Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi guys and welcome back to another episode of Life Uncut. I'm Laura. I'm Brittany and this is our off cuts, our little schnack, our little nom nom nom for the weekend. And hey, we do have to address something straight up. You don't. You don't have to address anything. No, we do. No, we can be done. We're really bad at, we were just talking amongst ourselves, we're really bad at like we record an episode that comes out a few days later, right, or a day later, whatever it is, but we always forget if it's a big monumental day
Starting point is 00:00:38 on the day it launches and then we ignore it. For example, last week this came out on Valentine's Day and we just didn't say anything. We didn't. Happy Valentine's Day, lifers. We love you. We're only a week late. Happy V-Day.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Valentine's. Did you do anything for it? You don't need a man. Yeah, I worked at a trade show all day and also stayed in the city. Trade romantic. I didn't see my husband at all. We're not Valentine's Day people, though. We're not.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I was going to say we're the type of couple that like to spontaneously do things for each other. That's a lie. We just don't. We just don't celebrate it. I would say having a night away in the city is the best Valentine's Day present alone. Alone. Yeah. Alone.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Yeah, I was away. And I did say to Matt, I'm like, do you mind if I go and do this trade show on Valentine's Day? And he was like, why would I mind? He's like, that's great for all of it. Everyone involved. He's like, that sounds fucking perfect. He's like, thank you. That's the best gift you've ever given me.
Starting point is 00:01:25 No, but it is true. We do forget that there are significant dates that come up. And sometimes we just, you know, we look at the schedule afterwards and we're like, oh, that dropped on Valentine's Day. And you know why? It's because all of us, all three of us, are people who keep dates in our head. So instead of like using a calendar the way in which a calendar should be used, where you like plan out your day and you plan out your week
Starting point is 00:01:48 and you would think as a business that would be really productive, we all just keep everything in our brains and then between us someone remembers or we all forget ben and i are we're weird we're unusual but i'm just forgot it was valentine's day to be honest until 49 red roses turned up to my house and one why 49 well there was 50 49 were red and then in the middle of the 49 red roses which is so beautiful was one white rose and so like they had 49 red roses and then the white rose in the middle and it was pulled out so that it was very prominent like one white rose and it was elevated and Ben I said Ben did you did you like do that did you think to do that and he said yes
Starting point is 00:02:31 that's because you're so unique and you stand out in the crowd and I just I just I was like I love you so much and now is the time to apologize that I forgot it was Valentine's Day I'm so unique also I forgot that but it was really that's really cute it's very cute but when do you think your husband is going to know and understand and realize that you actually hate red roses like when do you think he's gonna learn that about you I don't hate them he has made me re-love them so he because he's just persevered he changed the memories he persevered because he did send me roses he sent them from the beginning right as soon as we met and I made the joke I said I'm a bit triggered by the rose you know like bachelor days for anyone who's unsure yeah but then he just
Starting point is 00:03:12 forgot that and continued to send them and now I don't associate it with that anymore I it's it's just a beautiful flower now it's just a beautiful gesture so I'm really glad I've been able to move on in my life well I'm so glad you got 50 roses and uh I'm sad that you haven't mentioned that we spent Valentine's Day together Brit that was the most romantic thing I had on the week yeah it was it was me Kishi and um her partner Tom Lerone at the start so we had a we had a lovely little drink Valentine's Day drink and then Kishi and I went to Ed Sheeran which was romantic yeah yeah we also had taken guesses with our friends on how many proposals would happen at Ed Sheeran on Valentine's Day because he's, like,
Starting point is 00:03:48 a very romantic singer, right? It's because it's the number one. Like, all of his songs, almost 90% of them are wedding songs. I think we said, Thomas said five. We said about eight, we thought. And then there were two songs that was Thinking Out Loud and Perfect that we were like, they're going to be the ones that if people do it, it will happen during that.
Starting point is 00:04:06 It definitely happened. We couldn't see it, but, like, you would hear different sections of the stadium. Yeah, like, really. They were going up in, like, we really wanted to capture it so we could go viral and put it on Instagram. We said we'd all collaborate. But, yeah, we did not unfortunately get to see it.
