Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut, I'm Laura, I'm Brittany and
this is Mums Gone Wild.
This is our Off Cuts episode where we unpack all of the really exciting shit we saw in
the news or things that were in our group chats this week and guess who was in the news
everyone?
The most exciting thing we need to unpack is Laura Byrne's 40th birthday.
Can I? I know that I said we're never going to talk about my 40th again, but here we are.
I actually can't believe we are still talking about it. Thanks, Daily Mail.
No, it's not Daily Mail. It's everywhere. Okay.
It was Vogue. It was viral. New York Post.
I went viral this week, but not for reasons that I'm proud of. Okay. So if you listened to the
pod a couple of weeks back, or you might've seen it on socials, I told the story about how
my 40th birthday ended at midnight with our neighbors egging us. Okay. So we made a video
out of that because it was a funny story and you know what we all laughed ha ha ha ha nom nom nom
we laughed we laughed and so did the internet and so did the media I just want to read you a couple
of headlines I'm simultaneously finding it very funny and also so deeply shameful like I'm so
embarrassed and normally really of all the things that have been published about you this is what's
got you feeling like a lack of dignity it's not pinky in the stinky lame because because there's
truth to it that's the problem like the pinky and the stinky thing funny fine you love the time they
wrote an article about saying that i fed my kids dog food the time that they wrote an article saying
that my husband masturbates at dinner party all true all of those stories have truth fact check
we're pretty much based on lies they were like a granule of truth except for the masturbating one
a granular truth and so it was easy to laugh at them but these are actually true this is what
happened and i am just fucking lame that's what i've come to realize neighbor's egg laura burns
wild 40th birthday party thanks daily telegraph firstly can i say it actually wasn't wild it
wasn't wild at all laura burns wild 40th birthday party ends with egg attack from furious neighbors
that's from the daily mail and also stars 40th party takes a dramatic turn that's news.com it's
ended up in perth now it's literally it's it's viral it made perth now laura it's gone cross
country the mercury did an article on it but my favorite one was i've been hit laura burns 40th
descends into chaos fantastic this does great things for our street cred does it yeah i'm still
fucking cool i think that we were like starting to border on getting a little boring and mundane
you know i can throw a party sorry my favorite part on all the virality was at the end it said
britney hockley was also there it's not about you britney i was wild too guys did they not see me
dancing in the smoke machine were you wild yeah it doesn't get okay eggy sorry i just said that
this did things for our street cred this is removing those things i don't think this is
anything to be embarrassed about it's not lame it's lame you know what but i'm okay with being
like a millennial mom what's lame about it you got her riz back no you were partying so hard
that people tried to take you down like that's not lame that's cool do you know what i forgot
to add this part to the story you know what we got egged to r-e-s-p-e-c-t which is so funny
Which you need to have for me.
That's the song that we were singing at the top of our lungs
when my neighbour decided to build a carton of eggs at us.
What is lame is your neighbour egging you on your 40th
at 12 o'clock in Bondi.
Yeah, you should be respecting your elders.
Respect your grandmas.
Fuck off.
Respect your...
Anyway, guys, this is, as I said, our Off Cuts episode
where we bring you the nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom,
of the week.
Nom, nom, nom.
And we started with egg.
We started with nommy egg.
We started with breakfast.
And now let's go to Bonnie Blue.
Also, we're talking eggs because hers were apparently fertilized.
No, they were fake.
I know, fake fertilized.
You guys might have seen, maybe you did, maybe you didn't.
I was shooketh to my call when I saw this.
Bonnie Blue, she's the very controversial, only fans, you know, does like the sex challenges
where she sleeps with like a thousand men in 24 hours.
Fascinating documentary about her that's on Netflix, I think.
I think Stan.
Stan.
There you go, I think.
Anyway.
The world knows Bonnie Blue.
It's fascinating.
She got arrested in Bali.
Now, yeah, and she's every week she's done something controversial.
She also like now basically can't leave her house without full bodyguards
for fear of her life.
Which is wild, isn't it?
Well, it's a frightening thing to me that you would choose
to make your life so controversial that you're fearful for your life.
But she's also created this herself.
She got kicked off of OnlyFans because she wanted to do a stunt
that she called something like a petting zoo where she was put
into a cage and she would allow anyone to do anything they wanted to her she was like do you
know you know what i mean i'm like i don't feel sorry for you that you have to go around with
bodyguards when you were actually inviting that type of but it's because she's pushed
she keeps pushing the bar herself like she does something that is so outrageous you know she
remember she got kicked out of australia and fiji because she was trying to have sex with people
that kids kids that had literally just turned 18 and she's trying to take virginity yeah and so
But then she's pushing her bar so far because she does these outrageous things and all of
a sudden it's not outrageous anymore.
