Life Uncut - Offcuts: The $1,000 Body Count Cleanse, The G-String Speedboat & What Would Make You Miss The Birth Of Your Baby?

Episode Date: July 17, 2026

Hey Lifers! Welcome to your weekend snacky snack! Laura's away, so Britt and Keeshia are holding down the fort and Britt has arrived dressed like Daphne crossed with Velma (sexy Scooby-Doo, knee-high ...stiletto boots). We get into the cost of being a short girl, the floor-drobe method of outfit planning, the sniff test, and a heated debate about exactly how many wears you can get out of a pair of undies. Then we get into it: That Ryanair flight where a window blew out mid-flight and a man was sucked halfway out of the plane while his wife held onto his ankles. Heated Rivalry's breakout star Hudson Williams was stalked through the streets of Paris to his private residence and his attempt to dramatically burn the stalkers' photos has gone viral. But why did the internet cheer him on when Chappell Roan was torn to shreds for doing far less in the same city? Kylie Jenner has fronted the new "Kylie Edition" Meta glasses; a discreet camera on your face with Kylie's voice as the AI. We get into the fascinating history of the Kodak Girl, how tech has been using women to make surveillance feel safe and desirable for 140 years, and why we think this collab is a genuine betrayal. The world's first Body Count Reset Centre has reportedly opened in Brazil. It’s a $1,000 spiritual cleanse to erase your past. Or, hear us out... you could just lie for free? And finally, Belgian star Jeremy Doku left the World Cup to be at the birth of his child. A French presenter called him a "completely useless" dad for it. With one of Ben's own teammates facing the exact same choice, Britt asked Ben the question directly: would you leave the World Cup for me?  TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Outfit confessions, the undies debate & the Maldives G-string farewell gift 8:06 — Man sucked halfway out a Ryanair window mid-flight 12:18 — Heated Rivalry's Hudson Williams confronts his Paris stalkers (vs Chappell Roan's treatment) 25:48 — Kylie Jenner x Meta glasses & how tech uses women to normalise surveillance 36:36 — The $1,000 Body Count Reset Centre in Brazil 41:31 — Would you leave the World Cup for the birth of your child? Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Brittany and I'm Keisha and I'm here for Offcuts today and this is the episode where we talk about all the stuff that's kind of a little more silly, it's a little bit light-hearted, it's intended to be a bit of a laugh, but Brittany has come in today dressed up like we're going on a date together. You look so hot. I want to start with that. You look so hot. I was wondering where you were going to go, but I'm glad you came back full circle because I am sensing a compliment sandwich. I think you're about to drop something and then compliment me again. You just look so polished and a little bit like you walked in and I was like, it's giving Scooby-Doo Daphne crossed
Starting point is 00:00:50 with Velma because it's Velma colors, but it's like Daphne sexy. And I'm wondering if you've done this for me Daphne Scooby-Doo Thelma I don't I'm not convinced and I'm shaggy you are you are today I don't know if this is a compliment but I look am I serving today you are serving maybe she's got these knee-high boots on that have like a stiletto heel that are no more than sorry no less than 10 to 12 centimeters I actually don't know what happened fluff on the bottom I think It's Delilah's hair, yeah. Actually, I think it is my dog's hair stuck into my stiletto. Yep, there she is.
Starting point is 00:01:30 A little furball. Look, I don't know what happened. I have never in seven years of this podcast worn a pair of heels to record this podcast. And today I'm basically European now. She's that girl that goes over for like a European holiday and all of a sudden comes back asking for a croissant. I got curtain bangs.
Starting point is 00:01:52 I've got heels. They don't do this in Madrid. No, like you would never wear flats in Madrid. But yeah, go to the YouTube. You look fantastic. Well, about my outfit today is that I found something I've complained about. It must have been a while ago now because a long time ago, a lifer messaged me. I'd said something about like the cost of being a short girl mean that every pair of
Starting point is 00:02:13 pants you order, you have to get them hemmed. And there was this one place down the road from where I used to live. I used to live in Paddington in Sydney, which is a very affluent suburb. like we were renting but it's a rich suburb and so I went to this alterations place I lived in this really rich area I mean I didn't own in the rich area I was renting in the rich area and I went down the street to see like I just inquired about getting a pair of pants just shortened one hem quite simple I thought and I was quoted 55 dollars and I nearly fucking fell over I was like the pants were only like 70 the pants were 25.99 anyway I found out that
Starting point is 00:02:50 a lifer messaged me not long after that about this tailoring place that's actually closer to my house now, and it's only $15 a pair. So I went in last week, I took in 10 pairs of pants, but these ones I think that they've got a little OTT and now they're too short. It's like a capri. Like, you know, they're like a mid-length, like mid-shin. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:09 They're cropped, but I don't think they're meant to be cropped jeans. These are going to be ultra, ultra low rise. You're going to be able to see pubic bones. Let me talk you through my shoes so quickly, my outfit. And I say that because it wasn't intentional. You know how sometimes I've never planned an outfit. I put something on and I build around it. Does that make sense? Like I don't get up and say, what am I going to wear? And I've never been able to think through an outfit. I put something on and then I build around it. So I'll put a t-shirt on. I'll be like, what would go with
Starting point is 00:03:40 a t-shirt? And they'll be like, oh, the skirt will go. And then I'll be like, oh, well those heels won't go. So I'll wear flat. So I build around it. Okay. Do you always start with like a particular item? Usually it was just on the floor. Like what did I leave out from yesterday? I'm also a frequent reuser. So I will, okay, this is what I do. You do a sniff test, don't you? I do a sniff test. I will wear, I will have a t-shirt and shorts, right? And if I haven't dirtied it, like if the shirt is clean and it doesn't smell, all I do is take it off and put it on the end of my bed. Oh my God, I'm about to admit something. Sometimes I wear it to bed as a bed shirt and then I get up and just wear my bed shirt as a shirt.
