Welcome to Legends of Aventress. I'm Felix Ackerman and you're listening to Beneath Dark Wings. Here's what happened last time. Last time. You're so good. On Beneath Dark Wings, you all narrowly avoided an immediate apocalypse after witnessing the culmination of Pizzou's plan with a final parting gift from the now-deceased Virgil Zern. A curse of the Raven Queen, buying you time.

You've no idea how much. You attempted to teleport away from the dread domain of Harkir, using Caprice's tuning fork, which you hoped was tuned to the prime material plane. Doof. Classic mistake. We got duped like three or four times in a row last session. Like real bad. Real bad.

It turns out, that's a big dummy. was attuned to Bautor the nine hells, and you arrived in the chambers of the Lord of Lies, the one who has taken over ownership of Caprius's soul. He revealed several things that Pizzou is making his move. He has violated their agreement to basically maintain the blood war between demons and devils to basically have a constant state of death and souls.

and that it was revealed that Pizzou himself was the one who drove Thar's Dune Mad, as well as whispered in his ear to fall from grace and become a devil. And the agreement was to put an end to Pizzou and the Oberoth lords attempting to do whatever it is they're trying to do, create an apocalypse across the ventras. because complete apocalypse is bad for business for devils. And... I'm not up on my devilish economy. How are we going to pay our souls mortgage?

Without if all the mortals are devoured by demons, there's no souls to trade with them, no souls to... That's fair. The whole economy will crash. As but... There was a soul bubble, and it was bound to pop. I feel like the nine hills is too big to fail. Would there be terrible sinflation?

As with days, it's just Alan Green spam. The Nighthouse is just the fed. Shakes. Anyways, you all then, he cleansed Herja and Torval, sent them back off to the Gisselpaul Mountains in Yona, safe and sound. And it is, with that, that he returned you to Barovia, where you resurrected Sophia,

the Vestani monster hunter that had been slain. You returned Valeska, her daughter, and Milo. They were all recuperating from their horrific experiences at the hands of the spider princess, Ravanovia von Zaravich. And it's with that that you basically made certain plans. you warned everyone of the incoming influx of demons and the apocalypse that you believe was inevitable that was coming soon.

A bit of strange conflicting information. Strange conflicting information from Zentra. Everyone else, however, made sure that they would prepare the best they could. Oh, yeah, that was bullshit. And they decided to go check on Castle Romornia to visit their old friend Escher. And they met Major Domo Brutus

who welcomed them with open arms. They were very excited to see him, and he was very excited to see them. And he helped them investigate the castle, leading them to a dark chamber, which was a trap. I've never felt more betrayed. Yeah, he's a little prick. I'm going to pun to put him like a football. I never saw it coming. I didn't think he had it in him.

I didn't either. I trusted him. He's a construct of a measure, right? Yeah, he's literally just like a puppet. He literally does not have. free will. You now realize that he is not afforded

the same level of free will as many humanoid races are. I've got no strings to hold me. And this moment is where you find yourself at the center of Escher's personal quarters, the coffin before you

empty, filled with a air of dirt, the lid ajar and alchemical ruins, a cranking machinery all around you as 12 gargoyles surround you, animate, and lunge forward. They never roll for initiative. No, we're good. We're all right. Place for minis and just place. Can I choose not to do that?

Place these 12. I don't feel aggressive, current. Aggressive? Oh, you son of a bitch. did the same thing, I had a great roll and bounce off the phone. You said, can I not? Can I choose not to? Here's a little worse. Did we get to the center of the room, Mike?

Yes, you all took a look at it was very dark and you went to go. Sort of randomly scatter us about. I don't have anything that does a thing for that, you know. It's kind of just wandering. Every character, I'm like, do I have anything to hell my initiative?

Okay, it's with that that all 12 of these gargoyles are going to lunge forward, and they're hulking, they're towering over to you, they're even bigger than you, Toa. As they leap forward, all with different designs, it's very clear that Escher, in his decades of boredom would spend a lot of time just working on his art, and he became a very good sculptor. But these sculptures now are

trying to attack you as they're always going to get attacks on you. So just move everybody up. And I am going to roll three dice. They have a triple attack. Jesus. Triple? Yeah. Oh, I, fuck you, Mike. Fuck you, Mike. So I'm going to roll on. I didn't mean that. That was mean.

