The following podcast is a dear media production.
This is Let's Be Honest with Kristen Cavalry, a podcast all about getting real and open on everything
from sex, relationships, reality TV, wellness, family, and so much more.
And just a fair warning, there will probably be some oversharing.
Without further ado, please help me welcome.
Pete Crow Armstrong and Carson Kelly.
Are you guys ready for this?
What are you guys doing?
Ask Carson.
He's a catcher.
I'm tired.
I'm really tired.
You guys are tired.
Well, I appreciate you being here.
I know it's been a long weekend.
You guys are busy.
You guys play in front of roughly 42,000 people
almost every single day.
So does something like this,
a more intimate setting, make you nervous?
Or are you guys cool as a cucumber?
Probably more, actually.
You're nervous?
No.
I mean, are you nervous, Pete?
Yeah, slightly.
Slightly.
Yeah, we mess up on the baseball field all the time,
so I don't want to mess up here.
People's eyes are right on it.
You can, like, tune it out at the field, right?
Yeah, here and there.
You've got the mask on, so you can...
I get to hide.
You can hide.
I get to hide.
I feel like I'm on an island sometimes in center field,
but, no, I mean, this is great,
slightly nerve-wracking, but it's nice to see everybody.
Well, my audience is primarily female
And while I know that they love baseball
They
They love to win
Fucking right
Gotta love a live audience
They love baseball
But they love talking about dating
And they love athletes
But they love knowing how to get the athlete
Okay, so we're going to talk about that tonight
Oh boy
That sound good
Great
Sounds good
Okay, great.
We'll just go with it.
Sounds good.
All right, let's go.
All right, what's the biggest misconception women have about professional athletes?
I don't know if I could speak for all the other sports, but we play 162 games a year.
So, well, yeah, we're on the road all the time.
So if we're talking like social life and partying and anything like that, we spend more time drinking, going to bars.
going to bars, hanging out with any...
We spend all of our...
We spend all of our time really doing that with each other.
Like, we have a lot of fun on the plane.
On the plane?
Yeah, on the plane.
Yeah.
That's where the party starts.
You guys are just getting lit coming home from...
Well, that is our party.
Well, part of the time we're dehydrated already.
So, like, one beer, you're like, oh gosh.
I mean, if we get stuck on the...
Like a one for one with a water.
Yeah, I mean, if we get stuck on the...
stuck on the tarmac.
You never know what can happen.
But like that, I don't know,
we don't, I think
we're so tired all the time that we don't
actually live like a life that you
heard about like the
the Yankees living in the 90s
and all that stuff. Like I think times have changed
and we like drinking
beers with the guys and playing
cards and
that's really it. Like,
you get to the hotel room and you're done.
Beat. Yeah.
I mean, it's a full-time job.
I mean, the off-season, you're training.
And then the season is 162 games and 172 days.
So it's a lot.
Yeah.
The diet is also not as crazy.
I cheat all the time.
The what?
McDonald's, bro.
I eat a lot of McDonald's.
You eat a lot of McDonald's?
I love McDonald's.
I love when they have chick flak
on the plane.
Double quarter pounder with cheese.
So gone are the days where you baseball boys have a girlfriend in every city, huh?
That's old news.
Far gone.
I don't know if I was ever built for that life.
I never, I've never, yeah, I never got into that whole, whole spiel.
That's good.
That's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, what's something women think men care about, but they actually don't?
Why are you laughing at everything?
You want to go first on this one?
I got to think about that one for a second.
What women think men care about, but they actually don't?
Yeah.
stumped them
question two
shoot guys come on
you guys really stumped us
we need to get these boys a shot or something
what do they really care
what did you say
yeah go for it I like that
we'll riff off of you guys
I would say like weight also maybe
like if we gain a couple pounds we're like so
insecure about it and I've heard guys are like
we don't care at all about that
I think that's true that's 100% true
I just, whoever I'm with, I'd like them to be happy.
I mean, whatever, like, seriously.
And I know that's not always something that is, like, easy to deal with for people,
but I think that's something that goes, like we don't,
it's not like we got our binoculars on and notice it right when somebody gains a pound.
Right, right.
As silly as that sounds, beer bellies, man.
Yeah. We also don't notice that.
I'll be there one day.
Gosh, I mean.
So anything with appearance maybe?
Yeah.
Like we think it's a big deal and it's kind of...
It's not a big deal.
Okay.
Yeah.
That's nice.
And I think what I love is like...
I love when a girl goes and she does herself up to go out and all that stuff.
I think that should always happen because I think that's something that makes them happy as well from time to time.
But it's like people taking care of themselves.
Yeah.
If you like being around the person, like I don't really think what they're going out and really matters that much.
Okay, great. You heard it here first, ladies.
Okay, what makes a woman stand out from the rest? Like Carson, with your wife, you know, you're married.
What made her the one? What was it about her?
Probably just the personality and just the way, you know, the conversations that we had.
One thing that me and her really like to do is like we like to go out to coffee. That's like our thing.
So like if we get childcare, it's like kids, go away.
Like that's your date is a coffee date, not dinner?
It'll be like a 10 a.m. coffee date.
And it'll be like an hour.
We'll just talk about life.
We'll talk about the kids.
You know, where do we see ourselves in five years?
What does it look like?
And just, you know, I really cherish those moments.
That's really sweet.
I've offered to babysit, but his oldest, his oldest, I was just joking about it with my friends.
I was like, I don't actually think I've ever seen George's face.
Like, he always hides behind his wife.
No, no, no, no, no, gummy bears.
I know.
Well, I've tried the gummy bear prize.
He doesn't be a breast friend forever.
Yeah, well, maybe.
When he comes back, we'll do it.
James will give you a high-five.
Yeah, his youngest is very outgoing,
but George, the older one is,
he's a shy guy and it's very sweet,
but I want to break through.
We were just talking about that,
the birth order.
It's very real.
The first is very reserved,
and the second is an animal.
Yes, that is correct.
An animal.
Truth.
Okay, what are dating red flags?
Things that are immediately a no.
Person, you go back to pre-being married, you know?
I think just constant, like, too much communication almost is like over the top.
You're like, hold on, like time out.
