Life Uncut - Is Kanye Sorry... Or Selling An Album?
Episode Date: February 3, 2026Hey Lifers, Britt is brimming with salmon…sperm. Welcome to your Wednesday! We’ve been nominated for an AACTA and Britt’s planned outfit is giving Chapel Roan at the Grammy’s b...ut sheer on the other end.Britt’s received a particularly strange gift from Ben and she wasn’t sure whether she should be offended or be grateful for it’s practicality.Laura’s daughter Marlie Mae has been so brave and decided to busk on the busy streets of Noosa. She’s been very successful and it’s left Laura wondering if it was a good or a terrible parenting decision. Kanye, now Ye, West has taken out an ad in the Wall Street Journal apologising for antisemetic and racist behaviour. But is it a marketing tactic? We unpack the apology that Ye took out last week and whether the timing is just a bit too convenient for us to think that it’s sincere when he has a new album coming out next month. We also chat about the complexities of conversations like this when it comes to discussing psychiatric illness and being accountable for immense harm and fuelling hate. Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Brittany. I'm Laura. And
I am full of sperm. That's right, Laura. You could say that you're full to the eyeballs.
I am full to the eyeballs of sperm. Now, don't run away. Brittany is brimming with sperm,
everybody. Exactly how you want to start this podcast. I'm not ashamed to say I spermed
up my face yesterday. You shouldn't make me ashamed of that, Laura. No, no, you look glowy
and a little bit, a little bit lumpy. Just like tiny little lumpy. Well, I mean the salmon,
the salmon, it's salmon sperm, everyone. Does that make it better? I'm not sure. How do they
get the sperm out of the salmon? Someone think of the salmon. How did they figure out that that
would work in someone's face? It's like the first person who milked a cow. I always say this. I
always look at cows and think who was the first person to walk into the field and drink from the
other. No, that makes way more sense than salmon sperm. Come on. If you think of a cow in a field.
Jack of the fish. Wow. This is, this is a fun way to start the episode. Welcome to your Wednesday,
everybody. All right. Let me just set the scene here. It was salmon sperm. You might've heard.
It was a dark Tuesday night. We had a romantic dinner. We dimmed the lights. The salmon was
still alive. The salmon was not yet in the air fryer. I got the salmon sperm facial. So Jennifer
aniston was the first person that i heard ever talk about it a few years ago and i think it's
one of those things these kind of things hit hollywood and they seem like they're so extreme
but this quote-unquote salmon sperm facial it's actually called reduran but it has just become
something that you can basically get anywhere it's not like a hollywood-esque thing anymore
so you can basically get it anywhere now but i did yeah i got it last night and if you're watching
this and you can see little lumps under my eyes that's what it is to be fair it's not as lumpy
as I thought it was going to be.
So I've seen some people get it and then they have to wear glasses
the next day because they are like it's a bit of a train wreck.
But you, thanks.
Glowy.
I recovered well.
I asked my face.
Yeah, so I think it works.
It's actually the second time I've had it.
It's not the first time.
But I don't usually get it three hours before a record.
Britt, is there ever a time where there's no downtime?
Because like last week you just peeled your face off.
That was for skin cancer.
I know, I know.
And it just happened to also have an aesthetic bonus.
My question though is, is like sometimes the frequency of treatments means that there's
not really much time to enjoy the glow because we're straight into the next thing.
Well, that is not criticism.
I will be back there once I'm not breastfeeding, guys.
I'm going to blast my face into the stratosphere.
You wait.
No.
So what I got done is to counteract what I just did with this pre-skin cancer peel because
that like annihilates your face.
So you have to rejuvenate more sperm.
It re-plumps, re-puts hydration in.
It's like a collagen boosting thing.
in it. So it's just more a bit of a refresh after what I just did. But having said that,
I would have done it anyway. I really want to know like why salmon? Like why not a brim?
Why not a goldfish? I think it's the protein in it. Why not a bear? I want diversity in my
rejuvenation. Why not my husband's? Like I want to know why a fish? Like where did that come from?
Well, Brittany's like, I can't tell you. I was trying to think of something that made me sound
smart. Jennifer Aniston did it and that's all I need in my life. Yeah, well she's my hall pass.
hey can we just like switch to the grammys for a second did you see our boy i say our boy alex
warren laura tell me you saw i know if you haven't seen him perform at the grammys you need to go and
watch it i didn't see his performance however i did see the reel that he created that's gone viral
where he was like when you're performing at the grammys and this is all you hear so his feedback
loop wasn't working no that's what i'm talking about that's why you need to have seen it so i
didn't I didn't actually see the performance I only heard the actual audio of what he could
hear in his ears which was like an echo of him singing yeah he was like it was the most
fucked experience ever he just I mean we love him here we've done a little mini interview with him
before but he walked out and think like the Grammys if there's ever a place to fuck up the
audio for music sorry the Grammys should be the people that have it absolutely dialed so he's
walking out singing from backstage and he starts to walk through the crowd and these are like
the who's who of music, of the music industry and Hollywood. And he starts walking out and then you
can see this little panic on his face for a second. And he's supposed to be singing, walking
through the audience and making his way to the stage where he like levitates and floats up into
the air and finishes the song. And it is all phenomenal. But at the start you see him a bit
flustered, but he's still singing. Then he's taking his earpiece out and he's putting it in.
