Life Uncut - Offcuts: Why Brittany Almost Missed Laura's Wedding and 'Dude That's Ai'

Episode Date: October 23, 2026

Hey Lifers! Welcome to Offcuts, your little weekend snack! First up, some very exciting news: we are interviewing Hedley Thomas, the journalist behind The Teacher’s Pet and the new podcast The P...oisoned Wife, after his niece Sophie (a Lifer, of course) slid into our DMs. We also have a very special Halloween Offcuts coming next week, with a medium joining us in the studio! Then we go back to kindergarten. Lola’s first ever speech was “what I want to be when I grow up” (ballerina, famous, pretty dress), and we reminisce about the most coveted classroom jobs of the 90s. Brittany also gets her first taste of the preschool waitlist panic, and we find out it starts way before you think. Next, a debate we can’t stop having: would you invoice someone who RSVP’d to your wedding and never showed up? We also look at the birthday party invoice, and the etiquette of turning up with extra kids. Plus, a confession from Brittany: she was once invited to an intimate Beyonce show in Dubai on the same day as Laura’s wedding. We hear how close she came to missing it (and Laura’s champagne tower thoughts). Then, Sylvester Stallone has just said what every Hollywood parent is thinking: of course he cast his daughter in Tulsa King, because “that’s why we’re parents.” We get into nepotism and whether any of us would do the same for our own kids. We close out with a very relatable internet moment. Instagram is testing a read only mode, so no more accidental double taps on an ex’s 2017 photos (Brittany remembers exactly how she met a certain “hot guy with a dog”). And Brittany shares the AI pyramid video she reposted to her stories, the one that literally says it’s AI. We talk about why we all keep falling for it, and why getting called out is so deflating. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi guys and welcome to your little num num num noms. It's the weekend. It's Life on Cart and I'm Laura. Oh, is that your actual start? Yeah, that's my intro. I think you're going to regret that later. I'm Brittany and you are. You're going to regret that. 100%. I'm just here for the feels. You know, I'm just here to like try something new today.
Starting point is 00:00:29 I love that we get to the weekend. Laura just checks out. She's like, off cuts. I'm just doing whatever the fuck comes out of this now. Actually, that's not true. We have another interview after this. I know you're joking that this is the weekend. But we bread come to this last, oh, like maybe about. A month ago, we were talking about, I vived it, Hedley Thomas, who has got the new podcast out, The Poisoned Wife. It's amazing. He's also the one who created the teacher's pet, also amazing. We said on that episode, and I was like, maybe we should interview him. Maybe you said it. I don't know, but I agreed. I thought it was a great idea. And then guess what? We got a little DM slide in.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Yeah, apparently, the best and most decorated journalist in Australia listens to Life Uncutt and he heard it, and he's like, girls, I would love to come on the podcast. No, it wasn't Hedley specifically. It was actually his niece, his niece, Sophie, because she's a life She heard the call and she answered the call. And so now we are interviewing him next. Yes. Well, we don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. So as much as Sophie is a lifer, Hedley is too.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Hedley was also listening to the podcast with his niece alongside his knee. Anyway, it's very exciting because we are very big fans of Hedley. I want a bread come something. Tell me. You've become an episode. I want a bread come one. I am thrilled to say that as much as Laura vetoed my ghost series, which is still in the work, just because Laura Vito, it doesn't mean I can't do it on the side.
Starting point is 00:01:42 But I have got something over the line. We have a very special off-cuts coming for you next week, which is, in fact, Halloween. We are going to speak to a ghosty, not a real ghost, but a medium. It's a shame we couldn't get a ghost in the studio. No, they did come in. You just couldn't see them. So the episode didn't work. They were here.
Starting point is 00:02:01 They're actually behind you now, but it's hard if you can't see them. What does the ghost have to say? What's that? I agree, actually. I can't tell you, actually. suitable for the podcast. Okay, right. We'll talk about it later. Perfect. You idiot. So we've got a medium, a psychic, somebody that's going to be coming in. It's a Halloween, ghost dedicated episode. And I think it's going to be very cool. Do you know what? I love that 10 years ago,
Starting point is 00:02:25 Halloween was just not a thing in Australia. Like, no one really celebrated when we were young, no one celebrated it. You were kind of weird if you went around trick or treating and asking people for lollies. You'd knock on the door and they'd be like, get off my front yard. I wasn't allowed to do it as a kid. Well, I think I did it once or twice. And, Mom was like, Stranger Danger. And you definitely just shocked people. Like, people were like, why the fuck are you knocking on my front door? Ask you for food.
Starting point is 00:02:45 I'm hungry. You get like a musli bar and an apple. But now it's just, I know it's different in different areas, but in Sydney it is out of control. It is almost to the comparable of Christmas. So the kids are so excited. I have not yet organized the costumes. Thank God for overnight deliveries. So that will probably be a next week issue.
Starting point is 00:03:03 I'll sort that out. Lola wants to go as a ballerina and Mali wants to go as a vampire. Marley understands the brief a bit more. Yeah, Lola, she's just living life, just dancing to the beat of her own drum, that kid. I mean, I think at the moment Halloween's just dress up. I think you can do whatever you want. There's some scary ballerinas, I'm sure. Well, I was like, do you want to go as like a zombie ballerina?
