Hello and welcome back to another bonus episode of Batch Uncut and things are getting weird
now because we're just here in your libraries all the time lurking another episode do you think
people are like fuck off hey guys what are you doing get out of the way well this is a no this
is three times i've been on the podcast this week we should really start paying you that's a record
that's an absolute record hey next week it'll be four a week after that five no imagine seven days
a week maddie j life uncut oh it's got a ring to it laura no hello
that's funny i'm back
oh i'm so comfortable here oh put my feet up that's because you're in your own house
in your underwear with no shoes on don't tell people anyway guys yesterday if you have been
following these little bonus episodes yesterday we brought out an ep with lily and today we're
going to be talking to the fantastic fabulous down to earth way too normal for reality tv carly
who has spectacular teeth well that's kind of true when you say we it's more so just you because
we had planned to do this interview together at the same time as our kids had gone to bed however
10 minutes into the chat Lola wakes up five minutes after that Marley wakes up and then
we were manned down Matt had to leave with both kids I did I took one for the team I grabbed the
kids I got out of here I was in the backyard so you do this interview by yourself I'm very upset
that I didn't really get to talk to Carly in detail what Matt's saying is that it's a hot
mess train wreck but we may not have our shit together but Carly most certainly does she is
amazing and we really do apologize lola comes in just for a brief second you know what it's just
really authentic we're living that real lockdown life guys but we thought this week like we've
obviously brought you the episode yesterday which was lily today carly and next week we're going to
bring you a couple more of these batch uncut bonus episodes where we interview some of the girls that
go home actually all the girls because there's only a couple left that are going home well yeah
there's two girls and then the winner to be removed yes forcibly removed i should chicken
Wings him. Get out of here. It's just got him in a headlock. Stop resisting. Get out of here.
Anyway, guys, on that note, let's get into the chat with Carly. Like I said, she is amazing.
She is divine. And it was so nice sitting down with her to talk to her about her experience
and how she felt and feels about Jimmy. Let's get into it. Guys, we have the absolutely divine
Carly on the podcast today. And last night, actually, it wasn't last night for you who
were listening to this, but technically we're recording this on Thursday. So for us, it was
last night last night we saw her spectacular set of teeth leave the mansion and i am very sad to
see the end of them carly welcome to life on cart oh thanks guys i'm so happy to be here
these are my teeth okay i have some really important questions that i want to ask you
like we want to know all about your bachelor experience but my most important question is
who is your dentist can confirm i have had these teeth my whole life oh i don't know if i trust her
They're real.
They're genuine.
They're real.
They're my teeth.
They're not fake.
They are spectacular.
Honestly, every single time you were on the screen, I was like,
are you looking at her teeth?
Are you just mesmerised by her mouth?
I want to be inside it.
And we've got you on Zoom, and I think they've gotten whiter since the show.
I haven't done anything else.
They're just my teeth.
No, I was one of those geeky kids with braces, so I was lucky.
Well, all the hard work paid off.
But, Carly, I want to know something.
you are way too normal for reality tv and i mean that in the kindest most like lovely way i truly
do i'm not saying that you were boring on the screen by any means you were just so normal can
you explain to me why did you sign up for the show what was it about the bachelor that made you think
yeah i want to be on a reality tv show hey i can ask you guys the same question oh no we're a few
sandwiches short of a picnic carly we have proven that since our show finished look to be honest i
think I kind of like I'm in my 30s and I'm still single and clearly what I've been doing hasn't
worked so far or I'm just going about it wrong and I think I got to a point after a breakup about 18
months ago that I was like I need to shake some shit up I need to change what I'm doing I need to
have a break from work and I need to really focus on love hey why not The Bachelor it's a franchise
that's actually dedicated to love so hopefully this will be helpful so it was just like me going
what's left tinder sucks bumble sucks you just get really mediocre people on there i feel
oh that's a really that's amazing to say but i just felt like no offense taken well i was gonna
say if you came to bondi and you were on tinder you may have run into jimmy on there because what
we've heard from a few other girls is that he was definitely on the tinder trap prior to being on
the bachelor i know i think i must have i think i've just exhausted the melbourne dating pool so
maybe i should have just moved states that might have been easier or you just like extend your
radius and area and just gets wider and wider and wider until it extends to the whole of Australia
and 60 year old men you're like there is still nobody left you get to that point on the search
where it's like there is no one left in your area exactly exactly hey um I was curious to know
like a lot of people apply for reality tv without having much of a career whereas you are very smart
