A Life Uncut podcast acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia
and their connections to land, sea and community.
We pay our respect to their elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
This episode is recorded on Gadigal land of the Aurora Nation.
Who's the lovely guy?
Around Australia.
On air and iHeartRadio.
Great Hockley and Laura Byrne.
Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friends and share the love because
we love them.
The Life Uncut Radio Show starts now.
Yes, it does.
Hello, Laura Byrne.
Does that laugh make you sad?
Oh, Mitch Turi, I'm just happy to be here with you.
Great to be here.
One-on-one this week, baby.
There is an empty seat right there where Brittany Hockley usually sits.
But then she's gone.
I was about to say Stan sits.
Who knows what she does?
She sits.
She's a real sitter, that Brittany.
If she's anything in the world, it's a sitter.
Where is she?
Well, I don't know.
I was going to ask you the same thing.
Well, I don't really know.
Neither do I.
But she's off doing something very exciting and very secret.
Yeah, and she'll be back in due time.
We're not worried about Brit.
No, we're not.
We're not.
Anyway, how have you been?
I'm good.
I'm good.
I'm glad to do this one-on-one with you.
It feels like a long time coming.
Do you know what happened?
Since when?
What?
How long has it been coming for?
I've been planning.
Just waiting for Brittany Hockley to have a sick day.
Don't check my boot.
Yeah, Brit's like, how?
Do you know what happened to me on the way here?
What?
I got out of the car.
I walked to go and get a coffee, dropped the kids off,
got back in the car, and I was like,
God, this coffee doesn't smell very good.
I'd walked through somebody's unpicked-up dog poo
and then walked it straight through my car.
And now it's baking into the car mats.
We just left it to do the show.
I was like, I had to come here.
What else can you do?
I don't know.
Find some baby wipes.
Yeah, maybe.
I just think anyone who leaves that sitting on the median strip,
anywhere, you're a deplorable human.
I completely agree.
That's disgusting.
And actually, you know what?
I could smell it and I didn't want to bring it out.
Thank you.
That's not on my shoes now.
It's just me.
There's a big show.
Manu Fidel will be here from My Kitchen Rules.
Yes.
I love Manu, but also I think I love him because I'm such a bad cook.
Yes.
And so for me, looking into the lives of people who can actually cook seems like such a novelty.
Yeah.
Poor children.
And he's a rich chef.
Like, he's been around.
He can do some good food.
Did you say he's a rich chef?
Yeah, rich chef.
Like, wealthy chef?
Yeah, like he's got...
He's doing really well for himself.
My Kitchen Rules has been going for quite a few seasons now.
It has.
Oh, we're also talking.
I want to know, and actually I want to ask you this question, Mitch.
Yeah.
What's the pettiest thing that you've done in a breakup?
Oh, I'm a bit messy when it comes to breakups.
Oh, I'm a bit petty too.
I've got, oh, I'm really petty.
Good.
I've got, let me hold them, okay?
I'm also very competitive, so let's see who's the pettiest.
You know who's having a good Saturday?
Who?
Scott Morrison, Minister of Everything.
He's not anymore, is he?
Well, no, he's still technically, I don't know how that works.
If you missed it this week, it was revealed that at the height of the pandemic, Scott
Morrison, our then Prime Minister, elected himself.
He appointed himself Minister of Everything.
Of five different things.
Yeah, essentially everything.
I have them.
Of health, of finance, of treasury, of home affairs and resources.
It's of everything.
Yeah, everyone's talking about this.
The memes were funny.
Did you see the memes?
Do you know what my favourite one was?
I know we shouldn't laugh because it's actually very serious.
It is.
But, you know, that's not what our job is.
So, okay.
My favourite one was him sitting at the table, at the table.
He was Jesus.
He was sitting at the, what's it called?
Oh, the Last Supper.
The Last Supper.
He was like...
But why is that funny?
I feel like we were playing a game of charades then.
He's sitting at the table with the Last Supper,
but his face had been superimposed onto all the apostles.
Oh, now that's funny.
Yeah, ahead of everything.
The thing is, I think he's got it the wrong way around.
Sure, we could sit here and criticise Scum.
I think it was stupid.
But he's adding more work to a very intense job.
I do everything I can to do less work.
That's right.
I think, if anything, he should have been offloading gigs to other people.
Yeah, so actually what you're saying is that maybe he did an even better job
because he was trying to do everything.
Think about a micromanager right there.
Yeah.
Okay, well, maybe we should offload some jobs.
You think here we should do some?
Well, yeah, I think we do too much.
I do.