I like a good conversation.
But if you, if you.
No, no, no, no, like a text.
Oh, sure.
It's me.
Be needy.
Yeah, exactly.
You're like, back, back off.
Okay, that's a good one.
Just a little bit.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I, I think.
I think if I just, if I can't go on like a natural conversation with somebody, then I don't know
where else there really is to go.
Yeah, fair.
Love those.
All right, what's more important chemistry or compatibility?
What's the difference?
I forget you're young, you're young.
I don't think at 24 I knew what the fuck either one was either.
Okay, so compatibility is like, can we build a life together?
Do we like the same things?
Do we go the same coffee shop?
Stuff like that, right?
The day-to-day.
Chemistry is like, I want to rip your clothes off.
See, I'm the compatibility.
I think, I mean, yeah, chemistry's been important for me before,
but I think, like, that falls under the compatibility umbrella.
I think, like, if I really want to spend real time with you,
it's got to be a little bit of both.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Makes sense.
That's fair, right?
That's a good answer.
Yeah, I like that.
It's kind of hard to find, though. As you get older, it's harder, guys, okay?
It's easy right now.
Carson, what about you? What do you think?
I mean, the compatibility. I think both, for sure.
I think Pete hit it right on the head.
Just having both and, you know, having two young kids, we're going to go to coffee dates and enjoy that.
And, you know, I find a lot of pleasure in that.
Love it. I love it. Okay, great.
Do you guys believe the saying, if he wanted to, he would?
Have you heard that on, like, social media and stuff?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know how to explain.
I mean, you're probably the best one to answer that
just because you're with somebody literally every single day.
And I think there's probably more moments for you
where you have to like pull something out of the hat when,
and we're on the road all the time.
Carson, how long have you been married for?
Going on six years.
Oh, amazing.
To leave.
Yeah.
Two kids, six years.
Yeah.
I've been with her for 14 years.
Oh, wow.
Oh, my gosh.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
So, I mean, she's awesome.
She came up with me through the minor leagues.
And, you know, we grew together.
We knew each other.
She was in college.
I was in high school.
I signed at high school.
She's older.
She's older.
She's one year older.
One year older.
One year.
Oh, yeah.
But, like, we kind of grew up together, right?
She went to college.
I was in the minor leagues.
She went to Grinnell College in Iowa.
I was playing in Cedar Rapids.
So, like, it was close.
She could come to games.
And we just kind of grew up.
up together and we're both from the same hometown and yeah I mean it's it's been awesome
so but with dating like because I think the big conversation online is if he wanted to he would
like if he wanted to ask you out on a date he would it's not actually complicated like you'll know if he
likes you or not fair yeah yeah yeah yeah I mean I don't like dude I mean my generation is definitely
different with like accessibility and and how easy it can be
be to reach out to somebody and not follow through, which is why, I mean, I've steered clear of,
like, the DM world where I haven't, like, I haven't, like, looked for anybody really
over Instagram, and then, sure enough, like, I'm seeing Madeline, my girlfriend, and we
DM, the DM, that was so, like, you know.
You're down in the DM, too.
No, she was like, you want to go grab a beer?
And I was like, absolutely.
So we just, we drank Guinness for like four hours and it's been like the last four months.
So, yeah, it was right before we went to Tampa off day.
We had a flight later that night and he got a little drunk at the bar and we've literally
talked and hung out almost every day since.
Wow.
I mean, it's a, you know, that it works, but I just think my generation, my age group is a little
more comfortable with hiding behind their screens maybe.
So I don't know how much that applies to my age, but.
I still like that thought of if I want to, I absolutely will with the right person, you know.
For sure.
Yeah.
Wait, so she slid into your DMs.
I, well, I went looking and looking and looking and it was just a little hay.
It was as simple as that.
And then it was actually on my birthday.
Started with hay?
I told you.
I'm not like the biggest.
It's very simple, everybody.
It's really simple.
It can be.
It can be.
Keep it simple.
Yeah. And then I was like, you want to get coffee?
Coffee.
See, coffee's the new way to go.
Coffee is the Cubs move, huh?
Coffee's, hey, there's a lot of coffee
that's being drank in the Cubs Clubhouse.
We got motherfuckers making like pourovers and shit.
We have a pourover travels with everybody.
You hear the grinds from new cities.
It's amazing.
But yeah, then she suggested a beer and I was like that.
That's my girl.
That's it.
That's it.
That's it.
Yeah.
Okay, so you kind of, oh, well, okay, so she, I guess,
didn't make the first move.
But what do you think about the girl,
making the first move.
I'm not opposed to that at all.
It works.
Love it. Okay, great.
Yeah, whatever works.
All right, let's talk about Just Ingredients,
and specifically, I want to talk to you guys
about their Electrolites, which I have been loving.
But first, let's talk about the brand itself.
Just Ingredients believes in nourishing your body
with real food ingredients.
This is a brand committed to ingredient transparency
and products made with ingredients they would use themselves.
You guys know, I love that.
These electrolytes are flavored with real fruit for a great tasting, nourishing electrolyte drink.
They're made with organic coconut water and no added sugar, no artificial flavor, sweeteners or colors,
and no sugar alcohols. Yes, yes, yes. Electrolites with no overly salty taste and are designed
for everyday hydration for the whole family. They're also formulated without synthetic emulsifiers,
gums, anti-caking agents, or fillers. Again, yes, these are the things I love about these wellness brands.
the flavors are also just delicious. I've been doing their watermelon lime every day and I just love
it so much. So visit just ingredients.com slash honest and use code honest at checkout for 20% off your
first full price purchase. That's J-U-S-T-I-N-G-R-E-D-I-E-N-T-S. Use code honest for 20% off your first
order. This applies to full-priced orders. A brand we all know in love is Lulu Lemon.
and I'm curious, are you someone who's particular about what you move in? You know that feeling
when something just gets out of your way and lets you do your thing? This is what I want to talk about
today. Lulu Lemon has a short that people keep coming back to and once you try it, you will definitely
understand why. It's called their Shake It Out Short and it is so comfortable to not only work out in,
but let it take you on your day no matter where it takes you. I've been living in mine. It's so hot in
Tennessee that wearing shorts is crucial right now. The Shake It Out short has a stay put waistband,
a flowy layered hem, and a race ready length. So whatever you're doing, it moves with you. It has
their swift fabric. So it's lightweight, has that four-way stretch, sweat wicking, quick drying.