you're a corporate lawyer how did that work with like asking your employer for permission did you
have to do that to go on the show my work is actually really amazing so my firm is really
small and I've been there a million years and my bosses are also some of my closest friends
so when I thought about going through this process I went to my one of my best friends
slash boss and said hey I'm thinking I want to do this I'm just going to go through the process
I'll keep you updated and let's see how it goes and they were both so supportive like fair enough
you need to do something if you're feeling like you're stuck in a rut and you need to do something
like you go and have an adventure so they were incredibly supportive so I was lucky that their
firm probably couldn't operate without me forever so they're like yep you do what you need to do in
the short term so we know you'll come back and you'll be happy what was I'm sorry Carly I'm just
letting you know Matt's just run off to go get Lola because she's crying in the bedroom so she's
going to join us on this zoom call right now so for anyone if you're listening to this and you
hear some baby gurgling it's not Matt it seems like you had a bit of an idea of what the show
might be like or you had you know you had hopes for what it could provide for you and that being
a man but did the experience match up to what your expectations were or was it vastly different to
what you thought it was going to be? Without having like I couldn't really have any expectations
because how do you prepare yourself for this right but it was kind of what I expected but I didn't
really expect much because I couldn't I know that doesn't make much sense but I just I loved it like
I kind of just threw myself into it and just tried to be as malleable and go with the flow
as possible and I think if you're happy just to go with the process yeah I think by not having
expectations that is what made it so fun I didn't put any structure around it didn't expect to find
love but obviously I was hoping for it and I didn't expect to be perceived a particular way
or I just didn't go in with expectations so I think that's why I enjoyed it so much I'm always
so amazed that some people on night one just seem so comfortable in the setting of The Bachelor like
I remember the very first time I was on set I sucked I was so bad I wonder if it's the same
with you on your season that you know when you walk up the red carpet no one really tells you
anything except there's going to be someone standing there at the end of the carpet they
don't tell you that there's lights there's producers there's cameras there's a big boom
as well with the camera sweeping around like for me I was a deer in the headlights whereas you
you seem so fine and chill with it all i don't know i did feel comfortable so i was in the first
limo and i was the third girl out so i was sitting in the limo by myself two of the girls had already
gone before me and so i could kind of see what was happening with jimmy and i could broadly see his
outline i couldn't see his face or anything and i was just like yeah this is cool i just want to
actually embrace this and like take a second to look around and enjoy it i don't know i didn't
feel nervous or anything I was just too excited and I was just ready to start so I don't know
again I just went with it. Did you struggle with jealousy at all in the house I think one of the
things that I struggled with the most was this feeling of as much as you know what's going on
with the other girls feeling like you have to share that person that you're forming a really
deep connection with how did you cope with that? I don't know how but I just didn't feel jealous I
think everyone in the house was so different like we were like collectively we actually were
really smart and independent successful women so I think I was just like I think I could just see
the different aspects in different women that I knew I didn't have but I knew I could never compete
with either I just tried to stay in my own lane and go this is me and if Jimmy wants to get to
know me and loves me awesome if he actually has a different taste that's okay I can't change that
what kind of relationship is it going to be if I've forced a guy who's actually not that into
me to be with me so I just kind of wanted to be me and stick to me and not really peg myself
against the rest because like there was no point in doing that see I told you she was way too normal
for reality tv you don't you don't belong here you don't even have a streak of crazy what are
you doing Carly but I think that's that's what people love though like it's you know I think
and I'm not just trying to pass your ego because we're talking to you now but you know you were
an absolute fan favorite everybody is so devastated that you've left like everybody
was rooting for you yeah i think if you've seen social media and i know that you guys have kind
of had social media taken away from you but the overwhelming conversation that was happening in
our facebook group and also like on our instagram was like carly is the wifey and everyone was just
devastated that you were let go last night let go it sounds like you were fired sorry there's no
more room left at this employment we're making some people redundant yeah completely evicted
yeah I know I have seen stuff online obviously it's hard not to see it I've had friends
screenshotting things and whatnot but it's so overwhelming like I'm kind of a bit like why do
people care about me so much I don't understand I didn't do anything it was just me it's so