You're a podcaster, you're a mum, you're a business owner.
Keep going.
You've got good hair.
What else can I do?
I don't.
I don't have time to have good hair.
Maybe if I offloaded some jobs, I could have better hair.
Why don't we just call some people in our lives
and offload them some jobs that we don't want to do anymore?
There's quite a few.
Yeah.
Why don't we call my mum?
Bless my mum.
What do you want to offload to your mum?
Well, Brittany's not here this week.
Mate, Brittany already offloaded her entire job.
She didn't even show up.
I've got my mum here.
This is Michelle.
Let's give her a role.
Hi, Mum.
Hi, Mum.
Hi.
Hi.
Laura, I don't know if I'm speaking out of turn here,
but I think we'd like to offer you the role of Minister,
actually let's do Chief Understudy Officer.
Yes.
And what does that entail?
What's the job description, please?
Basically, we want to work less,
And so we would like you to do our very important job of hosting the show.
Yeah, if one of us falls sick or ill.
Or just needs a day off.
Yeah.
I think I could do that.
We've done it!
Congratulations.
That's your swearing-in ceremony, Mum.
Tell Dad, tell Nan.
They'll be so proud.
We'll see you next Saturday.
Actually, I won't because I'll be having the week off.
Thanks, Mum.
We'll be in touch.
Call me in.
Okay, see you.
Thank you.
So cute.
All right, who else?
This is liberating.
All right, well, if we're really going to go for it, can you please call Matt and palm
off some of my parenting duties?
Your partner, Matt and Jay.
I mean, to be fair, I'm here and he's parenting right now,
so I've already done that.
Wait, what are we going to make him?
Give him some parenting jobs.
Give him the head of parenting jobs.
All right, I've got, I think Maddie's here.
Hi, Maddie.
Hi.
I'm sorry, are you flushing the toilet?
I was doing a wee.
Oh, good.
I'm glad that you flush.
You don't normally.
What a treat.
Look, we're doing something very important here.
We are offloading some important jobs
and I would like to dub you head of parenting.
Okay, well, to be fair, I do most of the work anyway,
so it's no difference to me.
Well, now you have an official title.
What an honour.
I think that's a yes.
Is that a yes?
I mean, do I get paid more?
No.
Oh, we can talk contracts off the air.
He's accepted.
You get a sash and an office.
Verbal contracts are very important.
All right.
We send a lot of emails, planning the show, organising it,
booking in guests, you and I talking about what we're going to do.
I think we should get a Minister of Communication.
Maybe just a PA.
But Minister of Communication sounds better,
so I think that that would be a more enticing job role.
You know who's good at sending an email?
Who?
Our boss, Richie Rich.
I've just called him up.
Richie Rich, are you there?
I am.
He's so good at sending emails.
Richie, you're very good at sending emails.
Yeah, really.
You're very good at communicating.
Well, I try my hardest, but I wouldn't say I'm very good at it.
I mean, I can do it.
I'm competent.
No, I think you excel at it.
I think it should be top of resume.
And Laura and I just don't have the time to send or receive emails,
So what we're going to get you to do is, as our Minister of Communication,
you'll be receiving and sending all of our emails.
Which means that you may need to reply to yourself quite often,
but I think that'll be okay.
More often than not.
Is that okay?
How do you feel about this, Richie?
Yeah, right.
That's fine.
I mean, under one condition.
Yeah.
That you find me a couple of washed-up reality hosts
and an anchor to replace your answer.
Oh, you know what?
No, we already have.
We've got Mitch's mum, so it's fine.
Yeah!
Yay!
Thank you, Richie.
That's our Minister of Communications there.
It's so nice when your boss says nice things about you.
Isn't it?
I know.
It makes you feel good.
Woman fuzzies.
All right, I reckon the last person we need to call is your partner.
Oh, my beloved Hayden.
Yeah.
I reckon there's some things around your house you can offload.
Oh, plenty of things.
I think this is him now.
Hi, Hayden.
You there?
Hi.
You're at home, right?
Yeah, I'm at home.
Brilliant.
Laura and I have been talking.
What are you doing at home right now?
I'm working.
Oh, interesting.
So is Skoma.
And he's still had time to appoint himself five extra roles.
I'd like to offer you the role of Minister of Domestic Affairs
Oh my god, thank you so much
Without any detail
Rule number one of business
Always ask before you sign
I don't think you know what that entails
But a lot of cooking and cleaning
But it sounds amazing
Surely it entails a salary
Oh no, no, no
But a lot of hugs and a lot of love
Thank you so much Minister
See ya
He really went, the tone dropped didn't it?
