Episode Date: May 29, 2026Hey Lifers! Welcome back to your weekend treat. The nom nom nom discourse is real, it is divisive, and the feedback has been received. Laura is personally victimised. We will poll you. Then we get int...o it: Taylor Swift is getting married and there’s plus one drama. We ask if wedding guests have a right to feel hurt when their partner doesn't make the cut? A woman on TikTok cried on camera because 39 children took over the pool and hot tub at her hotel; a hotel she specifically chose for the pool and hot tub. You can hire a woman for $500 to turn up to your funeral. It’s petty, but it’s also impactful. The Enhanced Games just wrapped up in Las Vegas. Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura. I'm Brittany. This
is our Off Cuts episode and I am feeling personally victimized. We need to unpack it. If you guys
listened to last week, you always feel personally victimized. I am a victim. I also have some
sort of depression going on at the moment which we unpacked last week also it hasn't cleared up yet
i don't think it just clears up it's not a rash you're like why is my i've been putting like
steroids on my depression it hasn't cleared yet i have taken some antibiotics my depression hasn't
gone away yet but my thrush is great does your thrush get better with antibiotics i feel like
it gets worse yeah thrush is fungus okay guys it wasn't medical advice it was just i was just
making a joke, all right? What I would like to say to that is that if you came to Life Uncut
for medical advice, please leave. Please leave right now. No, if you guys listened to this
episode last week, so our Saturday, our Offcuts episode, two things were covered. One, that I have
some sort of raging hormones where my happiness and joy for life is really fluctuating at the
moment. And firstly, I just want to say thank you to every single person who reached out and I've
had so many kind messages from you guys i've had everything ranging from people accusing me of
being in perimenopause to people saying maybe it's postpartum or potentially pmdd all of which
could be all at this point it might be everything d all of the depression trifecta and thrush
and i also have thrush but that's because you're taking the antibiotics for the depression it's a
really vicious cycle but there was something else that we discussed and it was off the back
of a comment that has now sent us all into a bit of a tailspin i'm not in a tailspin i want to put
my hand up laura you are tailspinning very fast i'm okay i'm not in a tailspin i just think that
the world is divided and i think that maybe a real poll needs to be done and if if you're on my side
you need to come in and bat for me so we were discussing that someone left a very choice
review around the nom nom noms now we made a little social post about it and let me tell you
It's been heard loud and clear.
You're all divided.
You're divided.
The feedback has been received.
Laura is very convinced that the feedback is divided.
I feel like it's a little heavier in one direction.
So do I, Keisha.
I'm on your side, but Laura's like, no, no, no, it's even.
It's even.
I also know the way that the internet works and we are negatively geared
and we are more likely to object to something than what we are
to actually say that we're in support of it.
I just think there's a lot of people out there who really aren't
that personally victimized by the word nom for three seconds of an episode the word cringe came
up cringe cringe came up someone accused me of being a millennial which i actually wear with a
badge of honor so like get a grip angel said on the spotify comments of last week's episode stop
the nom nom i've given you guys a five star with a crying face anyway look let me say um we talked
about in our group chat and vanessa who is our wonderful video editor she was like maybe we need
to use it in a nominal amount so yeah look we might park it for a bit but right now i think
welcome back to your norms for the weekend special occasions what's the special occasion only birthday
norms birthday christmas just i think sporadic norms sporadic like we just throw it out there
sometimes no one knows it's coming but also for anyone that's joining us now that doesn't get it
because one of the comments was also it doesn't even make sense you're not eating it comes from
like one of the like it wasn't it fucking wasn't planned and this isn't a podcast about food no
it was because it was meant to be a little snack yeah and so at the start we were like hey guys
welcome to your snack for the weekend nom nom nom it was we didn't pre-plan it wasn't supposed to
be a tagline and then I just find it fascinating like it doesn't bother me I'm happy to rest it
and never say it again I'm happy to say it again I don't care I can't believe how much people cared
that's what I'm like why I said guys we've given you like 1200 free episodes or something over
seven years and the people that are coming for us being like I can't believe you're saying that
like I might not listen anymore I'm like cool if nom is gonna send you after giving you 1200 free
episodes see ya I don't know sometimes I reckon that once you it's like we talk about all the
time once you've got the ick for something you can't it's hard to go back I understand yeah I
understand you know what we're gonna take the nom away and we'll see how you feel then unless like
you're someone who really loves it and then message me privately because I need the fucking
motivation boost because after saying I was depressed I really didn't need you all coming
for me let me put that out there okay anyway look we do have a great episode for you today and we
are going to unpack a lot of things that's been going down in the group chat we also have to stop
laughing at the depression but I've been crying a lot as well but over like I'm not because I'm sad
I'm just so like deeply happy right now and I also don't know if I'm in perimenopause no not happy but
Like things are just sending me to the sky that have never sent me before.
Like Ben was showing me a video yesterday.
Actually, it wasn't a video.
It was an Instagram page.
And it was an Instagram page.
I'll send it to you, Keisha, just on cute dogs, like dog moments.
And he was scrolling some of them.
And then I was just bawling my eyes out.
And Ben's like, what's wrong with you?
I said, they're just so cute.
I don't know.
I feel overwhelmed.
He's like, what are you overwhelmed with?
And I was like, I don't know.
That's what overwhelm is.