Did you armor your mage? You mean like, mage armor? Yeah. Yeah, I, you always do that? I always keep a slot basically checked off for it. So I'm going, so on Felix, I'm just gonna roll 19, 21, and 12. All shield, all miss. Okay, and that on you, they all miss. Okay, so the gargles on you miss.

We're gonna roll for Caprice. That on you. I have no reaction, though. There's two on Caprice, one on Iris, three on everybody else, three on Luffy Felix. Okay, I'll roll for Felix now and I'll roll. Two on me. 18 is the highest on that, or no, 20 is the highest on that one.

And unfortunately, flying is not good against rock type, so it doesn't do that much damage. It's not very effective. It's very meta. I hear they never found Wingy Buffet. You know that it was Ghost in a Jarr. You can buy it on eBay for two million Gil. It's at this point that you hear the mechanical word of gears and the alchemical ruins,

and you see now that there's slats open on all of the, or there are small holes that have been bored with alchemical symbols all around each of them. And suddenly here, and a blast of this thick, heavy goop sprays down on top of all of you. Love these all too familiar with this.

I need everyone. It sounds like alchemy in here. It actually does indeed. smell like alchemy in here. Yikes. You get slimed with a very heavy, very quickly hardening slime and everyone to make a dexterity saving throw. That's not good. Don't feel like I'm too well at this. Sorry, I'm saying. Dexterity. Ah, it's like we're in an episode of double dare. I know. No, I got an eight. An eight? Yeah, this is very bad. Is that I? All right. I only have plus three. 20.

Nice. 16? Fails? 21. Oh! So the DC is 18. So only YouTube passed. Yikes.

Nice. Nice. You all start to, you all get blasted by this alchemical goo. It was actually a bright green, the similar color to the alchemical fire that you had avoided from Escher's Castle. As you are now grappled and restrained and you feel this goo, this go. completely covering you, start to harden and become of a solid color where you feel like if it continues to harden, you are not able to get out, you'll basically be encased in a block and be blinded. And so it is hardening on all of you.

Do the thing, do the thing, do the thing. I cast masks, press the digitate, and I clean us up. Prestigio, my good man. Lifty, you're up. Oh, good. Okay, so I feel all the airwifts behind them, behind me of them just, like, totally missing. They're like, dang it, why can we hit this? This is bullshit. So I'll flip around and, boys, no. And I'll spin my spoon and spend a key point to make a flurry of blows.

So I'll make basically right in a circle. We'll say two attacks on seven, one-on-one, and one-on-two. AC is 17 just for your own. All right, so these will be the two on seven, which is worth. Oh, so 22 and 12, so one misses. The natural one. It's the natural one. That's a seven, isn't it? That's a one.

Oh, yeah, one, yeah. Yeah. And then we'll do, that's 23 and 24. Okay, so one hit on each of them. And as this happens, you hear the scampering, scraping footsteps of small feet of Brutus, as he's running away and you hear his apologetic voice echoing at, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, as he's scampering away.

Brutus. And then he disappears. Okay, so. Fuck, oh, God, that was terrible. 11 on number seven. I scream back. At two, Brutus! And that is...

Well done. No one did that before. beforehand. What the fuck? It just occurred to me. Yeah, yeah, we needed one month. Yeah. And that would be three Thunder and two, whatever. It'll all be the same, so you could add it all up.

To the Thunder and the and the Blugging will be the same. Okay, it will. Okay, cool. And then... I think so, yeah. 10 on number one. And nine on number two. Okay. And then I'm going to do.

to disengage from them after using my fury of blows. You punch and there's a crack of thunder in the room as a stone chips away from each of your punches and you're able to leap back on a, as they attempt to claw at you, you're able to leap back on a puff of wind as a little cloud appears beneath you as you're able to leap away with your inherent genie magic.

