Starting point is 00:00:00 Life Uncut acknowledges the traditional custodians of country whose lands were never ceded. We pay our respects to their elders past and present. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. This episode was recorded on Darug Wollongong land. Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura. I'm Brittany. And we have a very big episode for you today because we are interviewing someone who, I
Starting point is 00:00:34 mean, actually, it was the most downloaded interview of last year. A friend of Life Uncut. Yep. It's been 12 months between Life Uncut recordings. I love how we're breadcrumbing who we're interviewing. Rebel Wilson! We have Rebel Wilson on the podcast. So much has changed in Rebel's life over the last 12 months.
Starting point is 00:00:49 So we thought it would be so good to get her back on to speak about her same-sex relationship with Ramona about that absolutely cooked situation with the Sydney Morning Herald journalist who tried to force Rebel Wilson into coming out about her relationship before she was ready to. And, of course, she's had a baby, a beautiful little girl called Royce. And I just think I look back at now between 12 months, and I mean I've obviously spoken to Rebel about this,
Starting point is 00:01:12 but the difference that just 12 months can make in someone's life, and I know people say that all the time, like you don't know where you're going to be or what your life is going to be in just 12 months' time. this is a prime example of that like her entire life changed in an instant totally and I also just love how open she was about speaking about surrogacy about her journey to motherhood and also about her experiences with mum shaming which you know what every mother knows it's something that you cannot escape we also wanted to say a very happy valentine's day so of course to
Starting point is 00:01:45 celebrate valentine's day we asked you guys what are the worst presents that you have ever received for Valentine's. Yep. And I'm in my first argument with Ben. So. All right. Well, let's get into it. Guess what day it is. Love day. Is it really that exciting though? It's Valentine's day. Do you know what? There's a part of me that's like, yes, it's Valentine's day because we love love. It's literally our tagline. But then there's another part that's like. Capitalism. Yeah. Someone's just making a shitload of money off people being forced to buy presents for other people. Cause if they don't buy the presents for the other people, they feel like they're not doing what everyone else is doing, which is buying presents for other people, not because they want to,
Starting point is 00:02:24 because they have to, because of capitalism. Okay. Also in saying this, I mean, we've been having a 15% off sale at Tony Mays, so I've been totally subscribed to that. I don't celebrate it, but I'm happy for everyone else who does put it that way. Yeah. So what do you think of Valentine's Day? You actually think not much of it. I feel like one of my boyfriends I dated, he kind of set the precedent for it. Like it was like a very early relationship. We dated for six years and he never ever ever ever bought me a valentine's day gift did he buy you other gifts no nothing so no he was gifted verse no fake holiday did he buy you a gift actually no he bought me two gifts in six years one was a salvador dali book which was bought four months after my
Starting point is 00:03:02 birthday as a belated birthday present and the other one was a necklace so ugly that i never wore it but it was also was bought after my birthday and did it bother you at the time yes but you were just so in love that you were like like did you say anything did you bring it up and he still didn't yes and that was still okay with you for six years I was young dumb and just desperately in love apparently young dumb and no presence okay young dumb and presentless I'm still presentless Matt and I we don't celebrate Valentine's Day I mean we roll over and say happy Valentine's Day but that's about it but you would roll over and well anyway right yeah but I mean I don't normally say happy Valentine's Day at the end of it so that's just kind of that's about the level of
Starting point is 00:03:41 effort that we go to. Our very first Valentine's Day, I remember Matt said, I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. I think it's a crock of shit. But the flowers arrived. They were there. And now, no, nothing yet. Because there's this feeling of like, even when people don't really believe in it, they still feel like they have to. The pressure. Yes, they feel the pressure. Ben sent me flowers a couple of days early. So I got flowers a few days ago, but he made a point of saying, I'm doing this for no reason. Like there's not a day that's making me do this. now i'm not going to get them on valentine's day talk to me in five years time he will not be sending you flowers four days before valentine's day or if he does i'll eat my own shit again
Starting point is 00:04:20 isn't it funny and why do we do this as well i'm hoping you're wrong laura i am hoping that he's one of those rarities but like do we act like different people at the start of relationships just to really suck people in and then do we just let ourselves go and like let the romance go let physically let ourselves go like you know like how do we know if it's fake or not I mean I think partially yes but also no it's not that you let yourself go and it's not necessarily that you just don't put in any effort I think you put in so much effort at the start almost like an unattainable like you can't kind of keep up that momentum some people do I'm very happy for you but like for a lot of us life just goes back to normal and then you have other priorities in life that ebb and
Starting point is 00:05:02 flow and, you know, your partner's always your priority, but you can't be in this constant phase of just like absolute obsession with each other or you get nothing else done. I, yeah, that's true. I'm not being very productive at the moment. You're always on your phone. How many text messages do you think you send to Ben a day? Actually, not that many because the time difference is so vast. So we have this like rush hour, rush hour in the morning. So on the way here to work, we have like a three-way conversation Keisha is a part of our relationship because I speak to him on the phone in the car and Keisha's in the car so the three of us talk in the morning which is how does that go when it
Starting point is 00:05:38 comes to um your sex video calls I make her put her headphones in oh then we have another rush hour in the evening like so we just swap so it's only like an hour or so of like intensity and then it's done for the day but when you look at it as a percentage of the time that you guys share that actually overlaps would you say like 90 of that time is spent communicating with each other yes it's probably like 90 of the time but i don't think i'm gonna get flowers from ben again because so he sent these flowers i got them obviously i showed them to him i was like oh my gosh like this is beautiful thank you he goes is that it and i was like sorry he's like is that all you got and i was like yeah he's like that's what 150 gets you and he was so disappointed and i was like yeah
Starting point is 00:06:23 and it was like, it was literally a dozen roses. That's it. He's like, there's not even any shrubbery. He's like, where's the shrubbery? I'm like, there was no shrubbery. Do we call it shrubbery? He did, but he's foreign. I had a conversation with him then. And I said, look, I love what you're doing, but I don't expect it because it is a lot of money and it's a beautiful gesture. But at the end of the day, they die. And you guys wonder why I keep flowers in my house for like four months. You guys come over and you're like, you need to throw these flowers out, Brittany. They're dead. And I'm like, yeah, but they were a hundred dollars. I also think that on Valentine's Day. Sorry to any florists out there, but they also skimp on it. Like everything
Starting point is 00:06:56 goes up. It's the inflation. It's a premium. If you spend $150 on a bunch of flowers, you are getting like $90 worth of flowers. You want the shrubbery. Yeah. Throw in a bit of foliage. It usually gets to about three o'clock. And you know that if you go into any Woolworths or into any service station, there is going to be a horde of men in there who are buying. And I'm okay. I'm being a little bit gender biased here, but the stereotype is true. There is going to be a horde of men in there buying Woolworths flowers, chocolates from the aisle, like because they're panic buying. They didn't organize. They didn't think. And there is nothing wrong with Woolworths flowers, but there is something wrong with not being prepared. I feel like I would be that person
Starting point is 00:07:34 that does it that day. Ben and I have had our first fight. Was it the fight today? It's an ongoing argument, right? It's gone over a couple of days. On the scheme of fighting, how severe is the five. I wouldn't say severe, but it's a, it's an argument and we're both stubborn. So neither of us are backing down. And I actually don't know if I know the right answer. I'm pretending I'm right, but I don't, I could be wrong. I want your opinion. It's all about who said, I love you first. Now, before you just say this is obvious because someone said it, it happened a little while ago. I was doing breakfast radio with our good friend, Mitch Turi. And in one of the breaks while the music was playing, you know, there's a few songs. I had FaceTimed Ben quickly to tell him something
Starting point is 00:08:18 and we were talking, Mitch was there, Mitch was saying hello. And then Mitch has said 20 seconds till air. So I had been like, I've got to go. We're about to go on air. And I often sign off a conversation like this. And I think you will know, Laura, Keisha will know, anyone in my life will know that I do this. And I was very rushed. So I was like, okay, okay, I've got 20 seconds to air. I've got to go. Bye bye. I love you. Love you. Bye. And hung up the phone. Yeah, fine. It an accident and then I looked at Mitch and I was and I had a moment I was like I just said I love you I said but I said it so quickly and throw away he wouldn't have even noticed then he messaged me straight away and he said did you just say you love me and I said no I was like what he said
Starting point is 00:08:57 yeah you just said you love me and I said no I didn't and he said yeah you definitely did like you you said kkk gotta go love you bye and I was like you're imagining that but I knew I said it So I was gaslighting him. I gaslighted him. And then I did it intentionally, yeah, because I was like. Healthy start. I panicked. Now the thing is this is all caught on film because radio is always filmed.