Okay bye
From excitement to terror, he was terrified
Well, I guess that means we get a week off next week.
I was going to say, you and I want coffee.
We've got nothing else to do.
Mitch, did you see, and it was all in the news last week,
did you see the woman who had taken out a full-page ad
to blast her ex for cheating on her?
Yeah, I did.
It was in Australia, right?
It was in Queensland.
It was, yeah, it was in Queensland.
Of course it was Queensland.
What newspaper was it in?
It was like in Mackay or something.
Yeah, it was a regional.
Crocodiles were in the area.
That's how I know.
Yes, the front page was a picture of a crocodile
and inside the second page it was this.
It was, Dear Steve, this is a full-page ad, mind you.
Yeah, black and white, just white background.
Just very impactful.
Dear Steve, I hope you are happy with her.
Now the whole town will know what a filthy cheater you are.
From Jenny.
P.S. I bought this ad using your credit card.
Now that's badass.
I just really enjoyed it.
Yeah, same.
Like, really, really enjoyed it.
I wonder how much that would have cost her.
That'd be a couple grand for a full page.
Cost her nothing.
Cost him a bit, though.
Oh, yeah.
Good point.
Yeah.
This got me thinking because, like, this has been doing the rounds
for the past week.
Some people are saying she's amazing.
Apparently there's a lot of police officers in Mackay named Steve
who have had a bit of a problem with it.
Infidelity issues.
Women named Jenny.
Anyway.
No, people have thought that it was them.
Oh, no.
Because there's another couple, a police officer couple,
called Jenny and Steve.
Got it.
So it's caused a lot of local drama.
Yes, but it got me thinking about what the pettiest thing I ever did
in a breakup.
Oh, I'm petty too.
I know you'd be petty.
And also I hold a bit of a grudge.
Like, I'm a grudgy, petty, like, break-up person.
It doesn't go nice together.
What have you done?
Okay, so I was going to the Philippines with my then-boyfriend.
I'd booked the tickets.
I had all the ticket details.
And then I found out that he cheated on me.
So I called, obviously.
We had a few chats about it.
And I didn't want him to come to the Philippines with me.
I was like, I want to change the flight details and take my girlfriend.
And he said no.
He was like, I'm still going to go.
And so you confronted him about the cheating and everything?
Everything.
The relationship was over.
and he was like, I'm still going to go to the Philippines
for a holiday and he wouldn't let me change the tickets
into my girlfriend's name.
That would have been so awkward as well.
Also, like, I'd paid for them.
It was my holiday.
Anyway, so because we weren't talking anymore
and I called up Cebu, the airline, I was like,
how do I change the flight details?
And they were like, look, you need to have a passport,
photo of the passport and a signed contract to say
that it's fine to change his name.
Oh, no.
We weren't speaking.
Yeah.
So I called up his housemate and I was like, hey,
let's change his name to David. Hi, David. I've left some stuff at the house. Can you let me in?
Because I don't want to speak to so-and-so. Can you let me in so I can come get my stuff? And he
was like, yeah, so sorry. So sorry what's happened. He lets me in. I sneak into his room. I take a
photo of his passport. I forged his signature. Me and my girlfriend rocked up at the airport
and there he was, not able to get on the flight. So he was there too. Oh my God. And doesn't even
know what I did. And do you know what? It's more than 10 years ago, so I'm sure there's
some statutory limitations. You can't be fine. No, no, you're fine. I'm not going to prison,
everybody. Oh my God. I thought I was petty. All I did was I knew a breakup was coming
when I was with my partner. And then we had like a week on week off petrol thing where
I'd pay for one tank, they'd pay for another. And it was definitely their week, but I knew
I was breaking up with them the next week. So I'm like, nah, it's definitely your week,
babe. This is, that's the real, actually, maybe mine's not petty. Mine's criminal. Yeah,
I've got to say, they're very different. One's a crime, one's just petty. I want to know
though this has got me thinking about all the petty stuff that you have all done yeah because
we all do it doesn't bring out the best in us in a breakup no what's the pettiest thing that you
have done in a breakup Laura Byrne the criminal that I'm sitting with right now Laura Byrne look
we realize we've been talking about what's the pettiest thing that you did in a breakup and then
it dawned on me halfway through my story that it wasn't petty it was just against the law
you committed a crime yeah you literally used it was identity fraud in a sense yeah but look it's
Just on Cebu Air.
Fine.
It was Qantas.
Oh, boy.
You've been behind bars.
We want to know 131065, beat that.