I was like, there's a lot of emotions and I don't know what they are.
It's probably missing Delilah.
Yeah, maybe.
I have a theory.
I think that most people have, like, an emotional kink on Instagram.
Like, there's one type of video that you watch.
I know what yours is.
And it makes you, like, feel something, you know?
It doesn't matter how dead inside you are, you'll cry about it.
Okay, you don't know what mine is, I don't think.
I thought yours was the reunions.
Oh, my God, you do know what mine is.
Okay, mine is the army reunions.
So anytime, like, a dad comes home from war.
Is this because your dad was a part of the army?
It's also because of my dad.
It's connected.
Do you know what?
Actually, maybe.
Maybe this is some unearthed trauma.
No, every time I, like, need a good cry,
watching men come home from war and hug their children for the first time
or, like, their kids being like, Daddy's home.
Like, RIP, levitate to the sky.
Matt and I sometimes just sit on the couch and watch it together and cry.
Is that how you felt when he, like, had the reunion from My Miss Liberty?
I was thinking the same thing.
I thought the same thing.
like laura you're not alone on that there's i would think you'd be hard pressed to find someone
that can't sit there and feel something when a war vet surprises his child that he hasn't seen
in years like that's understandable but crying when you look at a puppy is not normal but do
you know what just to kind of give context to this because like yes i agree it is probably a
little bit more emotional the coming home from war thing but like keisha i feel like maybe you just
hit it on the head so my dad he was in the army for like my entire childhood and he was posted
in Somalia whilst I was in primary school so he was during like 1999 like when there was like the
movie Black Hawk Down you guys all know that like my dad was over there at the same time
and I have this memory of being in I think I can't remember what year it was but I was in
primary school and our names got called over the PA system right like Alicia and Laura Byrne can
you please come down to the principal's office and we came down to the principal's office and
my dad was there and sorry now I'm gonna get emotional that was high pitch because I'm about
and i'd not seen him in so long and he'd come home we didn't know he was coming home and he
came straight to school and so maybe it is that like i so remember that day and i remember what
it was like seeing him again after not seeing him for months and months and months and oh
what a missed opportunity as well if only social media was around that would have gone viral
finally damn it no that's so that's really cute that's i i feel i was there with you
when you were describing it anyway let's get into the content do you know what i do want to unpack
taylor swift taylor swift our queen is getting married which i don't know how you guys feel
i think the world spoiler well there was a time where we didn't think this was going to happen
Taylor was unlucky in love. She was killing it in the charts because she was unlucky in love
and she fell in love with Travis Kelsey and it's been a very beautiful love story. But I was reading
something the other day. In my head, I'm thinking this can't be true because surely nobody actually
feels this way in regards to Taylor Swift's wedding. So this part's obvious. Apparently,
Taylor Swift is not releasing the location of the wedding to her wedding guests. So she sends
invitations out and people know the date and I'm assuming they know the generalized area like the
city or whatever else but she's not putting the venue on and that's I guess for secrecy so
paparazzi don't come and it's not flooded I can only imagine like imagine the super fans around
the world if they knew where it was that would just be lining the streets it would be like
a royal wedding but also I mean it's unsurprising that a celebrity of her status is keeping
as many details as possible about the wedding a secret like I also think like anything that's
being leaked currently or anything that is being reported on is just like the most base speculation
it's like when people like a source close to her said this like as soon as a journalist writes that
they can truly write anything afterwards and I can't imagine that Taylor Swift has anyone in her
immediate friendship group or family members that haven't all signed NDAs in order to go to the
wedding in the first place the interesting thing here to me is that one of her guests who is
obviously anonymous so I don't know if I believe it or not but one of the guests has come out and
said hey all these famous couples are going and not even famous couples but just couples right
people that Taylor and Travis know that have been in a relationship they're both invited
but this source came out and she said she's a single woman and quote she said my invite did
not let me bring a plus one I mean what am I supposed to do go alone that is so awkward I
don't think I'm going to attend because I don't want to go by myself and I am not sure I will
know too many people there I mean sorry I am not friends with Gigi and Bella Hadid neither
but this is insane to me this is your opportunity to become friends this is your opportunity
girlfriend as if you're not going to Taylor Swift's wedding like I wouldn't care if someone
was like you're gonna go and you sit on a table by yourself next to the toilet your girl's there
like I'm going to the wedding and it just got me thinking I don't think it's normal for a celebrity
or a normal person to be throwing out plus ones to people just because people don't want strangers
to be at their wedding am I alone in thinking that no I agree but I also think that I mean
taking it away from the celebrityism I think this can be applied to all weddings I do think that it
is harder for single people to go to weddings when they don't know anyone and they don't have a plus
one I think two things can be true at the same time I understand why the bride and groom who
are paying for everything who are organizing it who want familiar faces at their wedding who want
to know the people that are at the tables aren't inviting random plus ones but I also do understand
why it can be incredibly awkward confronting uncomfortable to go as someone who is single
