Starting point is 00:00:00 this is gonna go down a treat today isn't it all right all right guess who's back that was so creepy guys welcome back to another episode of life uncut i'm britney and i'm laura and welcome welcome back we have had a great little break and you know what is this is this britney hockley is this the real britney hockley who's currently on my tv screen can the real britney hockley please stand up no sit down so you need to talk into that microphone yes yes i am i am she how is it in your life right now it's a bit of a volcano isn't it oh god don't say that have you been watching yeah i mean i watched it with you what do you even mean have i been watching
Starting point is 00:01:03 Brittany's forgotten how to podcast. She's like, so, what have you been doing? I didn't want to assume you knew who I was, you know? Actually, that was so funny. Laura and I did, if you were following our Instagrams, you would have seen that we watched the first episode together and we just couldn't stop laughing. I don't think I actually heard a thing that was said
Starting point is 00:01:21 because we were just in hysterics the whole time. Oh, yeah, I was laughing at you, though. What were you laughing at? At me. At me also. We can get to that in a hot second, but we, guys, we had a two-week break we had scheduled a one-week break because it was mid-year it had been actually it'd been over six months and we hadn't had a week off so we were going a little bit
Starting point is 00:01:43 insane by we i mean mainly laura i needed some time to recoup so we decided to have only one week off but then life threw us a curveball and brit had some really really sad family news and we had to kind of spread it out over two weeks which means that we are rusty dusty but i had a family member really unexpectedly pass away and it we just I didn't really know what to do with that and I wasn't functioning very well that week so Laura's like don't be ridiculous go deal with your life because life does happen but we're not going to get into that because we don't want to bring the mood down we love bringing you this podcast it's something that we are so passionate about we're so dedicated to and then every so often like something happens in our personal
Starting point is 00:02:25 lives and we're like oh that's wow that kind of throws things out a little bit and then we aren't able to be here and give you that consistency but but we're back and we are here and we are hot and ready and we do want to yeah thank you for your support i can't deal with that sound i can't it's too early in the podcast um your support was amazing so thank you so much so many of you wrote in saying that you missed us we missed you too but we do have some news britney you're pregnant oh damn it why do you ruin it for me no i'm not pregnant i am not pregnant in the two week break so actually two weeks ago life uncut with your host britney and laura hit two million downloads laura that was you i just thought you were gonna be there with me i didn't realize i
Starting point is 00:03:10 also had a glass of wine before we started this so i'm feeling a bit jazzy we were talking about it before we went on our break and we thought that we would be back in time but it's great we're excited thank you so much for listening for subscribing for all the amazing feedback especially on some of the episodes some of the episodes where I feel like we've really bared our souls and and shared parts of our personal lives it's been so incredible and reassuring to receive your incredible comments or for you to tell us how that's helped you in different ways and how that's touched you so we're so grateful for that as well and the time frame it took for us to hit our first million and then and then it was probably half the time to get from 1 million
Starting point is 00:03:51 to 2 million means you guys are telling your friends and you're sharing the love and you're we love love too soon you're the reason we're growing so we just wanted to say a big huge thank you and we are going to be doing a little giveaway so if you are not already following our instagram page which is life uncut podcast we highly highly recommend that you jump on board because in the next couple of days we have put together a big whopping giveaway which we're going to announce on there so yes you're going to be in it to win it you're getting a signed poster of laura and myself i'll sign your chest but wow when we were away we both went on a little vacay little like long weekender and i want to talk about it is that all right sure take the microphone
Starting point is 00:04:36 I had the funnest weekend I went down to the south coast to Jervis Bay which I love anyway but it's been high on my list to go free diving with either whale sharks or humpback whales I've always always wanted to do it so I did it I went out into the ocean we literally you just drive around in a boat until you find humpbacks and then you jump in the water with them it was insane so we were driving along and we saw a pot of dolphins first so we stopped and jumped in with them and had a play and they were so playful then we kept going we couldn't find humpbacks for ages and if you don't see them you're unlucky you just don't see them then we saw this huge one breach and it was amazing so the boat pulls up and you literally just dive in the water and then the boat
Starting point is 00:05:20 goes away so it leaves you in the ocean on your own because the boat doesn't want to scare the humpbacks away and then you're just like floundering around waiting and then out of nowhere. This whale just breaches in front of you. And it was absolutely incredible. I don't know if you can hear the excitement in my voice, but I was just, it was beyond anything I could have imagined. My adrenaline was pumping. I can't, I can't recommend it enough to anyone. It's not a sponsored thing. I just frothed it so hard. You just said froth and also your pupils are so dilated. It looks like you've taken a tab of acid. Very excited about this. Adventure and this sort stuff is really really what gets me going so i just i don't know and then then we went and found