Starting point is 00:04:18 So sometimes I'm that lazy. I will wake up with like, if I sleep in a t-shirt, I just wake up and play on. Like I just play on that day. Do you know who's the most upset about this? Anyone with big boobs. Because we don't have the freedom of being able to do that. I can't leave the house without a bra on.
Starting point is 00:04:33 It would be inappropriate for society. I'd probably knock a couple people out. If I turn too quickly left, bang, out they go. I don't have that problem. But I reckon a lot of people do what I do. I think they don't plan it. They would sleep in their – I mean, maybe they don't sleep in their clothes. I think that's fine.
Starting point is 00:04:50 I think the only thing that I would really draw a hard boundary on are underwear. Yeah, but I am not opposed to the inside out fuck off. Yeah, I've done it lots of times. I actually do it on holiday. But why? So when I'm on holiday, I never – do you know what? I've got so many – Britt, you're not poor.
Starting point is 00:05:10 No, I can afford underwear, but I don't. Even Ben the other day said to me, he's like, tell me your bra size and your undie size. He's like, I'm going to go buy you stuff. He's like, you've, since I've known you, you've two bras. I just alternate between two bras. They're like brown and gross, but I just feel like if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And it's hard to find good. Anyway, I, on holiday, never seem to pack enough undies.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And I just went away on a holiday with Ben for four weeks, like a full month. And I didn't pack enough. And sometimes like I will wash undies in the shower, but if you're not going to be actually washing in a washing machine every pair of undies can get multiple days because you turn it inside out to the clean side for a day you can i don't care what anyone says absolutely not the absolutely not sorry i don't wear undies with my fucking body suits and i that's you you have it you only wear the body suit once yeah but you raw dog it you do not your underwear you said multiple days out of a pair of undies i've never this has changed my whole view of you
Starting point is 00:06:10 plural keisha more than one so just two i'm not wearing them for a week are you then selling them like that's not the intended you're like trying to get the smell really in there can i just tell you can i tell you something funny tell me if i've told you this i don't know if it made it to the podcast i remember it was supposed to make it to the podcast but i don't know if we just laughed about it as friends last year or the year before when ben and i went on a holiday to the maldives or the maldives as the people that actually speak properly say it when you packed a million white dresses because you thought you were getting, yeah, when I thought I was getting engaged and I didn't. That holiday. So in the Maldives, obviously, I shouldn't say
Starting point is 00:06:51 obviously, but you guys would know it's all these little islands, right? And then there's a mainland and anyway, we're on an island and the way you usually get to them is a speedboat. So they'll speedboat you from your island back to the mainland and that's where you fly out of. And I will never forget my mortification. We packed up and said our goodbyes and we got on the speedboat and the hotel speedboats you to the mainland and we got to the mainland and there was somebody from the hotel they're already waiting for us with a gift bag so they got an extra speed boat they got a speedy speedboat because somehow we left before them but they had sped ahead on another boat and they were meeting us there and they had a bag for us like a paper bag with the
Starting point is 00:07:32 hotel's name on it and I was like oh my god they're giving us a farewell gift I was like little gift pack with a magnet but they didn't really hang around or they weren't they just gave it to us and sort of like went and I was like that's so kind thank you so much anyway I opened it and it was just like a dirty old pair of my g-string that I had left in the hotel room that I guess it's like a hotel policy that you have to get something back and I looked at this gift bag and I was mortified I was like oh my god for you as a gift I was like throw it out burn it Something to remember me by. I was like, why did you speedboat my worn G-string back to me?
Starting point is 00:08:08 I was like, no. And it's not nice. It was like one of the ones that's just beige. Because you only had white dresses. Exactly. Anyway, I was bloody mortified. Speaking of travel, before we get into the content content, this is like a pre-content.
Starting point is 00:08:24 I don't know if you've seen the news, but this is like, it's not my worst nightmare. It is every person's worst nightmare. And I think it's the stuff nightmares are made of that you think you don't actually need to be afraid of because it's never going to actually happen like this is the stuff of a horror movie I hate that I'm going to name the airline but it's not alleged it was Ryanair I don't know if you've seen what happened there was a flight last week where no kiss you can't laugh this is crazy I can only laugh because I have read the story and the man
Starting point is 00:08:51 is okay lucky we've got to start with that so the man is okay we'll start with this but there was a Ryanair flight and they'd taken off and I think they were only about half an hour into the flight. It was pretty soon after. And the window of the plane flung out and the man, I'm not laughing because it's funny, I'm laughing in shock, the man got sucked out of the window and got stuck like his head and his chest and shoulders were out the fucking window.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Mate, there's a propeller in front of him. He's looking at his death. They're flying at however many miles an hour. He's passed out and his wife is 65. She is holding onto his feet, keeping him in the airline from getting sucked out the window. Sorry. I'm not laughing at the situation.
Starting point is 00:09:38 It's so, it is so outrageous. Outrageous. And of course it happened on Ryanair. For anyone who has never flown with Ryanair before, they're the ones that if you're like 20, this literally happened to me on a Ryanair flight. My suitcase was 20.1 kilos. Oh, it's $1,000.
Starting point is 00:09:54 They tried to charge me. I was like, no, I'm going to take something. And they were like, no, no, you can't. I was like, I absolutely can take out 100 grams from a suitcase. They tried to charge me for 100 grams worth of oversized luggage. It is like a budget airline. At one point, they floated the idea of potentially having passengers stand on the plane. Yeah, they were going to take seats away and offer like cheap standing flights where you have to stand like sardines.