Starting point is 00:03:21 And she was like, no, a ballerine. Like a cute, pretty one. I want to be beautiful. Sure. Play on. And I was like, okay, well, what if we put like a spider web on your face? Like a tattoo spider web and she was like, ew. Ew.
Starting point is 00:03:31 No ballerina has spider web, mom. She's like, I want a bun with hairspray. Fuck off. And I was like, okay. Does Halloween fall on a dance? said for day because that would be perfect. Two birds, one stone. She's just started ballet. She actually had to do a speech at school on this week. So, Moly did. Yeah, kindergarten. Species. Dude, the pressure now. Presentation. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Starting point is 00:03:51 That is hefty. All we used to do is want to be the person that flipped the page over on the projector. Like, that was what we were aiming for in the class. We were like, pick me. Now they're doing speeches and shit. Okay, no, you know what you wanted to be when you were a kid when you were in kindergarten? You wanted to be the kid that was picked to be able to go and get the lunch order canteen. we used to have a washing basket and all of the paper bags would go into the washing basket and you wanted to be the kid that was responsible enough to take the washing basket down to the canteen and go and pick it up pre-lunch. I just think you wanted to have any job in you are special.
Starting point is 00:04:21 So the main jobs that come to mind for me when like back in the kindi days, you either were a projector person. So you know how you had to pull the page up the projector slowly as people were reading it and pointing and then flip it? A lot of pressure that one. It was collecting the money for the Combank where you put a dollar in. You know how you start investing as kids? You had that like investor mite thing when you were a kid, like it was a con bank thing.
Starting point is 00:04:42 The dollar accounts, whatever it was. Everyone got like a free dollar put into their bank accounts. Or you got to clean the blackboard. Remember somebody got to come up and wipe down the blackboard with the chalk eraser? No. My school was very advanced. They were the jobs where you were like frothing to get. I forgot what I was going to say now.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I told you, you astroplane. No. Lola did a speech. Ballerina. She wants to be a ballerina when she grows up. The presentation was on, what do you want to be when you grow up? And her entire speech was meant to go for a minute. but this was pretty much it in the summary.
Starting point is 00:05:08 I want to be a ballerina when I grew up because I want to wear a pretty dress. I want to dance in front of my mum and my dad. And I want to be famous. Thank you. That was the speech. How long was it supposed to go? A minute. It was about 20 seconds and long pauses in between while she remembered her.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Reason one. I think she's already got them. She dances for you guys. She wears dresses and she is sort of famous by proxies. Nah. Yes. The kids don't know. They don't know what's going on.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Whether she knows it or not, yeah, there's hundreds of thousands of people that know what she looks like. She's famous. Oh, well, she peaked too young. She's going to retire. Mate, get that kid out of school. She doesn't need it anymore. She really did peep too young. That's a poor little Lola.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Oh, well. Continue on. Something sent me into a tizzy the other day, and I know you've been talking about it. We spoke about it briefly, like a couple months ago maybe on the podcast. Somebody said to me, have you thought about enrolling your kid into preschool? I was like, my kid's the size of a pair. My kid does not exist yet. I have no.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I haven't bought one thing for this child. I have not bought one baby thing. I have not thought about where it's going to high school. No, not high school, preschool. The preschool thing, depending on where you live is real. And you know what? I used to think it was just a city thing. I used to think it was just when you lived in specific cities,
Starting point is 00:06:18 you had to be really like pre-booking your kid into preschools. But I was talking to a girlfriend of mine who lives in a country town. And she was like, there's so few preschools here, like good, decent ones, that you have to wait like a year to get them onto a wait list to get them into the preschool that you want. So we, yeah. I'm not ready for this pressure. Yeah, there's a lot of organization.
Starting point is 00:06:36 doesn't help if you're a B personality type. It's also the same if you want to get your kids into private school. So Mali will start high school. I mean, she's only in year one, but like she'll go earlier than high school. Because what happens in Sydney is like you have to send them in year four or year five or you three to get a placement because by the time year seven rolls around or the kids are already been placed. They've already been placed.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Yeah. It's like you have to think about it years in advance or beg or borrow. I'm not into it. Or just take them out of school and get them into being child actors. I'm not into this mainstream education. I'm like, I think, I don't know. What are you into then? Guys, this kid's not going to a private school.
Starting point is 00:07:09 I'm a public school girl all the way. If anyone thinks I'm dropping bank on a private school, I'm dropping that to go to Greece every year. I love this pair, but it's not enrolled anyway yet, no. If somebody wants to sneak me into a preschool, slide into my DM. You are not soliciting for a preschool application on the podcast print. This has come up a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. where we have been doing our content prep. And it's come up in different variations of this.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I'll summarize what this most recent one is, but it was a couple who had received an invoice from their cousin because they did not attend the wedding. So basically they received this invoice which said, you know, you didn't come to the wedding. You didn't provide an explanation. And we are invoicing you 76 pound. It happened in the UK.