Starting point is 00:06:02 this colony of seals that were just being like fat lazy seals on these rocks there were probably 50 of them as we approached them on these rocks they they legitimately got so excited that they like wiggle ran whatever they do on the rocks you know how they're like the wiggle run like that they wiggle ran to the end of the rocks and just plummeted in the ocean to make a beeline for us and again we just jumped in and they were all around us like properly playing with us it was magical you had a really great trip down the south coast I also went for a trip down the south coast it's very different when you have a one-year-old um what'd you do I feel like it's not gonna make for a very interesting story I had a babysitter and I went out for dinner one of those
Starting point is 00:06:43 nights and that was magic yeah amazing yeah in this episode today we're going to be talking about big life advice and our big life lessons and one of them was like in mind is going to be talking about being a mom and how much I love it and how it's changed my life completely and now after listening to Brittany's story I'm like fuck my life I want to swim with a goddamn whale anyway okay enough whales enough seals let's get to the down and dirty questions that people actually want to hear how are you feeling about Bachelor in Paradise oh it's a tough question I mean the old bath scene it's bloody weird watching your friend going on tv did you how did you feel actually how did you feel i feel very happy for you like i hope that you are happy it's very
Starting point is 00:07:29 confronting watching you be sexual on tv i mean i don't think i'd cause sexual war there was tongue i saw the tongue i mean go you go get a girlfriend look it was the bath scene went for longer than i expected did he say to you was he not like hey this is reminiscent of a date I have had quite recently where I sat in a bath with a certain bachelorette I mean yeah he had a bit of a giggle and then I had a bit of a giggle and felt like a fool of course it's very limited in what we can talk about because of like Brit's contracts and and the whole mechanics of how the show actually works but genuinely I'm interested to hear how you feel and I know that this has been a really a long time coming and you've had to kind of put your life on hold essentially yeah you're right I
Starting point is 00:08:12 can't say much guys once um once it's all over obviously we can all speak freely and I will be able to live my life again I'm happy yes that it has started the show has been a long time coming and this part of my life was a long time ago it's a long time to keep something unwrapped let me tell you I'm laughing watching it and I love seeing these people are my friends so we had some great times on there there was some drama as well which stay tuned but I watching back now I'm just to be honest blatantly honest which I always am I'm ready for it to be done I'm enjoying it it's funny but I want my life back playing out eight months or six months or nine months or however long it's been after it's actually happened so you're kind of like living in the past essentially which is
Starting point is 00:08:56 exactly how it feels right now yeah I've said it before it there's no other way to put it other then your life is on hold because you have limitations whether you want to or not and so yeah I'm just I'm counting down the days until I can be free and as soon as it's over we'll have the goss all right all right all right all right okay so guys I forgot what I was gonna say I can take it from here Laura it is time for our fave segment accidentally unfiltered your most embarrassing awkward moments where you wish you were buried or you wish you were anywhere other than where you are you tell us your stories and we laugh our heads off and tell the world and it gets better and better do you think it's getting better i have missed these last two weeks and what
Starting point is 00:09:44 i've been doing is as you guys send them in so as you send them in over instagram i have been screenshotting them and i have a secret folder now of just accidentally unfiltered stories which truly they get me through the night when i think that my life is like boring as hell and why does it have to be a secret file it cannot just be like a normal one in my dirty secret file like is that as bad as it gets for you britney give me you're accidentally unfiltered i have one that made me laugh so hard actually there were so many but this run really stuck with me she gave us a heading my brush with meningococcal i feel like this is a little bit too close to home with covid happening right now okay i once woke up in a panic after discovering a sprawling red rash on my legs
Starting point is 00:10:24 I called my dad immediately he came all the way across town to pick me up as I was convinced I needed to go to the doctor maybe hospital and I really needed some moral support after observing the rash dad agreed and suggested we go straight to the hospital on the car trip to the hospital I was looking to my dad for comfort as I had always done but he had never seen anything like it so he was showing unnerving signs of worrying giving the meningococcal disease was circulating at the time and the community warnings were out targeting 18 year old party people such as myself I was in a complete panic. The main symptom being a red rash. Dad drove into emergency told me to jump out of the car and go straight to the front desk and he'd park it because you know there's a
Starting point is 00:11:06 time limit with things like meningococcal. The nurse there observed the rash and pushed me to the front of the queue. Five minutes later I was in with the doctor. Assuming my rash was potentially contagious. The doctor performed a cursory inspection. Thinking the worst, I squinched at my face and waited for the diagnosis. What's he going to say? Hospitalization? Transfusion? Amputation? He then questions what I had been up to yesterday. I thought, what does what I did yesterday have to do with this rash on my legs? Can it really be transmitted that quickly? I began recalling the day prior, starting with the fact that I'd been out with my girlfriends until quite late. As I was talking, he grabbed an alcohol swab, which I thought was to clean the area of