Starting point is 00:09:21 So I went and got the film, the footage, and I've got it. I've got the audio. I've got the visual of me saying it to Mitch. I've got the whole thing. I want to play the moment for you, Laura, and you tell me what you think, if you think this is a throwaway or if he thinks this is a love declaration, okay? I've got 20 seconds. Bye.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Love you both. I think I just said love you, bye. That's fine. That's cute. No, it's not. You sound like some sort of bird doing a mating call. That is so accurate. Why didn't I use that as my excuse?
Starting point is 00:09:52 I was doing a mating call. If that is what Ben classifies as the first time of saying I love you, he's wrong. It is so obviously a mistake or just like you would say that to a friend. I love you. I love you. I love you, bye. One more time.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Hang on. One more time. No, no. Listen really carefully. i think i just said love you bye that's fine that's cute no it's not i heard they love you but that doesn't count no okay so you don't think it counts i don't think that counts okay great because i said i don't think it counts either so now two weeks later he told me he loved me but the guy's an overachiever he speaks four languages he said it in a different language
Starting point is 00:10:29 not knowing that i knew what it was but i knew what he said and then i called him out and i said did you just say you love it in another language? And he was like, no. And I said, well, you did because I know that language. And he said, oh, okay, I did, but it doesn't count because it's in another language. So we have both said we love each other, but we both think it doesn't count. I think it doesn't count because mine was a throwaway love you bye. And he thinks it doesn't count because he said it in a different language and it should only matter if it's in English. That is problematic. There's a whole other issue there that we should unpack. So who's, it's this conundrum.
Starting point is 00:11:03 No, Ben's wrong. He said it with intention, whether it was in another language or not. All other languages count. Saying it as a throwaway comment where your mouth was making and saying words that your brain wasn't thinking does not count. The amount of people I've told said that I love you too, that I didn't mean it just because it came out. Oh, sorry. It doesn't count. Okay. So I win. Yeah, you win. Sorry, Ben. Okay, great. I'm glad that we've gotten to the bottom of that. I had to get to the bottom of it. It's been an ongoing argument. I'm going to have to send him this segment now so he can hear your opinion. Yeah. I mean, I'll always have you back brick. All right. Well, since that today is Valentine's day and we're talking about love
Starting point is 00:11:41 and all things dating and relationships and whatnot, there was a moment me article and it was written by a relationship expert. And she basically said that if you are somebody who doesn't celebrate Valentine's day, like if you are, you know, just like, yeah, me, like a negative cranky old cow who doesn't celebrate Valentine's day, that it is a mark of having an unhealthy relationship where you don't prioritize the relationship and something that she said that it was a common thread in all of her 5 000 relationships that have you know that she was the counselor for and those relationships that didn't work out was that the people who didn't celebrate valentine's day or who just saw it as like a complete non-event that that was
Starting point is 00:12:21 actually a sign of like some sort of problems in the relationship no i think cheating is a problem in a relationship I think uh leaving the toilet seat up might be a problem in a relationship but I don't think not celebrating Valentine's Day is why relationships are failing no I feel like maybe it's the byproduct of all the other things it's kind of like yeah if you're cheating you probably don't care about Valentine's Day at the same time if you're not happy in your relationship you don't care about Valentine's Day these are running parallel they're like running side by side with each other but I think it's very like you can be in such a happy healthy relationship where you prioritize each other and also not care about Valentine's Day for all of the reasons that we
Starting point is 00:12:59 kind of said earlier. However, I also think that there's a whole other set of people, right? People who celebrate Valentine's Day, but just not very well because it is a bit of a throwaway, right? Like they're expected to do it, but they're not actually putting in any effort. We decided to do a bit of a call out to find out from you, not the people who don't celebrate Valentine's Day or didn't get anything for it, but what were the worst Valentine's Day gifts that you have ever received. And they're so funny. And let me tell you, I would prefer nothing than 99.9% of these gifts.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I'm going to start. Kick it off. Driving lessons. But I had my full license for 10 years. They're saying she's a terrible driver. It doesn't make sense. No, it does. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Do you think he went out and bought them or she went out and bought them because they were saying like you are a bad driver so you need this to be better? It is the most offensive. It is the most subliminal message that you're a bad driver without it being subliminal. Like it's, I think he thought it was subliminal, but it wasn't. It was like, you're a terrible driver. You've had your license for 10 years, but I bought you driving lessons.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I would never go to those driving lessons. Okay. Rosa's chocolates that were 100% from his mum's pantry. They were also expired. The expiry date's a giveaway. There's also nothing worse than like a re-gifted gift. And you know, yeah, I've done that before. You know the chocolates when they're off and they start to go white on the top.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Have they been kept in the fridge for too long? Yeah, okay. A lint roller. Bad. An electric drill. Also bad. Remote roller garage doors. They got given doors.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Handy. They are expensive. Yes, very expensive, like $4,000 for, yes, I understand. Expensive, practical. You probably, I'm assuming if you got roller doors, you had a garage and you needed the roller doors. Although, is there really a present for one person? It's like when you say, hey, I'm buying you a new couch and it's like, no, you're buying us a couch.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Well, no, I'll take a fucking holiday to Fiji. But like buying a couch is a present for both of us. Yes. That's a necessity for the house. Yeah. We've had people talk about this before and it's such an interesting discussion. When you know the household needs a product, so it might be the lounge or it might be a new coffee machine or whatever it is, a dishwasher.
Starting point is 00:15:15 and then one partner buys it for the other for a present. It's not a present. Is that being cheeky? Yes. Because you were going to buy it anyway out of the household money. It's nothing special for you. Well, I think it comes back to the whole idea it's the thought that counts. That's not a thought.
Starting point is 00:15:29 It didn't count. You needed it. It was a necessity. So I'm on the fence with the garage door. All right, speaking of a thought that counts, a shoulder brace for my posture. Okay, hang on a minute. As somebody that just bought a back brace, so I've been wearing one.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I don't know if you knew that. Yeah, I do. You talk about it all the time. But I haven't been wearing it. I haven't been wearing it in a while, right? Because I've got that. I can tell. Yeah, thanks.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I got bad posture and I get really bad neck pain. So I was like, I'm going to buy this back brace. They can be really expensive. So I would be on the fence with that too. I'd be like, cute, if I had been talking about it. But if I hadn't been talking about it and someone just goes, here's a back brace. It's very offensive.
Starting point is 00:16:07 What the fuck? Very offensive. It's very offensive. Okay. A guy I had been seeing for not very long gave me lingerie that was clearly used before me. Like the panties were dirty? But how did you know it was used is my point.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Sometimes your discharge kind of changes the colour of the underwear. It stains a bit. Yeah, it like bleaches it. Has anyone else had that? Just me. What is in your discharge? Laura cleans the shower with her discharge. She's like, it's like bleach.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Really dark underwear can get bleached from discharge. I'm not crazy. No, that can happen. Thank you. Okay, so you said that. Very acidic down there. Stay away. I'll burn it off.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Okay. An opened game of Guitar Hero. I did not own a PlayStation, but he did. But it was already opened. So he'd bought it for himself. He just bought a game for himself and then he goes, I'll give it to her and she'll give it back. Better than a pack of condoms.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Just a packet. But he should have bought anyway. Yeah. He bought me a pair because he said we were the perfect pair. It's so lame. It's beautiful. I'd probably, that's my favourite. I like it.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Yeah. See, I would froth that. Do you eat the pear or do you keep it forever? Oh, hang on. Was it just a real fruit? Yeah. Oh, I thought it was a pair of socks. What? Oh, I just misheard what you said. I thought she got given a pair of socks. Like it's a pear and then it had pears on them. And then I was like, that's pear-ception and it's cute. And that would be my favorite gift. She got given a piece of fruit. Okay. No, he just walked past the fruitologist and he was like, I'll do this. Okay. It's cute, But this one probably takes the cake. An empty ring box at dinner with a note that said, ha-ha.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Could you imagine? Oh, it's way worse than not being given anything. I don't know if you'd laugh in disbelief or if you'd be ropeable and, like, I'll show you ha-ha and you ha-ha out of it. If you were expecting a proposal, like if you were actually at the point that if you're at the point of your relationship where you're expecting your partner to propose to you and they give you a box saying ha-ha,
Starting point is 00:18:19 can you imagine how fucking mad you would be? I'm just trying to put myself in that position. I think I would just laugh in disbelief. I think you'd also probably end up breaking up. That better come tomorrow, buddy. Okay, this one as well. I don't know if I feel bad about this. I think that this is okay.
Starting point is 00:18:35 He gave me his dick with a bowl on it. No. I'm fine with that. I just thought of a story. Should I tell you? Yes. Many moons ago in the hospital when I worked in, if you're new to the podcast, I used to work in emergency as a radiographer.