What is the pettiest thing you did during a breakup?
Katie's called through.
Hi, Katie.
Give us your petty drama.
Hi.
So my first one was...
She's got a list, guys.
Yeah.
I do, actually.
So my boyfriend, he said he was going out for like a midnight meal.
Came back at 2am.
I was annoyed.
We were on holidays at the time.
I was like cleaning clothes in the sink, as you do.
and I got angry, so I put his passport in the sink.
Oh, we're running water.
Wait, where were you?
What place were you?
In a hotel room.
Yeah, but what country?
In a hotel room.
We're in Italy at this stage.
So that's very inconvenient for both of you
because then he's going to be running around trying to go to passport office.
Did you stay together or did you break up?
We stayed together and the passport worked afterwards.
Oh.
After his little swim.
Very petty.
It's like three times five.
It's very petty.
Did he go get dinner?
Were you just suspicious?
Did he cheat?
No, he went out and had a few drinks with his mates without telling me.
Oh, that's not that bad.
I mean, I probably wouldn't ruin his passport and chances of getting home.
No.
Do you know what?
The weirdest part about this is not so much that he was going out at midnight to go for a drink,
it's that you were doing the laundry at midnight.
Yeah, there was a sink in your hotel room.
What the hell, Katie?
What's story number two?
So, I can't even remember why I got angry at him that other time.
Are you guys still together?
This sounds like a you thing.
This is toxic.
We are still together.
There's no break-up in the house.
So this one, I got angry and I scrubbed his toothbrush in the toilet.
You did not.
I did.
Does he know?
She's so proud of it.
He was a little bit intoxicated.
I told him about it, but he's forgotten about it.
And he's still using the toothbrush.
Oh, no.
I'm frightened of you.
Katie, but, yeah, why?
How are you going to justify this?
I threw out the toothbrush and I replaced it with the exact lookalike.
Oh, okay.
See, there's a bit of soul in there.
It's still terrible.
Katie, you need to break up with this person.
Yeah, this just sounds...
Call us when you do and tell me the petty thing you did.
Let's do Zara on 131065.
Please tell us you had a breakup, Zara.
Yeah, obviously I've had a breakup.
Great.
What petty things did you do?
Oh, my God, it's so petty.
I used to call up...
I was 17, but I used to call up my boyfriend with a no-caller ID
and then he'd, like, pick up and say,
hello, and I'd just hang up.
I did it every single day for about three months straight.
Oh, after the breakup?
Yeah, yeah.
And what, he just thought he was getting something
from, like, a call centre or something?
No, he'd be like, hi, blank speaking,
like, let's say his name's Joe.
Hi, Joe speaking, and then I'd just hang up.
Zara, you just ranked up credit.
That's stupid.
You had to pay the bills, Zara.
He's so petty and so childish.
I was so hurt that he cheated on me that I would just call up.
I think that's more sad, if anything, Zara.
Hold on, Nat's out there.
She works on the show.
Nat says she's got something.
Natty's so petty.
She's petty in the workplace.
I am petty.
I enjoy being petty, though, so I don't regret this.
So do I.
All right, what is it?
What happened during the breakup?
Well, I broke up with my ex-boyfriend.
Obviously, I didn't do the breaking up, so I was heartbroken.
I was hurt, and I wanted to get back at him for hurting me.
So I stole the key to his house.
I went to his house.
I didn't break in.
I let myself in and stole the left shoe.
One better than Laura.
It was kind of a break-in since you probably weren't welcome in the house.
Look, he knew I had the keys.
Semantics.
He forgot about that.
That's his fault.
So I went in and stole the left shoe of every pair of his shoes
so he didn't have a complete set.
So he'd have to leave the house in two different shoes.
I love this.
You know what?
These calls, we need theft stuff.
I want to know what you stole from an ex.
We weren't really getting petty breakups, were we?
We were getting just petty things in general.
And heartbreak.
Okay, yeah, what did you steal from your ex is probably a better one.
Hopefully we get better calls.
Yeah, 131065.
Nothing too criminal.
No, and not pets or anything.
Or like super valuable stuff that you could go to jail for, like iPhones and jewellery.
But like, what else did you steal from your ex?
Taking your calls on 131065, we were just asking, what is the pettiest thing you did during a breakup?
Yeah, and then we got some really random callers, and so we thought we would pivot and try something new.
We wanted to know, now, what did you steal during a breakup?
Yeah, yeah.
We've all done some things that we regret in the past.
Well, Nat, who works here on the show, she stole all of her ex's left shoes.