Starting point is 00:11:44 the rash and cleaned the area it did. The doctor efficiently cured me with a couple of wipes. It was a miracle or was it? The red rash was actually red wine that had been unknowingly splattered on my legs during the course of my big Saturday night. I was mortified. I had run to the front of the queue for a red wine stain. Dad was waiting for me in the emergency lounge. I ran out to him and said, dad, get in the car, quick, go. I'll tell you what happened later. The thing I love about this is that this is such a nerdy doctor humor and that's why you love it so much you think that's why yes because i love this so much i feel like like 70 of our listeners are going to be going like yeah that's funny and then there's going to be a small portion of people who work
Starting point is 00:12:28 in the medical industry who are going to be like fucking lol kate imagine laura if you thought you were dying imagine if you were like quick i'm gonna lose my leg i'm gonna die i fix me and the doctor's like you've spilled your bottle of wine on you i have a story to tell so i once went to hospital. I can only imagine where this is going. I once went to hospital because I thought I was fucking dying, Brittany. I was dying. I had, I woke up in the middle of the night with these stabbing pains and I was like, holy shit, my kidney's about to explode. I don't have an appendix. My appendix is already gone. I was like, my kidneys, that's it. This is all the alcohol I did in my twenties. My kidneys are about to explode. So I called a friend, got taken to the
Starting point is 00:13:08 hospital i had gas you had to fart you had to i got rushed through emergency i had all the tests done and yeah look gas and what really bad guys they just poked your belly in and out it came no britney do not trivialize my they had to do run some tests what actually do you know what i know because i do ct scans and x-rays and i look at it straight away and I'll say this person needs to fart and poop immediately. They would have looked at yours and been like, oh, she just needs to whiz pop. Anyone who has had extreme gas who felt like they were dying.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Oh, it was extreme. Extreme, wild extreme. Well, your boyfriend was lucky that night, wasn't he? Oh, look, I didn't have one at the time. Really blew him away. Oh, really? Really? Look, I know we've had two weeks of the podcast,
Starting point is 00:14:00 but that was rusty. No, that was great. Anyway, so I feel for that girl. I have my own accidentally unfiltered which is obviously not mine but it's one that's been written in so this message came in over our Instagram I was sitting at the hairdressers at the time and I read this and I pissed myself laughing audibly within the hairdresser and then had to read it out audibly audibly to the head had to read it out to all the people there so I think this is a good one not to kind of not to amp it up before I deliver it but well you shut
Starting point is 00:14:30 mine down so it better be good. I think it's pretty good. Okay so about four years ago I was dating this guy. His name started with J. One night my best friend hosted a party at her house and I really really wanted him there that he ended up pulling out last minute. I was quite devastated as I was really really excited to see him and I wanted to introduce him to my friends. So to drown my sorrows I ended up getting very very drunk. Look I understand it's not a good coping mechanism them. However, this is what happened. So this was the first and only time I have passed out from drinking. Luckily, I have good friends who carried me to bed that night. When I woke up in the morning, I looked at my phone and I checked my messages. Weird, I thought. Why did I send a text
Starting point is 00:15:12 message to my grandma? Side note, her name also starts with J. I lived with her for a few months previous to this. So it's not uncommon for me to text her. I looked at what I'd sent her the night before and in that moment a little bit of me died inside oh no I had accidentally sexted my grandma whilst I was drunk and what did Nan say thinking it was the guy I was seeing these weren't just cheeky texts either these were along the lines of I'm so horny all I want to do right now is fuck you i'm r.i.p me deceased dead i'm done oh my god she's like a sinking feeling came over me i i deleted the text messages i ended up avoiding my grandma for a few months who i used to speak to every day she never responded to the text and we've never spoken
Starting point is 00:16:08 well i feel like i feel like in this situation you need to own it your grandma's got the text You're like, Nan, I don't want to, but I was very horny. I'm sorry. No, I just be like, hey, Nan, let's just forget last night happened. I'm sorry. I'll pick you up for tea tomorrow at six. Get on with it. You just need to address it and move on.
Starting point is 00:16:31 It's worse when you don't talk about something, don't you think? And it's like this awkward elephant in the room. I don't know. I think that you can just like unsubscribe from life and these events and pretend like nothing's ever happened. Be an ostrich. Put your head in the sand. What happens at her birthday?
Starting point is 00:16:43 Well, I don't think she's, I don't think Nan is going to pull that out at her 21st, britney i'm pretty sure it's not gonna come up i meant nana's birthday nana prints it off and just sticks it on the like the cork board at her 21st birthday next to a photo of when she's two years old oh that is too much luckily like i mean we all know i've done this where i've sent the wrong text multiple times that's how this whole segment started but i've never thank god to this day i have never sent it to a family member that's my saving grace because that's that's the worst thing because you're with them forever everyone else you can just like you can unsubscribe from i'm
Starting point is 00:17:15 pretty sure this girl feels bad enough and she's probably listening to this episode you don't need to rub it in for it if you want to send us an accidentally unfiltered for next week's episode jump on our instagram life uncut podcast send them on through if you're not on instagram then we also or even if you are on instagram we have a great little face group page as well which is life uncut podcast you can send through your accidentally unfiltered there we have decided to start a brand new section, segment, who knows, whatever you want to call it. Stop with the X-Files.