And it was like, everyone was like, something is not right, but he does not falter. Then he starts
singing he's off beat so every word he's saying he's singing it like the one second delay he's
singing to the delay yes he's singing to the delay and you can the poor thing you can everyone knows
right something is not right but he doesn't skip a beat takes it out again realizes he's a second
delay catches himself up back and but it's almost flawless gets up to the stage levitates finishes
it and you can see his face is really sad like he's like thank you and he's sad because he's
like it's his big moment it's also in front of all your peers who are all really successful and
you're like i cocked it up i know but then he did this reel on his page you can go and look and it's
just a five second rule it's like fucking when you get to sing in front of the grammys and this is
what you hear and it is how he did what he did once you hear the double play and then you go
back and watch his performance you are like you are a goat you are the goat he is actually
incredible like i have such a soft spot for him you guys will remember like that was the first
concert we ever took marley to last year we went to his concert he is amazing but not only is he
an amazing singer he's so freaking funny like the way he speaks verse the way he sings he has this
like really deep like and he's not i was gonna say manly but he's like 22 but he's where it was
really deep like right like husky beautiful voice and then when he speaks he's like hello everybody
it's so weird and it's hello today i'm having a good day he's got an accent i can't do it i'm not
even going to attempt the accent but it wasn't a leprechaun it sounds like that no it doesn't
yes it does anyway okay look also very briefly because i have only been across what i've seen
from the grammys on social media like i've not done a deep dive you didn't you weren't there
guys i didn't get invited this year so weird and also just four months postpartum couldn't find a
dress too stressed to get dressed same i was also busy so busy so busy chapel roan wearing her i
don't even know what we call it nipple rings i know and i want it the feminist in me wants to
be like yeah go queen but there's this part of me that's like have we gone too far i don't know i
think it's great she looked amazing i love fashion love it but i didn't get that no i do you know
what i loved about it i loved it because she didn't have nipples because she like whited out
her nipples so her nipples were exactly the same color as her body because we're not offended by
skin right we're not offended by men's flatness and skin it's the nipple it's the areola that
makes us really offended so she whited that out and then she just like attached if you haven't
seen it I'm sure you have she attached her fabric to the nipple rings and really for me it gave me
this moment where I was like that is me anytime anyone comes to the house now because I'm so used
to having my tits out that I walk to the door and answer the door with just like bits of cloth
covering my nipples and I think that I'm being modest. No, all I could think about was I was
like, as she was walking, I was like, don't step on your dress, don't step on your dress,
don't step on your dress. It gave me like wild anxiety because it would have ripped her nipples
out. Like think of how many, my heels get stuck in my dress all the time. Or when you were walking
a red carpet or something. And someone else steps on your dress. Someone else steps on your dress.
Imagine being that person who stepped on Chapel Roan's dress on the red carpet. Imagine being
Imagine the person responsible for Chapel Roan losing a nipple.
Imagine that was you.
That was what you were known for.
I like the confidence, though.
I do.
There's part of me that's like, you have to be so brave, bold, and beautiful.
Like, you are so confident.
Go off, queen.
Hear me out.
I wish I could have that confidence as well.
Now, Laura and I are going to the Actor Awards in two days' time.
And you want to wear a nipple dress.
I don't know if I'm going.
We have to talk about it.
I don't know.
I just RSVP'd you and I ordered you in two dresses express.
It's not confirmed. It is a lot with a baby and trying to make decisions three days out.
It's a lot.
I've made the decision. You're going.
I don't know if it's possible to get a dress in this time.
She's ordered you a nipple dress.
We've got nipple tassels on their way. Express postage.
I have her two dresses coming in two different colors, in two different sizes.
It's coming. It's here. And we've RSVP'd. You're coming.
We can talk about this off mic.
Anyway, my question is the dress that I last minute picked up. Now,
we originally weren't going to be able to go. So it's two days away and we've decided
to try to go well I have apparently Laura's pulled out thanks that sounds about right I'll go on my
own so it was really hard to get dresses obviously last minute so I went and there can I just
interrupt one second there is a discussion in this around like your parent friend always
cancelling yeah you and Mitch Chury and Mitch Chury doesn't have kids but the dress that I
got the only dress that I went to my beautiful wedding designer Stephen Khalil and I said
it's two days away do you have something available that would fit me and he was like of course come
in had this dress that I could try now it is transparent at the buttock oh you got your butt
out well yes do you go g-string or full brief that's the question so I tried it on with the
g-string and it was as much as I was like oh do I just do it like everyone else is doing it Chapel
Rowan's doing it but then I just don't think I can I think I'm gonna get like suck-ins high-waisted
briefs like full brief the only thing about a see-through dress and I'm all for it but the
see-through dress looks less see-through on the red carpet it's in the photos that things look
more see-through because as soon as that there's a flash or the lighting changes or whatever
it just really makes your buttocks and breasts looks more like orb like like it really highlights
that area where the fabric is stretched at all yeah well the whole dress isn't see-through but
it's just like us it's like um I don't know how to explain it what a design it's just sort of
Intentional detail to only make the arse see-through.
I know, but I was sort of into it.
I was like, and I said it to Ben, I said, I would never normally wear this.
Should I just do it?
And he's like, whatever you want, babes.
Oh, my God.
That just made me think.
You sound like my mum just then.
Wow.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
That just made me think of something funny at Christmas time.
Now, I'm going to take you back a little bit.
At Christmas time, Ben and I had said we were not going to get each other presents.
Oh, this old chestnut.
He's fallen down that trap before.
we actually said we weren't and by all accounts i mean we ended up yes getting something a little
for each other but anyway we said we weren't going to get each other presents but then christmas
day comes and mitch jury's there with his partner steven and all of ben's family is there so his mom
and his dad and his sister and her husband and the whole gang and they're all doing their with
secret santa presents and then ben's like i got you a present and i was like ben babe you
so silly we said we weren't going to do presents except for the fact that i don't want to remind
you but many months ago you guys both decided that you weren't going to buy presents and then
you reamed ben on this podcast for several weeks because he didn't get you anything a that was two
years ago b it's called content i understand but like the the guy listened he was like this is a
trap this is a relationship trap from britney and i know not to listen to her and what i will say is
I also got him a little present as well but anyway so I was like babe you shouldn't have done that we
said we weren't going to do it and he's like well I wanted to get you something and I I know you'll
love it and I loved it for you and I was like okay great so he gives me it's in two he gives me one
and it and it is cute I've already put it on my Instagram if you've seen it it's just a hat that
says dog mom on it it was really cute and I was like babe that's really cute thank you and then
he's like and he's like I thought this would go really well with it I was like okay he's like
you're gonna look great and I was like great I was like okay I was like what have I told him I want
or need or like because he was really honing in on it anyway so I opened the present and I
I look at it and I'm so confused and I was like oh thank you what was it looking at me like
I really chuffed like and I pulled up and I was like oh you you got me a contour suit
What's a contour suit?
Like Spanx.
He got me Spanx.
He got me Spanx.
The guy got me Spanx.
Full legs.
Legs.
Full legs.
Sucked in.
Full body.
Why?
And like a one piece.
One piece Spanx.
With shorts.
One piece.
Or with the G-string or like how?
One.
No, full shorts.
Full shorts.