It disappears the second you put it on. You stop thinking about what you're wearing and you just
move. So if you don't know these Shake It Out shorts yet, guys, I promise you, you will love them.
go to lululemon.com right now.
New styles drop all the time
and the colors do go fast,
so you're not going to want to wait.
And if something doesn't work for you,
free returns, always.
That's lululemon.com,
lululemon.com.
Okay, let's talk about ladder.
Maybe you don't know what to do at the gym
or you're just tired of doing
random workouts from YouTube or Instagram
and not getting any results.
Well, ladder gives you a real plan
from an expert coach.
Ladder is awesome because it's an expert strength training plan,
not just a content library.
And you get a new plan every week that builds on the last.
So the workouts connect each week progresses from the one before through structured training
blocks.
It really does feel like having a coach right there with you.
I love this, especially when I'm traveling and I'm on the road.
If I'm in a hotel room or a hotel gym, this has been my go-to.
Your progress is tracked automatically.
So the app remembers your weights, your reps, and your sets.
So you can see yourself getting stronger over time.
and it costs less than a dollar a day.
That's elite level personal training for a fraction of what you pay in person.
And Ladder now includes nutritional tracking at no extra cost, which I love.
So remove the guest work with Ladder and get a real coach in your ear telling you exactly what to do for every workout.
No thinking, everything planned for you.
If you have an iPhone, head to ladder.fit slash honest and take a quick quiz to find your perfect ladder plan.
Use my link and get a free seven-day trial with no credit card and $10 off your first month if you join.
Okay, can men and women really just be friends?
Oh, the audience has spoken.
You're asking two baseball players who are like in Boyt, Wisconsin, and you're not like, or I mean, I guess like when I'm playing in Kodak, Tennessee, I wasn't looking to go make friends with anybody, really.
So I think, like, as I've gotten a little bit older, I haven't, like, my friends that are girls have, it's dwindled, like, very heavily.
But, no, I mean, I think that, I think so.
I'm a believer in you can.
I'm a believer in that you can.
Carson, what do you got?
Who is really adamant there?
I think so too.
That's all I can hear right now is no.
Everybody's saying no.
It's like one person back, like something happened.
Like that's a personal story.
Something happened.
Should we call her up?
Tell your story.
Tell your story.
I think absolutely yes.
Yeah.
Okay, yeah.
No, I think so too.
I actually do.
What is the worst way that you've ever broken up with someone or someone has broken up with you?
I guess, Carson, do you have a lot of dating history?
because you met your wife so young.
So maybe you haven't had one of those.
Yeah, not really.
That's great.
Dodge that bullet.
Yeah, right.
Don't screw it up, right?
Pete.
I mean, if we're talking about my generation and accessibility
and what you're capable of with phones, yes, it was text, but it was in high school.
This is you breaking up with a girl?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We appreciate the vulnerability.
Yeah, it was in high school.
I was like a sophomore or junior maybe, and I,
My girlfriend at the time was in college, like a freshman in college.
Oh, wow.
And, well,
these athletes, man.
Maybe I was a senior.
I wasn't that young.
No, no, no.
It's a junior, junior.
You weren't even trying to younger.
I was a junior.
I was a junior.
And she was a freshman in college.
But no, I just, I didn't know how to do it.
And it was, like, around, like, homecoming dance time.
And I wanted to go with a different girl.
And so I, uh,
But me and the girl that I broke up with are actually still friends
as this day.
I just saw her a few months ago.
She's got an awesome new guy.
Friends.
You can even be friends with exes apparently.
I saw her in Houston during the WBC.
She's got an awesome boyfriend.
I see that as like, and I,
kudos to her because she's forgiven me
and whatever that was that I did.
I wasn't proud of it.
But that's such a different time.
Well, you're in high school.
It was high school.
I don't think that counts, really.
It's like you turn 18 and everything gets wiped clean, you know, your record.
Yeah, I don't know.
It wasn't my best, but I've been forgiven, thankfully.
And, no, she's great.
So that was my worst one.
You've recovered.
We appreciate that.
Yeah.
What is the most ridiculous DM that you've ever received?
Are you truly not reading them?
Sometimes they're just entertaining.
Sometimes you've got to read them.
Sometimes I go looking for them, but...
Do you guys get, like, naked photos and stuff?
Never, ever.
Never.
Never.
Never.
Don't really need that.
I have got to take a photos.
Yeah.
I wish I got more honestly.
I'm kidding.
Great.
Now we're going to,
now they're going to blow it up.
All right.
I feel like mostly it's just people being like,
you lost me $5,000.
Like, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You're like,
you're like,
what?
Sorry.
If you knew how I was feeling today,
I had told you not to bet that money,
put it to stuff.
It usually is that.
I think like what's been the worst player in the most,
egregious is just like the amount of money I've lost somebody.
Yeah.
I've lost somebody.
Like I actually did.
Like you did that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, that would not be fun to read those.
Yeah.
How do you know if a girl is into you or just the clout?
How old I am.
Clout's like status.
Tell me what cloud is.
How old I am.
You don't know what cloud is?
The fuck is cloud.
I'm older.
Oh my gosh.
Like if they just like you because you're an athlete.
Like the all the status.
The glamour that comes with it in the status.
Carson likes to play this.
I'm an old card.
How old are you?
He's like 31.
32.
And you said you're old?
Get out.
I say it because it's the baseball world.
When you start with a three, you become old.
All right.
Everybody's like, you're old as shit.
You're prime in the real world.
It's based on how bad your body hurts is what I'm learning.
Everything hurts, man.
It hurts.
No, is it, like, if you wanted to, he will,
is it fair to say, like, when you know, you know?
I think, like, I enjoy trust in my gut, really.
And I think there's also an element of like,
Like, you have to, you have to, like, be willing to put yourself out there and be vulnerable
and be willing to, like, kind of get slapped in the face almost.
If you're wrong, you're wrong, and you, hopefully you move on somehow and you learn from it.