So she needs to find something more outrageous.
The reason why she has been blowing up recently in the news, you might have seen she announced
that she was pregnant.
So this announcement came off the back of another one of her like epic challenges where
she just slept with 400 men and she announced that she was pregnant and she was sporting
a visible bump.
And of course the internet did what the internet is always going to do when it comes to Bonnie
Blue.
They were fucking mad.
the internet was really mad I think that there was a lot of particularly women who were I guess
probably faux concerned and also maybe genuinely concerned for the welfare of this child and what
does that look like being brought into a world where your mother is so deeply controversial and
embroiled in these sorts of like I guess I want to be careful how I say it because like it really
pushes the line as to what is and isn't okay in this world of like sex industry well it's it was
controversial for a lot of reasons controversial because she was pregnant after sleeping with 400
people she wouldn't say who it was because she's always had a relationship on the side of this so
and she's no longer in that relationship so she was leading people to believe that it could be
any one of those 400 people then she went even further by saying she's going to try and fall
pregnant while pregnant so she was rage baiting people to the point of saying i'm going to keep
fucking people while i'm pregnant in hopes that there's this anomaly where they can because you
can fall pregnant again so she was she was just pushing like every boundary to like different men
yeah yeah i know that we're trying to be careful because it's like if consenting adults whatever
they do is their choice but if you're sleeping with people in this attempt to get second pregnant
which i don't even know if that's biologically possible it is but it means that you're having
unprotected sex which means that you could contract stis which can genuinely affect the
health of your baby well look i mean if you have seen the documentary about bonnie blue you would
know that her MO is to rage bait. That's how she grows. She has actively and outwardly said,
my currency is to be as controversial as possible so that anyone who is pearl clutching will
complain about me and then their husbands will end up being the ones that will subscribe to my
channels. Now, a lot of women who have been through fertility issues, pregnancy loss had
come forward and were criticizing her around this pregnancy. And she said this in response to some
women who had been discussing this around miscarriage. She said, it is my body and I
can choose to share the news about my pregnancy however I wish. It does not mock miscarriages at
all. What they have experienced, yes, is heartbreaking, but it isn't my fault and it
isn't my problem. If you are angry, direct that anger elsewhere, which at the time was part of
her pregnancy announcement. Now, the reason why we're talking about this is because just last
week she came out and announced that actually the pregnancy was entirely a stunt. She was actually
wearing a pregnant belly throughout the whole thing that like, you know, gave the illusion of
being pregnant. And she said this, I would like to put the audio in here because I think it's
better coming from her mouth. Spring break is done and I'm no longer going to need this
fake bum. So thank you for all you middle-aged dumb parents that fell for my rage rape. It's
not only as a pay for the villa, the sunshine, but I over 100 million views has made me a million
a pound better off. It's so gross. What I have to say to this is when are we going to learn?
When are we going to learn that everything that she comes out with is a publicity stunt that's
supposed to make us feel angry? Everything we felt we were supposed to feel, she engineered this and
she got exactly what she wanted out of it. There is so much currency to her rage bait. She's told
us that that's what she's doing. And then when she does exactly what it is that she's always said
she's going to do, we still feel angry about it. And yeah, because this one was believable.
That's why this didn't present itself as a stunt. Everything else is a stunt, right? I'm going to
have sex with this many people. I'm going to put myself in a cage. I'm going to whatever. I'm going
to go on Andrew Tate's podcast. You can see that for what it is. This was different because she is
a woman of childbearing age that is having a lot of sex that very well could fall pregnant.
It wasn't just a week of pretending. She released fake ultrasound pictures. Like she doubled down
into this, that it was, there'd be no reason for us to have thought it was a stunt. What she's done
now is taken something outside of the sex world that is so relatable and hit so many people
personally and turned that into rage bait. This is the first time I think we've seen her rage bait
in a whole new category to a whole new bunch of people. Like the people that this has affected
wouldn't usually be affected by her content. What she's doing to herself now is the boy who cried
wolf no one's ever going to believe anything that she ever says again because she's crossed a line
yeah I also I think you just hit the nail on the head perfectly this idea that she not only did
she lean into it she doubled down when people came forward and said you know that women in
particular came forward saying that it made them feel whatever they felt around their own fertility
infertility or miscarriage her response being like this is not my problem and basically saying that
like my experience of pregnancy has nothing to do with you you've made a mockery of that and it's
Kind of like pregnancy is the one thing that you shouldn't joke about.
Actually, there's lots of things we probably shouldn't joke about.
But anyone who chooses to fake a pregnancy, it's just like such an insensitive thing to
do to people who have actually gone through the loss of a pregnancy.