Starting point is 00:10:21 And I don't know if this is completely factual, but I feel as though I read in an article that a part of the engine broke off and flicked up and hit the window. And that's actually how the window got dislodged and how this man shot out. I think it's irrelevant how. It doesn't bother me if the engine flung out or if a screw came out, whatever. The window, he got sucked out alive. Yeah. He apparently was in and out of consciousness a few times.
Starting point is 00:10:46 This poor wife is holding onto his feet. Lucky he had a belt on or his trousers might have flapped right off. I mean, this is why they tell you to put your seatbelt on even if it's the no seatbelt time. Well, and then apparently she was holding on for dear life for two to three minutes and then some other passengers who also can't unbuckle their seatbelt but were like leaning over to help this man and keep him in. I just can't believe it. But the thing is, Keish, I know we say it's – we laugh and we say it's a budget airline.
Starting point is 00:11:11 It is. But it's also not. It's a standard – it's not an airline that you – And it still has to pass aviation. Yes, budget airline. It doesn't mean like you may or may not make it. Sign the waiver. Like it doesn't mean that it's like they just send it out without testing.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Do you reckon that when you do actually, because, you know, no one reads the terms and conditions. We all just sign away. There's a fine print. There's a fine print. If your window does somehow blow out and your wife has to hold your feet, we're not liable. That's on you.
Starting point is 00:11:40 That was a risk that you took. I don't know. There's got to be a lawsuit. But like Ryan, I fly with them all the time in Europe. Anyone that's listening that's been to Europe, You would have heard of them too. They are the airline that they have so many flights between countries. It's like it is the airline that you just book.
Starting point is 00:11:54 They're kind of the pigeons of the sky. What did we say now? They're the pigeons of the bird world. I actually reckon Wizz Air is worse. Or Scoot. There's actually quite a few. Europe has some real bangers. We're never getting sponsored.
Starting point is 00:12:08 But I don't want to be sponsored by Ryanair. They could suck the window. I would. I happily would. We've all got a price and I would stand. Keisha's like, I will take the windowless seat for half price. As long as I can have 20.1 kilos of baggage. First cab off the rank, we are talking about heated rivalry,
Starting point is 00:12:29 but not in the way you think. We're only four months late. Before everyone's like, good one, life on cut. I do need to put my hand up and admit I have not seen heated rivalry. I'm probably, I don't know what you'd say, one or two percent of the population at the moment that hasn't seen it. But the main breakout star, Hudson Williams, is going viral at the moment, not for the show, but for an interaction he has had in Paris with a paparazzi. And now you guys remember, or maybe you don't if you listened, a little while ago we were speaking about Chapel Roan's running with a paparazzi and there was such a big kerfuffle off the back of that and a lot of public discourse, a lot of opinions on how you should react and what you should expect if you are somebody in the public eye.
Starting point is 00:13:13 I even remember Boy George saying something basically along the lines, and I'm paraphrasing this because I don't remember the exact quote, but it was essentially along the lines of like, it's the price of fame. Yeah. If you want, you have to engage. Like, and he was kind of telling Chapel Roan to just be a little lighter on it and just kind of enjoy it for what it was. And it was quite condescending at the time. I think the sentiment from Boy George was really like, enjoy the ride, girl. Like, it's not going to last forever. Just, you know, which is condescending.
Starting point is 00:13:40 And we did have an interesting discussion off the back of that over what is and isn't okay, what is and isn't expected, who's in the right and who's in the wrong. And everyone is always going to have a very strong opinion on that. But what I think is interesting now is seeing this running that Hudson has had on the streets of Paris. It was filmed by these photographers who were, they weren't really paparazzi. It does seem like they were proper stalking him. Like, I don't think their job was paparazzi.
Starting point is 00:14:06 I could be wrong. I think they were just hectic superfans. And the public discourse off the back of this seems to be polar opposite to the response that Chapel Roan experienced. I want to play the video so you can hear how Hudson reacted. Now, this is very serious because you can see and hear, and we'll link you the actual video. Maybe we'll pop it up on Instagram, but you can physically see he's distressed. He's had enough. It's obviously been going on for a very long time and they have followed him to his private residence he's with a group of people maybe some people that work with him they're all females
Starting point is 00:15:12 and so I don't know how much has gone on in earlier in the day he's obviously at his wits end there is something and I we were laughing but I don't it is a very like us to take the piss no it's a very funny moment he did try to stand his ground he basically these people came up with big printed out pictures of him and they were begging him to sign it and he takes the pictures they're a4 they're big it's almost in like a manila folder kind of thing yeah yeah it's like laminated or something i don't know they were very thought out fireproof and he maybe he uh he takes the pictures and he takes this like big black pen that they're like a texter and he pegs the texture out of the screen like across the street of paris and then he tries to have this
Starting point is 00:15:57 really dramatic moment where he pulls a lighter out and he's like i'm burning this and he starts trying to light the the lighter and and set these pictures on fire and it doesn't light he tries three times my immediate thought was because I was like go Hudson he is never going on celebrity survivor he would not he would not withstand a fire making challenge if his life depended on it he can't start a fire with a lighter he's not starting with sticks he just must have been so pissed off and I'm not laughing at the situation I actually think it's really cooked and I'm sure we're going to get into what our opinions of paparazzi in general are but this was because he's not physically threatened like there's not a part of me that's worried for his
Starting point is 00:16:33 taking. I understand his frustrations, but the reason I feel okay laughing about certain aspects of it is because I don't actually think he was threatened in this situation. Another thing I find quite humorous about it is that there's this one particular shot that one of these like stalker guys, they've all gotten out of a van. There's some that are on bikes. There's like a number of them. It's like a mob. Yeah. And they're filming him and there's the cobblestone streets and there's three women that have suitcases and multiple bags. And then there's a girl who kind of appears to pick up the pictures that didn't burn and try and give them back and she's like sorry but like leave us alone yeah all part of Hudson's team they're all carrying multiple
Starting point is 00:17:12 bags and Hudson is not carrying a single thing and I'm like go off you diva chivalry is dead the part that gets me it's not just that he doesn't carry anything when all the girls are struggling the part that gets me and I'm not saying that to give him shit like whatever it's hard pulling a suitcase over cobblestones it might be what they're employed to do who knows but And the funny thing for me is that he tries to be dramatic and like light these photos on fire three times, doesn't work. So he storms off. Then he thinks about it again.