I mean, it doesn't seem like people are taking risks as much anymore.
Yeah.
Like, everybody's just kind of, they're in their lane and then they don't step out, like, to go meet somebody or.
Yeah, people are scared.
Oh, no.
What was that?
What is that?
How do they know?
Oh, gosh.
Oh, sweet.
No, but, Chris, you're right.
They're going to be in your DMs.
My DMs are open to you.
No, but, Carson, you're right.
I think people are scared now.
Yeah, I mean, like going to the bar
and talking to somebody,
everybody's like, oh, my gosh,
how do I do this?
What do I do?
And it's like just being vulnerable.
stepping out of your comfort zone.
And, you know, if you're wrong, you're wrong.
It happens.
It happens.
Like, that's, I mean, that was a lesson I kind of learned, I mean, on the baseball field
a little bit.
And just being vulnerable, like, you want everything to look good.
You want everything to look perfect.
And if you fail, you're like, all right, fail.
It happens.
And then learning that and getting over that has allowed me to just kind of be in my own
skin and be who I am.
And it's opened my view to so many new people.
and I've just learned a lot.
I love that.
That's so great.
Yeah, and I do think trust in your gut is your biggest compass.
It's the best.
Okay, would you guys consider yourselves romantic?
Yeah, I mean, thoughtful.
What would your wife say?
She would say no.
Yeah.
She'd probably say, I got that.
No, she would tell me, like, I'm thoughtful, and I think about, you know, birthdays
and, like, if she's with the kids and going,
I mean, maybe the kids are going crazy and like thinking about that and how I can make her day a little bit better and take a load off her plate.
That's kind of how I think about.
That is a good dad, a good husband.
And sometimes I completely swinging this.
But I feel like I would rather like put the effort into it than not do it and kind of just hide, right?
It's like you do something the wrong way.
Putting stuff in the drawers the wrong way.
I'm like looking at her.
Like, go here.
No.
No.
It's just like, oh, God.
It's the little things.
It's the little things, I think, that add up over time
can make a big difference.
Love it.
I'm not like a huge gestures guy,
but like if, yeah, if I want to, I will.
There you go.
There you go.
What's the most romantic thing you guys have ever done?
Proposed?
I mean, come up.
That does not count.
What do you mean?
No, that does not.
It's part of it.
No.
No.
I mean, yes, that's good.
All right, what did you do?
What did you do for your proposal?
What did I do?
It was so romantic, you forgot.
It was over the All-Star break, because we only get three days, right?
Over the All-Star break, and, I mean, it was good.
I mean, I was flying from Arizona back home, and, like, the whole plane ride of just thinking about it.
Like, what do I say?
What do I do?
Like, sweating.
Probably had to change a shirt or two.
But, like, I mean, I just.
spoke my heart. I really did.
I gave her a paperweight, actually.
It was a heart paperweight.
What I said was, I've given you my heart.
Can you give me yours forever?
I thought about that, see? I do know what I'm talking about.
That's good. That was my...
That's good. Did she have any idea
it was coming or was she completely surprised?
She knew. She knew.
She knows.
How often does that happen when people propose to be?
I mean, I knew.
Well, we start acting weird, right?
It was like, oh, shit.
You can tell you start acting weird.
Yeah, it's weird.
Yeah.
Pete, what's the most romantic thing you've done?
No, again, she took the initiative on that one.
I wanted coffee.
Yeah, she asked him.
I want a coffee and she's like, no, my brain can use a beer.
I was like, sure, fucking awesome.
I'm in love with her.
Bro, the most romantic thing I've done, there's not much to go off of here.
You've got time.
You're young.
You've got time.
Well, yeah, I also, like, matters about who you're with.
Honestly, at 24, I don't think.
I think like anything romantic had happened in my life.
No, it's like it's how bad you want to do something romantic.
I'm sure I'll have a better answer for you soon here.
Get back to us.
I will.
Sorry to disappoint.
What'd you say?
I said, sorry to disappoint.
I just, I'm slacking.
No, it's all good.
Who on the team is the best boyfriend or husband?
The audience, I love you guys, every question.
Oh.
I mean, yeah, Dansby.
Danzby wouldn't even hang out with us because.
The ladies love Dansby.
The ladies love Danzby.
I don't blame you.
No, he really pissed me off one night a couple years ago because...
Who did?
It was before you got here, actually.
We were in Cincinnati, and it was during the Summer Olympics.
And a few of us were, like, hanging out in someone's room watching, I think at the time of day,
it was like the BMX stuff going on it.
So we were watching BMX on the TV.
We were like, yo, Dan's like, you got to come.
Where are you?
He's like, sorry, I got to get ready for...
for Mal's game.
She was playing in the World Cup.
Her game wasn't until like 11 a.m. the next day.
And he was like, nah, like, I got to make sure she's good.
I'm like, dude, she's sleeping.
We're not on the same time zone.
We're not anything like that.
And he is so about what she does.
And he's, he's her biggest fan for sure.
And I don't want to speak too much on their stuff.
But he loves what Mal does and what she's about.
It's cool.
That's so sweet.
That's very sweet.
Who's the worst boyfriend?
Our husband.
Like Daniel Poetia.
You don't actually have to answer that.
Porter Hodge.
You could name me.
Oh gosh.
Don't feel like you actually have to answer that.
Yeah, you're trying to get me in trouble.
That's a setup question.
Yeah, you don't have to answer that.
I'll give you a set up question.
I named two single guys, so it doesn't count.
I couldn't do that to any of the boys.
Yeah, okay.
I figure it.
I don't even want you to.
Who spends that?
the most money.
Who spends that?
Who spends the money?
Me?
Do you spend money?
Unlike clothes and stuff.
Oh, yeah.
Closing food.
Yeah.
I like a nice dinner.
You know, we don't, I don't think we have a ton of guys.
Jamo likes his clothes.
Jammel.
Bottle of wine.
Yeah, Jammel.
Jemal.
Like, how expensive of a bottle are we talking?
I have no fun.
I mean, we had like a $400 bottle yesterday.
It's a nice bottle of wine.
It's a nice bottle of wine.
Love that.
No one's flashy, though.
