Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a Dear Media production. This is Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, a podcast all about getting real and open on everything from sex, relationships, reality TV, wellness, family, and so much more. And just a fair warning, there will probably be some oversharing. Wow, guys. Here we are. Post-show debrief. Cause I got all the power, yeah. Wow, guys. Here we are, post-show debrief. Obviously, the first two episodes of Honestly Cavalry
Starting point is 00:00:31 are out, and I'm really excited to get into them. You have to excuse my appearance. I just landed in LA from New York. I haven't done that flight, by the way, in like 12 years. And I forgot how long it is. It's a six-hour flight. I literally landed, got to my condo, scarfed down some food and here I am. So this is what you're getting today. But I'm really excited to get into this.
Starting point is 00:00:52 I love that I, you know, I'm waiting to do this podcast until the two shows aired and I've gotten a lot of feedback on the shows so we can kind of get into what everyone is thinking and feeling as well. So the timing on this is great. So all right, let's kick this thing off. Honestly, Cavalieri, the first two episodes with Kim Zolciak and the Laguna season two cast. So episode one, I love episode one because it's the first time you get to see a glimpse into my world with my kids. it's the first time you get to see a glimpse into my world with my kids. Obviously I've been on reality TV a long time but you've never seen my family dynamic like this and I will say this show is the first show that I really
Starting point is 00:01:35 feel like captures who I am as a person and me in my element. We talked about it a thousand times. Laguna Beach, The Hills, those were very much manipulated, set up. Very Cavalry had a lot of real elements, but it was also, a lot of it was set up. And I've thought about maybe doing a few Very Cavalry re-watch episodes to kind of give you guys a good look at those episodes because that, for me, that show is more of a hybrid of reality and kind of set up situational things. But there were very real elements in it. But again, because I didn't show my kids,
Starting point is 00:02:10 that was the biggest part of my life and you couldn't see that. And so I'm happy that now everyone has gotten to see my kids a little bit. And I stand by everything I've said where I would never do a reality show just about my kids and I. This was a way to kind of
Starting point is 00:02:26 dip their toe in, give you guys a glance, but then really have it be about, you know, being on the road and the tour and everything else instead of just about my kids. Because what I've said is I want my kids to remain kids and I stand by that. It's not like all of a sudden they're going to be on the podcast every week. They're going to be on the show. Like you've had a lot of them here in the last few weeks and now I'm going to really pull it back because again, I stand by what I said. Anyways, I do love that you get to see them. You get to see their personalities. I mean, my kids really were 100% themselves. Camden with the microphone comment, like him loving
Starting point is 00:02:58 having a microphone on was one of my favorite parts of the entire show because I just knew Camden out of all three of them was gonna absolutely love this experience. So when he said that, I just was like, I knew it, I love it. And I mean, I think you guys probably saw on the podcast too how he just comes to life in front of the camera, which is a little scary, not gonna lie. Sailor also though, when she was mimicking me
Starting point is 00:03:20 with the monologue, I thought was really cute. Making bang bang chicken, if you guys have my cookbooks, that recipe that I made for dinner isn't truly simple, my most recent cookbook, and that is a recipe that we make probably once a week, if not once every two weeks. That's one of my favorites and my kids' favorites, so if you guys have not tried the bang bang chicken,
Starting point is 00:03:38 definitely try that recipe. But all right, I will say, so this show is as real as you can get when it comes to a reality show. The little things that maybe are not the most real or most natural was Justin doesn't ever actually really come over for dinner. Like, okay, that was show led, you know, like Justin was over doing podcast prep and then he stays for dinner. Like that stuff doesn't really happen. Justin and I actually don't see each other as much as people would think. We talk all day every day, but we don't actually see each other that much. I would say maybe once every two, three weeks. And maybe. Sometimes it's not even that much. So that's the only thing that's
Starting point is 00:04:16 maybe like not super normal for us. But then we're off to Atlanta. I was so nervous the entire day, even on the airplane, pulling up to the theater, just seeing it back. I could just feel all of my nerves. And God, I mean, honestly, this was one of the most nervous I've ever been. And leading up to the tour, I didn't drink for, I think, two months or something like that. And I wasn't planning on doing a tequila shot