Starting point is 00:17:42 He's like, I'm not done yet. So he turns around and goes back and he's still yelling at them, being like, leave, like, which is fine. So then he tries to have his moment again and he tries to burn the photos again. And then he goes, I'll just burn them at home. I'll burn them later. It's a take home situation. You can burn them later.
Starting point is 00:18:00 I just thought it was so funny. Yeah, but it does – and, I mean, as you said before, it really does raise a question about where the line is of harassment with paparazzi. And I actually heard them talking about this a while ago. It was about the Chapel Roan situation that happened in March on the Restless Entertainment podcast, and they spoke about how the Paris paparazzi of anywhere in the world
Starting point is 00:18:21 are apparently the most physically threatening and essentially the worst. And, like, that's coming from people who are in the UK. I thought the UK would be the worst. Also, you think about, like, Princess Diana. like they just seem to really knock it like an understanding of consent and still to this day i think that when you think about paparazzi even 20 years ago there seemed to be a little bit of a it was like a currency exchange you know you kind of had to deal with the fact that you were going
Starting point is 00:18:51 to get papped but you kind of may have made a bit of a deal with the devil where you might have benefited from that whether you were a musician or an actor or like however it kept you culturally relevant. It seemed as though the juice may be worth a squeeze. That has just completely changed now with social media, because if you want to interact with people, you can just pull out your own video. Everything can be completely consensual and it can be on your terms. It can be done in exactly the way that you want to do it. You can go viral on your own now. You don't need these people to follow you around and take your photos. And also you can profit yourself. Whereas the paparazzi culture was all, it's going to be this person. I even heard a podcast speaking about this
Starting point is 00:19:27 recently how they spoke about beck hewitt being on the front of covers and that they would always put beck hewitt on the front of the cover because she would sell and i just remember thinking like wow that's so crazy she had no control over that and she also didn't make a dime like she didn't make a single dollar by these businesses profiting off of her and writing whatever the hell they wanted and it's just kind of weird to me that in 2026 it is actually surprising to me that we don't have more laws around paps like it's such a weird thing when you genuinely think about it this is someone who is legally allowed to go and take a picture of you write whatever headline they want make money off of it and there's nothing you can do about it like it just seems quite
Starting point is 00:20:09 strange but it's not even the taking a they're allowed to take a picture of you it's that they follow you around all day to your home and and no one cares about me anymore i don't get paparazzi'd anywhere but there was a phase that one time that i got papped with you it's one of the most embarrassing moment of no that was the other time oh no i know the time let's not speak about that no it's so embarrassing but it's so funny we have to it was very unflattering of everyone involved yeah so we had to do a brand brief it was actually for life uncut there was a sponsor and i was like i'll take a picture of this for you because it was a sponsorship for the yeah so Keisha was shooting me and and then the paps took pictures of me taking pictures of Brit
Starting point is 00:20:51 and showing her the photos and being like is this one I think it's more embarrassing for me I'm the one that's like you know when you go look at a phone you like take another one there's one where I'm like I'm bending at such an angle because I was so committed to getting a decent picture and I'm like the dignity has just left the building well this is the thing right like like I said no one cares about me anymore I don't get papped which is whatever I don't care I never cared never said a pap shop in my life never will but there was a time many moons ago where they would wait outside my house that's fucking weird and I hated that because I lived alone and so it made me very uncomfortable knowing that because there's no paparazzi that I know in Australia that are
Starting point is 00:21:30 women and I don't know about other countries but like every single paparazzi that I know in Australia is a man and it used to make me very uncomfortable that they were men It's also really weird to me. I saw this recently when all the drama was going on with Jackie O. They were taking pictures of her front door. Yeah. And I was like, how is that legal? Like, it's utterly bizarre to me that that's okay, that you can just publish a photo and
Starting point is 00:21:53 make it publicly available, like what the front door of someone's, and you can take photos inside people's homes. It's just, it's so strange. I think the comparison here is really interesting between Hudson's experience and Chapel experience which was also in the same city in March of this year so it's not that long ago so some of the response and when you think about it just to remind you so Hudson here is like I mean I don't know if I can say he's yelling he's raising his voice he's saying that like they're gross and disgusting telling him to get lost he's trying to burn stuff he's equally like
Starting point is 00:22:25 waving his arms and it's not threatening but it's not soft and polite either he's making it known that he wants these guys to get fucked when you look at chapel roans her experience was she was filming the interaction on her phone and she said when you're disregarded as a human this is what it's like so that was her moment which by all accounts sounds a lot more it was a lot more soft it wasn't as threatening seems to be i mean quote unquote a more polite interaction i don't know how you would want to word it but there's a big difference i think but the difference in the response online is astronomical like everyone's like supporting hudson for like knowing his boundaries and like you do you oh you can see he's visibly shaken and all of these things and