to a wedding where you feel like maybe you don't know anyone except for the bride and groom and
you're going to show up by yourself and stand there by yourself and then make small talk all
night. Like I see both sides of the story. I think it is an unfortunate thing that single people have
to kind of suck it up and just deal with it. And I'm not saying that that's like the fair or
reasonable answer to it either, but I guess like two things can be true. We can have empathy for
the fact that that is really hard and also understand why it's someone's wedding and
ultimately it's their choice to make. I think I've been to equal weddings when I've been in
a relationship not my current one like in total I reckon I would have been to 50 50 being single
or being in a relationship and I actually almost think the opposite that if I was single and I was
given a plus one I would feel so awkward picking who to take because I'm not in a relationship so
like do you just ask someone that you've been on two dates with do you ask a friend to come with
you if you get a plus one like how do you kind of I don't know to me that would feel like a really
big ask even though I wasn't in a relationship and also you miss the opportunity to potentially
meet someone at the wedding who's single too I think that's the thing I think that there's also
a whole other part to this as well which is like what about in the instances where maybe you are
in a relationship or it's a new relationship and your plus one hasn't been validated so like
you know I think that a lot of people will know this sort of situation maybe it's your friend's
wedding and you've recently started dating someone so it's early days but your partner hasn't been
invited and I think it becomes particularly tricky when like it might be early days dating for you
maybe a couple of months but the wedding's in like six seven eight months a year's time and so you're
like projecting well I guess we're going to be together in a year's time but now you've not
invited my partner so I think that all of these things are like the mental gymnastics that you
have to go through when you're someone who's organizing a wedding and you kind of have to
make the decision as to whether okay are we going to be really strict on this idea of plus ones are
we only having people that we know or if it's someone's partner how long have they been together
regardless of the fact that we don't know them like if they've been together for two three years
you would hope that they were invited to the wedding but like it's not always the case for
everyone you also need to respect the bride and groom and I say that I remember I was invited to
a really good friend's wedding where we had been friends our whole life and I had been dating this
guy for probably like four or five months but it wasn't like intense and super serious like we were
exclusive but he lived in a different city and whatever else and my friend didn't really know him
and I went to her and I said hey is it okay if I bring him and she said no and I said okay fine
and she's like sorry I don't we don't really know him and and she's like I know she's like I feel
bad saying it and and I got it and I think that that's what you need to understand is as much as
you might be slightly uncomfortable if you're going by yourself there shouldn't be the expectation
that you are allowed to bring somebody. And I agree with your laws. Like two things can be true.
You can really want someone to go with you and you can feel like you don't want to be there alone,
but the expectation shouldn't be there. You don't want to look around on your wedding and just have
a sea of faces of people for your most intimate day of your life. And you don't know any of them
and you might not see any of them again. I just think, I think that that is something that is
really specific to the bride and groom. There's a lot of people that are happy with it. There's a
lot of people that are like yeah we've got a huge venue i don't care bring who you want let's have
a party that's also fine but at the end of the day it's not your wedding you're a guest and if you
really don't want to go that's on you but fucking snooze you lose this is taylor swiss wedding like
you you should be turning up to taylor swiss wedding no matter what i'll take your place
i wonder if there's a little bit of ego wrapped into it and i don't mean i don't mean for single
people i mean for people who have just started in a relationship or their relationship is not
necessarily new but like by their partner not being invited there's a sense of invalidation
that I think happens what you think like the bride doesn't think that they're serious enough
or it could be interpreted as though that the relationship is not being validated because I
think a lot of you know there's been definitely the conversation that's happened pretty widely
around weddings which is exactly what you said Brit like you don't want a sea of faces of people
that you don't know but also you don't want to look back on your wedding photos and see like
your friend's ex do you know I mean like like a relationship that didn't work out and I think
that sometimes it's kind of like oh do you not see that we're going to be together long term well
There's like a sense of ego that's wrapped up in it.
And I don't necessarily think that that's what the bride and groom are interpreting
it as.
It's more so simply that they're like, I don't want to make the commitment of having them
at the wedding when there is like, I don't know them, or it's like an uncertainty around
the relationship or whatever that is.
And I guess that that's probably where the invalidation comes from.
I don't know.
I don't know how to describe that, that feeling of like, but they're my partner.
Why can't they come?
Because like, you want to experience these types of things with your partner, but ultimately
you don't make the decision.
I know friendships that have completely broken down because of this exact thing.
I know people who have been in the bridal party whose newish, you know, couple month
long partners weren't invited and that particular person ended up not being a bridesmaid at
all because it caused a fight between like the bride and the bridesmaid.