Starting point is 00:04:42 before I went out on stage, because I knew when I got on stage, I was going to do a tequila shot. Because every show on stage because I knew when I got on stage, I was going to do a tequila shot. Because every show, what I did was, in the first five minutes, I pulled five people up from the audience to take a shot with me, to break the ice because I did a whole spiel about how any time in my whole career that I've been nervous,
Starting point is 00:04:58 that's what I've done to alleviate the nerves, was take a shot of tequila. So I wasn't planning on doing one before I went out on stage, but I was so fucking nervous that I did do a shot. And I had a lot of friends with me. I hate that the show had to cut out all of my friends because I had two of my really good friends from Tennessee with me, Casey and Jenny Lee.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Shout out to my best friends. And then my friend Charlene from LA, who you do get to see little glimpses of, but I mean, not a ton. I had a couple of my agents there, my publicists. Like, I had a crew of people in Atlanta, and they kind of cut all of that out. But I did take a shot with all my people,
Starting point is 00:05:31 and so that was really fun, to have my support system there with me. I also kind of love that this show will kind of, like, go back in time, so it's not linear, the timeline. Like, they had us in Atlanta. I'm about to go out on stage, and then they cut back to me then dropping off the kids
Starting point is 00:05:48 the day before at my ex's house to say goodbye to them for spring break. This was weird, and I don't know why I didn't catch this in the edit, because I am an executive producer and I do make little notes on the show. But they said I was dropping my kids off, I think at like 5 a.m. It was actually 5 p.m., which, whatever,
Starting point is 00:06:06 neither here nor there, that doesn't really matter. But I saw that, so I watched it live in real time, which I didn't think I was gonna do, because by the time it aired, I had already seen it like probably three or four times. But I did, I was in New York, I had just done Watch What Happens Live, and I think I was kind of on this high with the show airing,
Starting point is 00:06:24 and Justin was watching it live, and everybody else. So I was like, all right, well, I'll just watch it live. So I caught that when I watched it live, which again, not a big deal, but I just noticed little things like that because I'm so particular. I want everything to be exactly how it happened. So just kind of a funny call out.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Okay, and then, oh, I will say Justin being there in addition to all of my other friends, but Justin being there, in addition to all of my other friends, but Justin being there in particular was so important for me because you guys can see it in Atlanta right before I go out on stage. He's right there with me and he's hyping me up and he's getting me excited. I can't imagine if he wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Like what would that moment right before I went on stage look like? I would probably be really quiet in my head and I know just having him there and feeding off of his energy is so beneficial for me. It helps me so much in moments like that. So shout out, Justin, I love you so freaking much and having him there on every step of the way was huge for me.
Starting point is 00:07:15 The audience in Atlanta was fucking awesome. I could not have asked for a better audience to walk out to. The energy was so great. They immediately put me at ease. And I was really happy that I did this whole shot bit because it really did put me at ease and help break the ice.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Instead of me just coming out and immediately going into a 10, 15 minute monologue, I was able to kind of just get comfortable on stage in front of 1,000 people, take a little shot, and then get into it. So I'm really happy that I decided to do that. And by the way, side note, we just did an influencer event for Uncommon James and Uncommon Beauty in Nashville. And last minute my team was like, can you say a few words? And normally an event like that, I would have been like, no, I can't. Like that, I'm so terrified of doing something like that.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Even more so an intimate setting. And I was like, no, you know what? Absolutely no problem. Cause I just did a podcast tour and I no longer have this fear of public speaking. So I was able to do it, no problem. And that was a huge moment for me. So thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Kim Zolciak was awesome. You know, when she came out and did this podcast, or she hadn't done any interviews, I think since her divorce, she definitely had never talked about it. And so that was a big deal. And I really appreciate her coming out and being so honest and so open and so vulnerable.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And she dropped a shit ton of bombs. I mean, what'd she say? Cameras under beds. Oh God. Oh, I also, I always die when I hear the Housewives say that their shows are 100% real because I can't even fathom. I really do feel like though with the Housewives, and I know she kind of disagreed with this,