Starting point is 00:08:00 76 pounds to cover the food costs because you RSVPed. We paid for it and you did not attend. Now, there have been a few of these that have popped up and it seems to be that sometimes these things come through as trends. Like, you know, there's like different articles that relate to similar things. There's been one that came out where a woman was invoiced for a kid's birthday party. And that was, I think, $60 or something. It was $75 as well, similar pricing. Well, the reason for that was because basically this one woman had organized her child's birthday party. Another mom had messaged and said, okay, one of my kids has been invited, but he's actually
Starting point is 00:08:33 a twin come and can I also bring his older brother or sister? And the mum who was organising the birthday party said, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize he was a twin. Absolutely. And you can also bring your other child, but you do have to pay for them. Here is the price of this. What are your thoughts on invoicing someone for RSVPing to something and then not coming and that expense falling on the person who's done the organising? You know, I think it's very situational for this particular wedding question that you started with, not the kid's birthday, the wedding. So a cousin doesn't turn up. I think if you just don't turn up, it's not that you were sick, you didn't write ahead and say, oh my God, something has happened. There's a family emergency. I can't make it. If you just
Starting point is 00:09:15 don't have the balls or can't be fucked to turn up to a wedding and you are a no show, then I think I would probably invoice them out of the principle. I would be so pissed off for just the audacity of how rude that is. Whereas maybe I don't need the $70. Maybe it's not about that. I would just be like, that is a high. of rudeness and you can pay for it. Yeah, I actually, when I read through the article and like the explainer for it, I think it was a real fuck you moment. I think it was because that RSVP, they'd provide no information. They just simply had not turned up on the day. And the invoice wasn't so much because they were trying to claw back the $75. It was a statement of like,
Starting point is 00:09:51 you don't even have the respect to send me a message and explain to me or a card or anything to explain to me the reason why you didn't attend. You just RSVPed and then did not attend. But I think it can kind of expand out. Like I do think that there is some, I guess, like, gray area when it comes to the sense of ownership. If someone RSVPs to something and then their plans change, let's say it's not an emergency, let's just say you've RSVP to a wedding and then, you know, you've found it hard to find childcare, but you've had six months or whatever to plan that, do you not still think
Starting point is 00:10:23 that there are moments and I guess like situations where you've RSVPED, the time has gone for which you can redact your confirmation? and you've left that person now out of pocket because you weren't organized enough to sort yourself out or even something better came up and therefore you've chosen that over the thing you are as VP for in the first place. Yeah, you've just reminded me and you know I love Memory Lane. Let's take you back. Some of you a few years ago will remember this, but I have forgotten about it until you just said something better comes up.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Oh God, did I do dice do you're something? No, it was me. I'm like, for law. I'm so sorry. Anyone you hear. I had, some may say it's not a huge choice. I had a very big decision to make at Laura's wedding. I was invited to Laura's wedding, obviously.
Starting point is 00:11:05 I had RSVP'd, obviously. You signed my wedding certificate. I almost didn't go to your wedding because I got invited to an intimate, intimate show and stay in the World Seven Star Hotel, an intimate show by Beyonce. I got invited to go there. Everything paid for. I would sit in a room with Beyonce and watch her sing. I could have probably touched her.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I got it. I got invited to do that and everything paid for. Like, this is the trip of you could not. Where was it? Where were you going? In Dubai in a seven-star hotel with superstars from all over the world there. Like, Shakira went to that one. Like, I don't know how I got an invite to this day.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Question, how close did you come to not coming? Mate, it was touch and go. It was. Did you talk to Keisha about this? I spoke to everyone about it. I could talk to a medium. In all honesty, deep down, It was never an actual consideration.
Starting point is 00:12:05 But I... That's a lot. I was angry at the universe because I was like, are you fucking kidding me, man? I never have anything on. Like, I don't have that many friends. They don't get married. Laura's had this wedding,
Starting point is 00:12:14 pushback for three years and it finally falls on the day Beyonce wants to hang out with me. When I say it was a tough decision, it was tough, but it wasn't tough. Because it was tough because obviously the opportunity is incredible. But I deep down knew that I had a business to run and our friendship depended on it. I was never going to miss it. I don't know how I would have responded. I don't know how. I would have...
Starting point is 00:12:33 Well, you never have to worry. I know, but when I think about it, if you come to me and said, hey, two weeks out from the wedding, hey, I've just had a bit of a change of plan. I'm going to go to Dubai because Beyonce is doing a surprise concert, an intimate surprise concert, and my dinner's paid for. No, no, my dinner. Everything. My, mate, it was...
Starting point is 00:12:50 I'm joking. I'll tell you. I can't tell on the spot if I would be like, fuck, yeah, once in a lifetime. Or if I'd be like, make it to my second wedding. It's not like I tried. You didn't know because I didn't even float it with you. It's not like, oh my God, how crazy is this, Laura? I got invited to Beyonce, but until your wedding.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I can't go. It's not like I even gave you the opportunity to say you should go because I was never going to go, but it hurt my soul. No, I understand that. I'm grateful that you chose me. I am. Do you know what the good thing is? The good thing is, is that Matt and I are still married and we love each other.
Starting point is 00:13:22 I'd be pissed if you weren't. Yeah, we have all intentions of staying together forever. So like, imagine if we were divorced by now, you'd be like, fuck's sake. I could be in Beyonce's click, B's click. I could be, do you know, who knows where my life could have gone if I went to that? Nowhere. Because no, there's a... No difference.
Starting point is 00:13:37 It would be in exactly the same spot except I'd be angry at you because you missed my wedding. You don't know that. I could, who knows what could have happened in that moment? I could have been shooting for the stars, but I chose loyalty, love business. Look, coming back to this question, do you think there is an etiquette or do you think it crosses a line to send an invoice? It's definitely a power move. It's definitely like you are putting a real.