Starting point is 00:04:21 But how would you feel if you got proposed to at a concert like that? It's not for me. Very public, like a hundred other thousand people there. I don't think I would mind it. I think people who are getting proposed to at concerts like that, it's because they both obviously are really into the singer and, like, it's probably their song or it's a shared thing. Like, I look at all the proposals that happened at the Taylor Swift concert
Starting point is 00:04:42 And I feel like not one of those people who have been proposed to are thinking, oh, I wish they didn't do it here. Like I think that it's specific to a type of person and if you're doing that at a concert it's because you know the person you're proposing to would love that type of, I guess, sentiment. But for me, no. I wouldn't want that for me. I wonder if they would say that they hated it after the fact though.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Do you know what I mean? Like is it one of those situations where if they actually did hate it? Because I'm at the same camp as you guys, which I kind of feel bad because we tend to like to play different sides of the fence. But I would hate it. And I would be so shocked because my partner is so private that having that happen in front of like 100,000 people. He would never.
Starting point is 00:05:21 It would be his worst. You actually don't need to worry about that. Not that he's never going to propose, but he's never doing it in public. Ever, ever. We're not even allowed to name him. The guy's not proposing in front of 100,000 people. All right, well, look, you guys know if you've listened to a few of these off-cut episodes, it's where we take the things
Starting point is 00:05:36 that we have been obsessed with from the week and we unpack them. All the stuff that ended up in our group chat, which we've wanted to talk to you about because we either thought it was funny or interesting or God, who knows why we were talking about it, but we bring it here. We made a special episode for it and I am going to kick it off. Speaking of Valentine's Day, there is a Instagram account I came across that had me in stitches this week and it's a surprising one. It's one that I will guarantee that if we put this out to a vote, not one person would
Starting point is 00:06:04 ever guess the Instagram account that this came from. it is the australian federal police you don't really associate police with being like haha funny guys you if you're not following the australian federal police on instagram fucking come on down to lol town it's great it is actually so funny so okay here's one of the posts they put up this is on valentine's day got an ex who's up to some criminal activity and don't want to let them be alone tomorrow we'd love to be their date we'll give them some shiny jewelry shiny bracelets have long conversations late into the night and hold them tight in our cell and then it's got as the caption to nominate them call crime stoppers on 1-800-333-000 or jump on the website and share
Starting point is 00:06:45 why they are eligible we'll take the commonwealth crimes you take the state ones okay there's so many of these it's so good but it makes sense because that's the shit that's going to get shared so like you're more likely to catch a criminal because that post will be shared and People will be like, oh, I do know a criminal. Maybe I will dob him in. I never expected the Australian police to have, like the federal police, to have a sense of humour. Here's another one.
Starting point is 00:07:07 We're all obsessed with the Winter Olympics and so is the feds. AFP investigators are so excited to see mountains of snow at the Winter Games, especially knowing it's not the type of snow that we have to investigate. There was a missed opportunity. They could have gone for Canada and the curling. Why? Because Canada cheated.
Starting point is 00:07:25 It was illegal. Canada curling. Have you guys not seen that? They've got bigger fish to fry, Britt. They're not out here worrying about the curling. Canada double-touched that curl when they weren't allowed. Yes, I have been watching the Winter Olympics. Canada, cheat it.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Anyway, there's so many of them. I didn't expect the Australian Federal Police to have a sense of humour, firstly, but I think there's something really humanising about this because I do think that the police get a really bad rap and we often, I mean, we often talk about the Johnny Boppers, like they're on a power trip or like, and especially with some of the stuff. Do you say Johnny Boppers? That's what Matt always calls them.
Starting point is 00:07:58 No, they're Johnny Roppers. It's the Johnny Boppers. Is it Johnny Roppers? I've never heard either. Here come the Johnny Boppers. Johnny Ropper. I mean, that's what we used to say in PMAC. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Johnny Ropper. I probably am saying it wrong. Please slide into my DMs and tell me that I'm incorrect. I've done no research for this episode, so it shouldn't come as any surprise. Maybe it's different. Maybe it depends on where you grew up. Maybe you're brizzy. What did you say?