Starting point is 00:08:55 but I do feel like they know, like the Housewives know if they don't have drama, they're literally not gonna be on the show next season. So I always feel like subconsciously or consciously, they are bringing the heat and bringing the drama. Here's an ad for all of my business owners or soon to be business owners. And the tricky part with doing a 30 minute TV show is really the show is only 20 minutes with ads. And so these interviews were anywhere from 30 minutes to I think an
Starting point is 00:14:26 hour and maybe 10 minutes or something. And obviously that has to be cut down to just a couple of minutes to be on the show. So I'm excited for everyone to hear the full live podcast show as well, which is actually going to come out two days later. So the bonus episodes of the live podcast shows are going to come out every Thursday for the next six weeks later. So the bonus episodes of the live podcast shows are gonna come out every Thursday for the next six weeks now. So Kim's will be this Thursday, so in two days. So definitely check that out as well
Starting point is 00:14:53 because then you can really hear the whole interview. And she, cause she just, she said so much and I just absolutely adore Kim and I love her so much. There was a moment in the first episode where I talk about why headlines get to me so much. And I say that it's probably from my Laguna Beach trauma and why authenticity is so important to me and why the slightest thing that's off just really irks me,
Starting point is 00:15:16 which is actually kind of what I just said with like the AM, PM thing. Like that probably shouldn't get to me, but I want things to be so accurate and so authentic because my life since I was 17 has been the opposite of that. And it's interesting having a new show on the air now with social media. And I don't know, I just feel like it is kind of triggering
Starting point is 00:15:42 and I don't wanna say traumatizing, but it's like bringing is kind of triggering and I don't want to say traumatizing, but it's like bringing up some of my past trauma because I've realized I have to get to a place of being comfortable, constantly being misunderstood because that's the name of the game when you have notoriety. It just is what it is. And every single person who is famous, who I've ever spoken to deals with the exact same thing. No matter what you do or say, not everyone will understand what you meant or what you
Starting point is 00:16:12 mean when you say anything at all. People always see other people or hear other people through their own lens, meaning what someone has been through in their whole life, their trauma, their insecurities, their triggers, that all plays a role in how someone perceives you. And that's why no one's opinion of anyone has anything to do with that person. Meaning people's opinions of me actually have nothing to do with me. That's about them and where they're at in their life and forever, for whatever reason, if I'm triggering them
Starting point is 00:16:45 or why, whatever I said they're mad about because of some past trauma that they have or whatever it is. Because if you're rooted in who you are, if you're comfortable in who you are, if you love your life, you love yourself, you can let stuff like that kind of roll off your back. If there's something that even maybe you don't agree with,
Starting point is 00:17:02 you're like, whatever, like you understand that that person's on a different journey and maybe you don't fully understand what they just said. Anyways, all this to say is being on Laguna Beach, feeling like I had zero control over my voice, being on the hills, living out this whole public world and the tabloids, and I never had social media where I could say anything.
Starting point is 00:17:19 I always felt like no one ever understood me and I still do feel like that. I mean, I think this show is a great snapshot into who I am in my life, but I still, I've been reading comments, which I don't normally do. And I don't know why I am today on the plane. I was like, we're not doing this anymore. But I just, I will never convince everyone of everything.
Starting point is 00:17:40 And it just is what it is. But that's why I want everything to be so authentic because then if you hate me for me, I don't care. It's when you don't understand what I'm trying to say that gets me all up in arms. I feel like I just rambled a lot, but hopefully that makes sense. Anyways, oh, there was a clip that,
Starting point is 00:17:59 and it's kind of what I'm saying, but there's a clip where I say I value transparency and honesty and then it goes into, I'm just trying to teach my kids to be good people that soundbite made zero sense to me and what they did was they obviously took two different thoughts and put them together but when I heard that back I was like that doesn't even make sense I value transparency and honestly and I'm trying to teach my kids to be good people I guess maybe when they edited that bite together they were trying to say like yeah to be good people. I guess maybe when they edited that bite together, they were trying to say like,
Starting point is 00:18:26 yeah, I value honesty and transparency and I'm trying to like teach my kids that as well maybe, but I thought that was a weird edit anyways. Oh my God, this question a lot. I did a Q and A on Instagram today and I noticed it on the show. So I called Jackson Moe and a lot of people were like, why do you call him Moe?