Starting point is 00:17:48 And that is I Can't Believe They Said That. So we were originally going to call this I Can't Believe He Said That, but then we remembered girls can be fuck girls as well. So we were like we cannot marginalise the people who have been victimised by nasty girls out there. So we've started this thread on the Facebook group and I'm going to tell you, it is so dark and so twisted, but also very funny. And we're going to read out some of our absolute favorites of, I can't believe that they said that. Yeah. Cause I remember I was just thinking about it
Starting point is 00:18:22 and I was like, what has someone said to me that, that I was just like, I can't believe it. And I was seeing this guy for a few months and he said, you're really hot. If you lost five kilos, you'd be better oh did you break up with him straight away yeah but like we're still low-key friends that's because you're like I'm Brittany and I love red flags are you mean to me let's date and get married and spend the rest of our lives together in a really really really unfunctional relationship dysfunctional I've got you um I just I can't really hate many people and I'm always like I'll forgive you but no we're friends he's fine now he's moved along but look I'm gonna fat shaming somebody else. I went to the hairdresser to get a new hairdo and I came
Starting point is 00:19:06 home and I said to my boyfriend, what do you think? He said, I think you look like Danny DeVito. Are we talking about Danny DeVito when he was like in the movie Junior or now? Because he kind of looks like Einstein. I don't think it's a win either way. I think it's you've lost. There is no way to make this a backhanded compliment. It is just aggressive and unnecessary and I'm sure she cried us off to sleep and she needs to find herself a new hairdresser if she looks like Danny DeVito. Unless she literally shaved a bald spot
Starting point is 00:19:36 in the middle of her head. Like I feel like maybe he was a bit out with that one. It must've been an old Danny DeVito where it was just like short curly or something. I don't know. I don't know. It's unfortunate, whatever it is. All right, hit me.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Okay, all right. So my favorite one that came through was pretty twisted and dark, but it was during the breakup talk. So my boyfriend was literally breaking up with me and while he was breaking up with me he said well you know what like your grandparents and your dog they're like they're both probably gonna die this year and I just don't have time for that oh oh my god these people are horrific this is dark it's not even funny it's actually just too
Starting point is 00:20:14 dark it's so dark I'm gonna give you a slightly funnier one go so would you get butt implants if paid for them probably we actually got so many so many written in from people whose boyfriends had offered to pay for cosmetic procedures that they had never expressed that they wanted like boot jobs and butt implants and my boyfriend said to me hey as soon as I get a new job and I'm earning good money I'm gonna get you those breast implants she's like I have never mentioned breast implants in my life there are so many questionable ones we will try and bring you the least offensive slash funniest ones each week but there are some really dark ones in there but you know what I kind of like that there's different points in our lives where people say really offensive things to us and
Starting point is 00:21:06 you can kind of take that really personally and feel like it's only happens to you it happens to everyone that's what this is about making everyone feel included the world is equally fucked for everyone all right let's get into it hey all right today's episode topic which is not so much a topic we kind of were thinking about what we were going to do for today's episode and how we were going to get back into the mojo and we thought we should really do an episode which was us kind of reflecting on and giving our life's greatest advice you know when you receive advice or something happens in your life that's a real turning point for you that makes you go like like ah things just kind of click and they make more sense and just that little kind of golden
Starting point is 00:21:48 nugget that we're going to parcel up wrap it into a nice little present and put it in your court this analogy I don't know what I'm saying you wrap a present up in a parcel and put it in your court love that sometimes advice can be a little bit confusing that's what Confucius says but we're going to do our best what's your number one piece of advice or life lesson do you think Laura? Is there anything that just like immediately jumped out at you when you were thinking about writing your list? I think my number one thing that really stood out to me when I was like what is this like piece of advice that's changed my life or like how do I feel about my life now in my 30s verse when I was younger and that is that I really believe that your life is your
Starting point is 00:22:32 responsibility and if you want to have a happy life if you want to achieve things in your life if you want to be successful if you want to have a great relationship that all comes down to you and it's not what other people do to you it's not your circumstances it's not your situations of course everybody is uneven on the playing field like everybody has different advantages and disadvantages in life you can only make so many excuses for the things that happen to you in your life before you take responsibility and take action and dictate the sort of life that you want to live and I think growing up I was a bit of an angry teenager and I think I held on I had just I just got a visual of you just being like an emo with a tiny little black fringe like
Starting point is 00:23:12 rocking out in your bedroom no like we had a we had a pretty we had a pretty hard childhood I would say um mum remarried when I was young um and my stepdad we had a really really tumultuous time and it was a very very difficult time for our family and a difficult time in my childhood and I won't go into full details because it's still something that I don't feel comfortable talking about, but I grew up growing out of that childhood. I felt really angry and really resentful for a long time. And I felt like the things that happened to me and the things that didn't happen to me were a result of not having this happy, perfect childhood. As I got older and I kind of realized, I was like, the only person that's going to turn that around. And the only person that can
Starting point is 00:23:57 be responsible for your attitude is yourself. So I really do think that in life, you have to take that responsibility if you want to be happy and you want to have a good life and I know that that's a super heavy one to kind of get off on as like straight out of the gates but but it's true it's so true and you know I'm I'm really proud of the life that I have now and I'm really proud of the family that I have and I'm so happy now and I'm so grateful but I know that that came from making decisions and being assertive and taking risks and saying yes to opportunities and absolutely I couldn't agree more and everything you just said was spot on there were so many little parts of that that sort of linked back into different points that I had made but it's like everything