Do you know what it makes me think of when you walk into a shoe store
and how they only always have the left out?
Is it trying to know that?
It's so that you can't steal a pair.
Oh, my God, that's genius.
Yes.
You know they also staple them into the mannequins
so you can't take them off the mannequin?
Why do you know that?
Oh, we'll talk after, yeah.
We'll talk after.
Speaking of things that we've stolen.
Lauren, hi.
What did you steal from your ex?
Hi, I took the big, fancy bamboo bath towel
so I had to sneak them in my bag
when she wasn't looking and those bad boys were coming with me.
What do you mean?
How many bath towels?
Two.
They were an engagement present and it was a bit of a petty breakout
with the Division of Things and I knew it was going to be an argument
so I made sure I hid them in my bag and I ran out with them.
I've still got them now five years later.
They are 10 out of 10.
Worth it.
You ran out with them?
Just a bag full of towels?
Just you and the bath towels.
Oh, and that's an engagement breakup too.
That's messy.
But it's okay.
It was worth it.
I got the towels out of the doll.
Wow, really towel focus.
Okay.
Maya on 131065.
End of skin.
Maya, what did you steal from your ex?
Honestly, basically, well, when we broke up, it was kind of like an epic love story, but
I stole the condoms because I knew I'd be using them better elsewhere.
Wow.
Wow.
Also, wow.
I mean, protection is important, but I feel like taking all of someone's condoms, when
he comes home from a night out with a, thinking he's going to get lucky, rolls over to the
top drawer, they're all gone.
You know what I mean?
You also could have.
To be fair, it was like a power play.
Do you, but also like, do you want to use your ex's condoms that you could have used
once upon a time with your ex.
That feels weird too.
Oh, but to be fair, it's because I threw him out the house.
I kept him and put him in the window when he was collecting his stuff.
It was like, it was definitely like mocking my character.
Oh, you had the power.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, right.
Oh, yeah, I did.
I was like, you see, they're mine now.
You could have just aimed bigger, like steal the fridge or something.
Why a box of $5 condoms?
Steal some jewellery.
Like, there's got to be something better in the house.
My standards are so low.
I really showed him.
I took the toothpicks.
Did you take the K-Y jelly as well?
All right.
Oh, look, I knew it would come deep.
Yeah, oh, I'm sure.
All right, Alexandra's called on 131065.
Wrap this up for us.
What did you steal from the breakup?
A ukulele.
And he was a top musician as well.
Oh!
Scott Morrison.
Scott Morrison!
It was Scott Morrison.
Jenny's calling from the Shire.
Hi, Jenny.
Oh, that's gold.
Okay, did he know that you'd taken his ukulele?
He did notice it three weeks later and I didn't confess.
No, good.
Lie.
You die.
That's the hill you die on.
Yeah.
All right, thank you, Alexandra.
Our next guest, very exciting.
Are you watching My Kitchen Rules, Laws?
I love My Kitchen Rules.
I'm like the worst cook.
Very good at ordering on Uber Eats.
I've noticed that.
Every time I go out with you, you're like, let's get food.
And then the phone comes out.
I'm like, go to the pantry instead.
No, I'm like, yeah, come over and I'll order for you.
What do you want?
Very generous, though.
You do pay, which is very nice.
You're either like a MasterChef family or a My Kitchen Rules family.
I love My Kitchen Rules at the moment.
You've got Nigella.
And, of course, you've got Manu Fidel, who joins us now.
Hello, mate.
Bonjour, bonjour.
What is going on in the background there, Manu?
You're slaughtering some pigs.
I'm at the airport, actually.
Okay.
So, yeah, same thing.
Yeah, yeah, essentially the same.
Hey, how are you?
It's so good to have my kid, Jamil, back on our screen.
A crazy, crazy new season with Nigella, which I'm loving.
Yes, Nigella is a gorgeous woman.
I'm an amazing human being.
A red sunshine.
It's wonderful to be working with her.
Speaking of Nigella, she's just left.
We've got Matt Preston coming on.
Yeah, they did a little swap around.
A little switchy-roo.
Yeah, were you sad to see her go?
Yes, I was.
But, you know, I also love working with Mr. Matt.
You know, he's a good man.
Yeah.
Mr. Matt, I love this.
Minoo, you have been invited into many a household on My Kitchen Rules.
Can you tell me?
Because I am a very bad cook, so you would never come over to mine.
She is.
It's really bad.
Okay, but what is the worst meal that you've ever had in someone's house?
Wow, there's been a few.
Name and shave.
Are we talking NKR or are we talking friends and neighbours?