To be fair though, weddings are so expensive and when you have to pay per head, like I
don't know what the average would be now, I'm assuming probably what, 200 bucks per
head you don't want to pay for people that you're like why am I paying $200 for that person I don't
even know who they are I couldn't tell you their last name that I very very much understand but
Taylor Swift's a billionaire like if there's anyone who can afford a couple of extra chairs
no do you know what it is it's because like I mean look if it's Taylor Swift specifically and
bringing it back to her being like the celebrity that she is why on earth would she of all of the
people that she could invite or have there why would she want someone who she doesn't know
who doesn't have the right to have access to her life who she doesn't trust who she doesn't have
the connection with who I think that there is like a much greater sense of like privacy and
NDAs and everything else that come into it when I read this as well I mean firstly it was an
article that was in the Daily Mail I'm not convinced that any of it is no of course not
but it's great it does raise a really interesting question which is more so based around like do you
have a right as a guest to feel upset if your partner isn't invited to a wedding and if you
are upset why like where is that coming from is it the invalidation is it the feeling that you
have to go alone like what is it about them not being invited that has hurt you so much
I do understand it and like I'll talk about something personal but for my wedding
it was really hard because we did have a limit on the people that could go and we had to make
some cuts right and I had some people in my life where Ben and I wrote our list and we had we wrote
down to everyone like hypothetically who could we have there write their partners whatever else and
once we realized how over we were and you had to make cuts the only way to make those cuts is to
then go back and say okay well who do we actually not know who have we actually never met because
you're not going to go and cut like your sister or a cousin or whatever else and there was one
person that's like a family member like extended family member and they had a partner that was
long-term like they have been together for a while but I have never met them I have no connection to
them at all and so they unfortunately didn't make the cut when we had to get really tight and that
really upset them and I understand why because they are in a long-term relationship but they
decided not to come as well so like the partnership didn't come so you're like great we've got one
extra spot no because I was like it's family right like you don't want to hurt any weddings
are fucked actually someone always gets hurt and somebody always gets stressed whether it's the
person that's wedding it is and it's organizing it or whether it's the person like one of the
guests that's not getting something that they want or they don't get to bring a partner that's like
it's actually can be a really stressful time and that really upset me as well that they chose not
to come and that I had upset them because you never want to do that but at the end of the day
that had to happen like we I couldn't fit them in so I'm going to go and cut the people that I don't
know so I feel guilty but I understand it yeah and I think with that situation it's almost amplified
by the fact that when it's a destination wedding it has an added layer of complexity because if
you're in a long-term relationship with someone and you're going to Bali for a holiday for a
wedding it makes sense that you would travel with your long-term partner so it's almost like
even more invalidating or I guess even more amplified when they're like you're going to go
on this holiday together but like they're not allowed to come to the wedding so then they're
just going to occupy themselves for the day. Like ultimately, I mean, we're all adults. We
can occupy ourselves for a day even if we are on a destination holiday. But I get where the
frustration comes from. I especially get where the frustration can come from when you're a single
person, when you feel as though you're always showing up for weddings by yourself. What I'm
saying is, is like, I empathize with it and I totally understand that it's there. I just don't
think that like we're going to rewrite the books or rewrite the expectations around it. Because
ultimately the decision-making lies with the person who's organizing it. And that's the bride
and groom. The other thing that I think is going to be like the icing on the cake, or it's going
to tell us if this article is real or not, is apparently Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Now,
Blake Lively and Taylor have been best friends forever. Apparently Taylor Swift is godmother
to Blake's and Ryan's children, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. There were all these rumors that they
had a fallout with Blake's lawsuit, but apparently Blake and Ryan have not been invited to the
wedding, which I don't know if I believe, especially if she's a godmother. So we will
see if Blake and Ryan go that will mean that the rest of this article I think is bullshit and if
they don't go we'll know it's true the one thing I'm really sad about with this whole Taylor's
keeping it real privacy and you know no extra people that they don't know do you guys remember
Brooklyn Beckham's wedding how there was that DJ guy DJ Tony or something like that and he went on
every single breakfast television radio he did like lives on Instagram and he spilt the tea
stupid there's not going to be anyone there that is the equivalent of that and we need someone
who's going to fill that role because oh someone will we want the goss i mean i like that he was
doing god's work truly every so often we post things to the internet right like maybe not
everyone has experienced this but i would say if you're someone who shares content or shares your
thoughts on social media there's that really like precarious moment after you hit send and you're
like fuck how's that going to go down you know like you're worried not necessarily worried but
there's this like okay you wait for the reaction or for people to be like yeah I agree or no I
disagree and I think overarchingly when people post to social media they post it because they're
expecting there to be people who agree with them I think most people don't post it with the hopes
and expectations that the internet's going to be like you're fucking wrong happens from time to
time unfortunately and also happens to the best of us we've all been there bit of rage bait rage
bait. Exactly. Sometimes, sometimes you do want to be wrong. Sometimes it actually works and has
like a beneficial outcome. Unfortunately, I don't think that that was this woman's expectation at
the time. So we're talking about this lady, her name is at Jessica Jean Carver, and she recently
posted a TikTok that has gone viral, not necessarily for the right reasons. However,
I do think the conversation around this is one that's worth getting all of your thoughts on.
So basically Jessica booked a romantic holiday with her partner. He was going and doing something
and she was like during the days and she was going to spend time around the pool and in the
jacuzzi. And she booked this specific hotel because the photos of the pool and the photos
of the jacuzzi looked incredible. And she was like, that's how I'm going to relax. And they
also, I mean, according to how she described it, but they also spent a lot more than what they
would normally spend because of her wanting to be able to have the time around the pool.