Starting point is 00:14:01 statement in either the friendship or the relationship by saying, hey, you didn't come to this, I'm going to invoice you for this. Like, I think you're making a statement by doing that, but do you think it crosses a line? I think that some people just don't respect other people's time or money. I think in the situation, they didn't do anything wrong. And I don't think the person's going to pay. I think if you don't care enough to even say you're not going to a wedding, then you don't care enough if you get a $70 bill after the fact. Your cousin, you're never seen your cousin again. They're doing a runner. I can guarantee they don't have your bank details. And I don't think they're putting the money in your account. But I think good luck to her. Okay, what do you think
Starting point is 00:14:33 of the second example I gave? And I know I kind of like front-ended it, but the situation where it was a mom who had been asked by another person if they could bring more kids to the birthday party. And the birthday party's at a place where it's an event, you've got to pay for every additional child. Do you think that that is a fair instance to say, yes, you can bring them, but you have to pay for the additional children? You know, I do. And if you ask me if it was a party, if it was the kind of party that I grew up having, it wouldn't have made a difference. We used to have big parties at a park where you had to go in the morning and you would shotgun at picnic tables and everyone can come. And it was just like a huge event and you'd string up balloons in the trees and whatever else and it was different, right? But now they're so
Starting point is 00:15:12 elaborate and everything costs a lot of money. If you're going to like a playgroup thing that costs $50 entry, that shouldn't then fall on the mother of the child to just be paying for their friends siblings. Like that to me, it's fine if they're all friends and they're invited. But I think you need to a little bit self-aware if you're the parents saying, hey, can I bring these extra kids? I don't want them to miss out. I'll front it. I think that's what they should be saying. Like, I'll pay their entry fee.
Starting point is 00:15:35 But it's a lot of money to be expecting people just to pay for a kid's birthday party these days. It happens a lot. And like, you know, I'll be honest. I've been guilty of it at times. Like, if you're solo parenting and you've got three kids and you want to be able to take your kid to a birthday party, but it's not drop and go, then there is always going to be times where, like, you're like, okay, I'm arriving, but I've got more children with me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And some birthday parties are easier to do. do it at than others. I feel like we're getting into a really good place now because like a lot of the birthday parties that our kids are going to are drop and go because they're getting a little bit older. But, you know, for example, we went to one recently. It was at Plastermaster Master. I had all three kids. I dropped Mali off at Plastermaster. And of course, Lola was upset. She wanted to go. So I was like, we'll sit separately and we'll just do our own little thing. And then when Mali's ready, we can go. And the mum was so kind. The mom was like, don't be silly. She can join. It's not a big deal. It's fine. But like, even that in itself, like, I don't know. I'm like, sometimes I think you've
Starting point is 00:16:28 got to ask the question, I definitely don't think that you could just show up and expect that you can bring additional kids to a birthday party. Amen. The real question here is, and I'm going to put this out to you guys, if you've got your friend's wedding, but you also get asked to an intimate one-off event with Beyonce, all expenses paid trip, what one are you doing? Mate, poll that. If you guys all say that you would rather go and see Beyonce, then come to my wedding, I will be deeply hurt. No, not you. It's not you're invited to Laura's wedding. It's just like if you had a friend's wedding, like I want you guys to put yourself in that position. A life is we're all intimate friends here. We're all besties.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Imagine you, you know, he invited to my wedding and then you decided to go to Beyonce's concert instead. We know the choice I made. Did I email Beyonce's team and ask if there was space for more? Any chance that she could move the date? Maybe. Turns out she was pretty locked in. You're like, can I bring Laura?
Starting point is 00:17:14 I'll bring her. Laura, I got you an invite. Can you miss your own wedding? There was one point that I looked at flights to see that if I could get back like an hour before the wedding. It didn't happen. Best wedding ever. My favorite part was the champagne tower that went for.
Starting point is 00:17:27 That went for 45 minutes. Rumor has it. It's still flowing. Guys, if you have ever had a champagne tower at a wedding... Pre-fill it. You've got to pre-fill the bottom glasses because otherwise it takes a really long time. We learned that lesson. We went through like six bottles to try and fill the champagne.
Starting point is 00:17:48 And everyone was like, okay. And everyone was still clapping. It went for like 45 minutes. 10 minutes of me just pouring champagne and people were like, Yay. You also had to like unwind the next bottles and pops so how many bottles. Just keep it flow. It was, yeah, it lost some steam, but it was a beautiful photograph.
Starting point is 00:18:05 It was my favorite part. Okay, next up, I want to talk about nepotism. Can I get my child into a preschool? No, I'm joking, but not joking, sliding. So this has come off the back of Sylvester Stallone. We all know Sylvester Stallone, right? He's like Rocky, the jacked, Rocky actor. Yeah, I'm more saying that for Laura, because sometimes she gets people mixed up.
Starting point is 00:18:23 No, some of the real legacy people I know who they are. Sylvester Stallone is, like, not knowing who Miranda Kerr is or something. That was a weird link. It's like The Rock. I would have linked the Rock. No, because not Marantica. Everyone in Australia knows who Miranda Kerr is. It's just like, do you know who Miranda Kerr is?