Starting point is 00:23:12 for chapel it was the exact opposite it's always or a brat brat like this is what you expect like you need you deserve this kind of thing like suck it up princess blah blah blah blah and she just got absolutely torched I mean it's nothing new we always think I don't want to say won't someone think of the women but won't someone think of the women like women just have it so much harder it doesn't matter what you do and I think this is an amazing side-by-side comparison I completely agree and I really hate that my mind sometimes jokes pop into my head and I'm like that's so inappropriate stop thinking that but this one I just can't I'm just picturing Chapel Brown coming out of a restaurant with like a fire twirler fully like get away from me the fire twirler to light all
Starting point is 00:23:54 of the photos of her that these stalkers have like completely engulfed them in flames but you know that the only thing i i do i i think i said it in the other episode when we're talking about chapel and it doesn't mean i think it's okay but it is a truth is that you do have to expect it if you're going to go into the public eye because historically we know that that is a part of that culture we know it if you are going to become uber famous you are going to have an extra amount of interest with you and you know people are going to want to follow you and take you know we know there's crazy fans we know there's crazy paparazzi now just because you expect it doesn't mean it's okay but I do agree with the sentiment of some people saying like what did you expect you're
Starting point is 00:24:36 the biggest thing in the world right now but where is the boundary and I think what the boundary is and what I hate it is okay there were five people that were following him around that were begging for photos and filming it is highly inappropriate where it should have stopped is when he pleaded with them to now stop you've been doing it all day you're at my private home now fuck off that's where even a paparazzi needs to have some respect and be like yeah you know what I have been tailing you for eight hours you win but they don't have that they cross the line so when I say there's an expectation the expectation needs to come with some respect some basic human respect well I think that that's the fundamental thing is that they don't have the same understanding of consent
Starting point is 00:25:17 and that's actually a bigger conversation where it's like why don't you have an understanding of consent you were the one who just said i don't know a single female paparazzi in australia i'm sure that there are some i am not aware of any i've never seen one and we've been at a lot of media events where there are people there are but yeah but my point being like there's that lack of understanding of being in someone's space and approaching into their private time and their private residence and all that kind of thing. And it brings us onto what I wanted to talk about. So this story actually broke while we were away on break and we tossed up talking about it on Wednesday and we both thought, oh, it might feel a little bit old by now. It's got to do with the
Starting point is 00:25:54 meta collaboration of the meta glasses with Kylie Jenner. Then I saw a video from a girl named Miranda Does Brands that we're going to get into that I found utterly fascinating about the way that our cultural perceptions of what is cool and what is not okay can shift so quickly by using women. So these meta glasses, if you haven't heard of them before, they came out a couple of years ago and they were touted as being really dorky and really ugly and very obvious that they were meta glasses. They're the ones that have got a camera in them that can film and take photos often without people knowing there is a light in them that is supposed to illuminate when you're taking or recording footage. I think when you say like they're really obvious that they were
Starting point is 00:26:34 metaglasses yes and no they were really obvious in the terms of there was only one style and shape so if you knew them they were but it's not like they're walking around with a big camera on them and a big sign that's like hey this could be filming you like even just on holiday just gone a friend of mine came to visit and we just went about our day hanging out and then at the end he sent me some shots he's like hey got these from my metaglasses today and I was with him in the day and I said I did not and I would like to think of myself as a pretty cluey like pretty you know and this is somebody I was conversing with all day and I said you had meta glasses on all day and it was like yeah they're so good for photography and stuff and I was shook that
Starting point is 00:27:20 I did not notice and then it made me think wow how many people are doing things the wrong things you guys can all use your imagination on what people are doing with these glasses I thought If I didn't notice and I'm with you, no one's got any chance. So how did he actually get it to take photos? Can you like tap or is it all voice command? You can tap it. I think it's also voice command. And I think you can link it to like a watch or something.
Starting point is 00:27:43 That could be a lie or link it to your phone or something. But I think you're supposed to tap maybe. I don't know. I'm never going to own a pair of men in glasses. Wow. That is absolutely blown my mind. So this new version of them, they've done this collaboration with Kylie Jenner. They're called the Kylie Edition.
Starting point is 00:27:58 They retail for $3.99 US and it includes Kylie's voice as an AI chatbot from these glasses. You can have a discrete camera that records videos and photos on command. The style of these glasses is objectively cooler. They look a lot nicer. They look a lot more fashionable and who better to get to advertise them than Kylie Jenner. Now onto this video from Miranda Does Brands. I found this completely fascinating and I think it is a real parallel with the way that we currently view meta glasses and the way that meta wants us to view meta glasses meta's
Starting point is 00:28:33 collaboration with kylie jenner is the exact same marketing strategy that kodak used when the portable camera was first invented there was a lot of anxiety around cameras at the time people felt that they were a violation of privacy even calling them detective cameras kodak's response was to launch a campaign about the kodak girl they flooded the media with images of young women carrying cameras on holiday into picnics associating it as a tool for female leisure and family memory making This is a pattern that's repeated itself throughout history, where tech relies on women to make new technologies feel safe and desirable. Because women have unique cultural leverage, they're the primary arbiters of lifestyle culture and aesthetics. Women influence both men and women, whereas men predominantly influence other men.