Like it's something that is perceived so negatively by anyone who has ever experienced
fertility issues.
And she's so deeply unlikable now.
And I say that in a way that I've never agreed with what she's done.
Didn't particularly like her, but she didn't bother me to the point.
I didn't lose sleep over it.
And I wasn't like, what a horrible person.
I just thought like, not for me.
Fucking you do you.
Don't agree with it.
But what this has done is made her just truly, deeply unlikable on another level.
Because it has, like I said before, it just crossed a line that women know you don't cross.
And I don't think we have seen it to this level.
I cannot think of anyone ever in the public eye that has pulled a stunt that is faking
in a pregnancy to scam dumb mothers and people
out of a million pounds.
Because it's not actually scamming the mothers.
They're not the ones who are viewing this content.
What she's done, and this is what she says in her documentary,
she's a fucking fascinating businesswoman, right?
Like she doesn't care about what you or I think.
Fantastic.
So she's able to operate in a space that gets mass views
and mass eyes because she literally says it.
I will do and say whatever I know incites the most rage in you in order to get you to talk
about me in your household. You as a woman will go home. You will talk to your husbands about me.
You will bitch about me. They will look me up and guess what? They will subscribe to my channel
anonymously later on. And it's their money that I am making. And this is, it's, it's so sick and
it's so fucked, but like we almost, and I know that we're doing the opposite right now. I'm like,
We're doing it, yeah.
You have to stop talking about it in order for it to, like,
actually have any benefit.
But it's so interesting that you can't not talk about it either.
She must have a – and, like, again, not our place to diagnose.
She must have a different brain to help.
Like, we are in the public space.
When people say negative things about us, as much as we like to be like,
it doesn't affect us, it fucking does.
It hurts your feelings.
And for her to not have –
Not me.
I've been hit.
Like, any type of emotion towards the negative things
that people say about her.
she just doesn't give a shit she's like she not only does she not give a shit she's found a way
to monetize it she wants the negativity yeah because the negativity is what drives her
engagement you must have a different brain right yeah you have to like she's just a fascinating
case study i remember mama mia did an interview with her not so long ago and it was framed in a
way where kate langbrook was like we didn't really know if we wanted to do this because we feel so
conflicted about her but ultimately it is fascinating what she's done i don't agree with
it i'm not talking about it because i want to platform it but i think like once again we played
into her marketing plan and we're all the suckers but i also think like you could never talk about
her again she's gonna stay just as successful totally she's already cemented it she everyone
knows who she is i reckon you could say her name in any country and people would have heard who
she is and she's like the most well-known only fans sex content creator that there is
when is the line what is worth it you can make all the money in the world she's doing it for
money, right? She's not doing it to be liked because she's not liked. Even the people that
follow her and pay her for her content, they don't like her. They don't respect her. Exactly.
They just want to watch and consume the content. What is the point of earning millions of pounds
and never having to work again and having anything you want? If you can't go outside safely,
you have security, you can't live a normal life. No one likes you. And I know it's not about being
liked, but like knowing that people don't respect you, don't like you, you'll never get a quote
unquote normal job again which she doesn't need but I mean what's the sacrifice is money worth
having a life where you can't step outside without maybe being egged and without a security guard I
mean worse than that she's she's had she has so many death threats yeah I think in her case
it's a sense of notoriety like it's not necessarily the likability I'm sure she has fans like she does
have fans there's no a challenge here that she doesn't have people who idolize her and think
she's a queen and all of that like that exists as well but overarchingly the commentary around
her is quite negative from people but she clearly has fans she has a million dollars worth of people
who she would you know from that one publicity stunt she would assume are her fans but she has
this untouchable sense of notoriety and that must feel powerful to some degree regardless of whether
it comes with hate and everything else her name is almost a household name in some places and
that's pretty crazy I think to kind of get your head around I agree with you would I want that
no but like as you said Keish clearly she operates very differently that the things that she wants in
her life and the things that she sees value in and maybe that is money maybe that is notoriety
that she places that as a priority in her hierarchy of needs it's almost like it becomes
an obsession that's fucking fascinating I don't think she set out like that I think it's a snowball
effect and it's like I said before you keep pushing what is normal and what is okay and
what's not shocking and all of a sudden what would have been shocking a year ago isn't it's also not
shocking to you anymore that's no to her I'm saying to her like for herself I am sure when
she started OnlyFans having sex on a camera might have been a bit like oh I can't believe I'm gonna
do this like I could only imagine that feeling is a new feeling that you would have to grapple with
and now she's like well 20 people's not enough well 400 people's not enough what's enough now
because that dopamine hit changes for not only the public consumption but for yourself so fascinating
all right that's enough of Bonnie Blue little switch the woman we shouldn't talk about different
kind of scandal I want to talk about. I want to talk about an interior design scandal.