That's the type of Spanx I wear.
The ones that goes up to your eyeballs.
Like it's from your knees to your eyes.
I don't need salmon sperm.
I just contour up, munch in, all the way up.
Hey, guys, I think it'd look great on you.
And I was fucking like, what?
I was like, why do you want a contour?
And I was just so confused.
And he's like, I think you could wear it together as well.
Like he put so much thought in it.
I was like, thanks, baby.
I was like, I didn't know that I didn't really need a contour like a Spanx.
And he's like, what do you mean?
And I was like, well, this is like a, it's like a suck in, suck you in.
It's an undergarment.
It's an undergarment that sucks you in black.
And he was like, what do you mean?
And I said, well, this is, everyone was in hysterics.
His sister was in hysterics.
Everyone's dying.
And I was like, I also would never wear this with my hat that he bought me.
And he was like, he goes, hang on.
I thought it was a Pilates suit.
I thought you could wear it to Pilates.
I said, babe, it has a wee hole in it.
You stretch the groin and you can piss out of it.
So you don't miss any Pilates.
It was so fun.
I nearly died.
He was like, oh, I saw it online and thought, oh, Brit loves Pilates.
Brit will love that.
I know.
Do you know what?
To be fair, everyone, no, I shouldn't say everyone needs a pair of Spanx.
I'm going to get cancelled.
That's how Laura got cancelled.
I do like Spanx.
Everyone doesn't need a pair of Spanx, but it's a handy thing to have in your wardrobe.
I love a pair of Spanx.
You could wear it under your sheer dress.
Yeah, you could wear your Spanx underneath.
Now you won't have your bum out at the actors.
It was more, it was more the fact, yes, I have Spanx.
Everyone loves Spanx.
And it's, it's, it's not just like to suck you in.
It's also to smooth when you need to like smooth it out.
Okay.
Sometimes it's hard, right?
sometimes it is hard to be politically correct because even then I was like everyone loves not
everyone loves space some people don't I know oh I don't mind being unpolitically correct anymore
I think Chapel Rowan's dress at the Grammys was the tackiest thing I've ever seen yeah well but
like I it's you know what we actually are going to get into a bigger conversation in this podcast
episode which kind of will touch on this theme a little bit I want to be politically correct like
I don't want to offend anyone yeah but I think that sometimes I'm so hyper conscious of not
wanting to offend anyone that I find myself like instantly editing myself as I say it like me
saying oh everyone loves a pair of Spanx my instant thought was is that fat shaming should
I have said that I don't mean for it to be fat shaming not everyone loves it some people don't
and sometimes that's an exhausting place to always be in this hyper vigilance anyway I know that's a
detour guys but like that is sometimes how we feel in this podcast that's okay I'm sure when
Joseph Pilates created Pilates what he thought of was someone wearing Spanx that had a wheel
that was what he envisioned i'm sure also i'm pretty sure that he's been found to be quite
problematic himself so many so many pilates founders bikram yoga terrible man for any of
these things terrible guy confusing the two of them maybe that's defamation yeah probably
start again wait why am i cancelled from why how did i get cancelled because you're wearing the
spanks all right cancel britney as well but the other part of the present was it was just an
unusual thought but the other part of the present was 15 pairs of the exact same black g-string
like you can't ride it 15 the man knows what he wants and he buys it in bulk and I was like
was there a sale on how have you not told me we're in February I just want to remind you how have you
not told me what you got for Christmas like how has this not come up thus far because we've only
done one episode so far and I just wanted to save it. Are people going to think that we recorded
this like in December or we recorded this like a month ago? No, this is still, are you wearing one
of the 15? I think I am. Every day of the week. 15 black Spanx. I don't think you're ever going
to wear a different pair of G-string. Did he say why? Is it his preferred pair of G-string or was
it just a bolt by? No. So he knows I am. I think I've said on the podcast before, I'm really bad
for not updating my underwear.
I have the oldest, scabbiest underwear.
It's changed colour to like an off grey in the wash.
You know when you have a – you know you like your undies.
You know what works.
They're comfy.
You have them for like 15 years.
I really want to vouch for Brit on this because I have seen
Brittany's underwear and it is so horrifying.
It's not hot.
Oh, no, I have underwear for 15 years.
Yeah.
Keisha, were you alive then?
You were 15.
Were you born?
I'm so terrible.
But 15 years?
I have a pair of underwear that I only just threw away
and it was easily 13 years old.
This is kind of a question that's related to this
and I was having this conversation with a friend not long ago.
Okay, let's say you buy some sexy lingerie for a particular partner
that you're with and you break up.
Do you reuse the lingerie for the next set of people?
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah?
We reuse, recycle?
100%.
I don't think you're buying lingerie for that person.
You're buying it for yourself.
It's a performance act and you can put that performance act
on again and again.