Starting point is 00:18:52 I did it for 10 years. And I had this patient one day, it was a man that did this right, dressed up his penis for his girlfriend, but he went to the next level. He was like, flowers are too expensive to buy a dozen. I'm going to improvise. So what he did was he went and got a flower from the garden. Now I'm going to tell you, every person in Australia that's listening to this knows this flower. It's the really long, skinny, it's actually a weed. It's a long, skinny green stem. And then at the top it has that little yellow, like a daisy. Yeah. But the weed version, it's got like
Starting point is 00:19:28 a wet the bed. I think people used to call them as kids. Yes. He got one of those. So she was coming over he was getting ready for her so he got a heart on and then he threaded the stem up his urethra so it went all the way up everything hurts and then the weed was flush at the end of his penis so hard penis with the flower head at the end that was his surprise when she tried to take it out to do the sex it snapped off the stem stuck and the whole stem stuck up his penis and And that's why he came to hospital because he was like, I can't get the flower stem out of my dick. Oh.
Starting point is 00:20:05 So people, don't dress up your penis. Put a bow on it. Don't stick a flower in the hole. It's not a vase. The bow can't go near the head. The bow has to stay at the base. That was it. I shooketh.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I'm not okay from that story. I know. Okay, one more. He gave me a thumbs up reaction to my text saying happy Valentine's Day. I have one more. He gave me a pig hunting knife. Oh, yeah. I do not hunt pigs.
Starting point is 00:20:32 No. This is a fun – this is a real low finish on it. Valentine's Day is such a weird day. I mean, like for some couples it's lovely, let's celebrate love, but then we've got all the single people, we've got the people who've got shitty presents, and you know what? It's just a complicated, complex day that's all about capitalism. That's Laura's rant over, but go to Tony May, it's 15% off.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Until midnight tonight. Literally. Okay. Well, we know that Valentine's Day isn't great for everyone. Some people are alone on Valentine's Day, are not in love, and that is okay. We do Galentine's Day now. And if you're not doing Galentine's Day or Valentine's Day, just know that we don't even believe in the day anyway. So it's okay. People who are happily in relationships hate it as well. Exactly. But somebody that isn't having a good Valentine's Day or is not going to have a good Valentine's Day is Megan Fox. Maybe she is. How dare you say she's not going to have a good Valentine's Day?
Starting point is 00:21:28 Maybe she is free and having the time of her fucking life. Well, I think that's probably what is happening. If you guys are not up with what is happening in the world, this is like the biggest news of the last 24 hours. There's been bigger things that happened. The biggest thing to us. It's just like it's just everywhere right now. But apparently, allegedly, Machine Gun Kelly, MGK,
Starting point is 00:21:47 and Megan Fox have broken up. Every time I hear MGK, I think of MasterChef for some reason. What is the MasterChef acronym? MasterChef. my kitchen rules and I think of MKR my kitchen rules yeah literally every single time I'm like MKR it's the same it's where my brain goes they've apparently broken up and the reason we think that is because they have been dropping these well not they Megan's been dropping these breakup bread crumbs yeah it's the thing that everyone does it's the telltale signs that a relationship has
Starting point is 00:22:18 gone kaput it's when somebody you know they start to change the way that they interact on their social media. Now, there's been a few things that Megan has done. To kick it off, she unfollowed My Kitchen Rules. She unfollowed My Kitchen Rules. I mean, that's the biggest telltale sign of all. As soon as you unfollow your husband, people are going to be like, hey, is there trouble in paradise, sweetheart? They didn't get married, did they? Weren't they just still fiancés? Didn't they? I don't know. No, they're still fiancés. I wish I'd been following it as closely as what you have. So she unfollowed him, but she also deleted every photo of them together, even the proposal, which was a few years ago. So she wiped the photos and unfollowed. She was only
Starting point is 00:22:54 following three people. So it was easy to tell when she unfollowed her fiance. Yes. Timothy Chalamet, Harry Styles and Eminem. Isn't that a flex in itself though? Imagine if they're the only the three people that you're following. You're a celebrity and you're only following those three men. You're not even following your mom. You're just following those three hot men. Okay. So now you have to stick with us here because this is just like, I don't know if she's a genius because this is such a deep web of subliminal meanings in here. So the fact that she's following Eminem actually has a meaning in itself because Eminem and My Kitchen Rules are beefing. They're beefing and they've been beefing for quite a long time because Eminem released an album back in August
Starting point is 00:23:36 and it had a song that was dissing Machine Gun Kelly. So then Machine Gun Kelly released a song that was four minutes of dissing Eminem. So apparently I'm not up on the rap battles, but apparently there's been a rap battle of hate between Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly for a while. So the fact that Megan unfollowed My Kitchen Rules and then started dating, I mean started dating, started following Eminem is like a superpower move flex in itself. I love that you say maybe she's a genius. I don't know if she's a genius. I feel like she is a 20 year old who has been scorned except she's not 20. It just reminds me of like a Tumblr post. You know, anytime someone was going through a breakup back in the 2000s and you'd go onto their Tumblr and it would just be
Starting point is 00:24:16 this angsty fury of like breakup posts. That's what she's doing, but she's famous. I feel like you're pulling on some personal memories there. I didn't have a Tumblr, but I know what yours would look like. Well, guilty. Okay. But on that, there was also a post that she put up. So after she unfollows, um, I can't, why do I keep calling him MK? What's the, what's his real name? Machine Gun Kelly. Machine Gun Kelly. Okay. After she unfollows Machine Gun Kelly, she then puts up a photo and it's her she's smoking hot she's wearing like this like cut out tiny little she's so hot i don't even know what it is it's a it's a handkerchief it had some holes in it from a moth it's a bodysuit that has holes all through it so it's very sexy and the quote is like the caption
Starting point is 00:24:54 is you can taste the dishonesty it's all over your breath now this is a lyrics from beyonce's lemonade it's and also the reason why this is important is because beyonce's song was written about the infidelity of her husband at the time. So there's all these subliminal cues here. Told you, she's a genius. She's like an onion. There are so many layers to this and we're hooked. Also standing in front of a poster.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Now the poster's main headline, and that's what's very easily visible, it says, when you can't walk away. So the photo's taken in a public bathroom, it looks like. It's a selfie. And it says, when you can't walk away, there's just so many layers. this went on for two days and then she deleted her whole instagram so she's got her entire instagram account now because she realized that she was acting like a crazy person and everybody had figured out that she's separated from her partner and she was like oh maybe i need like
Starting point is 00:25:45 how did they figure it out so quickly i thought i left more clues i think i need to do a social media detox which is very good and i would suggest that anybody going through a breakup who finds themselves posting things that they think are subliminal just stop and just remove yourself from social media altogether. It's much healthier. She hasn't come out and actually made a statement, right? We've just gone crazy over the breadcrumbing of the breakup. But there is one big question lingering, hanging over this. And that is, is this a breakup? If it is, I'm sorry that they're going through that. Or is it a really, really great elaborate PR stunt? Because sometimes brands, Hollywood stars, singers, sometimes they do this where they draw attention to something,
Starting point is 00:26:28 they delete their Instagrams when they want to come back with an announcement, when there's a movie or an album or something big is happening. I hope that they're all happy and that's what's happening, but it's food for thought. And I don't think we're going to know. I think we're going to see Megan come back to Instagram very, very soon. Is there a reason why they would want to be drawing publicity to themselves? Personally, I'm not in their inner circle, but I have heard that there is a movie coming, that she's in a movie. Okay. Or an album launch. Maybe they've both got stuff going on. They're in it together. Maybe it is a ploy, but I think that that would backfire because if I was a really big fan as a couple, I would be pissed at this. I would be pissed if it
Starting point is 00:27:05 was just a stunt, a PR stunt, and I was a super fan. I wouldn't like it. When they released their launch, I'd be like, well, we've all been heartbreaking for you. We've come along this ride for you. So for me, I think that that would backfire, but I don't know. I don't know what their fans are like. Is this a PR stunt or is this the hallmark signs of someone who's going through a breakup who thinks that they're being subliminal in what they're posting but actually it's not subliminal at all it's incredibly overt and every single person is talking about it do you think now not that would ever happen because you're not ever going to break up with we didn't celebrate valentine's day so who knows he might be hit on the chopping block
Starting point is 00:27:39 do you think now if you break up would you do like an announcement what would your breakup be or would you just put a picture up of a fire and burn his clothes or like what do you or do you think i mean You almost have to make a statement, right? Because when you're in the public eye, I guess you can't just turn up one day down the track with someone else. Or would you post your deep quote because you love a quote? I do. I fucking love a quote.