No one's really flashy.
Yeah. No.
Okay.
We got a pretty vanilla team.
We do.
You guys got to step it up.
What is going on?
What's the dumbest thing you've ever spent money on?
For the most ridiculous thing.
Like, once you started making money, you're like, I've got to have this.
I've got to do that.
There's probably a few things.
Man.
Just like backpack?
Like I bought a backpack.
I'm like, cut the back.
Backback?
What am I doing?
Yeah.
I mean, I didn't buy any stupid.
No, is it the same one that you use today?
No, no, I like that one.
I like that one.
The other one sucks.
Yeah.
Well, then, yeah, if it just sucks, then that's the dumbest thing.
Well, I don't make dumb decisions with money, so.
I bought a chain for a lot of money and I gave it, it kept falling off during the games.
And I gave it to a teammate.
and he put it in his pocket
and then he put his pants in the wash.
Oh.
And it was like a, not like a bead.
It was like a, I don't know what you'd call it,
but it came back in like 17 different pieces.
So I'd say like that was the biggest waste of money I'd ever.
Was that last year?
Was that last year?
No, this was Justin Steele two years ago.
It's not like your new necklace, Pete.
You could throw that thing in the washer.
Nothing's happening.
Actually, don't try that though.
I would never.
I would never.
Look at that necklace.
Yeah.
I set Justin steal up for,
failure giving him that.
You did.
Yeah.
What is this?
I came back in my pants.
I found it in pieces.
Really?
Yeah, it was a lot of money.
I'm sure.
I was showing my mom.
I was like, Mom, look what I just bought?
She's like, what are you doing, dude?
How much was it?
Do you want to say?
It's fair if you don't.
It was a lot.
Yeah.
It was a lot.
Okay, fair.
This was like three years ago.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was a lot of money.
More than I did, yeah.
It'll never live.
it down. What's something fun that you guys use your athlete fame for? Like dinner reservation.
I mean, we use the dinner a lot. Yeah. I like to play golf. So like golf courses. You get like
the good tea times and all that. Yeah, like going, go on to places on off days for sure.
Yeah. You get the golf cart instead of having a walk. Like, there you go. That's nice.
Or you get caddies. Yeah, or you get cat. Yeah. You get caddies.
We golf a lot together. I'm like a, during the season, I don't have a handy.
When I'm playing in the office, he's a great time to play golf with.
I am.
I have fun.
Shit, anywhere.
Anywhere.
Anywhere.
Anywhere.
Yeah.
Concerts.
Yeah.
Food.
I've built some cool relationships with like designers and clothing brands and stuff like
like that.
So I guess that would be my favorite just getting free, free stuff from them.
Yeah.
Concerts is a good one too.
That's a good one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean.
and Blink 182 on stage with them.
That was...
That was sick.
That was probably my best.
That's like what I grew up with.
I'm surprised that you liked them and know that.
I went to high school with Mark Hoppice's son.
Oh, really?
So I kind of...
Oh.
Yeah, no, he is...
He's awesome.
And so is Jack.
But they were in Arizona for their only show of this year,
so I got to go hang out with them,
and that was pretty sick.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's very cool.
Do you guys read what people say about you online,
Do you try to completely avoid it?
Man, I try to completely avoid it.
Yeah.
I mean, it's a death spiral.
Yeah.
Really just.
I mean, you're already mad that you sucked that day.
So, like, I don't need to go read about it again.
Like, I know I was there.
I was there.
Thank you.
Thanks for the reminder.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Just shoving it down your throat.
Yeah, nice.
I'll come back tomorrow.
Yeah.
I used to go, like, like I said, I used to go looking for it.
But then there's some days where I need to feel that again.
Otherwise, no, I avoid it.
Like, everybody's so cool in person, too.
Yeah.
It's nice to.
Yeah.
I know it.
Yeah.
There's a lot of, there's a lot more of you guys that are happy to say it to our faces that you appreciate us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Likewise.
Likewise, likewise.
Likewise, I love you guys too.
I love you guys too.
Fair.
Yeah, what the hell, guys?
If the Cubs, we're going to do the show, the back.
and everybody was single, who would be cast as the lead?
Oh, if everyone was single?
Everybody's single and we're running the bachelor.
Who do you guys want?
Danzby, Danz.
I was going to say Danesby.
I mean, Dansby like fits the mold, I feel like.
Yeah, he does.
Oh, Shona.
That's the best answer you would possibly give it.
That would be great.
Shoda would be fantastic on the basketball.
Oh my gosh.
Shoda.
Shota would be so good.
Shota's,
yeah.
He might be the funniest guy on the team.
Or one of them.
Jamo.
Jaymo.
Again, Porter Hodge would be entertaining
for other, like, for reasons.
Like, he'd get a lot of hate, I think, on a show like that.
Which, yeah.
He might like that, though.
He would love that.
He would love that.
That's a great question, though.
I mean,
Dan's B's like your.
your obvious answer.
Shoda is definitely my answer.
And then Porter Hodge would be like
the bad guy on the show.
You guys could have multiple seasons, you know?
Three seasons already. There we go. Perfect.
We got it. Great. I love this.
Yeah. Okay, if you guys weren't baseball players,
what would you be doing for career?
I wish I was playing in the World Cup right now.
Oh, really?
That'd be cool. I loved, I played soccer growing up, so
that would, that's like, I wake up some days.
I wish I was right-handed and played shortstop,
and then I wish I was a Premier League forward.
I'd probably get into clothes otherwise.
Okay, yeah, yeah.
All right.
Yeah, I'd play golf for sure.
No doubt, no doubt.
Okay, so professional athlete was in the parts where both of you, no matter what.
It's about it.
Okay, fair, fair, fair.
Let's talk about useful.

Let's talk about figs.
You probably have friends or family who work in health care, or maybe you work in health care yourself.
Definitely you know someone in health care.
And I noticed something recently.
The people who I know who are nurses and doctors and estheticians,
lately they've all had on these really cute uniforms.
They're scrubs, but they fit really well, and they come in all of these really beautiful colors.
Turns out they're figs.
And figs are definitely a thing when you work in a clinical or hospital setting.