Starting point is 00:24:40 you were saying I was like yeah me too yeah like I really felt what you were saying it leads into something that I feel pretty strongly about and that is literally it sounds simple and easy but anything you want to do you need to go and do it for yourself somebody's not going to walk up and hand it to you on a platter so I guess mine is just about really working hard and creating your own opportunities definitely some people are born into better opportunities like we can't argue that point I love that our number one point was like very much this idea of ownership of your life and making your life something that you are proud of and something that is special to you and something that you can go I did that well I have this this quote that I just love and it is
Starting point is 00:25:20 luck is simply a matter of preparation meeting the moment of opportunity opportunities are going to constantly present themselves but you need to be ready for it and you need to also still be out there looking for it if an opportunity hasn't come to you okay hang on firstly if an opportunity comes to you explore it say yes grab it with both hands take the risk jump in people will tell you you can't do it people will tell you you're crazy not to do it everything that can go wrong but you have to take a risk that something might go right if the opportunity doesn't present itself to you but you really want to do something you go and make your own opportunities it's a little bit harder. It might take a little bit longer to get there, but you chase it. You go out there and
Starting point is 00:25:58 literally fight for what you want. And I wholeheartedly believe that. The worst thing that's going to happen to you is someone says no. So I have two examples of this and they're both Brittany. One is that the opportunity of Bachelor in Paradise came around and you said yes. And that kind of just fell into your lap, really. I didn't make, I didn't make you, I gave you the pros and the cons, but you said yes to opportunity. The second one to that is this podcast. Like this isn't something that anyone handed to us. Like there was no opportunity that came our way. This is something that we hustled. It's something that we both wanted. And I look back and I think like we had coffee this one day and we talked about the possibility of starting a podcast. And
Starting point is 00:26:39 I think that so many people have these ideas and you're like, oh, you know, I'm going to start a business or I'm going to start a sport or I'm going to whatever it is. I'm going to start a hobby. I'm going to run a marathon. There's so many different things that we all talk about doing and very few of those things actually get put into action. So every so often when you kind of talk about something and then it actually happens and you take the steps to take control and actually put those things into play in your life, it's so amazing to sit back a year down the track and go, holy shit, look what we did. Oh, like to relate this directly to me, like you just said, this happened a lot of people in my life told me not to do the bachelor originally
Starting point is 00:27:17 don't do it it's not for you can't see you on there i don't think it's going to end well and i mean did it end well i think yeah it did it wasn't the end you know no but like in hindsight at the time yeah kill me whatever it was uh a pretty long walk of shame it's a very public walk of shame it's a very public oh it was so long too that was the longest walk could have been like a small aisle to a helicopter but it wasn't it was like a big circle thing where he had to watch me the whole time wait I have a really funny story about the whole walk of shame so after Georgia Love broke up with Matt and said it wasn't him he had to walk out like you know you have to turn around and walk away he had to do it again he walked the wrong way so they made
Starting point is 00:28:01 him come back and do it again that is the worst I feel so sorry for him I still tease him about it that's the worst but the second one is okay so I did that and in turn worked out well because it led me to the podcast to you to everything else in my life paradise this is why you have to take risks and listen to yourself and not anybody else if you have an idea or a dream or something you really really want to achieve you have to block out anyone else in your life I also kind of like from that I like this idea that nothing in life is a problem unless you view it as a problem so like the things that upset us the thing that things that make us angry the things that hurt us they're only that if that's the perspective that we take on them and I know that it's not you can't
Starting point is 00:28:47 kind of trivialize everything down to that I'm not talking about grief I'm not talking about when you know you lose someone who you love or a relationship doesn't work out I think that there are other lessons to learn in those periods of life but I'm talking about the more trivial stuff like the hurdles with starting a business or the the feelings of not being good enough I think you know we worry so much about stuff that never actually eventuates and you can worry yourself out of opportunities and you can kind of like minimize your life and downplay the things that you could be for fear of something going wrong and it's like but what if something goes right and what if your life ends up being bigger and better and more colorful and more vibrant than
Starting point is 00:29:27 what you're allowing it to be because you were too scared to move out of your hometown or you were too scared to take that job you were too scared to go on that holiday I think amazing opportunities come from saying yes and the only time that you limit yourself is by constantly saying no to new experiences when something presents itself to you that's slightly scary that's where we mean being like yeah let's just see see what can happen but that's where life gets interesting right like when you're a bit scared about taking an opportunity or taking a risk sometimes you need to get off track in order to find something new that you love if you're if you're stuck in a rut if you're not happy then you kind of have to start saying yes to new things in
Starting point is 00:30:02 order to create some change yeah and I don't think really we're getting so deep I don't think there is an off track I don't think there's a wrong direction because I think that's all part of the journey I think if you've gone off track and in the wrong direction is because you're supposed to learn something along the way and it's going to redirect you to where you're supposed to go because you're going to learn something from everything so I think really pay attention to when these big life events or curveballs are thrown your way because that's where you're to learn something and it's going to direct you back where you need to go but my next one is that you can be the sweetest softest most beautiful tastiest lemon meringue pie and there's gonna be
Starting point is 00:30:38 someone out there that doesn't like lemon meringue pie so you that was great wasn't it i love lemon meringue pie i was like what kind of freaking weirdo doesn't like lemon meringue pie i know but there's gonna be some sicko out there that's just there it's probably too zesty for them you know how it gets you up there at the jaw oh i love that bit that's what i love but the point of this is not everyone's gonna like lemon meringue pie not everyone you are never ever no matter who you are in the world you're not gonna be for everybody and there's going to be someone that doesn't like you but you need to remember not to take it personally because no one worries about that and no one thinks about you and judges you as much as you judge yourself this is when brit and i were