Starting point is 00:29:09 It's why Alexa and Siri have female voices. It's why AI companies are currently heavily investing in female parenting and cooking influencers. Tech knows it needs women to make things feel desirable, and that hasn't changed in the past 140 years. It makes sense. Advertisers are always advertising to women. and with women and it's two women because women are the people in the household that purchase like we have stats on that we've done many many surveys but generally speaking women make the decisions in a household women usually blanket statement are the person that controls the buying of certain things i mean maybe not meta glasses but things that a household might need so women
Starting point is 00:29:47 have always been targeted with marketing i wonder in this sense by using kylie is it just because they know men are the people that are going to be buying meta glasses and it's not that Kylie's to sell to women as it's Kylie's to sell to men but also make women feel more comfortable with it I think that they've used Kylie to shift perception from women I don't think they're going to have a problem selling these to men particularly men who have the wrong intentions like they're the men that we don't want to be buying these they're the men that we don't want these to exist because of because they're predators men cannot believe their luck but If you think about someone who has so much cultural relevance and has the ability to
Starting point is 00:30:26 shift perceptions of something, I would struggle to think of someone who would be able to harness that, particularly with women a little bit younger than us, more than what Kylie Jenner could. I, generally speaking, she's probably one of my favorite Kardashians. I'm not a Kardashian. I'm not a big Kardashian person. I didn't grow up watching all of this series, but I like Kendall and I quite like Kylie. this makes me dislike her a lot more because I want to know her why I want to understand the
Starting point is 00:30:55 why you're a billionaire like you do not need this cash grab you do not need whatever amount they're paying you even if it was a ludicrous amount and we were discussing this and Keisha said yeah you know money sells money talks yeah money talks sorry which I get money absolutely talks but when you're a billionaire you do not need it and when you're a billionaire that is one of the most famous people in the world who has spoken before about privacy issues and paparazzi and then you've decided to take a huge sum of money to front an issue that you have always said you have had a problem with oh the hypocrisy is disgusting and she's got kids which you know like let's call a spade a spade we know the huge amount of creeps that would be purchasing these
Starting point is 00:31:38 glasses and we know what they're doing with those glasses i also think there's just so much privilege wrapped up in it like she's the one who hid an entire pregnancy she's the one who said that there are paparazzi out the front of her gate whenever she leaves her house but she has the option of living in a house with security and with gates that are so big that you can live and i don't know if they're able to get photos inside of your house she lives with the privilege of being able to push herself away from the public and have a relatively private life when she chooses to advertising these glasses and the fact that they will be able to infiltrate public life where people do not have those parameters and those security measures it is utterly disgusting
Starting point is 00:32:17 to me like I genuinely think that it is such a betrayal of other women and a betrayal of your own values like don't get me wrong I'm the first to say that I do a lot if a lot of money is offered but there are certain lines that I would not cross no matter what the price that I was offered to do a particular collaboration or advertisement of I know that there are a lot that exists for you and Laura on this podcast how many zeros are we talking about I would say that I actually require ones were less than most people yeah but a million dollar this is the thing right a million dollar collab for meta glasses to the average person i can see why they're gonna do it because what they're gonna say is hey they're releasing the glasses anyway i'm gonna front this and take a
Starting point is 00:32:55 million dollars a million dollars to kylie jenner is the equivalent of five cents to us yeah and we don't know what the price was oh no i could have offered her a billion and many men i'm sure are gonna roll their eyes at this as they always do but women have enough to think about in their day to day about their safety. Every time you go outside on your own, every time the sun goes down and you're like, oh, I still have to walk to my car. And you hold your keys between your fingers. When you hold your fingers, your keys between your fingers, when you having to run to a taxi rank and you're the only person in the cab rank, when like all day and not just at nighttime in the dark, in the daytime too, you want to go for a run. Can I put my headphones in? Will I be
Starting point is 00:33:33 able to hear if someone comes behind me? Like these are all considerations that we think about every day we don't also then want to have to think about every single person that's wearing a pair of glasses or sunglasses and what they could be doing with that 100 it's insane and meta's pushed back and said that there's a apparently a light that illuminates when uh when it's recording or when it's taking photos i mean brit you were with someone and you didn't even notice it's not a firework it's not like apparently there are like youtube videos that have hundreds of thousands of views teaching you how to disable that light within 10 minutes. You can also just put a sticker on top of it. Like it's just, it's a world that I just cannot believe. And I'm actually disgusted
Starting point is 00:34:14 by the fact that Kylie Jenner signed up to do this collaboration. The one thing that I do want to say is, and it's hard because the story I'm about to tell you is a story I read that happened in the UK a couple of weeks ago, is great, is brilliant. It's something positive that came off the back of it. But I think you need to weigh up the risk factors. There was this guy in the UK who basically he was walking down the street in the daytime and there was a girl, there were these two guys that had like council worker shirts on, like you could see that they were employed to be doing whatever they're doing. And they were talking to a young teenage girl. He said, I could just sense, I just wanted to check it out. So he walked over and he's like, Hey, is everything okay?
Starting point is 00:34:51 What's going on? And she's like, they're trying to find me. They were like, apparently the UK in some towns now have i can't remember the name it's the equivalent of like the morality police but it's like if you spit or if you're like a ranger yeah that they're employed by a third party that the council has employed so it's not direct council it's a third party that the council has employed and so they were saying this girl had spat in the street we're finding her and she's like i didn't and he said walk away you do not have to pay this they are not from the council and walk away now these two quote-unquote council workers and this guy got into a really big tussle and these men were really threatening basically saying we're going to kill you we're going to
Starting point is 00:35:32 come back the second we take these off and we're going to kill you and all these threats and he had meta glasses on and the whole thing was recorded and because of that he was able to go report these men to the police and to the council and whatever else and they were i mean sacked reprimanded charged whatever that is like a rare case where i was like oh cool the Meta glasses came in handy. I was so lucky he had that or who knows what could have happened. You want to know who made that video go viral? Meta.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Yeah, exactly. It probably didn't even happen. It's probably an actor. It's good. I probably just got sucked in. They probably used Meta AI to make the entire clip to tell you that actually their glasses are fantastic. Produced by Kylie Jenner.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Trust no one. We've spoken a lot in the past about how I feel as though I've entered a new chapter of my life. And a previous chapter of my life involved a bit of promiscuity. I'm not here to shame myself. I love the way you say that. A little sprinkle. But I'm quite relieved because I came across an Instagram post and I'm just going to read
Starting point is 00:36:34 it to you. World's first body count reset center reportedly opens in Brazil. It's now starting at just $1,000. Hang on, you have to actually explain what this is. It says a retreat in Brazil is going viral for claiming that it can help people reset their body count through a spiritual ceremony. The experience combines rituals, meditation, counseling, and symbolic cleansing practices intended to help participants
Starting point is 00:36:59 let go of shame or emotional baggage tied to past relationships. And there's a thousand more. While many people online are calling it a body count reset, the ceremony doesn't literally erase someone's past or change reality. It serves as a personal or spiritual fresh start for those who choose to participate. Sorry, would you not just save $1,000 and lie? Do you know what I love about this?