Starting point is 00:08:21 Wopper? Johnny Bopper. Wopper. I don't know what it is. Someone's wrong, all right? Okay. So what I was trying to say is, is that there's something very humanizing about it and it makes them seem less scary. It makes them seem as though they're more approachable. It socializes them in a way that I think the Australian police can, they can benefit from that branding. Put it
Starting point is 00:08:43 that way. You know how, when there's all those memes about like, oh, I could work for the FBI with my detective skills, like how particularly women, I'm sorry, we're all better at it. Like we're better at doing the social media lurking. This to me is actually screaming that the police So, like, what's going to be the most convenient way for us to, like, get a criminal this time? Let's go off of the bitterness of a scorned ex. 100%. Also, I think as well with this, whoever is running the social media, like, clearly there's just, like, some young Gen Z who's not a police officer. They've got a social media manager who's doing this.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And it's really nice that they've kind of, like, found their niche and found their brand. Anyway, didn't think I'd be recommending the Australian Federal Police's Instagram, but here we are. Can I read one more before we move on? Before we go, I've got a story for you. Okay, let me just read this and then you can tell it. So the picture is, it's a pair of white boots and it's a massive bag of methamphetamines, right? Allegedly.
Starting point is 00:09:36 No, it is. It is methamphetamines. It's the Federal Police Institute. Allegedly the Federal Police. So the Federal Police have posted these bags of drugs that have been smuggled into Australia and it says this. So, with lots of O's, if you're trying to import illicit drugs, our tip is don't hide it in something that kind of looks
Starting point is 00:09:52 like giant bags of drugs because we're definitely going to inspect that just a thought. Our partners at the Oz Border Defence located approximately 20 kilos of methamphetamines concealed in what were called Koalayan soft clay and impregnated in towels when examined the shipment. Okay, wait for it. Towels and soft clay. Ah, sounds like someone was planning a spa day.
Starting point is 00:10:14 This mild clay is a great option for both dry and sensitive skin. The meth, not so much. It's just great. They're so funny. The drugs have been seized by the AFP and we'd love to speak to their owners and chat to them about spa treatments and jail sentences. Okay. To be clear, we don't endorse drugs.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Drugs are not funny. Drugs are dangerous. If this is yours, please reach out. We're happy to host you at Spa de Jail. Sorry. That's so stupid. Let me tell you a story. At Spa de Jail.
Starting point is 00:10:47 It's like the social media person's drunk. No, I love a pun. It's well played. let me tell you a story and i'm just trying to see how to tell it hanging on to this story it's just come to me now i'm just trying to figure out the best way to tell it it was somebody from when i grew up so like we weren't close friends name them i knew it i'm not naming him give them their full name but i i know him from that time of my life right and he went to prison for importing drugs and the reason he the reason he went to prison drugs came he imported them from columbia
Starting point is 00:11:20 a lot of them and he just put his full name in a dress and they turned up to the house and they're like you can't even get out of it because you didn't even change your name he just posted it to himself and they're like and they're like you're going to prison and he was like okay don't you think he could have been like someone else sent them to me it's it was it was pretty like it was framed it was pretty much like return to sender it was like prepaid mate love it don't don't do it not ideal this one is for all the single people out there because apparently there is a well we kind of know this because of stephen bartlett don't we there is a single epidemic that is happening a mass uncoupling somebody think of all the men who can't find partners but no think
Starting point is 00:12:03 of the incels somebody think of the incels let's pair them up with poor unsuspecting women no look i mean that's definitely not what we're talking about but it does kind of lean into this there was a post that was put up based off a research study by The Economist, and it was all about the great singledom uprising. Apparently, we are entering an era where there are just more single people than ever before, more people choosing. We always talk about choosing to be childless by choice, but there is this uprising of people who are choosing to be single by choice, mostly, and it seems, which is very interesting, is that it is women. It is estimated that there are at least a hundred million more single people today than if coupling rates had stayed the same
Starting point is 00:12:45 since it was in 2017. And what that means is that if we had stayed in terms of like where we were at in 2017, if we had continued on that trajectory, as of today, there are a hundred million more people who are either choosing to remain single or by default are single because of the people who've chosen. And it is something that has resulted in 50% of men in America saying that they're single. 41% of women in America are saying that they're single over the age of 18. 43% of men in Australia are single and 41% of women in Australia are single. It's also interesting because it wasn't that long ago that we were having conversations about how many more single women there were in America, specifically New York, which was like the dating
Starting point is 00:13:25 capital of the world. And now it's switched. There's more single men. Yeah. I mean, we can unpack why that is, but look, I guess the thing is with this and why I found it quite interesting is because for a long time, we've spoken about how we're not choosing to be single. We're just choosing to get into relationships later. So, you know, no longer are people coupling up and getting into serious relationships in their early twenties, getting married, having babies. We're doing it later. What is now being suggested is yes, people are doing it later and some people are choosing to do it not at all. And that is at an exponentially higher rate. So the thing about this that I found really interesting is that there kind of seems to