They're super lightweight and breathable with four-way stretch and smart functional details
like moisture wicking fabric and pockets where you actually need them.
And like I mentioned, the fit is a huge upgrade from the boxy scrubs we're used to seeing
healthcare professionals where figs reimagined them completely with genuinely beautiful
tailoring and tons of styles and colors to choose from, they now are finally really flattering.
You can look good working as a health care professional. So if you work in health care or you know
someone who does, I'm telling you you have got to check them out. You can get 15% off your first
order at wherefigs.com with the code figs rx. That's wherefigs.com and use code figs rx.
All right, let's talk about cook unity. Cook unity is the first show.
chef-led meal delivery service that makes your meals in small batches inside local microkitchens
across the U.S., so not in factories. Every dish arrives with the kind of freshness you'd get at the
restaurant itself. Meals from Michelin-starred chefs, James Beard Winners, and Food Network stars.
Go to cookunity.com slash honest or use code honest before checkout for 50% off your first week.
I love Cook Unity when I'm traveling a ton because for me, the grocery store is 25 minutes away,
So it's not that simple for me just to bop over.
So I like when I get back from a trip, having some of these meals that are already delivered to my door.
And they are so good.
I just tried the barbecue chicken.
It comes with gooey mac and cheese, which my kids absolutely devoured.
I mean, they have so many good pasta dishes.
Fetuccini boulanets.
Again, my kids love all of these pastas.
I mean, I do too.
But I also like to get protein in there.
They have creamy merry meat chicken.
I don't know if you guys have heard about this, but so good.
There's just so many great options.
Like I said, there's so many dishes to choose from.
They have over 10 different dietary preferences.
So whether you're really into high protein right now or low sodium, you're into GLP1,
pescatarian, gluten-free, I mean, you name it, they have it.
Taste what happens when real award-winning chefs make fresh, small-batched meals just for you.

Okay, well, being a baseball player is obviously one of the coolest jobs, but it doesn't come without a lot of sacrifice.
What would you say is the hardest part?
Without being a professional athlete.
You go first.
Probably being away from family and just to travel.
I mean, we travel so much.
I mean, spring training starts in February.
And then the season goes through end of September.
playoffs
November
I said the regular season
ends in September
then playoffs are October
to November
okay
gosh
okay
when's the parade
November
but yeah I would say probably
just the length of the season
to travel and being away from family
Yeah, absolutely.
Same. I mean, well, I'm an only child, so my parents, they do a good job of getting out to see me,
but I think it's the same thing. Like, my friends mean a lot to me, and they're all on their own grind and working and all that.
So I'd say that, like trying to fit in enough time with them when we have a break.
And, yeah, I mean, sleep.
Sleep is hard.
It's a weird sleep schedule.
That's not that important.
but yeah, family, friends.
Just making time for
everybody, right?
Sacrifice a lot of time for sure. Yeah.
All right, Pete, we've got to talk about your necklace.
So you are our very first
collab at Uncommon James ever.
Yeah.
We are honored to have you.
Me too.
What made you want to do the collab with us?
I mean, I enjoyed meeting you
and the boys so much last year
and when Marissa brought it to me,
I was stoked. I thought it was a
great idea. Like, I'm not the
biggest jewelry guy, but I think you were very open to hearing or at least like tailoring to like
what would fit me. And I thought that was pretty cool. So like I said, like I'm not like the
flashiest when it comes to stuff. I wear funky shit. But like I feel like just that you sent me
how many different options. Yeah, a lot. And I love, no, I love like five or six and and of like
the 10 that I got sent. And I thought that I could just see myself wearing any one of them. And so I
think just the fact that you were able to create something that I could really see myself
wearing and enjoying was the first thing and and or the second thing I guess after appreciating
getting to meet the boys and all that last year so yeah it is it's my boys how this all came to
be I mean they're seriously it's cool they're awesome yeah yeah no it's very sweet yeah how
does it feel to have your very own necklace feels good I really never I mean I didn't think that it
really ever happened. I never thought of it. So very nice way to start my 2026 was getting this brought to me.
And I mean, you guys were, you guys came up with all this stuff really, really quickly too.
We were grinding.
Yeah. To get ready for that All-Star game. We were like, fingers crossed.
Yeah. There wasn't much anticipation. I didn't have to wait very long to see what you had come up with.
And I thought that was really cool. So, yeah, I got to wear it in Philly this year. It was fun.
Yeah, it was great. Yeah, we loved it. We were so excited.
You are into fashion, though. Is that fair to say?
Yeah, most definitely. I mean, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in L.A.
And I was friends with a lot of skaters. So I didn't really skate much myself.
But like when Thrasher was really big, I don't know if you guys know what Thrasher is, Thrasher Mag.
So I grew up wearing like a lot of like Dickie's Chino's.
And such a California thing.
Yeah, super. I feel like I would say that we were like the first ones to cuff our pants and all that stuff.
But no, I just grew up with a bunch of skaters and I loved what they were all about, too.
It's kind of like this.
They didn't really care about much except skating.
And, I mean, if you're going to enjoy anything and take pride in anything, like, they went all in on who they were and, like, how skating just kind of shaped their personality.
And so Dickies, vans, Air Force One's, like, just, like, weirdly ratty, kind of dirty.
style but made it look good and I'm still wearing baggy stuff today and yeah so fun
are you into fashion would you say or no you don't really care not so much he looks good on the
golf course that's all that matters he I could screw up a pro shop I could tell you that no he
wears a vest better than I've ever seen anybody I will rock a vest he rocks a vest do you put
Because they photograph you guys game days, right?
Is it what, every Friday or something?
So are you putting effort into that outfit?
Do you think about it?
Not really.
You don't really care.
I love it.
Half the time, I don't know what day of the week is.
That's the time you're like, shit, it's Friday.
They're going to get me on camera.
I love that.
You put effort into it, don't you?
You put it every day, though.
I don't have to put much effort into it.
I put effort into what I buy and then, like,
developing like a good repertoire.
But no, I comfort.
It's a big factor into what I put on every day.
And I just, again, I did a good job of picking the right stuff.
You buy the right items.
Yeah.
So like for the MLB red carpet, are you working with a stylist for that?
You are.