Starting point is 00:37:25 It says it's starting at $1,000. Oh, it's like a package. Is it like a do you have to self-report how many people you're trying to cleanse yourself of and does the price go up or down from that? It costs more. Okay. Why are people not lying?
Starting point is 00:37:39 Like, sorry, let's set the scene here. You do not need to lie, none of us, and no one should care what your body count is. Live your best life. And if you don't know what it is, that's also fine. Totally. If you forget, also fine. Sometimes it's nicer to forget.
Starting point is 00:37:56 If you've chosen to forget, that's fine. But I just wonder, I wonder why people, if you were that concerned about it, that you needed to go to Brazil, pay a thousand bucks for someone to splash water on your face and say you're cleansed, just lie about it. If you don't want it, like why are you not just lying to your partner? If you think that you don't, like just fuck it, why? No one's making you say anything. If you've been living in sin already, what's one more?
Starting point is 00:38:23 Do you know what? Like we laugh. The sad part of this is that there are people that are wanting to do that because society and people are shaming them for it. And that's the sad part. The fact that this is – there really is a business for everything. But the fact that this is a business that you can spiritually pretend you've never had sex because people are shaming you
Starting point is 00:38:41 and saying you've had too much sex is insane to me. I think it's quite funny. My favorite comment. Keisha signed up. Keisha, 20. I'm like, where in Brazil is there a Ryanair flight that can take me there standing up? Because she will get sucked out of the window to get there. My favorite.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Maybe that's a part of the cleanse. My favorite comment was, I don't need to spend $1,000 to lie about my roster. That had 15,000 likes. There was another comment that said, there really is a gap in the market for everything. And this particular comment I was quite a fan of. I get a new lining every month, so it resets. I don't get that one. I get a new line.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Period. Oh, like I'm on board with that. That feels like a baptism of your past experiences. If you don't have a uterine lining that could remember who has been inside of it, does it count? That is so true. You're literally shedding. You shed. That's why we get periods.
Starting point is 00:39:34 I bet you, I can guarantee you, there's no men at this spiritual reset camp. I bet you. No, they're lying to get in. The men? There was actually a study that said something. I can't remember the exacts of it so like don't quote me we're not investigative journalists I don't even reckon this is real I remember there being a study that basically said that it is most common that women will under report like they will you know number down and men will over
Starting point is 00:39:59 report by something like 50% I don't remember because it's not important to me yeah it's never important like I remember people I know that used to keep a list and like if that's your jam that's great if you want to by all means weirdly i don't know why and i don't know what this says about me weirdly people that have a list makes me feel weird i'm like like i wish i could know your why like do you want to go back and look at it do you want to reminisce is it i don't know i find it unusual that people would want to have sex and when they leave they're like bob doggy style from from the rsl my favorite bit would be like what are the names that you give certain ones if it's like Sorrento one, Sorrento two.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Like Ben for ages. When we just had sex, Ben was just Ben Socorrea. That's what it was. And we were together for a year and he saw my phone. He was like, am I still Ben Socorrea? And I'm like, yeah. He's like, you need to change that. But the people's list like that.
Starting point is 00:40:54 He's like, it needs to be Ben Football, Rhea. Keisha's would be Ravisi's Wednesday, Ravisi's Friday, Ravisi's Saturday. It's okay. I've got a trip to Brazil coming up. The last thing I wanted to talk about is for a few reasons. One, if you've missed it, the World Cup is on right now. So semifinals and finals, like we are at crunch time. It's coming home, baby.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Well, I don't reckon it is coming home. I don't reckon it's England. I hope so. Anyone that, yeah, I don't think England's got it. When is the final? Actually, when would we know if they've gotten through? We're recording this on Wednesday this week. I think tomorrow will be the final.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Ooh, by the time this comes out. Sorry, we could be a bit behind the ball. I actually don't know, but when we've recorded, we don't know. But no, the other thing I wanted to talk about is because somebody in Ben's team is playing and this has happened to him. So there was a moment that went viral. It was a couple of weeks ago now, but it has been like an ongoing conversation. There's a Belgium star called Jeremy Doku, I'm not sure how to pronounce that.