So this is insane to me. This is a video that we came across online going pretty viral. It's from
a creator called Melissa N. Marie. She's pretty big. She has 345,000 followers. And so she's a
single mom. And I think that that is important in what I'm going to say. She's a single mom to a
teenager. So she put a video up that has garnered over 20,000 likes, three and a half thousand
comments. Now she was doing a renovation of her kitchen in her house and she hired an interior
design company to do it. It came through with a quote of about $40,000. As much as she is an
influencer, she was just a full paying customer. By all accounts, she was an everyday woman that
hired an interior designer to completely re-render and develop her kitchen.
So then she gets the contract. There was a very specific clause in the contract that stood out.
Have a listen. By signing the contract, that means that I'm allowing them to take videos or
photos of my home and use it on their social media or their website or whatever. And if I
opt out of that, I have to pay like hefty fee. It was $300 just for them to not be able to like
market my home, which I find quite insane. I'm a full paying customer. Basically, she has to pay
a $300 fee for this design company to not use the photos
that she's herself paying for.
It's an opt-out of the imagery.
Which I actually hadn't heard of before.
I had never heard of a customer paying a fee for somebody
to then not use their photos.
At the end of the day, it's marketing and people pay for marketing.
Usually it's the other way around.
Usually a brand will pay an influencer or for photos
or a photographer to go and take something.
They will usually pay for that.
they won't charge the person that's already paying. This gets trickier because Melissa and
Marie went to the company and said, Hey, I don't feel comfortable with this clause. Not only have
I never seen it before, but I have a stalker. I have a stalker and I've had to move before.
They've turned up to my house before. I can't have any identifying features of my house anywhere.
She even had a restraining order that she had gotten out of a previous rental
with essentially the rules were like it's an exception to having to break a lease like it
was a very legitimate concern and she had the proper orders in place she's not it's not like
she's just like I'm slightly concerned for my safety no it's actually and like I just got
goosebumps thinking about it I can't imagine feeling like you're running from somebody anyway
like that you're having to hide your life and you don't feel completely safe but then to have a
company as a full paying customer, like $40,000 job to have them say, you have to pay us more
for us to not release identifying information about your house. When you have gone to them
and said you have a stalker is wild. And this company actually said, forget about it then.
If you don't want to pay $300, we will take the job. Make that make sense. Cause they've taken
a $40,000 job because a customer that has privacy issues doesn't want to have to pay an extra $300
to stay private so okay it's a really I find this a really fascinating one for multiple reasons
firstly I want to approach this from the interior designer's perspective I don't agree with it
but I'm approaching it from the interior designer's perspective so we got caught with this
clause recently we did two big renovations on our Tony May shops and it wasn't until after the
renovation was finished that the interior designer who was amazing like zero criticism was like oh
we're coming to photograph the finished work and we want you to be in the photos and I was like
why? No, why? What? And she was like, well, it's part of it. Like that's in your contract. And I
didn't read the contract. It's the exact same clause. It's a very standard interior design
clause. What you have to remember, and I think taking this from the interior designer's perspective
firstly, they only get work based on their previous work. The only way in which this person,
so Melissa and Marie came across that interior designer specifically was based on the work that
they had created in the past, right? Photographs that they had taken of previous projects.