I did.
Yeah, his name is Dan Solomon.
He's sick.
He does mostly NBA guys.
Yep.
And he was one of like the first dudes, I'm sure you know, but to do like the showrooms where he goes
and like now he's getting a suite in Vegas for NBA Summer League.
and he just, it's hard for him to probably find size 10 and a halfs when he's getting all
like 14s and all that stuff.
But he knows one of my agents really well.
And then he went to college with Madeline.
So they saw each other in New York and that's how we got.
We were in New York like three weeks before the break.
So that's how I got connected with him.
And he sent me like that great Botega jacket.
He sent me all the stuff in like a night.
So it was, yeah, it was really cool.
Yeah, that jacket was very cool.
Thanks. I loved it.
Yeah, that was great.
Yeah.
All right, let's do a little rapid fire.
All right.
Last person.
What?
Do you know what that is person?
Come on.
Okay, last person you stalked on Instagram.
That's be honest.
Shoot, it was probably like either Lameenia Mall or Erling Holland, one of the two of them.
Just because the World Cup's going on.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Probably them.
Okay.
I got man crush.
Sean Erling Holland for sure.
We love it.
He's a Viking.
He's sick.
He's sick.
You can pass person.
Yeah, I don't mean.
All right, fine, fine.
What's the last text that you sent?
I'm at the front door.
To Jim?
Yeah.
Jim, I'm here.
I was in the group chat.
Caleb's, one of our pitchers.
Oh, gosh.
He's old for baseball.
39.
Okay, you calm down because I'm
for baseball.
For baseball.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you better clarify that.
But the lady, there was a lady on the scoreboard today
who had a sign that I'm 98 single and ready to mingle with like whoever.
And I guess one of the twins broadcasters is like,
this is who's who's field bar should go after.
So we were in the group chat.
We were in the group chat going off about that.
That was good.
That's a good one.
That's good.
Yeah.
You guys will see some of the signs that are out there sometimes.
Like, oh, yeah.
Social media.
All the time.
Yeah.
Okay.
We're always looking for something.
We're always looking for something to throw into the group message.
Yeah.
Ammunition.
Yeah, we've got a good message going.
All right.
Love that.
Dude, I can hear what people are talking about in the outfield.
Like, I can hear over my shoulder.
Really?
Yes.
Good to know.
That doesn't mean I'll really acknowledge all that much.
I'm focused.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I like eavesdropping.
I like eavesdropping.
Interesting.
Okay, love it.
What's your most toxic trait?
I play golf.
I'm gone for five hours.
Exactly, exactly.
After you've been playing baseball for the last.
Yeah, hey, I'm gonna go play golf.
Yeah.
I just, I really value my alone time,
so I go silent sometimes.
Not quite, I have, you know, not quite ghosting.
I wouldn't, I feel like that's.
You ghost me.
You just need a minute.
I ghost, I just go dark in the office.
So everybody, yeah, it's not just one person,
it's everybody.
Mom and dad included.
Wow.
Yeah.
Love them and I'm getting better at it, but yeah, I go dark.
You're taking a minute for yourself.
Hell yeah.
As you should.
Quieting my mind.
What's one thing your teammates make fun of you for?
Hair, pants.
I need outfit today.
You like that?
They're comfy shorts.
I love the shorts.
Hair, pants, shorts, obviously.
Today.
Shows.
Existing, basically.
Yeah.
It's got a little easier now that I've been with these guys for like three years,
but they still find, they still find anything really.
What music I listen to,
how fast it takes me to do my crossword puzzle.
Oh my God.
When I had my ear and my earring.
Everything.
Everything.
He's a part of that.
He contributed.
I could stir the pot a little bit.
Me, it's just being the dad.
No, Carson always complains.
You complain about being.
like sore all the time.
I do.
Again, like, again, you're a catcher, so it makes sense, but...
I play it up a little bit more than it probably should.
He wears a shirt every single day that says everything hurts.
I mean.
And...
That's like, man.
That's like, you're like, ma'.
Yeah.
That's...
Just an old guy.
So I think of what I think of you is meh.
Yeah.
I bet you when I get hit on a foul ball, everybody's laugh.
Wait, how about Dan's beginning?
hit in the mouth the other night.
Holy shit.
That was crazy.
Yeah.
He had to ask if his teeth were still like all his teeth.
I'm sure.
Like, oh my God.
Yeah, that's a big deal.
Does his odds go down in the Bachelor after the hit?
Yeah, probably.
He cannot be the Bachelor with no teeth.
Which is crazy.
I mean, how old.
Really?
Like, that's what I'm saying.
Battle scars, man.
Not on the Bachelor though.
Two stitches.
He had to get stitched up.
Did he?
Yeah.
Wow.
I would imagine that hurts so bad.
Yeah.
He's chewing on gone.
Yeah, you're shooting on Gauss.
You know, like, when you get hurt and it's more surprising than anything,
that, to me, that's what it sounds like or seems like that was.
Brutal.
Okay, what's an unpopular opinion that you have?
Like, okay, I'm trying to think, like any conspiracy theory stuff or,
what's an unpopular opinion?
Don't get me going because we'll be here all night.
Yeah, my mind just went to a ton of different places.
conspiracy stuff.
Feel free to share.
Shoot.
We can skip if you guys want to skip.
I mean, this is going to be crazy.
I love it.
Babe Ruth never existed is one that I like.
Oh, wow.
Really?
He never existed.
I heard some pitcher with the Mariners,
what's his name, Salcedo?
You remember him?
Salcedo, yeah, lefty.
I think he did some podcast on Zoom when he was
like going down the rabbit hole with somebody about how Babe Ruth never existed.
I was like, dude, that's awesome.
Wow.
So you're going to double down right now?
Well, it's like, we always talk about how like the game's evolving and people might
as well have been like underhanding the ball to that guy.
And he's regarded still as one of the best players ever.
And he might as well dive further into it and be like, well, maybe he just never existed.
I love it.
I love it.
That's crazy.
That's a good one.
The moon landing picture?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Are those pictures?
Yeah, the moon landing.
I don't really want to get into this.
This is turning south.
Let's keep moving.
Who do you have pinned in your contacts?