Starting point is 00:28:02 No, but the thing is, is when I used to post quotes, so when I would be going through a breakup and I would post an Insta quote, it was never about the break. It wasn't about me being sad. It was always, so I would post it thinking like that I was being, you know, really creative and it was just like I was just getting my information. yeah totally I was just trying to like communicate how I was feeling but it wasn't at all I was like very much pointedly posting that quote hoping that that other person who of course they were
Starting point is 00:28:30 going to look at my Instagram would read it it was a very personal message posted on a very public platform yeah it was always pointed at my ex it was never because I just like started to read who's that guy that everybody follows when they're going through a breakup oh the poet yeah fuck what's his name there's two there's young Pablo and there's Bo Toplin there's only two breakup people that you go to when you Bo Toplin and I probably butchered that name whatever his name is I would screenshot every breakup thing and that would be that would be my insta content for the two months of mourning that relationship I was such cliches and we think that we're we think we're clever we think we're smart we think we're doing it differently super
Starting point is 00:29:09 arty super in touch with our feelings I hard launched my breakup like I hard launched my relationship so I waited about three months because I was devastated and didn't get out of bed and then I went to Thailand made my sister take like a bikini photo and it was pretty much just my I did I was like I need to I need to get back out there I was like take a take a hot photo it was a beautiful backdrop and the sun was shining in the sand it was glistening basically it was a photo of me walking away right so I didn't yeah but also no I'm walking away I didn't mean the the walking away wasn't a message until someone commented and said, Oh, I get the walking away thing. And I was like, damn it. I didn't think of that. I was walking away. It was from behind. So
Starting point is 00:29:48 it was like my butt. And my caption was, tell me you're single without telling me you're single. Cause it was just a third. I was like, I'm just going to own the fact that this is thirsty as all thirsty. Like this is drought thirsty. And it'd been three months. And I was like, let's just call a spade a spade. It's also my way of saying my relationships ended, but I don't want to talk about it right now. So I just, I just simple, efficient, hard launched it. And then everyone started to get into these deep meanings about like Craig David walking. And I was like, no, guys, it's just a picture.
Starting point is 00:30:13 It's just my ass. What I would like to say is I think we should all take a minute for the person who's on the other end of that camera, for your sister being forced into taking an ass photo of you, for the poor people who are having to capture this content for us when we think that we're being pointed. And like Keisha's sitting in the corner like, that is me. You asked what Matt and I would have to do if we broke up.
Starting point is 00:30:33 I mean, obviously this is weird that we've been here. Obviously you don't have a breakup plan. Yeah. I think it's different when you have kids, even if you're in the public eye, even if things go absolutely fucking to hell in a handbasket, I think you have to approach it in a very different way because the internet never forgets. It will be there forever. And I don't want my kids to look back. And I think that's how most people- At your ass? Yeah, at my ass, at a photo that my sister took.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Okay. Well, I feel attacked because that's what my kids are going to see one day. Okay. All right. Let's get into the chat with Rebel. well i'm very happy to introduce today's guest it's a guest we've had before it's a very good friend of mine and it's a guest that you guys have requested to come back on the podcast for 12 months rebel wilson welcome back to life uncut oh yes hello hi ladies it's our one year anniversary yeah god has it been a year yeah it's been a year and you came to my sydney house which is now sold that house gone i know it's such a shame you sold that because i just really wanted to come back it was a it was a really nice house now i have to like call in from los angeles uh well we spent
Starting point is 00:31:41 new year's there last year and it was if i knew that it was the last time we'd be there i probably would have really embraced it we watched the fireworks we would have punched some holes in the walls you know just a bit of a demolition party but rebel there has been so much that has happened in your life in the past year i feel like every couple of months there's been some other big, massive news that's kind of like unfolded in the life of Rebel Wilson. God, well, it's not deliberate. I guess it just happened like that. Oh, you haven't scheduled it out? I'm like, can people start talking about my movies? And I was like, okay, maybe next year.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Well, we have a few very exciting things to talk about that you do have coming out. But one of my favorite parts of last year's conversation that we had was that you shared possibly the most wild and messed up, accidentally unfiltered that we have ever had on the podcast. Oh, really? it was so what are you kidding if just a quick recap rebel had to take a dump in the daylight in la like on the hike on someone's front lawn by the way i think my mom heard that and she was like why are you saying those things to britney like did i get in trouble from your mom yeah i well i think i was mainly in trouble but she scares me she's like my friend told me you said
Starting point is 00:32:51 that on the radio or whatever and I'm like ma it's just shut up it's just podcasts no one's listening to this it's just you and us in a bedroom having a chat I know well that's what it always feels like chatting to you girls well do you have one this year do you have anything that's happened this year oh my god I mean I do have embarrassing stuff maybe I should just tell you this new embarrassing story because it's I mean it's pretty embarrassing so I'll just say it and get it over with I don't know whether you guys have ever used hair removal cream yes in the vagina area yeah well like I'd used it before and I thought oh like this isn't great the feeling you get afterwards but then for some reason I was like I've been meaning to get laser
Starting point is 00:33:35 hair removal in that region and then I never have time I was like rummaging under the sink for some products and I saw this hair removal cream I was like oh yeah I'll just give that a go and then I put it on maybe for a few two minutes too long or something and it just really all went red there was nothing I could do and then I think I got some kind of yeast infection or something and then Ramona's like she's making out with me and I like babe I can't I can't do I'm out of action I gave myself a chemical peel yeah I had to tell her and she's like let me have a look at it I go no not have you look at it look away and I was like no babe it's bad it's bad I'm walking around like uncomfortable for like a week after it and then I said to I said to a babe
Starting point is 00:34:24 I'm throwing out any hair removal cream products I have and because I don't want to make the same I don't want to forget what happened and then a year later make the same mistake so we then we threw out all the hair removal so now all natural you're all natural well I hopefully I can have time to schedule my laser a wax but I'm just like I'm so busy well and now being a mother I'm like when when the hell am I gonna have half a day to go and do that not just a mom though being a working mom but you know the thing that it's Valentine's Day today and the thing that we covered so much when we last spoke was we spoke about your relationships we spoke about what love and dating had been like for you and since we spoke in January last year you are now in a
Starting point is 00:35:06 beautiful relationship but I think it came as a surprise to so many people who maybe feel like they've been invested in your love stories over the years that you're now in a same-sex relationship with Ramona and we spoke about it on the podcast when that all unfolded and how you had been pressured into like unveiling your relationship before you were even ready to. Can you tell us a little bit about how you guys met and what that period of your life was like? Well we met my mutual friend Hugh Sheridan he'd known Ramona for years and me for years and I was always telling him like I went to New York with Hugh and we're like saying ah all these dudes like they're either not romantic or something you know I feel like they could be cheating or there was always some
Starting point is 00:35:48 issue and then he just was like you should meet Ramona and I was like oh who and then he's like yeah I'll set you up but then he waited weirdly for two months and then like text introduced us and it could have just been a friendship thing like at first but then we just we started texting and then voice texting the old voice text and sending a little monologue yeah that's what I feel like when I do a voice text like a little monologue but you do love a voice text as well yeah I do love a voice text no it's only just me in the car doing the voice text to people and then I was like wow I feel like a real connection with this person like a deep kind of really awesome connection and I was in Australia at the time and I was like I've got to fly to LA
Starting point is 00:36:32 to meet her to see if this is real because I'd made the mistake before of texting someone for ages and then it didn't work out I didn't go anywhere and so I was like okay I'm gonna fly to LA I'm gonna meet her no pressure I was like oh my god what if I met her in it but we just had such a good connection over the phone that I was like okay and then then we did and we went out and And it just blossomed from there. But I had to come all the way back to get my American residency stuff, green card and stuff. And it just kind of blossomed.
