Welcome to Legends of Aventress. I'm Felix Ackerman, and you're listening to Beneath Dark Wings. Here's what happened last time. Thousands of soldiers on either side are still clashing, blooming over you. What? No way. What?

He is getting weak. We shall win this day. You attack the wrong city devil, and he flies upward. And as he literally trunks the shit, like Frisa and trunks, As he's slicing forward on the Moloch, as Moloch is teleporting up higher and higher. Now 120 feet above you. They begin to have an anime battle in the sky. As he smashes down, his wings no longer there.

You look up and you see now that Zerun is looking down. His face now return to normal. The massive form of Moloch crumbles to the ground. Massive pillar of flame, erupts out of him and Zern has to dodge out of the way and suddenly you hear the banging of war drums Bar for Matt, Bar for Matt, Bar for Matt, Barthormat, Barthor Matt. You then look behind you and Zern his eyes are wide with furious anger and the trees begin to shake. An enormous bullhead rising well over the tree line. All of the beasts are in

inspired and let out a roar in exchange, and they thunder into the forest, and the massive bullhead turns and begins to stop away. I believe that they have done what they sought to do. They sacrificed that creature. Or should I say we sacrificed that creature? And now they have risen that bull beast and are going to fulfill whatever duty they actually have. We've been dupe friends. You begin to sprint back towards Central. You all have just defeated Moloch with the help of High General Zern, who underwent a crazy transformation and showcased his power and assisted you. However, you brought him down all the same. And- Can you put a new bit in the map chamber?

And it looked as if Moloch had been expecting some kind of help. However, when you brought him down, there was great chanting to Baphomet as, Pillars of fire went out as the Iron Legion began treating, and you saw the physical manifestation, the massive miniature, Baphimet, emerge from the forest and turn away and walk back into the clockwood as the rest of the Horn Legion, fairly decimated by the battle that had just happened. The remnants escaped, and High General Zern ordered a full retreat. As you all made your way across the battlefield, Toil carrying Zern along the way, he said, I'm fine, I'm fine. And you let him down, and he walked the rest of the way,

polishing himself up a little bit, trying to fix his hair, casting some magic to heal his wounds with some assistance from the party. the heavy gates of Zentra close shut behind you as soldiers immediately swarm officers swarm around the high general and as they almost whisk him away he turns and says i would call for you when i am ready we have much to discuss I must recover and think I will send my ravens to scourge their movements and immediately he gets west away

encircled by officers and soldiers and gets escorted to the citadel of the Queen's conclave as well as the rest of you you get circled by guards and you marks through the city most of the buildings are most of the shutters on all the buildings

the shutters are shut they're peaking behind alleyways horrified men women children all looking unsure if they were truly safe as the soldiers around you seem to be relieved that the battle is over and that they had survived,

but totally unsure and confused about the nature of the emergence that it just happened. You make your way, you see the huge citadel rising above you, and you continue to make your way, you're let into the inner gate after making way all the way through the seven heavens, and you hear the clang of the gate shut behind you, and your escort all the way up through the citadel. and you are led to your quarters. As you hear the shouting of soldiers,

you see the heavy artillery, some completely destroyed by the machines, all being reloaded and brought off for repairs. And you see that the entire city is effectively on lockdown. As every soldier is on high alert, you are escorted to your quarters and the door opens and the soldier, the officer, that guides you to,

is that same young female officer that had been leading you around during your questioning. And she had survived the battle, a large slice across her cheek. As she, as soon as the high general calls for you, we will comfort you. Rest and recover. We will send healing if you need.

Do we just stay here? Yes. Those are my otus. Can I help with a wall or anything like that? It seems like there's some open parts that may need some reinforcement. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand. We have our top Zentrian artisans on the job. Okay, well just let me know.

Before I didn't need to cut you off there. The abyssal is obviously a devil language. Demon. Demon language. Yeah, infernal is the opposite. Okay. Sorry, I always mix this up. The Beastmen. Do we have any knowledge, any of us, have any knowledge of what language is the Beastmen might be spoken? or have we heard them speak abyssal or infernal? You've heard them speak abyssal. Okay. Okay. predominantly this will be one in Miss Crow's Crossing was also able to speak infernal. To Caprice. Gotcha. Right, right. Okay. Man, that was a lot. That really sucked. We had to kill him. We had no choice. I think they knew that we had to find him. I think that was the point to him. And so I think we did the right thing. I agree. I don't believe that Anubis would have blessed us the way that he did during that fight. If he did not agree that we were fighting for the greater good.