Starting point is 00:14:00 be, especially when it comes to women, a bit of a crossover that's happening at the moment. And this unpack from The Economist goes into it. Firstly, women, and it is at a time in the world where we have the most access to education. We have more women graduating from university degrees. We also have the highest earning potential that we've ever had in the history of forever. So that's one thing, right? We have more choice. We have more opportunities presented to us. the problem is when you look at that and feminism in and of itself sitting in one parallel and then you look at the other pillar which comes down to this idea of internalized misogyny and that is that as women we usually choose men who earn more money than us and we also choose men who have more
Starting point is 00:14:45 stability in terms of career the problem is now is that pool of men is getting smaller and smaller as we as we get smarter and we get more wealthy the pool of men of which women will choose from particularly obviously in heterosexual relationships that pool of men dwindles down i think people are just fucking tired we don't need to be in these relationships anymore we used to have to be and you you might for example you might have gone into a relationship with somebody that you didn't necessarily think was perfect but it was slim pickings you needed stability you weren't educated you didn't have an income so you quote unquote slightly settled then if you didn't want kids but your partner did you had to have them to stay in that relationship
Starting point is 00:15:26 otherwise you'd be cast to the side and he would replace you with someone that would give him kids and you didn't have a choice because you didn't have the education and it was a vicious circle a bit of an issue now is women are choosing to stay single and this is a really big trend that Asia was actually leading there's a lot of Asian women a lot of Japanese women that are just saying we don't want it anymore we don't want children because we don't think it gives us happiness and we don't need it because we can go and earn our money so there is a really active choice now not to be having children well it's because in a lot of traditional households the lion's share of housework and everything still falls on the woman it's just this like but that's not even
Starting point is 00:16:02 traditional it's not even a traditional household it doesn't matter what the household is it's always expected that the woman will end up picking up more slack and that's even with men that are like coming into a relationship as equals it does it always falls on the woman we know that but a bit of the problem is lying within the fact that more women are now graduating with university degrees but those women still want men that are educated and earning more than them and so the balance isn't balancing because they're coming out more educated but they want someone educated and so that pool is just too small there's actually like a term for this it's called social stratification in mating so the layman's way to say this is you know dating across dating
Starting point is 00:16:45 up dating down and what you guys are talking about is that typically men will date across or down in terms of like status wealth education blah blah all these pillars and women will only want to date across and up and so like you both said as the pool gets smaller as you know that bar changes there are less men that women can actually you know date up to I think the issue though is is that it depends on who's speaking right obviously we've seen the stuff that's been coming out with Stephen Bartlett at the moment and the way in which the economist speaks about it as though is this like great recession that it's a problem in terms of like population decline and all this sort of stuff I guess the thing is is like anecdotally and subjectively the women who
Starting point is 00:17:28 are choosing to be single one because they don't need a man to support them have decided for whatever reason they don't want to have children because it's an individual choice then it means that the person they're choosing to be in a relationship has to carry their weight has to be able to do the housework has to be an equal in all of these ways and that's really fucking hard to find like that is a really hard person or a unicorn to find and so ultimately it's like this is a problem but it's a problem for who who is the problem the economy is it a problem for the economy or is it a problem for the individual women who are choosing this and that we don't have the answer for the only thing though is that I am sure there are some people out there who are
Starting point is 00:18:10 single who are like you know what I would love to not be single but I cannot find someone who meets the standards of which I want to live and the solution that seems to be online when you go down any of these incel or red pill or Stephen Bartlett or any of these conversations is that well you need to lower your standards instead of it being well no men need to lift their standards in order to provide something that's equitable. You know what I think is missing from this conversation, though, and I've constantly thought this hearing a lot of, you know, Chris Williamson and Stephen Bartlett and all of those kind
Starting point is 00:18:39 of almost red pill adjacent conversations is that I actually do think there's a huge gap in the fact that feminism has brought women so far but we actually haven't done a very good job whatsoever at redefining what it is to be a man in society. And I'm not saying that as a like, oh, feel sorry for them. i'm saying that while we have redefined what women can be and what they you know give back to the world i actually don't think that we have done that at all for men and so they're left with and this is misogyny this is misogyny that impacts men as well and that's why we have this understanding