Starting point is 00:37:02 And I think that was like the time we had New Year's Eve and stuff. And then I was talking to her on the phone. I think you heard me like, yeah. I remember, I remember being in the room and you're like, you told me about this person you were seeing, like this woman. And you were all smitten like a teenager. It was very cute. And then the fireworks went off and then you were on the phone and then you hung up and
Starting point is 00:37:22 you turned to us and you said I think I've got a girlfriend and I was like whoa yeah you were just as shocked as everyone and I was like what do you mean you think like and you were like well I think we're just went official but I can't be sure and I'm too nervous to to confirm it like you didn't want to you were like I'm just gonna play it cool like I know what's going on and then that was it you were sort of just signed sealed and delivered from that moment and then remember there was that real drunk girl in the park that we had to say we had to rescue her yeah we rescued someone i've never told you that basically rebel and i i mean yeah i guess we're heroes right you saved her life it was i've always thought that about the two of you do you know
Starting point is 00:38:01 what's crazy she has no idea that rebel wilson saved her life like she would because she was so drunk it was really bad she was going to fall over into the ocean yeah she was trying to like jump into the rocky ocean yeah so we were heroes that day we were and then remember she like left her purse there and whatever and then as good karma when we were walking down the street back to my house I found $20 on the ground yep and she didn't even split it with me I saved the girl too and she didn't even give me $10 rebel she had an elevator in the house she didn't give me 10 bucks oh she needed that 20 rebel at this period when you met Ramona and when your friend Hugh set you guys up yeah did you know like were you I mean it's a hard question to ask because I don't even
Starting point is 00:38:44 know if there's a clear answer to it, but like, did you know at the time that you had an attraction to women or were you kind of like, why are you trying to set me up with Ramona? Yeah, that's a good question. Like I knew, I knew I wasn't a hundred percent straight, but I don't know, I guess going to like, I went to Christian all girls high school and from quite a conservative family. So I think if I was, you know, 20 years younger, it wouldn't have been an issue to like explore that part of my sexuality but I just guess I never quite went there and then I did a movie that's I think it's out now in Australia on Paramount it's called The Almond and the Seahorse and I had to kiss a woman in that Charlotte Gainsbourg this French actress and then I was like
Starting point is 00:39:27 no it's not that big of a deal like just a kiss and then that kind of made me feel more open to exploring it but like yeah it was like I never thought I was 100% straight and when I talked to my good friends you know they all knew that part of me but it wasn't like I wasn't actively exploring it I was dating guys and you know but then always like being like oh I wish they were a bit more like this or it just didn't quite click in a way I never met a guy that I wanted to live with or you know was in a deep enough relationship with and then it just happened that I mean I joked on Instagram that I thought I was looking for a Disney prince but then maybe what I needed was a Disney princess and it kind of it just clicked with Ramona and yeah and I feel lucky
Starting point is 00:40:13 to have found it I kind of I do wish maybe I had explored it earlier but I was I feel like I'm a late blue moan many respects but whatever I've been busy whatever works yeah do you think though any part of kind of maybe not just the exploring it but also the the talking about it openly do you think that being the fact that you are such a public figure that your life is under such scrutiny that there was even more reservations about I guess like coming out and saying like this is where my relationship is at oh it was interesting like because my connection was so great with Ramona it wasn't something I hid like all my my friends knew about it and we went to like the Vanity Fair Oscars party together and like so it was pretty obvious but I just didn't
Starting point is 00:40:52 think in 2022 that I had to come out or anything totally it was almost like in plain sight as well Yeah. And I don't know, like we coming out, but like, I don't, I still, I know I'm in a, like an awesome same sex relationship, but then you're like, I still don't quite know how to classify myself for my sexuality. I think it can be complex and I, you know, it doesn't mean I was straight and now I'm suddenly gay or like, I'm, I don't know. I'm just, just me and, and seeing how it goes. what you said is it's so true like there shouldn't have to be this moment where you're like look this is who I am I'm gay I'm bi I'm whatever it is that you want to say you are but I remember when
Starting point is 00:41:37 you started to when you went to the vanity fair and because I knew made me really happy to see you posting so much and I thought oh she's just she's really just proud of a relationship she's in and it's not going to be this big announcement and I just assumed people would pick up on it but it turns out no one did they obviously just thought you had this this really good friend which you did like it was like going on dates with and but what was it like when um obviously you had to go and make this statement that you found your Disney princess did that put an extra level of pressure on your relationship with Ramona or was it like do you know what like we know we're in love yeah I wanted to tell people organically and uh and obviously wasn't hiding it but was like
Starting point is 00:42:14 you know so proud to be dating Ramona and she's such an awesome chick but like with family like so for example my grandparents didn't know and then we get that email from the Sydney Morning Herald journalist and and I'm like well obviously it's my news to tell so I'm gonna tell the news but it was rushed and my mum had to drive in the middle of the night to my grandparents to tell them because my grandma like she loves using her phone now now that she's been taught how to use a smartphone. Oh she probably has like google alerts on you. Yeah she does so like I don't want her hearing about this on the phone so mum had to go there and have a chat with them and like but luckily they were like so amazing and like my whole family's just been amazing Ramona's family
Starting point is 00:42:57 like hasn't been as accepting and so in many respects it's been a lot harder on her to have to make the news public you know they're very official like that like how we had to and so yeah it's been probably the most hard but with me like it was a couple of hurried conversations that I would have liked to have just taken my time with so that was a bit difficult but I don't know at the at the end of the day I was probably gonna you know in a few months time make it Instagram official as they say or whatever you know how did you feel when you received that email though I mean I know so many people who watch even even we did like we were so angry for you but what was that like oh I mean yeah we're furious I mean you remember that I feel like all of Australia was
Starting point is 00:43:38 furious when that came out well especially that guy had written nasty things before like oh god only knows what he was going to write but when I read it I mean it's kind of carefully worded but it was definitely a threat and I was just like oh god you know and then I'm just like well I'm just going to take matters into my own hands and release the news how I wanted to and not have have a journalist do it so it was just like I don't know it felt so grubby like and you wouldn't think didn't like Perez Hilton get busted for doing that kind of thing but years ago like seven years ago or something you do think in 2022 that those days are gone but I actually didn't know I don't think I knew until now actually that Ramona wasn't out to her family and people in her
Starting point is 00:44:23 life either so yeah I think that's something that I thought that she was already you know really comfortable and out and loud with I always just thought it was you that was being outed but it was the both of you yeah and and like with her she's not in the public eye and so it was much harder on her and I just I don't know as her partner I just feel so sad to see what happened with her family over it but I'm just like hopefully people will change and you know change their attitudes about things but I don't know from my perspective there was just so much positivity that it was so awesome to see because I don't know whether it would have been like that 20 years ago might not have and that's why a lot of people it didn't come out and so now I think it's just such
Starting point is 00:45:04 a positive thing that everyone's pretty cool with it oh my grandparents like oh yeah cool your nan uses a phone so she's always gonna be on board your nan's like I always knew but I think like I mean you said it it's this huge invasion of private like a gross invasion of privacy but also for someone like Ramona who isn't in the public eye in any way to the capacity that you are it's this added pressure that her personal life is also completely put on display for speculation and controversy, but I do think you're so right that we have come so far. Whereas 20 years ago, it would have been a scandal. It would have been like, can you believe Reba Wilson is in a same-sex relationship? Whereas literally, oh my God. Yeah. My mom's
Starting point is 00:45:48 going to love this episode, Brittany. Geez. I'm never coming over again. Yeah. You're getting an unfollow from Rebs' mom. The response was so widely just like, why is this a big deal? And why are you pressuring somebody into having these conversations before they're ready to? And it was really empowering to see you be able to take back your own story in such a phenomenal way throughout social media. And I think that that is a platform, like social media as a platform gives you the ability to be able to tell your own story as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:15 And that's the one thing I love about like Instagram, especially I can just get a message out there and just, you know, in my own words and, and just communicate directly with people. and that was the positive thing about it but I'm just like oh but obviously I've had instances with the Australian press being really uh mean towards me so to me it was just like oh my god is it just another thing in that line of nasty things that they've done over the years but I don't know so I'm a bit used to it the Australian press in relation to women in media in general there are huge problems with everyone knows that we've spoken about that before but yeah so I mean I think what you did was amazing and you took it into your own hands and we applaud that but another
Starting point is 00:46:54 thing that I think took the world by surprise was first of all you came out in this beautiful relate same-sex relationship and then if that wasn't enough you were like oh also got a baby yeah oh yeah by the way I've been cooking this one did you see Paris Hilton just did that yes yeah by the way just got a baby as well yeah but congratulations you're a mum oh thank you yeah your life's completely changed in the last 12 months I know who would have thought that like when we were hanging out on New Year's Eve that by like the next New Year's Eve I'd have like a baby and an amazing partner like I just I did I really didn't think pieces were going to fall in line for me at that point at that time when we were hanging out on New Year's Eve like a year ago
Starting point is 00:47:39 I tried with one surrogate to have the baby and sadly the embryo miscarried which is really like you get so excited when it takes and I mean luckily I didn't make it public because that would have been even worse when you have to then say it didn't didn't work out and um it was really sad like I was I was mourning that at the time but then to have a second embryo only had two and to have a have it implanted and then to that go well it was like it was amazing and I didn't sure and I really do think it is a bit of a miracle that it happened I've been through quite a bit on the fertility journey for a few years but I was like wow now I look at it and I like now I've got a family an instant family kind of thing and it's so surreal but it's so awesome and
Starting point is 00:48:24 little Rosie is amazing she's such a little angel I can't wait to bring her to Australia I cannot wait to meet her she looks like the most divine little nugget she's so cute she's so cute and she's smile that's her newest trick smiling and and she makes noises I really think she's going to be a singer or something and I played her the pitch perfect I was playing at a pitch perfect soundtrack and she loves it she's a bella so she could be the bella in like 20 years yeah she are she'll be i already making jokes i'm gonna put her on some nickelodeon show here and make her work because she's so cute would you encourage her into what you've done the crew you've done into entertainment oh i don't know i don't know because i watch
Starting point is 00:49:07 other celebrities with their children here and you know and i'm deliberately keeping her off social media and trying to be a protective mother over her and I didn't start acting till I was 19 properly professionally and so I don't know because you see all the kids that's why I'm joking about the Nickelodeon thing because those kids do a lot of them end up really messed up yeah I mean they when they get a lot of fame and success early yeah so I don't know I don't know although I kind of wish I'd had a stage mother who pushed me I didn't my parents didn't care Oh, I do too. I always think that.