now some projects take a lot of work and take a lot of time so some interior design projects might
take a year might take two years like they are a huge a huge investment of that designer's time
and if that designer is unable to use that project to be able to leverage further work
at all down the track they might opt out of the job simply because it's two years or a year of
investment of time that they then can't accrue any additional work from in the future it's not an
investment of time. They've been paid for it. It's a job. Totally. But it could impact their
ability to take future work. So if you're saying, so if I have multiple jobs on option at the
moment, if I'm a very popular interior designer and I have six pictures that have been put on my
desk and five of them are saying, yep, you can photograph the work afterwards. And one of them
saying, no, you can't. I would probably not choose to work with that one. I would go, okay, well,
if that's too hard and you don't want me to photograph my work and I only have capacity
to take on four, I'm going to take on the four that I'm going to be able to leverage my future
work down the track. So what I'm saying is playing devil's advocate. I understand why interior
designers have this clause and why it's so important for them to be able to document their
work in the same way that as a jewelry designer, I need to document the work I do. So when I design
an engagement ring for someone, I photograph that engagement ring because that's where my future
orders come from. The thing I don't agree with here is that there was a very real and very
justifiable reason that was brought forward around privacy and privacy is something that should be
protected and everyone has a right to and someone shouldn't be penalized for the need for privacy
and i think that the company they made an error in the way in which they approach this they simply
could have said like oh you know what we've actually got a lot of work on our plate at the
moment and we've chosen different projects rather than saying we will not budge on this i think they
communicated it in a way that's made them look really bad i mean call me insane the interior
designer should be paid a full fee for their work, $40,000. And then they should say, hey,
can I pay you $300 for marketing and take your photo of your finished product in your house,
in your private property? It shouldn't be the expectation that the paying customer pays more
for their marketing. You employ somebody to do a job. You pay the $40,000 for their time. They've
done that job. You don't then get them to pay more on top for your marketing. Sorry, I don't care if
we think this is a standard clause it's backwards and needs to change i absolutely agree with that
i think that the opt-out should exist i don't think it should be a penalized fee it should be
to all the interior designers who are listening in order to negate this situation from happening
just bundle that into your actual fee so the person who's paying it doesn't realize that
they're getting charged an opt-out clause and then what you can say to someone is if they are
trying to say no they don't want that you go well we can give you a discount for that they're not
actually getting a discount it's just that you've bundled it into the additional fee already i just
I actually find this quite mind blowing. Like the most comparable situation I can think of is if you
like go to a hair salon and you are a full paying customer and they say, do you mind if I take a
picture of your hair for Instagram? You know, that's again, showing their work and showing
their creativity. I've always said, of course, not a problem. But if I turned around and said,
no, I'm not comfortable with that. I don't want to be on your Instagram account. And they told
me I had to pay more for my services. There is not a world that I can see that this is normal.
It's really weird to me that now the expectation in 2026 is that we have to pay for privacy of
ourselves. I think that that is slightly different. And the reason why this sits in a slightly
different category is because that is of your person. And I know that this kitchen is of her
personal space, but there is a slight difference to this. And the reason for that is, is the
interior designer could document a project and have zero identifying features as to where that
project exists there is no address that interior designer might do projects all over australia
like there isn't necessarily anything that's going to link it back to that person's home
the reason why it's different in this situation with this woman is because she films content in
her kitchen and so therefore it would be easy for someone to go oh that's that designer that's that
kitchen that's her kitchen whereas with a hairdresser that's your person that's of your
and on your body. So like, I would compare this to say like a builder, for example, who wants to,
at the end of the day, be able to say, hey, this is the project that we've been building for two
years. It would be quite a disadvantage to them if they'd done a project for two years and they
weren't able to share a single photo of that. That's two years of absolute silo. However,
I agree with you, Britt. I think that you should be paying for that right. You don't get to just
get marketing for free. When we want an influencer or I want to use someone's space or something,
I've got to pay them for that content it's been retrofitted in this instance and interior designers
should be paying for the right to use the images yes it's their work but it's that person's space
that they've been employed to do a job yeah two things on that one is that my brother is a builder
and his wife runs the business as well and there is not a there's not a world where they would not
ask for consent from a client to share stuff on you know the website or their instagram of the
things that they have done I know that they have spent a lot of time and you know a lot of work has
gone into it but at the end of the day they're compensated for that service in the fact that
they've charged for it and they've paid their staff for it the other thing that I find quite
interesting about this is that I actually think given the fact that they said well we're going
to withdraw the work we're not going to work with you if you're not going to pay this $300 fee
I actually think that they were more than aware of who this person was and I think that they were
using her brand to capitalize on the fact that they were like we've done this person's kitchen
which is evident by the fact like no one's giving up forty thousand dollars worth of work because
someone hasn't paid three hundred bucks you know in my mind I'm like they obviously only wanted to
do it because it was your kitchen even though you're a full-paying customer they wanted to
