Life Uncut - Bondi, Our Hearts Are Broken

Hey guys, Britt and Laura here. This is obviously not a normal episode that we're coming to you with today and that is because at 6.40 last night, as we're sure you're all aware, there was a terror attack in Bondi Beach on our Jewish community. We wanted to come here today to just firstly let you know that we're all safe and our family are safe and we feel so lucky in that sense, but there are many people that are not and we wanted to just let you know that there is going to be a change of schedule this week? I mean, we had content recorded for Ask Uncut, of course, and then when all this unfolded, I mean, there was just,

there's no way we were going to release an episode today. No. We also understand and don't want to release an episode tomorrow. It just, it feels almost dystopian to be having our normal conversations when all of this is happening. We are so behind our Jewish community. We are so behind everybody who has been affected by this. the whole of Bondi is, I mean, it's one of the amazing things about Bondi is how much everyone

comes together, but right now it is broken and everyone is just trying to figure out what has actually happened and how this happened. The Bondi community itself is obviously so tight and the Jewish community within Bondi is even tighter. And it would be hard to be in Bondi and not know somebody that is not involved in this in some capacity. And I just feel like there has been this horrific ripple through the community and through Australia. And it's just unfathomable to think that this is happening in our own backyard. One thing I really do want to highlight in this absolute atrocity is just the people that have come out, the absolute heroes that were running towards danger, like the civilians, the first responders, the lifeguards, the police,

the ambulance that really showed up and put their own lives in danger and some of them lost their lives because of that. I think it's really important that we highlight these people in that moment. And a 43-year-old Muslim man, Ahmad al-Ahmad, is the absolute hero of this situation. And if you guys have not somehow seen the video footage of him, maybe you don't want to, but it's truly incredible.

He single-handedly runs at one of the shooters, disarms him, takes his gun and I just, the bravery that that must have taken and the number of lives that he would have saved because of that moment is hard to think about really. But I just think it's really important at a time that we just don't talk about, you know, you don't want to give more time to the terrorists, but I think it's really important that we highlight those people at this time as well. That act was such an act of immense bravery, but there is so much devastation that has come out of this. So many people have lost their lives and we are very conscious about, we're not a news podcast, we're very conscious about giving details as this is

changing and evolving and the landscape of this has changed so much from when we were on the phone to each other to what has come out this morning. So if you guys have listened to the podcast for a while you know that Britt and I, we live in Bondi, we were both at home when this all happened. And like there is so much information that's coming out at the moment, not just on the news, but when you are centred there, it's the WhatsApp groups, it's the videos, it's what's circulating on social media.

It's people running down the street. It's really, really full on. And I think everyone is processing what has happened. And our job and what we love to bring to you is the banter and the laughs and we know that having those conversations are just not possible at this time so the reason for this is to give you kind of a bit of an understanding around what's happening this week we do have a great interview episode that's still going to be coming out on Friday with Logan Urie the reason for that is because that was pre-recorded we've also done a lot of

pre-records for what is happening in the end of the year so like coming into the new year for our holiday season content so I kind of wanted to let you guys know that that's already been pre-recorded because I just don't feel like we can go from what's just happened in our community to turn around and be like, and now we have our year in review. No, and that's for the content for the rest of this year and early into next year. So all of our holiday content has been recorded now

and the tone of that will not reflect what has happened in the recent life events. So it's just important that you guys know that that was recorded ahead of time this week. It is literally impossible to bring you any kind of content at the moment for very obvious reasons. But on Friday, as Laura said, we will have the wonderful Logan Urie. And on Monday, we will have an Ask Uncut,

People are finding out that their family members or people that they love have been injured or hurt in this absolute atrocity and finding out via social media is just the most horrific way. So please be conscious about what you're sharing and, yeah, just continue the outpouring of love for Bondi and the community.