Starting point is 00:49:40 I was like, I had so much potential as a child. You guys wouldn't be as normal as you are if that had happened. Like my mum, why did she never drive me to auditions? Totally. Like I would have loved it. I was doing Taekwondo. Oh, yeah. Like a normal kid.
Starting point is 00:49:53 What's that going to give me? Yeah. Revel, is motherhood, has it been what you expected? Did you come into this journey with expectations around like what being a mum was going to be for you? And has it met those expectations, exceeded them? Talk me through that. it's so hard like I think maybe you're a little bit disconnected having the surrogate and not going through the pregnancy but that was my best options medically when I only had the one embryo
Starting point is 00:50:19 left like I was like okay I'm gonna go with what they say is the highest percentage rate of success but motherhood like it's so hard I mean god I have so much respect for all the mums out there because I have I do have professional help like I have a nanny and then I have this amazing partner Ramona who's just such a natural at like like way better than me at like changing diapers and stuff or nappies I should say and it's just so hard like it's so hard because and then I was crying the other day because I was like am I never gonna have a night just by myself to watch tv ever again I can never just run out of the house anymore it is a whole coordination and communication that has to happen and I just have I have so much respect you know for my own mother for all the mums out
Starting point is 00:51:03 there because oh my god like it's so hard and I'm like very privileged and have a great life and help and I'm just like oh my god it's it's crazy it's crazy difficult I just you know was minding her all day yesterday and was just like oh like how do you you're like I'm exhausted once you once I've played in a pitch perfect soundtrack like what do I do now you're onto it don't worry soon it will be wiggles and cocoa melon that's what we're in the trenches of that at the moment, but Rebel, you experienced it. There is so much mom criticism, especially when you're in the public eye about how you, how you parent. Oh yeah. I think it was only a week until I got mom shamed. I mean, maybe it's a fortunate thing that like when you don't have to carry the
Starting point is 00:51:44 baby, you don't have the physical aftermath of childbirth. You're not having to physically recover, which is a big reason as to why a lot of women don't leave the house for X amount of time afterwards and we spoke about on the podcast there was this like mum shaming that happened when you and Ramona went to for a period of time to was it Leonardo DiCaprio's yeah birthday party yeah Leo and Paris Hilton's the same night yeah we did both we like hit it up hard because that was our one night out but that's the thing right like when you know full well like my baby is taking care of my baby is asleep they are fed they are being cared for they are in a safe and loving environment how do you process other people's judgment on how you're parenting when
Starting point is 00:52:30 you know that you're doing a good fucking job I mean our baby was like one week old and then the nanny's like go and I'm like no no no I don't I don't want to I don't feel like going out but she's like the baby goes to sleep at about seven o'clock every night so she's like the baby is asleep like you're totally fine just go out but I was shocked at the criticism because like Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym or people aren't yelling where's your kids yeah totally like what are you doing where are your kids but why do they do it to every woman and like I mean sure going to those birthday parties is fun but it's a little bit work in a way like I'm talking to directors or talking to other actors that it might be useful to collaborate with and stuff so it's kind of
Starting point is 00:53:12 it's a little bit of work and a little bit of fun and then we basically were home by midnight so it was all it was all good but you know what you absolutely hit the nail on the head and it's something that like as a mum on this podcast I talk about all the time and it makes me so infuriated that there's this like insane difference in the expectations between dads and mums and what dads are able to do and the leeway that we give dads especially in the newborn phase they can live life and mothers are expected to be like sacrificial to their children yeah and I definitely grew up with having the mother as kind of the martyr who sacrifices her own life for the children like I saw that a lot growing up but just because you become a mother like it doesn't mean like you
Starting point is 00:53:52 lose your identity as a person it doesn't mean you can't go out with friends or you can't go on a holiday or it doesn't mean you can't have a career is it hard to have like I'm finding it really hard to to do all my my work and have the baby and everything like it's hard but it doesn't mean you give up who you are as a person like it really shouldn't shouldn't mean that and I mean yeah and people will say well I'm in a privileged position which I am but I think it's so outdated that a woman you know and and why is it women shaming other women it always is yeah it always is but I think as a mom it sometimes comes from a lack of like we look at how we parent or you know for some mothers it is sacrificial and they still do maternity leave they leave their careers they
Starting point is 00:54:39 you know sometimes remove themselves from their friendship groups because they are spending so much one-on-one time and then the judgment comes from maybe there's a jealousy maybe there's a judgment in well you're doing it differently to how I do it and I just think we need to be also much more inclusive as to the fact that there's many ways of parenting and just because someone does it differently to the way you do it doesn't mean that the way they're doing it is bad. Yeah and maybe they just see me having fun and go oh screw her. Totally. She should be having fun she should be at home with her nipples out and you know chained to the sink but I think that's really outdated and I worked hard to get into a position where I had a really great household and
Starting point is 00:55:18 stable life to bring up the baby and so yeah but we don't go out that much though I think because we just want to stay home and and chill and we're so exhausted as well we're like oh okay every now and again uh we just went to Dubai with the baby and because there was a free Beyonce concert and we're like yeah why not I guess this is a question a lot of people would want to know is it happened very quickly when you announced your relationship and then you had a baby and like people can do the math you were obviously already on the process of becoming a mom before you met Ramona so what was that like for your relationship to have just met and been like p.s there's a baby coming well yeah I'd only been dating Ramona for like two months and I had
Starting point is 00:56:00 to be like by the way the surrogate is you know it looks like it's out of the first trimester and so it's serious and I'm gonna have a baby at the end of the year and I know that's something you didn't sign up for you didn't know about because I kept it I mean really only my mum and my sisters knew and I was like so if you want to leave me like I totally get it but she was like oh my god like I love you and I'm gonna love your baby just the same and I was like are you serious because you don't have to say that if it's not something you're into and she's just like been incredible and I I kind of wonder whether if I was with a guy whether they would have loved the baby in the same way not being their biological child I mean you never know it would depend on the person but
Starting point is 00:56:45 Ramona's just like been so amazing right from when I first told her she was like into it and she's so amazing with Rosie and so I feel very lucky and it was kind of all like it was it was like it all happened like I was before that I was like oh maybe I'll never find true love and all this stuff I remember that's how we bonded because we're both like so depresso we're both like I'm not gonna work for us when we're gonna fall in love like when are we gonna have this happy ever after when are we gonna have kids do we want kids like there was all this like talking about a traumatic past and then it just everything just fell into place for you in like what felt like 10 minutes yeah it was like yeah or last year it just yeah that you know girlfriend
Starting point is 00:57:24 bang baby and then and then we had our first Christmas as a little family and you're like oh it just felt so right but you can think for many years like oh god it'll never happen for me like that and then it then it suddenly happens look at us now Brit like happy you know in good place yeah and when you when you're looking for a sperm donor do you just go is it just like a menu at the restaurant like at the sperm shop yeah pictures and like yeah the sperm shop and like do you just on go down and be like like do they ever add pictures they don't do they it's always just like six foot brown hair no I have pictures and then you often have pictures of them as a baby and as an adult and also like all their genetic history and some have voice recordings as well
Starting point is 00:58:08 which is really interesting to hear how they answer certain questions uh it's really interesting you just sit there and listen and I had a like a sperm concierge I guess you call it so they troll through all the sperm shops and then give me like the 10 best that match my criteria I think it's very different in the states to how it's done here because there is a real anonymity here in terms of like when there's sperm donation that's made you have the medical history but I don't think that you get as much access to who the person is and also I think even the surrogacy experience in the states versus what is possible in Australia is very different as well yeah well isn't it illegal I feel like it's illegal no you can be a surrogate here but you cannot pay for a
Starting point is 00:58:49 surrogate here it has to be a gift which means not many people are really going to do it yeah it's a gift it's not an exchange of money here in America I mean it's so common in LA like you hear about it every second day and so I guess they've just got such a good legal system worked out and when you go to the hospital and the surrogate has her room and you have a separate room and it's like a normal thing but I don't know I hope I mean because the all the technology is so good nowadays and it's almost the way I did it I mean I knew my child wasn't going to have any genetic diseases I knew she was 100% healthy after seven days of embryos so there's kind of some really good medical things involved in doing IVF and and then with the surrogacy it was just