what happens if they buy the lingerie oh that's fine Keisha you bought my last lingerie yes I did
actually you're only allowed to wear that lingerie for Keisha well we do did you get angry when I
wore it for bed dude okay I have something I want to tell you guys because I have a question
it's kind of a question because I don't know whether it was a parenting fail or whether it
was like we did an amazing job as parents like I'm actually unsure no am I a fucking boss parent
or have I ruined my child well sometimes okay it sounds silly but sometimes there's these things
that happen like you know you'll have an event and you'll be like is this going to set my child
up in a resilient way or did I traumatize them not sure don't know did I create a narcissist
or did I create ambition who knows only time will tell is this the question your mom's been asking
we don't talk about my childhood hang on did I create a narcissist or does she have ambition
okay okay the reason for this is so we were recently in Noosa like last week we're in Noosa
for a couple of days it was my sister-in-law's 40th birthday and we had a family holiday there
and well Matt's family I am part of that family now he's your family it is my family so we went
on his family holiday which I am a part of and as we were walking down Hastings Parade for anyone
who's been to Noosa or hasn't been to Noosa Hastings Parade is like the main street of Noosa
there's so many shops it's always busy there's so many cafes and restaurants like it is just the
only street that's like where people go on holiday because it's right on the beach so we were walking
back from dinner this one night and it was later at night and all the restaurants were packed and
there was quite a few people out on the street busking and there was this one girl in particular
she was sitting right in front of the police station there and it was really busy around her
she had her piano box out so there was lots of coins and money in it and she was playing she
was playing like some taylor swift songs like very kid coded all like teen tween coded and
Marley saw this girl and she was in trance she was like this is amazing what is she doing what is
this where's all the money coming why is she sitting on the street singing songs and people
are giving her money and I was like oh this is called busking like she's a busker and Marley was
like I think I could do that and I was like well we you can't play a piano so probably not that
she was like I could sing on the street and now Marley is she's confident but she's not that
confident so for example we went on a cruise last year and she was like I want to do the karaoke
and they had a karaoke night and we put a name down and her name came up and when it came to
her turn she was like absolutely not so a complete meltdown like was so scared Matt even offered to
get out with her and she was like no no no no no no no no so she has big dreams and big aspirations
for this stuff but she actually gets a bit paralyzed by fear and can't do it she just wasn't
there yet but also that's like being a kid right you think you want to do something and then it
comes to doing it and you're like fuck that that's why people drink alcohol true she's too young
and it's outside the police station i did think it was weird that molly was walking down the street
with an rdl but like yeah a little lemon a little lemon rusky i was like fuck molly already have a
sip of this smirnoff and then and then you will get some courage go for you go my sweetie that's
how i dated welcome to my teens that's why i don't remember dating from my 20s with my smirnoff
double blacks double black member you get drunk twice as fast oh double blacks and that advertising
around double blacks when we were at university was so questionable how did smoonoff get away
with that tastes like lemonade but will fuck you up have you seen that like hard solo yeah it's
delicious i thought the exact same thing though i was like guys we're really we're really treading
this line yeah even molly likes it no i'm joking i remember sorry just one more segue i remember
the only alcohol I could drink for ages when I transitioned from double blacks like when you know
when you transition from being a teenager that's just like rogue and wanting to be drunk to like
I'm actually like mature and drink I really wanted to drink wine because that's what fancy people do
and grown-ups did but I fucking hated it like it was disgusting so I used to buy I could only drink
dessert wine and I would take it with me to the restaurant you know how you take BYU dessert wine
it's syrup it is syrup like I was like they're like do you want this now with your dinner and
i was like crap like a moscato or moscato it's so disgusting i drank that for so long i do think
anyone who drinks smirnoff black is not drinking because they like the taste they're drinking
because they want to get fucked up like that is without a doubt that is the absolute and only
truth when it comes to smirnoff blacks okay so back on track marley saw this basket and she was
like i really want to do that and i was like okay sweetie if you wake up and you want to do that we
can do it tomorrow did not for one second of my life think that Marley would actually want to do
it and like kids say they want to do something by the next day they've forgotten you don't think
she's actually going to remember it forget about it be too scared like all of the above anyway so
we get home that night and she's like singing the one song that she knows from start to finish
without even having to look at like lyrics or anything is his no it's a million dreams from
the greatest showman which I actually kind of want to put a little snippet in because she's
sang it into I was doing some ads on the road the other day and she sang it into the roadcaster so I
have her singing the song have a listen to this
because every night I lie in bed the brightest colors fill my head a million dreams are keeping
me awake I think of what the world could be a vision of the one I see a million dreams
It's all it's gonna take
Oh, a million dreams for the world we're gonna make
Oh, there's thoughts there.
She's got some skill for a six-year-old.
She's six.
Yeah, no, but Adele was six once too.
She's six and she's doing her best, all right.
I feel like I can say that because I'm also tone deaf.
Every time she sings A Million Dreams, I cry though
because the lyrics are so sweet.
and like she's so cute it's just it's just something really special about it yeah I love it
okay so she goes home she's practicing a million dreams and then she was like I can sing a million
dreams I was like well you can't get up on stage and only sing one song like if you're gonna busk
you have to know more songs and that was me trying to like placate her anyway put her off yeah so
she's learning more songs and she's got my phone and she's like got on Spotify how it's got the
lyrics and she's singing them anyway she wakes up the next day and she is pumped she's like mom
today's the day you said I could go busking and so I had to pull Matt aside and I was like
I actually kind of think we have to, if she wants to do this, I think we have to go through
with it.
Like, I think if she's found the bravery to go and stand on the street and bask, I actually
think we're going to be doing her a disservice as parents to tell her that she shouldn't
do that.
Like, this is a moment of, of creating confidence in her.
And Matt was like, I don't have the confidence to stand on the street while Molly barks.
Anyway, so.
Matt's like, she can do it on her own.
Literally, Matt was like, you can take her.
He's like, I can't do this one.
But we did.
We did.
We got her together.
She made a sign that said, Marley's first time busking.
Her first time?
I bless her soul.
Pull on the emotional heartstrings.
Well done, Marley.
She knows how to get them.
Manipulation tactics.
So we walked down the street and her uncle was there and her cousins were there and Lola
was there.
So she had a little crew, support crew.
We walked down Hastings to where the girl was standing the night before, which was right
in front of the police station.
And considering we didn't have a license to busk, that was a very dicey decision.
I was going to ask that.
Don't you need to get permission?
You need to have a busking license.