So five, ten. And Felix is on deck. Do I feel, though, I can still, I don't take an opportunity attack from six, though, running through here. No, you're a drunken master. You automatically disengage when you flurry up, right? I do, but if I was here and then I run past the sky, if you're disengaged,

oh, cool. So it just means that you're just moving avoiding everything as you get away. Which engage? Disengage. Do I feel, Wallace Grappled and restrained, that I still have the ability to do the semantic. Yes, you get the sense that if this maintains, you are going to eventually next round and you fail the next one, you were going the next saving throw, just getting mechanical.

Right, right. You will then be unable. So with the shield that I have cast and the claws scraping off of this invisible dome that's over me, I am drenched in this, this emerald green chemical goo.

I will shout out to the heavens. God's damn it! Taw! Quick! Go, go, go, go! And I'm going to cast haste on it. Okay. And that will basically be my turn. I don't think I want to try to... Actually, no, I don't want to take opportunity attacks here. I think I'm going to hunker down. Will your grapple the most here? Oh, that's right.

No, no, that's right. I'm not doing anything. I'm just casting haste. How do you like them grapples? That's going to be my turn. Do I, do I, do anything for the... You need to make a strength saving through a disadvantage now. What's you going to do against the goo? Against the goo. Against the goo. All right, here we go. Come on. Come on. That's not going to be good enough. I'm a go. I'm not going to be. Ew. I fail it.

And I will say I should have said this. You can use your action to try to break out of it, but if you want to hasten's dad. No, I'm a hasten. Okay. And you hear him chanting a strange wizard's language as the goose slithers around Felix's face and he's now encased in stone as you feel the haste. And although you are now blinded, grappled, restrained,

and unable to basically move, you're concentrating on it. You are basically in case in carbon, I, but aware. You just see me like, ah! And then it just becomes this green block of hardened business. I'll get you free! And then I'll realize I'm also covered in goo. But you shouldn't have advantage on some stuff. And with that, it is Iris's turn.

I'm going to cast Holyora, my eighth level spell. That's fun. Okay. And it will basically, because it's a 30-foot radius, It's gonna, well, it's gonna encompass the entire room. Oh, yeah. So the whole room fills with this warm sand. And so everybody has advantage on saving throws.

Nice. And every creature is disadvantage on attack rolls. Nice. I remember Holy or. Yeah. Like literally, it's just like these little bits aren't covered. At the very, very end. Holy aura.

And then I'm gonna roll for my safe, I guess. I rolled a natural 17th, so 21. Your advantage. Oh, you always disadventions. So it's normal. So 21, you are able to, because it's straight because it bounces out. So you are able to resist it and you break free

and you're able to burst out of this sludge and kick it to the ground and it slithers off almost like an animated ooze that it slithers to the floor. It's my least favorite find of ooze. Yeah, I know. Okay, Toa, you're up. That's not good. That's bad.

So I will, so I can still attack the guys right in front of me, right? Yep. Okay. So we're going to do this attack. Let's put you in a square. And we're going to do this attack, because these are both all ready to go. Oh, wait. If I'm recklesing, that can't be.

So I need to re-roll the attack rolls there. Oh, God. So we're going to do these two. plus is it 12? Let's see. Actions. Yeah, that's going to be a 20 and a 19 to hit. 20 and 19? Oh yeah, they're 18 17. Okay. That doesn't prock. That doesn't proc. So, and I re-roll these two guys. Barbarians be crazy, dude. I'm excited to get this. I don't know if I do as a beast barbarian. And they take half up they save. They take a good amount of damage. and I'm going to continue to the thing and look around and see is there anything else going on mechanically that I feel like it's going to emerge and spray additional like acid and chemical reaction. I'll get the reception check.

With that role, I would say you feel the vibrations beneath you and all around you as gears are turning in his castle. And you realize now that all of these stones around you are very clearly retractable and trap doors.

Oh, that there's a lot of things that can come into this room. There's basically a lot of basically all of these, they're very perfectly pristinely cut stones on this floor. And they're seeming to be rattling as that they'll be able to move. Felix and the one beneath Felix, keep your eyes all around you, Redragon. The one beneath Felix is also rattling. Cool, guys. Yeah. Oh, no.