Starting point is 00:59:34 there's more higher chances of success but it's really I mean Australia's got very different laws to America on it in my situation I thought it was like win-win because my lovely surrogate makes money for her family it gives me an amazing gift and she was so lovely it was just such a honor to like and you kind of could say work with each other like because it is a is a job and she was just like incredible such a lovely person you know she's helping me and then I'm helping her and so it was kind of win-win I mean I don't know whether it's like that for everybody but just in my experience it was such a positive thing to do and me being older now I don't know if they would call it a geriatric pregnancy if I got pregnant so it was just it was just the best thing for me
Starting point is 01:00:19 to do and and it just worked out so well like it was such such a good thing and the surrogate came and holds the baby after she was born and and it was just so sweet and we have lots of photos together and stuff and obviously I keep her identity private for her sake really but of course yeah she's just such a lovely lovely woman and it was just a beautiful experience and the birth was beautiful and you know god if I was pregnant I don't think it'd be so beautiful I'd be probably screaming do you keep some relationship with the surrogate afterwards or is it you know more so the case of once you take your baby home that you you know it I hate to say transactions because that's not what it is but when you say yeah you move on with the different phases of your life
Starting point is 01:01:02 the different seasons I mean we just send updates you know and pictures and a couple videos and stuff yeah but hopefully we can do it in person because I wanted to meet her kids yeah at some point as well so hopefully we're doing in person but a lot of it is like she does the job and when the baby's born but I just wanted her to know that how good and healthy the baby was but it was just oh it was it was awesome but I think people do it differently depending totally some people might just take the baby from the hospital and then that'll be it and I mean I guess it's what works for everybody yeah I've got a friend actually a really good friend that donates her eggs she's Australian but she donates them in America because you can't do it I mean like she gets paid for it
Starting point is 01:01:39 but you can't do it here yeah I met an Australian girl who does that too she keeps a relationship with them but that's because they decided that they decided that she wants to get updates on her genes I guess so it's not it's not like they hang out and stuff but she gets photos they get updates she'll see them once a year or once every two years and that's just what works for them and I think it's it's different for everybody you are sort of well not sort of you are you're back working you're doing all sorts of projects you've got all sorts of stuff going on oh yes what are you working on at the moment I just finished a movie in Italy called Verona it's like kind of Romeo and Juliet but with songs like the greatest showman kind of pop songs in it so I just finished
Starting point is 01:02:21 that shooting nights in Italy which is like freezing cold at this time of year and doing that and then what the biggest thing right now what I should mention for Valentine's Day because it's all about love is I've created with some of my friends this amazing dating app so I'm launching that now and you guys are one of the first people I'm speaking to about it so I'm very very excited it's called Fluid and it basically was born out of my experience of I kind of do wish I'd maybe explored my sexuality earlier. And for whatever reason, I didn't like on dating apps where you have to tick a box and say, you know, on Raya, like you have to tick, are you interested in men or interested in women and things like that. I was reading this study that
Starting point is 01:03:02 came out in 2020 and it said 48% of Gen Z's consider themselves sexually fluid. And I was like, gosh, there's so many people. And because sexuality is more complex than saying, you know, with all the terms like pansexual and bisexual and there's so many different categories and I was like well what if there was a dating app where you don't have to categorize yourself and you don't have to categorize what you're interested in the algorithm just works it out by who you're vibing with who you're connecting with and will show you more of those people but you don't have to say I'm straight I'm gay because it's you're just there to find a match and you don't know who that is and the what the young people especially are like really vibing with that it's so crazy like when
Starting point is 01:03:46 I talk to them like my kids from my movie senior year they're all fluid and they're all just so open talk about everything it certainly wasn't like that when I was 20 years old and it's so it's so cool to see that and I just thought the other dating apps I think are a bit outdated then that you have to kind of tick a box and label yourself and I just thought like well it'd be super cool if I'd had something like that available to me I would have used it rather I mean Raya it was great I could found some fun people on there but like you know it was weird to tick a box saying oh am I interested in women at one point it was weird to do that because on Raya too and other dating apps are like that but you do tick that so you do have to say men or
Starting point is 01:04:28 women and then they're the only people that obviously shows you and did you correct me if I'm wrong but I know that you were on there dating men yeah but then did you change that to women and something came out didn't it yeah because but they the reason I did that weirdly is because Brittany Snow my fellow Bella was like oh I clicked the woman thing as well because I want to see the other girls who are out there that these guys are looking at the competition yeah so actually the reason why I did it was like not not really exploring I was like trying to see yeah who in my age category was on there and it was quite interesting to see I never like met up with a with a woman from that but then I think like some newspaper in Australia as well
Starting point is 01:05:16 printed that as a gossip thing I remember there being something there was something little and I was like oh god you know like what about privacy or so why creative fluid is it's just a very safe very inclusive space where you don't have to categorize yourself so there can't be any judgments because just because you're on there you could be 100% straight on there and so there's no judgments to it or anything it'll show you people and the app learns from who you match with and who you click on and like who you should be paired with and so it's kind of a kind of cool I'm really excited like it sounds amazing because you're so right in saying that the way that the current apps are structured it either forces people into talking about their sexuality before they're ready
Starting point is 01:05:59 if they're wanting to be curious yeah but it also so hugely puts people into buckets so it stops people from exploring whether they're curious or not or whether they have any attractions for fear of judgment I don't know I just thought god if that had existed five years earlier that would have been great for me. I don't know. It's just so cool that you just, you know, you'll match with people that you find attractive or you're interested in that have similar interests rather than on a sexuality thing. I mean, I've worked for Match or did a campaign for Hinge and stuff. They're great, but that you do need to tick a box and label yourself and label what you're interested in. But what if you were like me where you were like straight-ish? And apparently a lot
Starting point is 01:06:40 of women some people say up to 80 percent of women might have bisexual tendencies some studies say that it's a lot there you go and it's just really nice that it was very organic as well like all of this came just from your lived life experience too like you found love you've had a family and now you've got a new business venture all from figuring out who you are yeah because you weren't busy enough yeah I know oh my god like trust me like so many movies I'm coming back to Australia to direct a movie so I'd be down under for quite a long time and I'm just like I really didn't need to to do a dating app I just felt like oh it was such a good idea and there there isn't an app like that and so I just thought I I know I could have benefited from it personally a few years ago and
Starting point is 01:07:25 so it's so it's really cool to like be working with the team I did do like IP law and stuff at law school so it was one of my electives so it's kind of it's kind of been really cool to just do something totally different but yeah but the movies I could not be busier and oh my god so many things I'm producing and now directing when we spoke to you last you were moving into more dramatic roles I mean you've proven yourself time and time again as being brilliant within the comedy space but you were moving into doing more drama how has that been for you so yeah so I have the almond and the seahorse that just came out and that was actually Charlotte Gainsbourg is a French actress in that and she was the first woman I ever kissed and so like the drama stuff
Starting point is 01:08:07 has been really cool and in the Italy movie I just did Verona like I'm playing Lady Capulet which is a very serious Shakespearean role it's been really cool I think it's hard for some people you've got to keep showing them something different until they believe it because they they love me in the in the comedy movies and senior year just did Crushed It the cheerleading comedy which Britt got to come on on the set of that was good which was awesome yeah I tried to run in the background of one of the shots but they really get her out of here yeah I was doing cartwheels across the back and they were just like we can tell you're not a cheerleader yeah like get out but yeah so the drama stuff like it's cool I'm getting more offers but I'm still
Starting point is 01:08:47 doing like the big comedies as well and the Australian movie I'm directing like it's so cute but it's very funny it's a bit like a muriel's wedding or a strictly ballroom type movie and it's so funny but it's got such heart to it as well so i'm very excited to come back and and to work on that but in a different capacity as like the boss bitch director and now you're the boss bitch of a dating app so you can actually jump on there if you're interested guys at fluid dating app.com and that is where you can sign up now in a few weeks time you will be able to download that bad boy from the app store we're going to put all that in the show notes and I know it sounds cringe but I'm so happy to see how happy you are and that your life just
Starting point is 01:09:24 everything fell into place and you're killing it in every capacity it's almost like you want to say congratulations you feel like you've just nailed a job like you've nailed your life you've done every you've done very well I mean I've had so many sad years of my life it's great to like yeah be in a good place and you know and you guys know I had to do I did a lot of work on myself to get in a healthier spot and just like when you work hard and have evolved as a person like if you say if you have a car that's 42 years old and you do nothing to the car it's going to be a pretty shit car but me I've like upholstered my seats and changed the tires and done a few things filled up the gas yeah yeah yeah I don't know but thank you for saying that because it's great and I mean I