Starting point is 00:19:14 that we only want to date across and up totally it's misogyny i also think there's just a level of decision fatigue and mental exhaustion when you are single now there is so much opportunity and so much choice the grass is always greener you can go online in bed and find somebody that appears to be better than the person you're currently dating you don't know that but they got a hot picture with a dog and they say live life love and all of a sudden you're like their life looks really good they link their instagram which is a highlight reel we used to find somebody and have to work really hard at that relationship and you didn't just up and leave when something got hard but now it there's so many options that you're like well fuck a I'll find someone better
Starting point is 00:19:56 so that you leave that relationship but b the fatigue and exhaustion mentally and physically that comes with being single and dating and like churning through people on dates and I say churning because that's what you end up doing when you actively and intentionally are trying to find someone it is exhausting because you don't want to waste your time talking to them but you still have to meet them you still have to figure out if you're that you person you still have to screen them so you are constantly telling your story over and over again doing the due diligence on that person and going on a date and then you're like fuck they're not for me I'll do it again and you get dating burnout yeah but I think that works on both sides right like I think that women
Starting point is 00:20:34 churn through in it okay both sides that's why there's so many single people yeah not just females I'm talking about men as well. And obviously this is like I mean this chat isn't just something that can be applied to heterosexual relationships but it is predominantly applied to heterosexual relationships especially when you're looking at something like The Economist who's talking about birth rates in the future and the you know decreasing population and all of these things. I guess the big and like the thing that I'm always left with whenever I read any of this is like who is it a disadvantage to and I'm really not sure what the answer is to that like are as women are we disappointed with the dating pool and that's why we've checked out
Starting point is 00:21:13 or is it that we have you know I don't think we've set our standards too high I think our standards need to needed to be re-evaluated and I think we have done that and unfortunately there's a lot of people that are not meeting up to the standards so there's a choice to be single but I think that it's too black and white either direction and there probably is some gray in the middle for a lot of people. Well, speaking of dating, it is that time of year again. I feel like every single year we get those, the naming of new dating terms, like situationship. And I think last year, a really key one was zombying and breadcrumbing. You spoke about shrekking. Shrekking. Like personally, I think I say this every year. I'm so exhausted by putting a label on everything.
Starting point is 00:21:55 I love it. I love it. I think it makes it easy to understand. It gives it a word. What was my favourite sex position of last year? I can't remember the name of it. Missionary. No, I don't mind naming sex positions. It was the hamster wheel. It's the one where you, like, lay on your arm. No, it was the, what's the little hamster?
Starting point is 00:22:12 Hamstering. And it's where you lay on top of the car with the roof down, like, you know, you slide the sunroof back and you get the guy to lay on it and put his dick out and then you give him a blowjob. It was a lot. Did anyone ever try that? Thirsty hamster or something. The thirsty hamster.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Where has that been all my life? Thank God we revisited that in 2026. Did you try that ever? No. You need a sunroof. Do you have a sunroof? I've got one. I've got a sunroof.
Starting point is 00:22:33 I've got one. Can we use your car? What, you and Matt? Ew. Yeah, I'll get Matt to lay on the roof. We'll give it a go. We'll come back. We need content for next week.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Well, you've got, no, use your own car. You've got too much shit. You've got baby seats to shoot in. Yeah, but mine's one of those tiny sunroofs. You know, like the little. How much does Matt need, mate? That's all he needs, man. He doesn't need a big one.
Starting point is 00:22:51 How much did they pay you to put that in? We've just got a little baby sunroof for ants. Perfect. No, so there have been some new ones that have come out. And I guess as much as I just think we do over-label things, I understand why people like it. I understand it makes you feel a bit less alone when you can share a term with someone and be like, oh, have you been zombied as well?
Starting point is 00:23:12 You know, like whatever the term is. I do get it. But I always think who comes up with it? Is there just someone on a computer that's like amalgamating words? because the first one I want to tell you is ghost lighting. Like who put these words together? So I'm guessing it's like the amalgamation of ghosting and gaslighting, right?
Starting point is 00:23:30 So is it when someone ghosts you but then gaslights you about ghosting you and says that they didn't ghost you? Pretty much. Is that it? Well played. Yes, that's a Harvard answer. Ghost lighting is when someone effectively ghosts or slow fades on you only to randomly pop back up later
Starting point is 00:23:46 and reinitiate conversations as if nothing happened. Oh, so it's like zombying but pretending like you didn't. Yeah, but then they act crazy when you bring it up. Yeah, right. So it is an amalgamation of the words and everyone does it. Like you don't pop back up and then say, sorry, I gaslit and ghosted you. You pop up like nothing happened. I've done that before.