so this is not me encouraging it but I was like so is Miley still in prison is she out back at
school we use the money that she raised to pay her fines no so we were like people are going to
be forgiving she's six it's an experience she's not out here trying to make a living support her
family or make her way through university I was like she's gonna do four songs someone might give
her five bucks like she might make a couple of dollars it's not a cash economy anymore people
don't carry cash around we weren't there with a little square taking people's paypal anyway
so imagine mom's first time then there was like an f-boss machine so she can't we get down there
and she's like mom i can't i can't i'm too scared i was like okay cool we'll go then because i was
like thank fuck i was like we'll go because i didn't want to stand down on the street and
dramatize the situation i was like either you're doing it or going like we're not hanging around
in 32 degree heat for you to get upset and stressed over whether or not you're going to
sing on the street or not like it's we're not doing that stage mom she's like get up there
make me some money Netflix is on the way start singing Marley anyway she gets up I gave her the
phone because it has the lyrics on it I handed her my phone I put it on high volume and I was like
if you want to sing sing we'll be all here to support you and we walked like a little bit away
from her behind the tree she stood there guys she stood on Hastings parade with a hat out and her
little sign saying Marley May's first time busking and she sang her little heart out and every so
often she would look over at me and I'd be like smile sing louder full stage mum vibes and she
was singing so loud and she was so brave and it was the cutest thing ever and I I was so proud
she sung four songs like from start to finish we were out there for maybe like 20 minutes
but here's the clincher she made 150 dollars she made bank in 20 minutes and she got the smell of
greatness and she was like I can keep going mom look at how much I've made and I was like keep
dancing I was like put some sparkles in there Laura's got like the poppers and she's like
she makes a whole no I was like we must stop we must stop I was like from what went from being
like a confidence building exercise I got bills to pay Laura send it back out yeah I was like now
I think the lesson's been ruined I think we've taught her money is easily made like all you have
to do is stand up and sing four songs and that's a great hourly rate like I don't know do you know
what it was location based you went to like the wealthiest holiday destination street that i can
think of like those people walking down new so they got cash we need to stand out the front of
the house and let her do it for a few hours and she won't make any dollars just be very humbled
until we can we need a humbler down that's what we need to do this one guy walked past and he put
40 in the hat 40 to 20 notes i almost ran back like i was like no we like can i have your name
and contact details i almost ran after him but i wasn't that against it should have said we'll be
down here same time every day anyway she was so brave she did it she was so proud of herself
the thing that I'm like happy about is that she actually isn't that money motivated so like the
money is just sitting I put it into a jar for her and like she wants to buy a kindle so now she's
saving up to buy a kindle but I was like it's great though she's not asked how much she didn't
want to count it I think what she equates the money to is people thinking nothing to me now
I am so rich.
I don't need this.
Look at my hourly rate.
No, I think it's taxed.
She's won 50 for 20 minutes.
I do it for the joy.
I do it for how it helps the people around me.
Only rich people can say that.
Fuck off.
I think she was like so grateful that people didn't think that she was shit
because her biggest fear was like what if no one thinks I'm any good?
What if no one likes me singing?
Then no one will give me money.
So she equates people liking her with receiving money,
which is also an unhealthy lesson.
Very unhealthy.
She sounds like she's getting the validation issues that I've grown up with.
I don't know.
So this is my question.
My question is, is that the right thing to do?
Do you support these?
When kids find something they want to do and they're excited enough to do it,
do you support them at all costs or what is the right way?
Costs?
She made money.
i i think i think you did the right thing the only thing i would say is
maybe people come for me i think you did the right thing i think she's so brave and i think
that's really important in confidence boosting in terms of like you know kids learning to public
speak and just perform and do things that's a really big thing but what i will say is
i wouldn't make a habit of it no no no way no way and that's not against busking like there's
nothing wrong with busking like some of the biggest people and the musicians in the world
like tones and i everyone busts no but the thing is this is why people don't know about busking
because everyone was like you need to get a busking license yes and they're like you've got
to buy a people got really like people love rules okay and people were in the comment section on
matt's video being like you need a busking license you're taking away from the real buskers firstly i
was like my six-year-old doesn't have the stamina firstly four songs we were in and out i was like
all the talent she's not taking away from tones and i on the street no but the thing is to get
a busking license you don't actually i don't think in news you pay for a busking license
it's given on merit you have to be you can't just be a six-year-old giving it a crack you've got to
be a qualified musician who can actually perform so like that's never gonna happen that experience
would never come into fruition if we had to wait for a busking license on our four-day holiday
let's be realistic such a nanny state like let the six-year-old get some like get arrested out
the front of the police station let her break the law and you know what we made it really easy for
the police like if they were going to come for us we we didn't hide we did it in plain sight
they murdered in plain sight i heard it i was really impressed that she did it i would have
given her money if i was there but i would just i would just say that was really fun that's not
something we're gonna do all the time on every because otherwise every holiday you ever go on
she's gonna be down that's at least a place for the holiday put it to work
last week we were sitting in the studio and i was not listening to what was being said i was
scrolling Instagram at the time, which will come as no surprise to anyone. Really got to stop doing
that. No, well, look, I was having my downtime. All right. Yeah, but you're in the middle of a
record. No, this was not a record. No, no, you weren't here. You were overseas. It was when
Keisha and I were doing Ask Uncut. Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. I was like, poor Keisha.
No, no, no, no, no. We were like, we were prepping for these episodes and there was something that
popped up on socials and it honestly stopped me in my tracks. Keisha, you'll remember. I was like,
whoa, this is something we need to talk about. And then we danced around for the last week as
to whether or not we should touch this with a 10-foot pole.
Salmon sperm.
Or it's salmon sperm.
I don't think we want to touch it with your salmon sperm, Britt.
But if you haven't seen it, Kanye, also known as Ye, Kanye West,
that was a learning experience for me this morning.
I thought his name was Ye, but it's Ye.
He has taken out an ad in the Wall Street Journal on January 26,
and that ad is a full-page apology for his actions and his comments
over the last couple of years.
Now, the reason why we kind of like toyed around whether
or not we should talk about this is because, as a lot of you know, and we're going to get
into it, some of his absolutely deplorable behavior, the things that he has said have
been so deeply, disgustingly controversial.
And I know we're going to get into what they actually look like.
But we have talked about Kanye in past years and on past episodes.
And then we've kind of had this blackout period for the last couple of years because his behavior
has been so obscene and it has been so inclined that people have been discussing online that
he's got mental health problems, that maybe he has bipolar, that he's in a manic state that we
were like, you know what? We don't want to touch this. But considering that this apology has come
out now, I think there is so much in this to discuss and we want to do it sensitively. And
this is why it is a really hard one to attack because I'm like, I want to do it with compassion,
but I also want to be able to have the conversation of does having a mental health disorder like
bipolar or being in a manic state completely absolve you of the responsibility of the things
that you do and say when you are in that state, especially if you are a person of huge prolific
status like Kanye West. That's why it's so hard for us to talk about because when you are not
living something or you don't have a full grasp of what someone is going through, when he has
openly said that he has these mental health conditions and he has had a brain injury and
he's had all of these things, it's very hard to then go and comment on something that you don't
absolutely know what someone is going through and if they literally have brain damage. But on the
other hand, exactly like you just said, Laura, does that excuse the abhorrent behavior? Now,
I do want to just remind you guys of some of the things that Kanye has done and said over the last
couple of years. He praised Adolf Hitler with the release of his song titled Hail Hitler. He sold
clothing with the swastika symbols through his clothing company Yeezy. He used pro-Nazi language
in his social media posts and triades. He said literally, quote, there are a lot of things that
I love about Hitler. I'm a Nazi. I love Hitler. He's been dropped from his very lucrative Adidas
partnership and by his talent agency, which I think was very warranted. I think he should
have been dropped by everyone. He also made statements targeting black Americans, such as
claiming slavery was a choice. And he literally put the slogan white lives matter on a t-shirt
and he was selling these shirts and making money from anti-Semitic and racist and bigoted comments.