You know, you can like pin, I think, what, nine people?
I got three and it's man to mine, my mom, and my agent that I talk to the most.
Cute.
Yeah, my wife.
That's it?
Just one.
Oh, cute.
Yeah.
Easy.
You guys are simple guys.
Love it.
man. Why do I have nine people pinned in my phone?
I gotta get rid of some people.
I'm like a, I'm a caller more than a textor.
Yeah. Love.
Especially for your age. That's a good thing.
I'd rather, I hate, I don't respond.
I don't respond to people over text. So like I'd rather call or FaceTime.
Doesn't matter. I'm a cold face timer. Like I'll, I'll, I'll, uh, I'll hit you out of the blue.
But no, I just like, I like hearing people's tone of voice and like I really know what they're, what they mean.
Yes.
Text is so, you never know.
Yeah.
I love that.
How many unread text messages do you have?
Zero.
Oh, God.
I love you for that.
No.
That's how I am.
Like, truly, are you going to pull it out right now?
No, I actually checked my pockets for my phone earlier for another question.
And I don't have it, thankfully, because I'm in like.
Are you like thousands?
Thousands.
Oh, that gives me anxiety.
No, there is.
The Cubs asked me at Cubs con a couple of years.
ago about it and know how many unread texts I had.
And it was like in the fives, bro.
No, how do you live?
How do you sleep at night?
Well, I changed my number.
I changed my number this off-season, thankfully.
That's got to be nice.
I think I was a little too generous, like giving my phone number out.
Yeah.
Like, people would inevitably text me, and I'd be like, I don't really need to know you.
So, yeah.
I think you have to change your number every few years.
That's what I've decided.
I probably will.
Yeah.
My Venmo got leaked last year with my phone number.
Oh, no.
I started getting, like, heinous text during the playoffs.
Oh, shit.
Yeah, no, no, no.
I got a lot of, like, Mason Miller.
He's a closer for the Padres.
I was about to say who's on.
I got his face sent to me so many times.
He's your daddy.
He owns.
Wow.
Yeah.
Yeah, you were due for a number change.
Yeah.
Yep.
Okay, great.
Yep.
Okay, we're going to play a game, and then you guys are done, okay?
All right, it's hot or not.
And so I'm going to give you a scenario about a woman, and you just have to tell me if you think it's hot or not.
All right.
Okay.
She's not into baseball.
Sure.
Yeah.
Hot.
Okay.
Yeah.
I don't need that.
Great.
She doesn't live in Chicago.
Oh, no.
Just, you know, make things tricky.
I mean, we can travel.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It makes it harder.
Yeah.
It does make it hard.
Hot?
Sure.
Great.
She knows.
The Cubs record and all of your stats.
Not.
Not.
Don't need it.
She's sober.
Hot, sure.
Do what you do.
Her mom is her best friend and they talk every single day.
Every single day.
Hot.
I don't care.
It's fine.
I value relationships with parents and family.
It's totally fine.
It's not someone I'd be like hot though.
I'd be like, that's cool, awesome.
I'm glad to, oh, your mom again.
All right.
Great.
Again.
She tells you she's nervous on the first date
and she wants to take shots to calm down.
Sure, hot, let's go.
Yeah, loosen up a little bit.
Yeah, I'm all for that, yeah.
I love it.
She wants to share locations.
Nope.
No.
But, like, if it just happens,
I'm fine.
And how does it naturally just happen sharing a location?
Like say like, uh...
Like for an hour, sure, but you're like...
Yeah, it doesn't need to be in the indefinitely one.
So I share my location...
That's it.
That's it.
I share my location with my boys, so like...
That's nice.
But your girl is off the table?
Well, no, like, if it's a girl that I am, like, if it was Madeline, I'd be like,
yeah, that's fine.
Well, she's a girlfriend.
It's not just like someone you're like casually dating.
No, absolutely not.
Fair, well, fair.
Okay, yeah.
Personal space.
Yeah. Okay. She loves PDA.
It depends how much.
I mean, she wants to hold your hand and kind of like make out at the bar and like...
I don't need the bar makeout.
Yeah.
You can do without that.
Handholding. Handholding's cool. Yeah.
Okay. Like, are you and your wife?
Yeah. We'll hold hands. Yeah, yeah. But you're not like making out.
No. Not in public.
Right, right, right.
Yeah, I don't need that.
She sleeps with you on the first date.
Also depends.
Does depend.
I think most of the time I would be like I don't,
like my first thought would be like, I don't know if I,
like what else is there to like discover?
There's no chase maybe.
But I feel like some rapper said like Drake or something.
He was like, you're lying if you don't sleep with people on the first date.
I'm not lying though.
Like that's not really.
I love that we're going to Drake for dating.
I feel like it was Drake that said it.
I feel like it was.
It might not have been, but...
But okay, I guess my point where the question is,
if you like a girl, does that affect it or no?
Like, if there's real feelings there, would that change things?
I think, like, how it's handled.
Like, if...
I feel like, again, like, trusting your gut.
Like, if you caught the vibe that that's all that either one of you was there for,
then that is what it is.
But I like conversations.
I like talking about...
things and talking through things.
So, like, maybe if it was, like, vocalized as to,
hey, we're going to do this and how do you feel about that?
Okay.
That would be nice.
Feel out the situation.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, great.
Love it.
She occasionally calls you dude and bro.
I mean, I've been called dude.
Dude.
She was mad at you, though.
Yeah, she was.
The occasional dude's fine.
I don't like bro.
Okay.
Come on, bro.
The occasional dude's fine.
Bro just feels a little too like.
Like a bro.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like me and him talking.
I don't call you bro that much.
No, you don't.
Or I'll ask you something.
You're like, bro.
Like, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Fair, fair.
Okay.
If it sounds natural, fine.
But I'd still probably be like the, it's forced.
You're like, ooh.
Okay, yeah.
Makes sense.
Yeah.
Okay, you guys, you survived.
That's it.
That was it.
We made it.
You guys are so great.
Thank you guys.
much for being here. You guys got to check out Pete's necklace and go Cubbies, baby. We'll be
ruined you on. And thank you guys so much for being here too. Yeah, thanks for showing up.