Starting point is 00:18:45 Because I think the whole time in the show, I only referred to him as Moe. So Jackson, I used to call Jackson Moe, and it just sort of morphed into Moe and Moezy. He's actually in my phone as Moezy. I call him Moe and Moezy, and I call Sailor Poosie, because her little nickname was always Sazy Poo,
Starting point is 00:19:03 and then that morphed into Poooz, Poozie. I mean, I don't even know how these names. But so Mozi and Poozie. And then Cam I call Camquat or Cameru. So just wanted to clear that up because I had a lot of random questions about that. Oh, do you guys want to hear something so funny? So leading up, so I think after I had announced that Kim was coming on the show, I had a comment on my Instagram from Croy, her ex-husband.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And I just thought this was really great. And then I sent it to her and we both were like, God, what an idiot. But okay, so Croy commented on a podcast clip about narcissists. Mind you, this is from a long-ass time ago. He had to like dig through my Instagram and he said, the ironic ignorance and handing one a platform with the full-on disorder. So, Kroy's calling me a narcissist because
Starting point is 00:19:59 he's so mad that I'm having Kim on the podcast tour. Well, okay, cry. I love when people call me a narcissist. I'm like, okay, it's always people, well, it's either a narcissist like Croy or it's people who have no idea what narcissist even means. But I thought that was interesting. Well, you're a grown ass man. You are a father and you are coming on my Instagram and calling me a narcissist.
Starting point is 00:20:24 It's quite literally for just having your ex-wife on my podcast. If that doesn't scream guilty, I don't know what does. You know, like you're just trying to really get ahead of it, aren't you, Croix? Thought that was kind of lame. And yeah, I mean, Kim really went for it, talking about how Croix has stolen all of her jewelry.
Starting point is 00:20:40 We said earlier, the camera's under the bed. I just, she's been through it, you know? And I love that she stood by what a great mom she's always been, because at the end of the day, that is important. And when you're going through a divorce with a narcissist, it is so difficult to try to consistently be the better person.
Starting point is 00:20:58 And I just feel for her because I know that's really hard. And again, I just thought she was really brave for coming out there and saying her side of the story. So I'm also really curious who her least favorite housewife is since she wouldn't say it on the show. I should text her and ask her. Here's a new brand I'm excited to talk to you guys about and that is Simply Pop. Simply has launched a new prebiotic soda, Simply Pop, the new Juicy Soda.

They are made with real fruit juice, and Simply Pop supports gut health with six grams of prebiotic fiber. There's no sugar added, and it's sweetened with juices and monk fruit extract. Starting point is 00:26:11 So I just did all these interviews and I got asked about Lowe in every freaking interview because I sat on the show. Well, during the drinking game, I didn't pick who I would rather be in jail with, Lauren or Lowe. But in the meet and greet, I told someone I hate Low more. I don't actually hate Low. Low is not even someone that I think about ever, really. I don't hate Lauren or Low. And I think the only reason I said that was because I have more of a toxic, I guess, past with Low, only because of the Hills Birkenbeg drama that we've talked about.