Starting point is 00:31:17 kind of talking about like our greatest advice i had this i had this huge life lesson that happened to me, which Brit kind of was a part of. So it was this very, very like serendipitous experience where I, I was at the airport. Do you remember this? It's a great story. So I was sitting at the airport and it was pretty recent after Marley was born. I was sitting in a food court and I was in the international airport and I was breastfeeding Marley. I was like, so did not care about breastfeeding. I was like, I'll get my titty out anyway. Like I was very liberal. My baby's hungry. I'm going to feed her. And I almost like was one of those annoying moms that would make a point of it I'd be like whatever I'm gonna breastfeed my baby in public you're gonna come
Starting point is 00:31:54 up to me and make a big deal about it I will put you on the spot I'm gonna take my whole shirt off yes so I was in the international airport and I was breastfeeding Marley and this a guy like really handsome a super handsome guy and four beautiful women they walked past me and they were together as a group and they stopped and they stared at me and they to the point where they were pointing at me whilst I was breastfeeding Marley and now I probably wouldn't have thought much about it except for the fact that I 100% thought that they were offended by the fact that I was breastfeeding and I made this assumption because the women were all wearing headscarves and I thought they you know they must have been Muslim and it was a cultural thing and
Starting point is 00:32:34 maybe me breastfeeding Marley had offended them because I was doing it in a public place and they were making it very obvious that they were pointing and talking about me and I felt so defensive and so frustrated by this situation and I remember sitting there and I was like I was sitting there and I didn't stop breastfeeding I continued but I said to Matt I was like I'm I feel really frustrated by this I was like I feel like this has really upset me and well this is where I decide to send you a message saying hey I just want you to have a really great trip relax you enjoy it and Laura this is where it's so weird Laura wrote back to me and she was like not off to a great start and I just said to Britt in the message I was like you
Starting point is 00:33:18 know I'm feeling really judged I'm sitting in the international airport and and you know this man and and these ladies have just made me feel incredibly uncomfortable because I'm breastfeeding Marley and Britt 10 minutes after that writes back and she's like was was it a man with four women and I was like yeah she's like how do you know that how do you where are you how are you what are you doing and and Brit was like Laura that's like my best friend he's my best mate and I had no idea like there was no way that I would have known that or could have known that he literally wrote to me and said babe I just saw Laura your podcast host and your friend at the airport with her little baby she must be going away but then he said that he thought you because you could you
Starting point is 00:34:03 guys just locked eyes and you were there thinking oh my god they judge me for breastfeeding and they the three they were all family they're all family members and the poor sisters were like oh my god I can only imagine that this girl thinks we're all sister wives and it was just this really weird it was just like this really weird it was to me it was a huge lesson and I think for you too that everyone in that situation thought that they were being judged by the other people and something nothing was actually happening no one was judging anyone in fact yeah I remember getting that message back from brit and i i felt like such a fucking asshole i was like wow like i i've made these assumptions based on total like total cultural assumptions that the only thing that
Starting point is 00:34:44 you could be looking at me would have been negative i didn't think for one second that it was because they recognized me or that they knew me we both had this incredible miscommunication where we both assumed the absolute worst of each other and neither neither of us actually think those things of each other. Like I, not for one second did I think that they were sister wives and not for one second did they think negatively of me breastfeeding in public. But I think it's a really good lesson to know that just because you think something doesn't actually make it fact and people don't think about you as much as you think about you. And that was a really great lesson for me to learn in public. It was also a great lesson for me to learn on like my cultural
Starting point is 00:35:24 assumptions of other people it's not nice when you kind of learn oh I made that stereotype based on something that is so poorly informed like I made that stereotype and I was wrong to be honest you were really really you were a new mom as well and I think that it doesn't matter what culture race or religion they were if you found someone looking at you like that you would have felt the same thing because I just think you're new to breastfeeding in public as well there is like this whole like you know the whole mum guilt and the feeling of shame and everything that comes with and it is like for the first couple of months it is a bit strange kind of getting your boob out in public so if someone wants to fight you on it you're like I will fight you on this but that
Starting point is 00:36:04 experience in itself really like I really learned a lesson from that because I walked away from it feeling really guilty and feeling sad that I had made somebody else think so negatively of me or think that I could possibly be thinking that of them when it was purely based in my own judgment and I reckon we do this all the time like I think there would be times where you might have seen someone look at you and you assume that they're thinking the worst but they might actually just be like I love that girl's jumper she's got beautiful eyelashes I love the color of her hair there's so many occasions that happen in our life where we assume worst case scenario and it's very very rarely worst case scenario I think it's a confidence thing too isn't it you you might just
Starting point is 00:36:45 lack a bit of confidence in yourself when you think that automatically think the world against you. But I think it does link back to not judging a book by its cover. Don't make assumptions about people that you don't know. And also like what you said, this idea that like no one cares about you as much as you care about you. So much. No one cares about me. If you think people are talking about you, they're probably not. People are so worried about themselves and that's people's like main prerogative and main worry and concern in life is their own self. So I think people talk about us, talk about us and care about us. And we occupy less space in their brain than what we actually think. Okay, Laura. So what's your next life lesson? So my next life lesson comes down to
Starting point is 00:37:26 relationships as you know, got to tie it all back to the relationship. Mine is something that I have learned over the years and that is you shouldn't act out of anger. So if you're in the midst of having a fight or things are not going well and you feel furious at your partner, then you need to wait until that anger passes because when that anger passes, the relationship is still going to be there. When you're no longer angry, the damage that's done to your relationship when you've acted out of anger remains permanent and will permanently hurt that relationship. So I know that there's times where in the heat of the moment, I have felt a certain way. And usually, usually my initial reaction to something that has been said or done is to be angry. And then once you've had 24 hours