Which means your AC is higher. Yes. With that, they are going to use the three that are around Felix are going to spread out to the three you're going to pursue a little update. And the three that are around Felix,

one's going to go, one's going to go to, Our two are going to go to Iris. I don't think this one could make it. It had to stand up first. Oh, they all just stand up first. No, no, no, no, no, no. The speed is 60.

One, two, three, four have to stand up. No, they pass. They passed. Everyone else. So their speed is 60. That was like that. Oh, they get up, and then they have to use, they can't walk towards you.

They use their wings, and they blast towards you. Okay. And so we're going to get three on IRS, they ignore. Yikes. Now that Felix is in case, they are ignoring it. Oh. And so we're not good. So four on Toa, three on Caprice, three on IRIS, and then three on tow, I believe.

Well, it's... It's three to three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Yeah, so we're just gonna do three, three, three. They probably can't harm me. And they're all disadvantaged. They're all disadvantaged. So what they're going to do is they're going to, I'm gonna start with the two claw attacks on Iris.

The lowest is at 19. Okay, and then this claw, that's gonna fail. I'm an idiot. That's gonna fail. And because of concentration, you'll have to do all the damage separately. Okay. Because I have to roll against it. Nice.

Okay, only two-claw attacks hit. No crates. That means it's a disadvantage. That sounded like the Powerpuff Girls' info. Okay, no bites. So one claw is going to slice in for damage, and that's going to be dealing. Nine plus three is 12 points of slashing. damage. And then the other claw attack, he is going to, he is going to forego damage and

attempt to grapple you tight. So an athletics contest. Just mostly per. Is he disadvantaged against a contest or ability checks? Or is you a straight? Just attacks. He got a natural one. So that'll be a five. I got a 19. What was this? Seems good. Athletics. At 20. You Hulk, he's attempting to grapple you and you Hulk out of this. Somehow as... It's like trying to hold a cat that wants to please.

24 points of piercing damage, Caprice? Ouch. And then one claw attack is going to hit. He's going to forego damage. And attempt. to grapple you as well. Oh, okay, so I have to make a... Athletics, athletics contest.

Yeah. With the game, though. Give me a 19. He got a 23. Oof. You are completely engulfed and grappled and restrained as these massive arms crunch into you. Okay.

That is, and then I need to do Toa. This disadvantage is really nasty. Three bites, fail. Thank you. Fail, okay, and then six claw attacks. Fail, one, two. I don't think of sticky rice. Oh, that, uh, 21.

And the placements of all of the major forts are, seem to form and different embattlements in the military towards the front, seemed to have a circular deliberate pattern,

and sketched very lightly over it, is Escher seemingly having put something together, he's traced in some sort of alchemical or magical circle in that, I have my own hair and my own mouth. My face will go pale and I'll just say, okay, the way I see this, we have to get back to the castle and we have to confront Escher and stop him from getting the hairpin.

That's number one. After we do that, hopefully there's something that we can do to save him. Hopefully we won't have to end him. But then, as if from the very beginning, I feel like I've done nothing but try to uncover and rip out the corruption that has been plaking Goravaki and Zentra from the very beginning. And this all seems to tie back to General Bradley Ferman. I never liked that guy, and I got an awful vibe from him when he walked.

I had a bad feeling about him since the beginning, and I assumed it had to do with his name, such a Baxi Affirminator as my greatest enemy. But now I see there's something far deeper to this. And look at this, and I will line up the drawing that goes over top.

This is clearly alchemical in nature or something. I don't know what they plan to do with Zentra, unless the whole thing will just be some sort of horrific gate

or opening for this. And I'll point to the other, the beautiful, horrific nightmare drawings. drawing sketch that is this upside-down ziggurot over his entrant. We know that General Furman was sort of in charge of the front lines. Maybe that's what he's been doing this entire time. It's establishing all of these forts. So is one of them for... And Escher, seemingly independently, has put together, he's been doing his own research and used to see like question mark and it says like it says conjuration question mark transmutation question mark like summoning transforming you know he's he's been trying to figure it out even in his service of of the P-man I don't know how much time we have the first step is stopping Asher he cannot get that hairpin how much