Starting point is 00:26:46 I'm not gonna get into it again, but if you know, you know. And that's, I just thought that was really shitty and really below the belt and speaks to her character. So that's why I said what I said about Lo, but I don't actually hate her. I don't actually care about her at all. I'm not saying that in a bitchy mean way. I'm just saying like, she's not someone who I think about unless I'm asked about her at all. I'm not saying that in a bitchy mean way. I'm just saying like she's not someone who I think about
Starting point is 00:27:06 unless I'm asked about her in an interview or something like that. Anywho, okay, so then we get into episode two. And we're off to Chicago for two shows back to back, which I will never do again if I do another podcast tour. This was the one thing that really, this was probably the worst part of the whole tour. Doing two shows back-to-back was extremely aggressive. And, you know, especially with a cast of six as the first, because that alone, you know, it's going to be long because there are six
Starting point is 00:27:41 people out there. And that just lends itself to being a longer podcast naturally. So that was really dumb on my part. So it was Laguna and then Harry, and I say in the show, the second episode was supposed to be repeat players. You guys see on here that Mark was supposed to come out, and listen, Mark was initially floated as a guest, and when we were coming up with themes for each show, and we knew Harry was coming,
Starting point is 00:28:08 at this point I had known that Johnny was gonna come up, my eighth grade boyfriend, who you guys will see on tomorrow night's episode. And so I thought Mark could fit in well to that, and I was gonna call it repeat players, which I still did call it repeat players. But Mark was locked in, and everything that you guys saw on the show was in
Starting point is 00:28:27 real time. So when I'm calling Talon and telling Talon that Mark pulled out because of his DM, that was in real time. Like that all really happened. The show was on a Saturday. We were filming that week leading up. I want to say Mark pulled out Wednesday. I mean, like it was a couple days before. And that sucked, obviously. I was bummed because I had every show locked in early and I did that because I know how I am. I have to be really prepared for me to put my nerves at ease and feel confident.
Starting point is 00:29:00 I have to be prepared. Everything was locked in. And so that kind of threw me because then I had to go and change the show. And I thought that would have been good because, I have to be prepared. Everything was locked in. And so that kind of threw me because then I had to go and change the show. And I thought that would have been good because, I mean, Mark was obviously someone who I've been in a ton of headlines with.
Starting point is 00:29:11 I thought that that would have been a fun conversation. And the thing is, when Talyn DM'd Mark and Harry, Mark screenshot it and sent it to me because he didn't know who Talon was. He didn't know what was going on. He was so confused by the whole thing, which is then later in the show when we're talking about how Talon went up to Harry
Starting point is 00:29:33 and gave him like this awkward handshake. And I was like, he doesn't know who Talon is because I already had just dealt with that with Mark. I think that was kind of like where my frustration was, was with Talon leading up to the show, even before the show, where there were like all these little things that I was already kind of frustrated about,
Starting point is 00:29:49 him ruining the Mark thing. Talon was the one that told me I should ask him about dating advice, that came from Talon. So even on stage after everything happened, I was like, okay, I'm gonna give Talon this moment because he really wants this moment for some reason. But that came from Talon. He was trying to tell the producers that he had ideas for the show leading up to it.
Starting point is 00:30:09 And just, it was a lot. Like, I could tell from the jump, you know, Talon was nervous. He was asking me questions. I did tell Talon. I had the most questions for him. And I was gonna ask him about prom. And that was kind of all I really wanted to tell Talon. But Talon knew I was gonna ask him about prom. And that was kind of all I really wanted to tell Talon, but Talon knew I was gonna ask him about prom.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And I don't know this for a fact, but I think what happened was Talon got out on stage and I think that he thought I was gonna kind of like diminish what we had and be like, and I did say, did we even go to prom together? Because I think in high school, he never thought that I really liked him. So I think on stage, he was trying to beat me to it.
Starting point is 00:30:48 That's my theory, I'm sticking to it. I could ask him, but I will say, listen, Talon was nervous, Talon was drunk. I totally appreciate the whole cast does not do this stuff normally. I was nervous and I do this stuff regularly. So I understand it's a nerve wracking thing. And I actually, Tal talent on its own,
Starting point is 00:31:10 I don't think it would have been that bad. For me, what happened was the thing with talent happened and the show running over. And again, I've said this on the podcast a few times, but just to understand where I was at mentally, I'm doing this show that I know is running way over. And in my head, I have to change, go do a meet and greet with 200 people
Starting point is 00:31:30 and then do a completely different show. And so that's where a lot of my stress and frustration was coming from. I'm sitting there just being like, I have to go, I have to go, but I also have a whole show that I wanna get to and all these questions that I prepared that I really wanted to talk to them about. And even on stage, I had to skip a ton of questions for time.