He's also had huge fallout off the back of this over the last few years. He's lost his contract deal with Adidas. He's obviously been written about in so many different ways across media and across press. But this apology, and there are so many parts of this I want to discuss, but it was in the Wall Street Journal, which I think is an interesting choice.
And it is an incredibly long apology statement. It apologizes to the Jewish community. It
apologizes to the black community. It apologizes to his family and friends. And it also apologizes
to the greater public at large as well for any hurt that he has created or caused. We're going
to read a little bit of it, but I will link this in the show notes. So if you do want to read the
full apology that was taken out in this ad, you'd be able to see it there. To those I've hurt,
25 years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal
lobe of my brain. At the time, the focus was on the visible damage, the fracture, the swelling,
and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed.
Comprehensive scans were not done, neurological exams were limited, and the possibility of a
frontal lobe injury was never raised. It wasn't properly diagnosed until 2023. That medical
oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my bipolar type 1 diagnosis.
Bipolar disorder comes with its own defense systems. Denial. When you're in a manic state,
you don't think you are sick. You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel like you are seeing
the world more clearly than ever, when in reality, you are losing grip entirely.
Now, there's a little bit of information in here as to how he describes what happened to him and
some information about bipolar, which I'm not going to read it all out. As I said,
it is an incredibly long apology, but I do want to read this next part out.
In that fractured state, I gravitated towards the most destructive symbols that I could find,
the SWAT sticker. I even sold t-shirts bearing it. One of the difficult aspects of having bipolar
type 1 are the disconnected moments, many of which I still cannot recall, that led to poor judgment
and reckless behavior that oftentimes feels like an out-of-body experience. I regret and am deeply
mortified by my actions in that state. I am committed to accountability, treatment and
meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did though. I am not a Nazi or an anti-Semite. I love
the Jewish people. To the black community, which held me down through all the highs and lows and
the darkest of times. The black community is unquestionably the foundation of who I am.
I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us. There is so much more in this. He talks about
how in 2025 he fell into a four-month-long manic episode,
a psychotic, paranoid, and impulsive state,
how it destroyed his life, and how he hit rock bottom.
He finishes the ad with saying,
I am not asking for sympathy or for a free pass, though.
I aspire to earn your forgiveness.
I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding
as I find my way home.
With love, yay.
Look, by all accounts, it's a pretty good apology in my eyes.
if you just take away for a second what he's apologizing for, I think he's had a team that's
put it together with him and he covers all grounds. It's a masterfully written, this is an
absolute schooling in a PR apology. It is. He covers everything. He takes accountability. He
specifically points out the people he hurt. But at the end of the day, he does give a couple of
reasons in there. And this is where the conversation gets tricky. It's very hard to call bullshit on
when somebody links it back to mental health the things that he did and his uh disconnect to reality
are all symptoms of a manic episode and bipolar but so many psychologists have come out and stated
the fact that racism anti-semitism bigotry hate they are not generally speaking a byproduct of
something like bipolar yeah however and this is going back to like old neuroscience days there is
a lot of evidence. I think this came out in like the 90s, sorry, the 1850s or something. This is
when they first started realizing that a lot of personality was, I guess, controlled by the frontal
lobe of the brain. There's this story of a guy called Phineas Gage. He was a railway worker and
a rod went through his head. He survived. It pierced his frontal lobe and his personality
changed dramatically. Oh no, all personality is frontal lobe length. Yeah. Yeah. So like that
goes back you know 170 years or something that we've been trying to understand the way that
different parts of the brain and damage to those areas can affect your behavior and what I think
is even more complex about this is that he's kind of just brought up the fact that he was in this
car accident and you know he may well have frontal lobe damage like it's an added layer of complexity
when you start to talk about not only a psychiatric condition that can be medicated but he may have
permanent, untreatable brain damage. And again, exact same as you. I'm not saying that to give
sympathy. I think that in situations like this, context is important, but it doesn't absolve you
of any type of accountability for your actions, particularly when they were as damaging as what
they were. I think it's really notable that we all want to sit here and be very compassionate
about how we discuss this. However, it would be a miss of us to say or remiss of us to say
that there is a stigma risk in this as well. Like the way in which he is conflating bipolar type 1
diagnosis as the reason for the racism, as the reason for the hate. I think that that actually
does a disservice to other people who suffer from this type of mental health illness. It creates a
scapegoat and creates a reasoning. The reason I think people are tiptoeing around, it's not so
much to protect like, oh, does he have bipolar disorder? For me, I think it's like when you look
at the court of law, for example, how many people that commit serious crimes, manslaughter, murder,
in a multitude of things that literally get off on lighter sentences
for saying that they cognitively were not in the state of mind
where they could understand or control their behaviours.
Like these are real reasons given to people.
And knowing this is why I think so many people are like,
fuck, I hate you.
Like I can say that.
I hate the guy.
I do not like anything about him or anything he stands for.
But for me, I think, okay, well, if you really, really were
in a manic episode, do I accept your apology?
do I think it's good enough and do I think it absolves you and this is the question that
people are all torn between because I think it was a brilliant apology but it's 100% not an excuse
well I think that there is a very strategic side to this and I want to put a bit of pressure on
this apology in this conversation rather than it just being all about the compassion for what it
is the context that apology I think it is strategy a big part of this and I mean I know that Kanye
has pushed back on it, but he has a new album coming out in one month's time called Bully.
Isn't that funny that when you were reading the apology to me last week in the studio,
you were reading it and you were reading it out to me and I was looking at an article at the same
time. And I, as soon as you finished, I read the last sentence and I went, oh, he's got an album
coming out in a month. And both of us looked at each other and went, oh, it was this like sinking.
