Starting point is 00:06:17 prefer and the majority wins, the majority electoral college wins, and even if you disagree with the policies that one, we all live together, and we need to try and convince people and win over hearts and minds. So the next time around, our position, hopefully we'll win. But you know, obviously, and one of the reasons everybody gets so frustrated, and I get frustrated is Donald Trump doesn't live by that. He doesn't abide by that, right? He tried to steal the election when he lost.
Starting point is 00:06:51 He is not one to lose fair and square. But that doesn't mean we should turn into that. That doesn't mean we should become that person. Like I said, we're not going to stop resisting. I am heartened by the fact that there are plenty of political action, legal groups out there. The ACLU took out a full page ad in the New York Times today, essentially assuring people. It gave me hope. I tweeted about it, that they're out there and they're watching and they are strategically going to utilize the court system wherever is necessary to protect the human rights violations that Trump talked about
Starting point is 00:07:28 and the things that he said he was going to do on the campaign trail. And look, a lot of people say, oh, he didn't mean it. He's not going to do it. And I hope to God they are right. And I hope to God for our country and for the people in this country that Suzy Wiles will be somebody who keeps him on track and doesn't allow him to do those terrible things that he talked about, like taking out vengeance on his political enemies and going after them and mass deportations, abortion. I mean, you name it. There's a lot of and mass deportations, abortion, I mean, you name it. There's a lot of scary things that Project 2025, in particular, now that people are coming out and saying,
Starting point is 00:08:12 this is what we're going to do, now we can say it out loud. Hopefully again, she'll be the sober grownup in the room. Thank you MiracleMate for sponsoring this episode. Have you ever noticed by the way that Donald Trump likes two types of women, then he keeps them by his side? One are those MAGA cult women who all look alike.
Starting point is 00:10:24 They all have that same hairdo, you know, that they all have the same plastic surgeon and hairdo. Look at Don Jr.'s fiance, Kimberly Guilfoyle. They all kind of have that same look. But then there's another type of woman and they all kind of look like Suzy Wiles. They're all women of a certain age. They are women who, and they stay with him forever.
Starting point is 00:10:47 And one of them testified for him at the Manhattan D.A. criminal trial, and she's been with him for 40 years. She's very interesting that he does keep a lot of women by his side. And Susie Wiles is somebody that he has now tapped to be his highest, the highest person in Washington and the first woman. And so back to the Mar-a-Lago documents case, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:15 she doesn't come up in the indictment by name, but she comes up in two instances in the case. So one of them in one of them, you know, she was referred to as a political action committee employee because, so it says, so let me just read to you this oblique reference to Suzy Wiles in the Mar-a-Lago first indictment, because don't forget there was a superseding indictment when they added Carlos de Oliveira. The first one only had Waltine Nauda.
Starting point is 00:11:50 So in August or September of 2021, when he was no longer president, Trump met in his Bedminster Club office with a representative of his political action committee, the PAC representative during the meeting. That's her, by the way, according to all the reporting. During the meeting, Trump commented that, by the way, according to all the reporting during the meeting, Trump commented that an ongoing military operation in country B was not going well.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Trump showed the PAC representative a classified map of country B and told the PAC representative that he should not be showing the map to the PAC representative. And to not get too close, the PAC representative did not have security clearance or any need to know classified information about the military operation. and to not get too close, the PAC representative did not have security clearance or any need to know classified information about the military operation. He was waving classified country B that we don't know what it is map that has not been identified, waving it around in front of her. Has Jack Smith know that? She must have testified and testified truthfully about it
Starting point is 00:12:42 and that was included in the indictment. And again, she's somebody who seems to have at least certain moral standards. At least she's honest. At least she is somebody who tries to tell the truth. And again, that's heartening. Hopefully she'll last. Then in the superseding indictment, there's a reference to her again,
Starting point is 00:13:02 where it says just over two weeks after the FBI discovered classified documents in the storage room and Trump's office on August 26, 2022, Nauta called Trump employee number five and said words to the effect of, someone just wants to make sure Carlos is good. In response, Trump employee number five told Nauta that de Oliveira was loyal
Starting point is 00:13:22 and that de Oliveira would not do anything to affect his relationship with trump that same day at nauta's request trump employee five confirmed in a signal chat group with nauta and the pac representative that de oliviera was loyal that same day trump called de oliviera and told him that trump would get him an attorney so again none of these references to her to the PAC representative suggests that they were concerned with her or that they thought she did anything wrong. It's really that she was in the room that he revealed things to her and she was
Starting point is 00:13:55 actually a potential witness at trial. And it kind of, I think really signals that she is an honest broker. So in this world of scary things and the world we now live in, having an honest broker as his right-hand person, I think is the best we could hope for. And so I think it's a positive sign. Hopefully there will be more positive signs and hopefully our country will be a better place or at least won't be a terrible place. I almost don't even know how to say it. But I'm trying to look at the bright side and I will always tell you my honest
Starting point is 00:14:43 feelings. These are my feelings about her. I tell you when it's opinion and I tell you when it's fact. And this is my opinion about this particular choice. Let's see if she lasts and let's see if they actually accomplish the things that they say they're gonna accomplish, at least some of them. And hopefully they are prevented from accomplishing
Starting point is 00:15:08 the dangerous and unlawful, illegal, scary ones. So when you hear, I'm not the person who's gonna just always say, oh, everything is terrible, everyone is terrible, and everything is bad, and everyone is bad. This is my thoughts on Suzy Wiles as a choice. And I'll tell you when I think the choices are a lot worse because they are to come.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I think he's starting with the good one, the best one, because there's some really scary names out there that are being dropped. And I'll tell you about those two when I hear about them. I'll end with the fact that the Marla-Lago documents case of all the cases. Jack Smith is reported to wind them all down and he the two cases that that Jack Smith has Jan six and Mar-a-Lago and we might not ever know what the evidence is in the Mar-a-Lago case because there will never be a trial. The case was dismissed by Judge Cannon. It's on appeal. I think that the they're going to wind it down.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Who knows if the Justice Department will continue the case against De Oliveira and Nauta. It doesn't really matter if they do or not or try to appeal that because Trump, I'm sure, will pardon them on the first day in office. So that case is going nowhere. And the thing that's upsetting about it is we'll never truly know what the facts are because there was no trial. Unlike the January 6 case where although there was the January 6 select committee, it was almost like a trial. We do know what those facts are.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Obviously, Jack Smith had many more facts. Who knows if he'll do a report like he's supposed to do. And who knows if he does a report about January 6th or this case, whether we'll ever see them, because this one has a lot of classified information and classified documents. So we might not ever actually know what the actual facts are of this case
Starting point is 00:16:55 because it's going away fairly quickly. I'm Karen Freeman-Egnefilo. I'm co-host on Legal AF and Miss Trial. And I hope you continue watching us.