Starting point is 01:10:05 just I'm just obsessed with my new daughter she's just the the littlest cutest thing I'll have to text you some more pictures when we hang up yes please yeah because I'm obsessed with it I'm already like an annoying mum that goes I look at look at photos of my child we all do it don't worry I mean she does it about her dog so it's fine yeah I do it about Delilah yeah I mean we're so happy that so much has changed in such a short time I think like sometimes it can feel like nothing like it can feel like so many years pass and nothing changes at all and then in an instant things can fall into place and I think that that is so true for finding healthy and happy relationships and it's so amazing to see that from when we spoke to you in January last year
Starting point is 01:10:45 just where your life is at now it's amazing and congratulations on all of the wonderful things you have going on oh thank you girls and like I've certainly had those boring years trust me where you feel like yeah or nothing exciting happens but then I don't know I do think I'm a late bloomer in many respects and love and sexuality and stuff but it's just like it was maybe it was all supposed to happen like that and maybe i wasn't ready before or whatever who knows the universe all came together and it's awesome and now it's just about crushing other career goals and moving on to new challenges like directing and having a new you know dating app business and then trying to be a good mom whilst doing everything else it's oh god which is the
Starting point is 01:11:28 hardest job of all it's so good to talk to you guys and happy valentine's day to everybody i'm sending you so much love thank you so much for coming on give our love to little royce and ramona and we can't wait to see you in australia thanks brit thanks laura i love you guys well it is time for suck and sweet i am going to kick it off mine are not that great this week wait neither of them not even your sweet is great you're just they're both sorry they're both great but they're like no one cares no one yeah probably no one's gonna get my son i'm sure everyone's so happy they're listening to the end of the episode my suck is that i started to binge watching your tv series you the sociopath psycho one right we feel like you're always behind when it comes to series
Starting point is 01:12:14 you're always like there's a really good one no it just got dropped three days ago that's my suck oh yeah my suck is they have season three four what oh my god who's behind now lauren burn when did this happen right so i just finished season one oh but i'm the one that's behind season four is dropped but what they've done and i don't know if i like it or not i'm gonna say no because it's my suck but they've only dropped four episodes and it's so you watch them all and it's really good right and the clip hanger on the fourth episode to keep you hanging until the next four get dropped is great so i was in it episode four and then usually it rolls over and it says the rest of the season coming later and I was like why I probably wouldn't have watched it
Starting point is 01:12:57 because I like to just get in once a whole series is out I'm not one of these people that watches week by week and I'll have to wait till next week for the next episode I hate that so now I'm hooked they've done their job because I've put an alarm on I'm setting the timer down to when it's released which is next week that's my suck it's not next week I think it's the 9th of March so it's actually a few weeks so they've really done me dirty yeah I'm really sorry that you're going through that Thank you. My sweet, and you've got three seasons to catch up, so you're doing fine.
Starting point is 01:13:26 Yeah, I'm going to be able to watch. Actually, I don't have time to watch that much TV. Actually, it's really interesting. Because then I got upset about it, so I went and did some Googling. It's really interesting. If you guys have watched You, which it was the number one trending Netflix series, right? So I'm assuming most of you have watched it.
Starting point is 01:13:41 It's very sexual. The whole thing is he falls in love, he's obsessed, there's a lot of sex, cheating. He murders people. Murder as well. But my point for this comes, it's very sexual. there is no kissing at all or really anything sexual in this series because pan bagley the lead has decided that fidelity is really important to him in his relationship
Starting point is 01:14:03 with his wife now and he's even taking that into acting so he doesn't he went to them and said i can do the fourth season but i won't be kissing anyone can we work around that and production were actually he said they were amazing didn't even question it said yeah we can do that and you notice it there's this sexual tension between all his people and there's like up against each other and like looking into each other's eyes and unbuttoning their shirts but there's no kissing no nothing and that's because he wanted as an actor to stay faithful to his wife so i think that's pretty wild i actually fully respect this because i know we've spoken about it before because i think i would really struggle with watching my husband and i know that that's
Starting point is 01:14:41 their job i get it but i would really struggle with my husband i.e matt kissing other people on screen even though it's their job because you cannot deny that on many occasions people have fallen in love with their co-host like their co-stars i'm thinking angelina jolie brad pitt comes to mind and it's not that they went out intentionally expecting to develop feelings but feelings are not something you have control over like you they just sometimes develop and like why would you put your relationship in jeopardy if you're co-starring alongside someone who's super hot, who would normally be your type. All the things are there. Chemistry is not going to just stop because you're in a relationship. They've still filmed it in a way where you feel the
Starting point is 01:15:20 tension, but there were moments where in my head, I don't know if I was just horny, but I was like, grab her, kiss her, fuck her. I was like, Jesus Christ. Well, because, because you could tell that that's what this, no, but like you could tell that's what the scene needed. Brittany's in a long distance relationship, everybody. I'm actually having a similar, I need to have a similar conversation with Matt soon because he is getting so Matt did like acting forever ago he did the Christmas Ransom I don't know if anyone saw it but it was a very sweet little Christmas movie on Stan he is getting into acting and has been auditioning heaps for different roles mostly comedies but even with comedies sometimes there is that you know and it's something that we haven't
Starting point is 01:15:57 really spoken about but I do not want him to get a role or to be in a movie where he has to make out with his co-star I would feel really fucking weird about it and I think we need to have an actual conversation about it. So I'm filming a pilot TV series next month with Mitch Drury and it's a rom-com in that I have to kiss someone. How does Ben feel? Well, this has been in the works long before I met Ben. It's just part of what's happening. So I told Ben and I was like, oh, this is not going to go down well. He was pretty good about it. He was like, look, this is your life that you've done before me. Am I going to watch it? No. Am I going to let you do it without a problem he's like yes because I have to trust you but he's like I'm definitely not stoked about
Starting point is 01:16:42 it but I wouldn't be if he was acting I would let him do whatever he wanted right because I get that that's part of acting doesn't mean you're gonna love it you're gonna want to go and watch it on slow-mo but it's definitely something you have to have a conversation about because if Matt gets an amazing role and it's making out with a chick what are you gonna do well he can be like old mate from you and say sorry fidelity I don't think he's there yet well unfortunately yeah I don't know I think also for me and maybe I'm being selfish in saying it but because it was not something that was part of the really like we got married and then he's now wanting to get into acting it's like no the bench you changed the benchmark my expectations haven't changed
Starting point is 01:17:19 so like let's work around this but I'm not comfortable with it yeah and I just know because it will make it'll make me feel crazy I know that yeah so like that's the problem he can go and do it but then expect to have a crazy wife you don't have to have the conversation with him now just send him this suck and sweet you've just had the conversation here so glad that he listens to every episode he doesn't okay my sweet just I had an amazing weekend the sun was out went to the beach swam with Delilah it was just it was very wholesome and that was it it's a very easy cute sweet today okay well speaking of amazing weekends it was very hot it was very humid my suck is that I have a heat rash on my ass oh that is a big suck because I was wearing shorts I was
Starting point is 01:17:57 wearing denim shorts with my swimmers underneath and I yeah you know you all know how heat rashes are caused on your like cheek or in the crack no just on my butt cheek okay it's got a heat rash on my butt cheek okay yeah I look like I got adult acne on my butt now so it's gonna be there for like two weeks and I have to kind of I'm sitting in jeans it's fucking disaster you gotta put some talcum powder or something on there I think that helps a little bit of johnson and johnson baby powder yeah like a two-year-old okay and my sweet for the week is that I got to spend some really awesome quality time with the girls which you know like the last couple of weeks since being back at work things have been really full on and I get to see them every day and I'm with them every
Starting point is 01:18:33 day but there's a very big difference between like going through the motions of the day getting them ready for daycare and getting them you know food into them and getting them into bed and you know then actually having like real intentional time with them like quality time and like little conversations it's so amazing to get to an age especially with Marley she's three and a half where you really can understand how their little mind works and kids are so weird and they're so cool and they have you saying the fucking dumbest stuff like yesterday I was like hey Marley get my toothbrush out of your pants and then you think when would you ever say that like as an adult when have you ever thought to say the sentence get my toothbrush out of your pants but when you're a
Starting point is 01:19:08 parent it's totally normal matt doesn't come home and say that to you stop brushing with the electric toothbrush your legs but also it's just so cool that they're at an age where i feel like they're little unique persons like so much of their personality is who they are now and it's kind of cool having these two extra humans in the house that can contribute to conversations very cute.