I instantly was like, oh, this is no longer an apology that is just about the genuine remorse
for behavior this is a strategic apology they always are and I say this because this is not
Kanye's first apology his first apology was in 2023 which when you read his big apology this one
he says that's when he found out that he had a brain injury in 2023 in 2023 he took out an ad
this a very similar style it was in Hebrew and also in English and it was in the Hebrew post
and it was all about his commitment to change and his commitment to no longer being an anti-Semite
and how he regretted the things that he had said and did. I think an apology has zero weight unless
there's action that follows. And because we're seeing a repeat behavior in this, we're seeing
a cycle. He did it, zero change. Actually, he got 10 times worse with the things he said and did.
And now there's another apology that's come out. The other part of this that I think is so
fascinating. And the more I thought about it, the more I was like, Oh man, this, it is, there is a
PR strategy machine behind this man is that the ad was taken out in the wall street journal, right?
Who is this apology for? Who is it written to? He's saying it's written to the black community.
He's saying it's written to the Jewish people. He's saying it's written to the general public,
but the wall street journal is the perfect Avenue. If you are wanting to target advertisers,
businesses festival like the people that organize the festivals spotify if you're trying to be brand
safe that is the publication that is going to make you the most most brand safe and when brands
assess who they're going to align with they're not actually assessing like are you deeply remorseful
are you deeply sorry the thing that brands assess is risk they're like are you risky and having an
apology in the Wall Street Journal says, I'm no longer at risk. I'm safe. There was something
wrong with me. I was broken, but I'm now fixed. And that's what I think this apology is doing
because he has lost so much throughout this period. And I think that it's a very opportunistic
time in which it's come out. And we cannot overlook that just because mental health is
involved. And he's absolutely been called out for that as he should be. And I'm going to read you
his response. It's my understanding that I was in the top 10 most listened to artists overall in
the US on Spotify in 2025 and last week and most days as well. My upcoming album Bully is currently
one of the most anticipated pre-saves of any album on Spotify. Well, it's fancy he did the
apology, so no doubt. My 2007 album Graduation was one of the most listened to and streamed
hip-hop albums of 2025 so that was his 2007 album and still now is the most listened to
he's implying that he did not need to own up to his mistakes in order to promote his new album
which by all accounts is absolutely true but I was about to say where he's gone wrong but where
he's gone wrong is literally everything he's done in the last 10 years where he's gone wrong with
this apology and I absolutely agree and you guys just said it that when you had the realization
if he did this apology in this letter even if it was the ad in the Wall Street Journal if he did it
when there was nothing else coming out there was nothing to push it may have been slightly better
received but because it's four weeks before another album irrelevant of how popular he is
that's why people are calling bullshit on it as well because they're like well
fuck like you should have come out and done this when you had nothing to promote and totally I
would love to see love to see some receipts from the back of both of these apologies on what he's
doing to show the communities and support the communities that he offended the jewish community
in the black community what's he doing for them how is he apologizing how is he making it up for
them what charities is he donating to because the guy's a billionaire well yeah and also isn't that
the most important part of this like insight is the starting point like he has the inside of this
inside has not changed like the apology has not changed no change has been documented and also
the album has been made over the past couple of years so you're still functioning able to create
an album but like what's the content of the music going to be yeah and has that actually been
processed you know like if we were seeing the stuff that he was posting that he was saying
and it was abhorrent like it was so horrendous and I actually also do question that if he had
attacked any group other than Jewish people whether we would even be questioning whether
he was able to apologize in a public space yeah the cancellation would be far greater do you know
what i mean i i think it's interesting what you said though brit and going back to this idea that
his streams because he did make this public statement saying my streams have not been
impacted like i'm still if you think this apology is purely because i'm releasing an album you're
wrong because people are still listening to the music that i create controversy equates to streams
like whenever whenever there is like a big controversial moment that equates to headlines
It equates to noise. It equates to people wanting to listen to what the noise was all about. Like
it doesn't matter whether it's right or wrong. Controversy is beneficial in a lot of ways when
it comes to the music. And it also comes to having his headline in the news. What it's not beneficial
for, however, is for his overall brand. He has lost his Yeezy deal with Adidas. He has lost his
talent management. No touring company will touch him with a 10 foot pole. He has lost so much. And
He's not speaking about those things.
He's not speaking about the brand alignment that he's lost.
He's purely equating it to streams.
And by the most part, most musicians these days do not make their overall income from
streams.
They make it from all the additional brand ambassadorships and fashion businesses and
everything else that they own.
The stats around the Yeezy deal are actually insane.
So it was estimated that it was making $1.3 billion at its peak.