Starting point is 00:38:10 to process it. The anger usually has subsided and you have a little bit more of a clear idea of how you feel, or you have a bit of more of a clear idea of how to communicate without saying horrible things or lashing out or throwing something at your partner. You can act crazy in the heat of the moment. And like, assuming that your partner hasn't cheated on you or done something that's like pretty hectic, assuming it's, it's just come out of a miscommunication and like a clash of personalities then being angry and acting out of anger can really cause long-term damage I've been really lucky I've never thrown something at someone just from what you said in that sentence but once I had someone throw a roast at me like a whole roast
Starting point is 00:38:50 I'm talking like kind of roast I'm talking chicken chicken gravy and all the spuds the whole roast was in the pan and it's like I ninja I ninja'd out of the way and it's the chicken splattered against the wall and like dripped down with the gravy what did you do to get a chicken roast thrown at you why we were we were in the midst of breaking up and we're obviously just having a verbal abuse session i imagine it was a long time ago um and he threw the roast at me and i looked at it and i said well well done now you're hungry and you have to clean it up and i walked away but then like obviously had to order uber eats that fire when you're angry because something's happened I did it to Matt the other day I can't even honestly I cannot remember
Starting point is 00:39:36 what he said I cannot remember what he did but he knows how to push my buttons and sometimes he does it on purpose because he finds it funny I've seen it yeah he does it on purpose all the time and I and I just normally I'm pretty good at not reacting because he does it because he finds it a bit funny and I just reacted this day and I ended up throwing it's just the top it's like the bottle Marley like the top of the bottle which is not hard it's like a little thing yeah I pegged it at him but like I didn't need to do that and he was like you he was it's so unlike me and he was angry that I did it that just made the whole argument escalate escalate to a point where it was no longer funny but it was because I was so angry and then hours later I was like oh I'm the
Starting point is 00:40:18 one I'm the dickhead me I'm the one who acted badly you sound really surprised yeah this is something I learned after dating the really toxic relationship that I've talked about all the time but so what happened what happened this one night and I'm not proud of this I'm pretty sure I might have told you this in a past podcast but like I'm gonna do it again um I had woken up in the middle of the night and his phone had been buzzing next to us and it was like I knew that he had been texting a girl throughout the date our date um and I think yeah I knew I knew he was texting someone else I just knew it I could feel it in my bones like that intuition feeling and I I picked up his phone I went through his phone and sure enough he'd been texting a girl and I
Starting point is 00:41:01 got out of bed and he was passed out on the ground and I kicked him as hard as I could kick him because I was so angry that I kicked him that's like physical abuse yeah I'm not I'm not condoning this stuff guys you kick him in the ribs and I went home and I you kicked and left kicked and left almost through his phone off a balcony and I and I got home and I look you know obviously like he was still in the wrong but the thing that made the situation worse is that I was then also in the wrong and prior to that I had done nothing wrong and I and I could have left that situation on a moral high ground like without being an arsehole in that situation but I lowered myself to his level purely out of anger and I know had I left it for a day I wouldn't I would have still been angry
Starting point is 00:41:45 but I wouldn't have been so angry that I would have kicked him. So I think really think about the decisions that you make. Know you're crazy, my friends, and tone it back just a notch. I think that's really funny. I don't think it's funny. He didn't think it was funny. No, just like the kick in the ribs and leave. No, I absolutely agree.
Starting point is 00:42:04 One of my points was don't go to bed mad. I agree with that. My parents, 42 years of marriage, never go to bed mad. And I was just thinking as you were talking, I've seen Laura and Matt have these little tips that are like half joking, half just like annoyance tips where Matt's pushing her buttons. It just happened before.
Starting point is 00:42:20 And then at the end of it, even if they're like mad at each other, they're like, right, well, I love you. And you're like, I love you too. And you're like, yeah, well, love me more. Give me a kiss. You've shitted. Yeah, even like it's actually funny to watch because you can tell that they're really like,
Starting point is 00:42:34 one of them's pissed the other one off a little bit, but you'll never, you walk away from it always being like, well, see you in a minute. It's like, you know, you always say love you and you're happy and you know that it's never, you know you're going to deal with it before the night's done and I think that's absolutely one of the most important things you can do in a relationship coming from someone that's been single 10 years guys that's really important in a relationship that's why we take up dating advice
Starting point is 00:42:53 from Brittany but also I think that that's a testament to a good and healthy relationship like obviously I have the benchmark now to compare to my past relationships which were incredibly toxic and dysfunctional not all of them but some of them whereas like Matt and I the stuff that we fight about it's all trivial it's just like everyday stresses of being parents of like dealing with the daily grind you know like we spend so much time with each other that of course sometimes we piss each other off well yeah it's more just stress fatigue frustrations it's not it's not real and you take stuff out on the people that are closest to you but like we always make up after those sorts of bickering fights and we go to bed loving each other like we never ever take
Starting point is 00:43:32 things into the next day we're not resentful I think that you need to be really careful of that in your relationships because if there's too much bickering and not enough making up and like having fun that's when resentment can settle in and that's when you kind of wake up in five years or two years or ten years and you're like wow we really lost that honeymoon period and we really don't kick them in the ribs and you run love each other anymore yeah it's it's so true another thing that I am going to add in um that's that ties into relationships obviously but that's the opposite of that and that's I feel so strongly about being okay on your own and being able to be in your own company and and take on the world and life's problems on your own realizing that you don't
Starting point is 00:44:16 need someone in your life to accomplish the things you've always wanted to do to buy your own place to travel the world to get your promotion to celebrate yourself I think a lot of people can get lost in the fact that they feel like they're a failure if they're on their own and if they're hit 30 and they're still single and they're not married and they don't have children they feel like I'm not where I'm supposed to be in life I'm not where I should be in life I've failed at something I'm missing something I'm not okay I'm never going to be okay I'm never going to be happy and that breaks my heart because I feel like I'm a testament myself to you can do anything you want to do on your own and I am proud of myself I don't need someone to be proud of me because I can do it