leverage your brand oh it gets weirder it gets weirder so basically she was like oh if you want
to take some photos of things being made and in the product or in the factories or different kind
like looking at the products and the tile whatever she's like that's cool but I just can't have a
full finished product that can be tied back to me because I do film in my house and then people can
say aha yeah that designer's from that small town here but it gets weirder because this content
creator did this reel where there was nothing identifying about who the interior designer was
nothing. She just told the story about the claws. And then the designer has come and said,
I'm going to go to a lawyer to sue you for defamation, which is, it's almost ironic because
she's sort of doing the same thing saying like, I should have a right to privacy. I can't believe
you've spoken about it. The content creator didn't mention any names. There is nothing to actually
tie to that person. And she has absolutely flipped on it. So I think, why is it okay in your camp,
but what you're doing to this person's okay. For me, it's just this feeling that there's a
right to people's privacy, whether it's their picture, like their identity, whether it's their
home, whether it's whatever it is, the fact that people feel like they just have a right no matter
what. And this isn't a normal situation. This isn't a normal woman saying, hey, I just don't
want to consent to photos. She's also put in a safety aspect that still wasn't okay for this
designer. But do you know why it sits as a slight gray area in this instance? It's because artistic
expression and artistic contributions belong to the artist. And so interior design falls within
to that space. So an interior designer, even though they've come into your space, what they've
created is essentially an artwork in your space, right? That's their job. So they actually have
some ownership over that creation. I'm not saying that they own the space, but they own some right
over the documentation of that in the same way, for example. So when I hire a photographer,
I find this crazy, but it's the truth. When I hire a photographer for Tony May, even though I pay
them $20,000 or $5,000 or $3,000, whatever it is for the campaign and for the images,
they will forever own those images. I can't alter them. I can't change them. I can't put
them into AI. I can't do a little retouch. They're not my images. I can use them for
commercial purposes, but I don't own them. Even though I art directed the photo shoot,
I hired the photographer. Sometimes I've even hired the photography equipment. I've hired
every single assistant. I've done everything, but they own the images. Or for example,
if you buy an artwork and you put that artwork up in your house, if you do a commercial shoot
in your house, you have to pay royalties because that artwork appeared in that commercial photo
shoot, even though you bought that artwork and you own that artwork. The artist who created that
artwork is entitled to royalties because their artwork appeared in a TVC or in a commercial or
in a photograph. So there are so many creative loopholes around this industry that I find
fascinating. Some of them make sense, some of them don't, but there's loads of these things
that exist yeah but sorry shame on the designer for not supporting a woman that came to you and
said I'm being stalked and I'm a paying customer please can you fucking do me a solid on this one
that's it it's just insane to me and I get what you're saying and I get all industries are
different but that adds a layer that I'm just not okay with something that I came across on
Instagram this week and I was sucked down the rabbit hole on this it was an Instagram post
that was put up by The Independent, and it says this.
Mount Everest guides are accused of poisoning foreign climbers
to force fake rescue scams in $20 million scam case.
Now, firstly, I read that.
I sent it to our content group, and I was like,
what the fuck is going on?
Imagine going to Mount Everest, getting halfway up the mountain,
and then getting stomach cramps so bad that you had to be rescued.
Imagine the effort that you've been to only to be scammed
out of the right to make it to the summit.
Well, do you know what?
it actually happens all the time. People are always having to get rescued on mountains for
different reasons, for like altitude sickness, tummy sickness. A lot of people link tummy sickness
to altitude sickness, which is what makes this case so interesting. So what has happened is
the guides with some of these trekking agencies allegedly that they have poisoned tourists by
putting baking soda into their food. And then high volumes of this baking soda combined with
the altitude is what has triggered these gastrointestinal distress symptoms. And so
once this person is having severe stomach pains the guides and the trekking agencies have pressured
the individuals into agreeing to costly emergency helicopter evacuations which with the operators
have then forged medical and flight documents which they have then billed back to their travel
insurers like the international insurers and it's been going on for a long time like 20 30 million
dollars worth right 20 us so yeah 30 million dollars worth of scams so far but the investigation
they've charged some this is well underway and when i first kind of found this i was like
it's 4 700 climbers that have been affected by this scandal it's so many people when you think
about the amount of people that go to mount everest imagine being one of these people from
2022 to 2025 you have a dream it's your life dream to go to everest to go and like walk around the
base camp or like get to midway or something and you get fucking airlifted out because you got
tummy pains and you're just shitting yourself because you but that's a lot as of I have some
stats here strap in as of December 2025 approximately 7,563 people have reached the
summit of Mount Everest that is nothing if you are saying 4,000 people have been affected and
maybe they're just base camp people maybe they're not the summit but that if you're saying 4,000
people have been affected that's a lot like that's total successful ascents 13,737 total successful
That's because not many people in the world are crazy enough
to want to fucking summit Everest.
Most people just want to walk around base camp.
That in and of itself, if you have ever done like the base camp,
you can get affected by altitude training just from walking
around the bottom of it.
That's how bad it is.
The overall summit success rate for attempts above base camp is 43%.
That's wild.
So not only were you going thinking that like your chances
are already slim because it's such a crazy dangerous mountain to climb,
but then you're getting poisoned with baking soda like on top of that.