for one for him to be like, but I'm still getting the listens. Absolutely. Those listens are not
equating to $1.3 billion a year in shoe sales. Like he was, you know, he was a fashion icon as
well. And all of this evaporated because of how controversial he became. I do think that there
is a lot of strategy in this apology. And I think without seeing consistent and considered change
in behavior and also the outward reflection of that over a long period of time, I don't think
he's warranted the forgiveness. I don't think saying I had an injury and I have bipolar
instantly equates to forgiveness. I think that there has to be enacted change. And maybe I would
feel differently if he wasn't so famous and so influential. But I think with influential power
of the size and scale that he has, there's a different set of standards and a different set
of rules because it's not like your average person who suffers with mental health having a manic
episode he has so much influence and the damage that he has caused is is irreparable by a Wall
Street ad like you cannot repair that by saying sorry no I destroyed a lot of communities sorry
I'll buy my music album in a month you can't do that it's a reason not an excuse yeah but
what I will say is Kanye West did own his master music he made a lot of money from his music
but the thing I have a really hard time grappling with is we all know that controversy gets the
clicks we know it gets the attention we know it gets the headlines it is very hard for me to
fathom that this was all completely intentional NPR from Kanye West the reason I say that is
because if you look at the people that do it would you say well I don't know let's use Sydney Sweeney
the things that she does and says go viral they get her all the attention they make her a lot of
money but it's enough to pull her back and she still stays in the spotlight and she's still
loved and she's not cancelled and there are a lot of people that that just teeter on the edge oh
totally he spiraled I don't disagree yeah for what Kanye did to be completely going after the black
community completely going after the Jewish community saying that they should all die
making money off the hate fueling the hate and he's got he was one of the most followed people
in the world like the issues and the problems that he caused it is not in line with I'm going
to get a little bit of PR and get some extra clicks like that is somebody that and I'm not
excusing him I'm absolutely not and again I want to go back to it being a reason not an excuse
that is not something that anyone anywhere I believe would have been able to control him from
doing I don't think it was a PR I think there were everyone in his life that were pleading and
begging with him to like to stop and I think he was just completely unhinged I absolutely agree
with that but I think two truths can exist at the same time and maybe that's the really interesting
part of this discussion he can be remorseful and it can be strategic both of those do we
fucked both of those things can be true but is an apology less authentic and less impactful
and less meaningful if there is a strategy behind it like we said we all would have felt as though
that came from a more meaningful place if he didn't have an album release in a month's time
if it happened several months ago or he said you know what I have really reflected on the fact that
I have been truly horrific and I'm not going to release music for a while I'm going to take some
time off because my main priority is my mental health and actually repairing the damage that
I've done how amazing would that have been but to say I am committed to repairing the damage
but I've also spent all of my last year recording music and creating an album and now I'm releasing
that album in a month's time that's where to me I'm like you don't deserve it and maybe that is
too harsh I also think that in a whole other group that he is damaging in this is people who live
with bipolar I've just googled this because I was interested in how prevalent it actually is
between 2.2 and 2.9 percent of Australians live with a form of bipolar and so yes it does provide
reason and it gives you a little bit of context but his conflation of I have this and therefore
this is why is just simply not reasonable you know like 2.9 percent of Australians are not
going around saying that hail Hitler there is a level where I understand that it makes the
responsibility gray you know and in a manic episode the accountability that you can take
for your behavior is not black and white but I actually think that his statement alone while
it's apologizing to Jewish people and to black people and to the wider community it's actually
still doing a lot of damage to people who live with psychiatric conditions the last question
that I think is really great to ask ourselves is what do we expect what's okay and I think you take
this apology with a grain of salt but I wonder if the black community in the Jewish community
would have rather no apology at all or do they appreciate the fact that he's trying to right
wrongs and his last quote is I want to lead with love and positivity like after he finishes
apologizing that's what he says he apologizes again to the community says I want to leave with
love and positivity I do wonder if they are like okay well at least thank you for putting that out
to your 100 million followers again and thank you for trying
to change and own up to what you did.
Grain of salt.
I don't have to forgive you and I don't have to accept it.
But I do think sometimes we demand things from people
like an apology and accountability and then they give it
and we're like, that's not fucking good enough.
And this might not be good enough and it's not really.
But I do think, again, someone that is not black and not Jewish,
I do think it is better and more positive that he has done this
to try and repair some of the damage that he did inflict
over the last few years.
and I don't think anybody needs to forgive him.
Yeah.
But it's better than probably staying silent.
Well, I think that the impact will be evident in a few years' time
as to whether any tangible change has occurred.
And maybe that's why I feel so far on the negative with this
because I read the 2023 apology and I was like, oh,
we're on a hash and repeat because there's something he's trying to sell.
So I think that that's why I don't feel like there's
as much empathy there in me.
Yeah, but then there's always a counter-argument.
And I sound like I'm supporting him.
I'm absolutely not.
But the counter argument is that's in line with manic episodes.
They have them every few years.
And then maybe more frequently, not even a few years, but like it is a repetitive, sporadic
behavior.
So it's like, it's just like this fucking, it's both sides, you know?
I agree.
I'm not disputing that.
But the thing is, it is a repeat behavior.
You can't say I am committed to change and then no change happens.
You can't say you're committed to change and then sell t-shirts with swastikas on it.
You can't say you're committed to change and then say white lives matters.
like you just can't do that and you can't do that and then continue to monetize afterwards
but what I do think will be interesting is in a couple of years time firstly seeing if the
behavior changes at all will he be a different Kanye or will he just be as controversial because
his entire brand is built on controversy his entire brand is built on him being this crazy
zany manic guy who we have allowances for because that is his brand yeah because people label it
creative genius yeah i think the only other thing i want to say about this is this really proves
what it takes for a man to be cancelled oh my god i know let's not make it gendered not exist
totally it doesn't it it literally does not exist we could start a whole other episode right now
anyway stay tuned for next week's episode uh let's do suck and sweet guys all right my suck for the
week is that i have this cough this like post-viral asthma you sound sexy i cannot get rid of it every
morning I am coughing my guts up like coughing till vomit it's really disgusting and Ness came
in today wearing a mask and she's sick so I think I'm responsible for that it really sucks that's a
suck okay what's your sweet my sweet for the week is and I will actually talk about this a little
bit more next week's episode this week was Lola's first day of school and also so her first day of
school was also her birthday so we had such a sweet day yesterday trying to make it the most
special first day of school slash birthday day for her and she demanded that everyone referred
to her solely as the birthday girl which I loved at school or at home everywhere she gets to school
she's like hello I am the birth I asked her to brush her teeth and she said not until you call
me the birthday girl and I was like the birthday girl can you brush your teeth she goes in five
minutes I was like brush your teeth brush your teeth and get in the bath anyway it was just the
best day and I'm so proud of her and I like had these really I wanted to talk about on today's
episode but I thought going from busking to first day of school to birthday was just a lot of kid
stuff so we'll talk about next week we spread out it's amazing that's very very cute what is
your second suite my suck is I uh we said at the start we're going up to the gold coast for the
actor awards and I was going why I was going to see my niece Maya Sherry's daughter who's you know
18 months old I haven't seen her in so long because I've been away and it looks like I just
got fresh in off the press it looks like she's got hand foot and mouth oh the worst like sherry
she's like there's been a case a day i just look like i'm not actually going to be able to see her
or hang out with her because spoiler i don't want hand foot and mouth on the red carpet foot and
mouth in a toddler is the worst i feel like they all need to do it like they all need to get through
it at some stage like get it out of the way because it just spreads like wildfire but yeah
so the poor little thing anyway hoping it's wrong is your sweet for the week that hopefully we win
actor yeah that's my sweet imagine if we did i mean it's there's some very amazing podcasts that
have been nominated and shortlisted so it's it's unlikely the people that we are in the running
with is absolutely amazing it's shameless it's tony and ryan it's hamish and andy like it's
some of the most incredible people in podcasts so just to be in that little world and be nominated
is really cool we live in blind hope what is your sweet my sweet was yeah trying to win an actor

It was like she was on a pogo stick.
I've never seen her react like that.