The reason why it's gotten a bit of, I guess, conversation off the back of this is because
she's quite emotional when she's posting this. She's very upset. She's visibly crying. And that
is because the hotel pool that she was so looking forward to spending time around was overrun by
children. Have a listen to this. We're out of town for the night. My boyfriend wanted to go to a
concert. I went with him. I asked him to book like a way more expensive hotel than we would have
gotten. And I was like, I'm not going to the concert with you because I picked a hotel with
like a rooftop pool and jacuzzi and I'm just gonna stay in on Friday night and be at the pool
and the jacuzzi and then I went to the jacuzzi and it is so loud and there's like 40 kids out
there right now I'm not gonna show them because that's insane behavior like they're just children
but I'm like no I booked this hotel for this like I asked my boyfriend to spend the extra money
on me getting this and so I'm sitting in the hot tub and the kids are getting in and they just keep
like diving under the water and splashing and bumping into me. And I finally just like got
sick of it. I kept looking at like the adults sitting in the chairs and they're making eye
contact with me and like looking at the kids and then just like talking to each other. And I'm like,
so you're not even going to like, like, I'm not going to talk to these strangers kids. Like
they're not mine. And so I just got up and I left and I came to the room and I started crying
and I can hear them screaming right outside. Now I did a bit of deep dive in the comments of this
and people have reacted there's been a bit of a split but I would say overwhelmingly people are
confused as to why she's so upset and has such a severe reaction when it's kind of an expectation
that if you go to a hotel and it's got an incredible pool and it's not adults only it's
probably going to be monopolized by families and kids right but then the question is is like is it
an unfair or unrealistic expectation when you are someone who is childless to expect to be able to
enjoy the amenities of a hotel without having someone else's kids jumping in and destroying
the moment for you. It's sort of unhinged to me to see how upset she is. Like it hasn't bothered
her. She's let it consume her week. She's let it consume her life. To be that upset when you've
gone to a hotel that is not adult only, it's wild that we're even having this conversation.
You cannot expect to go to a hotel that anyone is allowed to be at in the day that has a pool
and then get upset that there are kids in the pool.
You're at a family hotel, it's going to happen.
But the part about it that makes me giggle as well,
and I feel for her, right?
Like there's times that I'm like, I don't have kids,
and I'm like, I wish there were no kids here.
Britt, they live at Laura's house.
You can't think that.
It's not a family hotel.
It's just a family home.
I'm like, Laura, why are the kids here?
You're like, we live here.
No, but the thing that tickles me is that she was really upset
because she literally went to the hotel management to ask for help
into like putting a complaint and she was upset that she didn't get confirmation because she
wanted a drink to like sort of negate the feeling that there are the kids here and I was like
you can't be that upset if you think that one cocktail was going to help negate that feeling
for me it's the whole thing feels unhinged I feel for her and I feel for the onslaught that has
happened off the back of it but what were you expecting I thought you're about to say for me
I would need the whole bottle I would I would at least 17 cocktails to make up for this shit show
do you know what though i get it in some respects and i say this as someone who has kids and you
know this year we went to noosa at the beginning of the year and we had a holiday three kids
kate was there so kate is matt's sister she was there with her three kids we chose this hotel
because the pool looked amazing and it was an incredible perfect haven pool if you had children
and we had this one day where we were all around it there was like a fucking shit load of loads of
kids like kids everywhere and matt and i looked at each other and we were like this would be hell
if you didn't have children. Like if you booked this hotel and you were childless and you didn't
expect that this was going to be the outcome, you would be so deeply disappointed. So I do
understand. And I guess I was kind of shocked by the comment section because usually people
from what I've seen on the internet is like often people kind of quite enjoy getting angry about
kids being kids. Like I do think that there's sometimes a real split, like, you know, it's
split when you see kids crying on planes, there's people in the comment section that have an issue
with it there's people in the comment section that are supporting it like I think that sometimes
there is this like I guess like there's two camps there's the people that really don't and can't
suffer dealing with children and then there's the people that come in to defend it the problem is
though is like I have also seen what it's like to be in a hotel environment where the parents who
decide that they want to be on holiday they check out of parenting and the kids are being fucking
wrap bags and you are left just like watching these kids run around the pool area, bomb into
the spa, like behave in a way that's so inconsiderate of all the other guests. And that's why I think it
gives it a really bad name because it's not so much about like being in an area where there's
loads of children. It's when parents check out of parenting and then you as the bystander are left
with that. And just kind of like to add to this a little bit, I think if you are the parent of
young children, you notice it a lot when parents hit the age where they don't have to keep the eye
on their children. So like it happens in the park quite a bit. For example, like when Marley and
Lola were like little, like, you know, Marley would be like four, Lola was two. I had to keep
an active eye on everything that they were doing. Right. So like I was always there. I was always
watching them. And then you'd have these kids that are like nine or eight years old or 10 years old
and their parents know that they're fine. So their parents are not watching them.
they're running around they're picking up sticks they're fucking whacking shit they're being stupid
on the swings and like it's not so much about their parents needing to watch them because
they're going to hurt themselves it's because their behavior is going to hurt someone else so
it makes the job of the parents with small children so much harder because you're managing
your kids and you're also trying to be like you are venice where are your fucking parents
but then i also get it because when my kids are that age i probably also will check out a
parenting so I think it's like a system and a cycle that you kind of can't beat I think that
her reaction was uh extreme but I am also a big feelings girl and I've had big reactions to
situations that others might seem silly as well then I found out that she counted 39 kids in the
pool and the hot tub and I was like oh honey even if they left you don't want to go there because
the amount of fluids swimming in that warm germ pit like you don't want to go and enjoy
this but I think she just had she probably this would might have been her one holiday of the year
she like she said she's you know she spent more money than what she usually would and she had a
fantasy of what she was going to experience and then it all came crumbling down I think maybe
the lesson in this is that when you are emotionally heightened maybe sharing things on the internet
isn't going to get the reaction that you expect like if she'd sent that to her girlfriends in
a group chat I'm sure her girlfriends would have been like yes 100% that's shit you poor thing that
You have to deal with that.