Starting point is 00:44:58 on my own and I just I just want women to know that you can literally take on anything in the world on your own and it absolutely does not mean that you're a failure it just means you're on a different path you're taking a different route to get there and it and it will happen but I just don't want people to feel like to be successful you need to have someone in your life there's this really big stigma attached to hitting 30 and being single and not engaged and not married and no children where people associate that with some kind of failure but I can't stress enough that it is absolutely has no connection to failure whatsoever. There is a whole podcast topic in this like we have been talking about this over the last couple of weeks how we want to talk about
Starting point is 00:45:43 this idea that like just because you're single in your 30s doesn't make you any less successful in any facet of your life than somebody who's in a relationship in their 30s and relationships don't define your worth they don't define your happiness or they don't need to define your happiness and that you know you can find solace and happiness and and success and all the wonderful things that life brings you can still find all those things when you're single and and that literally brings me to my next point because I don't want to like go into that too much I really want that to be standalone podcast topics I have so many more points to it so let's cut it because we can make we're gonna we're gonna do this later on but my last one that I really want to say is something
Starting point is 00:46:22 that a friend said to me and I think it resonates so much and it kind of fits into this idea of being single and valuing your own relationship that is that the most important relationship that you're ever going to have is the relationship that you have with yourself because at the end of the day no relationship is a guarantee no marriage is a guarantee no human is a guarantee whether that be a romantic relationship a platonic relationship time and people change and things happen in life where we lose people that we love and circumstances that are completely out of our control and there will be times in your life where you will be alone and that's not something that you have any any control over and I think that you need to be happy with who you are as a person
Starting point is 00:47:06 and be able to really accept the person that you are and like the person that you are and be comfortable in your own company in order to be able to be happy as well and I know and I have spoken about it before but I know that there was a really long time where I wasn't happy being on my own and I recognize that now and I recognize that I filled my life with people who weren't good to me because I was so scared of being on my own and and I just think had I been able to be more confident and more self-assured that things were things were going to be okay I wouldn't have spent so much time dating people who didn't treat me right. I can't stress enough on the back of that, that the only person that you can guarantee is going to show up for you is yourself. 100%.
Starting point is 00:47:51 Boom, baby. And that's it. But mic drop doesn't even need an explanation. That's just it. You're going to be there because you physically can't get away from yourself. You're stuck with you. So I hope you like you. But guys, I know this is a bit of a different episode to what we normally do. we just wanted to ease back into this week's podcast and kind of you know after a couple of big weeks especially for brit just bring you a couple of those life lessons that we sort of live by and that have really changed our lives i guess and and these are it like these are the main things that that at different points in our journey have gone ah those eureka moments this makes sense now yeah and this one doesn't need an explanation but i think it's really important
Starting point is 00:48:29 we end on it and it's really obvious treat others how you want to be treated well actually somebody wrote in to that and she said treat others the way that they want to be treated because we assume that everyone wants to be treated the way that we want to be treated but that doesn't take into account that everybody is unique and different and that you don't know how they want to be treated well I mean you can find out without assuming I mean like okay just to make that shit real tricky we got down the rabbit hole we went so deep then i basically mean you treat the ceo the same as the waiter the same as the bus driver the same as your colleague same as your boss the same as your brother you treat everyone the same don't take guys who are mean to wait stuff ever that's
Starting point is 00:49:12 it that's the number one put that one at the beginning okay guys you know we never end a podcast without our suck and our sweet the highlights and the low light the best and the worst of our week can be trivial can be awesome mine is so trivial this week actually actually my sweet is not trivial but my suck is trivial all right you want to go first yes my suck my suck is so trivial on that one my suck is the fact that my computer and i know that anybody else is experiencing this right now is going to be like that's so fucking annoying my computer is full it's got no more storage space and every time i try and open an app or open anything or edit this goddamn podcast it's like you've got no more startup desk your startup desk is full and i hate
Starting point is 00:49:57 it and i hate mac and i'm sad i i mine is full i feel your pain yours has been full for the entire time that i've known you though and i don't know what to do with it so the other day brit said to me i don't know why every time i open my laptop all these programs keep opening and i looked at her laptop and she literally had about 27 different individual programs opened and I was like Brit do you ever just shut down a program when you when you leave it or do you just minimize the window exit it no I sometimes exit out proof isn't the fact that your computer is like broken it's literally yeah well mine's six years old yours is six months old and full so I win it's a brick with keys on it you don't know how to use technology okay I don't know how to I don't
Starting point is 00:50:42 know how to compute I know what's your sweet my sweet is the same thing that it is every single week and I'm sorry for being so disgustingly obsessed with my daughter but she has fully started walking I kind of jumped the gun a little bit a few weeks back when I was like oh my sweet is that Molly is working she took two steps then and then has literally sat on her ass for the rest of the time but it was like three days ago it was like something just clicked she had not done any more walking and then three days ago she just got up and started walking around the house and it's the best everyone keeps saying oh your life is over now that your daughter's walking and I'm like no this is the funnest shit ever because now she's like Marley go and get me that wine
Starting point is 00:51:21 no I walked in the house today and I haven't seen her in a little while because I've obviously been away and she literally ran to me and I nearly had an aneurysm I was so excited I was like she's like save me Brittany take me with you yeah she's like please take me away no I was so cute what is your sweet I mean what is your suck my suck I tried to think of something I hadn't already said I can't get around it guys I had a family member pass away and that's it I'm not gonna get deep but let's be real we're always real on the podcast that's my suck Britt you've had the most hellish week and I mean I'm happy that we're back yeah then that's my sweet uh we're back. We're back. I hadn't seen Laura in a while. I hadn't seen Marley. I hadn't seen Matt.