No, okay, let's not roast your friends and neighbours.
I mean people on the show.
Yeah, because that spag bol mum used to make was terrible.
I remember having, that was years ago,
so I won't remember who made it,
but I remember it was in Queensland somewhere.
Someone made a sweet corn soup
with a fine-quarted piece of avocado in the middle of it.
And I remember Pete Evans turning the plate upside down
and the soup didn't even come out of the plate.
Well, like it was like solid soup.
That's a new invention.
It's not even soup.
You can't even call that soup.
That's pudding.
That's sweet corn pudding.
That's dessert.
It was glued to the plate.
Oh, man.
Well, here's the thing that I find interesting, right?
So you're like running in the family is the chef bloodline, right?
Your grandfather was a pastry chef.
Your father was a chef.
Your cousin is a chef.
but you studied to be in a circus when you were a kid.
Is that true?
Yes, it is 100% true.
I've always wanted to be an entertainer.
Didn't get to do that job, but I ended up being a chef.
And actually, today I've got the best of both worlds.
It's a bit of a circus, isn't it?
Yeah.
Doing reality TV.
What were you doing, though, when you were practising
or studying to be in a circus?
Like, what was your niche of circus tricks?
Were you a juggler?
I started with Acrobats.
With the what?
Acrobats.
He was an acrobat.
Oh, I thought you said cravats, and I was like, that's a weird one.
That's a different show.
That's a maths thing, yeah.
Yeah, Acrobats.
Yeah, sorry.
Excuse the French accent.
I'm not used to it.
And then I did clowning, juggling, unicycling, and all that jazz.
Wow.
This is very impressive.
Did you have a circus fling?
Like, is everyone in the circus getting with each other?
I'd love a reality show based in the circus.
That would be fantastic.
I mean, the circus is different to what it used to be.
I mean, now they're just, you know, pretty much amazing artists.
Yeah.
And, you know, if you look at the Cirque du Soleil
compared to what circus used to be, it's very different things.
Well, 2023, pile a week.
I feel like you've got an idea there, Midge.
I want to know, now I've heard that you have a beautiful,
romantic meet-cute about how you met your wife.
Can you let us know how you guys, we love, we love love here at Life Uncut.
Yeah.
How did the two of you meet?
It's funny because people find it strange,
but it's the old school stuff.
It's going clubbing, meeting a girl on a dance floor,
and then, you know...
I heard it was Ivy Bar.
You met at Ivy Bar, Manu?
Yes.
I've met a few men there.
We first met in the lift going to Level 6.
What happens in Level 6?
Where's Level 6, huh?
Well, it's near the...
The restaurant.
The VIP club upstairs.
And then Clarissa and a bunch of friends were kind of lost.
They didn't know where they were going.
So I said, well, why don't you follow me, ladies?
And then the rest is history.
Oh, what a cute story.
Add that to the book.
Doesn't happen to anyone these days, does it?
No one meets at nightclubs anymore.
No, no, but Manu Fidel, it happens to him, the French god.
I want to ask Manu, we do a segment here on the Life Uncut radio show
called Headlines.
So we scour the internet, we get a bunch of headlines
that have been written about you.
Some are real, some are completely made up,
and it's your job to debunk, real or fake.
You want to play?
Sure, sure.
All right, we'll do it next.
We are playing one of our favourite segments ever.
Headlines.
Headlines.
This is your opportunity,
because there's always things that are written,
you know, in the Daily Mail and elsewhere,
and it's your opportunity to tell us the truth behind the story.
Yeah.
All right, here is one.
That was it.
The moment Manu thought his TV career was over.
Oh.
That's true.
Oh, it's real?
Oh, my God, okay.
What was it?
Yeah.
What was the moment?
Well, I just lost my job at Channel 7 two years ago after COVID
and they decided that my channel wasn't going to come back.
And after, you know, 12 years, there was a bit of a shock.
And I thought, maybe this is it.
Maybe this is the end of my TV career.
Back to the circus, maybe.
Maybe you have to go back.
But you've bounced back.
Absolutely not.
I've got one.
What about this?
Headline or headline?
Inside menus, intense beef with Matt Preston.
That's false.
False.
Completely false.
The chefs love each other.
There's never been any beef between the two of us
or with any other celebrities or chefs.
Oh, I've seen an episode.
There was a bit of beef between you two and you ate it.
You dove right in and you cut up and you served it.
You actually had this.
It was roasted.
It was real beef.
It was actually quite tender.
All right, you go, Lois.
All right, I have one here.