But the internet is brutal.
And the internet, once it's decided on like a uniform, I guess, like opinion, then it
just kind of reinforces its own opinion.
And when you go into that comment section, like I actually kind of feel sorry for the
pile on that she received.
Just book the adults only.
I feel like that's the end of the conversation here.
Book the adults only, girl.
Also, Jacuzzi makes me feel so American.
Can we call it a hot tub?
Unrelated, but a spa?
It's not a hot tub.
Even a hot tub is American.
We're going to get a hot tub time machine.
I just think of The Sims when I hear that and I think of how you used
to make them woo-hoo.
Again, more fluids.
The Sims.
Oh, is this our divide?
I've never played Sims.
You loser.
This is where the age gap between us really kind of starts to show itself.
I was playing Lemmings and you were playing Sims.
I've never even heard of Lemmings, but there are people who know
exactly what I'm talking about and they probably use the Rosebud
motherlode cheat too.
I've been recently wondering, I mean, having this conversation
with Ben. I'm like, what are you going to do when football finishes? Like what's going to be your
job after this? And it got me thinking about what would I want to do if like the podcast didn't work
out. Anyway, I found it. There is a job that I did not know. There's a job I did not know existed.
You can pay a woman $500 to turn up to a funeral. She rolls up in a limousine, black limousine.
she gets out in like all black but like very well dressed like high end think of like a cross
between Wednesday Addams and some beautiful classy woman I don't know it's like it's a really weird
like almost Hollywood-esque vibe it's got a bit of a Cruella de Vil Cruella de Vil pin-up yes
pin-up-y that's what it is and she's got like all this beautiful makeup on and big black sunglasses
and an umbrella very emotive and very um what's the word mysterious yeah very mysterious anyway
she turns up she she comes to the funeral no one knows who she is she doesn't speak she stays
silently she stands back she cries for 10-15 minutes so you know that she's hurting and then
she gets back in her limousine and drives away and that is her literal job her job is to come
fuck shit up make people question who she is and drive away and she gets 500 bucks
I loved this when I saw this okay so Britt shared this and I just I feel like it needs
where it came from so this is an Instagram called no fucks given which I think is
iconic in and of itself it's a great it says this the black limousine steps out in heels
sunglasses dark dress silently crying in the corner like she lost the love of her life
speaks to no one and then suddenly vanishes without a trace it's brilliant the drama
imagine just like the last little kind of farewell instead of like leaving like a beautiful i love
you know to your family and friends instead of it being some sort of like message that you play a
PowerPoint. I don't know. The drama that you are creating just for your own fucking shits and kicks
and giggles when you're already dead. For me, it's a level that is almost incomprehensible except for
the fact that it's an actual job and it does exist. It's real. However, I have a question
and I'm getting my business hat on here. Who pays the invoice?
That's a good, they probably prepay it. Like someone that's doing this, it's planned. You've
planned it well then you're trusting that the services are going to be provided what an actual
perfect business model because you don't have to do it she's never shown up to a single funeral
that's what i'm taking from this she's like yeah i'll be there don't worry got fucking five of them
on wednesday not going it might not be necessarily though the person that's died that's hiring her
like there might be somebody else that wants to fuck it up but you know you know someone else in
the extended family but it got me thinking there is another job that is similar to this we spoke
about it many years ago but i think we only spoke about it on radio laws there is a guy whose job
it is when somebody is dying or they know they're going to die they hire this man and they can like
write a letter or they give information or whatever it is and his job is to wait until they die or and
it actually doesn't have to be just death it can sometimes be weddings as well but he waits till
they die and his job is to then go and do a speech and he outs whatever it is like he has said there
of things he's done before where the person dies and they get up in front of everyone and they say
aunt sally i know you fucked my dad and i know all this stuff and they out everything and then
he just walks out like that's also his job i just think this is insane like imagine being at a
wedding or a funeral and some random gets up and outs every family secret folds up his letter and
then just walks out well i think it's quite particularly i remember that story and it was
like utilized a lot when there had been affairs or like people had like been long suffering in
their relationships and so like you know there may have been like a long-standing affair that
happened between like a married couple and so when that person's died instead of it being like
you know we have this beautiful relationship blah blah blah it's like they've gotten up and said all
these nice things but then this person comes in and is like actually this is what they really
thought and do you know what it's really sad what it is is the fact that that these types of services
exist and that like people are leaving this planet with unfinished business that they don't have the
courage or the capacity to I guess like even try and resolve while they're still here and that they
feel as though there's some sort of like vindication or something that's going to come from
beyond the grave I don't know like imagine being that riddled with hatred that when you die you
want to have like one final fuck you after you're dead like I just think it's such what a sad state
to have lived your entire life with it is very petty but I am also very petty but it's also not
it's also not necessarily like to fuck shit up like sometimes it's to get something off their
chest so it's like that fifty thousand dollars that went missing mom like sorry I took that
that's where my new car came from like it can be anything it doesn't have to just be like to like
blow up a relationship but I think that's probably the majority of it but I don't know I find it
fascinating I wonder what I would repent I don't have a lot I'm pretty good I don't know I come