Starting point is 00:18:41 Yes, of course. Is she the number one Aussie celebrity pops to your mind? Everyone knows who Tom Hanks is. Not Australian. No, I know, but there's just like some people that like everyone knows. I probably would have gone like Nicole Gimman. Yeah, everyone knows who she is too. I agree.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Hugh Jackman. Every time you think of Sylvester Stallone, you don't think of Miranda. No, it wasn't the immediate link. But I see how you've found your way there. And I'm here to support you. I do, you do. Imagine Miranda Kerr listening. Not knowing who Silvesta Salon is, is similar to not knowing who
Starting point is 00:19:09 Miranda Kerr is. Imagine Miranda Kerr listening to our podcast and being like, fuck, that. I don't reckon she listens. She does. She's a big fan. I think she actually wanted to come on once. Do you remember when we went to her skincare launch? Yeah, we're friends.
Starting point is 00:19:22 We got a photo with her. She was so hot. Men, but her just looking like a painting, like a beautiful doll. Sylvester Stallone, I think the same thing. So similar. Painting, beautiful, tidy little man. Okay, Sylvester's alone. Did you just call him a tidy little man?
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah, because when I think of Miranda, she's tidy. I don't know. She's neat. She's put together. Oh, sorry, that tickled me. Go. This is just an interesting, I haven't heard anyone talk about nepotism in the way that he did it. He's very blunt, he's very forward, and I want to open up this conversation.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I don't know if you've ever seen this series, Tulsa King. No. I watched it. It is like, he's a mob star. It's good if you're into that kind of thing. Great review. It's good. I watched it years ago.
Starting point is 00:20:07 It's just traditional, cliche, drug mobster vibe. I didn't know this, but he brought his daughter into play a role. She was playing a waitress. I think she's like a teenager, 19 or something. He's done it when she was 11 as well. Like he did it when she was younger. So he cast her as an actress. Yeah, he just cast her as an actress.
Starting point is 00:20:23 He not only was the lead actor, I think he was producing it as well. Like he's pretty involved in the show. And of course, the question has come that it's nepotism and you shouldn't be favoring your child. You don't just get to do that. It's unfair. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I want to read you what he said. Quote, first they go, nepotism is terrible.
Starting point is 00:20:41 And I said, oh, please, you're not a good parent if you haven't performed a little nepotism. Then obviously you don't care about your kids because they come first. Of course, it's nepotism, you idiot. That's why we're parents. We want the best for our children. So obviously, we let them have every single advantage. And it was just the first time that I, because you hear this nepotism conversation all the time, so many of Hollywood's kids and nieces and nephews have gotten into the industry through their
Starting point is 00:21:08 parents, right? There's always a conversation about it. And the conversation of the back of it, the answer is always, I've worked really hard for this and I dropped my last name and didn't tell them who I was at the audition so that I could just go and be treated like everyone else. I wanted to win the part on my own. And the parents say the same thing. I didn't call in any favors.
Starting point is 00:21:27 like they have gone to acting school or whatever it is. They've worked really hard for this. It's the first time I've heard anyone be like, fuck yeah, you idiot. It is nepotism, like, as if I'm not going to give her the opportunity. And to be fair, I sort of think I'd do the same. Do you know what? I think the conversation around nepotism is such an interesting one
Starting point is 00:21:45 because, like, yes, absolutely. What Sebastian Stallone has said is correct. Like, if you have children, they are talented enough to do a role. Enough. But do I mean that. Maybe they're not the most talented, person. Maybe if they did a casting call for that specific waitress role, they would have found someone who was better. But if you have a child that is interested, desperately wanting to be
Starting point is 00:22:07 cast in something, shows skills, shows talent, then of course you're going to take opportunities and I guess give them the best opportunity to be able to succeed in something. That can be true. But it can also be true that people are annoyed about it. People can question nepotism. They can question the idea of fairness. but I guess it's like the ultimate concept of networking, right? And I think that, you know, there are some industries where it affects people far greater than other industries. There are some industries in which not only is it like damaging from a morale and culture in terms of like the workplace, it can also be damaging simply because the person's not
Starting point is 00:22:41 qualified for the role. But in the instance of this, it's a small part. It's a non-critical to the actual role of the show to the way in which the movie or the TV show plays out. Give it to your daughter. No one's angry about it. Well, the thing is people are still angry about it because there are still people that have dead. And look, I understand it.
Starting point is 00:23:00 I understand why it feels so deeply, inherently unfair to have come from a normal family in the Burbs, no connection to fame. You've spent your whole life dreaming of something, wanting something, working for it. You've been at acting school for 15 years. You're auditioning three times a week, every week for years. And you know how talented you are and you know how good for a role you are. and then you see somebody else get it that hasn't done the work that's not that good just because they have a famous parent.