Manu shows off his extensive tattoo collection
as he enjoys pool day during boys' trip.
Half true, half false.
And I'll tell you why.
Because...
You get both.
Sorry, I had to, yeah.
I was showing my tattoos at Port Douglas.
There was a taste of Port Douglas.
So it wasn't a boy's trip, it was work.
Oh, how many tattoos are we talking?
Should we be showing off your tattoos?
I don't know.
I stopped counting.
What would be the most shocking tattoo?
If you were to say, I have this, what is it?
What's the one that would shock us most?
Well, I wouldn't shock you, but you'll understand now
because you know my use.
that I've got a circus theme tattooed on my back.
Oh!
I've got the crown, I've got the jugglers, I've got...
Interesting.
At least it's not an elephant trunk, you know, going who knows where.
There is one too, yeah, but it's at the front.
Oh, Manu, you're a good man.
If you want to get more of that and a bit of beef
in between he and Matt Preston,
Matt is now in instead of Nigella.
My Kitchen Rules is on 7 and 7+.
So good to chat to you, buddy.
Thanks for coming on.
Thanks, Manu.
Thank you, guys.
Hello, Mitch Chury. Now we are nearing the end of the show.
Yeah, we are.
But there is something that you told me earlier and then you've been trying to get out of talking about for the rest of the show.
Here's the thing. So we're on the air, we're playing songs. We don't just sit here and stare at each other.
We do, sometimes lovingly.
That's hot.
Longingly.
Today we didn't. I was telling you about a work event we had, like a radio station team drinks.
You and Britt couldn't come. It was just the bare bones of the team that went out.
We don't get invited to these things, let's be real.
You don't want to be invited to this party.
Okay, so many drinks were had, much fun was had.
And it's just that awkward thing when you're at work drinks, right?
When you're with friends, you can be loose and you can kind of be a bit naughty,
but you've got to put on your best behaviour with work people
because you've got to go to work with them on the next Monday, you know?
Well, apparently too much fun was had by someone who is our colleague.
Yeah, so I'm not going to name and shame.
You've met them, lovely, but they are that kind of person in the office.
They are meek, they're quite mild, they keep to themselves, very sweet,
and they have a role that is in the legal department,
So they work within legal and they work with laws and broadcast terms, you know.
Very, very sensible.
I would say if you're going to, A, personality type.
Yes, correct.
Just likes order and is sensible.
Also likes a spa bath.
You've got to give some context.
So hold on, if there are any Tim Ellers out there, Digital Elle, you were at this party, right?
Yeah, she loves a good spa.
Okay, so we're all sitting there having drinks, enjoying, talking about the week that was.
And out of nowhere, we hear like hooter and holler and like everyone's going,
and I'm having a drink with one of my mates.
I go, oh, what's going on?
I turn around on this balcony and there is unnamed co-worker,
butt naked.
Completely naked.
Completely starkers, stepping into a bath, like Betty Boop,
like her toe was dipping in like she was animated.
What time of day was this?
This was like 11 o'clock at night.
It wasn't even that late.
No.
And let me tell you.
I don't believe that she was completely,
sure she wasn't just wearing like a nude panty.
Ella.
No, no, she was butt naked.
Sam, can you come over here?
Sam was there too.
and Sam's a straight man.
His eyes went straight there.
Sam can confirm.
And it's one of those things where you're just like,
okay, do I look, do I not look?
Yes, no, you don't look.
Well, that's what I mean.
Never look.
Do you look?
It's a co-worker.
And then I looked and the awkward part was,
you guys can confirm, we all laughed and look at her go,
that's hot, we're all for liberation, it's not a bad thing.
But then, like, time passes and we all get another drink
and people go and then you sort of turn around to check
that she's still there like a dinosaur in Jurassic World
and she's just sitting there like a toddler staring into space naked.
Did nobody else get into the spot?
No!
No, she was by herself.
It was so awkward.
It was so weird.
Usually that, like, kicks off a party and then other people get in
and it's a whole thing.
So she just got naked, got into the spa and then sat in there looking
astral planning.
And then just disassociated.
Or she was literally just staring into thin air.
Can I just say the worst part was.
Did anyone check if she was okay?
No, the worst part was she didn't know the control was really awkward to you
so she didn't know how to get the bubbles on.
So the water was flat.
So it just looked like two life rafts sitting on the top of the water.
How long did she stay in the spa for?
A good hour.
Why?
Until she was prunier, then she went out.
At least her fingers were pruney.
Anyway, that just brings me to the question.
Like, what has happened at your team drinks, you know?
Do you think that she came into work the next day
and was like, I regret that?