back to the feeling of like it must be awful to get to the end of your life and feel as though
you have unfinished business or something that you wish you were able to communicate while you're
alive and that you need to have someone else do it for you in death like that must be a horrible
way to go into your like final years hours months whatever it is days of being alive that you're
consumed by this thought that like haha after I die I'm gonna really one-up you like dude you're
dead at the end of the day you didn't one-up anyone you're dead however you do get the last word
the last thing i want to talk about today and it's because it's literally happening this week
and for some reason i feel like it's flown relatively under the radar it's something that
we spoke about i don't know in the last year we spoke about on the podcast and that is the enhanced
games and so if you don't know what the enhanced games are it's almost like a drug-fueled olympics
that's what it is it's like anyone whether you're a retired athlete or just a person that finds
themselves to be really fit you dope it's legal doping so you dope or you can inject steroids
anything that's fda approved to enhance your physical ability to then go and compete in this
steroid induced olympics and try to break world records to win money so essentially that's it in
a nutshell it was started by this australian called aaron de souza and he ended up linking
up with some billionaires and forming this enhanced olympic games vibe that has just gone
down in Las Vegas. And I have found this really fascinating. When they originally announced it
last year, there was a lot of pushback and a lot of people saying that you shouldn't be able to
encourage drug use or you shouldn't be able to perform on a level and be celebrated. You shouldn't
be able to win money for drug use. But when you break it down, I sort of was on the team where I
thought, I really want to watch this go down. Imagine how cool it would be. It's quote unquote
safe. They do all of these drugs alongside medical testing and doctors, and they have to
pass a certain criteria to make sure that they are safe to compete. So it's some of the athletes
are saying it's actually safer than other athletes that are not having that same level of medical
attention. But I thought, imagine how cool it would be to see like weightlifters that are like
smashing records, like 200 kilos. And anyway, the whole point of the story is it has just happened
this week in Las Vegas. And I don't think the result is what the enhanced games thought it
would be. Well, look, I found the whole thing really interesting. Firstly, they were selling
invite only tickets to attend the games, like to watch it. It was a relatively small capacity. So
2,500 people to watch it in real life. They actually didn't fill the seats of that, which
considering how much media attention it received when they very first announced that they were
going to go ahead and create this enhanced games for me I was surprised because like it did feel
as though that there was this real groundswell around it whether you loved it or you hated it
there was a lot of PR that was circulating around I guess how absurd it is but I think that there's
a lot of like sport purity a couple of highlights from this is that it was James Magnuson James
Magnuson was he's an Australian Olympic swimmer he was also on my season of Dancing with the Stars
he's also from Port Macquarie he's from my town and he's from Port Macquarie there you go
We've all got a connection.
I used to see him out the front all the time and he was really lovely.
Look, he came out at the very start when it was spoken about the enhanced Olympics and
he has just competed at it.
He's a decade on from when he was competing at the Olympics, unenhanced, might it be added.
But he was like, you know what?
The prize pool is a million dollars.
A million dollars.
That is like an unparalleled or unheard of amount of money.
Like the normal Olympics, if you win gold, you win $20,000, which you get as a bonus
from the Olympic committee.
He was like, you know what?
i'm gonna throw everything i have at it i'm gonna fucking take the drugs i'm gonna you know do the
enhancing and i'm gonna see what my body can do 10 years on from being a professional athlete
now he hasn't set any records he didn't end up doing better than his original pb but i still
think it's a fascinating thing to watch and to see because you know this is someone who 10 years on
from competing was never going to be a top tier swimmer olympic athlete again and so like this
kind of was like another chance I guess at like testing your body at throwing yourself into
something that could potentially result in winning a hell of a lot of money like I understand the
appeal of it I guess you too and I think that there's the other side of that coin is that the
appeal can lead to exploitation and so I feel the same as you do but I do also see the point that
if you offer up so much money and these people are allowed to take things that are unnatural
you could be at risk of pushing your body to the extremes you know and actually doing something
that long term could be very bad for you for the perfect example is that a lot of doping occurred
in the tour de france for a long long time to be fair a lot of people say that it still does they
just don't know what to test for yet so a lot of those athletes go on to have really bad heart
conditions because of the blood viscosity that they get like their blood is too thick basically
and they can have heart attack they can be the fittest people in the world at 30 and then at 40
they can be suffering long-term consequences of the doping that they did a long time before. So
I very much see both sides of the coin. I think that it is an interesting and quite fascinating
thing and I'm just not 100% sure morally where I land with it yet. So within this Enhanced Olympics,
there's only been 42 athletes that have competed. Some athletes have competed completely enhanced
free. So they have enrolled themselves or enlisted in order to try and win the million dollars,
but they certainly haven't done any prohibited enhancements.
Yeah, interestingly, I remember listening to a podcast about this
and if athletes chose to participate in the enhanced games,
regardless of whether they were, you know, doping,
regardless of whether they were using things that were unnatural
that would have them banned from traditional things like the Olympics,
they faced strict bans and they're excluded.
They're not allowed.
The International Olympic Committee said that they're not allowed
to compete again.