I also think it's a real the reason why I got I kind of got sucked into this I feel like it's
really sad like and I'm not for the people who have been affected but I feel like it's really
sad for the optics of the Sherpas who work on this mountain because overarchingly the Sherpas
are amazing they're amazing they're amazing like I mean I went to Nepal I went to base camp I didn't
do it but I went there but I looked at a picture in the town I got a helicopter no I went there I
went there when I was like in my early 20s I had the most magical time I didn't have it in me to
actually do the base camp but we went with like a part of the tour group anyway the Sherpas are
seriously some of the most just wonderful lovely people they are so fucking helpful
they dedicate their lives to helping people on this mountain they risk their lives every day to
do this to think that there is a small number of them that have been very opportunistic or the
agencies themselves have been so opportunistic that it then reflects badly on these incredibly
I guess like what a challenging job they have chosen to do I just think it's such a fucking
shame do you know who i feel really sorry for the person that they or i guess i'm interested by
how the insurance companies proved it did they send people in being like we're gonna send you
in we're gonna see if you get poisoned with bicarb soda and if you have to be lifted out
do you know what tummy pain i reckon they would have figured it out by an increased spike in the
number of cases with the same types of claims because once the companies had realized like
what was it that they needed to do in order to get those claim backs through I would say that
that they were like oh why have we had like a increase of 50 percent of this exact same type
of problem you know and so then they would have done some investigation into it figured out the
forged paperwork and it kind of would have unraveled from there I just don't know if I
feel sorry for an insurance company yeah I don't either no it's not like I feel sorry for the
climbers it's not the insurance company anyone's feeling for but I want to be a voice of the
Sherpas for a second. I want to speak on behalf of them and this is a quote coming from the Sherpas
that have worked on the mountain. I have worked on Everest for years, rope fixing, guiding and
supporting real rescues. This is somebody from 14 Peaks Expedition. Most Sherpas risk their lives
to save others and not to exploit them, which is so true. These allegations circulated through
international print and electronic media are baseless and irresponsible. Now, I don't know
if that's true because I don't think they are baseless. I think it has sounds like it has been
investigated to an extent but you know what it does it you know what it does it really sucks
because mud sticks and when you hear something like a story like this like Sherpas have been
responsible for you know maybe it was one maybe it was 20 I don't know there are a lot of Sherpas
exactly like this Sherpa has said that are like we are literally risking our lives every day to
give these tourists the experience that they want like man what they are doing carrying and hiking
that day in and day out these are some of the most incredibly fit and kind and giving people
that have some of the hardest work on the planet.
It's sad for all of them to be potentially tainted by this brush.
Well, the thing is, with the quote that you just said
that came out of the Mountaineering Association,
also the Nepalese police, there has been some rebuttal
as to whether the poisoning incident has actually happened.
Look, there's a lot of information online.
Allegedly, allegedly, allegedly.
No, allegedly, don't say it.
No, there's a lot of conflicting information around this,
but the thing that has happened is that there has been agencies
that have been conducting quite an enormous scam.
what they're trying to say is like yes we were scamming them but we weren't poisoning people
however there's a lot of stuff that's pointing to the fact that it's actually truth at the end of
the day of course the Nepalese government the Nepalese mountaineering association don't want
any bad press to come out they need people to come to Nepal they need people to come and do
Everest it's one of their huge biggest tourist attractions so I understand why this has been
something that's like affected them quite deeply but I just thought fuck I was like the scams are
getting elaborate guys that was my take home in this whole thing here i was thinking it was just
australia post or like your nab account you're like we're gonna call you in five minutes give
you your pin but now it's like you're going to everest you can't escape it and trust no one
i want to finish off with something that i think is something everyone needs especially if you're
early throes of dating i thought this was satirical when i came across it there's two
things tied into one here i thought it was satirical i thought it was a joke it's absolutely
not and i think it could save a few people's lives we used to speak about this kind of stuff
a lot over the years when you think about you're in the early throes of dating you're in a one
bedroom apartment one bathroom you need to do poop you need to do number two when it's silent
the thought of having to go and have toilet sounds have the sound of the poop touching the
the toilet you know those really embarrassing moments the splash sound just like the drop just
the all you know you don't care grace a couple months in you don't care but those early days
where you're like i'm just gonna go to the toilet and you're like what do i do do i have to like
stuff it with toilet paper. You pat it down and you shit on top of the padding. I remember from
probably five years ago, like early days of the podcast. Back when our content was peaking. It
peaked, yeah. No, but I'll never forget we had this one person write in. It was one of the
accidentally unfiltered and they were early dating. They need to go to the toilet. They
stuffed the toilet with toilet paper first to stop the sound and then it got blocked. They did it and
they were at this guy's house. And I'll just never forget that moment. And it only didn't work
because they put too much toilet paper in.
So there is this company that has come up with, I guess, a workaround.
It's like a genius product is what we're calling it.
It comes in a little pink sachet and you just put it in your handbag.
When you need to go to the toilet, you put it into the toilet
and it's bright fluoro pink and it like almost bubbles up
and it forms a cushion.
It's a poo cushion.
And so it fills your toilet halfway.