overwhelming but it's so nice I did not expect it at all like you know obviously you go into this
knowing that you're going to have some kind of media presence for a short period of time and you
have to I guess prepare yourself for that because you have no idea what that's going to look like
but I didn't expect everyone to be so nice I thought there'd be some you know some trolls
hating on me just trained to be aware of that you didn't just expect everyone to be so nice though
it's it's really overwhelming it's so yeah it's really special you've truly had like the most
unique experience when it comes to reality tv i have never interviewed one other person not one
who has ever said everyone was just so nice it was so great usually they're like ah my mental
health is rapidly declining god i've been living inside my apartment and never left self-imposed
lockdown but carly last night on the episode where it was your hometowns it was such a beautiful
hometown like matt and i watched it and we thought they really tried to try and throw in some jeopardy
with your brother and then when it cut to your brother actually talking he was like the sweetest
man that's ever walked the planet what was it like watching back your hometown and watching back
something that would have been a really emotional time for you it was emotional watching it back
thankfully I had seen some photos some publicity photos ahead of time so I'd kind of gone through
the emotional roller coaster before I watched it last night I was laughing I was smiling I was
crying I kind of had a bit of everything last night watching my brother for me was the funniest
because my brother is the best like he's such an awesome guy but yeah he's totally protective of
me and he just doesn't expect or he just wants nothing less than perfect for me so just to see
him being like hmm I'm like yeah that's him a bit he's actually much nicer than that as soon as he
opened his mouth he was just like well Jimmy it's lovely to see you you seem like a very pleasant
man and I wish you all the best and it was just like this is so perfect but I think that's why
people were a little bit confused watching it because you know there was a few others of the
remaining women they did have a lot of jeopardy with their hometowns and yours was so perfect so
people were kind of thinking like was jimmy trying to protect you maybe like because you guys
obviously had a really great connection that you know out of respect he wanted to send you home
early to to try and maybe not give you heartbreak later on i like that you're trying to be like
jimmy's just such a nice guy it's not his fault like look at you sticking up for bachelor love
be jimmy jimmy is such a nice guy i love jimmy in a platonic way that is a quote for daily mail
carly loves jimmy i think when you're in that position it's so easy to be resentful it's so
easy to feel like you have been led astray or you've been led to believe something that's not
true and i think from the friends that i had on our season when you go home straight after hometowns
I think it even hits a little bit harder because you're like, I have just brought you in to meet
my family. And you almost feel like your family has been pitted against everybody else's family
at the same time. It's no longer just you. Did you feel resentful when, when it came to that
rose ceremony and Jimmy sent you home, were you expecting it? Were you confused? Like talk me
through how you felt at that time. I definitely wasn't resentful and I knew it had nothing to do
with my family. And it wasn't a reflection on his time with my family because my family's amazing.
like they're awesome and like they really are and so I knew like nothing bad happened so you know
it's not like my dad got the shotgun out or anything like it's not like he was like
but he did after that so Jimmy you're never coming back to the morning peninsula
but it was weird like I had a couple of days obviously between hometowns and the rose ceremony
and in that time that's when things got super weird for me like this chirpy toxic positivity
Carly like she left the building and like I was really struggling I was like emotional for like
a few days straight and I couldn't work out why I was like oh is it because this bubble has burst
now like you know he's in my family now it's all real and it's had this weird feeling in the pit
of my stomach so then when it got to the the rose ceremony when I didn't receive that rose I was
kind of like oh I feel like this is my intuition that was trying to tell me something or or weak
and you know you can only really think about intuition in hindsight I reckon but it all kind
of made sense and I was actually like not totally cool with it but I was obviously really sad but I
was like oh yeah I understand this and I'm content with this because there's been something in my
stomach too that hasn't been sitting well with me so maybe there was something missing for me and I
was just working that out too I don't know but the weird week had kind of made it feel a lot easier
able to deal with I think. When you think back to your connection with Jimmy on the show were you in
love? No I wasn't in love and he knows that I would I definitely had strong feelings for him
he's such an awesome guy and I think our lives would have really worked well together I think
we had a lot of similar similarities we both felt so comfortable being ourselves with each other but
maybe it's because I'm in my 30s I felt like I had a lot to think about before I would be able
to love him like in my 20s I'd be like oh my god I love you you're amazing and you know you fall
pretty hard but I was thinking about family about my job how would that work like how would we work