Starting point is 00:31:48 So that's where I was at. And it took me a few days actually to really understand why I was so triggered in the beginning. And so for me, what it was, was talent immediately coming out and trying to basically diminish what we ever had and make it solely about sex, which, not to ruin tomorrow night's episode for you,
Starting point is 00:32:08 but then happened almost identically with Johnny in the next episode. And so those two things happened back to back for me and really rocked my world. And we'll get into that more next week, but that was my trigger because I've had a lot of men in my life behind closed doors tell me how great I am and how in love they are with me and then
Starting point is 00:32:30 publicly in front of people try to like knock it down and basically make it seem like what we have actually isn't that special and it's only about sex. So that was a huge trigger for me, but besides that, I actually thought Talon was pretty funny. The show made it seem like I was really rocked by his Montana Boy comment. That actually, I think I'm pretty sure I laughed in that, and you guys will hear it in the actual podcast episode. I do think he was funny, and it wasn't actually that bad.
Starting point is 00:33:01 It was just that one thing of trying to just make it seem like all he cared about with me was sex. That's the trigger for me. But Talon and I have talked multiple times. After the podcast tour, we've talked in between, but then also he did apologize the other night after he saw the show. And I really do appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:33:18 And I really don't think Talon has any ill will whatsoever. I think Talon is a good guy. I think Talon has a big heart. Talon and I will forever be friends. I mean, I'm not, you know, I'm over it. I got over it pretty quickly, but that was why I was upset. How about, what time are we at? You're at 26 minutes. Okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Do you wanna talk about the Glenn Powell thing? No. I mean, no, yeah, no. It's already been way too much. So the last portion of the Laguna interview on the show is Jason and Talyn being like, let's open it up to questions. And I definitely looked a little bitchy being like, what? We can't do that because we still had to do a drinking game
Starting point is 00:33:59 and the show had run over like an hour or something crazy. And the whole time I'm literally sitting there going, I have to get to another show you guys. And I ended every podcast show with a Q&A with the audience. I would bring Justin out, we would do a Q&A. And we were so over time at the Laguna episode that I think I was only able to do two questions or something with the audience, which was a huge bummer.
Starting point is 00:34:21 And the audience was really bummed about that. So I did definitely seem bitchy, but it was because we literally had to still do a drinking game and we were already way over. So that was definitely, I was very annoyed at that point. So that was Chicago. And basically my takeaway from that episode is that it was fun.
Starting point is 00:34:43 I loved seeing everybody and we've remained really good friends over the years. Last time we were all together, we actually did an Uncommon James campaign a couple years ago. And we've all remained in touch. The girls were in Nashville last year, and I love them so much. And I really do appreciate them coming to Chicago and doing this, and it was really fun.
Starting point is 00:35:03 My biggest regret is, honestly, that I couldn't hang out with them more because I was working the whole time. I saw them earlier that day getting coffee in the city, which was great, but that was kind of it. And then afterwards we actually, well, we can talk about it more next week, but after Harry's episode and the Laguna episode, we actually all went to a bar and they cut all of that, which is kind of a bummer. And I'll give you more of the details about that next week,
Starting point is 00:35:27 since it is coming off of Harry and Johnny's episode. But I still love Talon. I love this entire cast. These will be my friends forever. Talon to me was like the drunk guy at the bar that you're just like laughing at like, okay, buddy, like he's just drunk, you know? So no harm there. And I hope that you guys loved the first two episodes. I've gotten a lot of great feedback. People have asked me why it's not an hour, and honestly, I think it's good because while we definitely had enough footage for an hour,
Starting point is 00:35:55 we live in a society today where it's so fast-paced. Everyone's used to TikTok, and I think everyone's attention spans are so short that the way this show moves and how it's so fast, I think is so great. And I also love that it's not so much about drama. Like, yes, there is obvious real drama with like Talon and you know, next week with Johnny and everything,
Starting point is 00:36:16 but the show, the premise of the show is not for drama and nastiness, which I love. So I'm really proud of this show. I'm so excited for you guys to see the rest of them I just saw Craig and Austin's episode on the plane here and oh my god, that's gonna be the best episode So soon in tomorrow night, honestly Cavalieri Kim Zolciak's episode is Thursday and then Laguna's will be next Thursday So for the next six weeks or so, we're gonna be cranking everything out. I love you guys and I'll see you next week so we're going to be cranking everything out. I love you guys and I'll see you next week.