You poo on it like a cushion.
and then you don't hear anything and then it also smells nice
and then when you flush it down, you would never have known
that there was a fluoro pink poo cushion in there
and you leave with no sound, with your dignity,
unless you were doing farts, with your dignity and it smells nice.
And I think what a brilliant idea.
It's kind of like a giant bath bomb.
You put it in as a bath bomb.
Yes, it's a bath bomb.
It's a toilet bomb and then it turns into foam
and the foam is dense enough that it protects the splashback of the poo.
So when you throw poo into it, well, actually the video
that we all came across it's not they're throwing like a rolled up bit of toilet paper but when you
drop into it the foam supports it so it doesn't hit the water it's a genius thing for first dates
i'm not i'm not really sure how much longevity this has as like a product in market it's called
poo powder but somebody thought about i'm glad we got there i'm like you finally remembered well i
was like what's it called it's called poo powder it's amazing how much does it retail for i don't
know i didn't look at the price you paying per shit so there's also been another thing that came
out this week. So I know we just talked about poo powder, but it kind of ties into this quite
nicely. And it's got fantastic marketing around it. It's called Shinesti Threads. I don't even
know if that's how you say it, but Shinesti Threads. It's a new product. It's either
Shinesti or it's a shine sty. It could be shine sty threads. Anyway, what they have created
is a pair of underwear for both men and women, like women's designed underwear and men's shaped
underwear. That is a fart proof underwear. I don't know what it's made of. I have no idea
how it's been comprised it's probably plastic glad wrap but it's scientifically proven to reduce up
to 99% of the fart smell the reason why I came it's called fart blocker it's the fart blocker
pennies the reason why I came across this is because the photography marketing around this
campaign is outstanding it is fantastic it's fantastic Keisha look at this sorry if you go
onto their website it's just on like people's bottoms like underwear and then it's got these
like little blue superimposed farts coming out but the actual photography like the campaign that
they've done is just a guy or a girl in their underwear wearing nothing else just the undies
and then it's silhouetted in the background with a great big shadow that you can see that's been
like kind of spotlighted onto the background and so in the front they're just standing there
looking totally normal but the shadow in the background has a shadow fart coming out of it
it's fucking brilliant guys you need to go and see it I'm going to put it in the show notes
fantastic marketing i got some info here fart blocking underwear uses activated carbon or
specialized washable fabric panels to trap and then neutralize the flatulence there's a few
different brands that do it there's also one called toodles which is a great name but it yeah
this is not sponsored we need i wish it was i wish it was guys but apparently it can handle odor
strength 200 times higher than typical emissions allowing for odor-free gas to pass thank you for
reading that out. Because I was like, how does it actually work? I, do you know what? I'm all
about this. There's nothing worse than a protein filled, super rank, stinky, unhealthy fart. Like
if you were doing that, hey, change your diet. Stop doing them, Brittany. Not me, but farts,
like I just, I'm not about them. You guys know how I feel about farts. But I wonder whether it
changes the smell of them, like the carbon actively changes or traps the smell, or if it
just like literally traps it inside. So when you take your underwear off, you just smell like a
fart. No, it just neutralizes. This brand just has fantastic marketing around it. That's what
I like the most rather than just the product, but like all of the marketing, obviously it's very
self-deprecating because of what it is as a product. It's tagline is release in peace.
Sorry, can I just? And I thought it was an April fool's joke when I first saw it,
but it's absolutely not. It is a true brand. It's going viral currently and it's a fart
blocking underwear brand. Please just let me tell you the instructions. You can't just walk
around willy-nilly farting it does say the best position to be in to enhance the fart neutralization
stand with legs together to maximize the filter's effectiveness and if you are sitting keep your
knees together as well so you can't just go like willy-nilly you have to if you're going to fart
you have to put your legs together but why well because you also want seal you need to make sure
there's no seal so the undies are like quite tight but it just says like for full effectiveness like
you're not going to cock a leg and still do it like you still got to like lean into the brand
a bit i wonder if there's like a pad or something in there if the whole thing is made of a material
that neutralizes the smell or if there's like a thing that's inserted fabric area that that's why
you have to be in a certain position in order so that it captures no i think it makes sense
these are just not the gas emissions that i care about like the planet's on fire
yeah sometimes it's nice to laugh keisha farting's contributing keisha farting's a part of that you
do your part. Stop farting. It's good
to laugh. Show up.
Guys, we'll put a link in
the show notes. It's
Life Uncut 10. Anyway, don't say we don't bring
you the hard-hitting stuff. If you've got a farting partner,
maybe they'll sponsor the pod. Send this
to Nkeesh. Probably not. I don't reckon this
brand needs any more advertising, to be honest. They're doing
pretty good. Guys, nom, nom, nom, nom.