Starting point is 00:23:28 You would be so pissed off. But unfortunately, we don't live in a fair world. And I think the question is here, if you as an adult have worked your whole life and you get to the top of success, are you not going to open that door of success to your kids? Are you not going to give that opportunity to them? I think most people, unless you're Bill Gates, who I think he said it's giving nothing to these kids, most parents are going to do exactly what Sylvester Stallone said and say, I'm going to give every opportunity to my kids. I want them to live a better life than I lived, and this is
Starting point is 00:23:59 how I'm going to do it. I think that there's different ways to approach it. Like, there will be some parents out there who will say, like, there's no resilience building in that. There's no, like, allowing your child to succeed and fail and, like, what that builds to their own personal character. But in the same token, I do understand why sometimes people feel so deeply defensive about defending how hard they've worked in order to achieve a role. Because when your parents are successful in the industry that you've also chosen to pursue, you will always live under the cloud of nepotism. It doesn't matter how skilled you become. It doesn't matter how trained you are, how much education or how many knockbacks you've had. Whatever opportunity is presented to you, if your parents are
Starting point is 00:24:39 someone who is successful and works within the same industry, there will always be the question of whether the nepotism played a part. And so I do understand why sometimes there is, you know, like I dropped my last name or I did X, Y, Z. And it's because like they also want to feel as though what they have created in their own life has value beyond what their parents have created for them. It's a tricky one because I don't think that you can extrapolate the nepotism, the same way that you can never just extrapolate the privilege. Like, it's impossible to know exactly how much someone's upbringing, family ties, connection, all this sort of stuff has impacted their ability to be hired for the role or whether they even were the right person for the role. But I do think
Starting point is 00:25:17 that there are some instances where we have to be like, look, yes, it's a reality of it. And I also find it quite maybe disarming the way that Sylvester Stallone is like, yeah, it is nepotism. Get the fuck over it. But then it's great because what do you do with that. You're like, oh, fair. Like he's not arguing the point. So you can't argue with him, which is what I think I like. But also, I don't think it just happens to famous people. It's, you think of the CEO of a company. Imagine there's a law firm, CEO. And there's a guy he went to school with and his daughter. daughter wants an internship because she's also a lawyer, that person will probably get it over strangers that the family doesn't know because it's just a networking thing. And it's, it's not fair,
Starting point is 00:25:52 but it's how the world works. I don't think it just works with being famous. But I quite like the calling a spade to spade. I quite like what he said. I mean, to be honest, like I think about my own businesses, for example. Like I have Tony May. I've had it for 16 years. If my daughter, one of them, shows interest in being a part of Tony May and they show an interest in running it in any way have a leadership role within a company that I've built. I would pursue that. I would enable that. I would love for Mali or Lola, probably Lola because she loves accessories. The girl wants to be a ballerina and not a zombie, so it's going to be her. But I would love for one of them to step into the role of being the creative leader of it. Are they going to be the absolute
Starting point is 00:26:33 best person for that? Is there someone else in the world that might be better equipped to run a jewelry business, potentially? But it's my business. And I want my daughter to take on that legacy. So I mean, I understand the reasoning why it happens, but I also very much understand why it makes people angry and why it feels as though opportunities are being taken away from people who are better qualified. Absolutely. Marinda Kerr feels the same. I feel like we all can relate to the dread of this, the dread of when you're, maybe you're having a little peruse of someone's Instagram or their social media. You're just looking, you're looking at the photos, you're really deep in the archives. We know you like to do that with your exes.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Fuck off. As headlines, I read them. You can fuck right off with that one, pretty. Maybe you're back in 2017 and you're looking at pictures that you shouldn't be looking at. And then you accidentally do a double tap. Or your friends trying to show you a photo of like a guy that she's talking to or a girl that she's talking to. And you take it and you just, you accidentally at the double tap. You hold on a little bit too long like I did to you once, Britt.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Oh, that wasn't an accident. You intentionally threw me under a bus. That could have been the love of my life. Sorry, Ben. We never know what would have been. That's actually a lie because you guys hooked up after the double tap. The double tap helped you. Double tap helped you.
Starting point is 00:27:46 I'm not going to thank you. It did. Britt used to follow this guy who had a dog in Instagram and he had this Instagram dog page. It was on the famous page. There was a page called Hot Guys with Dogs. Okay. So somehow Brittany had made her way through the channels of Instagram.
Starting point is 00:28:02 She'd gone from Hot Guys with Dogs. Saw a Hot Guy with a dog who lived in Bondi, found his personal Instagram page. And we were having a peruse. I'm having a little look because he was very attractive and he had a dog and he lived in Bondi. And Brittany was very single at the time. And she was showing me all these photos because I think you guys had started following each other but nothing more. No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Here's a story now that we're here. My favorite page was Hot Guys with Dogs. Why wouldn't it be? Hot guys, it is what it says it is. A bunch of hot men that had cute dogs. Like that was right up my alley. Very famous, millions of followers. And on the page, I had seen a guy posted a hot guy with his dog.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Go figure up. This story checks out. It's exactly what I just said so far. But I didn't know he was in Bondi. It was just the latest post because it was a puppy. And I was like, oh my God, that's so cute. Swear to God. And this is why I thought the universe was aligning for me.
Starting point is 00:28:50 A day or two later, I was on Bondi promenade going for a walk. And I was like, what the fuck? I swear to God, that's that hot guy from the dog page with a dog. And I looked it up and it was. It was the exact same guy. And he turns out he had decided he wanted to get on the page. So he uploaded a shirtless photo of him with his dog and tagged hot guys with dogs, which is another conversation in itself because you can't be tagging that shit.
Starting point is 00:29:09 It doesn't matter. Brittany, it did not stop her. She found his Instagram. No, no, hang on. Then we... Stop trying to defend yourself. No, because the story's amazing. So then I was like, oh my God, cute dog.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Look, so cute. Whatever. Talk, talk, talk to talk. Found his Instagram. And that is... So I had met him in real life without saying I had stalked him on the hot guy on the dog page. And that's when I was like, Laura, you won't believe what the universe presented me. And she's like, fucking hold my beer.
Starting point is 00:29:32 So what happened was that the universe presented me, the man's Instagram page via Britney. And I took it and I looked at some photos. and I like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like. You liked you at 25. I liked six photos. You said, don't exaggerate. Sorry, they were from like 2012.