Starting point is 00:41:59 And he actually left the World Cup to go back to his wife for the birth of his child. and that in itself, he was a player. So in football, you're starters or you're not starters. So you either start on the pitch when the whistle goes, or you're on the bench and you might get substituted in later. So he was a starter, which means he was pretty crucial. And to be at the world cup is just such a huge thing to footballers. Like you work so hard for it. It's the thing that you really want to be a part of. And the thing that so many players dream of. And so for him to say I am actually going to miss some football to go back to the birth of my child was a really big thing. Now, there was a French journalist that made some of the most disgusting comments that
Starting point is 00:42:45 I have ever heard. She was actually on TV when she reported on it. And I want to read it out to you. She did say it in French. I was trying to find a video where it's like translated to English. I'm on today 560 of Duolingo French. I don't know if you, I don't know. I think you're more like, for one coffee and a cup of tea. Hey, I thought I could say that. And I was telling people I had 27 anuses. So, I mean, 37.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Wow. I just lost 10 years. So this was a conversation on a French sports network called L'Equipe. And the presenter was France Pierron. Now I want to read you the quote, exactly what she said. There are hundreds of footballers who would love to be in his position. it is truly a special moment a childhood dream come true you're living out a childhood dream yet you're going to walk away from it all to attend the birth of your child a disgusting
Starting point is 00:43:39 moment if you'll pardon the expression where the dad is completely useless then they had a discussion off the back of that but she continued to say like the wife the woman should be doing it on her own he's not needed at most what he'll hold her hand that is what she was saying and that was the premise and it started this really big conversation in and outside of the football world. And one of Ben's teammates is playing over there at the moment, Leo. He is playing for Norway. And his first child was born. I met his wife, like she was very pregnant when we were over there recently. And I knew we could work out the timings. We're like, oh no, it's going to happen in the World Cup. And he didn't go. He watched the birth on FaceTime. And it's interesting
Starting point is 00:44:20 because there are a few different parts to this to unpack. It's not just that a player gets a choice so some players really really want to go and be the birth of the child they're like I don't care how big a moment this is for sport this is my child being born for the first time my wife needs me there my partner needs me they're like I'm gonna go that's one thing but the coach is the person that lets you go so if they don't want you to go you don't go and it looks like that's what happened to Ben's teammate Leo he it seems he wasn't allowed to leave whereas for Jeremy Doku this player his coach was like yeah if you want to go like there's nothing more important than being at the birth of your child and I think the interesting question here is because there was a
Starting point is 00:45:03 lot of pushback from fans around the world supporters of the team and the nation sports presenters just a lot of individuals that put their two cents in what is the expectation that we have on athletes that are representing our country like is the expectation that we expect them to miss the biggest moments of their life for a sporting moment because we will then put the blame on them for example if they miss that one match and that team gets knocked out and they lose are we then going to blame that one person for choosing a family moment over a sporting moment because I understand that people get so passionate about football and the world cup is representing a nation and every nation gets behind their teams like it's amazing to see
Starting point is 00:45:47 but it's the expectation that they sacrifice every other thing in their life for that moment I actually feel as though I previously would have had judgment if they hadn't have left and gone and watched their child be born and now I feel a little bit more in the middle where I kind of I don't know it's a bit of a wishy-washy answer but I'm like it's really up to what you and your partner decide if your partner says that they want you there you should be there if you and your partner speak about it and you agree together that you've worked for your entire life like a lot of these a lot of these players have literally been training for that moment to represent their country since they were children literal children and that might be the top of their bucket list
Starting point is 00:46:31 it actually might be something that is higher on the bucket list than witnessing the birth of a child like and some parents don't get to witness the birth of their child for other reasons that are not as like respected I guess or maybe it's not their choice that they can't be there or you know circumstances can happen where you go into labor early and like you know there are parameters where I'm like oh I feel so sorry that you missed that beautiful moment that a lot of people I obviously don't have children of my own but a lot of people talk about it as being one of the moments of their life that they literally felt their entire personality change yeah and I have a friend who has actually said that when he saw the birth of his child he was like every single thing that
Starting point is 00:47:12 felt important to me wasn't vanished the baby became the only thing that I actually gave any care about and I just realized that I would do whatever I could to protect this baby so to me I understand that for some sports people it might be in their minds they might be like no it's worth it for me and that is a choice that I'm making and I don't have any judgment of that anymore I previously would have because I would have been like be there for your partner like that's such a shit thing to do to your partner but now I feel a little bit differently how do you feel I mean this is something that yeah Ben's gonna go play for Switzerland if you could play for Australia that'd be great yeah that'd be fun I uh I actually asked Ben I said if you were at
Starting point is 00:47:56 the world cup and i was giving birth and i was our first child would you do a jeremy and leave and come and see me or would you play i thought about it and he's like am i starting and i said i can see where i'm on the bench i was like i would be there i was like i can see where this is going i was like yes you're starting and he hesitated for a little bit and how did that make you feel I expected it okay not expected it he didn't say yes or no he was like we would talk about it and I said I think what I would do is I understand how big of a moment is for them I would let him choose and I would genuinely be okay with it because they might never get to go and have that moment again and in a way I respect that but also I'm not in the situation so that's
Starting point is 00:48:47 how I think I would react I'm not convinced I would do it and it depends am I on the other side of the world alone with no family and not one person I'd be like get your ass back here but if I'm with people and I'm with family and his own he'll be back in a couple of days and whatever else and it was a really big moment for him like a semi-final or something then I'd be like yeah I want you to live out your dream like live it out you're gonna have a kid for the rest of your life I would say have that moment but I think it comes down to the couple one of the old English coaches, Gareth Southgate, a few World Cups ago, he let a very, very good player go to the birth of his child. And he said, everybody says you only get one chance to be in a World Cup,
Starting point is 00:49:25 but also there's only one day in your life when your children are born. And that's great of him. Ben's told me this story, not World Cup related, but similar sentiment. Ben was brought up a lot by his grandparents. Like they were an instrumental part in his upbringing. They lived next door to him and they were there taking him to and from school every day he was staying with them on nights taking him to training on the weekend taking him to football like they were like parents and when his grandparents passed away he had asked for leave to go to the funeral and his coach had said basically no like you can go for this day and this day which was a bit before it and then you have to come back for a game and it is part of it so if your coach says that you do have to
Starting point is 00:50:12 do it so ben went didn't actually make the the important part he was supposed to be there for but he was there for the days around it then came back because the coach made him come back and the coach had benched him so there are moments like like it's very dependent that's fucked it's fucked it was almost like to make a point like he didn't even go back and play he was like and so i just think it's really so cruel it really is yeah but it's it's a whole nother world Do you reckon it – this is another time where I'm like stop making jokes at inappropriate times, but do you reckon it's only for the first kid? Do you reckon if it was your second, you'd be like, no, I'll go and walk up?
Starting point is 00:50:49 Yeah, they're like, hey, I'm on the bench. I don't care. It's the second one. Who cares? That's why Ben was like, is it the first? And I was like, well, yes, we don't have any kids. It was the first kid. Anyway, let's get out of here.