I got to wonder, though, if there was something about us, were we the ones that had to do that? Or couldn't the Beastmen have just killed Moloch? Why us? I think that it had to do with the treachery. If you looked in his eyes, you could see that he did not expect them to stay on the fringes of the battle. They expected him to follow suit and join him in the midst of it to keep him protected, but they did not.

It is for that reason that I believe his sacrifice was what they needed. And looking out on that battlefield, too, it sounds like a lot of them were dead. A lot of them were killed, so a lot of them were sacrificed. It might have needed to be one of those unknowing, unwilling sacrifices. It's hard to tell, to be honest. I'm kind of glad. I don't love that they use that to their advantage, but, you know, his surprise in his face and the fact that he, you know, you guys all heard what was going on in his belly. It's, it's, it's, I relish a little bit in the irony. At the end of the day, it boils down to children

were being destroyed. They were being killed. Yeah. For him. And... We'll never be able to get them back. No, we will not, but many a child will live and grow and have a wonderful life now that he has been returned to nothingness. Do you think we freed their souls at least? I sure hope so, too.

I hope so, too. I have faith in an individual. Anubis that he would not let the souls remain torment in that creature. The priest, do you know anything about that, about how souls work, and if they're trapped, if we kill the thing? When I know anything about that? I would say, O'Connor, a religion check. Both? Or.

Preference. Do we have any reason to believe that the children's sacrifices was only a Moloch thing, or do we have any sense that the sacrifices may continue to go on in? You know, for Boston. Eight. I would say, to answer your question, Iris, that you know that souls go to a, when they die, they go to a general, the feud plane before when they die, and then they're basically ferried off to the various realms.

When they're captured, it's uncertain whether or not they've been released, but I would say you could probably guess that you had at least be. got in the process of releasing them. They were no longer in Moloch. To answer your question, I would say that it would be, you didn't need a role in me. You guys would have gathered

that all of the sacrifice of children seem to be related to Moloch. What was your question to me, Tau? It's about if you know anything about demons or devils, are they trapped forever? Are they just gone? Well, Toa

is a cleric of a nubis it is my job to ferry souls into the afterlife. And in a situation like this, the souls had been trapped inside of Morocco. They are no longer trapped there. But I do not know where they have traveled to. And it is my hope that with the Nubis fighting along our side that he helps to guide them to a place far better

than from whence they were trapped. Let your mind rest. I certainly hope so. I just... I'm just glad. Let him protect the city. And that was our goal when we did that. But the question that you ask, Caprice, outside of the soul portion, I think is very, very good.

23. You know that devils and demons have been their mortal nemesy and it was very surprising that Molok had been allied allegedly with Baphomet. You probably got a few answers now. And I would say that your dream

would probably give you a little bit of additional context with that. As far as whether you know that souls are basically used as currency, They're used for power. They're useful for trade. They're used to fuel magic. Souls are basically the shared general currency for the lower plane and the enemy on. Wolf. Well, I mean, I know that devils and demons don't get along. It's part of the reason why I studied the Bissell in the very first place is I wanted to sort of get to know the enemy of my enemy sort of type deal. I'm not a fan of devils and I look at my person. I mean, I have a fiendish heritage. So I invested as much as I could to try and protect myself in this life. So it just seems crazy that all this time we're like,

oh, they're working together and then we, we, the Moloch gets summoned and then we kill him and it's like, oh, they wouldn't working together the whole time. It's like it's just exactly what we should have expected. It was some kind of betrayal. That is my perception of events as well. The fact that that they didn't come through the tree line and they clearly sort of expected this. He expected them to sort of bolster his ranks and they pulled the rug out from underneath them. It's exactly the kind of thing a chaotic demon would do and it's exactly the kind of trust that a devil wouldn't employ. And Tua, I have a question for you. Had you known that this was going to work out exactly as it did, would that have stopped you?

knowing that at the end of the day Moloch was still going to be sacrificed to them but that thousands of lives in the city would have been forfeit in doing so or would you still have marched out there and been as heroic as you were? I think we needed to stop him we had to protect the city

and we did for now I'm just worried that we made it worse in the long term that's all we probably did but there was no way for us to protect that we did and that was the point I was making don't you think it would have been far worse, that we stood back.

They were going to let that happen regardless, whether it was the military at the gates or us out there on the front line. They were going to let him fall. But thousands more would have died to see it happen. If we had not been there to stop it. It was going to happen, and the most of we can do is thank Nubis

that he allowed so many lives to be saved today. I agree with you There was a tiny window there Right towards the end When I thought about yelling out to him And being like, hey Your buddies aren't joining you What if you stop? What if we all stop?