Starting point is 00:24:07 I did that to someone after two years. I was like, hey, you ready for that date? And I pretended like nothing had ever happened. There'd been two years between us talking a lot. I mean, there's no way you can pretend like that didn't happen. I did. Do you know what it more pertains to though? no this pertains to the sort of person like they're all hot they're all on they're messaging
Starting point is 00:24:22 you multiple times a day and then you just can feel when that thing shifts right you can feel when it goes a few days and the intensities dwindle like they're still there they haven't just completely ghosted you but then all of a sudden they're acting like oh nothing happened and that shift didn't occur and that I think that that is what like starts to make you get on your toes and start to feel a bit crazy and then you because you crave consistency right when something changes that's when you do start to feel crazy and so to me this type of ghost lighting behavior really lends itself to what narcissists do when they will gaslight you in terms of like they love bomb you and then they pull back then they love bomb you and then they
Starting point is 00:24:59 pull back and it's the start of something far more toxic well the next one is zip coding now this is one that i wish i did better and i tried to do i tried to zip code hard zip coding is where you like you can't be fucked to date outside your zip code because it's too hard radius to one kilometer so when you're online and you can set your radius right it's like do i really want to date someone on the other side of sydney the first thing you think about is the logistics well if i have a date who's going to come to who if i have to meet him it's a 40 minute drive either way i don't know the person yet so everybody sets their radius to your zip code but personally i very quickly went outside of my zip code I went outside of my city I had I ended up going
Starting point is 00:25:41 internationally like I had to download a dating app that fucked Australia off and was like who else is out there in the world but at the time you met him because he was in Bondi so it was local no I used to outdo my zips all the time so online dating gives you an alert and says there's no more radius so I would put my I would start with a small radius and then you would grow your radius Keisha don't act like yeah but that's just when we get desperate that's got nothing to do with zip coding that's just like fucking I exhausted all fish in this zip code I'll go to the next one and the next one and now I'm dating men in China yeah but it's like I get it I think zip coding's a thing you want to make life as easy as possible time is a hot commodity and our friend I'm not
Starting point is 00:26:19 going to name her but she was a prime example of this recently she met a guy online and he was like probably an hour drive away and she ended up going to him for the first day and it was a disaster. And she's like, I've literally wasted like five hours of my day, an hour and a half. It was an hour drive. She had to get public transport. So it was like, and it was just, no one has that time and energy anymore. So I'm about zip coding. The only problem is, is that you do run out of people pretty quickly. All right. Well, next one is that the golden retriever boyfriend, which I feel as though it's the perfect description for the person that we can all envisage. He is loving, positive, energetic, loyal, and uncomplicated. He's not
Starting point is 00:27:00 playing games he's the overly nice and caring type who puts you before himself no man wants to be called a golden retriever but the thing is they they are the type of guy you should date like they are the man you should date they're the ones your mum wants you to end up with and they're always the one you don't because they're too nice but like you should date a golden retriever especially like i don't want a dog shame but if we're talking about dog terms you want a golden retriever you don't want like a pit bull you don't want someone that comes for you hard you know well don't look at me like that i was trying to think of another dog that might be like a shit dog today i have nothing against pit bulls okay they do get a bad rap but not all men
Starting point is 00:27:34 not all people it's one of those things the next one's like i really liked these black cat boyfriend and black cat girlfriend the black cat boyfriend is the mysterious slightly moody counterpart to the golden retriever boyfriend they're often independent intellectual and maybe a bit artsy they can seem cold and standoffish but they're just affectionate on their own terms and they can be quite selective with their attention. So like a cat, you know. They sound toxic as fuck. Yeah, a little bit.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Like no one wants to date a cat. Cats are, and I have one. I love my cat. We don't hear about Roz very much. Because she is an asshole. They gave her away. No, no, she's an asshole. She is a typical cat.