That's a regrettable moment in my life.
I don't think she remembered it, to be perfectly honest with you.
What happened at your team drinks?
My team drinks went too far when?
I want you to finish the sentence.
Call us up.
Let us know.
I reckon there's going to be a few doozies.
All right, 131065, we're taking your calls
before we get out of here this morning.
Our work drinks went too far when?
One of my co-workers got her shirt off and got in a spa
and she looked great, but it was a bit awkward.
She got everything off and got into a spa.
I think there was like a lace undie perhaps.
Oh, that changes things.
Really?
You couldn't see below the waterline though, it was murky.
Well, yeah, I thought that she was completely nude,
like everything.
No, I still think it's a bit out of hand.
We want to know, what did you do?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What did you do under the influence at your work party?
13-106-5, our work drinks got out of hand when?
Emily, hi.
Hi.
Work drinks got out of hand when the next day I was told
that I ended up in the hospital with 10 stitches
and I don't even know what happened.
Nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
And that's probably the best way to end it.
Let's keep it exactly like that.
Did you have to be told that you had stitches
or did you wake up and go, that's really painful?
No, the next day someone was like, what happened?
You ended up in the hospital.
We heard you got stitches.
And I was like, I don't know.
Wow.
Where were the stitches, Em?
They were on my arm.
Who did you work for?
Donut King.
So it was just a really normal amount of people.
All right.
Thank you, Emily.
Donut King party would be fun with the cinnamon donuts.
All right.
Pip on 131065.
My work drinks went too far when?
I spilled red wines on my boss's white dress.
Oh, dear.
Tragic.
Better than doing it at a wedding.
That's also very bad.
On the bride, yeah.
Yes.
It's a tale as old as time.
Did you get the salt out, Pip, and just dash it on there?
Were you in trouble?
Oh, look, it was the end of the night
and there was a party of bars involved, a lot of wine.
And, no, I didn't get in trouble.
I actually got a promotion.
Oh, pal, my.
The markings of a good time.
Laura, come over here and spill some wine on your shirt.
Thank you, Pip.
All right, let's wrap it up with Cassie.
Work drinks went too far when?
So we went out for drinks for Christmas when we were at a bar
and I got extremely drunk, as we do when we're at work.
We've all been there.
And then I was yelling out across the bar,
I need some lovin' tonight.
I continued to do, and my boss kept coming up and saying,
you're going to attract the wrong type of guy here.
Sounds like a good boss.
And I continued to do so.
Hold on, did you get lucky that night, Cassie?
I did, actually, and 13 years later, we're still married.
Oh, yay!
That's amazing.
I don't think your work drinks went far enough.
They went just to the right point.
That's cute.
What a nice love story.
Where did you meet Dad, Mum?
How did you tell that at your wedding?
When you had to write your vows, were you like, yes,
I romantically hollered at you from across the room?
She hung up.
Okay, that's a shame.
Girl, Cassie, it was good for me too.
I had a really fun time.
Cassie just hung up.
Well, that's the end of the show.
And you know what?
Probably right.
Cassie's had enough of us.
So have you all.
She was like, I gave you enough of my life.
Leave, thank you.
Stop laughing at my relationship.
True.
I did play Santa Fe.
She got a bit embarrassed.
Do you know what, though?
It's not enough of us, Mitch.
We are back this week on the podcast.
We have such, I am so excited for this episode.
Have you heard of the new Netflix series that's out?
It's a docu-series and it is called The Most Hated Man on the Internet.
I've seen it.
I've absolutely loved it.
You did?
Yeah, it was the guy who was using.
Hunter Moore.
Hunter Moore.
He was putting up nude photos of women on a public website.
It is wild.
So it's based back in 2010 at this website that existed.
It is ground zero for revenge porn.
and when all the legislation changed because of this website,
so all the laws that came out afterwards.
We are interviewing Kayla Laws, who is one of the women
whose nudes mysteriously, which you find out why,
ended up on this website.
Nudes that she never sent to anyone,
that were only on her computer.
And they appeared online.
Online for people to, like, it was horrible,
truly a horrible time in, like, the world of social media.
But that is all coming up, comes out on Tuesday.
Go listen to it.
It is such a great episode.
And that's it from us.
You and me doing the radio show all the time.
Britt normally does this part.
How do I throw it into it again?
Oh, you say.
What do I say?
Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your friends.
Oh, no, that's not it.
I always get it wrong.
Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friends.
And share the love.
Because we love love.
Yay, we did it.
We got through it.
Oh, thank God.
See you next time.