He's a devil You could have made me listen to reason But I think we did the right thing I don't believe he would have Believed it It didn't seem until the very end That he Realized what was happening

And at that point He could have left he could have flown into the air and he could have tried to escape but he didn't he continued to fight well I imagine he's pretty furious in hell right now can you reason with the devil

is this something you can do was that even an option? What they did obviously I wouldn't be able to tell you I think the question that stands now is what do we do going from here

we saw them march in the exact opposite direction away from the city. We know the city is no longer, at least for now, in need of our help. And with someone as powerful as Zern, they'll, it should be fine, should he heal up properly. Do we follow them? What do we do?

Well, we really have to hypothesize here. What is their next move? You know, are there any nearby resources or places of interest that they might head to? I would be honest, they surprised if they were done with Zentra. Which direction did they retreat to, Diem? They headed directly south. They attacked from the south and they just went back into the

forest. You didn't see anything beyond that. I wouldn't be surprised if they still want Zentra to fall. I, oddly enough, think that they're, I don't think they chose Zentra because they wanted to fall. I think they chose Zentra because it was the most militarized. of all of the cities and they knew if there was going to be any city that could take down Molok it was going to be this one I think you're right it's so what you're saying is that it didn't matter which city it was they needed to attack a city they could kill Molok and this was the one most likely to succeed yes and I believe if they had wanted to take the city I truly believe that those underground tunnels might have been a way to infiltrate the

inside of the city in the hopes of also attacking Moloch with cover and not necessarily to take the city down though I could be wrong though that doesn't happen but I'm not but I'm probably not though I could be what time is it it is I would say it's probably evening at this point just after sunset the sun was setting as as Baphomet walked out walked away and then it's probably and set at this point. It takes a while to get to the city. You march pretty much, you know, and shaken silence for a while. I'll walk over to one corner and start to sort of tune my, are we taking a short rest here, guys? Are we just sitting until we find out what? I would like to.

I think we're turning in for the night. I mean, have we had dinner? I don't know if I can eat after that. And I don't think they're going to let us leave. We're probably under strict surveillance I mean, I have no interest in consuming food tonight. I will fast in honor of those that fell today. Well, do you know any songs in the monarchy? She does have to rest and she does need sustenance. Yeah. So however long that may take. Got it. And I would just know if she broke at a certain point, didn't make it. But I'm going to just send her south to scout and look for any sign of potential survivors from the sacrifices. You summon Beatrice. She, larger than average, bluebird, peers in the air, lands on your finger.

You communicate with her, as you will. And she nods in understanding. And you open the window. And with a flutter, she's gone. on and she begins, thank you. Thank you, Derek. As she flies out, you see her almost gets swept up in a huge flock of ravens as they're flying and swirling around this high up and then she continues to fly out south and out of sight. Well, I think, shall we just jam for a bit and then go to bed?

And then, yes, I will... I think before I go to bed, I'm going to lay out my kind of four figurines in the direction. directions of the north, south, east, west. I'm going to put my conch shell in the middle of it and just sort of kind of say, just remember all of the potential small children that were sacrificed. And just sort of say a prayer, almost like reflecting on my regret for not being able to do more. Got it. I'm going to study abyssal for an hour before I got to sleep.

I'll probably crack a window and try to like wipe off as much as my armor as possible as to not disturb Iris and not smell really awful as I probably have like little tufts

of eight fur. I have I have incense that I keep tucking into different areas of her body that she doesn't realize. I've already lit and it's just burning but like tucked into different areas. It's in my ass crack right now. I was just gonna say that. She like sticks a cinnamon stick in your butt crack. I like it and then I go through my ritual.

In any of my studies becoming a wizard, would I have any knowledge or any understanding of like reclaiming? a soul and putting it back in his body. Great. So, you are all with a grim sense of what just happened. You all drift off to sleep. Oh, boy, here they come. And, Caprice, as darkness sets off, you are enveloped by some. sleep. And then you fast forward, and the child grows up. And you get old with your love and pass. And your child is a proud adult thinking fondly of her parents. And as she smiles and looks at you as you witness this dream. She smiles softly and the smile grows wider and wider till it peels back into a row of sharp teeth and she explodes into shadow and all that remains is a feminine silhouette with narrow white eyes that swirls around you and you remember this shape from your previous dream.

Oh, preach. Did. You think it was all over? No, I... You said before, I had hoped that it was just a dream. You said before that this is gonna take some time, and I... We took care of Molok.

We took care of him. He's done now. We're probably gonna do it anyway. So the stars aligned in this case, everything's fine, everything's good. And you did so well. Right? And I really didn't think you could do it.