Starting point is 00:28:13 You cannot predict whether or not she's going to love you. And she might love you in the morning and hate you in the afternoon. She might saddle up to you because you're going to give her some biscuits and then she might try and swipe your eyes out in the afternoon. Like she is unpredictable. that should not be a quality that you look for in your dating life like I would never date a cat but it might be a quality that you try and aspire to be like because I should have been more like that I really want to be known to this podcast I also will never date a dog but I just do that
Starting point is 00:28:39 no but if you had to choose between a golden retriever and a cat you're choosing the golden retriever Keisha you give golden retriever I know that's why I needed more cat personality when I was dating I was just I was just fucking hopeless I was like the golden retriever panting at the door being like I'll go for a walk with anybody you got a treat anybody can pat me I don't know the cat thing though feels pretty toxic I wouldn't want to be either let's just be humans also we're laughing with you not at you okay look the last one that we wanted to talk about today and it's only just happened so I do want to preface this in case anything changes in this story oh we're talking about the story we are we are talking about it Keisha brought it up only just a little
Starting point is 00:29:17 while ago and she was like we must talk about this and then I was frightened I was like the The poor girl that we're about to talk to, she might have taken some medication. She might have had a health issue. We don't know. Or she might have had too many cocktails. I think it's hilarious. So there is a presenter, news presenter. Her name is Danica Mason, and she works on the Today Show.
Starting point is 00:29:36 She's been overseas reporting for the Winter Olympics, right? And so she's there amongst it. It seems as though she is very much getting amongst it, one might say. She's very much on the ground in Italy, like literally and metaphorically. She's like, she's on the ground. She's like the snow angels. She's laying on the ground. what's come out it's actually it's look it's all very tongue-in-cheek at the moment but we we don't
Starting point is 00:29:55 know how it's going to pan out in the next couple of days but it seems as though she's had a few too many wines before she's gotten on to present for the today show she's slurring her words i want to put a little bit of a grab of what she sounds like in here because it's a cross so between karl stefanovic and they're crossing to her talking about what's coming up on you know in the olympics or where they're at and it really does raise questions it sounds like she's drunk have a listen to this literally the like the price of coffee over here is actually fine it's more the price of coffee in the u.s that we are gonna have to get used to i'm not sure about the iguanas where are we going with that one but anyway let's get into the day spot because there
Starting point is 00:30:37 is plenty happening back home we're gonna start off with some actual brits from broncos um gearing from actually their trip to the U.S., the U.K. rather, because Reece Walsh has stolen the show. What a perfect person to be on the other end though, Carl, because he's done that in the past. He's got some experience with turning up to work and reporting a bit. My thing is, though, does anyone care? Like some of these articles are like,
Starting point is 00:31:03 bizarre moment today show Danica Mason slurs her way through a rambling report from the Winter Olympics with Carlin Stitches and Channel 9 turning off comments. who fucking cares let the girl live she's not reported just with a bit of zest she's not reporting on like heartbreaking news there's not been a crime no one's died it's the winter olympics everyone is having a bit of fun we've been watching the curling for fuck's sake no one even knew that was a sport until recently what did we did well i did it i learned about it this week i think if there's ever a time to present and be drunk it's at the olympics i just think who hasn't once
Starting point is 00:31:38 upon a time showed up to work a little bit buzzed. I don't think I have actually because I was in a hospital like literally resuscitating people. So I definitely have on record never turned up to work. I have turned up for work straight from being out all night and not going home. You've also not turned up to work because you got drunk. Do you know what?
Starting point is 00:31:55 Maybe that's the take home. Don't go to work. No, at least she showed up for work. This isn't an Australian inspiration. I, on the other hand, called in sick, but she at least made it to her cross. I really hope she doesn't feel the need to kind of, remember when Barnaby got, was it two years ago?
Starting point is 00:32:12 It was kind of recently. He got caught, someone filmed him on the street and he'd fallen into a planter box. He was absolutely hammered. He was absolutely wasted. And he came out and he's like, you know, I'm sorry, I'm on some medication that like you shouldn't mix with alcohol. And I was like, mate, that's the best thing.
Starting point is 00:32:33 that's the most humanizing thing you've ever done or said it was so funny and like who hasn't at one point in their lives fallen into a garden she's also she's cute like she's nailing it she's not offending anyone it's it is very australian and she's in italy it's apres ski like that's what you do you drink enough you ski you drink and then usually those people don't have to report onto live television but she did i think she did a great job i haven't yet seen a better snow angel this year than what she laid down and presented if you haven't seen it so not only is she slurring her words she then runs over to a big pile of snow and lays down and starts doing snow angels like it's i want to be friends with her and i'm okay with it it's my favorite thing that's come out
Starting point is 00:33:17 i know we've won some gold medals but this stops it for me was she reporting on an actual sport or Was she just like overall talking about like what the vibe is like? I think the, I mean, believe it or not, I wasn't watching live. I've only seen the videos of it, little snip downs. But she does the sports reporting usually. Like she comes from the NRL world. She's been a sports reporter for the rugby league for a really long time. And she's on the Today Show regularly talking about sports.