Starting point is 00:29:47 I liked them. And maybe it was a little bit over the top. But the reason for that is because then he slid into Brits DMs and then they hooked up. So actually, you can thank me for that. Do I? Thank, thank you, Laura. I'm married now, 10 years later. Thank you, Laura.
Starting point is 00:30:02 It was awful. And also, he just loved himself too much. I know. And also, I really want to defend myself because I wouldn't normally do. that, but this happened just off the back of, it was maybe about two months apart. We were walking down Bondi Promenade. Britt and I were going for a walk. And Brittany, at this point in our relationship of our friendship, she knew all my secrets about my exes. She knew the complicated relationships I had with my exes. She knew at what had happened, like cheating on me, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:30:29 One of them in particular was really, really bad. We're walking down Bondi Promenade and I went cold and I froze and I was like, oh my God, Britt, there's my ex right there, the one that I've told you about. And she goes, where? And I was like, please don't look. Please just, please don't do anything. Just look at the ground and pretend like you haven't seen him. And she goes, parkour! And then she runs over and jumps right in front of him,
Starting point is 00:30:51 jumping off a little like side rail right in front of him. That's what parkour is. And then she runs straight back over to me like a fucking homing pigeon. We've talked about this before. Anyway, that happened. I wanted to die. I was so, what I'm hearing is, I embarrass you as a friend.
Starting point is 00:31:07 because that shouldn't, that shouldn't have been a problem. My hobby of parkour, my passion of parkour should not, should not have been embarrassed during that moment. Anyway, we've told that story a few times because I still think about it. It still haunts me at all time. I still parkour all time. Two months later, I was presented with the absolute gift of Brittany finding this Instagram page and so I went and liked all these things.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Anyway, we have really taken a little turn of the table here because that's, that's, that's not what we were talking about. But the reason why I brought that up is because we all know that feeling. when you accidentally like something you shouldn't like on Instagram, taking us real full circle here. Instagram is teasing a new feature and I think it's going to help a lot of us. It would have helped you in that instance. Would have helped my mum when she accidentally liked something she shouldn't have liked? And it's called a read only.
Starting point is 00:31:50 So it's like going incognito on your website browser. When you're in read only mode, you can't like, you can't comment, you can't like accidentally leave a trail of destruction. It's giving hot guys with dogs. It's very self-explanatory. It's read only. It's quick. But please. Anyway, I think it's brilliant.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I don't know why it's taken them 15 years to create this. I'm against it. Oh, interesting. Why? Stop wrapping us all in bubble wrap. Let us make the mistakes. Let us accidentally double-tap stuff. The protection that we put around ourselves now so that nothing can go wrong,
Starting point is 00:32:25 you have not lived if you have not accidentally double-tapped something from someone you likes 2019 page. Do you know what I think it is going to do, though? What it's going to do is it's going to, because right now, I think that a lot of people wouldn't do the stalk or they wouldn't do the look. When I say stalk, I mean, like, go back and look at things that you probably shouldn't be looking at, like, like, tormenting yourself looking at your ex-boyfriend or something like that. I think that some people don't do it because they are worried about accidentally liking something or
Starting point is 00:32:48 accidentally, like, engaging with it. So it's a limiter. Like, it makes them go, okay, I'm going to second, I'm going to second guess myself. Whereas if you can go incognito on Instagram, there's probably less barrier of entry. So you're going to be more inclined to go, oh, I'm going to go look again because I'll just go incognito and no one's going to know. Do you know what I do all the time. Oh, God. What I do, I have to go and periodically check every couple of weeks or once a month. Daily Mail, here's your headline.
Starting point is 00:33:10 No, it's not checking anything. It's just the slip of the finger. The shit that I repost on my Instagram without knowing, I will go to my page sometime. Because when you scroll, all you have to do is accidentally hit repost and it doesn't say, do you want to repost? It just does it. I will go to my repost page and I'll be like, what the actual fuck have I reposted? I look like I'm absolutely cool.
Starting point is 00:33:32 So what Brittany's talking about is like when you go into someone's real now, there's like a little reverse, almost like a recycle symbol. It's got like arrows that go around in a circle. And it means that you can share someone's real, but it lives on your page. I did it recently and I shared something that was very politically questionable. So did I. I didn't do it on purpose. No, you're just scrolling. I just hit the button and somehow I was like, look at this reel about something that I don't believe in.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Yeah. At the moment, I've even reposted myself. That checks out. No, not me of Delilah. Like my reel about Delilah, you did it recently. I got notified that you had reshared or reposted something to your like saved reels. And it was like really on the nose politically. And I was like, hey, Brit.
Starting point is 00:34:12 But I don't know. And it was like some weird right wing could get you cancelled type material. I had probably been on there arguing with somebody but then accidentally reposted. It's a really dangerous feature. I was just like, hey Britt, I'm not, I'm getting the vibe you didn't mean to do this one. You might want to delete it. Sometimes Ben will come to me. I was like, why have you reposted this by the shit on your page?
Starting point is 00:34:34 He's like, why have you reposted an AI penguin? I'm like, what? I really have to be on it. I have to go and clear it. Sorry, I do want to bring up something. You recently shared something to your stories, and it was... But I knew I was AI. It says AI.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Yeah, no, I don't think you realized that when you shared it. I did. There's nothing. So it was a pyramid. There's lots of them going around now. It's a human pyramid. Yeah, like 15 stories high. Yeah, so it's like these girls are creating human pyramid.