That's insane to me because you're not enhanced.
if anything all you're doing is going to prove like it's just let's do swimmers for example right
all you're going to do is going for a swim in a pool why should it matter what competition you
are in and i say that and i understand they're saying oh morally blah blah blah but at the end
of the day you're going to try to prove that unenhanced you can beat people that are enhanced
that should be something that is celebrated if anything and also on top of that to say the fact
that you can't then go and compete the olympics a pay your olympians more than because they're
going in it to try and A, prove that they can do it naturally and B, win some fucking money because
we don't pay our Olympians anything. It's insane to me that they're going to morally slap that on
and it's because they feel threatened. The Olympics feel threatened. They make billions of dollars
and now there's never been anything that has been able to compete with the Olympics and now there
is. And I think that that's them putting these limitations on clean athletes is wild.
Well, that was also kind of like the point of James Magnusson when he was really going up against
the media when this was first spoken about and like look a lot of people have very complex feelings
about this a lot of people think that it is morally wrong that we shouldn't be encouraging
people to use any sort of enhancements people who believe in you know like I said athleticism purity
certainly sit in the camp of like well if you're going to entertain it then you should be banned
from traditional sporting events but interestingly in this enhanced games there have been three
athletes who have won and they competed clean so they've been banned from unfortunately they've
been banned now from doing traditional, I guess, like, you know, your Olympics and other types of
top tier sporting events, but they did win as clean athletes. And I guess my, where I kind of
sit with this at the moment is like, they've said that it's coming back next year. It's going to
happen again in 2027. This year was kind of like a test to see like, what has been the athlete's
response to it? What has been the media's response to it? Is it going to garner sponsorship and
everything else? And like the enhanced committee behind this are actually a company that creates
peptides and supplements and everything else so like there's an old there's an ulterior motive
in what they've created but the problem is is obviously people and athletes who have spent their
entire life dedicating themselves to their sport so think of like olympic swimmers who right now
are competing to be in the olympics if they are being banned from then doing the enhanced games
whether it is not enhanced at all so like as in like they're not taking anything they just aren't
allowed to compete in it or it's going to impact their ability to be part of the actual olympics
the problem is is like it's not really a true representation of what it would be if someone
who was like the top of their game was also enhanced you know what I mean so I think that
like at the moment there's an appetite for it if you know someone wants to watch what it looks like
to see people be pushed to the extremes of our physical capabilities that's kind of what this
sporting event caters to and I think like there's so many versions of that that already exists across
the world anyway that I don't know I just don't think it's as controversial as what we've been
led to believe and I think traditional media is really trying to paint this as like the most
controversial should be banned but I'm like they're all consenting adults and they're all consenting
adults who are just trying to fucking make a million dollars let them go I don't have as much
as a negative skew to this is what I think some people do yet neither do I laws but I think where
the negativity comes from and I agree with it in this sense is what the flow-on effect is is a lot
of people that see what they can do and they see their bodies change and then athletic ability
change but don't have the access to be doing it safely will be inspired to do that and that's
where the problem is it's the everyday people that the gym junkies or the people that just
want to improve themselves but don't have the financial means or the access to be doing it
safely because the key here is that they are constantly monitored and there are i mean there
are numbers that every single test has to stay between and if any of them goes above they are
not allowed to compete anymore so it's like they do have their own rules and regulations within this
crazy idea of the enhanced games but it's the inspiration for the other people that are looking
being like i want to be jacked but i can't monitor my heart and i can't monitor my levels and that's
where it gets really dangerous so i definitely understand the pushback in that sense but when
we look at it from a broader scope like the olympics versus the enhanced games i almost
think that they should be working together in a way instead of against each other and if you don't
want to work together as the olympics you just need to pay your athletes more you make billions
of dollars. So many of these athletes have come forward saying, we're only doing it because you
want us to train for four years to represent your country, but you don't want to pay us for it. So
we need to go and put a roof over our head. We're going to go and do that with someone that's
offering us a million dollars. James Magnuson, our Aussie swimmer, he didn't win. He came fourth
and he still won more than he made at the Olympics. So I think that speaks for itself.
I can understand why these athletes want to do it. My old housemate, Spencer, you guys all met
Spencer and loved him. He worked at NSW, which is the New South Wales, I think, Institute of Sport
is what it stands for. And so he trained Olympic athletes as a job. And a lot of them, particularly
if you get into things like the surfing landscape and that kind of thing, they make quite substantially
more money from promotional deals that they can make with brands than what they actually make for
being an Olympic athlete in Australia. The wages that they get are, you know, considering the hours
that they have to put their body through the toughest conditions like he was up at like four
o'clock in the morning every day to go to work that means that the athletes were there at the
same time you know what they have to do it didn't feel as though the money was worth it you know
they had to be in it for something else and so I can imagine you've put your body through it for so
long and then whether you did or didn't go to the Olympics and whether it did or didn't go how you
wanted it to you're then looking at your post career and you're like if I can break a world
record, I get a million dollars. Like, yeah, I'm going to go do that. And so I know that I was the
one who was like, morally, I don't know. But if I was in the position, I mean, we all joke about
the fact I say everyone has a price. Mine usually has a zero less than anyone else's. I would
probably do it for a hundred grand. I got a mortgage. Anyway, guys, that is it from us.

with all your questions as well.
And also we have a kind of polarising Ask Uncut coming up on Monday.
I think that this one will be one where people,
maybe similar to the Enhanced Games,
are going to sit on one side of the fence and not in the middle.
Oh, I wish I could remember what that was.
It sounds good though, Keish.
I'm going to tune in.
And you guys know the drill.