being in different states I think I had a lot of things that I wanted to like process in my own
head before I knew that I could fully love him and I just wasn't at that stage yet so I wasn't
completely heartbroken when he sent me home because I wasn't completely in love with him just yet
it's also really difficult as well I think like when you are in your 30s and you have kind of
lived you've lived a life you've had the failed relationships you've had the really big loves
and then you've you've been heartbroken you kind of know what that feels like when that is very real
it's almost a little bit more challenging for the producers to break you and to get you to really be
in that all encompassed in love because you're a bit too aware of it you know and not because
you're aware of the production side of things when I say it I mean you're a bit too aware of
your own emotions you're a bit too sensible for it one thing I wanted to ask you and it's something
that I know from my experience and my friendship with Florence who was on my season and Florence
went home at the same time that you did and she sort of said to me the very real thing was as
soon as I was outside of the mansion as soon as I was away from all of the cameras and the girls
and the intensity of it it made me realize that as much as I thought Matt was amazing it was very
obvious to me that he wasn't the right person for me did you have that same feeling did you have that
same sort of like almost like revelation once leaving the mansion. Once I left the experience
I think I had that I didn't have that around hometown time though I think after I left thinking
back he's amazing but I just don't think we're actually on the same page mentally he's so
intelligent and he's so emotionally intelligent he's all the things but I think that little age
gap that we had actually also resulted in a bit of another gap for us I think I just don't think
we were at the same like the exact same stage as some of the others. Going back to like being in
the mansion and the whole experience and living in there how did you find it living with the girls
like how did you find because that's the that's the biggest part the day-to-day being around this
group of girls who you've never met before and you're all so different and some of you have
never even lived at a home before like how did you deal with that? It's weird because I live by
myself I've got my quirks I you know do everything by myself but I actually really enjoyed being in
those bunk beds it was like such a weird experience awful well I didn't enjoy the bed exactly that was
like terrible sleep after terrible sleep after terrible sleep I truly hope that the art department
had got you some new beds because ours all creaked so anytime someone rolled over it was like
no one was getting lucky so exactly I know I was on the top bunk above Holly and like every time I
need to go to the loo or whatever like the whole thing would shake and she's like no I really
enjoyed it because it was such a weird thing yeah you saw I stayed out of all the shit I just wasn't
interested in it so I was friendly with everyone I obviously had my close friends like Holly and I
like this still and like I became really close with Tani and Lily too we had our little girl
gang and I was really close with Ash so I just like gravitated towards certain people but like
I just loved the fact that I didn't have my phone I didn't have my laptop I wasn't required to work
for 10 weeks or whatever it was so I just kind of embraced it as much as I could in that weird way
like I didn't let the mess of the kitchen bother me because it wasn't worth it I just used the gym
used the jacuzzi read Harry Potter for the first time in my life I just tried to embrace the
weirdness of it and just go with it because I knew that normal life would happen again really soon
I'd handle any kind of issues or conflicts that I had just by talking about them internally and
I'd make sure I'd say hi to everyone in the morning and made it you know make sure that
everyone felt included by doing that I managed to stay out of all of the shit which was really nice
but yeah like I just hang out with Holly it was great did you find that the drama that happened
in-house was indicative to what we saw on screens or do you think that because like sometimes
some things can be wildly inflated you watch it back on tv and you're like that didn't happen
that was nowhere near as bad and then other things you might see and you go wow that felt so much
worse at the time than how it's been portrayed do you think what we saw in regards to the drama
between the girls and the way that those sort of riffs happened in the house was portrayed
accurately i think it was pretty accurate i remember leaving the experience and being like
oh that wasn't pretty that wasn't very dramatic i don't know how they're going to make it dramatic
like not much happened but when i actually think about it yeah like obviously the c-bomb thing
happened obviously the family dinner thing happened but I think in my mind there was so
many more things that happened that the amount of drama was actually diluted a lot by all the
good stuff with Holly for example I would I was obviously only privy to conversations I'd have
with Holly because people weren't talking negatively about her to me so I didn't ever
experience those conversations and like you know people can have their opinions and but I guess I
never saw all of that because I was just I don't know if I was oblivious or what when leaving it