Starting point is 00:33:41 She was Alex Cullen. We spoke about him last year. He's the guy who, there was that whole big saga because he was dismissed from the Today Show for taking that money from Lamborghini guy. He took 50 grand. Even though he donated it and there was that whole, so she was his replacement. And look, I think it's absolutely hilarious. The only thing that we actually might know by the time this airs that I think I will
Starting point is 00:34:05 keep a keen eye on, remember when Kyle did do it from the Logies and he was kind of given a little bit of a free pass, like a, hey, it was pretty funny. It definitely is spoken about. It's like one of the most viral videos that's ever come out of Australia. Don't do it again. you know like you're not in any big trouble but just don't do don't make a habit of it but it's also it was a bit different because he came off like the biggest the night of nights of his industries once that was it yeah yeah whereas she's just having a great time she's just out
Starting point is 00:34:32 there living her best life what i mean is it'll be interesting if she's treated any differently if it is found to be that she just had a couple cocktails well i don't know though because like like brit just said i mean when everyone's been at the logies like you know that you've been at the logies they probably were up for a nomination or something like it's an award night to celebrate at the industry and he has to be on TV at 6 or whatever time it was the next day. Like he rolled in. And I think most of us, I mean, maybe for some listeners
Starting point is 00:34:58 it might be before your time, but like it was pretty fucking funny and also iconic at the time because everyone knew that they'd just come off the Logies. Whereas like she hasn't been sent there for an awards ceremony. You don't know that she's not passionate about curling, Laura. Don't take that away from her. She's not winning. If she was winning an Olympic award and it was just off the ceremony
Starting point is 00:35:17 and she was buzzed the next day, she's been sent there to do work and that's the one reason she's there. So if she has got maggot and then done a cross promote, I do understand why whatever channel it is has turned around and been like, actually. Maybe it's the altitude. Maybe she's high in the mountains. That's true.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Karl Stefanovic did on the cross. He came out and said it's really cold over there because it's so cold. The temperature affects your ability to speak in your lips and I'm not sure if he was taking the piss. No, it is true. It is hard to speak in the cold for sure. My lips have frozen before, but this is definitely slurring it. Do you know, I think it's funny.
Starting point is 00:35:54 I couldn't care less. I think most Australians couldn't care less. If someone is turning up every day and they're drunk reporting, it's a problem. We're not saying she was drunk at all. We do not know what it is. Allegedly. I'm sure she has made a statement by this point.
Starting point is 00:36:07 And just to reiterate, at the time of recording, this came out an hour ago. Like we're just watching it. We haven't heard any responses yet. So it might've changed a lot, but I just think like it's quite Australian. Relax, have a little bit of a laugh. Take it with a grain of salt. No snowman was harmed in the making of that cross.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Let's just let her live. Anyway, on that note, we're out of here. Keep your Ask Uncut coming into Instagram. You can write to us at Life Uncut Podcast. If you want, and it's a bit longer, we do get a lot of emails. Like if you can't quite fit into a DM. Or if you could try and just make it shorter, that'd be great. No, Laura.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Oh, some people's problems need unpacking. I know, but like sometimes the emails are too long and if they're too long, we can't read it out. So just keep it, keep it. Send them in, guys. Can I be honest about something? Some people send them in voice notes. Oh, don't do that.
Starting point is 00:36:57 I don't want them in a voice note unless you want me to play your voice on because I have to sit there typing. We're not here to dictate your inner thoughts. Send an email, send a DM. We will unpack it on the next Ask Uncut. I don't care personally how long your email is if it's good, but no voice notes. Well, Brittany's email is BrittanyHockley.
Starting point is 00:37:13 No. I know. I read all the emails and I condense them when we need them. But also keep your accent filters, confessionals. We love some confessionals because Married at First Sight has started and we do love a confessional, so we're going to bring that back. You will always be anonymous. And a really, really big one is YouTube.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Please go and hit subscribe. And just that's a really good way to support us in our new venture right now because we're really trying over there. We're really hustling. Well, you know the drill. Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friends and share the love because we love love!