Starting point is 00:35:03 They climb up each other and then there's like 10 stacked on top of each other. And Brittany was like, I can't stop watching this. It's amazing. No, I didn't say it's amazing. I said, I cannot stop watching this. It's hypnotizing because it was like 1 a.m. at night and I had insomnia. It says on it. AI content.
Starting point is 00:35:17 They are robots 15 stories high. Like, it is the most obvious AI content. Anyway, so many people, including Laura, we're like, Laura goes, oh, hon, it's AI. I was like, bitch, I know. I had to, I was getting so many people messaged me. but I had to do another story. I was like, guys, it says AI.
Starting point is 00:35:33 But it doesn't say AI unless you actually click into the real. Like when you reshare it in stories, it doesn't say AI. Let's just take a step back. It appeared to everybody who messaged you that you weren't aware that that was AI. I get sucked into AI a lot, right? We make the jokes all the time. Sometimes she's like, wow, this is real. This was so obviously not real.
Starting point is 00:35:50 It was impossible. It was actually impossible to do. And so many people, I think, are Kiram McGuire even message me from Traders. And then I was like, do I delete it? She would have, yes. No, I played on. I double down. I do want to share with everyone.
Starting point is 00:36:02 I get shared it weirdly a lot by like friends or like it pops up from time to time with people sharing it. The seagull on the skateboard is AI. There's never been a seagull pushing a skateboard. With one leg. With one leg. It's not happened. I send stuff to Ben all the time or I have a group chat with my sister, her husband Jay and Ben. And sometimes I'll just, you're just scrolling without looking and you'll send something.
Starting point is 00:36:24 And Jay vetoes everything. So Jay does a due diligence on everything. So he'll do a deep dive. 90% of what the shit I send him, he's like, that's not real. Say I. Do you know, I think that's worth a like a little unpack because I feel like it's a very relatable thing. We've all experienced it. There's nothing more deflating than giggling away at something, sharing it with your loved one or your partner because you think it's really funny. Like there's this really funny cat one where the cat in the middle of the night springs up and
Starting point is 00:36:47 gets against the ceiling. And I sent it to Matt and I was like, oh my God, loll, sitting there laughing, having a great time looking at reels. Just want to share it with someone so they can laugh with me. And that person turns around and goes, dude, it's AI. It just, makes you feel so dumb. I also hate how real AI is now. Like a year ago, you could always pick it. But even two days ago, I shared this thing with Ben, which was this, I was like, oh, because everything's kids and babies for me and my gram now. It's this little girl that goes up to one of those, you know, the people that dress up in gold and they pretend their statues and they stay really still, and then you give them a dollar. It was this tiny little girl that was having this
Starting point is 00:37:18 beautiful interaction with him. She has like a donut or something in a hand, and she eats a bit, then she gives some to him, and then she realizes he's alive. I was like, this is the most beautiful. But look at her hand when she eats. This is like seven fingers. Nothing's coming off. I get sucked into this shit all the time. And I was like, it would have been a beautiful moment. And you've ruined my pregnancy hormones.
Starting point is 00:37:38 That's what it is. There's this real, like, relatable, genuine disappointment when that person ruins it for you. But what I can say, I did know the 50th story. I don't believe it. Cheerleading pyramid. I don't believe it. You know why it's also? Because when you watch it, they're not just scrambling up.
Starting point is 00:37:53 They're all robotic and in time. It's like impossible for anyone to do it. And the number of people, they were like, oh, you dumb fuck. And I was like, fuck you. Like, fuck. Oh, ha. Let me look at whatever the hell I want to look at at 1 a.m in my bed. That's how I felt.
Starting point is 00:38:09 No, I disagree. It's shameful. You shared AI and people called you out for it because you didn't realize. I did. I'm going to reshare it to you guys so you can see how obviously AI it is. And also, they were so clear it was AI, even if there was an idiot that didn't know. It says AI, then they hashtag AI. and the site was like AI.
Starting point is 00:38:27 I get it. Fuck you. I'm going. It's been an hour. I'm out of here. I'm actually retiring. I'm going to repost it. You're going to go home and watch some AI reels and send them to people.
Starting point is 00:38:39 I wanted to talk about Chloe Kardashian. We'll do it next week. And then get really angry when they tell you it's AI. I wasn't angry. I was just exhausted because the DMs were blowing up. I was like, oh, it's engagement. It looks like I got loads of story replies. It's so funny.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Why are we so defensive about getting. fooled by AI. I get defensive when I wasn't fooled because I get fooled all the time and I'll own it. I think it's hilarious. But I'm not a moron. Well, I mean, I'm like 70% moron. But like 30% of me is
Starting point is 00:39:09 pretty sane. Oh wow, that was some good gear. All right, guys, I hope that you guys have a good weekend. I hope that you share some fucking really obvious AI real. Just share them. And then say hashtag real. Just share it and be like, this is amazing. Hashtag boy away. Hypnotized is what you're I was hypnotized by. I watch.
Starting point is 00:39:25 I watched it 80 times on repeat. I'll just say like, I can't believe this has happened. This is incredible. Well, you just wait, Laura. Yeah, that's it from us, guys. You know the drill. Tell you, mum, fuck off. You can do it.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Tell your mom, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friends. We're the love because we love love. We love me.