just all those things just didn't seem that big at the time yeah and I think also a big thing as
well as a lot of that stuff happens at the beginning and the longer you stay it feels like
oh that was so long ago I can't even remember that then you watch it back on tv and you're like
holy shit that did happen where did that girl go I haven't seen her in so long yeah maybe that's it
have you started dating again or what is happening in the dating world of Carly right now
there is nothing happening I haven't started dating again but that's not because I don't
want to it's just I guess lockdown but I want to start dating obviously channel 10 we have a
bachelorette here and ready and waiting oh man that's becoming a thing it's crazy would you do
it I think about it I've been interviewed about that a bit today and I kind of like in speaking
with like my girlfriend last night we're like maybe the angle of having someone in their 30s
be that person is a good thing like maybe people actually want to see like established people find
love rather than these people in their 20s who might not stay together so there'd be a lot more
riding on it because of my age I think but I think I don't know if I ever got the knock on the door
I'd think about it the reason why Matt and I are so invested in it is because we have seen it work
it worked for us it literally changed our lives and yeah prior oh my god now Marley's working up
hold on now you get to meet her as well hello Marley did you just wake up from your sleep
she did Carly's here doing this interview now one of us Matt's got Lola and I've got Marley
who is it that you've remained friends with out of the house I've got a pretty tight little girl
gang actually so there's four of us who literally speak all day every day so obviously Holly she's
still my bestie and Tani and Lily so the four of us are thick as thieves so when lockdown's done
I'll be able to see Tani and Lily again and hopefully see Holly eventually when we can
travel but yeah love them and I don't think any of us could have gotten through all of this
without each other they're absolute legends I love them so much do you think Tani was a little
bit hard done by and how her story came to an end because we didn't get the opportunity of speaking
to Tani and I feel like we didn't get to see a lot of her on our screens and then she left in
what seemed like a very dramatic and if you guys can't remember it was a it was like a fight
between whether Tani was telling the truth or Jay was telling the truth and it kind of Jimmy had to
pick a side in this unfortunately Tani was sent home do you feel like she was a little bit hard
done by in that situation yeah I really do Tani is an incredible person and yeah we didn't really
get to see too much of her on the show but she is amazing she's got an epic resting bitch face but
underneath that she isn't and she'll say that too but underneath she is an absolute angel she's
really thoughtful and she's really considerate and she's really wise and measured so Tani is not a
liar she really isn't so I do trust that Tani did hear something I didn't hear anything myself so I
can't comment on whether the rumors are true or anything like that but if Tani heard something I
I don't like she wouldn't have lied it's just not in her character to lie like we've said loads of
time guys like we're not out here to try and unleash the dirt or anything but also you can
hear things differently in those sorts of situations whether or not you relay the message
exactly as the message was originally said or with the same tone or intention like who knows
but Carly enough about Tani, Tani's not here. Carly tell me what's in store for you now like
what is next for Carly? Oh it's kind of life as normal now I think back to work kicking goals at
work and being a lawyer again just getting over this crazy roller coaster and I don't know we'll
see like yeah i'll be out dating when i can again i have no idea but i'm looking forward to whatever's
next because i think something good will happen i don't know what it is but it will it's called
the bachelorette yeah it'll be on next year at around september carly thank you so much for
taking the time to interview with us today i honestly mean it you are literally the most
normal lovely pleasant person that has ever been on a reality tv show you have fantastic teeth they
are even better over zoom and you've just been a delight to interview and i'm very sorry about my
wild children. Lost Maddie J in the interim of that interview. No, thank you so much, Laura.
It's been fun. And thanks, Maddie J, briefly, wherever you are. Well, I wasn't there for the
interview, so I can only assume that it went really well. Laura, I mean, you're looking at
me with a smile on your face, so I think you're happy with that, right? Thank you very much for
taking the children and allowing us to push on in the face of chaos. We managed to do it. Because
that's what parents do we divide and conquer is it divide and conquer who even knows the apple
never falls far from the pair divide anyway guys we hope you enjoyed this little bonus episode like
we said we like brit and i will be back on tuesday we'll be back on thursday and then matt and i will
be back on friday last chance are you sure you don't want me to do a bonus episode by myself
tomorrow about what i don't know who knows oh i'm very frightened by this who knows what i'll talk
about i mean the world is my oyster you know the drill tell your mom tell your dad tell your sister
and your brother and your mom and your friend down the road and share the love because we love
did you just do it normal for once one two three
We'll be right back.
